Alabama executes Muslim inmate who wanted imam present
ATMORE, Ala. (AP) ‐ A Muslim inmate who filed a legal challenge because Alabama wouldn’t let his Islamic spiritual adviser be present in the execution chamber was put to death Thursday after the nation’s highest court cleared the way.

Dominique Ray, 42, was pronounced dead at 10:12 p.m. of a lethal injection at the state prison in Atmore.

Ray’s imam, Yusef Maisonet, watched the execution from an adjoining witness room, after visiting with Ray over the past two days. There was no Christian chaplain in the chamber, a concession the state agreed to make.

Strapped to a gurney in the death chamber, Ray was asked by the warden if he had any final words. The inmate said an Islamic statement of his faith in Arabic.

Ray was sentenced to death for the 1995 rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl. Tiffany Harville disappeared from her Selma home on July 15, 1995, and her decomposing body was found one month later in a cotton field.

It was Alabama’s first execution of the year.

Three Palestinian yoots nabbed for stone-throwing that wounded baby
[IsraelTimes] Teens placed in durance vile

last month after ’massive’ attack in southern West Bank; indictments to follow in coming days.

Three Paleostinians suspected of involvement in a stone-throwing incident that led to the injury of a 9-month-old baby have been detained by Israeli security forces, the Shin Bet security service revealed Thursday.

The suspects, two of whom are minors around the age of 17, were nabbed last month in the village of Sa’ir near Hebron, in a joint operation of the Shin Bet and IDF.

"During their Shin Bet interrogation, it was discovered that the suspects had taken part in the stone-throwing that led to the infant being maimed," the security service said in a statement.

The December 18 incident took place on the West Bank’s main north-south artery, Route 60, between the settlements of Kiryat Arba and Karmei Tzur. An Israeli mother and father were traveling with their young child, when rocks shattered their windshield glass. The infant was transferred to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center with light injuries.

The Shin Bet described the attack as "massive."

Seven vehicles were damaged as a result of the stone-throwing, but only the baby required medical treatment.

The Shin Bet said its investigation findings were transferred to the Military Advocate General and that an indictment against the suspects would be submitted in the coming days.

Israeli authorities in recent years have stepped up attempts to stymie stone-throwing incidents in the West Bank, including ratcheting up penalties against perpetrators.

Late last month, a 16-year-old Paleostinian was rubbed out by Israeli military forces near Ramallah, when hurling rocks at Israeli vehicles, the army said at the time.

According to the military, the teen, along with two others, had been throwing rocks at Israeli cars near Route 60. Troops fired at the three, hitting two of them.

Soldiers administered medical assistance to the maimed, but the 16-year-old died of his injuries.

[Ynet] A man was moderately maimed on Thursday after being struck in the head by a stone that was hurled at his vehicle near a settlement of Kokhav HaShahar in the West Bank.

leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
, survived an attempt by imported muscle to overthrow him, while in hideout in Syria, western intelligence officials said Thursday.
Update from the Daily Mail at 12:40 p.m. ET:
His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was attacked in village near Hajin in east Syria on January 10th.

The area, near the Euphrates River valley, is last of the terrorist group's territory.

ISIS issued a reward for liquidation of senior member Abu Muath al-Jazairi.

'They got wind of it just in time,' an intelligence official told the Guardian. 'There was a clash and two people were killed. This was the foreign fighter element, some of his most trusted people.'

After years of fighting, there are just 500 gunnies left, down from a peak of at least 70,000 in 2015.

The news comes after he reportedly issued an order to kill 320 of his followers for their 'betrayal' of ISIS and their 'recklessness' which 'inflicted heavy losses on the group in both Iraq and Syria' back in October 2018.

High-profile commanders said to be on the hit list include Abu al-Baraa al-Ansari, Sief al-Din al-Iraqi, Abu Otham al-Tal Afari, Abu Iman al-Mowahed and Marawan Hadid al-Suri.

Isis fighters have been fleeing the area to surrender themselves to Kurdish-led forces near Deir ez-Zor over the past three weeks.

Intelligence officials believe the diminished group have enough weapons to last at least another month.

SDF arrest 63 in round up of ISIS sleeper cells in Raqqa
[Rudaw] Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) picked up 63 alleged ISIS members in operations in Raqqa, ending a one-day curfew imposed on the city.

The Kurdish-led forces captured 63 "forces of Evil complicit in different terrorist activities," the SDF’s media centre announced on Thursday.

The individuals were members of sleeper cells spreading "fear, chaos, causing sedition, and anxiety" among the local population, the force added.

The night before, a curfew had been imposed on the city. It was lifted on Thursday.

Raqqa served as the self-proclaimed capital of ISIS. It was liberated by the SDF and their allied global coalition on October 17, 2017.

Much of the city, however, was destroyed in the campaign to liberate it. There are also thousands of mines that have to be cleared. And ISIS sleeper cells are known to wreak havoc ‐ planting roadside kabooms and carrying out liquidations to stir up tribal tensions.

Some 99.5 percent of territory once controlled by ISIS has now been liberated, according to the coalition. The group has been corralled into a small pocket of territory on the banks of the Euphrates River, where tens of thousands have fled the fighting in the past weeks.

"As we continue squeezing the remaining ISIS fighter in the MERV [middle Euphrates River valley] into a smaller box, now less than one percent of the original caliphate, they are attempting to escape through intermixing with the innocent women and kiddies attempting to flee the fighting," said British Maj. Gen. Christopher Ghika, a deputy commander within the coalition, on Thursday.

"These tactics won't succeed, our Syrian partners are focused on finding ISIS wherever they hide, and our Iraqi partner have secured their borders ensuring ISIS cannot enter Iraq."
Al Ahram adds:
At least 48 suspected members of the Islamic State group were among those arrested, according to Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The city of Raqa, which was taken by the SDF in 2017 after a massive operation by the US-led coalition, has been hit by a spate of bombings in recent weeks.

An explosion on Monday wounded Kurdish security forces in the city, the Observatory said. Last month, an IS suicide bomber attacked a centre for Kurdish forces, killing four civilians and a Kurdish fighter.

The Observatory says that suspected IS sleeper cells have allegedly assassinated at least 50 civilians and 135 SDF fighters in Kurdish-held territory, including eastern Deir Ezzor, Hasakeh's countryside, Raqa and Manbij since August.
