Uganda: 3 arrested over killing of terror prosecutor
KAMPALA -- Ugandan police have arrested at least three people over the killing last month of a senior prosecutor who was involved in the trial of a dozen men accused of belonging to the Somali armed group al-Shabab.

Ugandan police chief Kale Kayihura told reporters on Tuesday that the suspects — who once lived in the Kampala neighborhood where prosecutor Joan Kagezi was shot dead — had changed their physical address three times, leading a surveillance team to suspect they played a role in the killings. Police on Tuesday searched an apartment on the outskirts of Kampala that the suspects occupied before they were arrested. They were not identified.

Ugandan police suspect Islamic extremists killed Kagezi because of her public role as a senior prosecutor who handled international crimes and terror cases.

Suicide bomb attack in Misrata fails; IS suspected
[Libya Herald] An apparent suicide kaboom in Misrata failed early this morning with only the bomber killed. A second assailant involved in the incident was later captured in the town.

The drama started at around 1 am this morning when two vehicles -- a Hyundai Tucson and a Mercedes V2 -- drove up to the Kararim checkpoint some 30 kilometres south of of the city. The driver of the first got out with two grenade in his hands and moved towards the guards who shot him dead before he could throw them. One of the grenades then went kaboom!, blasting his upper torso apart. The Hyundai, in which a number of mortar shells had been placed, then caught fire and the shells started to explode, although not all of them. According to the military the bombs were not particularly powerful.

In the chaos, the driver of the Mercedes managed to drive off. He was, however, captured some two hours later in Misrata.

(IS), which has threatened an onslaught of suicide and boom-mobileings in Misrata, is being blamed for the attack although, unusually for it, it has not yet rushed to claim responsibility.

This is the fourth such attack in as many weeks. On 15 March bomb went kaboom! outside the headquarters of 166 Battalion killing one of its members. There was a second boom-mobile on 22 March outside the city's security administration building. Fortunately, no one was killed or injured. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
just five days ago, seven people died when a truck blew up next to a bus which had stopped at the Sadada checkpoint.

IS grabbed credit for all three attacks.

Turkey Arrests 17 over 'Syria Arms Interception'
Istanbul is Byzantium-that-was. So of course the plots are Byzantine, and as likely to be a frame as real.
[AnNahar] A Turkish court on Friday placed under arrest pending trial 17 soldiers charged in a hugely controversial case over the interception last year of a consignment that allegedly contained arms bound for Syria.

The 17 have been charged with membership of a terrorist organization and working on behalf of the "parallel state", common official shorthand for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
's arch enemy the U.S.-based preacher Fethullah Gulen.

A total of 32 soldiers detained after prosecutors issues warrants at the weekend had appeared before the Istanbul court but 15 were allowed to go free, 10 of them under judicial supervision.

A date for the trial has yet to be set.

In January last year, Turkish security forces stopped and seized seven trucks near the Syrian border that were suspected of seeking to smuggle weapons into Syria.

A series of documents were then leaked on the Internet indicating that the seized trucks were actually National Intelligence Agency (MIT) vehicles delivering weapons to Syrian Salafist tough guys fighting Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

(IS) jihadist group, although it wants to see Assad toppled.

Turkey earlier this year imposed an all-out media blackout, including on Facebook and Twitter, prohibiting publication of the allegations.

It is not yet clear what precise role the 17 accused are alleged to have played in the affair.

As well as membership of a terror group and working for the parallel state, they have been charged with illegal eavesdropping, forging illegal documents and working to overthrow the government.

The controversy erupted on January 19, 2014 when Turkish forces stopped trucks bound for Syria suspected to have been loaded with weapons. But they then found MIT personnel were on board.

The Turkish authorities have sought to blame the scandal on Gulen who Erdogan accuses of running a parallel state through supporters in the judiciary and security forces with the aim of usurping him.

A former ally of Erdogan, Pennsylvania-based Gulen has a range of interests in Turkey and abroad through his Hizmet (Service) movement in the education, media and financial sectors.

Supporters of Gulen, who have been pressured by a wave of arrests in the past months, ridicule the allegations and accuse Erdogan of leading Turkey to dictatorship.

Man held over 'US army base plot'
[BBC] A 20-year-old US citizen has been charged with attempting to explode a boom-mobile at Fort Riley in Manhattan, Kansas.

John T Booker Jr was making final preparations to carry out the suicide kaboom on behalf of the Islamic State

(IS), the FBI said.

Mr Booker previously had tried to join the Army, but was denied entry because of internet posts about "jihad".

Authorities say that US personnel were never in danger.

men were arrested in late March for attempting to provide material support to the organization. In earlier this month two women in New York City were arrested on suspicion of planning to use a weapon of mass destruction.

Booker, also known as Mohammed Abdullah Hassan, enlisted in the military "with the intent to commit an insider attack against American soldiers," according to the FBI complaint.

He had "formulated several plans for committing jihad once enlisted", including shooting soldiers on the firing range and kidnapping a high-ranking officer.
PJMedia has the background of his interactions with the FBI here, though the writer gets a bit overexcited against the FBI, it seems to me.

Alleged mastermind behind Ziarat residency attack killed, claims FC
[DAWN] QUETTA: The spokesperson for Frontier Corps claimed that the alleged criminal mastermind behind the attack on Quaid-e-Azam's Ziarat residency was killed in a targeted raid carried out by the FC personnel in the Mach area of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
's Bolan district on Friday.

FC Spokesman Khan Wasey said three bully boyz were killed by security forces including Mehmood alias Mama, the alleged criminal mastermind of bombing the Quaid residency on June 15, 2013. The accused was also involved in ethnic killing in the province, he added.

Wasey said "the bully boyz were also involved in the murder of a Hindu trader in the area". FC also recovered arms and ammunition from the possession of turbans.

Militants had carried out a symbolic and audacious attack on Pakistain, its history and the federal structure when they blew up the Ziarat residency, the building in which the Quaid-e-Azam spent the last days of his life in 1948. The Balochistan Liberation Army had grabbed credit for the strike.

The residency was later rebuild and brought back to its original glory by the government and was then inaugurated on August 14, 2014.

Separately, the Quetta police claimed to have foiled a terrorism bid by seizing 100 kilogrammes of explosives from the city's suburbs on Friday, while three extortionists were killed by Frontier Corps in the Mach area of Bolan district.

Razaq Cheema, the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Quetta, said police conducted a raid in Hazar Ganji area of the city and recovered 100 kilogrammes of explosives. "Terrorists had dumped kaboom at an empty place," Cheema stated.

He said police acted on intelligence reports and foiled a major bid of terrorism in the city, already plagued by terror acts.

The Quetta police chief, however, said that no arrest was made during the raid as the culprits had fled from the spot. "No arrest was made," he said, adding that raids were being conducted to apprehend the culprits behind dumping of kabooms.

Attacks in and North of Baghdad Kill 8
[AnNahar] A boom-mobile went off near one of Baghdad's landmark hotels and suicide kaboomer went kaboom! in a restaurant north of the Iraqi capital Friday, killing eight people, police said.

The explosives-laden vehicles rocked the central Baghdad neighbourhood of Karrada, near the upmarket Babylon hotel that overlooks the Tigris.

A police colonel said at least three people were killed 12 maimed in the blast, which occurred at a time when many civilians gather for midday Friday prayers.

A hospital official confirmed the toll.

Such attacks, once almost daily in the capital, decreased in frequency this year after security forces pushed jihadist Death Eaters back from parts of the Baghdad belt and dismantled a bomb-making cell.

In Mashahdah, a town around 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of Baghdad, a jacket wallah detonated his explosives vest in a restaurant, killing at least five people, an official at the interior ministry said.

Most of the casualties of the blast, which also left 15 people maimed, were members of the Popular Mobilisation units, an umbrella group under which many Shiite militias have been fighting jihadists alongside government forces.

IS takes parts of Ramadi, kills 10, wounds Iraqi general
[CNN] IS fighters seized several districts in the Iraqi city of Ramadi in an hours-long assault Friday that included suicide and boom-mobiles, an Iraqi provincial official said.

At least 10 Iraqi security forces were killed in the attacks, according to Faleh al-Essawi, the deputy head of Iraq's Anbar provincial council. And the head of the Iraqi military operation in Anbar province, Gen. Qassim al-Muhammadi, was maimed.

Iraqi and allied forces have made inroads in recent weeks beating back the group that calls itself the Islamic State

, which took over vast swaths of Iraq and neighboring Syria last year. Their most high-profile victory, for instance, was the recapture of Tikrit.

Still, ISIS remains a formidable force and, as the Ramadi assault shows, one that's still capable and willing to go on offense to take territory.

Southeast Asia
Two Philippine Soldiers Killed in Al Qaida-Linked Clash
[AnNahar] Philippine soldiers clashed with about 200 fighters of a Al-Qaeda-linked krazed killer group on Thursday, leaving two soldiers and six guerrillas dead, a military spokeswoman said.

The soldiers were on patrol in the strife-torn island of Jolo when they encountered fighters of the Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
group, army spokeswoman Captain Rowena Muyuela said.

"The firefight lasted for two hours resulting in a big number of casualties to the bandidos," she told news hounds.

Ten Abu Sayyaf fighters and 15 soldiers were also maimed in the encounter before the forces of Evil fled, she added.

The Abu Sayyaf, set up with seed funds from Al-Qaeda in the early 1990s, has been blamed for many of the deadliest krazed killer attacks in the Philippines, including the 2004 Molotov cocktailing of a ferry on Manila Bay that claimed more than 100 lives.

A key leader of the group posted video footage of himself and other gunnies last year pledging allegiance to Islamic State

fighters in Syria and Iraq.

The government has recently mounted major operations against Moslem bad boy groups in different parts of the southern Philippines.

A raid by police commandos in January killed Malaysian Zulkifli Abdhir, who is listed on the FBI's list of "Most Wanted Terrorists".

Forty-four police commandos were also killed in the operation, embarrassing President Benigno Aquino's government and casting a shadow on his efforts to forge a peace accord with other mainstream Moslem rebels.

A massive operation from February to March against another Moslem gang, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters
...a MILF splinter group aligned with the Islamic State...
(BIFF), killed 140 krazed killers, the military said. Six soldiers also died.

The BIFF is opposed to the peace talks and its leaders have also pledged allegiance to the Islamic State movement.

The largely-Christian Philippines has been struggling for years with various Moslem gangs seeking independence in the south which they consider their ancestral homeland.

Leb: Two Syrians Arrested for Belonging to al-Nusra Front
[AnNahar] Two Syrians were jugged

in the eastern Bekaa region for belonging to a terrorist group, reported the National News Agency.

It said that the Army Intelligence arrested them in al-Labweh for being affiliated to the al-Nusra

Front.

The detainees have been identified as Mohammed Idris and Abdul Muhaymen al-Abed.

The army has in recent months arrested scores of suspected faceless myrmidons linked to the Syrian conflict.

The al-Nusra

The organization has been blacklisted in December by the United States as a "terrorist" organization and makes no secret of its aim for Syria to become an Islamist state.

The jihadists remain entrenched on the outskirts of the northeastern town of Arsal on the porous Syrian-Lebanese border.

The mountainous area along the Lebanese-Syrian border has long been a smuggling haven, with multiple routes into Syria that have been used to transport weapons and fighters.

Leb Security Forces Arrest Hoblos, Kill Fugitives in Tripoli
Lebanon continues clearing the decks against the probability of future problems from Syria.
[AnNahar] Security forces succeeded on Thursday in arresting and killing prominent runaways wanted on terrorism charges, most notably Sheikh Khaled Hoblos, who is wanted for his involvement in festivities with the army in Bhannine in late 2014.

An Internal Security Forces statement late on Thursday announced that Hoblos was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
while riding in a Kia Picanto vehicle that was driven by Amir al-Kurdi in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Soon after, an Opel vehicle, with two passengers on board, shot up the security forces, slightly wounding two members.

The forces retaliated at the car, killing the two passengers. They were later identified as Osama Mansour and Ahmed al-Nazer.

They also determined that Masnour had opened fire.

He also possessed an boom belt that a military expert has since dismantled, added the communique.

As Safir newspaper Friday said that the ISF Intelligence Bureau managed to pursue and kill Mansour and al-Nazer in an ambush in the Miatayn crossroads in Tripoli.

The Bureau had been monitoring the telephone calls of a terrorist group, finding out that some of its members will be holding a meeting at a cafe in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood.

An Intelligence Bureau unit, under the surveillance of Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq, was summoned to raid the cafe and arrest the suspects.

As it approached the scene, the unit was surprised with the appearance of two cars leaving the area at high speeds.

They took the al-Zahriyeh road leading towards the Miatayn crossroads near an army checkpoint.

The security forces sought to block the road against one of the cars, which was transporting Mansour and al-Nazer, in order to apprehend the passengers, said As Safir.

They were instead met with gunshots from the other car that was following it and transporting Hoblos and three of his armed companions.

Two members of the ISF unit were seriously maimed in the clash that lasted about five minutes, added As Safir.

The army was also involved in the incident.

Mansour and al-Nazer were killed in the unrest, while Hoblos was maimed and arrested.

He has been transported to the ISF General Directorate in Beirut where investigations are underway with him.

His companions in the car managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...
The army has since cordoned off the area where the clash took place and forensic experts discovered a number of weapons, hand grenades, and boom belts in the runaways' abandoned vehicles.

In October, the army engaged in festivities in the northern town of Bhannine with Islamist gunnies led by Hoblos.

The festivities in Bhannine coincided at the time with unprecedented fighting between the army and Islamist gunnies in Tripoli's old souks and Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood.

A number of the members of Hoblos' Islamist network have since been arrested.

Mansour is wanted on terrorism charges.

In January, he was implicated, along with 27 others, in the double suicide kaboom that rocked the Jabal Mohsen district of Tripoli earlier that month.

Mansour, along with prominent runaway Shadi al-Mawlawi, was wanted for leading gangs that engaged in deadly gunbattles with the army in Tripoli and its surrounding areas in October.

Mansour and al-Mawlawi were also charged with recruiting people for the purpose of carrying out terrorist attacks, assaulting the army and planting bombs.

Western fighters join Syrian Kurds in anti-ISIS campaign
[ARA] Dozens of Western fighters from different nationalities have joined the ranks of the Kurdish forces in Syria and Iraq in order to combat murderous Moslems of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS/ISIL).

The mounting atrocities of the holy warrior group against civilians have these Westerners --some with military experience and others with no fighting background--supporting Kurds in their months-long conflict against IS.

In Syria, hundreds of Western members of the People's Protection Units (YPG and Women's Protection Units (YPJ) have formed what is known as "Lions of Rojava" (Lions of Syrian Kurdistan). They force combat IS in several areas in Syria's Kurdish region alongside the YPG and YPJ.

The force fights under the banner "Send Terrorists to Hell and Save Humanity".

Speaking to ARA News, Peter, an American fighter in the ranks of Lions of Rojava, emphasized the importance of being united with the Kurdish forces in order to fight against IS holy warriors, saying it's a front that everyone should join since IS is an enemy to all of humanity.

"What prompted me to come here and join the Kurdish forces was the desire to help eliminate the enemies of humanity (in reference to IS bad boys)," Peter said.

"By this amount of brutality and barbaric atrocities against innocent civilians, theese gunnies are trying to destroy humanity. Thus it seems a duty to fight and eliminate them."

"They are a source of extremism and terrorism, and they share all inhuman qualities," he added.

Speaking to ARA News on the fighting front against the radical group in the town of Tel Brak near Qamishli, Peter appealed to the U.S.: "Air operations must be more efficient against the Islamic State, and essential tactical units of the group should be given a priority in the Arclight airstrikes in order to enable us to achieve remarkable advances on the ground."

"Eliminating terrorism starts with eliminating IS, because the group has attracted Death Eaters from all over the world. So this is a great opportunity for the U.S. and allies to put an end to those gunnies who threaten innocent people, not only in this region but all over the world," Peter told ARA News.

Delil, a Kurdish fighter who is fighting alongside Peter, said that the presence of Peter and other Western fighters on the Kurdish side of the conflict against IS "it raises the overall morale among Kurds".

"When you see foreigners leave their homelands to join us in the fight against terrorism, this strengthens our spirits in this war, so we remain even more steadfast in our commitment to defend our people and homeland," Delil told ARA News.

Syria Opposition Figures Seek to Form Alternative Body
Meanwhile, on the ground where it matters, ISIS and Al Nusra gobble up the smaller groups and minority populations, and fight against the Kurds and Assad's remainder of Syria.

Syrian Observatory: IS Holding 50 Civilians after Raid on Syria Village
[AnNahar] Jihadist fighters from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group are holding hostage at least 50 civilians, almost half of them women, seized in a raid on a village in central Syria, a monitor said.

They were kidnapped from the village of Mabujeh in Hama province on March 31, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

News of the kidnappings had been kept quiet because of ongoing negotiations for their release, but the talks have since faltered, said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

Ten of those taken, including six women, are Ismailis, a minority sect that is an offshoot of Shiite Islam. The remaining 40 are Sunni Moslems, including at least 15 women.

"There are fears that the women are being taken as slaves," Abdel Rahman told AFP.

He said the Ismailis were kidnapped because IS considers them "infidels," and that the Sunnis -- although from the same sect as IS fighters -- were taken because IS viewed them as "loyal to the Ismailis."

Mabujeh, east of the lovely provincial capital Hama, has a population of Sunnis, Ismailis and Alawites, another offshoot of Shiite Islam that is the sect of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
and his clan.

On March 31, IS executed at least 37 civilians in Mabujeh, including two children, by "burning, beheading, and firing on them," the Observatory said.

IS has regularly targeted minority sects in Syria, especially Shiites it accuses of apostasy, as well as Sunnis who it alleges have violated its interpretation of Islam.

It has also carried out mass kidnappings of Kurds and Assyrian Christians in Syria, and members of the Yazidi faith in neighboring Iraq.

In another attack on a minority village in Syria, a boom-mobile went kaboom! Friday in the Alawite neighborhood of Hay al-Arman in Homs city, the Observatory said.

Abdel Rahman told AFP that one child was killed and at least 10 people were maimed in the kaboom.

He could not specify who was behind the boom-mobile, but Syrian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said a "terrorist attack" had struck the area.

Abdel Rahman said Hay al-Arman was under regime control and was a "stronghold" of pro-government militias.

Alawite areas in Homs have been under attack by jihadists, including a brutal suicide kaboom at a school in October 2014 that left 54 dead, among them 47 children.

In the northern city of Raqa, which IS has declared the capital of its self-styled "caliphate," 16 people were killed in a series of regime air strikes on the city and its suburbs.

PLO says no to action in Syria's Yarmouk refugee camp
[SACBEE] The Paleostine Liberation Organization said it will not be drawn into military action in an embattled Paleostinian refugee camp in Syria, rejecting claims that Paleostinians would join Syrian troops in driving out Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. krazed killers.

The PLO statement, issued late Thursday, contradicted comments earlier by the PLO envoy to Damascus, Ahmad Majdalani, that Paleostinian groups are ready to join forces with the Syrian government to expel IS fighters from the Yarmouk camp in the Syrian capital.

Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
has long insisted that Paleostinians stay out of the Syrian conflict. It was not immediately clear why Majdalani, sent by Abbas to Damascus to deal with the crisis, came out in support of Paleostinian military involvement in Syria.

The contradictory comments exposed internal Paleostinian disagreements on how to handle the growing crisis in Yarmouk, where thousands of civilians are trapped under appalling conditions.

Wasel Abu Yusef, a senior PLO official based in the West Bank town of Ramallah, said Friday that negotiating safe passage for Yarmouk's besieged residents and for humanitarian supplies is preferable to military action.

"We know that if the (Syrian) army, with its planes and tanks, would interfere, this would mean the complete destruction of the camp," he said.

A Damascus-based Paleostinian official, Khaled Abdul-Majid, said the back and forth was not helping Yarmouk. He said the PLO was backing away from earlier statements "as a result of pressure from external sides." He did not elaborate, but said Damascus-based Paleostinian factions will stick to the agreement reached on joining Syrian troops in driving IS gunnies out.
