Afghanistan
Afghanistan: 30 killed as Taliban storm army posts
[AA.TR] At least 30 Afghan soldiers have been killed, eight of them beheaded, and several others were kidnapped after turbans stormed army checkpoints in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, Afghan officials said Monday.

According to Afghan sources, on Friday night, some 200 Afghan and foreign turbans launched an assault on army and police checkpoints in Jurm district of northeastern Badakhshan province, bordering with China.

"More than 70 army troops were serving in different check posts in Jurm district, they were (either) killed, (or) kidnapped by turbans or hid in the caves to survive," Zalmai Mujaddadi, representative of Badakhshan province to Lower House told the Anadolu Agency. "Militants have beheaded eight soldiers in ISIS`s (Daesh's) style and have sent the bodies back to the government."

"Locals have mediated and asked Taliban to do not behead rest of the captives," he added.

Though the attack occurred on Friday, the officials exposed the details on Monday saying that the area had since been recaptured by Afghan cops.

Mujaddadi added that, the check posts had been completely destroyed by Death Eaters while four armor vehicles, six police vans and several light and heavy weapons were taken.

Regarding the incident, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Monday gave vaguer numbers, citing 33 Afghan soldiers "martyred, maimed and missing."

"At least 20 Death Eaters were killed and 17 others were maimed," the statement added.

The Taliban grabbed credit for the attack saying they had killed 49 soldiers and maimed 42 others, which was not confirmed by any independent sources.

The recent attack seems part of the Taliban`s spring offensive, as they increased their attacks since snow has melted in the mountainous country.

Reportedly, hundreds of Afghan and foreign turbans have crossed the Afghan-Pakistain border after the Islamabad launched army operations against Taliban and al Qaeda operatives in its soil.

"Some 300 foreign krazed killers, 50 of them along with their families, from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, eastern Turkistan (Xinjiang of China) and Kyrgyzstan are based in Badakhshan to destabilize Afghanistan and central Asian countries," Mujaddadi added.

The attack in Badakhshan is a strong hit to morale for Afghan cops, which assumed security responsibilities from NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...

AQIS city chief among five killed in 'encounter'
[DAWN] KARACHI - Five holy warriors of the recently formed Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), including its Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
chief and deputy chief, were killed in an alleged encounter in Orangi Town in the early hours of Monday, according to police.

The officials claimed to have unearthed a bomb-making factory and seized a huge quantity of kaboom, three suicide jackets, laptop and some documents during the raid which was conducted on information about the alleged hideout of AQIS holy warriors in the Khairabad area.

The police said the suspects were involved in the suicide kaboom on Rangers officials at Qalandria Chowk in North Nazimabad last month and were planning further attacks on security agencies.

The documents, laptop and other material found at the hideout helped the police in identification of the jacket wallah, a 20-year-old Bengali, who had attacked the Rangers personnel, said DIG of the Counter-Terrorism Department Mohammed Arif Hanif.

"The bomber, identified as Arif alias Wahaj, happened to be the student of one of the biggest seminaries in the metropolis," the DIG said.

Sharing details of the raid with the media during a presser at the CTD Civil Lines office, the officer said that when a police team headed by CTD official Raja Umer Khattab conducted the targeted raid, the suspects tried to flee by resorting to firing and attacking the armoured personnel carrier of police with hand grenades.

"The CTD team and Special Security Unit commandos encircled the Lion of Islams. In an ensuing exchange of intense fire, five holy warriors were killed," said DIG Hanif.

He said the dear departed were identified as Karachi AQIS head Noor-ul-Hasan alias Hashim alias Bhai Jan alias Babu Bhai, his deputy Usman alias Irfan alias Abdullah, and Ibrahim alias Rafiq alias Awais.

The CTD chief said the identity of the two other suspects could not be ascertained immediately, but the police had reason to believe that they were 'suicide bombers'. They had come from the Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province of Afghanistan just two months ago, according to CTD official Khattab.

"The laptop and other documents seized from the bomb-making factory revealed many things," he said. One of the findings was that the cycle of violence used in the March 2 attack on the Rangers had been prepared there, he added. Then "a video of the suicide bomber recorded before the attack was also seized," he said.

The suicide bomber, Arif alias Wahaj, was a resident of Bilal Colony, Korangi, and a student of a prominent seminary, said the CTD chief without disclosing its name.

Profile

According to the officer, the Karachi chief of the AQIS was an expert in preparing bomb-laden two- and four-wheelers. He had been associated with different 'Jihadi organizations' since 1999. Due to these credentials, he had been made the head of the AQIS in Karachi.

It was Noor-ul-Hasan alias Hashim alias Bhai Jan alias Babu Bhai, who had prepared the bomb-laden cycle of violence, which was used in the attack on the Rangers. The CTD chief said the AQIS had been established by Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area. That is not a horn growing from the middle of his forehead, but a prayer bump, attesting to how devout he is...
who had appointed Asim Umer, a former Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain commander, its first chief. It took Al-Qaeda two years to set up AQIS in which members of all Jihadi organizations were recruited. At present, holy warriors of Harkat-ul-Mujahidin Al-Almi were leading AQIS in Karachi, according the CTD. They had assumed the AQIS leadership after being 'released' from prisons where they had remained incarcerated for 'years'.

"The AQIS has focussed on recruiting Burmis and Bengalis for carrying out terror attacks," believed the CTD officer who has extensive experience in dealing with terror cases.

The group had also been involved in terror attacks on police and paramilitary force including the Feb 4 kaboom on Rangers personnel near DC West office, attacks on police vans in Korangi and Ibrahim Hyderi, and an attack on a police post in Bilal Colony, killing of a political party worker Khurshid Pathan, murder of a policeman Abdul Razzaq, Siraj Bihari, Alam Muchhar and Syed Zakir Shah.

DIG Hanif said the police also seized a 'target list' from the hideout, indicating that their next targets were personnel of security agencies, Rangers and police.

The CTD chief said it was the AQIS that had grabbed credit of the botched terror attack on Dockyard in September 2014.

Soon after the launch of Operation Zarb-e-Azab, AQIS relocated from Wazoo to Helmand province.

"AQIS bandidos Lions of Islam are provided assistance in Helmand from where they travel to Chaman, Quetta, Shikarpur and Karachi," said DIG Hanif.

CTD official Khattab told Dawn that the AQIS had done a recce from Malir Halt to airport to Toll Plaza to target Rangers, police and others. "Their network also existed in the University of Karachi," he said, while referring to some clues retrieved from the laptop.

The suicide bomber in the Rangers attack case was a Bengali-speaking youngster, who had been handed over to the AQIS in Helmand, Mr Khattab said, adding that a card found from the hideout showed that he had remained a student of the Karachi seminary.

Mumtaz Qadri submits appeal against death sentence in Supreme Court
[DAWN] The counsel for Mumtaz Qadri, the killer of former Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

governor Salman Taseer, has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against his death sentence.

The convict's lawyer maintained that the Islamabad High Court's ruling of a death sentence for Qadri is not in accordance with the law and constitution of Pakistain as the murder was caused by 'provocation'.

According to Barrister Khawaja Sharif, Qadri's counsel, the appeal was filed in the Supreme Court's Lahore Registry on April 8 but the court is yet to acknowledge the petition.

Following the IHC's ruling of a death penalty for Mumtaz Qadri, the convict was expected to submit an appeal in the Supreme Court.

Last month, the IHC rejected Qadri's application against his death sentence under the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) but accepted his application to void ATA's Section 7, after which Qadri's counsels decided to challenge the IHC's ruling in the Supreme Court.

Qadri's petition had demanded that his death sentence should be quashed and the second asked for Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) to be declared void from the sentencing.

Prime suspect in Imran Farooq murder arrested in Karachi: Nisar
[DAWN] Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
on Monday said the primary suspect in Dr Imran Farooq's murder case has been placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
from Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and will be presented in court tomorrow (Tuesday).

Speaking to news hounds in Islamabad, Nisar Ali Khan did not disclose the name of the suspect but said his identity will be made public when he is presented in court tomorrow.

"Since the past year our intelligence agencies were making all efforts to arrest the central character behind the incident," Nisar said.

"The two other men who were suspected [of being involved in the murder], they were poor people," the minister said, referring to the two Pak nationals --29-year-old Mohsin Ali Syed and 34-year-old Muhammad Kashif Khan Kamran -- wanted by British authorities investigating the murder.

"They went to England for the first time. Their trip to England, their visas, the courses they were enrolled in and the money to finance the visit -- the thousands of pounds in fees that they paid -- the man behind the basis of this plot, according to our investigation, has been caught in Karachi by intelligence and security agency operations."

"That person has been arrested through targeted operations by Pakistain's security and intelligence agencies, he added.

"I have said on multiple occasions that it is not about politics, it is about murder, and the point is to bring those responsible for it before the law," Nisar said.

Nisar said a JIT will also be formed to investigate the case, and a proper application for that will be submitted in the next two days.

"Due to the international implications and repercussions of the case, federal institutions that have been part of the investigation will also be a part of the JIT," said the interior minister.

What ever information we had, we shared it with Scotland Yard and the British government, said the interior minister.

Sources said Nisar was referring to Moazzam Ali, a man arrested from his Azizabad home in the last 48 hours with suspected links to the MQM. The party, however, has strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
any connection with the two people arrested by Rangers from a house in Azizabad.

MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq, aged 50, was on his way home from work when he was murdered in Green Lane on September 16, 2010 outside his London home. A post-mortem examination found that he died from multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head.

Farooq claimed asylum in Britannia in 1999. He was wanted in Pakistain over scores of charges including torture and murder but always claimed the accusations were politically motivated.

He had twice been elected as a politician in Pakistain but went into hiding in 1992 when the government ordered a military crackdown against MQM activists in Karachi.

Last month, Nisar had said in the Parliament that Farooq's muder as well as a March 11 security raid on the MQM headquarters in Karachi and some subsequent outbursts by the MQM chief Altaf Hussain
...think of the head of the Barzini clan, only in Urdu...
against Pakistain's military were discussed when British High Commissioner Philp Barton came to meet him in Islamabad.

500 ISIS attack Kurds along Tel Afar Rd. - 60 IS killed.

The original headline is more dramatic, if less informative:
Peshmerga pummel ISIS in massive battle near Tal Afar

A powerful force of an estimated 500 ISIS fighters mounted a massive assault on Sunday night on Peshmerga frontlines near the intersection of the Hardan and Tal Afar roads. At least 30 extemists were killed in the clashes and four Peshmerga were injured.

Some of the militants were from Chechnya and the rest are from Iraq and the Tal Afar area, a Peshmerga official said, adding that there were some ethnic Turkmen and Arabs.

"We have also captured heavy weapons left behind and now they are in the hands of the Peshmerga, including PKC maching guns, Kalashnikov rifles and many other weapons," said the officer.

Hardan town is located east of Tal Afar, it is on the main road from Shingal and Tal Afar to Syria. According to Peshmerga intelligence ISIS will continue attacking in the area because of its strategic location.

Thai police suspect Muslim rebels behind southern killings
[Ynet] Police suspect Moslem separatists are behind six killings in Thailand's far south that have come as the country celebrates its traditional New Year.

Two rubber farmers were rubbed out on their plantation in Yala province on Monday, and four people in two neighboring houses were killed Sunday night in Narathiwat province.

More than 5,000 people have been killed in Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani provinces since an Islamic separatist insurgency erupted in 2004.

#1  headline is wrong. Should say "Islamist" rebels instead of "Muslim" rebels.

YNet news simply repeats this error from AP because AP journalists along with AAP reporters and every news house in the free world have not bothered to highlight to staff the importance of understanding the difference between a person of Muslim faith and a follower of fascist Islamism who wants to install the rule of Sharia.

Every day we reap the whirlwind of this original sin first brought in when the intelligence agencies told George Bush not to call the global conflict we are in a "war on fascist Islamism" which it is - instead he was persuaded to declare "war on terrorism", a tactic.

And all news agencies from that time forward were encouraged to pretend that is what it is.

So they didn't bother to educate themselves on the difference between Islamist and Muslim or to ensure their newsrooms produced accurate copy

As a direct result of this our governments have made suspects out of every citizen. They refuse to ideologically profile the enemy in case that is "racist" another stupid conflation of concepts that have nothing in common.

#3  thanks TW, i've been trying for a year to get the Australian media to understand the importance of accurate reporting. Here we've seen the word "Islamist" hidden entirely from some Charlie Hebdo reports and then "Muslim" deliberately and gratuitously put in the headlines about the police officer who incidentally happened to be Muslim who was killed in the shoot-out with the Charlie Hebdo killers.

I try and try but it's just throwing pebbles in a deep well. You never even hear the splash.

#4  anon1, I'm afraid that there is little distinction between "Islamist" and Moslem.

From all I've ever read the difference is only a matter of personal action. Islamists kill and Moslems cheer them on.

Can you identify which schools of Islamic thought do not believe in Sharia? Or, do not subscribe to all the tenets in the Koran and Haddith? If you do not believe in Sharia and all the teachings of Mohammed can you really claim to be a Moslem?

From what I've seen coming out of the important mosques, Al-azhar, al-Haram etc. not one major Islamic preacher has denounced any of the vile tenets of their faith. Murder of infedels, jizayah, taqquia all comes from the core text which is infallible and immutable, no?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Israel: Iran steps up arms shipments to Hezbollah, Hamas
[IsraelTimes] Jerusalem sources say Tehran upping support for terror groups, express fear Iran will have billions more to spend under nuke deal Tehran said preparing Hezbollah for 'large scale' conflict with Israel

Israeli officials revealed Monday that the Islamic Theocratic Republic had stepped up its support for Lebanese Shiite terror group Hezbollah over the past few weeks.

According to a Channel 2 report Monday, Israel has observed an increase in Iran weapons shipments to Hezbollah members -- in Leb and on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights. Iran had also sent weaponry to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers in Gazoo and was even attempting to arm Hamas members in the West Bank, the report said.

"Israel warns: Iran is acting in recent days and weeks to prepare and arm Hezbollah for conflict with Israel, on a large scale," Channel 2's diplomatic correspondent Udi Segal tweeted later Monday.

The TV report said Israel was alarmed that the sanctions relief Iran would enjoy if it reaches a deal on its nuclear program would free up "billions of dollars" for further such weapons shipments, and for Iranian support for terrorism. The TV report said the officials added that it was "hard to see" how the deal, so firmly backed by the US, could help the interests of Israel and other US allies.
