Taliban kill 17 Afghans even as they 'welcome' peace push
[Ynet] Taliban militants who have been waging war on the Afghan government for more than a decade on Monday expressed a willingness to soften their position on a range of issues, an apparent shift that could eventually lead to peace talks.

But despite those positive signs following two days of informal talks in Qatar, a wave of Taliban attacks targeting police checkpoints late Sunday night in the remote Afghan province of Badakhshan, killed at least 16 policemen. The insurgents said in a statement to media that the assaults were part of their annual spring offensive, which began late last month.

And on Monday morning, a Taliban suicide bomber struck a bus carrying government workers in the capital, Kabul, killing one person and wounding 13. The Taliban also claimed responsibility for that bombing.

Grenade explosions rattle Bossaso Port City
BOSSASO, Somalia -- At least two grenade explosions have rocked Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso on Monday evening according to witnesses, Garowe Online reports.
This city of almost 750,000 is on the Gulf of Aden and is a principal seaport for Puntland. Look at it from a satellite view: a big pile of stone surrounded by a much bigger pile of dirt.
Security sources have confirmed that a civilian bystander died while two others sustained injuries after suspected Al Shabaab gunmen targeted a security checkpoint in new Bossaso neighborhood with hand grenades.

The attack on security forces manning Afar-Irdodka checkpoint follows a string of pre-planned raids by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants in Galgala. Three weeks ago, Al Shabaab gunmen raided a police station in Puntland’s most populous city.

Meanwhile, Al Shabaab fighters have briefly seized army base near Bossaso, killing a soldier and wounding three others.

The deadly assault occurred in Yalho village which lies 50km from the Gulf of Aden port city.

8-member panel of UN experts said in confidential report in late 2014, that ‘catch and release policy’ adopted by Puntland President fuelled upsurge in terror operations.

Puntland Army Chief faulted bad weather and rough topography for retreats on the frontline.

No body claimed the simultaneous grenade attacks and brief seizure but Puntland Defence Forces (PDFs) and militants fought in sporadic battles in Galgala, some 50km southwest of Bossaso.

In Egypt, militants attack security forces' base in Sinai
[Ynet] Egyptian officials say suspected Islamic forces of Evil have attacked a security forces' base in northern Sinai, near the border with Gazoo. There was no immediate word on casualties.

Security officials say kabooms rocked the Central Security base in the border town of Rafah around noon on Monday after attackers fired mortars targeting the camp. The officials say that fierce festivities are underway between the forces of Evil and security forces. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media. Egypt has been battling an Islamic insurgency in northern Sinai for years, but attacks against the army and police dramatically increased after the July 2013 ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi. Troops Kill 28 Suspected Militants in Central Nigeria
If it's not one thing, it's another.
[AnNahar] Troops killed 28 suspected gunnies during a weekend operation in central Nigeria launched in response to an attack last month which saw six soldiers gruesomely murdered, the military said Monday.

The violence occurred on the border between Plateau and Taraba states, an area plagued by waves of sectarian violence seen as separate from Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, although the Islamist bandidos Death Eaters have claimed past attacks in the region.

"In our effort to rid the border communities... of incessant killings and brigandage, there was an exchange of fire between troops and murderous Moslems in which lives were lost," military front man Ikedichi Iweha told AFP, referring to Saturday's unrest.

"Twenty-eight members of the militia group bit the dust, one soldier was injured while another is still missing following the battle," he added.

Iweha said the offensive in the districts of Wase and Langtang was launched in response to an April 28 attack by gunnies on troops operating in the area.

"They killed the soldiers, took away their arms, gorged out their eyes, cut their tongues and decapitated their bodies in a most horrible manner," he added.

He fiercely denied
No, no! Certainly not!
accusations circulating in local media that the troops went on a rampage, indiscriminately firing on defenseless civilians in retaliation for the six soldiers' gory deaths.

Plateau state government front man Pam Ayuba said locals on his side of the border were angry their community was targeted in the operation, as the purported gunnies were clearly based in Taraba.

There was no immediate indication as to the identity of the suspected gunnies and it was not clear if they had any connection to Boko Haram.

Iweha said the search for the attackers was ongoing.

Plateau state falls in Nigeria's so-called Middle Belt, where the mainly Christian south meets the majority Moslem north.

Christian-dominated farming communities have clashed with largely Moslem herdsmen of the Fulani ethic group since the turn of the century, leaving thousands dead.

Ayuba said the region on the Taraba border has been peaceful for several years.

Violence by Boko Haram has most heavily been concentrated in Plateau's capital Jos, where churches and markets have been repeatedly bombed.

Most violence in rural areas has been blamed on long-standing sectarian grievances fueled partly by battles over land rights.

Former Boko Haram Captives Describe Deaths During Rescue
A Nigerian military rescue operation ended months of captivity for hundreds of women and children who had been kidnapped by Boko Haram militants, but also resulted in some deaths from a land mine blast or being run over by heavy vehicles, according to survivors.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said Sunday the group of 275 rescued last week in northeastern Nigeria arrived at a refugee camp where they will be receiving medical care and trauma counseling.

Several of the women there described what happened after the military arrived to free them. They said some of the women were hiding in bushes where soldiers did not see them, and died when an armored personnel carrier drove through.

#1  According to some Spanish websites a lot of them are pregnant from their rapers. They are lucky. The Algerian GIA (in French) or IAG (Islamic Armed Groups) made a standard practice to kill captured women when it was discovered they were pregnant. If the Nigearin girls are alive it must be because the Boko Haram people are moderate.

Soddy-led Coalition Lands Special Forces in Yemen
The Saudi-led coalition battling Shi'ite Houthi insurgents in Yemen landed several dozen special forces in Aden Sunday, its first ground deployment in the battle for control of the Arab world's poorest country.

Witnesses said the coalition forces were wearing black military-style clothing and were armed with sophisticated weaponry. Helicopter gunships hovered above their landing area between Aden's al-Mansoura neighborhood and the airport.

Gunmen Retreat from Border Posts as Lebanese Army Refuses to Engage Qalamoun Battle
[AnNahar] Gunmen entrenched on the outskirts of the eastern Lebanese border reportedly withdrew from their positions as the Lebanese army denied involvement in a gunbattle outside the country's border.

The source said that the party "is dealing with the retreat as a tactic... we will not take control of the positions deserted by gunnies without a wide attack that cleanses the area from takfiri

The Lebanese army frequently festivities with the forces of Evil in their hideouts near the Syria border.

The IS, which controls several areas in Syria and Iraq, aims to spread to Leb as its fighters position in the outskirts of Bekaa towns bordering Syria and the Lebanese army is in adamant efforts to stop their efforts to infiltrate the country.

IMO its one of the reasons, but not the only one, as to why China is doing what she is doing via island reclamations in the South China Sea, i.e. the South China Sea that is directly across from the Northern Philipines, to include the Subic-Manila-Clark Regions, WHERE CHINA NEEDS TO BASE PLA LR AIRPOWER + ASBMS, ETC. Syrian army pounds ISIS strongholds in Hasakah, militants fight back
Hasakah, Syria – On Monday, shelling renewed by the pro-regime forces on locations of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in the southern areas of Hasakah city, northeastern Syria.

Security forces detained scores of people after the kaboom rocked the dense residential and commercial quarter, which is a main crossroad of the city and is home to many Syrian Kurds.
