Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi Declared Egypt's President
[An Nahar] Moslem Brüderbund member Mohammed Morsi was on Sunday declared the first president of Egypt since a popular uprising ousted strongman Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
, the head of the electoral commission announced.

"The winner of the election for Egyptian president on June 16-17 is Mohammed Morsi Eissa al-Ayat," said Farouq Sultan, the commission's head.

Morsi, who ran against ex-prime minister Ahmed Shafiq, won 51.73 percent of the vote after a race that polarized the Arab world's most populous nation.

Shafiq received 48.27 percent of the vote, according to the electoral commission's announcement.

Morsi won 13,230,131 votes against Shafiq who clinched 12,347,380.

The election, in which more than 50 million voters were eligible to cast their ballot, saw a 51.8 percent turnout.

Thousands of Egyptians packed into Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square to celebrate Morsi's victory, waving flags and posters of the Islamist leader.

"God is greatest" and "down with military rule" they chanted as some set off fire crackers minutes after the election commission formally declared the result.

Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, congratulated Morsi on his victory, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said.

"Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi congratulates Dr. Mohammed Morsi on winning the presidency of the republic," the channel reported.

"The commission began its work in mid-February, but it was faced from the very beginning by a fierce campaign and treason accusations from the various political forces," said the head of the commission during the presser.

"Some tried to question our work, some kept rejecting our decisions and some launched campaigns to pave the ground for accusing us of rigging the results should their candidate lose," he added.

Africa Subsaharan
Nigeria's Boko Haram free 40 in prison break
[Swissinfo.ch] Nigeria's Islamist sect Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
stormed a prison in their north-eastern heartland on Sunday, freeing 40 inmates, police said, in the latest of a string of attacks blamed on the group.

"There was an attack on the Yobe prison this morning, the Boko Haram sect attacked the prison through the Emir palace, 40 inmates escaped," said Patrick Egbuniwe, Yobe State police commissioner.

"They attacked with rifles, the police and the joint task force confronted them and the Boko Haram members that were shot were carried away by the sect."

He said two of the attackers were rubbed out and some coppers were maimed. Gun battles between sect members and security forces in Yobe's capital Damaturu killed 40 people on Tuesday last week.

Boko Haram has been blamed for several prison breaks in the past and one of the group's few demands has been that its imprisoned members should be freed.

The sect, which is based in the remote northeast, has rapidly overtaken Death Eaters in the oil-producing southern Niger Delta as the country's biggest security threat.

Bangladesh
Sayedee denied bail
[Bangla Daily Star] The International Crimes Tribunal-1 yesterday rejected Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayeedi
...Islamic orator and politician. He was a former Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008, and is one of the most prominent leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami...
's bail prayer since he had a parole prayer pending.

The tribunal also said his bail prayer, filed on health grounds, was dismissed since he had been taken good care of at a hospital.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Nizamul Huq ordered Sayeedi's family to bear all cost of his treatment.

This was Sayeedi's seventh bail prayer before the tribunal.

Defence counsel Tajul Islam on June 21 appealed to the tribunal for his bail saying that Sayeedi needed the support of his family to get well and to recover from the grief of losing his son.

Sayeedi is facing 20 charges of crimes against humanity allegedly committed by him during the Liberation War.

Wimbledon 2012: no-fly zone declared over championships to prevent terror attack
Aircraft are banned from flying below 500 feet over the All England Club in London SW19 and within a perimeter of 0.75 nautical miles.

Ground commander Supt Pete Dobson of the Metropolitan Police said that general security had been increased for this year's tournament, which ends just 18 days before the Olympics, and that more uniformed and plain clothed officers would be on the ground.

"I am conscious that the attention is on London throughout the whole summer," he said. "I am acutely aware that if someone was to do something untoward here it could well have a knock on effect on the Olympics. There is a greater security awareness this year. "We are always looking to improve security plans so we do review it and we do make some tactical changes so we can defeat anyone who is trying to do a hostile reconnaissance."

Home Front: WoT
Suspect in thwarted Capitol bombing plot pleads guilty
[The Hill] A suspect in a planned suicide bombing attack on Congress has pled guilty to charges against him in federal court.
So now he's not a suspect anymore. He's a perp.
I think the right word is 'convict'...
Amine El Khalifi, 29, appeared in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., on Friday afternoon on charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against property that is owned and used by the United States.

Those charges stem from the illegal Moroccan immigrant's alleged role in a thwarted suicide bombing attack on the U.S. Capitol Feb. 17.

Alexandria resident El Khalifi's arrest was the culmination of an extensive investigation by the FBI, which included undercover agents posing as members of al Qaeda.

A bearded and tattooed El Khalifi was led into the courtroom in handcuffs Friday and joked with his defense attorneys before entering his guilty plea. During his appearance, his defense attorney Kenneth Troccoli told the court his client had previously served time in the District in 2007 for two counts of simple assault.

U.S. Federal Judge James Cacheris remanded El Khalifi back into custody until his sentencing date of Sept. 14 pending a pre-sentence report. Under the terms of his plea agreement, El Khalifi will receive a sentence of 25 to 30 years in prison. If convicted, he could have faced a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Neil MacBride, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, expressed satisfaction with the plea agreement following Friday's hearing.

MacBride stated that the U.S. Capitol was not El Khalifi's initial target, but instead one settled upon after he considered targeting first a synagogue, then a crowded District restaurant.

El Khalifi was in possession of explosives and a firearm that had been rendered inoperable by law enforcement prior to his arrest outside the Capitol. But MacBride stated that El Khalifi planned to use the weapon to shoot at U.S. Capitol Police in order to gain entrance to the building.

"He absolutely was the real deal," MacBride told reporters of the threat El Khalifi posed. "He believed he was working with an al Qaeda operative."

India-Pakistan
Mumbai Bombing Suspect Arrested in India
[Tolo News] Indian police have incarcerated
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a key suspect accused of co-ordinating the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which 166 people were killed and more than 300 maimed, media reports said Monday.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency quoted unnamed police sources as confirming the arrest of Abu Hamza, also known as Sayed Zabiuddin, an Indian-born member of the Pak Death Eater group Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains a blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
Hamza was allegedly one of the handlers based in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, Pakistain who issued instructions by telephone to the 10 gunnies as they stormed two luxury hotels, a Jewish centre, a restaurant and a train station in Mumbai.

Hamza, who has used a string of aliases, was incarcerated
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
at Delhi international airport on June 21 when he arrived from the Middle East and he has since been remanded in jug, PTI reported.

Pak national Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only gunman caught alive during the 60-hour assault on Mumbai in November 2008, was handed down a death sentence by the Bombay High Court last year.

PTI described Hamza as the 30-year-old "Hindi tutor" to the gunnies and said that he came from the western state of Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital.

Delhi police spokesmen told AFP they were unable to immediately comment on reports about the arrest.

India blames the Lashkar-e-Taiba Death Eater outfit, which is banned in Pakistain, for training, equipping and financing the Mumbai gunnies with support from "elements" in the Pakistain military.

Pakistain has indicted seven alleged perpetrators over the attacks but their trial, which began in 2009, has been beset by numerous delays triggering Indian accusations that the process is a sham.

The United States in April offered a $10 million reward for information leading to the conviction of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed
...who would be wearing a canvas jacket with very long sleeves anyplace but Pakistain...
, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba who lives openly in Pakistain and is accused of criminal masterminding the Mumbai attacks.

Gunmen kill three policemen in Quetta
[Dawn] Gunmen killed three coppers in a drive-by shooting on the outskirts of Quetta on Sunday, police said.

The shooting comes a day after gunnies on cycle of violences rubbed out eight men at a laundry in a busy area of Quetta, the capital of oil- and gas-rich Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province, before fleeing.

"Two gunnies riding a cycle of violence opened fire on a police mobile van, killing three coppers," senior local police official, Sikandar Tareen, told AFP.

He said that the incident happened while the coppers were on a routine patrol in the area.

Another local police official Abdul Qayyum also confirmed the incident and casualties.

Police and security forces are frequently attacked in insurgency-plagued Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan.

There was no claim of responsibility for the latest incident, but Balochistan suffers from religious militancy, sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia Moslems and a separatist insurgency.
