Afghanistan
Heavy Battles Ongoing In Fifteen Provinces: MoD
These kinds of problems, where there are attacks everywhere, go straight to the top...
The Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) said on Monday that currently security forces are fighting insurgents in 15 provinces in Afghanistan.

According to the ministry some areas where battles are raging are in areas that have fallen to the Taliban.

The MoD said that twenty planned operations are underway in fifteen provinces and commando forces are involved in eighteen special operations in the country.

The ministry also said that Taliban insurgents are well equipped in their fight against security forces.

"Such problems have been created in the districts where we don't have army troops and police troops are there, the enemy seized the opportunity and at night the enemy comes and seizes the center of the district for one or two hours or even one day," said Dawlat Waziri, the MoD's spokesman.

Military analysts believe that the collapse of districts and areas to the Taliban are because security forces are demoralized and exhausted.

"Increase in those battles has caused exhaustion which generally undermines the morale," said Mirza Mohammad Yarmand former deputy Interior Minister.

Six districts in Helmand have witnessed heavy clashes in recent weeks and parts of these districts have collapsed to the Taliban.

Recently, the Taliban took control of areas in Nawa and Garmsir districts of Helmand.

"Oppositions are advancing in the war, opponents have the war initiative but unfortunately the government is not organized (in the war) nor does it have experience from past battles," said Attiqullah Amarkhail a military analyst.

Parts of Helmand, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Baghlan, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Laghman, Paktiya, Paktika and Uruzgan provinces are all currently witnessing heavy clashes.

A shortage of military hardware and the lack of good war management in terms of delivering equipment to security forces on the battle fields is also seen as reasons for the high number of battles.

Talibunnies Seize More Than 20 Police Vehicles In Baghlan
And by "police vehicles" they mean Humvees.
The Taliban has reportedly seized more than 20 vehicles belonging to security forces - including police Rangers and Humvees – after taking control of Dahane Ghori district in Baghlan, said provincial council members.

According to reports, the district has been under siege by insurgents over the past week and fell to the Taliban on Sunday evening.

Baghlan provincial council member Mawlawi Raji said: "At least 18 Rangers belonging to the Afghan Local Police have been seized by the insurgents. Meanwhile, they [Taliban] took seven tanks (Humvees) belonging to security forces. I am not sure about the accuracy of this, but I urge security officials not to keep the truth secret."

However, Baghlan governor Abdul Satar Bariz said the security forces have made a tactical decision to pull back from the district.

"(Communication) connections are dead in the area and it is not known what has been seized by the enemy. The security forces have tactically retreated a few meters from the area," Bariz said.

Sirte – Libyan forces of Sarraj government continue to advance in Sirte after regaining control over buildings and currently trying to gain control over the remaining neighborhoods.

Photojournalists of Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that governmental forces are trying to advance towards neighborhood number 3 using light weapons, while the leadership announced it had gained control over the buildings of 1000 residential unit.

Media center of Solid Structure issued a statement saying that the forces are now in control of 1000 residential unit, the Indian buildings, and is advancing towards neighborhood number 2.

Since May 12, over 300 Solid Structure fighter died and over 1800 injured. Three months after its initiation, in June 2015, governmental forces announced it had regained control over Ouagadougou Conference Center, which was ISIS headquarters.

AFP photojournalists toured inside Sirte University and Ouagadougou Conference Center where slogans are still on the buildings. According to the photographer, destruction was everywhere and there were ISIS slogans threatening to attack Rome “We Fight in Libya, Our Eyes on Rome.”

War for oil terminals in east Libya looms
[Libya Observer] A Dignity Operation militia group has seized Zueitina town, some 180 km southwest of Benghazi, a move that could trigger a fierce fighting for the town's oil terminal.

So-called Brigade 153 of Dignity Operation, led by Muftah Shagloof, entered Zueitina last week and declared full control of the town expect the oil port, which is still under control of Ibrahim Jodran's so-called Petroleum Facilities Guard.

Shagloof's brigade has been deployed in Shirb district, 15km to the east of the port, while Ibrahim Jodran has put his gang on full alert to confront any attack.

Spokesperson of Ajdabiya Operation Room of Dignity Operation Akrm Abu Haliga said military preparations are underway to attack the port.

Ibrahim Jodran is at odds with Dignity Operation and its chief Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
Tripoli

s about the military escalation in Zueitina and warned both sides that any war there will lead to the destruction of the oil infrastructure, the country's main source of income.

The governments of La Belle France, Germany, Italia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States have also expressed concern at the increasing tension near Zueitina oil port. They called both sides to refrain from hostilities and avoid any action that could damage or disrupt Libya’s energy infrastructure.

Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos forces inform Italy of IS cell based in Milan
[Libya Observer] The Misrata-led forces, who have gripped most of Sirte city from IS Lions of Islam over the last few days, informed Italia of an IS terrorist cell based nearby Milan and linked to a terrorist warlord, who was previously deported by the Italian authorities.

The Libyan authorities found documents in Sirte after the Misrata-led forces captured main areas from IS Death Eaters, especially their main base in Ouagadougou Conference Halls, which fell to Al-Bunyan Al-Marsoos last week.

"The documents assure that there is an IS cell in Italia." The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported.

The terrorist cell, reportedly based in Milan’s San Siro neighborhood, has been connected with Abu Nassim, a Tunisian IS commander who is in his 40s and who lived in Italia for most of the 1990s. Abu Nassim’s real name is Moez Ben Abdelkader Fezzani, and he came to Italia in 1989 as a construction worker, wrote the Italian newspaper.

"It’s believed that Abu Nassim travelled to Afghanistan, where he fought for Al-Qaeda and he was tossed in the calaboose
You have the right to remain silent...
by the US forces in 2001 when he spent eight years at the infamous Bagram airbase detention facility before being transferred to Italia." Corriere della Sera reported.

Abu Nassim was found not guilty of terrorist recruitment in 2012 by an Italian court and he was deported to Tunisia yet after an appeal against the ruling was filed, Abu Nassim was convicted. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
it was too late as Abu Nassim was already fighting with IS Lions of Islam in Syria. He is now said to be in charge of IS forces around the Libyan port of Sabratha since 2014.

Italia remains on high alert for fear that IS Death Eaters, who are fleeing Sirte, would come to the country on boats disguised as asylum seekers and migrants colonists.

Haitham Tajouri’s militia attack Tripoli intelligence buildings
[Libya Herald] Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
is tense this evening after Haitham Tajouri sent his Tripoli Revolutionaries’ Brigade militia to attack predominantly Misratan intelligence personnel in the capital today and is thought to want to arrest Sheikh Sadek Ghariani, head of the Dar Al-Islam.

The chief of intelligence, Mohammed Muftah Nuh, a Misratan, is believed to be on a visit to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
In early morning raids with technicals and armoured cars, members of Tajouri’s TRB took over the Intelligence HQ in Fornaj, a building in Salaheddin and a site in Ain Zara as well as the intelligence offices at Mitiga Airport and Tripoli port.

There are unconfirmed reports that one man died in the Fornaj attack. The three portable cabins used by intelligence officers in Ain Zara came under heavy fire early in the morning and were burnt down. Militiamen also stormed some nearby apartments apparently searching for particular individuals.

Though no precise figure is yet clear, one source has said that "many" intelligence personnel have been seized. It is also understood that Tajouri’s men were supported by some intelligence officers who oppose what they see as Misratan and Islamist domination of the intelligence apparatus.

Nuh was an economy minister in Ali Zeidan’s government. He is said to be close to the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and to have caused resentment in the intelligence establishment by appointing Misratans to key positions.

It is also being reported that Tajouri is seeking to arrest Ghariani. Posters have been seen in Tripoli with a picture of the former Grand Mufti with a "No Entry" sign across his face. The posters read "No to the Moslem Brüderbund" and "Stop the bloodshed".

Khartoum accuses Benghazi militants of using Sudanese workers as human shields
No way!
[Libya Herald] The foreign ministry in Khartoum says that holy warriors in Benghazi’s Ganfouda district are forcibly using some 200 Sudanese workers trapped there as human shields in fighting over the past four days with the Libyan National Army (LNA). Five had been killed as a result of air raids, it said today.

According to a ministry front man, the Sudanese are being prevented from leaving. The ministry learned about the situation and the deaths, he added, when one of the trapped workers managed to contact the Sudanese consulate in Benghazi.

The ministry, the front man explained, had now been in touch with the foreign ministry in the Beida-based interim government of Abdullah Al-Thinni over the matter. It, had promised to try to ensure the immediate evacuation of the Sudanese in cooperation with the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy.

CIA asset Boko Haram releases videos showing masked gunman with kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls
CIA asset? Where did that idea come from?
[SOTT.NET] Footage purportedly showing Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
's new leader has emerged online, displaying a masked gunman demanding that Nigeria's government release their fighters in exchange for the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls.

The new video is thought to feature Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the recently appointed successor to Abubakar Shekau
... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fire by the Caliph and refused to step down ...
, who has not been seen since early 2015.

While as yet unverified, the video is similar to previous Boko Haram releases.

In the 11-minute clip, a man dressed in military clothing with a gun slung across his shoulder claims that a number of the kidnapped girls have been killed in Nigerian air strikes, while at least 50 young women in head scarves can be seen lined up against a darkened backdrop.

One of the captives, identified by the BBC as Maida Yakubu, is then directed to appeal to her parents to put pressure on the Nigerian government to release imprisoned Boko Haram fighters.

"We are suffering here, the aircraft has come to bombard us and killed many of us. Some are maimed. Every day we are in pains and suffering. Some of our husbands that we married also are injured, some dead. No one cares for us," the girl is reported to have said.

Posted to Twitter on Sunday by a Nigerian journalist, the broadcast claims to be a message to the "family of Chibok girls".

in Austria on suspicion of drugging and gang raping a German tourist on New Year's Day.

Police in Vienna confirmed that the men aged between 21 and 47 were detained and all were either granted asylum in Austria or applying for it.

The nine men are alleged to have taken the woman from Vienna's downtown Schwedenplatz station and then assaulted her in an apartment where two of the suspects lived.

The woman was in town visiting a friend but had become separated from her during the New Year's celebrations.

Police say the female victim, who had been drinking, suspects she was drugged as she has no recollection of being taken to the apartment.

Officers are now using DNA evidence and video surveillance to build their case.

Turkey's purge continues - Tuesday Aug. 16
Mopping up the last vestiges of resistance...
Istanbul police raid courts for coup suspects – report

[IsraelTimes] Turkish police on Monday raided three major courts in Istanbul in search of more than 170 suspects wanted over last month’s attempted coup, reports said. Police began searches of the city’s main Caglayan court and courts in the districts of Gaziosmanpasa and Bakirkoy with arrest warrants for 173 prosecutors and other judicial staff working there, the Dogan news agency said.

It was not clear how many suspects had been detained in the raids.

According to official figures, more than 35,000 people have been detained so far in the post-coup crackdown against alleged Gulen supporters, although 11,597 of these have since been released.

Convicted Turkish editor steps down after coup

[IsraelTimes] The editor-in-chief of Turkey’s top opposition daily Cumhuriyet announced on Monday he was stepping down, saying he no longer had faith in the judiciary to hear an appeal in a controversial secrecy trial after the failed coup. He said he would be passing on the post of editor-in-chief but would remain writing articles as a columnist.

An Istanbul court had in May sentenced Can Dundar to five years and 10 months in prison for allegedly revealing state secrets in a story that infuriated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Dundar was allowed to go free pending appeal after the trial and is now believed to be in Germany. But he said he would not surrender to the judiciary as the state of emergency imposed after the coup meant he would not get a fair hearing.

He said all the signs indicated a period of “lawlessness” was under way, and that the state of emergency was being used by the government as a pretext to arbitrarily control the judiciary.

Dundar, a hugely prominent figure in Turkey and author of several books and documentaries, was appointed Cumhuriyet editor in February 2015 and swiftly made it Turkey’s sharpest opposition daily. Its report on a shipment of arms intercepted at the Syrian border in January 2014 sparked a furor when it was published in May 2015, with Erdogan warning Dundar himself he would “pay a heavy price.”

Dundar, together with his Ankara bureau chief Erdem Gul, spent three months in pre-trial detention, before being freed on February 26 under a constitutional court ruling.

FETÖ-linked publications at schools to be seized, destroyed

[Hurriyet] Turkey’s Education Ministry has asked educational institutions throughout the country to collect and destroy any books published by groups linked to the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ), which has been blamed for the failed July 15 coup, Turkish news website Duvar reported Aug. 14.

In an Aug. 9 letter to schools, the ministry listed 29 publishing houses, 15 magazines and 45 dailies which were identified as being linked to FETÖ and banned as part of a decree law passed under the state of emergency that was implemented following the July 15 coup attempt. The letter demanded school administrations confiscate and destroy publications belonging to the sources.

Previously, in line with a demand from the Bakırköy Public Prosecutor’s Office, a court ruled that all books, CDs, DVDs and other electronic materials published by Fethullah Gülen, the founder and leader of FETÖ, be seized on the grounds that they constituted “terrorist propaganda.”

Turkish chief public prosecutor bound for Syria caught on border

[Hurriyet] A chief public prosecutor who illegally attempted to cross into Syria after a detention warrant was issued against him as part of an investigation into the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ) was detained on the border province of Kilis late on Aug. 14.

Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor Ekrem Beyaztaş was caught after he disobeyed warnings by soldiers to stop on the border of the Afrin border post in the Duruca village. The Kilis Governor’s Office said in a statement that judicial and administrative proceedings against the prosecutor had begun. Turkey’s Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) suspended Beyaztaş from duty after the failed coup attempt of July 15.

Meanwhile, two staff colonels who fled after the coup attempt and were reportedly planning to flee to Egypt were caught in the Central Anatolian province of Konya on Aug. 14.

The Konya Organized Crime Department determined that Staff Colonels Nebi Gazneli and Müslüm Kaya were hiding in a house in the Selçuklu district after their arrival in the area on Aug. 6. The soldiers were detained in a special forces operation at around 10:30 p.m. while the brother of Gazneli, Ömer Gazneli, who allegedly helped them hide, was also detained in a simultaneous operation at his house.

Gazneli reportedly said in his testimony that he conducted discussions to ensure his brother and Kaya could flee to Egypt on Aug. 16. He also confessed that the duo buried their service pistols and bullets in the garden of the house.

The two staff colonels reportedly ordered soldiers to raid the Turkish Radio and Television Association (TRT) and open fire on people on Istanbul’s Bosphorus Bridge on the night of the failed coup attempt. The two colonels are expected to be transferred to Istanbul for interrogation.

Meanwhile, a lieutenant and two sergeants on duty on İmralı Island, where the leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Abdullah Öcalan, has been kept in jail since 1999, were detained by anti-terror police over their suspected links to the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen as a part of the FETÖ probe in the northwestern province of Bursa.

The detained security officials, H.Ü., H.U. and M.S., who were in the gendarmerie unit responsible for security outside the high-security jail, were previously suspended over their suspected links to the Gülenists. They were later detained in their houses in Bursa pending an appearance in court.

2 Turkish kops die Kurd Kommie bombing in Diyarbakir
[AlArabiya] Two Turkish police officers and a child were killed on Monday in a car bombing outside the southeastern city of Diyarbakir blamed on Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) rebels, local officials said.

The blast hit a police control post on the highway leading southeast from Diyarbakir to the city of Batman, the local governor’s office said in a statement, adding that 25 people were wounded including five police officers.

Television images showed the bombing had turned the three-storey police building to tangled rubble. Locals were also inspecting the massive trench where the ground had been blown out.

The latest bombing came after at least eight people, mostly civilians, were killed on Wednesday in two separate attacks blamed on PKK militants in Turkey’s southeast.

It also came on the day seen as marking the 32nd anniversary of the launch of the PKK’s armed rebellion by radical Kurdish nationalist Marxists led by their now jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Hundreds of members of the Turkish security forces have been killed by the PKK in attacks since the collapse of a two-year ceasefire in July last year.

The PKK has kept up attacks after the July 15 failed coup that tried to oust President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from power and the authorities blamed on US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen.

The government has vowed there will be no let-up in the fight against the PKK even in the wake of the coup.

There has been no suggestion that the PKK was behind the coup and Gulen is believed in the past to have vehemently opposed peace talks with the group.

But some officials have alleged the PKK has helped Gulen supporters flee the post-coup crackdown into northern Iraq or Europe, sometimes in exchange for information about the Turkish intelligence services.

Meanwhile, three soldiers serving on the Imrali prison island where Ocalan has been held since his capture in 1999 have also been detained as part of the investigation into the coup, the state-run Anadolu news agency said.

Over 40,000 people have been killed since the PKK first took up arms in 1984. It is proscribed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.

August 15 is usually seen as the anniversary of the start of the deadly campaign of violence by the PKK which began with twin attacks in 1984.

Clearing out prison, US sends 15 Guantanamo detainees to UAE
[IsraelTimes] Largest release of terror suspects under Obama comes as president tries to make good on promise to shutter facility

Fifteen prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center were sent to the United Arab Emirates in the single largest release of detainees during the B.O. regime, the Pentagon announced Monday.

The transfer of 12 Yemeni nationals and three Afghans to the UAE comes amid a renewed push to whittle down the number of detainees held at the US prison in Cuba that President Barack Obama
teachable moment...
wants to close.

The Pentagon says 61 detainees now remain at Guantanamo, which was opened in January 2002 to hold imported muscle suspected of links to the Taliban or the al-Qaeda terrorist organization. During the Bush administration, 532 prisoners were released from Guantanamo, often in large groups to Afghanistan and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
The latest batch of released prisoners had mostly been held without charge for some 14 years at Guantanamo. They were cleared for release by the Periodic Review Board, comprised of representatives from six US government agencies.

The UAE successfully resettled five detainees transferred there last year, according to the Pentagon.

Lee Wolosky, the State Department’s special envoy for Guantanamo’s closure, said the US was grateful to the United Arab Emirates for accepting the latest group of 15 men and helping pave the way for the detention center’s closure.

"The continued operation of the detention facility weakens our national security by draining resources, damaging our relationships with key allies and partners, and emboldening violent murderous Moslems," Wolosky said.

Obama has been seeking to close the detention center amid opposition from Congress, which has prohibited transferring detainees to the US for any reason. The administration has been working with other countries to resettle detainees who have been cleared for transfer.

Naureen Shah, Amnesia Amnesty International USA’s director of national security and human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
, said the transfers announced Monday are a "powerful sign that President B.O. is serious about closing Guantanamo before he leaves office."

According to Amnesty, one of the Afghans released to the UAE alleged that he was "tortured and subjected to other cruel treatment" while in US military custody. The man, identified only as Obaidullah, was captured by US special forces in July 2002 and allegedly admitted to acquiring and planting anti-tank mines to target US and other coalition forces in eastern Afghanistan.

In clearing him for transfer, the review board said he hasn’t expressed any anti-US sentiment or intent to re-engage in bad boy activities. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
a Pentagon detainee profile also said he provided little information and they had little "insight into his current mindset."

One of the Yemeni men sent to the UAE was identified as Zahir Umar Hamis bin Hamdun, who traveled to Afghanistan in 1999 and later apparently acted as a weapons and explosives trainer.

A Pentagon profile from September 2015 said he expressed dislike of the US, which they identified as "an emotion that probably is motivated more by frustration over his continuing detention than by a commitment to global jihad."

#2  Detainees equal intel...which equals additional targets. Period. Lack of a reasonable location to place detainees harms the long term war effort - the lack of a location to detain HVDs forces planners to go from kill/capture missions to only kill/"drone" missions...we miss a lot of intel and additional targets.

Lack of a reasonable policy and the determination to prosecute war criminals once detained is an injustice to the victims and their families.

Many of these "terror suspects" have victims associated with their war crimes that will not see Justice served because of the deliberate indifference on the behalf of our leaders. We need to force movement on the Military Commissions and prosecution in Federal or Host Nation courts to keep the killers off the battlefields.

Many additional victims will be harmed/killed due to the inability to capture, detain, interrogate, and action on the corroborated intel gained from the interviews and interrogations...future killers remain off the target lists and terror finaciers go unfettered .

India-Pakistan
India violates LoC ceasefire, shells houses
[DAWN] MUZAFFARABAD: As Pakistan began celebrating its Independence Day, Indian troops resorted to unprovoked shelling of the Nezapir sector in Haveli district in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

"Indian troops started shelling at about 2am, using all types of heavy weapons, including mortar and artillery," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. "The shelling lasted till 8.30am, during which...rounds hit some civilian houses near the LoC, but no loss of life was reported."

Pak troops, it said, responded to Indian firing in a befitting manner.

On the other hand, Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted Indian police and defence officials as accusing Pakistain Army of opening the fire.

A 50-year-old Indian woman was injured when the Pakistain Army targeted Indian posts along the LoC in the Poonch sector, the PTI said.

"Kasim Jan, a resident of Shahpur village, was injured when she was hit by splinters of a mortar shell" fired from across the LoC, a police officer said.

According to the ISPR, Pakistain Army’s Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on hotline in the afternoon and lodged a protest over the targeting of Pak posts and civilians.

In 2003, Pakistain and India reached a landmark agreement to maintain ceasefire along the unmarked LoC (Line of Control). However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
several violations have occurred since.

ISIS Executes Six 'Spies' By Boiling Them In Tar After Iraqi Sharia Court Ruling
[Iraq Sun] Six people have been put to death by Isis ‐ by being immersed in boiling vats of tar, it’s been reported.

The gruesome act was carried out in public at an Isis command centre in al-Shora in Iraq, ’with the aim of inciting fear among the citizens’.

The six, from djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, were accused by Isis of being spies for the Iraqi government.

A source told Iraqi News: ’Isis executed six persons in Mosul for collaborating with Nineveh Operations Command. The death sentence was issued [by an] Isis Sharia Court.

’The six persons were placed inside tanks containing boiling tar and the execution was carried out in one of Isis headquarters at al-Shora. The execution took place... with an aim of inciting fear among the citizens.’

The grotesque act follows evidence being revealed that Isis has been using mustard gas on the front line in Iraq.

Troops fighting against the terror group have been left with appalling injuries ‐ including agonising blisters on their skin and badly damaged lungs ‐ in a frightening echo of warfare in the trenches on the Western Front.

Two marines injured as bombings hit southern Thailand
[The Nation] Two Thai marines were injured in a double bombing targeting their teacher-protection unit in Narathiwat's Bacho district yesterday morning, while small explosives planted at four locations in Tambon Yaha in Yala's Yaha district went off on Sunday night without any casualties.

In Bacho, following an early report about two blasts targeting eight soldiers riding four motorcycles, Bacho superintendent Pol Colonel Patta Madawa led a team to inspect the scene. The first bomb hit the motorcycle ridden by team leader and a private, while the second blast - believed to have targeted those responding to the first incident - went off ten minutes later without causing injuries.

On Sunday night, a series of small bombings in the Yaha municipality area caused damage to the facades of four shops, and another bomb was defused.

2 soldiers die in IED attack in Lebanon
[AlArabiya] Lebanese state media say that a roadside bomb near the country's eastern border with Syria has wounded two Lebanese soldiers.

The National News Agency says the explosion struck an army vehicle in the Arsal region and that the wounds sustained by the troops were minor. The blast was followed by the soldiers opening fire with heavy weapons at militant positions nearby.

Violence from neighboring Syria's civil war has spilled across the border into Lebanon in the past. ISIS and al-Qaeda militants briefly seized the Lebanese border town of Arsal in 2014, before Lebanese security forces pushed them back to the frontier.

The Lebanese army shares security responsibilities with the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group in the area.

ISIS troops attack Kurd positions in Hasakah
[ARA News] HASAKAH – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Monday launched an offensive on Kurdish positions in northeastern Syria, bombing headquarters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Hasakah province, military sources and activists reported.

ISIS militants launched a mortar attack on the YPG security centre in the Azawi village of Shaddadi district in the southern countryside of Hasakah, killing and wounding scores of Kurdish forces.

“The terrorist group [ISIS] has attacked our headquarters in Azawi near Shaddadi city from four directions, using mortar fire and other heavy weapons,” a YPG spokesman told ARA News, adding that scores of their fighters were killed and injured.

At least three YPG forces lost their lives and five more wounded in the attack.

“Our forces were eventually able to repel the attack and destroy four ISIS vehicles. Also six terrorists were killed in clashes with our fighters,” the YPG official reported.

In the meantime, local media activists Muhammad al-Ahmed told ARA News that the clashes reached the city of Shaddadi before the YPG was able to force the militants to withdraw.

“Monday’s infiltration by ISIS was one of the most serious attacks on Shaddadi since the group’s expulsion from the area six months ago,” al-Ahmed said.

In mid February 2016, Kurdish YPG units and allied fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the liberation of Shaddadi city in Hasakah province from the Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants, after months of battles with the radical group. ISIS militants had evacuated their headquarters in Shaddadi under heavy bombardment by the Kurdish-Arab alliance of the SDF. “More than 275 ISIS militants were killed and 33 ISIS vehicles were destroyed at the hands of the SDF fighters in the battle for Shaddadi,” the SDF spokesman Talal Silo had told ARA News at the time.

The progress came after the SDF units, supported by an air cover from the U.S.-led coalition, cut off the main supply route for the ISIS radical group in al-Hawl near Syria’s northeastern border with Iraq. However, since then ISIS has been trying to infiltrate into the area, launching several car bomb attacks.

Furthermore, the SDF alliance had seized control of a key gas facility and main financial resource for the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province in early February, 2016. The western-backed forces regained control of the Jibisa gas facility, located about 12km east of Shaddadi city in southern Hasakah.

The facility had been used by ISIS for nearly two years as a source to fund its operations. Informed sources told ARA News that ISIS used to produce 5,000 gas cylinders a day in Jibisa to be sold at the black-market. Local sources reported that ISIS has been coordinating with the Syrian regime to sell the gas it used to extract from Jibisa fields, and that the regime’s employees have been working in the facility even during ISIS control.

Jibisa gas facility is considered one of the main gas facilities in northern Syria for its huge production that has been feeding power stations in central Syria. The facility was run by some 500 workers, including specialized engineers, technicians and workers.

Regime army recovers positions southwest of Aleppo city
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian opposition activists say a push by an alliance of rebel groups to open a new front with regime forces in Aleppo has failed.

The activists and the websites reported Monday that the rebels retreated from positions they seized near a cement factory a day earlier on the southwestern outskirts of the city.

Fierce fighting began Sunday and lasted for hours around key army positions at the cement factory. Aleppo has become the focal point of the war.

Cement Factory is considered one of the most important military fortification for regime army and its militias and the regime uses the factory as military barracks. The factory includes huge building on which regime placed snipers, machine guns and spread mines in its surrounding making it difficult for any faction to advance.

Cement Factory and Jamiyet al-Zahraa were heavily bombed by warplanes which targeted Syrian resistance locations forcing them to withdraw.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 35 rebels were killed in the fighting.

Syria rebels kill Hizballah commander during failed Aleppo offensive
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian rebels killed a senior Hizballah leader on Monday as they led a failed assault on a regime barracks in Aleppo, according to a source in the Army of Conquest military operations room.

The source told The New Arab that a Hizballah commander was killed as rebels attempted to take control of a former cement plant turned into a regime army base southeast of Aleppo's Ramouseh district.

"We have failed to take back control of regime-controlled cement factory and water plant, however, we managed control part of the supply line from the south of the city," he said.

Lebanese Shia bully boy group Hizballah has been a major backer of the regime of Bashir al-Assad since the beginning of the of the five-year conflict.

The failed assault was spearheaded by Syria's re-branded al-Qaeda branch, the Nusra Front, which now goes by the name of Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.

Fierce fighting began on Sunday and lasted for hours around key army positions at the cement factory, where a large amount of weapons and military vehicles are stored.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights [SOHR] said at least 35 rebels were killed in the fighting.

Fighting in Aleppo has intensified after regime troops seized control of the last supply route into rebel-held areas in mid-July, after a nearly three-week siege, rebels took Ramouseh on August 6, linking up with opposition-held areas.

The Army of Conquest then announced an ambitious bid to capture all of Aleppo, which if successful would be the biggest opposition victory yet in Syria's conflict.

The rebels have been attempting to secure the supply lines into rebel-held districts, as air raids have pounded areas held by the Army of Conquest, an alliance of rebel, Islamist and jihadist forces.

The air raids, which began Saturday and continued Sunday have killed at least 51 civilians in and around Aleppo and 22 in neighbouring Idlib province, according to the SOHR.

Aleppo, Syria's former economic hub and a focal point of the war, has been divided between a rebel-held east and regime-controlled west since mid-2012.

The increased fighting has raised concerns for the estimated 1.5 million civilians still in Aleppo, including some 250,000 in rebel-held areas.

The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
has called for regular 48-hour pauses in the fighting to allow aid into the city, which has suffered from severe shortages of food, water and medical supplies.

Russia deploys jets at Iranian Airbase to combat insurgents in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] Al-Masdar News has obtained exclusive photos of Russian warplanes being deployed to the Hamedan Air Base in western Iran.

Currently, the strategic TU-22M3 bombers take flight from southern Russia at Modzok airfield; however, this newly signed military agreement with Iran will allow Russia to reduce flight time by 60%, saving the Kremlin both money and improving Arclight airstrike effectiveness.

The distance of these flights equal roughly 2,150km to reach a target near Palmyra. In comparison, the Hamedan Air Base in Iran is roughly 900km from Palmyra.

The Khmeimim Airbase in Latakia province ‐ which Russia was granted access to in late 2015 ‐ is not suitable for the massive TU-22M3, one of the largest bomber jets in the world.

The Russian military is yet to announce how many TU-22M3 will be operating from the Iranian airbase.

This developement indicates significantly improved political relations between Iran and Russia, two priceless allies for Damascus.

Moments ago, Russia also requested Iraq and Iran airspace allowance to transport cruise missiles into Syria.

#3  This is great news from the Green perspective. Strategic bombers burn fossil fuel. Shorter flying time means less dangerous CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. Gaia smiles.

Syrian Army, Hezbollah begin counter-attack in southern Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah launched a counter-attack at the 1070 Al-Hamdaniyah Housing Project tonight, targeting the remaining buildings that are under the control of Jaish Al-Fateh (Army of Conquest) inside Aleppo City.

Led by the Republican Guard, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah stormed Jaish Al-Fateh’s defenses tonight after the latter failed to advance during their large-scale offensive around the picturesque provincial capital.

A military source inside Aleppo City told Al-Masdar News on Monday night that the Syrian Armed Forces are steadily advancing inside the 1070 Housing Project; and that it could be captured by dawn, if the jihadist rebels fail to reinforce the southern parts of this district.

While the Syrian Armed Forces advance on the ground, the Russian Air Force is pounding the jihadist rebels along the Idlib-Aleppo axis; this rural area is the location of Jaish Al-Fateh’s main supply line to the picturesque provincial capital.

Islamists fail to capture Al-Rai in northern Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] A large group of Salafist tough guys launched a new offensive in the northern Aleppo countryside on Monday, targeting the key town of Al-Rai, which is currently under the control of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

Led by Jaish Al-Tahrir, Sultan Murad Brigades, and Jabhat Al-Shamiya, the Salafist tough guys attacked the Al-Rai Grain Silos, where they were confronted by an exhausted Islamist State force.

Initially, the Salafist tough guys were able to capture the Al-Rai Grain Silos; however, their attempt to enter this strategic village was foiled by the Islamic State Lions of Islam after a fierce battle on Monday evening.

Following this battle at Al-Rai village, the Islamic State launched a counter-attack to recapture the Grain Silos; this assault would prove successful, as the terrorist group expelled the remaining Islamists from area.
