#2  Janet Gaynor (October 6, 1906 – September 14, 1984) was an American actress and painter.

One of the most popular actresses of the silent film era, in 1928 Gaynor became the first winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performances in three films: Seventh Heaven (1927), Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) and Street Angel (1928). This was the only occasion on which an actress has won one Oscar for multiple film roles. This rule would be changed three years later by AMPAS. Her career as the primary actress of Fox Studios continued with the advent of sound film, and she achieved a notable success in the original version of A Star Is Born (1937).

She chose to work only occasionally after her marriage to film costume designer Adrian in 1939. In addition to acting, Gaynor was an accomplished visual artist and her oil paintings were featured at the Wally Findlay Galleries show in New York, March 25 to April 7, 1977.

She was severely injured in a 1982 vehicle collision, which contributed to her death two years later.

Two Somalis Killed, Swedish Politician Wounded in Mogadishu Attack
[An Nahar] Gunmen killed two Somalis and maimed a Swedish female politician in Mogadishu on Wednesday when they opened fire on their car in the latest attack in the troubled city, police said.
Garowe Online describes it as a failed kidnapping attempt.
"A security guard and a driver was killed and a female foreigner has been injured after gunnies attacked them," said police official Abdi Mohamed.

One of the Somali men who was killed may also have held Swedish nationality, but it could not be immediately confirmed.

"Ann-Margarethe Livh, group leader of the Left Party in Stockholm, suffered a gunshot wound in Mogadishu today," her party's spokeswoman Aasa Mattsson told Agence La Belle France Presse. Livh works in Stockholm city council.

Madelen Cartagena Castillo, a family member of 64-year old Livh, told Sweden's SVT television that "she is injured but able to speak."
"What'd she say?""'Ow.'"
Swedish foreign ministry spokeswoman Lena Tranberg said she was rushed to a hospital run by African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
soldiers, a U.N.-mandated force that backs the government.

"She has been in contact with our ambassador in Nairobi to prepare her medical transfer to Nairobi," Tranberg said.

Livh was reportedly in Mogadishu for a conference on democracy, and was travelling to visit a university when the attack took place around the K4 roundabout, a busy intersection in the heart of Somalia's capital.

Witnesses said the gunnies were in a car and tried to block the vehicle carrying the woman and her guards.

"The gunnies, who drove a car, opened fire on the car with the white lady inside," said Shamso Ismail, a witness. "One of her security guards was killed and a driver... then they fled after the shooting."

Security forces arrest 36 more Brotherhood members
[Al Ahram] A security source stated on Tuesday that not less than 36 members of the Moslem Brüderbund including leaders have been recently locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
In statements published in Ahram Arabic news website earlier Wednesday, security sources said most of the incarcerated

work at the administrative offices of the Moslem Brüderbund, and have been arrested for involvement in recent bloody festivities including at Al Nahda square in Giza.

Earlier on Wednesday, famous Islamist preacher Safwat Hegazy was arrested on his way to the Siwa oasis in Egypt's western desert.

Hegazy was arrested while disguised as a Bedouin.
"Heh heh! No one will recognize me in this burnoose and stuff!"
"Stick 'em up!"

Hegazy, who was widely accused of incitement against the Moslem Brüderbund's opponents as well Christians and the Egyptian army, has been accused of murder, torture and incitement to violence.

Also on Wednesday, Mourad Ali, a Moslem Brüderbund member and media advisor of the Freedom and Justice Party, was arrested at Cairo International Airport on his way to Rome.
"Heh heh! Once I'm in Rome I'll be able to do as the Romans do!"
"Stick 'em up!"

Late on Monday, Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie was also arrested. He is expected to stand trial on 25 August with five other leading Brotherhood figures, including Deputy Guide Khairat El-Shater, on charges of inciting murder at the Brotherhood headquarters festivities last June.

Brotherhood member detained over abuse at Ittihadiya clashes
[Al Ahram] Heliopolis prosecution orders the detention of Moslem Brüderbund member Alaa Hamza for 15 days again, pending investigations into charges of holding anti-Morsi protesters against their will.

Hamza was summoned by prosecutors in mid-April for interrogations on accusations that he held and mistreated protesters near the Ittihadiya presidential palace in December 2012.

He was released on bail later in May and prosecution referred his case to criminal court in June.

Hamza had denied the accusations against him, saying that he did not hold any protesters or physically abuse them, adding that he only asked them about their reasons for presence at the protest.

Videos posted online after the violence in December -- which resulted in several deaths -- showed protesters being tied up, interrogated and physically assaulted by bearded men near the presidential palace in Heliopolis.

Hamza appeared in some of these videos interrogating captured protesters. Some of those who testified also accused Hamza of involvement in torturing the captured.

LoC firing: Pakistan Army captain killed
[Dawn] A Mighty Pak Army officer was killed and a soldier maimed after an exchange of fire across the de facto border with India, the Pak military said.

The Pakistain army said in a statement that Captain Sarfraz was killed "due to Indian troops' unprovoked shelling at Shakma sector on line of control."

According to the statement, another soldier was also seriously injured when Indian forces shot up Shakma sector near the town of Skardu on Tuesday night at 11:15pm local time.

Pak troops responded to the firing and exchange of fire continued for several hours after midnight, said the sources.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia grabbed for Jane's hair to make her point. Jane elbowed her in the face in rebuttal...
Pakistain's foreign ministry late Wednesday said the Indian deputy high commissioner in Islamabad was summoned and "a strong protest was lodged over the unprovoked firing by Indian army soldiers".

"Pakistain conveyed its serious concern on the continued violations of the ceasefire across the LoC by the Indian Army over the past few weeks and the escalation of tensions," the statement said, calling upon India "to take serious and credible measures to prevent further ceasefire violations and reduce tensions".

An Indian army official told news agency AFP that he had no information about the incident or the casualties reported.

Pakistan Links Quetta 'Bomb-Making Factory' to Attacks
[An Nahar] Pak authorities said Wednesday that a boom-mobile factory where troops confiscated more than 100 tones of chemicals had been used in recent attacks on troops and minority Shiite Musselmens.

Paramilitary troops found wires, detonators and mixers to turn the chemicals into bombs during Tuesday's raid in the city of Quetta, a flashpoint for sectarian, Islamist and separatist attacks.

Eleven people have now been tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
in connection with the case and the owner of the compound has been tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
for questioning, said a front man for the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC).

Suspects told Sherlocks that potassium chlorate and ammonium chlorate had been packed with wires and detonators into vehicles at the compound, a paramilitary official said.

Experts believe the compound was effectively a bomb-making factory, which had prepared explosives used in recent kabooms on military targets and Shiites.

"We have recovered a machine which is basically a mixer, used to mix chemicals to make bombs. We have recovered sulphur and hundreds meter of wire," said the FC front man.

"We have also recovered 79 remote controls and short circuit wires. Some 20,000 kilograms of explosive were ready at the factory and just needed to be fitted into vehicles," he added.

Former PPP nazim arrested in link to Quetta bomb factory
[Dawn] Security forces Wednesday night tossed in the calaboose

former Nazim Quetta, Mir Maqbool Ahmed Lehri of Pakistain People's Party (PPP) in connection with seizure of more than 100 tons of explosives from a warehouse in the Balochistan

capital, raided on Tuesday.

An official of the Frontier Corps, who did not wish to be named, told Dawn.com that police backed by security forces nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
Lehri from his residence late on Wednesday night.

Lehri is the provincial leader of Pakistain People's Party. He had served as the city Nazim during former president Gen (retd) Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
's regime.

The FC official said senior police and security officers were interrogating the former Nazim for allegedly possessing kabooms.

He said Mir Maqbool Ahmed Lehri was the owner of the warehouse where forces had recovered 100 tons of kabooms from on Tuesday.

The FC had foiled a major bid of terrorism by seizing 104,480 kilogram of explosives and arresting ten suspected myrmidons.

"For the first time such huge quantity of kaboom has been seized in the history of country," FC commandant Colonel Maqbool Ahmed said.

Another paramilitary official earlier on Wednesday said that the warehouse where troops confiscated more than 100 tons of chemicals had been used in recent attacks on troops and minority Shia Moslems.

Iraq
16 turbans titzup in Iraq
[OMANTRIBUNE] Kirkuk Violence in Iraq killed a policeman and two civilians on Tuesday, officials said, and 16 forces of Evil died as security forces conducted wide-ranging operations to combat the country's worst violence since 2008.

Separate bombings at a livestock market and a cop shoppe north of Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
killed three people, including a policeman, and maimed nine others, security and medical officials said.

Sixteen forces of Evil were also killed north of the capital.

Nine died and four were maimed in an apparent dispute between Death Eater groups, when a bomb targeting a vehicle went kaboom! south of the disputed city of Kirkuk.

Though most of the Death Eaters, allegedly linked to Al Qaeda, were Iraqi Arabs, one was a Kurd and another was Turkman, security officials said.

Separately, United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
said that the UN has learned from an attack in Storied Baghdad that killed 22 staff members a decade ago.

But some survivors present at the remembrance ceremony criticised the global body's handling of the crisis.

"We are changing the way we operate around the world," Ban said, adding the UN has tried to boost mission security and care for employees in dangerous situations.

"We also recognise our obligations to stand side by side with families of the victims in their long journey to healing."

But survivor Laura Dolci-Kannan said many who made it through the attack alive have left the service "due to the organization's inability to reintegrate them with dignity."

Communist rebels seize Philppine soldier in Mindanao
Philippine communist militants said they are holding a Philippine soldier prisoner whose unit was accused of being behind the murders of civilians in the southern province of Compostela Valley.

Daniel Ibarra, a spokesman for the New People Army, said Private First Class Rodello Canada Arigonan is being held as prisoner of war. The soldier was captured during an NPA raid on the headquarters of the 71st Infantry Battalion. Ibarra claimed 11 army soldiers were killed and injured in the attack.

Ibarra said, "The [Philippine military] perpetrates the worst forms of violence in the countryside with its US-designed Oplan Bayanihan. The military's counter-revolutionary campaign forces the evacuation and dislocation of peasants to kowtow to the interest of land grabbers and big miners in Compostela Valley. Military units, like the children killer 71st Infantry Battalion, are responsible for the most despicable crimes against the people.

"As the NPA keeps custody of Arigonan as its prisoner of war, it will hold accountable elements of the reactionary armed force who continue to abuse poor peasants and indigenous peoples in the countryside. The NPA actively seeks and pursues revolutionary justice in the face of the US-Aquino regime's continuing apathy."

Truck Carrying Hidden Rockets Seized in Bekaa
[An Nahar] A truck coming from Syria and carrying 10 hidden rockets was seized on Wednesday in the Bekaa.

"The Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau seized a truck that carried 10 hidden 107 mm rockets," LBCI television reported.

"The rockets were hidden in a secret place in the vehicle."

LBCI added that the driver was tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
It noted that he is a Lebanese national who hails from the border region of Wadi Khaled.

Future TV remarked that the Grad rockets
...Soviet-developed 122-mm rockets, usually launched from trucks. Newer versions are reported to have a range of up to 30 km....
were found in the truck.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats grabbed his rosco...
MTV said that the Intelligence Bureau seized the rockets on Tuesday night.

On Sunday, a car containing five boxes of TNT, kaboom, fuses and detonators along with a device to remotely detonate it was found in the town of Naameh in the Shouf district of Mount Leb.

Reports said eight people, of Lebanese and Paleostinian nationalities, were found involved in the scheme to detonate the booby-trapped car.

The same sources added that the suspects are believed to be supporters of Islamic holy man Ahmed al-Asir.

#1  Ten 107s. I suppose you could get them into a pickup truck or panel truck, but you couldn't hide them
To have a secret compartment big enough to hide them but leave the truck looking as if it were not modified, you'd need a big truck. Might be easier to track ownership of the big ones than the smaller ones, although the Syrian DMV is probably not very organized.

Qahwaji Confirms Discovery of Terrorist Cell 'Aimed at Creating Strife in Lebanon'
[An Nahar] Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji declared on Wednesday "war against terrorism" that will not stop before any intimidation or kaboom, reported Voice of Leb radio (93.3).

He confirmed during a ceremony to commemorate retired officers "the discovery of a terrorist cell in Leb aimed at creating strife and carrying out attacks in the country."

The security forces, in cooperation with political authorities, are exerting efforts to apprehend the members of the cell, he stated.

The attacks they were planning could target any region in Leb regardless of its sectarian identity, the army commander warned.

"The war on terror is an international and regional one that is taking place in coordination with friendly intelligence agencies," remarked Qahwaji.

"The situation in Leb is very dangerous and it requires exceptional internal efforts to confront it," he stressed.

On Monday, the General Directorate of General Security circulated the pictures of two suspects accused of forming a "terrorist network" that was allegedly plotting to detonate the car bomb that was discovered Saturday in Naameh.

"Lebanese national T. B. T. and the Paleostinians A. H. S., aka Abu Youssef, and his brother Kh. H. S. are being held at the directorate on charges of forming a terrorist network, conducting acts of sabotage in the country, and plotting to stage a kaboom through the seized car," it added.

The directorate said the rest of the network's members are on the run, identifying two of them as "Lebanese national Mohammed Qassem al-Ahmed, born in Beirut in 1983 and a resident of Haret al-Naameh, and Lebanese national Saeed Mohammed Bahri, born in Beirut in 1985 and a resident of Dawhat Aramoun."

Israeli Troops Deploy, Stage Military Parade by the Border al-Wazzani Region
[An Nahar] An Israeli force on Wednesday deployed and staged a military parade near al-Wazzani border region, provoking the national army to increase its security alert.

"Around 22 troops deployed on the outskirts of the eastern Wazzani region near the barbed wire," the NNA detailed.

It noted: "The troops were protected by two Merkava tanks."

The same source, denied however, that Israeli soldiers have crossed the Blue Line.

"The soldiers staged a military parade in the region that lasted for three hours as one of the two tanks advanced towards the border village of Ghajar."

The NNA said the Israeli border activities provoked the Lebanese army to increase its security alert in their positions in al-Wazzani.

"The army forces monitored the Israeli soldiers' movements while the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Interim Force in Leb troops roamed the streets in the area."

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter wished he had a cup of coffee. Even instant would do...
Israeli military aircraft flew at a medium altitude over the southern Nabatiyehm province, Marjeyoun, Khyam and Iqlim al-Tuffah, the same source said.

Wednesday's border events come one week after Hizbullah chief His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
claimed the Labbouneh blast earlier in August in which four Israeli soldiers were maimed.

Nasrallah explained that explosives were already planted in the southern region, as the party had a prior knowledge of the Israeli trespassing.

He vowed to face any further border violations by the Jewish state.

The Lebanese army had said that a group of Israeli soldiers crossed the border into the southern area of Labbouneh near Naqoura and were maimed in an kaboom which reports have said was caused by a landmine.

The communique said the Israeli troops reached as far as 400 meters inside Leb.
