Parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman killed in Lashkargah explosion
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] An kaboom destroyed the office of a parliamentary candidate in Lashargah city, the bustling provincial capital of southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province.

The incident has taken place in the office of Abdul Jabar Qahraman and as a result a number of people have been killed or maimed.

A police source confirms that the parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman has lost his life in the kaboom which was triggered by an bomb planted in his office.

Provincial governor’s front man Omar Zwak had earlier said at least eight people have sustained injuries in the kaboom, including parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman.

This comes as parliamentary candidate Saleh Mohammad had earlier lost his life in a suicide kaboom.
An Nahar adds:
A bomb placed under a sofa killed an Afghan election candidate on Wednesday, officials said, as deadly violence escalates ahead of the October 20 parliamentary ballot.

The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
quickly grabbed credit for the attack, which takes the number of candidates killed so far during the campaign season to at least 10.

Jabar Qahraman had been meeting with supporters in his campaign office in the southern province of Helmand -- a Taliban stronghold -- when the attack happened, provincial governor front man Omar Zhwak told AFP.

Another seven people were maimed in the blast in the quiet provincial capital Lashkar Gah.

The bomb had been hidden under Qahraman's sofa, Zhwak said.

"We have tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
several people in connection with the blast," he added.

Provincial police front man Salam Afghan confirmed the kaboom had killed one person and maimed at least two.

Most of the 10 candidates who have died in the lead-up to the election were murdered in assassinations.

Qahraman was the second candidate killed in Lashkar Gah this month, after Saleh Mohammad Asikzai was among eight people killed in a suicide kaboom last week.

That incident came a day after the Taliban warned candidates to withdraw from the parliamentary election, which the group has vowed to attack.

Poll-related violence has increased ahead of the long-delayed vote, with hundreds of people killed or maimed in attacks across the country.

Qahraman, a former army general under the Communist regime in the 1980s, had long been in the Taliban's crosshairs.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
sent Qahraman, a sitting MP, to Helmand as his special envoy in 2016 to help defeat the krazed killer group. Qahraman later resigned.

Preparations for the ballot have been a shambles and with days to go, organisers are still struggling to distribute voting materials to more than 5,000 polling centres.

The election for parliament's lower house is seen as a dry run for the presidential vote scheduled for April and organisers have said it would not be delayed any further.

It also is seen as a key milestone ahead of a UN meeting in Geneva in November, where Afghanistan will be under pressure to show progress on "democratic processes".

Almost nine million people have registered to vote, but observers expect far fewer to turn out due to the threat of krazed killer attacks and expectations of widespread fraud.

More than 50,000 members of Afghanistan's already overstretched security forces are being deployed to protect polling centres on election day.

Britain
Suspicious package found near British parliament
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Police on Wednesday carried out a controlled kaboom on a suspicious package found in central London near the British parliament.

Officers were called to the gardens next to the River Thames during the afternoon and emergency services were at the scene, a police front man said.

An AFP photographer on the spot saw a bomb disposal robot being deployed in the area and a controlled kaboom was heard.

A building where many MPs have their offices was also cordoned off along with Victoria Embankment which leads to parliament.

The area was targeted in a terror attack last year when Khalid Masood, mowed down and killed five pedestrians before fatally stabbing a police officer outside the parliament building.

A man who crashed his car into the security barriers outside parliament in August is also suspected of attempting an attack.

“We’ve just been told it’s all been stood down — non-suspicious,” he tells AFP.

Suspect in Crimean college attack shot himself
[Al Ahram] The suspect in an attack on a college in the Crimean city of Kerch shot himself and his body has been found inside the college, the TASS news agency cited Russia's National Anti-terrorism Committee as saying on Wednesday. The attack, in which 18 people were killed, was carried out by a 22-year-old male student of the college, Sergei Aksyonov, Crimea's Russian-backed head, was quoted as saying earlier on Wednesday by the Interfax news agency.

Crimean college shooting: what we know so far

[PULSE.NG] A teenage gunman rubbed out at least 19 people and injured dozens before killing himself at a technical college where he was a student in Russian-annexed Crimea on Wednesday.

Here is what we know so far about the shooting.

A 'US STYLE' SHOOTING
Russian authorities initially put out conflicting versions of what happened at the college in Kerch, a city in the Crimea peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014.

The attack was first reported as an kaboom, with authorities saying an "unidentified bomb" had gone off and classifying the incident as an act of terror.

A few hours later Russia's Investigative Committee said the victims were killed by gunshots.

"A shooting took place after the kaboom. The gunman had a hunting gun," Crimean official Igor Mikhailichenko said.

The attack was then reclassified as a murder.

"This is not a terrorist act. It's a mass killing committed by one scumbag," Crimean leader Sergei Aksyonov said on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
TWO BOMBS AND A GUN
During the course of the day Sherlocks said they found two bombs: one in the college canteen and another in the personal belongings of Roslyakov, whose body was discovered in the library.

According to the authorities, the bomb in the canteen was "filled with metal objects" and caused substantial damage to the building's first floor.

CCTV images showed a man entering the school -- "holding a gun", Sherlocks said. They added that Roslyakov's body had gunshot wounds.

According to a source cited by the RIA Novosti state news agency, Roslyakov had legally acquired a gun licence and passed the necessary psychological tests to do so.

UNKNOWN MOTIVES
According to authorities, Vladislav Roslyakov was 18 years-old and a fourth year student in Kerch college.

His motives for the attack are still unknown. According to Aksyonov, he did not previously show signs of aggression.

A photograph published on Russian websites appeared to show the body of a young man lying in a pool of blood, resembling the man in the CCTV footage.

Images circulating on social media allegedly show Roslyakov wearing a similar T-shirt to Eric Harris, one of the two killers responsible for the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in the US.

Authorities said they are investigating whether Roslyakov had accomplices or whether he was acting "under the influence" of another person or group.

Fighting in Srinagar leaves 3 combatants, civilian dead
[DAWN] Anti-India protests and festivities erupted in the main city in India-held Kashmire (IHK) on Wednesday after a gunbattle between gunnies and government forces killed at least two suspected Kashmiri fighters, a civilian and a counterinsurgency police official, residents and police said.

At least a dozen journalists covering the fighting were beaten by counterinsurgency coppers well after the fighting ended, media groups and news hounds said.

The gunbattle began early on Wednesday after troops cordoned off a neighborhood in Srinagar on a tip that some armed fighters were in a civilian home, police said. The exchange of gunfire lasted for about half an hour, police said, leaving two armed fighters, a son of the house owner and a police official dead.

Asif Nabi, another son of the house owner, said the shooting began shortly after Indian troops knocked on their door and took away his brother. Police said the man was killed in the fighting as he tried to escape along with the armed fighter, alleging he had provided logistic support to them.

The house owner suffered cardiac arrest during the raid and was hospitalised, residents and police said.

At least three soldiers were also injured in the fighting. No further information was immediately available.

Residents said they heard loud kabooms during the fighting and accused the troops of blasting at least two houses with explosives.

As news of the fighting spread, anti-India protests and festivities erupted in several places in downtown Srinagar. Demonstrators chanting slogans demanding an end to Indian rule tried to reach the site of the standoff and threw stones at police and paramilitary soldiers.

Indian forces fired tear gas and shotgun pellets to stop the protesters. There were no reports of injuries.

Deir Ezzor: Coalition sez Iran missiles missed ISIS, news service claims Coalition bombed Kurds, ISIS holding foreigners hostage

US Coalition says Iranian missile strike did no damage to ISIS in east Syria

[AlMasdar] (7:30 P.M.) – The large-scale missile strike conducted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against the Islamic State (ISIS) did little to no damage, the U.S. Coalition Spokesperson Colonel Sean Ryan stated on Tuesday, as reported by IHS Janes.

“The assessment that we have seen so far is that there were six missiles that landed,” Col Ryan told reporters yesterday.

“We didn’t see any … damage from those missiles at all. I know that they [the Iranians] claim [the missiles hit their targets] but from what we’ve seen there hasn’t been any damage,” he added.

The IRGC said the missile strikes did considerable damage to the Islamic State’s infrastructure in the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

They would add that their missiles managed to kill more than 40 Islamic State leaders near the border-city of Albukamal.

Claim: US Coalition accidentally bombs Kurdish forces in east Syria – RIA

[AlMasdar] (11:25 P.M.) – The U.S.-led Coalition accidentally bombed the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in eastern Syria on Wednesday.

Two U.S.-Coalition F-15 jets allegedly bombed the Syrian Democratic Forces in eastern Deir Ezzor, killing at least half dozen fighters in the process, the RIA News Agency reported this evening.

Citing a diplomatic source, the RIA report said that the accidentally bombing disrupted the Syrian Democratic Forces’ offensive against the Islamic State (ISIS).

The incident, which took place near the town of Hajin in the Syrian eastern Deir ez-Zor province, did not just disrupt the operation but also reportedly led to numerous defections in the ranks of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Even worse, the terrorists managed to seize some territories in the area, the source added.

A diplomatic source told RIA that the US’ “lack of coordination and professionalism” endangered the life of their own allies.

The U.S. Coalition and SDF have yet to comment on this allegation from the RIA News Agency.

Foreigners among the hostages of Daesh in eastern Syria

[AlMasdar] A military-diplomatic source said that there are foreign citizens among hostages who are kept by Daesh terrorists in Hajin area in Syria.

There are foreign citizens among hostages that kept in the city of Hajin,
... the latest ISIS headquarters in Syria after they lost Raqqa, Mayadin, Al-Qa'im, and Abu Kamal. Hajin is thought to be the current residence of ISIS Number 1 Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi...
more than 700 people, a military-diplomatic source reported.

Earlier, Rusian Military reported that the Daesh* terror group attacked a refugee camp in Syria’s town of Al-Bahra on October 13, capturing 130 families and transporting them to Hajin, which is located in Deir ez-Zor province.

Lt. Gen. Vladimir Savchenko stressed that the abducted civilians were de-facto taken hostage and could be used by terrorists as a “human shield” to protect the militants from the possible attack by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) advancing towards the last Daesh-occupied areas on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria also said that passive conduct by the US-led coalition’s allies allowed militants to gain control over 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) of Syrian territory along the eastern bank of the Euphrates.

Idlib: big turban permanently unwound, Syrian army and air force prep for action

High ranking jihadist commander assassinated in northwest Syria

[AlMasdar] (11:00 A.M.) – A high ranking jihadist commander was assassinated in northwestern Syria, today, after his struck a roadside bomb in the Idlib province.

According to pro-opposition activists inside the Idlib Governorate, the military commander of Tanzim Hurras al-Deen “Abu Zubeir” was killed on Wednesday when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb that was planted by unknown assailants near the Hama province.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, opposition activists have taken to social media to blame the Syrian Arab Army and Russian military for the assassination.

Tanzim Hurras Al-Deen was one of the jihadist factions that rejected the Idlib agreement and called on other groups to attack the Syrian Arab Army and Russian military in northwest Syria.

Tanzim Hurras Al-Deen is also one of the largest foreign jihadist groups that is currently operating in northwest Syria.

Tiger Forces begin military drills in east Idlib as buffer zone agreement hangs in the balance (video)

[AlMasdar] (12:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops in northwest Syria have been placed on high alert, as the buffer zone agreement hangs in the balance.

Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army has begun military drills and training exercises in the eastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate this week.

The military drills were overseen by the prominent commander of the Tiger Forces, Major General Suheil Al-Hassan, who made his first appearance in the Idlib province this month.

As shown in the video below, the Tiger Forces were training in a wide-open area close to the front-lines; it is very likely near the Abu Dhuhour Military Airport:
Video can be seen at the link.
With the jihadist rebels refusing to leave the buffer zone, the Syrian Arab Army has begun mobilizing their troops in northern Hama and southern Idlib for a potential military operation against the opposition forces.

While the 4th Division has been redeployed to southern Syria to help with the Islamic State offensive, the Tiger Forces and Liwaa Al-Quds have remained near the Idlib front in case the jihadist rebels refuse to leave the buffer zone.

As of now, no military operation is planned in northwest Syria; however, this could change in the next week if Turkey does not convince the jihadist rebels to withdraw from the buffer zone.

Syrian Air Force begins maneuvers along Idlib buffer zone (video)

[AlMasdar] (1:45 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) began their maneuvers along the Idlib buffer zone, yesterday, the official media wing of the Tiger Forces reported.

The Tiger Forces released a video that showed an attack chopper moving across what they claimed was the Idlib provincial border.

The chopper could be seen flying over the area, marking the first time since the Sochi agreement was put in place that the Syrian Air Force has been active over near the jihadist front-lines.

While no airstrikes have been launched, the Syrian Air Force’s maneuvers are likely being conducted for training purposes and to increase the pressure on the jihadist fighters that have refused to leave the Idlib buffer zone.

Both Russia and Turkey are currently in talks about the situation around the Idlib buffer zone; they have both stated that the deal is still on, but that it is taking longer than needed to implement.

A source in nearby Mhardeh told Al-Masdar that the Syrian Army is on high alert and will remain at the front-lines until the situation is clarified.

Syrian Army placed on high alert as jihadists remain inside buffer zone

[AlMasdar] (1:25 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has been placed on high alert across the Idlib buffer zone after the jihadist rebels refused to withdraw from the designated de-escalation areas.

According to a military source in the city of Mhardeh, many units from the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF) have been ordered to the front-lines and told to remain on high alert.

The military source said that the Syrian Arab Army has been observing the jihadist movements over the last 24 hours and targeting any militant that attempts to infiltrate their positions across the Hama-Idlib axis.

Last night, Syrian Army snipers eliminated two members of the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front (NLF) that were spotted trying to move towards the military’s lines.

The Syrian Army snipers reportedly used their thermal rifles to kill the two rebels that were likely attempting to plant bombs along the government roads near the Idlib buffer zone.

The jihadist rebels and their allies often conduct late night operations where they slip behind the government’s lines and plant IEDs and mines along these roads; these roadside bombs can kill up to a dozen soldiers at a time, especially if it is a transport vehicle.

Syrian Army snipers wreak havoc on Turkish-backed rebels in northwest Hama
[AlMasdar] Opposition activists reported on Wednesday morning that two of their fighters were killed by Syrian Arab Army snipers last night.

On Tuesday night, the Syrian Arab Army snipers in western Hama killed two fighters from the Ottoman Turkish-backed National Liberation Front near the Beit Ras Bridge.

The Syrian Army soldiers used thermal sniper rifles near the bridge, indicating that they had received new weapons.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has received new sniper rifles from the Russian Federation that have now been put to use near the Idlib buffer zone.

Since the jihadist rebels have refused to leave the designated buffer zone in the Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, and Latakia provinces, the Syrian Arab Army has moved more troops towards the front-lines in anticipation of a potential battle with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
and the NLF.

While the Russian and Ottoman Turkish forces work to force out the jihadist rebels from this buffer zone, the Syrian Arab Army will mobilize more troops to this front in case the opposition fighters don’t leave.
