In Court Hearing, Planned Parenthood Employee Admits To Trafficking In Baby Body Parts
[Federalist] Day one of the preliminary hearing for pro-life activist David Daleiden kicked off Tuesday morning at the San Francisco Superior Court with testimony from an abortion technician, a third-trimester abortionist, and a vice president of the National Abortion Federation, who testified she doesn’t know what a human tissue procurement company is or does.

NAF Vice President of External Affairs Melissa Fowler also testified she recognized StemExpress‐a human tissue procurement lab exposed in Daleiden’s undercover videos that is now under federal investigation‐as a repeat vendor of her for-profit organization. NAF is a third-party abortion trade group.

The nine-day hearing is the first time Planned Parenthood leaders and affiliates have publicly gathered and testified in court since Daleiden’s Center for Medical Progress published 11 undercover videos featuring Planned Parenthood leaders discussing‐and in some videos displaying‐the harvesting and selling of aborted fetal organs and tissues.

Daleiden and his colleague Sandra Merritt face 14 criminal felony counts of eavesdropping and one count of conspiracy. The case marks the first time charges of eavesdropping have ever been made in California. During this hearing the judge will determine if there is probable cause Daleiden and Merritt committed a crime, and if so, will schedule a date for trial. Separately, the hearing for the civil case against Daleiden and Merritt will be held Sept. 30.

Bystander hurls milk at NYPD cop on scene of Bronx fire
[NYPOST] A coward hurled an open half-gallon of milk at a Bronx cop, covering him in the liquid, in the latest act of disrespect against a member of the force, according to cops and a video that surfaced Thursday.

"They got milked on!" a bystander can be heard cheering on cellphone video of the incident, which was posted on Instagram with a caption that read "F‐ the [police emoji]."

The assault comes just weeks after the city’s now-viral water bucket attacks on New York’s Finest.

Several videos emerged over the summer of people across the Big Apple setting upon cops with buckets and bottles of water ‐ resulting in charges for several individuals. In every incident, the officers were simply doing their jobs.

The Police Benevolent Association blamed city leaders for the brazen acts ‐ saying they have created a "cop-hating" environment Thursday.

"It is becoming impossible for coppers to do our job, even in emergency situations," PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said in a statement.

"At a fire scene, our role is to clear the area so that firefighters can contain the fire and prevent loss of life. This crowd didn’t care: They wanted to fight the cops who were there to help."

Homicide suspect accidentally released from Nashville jail is back in custody
[TENNESSEAN] A first-degree murder suspect accidentally released from the Davidson County Jail last week due to a holy manal error was back in jug on Wednesday.

Local and state authorities had been looking for 26-year-old Roberto Josue Viera-Aybar, who was mistakenly released on Friday, Davidson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Karla West said.

Metro police tweeted Viera-Aybar was in jug after he made arrangements through his attorney to surrender himself to a South Precinct officer in the 500 block of Piccadilly Row Wednesday morning.

Just after noon, West said, he was rebooked into the jail's Hill Detention Center located downtown on 2nd Avenue North.

A Soldier Died of Natural Causes in Kosovo. He Was a Loving Father -- And Ray Charles' Grandson
[Mil.com] Staff Sgt. Conrad Robinson followed one of his grandfathers into the Army, but what he shared with few colleagues before he died was that his other one was "the Genius" of soul music, Ray Charles.

Robinson, 36, died last year on a deployment to Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, just days before Memorial Day.

His death left loved ones back home stunned, confused and in his wife's case, questioning whether his health conditions should have kept him from deploying in the first place.

An autopsy sent to Army investigators late last year revealed that he had died from a heart condition, a report Stars and Stripes recently obtained from the Army's Criminal Investigation Command shows.

Comrade Robert titzup
Burn in hell, asshole
[BBC] Robert Mugabe 'ate a zoo' during his lavish 91st birthday party, unleashed death squads to murder his enemies and forced thousands of his people to starve.

One of the most ruthless tyrants of modern times was both condemned and praised after he died aged 95 in a Singapore hospital on Friday.

He was regarded as a liberation hero when he became Zimbabwe's leader following the end of white colonial rule in 1980, but he evolved into a villain through a reign of terror lasting almost four decades.

His legacy is that of an oppressive dictator known for corruption, human rights abuses and brutal and outrageous exploits, including dining on a baby elephant at his extravagant birthday party in 2015.

#3  Having governed itself since 1923, having supported the UK and the West with valuable manpower in three wars, and acting on stated approvals of the British Government, the Rhodesian cabinet declared a Unilateral Declaration of Indenpendence (UDI) from the United Kingdom on 11 November 1965. The Rhodesian government then established a new constitution (modeled after the American Constitution). Harold Wilson, the British Prime Minister, declared the UDI illegal and an act of rebellion on 12 November. The United Nations Security Council declared the UDI illegal on 19 November, calling on Britain to end the rebellion.

All of this setting the stage for the Perfidious Albion regime change, the ousting of President Ian Smith, the election of Mugabe, and the present day disaster known as Zimbabwe.

Wilson now has a new Canasta partner in hell.

#4  The original plan was to descend to 18km off the surface, adjust for momentum and land.

They revised the plan to include orbiting around the moon at a height under 100 km, to make system checks or something. The lander had to be reconfigured and a fifth liquid engine (7kg) added plus the software changes. They made these additions in june last year, so pretty late in the project. I think they just got ahead of themselves a little.

There's another one already in the works, this time with Japan.

Air Force A-10 engages illegals accidentally fires off rocket in Arizona
[Business Insider] A US Air Force A-10C Thunderbolt II accidentally fired off a rocket outside of the designated firing range in Arizona on Thursday.

The attack aircraft, assigned to the 354th Fighter Squadron from the 355th Wing, "unintentionally" released an M-156 rocket while on a training mission, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base said in a statement.

The M-156, according to CBS News, is a white phosphorous projectile used to mark targets. The rocket landed in the Jackal Military Operations Area, located about 60 miles northeast of Tucson, Arizona.

The Air Force says that no injuries, damages, or fires have been reported.

Swedish Scientist Proposes Cannibalism to Fight Climate Change
[Breitbart] Swedish behavioural scientist Dr. Creutzfeldt Jakob Magnus Söderlund has suggested that eating other people after they die could be a means of combatting climate change.

The scientist mentioned the possibility of cannibalism during a broadcast on Swedish television channel TV4 this week about a fair in Stockholm regarding "food of the future".

Söderlund is set to hold seminars at the event, entitled "Gastro Summit ‐ about the future of food" where he intends to discuss the possibility of eating people in the name of cutting down greenhouse emissions.

According to his research, the main problem with the idea is the widespread taboo of eating human flesh and said that conservative attitudes could make it hard to convince Swedes at large to take up the practice of cannibalism.

The sick cannibal said, "I cut him up, put him in a pot of water with vegetables, herbs, spices, salt, and pepper". The witch doctor then asked him to describe the man. He said, "he was bald on top, wearing a robe down to his ankles with a nelt tied around the middle and sandals". The witch doctor said, "There's your problem. You ate a Friar instead of a boiler".

Bolivia has lost 1.7 million hectares to fire: government
[DAWN] Wildfires raging in Bolivia's forests and grasslands since May have destroyed 1.7 million hectares (4.2 million acres), officials said Wednesday, amid an $11 million effort by the government to contain them.

Environmentalists blame laws enacted under leftist President Evo Morales, who has encouraged the burning of forest and pasture land to expand agricultural production, while the government attributes the blazes to dry weather and winds.

"Of the fires that have occurred, 41 percent are in protected areas and 30 percent are in forests," Cinthia Asin, environmental minister for the eastern region of Santa Cruz told the press, updating the amount of land burned to 1.7 million hectares.

Santa Cruz is the hardest hit of Bolivia's departments since the fires began in May and intensified in late August.

Much to environmentalists' chagrin, Bolivia's government recently authorized farmers to burn 20 hectares (almost 50 acres) instead of the usual five hectares (12 acres) -- which is believed to have contributed to thousands of wildfires.

Asin said that over the first days of September, 751 new fires blazed, mostly in forested areas, leading Santa Cruz officials to believe that humans had started the conflagrations to clear farmland.

Major League Soccer club bans 'controversial' Betsy Ross flag at games
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake has banned people from waving the Betsy Ross flag at games, claiming that the Colonial-era flag design has been “adopted as a symbol for hate groups” and doesn’t fit with the team’s mission of inclusiveness.

The controversy started last month after season-ticket-holders Randolf and Diana Scott started bringing their giant Betsy Ross flag to games at Rio Tinto Stadium, which “ignited a firestorm” against the couple on social media, the local Fox News affiliate reported.

Last weekend, stadium staff asked the couple to put the flag away.

“They kept telling us if he wasn’t going to take it down, we were going to be rejected from the game,” Ms. Scott told the news station.

“He asked me — he’s like, ‘So what’s the purpose of the flag?’” Mr. Scott recalled. “I was like, ‘Well, ‘cause, we love America.’”

Walmart Partially Clarifies Statement on Ending Certain Ammunition Sales
[FreeBeacon] Walmart clarified its new policy on ammunition sales a day after its CEO announced the retailer would stop selling certain ammunition but didn't specify exactly which ammunition.

The new policy was announced in response to the horrific attack on one of Walmart's El Paso stores. Walmart senior director of communications Delia Garcia described the event as the "bottom line," and said Walmart would only sell ammunition capable of being used in the remaining firearms they sell.

"Our assortment will remain focused on the needs of hunting and sport shooting enthusiasts," Garcia told the Washington Free Beacon. "It will include rifles used for deer hunting and shotguns, much of the ammunition they require, as well as hunting and sporting accessories and apparel. In other words, if we sell the firearm, we will sell the ammunition for it unless that ammunition, such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large-capacity magazines on military-style weapons, and also the .300 Blackout, 7.62×39 and .224 Valkyrie which can also be used in military-style rifles."
Aka, scary looking rifles which operate exactly the same as hunting rifles
Garcia's statement came in response to questions about yesterday's confused press release from Walmart CEO Doug McMillon. In the release, McMillon said the chain would no longer sell "short-barrel rifle ammunition" but would continue to sell ammunition for "long barrel deer rifles and shotguns," despite the fact that barrel length has no bearing on what kind of ammunition a rifle uses. McMillon further said the company wouldn't sell .223 and 5.56 caliber ammunition because it could "be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons," despite the fact that every caliber ammunition can be loaded into magazines of all different sizes.

McMillon did not explain what Walmart considers a "large capacity clip" or "military-style weapons." Garcia did not answer follow up questions about how Walmart defines those terms and whether it had decided to stop selling 12-gauge shotgun ammunition or larger caliber ammunition like 7.62x51mm because of their use by the military.

When asked why the retailer had decided to stop selling handgun ammunition, Garcia said it was connected to the company's decision to end handgun sales in Alaska‐the only state where they had sold them.

"We don't sell handguns and we will no longer sell ammunition for them," she said.
I bought ammo at Wal-Mart as it was cheap and easy to get. No more. Fuck woke Wal-Mart.

Walgreens Joins Kroger, Walmart, Bans Open Carry in Stores
[Breitbart] On Thursday, Walgreens joined Kroger and Walmart in banning open carry in their stores.

Walgreens posted a short statement on the issue, which says, "We are joining other retailers in asking our customers to no longer openly carry firearms into our stores other than authorized law enforcement officials."

The announcement comes two days after Kroger and Walmart both banned open carry in their stores.

Kroger did so while also calling on Congress to pass more gun control, and Walmart did so while also asking the White House to secure more gun control.

Walmart also announced they will no longer sell ammunition for AR-15s and AK-47s, and they will discontinue handgun sales in Alaska.

South Africa acknowledges 'Afrophobia' partly to blame for violence against foreigners
[DAWN] South Africa’s government acknowledged on Thursday that prejudice was partly to blame for deadly rioting that has targeted foreign businesses, as those attacks and reprisals overshadowed a continental economic conference for a second day.

President Cyril Ramaphosa had hoped the World Economic Forum (WEF) conference in Cape Town would serve as a shop window for his efforts to revive South Africa’s ailing economy and boost intra-African trade.

But the backdrop of violence has dominated proceedings, above all exposing dormant tensions between the host country and Nigeria, the continent’s two biggest economies.

At least five Africans have been killed this week in attacks on foreigners in South Africa. On Wednesday local companies MTN, and Shoprite closed stores in Nigeria after retaliatory attacks, and threats of reprisals forced Pretoria to shut its embassy in Abuja, its foreign minister said.

Nigeria’s vice president boycotted the meeting on Wednesday over the rioting.

On Thursday Jim Ovia, chairman of Nigeria’s Zenith Bank and a co-chair of the whole event, also withdrew, citing the "hypersensitivity of the issues surrounding the lives and well-being of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa."

Britain
Boris Johnson on delaying Brexit: 'I'd rather be dead in a ditch'
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] British Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisted he'd "rather be dead in a ditch" than ask the European Union to delay Brexit again by granting an extension.

Johnson made the comments while speaking at an event for police recruits in West Yorkshire, which also signaled the unofficial start to his call for a general election to be held on Oct. 15.

A reporter directly asked him after the speech if he could promise not to delay Brexit.

"Yes I can. I’d rather be dead in a ditch," Johnson responded.

Johnson was then pressed if that meant he would rather resign than ask Brussels to delay Brexit, but he instead criticized members of Parliament for strong-arming him into an extension that would cost "a billion pounds a month" and achieve "absolutely nothing."

#1  Actually he can't, at least not without triggering a serious constitutional crisis.

Parliament has ordered him to seek an extension if no deal can be reached before October 17 (not likely). If he refuses to comply and the UK crashes out there will be hell to pay.

Boris won't get his election before November. He could still win it, but it seems a lot more uncertain.

Listening to his rambling speech during which a police officer fainted I'd say he's not up to the job.

#7  "On Wednesday afternoon, MPs passed a motion obliging the government to seek as many extensions as the EU wanted."

This is not correct. Just ONE extension. Boris will get his election, but only after he has sought this extension. This was an act of self defense to mitigate the damage caused by a five week prorogation of Parliament in such a critical time.

If the British still want Brexit (with the risk of a no deal) they will vote for Boris in November.

If they prefer to remain (or want a Brexit with a proper deal), they'll vote him out.

So this time nobody can claim she/he wasn't properly informed about the consequences.

All this talk of no leaving without an EUSSR deal is just a way to not leave.

#13  WTO deal you say?

The UK must produce its own schedule covering both services and each of the 5,000-plus product lines covered in the WTO agreement and get it agreed by all the 163 WTO states. There are no default terms Britain can crash out on. The UK has been blocked by WTO members from simply relying on the EU’s existing tariffs and tariff-free trade quotas.

Think about the sheer volume of domestic legislation that would need to be passed before being able to trade under WTO rules. The UK government cannot simply cut and paste the 120,000 EU statutes into UK law and then make changes to them gradually,

I don't think you have any idea what a no deal actually means: A very long recession in the UK.

#15  In order to trade under WTO Law, the UK will have to establish its own schedules, which have to be accepted by all WTO members. WTO rulings are uncertain

The UK could proclaim unilateral free trade. This could boost trade, but also destroy manufacturing in the UK.

Trading on WTO terms means the UK will no longer trade with the EU-27 on privileged terms. Therefore the same tariff will apply, no matter if a product is imported from New Zealand or Belgium.

The EU may impose non-tariff barriers such as anti-dumping, countervailing or safeguard measures.

Falling back on WTO Law means industries dependent on a highly integrated EU supply chain would be affected the most, e.g. the automotive industry. Damages would need to be mitigated by government subsidies, but WTO Law often prohibits those subsidies.

Under the GATS, the UK’s financial services sector would lose of a number of benefits it enjoys under EU Law, especially passporting rights resulting from the financial services single market. In contrast, WTO terms lead to significant limitations and regulatory requirements, which can be expanded at all times.

British aviation service sector, which is the third largest in the world, will also suffer if the UK becomes a third country. Licenses given to UK air carriers will become invalid and they will lose access to intra-EU air traffic rights. The UK could not fall back on bilateral air service agreements between individual EU Member States, as these were abolished during the extension of the EU Single Market.

The GATS does not contain regulations regarding air services, either. Consequently, both UK and EU 27/EEA air carriers will be unable to fly between the UK and EU-27 countries. Additionally, the UK will not be part of the EU’s open skies agreements, as concluded with the US. A no-deal Brexit would therefore not only affect the aviation service sector within the Single Market but also outside of it. UK air carriers will have no legal basis to fly to and from the concerned third countries. Also, EU-27 air carriers will not be able to fly between the UK and those countries. Well Heathrow and Gatwick suck anyway.

Sure, given enough time, these problems could all be resolved, but it could take many years. And since the UK market is small in comparison to the EU market, it is unlikely that the UK will strike conditions as beneficial as those negotiated by the EU.

#17  I posit that Boris' run for govt was never about delivering brexit. Brexit was a convenient sentiment latched onto because more than half the population was for it. May was already burning down, and somebody had to step in. Better for a 'die hard Brexiteer', a Trump wannabe step in. It doesn't matter one bit. The theater is only to make the voter believe it's a democracy.

If a politician in opposition knows the majority of a people want something - no matter how impossible or impractical it is to deliver, you can be pretty sure it's going to be top of the manifesto and he'll have a plan for it.

I used to think the only man really shooting for brexit was Nigel Farage and Johnson, like other MPs across the floor was a pretender, riding a 'majoritarian charismatic' image for as far it will take him. Now, Farage too seems to be making overtures to Johnson so his Brexit party doesn't go the way of his UKIP.

This is what I think will happen in the coming days.

There will be a delay announced. People who voted for an exit from the Eww will be led to believe that all these honest men are parleying with Brussels to deliver brexit. The self-serving Irish will whine about No-Deal, and whoever Britain elects shall fuss about with 'finding the right deal'. And all this while status quo shall allow the real Eww beneficiaries to either readjust to coming administrative strictures, or re-invest their accumulated resources into new pipelines depending on how far they can take this farce together.

A continental enterprise of corruption and thuggery worth £ 100+ billion won't just pack up because some lowly citizens voted 'LEAVE' in a silly referendum.

I hope I'm proved wrong though, for the sake of the British people. For sure, if brexit is delivered, and is followed by a boost in the UK's prospects, if the foreseen famines and plagues never arrive, Italy shall be next. After that who knows ...

When British MPs defy public opinion, they often quote Edmund Burke’s 1774 speech to the voters of Bristol, in which he explained that he was their representative, not their delegate. The MPs rarely go on to mention that Bristol booted Burke out at the next election.

My guess is that something similar will happen when polling day comes. Even many remain voters balk at the idea of dragging the argument out any further. I’m going to stick my neck out here: Boris is going to win.

#22  It actually was a socialist idea not to put representatives in Parliament but "Räte" (Soviets) who had to do what the voters told them and could not vote according to their conscience.

Conscience? More like personal preference. Voters don't elect politicians so they can implement the politicians' personal preferences. They elect people who will do what voters want. In Europe, that's obviously a foreign concept - the unaccountable aristocrats are dead, long live the unaccountable aristocrats.

The other nations went along because the big powers were going to inject money into their economies and allow them a standard of living they otherwise wouldn't have.

Brexit is about the British realizing they don't really have that much guilt over their imperial past, and in fact they did a lot of good in addition to the bad.

Caribbean-Latin America
Kids Separated from Adults at Border are Stressed - Unexpectedly
[Ay-Pee, via Dallas Morning News]
Grab your tissues, folks.
Separated from his father at the U.S.-Mexico border last year, the little boy, about 7 or 8, was under the delusion that his dad had been killed. And he thought he was next.
I wonder where he received information leading to that conclusion?
Other children believed their parents had abandoned them. And some suffered physical symptoms because of their mental trauma, clinicians reported to investigators with a government watchdog.

"You get a lot of 'my chest hurts,' even though everything is fine" medically, a clinician told investigators. The children would describe emotional symptoms: "Every heartbeat hurts," or "I can't feel my heart."
Anybody ask them if they missed their Mommy and Daddy? Certainly, there were no leading questions asked!
Children separated during the Trump administration's follow the law "zero tolerance policy" last year, many already distressed in their home countries or by their journey, showed more fear, feelings of abandonment and post-traumatic stress symptoms than children who were not separated, according to a report Wednesday from the inspector general's office in the Department of Health and Human Services.
I suppose if you took Obama's kids away from their Mommy and Daddy, they'd be stressed, too. Even While Privilege kids, I bet.
Child psychiatrist Dr. Gilbert Kliman, who interviewed dozens of migrant children in shelters after zero-tolerance took effect, told the PBS series "Frontline" and The Associated Press that the kids can move on with their lives after reunifying with parents but may never get over it.
Not to be too cold, but kids are pretty resilient, no? Maybe some of them will get over it.
As children they have night terrors, separation anxiety, trouble concentrating. As they become adults, they face greater risks of mental and physical challenges, from depression to cancer.
Cancer? Really? Maybe they should've stayed home, instead of becoming pawns of the progressives.
Among the separated children, he foresees "an epidemic of physical, psychosomatic health problems that are costly to society as well as to the individual child grown up. I call it a vast, cruel experiment on the backs of children."
I suppose I'd be a Nazi if I suggested it was their parents’ experiment?
The AP obtained a copy of the report in advance of the official release, the first substantial accounting by a government agency on how family separation under the Federal Law Trump policy has affected the mental health of children. It was based on interviews with about 100 mental health clinicians who had regular interactions with children but did not directly address the quality of the care the children did receive.
I suppose that'll be the subject of another 'report'.
"Facilities reported that addressing the needs of separated children was particularly challenging, because these children exhibited more fear, feelings of abandonment and post-traumatic stress than children who were not separated," said Deputy Inspector General Ann Maxwell. "Separated children are also younger than the teenagers facilities were used to caring for."
If only Congress had authorized and funded more facilities!
A second report Wednesday by the watchdog found that thousands of childcare workers were given direct access to migrant children before completing required background and fingerprint checks.
If only Congress hadn't assumed they'd just walk across the border to live in sanctuary cities.
The report covers a period last year when facilities were overwhelmed by the policy under which at least 2,500 children were separated from their parents. They stayed behind in border custody while their parents were taken to federal court for criminal proceedings.
Overwhelmed, you say? But not a 'crisis', certainly not! Maybe it would've been better if the kiddies had gone to jail with Mommy and Daddy?
After a federal judge ordered the children reunified with their parents, guidance on how to do it kept changing and that led to further anxiety and distress, according to the report.
Any of those kids the ones purchased in Mexico to facilitate entry?
At a minimum, each child in government custody is to receive one counseling session per week, plus two group sessions to discuss issues.
That's the same level of care for at-risk kids in the inner cities, I suppose.
But the report found that mental health staff were overwhelmed. Usually there is one mental health clinician for 12 children, but during the period investigators studied, there were more than 25 children for one clinician.
Overwhelmed, again. The adult-kid ratio is close to that of teacher-student ratios in some schools.
Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said children deserve compassionate care.
Indeed. How should it compare to kids who happen to be citizens already, Senator?

There's more at the link, of course, but I've run out of tissues. I find it interesting that this front-page, above the fold 'news' was shared with a Hurricane Dorian headline, and another headline about the $90 million addition to the contract of a football running back. There's another message, there ... somewhere.

#3  What about kids who get raped multiple times by 'parents' from the caravans ? I don't see any conclusive investigation (or even curiosity) into whether they could be stressed because of anything other than being alone in restrictive conditions.

True, they are children (some of them) and don't know any better, or why they're being held. But that's all on the bastards carrying them across the borders.

Cancer... really ? Does Dr. Gilbert Kliman have an honorary degree in oncology apart from a one-year 'child psychiatry' diploma ?

Chinese firm creates first cloned kitten
[DAWN] Seven months after Huang Yu's pet cat Garlic died, the British shorthair was given a 10th life.

Born on July 21, the new Garlic was created by Chinese firm Sinogene, becoming the Beijing-based company's first successfully copied cat.

The pet-cloning outfit has made more than 40 pet dogs ‐ a procedure that costs a hefty 380,000 yuan ($53,000), while the price for a cat comes in at 250,000 yuan ($35,000).

Mi Jidong, the company's chief executive officer, told AFP that despite the high price tag, not all clients were high earners.

"In fact, a large proportion of customers are young people who have only graduated in the last few years," he said.

"Whatever the origin of pets, owners will see them as part of the family. Pet cloning meets the emotional needs of young generations."

Hong Kong leader says China "respects and supports" withdrawal of extradition bill
[DAWN] Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said on Thursday that China "understands, respects and supports" her government's move to formally withdraw an extradition bill, part of measures she hoped would help the city "move forward" from months of unrest.

In a presser, Lam was repeatedly questioned on why it took her so long to withdraw the bill that would have allowed extraditions to mainland China despite increasingly violent protests, but she skirted the questions.

"It is not exactly correct to describe this as a change of mind," she said.

She added that full withdrawal of the bill was a decision made by her government with Beijing's backing.

Economy
Mediocre Jobs Report from US Dept of Labor
[CNBC] Job growth continued at a tepid pace in August, with nonfarm payrolls increasing by just 130,000 thanks in large part to the temporary hiring of Census workers, the Labor Department reported Friday.

The increase fell short of Wall Street estimates for 150,000, while the unemployment rate stayed at 3.7%, as expected. An alternative measure of the jobless rate, which includes discouraged and underemployed workers, increased to 7.2% from 7% in July, due mainly to a 397,000 increase in those working part-time for economic reasons.

Wage growth remained solid, with average hourly earnings increasing by 0.4% for the month and 3.2% over the year; both numbers were one-tenth of a percentage point better than expected.
the article doesn't say so but I am quite sure that at this point one of the reasons for smaller employment growth is that there is a labor shortage in many parts of the country. Also the wage growth is fabulous given the tame inflation.

This is exactly right. When unemployment is down to 3.7%, there just aren't that many unemployed people looking for work.

As far as "mediocre" goes, I guess there are 130,000 people out there who don't think it's mediocre.

Art Laffer: Deal with China Could Boost Dow 10,000 Points
[Breitbart] Economist Arthur Laffer weighed in on the trade talks between the United States and China, touting what a deal between the two could do for the market.

Laffer agreed with President Donald Trump’s assertion that such a deal could boost the Dow Jones Industrial Average 10,000 points.

"I think he’s right about 10,000 on the Dow," Laffer told Fox Business Network "Mornings" host Maria Bartiromo on Thursday. "I mean, that’s a pull out of a hat, but frankly, it’s a huge thing for that because it starts having a dynamic consequence with the rest of the world ‐ Japan, South Korea, Europe, everywhere in the world will start doing deals."

Laffer went on to say that a deal would be like the Kennedy Round of tariff negotiations.

"We need China very much, Maria," he stated. "And they need us very much. I mean, it’s a perfect match of comparative advantage between the two countries."

"We are very sad to announce that after more than two months of searching, we have been unable to identify a new publisher for ThinkProgress, and we are left with no choice but to close ThinkProgress as an independent enterprise focused on original reporting," said Executive Director of the Center for American Progress Action Fund in a statement Friday.

ThinkProgress will stop operating Friday, according to the Daily Beast, which first reported the closure.

ThinkProgress was basically in the tank for Hillary in 16 and has made numerous digs at Sanders this year.

But ultimately, they have bad branding. Progressives don't want to think. They want to emote, virtue signal, vent, etc.

Trump gets to fill yet another vacancy on powerful Atlanta court
[AJC] President Donald Trump has yet another seat to fill on the federal appeals court in Atlanta, giving him the chance to appoint almost half of the court’s judges during his first term in office.

Judge Stanley Marcus became the latest member of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to tell Trump he will take senior status with a reduced caseload. Marcus said he will become a senior judge when his successor is sworn into office or on March 2, whichever comes first.
Current ideological make up of the 11th Circuit is 6R/6D. Two judges have announced they will take senior status - Tjoflat, appointed by Ford and Marcus appointed by Clinton. Once their replacements are confirmed the court will shift to 7R/5D making the 11th the second (or third depending on how you count) federal appeals court to shift to a majority of R appointees under Trump.

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

chief minister's spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill said on Thursday.

Earlier today, journalist Tarhub Asgher posted a video on her Twitter account, in which the ASI was seen yelling at an elderly lady and throwing away her walking stick. Asgher said the video was filmed outside the office of the city police officer in Lahore.

Gill had retweeted the video and said that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had taken notice of the matter and "directed Lahore police to take immediate action against the official".

"Such behaviour will not be tolerated at any cost," he said.

Two hours later, he announced on Twitter that the officer had been suspended and arrested for "behaving offensively with an elderly woman and misbehaving".

Punjab police have been under the spotlight for their suspected high-handedness and illegal methods. In the past week, three people ‐ two in Lahore and one in Rahim Yar Khan ‐ have died due to alleged torture by police officials.

2 Karachi policemen held for taking bribes, extortion money from citizens
[DAWN] Bahadurabad police on Thursday arrested two coppers on charges of receiving bribes and extorting money from citizens during snap checking in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
According to a police spokesperson, the two cops were arrested after Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon took notice of a video doing rounds on social media. The footage showed the two coppers allegedly taking a bribe from a citizen on Shaheed-e-Millat Road.

On directions of the city police chief, the two coppers were booked on bribery and extortion charges following their arrest.

Memon urged the citizens to lodge complaints on the WhatsApp number 0343-5142770 if they spot coppers riding cycle of violences, travelling in police mobiles or on foot indulging in misuse of powers or harassing citizens to extract bribes.

The city police chief warned the police force that if they are found negligent in performing their duty or found misusing their powers, not only departmental action but legal proceedings would also be initiated against them.

IWI's Masada 9mm Service Pistol Now On Sale In Stores and Online
[Guns America] The wait is now over. The Israeli Weapon Industries Masada pistol has shipped and is now available in stores and online (Shop for one on GunsAmerica now!). To celebrate its availability, IWI LAG Tactical and Vortex are giving away a complete Masada package.

The Masada is IWI’s newest and most modern-style polymer-framed, double-stack, striker-fired service pistol. Chambered for 9mm Luger, the Masada has a standard capacity of 17+1 rounds. Like a lot of today’s service pistols the Masada has a full-size grip with a 4.1-inch barrel and slide assembly.

It comes standard with a lot of features common to high-end service pistols including true ambidextrous controls, a slide machined for optics, a modular grip frame and factory 3-dot tritium night sights.

The Masada comes with two magazines and three grip housings in small, medium and large sizes. The cut is compatible with select Leupold, SIG Sauer, Trijicon and Vortex optics using the included adapter plates.

Other solid design notes include a very large beavertail, an enlarged and undercut trigger guard, forward and rear slide serrations and a full-length accessory rail. And the frame is relieved at the magwell to make it easy to strip magazines if necessary.

Like most striker-fired guns in production today, the Masada uses a passive trigger safety and has no manual safeties. The trigger pull is set to 6 pounds which is right there with some of today’s most popular service pistols.

One of the main selling points for the Masada is its price. The suggested retail price is $480 which is a lot less than guns with similar features. And magazines aren’t too expensive either at $29.

Mixed race leukaemia sufferer is searching the world against the odds for a stem cell donor
[BBC] A half-Nigerian, half-German woman is desperately searching the world for a stem-cell donor.

Astrid has leukaemia. However, due to her mixed race, her chances of finding a match are extremely unlikely.

That's because global stem cell registries do not reflect the world's diversity. The majority of registered donors are white. Only 3% of stem cell donors worldwide are mixed race.

So either black people are just selfish scavengers and not givers, or the majority of places with black people can't afford cell separator labs and storage/transportation. And that latter is because their politicians are selfish scavengers. Ooop !

Home Front: Culture Wars
Jeff Davis Highway renamed Richmond Highway
[Breitbart] Jefferson Davis Highway ‐ named for the Congressman, Senator, Secretary of War, and president of the Confederacy ‐ will now be called Richmond Highway on the portion of the road that runs through Arlington County, Virginia.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board made the decision and Democrat Attorney General Mark Herring finalized the deal, according to Fox 5 News.

Delegate Mark Levine, a Democrat representing Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax, told Fox 5 News constituents told him several years ago that the name "upset" them.

"Levine approached Herring with a legal argument that would allow counties to change state highway names without approval by the General Assembly," Fox 5 News reported.

"For my constituents, it’s a way to say Arlington today is not the Arlington of 100 years ago," Levine said. "This is a county that welcomes people, that welcomes our diverse population."

"It does not support the person who fought for slavery," said Levine.

#5  The U.D.C.'s decision to extend the highway to the Canadian border in the Northwest may seem odd. However, the link is not as odd as it may seem. On May 24, 1941, at the instigation of the U.D.C., a monument marking the northwestern terminus of the Jefferson Davis National Highway was unveiled near the Peace Arch at Blaine, Washington. The memorial was justified on the basis that Jefferson Davis, as U.S. Secretary of War before the Civil War, had obtained appropriations and directed surveys for wagon roads and railroads to the North Pacific Coast.
