Gangbangers beat Rikers Island correction officer to a pulp
[NYP] Gangbangers brutally beat a correction officer at Rikers Island on Saturday, knocking him out and breaking his neck, according to jail records obtained by The Post.
I hope and pray the poor man makes it. What a miserable way to make a living.
The officer was attacked by five inmates, all members of the Bloods, according to the records.

One of them walked up to the officer and punched him in the face, knocking him unconscious.

The other four piled on, kicking and punching the 39-year-old officer while he was down.

It was one of the worst prison attacks in years, said a jail source.

The officer was taken to a hospital, where his condition was listed as serious. Neither the officer’s name nor the hospital he’s at was disclosed.

Officials Investigating Possible Cyberattack At Pyeongchang Winter Olympics
Who oh who could it be?
Official organizers for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics are investigating an interference to certain virtual systems in what could have been a cyberattack, Reuters reported Saturday.

Local media in South Korea initially reported that the technical disruptions were caused by some sort of cyberattack, but Olympic Games spokesman Sung Baik-you said there is no such evidence of such activity, at least not yet.

"There were some issues that affected some of our non-critical systems last night for a few hours," said Sung, according to Reuters, before adding that authorities are working to figure out what exactly happened.

"Experts are watching to ensure and maintain any systems at expected service levels. We are currently investigating the cause of the issue. At this time we cannot confirm (a cyberattack)," he said.
"No, no! We just needed to reset the modem!"
People privy to the operations of the official opening ceremony, which was broadcasted Friday night in America, reportedly worried that a failure to launch drones could have been part of the for now-ambiguous system difficulties. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, were a big part of the showmanship of the ceremony, but most of the incredible, illuminative spectacles provided by the drones were only available for television viewers, not the in-stadium attendees like heads of state and athletes (e.g augmented reality).

The President's Military Parade Might Not Be in DC: Pentagon
[MIL.COM] The big parade to honor the military wanted by President Donald Trump might not come down Pennsylvania Ave. past the White House, the Pentagon said Thursday.

At a Pentagon press briefing, Dana White, the Defense Department's chief spokesperson, said that other options to Washington, D.C., would be under consideration for holding the parade that reportedly was inspired by Trump's admiration for the Bastille Day parade he attended in Paris last July.

"The president will decide," she said, once the Pentagon comes up with a plan. "We don't have a plan yet," she said, but the Army will take the lead in devising one.

"The president is looking for opportunities to honor our service members," White said. "The president is simply looking for options. The bottom line is we want to honor our service members."

At a White House briefing Wednesday, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis endorsed the parade but declined to discuss the costs.

"I think we're all aware in this country of the president's affection and respect for the military. We've been putting together some options. We'll send them up to the White House for decision," Mattis said.

No date for the parade has been set, but one option being considered is Nov. 11, which would be Veterans Day and also coincide with commemorations of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

The plan for a parade has drawn criticism from Democrats, and an informal poll conducted by Military Times showed overwhelming opposition to the idea.

As of Thursday afternoon, more than 51,000 readers had responded and 89 percent said "No, It's a waste of money and troops are too busy."

The other 11 percent responded "Yes, it's a great opportunity to show off U.S. military might," Military Times said.

On Wednesday, several Democratic senators sent a letter to Mattis questioning the potential costs of the parade and how it might impact the military in the midst of wars in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan and also facing threats from North Korea.

"At a time of war, with American service members serving in harm's way, such a parade seems to be inappropriate and wasteful," said the letter signed by Sen. Jack Reed, D-Rhode Island, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, Gary Peters, D-Michigan, and Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, said he supported a parade but cautioned against having a "Soviet-style" display of military might.

"I don't mind having a parade honoring the service and sacrifice of our military members," Graham told CNN. "I'm not looking for a Soviet-style hardware display. That's not who we are, it's kind of cheesy and I think it shows weakness, quite frankly."

I think it's a great idea which will both honor the military _and_ show the military is a good light - something which the media very seldom do anymore.

-Land of the Free
Lt. Gen Ion Mihai Pacepa: An Immigrant's Salute to Our Heroes
[PJ from a May 2014 article] "The cost of freedom is always high," President John F. Kennedy prophetically told the nation at the height of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. He paid with his own life to defend our freedom. Yes, the price of freedom is high -- 1,196,541 Americans have paid with their lives to defend our freedom in all our wars. Today, when our whole nation is paying tribute to them, I also want to express my particular gratitude to these heroes. Their sacrifice for America's freedom and for its capitalist system gave me hope, as it has made hope a key word in the vocabulary of millions of other men and women like me who have discovered in America the strength to overcome cynicism and despair. It was the hope that America would defeat the Soviet Empire that made that tyranny collapse.

There are millions of other Americans who, like me, started their lives from scratch for the privilege of living in this magnanimous land of freedom. We know that the United States is not a perfect country. But this imperfect America has almost single-handedly kept freedom and democracy alive in the world for the last hundred years. I call upon all my fellow immigrants to observe a minute of silence in the memory of those 1,196,541 Americans who paid with their lives to allow us to be free and to make America the leader of the world.

NKorea political princess heading home after whirlwind visit
[AP] GANGNEUNG, South Korea ‐ A North Korean delegation led by a political princess was set to head home Sunday night after a whirlwind three days in South Korea, where she sat among world leaders at the Olympics and tossed a diplomatic offer to the South aimed at ending seven decades of hostility.

Kim Yo Jong and the other North Korean officials were scheduled to depart for Pyongyang on leader Kim Jong Un's private jet, a day after they delivered his hopes for a summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in during a lunch at Seoul's presidential palace.

Their final schedule in South Korea was joining Moon at a Seoul concert of a visiting North Korean art troupe, led by the head of the immensely popular Moranbong band, whose young female members are hand-picked by Kim Jong Un.

Accepting North Korea's demand to transport more than 100 members of the art troupe by sea, South Korea treated the Mangyongbong-92 ferry as an exemption to the maritime sanctions it imposed on the North, a controversial move amid concerns that the North is trying to use the Olympics to poke holes in international sanctions.

South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon hosted the North Koreans for lunch Sunday.

Kim Yo Jong, 30, is an increasingly prominent figure in her brother's government and the first member of the North's ruling family to visit the South since the end of the 1950-53 Korean War. The North Korean delegation also included the country's 90-year-old head of state Kim Yong Nam.

In dispatching the highest level of government officials the North has ever sent to the South, Kim Jong Un revealed a sense of urgency to break out of deep diplomatic isolation in face of toughening sanctions over his nuclear program, analysts say.

The North Koreans went through a busy schedule in South Korea as the world watched their every move. They were whisked back and forth between capital Seoul and the Olympic towns of Pyeongchang and Gangneung.

They shared the VIP box with world leaders at the opening ceremony and joined Moon in cheering for the first ever inter-Korean Olympic team as they debuted in the women's ice hockey tournament. It ended in a crushing 8-0 loss to Switzerland.

The Goldman-Sachs Wing Of The White House (Fox News Included) Likely Wants Gen. John Kelly Gone
[Mercer] President Trump has no right to be "venting about Chief of Staff John Kelly," who is an excellent man. But I bet "Jarvanka" (the Jared-Ivanka organism), and their Goldman-Sachs wing of the White House, are urging that the president purge one of the last good men in his administration.

Once Kelly goes, of the old MAGA Guard, only Stephen Miller will remain. Then you’ll know the Trump Revolution is truly over.

The media, which has morphed into a Trump Scandal Watch, are baying for the general’s blood. The many fine things Gen. Kelly has done‐defend Robert E. Lee as a great American hero, condemn Frederica Wilson for her anti-Trump tackiness‐have riled the media.

They would like to think there is no political life after Kelly’s transgression.

Ditto Fox News. On grounds too stupid, weak and wobbly to dignify, a Fox News "writer" (Stephen L. Miller) is calling for the good general to go. It’s encouraging to read the antagonistic comments of the readers. Against Fox News’ neoconservative lefty, the commenters echo my opinion.

UPDATE (2/10): Another reason the left wants the irreplaceable Gen. Kelly replaced:

"John Kelly says some immigrants didn’t sign up under DACA because they were ’lazy.'"

Two-Thirds of Israelis Support Deportation of Illegal African Migrants
[Breitbart Israel] TEL AVIV ‐ The majority of Israelis support their government’s campaign to deport illegal African migrants to an unnamed third country, a new poll released Wednesday found.

Two-thirds of the public (65.9%) support the plan, the poll released by the Israel Democracy Institute and Tel Aviv University’s Peace Index showed. However there were large gaps between rightwing and leftwing support for the plan as well as between Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs. 69% of Israeli Jews back the deportation campaign compared with 50% of the country’s Arab population. Only 25% of people on the left support the plan while 78% of those on the right back it. 35% of those who define themselves as centrist are in favor.

Approximately half (49.8%) agreed that authorities should speed up the process of reviewing requests for asylum by migrants from Sudan and Eritrea, and allow those whose applications are approved to stay in Israel, while 43.2% were against that idea.

More than half (55.2%) disagreed with the argument that "Israel, as the state of the Jewish people, who, over the course of history, suffered from violence and persecution and sought asylum in different lands, should show more generosity toward other nations and allow the asylum-seekers to stay in Israel."

Second WH Staffer Accused Of Domestic Abuse Fires Back: It Was My Ex-Wife Who Abused Me
h/t Hot Air
Just to be clear, we’re talking here about David Sorensen, not Rob Porter. Sorensen is, or was, a speechwriter in Stephen Miller’s office. He quit yesterday when word got around that WaPo was planning a story based on his ex-wife’s tales of spousal abuse. Like Porter, Sorensen claims he’s innocent. Unlike Porter, he claims that he, not his ex, was the one getting knocked about. And he’s published a statement online, featuring photos and screenshots of texts, to support his story.
Incidentally, anybody heard anything from/about Roy Moore's accuses after the elections?

It is interesting that the domestic violence law was passed during the Clinton administration mostly as a way to deny people from buying guns.

'Hire the best and fire the worst': Trump proposes biggest civil service change in 40 years
h/t Instapundit
[USAToday] President Trump will seek to "hire the best and fire the worst" federal government employees under the most ambitious proposal to overhaul the civil service in 40 years, officials said.

The measures will be outlined in the budget plan that Trump will send to Congress Monday, said four Office of Management and Budget officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the budget hasn't been released.

..."While to some people those are code words, they’re very clear to us," said American Federation of Government Employees President J. David Cox, who represents about 700,000 workers for the federal government and District of Columbia. "Basically it wipes out due process rights for employees."

Another pillar of the proposal would reduce automatic pay increases and instead use that money for a performance bonus pool.

Under the current system, federal employees get a review every one to three years. Employees whose performance is "fully successful" ‐ as 99.7% are ‐ get a within-grade "step" increase in addition to annual cost-of-living increases.

Trump's plan would stretch out the amount of time it takes to go from step 1 to step 10 from 18 years to 27 years, saving $10 billion over the next decade, officials said. That money would then go to high-performing employees either as merit raises or one-time bonuses.

Federal employee unions fear the pay-per-performance plan would be used to reward loyalists and discriminate against women and minorities.

#1  Automatic pay raises & COL increases make no sense for public employees, particularly in an age where this very seldom happens to employees in the private sector. If they don't like the pay as currently offered, they are free to quit & seek employment elsewhere. Public unions should be outlawed.

African-American Olympian boycotts opening ceremonies because he wasn't chosen to carry flag

Lurid coin toss update.
[Wash Times] The honor of which American athlete would carry the American flag for Team USA at the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics came down to a coin flip today in Pyeongchang. And the athlete on the losing end of that flip is not pleased.

Speed skater Shani Davis decided to not participate in today’s ceremonies after he lost the flip to luger Erin Hamlin.

Davis took to Twitter and evoked African American history month in his commentary on the events.
I am an American and when I won the 1000m in 2010 I became the first American to 2-peat in that event. @TeamUSA dishonorably tossed a coin to decide its 2018 flag bearer. No problem. I can wait until 2022. #BlackHistoryMonth2018#PyeongChang2018pic.twitter.com/dsmTtNkhJs

‐ Shani Davis (@ShaniDavis) February 8, 2018

Hamlin, a woman, is white. According to AFP, US Olympic committee defends their method in selecting the flag-bearer:

Well in Davis' defense, there was that issue with the coin.

Europe
Afghan gets life term for killing Christian mother in southern Bavaria
[TheLocal.de] A German court in Traunstein on Friday handed a life term to an Afghan asylum seeker who stabbed to death a compatriot mother-of-four because she had converted to Christianity.

The 30-year-old, who was not named by authorities, murdered the woman in front of two of her children outside a supermarket in the southern city of Prien am Chiemsee last April. She was stabbed 16 times.
Oh brave, brave Lion of Islam, murdering a mother burdened by groceries and small children!
Prosecutors told the court in the town of Traunstein that the accused was furious because she had turned her back on the Islamic faith.

The 38-year-old woman had earlier asked the man if he wanted to convert too, a request that was "irreconcilable with his Moslem faith," prosecutors said during the trial.

The accused's lawyer had asked the judges to show leniency, saying his client had had a difficult life and was exposed to violence from a young age, according to DPA news agency.
Good news for the children whose mother was murdered in front of them: they’ve got an excuse for whatever they do to the colonists later.
The suspect apologised to the victim's family in his final remarks in court.
Sorry he was caught, at any rate.
In Germany, a life sentence means a convict can apply for parole after spending 15 years behind bars. But in this case the judges highlighted the "gravity" of the crime, meaning the accused is unlikely to be considered for early release, DPA reported.

Two of the woman's children, aged five and 11, watched as the man killed their mother. Her two other children are adults.

Passers-by tried to stop the attacker by hurling a shopping trolley at him.

After his arrest, the man claimed he had acted out of frustration about his looming deportation as a rejected asylum seeker.
Now he won’t have to go back for a while, and there’s the three hots and a cot thingy, all without any further effort in his part.
He was initially held in a psychiatric ward for about three months and then transferred to standard pre-trial detention.

He will likely be deported after serving his sentence.

The woman was from Afghanistan too. The family wouldn't need an excuse. They have direct experience with life under Sharia.

In liberated Afghanistan the victim would have been tried, convicted and sentenced to death for not only leaving Islam but proselytizing.

Erdogan said Saturday that the helicopter was participating in the Ottoman Turkish military offensive in northern Syria when it was shot down while flying over an area in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
's Hatay province.

He said Turkey would respond harshly to the attack and that the "perpetrators" would pay a "heavy price" for the downing that took place around noon local time and in the southern border of Hatay.

Later, Ottoman Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told the local media that two Ottoman Turkish servicemen had been killed in the incident. "At this stage, we can say that one out of two helicopters was downed. We have two deaders."

Ottoman Turkish military later said nine more soldiers were killed in separate incidents but did not give details. Another 11 soldiers were maimed in the bloodiest day in Ankara's offensive against the Kurdish militias in northern Syria.

For nearly a month, Turkey has been engaged in a massive military operation in northwestern Syria with an alleged aim of neutralizing a threat by Kurds from the city of Afrin and surrounding areas in the Syrian province of Aleppo.

In his televised statement, Erdogan did not blame the Kurds or any other party for the downing of the helicopter.

A Kurdish militia front man, identified as Mustafa Bali, grabbed credit for the attack, saying the helicopter was downed by fighters in Raju, northwestern Afrin.

Jaish-e-Mohammad targets sleeping families at Sunjuwan Army camp, kills two soldiers
[TimesofIndia] In a pre-dawn fidayeen attack on Saturday, a group of heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
bully boyz struck at an Army camp in Sunjuwan town on national highway 1A connecting Jammu to Srinagar, killing two soldiers and injuring nine others, including a Colonel and a girl child.

Three of the bully boyz were neutralised in the Army operation which is still on. Most of the camp residents in over 150 houses were evacuated to flush out other terrorists. Sources said choppers and drones were used to keep track of the movement of the terrorists. IAF para commandos were airlifted to Jammu from Udhampur and Sarsawa.

Intel sources said the attack on Army's residential complex bears the stamp of Jaish-e-Mohammad. It coincided with the fifth anniversary of the hanging of Afzal Guru, a convict in the 2001 Parliament attack by Jaish, on Friday. Soldiers and their families were sleeping when the bully boyz struck in the dark, firing indiscriminately.

The martyred Army officers have been identified as Havaldar Mohammad Ashraf Mir and JCO Madan Lal Choudhary. The JCO's daughter, Neha, is among the injured.

Defence spokesperson Col N N Joshi said the injured included five women and kiddies. Two of them are critical. "Due to presence of women and kiddies in the housing colony, the operations are being progressed cautiously to minimise casualties," the defence statement said. This is the second fidayeen attack on the camp. A dozen soldiers were killed when the same camp was attacked by bully boyz on June 28, 2003.

Dressed in combat fatigues, the bully boyz took strategic position in the housing area of the camp and engaged security forces in fierce gunbattle through the day on Saturday. A reinforcement of Army's Special Forces and SOG rushed to the camp and cordoned off the whole area amid heavy firing.

IGP Jammu Zone SD Singh Jamwal said around 4.50-4.55am, a group of bully boyz barged into the camp, just 8 km from the J&K legislative assembly building. He said the exact number of bully boyz is not ascertained yet. Sources said five to six bully boyz may have entered the camp through an open culvert. On noticing suspicious movement, the guard on duty opened fire, the IGP said. Following a brief exchange of fire, the bully boyz rushed to the nearby family quarters.

J&K parliamentary affairs minister Abdul Rehman Veeri informed the House that both the Army officers killed in the attack are from the state. Four of the injured, Col Rohit Solanki, Havaldar Abdul Hamid, Lance Naik Bahadur Singh and Neha, were shifted to Government Medical College here.

The camp is spread over many acres of land along the busy national highway. It is located adjacent to several residential colonies, shopping arcades, motor showrooms and private schools on the bypass. Following the terror attack, Jammu has been put on high alert while all educational institutions within half a kilometre radius of the camp were closed for the day. Col Joshi said the slain bully boyz were carrying AK-56 assault rifles and large amount of ammunition and hand grenades. Belongings of the slain bully boyz confirmed they were from Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Dawn adds:
Abdul Rehman Veeri told politicians in the area's legislative assembly that the shootout, which began early morning, continued into the afternoon on Saturday.

The camp is located on the outskirts of the city of Jammu. The area was cordoned off and schools closed. The Himalayan region of Kashmire is divided between India and Pakistain. Both claim the region in its entirety.

Britain
Two Daesh militants should never set foot in UK again: Defense chief
[PRESSTV] Britannia's Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson says two captured ISIS turbans from the United Kingdom should never be allowed to return to their country.

Williamson made the comments on Saturday in an interview with the Sun newspaper after Britannia reportedly stripped El Shafee Elsheikh and Alexanda Amon Kotey of their citizenship.

"I don't think they should ever set foot in this country again," Williamson told the newspaper. "They turned their back on Britannia, our values and everything we stand for ‐ they are the worst of the worst."

The two British citizens were members of a ISIS kidnapping cell dubbed "The Beatles" which was notorious for videotaping beheadings. They were involved in the killing of detained Western hostages.

The men were captured in January in eastern Syria by the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which are supported by the US.

The two captured men were the last two remaining "Beatles" members who were still on the lam. Mohammed Emwazi, known as "Jihadi John," was killed in 2015 in a dronezap by the US-led coalition claimed to be fighting against ISIS. Another "Beatles" member, Aine Davis, is being imprisoned in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The US State Department described Kotey, 34, and Elsheikh, 29, as executioners and jailers for ISIS.

Kotey "likely engaged in the group’s executions and exceptionally cruel torture methods, including electronic shock and waterboarding. Kotey has also acted as an ISIS [ISIS] recruiter and is responsible for recruiting several UK nationals to join the terrorist organization," the State Department said in a statement.

"Elsheikh was said to have earned a reputation for waterboarding, mock executions and crucifixions while serving as an ISIS [ISIS] jailer," the statement continued.

According to reports, Britannia is planning to send the two bully boyz to the notorious US military prison Guantanamo Bay or another prison outside of the United Kingdom, where it believes the rules of the Geneva Conventions do not apply.
The Daily Mail adds:
Kotey, a half-Ghanaian, half-Greek Cypriot nicknamed Ringo, and Elsheikh, who fled Sudan with his family aged five and was known as George, had been deprived of their UK passports on national security grounds after they travelled to Syria.

Between 2006 and 2015 at least 81 deprivations of citizenship orders were made including 36 because it was ’conducive to the public good’, but reports have put the number as high as 150 for those fighting with IS.

It means they are not allowed back into the UK. Security sources said UK imported muscle were increasingly having citizenship removed so they did not have to be dealt with in the UK courts if they are captured. Officials fear that if UK jihadis are sent back to Britannia much of the evidence could be inadmissible in the courts, for instance if they had been tortured and mistreated by local forces, and they would be set free on the streets.

A senior US official said Kotey and Elsheikh had provided valuable details about the remaining IS leadership and support structure.

Iranian UAV that entered Israeli airspace seems to be American stealth knock-off

[IsraelTimes] IAF's second-in-command says drone, which was reportedly similar to aircraft seized by Tehran in 2011, was advanced and based on Western technology. The design for the Saeqeh, which looks something like a miniaturized B-2 bomber, is largely based on an American RQ-170 Sentinel spy drone, one of which Iran claimed to have shot down in December 2011, when it broadcast footage of the recovered aircraft.

Israel caused serious harm to Syria’s air defenses, says IAF second-in-command

[IsraelTimes] The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war in Syria, said Israel targeted the edges of a military air base, called T-4, in the Homs desert near Palmyra, where Iranian and Hezbollah forces are based alongside Syrian troops. The Observatory said the raids resulted in casualties, but didn’t specify. It also said Israeli raids targeted areas in southwestern Damascus, bordering the southern provinces. This was followed by raids on Syrian government posts along the Damascus-Beirut road, close to the border between Syria and Lebanon.

Iran rejects 'ridiculous' Israeli claim on downing Iranian drone
“Pshaw! And fiddlesticks, too!”
[PRESSTV] Iran has rejected as "ridiculous" claims by the Israeli regime that it had intercepted an Iranian drone launched from Syria, stressing the Islamic Theocratic Republic's military advisory presence in the Arab country is at the request of Syria’s "constitutional and legitimate" government.

"Claims about the flight of an Iranian drone ... are too ridiculous to be addressed because the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran has advisory presence in Syria at the request of the country's legitimate and constitutional government," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday.

"The government and army of Syria as an independent country have a legitimate right to defend [the country's] territorial integrity and counter any type of foreign aggression," he added.
“How dare they aggress against us by defending themselves!” he added.

Riding high after IS defeat, Iranian axis tries its luck with Israel, US
[IsraelTimes] While Tehran and its allies hail start of a 'new era' with downing of Israeli jet, exacting response may cause them to think twice the next time.

Since Saturday morning, Syrian and Iranian authorities have busied themselves with reveling in the reported downing of an Israeli F-16 fighter jet by Syrian air defenses.

In Damascus, residents handed out candies to passersby. Social media users shared cartoons depicting an Israeli plane being struck by Syrian missiles, while in Damascus, Tehran and even Gazoo there were declarations of a "strategic change in the region" and a "new equation."

#1  ...I have read from a couple other sources that the Iranian plan was to get video of an Israeli military base or even Jerusalem itself. They have some anniversary of one sort or another coming up, and the idea was they were going to run this footage to show how invincible the HezIranians were. Didn't quite work, obviously.

The frantic celebrations over the loss of a single IAF bird don't surprise me, because I suspect they've been told that the IAF lost a LOT more and have been almost destroyed. They, like the Luftwaffe of seventy-eight years ago, will be so very unpleasantly surprised when 'the last fifty planes' keep coming at them.

(During the SCUD attacks on Israel during Desert Storm, the 'Palestinians' swore - and still do - that one SCUD took out two or more 747s on the ramp at Ben Gurion Airport filled with Soviet Jewish refugees. One SCUD actually landed IN 'Palestinian' territory, and that was explained as IAF or USAF - depending on who was telling the story - aircraft bombing them instead.)

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Rantburg Exclusive: Iran's Rouhani Supplies YPG W/Safir Jeeps w/AT gun 107mm
Iran is essentially now using the YPG as a proxy militia against Turkey. Word is Rouhani is also supplying the YPG with anti-Aircraft manpads.

The #YPG in #Afrin turns into an Iranian proxy militia to fight #Turkey & Syrian rebels.
After #Konkurs ATGM and 107 mm rockets, #Iran now also supplied #Safir jeeps w/AT gun 106 to the Kurdish militia.
And I would make an educated guess, saying also today's MANPADS was provided. pic.twitter.com/ayY0bvzYkd

#2  Okay it's now so surreal I want to know how much LSD was put into the MidEast water.

So in Afrin the US and Iran support the YPG in its fight with Turkey.

Near Raqqa the US needed to exterminate a Syrian armor brigade trying to attack the US expd HQ.
A big portion of the brigade is Russian mercs.

Near Israel a huge blow up between them, the Syrians and the Iranians.

In Iran Sadr quits supporting the Shite parties and supports the communist.

#19  We have the Iranians supporting the YPG who are the military arm and blood brother of the PKK who both want an independent Kurdistan which involves a big chunk of Iran and the Iranians are supporting them?

You support the faction least hostile to you. It's not "till death do us part" - it's "till the Turks are gone". From the Iranian standpoint, the Kurds are cannon fodder - better dead Kurds than dead Iranians and Syrians. The thinking, probably accurate, is that the Turks are only ostensibly in Syria to fight the Kurds. In reality, they want a piece of Syria.

Your confusion about back-stabbing and so on assumes that everything will go back to the way it was (i.e. a unitary Syria within UN-recognized borders) after the hostilities are over. In reality, new maps are being created, and the fighting is over which political entities and what populations will be in charge of what pieces of real estate when all of this is over. Possession is 9/10 of the law. And Turkey may be jostling for a piece of the pie.

We have spent probably hundreds of millions of dollars supporting the Kurds. But the Kurds have spent thousands of lives. Our money is easily replaceable. Those lives - usually the bravest and most dedicated fighters - not so much. And given the Kurds' situation - the very definition of in extremis - it's not surprising they would get help from whatever sources they can find.

Note that Washington spent a good part of his military career fighting the French. And promptly sought an alliance with the French once the Revolutionary War kicked off.

Muslim World League chief: People must accept religious, intellectual diversity
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Secretary-General of the Moslem World League, Mohammed bin Abdulkarim al-Issa, highlighted the need to abide by effective dialogue. He said that the world today complains about the lack of understanding of God’s will in religious, intellectual, cultural and civilizational diversity, as well as the lack of understanding of the importance of coexistence among each other, as a basic rule for peace and harmony among mankind.

This was part of al-Issa’a speech at the Alliance of Virtue for Common Good conference in Washington, which was attended by 400 religious, political, social, intellectual and governmental figures from around the world.

Issa pointed out that religious and intellectual conflict and the resultant extremism and counter-extremism are not solely the responsibility of those who are mentally kidnapped, as they are merely a herd controlled by wolves.

He considered that the religious texts as well as the constitutional and legal texts can be interpreted and manipulated and be strict in its indications, stressing that all violent actions undertaken under the name of religion is a result of the inaction and neglect of the wise religious men.

Issa explained that religions throughout history have suffered from those who study religious texts by heart without understanding or awareness, and then heads scientific and intellectual fields, which resulted in disaster for the religions and for themselves.

Moral, behavioral values
He stressed that it is important that religious and educational programs should be focused on establishing moral and behavioral values.

The conference ended with a number of recommendations and decisions which included establishing an institution to develop and activate the "Washington Declaration", launch a humanitarian campaign to feed one billion hungry people worldwide, and establish an international multi-religious council of prominent religious men to support mediation and reconciliation, and quick intervention to end war and civil strife.

Las Vegas shooter's autopsy gives no clues
[ReviewJournal] Autopsy records obtained Friday by the Review-Journal shed no new light on what might have contributed to Stephen Paddock’s motives for committing the Oct. 1 Las Vegas Strip massacre.

The autopsy, which included toxicology tests and a brain examination, found that Paddock had anti-anxiety medication in his system. It also confirmed what authorities had previously said — that Paddock died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head after he opened fire at an outdoor concert from his 32nd-floor Mandalay Bay suite, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds more.

Diazepam is a sedative-hypnotic drug in the class of benzodiazepines, which studies have shown can trigger aggressive behavior.
A summary of the toxicologist’s findings can be seen at the link.

There is a reason that I do not trust the prosecutor on this case...or any other potential ideological crime.

Kim Jong Un invites South Korea's Moon to Pyongyang
[DAWN] North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
invited the South's President Moon Jae-in for a summit in Pyongyang Saturday, Seoul said, even as the US warned against falling for Pyongyang's Olympic charm offensive.

The invitation, delivered by Kim's visiting sister Kim Yo Jong, said Kim was willing to meet the South's leader "at the earliest date possible", said a front man for the presidential Blue House.

An inter-Korean summit would be the third of its kind, after Kim's father and predecessor Kim Jong Il met the South's Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun in 2000 and 2007 respectively, both of them in Pyongyang.

But it could threaten to sow division between Moon, who has long argued for engagement with the nuclear-armed North to bring it to the negotiating table, and US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, who last year traded personal insults and threats of war with Kim.

Washington insists that Pyongyang ‐ which is under multiple sets of UN Security Council sanctions ‐ must show a willingness to give up its weapons before any negotiations can happen.

Kasur encounter: FIA told to stop ex-DPO from flying abroad
[DAWN] Nasir Rizvi, who was the district police officer (DPO) in 2017, has been restrained from traveling abroad for his alleged involvement in the murder of Mudassar in a police encounter.

An official said the process to put his name on the exit control list has been initiated, and the police may also seek details of the encounters carried out during the tenure of Mr Rizvi as the Kasur DPO.

A joint investigation team (JIT) is investigating the death of Mudassar, whose case was highlighted in the media after the arrest of Imran in the Zainab murder case. Mudassar was picked by Kasur police on Feb 24, 2017 in the rape-cum-murder of a minor girl of the locality, and was killed the same day.

The DNA profiling and revelation of Imran, later, showed that the minor girl was raped and killed by him (Imran).

The official said that the JIT had asked the Federal Investigation Agency to take measures at international airports of the country to stop the former Kasur DPO from traveling abroad.

Poll: Americans ‘Overwhelmingly' Believe Obama ‘Improperly Surveilled' Trump Campaign
[Breitbart] An IBD/TIPP poll shows that "Americans overwhelmingly believe the Obama administration ’improperly surveilled’ Donald Trump’s presidential campaign."

Despite the disgraced American media’s best and most cynical efforts to bury the truth, and to even stop the truth from ever seeing the light of day, this poll (and another addressed below) demonstrate that the American people are almost entirely tuning the partisan, mostly-hysterical news media out and looking to alternative media for the truth.

There is simply no other way to explain these poll results, which unambiguously prove that a majority of the public believe the exact opposite of what an unceasing, coordinated media campaign wants them to believe ‐ which is that President Trump colluded with the Russians to win the 2016 campaign and that the heroic FBI is being unfairly smeared by Trump’s eeeevil defenders.

Well, despite more than a year of this relentless propaganda coming from all four corners of the mainstream media’s fabricated reality, here are the results from all four corners of actual reality...

A clear majority of 55 percent believe it is "likely" that the Obama administration "improperly surveilled the Trump campaign during the 2016 election." That includes 31 percent of Democrats, 87 percent of Republicans, and 55 percent of Independents.

A clear majority of 54 percent want a special counsel to investigate "whether the FBI and the Department of Justice improperly surveilled the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election." Only 44 percent said no. The partisan breakdown shows that 74 percent of Republicans and 50 percent of Independents want a special counsel ‐ as do a full 44 percent of Democrats.

In this particular poll, one fairly positive result for the FBI and Justice Department is that only 35 percent believe these institutions attempted to outright frame President Trump for colluding with the Russians.

Two held over hidden cameras in Faisalabad garments shop
[DAWN] FAISALABAD: Police started the paperwork but haven't done much else and enjugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
two people on Thursday for installing hidden cameras inside a women’s fitting room at a garments shop.

Noman Zaffar, a law student, had filed a complaint with the People’s Colony police stating that he had visited the shop located on Chen One Road with his sister. She had gone inside the fitting room and found hidden cameras installed there.

When she informed him, Mr Zaffar said, he made a video of the hidden cameras, but the store employees flared up at this and threatened to upload the videos onto social media if he took action against them. He said that two of the employees ‐ Rizwan and Fayyaz ‐ had tried to snatch his mobile phone so that they could delete the video of the hidden cameras he had recorded. He said they told him that the cameras had been installed at the behest of the owner of the outlet. He claimed the employees had also tried to illegally detain him.

The police started the paperwork but haven't done much else under relevant sections of the Pakistain Penal Code against four people, including the owner of the outlet, its manager and the two employees, who were taken into custody. Police did not reveal the names of the outlet’s manager and owner, and stressed that investigation into the matter was underway.

Shock and horror
[DAWN] AS elections near, and the search for sticks to beat political opponents with reaches fever pitch, hypocrisy rises to new levels.

Consider the ongoing charges and counter-charges against police forces in Punjab, KP and Sindh. Provincial cops ‐ and by extension, their political masters ‐ are being accused of incompetence in recent high-profile crimes.

Shock, horror! The pretence here is that normally, we have outstanding guardians of the peace who have recently fallen flat on their faces because of political interference from the PML-N, PTI and PPP governments ruling in Punjab, KP and Sindh respectively.

The reality is that our police force was designed to protect the government of the day and its high officials, and not ordinary citizens. This priority was set by our colonial rulers decades ago, and remains unchanged today. Indeed, rules and police manuals reflect this reality.

So when brutal crimes are committed against children, for example ‐ as scores are every day of the week ‐ cops take this as the norm, and have to be persuaded to even record these atrocities. Until the recent spate of reported rapes and murders of children in the media, they were never a big deal for senior coppers more concerned with providing security to ministers.

Despite the obvious failings of the police in all these cases, using the sickening murders of children as ammunition against rivals is surely a new low, even in our toxic brand of politics where slander is the common currency. Inevitably, the media and suo motu

Nawaz fails to appear before NAB to record statements
[DAWN] Former premier Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
failed to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday to record his statements in two supplementary references ‐ al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship investments ‐ that are yet to be filed in an accountability court.

Since Sharif did not act on NAB's summons, the Bureau will file the references without his statement and the court will start hearing the case.

A NAB official told DawnNews that if Sharif had been out of the country, the Bureau would have first issued him a notice, reminding him to appear before the court to respond to the charges against him before the body files the references.

But since Sharif was present in the country and still didn't appear before the Bureau before the end of working hours, NAB will now file the references without the former prime minister's statement.

Nawaz was summoned by the Rawalpindi NAB headquarters that is now being headed by Irfan Mangi, a member of the Panama Papers leaks Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed by the Supreme Court to probe corruption allegations against the Sharif family.

[DAWN] A 19-year-old girl was allegedly bumped off by her brother 'in the name of honour' after a panchayat [local jury comprising influential people] condemned her to death, police said on Saturday.

Sukkur SSP Amjad Sheikh, citing initial reports, told news hounds that a local court in Pano Akil area of Sukkur district had declared the victim a "Kari" and condemned her to death.

Subsequently, the victim's brother shot her dead on February 8, and attempted to portray the murder as a suicide case, he said. The police, however, concluded that she was killed.

Later, the police filed a murder case and nabbed

Yemeni snipers kill four Saudi soldiers in retaliatory attacks
[PRESSTV] Yemeni army soldiers, backed by fighters from allied Popular Committees, have rubbed out four Saudi troopers in the kingdom’s southwestern border regions of Asir and Jizan, in retaliation for the Riyadh regime’s military campaign against the crisis-hit country.

A Yemeni military source, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, told Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that Yemeni forces shot and killed three soldiers at Sahwa military base of Asir on Saturday afternoon.

Yemeni forces and their allies also targeted another Saudi trooper in al-Khobe district of Jizan, located 966 kilometers south of the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Separately, Yemeni army soldiers and Popular Committees fighters killed six Saudi-backed holy warriors loyal to Yemen's former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, in the al-Matun district of Yemen’s northern province of al-Jawf.

Elsewhere in the Nihm district of the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa’ada, Yemeni army soldiers and their allies launched an attack against Saudi mercenaries, leaving scores of them dead or injured. Two vehicles belonging to the Saudi-sponsored forces were destroyed as well.

Family seeks justice for Filipino worker found in freezer in Kuwait
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The family of Joanna Daniela Demafelis, a Filipino worker whose body was found in a freezer in Kuwait, is demanding justice.

"I am appealing for government's help in seeking justice for my daughter's death," the victim's mother Eva Demafelis was quoted as saying by ABS-CBN News.

Demafelis travelled to Kuwait in 2014 to support her family and she last spoke to them between 2016 and 2017.

"Kuwaiti authorities have yet to determine when Demafelis died. Initial investigation found signs that she may have been tortured and strangled," the news site report.

Knife-wielding Palestinian arrested by Border Policeman near entrance to Tomb of the Patriarchs
The nonsense goes on.
[Ynet] A Paleostinian armed with a knife was tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
by Border Policemen near one of the security checkpoints at the entrance to the Tomb of the Patriarchs complex in Hebron.

An inquiry into the incident turned up that the Paleostinian, a boy from one the villages around Hebron, arrived to the checkpoint where forces found the knife on his person.

An initial interrogation found he intended to carry out a terrorist attack. He was handed over to security forces for further interrogation.
The Times of Israel adds:
With Border Police weapons cocked at him after setting off metal detector outside Tomb of Patriarchs, 15-year-old raises shirt to reveal weapon.

Iraq
Detainee says he was kidnapped, imprisoned by ISIS
[Ynet] A US citizen suspected of fighting with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
says he wasn't a fighter, but was kidnapped by the Death Eater group, tried to escape several times and was only in Syria to "understand firsthand and report" about the conflict, according to court papers filed Friday.
So he is merely a freelance journalist of some sort? I’d be suspicious, too, though it does happen.
New details about the unidentified detainee, held without charge in Iraq by the US for nearly five months, were included in documents the American Civil Liberties Union filed in US District Court in Washington.

If the US government wants to continue to detain him, it must charge him with a crime, the ACLU told the court.

The ACLU said the man, who surrendered on the Syrian battlefield to US-backed forces, claims the allegations against him are "riddled with inaccuracies."

Grassley-Graham Memo Affirms Nunes Memo ‐ Media Yawns
[NR] We need a full-blown investigation of how the FISA court came to grant warrants to spy on Carter Page.

In a word, the Grassley-Graham memo is shocking. Yet, the press barely notices. Rest assured: If a Republican administration had used unverifiable hearsay from a patently suspect agent of the Republican presidential candidate to gull the FISA court into granting a warrant to spy on an associate of the Democratic nominee’s campaign, it would be covered as the greatest political scandal in a half-century. Instead, it was the other way around.

The Grassley-Graham memo corroborates the claims in the Nunes memo: The Obama Justice Department and FBI used anonymously sourced, Clinton-campaign generated innuendo to convince the FISA court to issue surveillance warrants against Carter Page, and in doing so, they concealed the Clinton campaign’s role. Though the Trump campaign had cut ties with Page shortly before the first warrant was issued in October 2016, the warrant application was based on wild allegations of a corrupt conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Moreover, the warrant meant the FBI could seize not only Page’s forward-going communications but any past emails and texts he may have stored ‐ i.e., his Trump campaign communications.

A budget the likes of which the Pentagon has never seen
Thank goodness the economy is improving, so we can afford overdue spending.
[FoxNews] It's the biggest budget the Pentagon has ever seen: $700 billion. That's far more in defense spending than America's two nearest competitors, China and Russia, and will mean the military can foot the bill for thousands more troops, more training, more ships and a lot else.

And next year it would rise to $716 billion. Together, the two-year deal provides what Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says is needed to pull the military out of a slump in combat readiness at a time of renewed focus on the stalemated conflict in Afghanistan and the threat of war on the Korean peninsula.

The budget bill that President Donald Trump signed Friday includes huge spending increases for the military: The Pentagon will get $94 billion more this budget year than last -- a 15.5 percent jump. It's the biggest year-over-year windfall since the budget soared by 26.6 percent, from $345 billion in 2002 to $437 billion the year after, when the nation was fighting in Afghanistan, invading Iraq and expanding national defense after the 9/11 attacks.

The extra money is not targeted at countering a new enemy or a singular threat like al-Qaida extremists or the former Soviet Union. Instead the infusion is being sold as a fix for a broader set of problems, including a deficit of training, a need for more hi-tech missile defenses, and the start of a complete recapitalization of the nuclear weapons arsenal.

Every secretary of defense since 2011, when the Congress passed a law setting firm limits on military and domestic spending, has complained that spending caps set by the Budget Control Act were squeezing the military so hard that the number of ready-to-fight combat units was dwindling. Aging equipment was stacking up, troops were not getting enough training and the uncertain budget outlook was clouding America's future.

"I cannot overstate the negative impact to our troops and families' morale from all this budget uncertainty," Mattis said just hours before the House and Senate approved the deal.

Kenya Prevented Major Al Shabaab Attacks, Says Uhuru Kenyatta
[RADIOSHABELLE] President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday praised Kenya Defence Force’s strategies in fighting al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
, saying they had borne fruit because the terror gang had failed to carry out any major attack in the country in the last two years.

He said the troops in Somalia and those deployed to Boni Forest in Lamu had neutralised the terrorist group’s plans in Kenya and the region.

Safe
Speaking during a passing-out parade at the military Recruits Training School in Eldoret, the President said KDF had helped make the country safer.

"Our engagements have indeed degraded al-Shabaab’s ability to attack in Kenya and elsewhere," he said, adding that he was keen on protecting Kenya from any aggression by the group in his last term in office.

"Part of my duty as commander-in-chief is the protection of Kenyans and preservation of Kenya’s integrity under the Constitution and that is why I continue to laud the efforts of the Kenya Defence Forces in their fight against terrorism in Somalia and closer to home as part of the multi-agency force currently in Boni Forest," he added.

Attacks
Kenya sent its troops to Somalia in 2011 following persistent attacks and kidnappings by members of the al-Shabaab.

Since then the group has successfully carried out occasional attacks in Kenya although most have been restricted to counties bordering Somalia, the last being at the Garissa University College in 2015 where 148 people were killed by button men linked to the group.

The last major attack outside North Eastern was at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi in September 2013 when its members shot at customers killing dozens.

Last year, the government deployed troops to Boni Forest to flush out a faction of the terror group that was said to have moved there after being kicked out of Somalia.

Peace
On Thursday, the President said efforts of those who have fought in defence of the country would not be forgotten.

"When this entire region is finally at peace, it will be because the men and women of this service fought bravely for peace, for prosperity and for freedom and equality under law," said the President who also paid tribute to those who have died in Somalia, saying they paid the ultimate price while defending their compatriots.

"I stand here today to say that these sons and daughters of Kenya have not fallen in vain. Their sacrifice for our freedom strengthens our resolve to fight the enemy and to destroy him once and for all," said the President.

The Head of State pointed out that the Kenya Defence Forces remained a symbol of the country’s nationhood and a leading example of its unity.

The forces unity and cohesion stand as proof of the greatness that can be achieved when all Kenyans live in harmony, he said and urged the public to emulate the example of the country’s forces who serve the country selflessly and diligently.

Global Cyberfraud Gang's 'Co-Founder' Arrested in Thailand
[AnNahar] A Russian man accused of co-running a global cybercrime network shuttered in a US-led crackdown this week has been tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
in Bangkok and will face extradition, Thai police said Friday.

Sergey Medvedev, 31, is accused of co-founding the "Infraud Organization," an online network that stole and sold credit card and other personal identity data, causing $530 million in losses, according to US authorities.

On Wednesday the US Department of Justice indicted 36 people of racketeering conspiracy and other crimes for their roles in the crime syndicate.

Thirteen defendants hailing from around the globe were arrested in the US and six other countries, including Australia, the UK, La Belle France, Italia, Kosovo and Serbia.

Medvedev was not listed as one of the 36 suspects charged this week but was described in the indictment as co-administrator of the network with its Ukraine founder Svyatoslav Bondarenko, who remains on the lam.

Masked cops armed with automatic weapons swooped on his Bangkok condo on February 2, making the arrest before US justice officials indicted other alleged members of the ring.

"(Medvedev) is now being detained at Bangkok Remand Prison waiting for US authorities to take him for prosecution in the US," said Nuthapon Rattanamongkolsak, a Thai officer from the Crime Suppression Division.

The US Embassy in Bangkok declined to comment.

The Russian national frequently travelled in and out of Thailand over the past six years on tourist visas, the officer said.

"He has no real job here and spent his life as any other tourist," Nuthapon told AFP, adding that he expected authorities to extradite Medvedev within the month.

Infraud was founded in Ukraine in 2010 and touted itself with the slogan "In Fraud We Trust."

It became the "premier destination" on the web for purchasing goods with counterfeit or stolen credit card information, according to US authorities.

The organization, which had 10,901 approved "members" by 2017, also provided an "escrow" service for transactions in crypto-currencies including Bitcoin, the indictment said.

Mevedev is not the first alleged cybercriminal to have used Thailand as a base. Last year Thai police arrested a 26-year-old Canadian who was wanted by the US for running AlphaBay, at the time the world's largest dark web marketplace for drugs and other contraband. The suspect, Alexandre Cazes, died in Thai police custody before he could be extradited. Officers said the computer programmer hanged himself with a towel in his detention cell in Bangkok.

Hindu stone temple to be built in Abu Dhabi by 2020
I didn’t think I could be this shocked.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] By 2020, UAE’s Abu Dhabi will be hosting the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East which will be hand carved and crafted by temple artisans in India and assembled in the UAE.

The architecture will be inspired by the Akshardham Temple in New Delhi, reported The National newspaper on Thursday.

The temple will be located just off the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway. Some features the holy landmark will encompass are visitors’ prayer halls, exhibitions, learning areas, a sports area for children, thematic gardens, water features and a book shop.

The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha have been entrusted to design, construct and manage the temple by the rulers of the UAE and the Government of India.

Spacious area
The temple will stand on 55,000 square meters of land. The spacious area was a gift from the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

On Sunday, the temple’s groundbreaking ceremony will be livestreamed at the Dubai Opera House with the presence of the Indian premier Narendra Modi.

His visit comes in light of the sixth edition of the World Government Summit set to take place in Dubai.

A front man from BAPS said that temple "will facilitate the traditional practice of the Hindu faith and serve the over 3.3 million Indians residing in and the millions of international tourists annually visiting the UAE through interfaith dialogue, pluralism and universal human values. It will also nurture the children of today and future generations towards a brighter future."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Abbas tells India PM he seeks multi-country peace mediation
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
told visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday that he is counting on India’s support for a multi-country sponsorship of any future Israeli-Paleostinian negotiations.
Maybe they could form a quartet?
Such a framework would ostensibly replace Washington’s long-standing monopoly as mediator. Abbas rejected the traditional US role after President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
recognized contested Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December. Trump’s pivot upset Paleostinians who seek the city’s Israeli-annexed eastern sector as a capital.

Abbas has appealed to the international community, including countries in Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and the Arab world, to demand a say in future negotiations, but has so far failed to secure commitments.

European leaders have criticized Trump’s dramatic policy shift on Jerusalem, but appear unwilling to confront Washington over its handling of more than two decades of failed efforts to broker an Israeli-Paleostinian partition deal.

First visit by India PM
Modi’s visit to the city of Ramallah was the first by an Indian prime minister to an autonomous Paleostinian enclave in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The Indian leader pledged $41 million for a hospital, three schools and other projects in the West Bank. He said India remains "committed to Paleostinian national rights," but stopped short of offering support for Abbas’ political agenda.

Modi’s West Bank visit was seen, in part, as an attempt to compensate the Paleostinians after he hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for six days last month, in a reflection of warming ties between Israel and India.

Terrorist organisations in Egypt 2017
[AlAhram] While the number of terrorist attacks dramatically decreased in recent years, terrorist tactics have changed, and these organizations remain a vivid threat to national security.

For several years, Egypt has been the victim of one of the fiercest waves of terrorism in its contemporary history.

It began in August 2012 with the "Ramadan massacre" in Rafah, claiming the lives of 16 soldiers, and reached its highest peak in 2015, which experienced the most terrorist attacks (594) in any single year from 2013 to 2017. In January 2015, alone, there were 124 armed attacks.

Tom Del Beccaro: All Corrupt DOJ and FBI Roads Lead to Obama
[Breitbart] Holistic analysis of the Justice Department (DOJ) and FBI’s interconnected and ostensible investigations of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump amount to "the worst abuse of political power in American history related to elections," according to Tom Del Beccaro.

Del Beccaro, an attorney and contributor to Forbes, joined Thursday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with co-hosts Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak to discuss his recently published ‐ and continually updated ‐ timeline of events, entitled "Biased FBI and DOJ Officials Broke the Law and Tried to Decide the Election."

"The DOJ [and] the entire Obama administration wound down the Hillary email crisis in time for her to really run for office and then ramped up the attacks on candidate Trump to stop him from being president," said Del Beccaro.

As president, Barack Obama signaled to his administration officials that Hillary Clinton was not to be meaningfully investigated for her felonious use of a private email system during her tenure as secretary of state, said Del Beccaro.

"The FBI was sort of just going through the motions with Hillary, and it’s about March or April, and suddenly the election heats up, and Obama goes on TV, and he says, with Chris Wallace, basically, that she didn’t intend to do anything [wrong]; she didn’t want to harm us," said Del Beccaro. "That’s irrelevant to the crime she committed of possessing classified information in an insecure environment. So he announces this, and once he does, the DOJ and the FBI then change their speed [of] work and the manner in which they’re working, the things that they’re doing, and between April and June, they exonerate her, and what I mean by that is they change the language in the memo as to whether she was doing something wrong from ’gross negligence’ of a crime to ... ’extreme carelessness.’ That’s irrelevant. That’s not legal language: ’extreme carelessness.’"

Obama’s endorsement of Clinton in May 2016 ‐ while the FBI was ostensibly investigating the former first lady for her handling of classified information and evasion of federal record-keeping laws ‐ suggests the FBI’s running of a "sham investigation" of Clinton’s email conduct, said Del Beccaro.

Egypt Armed Forces pound terrorists as Operation Sinai 2018 continues: Communique 3
Great things are being done by the noble Egyptian Armed Forces. At some point we will be informed of the results, but not today.
[AlAhram] Operation Sinai 2018 is one of the largest coordinated campaigns Egypt has conducted against domestic terrorism.

Egypt's armed forces said early Saturday that the air force has continued conducting "intensive air strikes against terrorist targets and gatherings monitored earlier in Central and North Sinai."

In a third communique on "Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018", which was launched Friday, armed forces front man Tamer El-Refaie said the robust strikes targeted weaponry, ammunition, and explosives warehouses, and logistical support, with the air forces continuing to secure air space strategically over border areas

El-Refaie said that law enforcement forces, supported by special forces and border guards as well as police, have carried out several simultaneous raids on towns in Central and Northern Sinai to chase runaway elements, eradicate them, and continue to demolish targets belonging to terrorist elements.

The navy is also tightening control on the seafront from Rafah to western al-Arish, to cut supply lines for terrorists, while maintaining security of economic installations in the area.

He added that navy units are conducting patrols to secure the coast from Marsa Matrouh to Salloum along the wester Mediterranean shores in cooperation with the border guards who are securing southern and western border areas.

Border guards and other forces are carrying out missions to secure navigation in the Suez Canal and thwart attempts of forces of Evil to escape.

Forces are also executing operations to track forces of Evil in the Western Desert’s Wahat and other areas in Upper Egypt governorates.

According to Refaie, police forces are conducting combing operation in all residential areas in Central and North Sinai, setting up checkpoints on local roads in cooperation with armed forces.

"The armed forces and police stressed their persistence to eradicate the roots of terrorism and achieve security and stability for the great Egyptian people," the statement added.
Herewith the only accomplishment thus far:
Egypt's High State Security Prosecution orders 15-day detention of 14 Hasm members on terrorism charges

[AlAhram] Egypt's High State Security Prosecution ordered a 15-day detention pending investigation of 14 members of the Hasm terrorist group who were tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
on Friday on charges including carrying out terror attacks and assassinating coppers.

The prosecution charged the 14 defendants with joining an outlawed group that aims to suspend the constitution and the law, hinder the state institutions from carrying out their duties, assault the personal freedoms of citizens and harm national unity and social peace, adopting ideas accusing the ruler of being an infidel and attempting to change the regime by force, as well as assaulting army and coppers with the aim of disrupting public order and jeopardising the security and safety of society through terrorism as a means to achieve its goals.

The defendants were also charged with murder and attempted murder, possession of explosives and unlicensed and banned weaponry and ammunition that they were plotting to use in terror operations to disturb security, public order, national unity and social peace.

The detention order comes one day after Egypt's interior ministry arrested the men during raids on suspected terrorist hideouts in the governorates of Qalioubiya, Daqahliya, Beheira, Menoufiya, Sharqiya, Assiut and Fayoum, as part of a comprehensive security plan to confront terrorism.

Police also said they killed three members of Hasm in a shootout in an under-construction residential building in Cairo during one of yesterday's raids.

Police said the 14 members of Hasm, which the government considers one of the armed wings of the banned Moslem Brüderbund, were found on Friday in possession of nine machine guns, a Heckler submachine gun, four pistols, a locally made shotgun, different types of ammunition, two explosive canisters, a silencer, and two cycle of violences used in terror operations, which included a number of liquidations of senior coppers in Qalioubiya and Daqahliya, as well as attacks on police checkpoints.

#5  SNHU appears to be an online degree mill, but at least they are smart enough to know this story hurts:
Southern New Hampshire University has fired an online adjunct professor and apologized to an Idaho student after the professor gave the student a failing grade and insisted that Australia is not a country.

Lauren Keane, assistant vice president of communications for the Manchester-based university, acknowledged that a story about what happened to SNHU online student Ashley Arnold of Idaho, reported by BuzzFeed News on Thursday, is true.

Keane said SNHU is not identifying the professor involved, “at the student’s request.” She said the teacher “does not live in New Hampshire and does not work on campus.”

#6  Southern New Hampshire University used to be New Hampshire College, nestled in a cute little section of northern Manchester (North River Road), near the border with Hooksett. The changeover to 'university' happened about twenty years ago, under conditions I don't know a damn thing about. You may have seen the semi-ubiquitous commercials with that stupid fucking bus cruising around (and other sappy, cheesy adverts), which means Frank G's comment about SNHU now being an online diploma mill are dead-on accurate. Very few colleges advertise like that on the tele.

There aren't too many competitors to 'real colleges' in Manch Vegas - UNH - Manchester (used to be Merrimack Valley college, probably twenty buildings max), Hesser College (nickname - Hesser High School, a couple of buildings off of Merrimack / Elm St., near Bridge St.) and that's about it. Now you know one reason I got the fuck out of that cesspool of a city, now ravaged so bad by the opioid epidemic / Lawrence MA welfare refugees and assorted white trash some of my high school topped my nickname for the place - 'North Brockton', They're calling it Manch-ghanistan. Isn't that nice?

I dated a woman a long time ago whose parents taught at NHC - the mother was a standard lefty, the father was not. I was having dinner with them (around 1992) one time and the talk turned to politics. I told her I was voting for Pat Buchanan. The mother literally dropped her fork; the father had this huge smile on his face because he knew I liked doing this stuff to her. I'm pretty sure they're both long since retired, so I know the last name on this jagoff isn't Zimmermann.

That's a long-winded way of saying, 'this doesn't surprise me at all.

Arabia
Senior religious Saudi figure says women ‘shouldn’t be forced to wear abaya’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sheikh Abdullah al-Mutlaq, a member of the top Moslem holy manal body in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, said that women should not be obliged to wear abayas as the purpose of the Sharia code is to cover the entire body with any long and loose-fitting garment, whether using a cloak or any form of modest clothing.

This is another indication of the Kingdom’s efforts towards modernization. He continued to say that 90 percent of Moslem women in the Moslem world do not wear an abaya and do not even know it.

"As we see in Mecca and Medina, a large number of decent, religious women do not wear abayas. This in itself is bare witness that women should not be obliged to wear abayas," said Mutlaq during the "Friday Studio" program on Nedaa al-Islam channel.

A member of the holy manal body clarified that wearing an abaya is fulfilling the act of being conservative. An abaya falls under what Allah has referred to as the Jalabib in the Koran and has urged women to wear. If a woman chooses to cover her head, shoulders or otherwise with an abaya, that would be fine.

While not necessarily signaling a change in the law, the statement is the first of its kind from a senior religious figure. It follows the recent pattern of freedoms the Kingdom has been witnessing with the ascent of young Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to power.

Only the government-appointed holy mans associated with the Council of Senior Scholars are allowed to issue fatwas, or Islamic legal opinions. Their interpretations of Islamic law form the basis of Saudi Arabia’s legal system.

Saudi women have started wearing more colorful abayas in recent years, the light blues and pinks in stark contrast with the traditional black. Open abayas over long skirts or jeans are also becoming more common in some parts of the country.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Fake homeowners association files real liens on Northland neighborhood after fake bills go unpaid
[FOX4KC] For years, people living in a quiet neighborhood in the Northland ignored the invoices that arrived in their mail demanding payment to a homeowners association.

"Just want to let you know it's a scam," Tony Navarro said he was told when he moved to the Summerfield subdivision. "This is not an HOA neighborhood at all. There are no monthly fees."

But then, just before Christmas, a $445 lien was filed against Navarro’s home and more than 30 others.

The reason? For not paying dues to the Summerfield Homeowners Association. An HOA that has no board and provides no services.

If you call the phone number for the company that runs the HOA -- Column's Park LLC: "It's some random guy that answers," neighbor Jesse Kaucher said.

"He told me he had the number for five years," Kaucher said. "He asked me to let the community know it’s not him. That's how you know it's a scam."

That’s why neighbors called FOX4 Problem Solvers. Even though the HOA may be fake, the liens are real. Neighbors have had to hire attorney Ed Ford to get them removed.

The filing of fake liens and other documents has become a big problem in Missouri. The owners of a $4 million mansion in St. Louis had to go to court to prevent a woman they accused of filing a fake quit claim deed from taking possession of their home.

"I was stunned," said Rep. Kirk Mathews, R-Pacific. " I did not know this practice existed."

Mathews has since learned it’s easy to file fake documents because the recorder of deeds in each county doesn’t have the manpower to check out the legitimacy of each claim.

"They are just stamping it, stamping it and it’s filed and done," said Mathews who has sponsored legislation to make filing fake documents a felony. "Hopefully this bill will provide some real teeth for law enforcement to go after the people who are doing this."

Meanwhile back in Kansas City, Problem Solvers wanted to help the Summerfield neighborhood get rid of those liens.

We paid a visit to Karen Sue Lovell, who filed the liens and is listed as manager of the Summerfield HOA in a letter she sent to homeowners.

We tried to talk to Lovell, but she wouldn’t even open the door of her home. Speaking behind a window, she told us she had no comment.

Later Lovell’s attorney wrote to FOX4 that Lovell thought the neighborhood should have an HOA to pay for the upkeep of the lot containing the neighborhood’s drainage basin.

FOX4 Problem Solvers found it surprising that Lovell cared since she lives in Independence -- far from the Summerfield neighborhood.

We also wanted to speak to the other person behind the fake Summerfiled HOA, but he was even harder to reach.

Al Roberts is in federal prison, convicted of $3 million in mortgage fraud. Roberts, a retired Kansas City school teacher, formed Column's Park, the company behind the HOA. Roberts also sent out the initial invoices to homeowners.

Ford, the attorney hired by homeowners, said he spoke with Roberts after that first invoice arrived.

"I very nicely said, 'What the heck are you thinking?' said Ford, who then informed Roberts what he was doing was illegal.

"I thought I had properly educated him but apparently not," Ford said.

A relative of Roberts told FOX4 that Roberts is still running the company from his federal prison cell. That’s something the attorney representing Column's Park denied.

The good news is that with Ford’s help the liens have now been dismissed. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
neighbors are worried that there’s nothing preventing it from happening again.

Terror Networks
U.S. Sanctions Three People, Three Firms For Supporting Islamic State
[RADIOSHABELLE] The United States said on Friday it had imposed sanctions on three people and three companies in the Philippines, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
, and Somalia that supported the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
hard boy group, including a business that procured parts for unmanned aircraft.

The U.S. Treasury, in a statement, said it had imposed sanctions on Abdulpatta Escalon Abubakar for providing financial and material support for Islamic State and its network in the Philippines.

It sanctioned Yunus Emre Sakarya and his Turkey-based firm Profesyoneller Elektronik for procuring parts for unmanned aircraft for Islamic State.

Yunus Emre Sakarya, has allegedly played a “key” role in acquiring UAV “components” since “at least 2015.” Sakarya established a “Turkey-based company, Profesyoneller Elektronik,” that year and has operated it ever since. Profesyoneller Elektronik, which is located in the Kecioren district of Ankara, “serves as an ISIS front company involved in the procurement of UAV-related materials” and, during the first half of 2016, “was involved in transactions for UAV-related equipment that totaled over $500,000 for ISIS.”

Sakarya is a dual citizen of Germany and Turkey, according to the US government’s identifying information. In addition to Turkey, he has operated out of Mayadin, Syria — a city on the Euphrates River in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ezzor. Mayadin is a a known hub for the Islamic State’s leadership.

And it sanctioned Mohammed Mire Ali Yusuf and his firms Liibaan Trading and Al Mutafaq Commercial Company for activities supporting Islamic State in Somalia.
Lots more detail at Long War Journal
Long War Journal Link
Mohamed Mire Ali Yusuf (Mire Ali), is “an ISIS-aligned financial operative” who has “provided funds” to Abdulqadir Mumin.

Mumin was a Shabaab commander in the Puntland region. But he defected to the Islamic State in 2015, proclaiming his allegiance Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. The US designated Mumin as a terrorist in Aug. 2016.

Mire Ali has helped finance Mumin’s branch of the so-called caliphate, according to Treasury. Two of Mire Ali’s companies, Liibaan Trading and Al-Mutafaq Commercial Company, both of which are located in Bosaso (a city in Puntland), were added to the US government’s list of designated terrorist organizations as well.

Treasury says that Mire Ali “ran all of his business activities through” Liibaan Trading, in downtown Bosaso, as of mid-2016. Liibaan is a “livestock trading business” that has “served as a front for ISIS-aligned groups in the Bari region of Somalia.” His business has likely taken him to Dubai, too, as the government’s identifying information places him in the city.

85,000 displaced in 10 weeks of violence in Yemen: UN
[DAWN] The UN said on Friday that surging violence across Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
had pushed some 85,000 people from their homes in the past 10 weeks, with hundreds continuing to flee each day.

The UN refugee agency said more than 70 per cent of those displaced since December 1 had fled a military escalation in the Hodeida and Taez governorates on Yemen’s west coast.

UNHCR voiced particular concern for displaced people remaining in areas close to the hostilities in the two governorates, where conditions are continuing to rapidly deteriorate, "exposing people to violence and disease, without basic services."

"Most of those displaced in the governorates of Hodeida and Taez remain hosted by relatives or friends, trapped inside homes or in caves as ground festivities, aerial bombardment and sniper fire rage around them," UNHCR spokeswoman Cecile Pouilly told news hounds in Geneva.

Al-Shabaab Man Sentence Is Reduced To 15 Years
[RADIOSHABELLE] A 35-year-old man who pleaded guilty to being a member of al-Shabaab
... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia...
terror group six years ago, will now serve 15 years in jail after the Court of Appeal quashed a life sentence imposed on him.

Elgiva Bwire Oliacha was lucky that the prosecutor during his trial failed to table in court a P3 form of two victims who suffered grievous harm during the attack at Kaka Bus stage on October 24, 2011.

Guilty
Therefore, judges of the Court of Appeal ruled it is a basic rule of evidence in criminal law that an accused person must not be convicted of a criminal offence unless the court is satisfied that his guilt has been proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Justices Daniel Musinga, William Ouko and Gatembu Kairu noted that there was no proof of the existence or the nature of the injuries sustained by Patrick Ndolo Kanyingi and Justus Makau Mulwa.

They said that from the record, the degree or classification of injuries sustained by the two victims were supplied by the investigating officer and verbally communicated to the court by the prosecutor.

Chief magistrate Grace Ngenye (now a judge of the High Court) had sentenced Oliacha to life imprisonment for grievous harm and additional 15 years for engaging in organised criminal activity by being member of the outlawed terror group.

The court also sentenced him to seven years each for being in possession of firearms, hand grenades and ammunition.

When he first appealed before the High Court, Justice Msagha Mbogholi had directed that the sentences to run concurrently and not consecutively.

Oliach was tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
following the terror attack along Race Course Road in Nairobi. When the police interrogated him, he took him to his house in Kayole, they recovered an AK47 rifle, a sub-machine gun, 2 revolver pistols, 2 automatic pistols, 717 bullets, 1 SNG machine gun magazine and 13 hand grenades.

The court heard that Oliacha converted to Islam in 2005 and immediately tried entering Somalia to join al-Shabaab. His first attempt failed and was returned at the border. He eventually succeeded to cross to Somalia through Liboi, on his second attempt.

He underwent training and was when he was qualified, he was dispatched to Kenya, where he settled in Kayole and started recruiting members.

The prosecution said he was the man who supervised and directed the twin attacks at Race Course Road.

The three judges dismissed other grounds of appeal stating that they were satisfied that Oliacha knew what he was doing as there was no suggestion that he was suffering from any disease of the mind.

He had also faulted the move to conduct proceedings at Nairobi Area police headquarters. "We are unable to find anything of unusual character to make us agree with learned counsel for the appellant that the plea was procured by fear of the environment at the police headquarters. At no stage did the appellant complain of torture or mistreatment by the police. Neither did he exhibit any signs of confusion," the Judges said.

They added that they found nothing objectionable to the holding of the proceedings at the police headquarters and the nature of exhibits required a place with sufficient security and where safety was guaranteed. Oliacha had been charged together with Mr Omar Muchiri Athuman and Mr Stephen Macharia Mwangi, who pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."

Pro-Pakistan slogans raised in India-held Kashmir's assembly
[DAWN] An Indian politician raised pro-Pakistain slogans in the Jammu and Kashmire Legislative Assembly on Saturday after his counterparts from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) allegedly chanted anti-Pakistain slogans in the wake of a suspected hard boy attack on an Indian army camp.

Akbar Lone, a National Conference politician from Sonawari, later accepted that he had raised the slogans because he had been "provoked" by the slogans raised by BJP politicians, the Times of India reported.

"Yes, I said it. It is my personal view, I said it in the house and I don't think anyone should have a problem with it," Lone was quoted as saying by ANI.

Reports suggested that politicians associated with the BJP were raising slogans against Pakistain, accusing it of involvement in the Saturday morning attack on the Sunjuwan army camp in Jammu.

A National Conference spokesperson while quoting party president Farooq Abdullah said that Lone's action in the assembly was "unacceptable" and the party "disowns and condemns his remark".

Latest news in the conflict between Hamas and ISIS in Gaza
[GatestoneInstitute] The war between the two terror groups reached its peak this week, with revelations that ISIS had plotted to assassinate Hamas
[as Fred says, an acronym for 'frothing at the mouth']
leader Ismail Haniyeh.

According to an Egyptian intelligence report, Hamas recently arrested 18 ISIS suspects who planned to carry out the assassination in the Gaza Strip. The ISIS cell evidently was planning to place explosives in the "White Mosque" in the Gaza Strip, where Haniyeh prays, the reports said. The plot, they added, was uncovered thanks to cooperation between Hamas and the Egyptian authorities.
