The Paradoxes of the Mueller Investigation
[National Review] Special Counsel Robert Mueller has indicted 13 Russian nationals for allegedly conspiring to sow confusion in the 2016 presidential election. The chance of extraditing any of the accused from Vladimir Putin’s Russia is zero.

But from here on out, there will be ironies, paradoxes, and unintended consequences with just about everything Mueller does.

Is it now time to prosecute foreigners for attempting to interfere with a U.S. election? If so, then surely Christopher Steele, the author of the Fusion GPS dossier, is far more culpable and vulnerable than the 13 bumbling Russians.

Steele is not a U.S. citizen. Steele colluded with Russian interests in compiling his lurid dossier about Donald Trump. Steele did not register as a foreign agent. And Steele was paid by Hillary Clinton’s campaign to find dirt on political rival Trump and his campaign.

In other words, Steele’s position is far worse than that of the Russians for a variety of reasons. One, he is easily extraditable while the Russians are not. Two, his efforts really did affect the race, given that the dossier was systematically leaked to major media and served as a basis for the U.S. government to spy on American citizens. Three, unlike with the Russians, no one disputes that American citizens ‐ Hillary Clinton, members of the Democratic National Committee, and anti-Trump partisan Glenn Simpson and his Fusion GPS team ‐ colluded by paying for Steele’s work.

#1  And Steele was paid by Hillary Clinton’s campaign to find dirt on political rival Trump and his campaign.

Yes, Clinton's campaign paid a foreign intelligence operative (Steele), to secure slanderous accusations, reportedly from other foreign personnel (evil Russians), against a US Person (Donald Trump)....which were apparently then used to obtain a FISA warrant to electronically monitor (Donald Trump) other US Persons.

While I am clearly not an attorney, I cannot help but feel somewhere in all of this there are violations of federal or state law(s), espionage, etc.

Nothing seems to be being done about it however.

#2  B - and since HRC's finances were essentially bankrolling the DNC during the election (hence they paid for the dossier)- at the very least campaign finance laws were broken.

Florida shooting survivor says CNN gave him 'scripted' questions at town hall event
A survivor of the massacre at Parkland, Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is accusing CNN of giving him scripted questions during Wednesday night’s town hall on gun violence.

Colton Haab told Miami’s local WPLG-TV that the network refused to allow him to raise his idea that schools consider employing U.S. military veterans as armed security guards and instead offered him canned questions.

"CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted," Haab said, adding that he decided not to attend the event as a result.

"I expected to be able to ask my questions and give my opinion on my questions," Haab told the station Janine Stanwood. "I don think that it going get anything accomplished. Itnot gonna ask the true questions that all the parents and teachers and students have."The network has categorically denied the charges.

"There is absolutely no truth to this. CNN did not provide or script questions for anyone in last night's town hall, nor have we ever," the company said in a statement to TheWrap.

"After seeing an interview with Colton Haab, we invited him to participate in our town hall along with other students and administrators from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Colton's father withdrew his name from participation before the forum began, which we regretted but respected. We welcome Colton to join us on CNN today to discuss his views on school safety."

Major armed police operation in Brussels as officers ‘block gunmen in building'
[RT] Armed police and a helicopter have been deployed to a house in Brussels. At least one armed man is believed to be inside, according to local media.

The incident is taking place near a primary school in the municipality of Forest, on Rue Jean-Baptiste Vanpe. The school is attended by approximately 350 pupils, and the children have been taken inside as a safety precaution. The mayor of Forest, Marc-Jean Ghyssels, has also confirmed the police operation, citing "suspicion of the presence of armed men," RTBF reported.

A security perimeter has been established, with a witness telling RTL Info that police have ordered residents of the neighborhood to stay inside their homes. Armed police and snipers have been deployed to the scene. Police helicopters are also flying above the area.

Local media reported in August that Belgian prosecutors had opened an average of more than 20 probes per month against people suspected of terrorism-related offenses since the start of 2017, many of whom were thought to be "homegrown" extremists.

Update at 9:40 a.m. ET: the Daily Mail is on the case:
Armed police seal off streets after reports of a gunman at large in Brussels suburb where terror suspect Salah Abdeslam hid from authorities after Paris attacks

But a police spokeswoman denied media reports that an armed gunman was hiding in the area, saying the heavily armed units were responding to reports of a possible murder.

She said the special units of the federal police had been deployed in a major security operation after a Polish man reported that someone had been murdered in the morning.

'They are searching the buildings but we can say there has not been any terrorist attack,' she said.
Page 1: War on Terror was the right first call, and we’ll stick with that until we are certain it should be filed elsewhere, especially given the location.
Update from the Daily Mail at 2:15 p.m. ET:
Thursday's incident began after a Polish man reported what he said was a murder, Calie said.

When police arrived at the address, they found nothing.

'It seems he may have expressed himself badly,' Calie said.

But witnesses there said that an incident had happened at a nearby building and they reported seeing an armed man, so officers from Belgium's special federal police force were called in, she said.

'We can rule out terrorism,' Calie said.
Article moved to P.3: Non-WoT. Here’s hoping the Belgian police did not call it too soon.

Sessions forms U.S. cyber task force after election warnings
h/t QANON
(Rooters) - U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday announced he would create a task force to examine how his Justice Department can better combat global cyber threats, including efforts to interfere with elections or damage critical infrastructure.

Last week, leaders of U.S. intelligence agencies warned that Russia will try to interfere in the 2018 midterm elections in November and said the United States was "under attack."

The Justice Department will have until the end of June to report its findings, according to a memorandum Sessions signed on Friday but released on Tuesday.

"The internet has given us amazing new tools that help us work, communicate, and participate in our economy, but these tools can also be exploited by criminals, terrorists, and enemy governments," Sessions said in a statement.

The task force, composed of representatives from different branches of the Justice Department, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, will examine use of the internet to spread violent ideologies and recruit followers, how hackers breach private corporate and government data, and law enforcement challenges posed by strong encryption.
Then rooters goes into propaganda mode. Interesting, it took them to the 6th paragraph.
Some security experts expressed skepticism about the task force, saying it lacked focus or a clear mission purpose.

"This step basically takes a number of really complicated parallel issues in 'hard' cybersecurity and 'soft' information security and throws them into the same amorphous task force," said Graham Brookie, a cyber security aide in the Obama administration who now works at the Digital Forensic Research Lab at the Atlantic Council think tank.

U.S. intelligence officials have said Russia believes it successfully undermined U.S. democracy in the 2016 presidential election and would try again.
Which intelligence officials? Clapper and Brennan?
U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller last week charged several Russians with conducting a trollingcriminal and espionage conspiracy through social media by boosting Republican Donald Trump and denigrating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Russia has repeatedly denied the allegations.
What crap.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed the Russian cyber threat, and called Mueller's investigation of possible collusion between his campaign and Moscow a "witch hunt."

Sessions, who recused himself from overseeing the Mueller probe after failing to disclose meetings with Russian officials, said last October "probably not" when asked by a U.S. senator if enough was being done to tackle Russian interference.

South Africa's new president wants to confiscate land from white farmers
[Business Insider] If you’ve been following much international news, you’ve probably heard that, after literally years of scandal, abuse, and incompetence, South Africa’s president Jacob Zuma was finally forced to resign last week.

This is a big deal for South Africa.

The country has been suffering for nearly a decade under Zuma’s corruption.

And people are certainly hoping that the new president, Cyril Ramaphosa, will represent a positive, new chapter for South Africa.

Yesterday Ramaphosa addressed the nation’s parliament in Cape Town and made clear that his priority is to heal the divisions and injustice of the past, going all the way back to the original European colonists in the 1600s taking land from the indigenous tribes.

US Embassy 'Under Attack' by grenade throwing assailant in Montenegro
[Express] The US Embassy in the Montenegro capital of Podgorica has been blasted with a grenade by an unnamed attacker who then blew himself up with a second device, American officials have confirmed.

The attack happened just before midnight last night. The embassy was closed at the time of the incident.

The government of Montenegro confirmed an unknown assailant threw the grenade into the embassy compound and then blew himself up with another explosive device.

There are no reported deaths except of the attacker.
Nice effort, bad finish. I give him a 3.0
The New York Times reported that a witness saw the man throw the object over the wall at around midnight.

Steve Goldstein, the US State Department's Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, has said the motive of the attack is unknown or whether it was a deliberate suicide attack.

However, one source at the scene has described how one of the grenades the attacker attempted to throw at the Embassy exploded while still attached to his belt, killing him in the process.
Darwin 1 - Attacker 0
Update from the Telegraph at 9:45a.m. ET:
Citing police sources, the Montenegrin press identified the suspected attacker as Dalibor Jaukovic, a 43-year-old Podgorica resident and a former soldier. Jaukovic’s Facebook profile revealed that in 1999 he was decorated by Slobodan Milosevic for “outstanding dedication to his duties in the defence and security of the homeland” during the Nato bombing of Serbia.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Nothing New. FBI Has Been Criminally Negligent In Almost All Of America's Major Terrorist Attacks
[Mercer] The FBI, now investigating POTUS, was criminally negligent or criminally culpable in almost all of America’s major terrorist attacks and, not surprisingly, in the Florida Parkland School massacre, too. Patrick Pool, national security and terrorism correspondent for PJMedia, coined the phrase Known Wolf just for the FBI’s feats of incompetence.

However, as far as I can recall, this is the first time this rogue agency has admitted to some wrongdoin.

Skipping to the last para:

What did the FBI do in response to Nikolas Cruz? Double down on Russia, of course. For which CNN’s Evan Pérez expressed his gratitude. Perez sure tapped into what Americans are thinking when he confessed to breathed a sigh of relief because ... the best of the FBI just caught dem Russian bots, although the agents missed Florida shooter Nikolas Cruz (Perez added as an after thought).

#4  Don't forget they also shoot the innocent when they can't make a case otherwise.

It seems that the FBI was politicized far further back in time than we thought. I bet some digging would bring some tasty tidbits about not profiling Muslims directives being in place prior to 9/11. Of course, we have Gorelick's wall to make it all neat and tidy and impossible to track international terrorists.

Methinks some of these known wolf mass shootings are deliberate. How many of them did we have during Zero's reign? Mass shootings by known entities followed by gun control campaigns? Even this one with the Cruz kid appears to have some odd timing attached to it...such as something to keep the One's malfeasance and FBI criminality off the front page.

Seems that as soon as Nunes's memo hit the presses, all you hear is crickets on the media and laughter on the right.

Not A Single Lawyer Known To Work For Mueller Is A Republican
[Daily Caller] None of the 16 publicly-confirmed lawyers on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team are registered Republicans, The Daily Caller News Foundation has found.

Voter registration records indicate that 13 of the attorneys are Democrats and three have no party affiliation. This is the first time the political affiliation of all 16 lawyers has been reported.

One of the lawyers, Zainab Ahmad, appears to have registered as a Republican at the age of 18, but has since changed her registration status to unaffiliated.

There is a 17th lawyer on the Russia probe, but this person’s identity and political affiliation remain unknown.

The special counsel’s office has previously disclosed that nine of the 16 lawyers have made a total of $62,000 in donations to Democrats, with one of those nine lawyers having also donated $2,750 to Republican candidates.

No Woman Has Constitutional Right to Abortion, Says West Virginia Senate
[PJ] Abortion-rights activists wearing red-and-white "handmaiden" robes weren’t enough to dissuade the West Virginia Senate from approving a measure that would make it clear no woman in the state has a constitutional right to receive an abortion.

Pro-life state Sen. Robert Karnes (R) said it’s hoped the proposed constitutional amendment would help reverse a 1993 Supreme Court decision that mandated West Virginia taxpayers pay for Medicaid-funded abortions.

West Virginia, according to the Guttmacher Institute, is one of 17 states that provide Medicaid-funded abortions, a policy that Karnes argues forces taxpayers to foot the bill for the procedures.

Karnes also told the Charleston Gazette-Mail that should the U.S. Supreme Court ever overturn Roe v. Wade the constitutional amendment would clear the way for West Virginia to ban all abortions, whether they are paid with taxpayer money or not.

"Today’s been quite a rollercoaster for women’s health advocates," said Margaret Chapman Pomponio, executive director of the abortion-rights group West Virginia Free.

"We were lambasted by this constitutional amendment, which is incredibly severe," Chapman Pomponio also said.

West Virginia Free isn’t giving up. The group used its Facebook page to rally the troops who support abortion rights to lobby their senators to defeat SJR 12.

The Diseased Streets of San Francisco
[LI] I had a wonderful time in Memphis, Tennessee, during my Presidents’ Day weekend stay. The people were charming, the barbecue was outstanding, and the Memphis Pyramid was a joy to behold.

There were a few things the streets of Memphis were lacking: Used needles and human excrement. For those treasures, you have to head over to my home state of California and the city of San Francisco.
How dirty is San Francisco? An NBC Bay Area Investigation reveals a dangerous mix of drug needles, garbage, and feces throughout downtown San Francisco. The Investigative Unit surveyed 153 blocks of the city ‐ the more than 20-mile stretch includes popular tourist spots like Union Square and major hotel chains. The area ‐ bordered by Van Ness Avenue, Market Street, Post Street and Grant Avenue ‐ is also home to City Hall, schools, playgrounds, and a police station.

As the Investigative Unit photographed nearly a dozen hypodermic needles scattered across one block, a group of preschool students happened to walk by on their way to an afternoon field trip to city hall.

"We see poop, we see pee, we see needles, and we see trash," said teacher Adelita Orellana. "Sometimes they ask what is it, and that’s a conversation that’s a little difficult to have with a 2-year old, but we just let them know that those things are full of germs, that they are dangerous, and they should never be touched."

The level of potentially infectious contamination rivals that of many third world countries.

The Liberal 'Listen to the Children' Anti-Gun Exploitation Machine Is Rolling
[Townhall] Remember the Whitney Houston song "The Greatest Love Of All"? The sappy 80s cover of the 70s George Benson hit starts:
I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be....
It was cheesy and typical of pop songs at the time, as most of the music that came out of the 80s was. Now it’s the basis for how liberals view unalienable rights explicitly protected in the Constitution.

The idea that we should "listen to the children" is a variation on a popular liberal mantra that whatever big government program they’re pushing is "for the children!" History is littered with the shards of the liberty we used to enjoy that were chipped away in the name of "the children."

But now the left has gone a step further and are insisting absolute moral authority be instilled in children and legislative action be taken to limit, yet again, the Second Amendment rights of innocent Americans because a monster did something awful at a school in Florida. It’s insane, but not surprising.

It’s an emotional play by the left (pretty much every left-wing activist group and media outlet is involved now) to prevent people from thinking logically about why anyone but the guilty should be punished for the actions of someone not them. People overwhelmed by emotions rarely, if ever, think or act logically.

#6  I can understand how some of these students are upset. They've just been shot at and seen their classmates die. But when they've had a chance to calm down it might be helpful if some of their teachers led them through a critical analysis of the facts and then tried to apply some logic.

Another point I'd like to make is that the main stream media coverage is ridiculous and counterproductive unless they want more shootings. Deranged individuals see the TV focusing on all this hysteria and they are inspired to get in on it.

I'd like to hear some of these media types demand to know when Trump is gonna fire Christopher Wray.

#7  I understand the children are upset, but I don't understand how they easily were led to blame the weapons and not the school which knew the kid was dangerous, or the FBI, which cleared him for background checks and ignored followup warnings.

The system failed them entirely, and they have all the right in the world to be angry about that, but instead they blame the tool used to do the killings instead. That is why kids can't vote and why I'm glad most college kids are too lazy to vote, instead of questioning authority they just follow the leader these days.

Caribbean-Latin America
'Exodus' from Puerto Rico: A visual guide
(CNN) Before Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico on September 20, there already was an unprecedented migration from the Caribbean island to the mainland United States -- at least in part because of the US commonwealth's financial crisis. After the storm, academics are starting to use words such as "exodus" and "stampede" to describe the massive outflow of people.

"This is the greatest migration ever from Puerto Rico since records have been taken," said Jorge Duany, a professor of anthropology at Florida International University.

Some reasons for the migration are obvious: Millions of Americans living in Puerto Rico were left without power or running water because of the Category 4 hurricane. Schools were closed. Jobs lost. There seemed to be little hope on the horizon. Puerto Ricans are American citizens and can move to the states without visas or other paperwork. And so, many did.

Yet the scope and shape of this diaspora remain mysterious.

So far, estimates of its size have been based on airline traveler data, which some academics consider unreliable because flying off the island doesn't necessarily mean you're going to migrate. Florida school enrollment numbers have added clarity, but they only cover students who showed up in the Sunshine State, not the entire nation.

Sen. Cruz rallies refinery workers for ethanol mandate change
[The Hill] Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Wednesday went to a massive Philadelphia oil refiner to rally its workers for changes to the federal ethanol mandate.

Philadelphia Energy Solutions, the East Coast’s largest refiner, filed for bankruptcy last month, blaming the costs of complying with the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Cruz wants to put a cap on the costs of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs), the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) tradeable credit system for complying with the mandate that refiners blend ethanol and other biofuels into the traditional fossil fuels.

"There is a win-win solution where we can fix RINs, save the jobs of the refinery workers and also allow corn farmers to sell more corn and get the government out of the way of the success of both of them," Cruz told the boisterous campaign-style rally in South Philadelphia.

#3  It began in 1919 with the addition of Tetraethyl lead and they've been buggering around with gasoline ever since.

In 1919, Dayton Metal Products Co. merged with General Motors. They formed a research division that set out to solve two problems: the need for high compression engines and the insufficient supply of fuel that would run them. On December 9, 1921 chemists led by Charles F. Kettering and his assistants Thomas Midgley and T.A. Boyd added Tetraethyl lead to the fuel in a laboratory engine. The ever present knock, caused by auto-ignition of fuel being compressed past its ignition temperature, was completely silenced. Most all automobiles at the time were subject to this engine knock so the research team was overjoyed. Over time, other manufacturers found that by adding lead to fuel they could significantly improve the octane rating of the gas. This allowed them to produce much cheaper grades of fuel and still maintain the needed octane ratings that a car’s engine required.

#6  A corn surplus might help the millions of people nearly at starvation put there by the diversion of corn to making alcohol for automobiles.

What a scam. Doing the math, you find that ethanol is BTU negative, meaning that the distillation process consumes more BTU's than the generated BTU's of the ethanol. The only place in the world where ethanol is not BTU negative is Brazil where they use the sugar cane pulp to fire the boilers...of course the EPA would have a fit if we tried that.

BTW, electricity is BTU negative when the energy source is natural gas.

U. Vermont Students Demand Administrators Resign Over Failure to Meet Diversity Demands
[Free Beacon] University of Vermont students and Black Lives Matter activists are demanding top administrators resign over the college's failure to meet student demands for diversity initiatives, including the installation of BLM flags on campus.
And I don't buy your ice cream.
Occupying the main administrative building Tuesday, some 200 students loosely organized under a group called NoNames for Justice chanted for the UVM president, provost, and vice provost for student affairs to step down for failing to be adequate allies for students of color.

Students were encouraged to "bring pans, instruments, anything that makes noise" and disrupt administrative work during the "Done with the Bullsh*t Rally."

NoNames is also demanding the permanent flying of multiple BLM flags on campus, including one at UVM Police headquarters, and for the Board of Trustees to officially endorse the BLM platform.

This builds on the group's previous list of demands, which sought university-wide diversity training and further training specifically for Greek life participants; an increase in LGBTQA staff and faculty of color; "renovation" of diversity courses; increased funding for "identity centers" and minority clubs; and the renaming of two campus buildings linked to a UVM professor who championed eugenics research in the 1930s.

Florida HS Survivor refuses to paticipate in CNN 'scripted' Town Hall
[Breitbart] Colton Haab, a student who survived last week’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, refused to participate in a CNN Town Hall on Wednesday night after he was told to ask a "scripted" question.

Haab, a junior at the high school, told Fort Lauderdale ABC affiliate WPLG that CNN invited him to speak at the televised town hall in nearby Sunrise, Florida, and that he and his parents had dressed up for the occasion.

But CNN then told Haab he would have to read a question that CNN had prepared for him:

Coulter: Amazing New Breakthrough to Reduce Mass Shootings
[Breitbart] As fun as it is to ridicule the FBI for devoting massive resources to chasing down Hillary Clinton’s oppo research while blowing off repeated, specific warnings about school shooter Nikolas Cruz, we’ve put a lot on the agency’s plate.

We’re hauling in nearly 2 million manifestly unvetted Third World immigrants every year, leading to a slew of FBI "Watch Lists" with a million names apiece. In 2015, Director James Comey said that there were ISIS investigations in all 50 states ‐ even Idaho and Alaska! And that’s just one terrorist organization.

Maybe the FBI brass would still be a bunch of incompetent, PC nincompoops if we weren’t dumping millions of psychotic and terrorist foreigners on the country. But even the most efficient organization would have trouble keeping track of the Nikolas Cruzes when our immigration policies require approximately one-third of the country to be constantly watching another third of the country.

Thanks to our Second Amendment, the United States has fewer mass shootings per capita than many other developed countries, including Norway, France, Switzerland, Finland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. (And 98 percent of our mass shootings occur in "gun-free zones.")

But imagine if we could cut our mass shootings in half?

Iraq
UN agency: Over 3.3 million Iraqis returned to their home regions till Jan.
Baghdad (Iraqinews.com) ‐ Over 3.3 million Iraqis have returned to their home regions, while nearly 2.5 million people continued to live in displacement till January 31, 2018, a Geneva-based UN migration agency reported on Wednesday.

In a report, a copy of which was obtained by Alfurat News, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said, "In January 2018, for the first time in more than three years, there were more returnees than internally displaced people."

The organization pointed out that about 125,000 returnees returned to their areas of origin in the four governorates of Nineveh, Salahuddin, Kirkuk and Anbar last month.

"In the last three years, Anbar governorate has received the largest number of returnees in the country, due to improved security, rehabilitation of services and rebuilding of infrastructures," the report read, adding that the return movement is sill ongoing.

The IOM highlighted that the three governorates reporting the biggest decreases in the number of internally displaced people were Nineveh, (- 6 percent), Baghdad (- 12 percent), and Anbar (- 17 percent). Together, they account for almost two-thirds of the nationwide decrease of displaced people.

"Due to lack of security, services and livelihood opportunities in west djinn-infested Mosul

, approximately 600 families returned in January to Haj Ali camp," the organization noted.

India-Pakistan
Women voters in Dir
[DAWN] AT last, it seems the wheels of change are turning in some of the most regressive parts of this country, though not without some firm prodding from the Election Commission of Pakistain. On Tuesday, over 1,000 women in Lower Dir exercised their right to vote, a sign that their disenfranchisement in the area may be coming to a long overdue end. The women cast their votes in a by-election to select candidates for 21 seats of local government councils; the earlier election had been cancelled by the ECP because no women had turned up to vote on that occasion. This time around, a substantial percentage of registered women voters exercised their right of franchise, even though the numbers varied widely from one polling station to another. Nevertheless, it is a beginning and that in itself is something to welcome.

Lower Dir is among those areas where the pretext of tradition has repeatedly, and disingenuously, been used to disenfranchise women. Earlier, local chapters of political parties would openly strike agreements to disallow women from choosing their representatives ‐ anathema to those who consider the public space, and the decisions made in it, as belonging to men alone. When rights activists and the ECP began to take notice, the agreements became more tacit, and were enforced subtly through social pressure. The recently enacted Elections Act, 2017 has given more teeth to the legal provisions against women’s disenfranchisement, and the recent by-poll proves that if there is sufficient political will, regressive traditions can be whittled away. Credit goes to the ECP ‐ and the politicians that have strengthened its hand ‐ for taking steps to signal to political parties that business as usual will no longer be tolerated. To further cement the participation of women in the electoral process, the 12pc gender disparity among male and female voters countrywide must be urgently addressed. It would also be a productive exercise to make gender-disaggregation of votes a regular practice so as to help discern voting patterns among women.

Nexus of drug dealers, lawyers, politicians unearthed during Chanesar Goth operation
[DAWN] KARACHI: A recent report by the police about an anti-drug operation in Chanesar Goth carries alarming details of connection between the law enforcement agency, its special and intelligence branches, excise department, and drug traders and smugglers protecting the illegal business in the city. The report, a copy of which is available with Dawn, also speaks of an "organised nexus of police, lawyers, notables and political representatives" behind the racket.

The document titled Operation Detail Report ‐ Chanesar Goth, PS Mehmoodabad actually contains day-to-day details of a four-month operation in the densely populated neighbourhood that led to "almost an end" to drug business in the area where it had been booming for the last three decades.

The success, the report said, was not achieved only through raids and sending over 150 drug peddlers behind bars but also taking action against dozens of coppers ranked from constable to DSP and severing the supply line, which was being operated by the excise officials.

Fun With Red-on-Red: Sanders Blames Clinton for Not Informing People About Russian Meddling: ‘They Had More Information About This Than We Did'
[FreeBeacon] Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) said Wednesday that he did not know at the time that Russian trolls promoted his 2016 presidential campaign and wondered why Hillary Clinton's team did not do more to tell voters about the extent of Russia's election interference.

In addition to their well-known efforts to boost Donald Trump, Russian trolls supported Sanders' presidential primary campaign, when he mounted a surprisingly strong but ultimately unsuccessful challenge to Clinton, according to special counsel Robert Mueller's indictment from last week.

Mueller's team indicted 13 Russian nationals and three companies for interfering in U.S. elections from 2014 to 2016.

In an interview on Vermont Public Radio, Sanders took issue with a listener's question that made it seem as if he knew about Russian bots promoting his candidacy at the time he was running.

"If he was aware that Russians were trying to promote him and divide Democrats against Mrs. Clinton, why did he not communicate this to his supporters?" the listener asked Sanders.

"This was not supporting me any more than they were supporting groups like Black Lives Matter that are fighting for social justice," Sanders said.

"I did not know that Russian bots were promoting my campaign," Sanders added. "Russians bots were not promoting my campaign. What we found out is that in April and May, it appeared that there were lots of strange things happening, attacking Hillary Clinton."

The interviewer asked Sanders why he and his campaign did not tell his supporters about Russian interference if they knew Moscow was meddling to sow divisions.

"I would say that the real question to be asked is what was the Clinton campaign‐they had more information about this than we did, and at this point, we were working with them," he responded.

"So did the Clinton campaign say, ’Don't talk about this?'" the interviewer asked.

"No, of course not, but who do you think would be raising that issue?" Sanders said.

"I could see a world in which Mrs. Clinton said, ’It's the Russians,' and Sanders supporters say, ’Oh, that's baloney,' but if Sanders says it, they say, ’OK,'" his interviewer said.

"We knew what we knew when we knew it, and that's about all that I can say," Sanders said.

Clinton pointed out in her book about her election loss, What Happened, that the Russians "made a particular effort to target voters who had supported Bernie Sanders in the primaries."

Afghanistan
Taliban Rebels Impose Taxes on Media Outlets in Restive Ghazni
[VOA News] In an effort to find new ways of financing their insurgency, Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
rebels have turned to local media for taxation and threatened news outlets in central Afghanistan with punitive measures if they refuse to give in to the Lion of Islam group’s demands.

The Taliban has recently demanded that media outlets in central Ghazni province disclose their revenue so the group can impose taxes.

"The Taliban contacted us by telephone at the start of the spring and demanded 200,000 Afghanis [$4,000], saying it was the tax they are now imposing on media throughout the country," Ahmad Farid Omari, managing editor of a local TV station, told VOA.

"We reported the threats to Afghan officials many times, but no action was taken. After several reminders and threats, we finally paid." Omari added.

Reporters without Borders, or RSF, a global watchdog group overseeing media freedom, also reported Monday that Taliban gunnies have been threatening to bar media organizations across the province from operating if they refuse to pay the money.

Afghan officials, however, have downplayed the issue, saying the practice is not widespread and that the government has taken the necessary measures to ensure the security of media organizations.

India-Pakistan
FATF reprieve
[DAWN] AN international organization has forced a reckoning inside Pakistain ‐ once again reminding this country that in an interconnected, interdependent world, pursuing policies that are seen as inimical to regional peace and stability will have damaging consequences. It appears Pakistain has won a three-month reprieve from the Financial Action Task Force, giving the state further time to comply with new anti-terrorism financial and legal requirements or risk being placed on a watch list. Security hawks inside Pakistain have interpreted the move in the FATF as an attempt by the US to heap further pressure on Pakistain in alliance with India and have argued that it further demonstrates bad faith on part of the US while underlining the need for Pakistain to build stronger relations with other regional and international powers that are more sympathetic to it. Certainly, Pakistain can and should pursue stronger ties with friendly and sympathetic countries, but the events in FATF need to be understood in their proper context.

Two issues need to be clarified. First and foremost, the Pak state has a responsibility to the Pak people to keep this country safe and secure. Fundamentally, that means the elimination from Pakistain of all non-state actors who embrace terrorism, militancy and extremism. Too often, the demand that Pakistain be cleansed of all bad boys, turbans and holy warriors is labelled as an externally driven agenda to weaken this country. But across the mainstream political spectrum and institutions that comprise the permanent state, there is public unanimity that the long fight against militancy is Pakistain’s own fight that must be waged and won for this state. It is time, then, for confusion and doubt to be cast aside and the logical implications of a militancy-, terrorism- and extremism-free Pakistain to be taken up: a zero-tolerance policy towards all variants of militancy, terrorism and extremism. Offshoots of terrorist groups and hiding behind charitable or welfare work should no longer be tolerated.

Second, it is necessary to understand that Pakistain is on the wrong side of a global consensus, not just a policy pursued by countries that it has uneasy ties with. There are no obvious circumstances in which countries such as China or Russia, for example, will in perpetuity avert their gaze from the presence in Pakistain of bad boy and terrorist elements that can destabilise the region. Robust regional competition does not mean regional powers will accept dangerous levels of regional conflict. Similarly, European countries that Pakistain has stable relations with and that may not always agree with US policy in this region are unlikely to shield Pakistain from common-sense global measures against terror financing and money laundering. The complicated relationship with the US should not blind Pakistain to the reality that international consensus, too, has not been favourable.

'Forgive us, because we sold them,' says African ambassador on possible slave ship find
Things you won't hear at today's U.S. schools/colleges/universities.
[AL.com] Hector Posset, the ambassador of the Republic of Benin, cracked the seal on a bottle of gin as we neared the wreck.

Travelling aboard my boat, we had come up the Spanish River, through its confluence with the Mobile River to 12 Mile Island, following the exact path that the Clotilda, the last American slave ship, used to smuggle the final 110 slaves brought in bondage from Africa to the United States.

Posset arrived in Mobile two days after news broke that a burnt ship the size and age of the Clotilda had been found in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, the swamp where the captain claimed he set it afire in 1860. In a previous article, I relied on historical evidence and analysis by archaeologists to suggest that the 19th century wreck I found might be the Clotilda, which was burned after it arrived here with a last load of slaves from Benin.

I had been asked to take the ambassador upriver to the site by Dr. Sharon Ingram, chair of the state-sponsored Alabama Benin Trade and Cooperative Forum, so that he might offer libations and perform traditional rituals practiced in his homeland.

Floating a few feet from the hull of what may be the Clotilda, the ambassador, wearing a necktie and pinstripe suit, shook water and then gin from two bottles over the wreck. In low, forceful tones, he spoke directly to the wreck in a Beninese dialect, his voice often colored with anger. Then, taking a slug from the gin bottle, the ambassador began spraying mouthfuls of liquor over the wreck. Tears streamed from behind his sunglasses.

The moment was a profound one for Posset. Not only does he hail from Benin, once known as the Kingdom of Dahomey, where the Clotilda captives were first captured by fellow Africans and then sold to the Americans, but Posset is actually a descendant of the nation's royal family. By the 1800s, the King of Dahomey was making about a quarter of a million dollars a year selling Africans to Europeans, Americans and Brazilians, according to historical records. To put that number in perspective, a quarter of a million dollars in 1860 would be worth roughly $50 million today. The prosperous kingdom was notorious as a hub of the slave trade, and home to the door of no return, through which millions of slaves, including perhaps the Clotilda captives, passed as they were transferred to slave ships for the middle passage.

Asked to explain the words he spoke over the wreck, Posset covered his eyes for a moment as he regained composure and stifled a sob.

"I am just begging them to forgive us, because we sold them. Our forefathers sold their brothers and sisters. I am not the person to talk to them. No! May their souls rest in peace, perfect peace. They should forgive us. They should," Posset said, wiping tears from his cheeks. "Qualified people will come and talk to them in due time. I feel so sad."
Continues.

"She started urging him to wage jihad through carrying out a security operation in Leb before eventually managing to convince him and to link him to a security official from the terrorist IS group," General Security said.

The detainee "suggested targeting Lebanese soldiers during his conversations with the aforementioned IS security official, telling him that he was seeing a Lebanese Army military bus carrying soldiers on daily basis and that he was willing to target it with a suicide operation."

The suspect then sent a picture of the bus to the IS official after monitoring its routes and timetable.

"The security official linked him to one of the group's bomb making experts, who communicated with him and provided him with instructions to create a suicide belt. The bomb making expert was about to provide him with the needed material to create the suicide belt but he was arrested before that," General Security added.

"Following interrogation, he was referred to the relevant judicial authorities and efforts are underway to arrest the rest of the culprits," it said.

Palestinian MP suffers brutal torture in Israeli jail, Hamas says
[PRESSTV] The Paleostinian Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,, has roundly criticized the Tel Aviv regime for subjecting a politician affiliated to the group to various forms of torture as he is being kept in Israeli jails without trial or charge.

Hamas, in a statement released on Wednesday, announced that 50-year-old Paleostinian Legislative Council member Abdel Nasser Abdel-Jawad has been behind bars at the high security Kishon (al-Jalameh) prison in northern West Bank for the past 50 days.

The statement added that the politician has been "subjected to severe torture, pressure and threats since his arrest."
Hamas noted that an Israeli military court has extended Abdel-Jawad's detention several times "without allowing him to meet his lawyer."

Abdel-Jawad was placed in durance vile
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
on January 1 as Israeli military forces stormed his home in Deir Ballut town, located 41 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Nablus.

He is a member of the Hamas-affiliated Change and Reform parliamentary bloc, and has previously spent over 16 years in Israeli prisons.

On January 22, Israeli military forces detained a politician linked to the Gazoo-based Hamas resistance movement along with more than a dozen other Paleostinians during separate raids across the occupied West Bank.

Local sources, who asked not to be named, said Israeli forces raided the central West Bank city of Salfit, broke into the home of Omar Abdul-Razeq and detained him.

Off-duty Prince George's County police officer shot and killed while helping woman next door
[BALTIMORESUN] An off-duty Prince George’s County police officer was shot and killed Wednesday morning while helping a woman next door in an incident of domestic violence, the department’s police chief said.

Cpl. Mujahid Ramzziddin, a 14-year veteran of the department, was fatally shot by a man with a shotgun who had a history of domestic violence, Chief Henry Stawinski said.

"Mujahid stood his ground to defend the life of the individual who had come to him for help," Stawinski said. "He saved her life by giving his own. I’m extraordinarily proud of him."

The gunman drove away and led police on a chase through Charles County and back into Prince George’s County before confronting officers. He was killed during the confrontation, Stawinski.

The gunman was identified as 37-year-old Glenn Tydell, who had three open warrants for assault, Prince George’s County police said. At an afternoon presser, the chief said he suspected the killer should not have been permitted to have a shotgun because of a violent history.

The chief said Ramzziddin went to help the neighbor who came to his home shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Soon he found himself facing the shotgun.

HRW demands probe into alleged killing of 20 civilians by Afghan Special Forces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Human Rights Watch (HRW) has demanded a probe into the alleged killing of at least 20 civilians in Afghan Special Forces fire in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

The Afghan government and US military should investigate reports that Afghan special forces summarily executed civilians in Kandahar province during military operations from January 31 to February 1, 2018, Human Rights Watch said in a statement.

According to HRW, citing official reports, on the evening of January 31, the Special Forces Unit of the National Directorate of Security

murderous Moslems in the Band-e Timor area of Maiwand district and the Reg area of Panjwai district.

Local residents told Human Rights Watch by phone that Afghan cops opened fire on men as they attempted to flee, killing about 50 Taliban fighters and at least 20 civilians.

One witness said, "when the airplanes came we fled. But as the people were running away the forces were shooting them."

"The alleged deaths of at least twenty civilians in Band-e Timor demands a prompt and impartial investigation," said Patricia Gossman, senior Afghanistan researcher. "Summarily executing people in jug, whether they are fighters or civilians, is a war crime. Only a full investigation can uncover all who may be responsible."

The Afghan government and security institutions have not commented regarding the report so far.

The term "takfiri" refers to Sunni Moslems who accuse other Moslems and members of other religions of being infidels, often as a justification for using violence against them.

"The army targeted and destroyed a communication center used by terrorists," the statement said.

The statement also said that army engineers had uncovered and diffused 41 IEDs, which were planted to target security forces during operations.

"The army's artillery targeted 179 sites for snuffies during the operations," the statement added.

El-Rifai’s statement is the 11th military communiqué on the sweeping counter-terrorism operation since it began on 9 February.

U.S. Military Denies Al-Shabaab Killed Its Soldier In Somalia
[RADIOSHABELLE] The United States military confirmed Tuesday no American soldier was killed or injured in southern Somalia as claimed by the Islamist turban group, al-Shabaab

The U.S. Africa Command (Africom), which oversees American troops on the continent, dismissed the report as incorrect that the holy warriors killed the American soldier on the outskirts of Kismayo

"We are aware of the reports, but they are incorrect. No U.S military was killed or injured in Somalia, as alleged in the reports," Africom spokesperson Samantha Reho told Xinhua.

The bully boyz through their radio station, Andalus had reported that the American soldier was killed in a shootout that took place outside Kismayo town on Tuesday morning.

The allegations came amid intensified security operation by the African Union

...85.4% Christian, according to the CIA World Factbook, so what’s their unacceptable excuse for such behaviour?
were arrested on Sunday after they attacked a man who was walking in the Hector-Berlioz alley at around 6 pm and bit off pieces his ear and lower lip, Le Gay Pareeien reports.

The victim was able to fight off the attackers, wounding one of them in the ankle, before police arrived a short time later and arrested the three Africans.
Castrate ‘em, hamstring ‘em on the left side, and send ‘em back to where they came from with just the clothes on their backs. And test them for HIV and other unpleasant diseases — the odds are high they just shared something.
Both the victim and the injured man were then taken to Montfermeil hospital.

Clichy-sous-Bois has become infamous as one of the most troubled no-go zones surrounding the French capital. The massive riots that occurred in 2005 began in the area when a pair of teenagers running from the police potted themselves by hiding in an electric power station.

Since then, Clichy-sous-Bois has been associated with further riots, as was the case last year, and with a connection to the rising tide of radical Islamic extremism in La Belle France.

President Sisi says dream of turning Egypt into regional energy hub is becoming reality
[AlAhram] Sisi commented on the controversial $15 billion gas deal brokered between Egyptian and Israeli gas companies, saying that Egypt has 'nothing to hide' about the agreement.

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah said on Tuesday that the dream to turn Egypt into a regional energy hub is becoming a reality, referring to a number of gas deals recently signed in the country.
The president made the comments while opening a number of investor service centres across the country.

El-Sisi commented on the controversial $15 billion gas deal brokered between two Israeli companies and private Egyptian company Dolphinus, saying that Egypt has "nothing to hide about this deal."

"Egypt is now one of the few countries in the Mediterranean region that owns facilities fully capable of providing all oil-related services," El-Sisi said, adding that Egypt will use these facilities to liquefy the imported gas for later export or for use in industry.

El-Sisi said that Egypt has developed these facilities before other countries in the region like in Leb, Israel, Cyprus and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, which will allow Egypt to benefit by having oil from Mediterranean countries liquefied in Egypt.

"We had to take advantage of this opportunity to attract Cypriot, Lebanese and Israeli gas in preparation for liquefaction and export," he said.

"We scored a goal," El-Sisi said in Egyptian colloquial slang, referring to the recent gas deals and other achievements in the gas sector, though he stressed that these agreements are reached by the private sector and not the state.

Mosul clean up continues: 2 turbans bound, 90 murdered bodies unburied

Two Islamic State members arrested in security operation in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Interior Ministry has announced arresting two Islamic State members in an operation in Mosul city.

“The Rapid Response troops in Nineveh managed to arrest two Islamic State members,” Maj. Gen. Saad Maan, the ministry spokesperson, said in a statement on Wednesday. “The militants were arrested in al-Quds and al-Ta’meem districts in western Mosul.”

On Tuesday, the ministry said seven militants were arrested during operations launched in several regions across Mosul. One of them was previously sentenced to life in absentia.

Relics of 90 victims found in mass grave, south of Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi security troops have run into a mass grave, including relics of tens of victims who are still unidentified, a police source said on Wednesday.

“Security troops in Mosul received reports from citizens over locating a mass grave in al-Haj village in Qayyarah town, south of Mosul,” the source from Nineveh police told the London-based Al-Arab newspaper. “Special forces moved to the grave location and ensured its presence there.”

Preliminary information indicated that the victims were killed two years ago.

“Relics of 90 persons were taken out,” the source added. “The bodies were just skeletons with clothes on them. There were shots on the skulls of most of the bodies, which confirms that the victims were killed by the perpetrators from close locations.”

“A committee from Health Minister reached the grave location and began transferring the relics to the forensic medicine department to recognize their identities and hand them over to their families,” the source added.

The grave, according to the source, “was completely cordoned to prevent the citizens approaching. Recovering the relics would take several days due to shortage in specialized personnel at the ministry.”

Gaza to pump sewage straight into sea as crisis worsens
Living the metaphor — it looks like they’ve given up on corralling it in poo ponds.
[Yahoo] Municipalities in Gazoo announced Wednesday they will pump sewage straight into the sea from the Paleostinian coastal enclave due to fuel shortages and the desperate humanitarian situation in the strip.

"The beaches of the Gazoo Strip will be completely closed and sewage will be pumped into the sea because the municipalities are unable to provide fuel" for treatment plants, said Nizar Hejazi, head of the Gazoo City municipality.

Hejazi also noted "the policy of collective punishment (which) continues to be imposed on the population," in a statement representing municipalities across the strip.

"We announce a state of emergency in the cities and municipalities of the Gazoo Strip," Hejazi said, noting services would be cut by as much as 50 percent.

On the Syria-Iraq border: smugglers catch a bad break, ISIS turbans catch a worse one

Islamic State kills twenty Iraqi smugglers near borders with Syria
Smuggling is a risky business, though clearly it is easier to get out past the Iraqi border guards than it is to get back past the remnants of ISIS.
Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State members have killed twenty residents from Anbar near the Iraqi-Syrian borders, west of the province, a security source was quoted saying.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source said, “twenty smugglers from Anbar were trapped by IS members at the Syrian side from the borders with Iraq.”

The smugglers, according to the source, who preferred anonymity, “were drivers of trucks. The militants killed them and stole their trucks.”

“The smugglers were intending to cross from Syria to Iraq,” the source added.

The Iraqi-Syrian borders are under the control of joint troops of military and border guards.

Paramilitary troops kill suicide attackers as IS attack foiled near borders with Syria

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) The pro-government paramilitary services have repulsed an Islamic State attack, killing suicide attackers as they infiltrated from Syria to Iraq.

In a statement, the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said on Wednesday that “troops deployed on Iraqi-Syrian borders, west of Mosul, thwarted an infiltration attempt by Islamic State suicide attackers who tried to sneak into Iraq.”

The attackers, according to the statement, were all killed.

US oil giant Chevron restarts drilling in Kurdistan Region
[Rudaw] ERBIL, Kurdistan Region ‐ US-based oil firm Chevron announced on Monday it has resumed drilling in the Kurdistan Region having suspended operations in mid-October following the independence referendum.

"Chevron can confirm that it has resumed its activities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and we have restarted drilling operations at our Sarta 3 well," Chevron spokeswoman Sally Jones said in a statement, Rooters reports.

The block is operated by Chevron that has an 80 percent interest in the Sarta production-sharing contract (PSC). Sarta is just north of Erbil, the capital city of the Kurdistan Region.

The company also operates at the Qara Dagh field with an 80 percent PSC, about 28 kilometers south of the historic provincial capital city of Sulaimani. The two blocks cover a combined area of 1,129 square kilometers.

The firm had drilled a new well at its Sarta block in September but halted operations in the Kurdistan Region in mid-October 2017 after Baghdad moved Iraqi forces and Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitaries into oil-rich Kirkuk and other disputed areas claimed by Erbil and Baghdad.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) says its revenues have been slashed by almost half since the loss of Kirkuk oil production.

Chevron began operating in the Kurdistan Region in 2012. Shortly thereafter, it was blacklisted by the Iraqi government for dealing directly with the KRG.

Oil disputes and independent exports from the Kurdistan Region have been at the heart of disagreements between Erbil and Baghdad.

The Iraqi government announced earlier in February it will not cover the gross payments due to oil companies that have signed agreements with the Kurdistan Region, but will require new contracts signed with the central government.

The KRG says it is ready to resolve issues with Baghdad within the framework of the Iraqi constitution.

Malaysia foils bid to set up Abu Sayyaf cell in Sabah
[Reuters] Malaysian police nabbed ten people on suspicion of aiding the movement of militants between Sabah and the southern Philippines. This is the second batch of arrests this year. The ten suspects were arrested in three separate raids between January 25 and February 6, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said in a statement today.

Among the suspects is a 27-year-old Filipino believed to be a senior Abu Sayyaf leader, and another Filipino thought to have arranged passage of foreign nationals to the southern Philippines to join the Islamic State. Fuzi said, "Preliminary information gleaned from the 10 suspects revealed an attempt by the Abu Sayyaf group to establish a cell in Sabah."

Fuzi added that the Abu Sayyaf had intended to bring in IS fighters from Southeast Asia to the southern Philippines for military training. He said, "The same cell members would then be used to launch attacks on Sabah in the future."

Six Muslim Brotherhood fugitives arrested at ranch owned by Abdel-Moneim Abul-Futouh: Ministry
[AlAhram] The Egyptian Ministry of Interior said on Wednesday that six members of the banned Moslem Brüderbund have been jugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
at a ranch in Beheira governorate owned by detained politician and former presidential candidate Abdel-Moneim Abul-Futouh.

The ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects, who were wanted in several terrorism-related cases, were found in possession of two rifles.

Security forces are still searching for two other Brotherhood members who gave refuge to the six runaways at the ranch on Abul-Fotouh’s orders, according to the statement.

Abul-Fotouh, who is also the head of the Strong Egypt Party, was arrested last week for plotting with members of the Brotherhood to destabilise the country ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.

On Tuesday, a Cairo criminal court placed Abul-Fotouh on the terrorism list for his connection to the Moslem Brüderbund, which was designated a terrorist group in 2013.

Abul-Fotouh was arrested at his home in New Cairo hours after he returned from a visit to London, where he gave an interview to the Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
i-based al-Jazeera channel criticising government policies.

The interior ministry says Abul-Fotouh held secret meetings with leaders of the international Moslem Brüderbund organization in London earlier this month to carry out a plot to spark unrest and instability in the country.

Shortly after his arrest, the High State Security Prosecution ordered Abul-Fotouh’s detention for 15 days pending investigations into charges including "publishing and broadcasting false news that harms national interests" and leading an illegal group that aims to topple the regime and disrupt public order.

Internet sleuth confirms Seth Rich was the WikiLeaks informer. Offered proof to Mueller. Not interested. Does not fit the Russian collusion narrative
[PowderedWigSociety] Robert Mueller continues to chase his tail looking for evidence of Trump/Russia collusion, despite there being zero evidence.

There is evidence, however, that the Russians did NOT hack Hitlery’s or the DNC’s email, that the hack was no hack at all, but, rather, an inside job, which is what many suspected all along, and that the hacker was DNC employee Seth Rich who was shot twice in the back and murdered in Washington but not before he could transfer the stolen emails to Julian Assange.

Evidence of Rich being the hacker instead of shady Russians, as the Democrats want you to believe, is in the hands of Kiwi internet sleuth Kim Dotcom, who not only knows of Rich’s leak to Assange, but was involved in the leak himself.

Here is the really strange part of the story, or not so strange if you have followed it closely, in which case you can see clearly what is going on ‐ Dotcom offered his evidence that Rich was the WikiLeaks informant to Robert Mueller.... TWICE! But, both times Mueller refused to even consider it.

Why? Obviously, because it would destroy the Russian hacking narrative and end the witch hunt, which Democrats need desperately to stay alive if they are to have a prayer of gaining a congressional majority in November to ensure their dream of impeaching President Trump.

This proves that Mueller is not objective, impartial, or nonpartisan. He is a political tool of the Democrat Party, searching frantically for any evidence of Donald Trump being within ten miles of any Russian during the 2016 presidential campaign.

President Trump is all over this, hinting Dotcom’s involvement in a Sunday morning tweet. The "400 pound genius" President Trump alludes to is an obvious reference to Dotcom, who confirms in a follow-up tweet that the theft of the sensitive Democrat emails was NOT the work of Russians and that he has offered his evidence to Mueller who refused it, then correcting the president’s weight guess, tweeting "360 pounds!"
Continues with Tweetie thingies.

Iraq to start electricity imports from Kuwait: ministry
Reconnecting to the region.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq will soon start importing electricity from Kuwait through power pylons, a front man of the Iraqi electricity ministry was quoted saying on Wednesday.

Musaab al-Madras was quoted saying in a press statement that "the ministry signed with the Kuwaiti side a memorandum of understanding for the import of electricity from Kuwait during a visit by a Kuwaiti delegation to Basra province".

He added that "during the next period, power pylons will extend along 50 kilometers to import more than 200 megawatts for the national grid".

He noted that Iraq continues to import electricity from Iran through four lines that deliver upto 1200 megawatts.

He also pointed that, despite the absence of power pylons between Iraq and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the ministry is still considering "ad hoc solutions to transfer power between both countries", adding that "electricity linkage with Saudi Arabia could be executed on the long run".

Almost 50 Russian contractors died at Deir Ezzor
By badanov

I have been disputing the number of casualties ever since I heard about the 600 dead number two weeks ago. The Russian Ministry of Foreign affairs have been clinging to the 11 dead, the Russian business news outlet, Kommersant said it was 15 dead.

We can assume from the casualty counts that the number of wounded was about three times that for a total casualty count, relying on official counts, of 45 to 50.

Now, from unofficial Russian sources, which are sometimes more accurate than official sources, we have a casualty count of 122 total including dead and wounded. This count I believe.

Russian blogger Chervonets Andryukha said his casualty count, taken from a variety of sources stands at 122: 50 dead and about 72 wounded.

According to Chervonets Andryukha, the battle was at least two reinforced battalions in strength (about 600 effectives divided into three battle groups) not including a tank company (about 10 to 15 tanks, likely T-72s) and a light artillery battalion of mortars.

The composition of the battle group included Syrian forces, local tribes, ISIS Hunters, and three Russian manned assault squads (PMC Wagner) .

Russian commanders at the base at Khmeimim knew nothing about the plans or the attack. The objective was at Hsham, near Deir Ezzor, at a petroleum plant named al-Isba.

As the battlegroup advanced, they were met with a light Kurd covering party, who exchanged fire before retreating.

Mistaking the Kurd tactic, the commanders accelerated their advance, thinking the way to their objective was clear.

Apparently, going by Chervonets Andryukha's description, the battlegroup advanced along a broad front. When the Kurds retreated, two flanking rifle companies begin to shift off away from the main thrust. When the air attack began in earnest, the flanking companies fled the area in disorder, leaving the Russian manned fifth company alone to take the brunt of the air attack.

The air attack was stopped shortly after the Russian commanders in Khmeimim found out about it. By then the battle was over.

The other losses were levies from local Arab tribes and a Carpathian unit, a total of 100.

It is worth noting that the inflated numbers came mostly from Ukrainian and Georgian security services, which can include journalists.

The difference between Chervonets Andryukha's and official numbers may be, according to Chervonets Andryukha, contractors traveling on non-Russian, non CIS passports.

Pakistan's top court rules ousted premier Sharif cannot lead his party
[PRESSTV] Pakistain's Supreme Court has ruled a disqualified politician cannot lead a political party, ordering the removal of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
as head of the country’s ruling party.

In the court order, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Wednesday directed the Election Commission of Pakistain to remove Sharif as head of the Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) from all relevant records.

"The Election Commission is directed to remove name of Nawaz Sharif as president of Pakistain Moslem League Nawaz (PML-N) from all official records," the chief justice said.

The order overturns a change in the law by Sharif's PML-N that allowed the former premier to lead the party despite being legally banned from holding public office.

The ruling comes months after the ruling PML-N party passed a law allowing Sharif to remain at the helm despite being removed from the premiership over graft allegations and for concealing financial assets last July.

The decision will likely force Sharif to step down as president of the PML-N and possibly end his career in politics.

International Money Laundering Via Author Impersonation on Amazon?
[KrebsOnSecurity] Patrick Reames had no idea why Amazon.com sent him a 1099 form saying he’d made almost $24,000 selling books via Createspace, the company’s on-demand publishing arm. That is, until he searched the site for his name and discovered someone has been using it to peddle a $555 book that’s full of nothing but gibberish.

Reames is a credited author on Amazon by way of several commodity industry books, although none of them made anywhere near the amount Amazon is reporting to the Internal Revenue Service. Nor does he have a personal account with Createspace.

But that didn’t stop someone from publishing a “novel” under his name. That word is in quotations because the publication appears to be little more than computer-generated text, almost like the gibberish one might find in a spam email.

US intel calls Duterte threat to democracy in Asia
[Washington Times] Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who is accused of ordering hundreds of extrajudicial killings in the government's war on drugs, is a threat to democracy in the Asia-Pacific region, U.S. intelligence officials say. Aside from Duterte’s counternarcotics campaign, Malacanang also instituted martial law in the country for the first time since the mid-1970s.

Such actions have drawn concern from the intelligence community, who labelled Duterte’s government as a destabilizing force in the Pacific, where democratic governments allied with Washington are already coming under threat from China and its proxies in the region.

“Duterte has suggested he could suspend the constitution, declare a ‘revolutionary government,’ and impose nationwide martial law,” according to an annual report to Congress issued by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence earlier this month.

On Wednesday, Philippine officials dismissed such claims of autocratic tendencies. “He adheres to the rule of law and remains loyal to the constitution,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

Arabia
Is Sweden complicit in Saudi war on Yemen?
[PRESSTV] Last year, Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström told a conference that the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
was one that "has far too long been neglected and forgotten by the global community" and what Yemeni people were going through was "difficult to imagine."

It is such statements that, besides leading various international peace efforts to help resolve major conflicts across the globe, including Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's deadly war on Yemen, have helped Sweden establish the image of a peace-loving country that cares for others.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
a steady rise in the Scandinavian country's weapons business over the past years, including its major dealings with repressive Arab regimes in the Persian Gulf region, has cast doubt on Stockholm's true intentions.

In fact the rise has been so fast that according to official data by the US government, Sweden is now the world's third largest weapons producer per capita, closely following Russia and Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
while overtaking La Belle France, Britannia and the US.

At the heart of Sweden's weapons industry is Saab, a company that sold over $2.7 billion worth of weapons in 2016 alone, making its way into the world's top 30 arms producing companies according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

Over the recent years, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have become some of the main customers for Swedish-made weapons.

Somali Man Discussed Killing The Queen Found Guilty Of Trying To Join ISIL
[RADIOSHABELLE] A delivery driver who discussed attacks on the Queen and Tottenham Hotspur fans has been found guilty of attempting to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terror group.

Somalian Aweys Shikhey, 38, led a double life and dreamed of travelling to take part in violent jihad after moving to Tottenham, north London.

The IS fan tried to raise money for his trip by applying for various loans, securing £10,000 from Barclays for a "wedding", jurors were told.

He borrowed more money from his boss on the pretext of visiting his two wives and children in Holland and Kenya, the court heard.

All the while he had been in regular contact with a woman in Norway who applied to IS to become a jihadi bride, the Old Bailey heard.

Shikhey was jugged
You have the right to remain silent...
at Stansted airport in May last year before boarding a flight to Istanbul, with an onward route planned into IS-held territory.

His terrorist mindset was revealed in encrypted chat on Threema and Telegram with a fellow Somalian in Kenya.

Abdirahman Idris Hassan’s computer had been examined after he was arrested for alleged terrorism offences in September 2016.

The pair talked about killing the then prime minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
and "the old woman Elizabeth", in apparent reference to the Queen.

Shikhey told Hassan three or five people were needed to "carry out a bloody attack" and it would be best to find AK47s and other automatic weapons.

In reference to White Hart Lane, home to Tottenham Hotspur football club, he added: "They could have been taken to Stamford Hill and when people leave from their game."

The defendant also told Hassan there were "a lot of Jews" in the area of Stamford Hill in north London and said it was "good to shoot them live", the court heard.

Shikhey, who has a Dutch passport, denied preparing terrorist acts on or before May 23 last year but declined to give evidence in his defence.

A jury at the Old Bailey deliberated for a day to find him guilty.

Judge Martin Edmunds QC said the defendant faced a "substantial" prison term.

The Daily Mail has two photos of the miscreant.

Africa North
Mali Blast Kills Two French Soldiers
[AnNahar] Two soldiers from La Belle France's counter-terrorism force in West Africa were killed and another was hurt Wednesday when their vehicle struck a mine in northeast Mali.

The French army said the attack took place near Mali's borders with Niger and Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, a bastion of jihadist activity where three French soldiers were maimed in an attack last month.

Their deaths brought to 12 the number of French soldiers killed since the start of Operation Barkhane, which was launched more than three years ago to quell jihadist activity in the former French colony of Mali and in neighboring countries.

The soldiers were from a cavalry regiment based in Valence in southeastern La Belle France, President Emmanuel Macron's office said in a statement.

Their armored vehicle hit the mine on the road between the town of Ansongo on the Niger river and Menaka, a bigger town about 200 kilometers to the east.

Macron sent condolences to the soldiers' families and said La Belle France was inflicting "severe blows" on Death Eaters behind a string of attacks and kidnappings in recent years, some targeting Westerners.

The attack came after the Malian army said it had "inflicted heavy losses on the terrorists" in the Ansongo area on Tuesday.

The military said it found the bodies of two jihadists at the site of the festivities and killed "other terrorists" in mop-up operations. Eight soldiers and a civilian were maimed in the operation, it said.

La Belle France intervened militarily in Mali in 2013 to help government forces drive al-Qaeda-linked jihadists out of the north.

Within two weeks the Sunni Lions of Islam had been flushed out of most urban areas but they continue to mount attacks from desert bases and expand into new territories.

Around 4,000 French troops are deployed under Operation Barkhane, alongside the UN's 12,000-strong MINUSMA peacekeeping operation in Mali.

La Belle France hopes a new five-country African force will progressively shoulder more of the counter-terrorism effort.

Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger will contribute troops to the force, which is expected to number 5,000 and become fully operational by mid-2018.

Turkey says whoever helps Kurd militia in Syria is 'legitimate target'
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Wednesday said it would consider a "legitimate target" any group that comes to the aid of Kurdish militia in Afrin in northern Syria.

The threat from presidential front man Ibrahim Kalin came a day after Syrian pro-regime forces entered Afrin, only to come under fire from Ottoman Turkish forces.

Last month Ankara launched a cross-border air and ground offensive backing Syrian rebels against the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) in Afrin.

Turkey has called for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's ouster and supported opposition fighters throughout the seven-year conflict.

Kalin said Ankara does not have any official contact with Damascus, but that if necessary, Turkish and Syrian intelligence could enter into "direct or indirect" contact.
My dear Turkish spokesman, if necessary American or Israeli intelligence could ring the unlisted cell phone President Erdogan uses only to call his Jewish mistress. Contact doesn’t get more direct than that.

Over 100 schoolgirls missing after Boko Haram raid on Nigerian village
For their own use and for sale, in the traditional Muslim way.
[PRESSTV] A total of 111 schoolgirls are missing after Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
bandidos Lions of Islam attacked Dapchi village in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, police say.

"Eight hundred and fifteen students returned to the school and were visibly seen, out of 926 in the school," the police minister of Yobe state, Abdulmaliki Sumonu, told news hounds on Wednesday. "The rest are missing. No case of abduction has so far been established."

Earlier in the day, two sources said that a roll-call at the girls' school in the village on Tuesday showed that 91 students were absent.

"I saw girls crying and wailing in three Tata vehicles and they were crying for help," a witness from the nearby village of Gumsa, who was reportedly forced to show the Death Eaters the way out of the area and then released, told Rooters.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, the fiddler suddenly struck a sour note. The dancing stopped abruptly. Everyone looked at Bob...
seven parents said their daughters were among the missing.

"I hope my daughter is not one of those kidnapped as we learned that over ninety of them were not seen after going through their register book," one parent said.

The two sources, several parents and other local witnesses spoke on condition of anonymity as Nigerian security and government officials warned them not to disclose the disappearance.

Eyewitnesses said on Monday that a convoy of pickup trucks belonging to Boko Haram descended on Dapchi in the Bursari area of Yobe state around 6 p.m. (1700 GMT). The bandidos Lions of Islam went directly to the Girls Science Secondary School, and began shooting sporadically, forcing students and teachers to flee, according to the witnesses.

Attorney For FBI Informant Demands DOJ Open Investigation Into Falsified Leaks to Media
[Gateway Pundit] The lawyer representing a former FBI informant demanded Wednesday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions open an investigation into unauthorized and falsified leaks to the media by "anonymous federal officials." The informant’s lawyer said the leakers disparaged her client in an effort to silence him from providing testimony to Congress regarding his role in exposing Russia’s long-term strategy to dominate the global uranium market and how Moscow achieved its goal in 2010 of obtaining roughly 20 percent of the U.S. uranium mining industry, according to a letter delivered to the DOJ.

Victoria Toensing
...former Reagan Justice Department official, former chief counsel of the Senate intelligence committee, and all around smart cookie...
is the attorney for William Douglas Campbell, the FBI informant who is providing Congress with troves of documentation he gathered, saved and turned over to the FBI during the nearly six years he worked as an undercover FBI asset when he was a contractor in Russia’s nuclear and energy field. She has also asked Sessions to investigate a December 15 briefing given by "senior officials" to the Senate Judiciary and House Intelligence and Oversight committees "with the same false information that was leaked anonymously to the media and later refuted by the Justice Department," as stated in her letter.

"The leaks were not only illegal but they were also false, intended to attack the credibility of Mr. Campbell," said Toensing, referring to the leaks by ’federal officials’ to the media. She attached a 38-page appendix of documentation disproving the leaks.

Leaking false information is not that felony since being false it can hardly be classified.
since FBI officials are allowed to lie in attempts to incriminate their victims, they are probably allowed to lie to the press. I believe Ms. Miller, a journalist, claimed that Fitzgerald, who had her thrown in jail for several months lied to her and got her to give incorrect testimony in the Libby case. Fitzgerald was never investigated for this.
However, it is time that the FBI and other government officials should be required to reveal their all their lies to defendants as potentially exculpatory material in any trials. This was recently ordered by the judge in the Flynn trial even though he had already pleaded guilty.

Europe
Uzbek defendant says attack meant to stop Sweden from fighting IS
[RFE/RL] A rejected Uzbek asylum seeker who has admitted to a truck attack that killed five people in Stockholm told a court that his aim was to force Sweden to end its fight against the Islamic State. At a hearing at his trial on February 20, defendant Rakhmat Akilov said, "I wanted Sweden to stop sending soldiers to war zones where the Islamic State is being attacked."

Akilov is accused of terrorism for stealing a delivery truck on April 7, 2017, and plowing into pedestrians on a busy shopping street. The attack killed three Swedes, including an 11-year-old girl, as well as a British man and a Belgian woman. Ten other people were wounded.

Akilov, who spoke in Russian through an interpreter, said he also wanted Sweden "to stop sending gigantic sums of money to combat the caliphate."

He claimed he was "not inspired" by any specific attack, "as there were very many," but was aware of similar attacks in Berlin, London, and Nice. Akilov also saw statements and calls for attacks made on Internet sites used by IS, he told the court.

Akilov, whose Swedish asylum application was turned down in 2016, had sworn allegiance to IS on the eve of his assault. Sweden has some 70 military personnel based mainly in northern Iraq to provide training as part of the coalition against IS.

The prosecution has requested a life sentence for Akilov, who police say confessed to the attack and told them he wanted to run down infidels. Defense lawyer Johan Eriksson told the Stockholm district court hearing, "Akilov took the truck...and drove it the way the prosecutor described. He killed five people and physically injured 10."

Eriksson said in January that his client had not expected to survive the attack.

An investigation found that Akilov was in direct contact with alleged IS militants from Tajikistan before, during, and after the Stockholm attack. Akilov, a construction worker and an ethnic Tajik from Uzbekistan, was arrested a few hours after the Stockholm attack, and police said he confessed the next day.

During the court proceedings on February 13, they played a video where Akilov swore allegiance to IS and presented several conversations on WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, and Zello that were found on his phone. Of the messages, prosecutor Hans Ihrman said 16 were "interesting," especially those on a Zello chat forum where Akilov spoke to contacts using the pseudonyms Muovia Regari, Abu Aisha, Muhammad, and Abu Fotima, among others.

According to the prosecutor, Akilov wrote to one of his contacts on January 19, 2017, "I'm working and saving money and God willing I will carry out the martyr operation."

He also wrote a list of potential targets to one contact, including a synagogue, a ferry transporting "sinners," and a nightclub. "There are plenty of infidels here," he wrote.

Arabia
Marib: a former Al Qaeda bastion turned booming city
[The National] The clang and thump of jackhammers and excavators fills the streets of Marib, an oil-rich Yemeni boomtown once accustomed to the sounds of conflict, now an oasis of stability in a country embroiled in a civil war.

Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
is convulsed by the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with rampant disease, famine and a ruinous war pitting supporters of president Abdrabu Mansur Hadi against Iran-aligned Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels.

But the fall of Yemen has coincided with the rise of Marib, once seen as an Al Qaeda bastion, which has been spared much of the misery owing to its oil and gas reserves, proximity to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and rare tribal cohesion that has helped repel Houthi incursions.

"We have managed to push the war far away from Marib," said provincial governor Sultan Al Arada. "Marib is untouchable."

The border city is now Yemen's most thriving industrial hub, thanks in part to an influx of hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people, among them entrepreneurs, doctors and Yemen's elite that is driving up investments and real estate prices.

Hundreds of new businesses have come up, ranging from eateries to water bottling plants.

Jobs in Marib offer salaries, a novelty to legions of employed youths in a country with chronic joblessness.

"The spectacular rise of Marib has come not despite the conflict, but because of it," Farea Al Moslemi, a Yemen expert at Chatham House think tank based in London.

"Marib has gained from the chaos surrounding it."

Its university is expanding and businessmen who once fled the war are slowly returning.

That includes Obaid Zubaiyen, head of a family-run trade and construction enterprise with interests across the Arabian Gulf, who fled Yemen in 2011 amid increasing turmoil.

"The family is back because Marib means opportunity," said Misbah Ohag, a group manager, showing a blueprint of a planned multimillion dollar project of villas, apartments and malls.

Governor Arada plans an international airport and aims to make Marib, home to temple ruins from the ancient Sabaean kingdom, a magnet for tourists.

But some scars of the war rumbling on outside Marib are still visible inside the province.

At a rehabilitation centre for child soldiers, drawings sketched by the youngsters are telling.

One showed a grenade, a tank, a helicopter gunship and crimson splashes of blood.

"They blew up my school," read the caption.

Houthi rebels have planted thousands of landmines around Marib and the mangled wreckage of cars litter its mountainous border.

Southeast Asia
‘No direct link’ between Daesh leaders and Indonesian militants, says terror expert
[ARABNEWS] There are no direct links between Indonesian Lions of Islam and the leadership of ISIS in Syria, an Indonesian terrorism expert said on Tuesday.

Taufik Andrie, executive director of the Institute for International Peace Building in Jakarta, was speaking during a meeting about changes in the global terrorism network and the impact those changes have had on extremism in Indonesia.

He said that attacks by self-proclaimed ISIS-affiliated Lions of Islam in Indonesia "were not always related to ISIS, or even to Bahrun Naim or Aman Abdurrahman," referencing an Indonesian bad boy believed to be fighting for ISIS in Syria and a convicted radical holy man who led a ISIS-affiliated network from his prison cell.

"There has never been a direct link between ISIS in Syria with those who claimed to be affiliated with the group here," Andrie said. "Most of those so-called acknowledgements were self-proclaimed.

"If we follow the money trail, there has been little financial support coming in from Syria to Indonesia for terrorism activities," he told Arab News.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
Andrie said that remnants of the Southeast Asian bad boy network Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) ‐ outlawed in Indonesia since 2008 ‐ still remain, with a clear organizational structure and key figures implementing their strategies.

Nasir Abbas, a former bad boy who is now known as a de-radicalization activist, said the group now operates anonymously, but still works toward the same goals using a mixture of preaching and violence.

"They are still on the move, but they don’t put a name on their organization. They use a strategy, unlike other Lions of Islam who think that they are waging war by being lone wolves," said Abbas, adding that other bad boy groups were now emulating JI by putting a solid structure in place.

"They would try to settle in a small region and strengthen their base, preaching to the locals about their intention to establish a caliphate and making the locals believe in their propaganda," he explained.

Abbas said the conflict-torn southern Philippines remains the go-to destination for Southeast Asian Lions of Islam returning to the region after joining ISIS in the Middle East. He claimed they pass through the porous sea and land borders from Indonesia’s North Kalimantan province to Malaysia’s Sabah state before entering the Philippines in Basilan
...Basilan is a rugged, jungle-covered island in the southern Philippines. It is a known stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf, bandidos, and maybe even orcs. Most people with any sense travel with armed escorts...
"It’s the preferred trail because there is a chain of small islands in the Sulu Sea and there are a lot of separatist groups there, which means there is an abundant supply of guns and ammunition," he said.

Nava Nuraniyah, an analyst at the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict (IPAC) in Jakarta, said there has been little change in the role of women in krazed killer groups, particularly in Indonesian and Filipino organizations.

"Very few of them have become combatants. When they do, the reason is usually self-empowerment," she told Arab News. "But most of them play the role of financier, treasurer and recruiter. They manage the money because they are housewives who are also entrepreneurs," she explained.

Four Thai troops hurt in Narathiwat blast
[Bangkok Post] Four Thai soldiers in an engineering battalion were hurt in a bomb in Narathiwat province while delivering food supplies to a road repair unit early Sunday afternoon. Chanae district police spokesman Adipong Promnoo said the incident happened on a road in tambon Chanae.

The bomb was detonated as a truck was carrying the four soldiers and food supplies to Ban Sakai, where an engineering unit was repairing the road. The blast caused the pick-up to flip over and land upside down.

An ordnance disposal team that examined the scene said the blast came from a bomb made of a 25-kilogram gas cylinder buried under the road. A wire connected to the bomb was seen leading about 150 meters into the forest.

Defeats in Middle East driving Islamic State fighters to Philippines
[REUTERS] Foreign Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters forced out of Syria and Iraq have been arriving in the Philippines with the intent of recruiting, and they have plans to attack two Philippine towns, the head of the country’s largest Moslem rebel group said on Tuesday.

More than 1,100 people were killed last year when pro-Islamic State gunnies attacked and held the Philippine city of Marawi for five months, leading to massive destruction across the scenic lakeside town.

That could happen in other cities if Congress fails to pass a law to allow Moslems in the southern Philippines to run their own affairs, according to Ebrahim Murad, leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, a separatist group which signed a peace deal with the government in return for greater autonomy.
