Holder and Soetoro playing 'impeach Trump' in Pennsylvania
[American Thinker] Former president Obama and attorney general Eric Holder are agitating again. After witnessing the loss of their presidential candidate and the flickering remains of the faux "Russia collusion" case, they are not deterred. Rather than politely passing the torch, they are attempting to torch our entire election process in their obsessive attempt to destroy Trump's presidency.

During Obama's reign, we witnessed his flagrant flouting of United States laws, his weaponization of federal bureaucracies, his ham-handed interference in local criminal activities, and his illegal meddling in foreign elections ‐ Egypt and Israel being the more egregious examples. Now he is back on the political scene, shrouded in the shadows, conniving, advising, and fundraising for the recently founded National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC). The NDRC's stated goal is to end gerrymandering after the elections in 2020. Year 2020 is an obvious and legal target. Every ten years, after the national census is completed, congressional delegates and districts are reconfigured, added, and eliminated, based upon the population shifts in each state. In Pennsylvania, the state legislature is empowered to implement redistricting, and these functions are carried out in a timely and orderly manner.

Not content to wait until 2020, however, the NDRC hatched a scheme to wrest power away from key state legislatures. Pennsylvania has proven to be a prime target. Here's why.

The Pennsylvania Legislature is controlled by Republicans who created the district maps, as authorized, after the 2010 census and elections. (It is essential to note that each party in power draws district maps to its advantage.) The legislature is still controlled by Republicans, but Pennsylvania's governor is a Democrat: Tom Wolf. Wolf went along with the districts until Pennsylvania's Supreme Court suddenly became controlled, after the last elections, by Democrat justices. When the governor and Legislature could not agree on a new map, the Democrats brought an "illegal gerrymandering" case through Pennsylvania's judicial system, knowing that the Democrat-controlled Supreme Court was predetermined to support their case. Accusing the Republicans of being avaricious in their redistricting, the new Democrat-devised map is equally slanted. The redrawn map confusedly renumbers districts; eliminates potentially four Republican seats, thereby abolishing some Republican "incumbency advantages"; and makes a mockery of the Democrats' professed motive of district neutrality.

Reporters Told To Not Report On Soetoro Speech
[Daily Caller] Former President Barack Obama’s speech Friday is intended to be a secret affair, with organizers threatening to remove anyone who tweets or reports on his comments.

Obama was scheduled to address Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference attendees Friday afternoon to discuss his future plans and reflect on his presidency, but media has been barred from reporting on his remarks.

"Following the panel, the sharing or reporting of its contents on public platforms (including social media) will not be permitted," the conference organizers typed in correspondence to media, according to The Boston Globe. "Those who fail to adhere to this policy will be subject to removal from the conference and denied tickets to future SSAC conferences."

An event spokesperson clarified "sharing or reporting of its contents" is forbidden when The Globe inquired further. "This policy applies to all attendees, credentialed media included," the email availed.

The SSAC is an annual conference geared toward sports-industry professionals. Other speakers include former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi, Boston Red Sox executive vice president and CFO Tim Zue, Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca and former New York Yankees shortstop Alex Rodriguez.

Obama is set to "discuss his time in office and the next chapter of his life," the SSAC said when it announced Obama would be one of the speakers in January.

FBI call warning about Cruz says he's into ISIS, mentally slow [transcript]
[Right Scoop] The FBI released a transcript of the call they received about Nikolas Cruz before the shooting, and it’s crazy. The tipster couldn’t have made it more clear, and they still did nothing.

The tipster says he was into ISIS, but that’s because of what she saw on his Instagram – we posted some of it here.

Still, it’s unbelievable that the FBI had all of this and did nothing.

Here’s the lesson from the Parkland shooting everyone should get, but won’t:

the volume of credible threats that have to be processed must be overwhelming

Just the fact [from the transcript] that the first point of citizen contact is an "Intake Specialist" tells me why the system is overwhelmed.

"So if anybody else has questions they can call you back. Is that correct ma'am?"

Apparently any 'alarm key' indicators set by the Intake Specialist were ignored.

There is no indication of when the 13 minute audio session was processed but the transcript completion date appears to be 2/15/2018.
Perhaps some 41 days later during which the content was recognized to be significant enough to generate a report.

California Sets Up 24-Hour Hotline to Report 20-Pound Rodent Sightings
[PJ] The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is asking for the public's help in identifying populations of invasive nutria (Myocasator coypus). The giant, rodents, natives of South America, have reportedly been reproducing in California, and CDFW authorities are trying to determine the extent of the infestation.

"To date, nutria have been found in wetlands, rivers, canals and other freshwater habitat in Merced, Fresno and Stanislaus counties," CDFW explained in a recent bulletin. "If allowed to establish, nutria will severely impact California’s resources, causing the loss of wetlands, severe soil erosion, damage to agricultural crops and levees and reduced stability of banks, dikes and roadbeds, as they have done in Louisiana, Chesapeake Bay and the Pacific Northwest. Nutria also degrade water quality and contaminate drinking supplies with parasites and diseases transmissible to humans, livestock and pets."

A multiagency Nutria Response Team has been activated, tasked with creating a nutria eradication plan.

"We have no idea how many there are or how they were reintroduced," CDFW spokesman Peter Tira told NPR. "We don’t know if someone set one loose or if there was an isolated population out there that we didn’t know about. But we do know we have to get rid of them."

POTUS Announces Plans to Name U.S. Ship ‘Canberra' in Honor of WWII Australian Ship
[Free Beacon] President Donald Trump announced on Friday while speaking at a joint press conference next to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull that a new U.S. Navy ship will be named "Canberra."

Three Australian Navy ships have been named Canberra, Australia's capital city, in the country's history. The U.S. vessel will specifically be named in memory of the heavy cruiser HMAS Canberra, a ship that sunk during the Battle of Savo Island in World War II. Not long after the sinking, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered an American cruiser, the USS Pittsburgh, be renamed the the USS Canberra (CA-70/CAG-2) in memory of the HMAS Canberra. The first USS Canberra was decommissioned in 1970.

Trump said in his announcement at the White House that the new Canberra will be Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) 30, and the ship's sponsor will be Australian Minister of Defence Marise Payne.

"I know that the USS Canberra will be a worthy successor to her Australian namesake and her American predecessor, the former Navy Baltimore-class cruiser the USS Canberra," Trump said. "As she sails the open sea, the new USS Canberra will symbolize to all who cross her path the enduring friendship between the United States and Australia. There is no closer friendship."

Turnbull thanked Trump for the honor of having an American vessel named Canberra. Turnbull also noted LCS-30 will be built by Australian company Austal at its shipyard in Mobile, Alabama where American workers are employed.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott Pushes Gun Confiscation Orders, Opposes Arming Teachers
[Breitbart] Gov. Rick Scott (R) is pushing firearm confiscation orders and stands opposed to the suggestion that teachers should be armed for school safety.

CNN reports that Scott is pushing a "Violent Threat Restraining Order," which are similar to California’s Gun Violence Restraining Orders in that they a designed to secure court orders to confiscate firearms following a family member’s complaint.

It is difficult to see how such orders‐designed to be triggered by family requests‐would have been effective against Nikolas Cruz. After all, the family with which he was staying repeatedly called the police on him in November 2017 but refused to file charges when sheriff’s deputies arrived. A member of the family with which Cruz was staying explained away Cruz’s erratic behavior by saying he "had been suffering significantly from the loss of his mother" earlier in the month.

Scott is also pushing a bump stock ban, "tougher background checks," more stringent rules against the mentally ill, and a ban on purchasing or possessing firearms by anyone "subject to an injunction for protection against stalking, cyberstalking, dating violence, repeat violence, sexual violence, or domestic violence.

#3  What is beginning to emerge in Broward County Florida appears to be a tragic example of selective enforcement, based on race. Mind the crime and incarceration statistics. Our only industry is tourism and we don't need any Malmo, Sweden stories.

BTW, any cash estate (estimated to be somewhat large) that the murdering, nutcase Cruz may have inherited from his deceased parents should be forfeited and ordered split among the families of the victims, NOT his related caretakers.

They didn't file charges or take appropriate legal actions, they are part of the problem.

Afrin Activities: Turks advance slightly into kill box, explain sensitive and gentle shelling of aid convoy

Turkish-backed rebels score small advance in Afrin -- map

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels scored a small advance in the Afrin region of Aleppo on Friday after a fierce battle with the Kurdish-led YPG forces.

According to pro-opposition activists, the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels captured the town of Muskan in the Rajou District, forcing the YPG to retreat further south towards the city of Afrin.

In addition to their advance at the Rajou District, the Ottoman Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) seized the town of Balfour near the imperative Jandaris axis in southern Afrin.

YPG activists claimed that at least ten FSA rebels were killed during their attack, while the overall corpse count for the Kurdish forces is unknown.

As a result of this advance, the Ottoman Turkish-backed forces now control over 415 square kilometers of territory inside the Afrin region of Aleppo.

Turkish forces yesterday shelling convoy headed to Syria's Afrin region

[AlAhram] The Ottoman Turkish army struck a convoy entering Syria's Kurdish-held Afrin region, which Ankara said carried fighters and weapons but Kurdish forces said was made up of civilians entering with food and medicine.

In a statement on Friday, the Ottoman Turkish military said a fleet of some 30-40 vehicles of the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia had approached the main town of the northwest Afrin region. It said artillery targeted the convoy "carrying terrorists, weapons and ammunition".

The YPG said the convoy, which arrived in Afrin late on Thursday, had transported civilians from the Jazeera region further east and other towns under the control of Kurdish forces.

Birusk Hasaka, the YPG front man in Afrin, said the convoy included hundreds of people. The shelling set some cars ablaze, wounding at least ten people and killing one passenger.

"The convoy was headed to stand in solidarity with the people of Afrin, carrying food aid and medical supplies," he told Rooters.

"As always all attention and sensitivity was shown so that civilians were not harmed," the Ottoman Turkish military said on Friday. It released aerial video footage showing a series of kabooms and smoke rising from a country road.

President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday the Ottoman Turkish army was making every effort to avoid harming any civilians, which was extending the duration of the operation. Defence Minister Nurettin Canikli has previously dismissed reports of harmed civilians as false.

Human Rights Watch said on Friday it had investigated three attacks in Afrin last month in which Ottoman Turkish troops failed to prevent civilian casualties. The air strikes and shelling, on a cluster of tents, a poultry farm, and a house, killed 26 civilians, including 17 children, it said.

"It appears that vulnerable civilians are facing displacement and death because of the way The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
's latest offensive is being conducted," said Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at the U.S.-based group.

Since the onset of Syria's conflict in 2011, the YPG and its allies have carved out three autonomous cantons in the north. Their territory expanded as they defeated Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
with U.S. help, although Washington opposes their autonomy plans, as does the Syrian government.

This week, militias allied to Damascus deployed to Afrin to help fight the Ottoman Turkish assault. The Damascus government has also been allowing Kurdish fighters, civilians, and politicians to pass through its terrority to reach Afrin in recent weeks.

Freezing Navy EA-18G Crew In Ice Filled Cockpit Navigated Home Using Their Smart Watches
A U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler recently made it back to base after suffering a terrifying mid-air mishap, which left its two-person crew flying blind and frostbitten after the aircraft’s environment control system failed in part thanks to a pair of high-tech wrist watches. The incident occurred just over a year after the canopy on another one of the electronic warfare planes exploded in a bizarre over-pressurization incident and as the service continues to struggle to find exactly what’s causing persistent reports of "hypoxia-like" symptoms across the F/A-18 Hornet, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, and Growler fleets.

Defense News was first to report this new incident, which occurred approximately 60 miles south of Seattle, Washington. The EA-18G, assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9), was flying at approximately 25,000 feet on a mission from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, between Seattle and Vancouver BC, when the cockpit temperature plummeted to -30 degrees Fahrenheit.

The broken environmental control system (ECS) also let in a fine mist of liquid, which then froze, coating the inside of the canopy and vital flight instruments in an opaque sheen of ice. The ECS consists of a number of sub-components that are supposed to work together to manage oxygen flow to the crew, as well as cockpit pressure and temperature.

Despite using up all of their emergency oxygen supply, the crew was able to wend its way its way back to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island with help from air traffic controllers on the ground and their smart watches. In July 2017, Navy Hornet, Super Hornet, and Growler pilots each got a $450 Garmin Fenix 3 wristwatch
$345.00 at WalMart.
, which can measure air pressure and altitude and display an individual’s course heading.

The service issued the watches in order to provide a backup alert mechanism in case the ECS' on-board oxygen generation system, or OBOGS, malfunctioned and cockpit pressure dropped to unsafe levels and the aircraft's built-in safety mechanisms and warning systems also failed. The Navy had not publicly stated that it could serve as a improvised navigational aid in an emergency.
Continues.

I do, however have to wonder what language the editor of the article speaks, what with a phrase like "environment control system failed in part thanks to a pair of high-tech wrist watches".

Two doctors get death for killing colleague
[DAWN] An anti-terrorism court here on Thursday convicted two doctors and awarded them death sentence for kidnapping their doctor friend for ransom and subsequently stabbing him to death.
"What... what's that in your hand?"
"A scalpel!"
"It looks like a Bowie knife! It's a foot long!"
"It's a Bowie scalpel!"

ATC judge Sabir Khan pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the two accused persons named Dr Ahmad Ali and Dr Haseeb Anwer and the evidence on record connected them with the commission of the offence. A third accused in the case, Habibur Rehman, was also convicted and was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment.
"Aaaiiieee! What are you doing!"
"Taking your appendix out!"
"It's already out! And it was a foot lower than that!"

Senior advocate Syed Abdul Fayyaz appeared for the complainant Mohammad Ashfaq, father of the dear departed Dr Salman Shahzad, and contended that there was incontrovertible evidence against the accused persons. He contended that the accused had kidnapped Dr Shahzad and killed him in a brutal manner. He stated that the dear departed was a doctor at the Children Hospital Danishabad, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

KP govt to approve Rs277m grant for Darul Uloom Haqqania
[DAWN] The provincial government of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is set to approve a Rs277 million grant for Darul Uloom Haqqania
...an Islamic seminary located in Akora Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The seminary propagates the Deobandi trend of Sunni Islam and is headed by Maulana Samiul Haq, known as the Godfather of the Taliban. It has been dubbed The University of Jihad due to the methods and content of instruction along with the future occupations of its alumni....
, DawnNews learnt on Friday.

A summary for the grant to be given to the madressah headed by Maulana Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
from the chief minister's discretionary funds has been sent to Pervez Khattak, religious affairs minister Habibur Rehman disclosed.

The funds are being disbursed on special directives of chief minister Khattak himself.

This is not the first time that the madressah would be on the receiving end of a gracious grant from Pakistain Tekhreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led KP government as Rs300m were allocated for it in the budget for financial year 2016-17.

Defending the move, PTI chief Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
had said that the funds and support would help the seminary students assimilate in our society, bring them in to the mainstream and keep them away from radicalisation.

"The same Darul Uloom was supported and financed by ANP, even the late Wali Khan went there," the PTI chief had said.

Samiul Haq is also being backed by the PTI to receive a berth in the Senate on a seat from KP in elections to be held on March 3.

[DailyMail]
  • John Duttenhofer of Colorado, traveled to Syria last April to fight ISIS alongside the Kurdish People's Protection Units, or YPG, in ISIS' de-facto capital, Raqqa

  • The former customer service worker, 24, said that playing first-person shooter games, including Call of Duty, helped prepare him for combat

  • He said he learned basic combat skills and knowledge of weapons from games

  • Duttenhofer arrived in Syria in April 2017, where he was taught basic Kurdish

  • He later joined a sniper group in Raqqa, and provided backup for other troops

  • He left Syria in October 2017 after the tragic death of his comrade, Jack Homes

  • Now that he's home he wants to eat ice cream and 'smoke as much pot as I can'

  • While the State Department strongly advises against Americans traveling to Syria, there are no legal consequences to volunteering to fight ISIS with Kurdish and Syrian militias.

Cash-strapped Venezuela faces eviction from Miami consulate
[MIAMIHERALD] Venezuela's cash-strapped government faces eviction from a Miami building it once owned after its consulate failed to pay rent since August.

The notice demanding the consulate vacate the building in the ritzy Brickell neighborhood was filed Feb. 15 in a Miami-Dade county court. The landlord, a developer behind Miami's tallest high-rise, the still being built Panorama Tower, said Venezuela owes $142,119 in unpaid rent.

The potential eviction is a major reversal for Venezuela's government, which owned the building until 2005, when it sold it for $70 million.

"The fact Venezuela can't come up with such a small amount of cash tells you what dire straits they're in," said Russ Dallen, a Miami-based investor specializing in Venezuelan bonds who discovered the eviction notice on Thursday.

Maldives warns India to 'refrain' from interfering in political crisis

New Delhi had expressed concern about the situation in the honeymoon islands, whose president has sacked top judges, jugged

political dissidents and imposed a state of emergency in recent weeks.

On Wednesday it said it was "deeply dismayed" by the extension of emergency rule, earning an official rebuke from the Maldives foreign ministry.

"There is no doubt that the Maldives is experiencing one of the most difficult periods in the history of the nation," the islands' ministry said in a statement late Thursday. "It is therefore important that friends and partners in the international community, including India, refrain from any actions that could hinder resolving the situation facing the country."

The Grand Turk
Erdogan sends stern warning to US over their role in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
sent another stern warning to the United States (US) and their allies during his meeting with provincial governors on Friday.

"This summer will be scorching hot for both the terrorist organization and its supporters," Erdogan stated.

"If there are those who are prepared to sacrifice themselves for this cause, we are up for that challenge," the Ottoman Turkish President continued.

"The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
can no longer stomach the U.S.’ delaying tactics. We are carefully watching those (who are supporting) the terrorist organization (PYD). If someone is planning to spend $500-550 million to support (the terrorists), are we supposed to wish them good luck?" he added.

Erdogan’s latest threats come just days after his forces seized over 20 percent of the YPG-held Afrin region in northern Aleppo.

Four sheriff's deputies hid during Florida school shooting (Unconfirmed)
[NYP] Not one but four sheriff’s deputies hid behind cars instead of storming Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during last week’s school shooting, according to a new report.

Sources from Coral Springs Police Department tell CNN that when officers arrived on the scene, they were shocked to find three Broward County Sheriff’s deputies behind their cars with their weapons drawn.

The school’s armed resource officer, Deputy Scot Peterson was also outside ‐ he resigned Thursday over his failure to act.

The cops entered the building to engage the shooter on their own, and then a new batch of Broward County deputies arrived, and two of those officers ‐ plus an officer from Sunrise, Florida ‐ joined the police inside the building, the sources said.

It’s unclear if the shooter was still inside at the time, CNN reports.

Pittsburgh Jewish Federation Bans Free Beacon After Publication of Dem Candidate’s Comments on Israel
[FREEBEACON] The Washington Free Beacon has been banned from covering and reporting on all events related to the Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh, a Jewish communal organization, following its publication of remarks made by Pennsylvania Democratic congressional candidate Conor Lamb at an event that the Federation says was off the record and closed to the press.

The Free Beacon first unearthed the comments by Lamb, who is currently running for Congress in a special election next month, in a Feb. 12 report that quoted the candidate accusing Israel of "terrorism" and the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians in the Gazoo Strip.

Lamb said at the time it was "disheartening to see" support for Israel being expressed in the pages of his college newspaper.

"It was disheartening to see the add [sic] in the DP the other day which read, ’Wherever we stand, we stand with Israel,'" Lamb wrote. "There is no doubt that both sides of this conflict have committed wrongs, but if this latest attack is not terrorism, I don't know what is."

When asked about those comments last week by an attendee at an event sponsored by the Pittsburgh Jewish Federation at the South Hills Jewish Community Center, Lamb claimed to have "absolutely no memory" of the remarks and seemed to suggest the comments may have been planted or forged, though he offered no evidence.

After the Free Beacon published Lamb’s response, Joshua Sayles, a top official with the Pittsburgh Jewish Federation, phoned the Free Beacon to say that the publication's reporting on Lamb’s comments was "unacceptable" and informed the outlet it is now banned from covering all Federation-related events in Pittsburgh.

Sayles, who serves as the director of Pittsburgh's Community Relations Center, or CRC, said Lamb’s remarks were made off the record and that the event was closed to the press.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
the event was presented as open to all community members and an invitation made no reference to it being off the record. Regardless, the Free Beacon legally obtained the video of the remarks and was neither party to, nor bound by any agreement between the Federation and Lamb.

Sayles told the Free Beacon on Tuesday that he would be contacting all area synagogues to alert them of the ban.

Lamb has come under fire following the Free Beacon’s report on his comments accusing Israel of state sanctioned terrorism.

In defending his remarks, Lamb claimed to have no recollection of writing the 2002 comment.

"I've looked at that several times in the last 24 hours and as a prosecutor I'll give you the most honest and accurate thing that I can say, which is, I have absolutely no memory of ever using those words at all. In the climate we're in, I think you all can fill in the rest, but all I can tell you is I don't recognize it," Lamb said, according to the tape obtained by the Free Beacon.

National pro-Israel organizations such as the Republican Jewish Coalition condemned Lamb’s initial comments, describing them as "ignorant and extreme."

"Conor Lamb's refusal to address his own ignorant and extreme attack against Israel is very troubling," Former Sen. Norm Coleman, RJC’s national chairman, said in a statement. "Given that refusal and the fact that he's running as a supporter of the anti-Israel organization J Street, it appears his views have not changed at all."

Trudeau's India trip is a total disaster ‐ and he has only himself to blame
[WashingtonPost] How did Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the world's favorite liberal mascot ‐ a feminist man, with movie-star good looks, a 50 percent female cabinet and a political lexicon that has replaced "mankind" with "peoplekind" (making millions swoon) ‐ end up looking silly, diminished and desperate on his trip to India this week?

Trudeau's eight-day India expedition has been an absolute fiasco.

Hours before meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his journey hit a dead end when the Canadian high commissioner invited a Sikh extremist named Jaspal Atwal (who has been convicted of attempted murder and was previously affiliated with a terrorist group) to a dinner to honor Trudeau in Delhi. Atwal was found guilty of trying to kill an Indian minister in 1986; he was also blamed for an assault on Ujjal Dosanjh, the former premier of British Columbia.

-Land of the Free
The answer to the problem of gun violence cannot just be “more guns.”
[WashingtonPost] National Rifle Association Vice President Wayne LaPierre says people who want stronger gun control after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. — apparently including the students who survived there — “don’t care about our schoolchildren. They want to make all of us less free!”

By LaPierre’s account, Florida — with some of the loosest gun laws in the nation — ought to be one of the freest states in the nation. Try telling that to the students in Parkland. Try telling that to the families of victims, whose freedom was robbed last week in gruesome fashion. Try telling that to the survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando in 2016, where 49 people were killed — or the survivors of the shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport in January 2017, where five were killed and 36 injured in the mayhem. How free do they feel in a society where such events happen regularly and lawmakers do nothing to prevent them?
The law is a terrible instrument to prevent anything, especially evil. Law is primarily custodial in nature. When the law ceases to be custodial and becomes preventative, you will have tyranny.
Now the NRA and its allies are saying we need to arm teachers and staff in our schools, instead of doing something that might make it harder to get guns, like closing the legal loophole in Florida and most other states that lets anyone buy a weapon in a private sale without any background check.
Called universal background checks. The author is suggesting what didn't work in keeping a firearm away from a bad guy will work if it is applied to all gun purchases. As I recall, the young man bought the rifle, as well as a variety of other firearms, legally through the federal transfer system. Applying that to all purchases will likely work as well as it did with the young man.
If a coach at the high school had been armed, President Trump said Thursday, he could have stopped the gunman in his tracks. Trump questioned the policy of designating schools “gun free zones” because this advertises to a “sicko shooter” that schools are soft targets. If teachers and staff are armed, the president says, this will deter prospective shooters. This is plainly false: There was an armed guard at the Parkland school, but he didn’t even attempt to confront the killer. For that matter, there was an armed guard at Columbine High School during the first mass school shooting to capture national attention in 1999. He was no match for the shooters’ firepower — four weapons, including a semiautomatic firearm.
The point is that with an armed individual, whether there in an official capacity or privately, the chances of stopping a shooting increases. The author wants to paint everyone else with the same broad brush as the killer, and apply a draconian law in the false notion that it will reduce the likelyhood of shootings.
What kind of firepower, what show of defense, would credibly deter shooters?
It only takes one well placed shot to stop a shooter.
And what transformation does this risk inflicting on our schools? If we outfit teachers with concealed handguns, will the NRA say after the next shooting that school officials must match the firepower of would-be killers? Are we morally required to stock schools with AR-15s?
You'll have to decide that for yourself. My main point is that with enough armed individuals at school, your chances of preventing, not to mention stopping a shooting increases.
After the Sandy Hook school shooting, NRA minion Louie Gohmert said he wished the principal “had an M-4 [semiautomatic rifle] in her office” so she could have stopped the shooter in his tracks. Is this soon to become part of the common visit to the principal’s office — gazing up at the semiautomatic rifle mounted on the wall, over the desk?
If the teacher is smart, the rifle will be out of sight, leaned against something, barrel down, a round chambered, and ready to rock.
Of course, as many have noted, arming teachers is no solution to mass shootings. They will hardly make such situations better — they will probably make them worse by compounding the damage and bloodshed. Even trained police officers have a hard time using their weapons precisely, much less effectively, in chaotic situations.
Thank you. Better to have someone there with the training, and most of all, the will to use a firearm in such situations. Cops don't always meet that standard, but a cop is better than no one.
So perhaps LaPierre’s solution is to deliver school shootouts, where students must cower in the crossfire between criminals and teachers. If so, enterprising companies — often in the defense industry, accustomed to outfitting our soldiers for foreign campaigns — are ready with products designed to protect students from said shootouts. These include bulletproof backpacks for the kids and bulletproof whiteboards and clipboards for teachers. Or bulletproof blankets that students can pull over themselves — even bulletproof armor that can be pulled off the walls and ceilings. These are school expenses I am sure the NRA would happily endorse.
Those are passive measures, helpful to be sure, but not a solution to a kinetic situation.
But what will our schools look like when we are done? What will our schools feel like? Is this where we are to train and nurture a free society, in the midst of assault rifles and bulletproof armor?
Right now schools are target rich environments. That doesn't change, but for a few shooters dedicated to returning the gunfire of a Bad Guy.
Those things signify and communicate something quite other than freedom. They impose an environment of fear, which can be debilitating to our youth, whom we should want to be confident, open, honest and happy. These are not the kinds of things you see in a free society, but a society at war. How bizarre is it that we would willfully take on the trappings of a society at war, while countless nations around the world — embroiled in real, live civil wars — envy our peace?
You just destroyed your own argument. Surprised the editors didn't catch that.
Editors are expensive, so news organizations have been trading them in for spell check programs.
This is madness, of course. The NRA’s logic dictates that we should make our schools look like war zones to accommodate unfettered gun rights.

Rather than imposing a bunker mentality on our youth, how about trying the basics of gun control? We already have gun control.
You just want to increase it with more laws added to the 20,000 laws that already don't work.
Because right now, there is little of that, especially in Florida. In addition to forgoing universal background checks on gun sales, Florida is the laboratory of “stand your ground” laws, which permit gun owners to shoot people they deem threatening. Of course, the nature of “threat” is highly subjective, and predictably, many innocent people have been needlessly killed, thanks to this reckless law. Florida also imposes a gag rule on doctors forbidding them from discussing gun safety with patients who have a gun in the home. In this case, Florida decided that the Second Amendment should overrule the First.
Puleez. Discussions with a patient are not a part of free speech.
And Florida lawmakers have been eager to follow the lead of 11 other states that have recently legalized “permitless carry,” whereby gun owners can carry a gun in public with no permit — or safety training.
I would say the vast majority of gun owners already have safety training, or can get it on their own. Florida is crawling with tactical firearms instructors.
Are people finally waking up to our outrageous gun laws? Is this what we are seeing now, with Stoneman Douglas High students storming their state capital, flooding lawmakers with loud, impassioned demands for action?
We are seeing gun control activists and Democrats manipulating youth for their own ends.
Do the youth understand better what their elders ignore?
No.
Is this why they are staging school protests across the nation, walking out of class? Because they see the nation that the NRA wants them to inherit, and they know it is absurd, chilling, apocalyptic?
If they were smart, they first would not allow the left to use them like a condom.
The NRA, and the gun rights movement more broadly, is fragile, weak, ripe for defeat. While there are 270 million guns in America, ownership is shockingly concentrated: half the guns are owned by 3 percent of gun owners. Gun ownership drops precipitously among younger people, with no sign of a rebound — certainly not after the Parkland shooting, as teens recoil at the NRA’s vision for America.
That's new firearms, sweetie. You have no clue as to privately acquired firearms.
What’s more, the NRA represents a tiny minority of voters, and only a minority of gun owners. It has prevailed against the majority of Americans who favor stronger gun control laws — 90 percent of whom want universal background checks, for example — by persuading or threatening lawmakers to heed its will, over and against their constituents. This worked fine so long as voters did not prioritize gun control and ignored the outrageous laws around them. But now things might change. For the NRA, the game is almost up. It’s long past time.

Right. The answer is more law abiding, caring citizens equipped with guns and trained in their use.

And the head of one incoming freshman class chosen by lottery. Technically, two students are drawn and they fight to the death on the football field. Winner wears a scarlet letter, loser gets mounted. Oh, also a water buffalo, felled by spear.

Actually, there are some really neat gun safes out there, some with rft unlock for quick access. Make it look like a bookshelf, gun grabbers and bad guys won't go near it.

#5  So once again this morning I am wearing my tin foil hat.

But what are we supposed to think? We know they hate Trump and we know they want gun control. So when somebody offers a solution that Trump endorses and it allows law abiding citizens to keep their guns they go into #resist mode.

Do they want more school shootings? That's a tough question. But if they can blame it on Trump and continue to escalate their calls for a ban on the AR-15 you kinda have to wonder.

Then we find out the FBI knew about this kid in Parkland. The local sheriff knew. No way in hell would this kid pass a background check if some of his crimes had not been ignored by local law enforcement.

What the fuck did they think was gonna happen?

Oh, by the way, my understanding is that an AR-15 will cost upwards of a thousand dollars. I don't know because I was never in the market for one but I think they are not cheap and how many of them did Cruz have and how many other guns did he have? He was a 19 year old high school dropout. Where did he work? How did he get his hands on enough money to buy his guns? Has anybody besides me even asked?

#6  If I had scrolled down a bit the answer to one of my questions was right there...

.223/5.56mm (AR Pattern Semiautomatic) Average Price: $450 Last Week Avg: $440(+) ($616 (2Q, 2015), $387 (25 Weeks))

Not a thousand dollars. Maybe I should run out and buy one. Still I think it's a considerable amount of money for a 19 year old high school dropout and I still think it's reasonable to ask how he got his hands on that much money.

I am hearing stories about local gun shop owners selling new, assembled ARs (DPMS, etc) for $400 out the door. Retail outlets just want to be rid of the things because of market conditions.
Rural King is selling M&P Sport 15s for $499.

The AR market is a buyer's market at the moment. If the left would just shut its f*cking mouth for two weeks, prices for ARs would continue to go down harder than Nina Burleigh on Bill Clinton.

Trump says Russia, Iran behavior in Syria a ‘disgrace’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on Friday slammed as a "disgrace" the actions of the Syrian government and its Iranian and Russian backers, as the world struggles to stop a deadly assault on a rebel-held enclave near Damascus.

"I will say what Russia and what Iran and what Syria have done recently is a humanitarian disgrace," Trump told a news conference. "What those three countries have done to those people is a disgrace."

The US State Department has said Russia -- whose air force is also striking Eastern Ghouta -- has a "unique responsibility" for the mounting corpse count in the besieged enclave.

They are part of a group of 1,128 academics who signed a declaration in January 2016 denouncing security operations against Kurdish snuffies in southeastern Turkey. Many of the academics lost their jobs.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Video of woman shoved by policeman in Iran sparks criticism on social media
[DAWN] A video showing an Iranian policeman shoving a woman protesting against mandatory headscarves off her makeshift podium in a busy Tehran street sparked criticism on social media on Friday.

The video of the solitary female demonstrator was apparently shot on Enghelab (Revolution) Street, where a woman was first detained in December after standing with her head uncovered waving a scarf on a stick.

Since then several dozen Iranian women have published photos of themselves in the street or parks, their heads uncovered, waving their scarves in an act of defiance.

The woman in the video is seen standing on a street cabinet with her arms raised in the air, her long blond hair worn in a high ponytail.

Asked by two coppers to get down, she replies calmly: "Tell me what my offence is and I'll get down."

"Disturbing public order," one of them says.

A crowd then forms and starts clapping.

In the second part of the video, apparently shot on a cellphone, one of the coppers steps up to the same height as the woman and shoves her off her podium, to the indignation of onlookers.

"Where are the human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
?" a male voice asks.

Lawyer and human rights activist Nasrin Sotoudeh wrote on Facebook that the policeman broke the law because "no man has the right to treat a woman like this".

Twitter users also reacted with dismay.

"Breaking the law while in law enforcement uniform is our problem in Iran," one tweeted.

Lebanon 'detains suspect' in Joanna Demafelis' murder in Kuwait
[Al Jazeera] One of the two suspects in the murder of a Filipina maid in Kuwait has been placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
and detained in Leb, according to the Philippine department of foreign affairs.

Nader Essam Assaf, a Lebanese national, was arrested in his home country for the death of Joanna Demafelis, Alan Cayetano, the Philippine foreign affairs secretary, said in a statement on Friday.

Cayetano said President Rodrigo Duterte "welcomes the news" of the arrest and expects Kuwaiti authorities to request the extradition of Assaf to stand trial in Kuwait.

"Assaf’s arrest is a critical first step in our quest for justice for Joanna, and we are thankful to our friends in Kuwait and Leb for their assistance."

A second suspect remains unaccounted for.

Demafelis had gone missing in September 2016, and her body was found in a freezer in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait earlier this month.

She left for Kuwait in 2014 hoping to earn enough to support her family.

The statement said a senior Kuwaiti security official informed the Philippine ambassador to Kuwait of the arrest.

Earlier, Mousaed Al Thwaikh, Kuwait's ambassador to the Philippines, assured the Philippine government that his country would do everything it can to find the suspects.

Assaf and his wife, Mona, a Syrian national, are accused of torturing and killing 29-year-old Demafelis.

Mona remains wanted and is believed to be in Syria.

They reportedly left Kuwait following Demafelis' death.

NBC News Op-Ed: Efforts to Colonize Mars Driven by ‘Male Entitlement,’ ‘Patriarchy’
[FREEBEACON] An op-ed published Thursday on NBC News' "Think" platform argued that the desire of several billionaires to colonize Mars is "patriarchal" and driven by male privilege.
Turble. It's just turble. Ummm... Howcome?
"The Patriarchal Race to Colonize Mars Is Just Another Example of Male Entitlement," wrote Marcie Bianco of the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University.
She's the Winner of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association's Excellence in Online Journalism Award in 2016, so we can believe what she sez.
Bianco argued that SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, and Virgin Galatic's Richard Branson are driven by a "Columbusing attitude" and an imperialist ethos" in their efforts to establish a human presence on Mars, arguing that "the impulse to colonize ... has its origins in gendered power structures."
There aren't, as far as we can tell, any primitive folk on Mars to be exploited, so it would really be nothing but a real estate grab. We've only been talking about colonizing space since Cyrano de Bergerac, maybe earlier. I suppose going where no man (or woman or child) has gone before is a pretty manly thing, but it really can't be helped that those who aren't good at math would be excluded from the project.
"These men, particularly Musk, are not only heavily invested in who can get their rocket into space first, but in colonizing Mars," she wrote. "The desire to colonize‐to have unquestioned, unchallenged, and automatic access to something, to any type of body, and to use it at will‐is a patriarchal one."
It doesn't sound real matriarchal, does it? I'm still stuck at why matriarchal would be preferable to patriarchal, since matriarchal societies don't seem to have been particularly successful in human history, but that's probably because I'm not a lesbian and I've never taken a gender study.
So if instead of shooting his old red sports car to Mars, Musk had shot a statue of an Amazon to Venus, would she have had the same opinion?
"It is the same instinctual and cultural force that teaches men that everything‐and everyone‐in their line of vision is theirs for the taking," she continued. "You know, just like walking up to a woman and grabbing her by the pussy. It's there, so just grab it because you can."
When I was sixteen I had a girlfriend who used to shut me up by accusing me of gross generalization. I suspect this gal doesn't have the good manners I had back then. Rita, if you're reading this, tell her, okay?
"Houston, we have a problem," Bianco concluded. "And it's the patriarchy."
"Houston, we have a problem” has become such a cliche, especially among the STEM-challenged.

Police given three weeks to arrest key suspect in stripping case
[DAWN] A Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court bench on Thursday directed the Dera Ismail Khan
... the Pearl of Pashtunistan ...
police to arrest the prime suspect in the teenage girl stripping case within three weeks.

Chief Justice Yahaya Afridi and Justice Mohammad Ayub Khan adjourned the hearing into the case until March 20 observing if the police failed to arrest the main suspect by then, the deputy inspector general of police (headquarters) should appear before the court to explain their failure.

The bench issued the directives after additional advocate general Qaiser Ali Shah and AIG (legal) Falak Nawaz submitted the case progress report in line with its earlier directives.

The AAG and AIG said the Dera Ismail Khan regional police officer had constituted three teams headed by superintendent of police Mohammad Ashfaq for arresting the absconding suspect.

They said eight of the nine suspects charged by the victim had already been jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
The AAG and AIG pointed out that after receiving information that the absconding suspect had stayed with some people, the police had registered five FIRs against several of his alleged controllers.

The bench asked why the police had not arrested the absconding suspect as during previous hearing, it had issued specific directives for the purpose.

NRA Members Vow To Boycott Companies That Have Ditched Gun Rights Group
[PoliticalInsider] Whenever there’s a mass shooting, gun-grabbers respond in two ways: call for more gun control and attack the NRA. That’s certainly been the case following the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fla., but law-abiding members of the NRA aren’t taking it lying down.

Recently, three car rental companies ‐ Enterprise, Alamo, and National ‐ all revealed on Twitter that they’ve ended a discount program for NRA members effective March 26th.

All three companies are owned by Enterprise Holdings Inc. And in response, many supporters of the NRA vowed to never use their services again.

However, Enterprise wasn’t the only company to sever ties with Enterprise. First National Bank of Omaha, the nation’s largest privately owned bank, announced Thursday that they will no longer offer an NRA-branded Visa card.

And of course, Michael Moore had to throw in his two cents and label the NRA a "terrorist organization."

These people are truly delusional. Attacking the Second Amendment and its supporters will achieve nothing, as they are not to blame for tragedies like what occurred in Parkland.

2 Palestinians wounded by IDF fire during riots along Gaza fence
[IsraelTimes] Army says 350 demonstrators take part in violent protests, plant flag along border amid heightened alert after last week's kaboom

A few hundred Paleostinians violently protested along the Gazoo border Friday amid a heightened alert by the Israeli military.

The IDF said some 350 demonstrators took part in the riots at five different locations along the border, burning tires and throwing rocks toward soldiers.

Two "inciters" were shot by soldiers for "posing a threat to IDF troops and the security fence," the army said. There were no reports of injured soldiers.

In one incident a Paleostinian flag was hung upon the border fence, according to Hadashot TV news. During rioting last week, bandidos turbans from the Popular Resistance Committees put a flag on the fence, under which they hid an improvised bomb.

The following day, when IDF troops from the Golani brigade and the combat engineering corps approached the fence to remove the flag, the bomb detonated, wounding four soldiers, two of them seriously.

The IDF has now eased the open-fire regulations in response to the heightened tensions, allowing soldiers to use lethal fire to prevent similar approaches to the border fence in future, Channel 10 reported on Friday. Snipers were stationed along the border for the purpose, along with other forces.

The move comes after Israeli officials warned that the IED attack crossed a red line, and "the gloves will be off" in the next encounter between rioters organized by Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", and IDF troops.

Separately Friday, the IDF said 950 Paleostinians held violent protests at 14 locations in the West Bank.

The protesters burned tires and threw rocks and molotov cocktails at IDF troops and border policeman, who responded with riot dispersal means, the army said.

The IDF said it was aware of one Paleostinian reported injured in the festivities.

Europe
Satellite just launched by SpaceX more interesting than presented
My best guess short summary: This Spanish sat working with the 2 German sats can do high-resolution trinocular 3D radar imaging. Since they are in the same orbit but not in the same position at the same time this would not be 3D for transient or moving objects but for static or fixed objects. The period for the 3 of them to image the same spot is 11 days so that's the transient vs fixed time delta. Or same place for 11 days (worst case if one sat is right next to the other) = 3D high res image. The phrasing of the "calibration" statement suggests the 3D scientist involved or some of his previous students. If he is involved it is correct accurate and well designed. Trinocular is much more accurate then the binocular imaging that the existing pair of sats are likely engaged in. In addition trinocular imaging requires much less computational resources than binocular and ambiguity tends toward zero for the visible surface. If one wanted full minimal ambiguity in all directions it would require the target object to be in space with a tetrahedral arrangement of imagers so this is a minimal resource, optimum solution, for a 3D image of the surface of the earth (shell).

Couple jailed for planning Isis-inspired bomb attack in UK after meeting on dating site
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] A couple who planned an Isis-inspired terror attack in the UK after meeting on a dating website have been enjugged.

Munir Mohammed was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years, while accomplice Rowaida El-Hassan was enjugged
You have the right to remain silent...
for 12 years and five more under licence conditions.

Security services feared Mohammed and pharmacist El-Hassan were ready to strike before they were detained.

Mohammed, a 37-year-old Sudanese refugee, had already amassed two out of three core components for triacetone triperoxide (TATP), the powerful explosive used in Isis attacks including Gay Paree and Brussels.

He had also downloaded a manual on how to make ricin, a deadly poison that can kill an adult victim with just a few grains.

Judge Michael Topolski QC told Mohammed: "You decided that yours would be a lone wolf attack. You decided the means of your attack would involve you making an IED.

"You had not decided whether that would be made with an ordinary bomb or whether you could do more damage and more terror by exploding a device containing ricin."

The judge told the Old Bailey that Mohammed deliberately drew El-Hassan in to the point where her commitment was "consistent and sustained".

Double bombing rocks Somalia's Mogadishu
[Al Jazeera] A double suicide boom-mobile blast followed by gunfire has left at least 18 people dead and maimed 20 others in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, medical workers said.

A loud kaboom reportedly took place on Friday, followed by a second blast and sustained gunfire which broke out near the president's residence.

The Aamin Ambulance service, which confirmed the corpse count, transported victims to the hospital.

The gang al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
grabbed credit for the attack.

"As far as we know, there has been one blast beside the presidential palace, and another close to a popular hotel," Major Mohammed Ahmed, a police officer, told local media.
An Nahar adds:
The first blast, followed by gunfire, occurred at a checkpoint close to Villa Somalia, the name for the seat of government, while a second followed soon after at a hotel.

"I can confirm an attack in the vicinity of the presidential palace," said police officer Ibrahim Mohammed.

"Another car loaded with explosives went off close to a recently opened hotel," Mohammed added.

The Shabaab Islamist murderous Moslem group claimed it was targeting the government and security services.

The blasts follow weeks of relative calm in Mogadishu.

According to officials, the main attack involved the use of a vehicle loaded with explosives attempting to breach a checkpoint leading to the presidential palace but security forces prevented the assault.

"The security forces foiled the intent of the terrorists. They were aiming for key targets but they could not even go closer, there were five of them killed by the security force," said Abdulahi Ahmed, a security officer.

US says Jerusalem embassy to open in May, Palestinians furious
[Ynet] Expedited move sets to coincide with 70th anniversary of Israel declaring independence; Netanyahu: 'Move will make Israel's 70th Independence Day a much greater celebration'; Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, calls move 'declaration of war'; PLO official Erekat: 'US are part of the problem.'
They use strong words because they haven’t much else, poor darlings.
The United States Embassy in Israel will move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in May 2018 to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel declaring independence, the State Department confirmed Friday night.

"We are excited about taking this historic step, and look forward with anticipation to the May opening," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.

The embassy in Jerusalem will be gradually expanded in existing consular facilities in the Arnona neighborhood, while the search for a permanent site has already begun for what Nauert called a "longer-term undertaking."

The interim embassy will have office space for the ambassador and a small staff and, by the end of 2019, a new embassy annex on the Arnona compound will be opened, Nauert said in a statement.

The consulate in east Jerusalem will continue to serve Paleostinians, and for security reasons US Ambassador David Friedman will continue living in the residence in Herzliya, north of Tel Aviv, and commute to the relocated embassy, another official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Trump administration officials said Congress was notified of the impending move. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson signed off on the security plan for the new embassy on Thursday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US decision, saying it "will turn Israel's 70th Independence Day into a much greater celebration."

"This is a great day for the people of Israel," Netanyahu noted in a statement released Friday night. "Thank you, President Trump, for your leadership and your friendship."

Paleostinians reacted with anger to the move, saying this could destroy the prospect of a two-state solution to the Israel-Paleostinian conflict.

Saeb Erekat
...negotiated the Oslo Accords with Israel. He has been chief Paleostinian negotiator since 1995. He is currently negotiating with Israel to establish a de jure Paleostinian state...
, the Paleostinian's chief negotiator in peace talks that have been frozen since 2014, said the US move showed a "determination to violate international law, destroy the two-state solution and provoke the feelings of the Paleostinian people as well as of all Arabs, Moslems and Christians around the globe."

Erekat, who is also secretary-general of the Paleostine Liberation Organization, went on to say that US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and his team "have disqualified the US from being part of the solution between Israelis and Paleostinians; rather, the world now sees that they are part of the problem."

He further lamented the fact the move would coincide with the Nakba Day‐the 1948 Paleostinian exodus, or how the Paleostinians refer to the establishment of Israel.
An extra reason for celebration...
Israel will this year celebrate the anniversary on April 19-20. Israel proclaimed independence on May 14, 1948.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new American embassy is being planned for mid-May.

The May opening marks a significant acceleration. Vice President Mike Pence had said previously the embassy would open by the end of 2019, while Tillerson had said it could take years.
“Bottom line it for me, Rex: what are the key things an embassy needs that a consulate doesn’t have?”
“Well, Mr. President, it needs to have offices for the ambassador and his immediate staff and a party room for receptions, a secure room for communications... A break room for the Marines would be nice, too.”
“Let’s take a look at the architectural drawings of that Jerusalem consulate — I’ll bet we can move around a few interior walls to meet that minimum until we have the fancy new building approved and built. I suspect we can even add another bathroom without too much trouble.”

McCain associate takes Fifth on Trump dossier questions
[FOXNEWS] A former State Department official and associate of Sen. John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump...
has invoked his Fifth Amendment right not to testify in connection with questions from the House Intelligence Committee about the anti-Trump dossier’s Russian sources, according to a law enforcement source.

David J. Kramer, who is a central player in how the unverified Trump dossier made its way to the FBI in late 2016, testified before the committee in December in a closed-door session, indicating he had information about the dossier's sources. A subpoena was issued for mid-January, as first reported by The Washington Examiner.

The law enforcement source confirmed, however, that Kramer did not appear and has exercised his Fifth Amendment rights.

Yet Kramer gave a videotaped deposition last December in separate civil litigation against BuzzFeed about the dossier and his contact with the former British spy who compiled it, Remington Christopher Steele. Steele was hired by opposition research firm Fusion GPS to write and research the dossier, with funding from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign.

Home Front: Politix
When Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel Was Accused of Corruption, He Responded: ‘Lions Don't Care About the Opinions of Sheep'
[Reason] Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel‐the man whose agency failed to prevent the Parkland massacre despite having received a tip last November that Nikolas Cruz was plotting a mass shooting‐has been accused of public corruption.

Two years ago, the Sun Sentinel reported that Israel was rewarding top political supporters by giving them and their family members cushy jobs doing public relations and community outreach for the Broward County Sheriff's Office. One such position, outreach manager, paid out a salary of $78,489. The person who got that job was the husband of Israel's campaign manager.

Israel had been a Republican but ran for office as a Democrat. He was first elected sheriff in 2012, then re-elected in 2016. According to the Sun Sentinel:

The outreach workers, who mainly attend community events, are in addition to political activists and others Israel hired into community affairs roles, writing and designing printed pieces about the agency, and sharing it on social media. The employee log shows six hired into community affairs roles, their salaries totaling $388,729.

Israel's opponents say he's built a publicly funded political machine, paying back supporters with jobs and using them to keep him in office. They say the money could be better spent, particularly after the sheriff complained about not having enough funding to secure the county courthouse, where a murder suspect recently escaped.

Asked about the allegations, Israel responded, "What have I done differently than Don Shula or Abraham Lincoln or Martin Luther King, Gandhi?"

He also said, "Lions don't care about the opinions of sheep." That's a paraphrase of a quote from the Game of Thrones character Tywin Lannister, a villainous public administrator known for promoting his family's interests ahead of the government's or the people's.

Were the employees hired to work at the Sheriff's Office competent? It certainly seems like a relevant question now that we know the authorities were forewarned about the dangers posed by Cruz. The office received at least 18 calls about Cruz's disturbing behavior and possession of weapons from 2008 to 2017. BuzzFeed has obtained records related to those calls. The most recent one, made on November 30, 2017, described Cruz as a "school shooter in the making." Broward County referred the matter to the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office but took no further action‐even though a relative of Cruz had warned Broward County about Cruz's stash of weapons just three days before.

This news follows the resignation of Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Resource Officer Scot Peterson, who refused to engage the killer while the rampage was underway. Israel suspended Peterson after watching video footage of the SRO's behavior, saying that it made him "sick to my stomach."

Given the appalling failures that took place at Israel's office, the "sheep" might like to ask the "lion" some questions. Perhaps he could answer them in a less condescending and authoritarian fashion.
With most sincere apologies to Bert Lahr.

The GoT system of government is irredeemably corrupt and dysfunctional feudalism. The common people are little more than slaves who can be executed at the whim of their feudal overlords.

Sheriff Israel is displaying a very unhealthy attitude, given that he is the head of armed law enforcement in a constitutional republic.

Myanmar bulldozes what is left of Rohingya Muslim villages
[AP] First, their villages were burned to the ground. Now, Myanmar’s government is using bulldozers to literally erase them from the earth — in a vast operation rights groups say is destroying crucial evidence of mass atrocities against the nation’s ethnic Rohingya Muslim minority.

Satellite images of Myanmar’s troubled Rakhine state, released to The Associated Press by Colorado-based DigitalGlobe on Friday, show that dozens of empty villages and hamlets have been completely leveled by authorities in recent weeks — far more than previously reported. The villages were all set ablaze in the wake of violence last August, when a brutal clearance operation by security forces drove hundreds of thousands of Rohingya into exile in Bangladesh.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Gives Life Sentences to 2013 Car Bomb Suspect
[AnNahar] An Ankara court on Friday handed down multiple life sentences to the convicted mastermind of a 2013 attack in Turkey near the Syrian border which killed 53 people, state media reported.

Turkey blamed the twin car bombings on May 11, 2013, in the southern border town in Hatay province on pro-Damascus groups.
...that was this attack in the border town of Reyhanli, a very busy place for bad guys of various persuasions, including those on the Turkish government payroll...
The Ankara court convicted Nasir Eskiocak over planning and executing the attack, and gave him 53 aggravated life sentences, which carry harsher conditions and replaced the death penalty in Turkey, state news agency Anadolu reported.

Eskiocak was found guilty of killing 53 people including five children and "trying to destroy the country's unity and integrity," the agency added.

Ankara blamed the attack on "Acilciler" (meaning the Urgent Ones), an outlawed Marxist Turkish group linked to Syrian intelligence services. But the Syrian regime denied any involvement.

The group is a branch of a far-left underground movement founded in 1972, the Turkish People's Liberation Party/Front (THKP/C).

Following the clampdown after the 1980 military coup in Turkey, "Acilciler" went underground and its leader Mihrac Ural sought refuge in neighboring Syria.

The Turkish foreign ministry in late January sought explanations from Moscow over Ural's presence at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress hosted by Russia in the Black Sea resort of Sochi where representatives of Syrian civil society and politics met.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
How the civilized caused eastern Ghouta crime
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] What has happened and is happening in eastern Ghouta in Damascus is a crime against humanity and a "stamp of shame on all of humankind", as the Lebanese Christian politician, Samir Geagea
... Geagea was imprisoned by the Syrians and their puppets for 11 years in a dungeon in the third basement level of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense. He was released after the Cedar Revolution in 2005 ...
, said.

In his last statement, Geagea said: "Whatever the reasons, arguments or excuses are, nothing justifies the killing of innocent civilians (in large numbers) beyond imagination with heavy weaponry and with this insistence ."

He called for an international military intervention to stop the massacre, because spoken statement are of no use.

A forward-thinking stance from an Arab political figure in light of the let down from some Arabs. They ignore the publicized deaths of thousands of civilians, including old men, women and kiddies, by Russian planes, Bashar’s raids and Nasrallah’s guns like mute devils.

A major crime that will be recorded in the name of Russia, the Assad regime and all those who involved with them.

The excuse they use is that they need to drive out the turbans from Ghouta, but what greater terror is there than killing masses of people blindly, Geagea asked.

I say, yes, there are terrorist activities carried out by al-Qaeda factions like Tahrir al-Sham
and the Corps of Rahman although the latter agreed to reduce activity in Russian escalation zones, however, they are now getting more escalation than ever from Russian planes.

Yes, these factions exist but there is also Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
which was founded by Zahran Alloush in 2013. He died in 2015 due to a Russian air raid.

This ’Islamic’ faction, made up of people from rural Damascus, is now part of the Syrian opposition who are negotiating in Geneva and other places.

Zahran’s brother, Mohammed Alloush, a Syrian leader in the negotiating delegation, has battled ISIS and was almost assassinated by them several times. Alloush faction also have clear disagreements with Tahrir al-Sham, who are considered part of al-Qaeda.

To be honest, even if the fighters in Ghouta were all followers of Ibrahim Hanano, or Sultan al-Atrash or Saleh al-Ali, they would not have been able to escape Khamenei’s militia, Russia’s planes and Assad’s raids.

The Russian goal is to eliminate all of Bashar’s opposition, and enable him to control the people and the country. Everyone who fights Bashar is a terrorist, and everyone who fights with his is civilized.

Again, we do not support all those who take up arms against Bashar, as among them are turbans and warmongers, but all of these do not override the clear truth: that the Syrian war has killed almost half a million people, and displaced about 10 million with Bashar’s blessings and all those who support him.

But the people of Ghouta, there’s no remorse for them.

Damascus/E. Ghouta Tit-for-Tat rains death and destruction on both sides

Five-day assault on East Ghouta kills more than 400

[DAWN] Fresh bombardment on Eastern Ghouta killed dozens Thursday, bringing the number of dead civilians in a five-day assault by the Syrian government to more than 400.

Mounting calls for a humanitarian truce in one of the bloodiest episodes of Syria's seven-year conflict failed to stop 46 more people being killed by air strikes and rocket fire.

Regime backer Russia said there was "no agreement" at the UN Security Council on a 30-day ceasefire for Syria and presented amendments to a draft resolution that would allow aid deliveries and the evacuation of civilians from besieged Eastern Ghouta.

As diplomats wrangled over a UN vote, which could take place on Friday, people huddled in basements while government forces pounded the enclave with rockets and bombs, turning towns into fields of ruins and even hitting hospitals.

Aid group Doctors Without Borders said 13 of the facilities it supports in Eastern Ghouta were damaged or destroyed in three days, leaving remaining staff with very little to save the hundreds of wounded brought to them every day.

Civilians killed, injured as rebels rain down Damascus with mortars, rockets

[ALMASDARNEWS] At least 2 non-combatants were killed, dozens others maimed today in Rukn Eddin residential district when a massive rocket fired by Salafist tough guys in Eastern Ghouta hit a building.

The highly-destructive missile is most probably manufactured and fired into the capital by the Saudi-backed Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism.
A few days ago, a top commander from the terror group threatened ‐ via his Twitter account ‐ to escalate their attacks on Damascus in response to the ongoing military campaign launched by the Syrian Army against the rebel bastion of East Ghouta.

‘Jabhat al-Nusra is the main problem in Eastern Ghouta’ -- Lavrov

[ALMASDARNEWS] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Islamist faction the "main problem in Eastern Ghouta", during a joint press statement with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov in Moscow on Friday.

"We still don’t have evidence that the coalition led by the United States, is viewing Jabhat al-Nusra as a real target," the Russian Foreign Minister said.

He also went on to say that the Astana process for the Syrian peace settlement, initiated by Russia, Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, "prevents these [American] plans [of Syria’s partition]."

Lavrov added that this is part of the information war, noting that the Western colleagues "succeeded in giving vent to their emotions."

"And in practice these emotions have resulted in recent UN Security Council’s discussions attempting to adopt the resolution which declaratively announces an immediate humanitarian pause for at least 30 days," he said.

The top diplomat noted that no guarantees are given that the gangs will also respect this humanitarian pause.

The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Security Council is set to vote on Friday, February 23, on a draft resolution proposing a 30-day cease-fire in Syria, intended to allow humanitarian aid to reach the region.

Hero dog takes bullet for teenager in Des Moines home invasion
[KIRO7] The dog confronted the burglars, who beat him until he was bloody. The dog ran back upstairs.

With the dog out of sight, the home invasion continued as the two burglars trashed the house room by room. When they came into the bedroom where the teen and the dog were hiding in the closet, and the teen was on the phone with 911, the dog stood up to them with the little strength he had left.

He threw himself at the burglars, the teen's family wrote on a GoFundMe page, and was shot four times in the neck, leg and knee.

As the sound of sirens became audible, the burglars ran away.

Officers found smashed sliding door glass when they went into the home to get the teen outside safely. They also found Rex, who at first looked dead.

While SWAT teams looked for the suspects, Rex was taken to the animal hospital.

China-Japan-Koreas
Gertz: China ASAT Test Part of Growing Space War Threat
[FreeBeacon] China earlier this month conducted the latest flight test of one of its newest and deadliest strategic missiles‐the DN-3 anti-satellite interceptor.

The test, as in the past, was masked by the Chinese military as a missile defense interceptor test. American defense officials, however, said the DN-3 is one of several direct ascent anti-satellite missiles capable of destroying most U.S. satellites.

A more significant development was disclosed eight days later through intelligence made public during a Senate hearing: China is moving beyond the testing and development of space weapons and will soon deploy military units dedicated to attacking satellites and conducting space warfare.

Africa Subsaharan
Zimbabwe: Mugabe Breathes Fire Over Mnangagwa Rule
[All Africa] Former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
this week came out guns blazing at his successor President Emmerson Mnangagwa during his first ever briefing to outsiders since his ousting by the military last November, saying his successor's rule is "unconstitutional", detailed notes provided by those who attended the meeting show.

In a scathing brief to African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Commission (AU) chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat at his "Blue Roof" mansion in Harare's Borrowdale suburb on Monday afternoon, Mugabe said the Mnangagwa government was illegal and the AU should help to "restore normality and democracy in Zim-bob-we".

In the emotionally-charged meeting, Mugabe also said the country was effectively under military rule, hence the need to urgently restore democratic order.

He said he was willing to call a spade a spade as he was not afraid of anyone to help bring Zim-bob-we back to a constitutional and legal path. He added that his security and wellbeing were not guaranteed as he was being denied his constitutional benefits while his wife was being harassed.

Mugabe further said the upcoming general elections would not be free and fair as they would be run by the military.

Apart from Mugabe and Mahamat, the meeting was also attended by Mugabe's wife Grace, AU Commissioner (Political Affairs) Minata Samate Cessouma, the AU chair's interpreter, Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, chief secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda, Zim-bob-we's former ambassador to Namibia Chipo Zindoga, and a former diplomat in Angola now a bigwig in the Foreign Affairs and International Trade ministry. The interpreter translated from French to English, and vice-versa as Mahamat asked to speak in French, but listen to Mugabe's address in English.

The meeting, recorded by several officials who attended, began with the usual greetings and an exchange of pleasantries between Mugabe and the AU officials before serious business commenced.

Mahamat who met with Mugabe, Mnangagwa and Foreign Affairs and International Trade minister Sibusiso Moyo and National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda, among other officials, ‐ then indicated he was in Zim-bob-we on a fact-finding mission to understand the political and security situation on the ground in the aftermath of events which occurred in November last year. He did not use the words "coup" or "transition" in his address at the meeting, notes show.

Texas Democrat Found Guilty on All Charges in Fraud Trial
[FREEBEACON] Texas state Sen. Carlos Uresti (D.) was found guilty on all charges in federal court Thursday in a criminal fraud trail concerning his connection with a now-defunct oilfield company that perpetrated a Ponzi scheme against its investors.

It took the 12 jurors about 11 hours to reach a guilty verdict, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Both Uresti, a San Antonio Democrat, and co-defendant Gary Cain are allowed to remain free on bond until sentencing, which is scheduled for June 25.

Afghanistan
Afghan Govt To Close Taliban Qatar Office
[ToloNews] Mohammad Hanif Atmar says Taliban's Qatar office has not played a significant role in peace talks between Afghan government and the group.

Kabul has started discussions with Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
government to close the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
’s office in Doha as it has had "no positive consequence in terms of facilitating the peace talks with the group in Afghanistan", a senior Afghan government official said.

There is no need to keep the office open, said Mohammad Hanif Atmar, the National Security Advisor to President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
He made the remarks in an interview with Asharq al-Awsat, a daily newspaper in the Middle East, this week.

"The (Taliban’s) Qatar office had no benefit for us even after seven years. We are discussing with Qatar government that this office had no positive result in the grinding of the peace processor and it is better to close it," Atmar said in the interview.

"The aim behind opening of this office was to start official peace negotiations with the Taliban from the address, but so far no official negotiation from the office has been started with government. Even a single step has not been taken forward in the grinding of the peace processor through this office," Qadir Shah, a front man for Atmar’s office said.

Atmar said in the interview that Kabul has so far witnessed no sign of sincere cooperation from Islamabad in counterterrorism efforts.

-Land of the Free
This Week in Guns, February 24th, 2018

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Ten days after the massacre in Florida, we know little more about the young man who killed those 17 unarmed students.

The social media wars rage, however. Trolling on the Huff Post Politics’ Facebook page, I get to see, once again, the madness of the face of Liberalism, and it is just as awful now as when I repudiated it all those years ago.

Organizations such as Think Progress have managed to get two high profile corporate entities to eliminate NRA member discounts, including Enterprise car rental and their two other companies, National and Avis.

Additionally, Omaha National Bank has ceased their relationship with the NRA.

On social media, we keep seeing calls for everything from heavier regulation to outright bans, including bans of the AR-15. That includes everything but what we know will actually work and is in line with basic rights.

Even in the firearms and related industries, we are seeing calls for increased regulation.

None of this is surprising to me. Back just prior to the 2004 presidential elections we kept seeing people who up to that point, had solemnly sworn an allegiance to conservatism, break for the left in seemingly large numbers. That is when I started to understand, really clearly understand, the term Domestic Enemies for the first time. At the time I called them line crossers, but in my political journey I have learned better, more applicable terms.

For all the hysteria being ginned up, everything we are seeing, as in 2004, is coming from the top, not from the grassroots. The leftist grassroots believe what they believe, but action is only taken by politicians, lawyers and lobbyists.

So if you are horrified by the shootings in Florida, there are actions you can take. Good luck with that, and with being a good little target.

Loads

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mixed. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were mostly higher. Prices for used rifles were mostly higher.

Ten days after the massacre at Florida, used firearms prices remain stable. AR-15 prices have risen an average of $10 per unit, after having seemingly settling in at $440. Concomitantly, AR ammunition has remained steady, even going down slightly for bulk purchases. In short, in the used firearm market the buyers and sellers in Armslist do not appear to be especially worried about Congressional action on gun control, despite everything that is being said currently.

I will say, however, that general price levels for pistols appear to be set for an increase, as I am seeing prices for lower and intermediate valued pistols rise. This report focuses on the cheapest firearm in the three pistol categories, so general price levels won't be reflected.

#1  Are they the same people that was screaming and hollering about the square root gun?

Oh right, it's freezing out there, and their IQ match the temperature.

China-Japan-Koreas
Trump announces 'heaviest ever' North Korea sanctions
[Al Jazeera] The US has imposed its "heaviest ever" sanctions against North Korea, President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
says, as the US seeks to prevent North Korea from further developing its nuclear programme.

The measures - aimed at disrupting North Korean shipping companies and vessels - will heighten pressure on North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
, a US treasury department statement, said on Friday.

"This will significantly hinder the Kim regime's capacity to conduct evasive maritime activities that facilitate illicit coal and fuel transports, and erode its abilities to ship goods through international waters," Steven Mnuchin, treasury secretary, said.

"The president has made it clear to companies worldwide that if they choose to help fund North Korea's nuclear ambitions, they will not do business with the United States."

The new sanctions target almost all shipping currently being used by North Korea, Mnuchin said.

The measures prohibit US citizens from dealing with more than 50 vessels and companies, and one person, located in countries including North Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Assets held by the firms within the US will also be blocked.

Trump described the measures as the "heaviest sanctions ever imposed on a country before" in an address in Washington on Friday.

He cautioned the US will "have to go to phase two" if the sanctions don't have Washington's desired impact, adding that "may be a very rough thing ... very unfortunate for the world", Rooters news agency reported.

#1  I'd prefer the Cold War usage of the term "sanction".

#3  A US nuke sub standing off of each Korean port would work, too. Taking out NKor's navy would be a signal even Pudgy could understand. The Sinpo submarine base would be a good place to start.
