Landmark U.S. carrier Viet Nam visit signals warming ties
Al-Rooters. Message sent to President-for-Life Xi
The visit of a U.S. aircraft carrier to Vietnam for the first time since the end of the Vietnam War is a powerful symbol of the growing strategic ties between the former foes. But the arrival on Monday of the USS Carl Vinson also illustrates Hanoi's complex and evolving relationship with Beijing over the disputed South China Sea.

For months now, Vietnamese envoys have been working to ease the concerns of their giant Chinese neighbor over the visit and the prospect of broader security co-operation between Hanoi and Washington, according to diplomats and others familiar with discussions.

Vietnamese diplomats and military officers have repeatedly stressed the country's independent foreign policy and its desire for broad foreign relations - hoping to maintain stable ties with China while standing up to it over the South China Sea, the sources said.

The Vinson will mark the biggest U.S. military presence in the country since 1975 when it berths in Danang for a five-day stay.

The Coming Trump Landslide
[Townhall] I know Donny Deutsch only too well. A stereotypical, spoiled-brat, New York liberal. CNBC had two fair-haired boys they were grooming to be the stars of their network in the early 2000’s: Donny Deutsch and Wayne Allyn Root.

CNBC gave Donny his own TV show. They made the decision to give me two TV shows to host. My lawyer was on the phone with CNBC’s legal department finalizing my contract to become the new star of CNBC, when my phone rang. It was the Vice President of CNBC telling me the deal was cancelled. She explained CEO Jeffrey Zucker of the NBC parent company had overruled CNBC’s executives because he didn’t want my views on the air at CNBC.

My career was ruined at CNBC by a liberal who wanted to censor my conservative views- even though I’m willing to bet at least 70 percent of the people watching CNBC are conservatives. The CNBC audience is business owners, business executives, Wall Street brokers and high income earners. My kind of people: Republicans. I lost a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and millions of future dollars because of liberal bigotry and delusion.

Not to mention bad taste. Donny Deutsch spoke Zucker’s liberal language. So, Donny got the job and I didn't. But his show bombed. Donny was a dud. Boring. Not to mention too liberal for the viewers of CNBC.

#3  2020 is some time away yet.

In the interim, I'd like to hear how the wall is coming along, whether Obamacare has been repealed and obliterated, whether anyone in the Obama/Clinton claque is doing a perp walk and how much of the Left's infrastructure of power has been dismantled.

Once I get the answers to those questions, I'll decide whether I want a second term for Trump or not.

Who is Carter Page, according to CNN (video)
[CNN] In March of last year, a relatively unknown man made his way to the wings of the world stage thanks to a mention by then-candidate Donald Trump.

The real estate mogul and former reality TV star was ratcheting up primary wins and on pace to clinch the Republican presidential nomination. Asked to list members of his foreign policy team in an interview with The Washington Post that March, Trump included "Carter Page, PhD."

Since then, Page has faced questions over his Russia ties -- ties which are getting more attention as Trump's team endures greater scrutiny over interactions with Moscow.

At every turn, Page has rejected the notion that he engaged in any improper action.

During the campaign, he denied there was anything untoward about his visits to Moscow. Since it ended, he has denied specific allegations into his meetings with Russian government and business figures as well as any kind of liaison role between himself and the Trump campaign -- denials the campaign and now the White House have repeated again and again.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Contradictions In Seth Rich Murder Continue To Challenge Hacking Narrative
[Zero] As rumors swirl that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is preparing a case against Russians who are alleged to have hacked Democrats during the 2016 election - a conclusion based solely on the analysis of cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, a Friday op-ed in the Washington Times by retired U.S. Navy admiral James A. Lyons, Jr. asks a simple, yet monumentally significant question: Why haven't Congressional Investigators or Special Counsel Robert Mueller addressed the murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich - who multiple people have claimed was Wikileaks' source of emails leaked during the 2016 U.S. presidential election?

Mueller has been incredibly thorough in his ongoing investigations - however he won't even respond to Kim Dotcom, the New Zealand entrepreneur who clearly knew about the hacked emails long before they were released, claims that Seth Rich obtained them with a memory stick, and has offered to provide proof to the Special Counsel investigation.

Mueller's Focus on Lindbergh Baby Adviser to U.A.E. Indicates Broader Inquiry
[NYT] WASHINGTON ‐ George Nader, a Lebanese-American businessman, has hovered on the fringes of international diplomacy for three decades. He was a back-channel negotiator with Syria during the Clinton administration, reinvented himself as an adviser to the de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates, and last year was a frequent visitor to President Trump’s White House.

Mr. Nader is now a focus of the investigation by Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel. In recent weeks, Mr. Mueller’s investigators have questioned Mr. Nader and have pressed witnesses for information about any possible attempts by the Emiratis to buy political influence by directing money to support Mr. Trump during the presidential campaign, according to people with knowledge of the discussions.

The investigators have also asked about Mr. Nader’s role in White House policymaking, those people said, suggesting that the special counsel investigation has broadened beyond Russian election meddling to include Emirati influence on the Trump administration. The focus on Mr. Nader could also prompt an examination of how money from multiple countries has flowed through and influenced Washington during the Trump era.

How much this line of inquiry is connected to Mr. Mueller’s original task of investigating contacts between Mr. Trump’s campaign and Russia is unclear. The examination of the U.A.E. comes amid a flurry of recent activity by Mr. Mueller.

The Grand Turk
Turkey is turning into another Pakistan

[NYPost] There isn't much that Turkey's president can do these days to further debase his reputation in the West. Recep Tayyip Erdogan has crushed peaceful protests at home and abroad, closed newspapers, threatened American soldiers and collectively scapegoated Kurds. But over the weekend, Erdogan managed to go even lower.

At a rally at Kahramanmaras, the Turkish leader brought a trembling 6-year-old girl on stage dressed in military garb and told her she would be honored if she died as a martyr. He sounded like a terrorist. We expect this kind of child abuse from the fanatics in Hamas or Hezbollah. Erdogan though is the leader of an important NATO ally.

Turkey is beginning to resemble Pakistan, a perpetually failing state whose military leadership has tolerated and advanced a vision of political Islam deeply hostile to US and Western interests.

To be sure, Turkey is not quite there yet. There is still a majority of Turks who want to eventually join the European Union. The Turkish economy is stronger than Pakistan's, and its banks are more trusted.

And unlike in Pakistan, the driving force to further Islamize society has come from Erdogan, an elected leader, not the military.

Were Cuban 'Sonic Attacks' on our Embassy Due to Malfunctioning Surveillance Gear?
[Miami Herald via PJ] The State Department announced that the cuts made to embassy staff in Havana after strange and unexplained "sonic attacks" sickened diplomats and their families will become permanent.
Cicada? No, that's a symptom not a cause.
But the attacks themselves remain a mystery. However, a team of computer research scientists at the University of Michigan may have an explanation: malfunctioning surveillance equipment.

Miami Herald:

Professor Kevin Fu and members of the Security and Privacy Research Group at the University of Michigan say they have an explanation for what could have happened in Havana: two sources of ultrasound ‐ such as listening devices ‐ placed too close together could generate interference and provoke the intense sounds described by the victims.

Anti-abortion Democrat Fails Litmus Test, is snubbed by Dem party for reelection
[Politico] Dan Lipinski is the kind of candidate Democrats need more of for the party to win the House in November. But the national Democratic Party is refusing to endorse him.

The seven-term congressman from Chicago, who opposes abortion and voted against Obamacare, marriage equality and immigration reform, is one of the most conservative members of the House Democratic Caucus.

The question of whether the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will officially back Lipinski for reelection ‐ he faces a stiff primary challenge from the left ‐ has triggered an outbreak of ill will and finger-pointing from each wing of the party toward the other. With less than a month until the March 20 primary, tensions that have been brewing privately for weeks between the caucus’ centrist and progressive lawmakers are now spilling out into a messy public spat.

Caught in the middle are House Democratic leaders, who govern a caucus more aligned with Lipinski’s opponent, Marie Newman. But they are wary of appearing to kick one of their incumbents to the curb, aware of the potential long-term implications for a party that is struggling to regain its standing with blue-collar voters.

Hayden: There's ‘A Bit of Autocrat Envy' in Trump's Attitude Towards Putin
[Breitbart] On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s "New Day," CNN National Security Analyst former Director of the NSA and the CIA Gen. Michael Hayden (Ret.) argued, "there is a bit of autocrat envy, in terms of the president’s attitudes towards the President of the Russian Federation."

Hayden said that there isn’t any logic to explain Trump not talking about Putin like he does about other world leaders. He continued, "I don’t know what created the dynamic, but we saw it during the campaign, right? And now, it may be just at a point, Chris, where it’s a thing for him now, that, in order for him to say something about Putin now would be implicit admission that he should have been saying other things. And he just won’t do it."

Hayden also gave "a modestly darker" explanation, "He actually admires the way Putin does business. He ‐ you know, in his heart of hearts, he may look at what happened yesterday in the Russian Federation and have a certain sense, why can’t I give speeches like that? Why can’t I do those kinds of things? I think there is a bit of autocrat envy, in terms of the president’s attitudes towards the President of the Russian Federation."

Hayden added, "The way he is able to govern, the things Putin is able to say, the way things seem responsive to Putin without the institutions of government pushing back on him, yeah, I think he’d like that."

Russia says US has set up about 20 military bases in Syria

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel repeats past mistakes as it creates buffer zone in Syria
[atimes] Seeking to push Iranian proxies away from its border, Israel is taking steps similar to those in Lebanon years ago, and facing an unappetizing dilemma.

Iran is expanding its sphere of influence toward the Israeli border, possibly leading to explosive results. In mid-February an Iranian drone was shot down by Israel and an Israeli jet was in turn shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft fire.

However, the Iranians and their Hezbollah proxies are not deterred by possible escalation.
Never! Perish the thought!
An agreement signed in November by the United States, Russia and Jordan allows Iran to solidify its presence up to 5 kilometers from the Israeli border. There is no reason to assume pro-Iranian forces will not come even closer if they can.

Israel finds this situation unbearable. It attempted to influence the signatories to the November agreement to keep pro-Iranian forces 60km from the border, but this increasingly seems like a pipe dream. Instead it has adopted a policy seeking a narrower security zone (of unknown depth) into Syria.

It has pursued this using two major means. The first is increasingly tenacious and frequent bombing runs against Syrian, Hezbollah and Iranian targets. The loss of an F-16 jet and the fear of entanglement with the Russians has not restrained these efforts.

More secretly and controversially, Israel has stepped up aid to Syrian rebel forces near the border. In the early stages of the Syrian Civil War, Israel limited involvement to humanitarian aid, evacuating roughly 5,000 wounded warriors to Israeli hospitals. Attempts by leaders of the southern factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) to persuade Israel to establish a no-fly zone near the border failed.

As the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, backed by Iran and Russia, gained the upper hand, the zone controlled by the FSA narrowed significantly. In January, the administration of US President Donald Trump closed the Central Intelligence Agency operations center in Amman, the Jordanian capital, which coordinated aid to rebel organizations in southern Syria. This terminated the already inadequate aid the US was providing to FSA troops in this sector.

During the past few weeks reports have emerged that Israel is upping its support to militias in the region. The Israeli government, by various means, is providing elements affiliated with the FSA with weapons, ammunition and money to purchase weapons on the black market. Support is probably also extended to more “moderate” jihadist groups, although neither side will admit it.

As a result, over the past six months the area has become a de facto Israeli buffer zone. The spokesman for the Fursan al-Joulan militia (not affiliated with the FSA) said: “Israel stood by our side in a heroic way. We wouldn’t have survived without Israel’s assistance.”

Israel has been the protector of some of these communities diplomatically as well as militarily. It has participated in negotiating reconciliation between the Assad government and some local militias. The goal of these agreements is to allow militias to continue to control their territory, while attaining the Assad regime’s seal of approval. By attaining deals of this sort, Israel hopes to bolster the Assad regime and wean it off its dependence on Iran. After all, Israel enjoyed a stable border with Syria in the past and hopes to do so again in the future.

Israel has also developed direct ties with the residents of the area, assisting in the construction of schools and hospitals. Local councils and community notables have participated in distributing Israeli rice, milk, flour and other products still in their original Israeli packaging. While initially weary of Israeli involvement, locals are warming up to it, mostly because no one else will support them.

The extent of Israeli commitment to militias and communities in the area places it on the horns of a painful dilemma. The FSA cannot hold off pro-Iranian forces independently. Upholding a buffer zone in western Syria will likely require ever-escalating Israeli logistical support, air power and elite-unit presence. In the long run if it determines that safeguarding its allies is a central Israeli interest, it may be tempted to send in an undisguised military presence to signal to Iran and Hezbollah that it means business.

Rantburg Exclusive: SDF Battefield Combat Report 3/3/2018 - Gerndains Taking a Beating
SDF Statement: Despite the UN Security Council Resolution 2401, which obligates all parties to stop hostilities, the Turkish state continues to violate international resolutions and targets our people in Afrin with various types of weapons and air raids, which expose our people to a systematic annihilation. Therefore, our forces are confined to self-defense in case of any attacks in Afrin.

Also the Turkish occupation army tried to make advances towards Maseka village, however, our forces repelled their attacks, accordingly, heavy clashes broke out until writing this report.

Yesterday, The Turkish jets conducted several airstrikes on Balilka village, coincided with the outbreak of heavy clashes between our forces and the Turkish invasion army which is using its police private forces (JOH-POH), where the Turkish media have provoked a campaign calling for this forces, but the Turks were disappointed because these forces were trapped in SDF’s ambush and suffered heavy losses, forcing the Turkish army to bring the hovercrafts to move the wounded and evacuate the others from the battlefield. Our forces targeted one of this hovercrafts which fall in the Turkish land. During yesterday’s battles in Balilka village between our forces and the Turkish special forces, dozens of these private forces were killed and wounded, where the Turkish media admitted part of the losses while trying to hide the real number. Kakhrah village was a target for the Turkish indiscriminate shelling yesterday causing civilian casualties.

SDF MEDIA CENTER
2 March 2018

Two adjustments were made by Turkey after a month of failed efforts. They assigned another battle unit of armor that had rapid fire weapons that could destroy enemy fortifications versus the standard tank. As per the video below, one of those armored assault vehicles were easily eliminated by YPG ATGMs. And per the above report, the other change was to send in special forces, who are now taking loses.

Syrian regime troops are also taking casualties so this puts Russia in a difficult position in Syra as they do business with both Syria and Turkey. Turkey attacked a Syrian military facility near Manbij which is outside of the Afrin Canton conflict and a direct challenge to Pencil Neck.

#1  This SDF report is over 24 hours old. Yesterday I did not post so this is actually yesterdays report which is the latest report released by the SDF. There was no 3/4/2018 report issued today. This usually indicates a major issue contrary to the SDF objectives has occurred. And as per another article posted today:

Turks seize Afrin stronghold, kill scores of Syrian troops

Raju fell. Also, as Raju fell advances were made in two other areas as a big push was executed in Afrin by Turkey during the night in all of these areas.

After the success of these pushes, SDF press office went quite, and the Turks attacked a Syrian regime location near Manbij.

Why is this important? Manbij is where the U.S. presence is. It is a shot over the bow to the U.S.. The Turks are taking Syrian territory and they had to consider a confrontation with Syria was possible in their plans.

The next two weeks will be interesting. Will Russia ditch Syria and go with Turkey? I don't think so. Turkey is too Islamic for Russia to be comfortable with such an allie.

#6  I think maybe people don't realize just how tiny Rantburg really is.

We know, Herb McCoy7309. But this is a very specialized area of interest, and I, at least, am careful with whom I share Rantburg in my very civilian circle. And beyond that, most people seem simply uninterested in the idea that the jihadi threat is meaningful. A recently retired girlfriend of mine just got back from a trip to Paris, and now is on safari in Kenya, after which she will meet her husband in Germany to visit the cousins there. When I suggest situational awareness, she waves it off.

I started paying attention to the world in the latter half of the 1980s, when Mr. Wife came back from business trips with stories about the post office in Athens that was blown up after he mailed a letter, the Greek island ferry that sold its last ticket to the people in front of him in line, then was attacked by anarchists in motorboats with machine guns, the idiots tossing grenades into Paris cafés as they rode by on motorcycles the summer his flights stopped there on his way to and from the Middle East... I heard about these things when he laughingly told the stories to others, because he didn’t want me to worry — and obviously nothing bad ever happened to him. But I needed to know when to worry when he was abroad, which turned out to be how he spent the career he will retire from in a few months. I am the only spouse in my circle who pays attention, though; even the trailing husband who wore a gun on his hip the entire time they were on assignment in Caracas is not concerned about his wife on safari in Kenya with a group of middle aged American ladies.

Funny I haven't heard a word from HRW on Erdogan's tactics in Syria. Can't wait for a major airstrike by either the US or Russia. That's when the fun begins. I don't think this serves either Russia or US purposes at all.

Africa Horn
Al-Shabab Blamed In AU Ambush, Suspected In Attack On Somali Forces
[RADIOSHABELLE] At least five African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
troops were killed in an ambush in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region Friday by al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
myrmidons, officials and security sources told VOA Somali.

The myrmidon group also was suspected of carrying out a suicide kaboom and related attack that left at least five Somali soldiers dead near a military base in Lower Shabelle, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) southwest of the capital, Mogadishu.

The ambush targeted Burundian soldiers escorting a convoy of trucks loaded with supplies near Balad, 30 kilometers north of Mogadishu.

A Somali military source, who requested anonymity, told VOA "at least five soldiers of the Burundi contingent ... have been killed and several others injured."

Burundian troops
Burundi’s first vice president, Gaston Sindimwo, confirmed for VOA that at least five Burundi soldiers, serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), had been killed in the ambush.

Al-Shabaab said it had killed more than 20 AU soldiers, but military officials said that figure was exaggerated.

It was not immediately clear whether the convoy was carrying AU military supplies or humanitarian aid.

Amateur video, disseminated through social media, showed abandoned trucks loaded with cartons burning in the road linking Mogadishu north to Jowhar, where the AU’s Burundi troops have a base.

Residents in Qalimow village told VOA Somali that they saw al-Shabaab fighters dragging the body of a foreign soldier.

Somali military officials said the Burundians were ambushed by heavily armed al-Shabaab bandidos bully boyz who were heading to attack Balad on Friday morning.

After ambushing the AU troops, the bandidos bully boyz attacked and briefly took control of Balad.

Residents reported that the Somali and AMISOM troops remained in the southern corner of the town while bandidos bully boyz advanced.

"They entered the town from three directions and took positions at the police headquarters and the district headquarters. They hoisted their black flag on top of some of the buildings," one witness said.

The bully boyz later voluntarily withdrew as government soldiers and AMISOM troops sent reinforcements near the town.

Bombing at base
At least five soldiers and a jacket wallah were killed in two related incidents early Friday at the military base in Afgoye, Somali government and security officials said.

Somali authorities said the bomber rammed a minivan full of explosives into base’s main gate. It was the second suicide strike against Somali security forces in 24 hours.

"The guards at the base prevented him from entering inside and he went kaboom! at the gate, killing one soldier," said Abdifitah Haji Abdulle, deputy governor for the region. "The bomber and the soldier went titzup."

Three other soldiers were maimed in that attack, a police commander told local radio.

Then, a truck carrying the maimed soldiers from the military base struck a roadside kaboom, according to security officials, who asked for anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. They said at least four more soldiers were killed and another two were maimed. It was not clear whether any of those killed were among the initially injured.

Abdulle could not confirm the corpse count but said the number was "quite significant."

Somali troops stationed at the base were trained by the United Arab Emirates.

On Thursday, at least two soldiers were killed and five other people maimed in an al-Shabaab suicide car kaboom at a checkpoint 15 kilometers outside Mogadishu.

5 Troubling Lessons For America From Ancient Rome
[Townhall] The Romans spent almost 500 years as a republic before Julius Caesar’s adopted son Augustus became the first Roman emperor. The Romans moved on from having kings to becoming the first republic, to sliding backward into monarchy and tyranny and it’s not impossible that America will follow a similar trajectory. In fact, if you study Roman history, it’s not hard to see the parallels.

1) It’s Extremely Dangerous To Introduce Violence Into The Political Process: Tiberius Gracchus was an arrogant Roman Populist who cared little for the niceties of tradition and even less for the opinions of his opponents. He proposed confiscating land from the rich to give to soldiers and poor Romans. This was a terrible policy which helped lead to the fall of the Roman Republic, but unsurprisingly it was quite popular. However, there was quite a bit of resistance to the policy in the Senate and passing legislation of this sort without the approval of the Senate simply wasn’t done in ancient Rome. That is until Tiberius Gracchus found a loophole and did it anyway, earning him the outright hatred of the Senate. Later, a misunderstanding made the members of the Senate believe that their hated enemy was going to overthrow the government and make himself king. They responded to this misunderstanding by surrounding him, ripping the legs off benches and beating him to death. This was the start of a long, violent, slippery slope in Rome as political violence became ever more common. In time, politicians had their own gangs that fought in the street. Senators were knifed on the floor of the Senate and eventually, the leadership of the nation was determined by who could bring the biggest army to Rome. Here in America, we are now starting to see politically-motivated violence. Riots at Berkeley to keep conservatives from speaking. A white supremacist driving his car into the crowd. A Bernie Sanders supporter shooting up a Republican softball game. Protests where the protesters and counter-protesters bring weapons. This goes nowhere good and we would be wise to clamp down hard on this sort of violence before it gets out of hand.
Four more at link. But you knew that.

#2  In my recent sickness I found myself listening to large parts (about the first 2/3 or so) of the History of Rome podcast.

It gave me a lot to think about. I'd like to offer some honorable mentions as far as the fall of Rome: The Gracci brothers' famous grandfather, Scipio Africanus, for coming up with the business model of using a legion to enrich both Rome and the Generals of that legion. When they started pursuing that business model instead of having a working economy, they'd occasionally get stuck and grind to a halt.

Sulla, for having the arrogance of thinking he'd come up with a system of political advancement that couldn't be gamed, the "Cursus Honorarium" or whatever it was called. Well, guess what, it could be gamed, and it took very little time for it to degenerate into another civil war.

What Marius did after his strokes was wrong but Sulla threw a lot of babies out with the bathwater when he took back power. IMHO.

Now that I think about it... Claudius, for centralizing the bureaucracy in such a way that you needed a competent emperor to make things work. AND THEN leaving everything to Nero.

(Oh well. Insert my dad's joke about the woman's third husband dying from a cracked skull, because he wouldn't eat the poison mushrooms).

Turks seize Afrin stronghold, kill scores of Syrian troops

Turkey-led forces seize major Kurdish stronghold in west Afrin, prepare to storm another

[ALMASDARNEWS] On Saturday morning, the Ottoman Turkish Army and Syrian proxy militias under its command kicked-off their assault to capture the stronghold town of Raju in Syria’s Afrin region from Kurdish forces.

Backed up by airpower and artillery, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
-led forces ‐ already stationed at the gates of Raju for several days now ‐ quickly breached the town’s defenses and seized it within an hour.

It has become apparent that Kurdish paramilitary fighters did not even attempt to mount a defense of Raju, effectively abandoning it to the Ottoman Turkish Army and its allies.

Now reports are emerging that pro-Ankara forces are preparing to storm another Kurdish stronghold south of Raju ‐ the town of Jandaris.

Here Ottoman Turkish forces have begun to outflank the town from the southern direction, so far capturing the nearby settlements of Ramadiye and Hamilek.

Overall it has become apparent that Ankara will continue its Olive Branch operation further into the depth of Syria’s Afrin region (particularly from the western direction) to further isolate Kurdish forces from the Ottoman Turkish border.

Scores of Syrian troops killed by Turkish airstrikes on ex-Russian base in Afrin

[ALMASDARNEWS] Over a dozen Syrian government troops of the National Defence Forces (Syrian national militia) have been killed after a series of Arclight airstrikes by Ottoman Turkish warplanes on their positions in the country’s Afrin region.

The Syrian forces unit which came under attack was stationed at an ex-Russian military camp (originally serving as a deescalation point) in the town of Kafr Jannah, only very recently having been assigned to the site. Ottoman Turkish airpower deliberately targeted the base.

Reports state that at least fifteen Syrian troops were killed in the airstrikes; some pro-Ottoman Turkish sources claim that the corpse count for government forces is as high as 30.

At the present time it is unclear whether or not the Ottoman Turkish military was aware of the presence of Syrian government troops at the base in Kafr Jannah.

Rawalpindi girl panicked by gunshots dies after jumping from fifth floor
[DAWN] A girl died and another was injured in the early hours of Saturday after an enraged man fired aerial shots upon discovering his apartment was being used for a party in the Bahria Town housing society in Rawalpindi.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Civil Lines Kazim Naqvi talking to DawnNews, revealed that the apartment owner, Nadir, who owns a car showroom on Committee Chowk, had returned to his flat in Bahria Town's Safari Villas One early in the morning. Upon seeing two boys and two girls occupying the apartment, he "could not contain his anger" and had gun sex.

The DSP informed that out of fear, the two girls, Bisma and Shimla, jumped out of the window of the fifth-storey apartment. Bisma died on the sport while Shimla suffered from a broken leg.

He added that police reached the apartment and tossed in the clink

Nadir and recovered the weapon used. The police also arrested an accomplice, Zulqarnain.

Two other accomplices ‐ Shiraz, who had given the youngsters access to the apartment, and Azan ‐ managed to flee.

"A postmortem examination of the dead girl will be carried out which will uncover the cause of death," he said, adding that the injured girl's statement will also be recorded.

"The girls' families have been notified and a case will be registered," he said.

DHQ Faisalabad nurses protest ‘sexual assault’ on colleague by ward boy
[DAWN] FAISALABAD: The nurses of the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital on Friday held a protest demonstration against a ward boy who allegedly attempted to sexually assault one of their colleagues.

The security guards and ward boys of the DHQ hospital subjected the news hounds and cameramen to torture and injured four of them for covering the protest.

The nurses claimed that the ward boy tried to assault their fellow nurse when she was alone in a room. The victim informed her colleagues about the incident and they suspended their services in all the wards. The nurses and ward boys also exchanged harsh words and some of the nurses subjected the suspect to torture and tried to blacken his face. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
their attempt was foiled by his colleagues. The ward boys also refused to perform their duties in solidarity with their colleague.

Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani took notice of the incident and formed an eight-member committee under the additional deputy commissioner (headquarters) to probe the matter and submit its report within 24 hours.

Iraq
Iraq adopts its 2018 budget, slashes allocations for Kurds
[ARABNEWS] Iraq’s parliament on Saturday adopted an $88.5 billion budget for 2018, with Kurdish politicians boycotting the vote to protest against a cut in the amount allocated to their autonomous region.

The reduction comes after a controversial independence reference by the Kurds last year sparked a furious dispute with the central government.

The budget is based on projected oil exports of 3.9 million barrels per day, including 250,000 bpd produced in the Kurdistan autonomous region of northern Iraq, at a price of $46 per barrel.

It also projects $77.5 billion (63 billion euros) in revenues and a deficit of $10.6 billion, and allocates $20.8 billion for investments.

Kurdish politicians boycotted the vote because it reduced Kurdistan’s part of the national budget from 17 percent to 12.6 percent.

Article 9 of the Iraqi constitution stipulates that Kurdistan’s share of the budget must reflect the size of the population of the autonomous region.

But the text of the budget approved by parliament on Saturday states that the autonomous Kurdish government must export 250,000 bpd and hand over the money it earns from the sales to the federal authorities.

"If Kurdistan does not hand over (the money), the finance ministry will take it from its part of the budget," it said.

Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga forces took control of the northern province of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
home to key oilfields, in June 2014 after federal forces withdrew in the face of an offensive by the ISIS group.

Economy
NAFTA an exploited doorway into coveted U.S. market. Asian companies invested in Mexico, Canada as work around
[ConservativeTreehouse] President Trump will pull the U.S. out of NAFTA and direct the U.S. Trade Representative to engage in bilateral trade deals with Canada and Mexico individually. There is no other possible alternative and here’s why.

First, the essential problem with NAFTA was an evolution over time. In its current form NAFTA became an exploited doorway into the coveted U.S. market. Asian economic interests, large multinational corporations, invested in Mexico and Canada as a way to work around any direct trade deals with the U.S.

By shipping parts to Mexico and/or Canada; and by deploying satellite manufacturing and assembly facilities in Canada and/or Mexico; China, Asia and to a lesser extent EU corporations exploited a loophole. Through a process of building, assembling or manufacturing their products in Mexico/Canada those foreign corporations can skirt U.S. trade tariffs and direct U.S. trade agreements. The finished foreign products entered the U.S. under NAFTA rules.

Why deal with the U.S. when you can just deal with Mexico, and use NAFTA rules to ship your product directly into the U.S. market?

This exploitative approach, a backdoor to the U.S. market, was the primary reason for massive foreign investment in Canada and Mexico; it was also the primary reason why candidate Donald Trump, now President Donald Trump, wanted to shut down that loophole and renegotiate NAFTA.

This loophole was the primary reason for U.S. manufacturers to relocate operations to Mexico. Corporations within the U.S. Auto-Sector could enhance profits by building in Mexico or Canada using parts imported from Asia/China. The labor factor was not as big a part of the overall cost consideration as cheaper parts and imported raw materials.

At the moment, there's not really such a thing as Communism or Capitalism as distinct entities. There's only Competent Merchantilism and Incompetent Merchantilism. Western Leftism is simply a way to keep us in the latter category. So to a lesser extent is the Republican party.

Egypt warns Hamas against escalation of violence with Israel
[IsraelTimes] Cairo delegation in Gazoo reportedly tells ruling terror group that provoking another round would be akin to 'playing with fire' and that Israel 'may topple' its leadership

An Egyptian intelligence delegation currently in the Gazoo Strip told the Paleostinian enclave’s Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, rulers that, should it seek out an escalation of violence with Israel, it would be "playing with fire," Hebrew media reported on Saturday, citing Paleostinian sources.

According to the sources, the Egyptian delegation warned Hamas that another round of violence would invite a "hard blow" by Israel against the Paleostinian terror group, "so much so that there is even a possibility [Israel would] topple Hamas," Hadashot TV news reported.

"No one from Hamas’s leadership would be immune," the news report quoted the source as saying.

It was not clear if the warning was issued by Israel and the message was delivered through Egypt, or if Cairo itself was cautioning Hamas.

The delegation has been in Gazoo for over a week, according to the report, for talks on Paleostinian reconciliation.

Earlier Saturday, the Walla news site reported that Hamas has rejected requests by the Egyptian delegation to disclose details about the status of IDF soldiers declared killed in action during fighting in the Strip more than three years ago, and whose remains are apparently being held by the terror group.

Hamas also refused to provide the Egyptians with information about other missing Israeli persons believed to be in Gazoo, according to the report.

The Lebanese al-Akhbar newspaper reported Saturday that Hamas informed Egypt it would not negotiate the matter unless Israel provided a commitment to implement all the clauses of the 2011 Shalit deal, in which the Jewish state released more than 1,000 convicted terrorists.

Militant underground base goes 'kaboom!' after Russian airstrike
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Saturday, Russian warplanes targeted the rebel stronghold of Kafr Zita in northern Hama province with multiple Arclight airstrikes. A range of munitions ranging from thermobaric (fuel-air) to bunker busting bombs were used in the bombardment.

As usual, the Russian airstrikes were in retaliation for the shelling of nearby government-controlled towns by rebel forces with rocket artillery.

According to reports, at least one guided bunker buster bomb hit its mark, striking an underground rebel base (most likely an ammo storage) and sending super-heated debris billowing out into the sky above.

Furthermore, Russian airstrikes also managed to destroy the offending holy warrior Grad rocket launcher after it was located.

Much like the nearby rebel stronghold of al-Latamenah, Kafr Zita is fortress town that posses both a dense network of above-ground defenses and an intricate underground tunnel system within which barracks, vehicle depots, command centers and ammo storage sites are based.

Somali Troops Retake Balad Town From Al-Shabaab Militants. Yet again.
[RADIOSHABELLE] The Somali National Army (SNA) recaptured Balad town north of Mogadishu after a brief takeover by the Lion of Islam group, al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
Mahad Osman, former Information Minister, and current Member of Parliament from Hirshabelle State confirmed to Radio Shabelle the capture of the town.

"I have the report of two civilians killed, a computer school burnt down, a Balad radio station looted and a community leader’s vehicle was also burned down. There was heavy fighting between Somali National Army and the Lions of Islam today," Osman said.

He did not disclose the number of SNA casualties.

Balad residents told Media that they saw mini-bus carrying maimed people to Jowhar town.

Al-Shabaab Lions of Islam overran Balad town which is located about 30 kilometers north of Mogadishu in the mid-morning attack, taking control from government forces.

The murderous Moslems later confirmed through its affiliated websites that they were in full control of the town.

When Lions of Islam took over the city on Friday morning they directly went towards the radio station premises, besieged and looted all the equipment including the radio transmitter and all computers in the building.

Islow said the Lions of Islam also ransacked the archive of the radio station and destroyed most of the broadcasting equipment.

Radio Balad was the only community radio station in the city and the residents will have no access to important news and entertainment they were used to.

) have recaptured over fifty towns and villages across northwest Syria from rival Islamist militia Jabhat Tahrir Souriya following a swift counter-offensive launched about two days ago.

The sudden revival of Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham’s strength comes less than a week after the holy warrior faction appeared to be on the ropes, having lost over half of its territorial holdings throughout Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

Despite the success of Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham’s counter-blow, the jihadist faction is still yet to retake the strategic town of Dart Izza’ ‐ two storming attempts to achieve this have failed so far.

Overall, the battles between Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham and Jabhat Tahrir Souriya across the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib province have been highly-mobile.

According to al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Joudeh both sides are engaged in a cat and mouse game of striking each others’ weak points yet do not commit to pursuit assaults due to a lack of manpower which denies them the ability to properly defend their holdings and properly attack new areas at the same.

FASTER Saves Lives: How Ohio Has Been Arming and Training School Staff For Five Years
[Recoil] Following President Trump’s comments regarding arming teachers in our schools, the American Federation of Teachers issued a press release, predictably bleating about the proposal and wondering aloud about how such a thing was ever possible. ‘How would arming teachers even work?’ mused AFT President Randi Weingarten. Iraq
Iraqi Kurdistan says border crossings still under its full control
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Kurdistan Region has said it maintains full control over its border crossings, months after Baghdad demanded the handover of those crossings to federal forces.

Samal Abdul-Rahman, Kurdistan’s general director of customs, told Saudi-owned Asharq al-Awsat that Kurdistan’s main five border crossings remain under the control of the region’s authorities, noting that Baghdad had not sent its observers to partake in the management of those crossings as agreed.

He revealed that revenues from operations at those crossings still go to the region’s government despite progress made in negotiations for the joint administration of those facilities. He explained that the agreement has not yet gone into action waiting for the broader political deal between Erbil and Baghdad.

Three of the five crossings in Kurdistan fall on the borders with Iran, one with Syria and one with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
Relations between Baghdad and Erbil deteriorated following a referendum the latter held in September, in which a majority voted for independence from Iraq, a move Baghdad deemed illegal.

In response to the poll, the federal government took over territories disputed with Kurdistan, and imposed a flight embargo on the autonomous region and asked to hand over management over its borders with Turkey, Iran and Syria.

The Grand Turk
Why has Erdogan released genealogy of thousands of Turks?
A very good question. Why is Dawn asking it?
[DAWN] ONLY in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
the identity of a citizen is a matter of national security. That’s why the population registry in Ankara was until now a closed book, its details a state secret. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s definition of "Ottoman Turkishness" was "anyone who is attached to the Ottoman Turkish state as a citizen". Turks came from a clear ethnic identity, untainted by racial minorities or doubtful lineage. That’s one reason why the Nazis lavished praise on Ataturk’s republic, their newspapers mourning his death in black-bordered front pages.

After all, as Hitler was to ask in several newspaper interviews ‐ and to his generals before he invaded Poland ‐ who now remembers the Armenians? Ataturk had supposedly inherited an Armenian-free Turkey, just as Hitler intended to present his followers with a Jew-free Europe. The Armenian genocide of 1915 ‐ denied by the Ottoman Turkish government today ‐ destroyed a million and a half Christian Ottoman citizens in the first industrial holocaust of the 20th century. Almost the entire Armenian community had been liquidated. Or had it?

#2  I wonder if the release of genealogies, showing that many Turks are actually of Armenian descent, is actually intended to create a new class of those assumed to be disloyal so that, like the Gulenists, they can be arrested and stripped of their assets?

And now that Armenia has broken off normalization, there is a country that will welcome them, and which can be blamed — possibly even a potential war in the making, as there now is against the Kurds...

#3  A comment I'd like to make, partly in response to TW's, and partly in response to the article itself: you can tell the Turks that are part Greek/Arab/Armenin/Kurdish/whatever instead of being Turkish because they're the ones that aren't short, black-haired, yellow-skinned, and with black slanted eyes.

In short, you can tell the ones that aren't really Turks but instead are some racially inferior halfbreed sub-human thing because they don't look like East Asians, and they look like, well, Erdogan.

Chicago: 'Going rate' to buy a job in Dorothy Brown's office? $10,000, employee tells feds
[Chicago Tribune] One employee told federal investigators that the “going rate” to buy a job in Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown’s office was $10,000, to be paid to her personal bagman.

Another said in an FBI interview it was well-known that showering gifts on Brown could earn you a promotion, citing a trip Brown took to India that was partially paid for by relatives of one of her top employees.

Financial records appeared to back up the claims, including transactions showing the alleged bagman — who is also a clerk’s office employee — paid $40,000 directly to Brown and a company she controlled. The clerk later deposited $30,000 of those funds into her campaign war chest.

Those allegations are among several startling new details revealed by federal prosecutors in a court filing in the pending charges against Beena Patel, one of Brown’s former aides whose relative helped fund the India trip in 2013.

"A U.S. airstrike killed a Tehrik-e Taliban (TTP) deputy commander and Al Qaeda controller named Rehan in Bermal district, Paktika province, Feb. 22. Rehan is the second significant TTP deputy commander killed in Paktika this year. Sanja Meshoud was killed by a U.S. airstrike on Jan. 27 in Bermal, Paktika," according to a statement by the coalition forces.

The statement further added that "As TTP deputy commanders, Rehan and Meshoud yielded influence within Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda provides funding to the TTP. The TTP, in turn, facilitate Al Qaeda travel and operations in the region. The removal of Rehan and Meshoud degrades Al Qaeda’s ability to fund and direct TTP and other violent murderous Moslems throughout Paktika and the surrounding areas."

According to the statement, U.S. and Afghan air strikes continue to demonstrate the collective will of the international community to fight terrorism in Afghanistan.

The anti-government armed holy warrior and terrorist groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

Al Shabaab Attack Could Be A Revenge Mission, Says Kenyan Official

turbans could have been a Dire Revenge mission, regional county commissioner Mohamud Saleh has said.

During the Friday 2 am incident, about 50 heavily armed turbans attacked the two camps on the border town of Fino, Lafey sub-county, before retreating to Somalia, five kilometers away.

Those killed include four APs and a national police reservist. The confrontation lasted three hours.

One AP officer, a national police reservist, and local sustained minor injuries.

A Safaricom mast was destroyed when the turbans threw a hand grenade at it to interrupt communication.

Saleh said 40 al-Shabaab turbans and two of their senior commanders were killed on Tuesday during a KDF and Amisom operation in Fafadun, Gedo region, Somalia.

Troops ran over the bad boys’ camp. "We suspect these ragtag turbans were on a Dire Revenge mission following the heavy casualties they suffered at the hands of our troops," Saleh said.

"We have accounted for all our officers at the two camps of AP and regular police. We are pursuing the bad boys, some of whom sustained injuries following the heavy exchange of gunfire."

Saleh said the turbans do not deserve free publicity because "that is what they yearn".

Tension and Drums of War in DR Congo
[All Africa] Last week, at least 72 people were killed in renewed fighting between ethnic groups in eastern Congo, days after festivities between the armies of DRC and Rwanda on their common border.

Radio Okapi, owned and run by the UN Observer Mission in DRC, Monusco, reported that the ethnic festivities in Rutshuru in North Kivu, where at least 23 people died, pitted Congolese tribes of the Hunde and Nande on one side and groups of Hutus of Rwandan origin, mainly members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).

FDLR rebels have operated in eastern DRC for 23 years, with majority of the senior members accused of taking part in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis. The rebels often clash with Congolese ethnic groups who want them out of Congo.

North Kivu Governor Julien Paluku, said; "We are still ascertaining the number of people killed but so far 23 people, including the members of the militia, have been confirmed dead. Calm has been restored since Wednesday."

According to international Catholic charity Caritas, another 49 people were killed in fresh in ethnic festivities between the Lendu and Hema in Ituri.

The violence in the eastern Ituri region has left over 100 people dead since mid-December.

Armenia scraps deal with Turkey designed to normalize relations

[Ynet] Armenia on Thursday scrapped a peace agreement it signed with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

    Curses! Foiled again!
to normalize relations between the two countries, Armenian Yerkir Media TV quoted the president's front man as saying.

"Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan told a national security council meeting that the Armenian-Ottoman Turkish protocols were annulled," Yerkir Media TV quoted Vladimir Hakobyan as saying.

Armenia's Foreign Ministry front man Tigran Balayan wrote on social media that President Sargsyan has declared the Armenia-Turkey protocols "null and void."

    Olde Tyme Religion
Indonesia considering changing criminal code toward sharia
[ATimes] Indonesian society would undergo a dramatic and regressive transformation if Parliament goes ahead with proposed amendments to the country’s colonial-era Criminal Code which, among other things, will ban same-sex relations, pre-marital sex, cohabitation among unmarried couples, sex education and even condom distribution.

With consideration of the revised code delayed until the next session of Parliament in April, senior government officials seem confident the legislation will eventually be kicked down the road — as it has been since the first draft amendment was introduced in 1984.

Still, by design or not, the latest version has risen to the top of the legislative agenda at the start of the 2018-2019 election season when political parties are already jostling to attract votes in a country with an 88% Muslim majority and a now seriously tarnished reputation for tolerance.

Most of the 10 political parties have been unwilling to take a public position on the bill, leaving confusion to reign over whether lawmakers making up the parliamentary drafting committee truly reflect the sentiments of their party leaders.

“There has been a fundamental shift to conservatism,” says former attorney-general Marzuki Darusman, who headed the first Indonesian Commission on Human Rights. “There are machinations behind this to appease people allying themselves with conservative elements.”

Erasmus Napitupulu, head of the Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, is critical of the way the revision to the century-old code perpetuates colonialism, fails to incorporate human rights and protection for vulnerable groups, and continues to embrace a punitive approach to law enforcement.

On a recent visit to Jakarta, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid bin Ra-ad al Hussein, a Jordanian Muslim, urged Indonesians to “move forwards not backwards” on human rights and resist attempts to introduce new forms of discrimination in law.

“The hateful rhetoric against this (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender – LGBT) community that is being cultivated for seemingly cynical political reasons will only deepen their suffering and create unnecessary divisions,” he said, calling the proposed legal changes a setback in the struggle against spreading hard-line Islamization.

But what surprises many observers is the fact that there has been virtually no public discussion on what impact the proposed changes would have on tourism, one of the country’s biggest foreign exchange earners, as well as the broad economy.

Fatah Gives Fully Furnished Apartment to Family of Terrorist Who Killed Rabbi
[Breitbart] Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’ Fatah party gave a fully furnished apartment to the family of the terrorist responsible for the murder of an Israeli rabbi last month, saying it was "fulfilling the national duty towards the families of deaders."

According to a report published earlier this week by the Paleostinian official news agency Wafa, the Fatah movement in the Jenin region gave the apartment to the family of the "martyr" Ahmad Nassar Jarrar, the 22-year-old commander of a Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, cell who murdered father of six Rabbi Raziel Shevach in January in the West Bank.

"Fatah Jenin secretary Nour al-Din Abu al-Rab told Wafa that the donation of the apartment to the Jarrar family was aimed at underlining that the Fatah movement was fulfilling the national duty towards the families of the deaders whose homes were razed by the Israeli occupation," the report, which was translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), said.

The report noted Fatah secretary Abu al-Rab’s praise of "all those who had contributed to this national task," who, he said, proved "our people is united and consolidated and does not forget its deaders who gave their lives for Paleostine."

"The martyr’s mother, on her part, praised Fatah for providing her family with an apartment after the occupation destroyed their home," the Wafa report said.

On its official Facebook page, Fatah also posted a video showing Jarrar’s mother thanking the party for supporting her family.

MEMRI noted the praise lavished on Jarrar by Fatah, the PA and PA-affiliated media.

On a recent visit to the Tulkarm branch of the National Gathering of Paleostinian Martyrs’ Families with PA security officials, the town’s governor Issam Abu Bakr emphasized "the tremendous sacrifice by our deaders for freedom and independence on the way to establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital."

Bakr further noted the importance of assisting the families of the deaders in "appreciation for their sacrifice."

The PA also slammed an Israeli bill which proposes the deduction of funds paid out to Death Eaters and their families from Paleostinian taxes. The Paleostinian Information Office described the legislation as "terrorism," and added: "The Paleostinian people will not abandon its deaders and prisoners, who sacrificed their lives and their youth in resistance to the occupation."

PA Prisoners Authority chairman Issa Qaraqe said: "We oppose depicting the imprisoned fighters and the deaders as Death Eaters and criminals," and called the bill "a campaign of incitement and hostility against the prisoners and the families of the deaders."

Outrage silenced by Saudi scholar after Twitter call not to pray for mercy on Sridevi
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A social media controversy has been raised after Emirati singer Ahlam al Shamsi called on Twitter not to pray for mercy upon Indian Bollywood star Sridevi Kapoor after her death in Dubai.

The 49-year-old tweeted after the death of Sridevi, that it is not right to pray for mercy upon a non-Moslem irrespective of the good they have presented or not.

Saudi Islamic Scholar Sheikh Ahmed al-Ghamdi, however, has refuted the claim by the Emirati singer.

He said that as per the Holy Koran praying for mercy for non-Moslems living or dead is permissible.

Sheikh al-Ghamdi added that there is a distinct difference between praying for mercy or forgiveness.

He said that according to Prophet Mohammed (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) praying for forgiveness for non-believers is forbidden.

"The Prophet (PTUI!) forbade praying to God for forgiveness of his own mother, according to the Saheeh Moslem hadeeth however it only forbade praying for forgiveness and not praying for mercy upon a non-Moslem," Sheikh al-Ghamdi said.

He told Al Arabiya that the exchange of accusations because of the issue of praying for mercy for non-Moslems has been blown up for no reason and that he was surprised people are preoccupied with such an issue.

Senior Salafist Jihadist in Gaza Turns Himself in to Hamas Forces
[Breitbart] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", was handed a significant victory this week in its fight against the Salafist jihadists in the Gazoo Strip after one of their most senior members turned himself over to Hamas security forces.

Abu Baker al-Maqdesi, another senior jihadist in the Gazoo Strip affiliated with IS ideology, told Breitbart Jerusalem that Mahmoud Taleb, who has been wanted for two years for firing rockets at Israel and trying to perpetrate an attack against Hamas, turned himself in.

According to al-Maqdesi, Taleb decided to turn himself in following mediation between tribal elements and Hamas’ leader in the Gazoo Strip, Yahya Sinwar.

As part of the mediation, Hamas was said to have promised not to leave Taleb in prison for a long period of time in exchange for his commitment to avoid participation in any so-called armed activity.

Al-Maqdesi said that Hamas is expected to demand that Taleb sign a written commitment not to carry out any attacks against Hamas personnel, the security interests of Egypt or Egyptian soldiers. "But the more problematic clause is Hamas’ demand ‐ as we understand from the sources that mediated on the issue ‐ that Taleb not fire rockets at Israel and abide by the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Jews," Maqdesi stated. The jihadist was apparently referring to Israel as "the Jews."

Taleb is the second senior jihadist to turn himself in to Hamas in recent weeks. In January, Talaat Abu Jazar, another senior jihadist, did the same under similar circumstances. Abu Jazar was released after a week in prison and acceptance of all Hamas’ demands not to participate in any armed activity of any kind in the Gazoo Strip.

According to al-Maqdesi, not all the jihadist factions are pleased with these agreements. Some claim that Hamas promised to reconsider the sentences handed down by military courts against jihadist operatives who have been nabbed

Bahrain arrests 116 suspects in counter-terror operations
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In-line with its commitment to combatting terrorism and external interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs, the security authorities have launched a series of successful counter-terror operations resulting in the arrest of 116 suspected terrorists.

    The individuals incarcerated
    Please don't kill me!
are suspected of a range of terror crimes, including planning and executing terror attacks as well as manufacturing, storing and transporting bombs.

    IRGC supported terrorist network
Comprehensive investigations have revealed that the suspected Lions of Islam were members of a network formed and supported by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC). The network was planning to target Bahraini officials, members of the security authorities and vital oil installations, with the objective of disturbing public security and harming the national economy. As a result of the investigations, security forces were able to disrupt the network’s activities and limit the movements of terrorist operatives.

By providing material, recruitment and training support to terrorists, the IRGC and its affiliates, including the Asaib Ahl al-Haq (League of Righteous People) in Iraq and Hezbollah in Leb, are directly responsible for the intensification of terrorist activity in Bahrain. The investigations revealed that terror cells within the network were operating under the supervision of IRGC-affiliated groups and runaway terrorist leaders in Iran, Iraq and Leb.

The main terrorist leaders include Aqeel Al Sari, Murtadha Al Sindi and Qassim Al Muamen. All are responsible for recruiting Lions of Islam in Bahrain, arranging firearms and explosives training for terrorists, establishing secret warehouses and hideouts, and supplying terrorist groups with funding, firearms and explosives to carry out attacks.

    Terrorist training locations
The investigation also revealed that 48 of the 116 suspected Lions of Islam arrested had received training at IRGC facilities in Iran and their affiliated locations in Iraq and Leb.

The terrorist groups within the network were responsible for the following:

    • Organizing warehouses to store weapons and explosives

    • Monitoring potential locations for terrorist attacks

    • Transporting and distributing cash and explosives

    • Manufacturing explosives

    • Executing terrorist attacks

The investigations also led to the discovery of a number of sites used to manufacture and store explosives intended to be used for terrorist attacks. The scene of the crime team classified the seized items, including:

    • More than 757kg of urea nitrate

    • Kalashnikovs, pistols, ammunition and detonators

    • Magnetic bombs and grenades

    • Anti-personnel explosives as well as devices which can pierce armoured vehicles

    • Vehicles used for transporting explosives

UN Torture Prevention Team to Resume Rwanda Visit
[All Africa] A team of United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Sherlocks has said it will resume its review of Rwanda's implementation of anti-torture policies.

The UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) had cut short its mission in the country last October citing obstruction by the government and fears of reprisal on interviewees.

Kigali faulted the move saying it was in bad faith and that it would "consider its options in respect of the Optional Protocol."

Rwanda is among 87 states that voluntarily ratified the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture.

The SPT makes regular visits to the states to monitor and advise on how countries "can ensure that detained persons are free from torture and ill-treatment and have decent conditions of detention."

The Sherlocks visit prisons, cop shoppes, detention centres for migrants colonists and juveniles, interrogation facilities and psychiatric hospitals.

Clashes continue in Sebha as Tebu denounce PC and call for an independent fact-finding mission
[Libya Herald] Communal fighting has continued in Sebha with locals saying ten civilians and eight combatants had died as violence continues between the Tebu and Awlad Suleiman tribes following a spike last month.

Sebha Medical Centre was also hit by shelling as large and small arms were used by groups involved. Large parts of downtown Sebha remain inaccessible amid haphazard shooting and the presence of snipers.

Yesterday morning five members of the Awlad Suleiman were killed when they launched an attack on the ’People’s Hall,’ currently held by the Tebu.

The Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council (PC) finally broke its silence yesterday, accusing "mercenaries" and "foreigners" of attacking the government-backed Sixth Brigade, which is largely comprised of Awlad Suleiman. The PC urged Libyans to stand against mercenaries, protect Libya’s southern resources and defend the country’s illusory sovereignty.

Accusations have flown around that Chadian mercenaries have been involved. However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
the National Tebu Assembly (NTA) has issued a counter-statement and denounced the PC’s version of events. It urged for an independent fact-finding commission to truly assess what was going on in Sebha.

This would not be possible if the PC continued to be biased in favour of the Awlad Suleiman, the NTA said.

Teacher found guilty of grooming children to launch terror attacks in London
[ARABNEWS] A British supporter of ISIS was found guilty on Friday of trying to recruit children he was teaching into an "army" of bandidos bully boyz to help carry out a wave of attacks across London.

Umar Haque, 25, showed the children beheading videos and other violent Lion of Islam propaganda, forced them to re-enact deadly attacks on the British capital and made them role-play attacking coppers.

"His plan was to create an army of children to assist with multiple terrorist attacks throughout London," said Dean Haydon, head of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command. "He tried and he did, we believe, radicalize vulnerable children from the ages of 11 to 14."

Despite having no qualifications and being employed as an administrator, police said Haque used the guise of teaching Islamic studies to groom 110 children into becoming bandidos bully boyz at the Lantern of Knowledge, a small private Islamic school, and at a madrassa connected to the Ripple Road Mosque in east London.

Of those children, 35 are now undergoing long-term safeguarding measures involving social services and other authorities. Six of the group gave evidence at Haque’s trial, detailing how he taught them fighting was good and had given them training such as doing push-ups to build their strength.

His intention was to use them to attack London targets such as the Big Ben tower, soldiers from the Queen’s Guards, a large shopping center, banks, and media stations, prosecutors said.

Believed to have been self-radicalized online, Haque was inspired by an attack in March last year when Khalid Masood plowed a rented car into pedestrians on London’s Westminster Bridge, killing four, before stabbing a police officer to death on the grounds of Parliament.

He had discussed with Abuthaher Mamun ‐ a 19-year-old who also taught at the mosque ‐ carrying out a similar attack using guns and a hire car packed with explosives. He had made the children re-enact Masood’s assault and told another co-defendant the public deserved to be annihilated.

"He tried to prepare the children for martyrdom by making them role-play terrorist attacks. Part of that role-playing was re-enacting attacking coppers," Haydon said.

He said the children had been "paralyzed by fear" into not telling their parents or teachers, with Haque saying he was part of ISIS and threatening that they would suffer the same fate as those in the Lion of Islam videos he showed them.

Haque was found guilty at London’s Old Bailey Court of a number of offenses including preparing terrorist acts, having previously pleaded guilty to four charges.

Mamun, who police said was involved in fundraising and attack planning, and Muhammad Abid, 27, were also convicted of helping him. They will all be sentenced at a later date.

The School Shooting That Resulted In Over 2,000 Killed That Gun Grabbers Won't Tell You About & Why
[FreedomOutpost] However, I'd like to point out a specific school shooting that took place at the beginning of the 20th century in Chile, and it will sound like I'm pulling something from the kind of view that Everytown used to come to the numbers they did for this year, and I admit, in a sense I am. However, in giving full disclosure, I want you to see not just the site of the shooting in Chile, but who did it and why because this is the very reason we have the Second Amendment.

The shooting I'm referring to is commonly referred to as the Santa María School massacre and it took place on December 21, 1907 just days before Christmas.

The Santa María School massacre was a massacre of striking workers, mostly saltpeter works miners, along with wives and children, committed by the Chilean Army in Iquique, Chile on December 21, 1907.

One thing you need to keep in mind as I present what took place is that this was not a mentally ill individual who committed the crime like has been alleged in the Florida school shooting. Nope, it wasn't a high rolling gambler with bump stocks on his rifles like the Las Vegas shooting of 2017. It didn't even take place from Islamic jihadis like the Beslan school siege in Russia in 2004.

This was a state-sanctioned, cold-blooded murder of the people who were on strike along with women and children in a school yard. It was big government trying to force unarmed people to do their bidding.

Wikipedia has more on the what happened:

The number of victims is undetermined but is reliably estimated at over 2,000.[1] It occurred during the peak of the nitrate mining era, which coincided with the Parliamentary Period in Chilean political history (1891‐1925). With the massacre and an ensuing reign of terror, not only was the strike broken, but the workers' movement was thrown into limbo for over a decade.[citation needed] For decades afterward there was official suppression of knowledge of the incident, but in 2007 the government conducted a highly publicized commemoration of its centenary, including an official national day of mourning and the reinterment of the victims' remains.

The site of the massacre was the Domingo Santa María School,[2] where thousands of miners from different nitrate mines in Chile's far north had been camping for a week after converging on Iquique, the regional capital, to appeal for government intervention to improve their living and working conditions. Rafael Sotomayor Gaete, the minister of the interior, decided to crush the strike, by army assault if need be.[3] On December 21, 1907, the commander of the troops at the scene, General Roberto Silva Renard, in accordance with this plan, informed the strikers' leaders that the strikers had one hour to disband or be fired upon. When the time was up and the leaders and the multitude stood firm, General Silva Renard gave his troops the order to fire. An initial volley that felled the negotiators was followed by a hail of rifle and machine gun fire aimed at the multitude of strikers and their accompanying wives and children.
    Continues.

Iranian official calls on West to scrap nuclear arms before any missile talks
DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran will not negotiate over its ballistic missiles until the United States and Europe dismantle nuclear weapons and long-range missiles, a top Iranian military official said on Saturday.
    He’s so cute!
Separately, Iran confirmed that the Iranian foreign minister had met his former U.S. counterpart John Kerry on the sidelines of a Munich meeting last month.
That was a waste of time — Mr. John F. Kerry (former secretary of state, former senator, former Democratic presidential candidate) will never have power or influence again.
The New Yorker magazine earlier reported that Kerry had urged Tehran not to abandon a 2015 nuclear deal, despite tensions with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

While Iran has accepted curbs on its nuclear work - which it says is for purely peaceful purposes - it has repeatedly refused to discuss its missile program, something the United States and European countries have called for.

"The condition for negotiating Iran’s missiles is the destruction of the nuclear weapons and long-range missiles of the United States and Europe," Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Masoud Jazayeri was quoted by the state news agency IRNA as saying.
“You disarm yourself first, then we’ll talk about what you’ll pay to talk to us about us thinking about disarming.”
Iran says its missile program is defensive, and that it is not related to Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers which led to the lifting of sanctions against the country.

European powers and Iran have started talks over Tehran’s role in the Middle East and will meet again this month in Italy as part of efforts to prove to Trump that they are meeting his concerns over the 2015 nuclear deal.

On Friday, the New Yorker reported that during a meeting, which it said was attended by others involved in the nuclear deal," Kerry quietly urged the Iranians not to abandon the deal or violate its terms - whatever the Trump Administration does".

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi, quoted by IRNA, said that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif"has always met on the sidelines of such international summits with attending personalities and elites ... in the framework of preserving Iranian interests".

Zarif had met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference with"John Kerry and Ernest Moniz, foreign and energy ministers of the previous U.S. government, who have a critical attitude towards Trump Administration policies", Qasemi said.

Killing off Kurds as he has done recently, which also encourages Kurds to emigrate, no doubt moves that point off a little, but all the arrests of Turks, which also encourages Turks to emigrate, moves it in the other direction.

I wonder if the release of geneologies, showing that many Turks are actually of Armenian descent, is actually intended to create a new class of those assumed to be disloyal so that, like the Gulenists, they can be arrested and stripped of their assets?

    E. Ghouta/Damascus Adventures: Syrian Army seizes strongholds, civilians form armed groups

Syrian Army seizes 3 rebel strongholds across east Damascus

[ALMASDARNEWS] Vanguard forces of the Syrian Army scored a major advance inside rebel-controlled areas of Damascus’ East Ghouta region, seizing the turban stronghold towns of Uataya, An-Nashabiyah and Hazrama.

The victory was achieved after an entire day of heavy festivities between the Syrian Army and rebel forces of the Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
faction near to and inside Uataya.

In the end, superior firepower in the form of tanks, artillery and Arclight airstrikes would propel Syrian troops to overrun all turban defense lines and strong-points within the town.

By this advance, the Syrian Army virtually isolated the towns of An-Nashabiyah and Hazrama from all other turban-held areas within East Ghouta and de facto split to the Lion of Islam pocket into two.

    However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
when the Syrian Army entered An-Nashabiyah and Hazrama, it found the towns to be completely bereft of Lion of Islam fighters who had fled both settlements in the final hours of the Uataya battle to avoid being encircled.

Thus in a day of campaigning, the Syrian Army has managed to wrest control of three large towns in East Ghouta which for years prior represented unbreachable turban strongholds.

Civilians in east Damascus form armed groups to combat militant factions

[ALMASDARNEWS] Civilians in Death Eater-controlled areas of Damascus’ East Ghouta region are beginning to form gangs to combat murderous Moslem factions and escape towards government-held areas according to reports by Russian military sources.

Reports state that what started off as protests against murderous Moslem groups in East Ghouta by disillusioned ’civic activists’ is now slowly turning into a grass-roots counter-insurgency movement.

Russian sources note that festivities between East Ghouta residents and bully boyz on Wednesday left four civilians and 3 ’terrorists’ dead.

Although such actions are clearly in favor of the Syrian government, there exists no evidence that the newly formed bands of anti-militant civilian fighters are coordinating with government forces.

Kenya: KNH Boss Sent On Leave Over Head Surgery On Wrong Patient
[All Africa] Kenyatta National Hospital chief executive and her deputy, the Director of Clinical Services, were sent on compulsory leave to allow investigations into a surgery mix up.

Health CS Sicily Kariuki made the announcement to send home Ms Lily Koros and her deputy, Dr Bernard Githae, on Friday following public uproar raised by the surgery saga broken by the Nation.

On Thursday evening, Ms Koros had suspended four medical staff, including a neurosurgeon, who performed a head surgery on a wrong patient.
Certainly looked like the right fellow, but you know what they say.
Speaking at the referral facility on Friday evening, Ms Kariuki said that the compulsory leave was meant to pave way for further investigations on how the error occurred.

    'Medical Malpractice'
"The information so far available to me points to a possible case of serious medical malpractice or a medical error due to non-adherence to patient safety protocols at this hospital, an equally serious matter," said Ms Kariuki while announcing the dismissal of the two officials.

After further consultation with a source privy to the matter, the Nation can exclusively report that it is believed the error emanated from tagging of patients as names of the two, who were coincidentally unconscious at the time of admission and operation, are identical.

"That such an incident can occur at our biggest referral and teaching hospital is totally unacceptable especially coming soon after other reported cases touching on patient safety in the last one month," added Ms Kariuki.

She went ahead to ask the management board to conduct investigations and table a report before the end of next week.

"I have also asked them bring in external auditors to audit patient safety and report back with their findings. It is not going to be business as usual," she said.

This Week in Books, March 4, 2018
    The Road to Guilford Courthouse
The American Revolution in the Carolinas

    John Buchanan
    Wiley, 1999

What really caught my interest in this book was my fair ignorance of the southern efforts during the Revolutionary War. All things considered, I thought my history teachers throughout my youth were decent. Yorktown, sure. Cowpens, yup, mentioned. Swamp Fox, ok, but otherwise the southern experience was kind of glossed over with a wave of the hand.

This book cured that void, and in great fashion. I would suggest The Seeds of Albion, by Fischer, specifically the southern colonies as primer, but it is certainly unnecessary. Mr. Buchanan's work stands on its own, and he does a fine background before his personality and opinions are revealed.

    Page 19

On the twin foundations of rice and slave labor the Rice Kings quickly built a brilliant if brittle society. Progress from a rough, crude frontier environment was quite phenomenal. By 1740, only seventy years after the colony was founded, the English evangelist George Whitefield noted in Charleston "an affected finery and gaiety of dress and deportment which I question if the Court end of London could exceed." This despite the various disasters that nature seemed to delight in inflicting on the Low Country. Pestilence and disease had been with them from the beginning, and in the year 1700 they suffered their first disasterous hurricane, which was followed by others, all of fierce proportion, all killers - 1713, 1728, 1752. "In such a case," wrote the colonial historian David Ramsay, "between the fear of pestilence in the city, of common fever in the country, and of an expected hurricane on the island, the inhabitants...are at the close of every warm season in a painful state of anxiety, not knowing what course to pursue, nor what is best to be done." Perhaps it was the monumental vicissitudes of life in the Low Country that helped persuade many merchants who made their fortunes early to return to England to enjoy their riches and pursue more. Most persevered, however, and from various parts of the world immigrants arrived. But there was a sizable group of Scottish merchants, and by 1750 enough Sephardic Jews to form a congregation. French Huguenots, from both the Continent or England, began arriving in the 1680s, and many of them assimilated quickly and became Rice Kings. There were also in the 1740s and 1750s and beyond poor immigrants destined for the Back Country: Germans, Swiss, and from Northern Ireland restive, pugnacious Scotch Irish Protestants.

Mr. Buchanan leads with The Battle for Sullivan's Island. Following the author's lead, this next quote is earlier in the book and captures what I would later find to be a very refreshing and well communicated writing style.

    Page 3

The War of the Revolution was a little over a year old when the Battle of Sullivan's Island took place in Charleston Harbor. The action occurred four years before the serious British effort in the South, but it is a rousing tale and served to introduce a major theme of British strategy as well as some of the key players.

Mr. Buchanan's charisma is evident as the book progresses, his foreshadowing is incredibly helpful, but it is his reminders which are brilliant, tying together the story in a fashion I can only regard as the transcript of a top notch story teller. As movers and shakers enter and leave the story, Mr. Buchanan takes pause for the big names and how they enter, interact, and ultimately leave this story.

    Page 263

About a year before first blood was spilled at Lexington, Nathanael Greene's personal life took a sharp turn. He fell totally and forever in love. Catherine Littlefield, known always as Caty, was born on the wind-blown Block Island to a well-connected Rhode Island family. She was nineteen years old in the summer of 1774, thirteen years his junior. She had looks and wit, and according to tradition "her power of fascination was absolutely irresistible." A contemporary described her as a "small brunette with high color, a vivacious expression, and a snapping pair of dark eyes." Following a swift courtship, they were married on 20 July 1774.

Another aspect I found refreshing concerning Mr. Buchanan's style was his opinions on events, specifically the big names. 'Did this, or did this not happen, after much thought this is what I think, but here is evidence to the contrary, so consider for yourself.' And to top it all, Mr. Buchanan will have you feeling the cold wet clay on your bare feet. Highly recommended.

    **Paired with a movie**

The Patriot starring Mel Gibson and feature a number of known actors at the time, is set in the South during the American Revolution. I bring it up, as I have recently been accused of watching old people movies. I guess not having an interest in animated food making fart jokes puts me into such a category. As more and more of us, especially the youngers, live 6" away, I would propose that The Patriot, about as accurate as Braveheart, may not be very factual but may capture the imagination of a younger enough that they’ll take interest in The Road to Guilford Courthouse.

    **This Week in Emergency Preparedness**

Living 6" away. Spending your free time and too often work time looking at some sort of electronic device. Not passing judgment on how a person spends their time, only that doing so greatly decreases one's awareness. To me, it is easy to imagine Sir Robin of Florida checking his facespace and having to zoom out and recognize, hey shots fired. And his merry men, standing down, waiting for HAL to give them permission to open to pod bay doors. We are losing individualism and creativity to be Borg.

My daughter recently asked me to teach her chess, proud daddy here. My stipulation: put the electronics down and learn to play Yahtzee. With real dice, pencil and paper.

My point being, awareness is the keystone to passing the thread through the eye of the needle in a bad situation. Bad people and those with false passions are becoming emboldened and even aggressive. For the most part recently I have been doing real world things and still am accosted during morning coffee by all these pez heads who are all candle and no wick, evangelizing my way is wrong. Be aware, beginning with when the turd hits the water, you are your first responder. Take a minute and learn something which can be useful in a bad spot, such as how to apply a tourniquet. Come back to the exercise, and just glance around where you are, and what within sight could be used to apply a tourniquet in a pinch. Shoelaces and a pencil, dunno. Stuffed animal opened and stuffing used to pack a wound? Oh look, that plunger looks much more useful than a pencil.

Exercise that mind. Oh, daylight savings is coming up, time to start thinking about switching kits from cold to warm, and checking batteries. Also means those of us in the Central Time Zone should pay a bit more attention to the sky.

#1  what within sight could be used to apply a tourniquet in a pinch

Leather belt, not so much. Cloth/canvas/web belt, Much better. Shoulder strap from a purse, pretty good. Seatbelts, close to perfect.

Tampons plug bullet entry wounds. Sanitary pads are great compression bandages when tied on to a limb with socks. A wet tshirt knotted on the far side is great for keeping debris out of torso burns.

Stop the leaking life force now, cure infection after.

#2  I’ve downloaded the Kindle sample for later perusal — swksvolFF always makes his subjects sound so interesting. :-)

Incidentally, two items of readerly interest:

    1) Sharyl Attkisson’s The Smear: How Shady Political Operatives and Fake News Control What You See, What You Think, and How You Vote is on sale in Kindle form for $2.99 today. It’s been on my very long wish list for awhile, so I picked up a copy.

    2) Apparently it’s Read An Ebook Week (3/4-3/10), and Smashwords wanted me to know all about their special offers. See here. Fred Pruitt and badanov (in his secret identity as Chris Covert) are published there. Others among us are also published authors — Sgt. Mom comes to mind —who might also be involved. If you are, please pipe up so we can check out your work.

#3  Re#1 - Skidmark, your advice reminds me of when I was in Navy OCS in 1970. We were taking a first aid course taught by a corpsman. He said when he was in Viet Nam, he went joyriding with some friend. They got ambushed, and one of the the guys ended up with a sucking chest wound. He didn't have his med kit, so they packed the wound with mud. We all gasped in horror -"but, but what about INFECTION??" His explanation was that antibiotics could treat the infection - IF the guy lived long enough to get to the hospital.

#4  Hi, TW - just got the message; my earlier books are on Smashwords as ebooks, and on Amazon Kindle, but the later are on Draft2Digital and provided to other vendors.
(Just found D2D easier to format and publish - their website is not so clunky.)

#5  It’s not just Smashwords doing it, Sgt. Mom, but they’re the ones who sent me an email about it. My apologies for being unclear.

#1  ...A very good actor, and by all accounts a decent person - but notoriously touchy about his time on MASH. RIP, sir.
