Dept of Justice IG reportedly probing Comey memos over classified material (opens to video)
[FOX] The Justice Department’s internal watchdog reportedly is looking into memos containing classified information that James Comey gave to a friend last year, putting the former FBI boss in the crosshairs of a probe just as his former deputy faces the possibility of a criminal investigation over a separate leak.

The Wall Street Journal reported that at least two of those Comey memos had material now deemed classified, prompting the inspector general investigation.

A broader set of memos, documenting Comey’s conversations with President Trump, were handed over to Congress Thursday evening.

Comey has maintained he didn’t release memos containing classified material.

But the Journal noted that Comey himself redacted classified elements in one of those memos, and another memo had material later upgraded by the FBI to "confidential" (a low classification level).

Democratic Party files suit alleging Russia, the Trump campaign, and WikiLeaks conspired to disrupt the 2016 election

Hey! Guess who is suddenly panicking they may not win congress this election cycle?!!?
[CNBC] The Democratic Party on Friday sued President Donald Trump's presidential campaign, the Russian government and the Wikileaks group, claiming a broad conspiracy to help Trump win the 2016 election.

The multi-million-dollar lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court says that "In the Trump campaign, Russia found a willing and active partner in this effort" to mount "a brazen attack on American Democracy."

The suit says that "preexisting relationships with Russia and Russian oligarchs" with Trump and Trump associates "provided fertile ground for [the] Russia-Trump conspiracy."
Mueller hasn't proved it. What makes you think you can? Oh yeah... judge shopping.
The common purpose of the scheme, according to the Democratic National Committee, was to "bolster Trump and denigrate the Democratic Party nominee," Hillary Clinton, while boosting the candidate of Trump, "whose policies would benefit the Kremlin."
You did that all on your own, sweet cheeks
The named defendants include Trump's son Donald Trump Jr., his son-in-law Jared Kushner, former campaign chief Paul Manafort and campaign official Richard Gates, and Trump ally Roger Stone.

Also named is the Russian Federation, the general state of the Russian armed force, a Russian intelligence services hacker known as Guccifer 2.0., Wikileaks and its leader Julian Assange, and 10 unidentified people.

"No one is above the law," the suit says.
Except Hillary and the Deep State
"In the run-up to the 2016 election, Russia mounted a brazen attack on American Democracy. The opening salvo was an attack on the DNC, carried out on American soil."

"In 2015 and 2016, Russian intelligence services hacked into the DNC's computers, penetrated its phone systems and exfiltrated tens of thousands of documents and emails," the suit says.

"Russia then used this stolen information to advance its own interests: destabilizing the U.S. political environment, denigrating Democratic presidential nominee, and supporting the campaign of Donald J. Trump ... whose policies would benefit the Kremlin," the suit charges.

The suit alleges claims that include conspiracy, computer fraud and abuse, misappropriation of trade secrets, trespass, and other violations of the law.

#5  while boosting the candidate of Trump, "whose policies would benefit the Kremlin."

Kremlin-benefiting policies like loosening the rules on fracking and signing off on the oil pipeline, both of which keep oil prices considerably lower than the Russian economy needs; supporting cleaning up state voter rolls and installing other vote security measures that make it harder for Russia (as well as the Democratic party machines) to hack the vote; PNGing Russian diplomats and closing consulates, as well as encouraging other nations to do the same; increasing observance of security measures across the executive branch, making it harder for Russia to acquire information electronically... Yes, this is definitely the behaviour of a friend of Russia.

Hillary! Still Whining About Getting Hosed On Election Nightyellow
Holy s&^t, Hillary, see a shrink; this is not healthy. Self-pity is not good box office.
[DailyBeast] "No one in modern politics, male or female, has had to withstand more indignities, setbacks and cynicism.
(Sarah Palin, anyone? - ed.)
She developed protective armor that made the real Hillary Clinton an enigma. But if she was guarded about her feelings and opinions, she believed it was in careful pursuit of a dream for generations of Americans: the election of the country’s first woman president."

That would have been the nut graf of The New York Times story about Hillary Clinton’s historic victory that would have run under the headline "Madam President" spread across six front-page columns, according to reporter Amy Chozick’s new book, Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling.

Chozick writes that the Clinton campaign, which she covered from the beginning, had reacted furiously to the prospect of a Joe Biden run, as floated first in an August 2015 Maureen Dowd Times column and then in a reported story by Chozick. In the book, she writes that "Biden had confided (off the record) to the White House press corps that he wanted to run, but he added something like ’You guys don’t understand these people. The Clintons will try to destroy me.’"

#2  The media should be blasting her, they carried her horrible resume as far as they could and she campaigned like a corpse.
* If she'd only visited a few states she thought were sure things (but filled with icky blue collar workers).
* If she'd not avoided the press for nearly a year thinking it was in the bag.
* If she hadn't taken a week off the campaign trail because of illness.
* If only she'd tried just a little all their efforts probably would have secured her the Presidency.

Thankfully she was as horrible a campaigner as she is a person and the nation noticed.

The New Russian Collusion - Dem senators demand POTUS explain ties to Koch bros
[The Hill] Senate Democrats are demanding that the Trump administration explain its ties to GOP megadonor brothers Charles and David Koch after the brothers' network took credit for some policies passed during President Trump’s first year in office, McClatchy reported.

The letters come after a report was sent to a group of Koch donors called the Seminar Network that took responsibility for roughly a dozen new policies passed by the Trump administration, including the new GOP tax law and the repeal of the Obama-era Clean Power Plan.

"Americans have a right to know if special interests are unduly influencing public policy decisions that have profound implications for public health, the environment, and the economy," the senators write in their letters obtained by McClatchy.

Democratic Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.), Edward Markey (Mass.), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), Ron Wyden (Ore.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Tom Udall (N.M.) all signed the letters.

US Air National Guard member fired over woman who took enlistment oath with dinosaur puppet
[Indpendent] Three US Air National Guard members have been disciplined, and one of them fired, for an incident involving a children’s dinosaur puppet.

Master Sergeant Robin Brown, a senior non-commissioned officer (NCO) with the Air National Guard, was removed from her position at the Tennessee Joint Public Affairs Office after video circulated of her taking her enlistment oath with a tyrannosaurus rex puppet in hand.

In the video, an unnamed colonel administers the oath while holding back a smile. Ms Brown repeats each line of the oath back, moving the sock puppet’s mouth along as she speaks. It was not immediately clear why she chose to employ the puppet.

Mercer: Is Diversity Driving Decline in the White Population?
[American Renaissance] "America doesn’t need more people; it needs to allow its own people to recover."

An "aging white population [is] speeding [up] diversity," blared a headline in The Hill.

Could this be a case of confusing cause-and-effect? Are the two trends‐whites dying-out and minorities thriving‐really spontaneous and strictly parallel?

The reverse is likely true. Corrected, The Hill headline should have read:

Could speeding up diversity contribute to a decline in the white population?

We learn that "there are growing signs that the rate of change is increasing." Well of course. America welcomes well over 1 million, mostly non-white, immigrants a year.

If white lives mattered at all to the liberal establishment, an inquiry would ensue:

Is it possibility that an enormous influx of legal and illegal migrants over decades is playing a role in the decline of America’s founding population? (A similar, sad fate was visited on their predecessors, the Amerindians.)

On the one hand, we have the drastic, ongoing decline of America’s white population; on the other, a massive, incessant inpouring of minority immigrants, since 1965. A correlation between the two is not impossible.

A large, well-controlled national survey conducted by Harvard political scientist Robert Putnam, in 2006, found that diversity immiserates and that the historic population is most affected.

Perhaps protracted misery associated with loss of community hastens death?

The logic posits a zero-sum game. The native population has been swamped over time. Resources are scarce‐especially when allocated by a wastrel, white-hating Administrative State. In hating on whites, civil society’s institutions are as culpable.
"Admin State" along with Civil society institutions making up what we now refer to as the "Deep State."
Is it not highly plausible, then, that immigration social engineering, compounded by state policies that privilege non-white newcomers, could contribute to a population decline in white America?

Picture the following scene, set somewhere in what was Trump country, say West Virginia:

A pale patriarch must help his bright son choose a career.

What about pursuing the law?

Unfortunately, the plan has resulted in the destruction of families--both black, white and Hispanic. The plan has resulted in the destruction of a strong middle-class economy and created two classes: the very wealthy and the poor.

You're Offended? Go F*ck Yourself.
TRIGGER WARNING: the below post contains frank discussion of liberalism and statism that survivors of leftist regimes may find troubling.
Michael Z. Williamson is really, really, angry and uses a lot of Anglo Saxon words to express his anger - nevertheless, I feel it's an accurate description & worthwhile read. Some excepts
...First, we need to define the term "liberal." The modern American "liberal" is nothing like the classical liberal of the 19th Century, who gave us most of modern civilization, nor even the anti-statist liberals of the 60s, who were well-intentioned if a bit naive.

The modern American "liberal" is a statist c*cksucker who cannot tolerate even the existence of dissent. They claim to be "tolerant," but a quick discussion will lead to them admitting they don't have to tolerate those hatey haters who hate, which is anyone they disagree with, even if the facts conclusively support the other party. They are a cancer on society and, as in several past societies, at some point they will have to be exterminated.

...they'll define anyone who dissents from their agenda as a Nazi, and of course, it's perfectly okay to try to kill "nazis" with blunt objects, firearms and other weapons, for the crime of being a "nazi," and "due process is racist." There's simply no way to reason with such an entity.

I know some of you are going to say, "But liberals are faggots, so who cares what they think?"
Kampuchea
...The only response you should give to a liberal about anything is, "Fuck off, pussy." Now, I'm in the blessed position of being able to do that without retaliation. People who have a boss to answer to often get fired just because the boss hopes the shouting will go away if he appeases the mob. But, that just means the mob now dictates his hiring and firing choices. They'll keep coming back for more. It's an orgy of self-righteous faggotry.

That's part of why liberals hate the self-employed. It's much harder for them to have any effect on me that I'd notice. Oh, sure, they can threaten to boycott my books, but that's based on three false threats--A) that liberals can read for content 2: that they'd comprehend my stuff if they read it, and c] that they have ever paid to read anything of mine in the first place. Threatening to continue not to pay me isn't a viable threat, and the more offensive I am to liberals, the better my sales are among normal people.

White Working-Class Voters May Not Care About Trump Scandals
h/t Instapundit
[NYMag] It’s been obvious from the very beginning of the Trump era of American politics that a lot of things about the man who became the 45th president that worry upscale Republicans (and their elite #NeverTrump representatives) just don’t matter as much to the white working-class folk who have provided Trump’s sturdiest base of support. Some of it may have to do with news consumption habits: If you watch Fox News rather than read National Review, you got a very different impression of the options available to conservative-leaning voters in 2016.

It’s also entirely possible that white working-class voters are more cynical than their more highly educated counterparts about the moral tone of politicians who are not named Trump; "They’re all crooks" is a pretty common sentiment in those circles. In any event, this is a question that is not important strictly as a matter of retrospectively figuring out how a man of Trump’s character and background managed to get himself elected in the first place; as Ron Brownstein observes, it may well determine the political impact of the continuing Trump scandals we are hearing about nearly every day:

The left is all about power and what it allows them to do--legal or illegal to maintain that power.

James Comey's memos leaked. Read them here (opens to video)
[Washington Examiner] The memos written by former FBI Director James Comey that were delivered to Congress by the Justice Department on Thursday have been leaked.

The memos were obtained by the Washington Examiner.

Comey, who was fired by President Trump last May, said in congressional testimony he kept memos memorializing conversations with the president.

Federal Judge: Mueller's Mandate May Be Too Broad
[National Review] The federal judge overseeing the prosecution of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort questioned the scope of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election Thursday.

During a hearing in one of the criminal cases Mueller brought against Manafort, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson agreed that deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein’s order empowering the special counsel to investigate any crimes he encountered during his probe may have violated Justice Department policy.

Manafort’s lead defense attorney, Kevin Downing, argued that Rosenstein’s May 17 order empowering Mueller to investigate Russian interference and any issues "that may arise" during the probe violated the DOJ requirement that a special counsel be made aware of a "specific factual matter" prior to his appointment.

Jackson appeared to agree but noted that Rosenstein was constrained by a lack of knowledge regarding what Mueller’s team might find, according to Politico.

"That’s a fair point," Jackson said. "[But] I don’t think that, as good as he is, that the deputy attorney general can see into the future."

Downing further suggested that if Mueller’s mandate was overly broad, the charges against Manafort, which include money laundering and failing to register as a foreign lobbyist, would be invalid.

Why Clinton's Donors May Be Investigated In $84 Million Money Laundering Scheme
[Townhall] A pro-Trump political action committee has filed a complaint with the FEC alleging the Hillary Clinton campaign laundered $84 million in contributions from big-name donors, such as Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, filmmaker Steven Spielberg, and designer Calvin Klein.

The complaint outlines a money laundering scheme that violated multiple campaign finance laws, specifically laws related to limits on contributions by independent donors. As of this week, the complaint has escalated with a lawsuit urging the FEC to take action on the complaint which appears to have been largely ignored by the FEC since being filed in December of 2017.

Using both civil and criminal laws, the US government limits how much money an individual can contribute to a particular candidate or political action committee in order to combat corruption and to maintain fair elections. While the actual base limits on individuals will vary with each year, the principle behind limitations remains intact and has been continuously sustained by the Supreme Court. These limit computations require ridiculously absurd government mathematics because of the ways in which "party committee" contributions can increase an individual’s legal opportunities to contribute.

The shrewd individuals running the Hillary Victory Fund (HVF) figured out these campaign mathematics, and in 2016 appeared to legally solicit up to $356,100 from Clinton’s supporters at extravagant fundraisers, such as a dinner at George Clooney’s house and a concert featuring Elton John. Compare this to the $2,700 limit the government sets per individual contributor in a general election. How did they do it? HVF figured out how to maximize the permissible contribution numbers by calling themselves a "joint fundraising committee" comprised of Clinton’s campaign, the DNC, and 32 state party committees.

French police evacuate occupied Paris university site
PARIS (Reuters) - French police swooped before dawn on Friday to clear out around 100 people who had occupied a Paris university premises in protest against student admissions rules.

It was one of a dozen blockaded campus sites in the country and the clear-out was accompanied by a government message that law and order would be restored as the exam period approaches.

Paris police said one person had been arrested in what was otherwise an evacuation that had happened "calmly and without any incident."

The head of the university had requested police intervention more than a week ago, saying protesters, at least some of whom are believed to be anti-government activists rather than people studying there, had seriously damaged the premises.

"Law and order will be restored everywhere," Collomb said in a statement.

Home Invasion Victims Use AR–15 To Defend Themselves Against Five Armed Intruders
[Daily Caller] Three men were asleep inside their Glen St. Mary, Fla., mobile home when five young intruders claiming to be police broke down the front door at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, News 4 Jax reports.

The first intruder wore a mask and shouted, "Sheriff’s office!" from outside the trailer before breaking the front door down and shooting a single round.

Upon hearing the break-in, two of the three men staying in the mobile home ‐ one armed with an AR‐15 and another with a handgun ‐ confronted the criminals with open fire in self-defense.

The armed victims shot about 30 rounds, killing the gunman who wore a mask ‐ Corey Lauramore ‐ and wounding two others ‐ William Lauramore and an unidentified 16-year-old.

2 Florida deputies fatally shot in Gilchrist County
RENTON, Fla. (WOGX FOX 51) - Two young deputies in Gilchrist County, Florida were murdered in broad daylight on Thursday afternoon. Investigators are calling it a senseless act of violence.

Sgt. Noel Ramirez, 29, and Deputy Taylor Lindsey, 25, were just sitting down for lunch at the Ace China restaurant in Trenton, Florida, when a lone gunman approached the window and fired two shots ‐ killing them instantly.

Bullet holes could be seen in the window where the man without a motive opened fire. They were ambushed with no chance to return fire, investigators say, murdered in cold blood. The gunman was found dead in the parking lot.

Comey memos could land Rosenstein in contempt of Congress: Top Democrat
[Washington Examiner] The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee says Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., is poised to subpoena the Justice Department for former FBI Director James Comey’s memos, which the agency so far has failed to produce.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., warned such a move puts Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in jeopardy of being placed in contempt of Congress and the special counsel investigation of being shut down prematurely.

Nadler announced in a statement that Goodlatte informed him Wednesday that "he intends to issue a subpoena to the Department of Justice ‐ in this case to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein."

A spokesperson for Goodlatte did not immediately return the Washington Examiner's request for confirmation.

The Justice Department also did not immediately return a request for comment.

Goodlatte was one of three committee chairmen who pressed the Justice Department to turn over the Comey memos. Comey, who was fired by President Trump in May 2017, testified before a congressional committee that he wrote memos detailing various conversations he had with Trump. In one memo, Comey claimed that the president pressured him to end the FBI’s investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. In another, Comey recalled how Trump demanded loyalty from him.

The three chairmen, including House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., argued there is "no legal basis for withholding these materials from Congress" and set a Monday deadline for the DOJ to comply.

Ex-DEA Agent: U.S. Failing to Share Intel in Terror Cases Five Years After Boston
BLUF:
[Free Beacon] In the case of the Boston attack, intelligence reports found the FBI missed several chances to prevent Tamerlan Tsarvnaev and his bother, Dzhokhar, from detonating two pressure-cooker bombs at the Boston Marathon finish line. The reports cited failures by the FBI to share information across federal, state, and local agencies about Tamerlan's suspected terrorism ties in the years leading up to the attack.

The reports revealed that the Russian Federal Security Service alerted the FBI in March 2011, two years prior to the bombing, that Tamerlan subscribed to "radical Islam" and was preparing to travel to Russia to join "unspecified groups." The FBI-JTTF in Boston questioned Tamerlan, but ultimately closed the case after determining he had no links to terrorism.
US citizen travels to RU to join "unspecified group" in Chechnya, but there is "no link to terrorism." Yea ok, we've got it.
Tamerlan traveled from New York to Russia later that year, triggering an alert, but he was not considered a high priority among the 100 other names deemed a national security threat traveling that day. When Tamerlan reentered the United States six months later, authorities never detained him because his name was spelled wrong in the federal alert system.

The FBI never shared this information with state and local law enforcement prior to the bombings.

Meanwhile, local authorities were investigating a Sept. 11, 2011, triple murder in Waltham, Mass., in which Tamerlan was a suspect. All three men had their throats slit from ear to ear, their corpses precisely positioned with marijuana sprinkled on top, leading authorities to believe it was connected to a large-scale drug operation. Neighbors told police that Tamerlan might have information on the incident given that he was a close friend of one of the murdered men, Brendan Mess, but authorities never questioned him.

Likewise, none of this information was shared with the FBI prior to the Boston attack. Maltz, who was the special agent in charge of the DEA's Special Operations Division at the time, said if the FBI and Boston JTTF had shared the Russian intelligence on Tamerlan in 2011, his department would have looked more closely into him as a murder suspect, potentially leading to an arrest two years before the bombing took place.
Not sharing sources and source information (either witting or non-witting sources) appears to be a common theme with the bureau.
"I'm not saying this would have prevented the bombing, we'll never know that, only God would know that, but what I do know is that we never had a chance," Maltz said.

It had been previously reported that Mr. Tsarnaev’s application might have been held up because of a domestic abuse episode. But the officials said that it was the record of the F.B.I. interview that threw up red flags and halted, at least temporarily, Mr. Tsarnaev’s citizenship application. Federal law enforcement officials reported on Friday that the F.B.I. interviewed Mr. Tsarnaev in January 2011 at the request of the Russian government, which suspected that he had ties to Chechen terrorists.

Rudy Giuliani Joins Trump Legal Team
[Breitbart] Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced his decision to join President Donald Trump’s legal team as the Russia investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller continues.

"I’m doing it because I hope we can negotiate an end to this for the good of the country and because I have high regard for the president and for Bob Mueller," Giuliani said in an interview with the Washington Post.

Counsel to the President Jay Sekulow confirmed the news in a statement to reporters.

"I have had the privilege of working with Mayor Giuliani for many years, and we welcome his expertise," he said.

The former New York City mayor, who was a key Trump supporter during the 2016 election, will leave his law firm Greenberg Traurig to join the president’s legal team.

"Rudy is great," Trump said in the statement. "He has been my friend for a long time and wants to get this matter quickly resolved for the good of the country."

Giuliani was a rumored candidate to serve as Trump’s attorney general, but the job went to Sen. Jeff Sessions instead, who recused himself from the ongoing Russia investigation.

Rosy Future of Korean Nation Holding Peerlessly Great Man in High Esteem
[KCNAWATCH.CO] With the approach of the north-south summit meeting and talks to be noteworthy in the history of the national reunification movement, all Koreans are full of conviction in rosy future of the nation that holds the respected Supreme Leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
in high esteem.

The north-south summit meeting and talks are unthinkable without his rare wisdom, firm will for national reunification, broadminded magnanimity and noble compatriotism.

On the summit meeting and talks to be held thanks to the steel-strong will for reunification and broadminded and compatriotic steps of Kim Jong-un, all Koreans at home and abroad praise him as the peerlessly great man taking the helm of the history and steering the trend of the world. They are convinced that the bright future is always in store for the nation when they value and maintain the good atmosphere of the north-south relations provided by him.

Immensely rosy is the future of our nation holding Kim Jong-un, heaven-sent great man of Paektu, in high esteem.

No persistent move of the anti-reunification forces can block the Korean nation vigorously advancing along the road of independent reunification under his leadership.

The price of stupid: An American ISIS widow looks for a way home
For Samantha Sally, a vacation was all it took to flip her quiet middle-American world of muscle cars, cotton candy and an Indiana packing company, into the horror of the ritual beatings, serial rape, torture and propaganda videos of ISIS's so-called Caliphate.

A holiday is what her husband, Moussa Elhassani, promised her when she went to Hong Kong in 2014, she says. The couple was planning to move to Morocco to start a new, cheaper life, she says, and needed to go through Hong Kong to transfer money.

Days later, Sally says, she stood on the Ottoman Turkish border with Syria, on the edge of ISIS territory, her husband holding her daughter, Sarah, while she held her son, Matthew, then 7, confronted with an impossible choice: Abandon her daughter to ISIS and save her son, or follow her husband into ISIS's so-called Caliphate. Following him was the only way to protect her daughter, she says.

"To stay there with my son or watch my daughter leave with my husband -- I had to make a decision," Sally, 32, tells CNN in northern Syria.

"Maybe I would never have seen my daughter again ever, and how can I live the rest of my life like that."

Soros in Retreat: Billionaire’s University to Move from Budapest to Vienna
[BREITBART] After a sustained campaign against the influence of left-wing billionaire George Soros

The Central European University (CEU) has come under fire from the Hungarian government which had previously claimed it was unfair that the institution was allowed to give out both Hungarian and U.S. diplomas while not operating a campus in the USA.

Now, the university has announced that it has plans to leave Budapest and move to neighbouring Austria where a new campus will be set up, Swedish radio broadcaster Sveriges Radio reports.

Éva Fodor, Deputy Rector at CEU said that the university had already signed an agreement with a landlord in Vienna but some were still hopeful the university would not have to move as the administration had set up a branch in New York state, as requested by the Hungarian government.

House punishes Memphis for removing Confederate statues with $250,000 budget cut
[COMMERCIALAPPEAL] House politicians on Tuesday approved a last-minute amendment to remove $250,000 allocated to the city of Memphis as punishment for the removal of Confederate monuments.

The amendment, which was approved with a 56-31 vote, was introduced as a result of Memphis officials’ decision to remove two controversial statues on public property last year.

After being denied a waiver by the state Historical Commission to remove the statues, Memphis sold two public parks in December to a nonprofit, which then removed statues of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

Fourth Bluff, or Memphis Park, is owned by a group called The Overton Heirs.

The sale — which is almost certain to result in a lawsuit from statue supporters — allows Greenspace to legally do what the city of Memphis cannot: Remove the statues from their visible perches in the parks, Chief Legal Officer Bruce McMullen said. He said they would be stored in an undisclosed location for security reasons.

Court rejects appeals by 46 defendants placed on terror list
[Egypt Independent] Egypt’s Court of Cassation rejected on Thursday appeals submitted by 46 defendants over listing on the terror list for their alleged involvement in the liquidation of former Prosecutor-General Hesham Barakat in June 2015.

Vice-Chief of the Court of Cassation Abdel Rahman Hiekel had considered the defendants’ lawyers appeals who requested the cancellation of the court verdict and its effects ‐ including seizure over the defendants’ funds, a travel ban and their names on an airport terror-watchlist.

Cairo Criminal Court listed 56 people on the terror list upon the request of the public prosecution in August 2017.

The list included several leaders of the banned Moslem Brüderbund group, including runaway leader Gamal Heshmat.

positions in Syria.

An Iraqi military front man announced the airstrikes on Thursday and said that the strikes were conducted with the coordination of the Syrian government in Damascus.

The strikes, carried out by Iraqi F-16 warplanes, came a week after Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said his country would defend itself from murderous Moslem threats across the border.

The Iraqi military posted on Twitter, "Based on the orders from Abadi, the commander in chief, our air forces by using F-16 war planes bombarded ISIS terrorists' positions in Syria on the border with Iraq on Thursday."

Then, it said in an official statement, "Carrying out air strikes on ISIS gangs in Syrian territories is because of the dangers posed by said gangs to Iraqi territories and is proof of the improved capabilities of our armed forces."

Iraqi Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool said the airstrikes were carried out in coordination with the Syrian government and were launched from within Iraqi borders.

On Thursday, Iraq's Air Force also released a video of an F-16 fighter jet taxiing on what appears to be a military air base.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi confirmed that he gave the orders on Thursday and tweeted a brief statement saying, "Our heroic air force carried out on Thursday in Syria near [the] Iraqi border deadly air strikes against ISIS's (ISIS) terrorist gangs."

Judge Blocks Transfer of US 'Enemy Combatant' to Saudis

jihadist group.

In a test case of the Trump administration's policy on Americans who join and fight for jihadist groups, Judge Tanya Chutkan issued a preliminary injunction blocking Defense Secretary Jim Mattis from transferring the unnamed detainee "from US custody," a court document said.

Dubbed "John Doe" in court documents, the man was detained in Syria last September and was turned over to the US military, who moved him to Iraq where he was interrogated by military and FBI officials.

They branded him an "enemy combatant," but after seven months, have not charged him with any crime.

Chutkan's ruling protected the detainee from being moved to another country without being charged or tried.

A transfer could have taken place within hours.

Justice Department lawyers earlier Thursday indicated they would appeal a court order blocking the transfer.

The case is the first of a US citizen detained and accused of joining IS.

Scores of Americans traveled to Iraq and Syria after 2011 to enlist in the group and could pose legal challenges if caught as US and allied forces near elimination of the group on the battlefield.

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has pledged to be tough on Americans who fight for jihadist groups.

- Foreign fighter dilemma -
But bringing them to trial in US courts could raise difficult issues, including the unresolved question of whether the US military had the legal authority to detain IS fighters.

US, European and other countries are wrestling with how to deal with hundreds of "imported muscle" now held in Iraq and Syria after the self-proclaimed IS caliphate collapsed.

On Monday the Justice Department gave a required 72 hour notice saying they planned to send "John Doe" to a third country, which has agreed to accept him.

Though the country has not been officially identified, multiple court document references point to Saudi Arabia, and lawyers have not disputed media reports naming the country.

The Justice Department lawyers said that sending him to the third country was an issue of maintaining strong relations with a US ally. But they could not discuss, at least publicly, what would happen to him once he was transferred.

The man has not been charged with a crime in Saudi Arabia, and the United States does not have an extradition treaty with the country, which has imprisoned numerous people with alleged ties to radical jihadists.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which represents the man, asked the court Wednesday to block the transfer, and demanded that he be charged under US law or freed.

"Forcibly rendering him to another country would be an unconscionable violation of his constitutional rights," said ACLU attorney Jonathan Hafetz.

Sweden's deadly problem with hand grenades
[BBC] A stark rise in incidents involving hand grenade explosions has become emblematic of the wider rise in violent crime in Swedish cities, report James Clayton and Caitlin Hanrahan for BBC Newsnight.

Daniel Cuevas Zuniga was cycling home from a night shift in southern Stockholm in January when he stopped to pick up an object on the path.

Police believe the 63 year old, who worked at an elderly people's home, thought the device was a toy.

But it was a hand grenade, which exploded as he touched it and killed him almost immediately.

His wife, Wanna, was riding ahead of him near Varby railway station. She was knocked to the ground by the blast.

Shrapnel marks can still be seen on a nearby lamppost.

"How could a hand grenade be on the bike path?" Wanna said later in an interview with local media.

"My view on Sweden has changed. I really wonder how such a thing could happen... I am completely traumatized."

The number of explosions caused by hand grenades has increased in Sweden in recent years. There were fewer than five in 2014 but at least 20 in 2017, and a further 39 grenades were seized by police.
So, Not Guns killing people but hand grenades. I bet you can't find them at your local sporting goods store. I wonder if the NRA is keying on this. I could see the ads. The DemoRats want to take your guns so that leftists and jihadists with hand grenades can freely kill scores of citizens with grenades mailed home from war zones.
Not just grenades killing people, but grenades deployed by the immigrant gangs that have been taking over more and more Scandinavian communities, not just Sweden’s. Oddly enough, the BBC reporters plagiarized several chunks of their report from a March 3rd report in the New York Times, then expanded with their own work. Worth reading the whole thing.

Two more pro-Kurdish MPs stripped of Turkey seats
[AlAhram] The Ottoman Turkish parliament on Thursday stripped two more MPs from the main pro-Kurdish opposition party, including a former front man, of their status as politicians, their party said.

Osman Baydemir and Selma Irmak of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) were removed from office over recent criminal convictions, a party official said, a day after President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
said The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
would hold snap parliamentary and presidential elections in June.

Former HDP front man Baydemir was convicted of insulting police while Irmak was convicted of terror propaganda, the official told AFP.

Nine HDP politicians and former co-chiefs Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag are currently in jail.

Meanwhile,
...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck and Manuel's rivalry was entering a new and more dangerous phase...
11 HDP MPs have lost their politician status including Yuksekdag.

The party elected Pervin Buldan and former MP Sezai Temelli to replace Yuksekdag and Demirtas.

The HDP is facing an uphill struggle in the June 24 snap elections since making history by becoming the first pro-Kurdish party to pass the 10 percent threshold and enter the Ottoman Turkish parliament in June 2015.

Demirtas campaigned at the time on a promise to stop Erdogan becoming president under an executive presidency. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
Turks narrowly approved constitutional changes to create such a system in an April 2017 referendum.

The HDP has come under intense pressure since the July 2016 failed coup and the crackdown against coup plotters and Kurdish turbans.

Its members still face dozens of court cases, with many involving accusations of links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has waged an insurgency in Turkey since 1984.

The party, which is the country's second-largest opposition group, denies any links to the PKK.

Reacting to the stripping of the MPs' status, the party said on Twitter: "Those who usurp the people's will should be consigned to the dustbin of history, Baydemir and Irmak will continue to represent the peoples!"null

Suspected Brussels Jewish museum killer to stand trial
[IsraelTimes] Belgian judge rules there is enough evidence against French jihadist Mehdi Nemmouche in 2014 attack that killed four, including two Israeli tourists

Frenchie Mehdi Nemmouche
...radicalized in prison and linked to Salim Benghalem, who was the leader of the Buttes-Chaumont terrorist network and France’s chief ISIS recruiter...
was ordered Thursday to stand trial in Brussels for allegedly killing four people at a Jewish museum four years ago in a jihadist attack, his lawyer said.

Judges decided there was enough evidence to try Nemmouche, 33, and alleged accomplice Nacer Bendrer, who is also French, in the Belgian capital for the attack in 2014, lawyer Henri Laquay told AFP.

He did not name a date but the trial is expected to begin later this year or early next year.

The judges decided there was not enough evidence to put Mounir Attalah, a third Frenchie linked to the attack, on trial.

On May 24, 2014 a gunman armed with an assault rifle opened fire in the entrance hall of the museum in the center of the Belgian capital, killing two Israeli tourists, a French volunteer, and a Belgian museum receptionist.

Six days later Nemmouche was enjugged
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
in the southern French port city of Marseille when getting off a bus from Brussels.

Nemmouche had returned from Syria where he had been fighting with Islamist Lion of Islams.

Nacer Bendrer was formally charged as an accomplice in the attack in February 2015 in Brussels, two months after his arrest near Marseille in possession of various weapons.

These included a Kalachnikov assault rifle like the one used at the Jewish museum.

Nemmouche has been linked to Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the ringleader of the November 13, 2015 Gay Paree gun and bombing attacks that killed 130 people and maimed hundreds of others.

Abaaoud died in a police shootout near the French capital days after the massacre.

The Gay Paree attacks were allegedly plotted in Brussels by the same cell that carried out the suicide kabooms in the Belgian capital’s airport and a metro train station on March 22, 2016, killing 32 people.

Yemeni National Resistance Forces launch military campaign on Red Sea Coast
[Gulf News] The Yemeni National Resistance Forces, led by Staff Brigadier-General Tarek Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, today (Thursday) launched a large-scale military operation on Yemen’s Red Sea Coast in the direction of Mocha and Al Barah Area, west of Taiz, to liberate new areas from the grip of the Iran-backed Al Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias.

Supported by the UAE Armed Forces operating as part of the Saudi-led Coalition, the offensive fits within the ongoing efforts to liberate and secure the Red Sea Coast and lift the anti-Taiz siege from the western front. The operation is backed as well by Yemen’s Southern Resistance and Tahami Movement.

The operation coincides with across-the-board preparations on the part of the National Resistance Forces to widen the battlefronts in their fights against the Iranian-aligned militias in other parts of the Yemen’s Red Sea Coast.

In the meantime, the Saudi-led Arab Coalition Forces’ jets launched intensive raids against Al Houthi militias in Mocha, Jebel Al Shawka, Mowaz, and Albarah areas, destroying a large number of armoured vehicles, expunging, killing and injuring hundreds of the militiamen, with the Yemeni National Forces inflicting heavy damage on the front positions of Al Houthi militias.
A source of the Yemeni National Forces told WAM that thousands of trained resistance elements are advancing across different areas on the Red Sea Coast supported by the Arab Coalition Forces’ aerial bombardment.

"This decisive and qualitative military operation is aimed at liberating the areas controlled by the coup perpetrators," he said, adding that the countdown has already started to liberate the remaining Red Sea directorates which are still under the control of the Iranian-backed elements.

Screaming woman ‘is viciously beaten by women in Iran because her red head scarf is deemed an "insufficient" hijab'
[DailyMail] The outrageous scene, in what appears to be a public park in broad daylight, was secretly filmed by an onlooker and has been spread online by dissident groups.

A Facebook group which highlights such instances of abuse, My Stealthy Freedom, uploaded the video.

In a description of the footage, the activists wrote: 'This woman is savagely beaten up by morality police as punishment for her insufficient hijab. And they tell us hijab is a "small issue".'

They added: 'We expose them and we resist compulsory hijab.'

The group's founder - and also the founder of the anti-hijab 'White Wednesdays' movement - said to the thugs who beat the woman: 'Shame on you'.

White Wednesdays encourages women to flout regulations by capturing footage and pictures of themselves without their hijabs and posting it online.

Berlin anti-Semitic assailant turns self in, said to be Palestinian from Syria
[IsraelTimes] An asylum seeker aged 19, belt-wielding attacker was filmed by his victim -- an Arab Israeli who wore a Jewish skullcap as an experiment; clip has caused outrage

A 19-year-old Paleostinian asylum seeker from Syria turned himself in to German police Thursday after his violent anti-Semitic attack on an Arab Israeli man wearing a Jewish skullcap in Berlin caused outrage across Germany.

Police said the suspect they had already identified from the footage and witness statements had presented himself with a lawyer and would face a judge to be held on assault charges.

Bild daily identified him as a Paleostinian from Syria named Knaan S. who was registered at a refugee home in Brandenburg state outside Berlin but was most recently living "out of a suitcase" in the capital.

The victim, initially thought to be Jewish, told German television on Wednesday night that he wasn’t, but wanted to find out whether it was safe to walk in the street dressed as a Jew. He said he wore the skullcap as an experiment because he didn’t believe a friend who told him it’s too dangerous to wear one in public in Germany.

"I am not Jewish, I am an Israeli and I grew up in Israel in an Arab family," Adam Armush, 21, told broadcaster Deutsche Welle. "It was an experience for me to wear the skullcap and go out into the street yesterday."
Deutsche Welle adds:
A police front man said that the man seen on the video trying to whip two young men wearing kippahs, traditional Jewish head coverings also known as yarmulkes, gave himself up just after noon on Thursday. The man was identified as a 19-year-old from Syria, but police gave no details about when he came to Germany or where he is living.

DW was able to interview the two victims and establish the following:

- Neither of them is Jewish. One, Adam, is an Israeli citizen who comes from an Arab family in Israel and who studies veterinarian medicine in Germany. The other, Salah, is a German citizen with Moroccan roots who describes himself as an atheist.

- The two men were given the kippahs as gifts. On Tuesday evening, they donned them on their way to visit an Israeli friend in Berlin to experience what it was like to wear a Jewish symbol in public, but say that this was not designed to provoke anti-Semitism.

- They were taking selfies when they were abused in Arabic by the attacker, who then tried to whip Adam with his belt. They told the attacker in Arabic and German to stop, and Adam filmed the incident. Two women intervened, while others in a crowd of onlookers did not.

- Adam says he told journalists who asked after the attack that he was not Jewish, but that most news hounds simply assumed he was Jewish because of the kippah.

Police released no information on Thursday about the attacker's possible motivations. He is heard yelling the Arabic word for "Jew" on the video.

Lost in the uproar created by the video on Wednesday, the Antisemitism Research and Information Office (RIAS) released statistics about the number of anti-Semitic incidents in Berlin in 2017. RIAS said it had counted 947 such instances of anti-Semitism last year ‐ a 60-percent increase over 2016.

Better numbers for better prevention
Up to 90 percent of anti-Semitic incidents in Germany are classified as right-wing holy warrior. But Germany's newly appointed Anti-Semitism Commissioner Felix Klein says better data is needed.

"One urgent topic is criminal statistics, according to which 90 percent of anti-Semitic crimes are committed by far-right holy warriors," Klein told Die Welt newspaper. "But I hear something different from Jews in Germany. Above all, Moslem anti-Semitism is greater than the statistics express. But until now, we only have these numbers."

Reihan crossing closed after explosive found in truck
[Ynet] The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, ordered Thursday the closure of the Reihan crossing in the northern West Bank after an explosive was found in a truck trying to cross it the previous day.

The closure of the crossing, done on the instruction of Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, will be in place until an investigation into the incident concludes.

Muslims flee Kashmir village after girl’s rape, murder
[DAWN] There are no Moslems left in the village of Rasana, which has become a symbol of India’s rape crisis after the brutal murder of an eight-year-old Moslem girl blamed on Hindu men.

Police say the girl was raped and killed as part of an attempt by some of the village’s majority Hindus to evict Bakarwal Moslem nomads, who graze their cattle in the hills in the summer months.

It seems to have worked: the girl’s family have headed for India-held held Kashmire hills under police protection. Other Moslem families in the community of around 100 people all left after the rape in January.

At the empty home of the dead girl’s family, five armed police kept guard half asleep in chairs outside.

Police say the child was drugged, held captive in a Hindu temple for five days, and repeatedly raped before being beaten to death.

Her anonymous grave in orange earth partially covered by weeds is in a nearby village in Kathua district, about 60 kilometres from the region’s main city Jammu.

Media reports said Hindus in Rasana refused to allow the girl to be buried there.

In Rasana, the village’s few remaining inhabitants are reluctant to speak to outsiders.

"Since all this happened, the village has emptied," according to 39-year-old Yash Paul Sharma, a rare resident willing to talk.

Vegas war playground gives visitors a battlefield experience
[FoxNews] Just off the Las Vegas Strip, a large tract of land resembles an army barracks replete with tanks, Humvees, and a parked helicopter. But this is no official military installation. Instead, the grounds are a sort of war theme park for civilians clamoring to experience a day in the life of a soldier.

Battlefield Vegas opened in 2012 and has amassed an arsenal of hundreds of weapons dating back to World War I for customers to choose from. The indoor gun range is the highlight of the shooting experience. Fox News was allowed to shoot a minigun. This multi-barrel machine gun can spray 200 rounds in 1.3 seconds.

DC Councilman who thought Jews control weather asks stupid questions at Holocaust Museum; then he leaves early
[WashingtonPost] The group paused before grainy photos of German troops executing Catholic clergy in Poland by firing squad. "Were they actually manufacturing these weapons?" [councilman Trayon] White asked.

Moments later, White was nowhere to be seen....

Seven of White's staff members stayed with the guide, who soon was showing them an exhibit on the Warsaw Ghetto. As she explained the walling in of Polish Jews, one aide asked whether it was similar to "a gated community."

Malaysian police search for four fugitive ISIS insurgents
[The Nation] Malaysian police are hunting for four insurgents suspected of planning attacks on non-Muslim places of worship, as well as to kidnap and murder policemen.

Malaysia's police chief Mohamad Fuzi Harun said in a statement that six militants were arrested between Feb 27 and March 1. But four others are still on the run. Police said the men were dangerous and "capable of launching attacks that could pose a threat to national security".

Two of the suspects listed were named as Muhamad Faizal Muhamad Hanafi and Muhamad Hanafi Yah, both from Kelantan state. A third suspect is Nor Farkhan Mohd Isa, whose address was given as being in Skudai, southern Johor. The fourth suspect is Awae Wae-Eya, a Thai national living in Narathiwat province.

Intelligence sources believe Awae is the group's leader, based on interrogation of the men arrested, and that he is trying to establish an ISIS cell in southern Thailand.

The plot was uncovered after Malaysian counter-terror police, with assistance by their Singaporean counterparts, detained the rebels in a series of raids. The order to kidnap and kill policemen is thought to be the first of its kind.

The six men nabbed earlier included a technician who was initially believed to have masterminded the plans to attack places of worship in Johor Baru. The second suspect was the cell's adviser and responsible for keeping the cell and its plans secret.

Also picked up during the raids was a man who was responsible for acquiring firearms from a neighboring country and scouting for non-Muslim houses of worship to target. Another suspect had been ordered to kidnap and kill policemen.

An Abu Sayyaf militant in the Philippines was also nabbed during the police crackdown in Sabah on March 15. The man is said to be a trusted lieutenant to Furuji Indama, the group's leader based in Basilan. Thought to have connections to Malaysian militant Mahmud Ahmad, he is also wanted by Philippines authorities for involvement in a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate. He is an expert in making improvised explosive devices and had planned to attack several locations in Sabah.funding and refuge in South-east Asia.

911 operator who hung up on emergency calls is sentenced to jail
[FOXNEWS] A former 911 operator who hung up the phone "thousands" of times on people attempting to call in emergencies in Harris County, Texas has been sentenced to jail time.

Crenshanda Williams, 44, was found guilty of interference with emergency telephone calls Wednesday after "systematically" hanging up the phone on residents of Harris County, KTRK reported.

She was sentenced to 10 days in jail and 18 months probation.

Williams reportedly had an unusual number of "short calls," which were no longer than 20 seconds. Prosecutors, according to the Houston Chronicle, determined she hung up on "thousands" of calls.

In one instance, emergency caller Jim Moten told KTRK he called 911 in 2016 after he spotted two vehicles speeding on a highway where people had been killed from speeding weeks earlier and thought his call had dropped after a few seconds.

Williams had taken Moten's call and, before he could finish explaining his emergency, she reportedly said: "Ain't nobody got time for this. For real."
Court documents, according to the news station, stated that Williams had taken Moten's call and, before he could finish explaining his emergency, she reportedly said: "Ain't nobody got time for this. For real."

The dispatcher also hung up on a caller who tried to report a violent robbery, according to the Chronicle.

Williams reportedly spent a year and a half at the Houston Emergency Center taking 911 calls. She was caught in August 2016 and fired.

"The citizens of Harris County rely on 911 operators to dispatch help in their time of need," Assistant District Attorney Lauren Reeder said in a statement. "When a public servant betrays the community's trust and breaks the law, we have a responsibility to hold them criminally accountable."

Surprise Daesh attack kills 25 regime forces in east Syria
[Gulf News] ISIS launched a surprise attack near a town in eastern Syria they had lost six months ago, killing at least 25 regime forces, a monitor said Thursday.

At least 13 ISIS snuffies were also killed in the attack which was carried out near Mayadeen on Wednesday afternoon, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

Mayadeen lies in the eastern province of Deir Al Zor on the western bank of the Euphrates River and is flanked by the vast Badia desert to its west and south.

A military source on Thursday however denied any attack against positions of the Syrian army along the western bank of the Euphrates.

But intermittent bombardment on army positions from its eastern bank had prompted retaliation with suitable weapons, the source said.

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters, control most of the territory to the east of the Euphrates, where a few villages are still under ISIS control.

Observatory director Rami Abdul Rahman said Thursday morning "ISIS attempts to advance in the direction of the town of Mayadeen are ongoing" from the Badia desert.

He said it was the "largest ISIS attack since they were expelled from the town" by regime forces and their allies in October 2017.

Khalifa Haftar suffers from irreversible brain damage
[Libya Observer] Libya’s warlord is in an almost vegetative state and will never be normal again, the Middle East Eye reported on Wednesday, citing an informed EU diplomat.

The EU diplomat, who preferred not to be named, told the London-based online news portal that Haftar is "unable to talk or even fully comprehend."

"Haftar is suffering from lung cancer, which has spread to his brain," the diplomat further explained, adding that "the doctor treating him says that even if he responds partially to treatment, it will be temporarily and he will never be normal again."

On Friday evening, news surfaced online claiming Haftar was dead. The UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame telephoned a local news TV shortly and said he had conducted a 10-minute telephone call with Haftar and discussed with him the political process, in what appeared to be an attempt to refute Haftar’s death rumors.

The EU diplomat told the MEE that Salame was under pressure by Italia, La Belle France and the UAE to confirm that Haftar is alive.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
Radio La Belle France Internationale quoted La Belle France's foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian as saying on Wednesday that "Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
is in a military hospital in Gay Paree and he is doing better now."

Hafter returning tomorrow
[Libya Herald] Faiez Serraj, head of the Presidency Council, has not spoken to Khalifa Hafter since reports surfaced of his illness last week, his official spokesperson Mohammed El-Sallak said at the weekly presser yesterday. Sallak was responding to a direct question from a member of the media.

Asked for a comment about the reports regarding Hafter’s reported illness and his whereabouts, El-Sallak said that he could not comment on stories without reliable sources.

El-Sallak was referring to unconfirmed reports that started to circulate last Tuesday about Hafter’s ill-health and whereabouts.

These reports were initially denied by the Libyan National Army’s (LNA) official spokesperson Ahmed Mesmari. He had claimed on the LNA’s twitter account that ’’All the news about General commander’s health are false, Marshal Hiftar is in excellent health".

House of Representatives (HoR) head, Ageela Salah, was then reported to have said that he had been in contact with the LNA commander, Khalifa Hafter and had discussed with him the latest developments. The comments had come through the official HoR spokesperson Abdulla Belheeg.

Belheeg had reported that Saleh, who is also the Supreme Commander of the mainly eastern-based Armed Forces, had warned against the rumours and incitement that some were trying to spread. He did not specify which specific rumours were being referred to.

The official HoR spokesperson had also reported Saleh as saying that work was continuing normally in all armed forces units and in all (military and security) operating rooms. Saleh was also reported as saying that he and Hafter were following up with the Chiefs of Staff and the Commanders of the operations rooms on a continuous basis. Furthermore, Saleh had assured all the Libyan people that the military institutions will remain the safety valve for the nation.

This was followed by a tweet by UNSMIL five days a go saying that UNSMIL head Ghassan Salame and Field Marshall Khalifa Hafter ’’communicated today via phone and discussed the general situation in Libya and the latest political developments in the country’’.

Meanwhile,
...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout the long-awaited message arrived. They quickly got to work with their decoder rings...
LNA Chief of Staff Abdul Razak al-Nazhuri, speaking today to local Libyan media outlets after surviving an liquidation attempt in Benghazi, said that Hafter would be returning to Libya tomorrow.

Miguel Diaz-Canel becomes Cuba's president, Raul Castro steps down
[NBCNEWS] Cuba has a new president, and for the first time in over 40 years, his last name is not Castro.

Miguel Díaz-Canel officially became president on Thursday morning after Raúl Castro stepped down and Díaz-Canel was confirmed by the National Assembly.

Castro, 86, will remain head of the Communist Party, the most powerful governing body on the island, but his departure from the presidency represents a symbolic shift in an aging leadership.

The transition is an effort to guarantee that younger leaders like Díaz-Canel ‐ who has served as Cuba's first vice president since 2013 and turns 58 on Friday ‐ can maintain the power of the Communist-run government put in place by the party's now octogenarian founders.

Among Díaz-Canel's immediate challenges are Cuba's economic stagnation and a younger generation's disenchantment with its limited opportunities.

Syrian rebels hand over arms, leave another town near Douma
[IsraelTimes] Syrian state media say hundreds of rebels fighters in a town northeast of Damascus have handed in their weapons and started to leave under an evacuation deal.

Under the agreement, the rebels are allowed to move with their families to opposition-held areas in the country’s north, effectively surrendering their turf to Syrian government forces.

The state SANA news agency says the Army of Islam fighters and their families are leaving the town of Dumayr on Thursday. The report says 1,500 rebels and 3,500 of their next of kin are to leave Dumayr for the town of Jarablus, near the Ottoman Turkish border.

Dumayr is in the Qalamoun mountains, near the eastern Ghouta region which came under full government control last week after a weeks-long offensive and an alleged chemical weapons attack.

Thousands of Arab Israelis take part in ‘Nakba’ march
[IsraelTimes] Thousands of Arab Israelis take part in a "March of Return" commemorating the Nakba ‐ the "catastrophe" of Israel’s founding.

The march, which commemorates Paleostinians who fled their homes in Israel during the War of Independence, is held in the northern town of Atlit, where there used to be an Arab village.

"What happened then was a catastrophe ‐ a humanitarian and national disaster by any measure," says Joint (Arab List) MK Ahmad Tibi, according to the Ynet news site.

"Hundreds of thousands of Paleostinian citizens until today live near the communities from which they were uprooted. What is more natural, humanitarian, and just than returning them to their homes in their abandoned communities, and returning their stolen property to them," he adds.

"The March of Return" has been held annually since 1998 at different Arab villages destroyed in the war, with participants calling for the return of Paleostinian refugees to their former homes.

Sudan President Bashir fires foreign minister Ghandour
[Gulf News] President Omar Al Bashir on Thursday fired Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ebrahim Ghandour after he said that Sudanese diplomats abroad had been unpaid for months due to a government cash shortfall, state media reported.

In a speech to politicians on Wednesday, Ghandour, who negotiated the lifting of decades-old sanctions with Washington in October 2017, said his ministry had also been unable to pay rents for several Sudanese diplomatic missions.
