Democratic strategist rips Obama for not doing enough to stop Russian election interference
[Washington Examiner] A prominent Democratic strategist said Friday the Obama administration should have been more proactive about curbing Russian influence in the election.

Mary Anne Marsh, once a senior adviser for former Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., told Fox News that she did not "believe the Obama team and President Obama did enough," even though there were clear signs of Russian intent to manipulate the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

The former Kerry adviser said she believes the Obama administration had a duty to go above the Senate's objection to issuing a bipartisan joint resolution addressing the Russia concerns.

In fairness, I think Baraq is fairly typical of senior management types I encountered in the IT business - totally ignorant when it comes to technology issues but too arrogant to listen to the lowly working class types who work with computers every day. Of course, it is also quite possible he was distracted by his vices, too damn lazy to study the issues or had sinister motives for letting the Chinese and Russians hack the hell out of our computer systems.

25 Years After The Rwandan Genocide, The West Still Hasn't Learned The Right Lesson
BLUF:
[The Federalist] After the genocide, many blamed the Western powers such as the United States, United Kingdom, and France for doing too little to stop the genocide. Yet ethnic conflicts are always so complex. Many times it is hard for outsiders to tell the villains from the innocents. And the West, including the United States, has a very mixed record of interventions in the past. Not all lead to success.

It seems that since the Rwandan genocide, the West has been trying to correct its wrongs with money. Not surprisingly, 40 percent of the Rwandan government’s budget depends on foreign aid, with the United States and United Kingdom the two biggest donors. Despite the troubling human rights reports about Rwanda, the money keeps coming. Kagame can often be seen easily mingling with Western politicians and business people, even getting former U.K. prime minister Tony Blair to advise him.

Michela Wrong, a journalist for The Spectator, wrote a piece on Rwanada with an alarming title, “Rwanda is sliding into a new tragedy. And this time we’re funding it.”

I asked Coleman if she thought the West has learned its lesson. She shook her head. In her opinion, Kagame is able to manipulate the international message about Rwanda. “People in the west need to learn the truth about Rwanda,” she says. “The West needs to learn the truth of whom they are dealing with before lending their support. ” Otherwise, all the West is doing is spending taxpayers’ money to prop up one ruthless authoritarian after another.

I asked her if she thought the genocide could happen again. She said yes. The ethnic tension still exists—it’s only being suppressed by a strongman.

#3  After the genocide, many blamed the Western powers such as the United States, United Kingdom, and France for doing too little to stop the genocide.

Talk about having it both ways - the burden apparently always falls on 'Western powers' whenever there's a major cock-up overseas, then the armchair QB's (like our own Herb McCoy, for instance) get to play the blame game with hindsight providing the 20/20 lens when a less than perfect result crops up.

Do I have that right?

Of course you have it right. We all know whom it is that can never be blamed or held to account for their own brutal actions.

New York state tax revenues plummet by $3.7 billion
Low tax Red States are no longer subsidizing the rapacious high tax Blue States
[NY Post] New York state tax revenues fell by $3.7 billion, or 4.7 percent, last year ‐ the largest collapse since the 9/11 attacks ‐ but officials downplayed the significance.

Trying to find a bright side, state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said things could have been worse since a surge in collections last month staved off an even steeper drop.

"After months of concern over lower-than-expected tax collections, the state ended the fiscal year on a positive note," he said.

"The sharp revenue declines in December and January, however, remind us to take nothing for granted. With expectations of a slowing economy and ongoing concerns regarding federal fiscal policies, a strong commitment to building robust reserves in preparation for the next economic slump is essential."

The primarily culprit was a 6.6 percent decrease in personal income tax revenues, which came in at $48.1 billion ‐ $3.4 billion less than the previous year.

DiNapoli spokesman Brian Butry cited sweeping changes to the federal tax code, including a new $10,000 cap on state and local taxes that could be claimed on federal returns.

#2  NY State Dept. of Taxation and Finance, in my admittedly limited contacts and experience with them, are even bigger assholes than the Mass. Department of Revenue (and probably CA's Franchise Tax Board), and that's saying something.

One of the ways they are going to respond to this 'loss of revenue' is to go after a number of high-profile (and not-so-high profile) former residents and do a residency audit, demanding damn near every conceivable piece of evidence to prove you've moved out of state. Rush Limbaugh's brought this up enough times over the years that those of you who've heard him talk about this know that a lot more of these audits are already in the works.

Forget the fact that such harassment brownshirt thug goon tactics won't bring in jack shit for revenue; this is how the government hackerama operates.

#3  The blue states on the west coast are going to be with us for a while, but the blue states on the east coast are not going to be able to solve their massive outdated infrastructure problems within the constraints of their shrinking tax bases. A smart state legislature (N or S Dakota, Wyoming, TX) could craft some laws to steal the financial industry from NYC and the corporate registries from Delaware and the east coast is comple toast.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 04/20/2019 7:38 Comments || Top||

#4  That will be fine MM as long as those state legislatures don't wind up importing millions of Blue State voters and their ideas.
Posted by: AlanC || 04/20/2019 8:13 Comments || Top||

#5  My thoughts on #4: Yes, some (most, many, not so many?) financial sector workers want certain cultural amenities and may equate liberal voting habits with the availability of those things. The corporate registry stuff is 99% filed paperwork and 1% competent courts. Amenities don't mean much at all. I'd imagine most corporate laweyrs would not object to travelling to Cheyenne if a trip to Jackson Hole was in the itinerary. Aditionally no reason the Wyoming legislature couldn't just make Teton County the court of resort for corporate registry matters. As for the financial industry, they need access to "the cable" for HFT, which of course could be done via satellite rather than transoceanic circuit. At the end of the day, the real shakers and movers simply do not go to hipster bars in any event...

Middlebury College Cancels Conservative Philosopher's Lecture on Totalitarianism
[Free Beacon] Middlebury College has canceled a campus speech by conservative Polish Catholic philosopher Ryszard Legutko in response to planned protests by liberal activists.

A professor of philosophy at Jagiellonian University and a member of the European Parliament, Legutko was scheduled to speak Wednesday at the Vermont college's Alexander Hamilton Forum, delivering a lecture entitled "The Demon in Democracy: Totalitarian Temptations in Free Societies." A member of the anti-Communist Polish resistance during the Cold War, Legutko warns that western democracy is also susceptible to creep towards totalitarianism.

But in the days leading up to the speech, some Middlebury students and professors wrote an open letter demanding the university rescind its sponsorship. The liberal activists took issue with Legutko's pointed critiques of multiculturalism, feminism, and homosexuality, calling them "homophobic, racist, xenophobic, [and] misogynistic."

"Inquiry, equity, and agency cannot be fostered in the same space that accepts and even elevates homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic discourse," they demand. "Bigotry of any kind should not be considered a form of inquiry."

Rush Limbaugh says Mueller report should read: 'Trump attempted to obstruct our coup'
[Wash Times] Rush Limbaugh says special counsel Robert Mueller’s 400-page report would have been more accurate if he had openly lamented President Trump’s attempt to obstruct a silent "coup."

The man behind the "golden EIB microphone" said on Thursday’s show that hundreds of pages were not needed to explain the details of an investigation that concluded with zero criminal charges against the president.

Mr. Limbaugh told his audience that the lengthy report exist primarily to fuel biased media attacks against Mr. Trump.

"This wasn’t an investigation," he said. "It was an attempt at a coup. It was an attempt to throw Donald Trump out of office and nullify the election results of 2016. It was disguised as an investigation."

The longtime conservative talk-radio host noted that the report "recounts everything you’ve read in the New York Times and the Washington Post about collusion before concluding there wasn’t any! It’s made to order for people who want to continue running this operation to get rid of Trump. ... The report itself says there was no collusion."

Mr. Limbaugh said journalists will now opine on Mr. Trump’s motivations and whom he could have fired ‐ but didn’t.

I thought star chambers and kangaroo courts were not the way of our country. Sounds more like The National Socialist German Workers' Party run-up to power prior to WWII. The only thing missing is the Beer Hall Putsch, (also known as the Munich Putsch) of 1923. It's not missing if one considers the DOJ and FBI coup-attempt against Trump. Only the beer is missing.

War in Donbas: Local youth turn their backs on Ukraine (video)
[France24] The two finalists in Sunday’s presidential election in Ukraine share at least one common point: both have promised to end the ongoing war in the country's easternmost region. The conflict began in 2014, when pro-Moscow separatists took control of the Donbas area, resulting in the founding of two self-proclaimed republics.

Five years later, they both have their own armies and political institutions. Special correspondent Jonathan Walsh gained access to the Donetsk self-proclaimed republic where many younger residents appear to be resolute in their decision to turn their backs on Ukraine.

A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett.

Pope Francis Mourns Excess Carbon Emissions Given Off By Notre Dame Fire
[Babylon Bee] VATICAN CITY‐Pope Francis has called for a time of mourning within the Catholic Church after the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris burned earlier this week.

The period of mourning is said to be a time of weeping for the extra carbon dioxide emissions let off into the air from the fires.

"It is so tragic to see this beautiful, 900-year-old building go up in smoke---smoke that will continue to change our climate, the most pressing spiritual issue for the church today," Francis said. "As I saw the flames leap upward toward the sky, all I could think of was the bleak future we are contributing toward as our kids only have a decade left on this planet."

"Hail Mary, full of grace. Please cool our planet," he then muttered in a heartfelt prayer.

Pope Francis has encouraged Catholics to purchase indulgences to help rebuild the building and buy carbon credits to offset the damage to the climate the fire caused.

"Whenever a carbon credit purchase rings, another soul from purgatory springs," he said.

Unable to admit they were utterly wrong about sleazy Democratic operative Robbie Mook's original Trump-colluded-with-the-Russians-to-steal-the-election-from-Hillary-Clinton narrative, they're now scanning every nook and cranny of the Mueller report to find something useful to use to impeach the president. A very good analysis from the San Francisco Chronicle's John Wildermuth and Tal Kopan points to how problematic that is, given that the report had far fewer redactions to holler about than they'd hoped:
Democrats have spent weeks demanding access to the full, unredacted Mueller report, anticipating that Attorney General William Barr would heavily censor it. The focus on redactions served as a way of deflecting questions about impeachment.

But what Barr released was largely understandable and minimally redacted, with plenty of details Democrats could seize on to impugn Trump. Now the pressure is on Democrats to decide whether to consider impeachment, something that would please progressives but take attention away from practically anything else the party would like to focus on heading into the 2020 election cycle.

Few redactions means less to speculate about. Yet the Democrats can't stop themselves from focus on impeachment, and the Mueller Report means they have very little fuel for their bonfire. So they are left yelling about nothing and can't stop themselves.

It really is a bad situation for them, a tar baby, as the term goes, a problem situation that is only aggravated by additional involvement in it. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and House speaker Nancy Pelosi are taking their fire to Attorney General Bill Barr as their means of keeping the fires burning.

Meanwhile, the far-left crazytown vanguard among the Democrats (Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the toilet-mouthed Rashida Tlaib) are barreling right ahead with an impeachment resolution, something they got themselves elected on.

Huckabee blasts Romney: 'Makes me sick' that you could have been president
[The Hill] Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) blasted Sen. Mitt Romney on Friday after the Utah Republican said he was "sickened" by President Trump's actions in the Mueller report.

"Know what makes me sick, Mitt? Not how disingenuous you were to take @realDonaldTrump $$ and then 4 yrs later jealously trash him & then love him again when you begged to be Sec of State, but makes me sick that you got GOP nomination and could have been @POTUS," Huckabee tweeted.

Romney was the Republican Party's presidential nominee in 2012 when former President Obama won reelection. Huckabee ran against Romney for the GOP nomination in 2008 and then unsuccessfully for the nomination again in 2016.

Huckabee, an ally of Trump who is also the father of White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, pushed back hours after the Utah senator blasted the "dishonesty and misdirection" described in special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

"I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President," Romney said in a statement posted to Twitter.

Gillibrand Teams Up With Former Soviet Propaganda Outfit
[Free Beacon] 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand is set to sign on to a policy proposal penned in part by a Marxist think tank best known for serving as a de facto Soviet mouthpiece during the Cold War.

BuzzFeed reported Tuesday that the New York senator will endorse a new report recommending steps to reduce the racial wealth divide, including policies such as a commission to study slavery reparations.

"A draft of the report, titled ’Ten Solutions to Bridge the Racial Wealth Divide,' will be jointly released this week by the Institute for Policy Studies, the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, and the National Community Reinvestment Coalition," they report. Gillibrand told BuzzFeed News that she was "proud" to support the document.

One of the organizations Gillibrand is "proud" to partner with, the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), was infamous during the Cold War for its defense of Communist governments and for its kneejerk support of the Soviet line.

Emory Professor and preeminent historian of American Communism Harvey Klehr dedicated an entire chapter of his book "Far Left of Center" to the IPS, which he characterized as "an intellectual nerve center for the radical movement, providing sustenance and support for a variety of causes, ranging from nuclear and anti-intervention issues to support for Marxist insurgencies."

"IPS fellows have consistently maintained that the Soviet threat is largely non-existent and a product of the military-industrial complex," he wrote. Klehr detailed how IPS fellows' partnered with Soviet-funded "peace" organizations, defended USSR and Vietnam from charges of human rights abuses, defended the Sandinistas and other Latin-American terrorists, and denied the existence of the Cambodian genocide, even as two million people died.

Heiress pleads guilty in NXIVM sex slave case
NEW YORK (AP) -- An heiress pleaded guilty on Friday in a sensational case accusing a cult-like upstate New York group of creating a secret harem of sex slaves for the group's self-anointed spiritual leader.

Clare Bronfman admitted in her plea in federal court in Brooklyn that she harbored someone who was living in the U.S. illegally for unpaid "labor and services" and that she committed credit card fraud on behalf of Keith Raniere, the lead of a group called NXIVM.

Bronfman - the 40-year-old daughter of the late billionaire philanthropist and former Seagram chairman Edgar Bronfman Sr. - told the judge that she had wanted to help people through NXIVM but ended up dishonoring her family.

"Your honor, I was afforded a great gift by my grandfather and father," Bronfman said. "With the gift, comes immense privilege and more importantly, tremendous responsibility. It does not come with an ability to break the law."

She added: "For this, I am truly sorry."

Clint Eastwood to Direct Movie About Fake News Victim Richard Jewell
[Breitbart] Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood is circling The Ballad of Richard Jewell as his next project, the tragic story about an early victim of our fake news media.

Jewell was a 34-year-old security guard at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, and at first he was rightfully hailed as a hero after he discovered a backpack filled with explosives and risked his own life to evacuate the area. After the bomb went off, dozens were injured and one person was killed. There is no question, though, that many, many more would have died had Jewell not sounded the alarm.

Unfortunately for Jewell, the acclaim didn’t last long. He was overweight, white, and a southerner ‐ the perfect target for our left-wing media... And so, three days later the media reported the F.B.I. was looking at him as a possible suspect. There was zero evidence against Jewell. The entire story was based on a criminal profile of the bomber.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution launched the hate campaign by comparing Jewell to the serial killer behind a horrible series of child murders in Atlanta.

The Israeli military said in a statement that "no injuries to soldiers were reported" after it said its troops came under fire.

Paleostinian security sources in Hamas-ruled Gazoo told AFP that the Israeli strikes hit Hamas military observation posts at three locations along the frontier.

They said there were no reports of Paleostinian casualties.

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had in late March flushed out IS from their last bastion in Syria but has warned that the holy warrior group remains a threat in places.

Macron assured the SDF representatives, who were not named, of the "active support of La Belle France in the fight against [IS] which continues to be a menace for collective security," AFP reports, citing the presidency.

Macron also vowed that financial support would be allocated to"respond to the humanitarian needs and the socio-economic stabilization of civilian populations in Syria."

ISIS night operations have killed over 35 Syrian soldiers in April
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) has recently stepped up their attacks across Syria, targeting the supply routes of both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

In the month of April alone, the Islamic State has carried out at least a half dozen attacks along the Syrian Arab Army’s supply route from Palmyra to Deir Ezzor.

As a result of these ambushes, over 35 Syrian Arab Army soldiers have been killed and another ten military personnel have captured by the Islamic State.

These ISIS attacks have forced the Syrian Arab Army to send a large number of reinforcements to the al-Mayadeen countryside to help protect the international highway.

Protecting the international highway is imperative for the Syrian military because they are preparing to reopen this roadway that connects Damascus and Baghdad.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
if these attacks continue, the reopening of the international highway may be delayed, which will also prevent Iran from transporting oil to Syria.

Syria is currently facing its worst fuel crisis since the country achieved its independence from La Belle France; this blockade has been imposed by western nations on the Syrian government.

The Uighurs and so forth who did not join Al Nusra or ISIS seem to have ended up here...
(NLF) launched a heavy attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northern Aleppo this afternoon.

According to a source near Aleppo city, the Ottoman Turkish Army and NLF heavily shelled the YPG near the town of Mennagh and the Syrian Arab Army inside of Tal Rifa’at.

In response to this attack, the YPG fired several mortar shells towards the Ottoman Turkish Army’s positions in northern Syria; they would hit a number of areas including the town of Azaz near the border.

The reason for the attack this afternoon by the Ottoman Turkish military and NLF is not known; however, earlier in the day, the Ottoman Turkish Air Force was seen flying over Aleppo.

The Syrian Arab Army has yet to respond to the attack and it is unlikely that they will as they do not want to increase tensions in this region.

Hezbollah leader believes war with Israel is highly possible this summer
Soooooo many secondaries to look forward to!
[MOBILE.ALMASDARNEWS] Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Ansarallah reportedly told his top commanders at a meeting last night that war with Israel is highly possible.
"Many of you will die. Our infrastructure and powerbase will be destroyed. Innocent Leb Civilians will die and be maimed. Israel will still stand. I will however, emerge victorious from hiding under my daughter's bed providing military direction and religious support. It'll be so coool. You will love it!"
This meeting was revealed by veteran journalist Elijah Magnier; he is releasing the details regarding this conversation in an article on Saturday.

"Last night, During a private meeting with top commanders, #Hezbollah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
believes the possibilities of war with #Israel is very high this summer," Magnier tweeted.

On Thursday, the commander of the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) Northern Command General Yoel Strick told Ynet News that his troops will destroy Hezbollah if they attempt to infiltrate into Israel.

"No. Hezbollah still holds on to those plans. We, of course, will not let that happen. We will foil those plans. This is not only a threat to us but also an opportunity, since they have diverted their best fighters to the South. We will face them and I have no doubt of the outcome," he told Ynet.

Strick added that if Hezbollah were to attack, Israel would take all of Leb to war as punishment for harboring the group inside the country.

The last time Israel and Hezbollah went to war was in the summer of 2006; they have avoided all-our war since then.

Bolton threatens to use Monroe Doctrine against Venezuela
[ALMASDARNEWS] National Security Adviser John Bolton has signalled the US administration’s readiness to use the Monroe Doctrine in its policies towards Latin America.

The Monroe Doctrine, which was announced by US President James Monroe in 1823, aimed to oppose European colonialism in the Americas. The document declared that any action by any European power directed against independent nations in North and South America would be considered hostile by the United States.

"Today, we proudly proclaim for all to hear: the Monroe Doctrine is alive and well", Bolton told the Bay of Pigs veterans group in Miami on Wednesday, lauding the Americas as an "incredible region" which he said "must remain free from internal despotism and external domination".

He claimed that "the destinies of our nations will not be dictated by foreign powers" and that "they will be shaped by the people who call this Hemisphere home".

In early March, Bolton also focused on the issue in an interview with CNN, during which he stressed that the US was applying the Monroe Doctrine to the situation in Venezuela. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the time slammed Bolton’s remarks as arrogant and insulting.

The Wednesday statement was made as Bolton announced a new spate of sanctions against Venezuela, including those that have been slapped on the Venezuelan Central Bank, a number of companies and nine ships.

Iraq
Iran, Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia set to meet for first time at Baghdad Summit
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Baghdad Summit is scheduled to take place on April 20th with several Middle Eastern countries set to participate in this conference organized by Iraq.

The list of countries participating in the Baghdad Summit are as followed: Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Jordan, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the most dubious NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
ally....

, and Syria.

The parliamentarian heads of these seven countries will be the primary participants of the Baghdad Summit.

For Syria, this is a big meeting because it will mark the first time since the start of the Syrian Conflict that they will be participating in a non-Syria related conference with Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Furthermore, the conference will see two major regional foes participating: Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have no diplomatic relations and both nations are pitted against each other in a number of proxy wars in the region, most notably Yemen.

Despite these rivalries, the Baghdad Summit conference will be an important step for Iraq to build their diplomatic and economic ties with their neighbors.

The roots of extremism
[DAWN] EXTREMIST forces of Evil receive considerable support from their apologists who take exception to criticism of religious extremism and claim this is not the only form of extremism. The point is valid though there can be no bar to examining faith-based intolerance alone. A brief inquiry will show that the various forms of extremism have common roots.

For want of a standard definition in the context of Pakistain’s environment, extremism may be defined as irreconcilable hostility to other people’s religion or sect, their culture and customs, rejection of the rights of minority communities and women, and determination to convert them through inducement or intimidation or eliminate them through physical violence, including terrorist acts.

Women constitute the largest single group of people in Pakistain that are victims of bully boys’ violence. A recently released report of a survey conducted by the United Nations

Constable booked in Lahore for fraud marriages
[DAWN] The Misri Shah police on Thursday lodged a case against a constable for committing frauds by contracting multiple marriages to deprive women of their money and other valuables and torture of his most recent wife.

The case was registered against Constable Faisal Younis on the complaint of his 6th wife (A) over fraud and physically torturing her for not bringing money from her parents.

In her complaint, she alleged that some months after marriage in May 2018, Faisal started asking her to bring money from her parents and she did as per his wishes. He later demanded a cycle of violence, an LCD TV and an electric geyser and she acted as per his wish, she said and added that Faisal recently exerted pressure on her to force her parents to sell their house and give her a share.

The complainant said Faisal tortured her severely when she refused to meet his demand. She said she later stumbled on some documents in the house, pertaining to previous marriage certificates of Faisal. She was shocked when Faisal confirmed his previous five marriages and on further inquiry it appeared that he used to contract marriages with women to obtain money and valuables.

New Mexico militia detains migrants at gunpoint until Border Patrol arrives: report
[FoxNews] An armed right-wing militia group operating along the U.S.-Mexico border posted several videos to social media this week, including one in which they held about 200 asylum-seeking migrants at gunpoint near Sunland Park, N.M., until U.S. Border Patrol agents arrived, according to a report.

The militia group, which calls itself the United Constitutional Patriots, said it is determined to monitor the border until President Trump fulfills his campaign promise of a border wall or until Congress enacts stronger legislation to make it more difficult for migrants to request asylum, Jim Benvie, a spokesman, told The New York Times in a phone interview.

“It should go without saying that regular citizens have no authority to arrest or detain anyone,” the governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, said in a statement to The New York Times, adding that it is “completely unacceptable” that migrants be “menaced or threatened” upon entering the U.S.

You need to re-read your law then. The same one that allows the militia to detain and turn over to the authorities people committing crimes are the same ones that protect your security force and security guards. Yes, they are citizens. A security guard has the right to conduct a citizens arrest on an intruder and turn them over to the law agencies. Just like the militia.

1,000 unvaccinated Brooklyn children received the MMR shot this week after New York City declared a state of emergency to control the measles outbreak
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] One thousand children in Brooklyn's measles epicenter have received the MMR vaccine in the week since a state of emergency was declared, the Mayor announced today.

Last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered the mandatory vaccination of everyone - children and adults - in four Brooklyn ZIP codes affected by the outbreak of 329 measles cases and counting.

He said 3,300 children in Williamsburg - the epicenter of the outbreak - had not received their shots.

On Friday morning, de Blasio told Brian Lehrer on WNYC that now almost a third of them have complied.

Others have refused, however - driving health officials to shutter five schools and summon three parents to court, where they could face a $1,000 fine or jail time.

Jihadist Plotting Holy Week Attack in Spain Arrested
[Breitbart] Earlier this week Moroccan police arrested 23-year-old Zouhair El Bouhdidi, claiming the radical Islamist was plotting a terror attack in the Spanish city of Seville.

El Bouhdidi, along with the rest of his immediate family, has been living in the Spanish city for the past 14 years and, according to police, had plotted to become a suicide bomber, Spanish news site El Espanol reports.

Police say the 23-year-old had planned to use the homemade explosive TATP, commonly referred to as “Mother of Satan”, to carry out the suicide attack.

Moroccan police were able to arrest El Bouhdidi after communicating with Spanish police with authorities believing the trip was meant as a farewell to his family members before he carried out the attack during the Easter Holy Week.

El Espanol also revealed the background of El Bouhdidi, claiming that his father Abderrahim is an Imam in a poor section of Seville and that he had previously completed an Arab and Islamic Studies degree at Seville University.

Aberrahim El Bouhdidi claimed that his son had gone to Morocco to visit his sick grandmother and rejected the charges against the 23-year-old saying, “my son did not intend to do any harm to anyone.”

Turkish warplanes enter Syrian airspace for 2nd time this week
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the second time this week, the Ottoman Turkish Air Force has entered Syrian airspace and flown south towards the demilitarized zone in southern Idlib.

According to a Syrian military source in Hama, the Ottoman Turkish Air Force traveled across the demilitarized zone where they observed the ongoing situation in the Idlib, Hama, and Aleppo governorates.

The Ottoman Turkish Air Force has been conducting these overflights as part of their agreement with the Russian military to enforce the September 17th Sochi Agreement.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
despite these patrols by both the Russian and Ottoman Turkish armed forces, the situation in the demilitarized zone still remains very tense, with both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and holy warriors trading attacks.

As of now, the Ottoman Turkish military has 12 observation posts in the Latakia, Aleppo, Hama, and Idlib governorates; these are viewed by the Syrian military as an attempt by Ankara to stop their advance in northwestern Syria.

Elizabeth Warren Calls for House to Begin Impeachment of Trump
Go for it, Tonta. You won’t drive him out of office, and you’ll guarantee his reelection as well as the Democratic Party losing the House.
[Bloomberg] Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren on Friday called for President Donald Trump’s impeachment, saying the country can’t afford to ignore the obstruction uncovered by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

"The severity of this misconduct demands that elected officials in both parties set aside political considerations and do their constitutional duty," the Massachusetts senator wrote in a series of tweets. "That means the House should initiate impeachment proceedings against the president of the United States."

Mueller’s report released Thursday identified at least 10 instances of potential obstruction of justice by the president, including discouraging others from cooperating with the Russia probe and dangling possible pardons.

Warren’s impeachment calls comes as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her top lieutenants have been trying to tamp down calls from progressive lawmakers in that chamber and others to begin impeachment proceedings.

Up until now, Mueller’s investigation has caused barely a ripple on the presidential campaign trail. Voters rarely mention it in questions to the candidates, and the contenders themselves have focused more on pocketbook issues like wages and health insurance.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh girl burned to death on teacher's order: police
[DAWN] A schoolgirl was burned to death in Bangladesh on the orders of her head teacher after she reported him for sexually harassing her, police said on Friday.

The death of the 19-year-old, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, last week sparked protests across the country, with the prime minister promising to prosecute all those involved.

Rafi was lured to the rooftop of the religious seminary she attended where her attackers asked her to withdraw the sexual harassment complaint she had filed with police.

When she refused, she was doused in kerosene and set on fire.

Police said on Friday that one of the 17 people placed in durance vile
You have the right to remain silent...
in connection with her death had accused the school's principal of ordering the attack.

The teacher "told them to put pressure on Rafi to withdraw the case or kill her if she refused", senior police superintendent Mohammad Iqbal, who is leading the investigation, told AFP.

Rafi had gone to police in late March to report the sexual harassment, and a leaked video shows the local cop shoppe chief registering her complaint but dismissing it as "not a big deal".

Iqbal said at least five of those under arrest, including three of Rafi's classmates, had tied her up with a scarf before setting her on fire.

"The plan was to pass the incident off as a suicide. But it fell through after Rafi managed to come downstairs while on fire because the scarf burnt and freed her hands and feet," he said.

Rafi suffered burns to 80 per cent of her body and died in hospital on April 10.

But she recorded a video before her death, repeating her allegations against the principal. "The teacher touched me, I will fight this crime till my last breath," she said. She also identified some of her attackers.

The case has caused outrage in Bangladesh, with Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina

She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
vowing that "none of the culprits will be spared legal action."

Rights groups say the number of rape and sexual assault cases has increased in Bangladesh because authorities have failed to prosecute attackers.

"The horrifying murder of a brave woman who sought justice shows how badly the Bangladesh government has failed victims of sexual assault," Meenakshi Ganguly, South Asia director at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.

"Nusrat Jahan Rafi's death highlights the need for the Bangladesh government to take survivors of sexual assault seriously and ensure that they can safely seek a legal remedy and be protected from retaliation," she added.

has called for the removal of the Jefferson Davis Memorial arch at Fort Monroe, saying its continued presence has an "adverse effect" on the historic property and urged the authority’s board of trustees to initiate steps to take it down.
Somehow, I think there's never gonna be a Ralph Northam gate anywhere.
In a letter presented Thursday to the Fort Monroe Authority Board of Trustees, Chief of Staff Clark Mercer relayed the governor’s stance, asking an eight-member panel and those ex-officio members present to take necessary steps to remove the arch and all references to the Jefferson Davis Memorial Park, located at Bernard and Ruckman road intersection near a 500-yard terreplein.

The archway entrance to the Jefferson Davis Memorial Park was built on the ramparts in 1956 by the Army on behalf of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The group paid $10,000 to build the 50-foot wrought iron structure.

"This process will require a detailed review ... along with significant public engagement. I believe it is appropriate," Mercer said, reading Northam’s letter. "I feel strongly that a memorial glorifying the President of the Confederacy has no place here, especially given our efforts this year to commemorate the 400th anniversary of enslaved Africans landing at Old Point Comfort.

Northam’s position, which some present called bold, argued while the arch and park are listed as contributing elements to the Fort Monroe National Historic Landmark designation, they "were constructed after the landmark’s period of historic significance ended," his letter stated.
"some"
Members of authority’s board, after some debate, voted unanimously to take steps to have the arch removed, a protracted process given the federal constraints facing the historic landmark district.

The vote took place during the second day of a two-day retreat with a tour of select spots on the 565-acre former military post that included a visit to the archway.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy conceived the original project to erect a structure in honor of Jefferson Davis, authority officials said. Davis, the former U.S. Secretary of War and president of the confederacy, was incarcerated for treason within a casemate cell, a mere walking distance from the archway and park.

#1  Jefferson Finis Davis (June 3, 1808 - December 6, 1889) was an American politician who served as the only President of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865. As a member of the Democratic Party, he represented Mississippi in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives.

Trying to bury the sins of the party again. Maybe just a new plague emphasizing the point would be more in order.

#4  ...FT Monroe is one of my favorite places on the planet - I could literally every day of the rest of my life exploring the place. I therefore need to point out that you not only cannot see the arch from the outside of the fort, it's pretty much hidden inside the fort.

And believe me, the next thing to go will be the casemate where Davis stayed, restored to show what it was like when he was there.

When they control the history, they control the future.

Woman killed after shots fired during violent riots in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, police treating attack as ‘terrorist incident’
[TWITTER] Wikipedia on Lyra McKee
Lyra Catherine McKee (31 March 1990 – 18 April 2019[1]) was a Northern Irish journalist.[2] She was an editor for Mediagazer, and had written for The Atlantic and BuzzFeed News. On 18 April 2019 she was shot dead during rioting in the Creggan area of Derry, County Londonderry.

McKee first came to public attention in 2014, with the publication of a blog post titled "Letter to my 14-year-old self" in which she described the challenges of growing up gay in Belfast; it was subsequently made into a short film.[6] McKee's work as a journalist included a number of pieces that appeared in both domestic and international media.[7] Among these were articles she wrote for The Atlantic,[8] The Belfast Telegraph, Private Eye and BuzzFeed News; she was also an editor for Mediagazer.[2][3] In 2016 Forbes magazine named her as one of its "30 under 30 in media" because of her work as an investigative reporter.[7]

Her first book, a non-fiction work titled Angels with Blue Faces, was published in 2018, and deals with the Provisional IRA killing of Belfast MP Robert Bradford. McKee sought crowdfunding to finance its publication.[3] She subsequently signed a two-book deal with Faber and Faber.[7] At the time of her death, her second book, The Lost Boys, was scheduled for release in 2020.[9] It concerns the disappearances of Thomas Spence and John Rodgers from Belfast's Falls Road in November 1974. Faber and Faber had compared the work to that of Anna Funder's Stasiland and Andy O'Hagan's The Missing.[7]

McKee wrote on the consequences of the Troubles. She notably wrote "Suicide of the Ceasefire Babies", an article on teenage suicides linked to the conflict.[10][11] At the time of her death, McKee was researching unsolved killings during The Troubles in Northern Ireland of the late 20th century.[1]
On 18 April 2019 McKee was shot dead during rioting in the Creggan area of Derry, County Londonderry.[13][14] Police blamed dissident republicans for her death.[15][16][17] Mobile phone footage and police CCTV footage[18] shows a masked gunman, believed to be a member of the New IRA, opening fire with a handgun.[16] In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police took her to Altnagelvin Hospital in an armoured police Land Rover, where she later died.[16]

Prime Minister of the UK, Theresa May called the murder "shocking and senseless". She said McKee "died doing her job with great courage".[16] Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said "our solidarity also goes out to the people of Derry and to the entire journalism community. We cannot allow those who want to propagate violence, fear and hate to drag us back to the past."[16]

The leaders of Northern Ireland's main political parties, the DUP, Sinn Féin, UUP, SDLP, Alliance Party and Green Party, released a joint statement condemning the killing of McKee and described it as "an attack on all the people of this community, an attack on the peace and democratic processes". They also said that it was a "pointless and futile act to destroy the progress made over the last 20 years, which has the overwhelming support of people everywhere". They further reiterated their support for the Police Service of Northern Ireland, who were the intended targets of the gun attack.
This is exactly what Theresa May and the UK are worried about with France and the EU bureaucrats demanding a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland. I am sure this is leaving Macron of France with a warm feeling in his stomach tonight since he hates the Brits so much.

UK: Leftist party suspends candidate for challenging
[JihadWatch]
A Liberal Democrat candidate has been suspended from the party over comments such as: ‘There is no such thing as Islamophobia.’

Dániel Tóth-Nagy, 32, was due to stand for election in Manchester but is now facing an investigation.

In one of the comments, he responded to a Twitter post by MP Naz Shah about Islamophobia asking: ‘What about FGM? Honor Killings? Forced marriage? What do you think about the protest of women in Iran, Saudi-Arabia and other Islamic countries against the compulsory hijab?

‘What about Sharia in Britain? LGBT rights and education denied by Muslims in Birmingham? I expect no answer.’

In a separate exchange on Twitter, Mr Tóth-Nagy questions why Muslim-only schools are allowed in the UK.

Mr Tóth-Nagy described seeing children dressed in hijabs at a Halloween Party as ‘scary’ stating that he fears ‘they may be victims of FGM’ in another post…

Mr Tóth-Nagy said: ‘I think everything I have said is freedom of expression.

‘I’m disputing this decision and I’ll try to defend myself.

‘As a liberal, the principal value for me is freedom, including freedom of speech and freedom from religion.
Wrong version of "liberal", dude
‘I never made any comment online or anywhere else which express hatred or violent against any person.’

A spokesperson for the Manchester Liberal Democrats said: ‘These posts are completely outside of our party’s values and beliefs, and will not be tolerated.

‘Had we been aware of this before, there’s no way he would have been selected as a candidate.

‘We have immediately suspended him and we apologise to anyone that has been upset or offended by these comments.’…

Labour deletes 'happy Passover' Twitter post after backlash over image of bread
[NEWS.SKY] Labour is facing a call to apologise for wishing Jews a "happy Passover" with a graphic including a loaf of bread.

The week-long festival is celebrated annually in Judaism, during which observers are prohibited from eating leaven - a substance used to make baked dough rise.

All traces of it must be removed from the house to commemorate Jews led by Moses out of Egypt who did not have time to let their bread rise.

A post from Labour's Twitter account in the run up to Passover, which begins on Friday night, wished everyone "chag sameach" - Hebrew for happy holidays.

It included drawings of the Star of David, a glass and a loaf of bread.

China lands a win win with Belt and Road?
[ATimes] The pieces in Beijing’s massive puzzle are starting to come together..
Relentless reports that the New Silk Roads, or the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), are a perfidious neo-imperial debt trap set up by Yellow Peril 2.0 are vastly exaggerated.

With less than one week to go before the next BRI forum in Beijing, a quick overview of what’s been happening in Europe and Southwest Asia may be quite enlightening.

Immediately after a successful 21st China-EU summit in Brussels, the 8th China-16+1 meeting in Dubrovnik focused on Central and Eastern Europe nations, ending up like a 17+1 – Greece is their newest member. So now we have 12 EU member states plus five Balkan nations committed to the BRI and wider business deals with Beijing.

The joint commitments of 17+1 are a “win-win” prodigy in itself. The Europeans exhort China to implement a real “level playing field,” and everyone enthusiastically supports the EU-China Comprehensive Investment Agreement, which Brussels and Beijing had already pledged to sign before the end of 2020.

The key takeaway is that 17+1 from now on will work in close cooperation with Brussels in all connectivity fronts including trade and customs, easing paranoid fears that Beijing is only interested in promoting Divide and Rule inside the EU.

Apart from forcefully investing in a détente with Brussels, Beijing, of course, keeps its own priorities. They focus especially on Greece and Croatia, while the courting of Italy after the signing of the BRI memorandum will also proceed unabated.

From the Baltics to the Mediterranean – specifically from Estonia to Greece – China seems to be configuring a new booming trade Intermarium, a mirror image of the combative anti-Russia Intermarium from the Baltics to the Black Sea that obsesses NATO.

Putin wants to play Italy to China's Germany in the next war. Maybe Putin thinks Russia is Germany to China's Italy. Who knows. The point is that he is, for some reason or other, joined at the waist with Xi Jinping. I'd say the primary reason is that China doesn't care about what conquests Russia makes as long as China gets a free hand in its targeted geography, the Western Pacific and possibly Central Asia. Whereas Washington will balk at Russian territorial expansion, even if the US and Russia are allied.

France deploys military near Russian border with Estonia
[ALMASDARNEWS] A unit of 300 soldiers from the French Army and the Foreign Legion is expected to arrive in the Estonian town of Tapa, just 140 kilometres away from the Russian border, next week, according to La Belle France’s Embassy in Tallinn.

The troops will stay in Estonia until the end of August as a part of the FRA-EFP LYNX mission, which is aimed at boosting the alliance’s presence in the region. Gay Paree will also deploy five Leclerc tanks and 20 infantry fighting vehicles, including 13 VBCIs, which is a French version of Multi-Role Armoured Vehicles (MRAV). They will be transported to Estonia by rail.

This is not the first time that French forces have been present in Estonia, as they were also located in Tapa for ten months in 2017. In addition, in 2018, the French Air Force also patrolled Estonian airspace within the framework of NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
’s Baltic air security mission.

This deployment is La Belle France’s contribution to NATO’s increased presence in the Baltic States and Poland. Their soldiers will replace the Belgian units serving with NATO’s British-led battle group in Tapa, according to the Estonian website ERR. The UK has 20 Challenger-2 tanks as well as 30 IFVs there. In addition, just recently, the UK also sent five Apache attack helicopters to the Amari Airbase in Estonia to join NATO’s "enhanced forward presence" along the alliance’s border with Russia.

The units are to take part in Estonia’s annual Spring Storm (Kevadtorm) drills, involving 10,000 troops, which are set to start on 29 April. As the Estonian news website reports, citing the country’s Ministry of Defence, NATO’s presence will also be increased further this year on the Baltic Sea ahead of the Baltic Protector and BALTOPS naval exercises.

Moscow has repeatedly voiced alarm over NATO’s unprecedented activities and boosting its presence in the region, citing the alleged "Russian threat". The Kremlin earlier stated that Russia poses no threat to anyone, but will not leave any potentially dangerous activities without attention.

Syria-Iraq trade stymied by US border presence
[atimes] Damascus and Baghdad have taken steps to facilitate trade, but crossing remains firmly shut from Iraqi side

Syria in recent weeks laid the groundwork for a resumption of badly needed overland trade with Iraq, with an eye on restoring billions worth of trade lost during the eight-year war.

On April 10, Iraqi Minister of Trade Mohammed Hisham al-Ani visited Damascus to seal a wide-ranging protocol with his Syrian counterpart. The agreement entailed broad cooperation in the spheres of energy, water and transportation, as well as commerce, investment and banking.

Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis, whose cabinet is currently grappling with unprecedented energy shortages, stressed to the Iraqi trade minister the importance of resuming land transport between Syria and its oil-rich neighbor.

EYE ON AL-QAIM
The key crossing to watch is Al-Qaim (Albu Kamal on the Iraqi side), the only one along Syria’s 600-kilometer border with Iraq that is controlled by the Syrian government.

To date, there has been no movement through the crossing. The unspoken assumption is that US political pressure is preventing the Iraqi government from reopening this vital land border.

Despite valid security concerns of lingering ISIS pockets, the connection is logistically and diplomatically feasible.

The suspicions of US intervention come against the backdrop of similar allegations of pressure on Jordan. Last month, reports emerged that officials from the US embassy in Amman had warned Jordanian businessmen against investing in the Syrian market and moved to block shipments of oil products from Jordan to Syria. Such pressures could explain why the reopening of the Nassib border crossing with Jordan has reaped only meager benefits for both countries to date.

Leaked ISIS letters reveal Baghdadi is still alive and leading the terrorist group
[ALMASDARNEWS] Over the past few years, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
’s death has been reported numerous times, but the ISIS* leader has re-emerged each time, even reportedly surviving an liquidation attempt in January.

The latest clues related to the status of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi indicate that the most wanted man in the world is "at least alive", Fox News reports.

The news outlet referred to copies of several December-dated letters from ISIS operatives to Baghdadi obtained by The Sunday Times earlier this month.

In one letter, ISIS commander Abu Taher al-Tajiki reportedly briefs Baghdadi on potential target sites for the terrorist group’s strikes in Europe.

"The letters underscore that not only is ISIS [ISIS] seemingly devoted to overseeing global attacks, but that its shadowy commander still pulls rank", Fox News reports.

The Sunday Times, in turn, cited Mohammed Ali, one of the ISIS gunnies captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as saying that the jihadists believe Baghdadi is not present in the sliver of land still held by the terrorist group, but is hiding somewhere in the desert outside Syria.

According to the newspaper’s source, the disappearance of the ISIS leader has spurred internal fighting within the terrorist organization.

Sabah al Namaan, Baghdad’s spokesperson for its counter-terrorism agency, for his part, told Fox News in early April that Baghdadi is still in the Syrian desert, and that he "could not enter into the Iraqi side because of concerns about evading the security measures on the borders".

Namaan added that killing him or arresting Baghdadi "will reveal many secrets about how they have recruited tens of thousands of young men, and it will create a gap in the organization."

"Hopefully we will reach him very soon, especially now that ISIS has been defeated in its final place in Baghouz, Syria and they have lost all their land in Iraq. Now, we have a real opportunity to catch or kill him", he underscored.

He was echoed by Hamid al-Hayes, the head of the al-Anbar Salvation Council, who claimed that Baghdadi was still in Syria near the Iraqi border and that the ISIS leader "has shaved his beard and changed a large part of his features [so as] not to be identified and tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
Hisham al-Hashimi, a member of Iraq’s National Reconciliation Commission, in turn suggested that all the clues pinpoint Baghdadi in "three possible locations", including Syria’s Palmyra, the Homs desert or Iraq.

"All these locations are very wide and very large with around 200 square miles [500 square kilometres]. He is a specialist at knowing how to survive, using different disguises and only with two people ‐ his brother and his driver ‐ with him", Hashimi was quoted by Fox News as saying.

Earlier, The Guardian reported, citing intelligence forces, that Baghdadi had barely survived an liquidation attempt in a village near Hajin in eastern Syria on 10 January. Following the incident, which was reportedly the work of some of Baghdadi’s closest imported muscle, his bodyguards took him to the nearby desert.

In June 2017, Russia’s Defence Ministry said that Baghdadi could have been killed as a result of an Arclight airstrike by the Russian Aerospace Forces, but several months later an alleged audio recording of Baghdadi emerged, casting doubt on his liquidation. The US, meanwhile, reportedly continues to offer up to $25 million for information leading to Baghdadi’s capture or death.

Malta to deny Russia access to airspace if they are supplying Venezuela
[AMN] The Maltese authorities have refused to allow Russia use their airspace in order to deliver supplies to the Venezuela, the U.S. Department of State said on Friday.

“We applaud the government of #Malta for refusing to allow Russian planes to use its airspace to supply the brutal former regime in #Venezuela. We call on all countries to follow Malta’s example to stop the Kremlin’s support for the dictator Maduro,” the new spokesperson for the Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, tweeted this morning.

Russia’s flight plan to Venezuela often includes flying over the Mediterranean Sea; however, with Malta denying Moscow access to their airspace, they will have to adjust their route in the future.

The Russian government recently delivered a large amount of aid to Venezuela, which was in line with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) regulations.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is currently under heavy sanctions from the U.S. and several of their allies, while countries like Russia, China, Turkey, and Iran continue to aid the government of Nicolas Maduro.

Syria says Iranian oil tankers blocked at Suez Canal if shipment is destined for Syrian port
[ALMASDARNEWS] Under the sanctions imposed by the U.S. and Great Britain, no Iranian oil tankers are allowed to transit the Suez Canal if they are destined for a Syrian port, a Syrian military source told Al-Masdar News this morning.

The source said Iranian oil tankers are allowed to enter Mediterranean waters if the ship is destined for Turkey; however, due to U.S. and U.K. sanctions, the vessels cannot transit again if they dock at a Syrian port.

Europe
German Economy Heads for Worst Growth in Six Years
[Bloomberg] The German economy is turning into Europe’s underperformer, with the government now predicting 2019 will see the weakest expansion in six years.

Amid slowing global momentum and concerns over Brexit and trade disputes, the economy ministry on Wednesday cut its estimate to 0.5 percent, half the pace previously forecast. It’s the latest in a series of downward revisions from a 2.1 percent projection a year ago. Growth for next year is seen at 1.5 percent.

While there’s been a small improvement in business confidence, manufacturing in Germany remains mired in a deep slump. Based on European Commission forecasts for the rest of the euro area, the government’s latest prediction would leave Germany as the region’s worst performer this year, bar Italy, which is stagnating.

Crimea vows to ship oil to Syria amid ongoing fuel crisis
[MOBILE.ALMASDARNEWS] The President of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, vowed to help the Syrian Arab Republic amid their ongoing fuel crisis that is a result of the sanctions imposed on the country by western nations.

Aksyonov told Russia’s Sputnik News that there are plans to export wheat, petroleum derivatives and power tools to Syria as well as rebuilding railways there.

He pointed out that whether it is Crimea or Russia, they are willing to export products to Syria in order to help the war-torn nation.
