China-Japan-Koreas
China's pension crisis
[American Thinker] Welcome to First-World Problems
China faces the biggest pension crisis on the planet with its social security systems running out of money by 2035 and many provincial and business retirement funds already broke.

Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released a study estimating that China's main state-sponsored social security fund could be exhausted by 2035, or about the same year as actuaries for the U.S. Social Security Trust Fund estimate its fund will run dry.

But the more immediate problem for China is that nearly half of China's 31 provincial regions expect to report operating shortfalls in their basic pension funds by 2022, compared to six in 2015. Despite federal subsidies, the northeastern China rust belt province of Heilongjiang was forced in to begin delaying pension payments in July 2018.

Only about 17.3 percent of Chinese were 60 years of age or older in 2017, compared to 21.8 percent in the U.S. But due to China's population of 1.4 billion versus 326 million in the U.S., China had 240 million people age 60 or older, compared to 70 million in the U.S.
"Bring on the swine flu!"
Unlike the U.S., which experienced its baby boom in the 1950s and is currently in a retirement boom, China's biggest baby boom was during the 1980s and its retirement boom is approaching. As a result, the number of Chinese 60 and older will skyrocket to 300 million in 2025; 400 million in 2033; and 490 million by 2050.

The international accounting and consulting firm KPMG issued a white paper that estimated in dollar terms that China's state social security system without "significant" reforms would see its funding gap spike from $590 billion in 2017 to $1.1 trillion in 2025.

With 80 percent of workers employed by a state agency or state-owned enterprise through 1978, Chinese workers expected the communist "iron rice bowl" would provide guaranteed lifetime pensions payments, plus free healthcare and public housing. But with the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union and collapse of international communist trading networks forcing China to open up its economy to competition, the state-owned enterprise sector had shriveled to just 15 percent of employment by 2017.

Mandated pension contribution rates for Chinese employers to state-run pensions are very high, but a 2018 survey by China's social-insurance information provider 51Shebao found that more than 70 percent of Chinese firms were behind on their social insurance contributions and only 27 percent of companies made full payments.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Airlines eye crueler ways of making passengers miserable
[Anchorage Daily News] News this week that Delta Air Lines is testing seats that recline even less should be sufficient to confirm airline passengers’ fears that things will only get worse before they get, almost certainly, worse.

But give Delta this much credit: At least they're still providing seats.

A glimpse of how bad things really could get was provided the other day at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2019 trade show in Hamburg, Germany.

The event featured plenty of innovations intended to make air travel more comfortable for those who can afford top-dollar trimmings, including first-class and business-class seats with lots of amenities.

And then there was the Italian seat manufacturer Aviointeriors, which displayed the latest iteration of its Skyrider "standing seat." It's an idea that the company unveiled about a decade ago and keeps refining to make it more appealing to airlines.

Imagine a bicycle seat with a lightly padded, upright piece of plastic to lean against.

That's pretty much the Skyrider, which Aviointeriors is hoping will be the hot ticket for carriers looking to cram even more seats into economy-class cabins, particularly for shorter flights.

"Skyrider is concept foundation of new way to travel in the short-haul routes," the company declares in passable English on its website. "Innovation is driving Aviointeriors in developing a new concept of a family of economy seats."

I reached out to Aviointeriors by email to see what kind of interest airlines have shown to the Skyrider and whether any orders have been received. I didn't get a response.

But considering that Aviointeriors has been steadily tweaking the design to meet carrier and regulatory requirements, I'm figuring they're serious about getting this product into the aviation marketplace.

German police stumble upon huge stockpile of chemicals during routine call out
[TheLocal.DE] Police officers in the town of Preußisch Oldendorf, north of Bielefeld, stood guard outside the suspect warehouse on Monday, as investigators scratched their heads as to what the possible use of the dangerous substances could be.

A day earlier firefighters had discovered suspicious looking barrels during an operation at the address that had been triggered by a cable fire in the storage facility’s electric circuits.

Further inspection revealed that 35,000 litres of sulphuric acid, caustic soda and phosphoric acid were being illegally held in huge 1,000-litre barrels at the the 650-square metre unit. Some 50 propane bottles were also found at the site.

Experts trained in handling chemicals were set to arrive at the scene later on Monday to transport the chemicals to a secure location.

Two men were spotted fleeing the site in a large vehicle when firefighters arrived on Sunday. The warehouse’s owner has denied any connection to the crime, claiming that the legal tenant had sublet it to a third party without his knowledge.

Police have not yet given any further indication as to the suspected nature of the crime.

However, sulphuric acid and caustic soda are both used in the production of methamphetamines. The fact that the warehouse is located near the border to the Netherlands - a notorious hub in the production of chemical narcotics - is also likely to be more than just a coincidence.

Suspected UAE spy arrested in Turkey commits suicide: State media
[Aljazeera] One of two men suspected of spying for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Turkey has committed suicide in prison, state media has said.

Turkey's Haberturk news website first carried the report on Monday, with senior journalist Cetiner Cetin, who broke the story, saying the suspect hanged himself in Silivri prison on Sunday.

The suspect's death was later confirmed by the state-run Anadolu Agency.

Al Jazeera's Sinem Koseoglu, reporting from Istanbul, said Turkish authorities would investigate how he managed to kill himself as he was being held in solitary confinement.

"According to Turkish authorities, the two men were detained in mid-April, they claim they were Palestinian nationals and admitted to working on behalf of UAE intelligence," she said.

"Authorities believed that since relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt had been strained since the military coup in Egypt in 2013, those countries had been trying to build up a new system of intelligence gathering because of the situation."

Police: 8 shot, 1 fatally, in latest Baltimore shooting
BALTIMORE (AP) ‐ A gunman fired indiscriminately into a crowd that had gathered for Sunday afternoon cookouts along a west Baltimore street, killing a man and wounding seven other people, authorities and reports said.

Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said the gunfire erupted after 5 p.m. on a block in the city’s western district of brick row homes. Harrison said a man approached a crowd on foot and began firing in what he called "a very tragic, very cowardly shooting." Speaking at the scene afterward, Harrison said the shooting appeared "extremely targeted," but he didn’t provide a possible motive.

The shooting comes roughly six weeks after Harrison’s swearing-in last month as Baltimore police commissioner, when he promised to make the city safer and lead the department through sweeping reforms required by a federal consent decree. It’s a daunting task in one of the country’s poorest major cities where there were more than 300 homicides in each of the past two years. Harrison is the city’s 14th police leader since the mid-1990s.

The commissioner said there were two cookouts taking place on opposite sides of the street Sunday, and that shell casings were found in two different locations, indicating that there may have been a second gunman, or someone firing back at the first shooter, who fled on foot. It was unclear whether the cookouts were related, Harrison said.

Henry's New Side Gate Lever Action Rifle
[Henry] In the past, we have always taken inspiration from the original 1860s-era Henry rifle by opting to design our firearms with a removable tube magazine. We’re no sticks in the mud though, and when loyal Henry customers ask, loyal Henry customers receive. Our Side Gate Lever Action offers up the best of both worlds with our standard removable tube magazine for safe and easy unloading and a side loading gate to keep the magazine topped off.

True to Henry form, the Side Gate Lever Action features exquisite attention to detail and a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in other modern firearms. The hardened brass receiver is as reliable as it is handsome with the same yield and tensile strength as steel. The brass accents continue through the rifle with the buttplate and barrel band. The American walnut furniture is set off by intricate, deep checkering that will ensure a firm purchase on the stocks. A semi-buckhorn rear and ivory bead front sight accompanies a 20″ round blued steel barrel to deliver the accuracy you’ve come to expect from a Henry.

Transgender Admissions To All-Male, Historically Black College Undermine What It Means To Be A Black Man
[The Federalist] Beyonce’s new Netflix movie about her Coachella performance exposes the audience to the culture of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). HBCUs appeal to people because of their history and tradition.

These colleges continue to provide an education to black students, although all races are welcome to attend, that emphasizes being positive members of our community. While people like Beyonce and billionaire Robert Smith shining the spotlight on HBCUs can benefit the institutions, I fear mainstream culture has began to corrode the mission of some of these colleges. That includes my alma mater, Morehouse College, which has been an all-male institution ‐ until now.

Morehouse, the Powerhouse

Morehouse is an all-male college that boasts alumni such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Howard Thurman. The Atlanta-based college, like the city it is located in, has a strong gay male culture. In 2009, students cross-dressing on campus led administrators to create a dress code that explicitly forbade students from wearing women’s clothes.

Despite the dress code, the shifting culture around gender identity brought many young men who consider themselves gender non-conforming. I attended Morehouse with several non-conforming students who are biologically male, and I consider them just as much my Morehouse brothers as any other alumnus.

When Morehouse hired last year its first non-alumni president in five decades, I feared he would bring the sort of corrosive liberal policies that define predominantly white colleges and universities. This fear may have been founded, since the men’s college has recently changed its admissions policy to include the acceptance of transgender people who are biologically female.

The new policy states, "Morehouse will consider for undergraduate admission those applicants who live and self-identify as men, regardless of the sex assigned to them at birth." This makes it clear the agenda of its Ivy League-educated president is to make Morehouse just like the liberal, white campuses that he is accustomed to. The "who live" part of the policy is the most troubling.

15 Serial Killers, Rapists, Kidnappers, Child Molesters Eligible to Vote Under Bernie Sanders' Plan
[Breitbart] This week, socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) endorsed a plan that would allow felons serving time behind bars the right to vote from their prison cells.
"So, I believe people who commit crimes, they pay the price and they get out of jail, they certainly should have the right to vote," Sanders said during a town hall. "But, I believe even if they are in jail, they’re paying the price to society, but that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy."

Initially, Sen. Kamala Harris said, "I think we should have that conversation" when asked about allowing convicted criminals to vote from their cells, but she has since backtracked on that statement, declaring that she actually opposes giving felons in prison the right to vote.

"Do I think that people who commit murder and people who are terrorists should be deprived of their rights, yes I do," Harris said.

During a rally in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, Sanders doubled down on giving all incarcerated felons the right to vote from prison, comparing the plan to giving women and black Americans the right to vote.

"If you are a citizen, you have the right to vote. And that is a right we must protect because we know the history of this country, we know that women didn’t have the right to vote," Sanders said. "We know that African-Americans didn’t have the right to vote."

"Being an American citizen and having the right to vote is something that we must never, ever give up on," Sanders said.

Caribbean-Latin America
Pope Francis donates $500,000 to help migrants in Mexico
[IsraelTimes] Pope Francis donates $500,000 to help migrants colonists in Mexico, offering assistance to local projects that provide food, lodging and basic necessities.

The funds, from the Peter’s Pence collections, will be distributed among 27 projects promoted by 16 Mexican dioceses and religious congregations, Peter’s Pence said in a statement.

In recent months, thousands of migrants colonists have arrived in Mexico, traveling on foot or with makeshift vehicles from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. But they have been blocked at the border with the United States.

In particular, the aid is intended to assist the more than 75,000 people who arrived in Mexico in 2018, in six migrant caravans.

"All these people were stranded, unable to enter the United States, without a home or livelihood," the statement says.

#5  I'd like to thank the pope for easily demonstrating how much 'free people' cost.

I am guessing that this money is not out of his own wallet. Think about that for a second, all the effort and money it took to free up $500k - I'd guess that it took $1.5 million to make the $500k. That is for just one day of 75k 'free people'.

Never mind the wear and tear on the infrastructure, damage from criminal activities, landfill and sanitation concerns, so forth. Oh, and the sweet, sweet graft of only half of it actually being used as intended. I know, optimistic.

One killed, three injured in two attacks in Thai south
[The Nation] One man was killed and three others wounded in two separate shootings in Thailand's southernmost province of Pattani on Thursday evening.

In Sai Buri district, a paramilitary ranger volunteer Pathompong Kaewthong and his wife Nureehan Dengla were shot and injured in Tambon Kadunong while riding home on their motorcycle after shopping at a local market. Two men on another motorcycle overtook them on the road and the passenger shot Pathompong in the head. A stray bullet also hit Nureehan's leg.

Police found that Pathompong was on leave and visiting his wife's hometown. They suspect that the assailants had been monitoring him because he worked for the military and attacked him as part of the ongoing southern insurgency.

In Yarang district, ice-cream vendor Rosadee Nidae was gunned down at a market in Tambon Khao Toom. A stray bullet also hit a bystander. Police found that the shooter had brazenly walked among the shoppers, then pulled out a gun and shot Rosadee twice before fleeing with an accomplice, who had kept his motorcycle running so they could make a speedy getaway.

Police are trying to establish if the second attack stemmed from the ongoing unrest or from a personal conflict.

Story behind an unsuccessful assassination bid
[DAWN] Security agencies and police have unearthed new startling evidence that sheds light on the hours-long shootout in one of the city’s posh areas resulting in the death of five murderous Moslems and martyrdom of two law enforcers, Dawn was informed.

The mounting evidence, police and security officials say, belie claims by some individuals with "vested agenda" that the 17-hour-long shootout with murderous Moslems holed up in a house, was staged. The house was located at a narrow street and the shootout on April 17 was witnessed by neighbours.

"Those casting doubts and aspersion on our credibility have vested agenda. They wouldn’t explain how an assistant sub inspector of the counterterrorism department lost his life, or how, a soldier was killed. They wouldn’t explain why, if the murderous Moslems indeed were innocent, the TTP owned them, or why they did not surrender, despite several attempts made through public sound system," a security bigshot said.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Baltimore, a den of thieves
[American Thinker] A lot of solid blue cities are getting raided by the FBI for corruption these days - Los Angeles, Taylor, Michigan, near Detroit, Chicago, the town of Harvey, Illinois, near Chicago, Edinburg, Texas... But none look quite so corrupt from top to bottom as Baltimore, whose mayor seems to be on the run from the long arm of the law (oh, wait, pneumonia) over a corrupt book deal, and now thieves are coming out of the woodwork like cockroaches. Here's the Baltimore Sun's description of the latest details:
The job training nonprofit raided Thursday by federal agents as part of an investigation into Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh is run by an executive director who was convicted of stealing $852,000 from a previous employer, court records show.

The Maryland Center for Adult Training, also known as MCAT, has received hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past decade from city, state and federal government agencies to provide training for men and women to become certified nurse assistants and medical technicians.

Since Pugh became mayor in December 2016, the city has awarded the organization $28,649 ‐ mostly from a federal Department of Labor program and local casino money ‐ to provide nurse training through last June. But MCAT’s approval to conduct that training expired in May, according to the Maryland Board of Nursing.

The nonprofit has not reapplied for certification. Nonetheless, Baltimore officials agreed in October to lease MCAT an office in the 4900 block of Park Heights Ave. ‐ which federal agents raided Thursday. Documents prepared for the city’s spending board, which approved the lease Oct. 3, stated that MCAT was "certified by the Maryland Board" to train people to become nursing assistants.

Hiring a convicted thief. Using city funds to train people at an unaccredited school. Pouring money into the school even when there was no school. This is just one corner of the blue-city empire that Baltimore had become and there are quite a few others as this list of stories shows here. Any question as to why the city was so dysfunctional? It was a one-party city, its minions had the leftist contempt for rule of law, its denizens figured no one would ever be looking for it, and they were all convinced they were in to rule forever. Having zero changeover in government for decades, as was the case in Baltimore, was the perfect setup for corruption.

The great Wye oaks of Talbot county were used as foundations but today many have rotted away. Those foundations of cedar remain today strong as ever as they were placed hundreds of years ago. The Paleostinians have protested the law, refusing to receive any of the taxes Israel gathers for them on a monthly basis, as long as the Jewish state does not transfer them their full amount.

The taxes Israel collects and transfers to the PA make up hundreds of millions of shekels, more than half of its monthly budget.

Wives of four Abu Sayyaf commanders arrested
[Inquirer] Philippine police on Tuesday arrested four women they said were wives of Abu Sayyaf commanders who took care of their financial transactions, helped obtain guns and bomb parts, and arranged the travels of foreign militants into the country. The women were nabbed in raids on houses in southern Zamboanga City where authorities seized two grenades, a bag of suspected ammonium nitrate and bomb-making parts.

The women worked under Abu Sayyaf leader Hajan Sawadjaan, the main suspect in the January 27 bombing of a Roman Catholic cathedral that killed 23 people in nearby Sulu province’s capital town of Jolo. The cathedral attack by two suspected suicide bombers triggered the latest military offensive against the Abu Sayyaf.

Sawadjaan has been regarded as the current leader of small insurgent groups aligned with the Islamic State. Police officials suspect he may be harboring at least one more potential suicide attacker, an Arab militant, in his jungle encampment near mountainous Ptikul town in Sulu.

Apparent outbreak of African Swine Fever in North Korea
[DAILYNK] African Swine Fever (ASF) is on the rise in China and other areas in Asia recently, and the disease has now spread to North Korea, according to multiple sources inside the country.

ASF began to spread in the Hyungjaesan District, Sungho District and other areas on the outskirts of Pyongyang from mid-February and has led to the deaths of many pigs that had been raised by families.

When ASF began to spread, North Korean authorities prohibited the distribution and sale of pork from late February and there are still prohibitions on the sale of pork at markets and raising pigs.

North Koreans, however, are still selling pork at markets despite these restrictions.

"People are selling the pigs in the markets regardless of the what the authorities say," a a source in Pyongyang told Daily NK April 23. "There are a lot of people who are buying the meat of pigs that died of the disease and butchered pigs as well."

A North Pyongan Province-based source told the Daily NK that ASF struck pigs in Kusong starting in February. "The disease isn’t as bad as it was before...but the authorities are cracking down on the sale of pork at markets where it has spread," he said.

There are rumors among North Koreans that ASF is spread through the air.

"People think that the disease is spread through the air," said a separate Pyongyang-based source, while an additional North Pyongan Province-based source told the Daily NK that "there are rumors that wild boars are also infected so people think that ASF started with the wild boars and spread through the air."

The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) stated in its Early Warning Early Action Report on Food Security and Agriculture released on April 15 that North Korea is a high-risk country due to ASF.

He claimed that Baghdadi is currently hiding in Jabal Abu Rajmin with some of his supporters near the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra.

Beijing’s maritime militia, the scourge of South China Sea
[ATimes] China uses hundreds of fishing trawlers, manned by military-trained sailors and modified for ramming and spying, to seize islands

The shock troops of Beijing’s maritime empire-building are far more humble than the fleet of modern warships that paraded off Qingdao on Tuesday to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.

Even as President Xi Jinping was reviewing a sail-past of his new generation of guided missile destroyers and other modern warships, his equally potent small-boat navy was at work off the Philippines.

For two years, scores and sometimes hundreds of Chinese fishing ships have been harassing, swarming and spying on Filipino construction crews upgrading infrastructure on the island of Thitu, known as Pagasa in the Philippines. This is the second largest naturally occurring island in the Spratly archipelago, and is home to about 100 Filipinos and a small military detachment.
The Thitu confrontation is part of a much larger, long-running dispute between Beijing and Manila over ownership of islands and islets in the Spratly group and other South China Sea features such as the Scarborough Shoal and Mischief Reef.

Mexico 'Concerned' by Delays at U.S. Border Crossing Points
[AnNahar] Mexico expressed fresh concern to the United States Friday about delays in the movement of goods and people across their border, after becoming Washington's biggest trade partner for the first time earlier this year.

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
last month threatened to close the border if Mexico didn't stop illegal immigrants colonists from reaching the US.

"During the month of April there has been an economic impact to Mexican and American companies caused by the delays in customs," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The situation on the border "negatively impacts trade as well as the sources of employment and consumers in both countries," it said.

According to the Foreign Ministry, in the first two months of the year Mexico was "for the first time in history" the main trading partner of the United States, with goods worth $97 billion changing hands.

Data from the Ministry of Finance shows that from January to November 2018, bilateral trade was worth $527 billion.

Some 80 percent of Mexico's exports are to the United States.

In March Washington ordered the re-assignment of 2,000 customs officers to support the border patrol in the processing of a wave of migrants colonists seeking to enter US territory. The stepped-up surveillance has sparked delays in processing the passage of goods and people.

Tens of thousands of Central Americans have traversed Mexico in so-called "caravans" in the hope of reaching the United States.

Trump says the migrants colonists are a threat to US national security and has demanded that Mexico detain them and send them home. He has also threatened to close the border if Mexico doesn't act.

Houthi forces launch important offensive in southern Hodeidah
[ALMASDARNEWS] Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
forces launched an imperative offensive in the southern part of the Hodeidah Governorate, today, targeting the areas controlled by the UAE-backed Giants Brigade.

Backed by heavy artillery, the Houthi forces stormed the defenses of the Giants Brigade in the northern part of the Hays District; this would result in a heavy battle that is still ongoing at this time.

According to a field report from the Hays District, the Houthi forces are looking to expel the Giants Brigade from this area and force the remaining UAE-backed troops to leave the southern outskirts of Hodeidah city.

This offensive by the Houthi forces is considered a violation of the U.N.-sponsored ceasefire, which is currently in effect across the entire Hodeidah Governorate.

at the start of this year; it has remained in tact for the most part, despite repeated violations by all warring parties.

Sudanese protesters, military council say talks ‘fruitful’
[DAWN] Organisers of the protests that drove Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
from power and the ruling military council said talks on Saturday on forming a transitional government were "transparent" and "fruitful."

Both sides announced they would set up a joint committee comprised of members of both the military council and the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change, a coalition of opposition groups led by the Sudanese Professionals Association, to tackle political disputes.

Saturday’s meeting came after the protesters agreed on Wednesday to resume talks with the military after a temporary break. The military also announced then the resignation of three members of the military council, whom the opposition had accused of being too close to al-Bashir.

But the Sudanese Communist Party, which is part of the protest movement, called late Friday for a fourth member of the council, deputy head Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo commonly known by his nickname Hemedti to step down.

Joe Biden On Anita Hill In 1998: ‘She Was Lying'
[The Federalist] Former vice president Joe Biden repeatedly said on The View on Friday that he believed Anita Hill from the moment he heard her tale of sexual harassment by Clarence Thomas. But he previously told Sen. Arlen Specter that it was clear her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee included lies.
So he's not always wrong?
"Not only didn’t I vote for Clarence Thomas, I believed her from the beginning. I was against Clarence Thomas, I did everything in my power to defeat Clarence Thomas and he won by the smallest margin anyone ever won going on the Supreme Court," Biden told "The View’s" Joy Behar.

But in 1998, Biden admitted to Specter that "It was clear to me from the way she was answering the questions, [Hill] was lying" about a key part of her testimony. The exchange was published in Specter’s 2000 memoir, "Passion for Truth: From Finding JFK’s Single Bullet to Questioning Anita Hill to Impeaching Clinton."

The issue is important, as the media and other partisans rewrite the historical record about Hill and her accusations. The widely watched hearings revealed inaccuracies in Hill’s various versions of events and ended with 58 percent of Americans believing Thomas and only 24 percent believing Hill. There was no gap between the sexes in the results. In the intervening years, activists have relentlessly attempted to change the narrative, writing fan fiction about Hill, bestowing honors on her, and asserting that her disputed allegations were credible.

On "The View," Biden claimed, "If you go back and look at what I said and didn’t say, I don’t think I treated her badly. I took on her opposition. What I couldn’t figure out how to do ‐ and we still haven’t figured it out ‐ how do you stop people from asking inflammatory questions?"

Sri Lanka
Day 9: Sri Lanka raids headquarters of hardline group suspected in church bombings
Day 8 can be seen here.
[DAWN] Sri Lankan police raided the headquarters of a hardline group founded by the suspected ringleader behind the Easter suicide kabooms of churches and hotels, a Rooters witness said, as Sunday mass was cancelled due to fears of further attacks.

Armed police in the town of Kattankudy searched the headquarters of the National Thawheedh Jamaath (NTJ) and detained one man at the premises, a Rooters news hound at the scene said. Police did not comment.

On Saturday the government banned the NTJ under new emergency laws. The authorities believe Zahran Hashim, the founder of NTJ, criminal masterminded and was one of the nine jacket wallahs in the attacks on Easter Sunday which killed 253 people. The hard boy Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group grabbed credit for the attacks.

Police sources told Rooters on Sunday that Zahran's father and two brothers had been killed two days earlier in a shootout with security forces. A relative identified the three men in a video circulating on social media calling for war against non-Moslems.

The Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Ranjith, who had asked churches to suspend Sunday mass due to security fears, delivered a televised special sermon from a chapel at his home. The service was attended by President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa. The archbishop said earlier this week that he had seen an internal security document warning of further attacks on churches.

"We cannot kill someone in the name of God ... It is a great tragedy that happened," the archbishop said in his sermon.

"We extend our hand of friendship and fraternity to all our brothers and sisters of whatever class, society or religion that differentiates us." The archbishop and politicians then lit candles to commemorate the victims.

Most of those killed in the Easter Sunday attacks were Sri Lankans. The dead also included 40 foreigners, including British, US, Australian, Ottoman Turkish, Indian, Chinese, Danish, Dutch and Portuguese nationals.

Police believe that radical Moslem preacher Zahran led the NTJ ‐ or a splinter faction ‐ to mount the attacks in Colombo as well as on a church in Batticaloa in the east.

The authorities have named the other group suspected of involvement as Jammiyathul Millathu Ibrahim.

Neither group were well known before the attacks but the government has come under heavy criticism for not heeding intelligence warnings of the bombings, including one from India's spy service hours before the attacks.
CNN adds:
In Friday's shootout, one wounded suspect fled on a motorbike, and another suspected terrorist could be on the run as well, Maj. Gen. Aruna Jayasekera said.

One of the six suspected terrorists found dead has been identified as Mohamed Niyas, known to the authorities as a prominent member of the National Tawheed Jamath. Earlier in a statement from the army, Niyas was identified as the brother-in-law of the alleged ringleader of the Easter Sunday attacks, Zahran Hashim.

The Sri Lankan army revealed Saturday that one of the suspected Easter Sunday bombers -- Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed, who killed himself while detonating a bomb at the Tropical Inn Guesthouse on the outskirts of Colombo — traveled to Turkey with a friend "in the hope of entering Syria." While the friend later joined ISIS in Syria, Mohamed returned to Sri Lanka.

Security beefed up in Diyala as Iraqis commemorate terrorist attack victims
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) — Security measures have been beefed up in the Iraqi province of Diyala as hundreds of citizens are set to commemorate the victims of a suicide bombing that targeted a popular gathering in 2014, leaving over 50 people dead and wounded.

A local source told Iraqi website Baghdad Today that security forces have been heavily deployed in Basha Kobri district and its neighborhoods to secure a ceremony in commemoration of the victims of the suicide bombing attack that took place near the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in April 2014, leaving over 50 people dead and wounded.

The source added that the commemoration ceremony will be attended by a raft of officials, as well as political and well-placed officials and citizens.

The Islamic State (IS) militant group has been behind attacks targeting crowded areas, including markets, cafes and mosques across Iraq over the past few years.

Shin Bet Prevented Hamas Suicide Attack On Election Day
[Jpost] The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) foiled a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror attack planned to take place around the elections, the agency announced on Sunday morning.

According to the statement, the Shin Bet, along with the IDF, had uncovered a terror cell in the West Bank that had been recruited by senior Hamas operatives from the Gazoo Strip to carry out a boom-mobileing attack near the West Bank settlement of Ma’aleh Adumim outside Jerusalem.

Authorities tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
a cell activist and Hamas activist, 23-year-old Yahya Abu Dia, from the village of az-Za’ayyem on March 31. During his investigation, authorities uncovered that he had been recruited by senior Hamas operatives in the Gazoo Strip that he had been in contact with online and that he had agreed to act as a jacket wallah.

As part of his ties with Hamas operatives in the Strip, Abu Dia was asked to buy a car and rent a storage room to prepare a boom-mobile. He was also asked to monitor locations in the Ma’aleh Adumim area, where there was a high concentration of buses, civilians and soldiers to carry out the attack.

"Abu Dia followed the instructions of the cell, carried out observations on civilian sites, and reported to the cell about the best location to carry out the attack, while sending instructions to carry out the attack quickly," read the statement from the agency.

The agency said that as part of preparations for the suicide kaboom, Abu Dia was asked by Hamas activists to film a will that he carried out the attack in the name of Hamas’s military wing. He planned to film the will before he left for the attack, wearing a Hamas military wing bandanna.

The Shin Bet said that he purchased a tripod to film the video.

"Hamas in the Gazoo Strip is constantly recruiting Hamas operatives from the West Bank region to carry out murderous terror attacks in order to undermine security stability in the region," said a senior Shin Bet source. "This activity of the Hamas military wing joins a long list of attempted terrorist attacks directed by Hamas which recruited activists in the West Bank and that have been thwarted by the Shin Bet in recent years and have thus far led to the arrest of many individuals. The Shin Bet security service and other security agencies will continue to act to prevent terrorist attacks by Hamas."

An indictment will be filed in the coming days against Abu Dia.

Russian Student Who Tried to Go to Syria Freed Early
[AnNahar] Russia on Saturday released a former student convicted for trying to enter Syria in a high profile 2016 case after she was granted parole this month.

Varvara Karaulova was freed from prison in Vologda, a city around 450 kilometres northeast of Moscow, the RIA Novosti news agency reported. She was released a year and 10 months early.

A military court sentenced Karaulova to four and a half years in prison in 2016 for trying to enter Syria after falling in love with an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. jihadist. She was detained a year earlier after she tried to cross into Syria from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
while still a philosophy undergraduate at the renowned Moscow State University.

This month a court ruled she posed no threat to society and should be released earlier.

Karaulova's case shocked Russia in 2016, as the then 21-year-old wept in court and said her attempt to cross in Syria was "all a mistake". It was also widely covered by state media.

Karaulova was charged with preparing to participate in a terrorist organization, but pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
, saying she was motivated by love for a Russian jihadist fighting in Syria.

She met him online while still a teenager and they wrote to each other for three years without meeting. In 2014, he went to Syria and told her he was fighting for IS. Karaulova converted to Islam and began warning a hijab. She disappeared without warning in May 2015, prompting a frantic search by her parents. They found that she had flown to Turkey and travelled to the border with other women hoping to join men fighting for IS. Ottoman Turkish border guards detained the group and she was forced to fly back to Russia with her father.

Thousands of people from the former USSR have travelled to Syria to fight with Islamists, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
, since Moscow intervened on the side of the Damascus regime in 2015.

Karaulova's case was particularly unusual in Russia since her family is not Moslem.
We’ve seen plenty of that kind of nonsense in Western Europe and England — the groomers do not focus only on Muslim girls.

India-Pakistan
Polio tragedy
[DAWN] IT started with a rumour. As province-wide anti-polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
efforts were under way in KP, around 75 students from a school in Badhber complained they had headaches, nausea and stomach aches after being administered polio drops. They were admitted in the Hayatabad Medical Complex, but were quickly discharged as doctors declared their condition stable. What had happened was likely a case of mass hysteria, given the fears that have been drilled in the population’s mind about polio drops for years. A video of a man at the hospital claiming the vaccines were causing children to faint ‐ and then, almost with comical effect, telling healthy children to ’fall asleep’ for the cameras ‐ began to do the rounds. It was clear what we were seeing was a hoax, the agenda of diseased mindsets. In another video, the same man claims some of the children have died. The man has now been incarcerated
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
, but the damage is done. The fake news spread like wildfire. It is disheartening that one barefaced lie appears to have sent Pakistain’s anti-polio efforts back, possibly by decades.
Of course, if your population wasn't pig-ignorant Muslim hysterics with no sense of civility, it wouldn't happen
Outraged parents from school set a basic health unit on fire, smashing its windows and doors, while thousands of others filled KP’s hospitals, panicking that their children would meet the same ’fate’. The events of a single day led to an 85pc rise in vaccine refusals across the province: 700,000 families refused to administer drops to their children. (During last month’s anti-polio drive, the number of refusals was 57,000.) In Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, some 164,000 families refused have their children vaccinated. On TV channels, charlatan intellectuals spoke against vaccinations, endorsing ideas by conspiracy theorists that have long been refuted, while a popular daily’s headline declared that hundreds of children fell sick after being administered polio drops in KP. No questions asked, no research undertaken, no evidence of critical engagement, the news was consumed and reproduced as fact.

And then the worst happened ‐ it always does when disinformation campaigns and fear-mongering are given free rein. A police officer responsible for protecting polio teams was bumped off in Bannu, followed by the killing of another police officer in Buner the next day. The day after that, a young woman health worker was killed in the line of duty. While the rest of the world has vanquished the polio virus, Pakistain lives with the shame of being one of three countries that have been unable to eradicate it due to obscurantist beliefs and a culture of paranoia and conspiracy that is so ingrained. In this critical time, disinformation and lies that endanger the lives of so many cannot be tolerated. Authorities must remain vigilant of those who espouse anti-polio propaganda ‐ be it through mosques or the media. And security should be beefed up for polio teams and their protectors instead of suspending the polio campaign, as the authorities have done.

in 2014 in Dhaka with materials to be used for making improvised bombs (IEDs), said Salahuddin Howlader, a prosecutor at the Metropolitan Special Tribunal in the capital.

They were found guilty and sentenced immediately under the country's explosives laws, the prosecutor said, adding one of them was sentenced in absentia as he was on the run.

"They were involved with several international krazed killer outfits including the RSO," he told AFP, referring to the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation, a small krazed killer group that was active in Myanmar's northern Rakhine state in the 1980s and 1990s.

Local media, citing the police charge-sheet on the case, said the three men were suspects in the 2014 Burdwan blast in the neighbouring Indian state of West Bengal that killed at least two people and maimed several while they were allegedly making IEDs.

"The charge-sheet read the accused admitted planning sabotage in Bangladesh with the assistance of international Islamist holy warrior outfits," the online edition of the mass circulation Bengali daily Prothom Alo said.

In recent years, the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) has emerged as the main Rohingya krazed killer group operating in Myanmar's troubled Rakhine state that borders Bangladesh's southeast.

In August 2017, Arsa attacked several police posts in Rakhine prompting a massive military crackdown that forced some 740,000 Rohingya Moslems to flee to Bangladesh, where they are housed in squalid refugee camps. The refugees joined some 300,000 Rohingya who have been living in the camps for years and even decades.

Bangladeshi security officials say no holy warrior groups such as Arsa or RSO operate in the camps, but this week the International Crisis Group said gunnies were increasing their grip on the settlements and were responsible for the murder of at least one Rohingya camp leader.

The conflict research group has urged Bangladesh to step up its police presence in the camps, saying gangs and holy warrior groups were now operating openly in the settlements.

Threats from turbans had left Rohingya leaders fearful for their lives and frequent murders were rarely investigated, the group said.

Bangladesh police said the creation of seven new police posts, the deployment of armed officers and better intelligence had improved security.

New Revelation: The Corruption Is Leading Right Back To The ‘Scandal-Free' Obama White House

The Hill’s John Solomon has uncovered new information which provides one more indication that much of the conspiracy to take down President Trump originated from the Obama White House.

Solomon reported that, in January 2016, the White House summoned Ukrainian authorities to Washington under the pretense of coordinating their nation’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts. (At this time, DNC consultant Ukrainian-American Alexandria Chalupa was warning Democrats that Trump was likely to tap Paul Manafort to run his campaign. I wrote about this here and here.)

Solomon wrote:
The January 2016 gathering, confirmed by multiple participants and contemporaneous memos, brought some of Ukraine’s top corruption prosecutors and investigators face to face with members of former President Obama’s National Security Council (NSC), FBI, State Department and Department of Justice (DOJ).

The agenda suggested the purpose was training and coordination. But Ukrainian participants said it didn’t take long ‐ during the meetings and afterward ‐ to realize the Americans’ objectives included two politically hot investigations: one that touched Vice President Joe Biden’s family and one that involved a lobbying firm linked closely to then-candidate Trump.
Solomon spoke to a former Ukrainian Embassy officer, Andrii Telizhenko, who said, "U.S. officials kept talking about how important it was that all of our anti-corruption efforts be united."

The Americans told Telizhenko they were interested in reopening an investigation about improper payments to GOP lobbyist Paul Manafort from Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych who belonged to Ukraine’s Russia-backed Party of Regions. The FBI had closed this case in 2014. (Manafort’s firm had long been connected to Roger Stone.)

Telizhenko and other attendees "recalled DOJ officials asking investigators from Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) if they could help locate new evidence about the Party of Regions’ payments and its dealings with Americans." Telizhenko told Solomon. "It was definitely the case that led to the charges against Manafort and the leak to U.S. media during the 2016 election."
