-Short Attention Span Theater-
Anti-vaccination student who sued health department after being banned from school now has chickenpox
[AOL] A Kentucky teenager who made headlines when he sued a local health department over its vaccination policy has now come down with chickenpox.

Jerome Kunkel, an 18-year-old student at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Assumption Academy who was banned from school and his basketball team for refusing the chickenpox vaccination, now has the easily-preventable disease, a lawyer for the teen confirmed to NBC News.

Kunkel, who opposes vaccines due to his religious beliefs, reportedly understood the risk and still does not regret the decision.

"These are deeply held religious beliefs, they're sincerely held beliefs," attorney Christopher Wiest told the outlet. "From [his family's] perspective, they always recognized they were running the risk of getting it, and they were OK with it."

Kunkel sued the Northern Kentucky Health Department in March after it ruled that all students at Sacred Heart Assumption Academy who hadn't been vaccinated against chickenpox could no longer come to classes amid an outbreak of the disease, which began in February and included 32 confirmed cases.

"I don't believe in that vaccine at all and they are trying to push it on us," Kunkle's father, Bill, told WLWT.

A judge ruled against Kunkel and in favor of the Northern Kentucky Health Department in April, a decision that left the teen "devastated" and determined to appeal.

#7  It's not that the Chinese are spying. We don't know that.

We *do* know the Chinese are spying - extensive espionage campaigns, both military and industrial. A couple of intel professionals (was it CIA?) were nabbed just a couple days ago for spying for the ChiComs. There have been reports of computer motherboards with silicon back doors.

The Million Dollar Question: if you were the Chinese, and had the opportunity to backdoor national and international telecom networks, would you take it? I sure as hell would.

#10  Nope, I said that we don't know. An entirely different thing. But good on you all for deliberately misstating what I said. It's what the Left does.

However we do know for a fact that US equipment is backdoored by the NSA. You know, the Deep State? The unelected government that's a threat to us all? The Chinese aren't nearly the same level of threat to the American people. They're just nationalists who want what's best for their people. They actually take stances that give them an advantage in trade negotiations. Would that our own government had done the same 20 years ago.

#12  I'll give him credit. He is a much more sophisticated troll than most that have visited Rantburg in the past. It is true that we have some people in our government who have sinister intentions and a sophisticated troll would use that to make propaganda points. But we're dealing with it. We now have a president who recognizes the danger that China poses. We have elections that allow us to choose such a man. Further, we ourselves are sophisticated enough to recognize when Chicom advocates attempt to soft pedal the danger. You wanna talk about unelected governments that threaten us?

Where is this evidence of yours that NSA has installed back doors in all American made telecomm equipment? Post a link. Tell us where to look for it. And if it's true, and if elections fail to solve the problem, we still have the Second Amendment. That's more than you can say for the Chinese.

#15  Lol I'm not a troll you little man. I'm a patriotic American who loves his country and hates the NSA who spies on us despite a law telling them they can't.

The evidence? WTF were you in a coma when the Wikileaks came out? Snowden, ever heard of him? Exposed NSA spying on us?
Posted by: Herb McCoy || 05/09/2019 17:34 Comments || Top||

#16  I thought we were talking about back doors in telecomm equipment. How do you know that NSA installed back doors on all American and European made telecomm equipment? Huawei's back door would give the Chicoms access to the Brit intel computer network. You know, the emails and the databases. So Pompeo is telling the Brits he doesn't want to share those secrets with the Chicoms. Kinda makes sense to me. But it sounds like you wouldn't mind.

No, I'm not pleased with NSA spying. But it's a whole separate issue and it does NOT excuse the Chinese.

#17  Stop making things up and telling me that's what I think! Jesus!
Posted by: Herb McCoy || 05/09/2019 21:15 Comments || Top||

#18  Stop quibbling, guys. Each is right in his own way. But the Chinese are spying on America, just not for the same reasons that the federal agencies and many depts. of the NSA are. They were meant to be used against terrorism and jihad, and incidents like Heavensgate maybe.

China spies on all countries and their industry and universities, wherever they see innovation or an economic competitor rising, they'll either try to buy it off or steal it. That's all it's about. And maybe they also want AOCs and Bernies to gain more power in US politics. The Chinese are being ripped a new one by 'the Man' anyway.

Also, what the deep state does is beyond putting bugs or chips in mass produced home electronics. It's more nuanced and networked throughout every major and minor database of the government. What the system was meant to do is important for national security. In the right hands, it's an acceptable compromise.

It's replacing the blues in control of all that information that should matter to us all.

Mongolian Couple Dies of Bubonic Plague After Eating Raw Marmot Kidney
[Breitbart] Nine tourists were left stranded in a remote region of Mongolia after an unidentified local couple died from the bubonic plague.

The ethnically Kazakh couple died on May 1 after ingesting raw marmot kidney ‐ traditionally believed to have health benefits, according to Ulaanbaatar’s World Health Organization spokesperson Ariuntuya Ochirpurev.

Dr. N. Tsogbadrakh, director of Mongolia’s National Center for Zoonotic Dermatology and Medicine, said that the husband hunted and harvested the large rodent for his and his wife’s use.

Unfortunately, marmots are known carriers of Yersinia pestis, the bacterium that culled Europe as the "Black Death" in the middle ages. Once contracted by humans, it is extremely contagious and can be spread by coughing.

After their deaths, a six-day quarantine locked down the area, preventing nine tourists from Germany, Russia, and Switzerland from leaving. They, as well as 24-year-old American Peace Corps volunteer Sebastian Pique, were invited to the governor’s office on Friday to have the situation explained.

"After the quarantine [was announced], not many people ‐ even locals ‐ were in the streets for fear of catching the disease," Pique said. Fortunately, as no other cases have been reported, the quarantine is expected to lift on Monday.

According to the U.S. National Center for Zoonotic Disease, one person in Mongolia dies from the plague each year ‐ mostly from observing this cultural tradition.

[AreoMagazine] My mission in Psychological Operations was to conduct detailed analysis of what drives a population towards certain behaviors, taking historical, cultural, psychological and other possible factors into account, in order to assist in the implementation of Information Operations. The goal was to find useful information that could assist our security force partners in combating terrorist organizations, countering radical ideologies and unifying citizens within the conflicted countries.

Upon being medically retired from the Army in 2016 for PTSD‐including what is referred to now as moral injury‐I left Fort Bragg, North Carolina for the Midwest, to attend a major university. As a teenager, college had never been in my future, and, since I am fascinated by different cultures, I felt this was my opportunity to explore the experience that thousands of kids across the United States get every year.

#1  Total blasphemy! He must be stoned immediately.

I have studied culture across East and West Africa, and this is not the case. Black people across cultures are not the same, and white people across cultures are not the same. In order to produce these theories, small fractions of the population are surveyed, and then generalizations are made about their entire race. A small piece of life is being made to look as if it represents all of life. Believing this is no different from believing that social media represents real life.

#3  A large part of my job was to study beliefs, and I know that they will not change with one discussion, nor through forced logic. They are cemented inside individuals, and can only change over long periods of time.

Yeah, and after they've been brainwashed at our universities it's extremely difficult to talk to them. They freak out when confronted by facts that contradict the dogma that has been shoved down their throats in school. It's really scary. You can't beat them over the head with it. You just have to persist, gently, day in and day out. If I had known that this was being done I would have never forked over all that tuition money. They would be better off as plumbers, electricians or beauticians.

#4  Noam Chumpsky said in 1998: "The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum (stay within the Overton window) of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum – even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate."

IMHO, people in the liberal arts and social sciences have shot themselves in both feet (Not so much in the hard sciences.)

FBI Began Obstruction Case Against Trump BEFORE Mueller Appointed as Special Counsel
[SeanHannity] New court documents released this week show the FBI and DOJ opened an ‘Obstruction of Justice’ case against President Trump before Robert Mueller was appointed as the special counsel.

“A newly unsealed court document reveals the FBI opened an obstruction of justice case against President Trump before Special Counsel Robert Mueller was appointed to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 election,” reports Fox News.

“Mueller was appointed by Rosenstein in May 2017 to investigate any links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump campaign, as well any other matters that arose from the investigation,” adds the article.

Sudanese protest coalition calls for civil disobedience
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudanese protest and opposition leaders called on Wednesday for civil disobedience in response to the military’s "disappointing" answer to their interim constitutional proposals.

The Transitional Military Council (TMC) said it broadly agreed with the draft but that it neglected some important issues such as a reference to Islamic shari’ah as a source for legislation.

But the opposition groups’ umbrella body, the Declaration of Freedom and Change Forces (DFCF), said shari’ah was not a matter for the interim constitution, and that the TMC response would in effect give the military control of a proposed interim government.

"We call for and prepare for civil disobedience," Madani Abbas Madani, a DFCF leader, told a news conference in Khartoum.

Thousands of protesters have been camping outside the Defense Ministry in central Khartoum and, having secured a military overthrow of president Omar Hassan al-Bashir, are now demanding that the TMC hand over power to civilians.

The TMC has said it is willing to agree to a government of technocrats, but wants to retain overall control, pending elections, to prevent Sudan sliding into chaos.

Khalid Omar Yusef, another protest leader, said the aim was not to start a confrontation with the military but to speed up efforts to resolve the impasse.

Trudeau declines to say if Asia Bibi in Canada due to ‘security issues’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declined Wednesday to confirm whether Asia Bibi, the Christian woman at the center of a decade-long blasphemy row in Pakistain, has arrived in Canada.

"There are sensitive privacy issues and security issues on this and so I can’t comment," Trudeau told news hounds outside parliament after Bibi’s lawyer Saif ul Mulook and multiple security sources in Pakistain told AFP that Bibi had gone to Canada.

Bibi ‐ a laborer from Pakistain’s central Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

province ‐ was first convicted of blasphemy in 2010 and was on death row until her acquittal last year.

Her case has drawn worldwide attention to religious extremism in Pakistain, where the saga has sparked violent demonstrations and high-profile liquidations.

She has technically been free to leave Pakistain since January when the Supreme Court dismissed a legal challenge to her acquittal in October but awaited an asylum deal in a third country.

In November Trudeau said Ottawa was holding talks with Pakistain about bringing her to Canada.

On Wednesday British Prime Minister Theresa May appeared to confirm that Canada was her destination, saying its asylum offer was "right and appropriate."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said in a statement that she had "safely reunited with her family."

Gaza laments deadly start to Ramadan, amid funerals and debris
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] After two sleepless days and nights of Israeli shelling and Paleostinian rocket fire, Gazooks on Monday faced a first day of Ramadan overshadowed by funerals and the grim task of pulling bodies from collapsed buildings.
Life is tough. It's tougher if you're an extended tribe of truculent butt holes.
As dawn brought a ceasefire of uncertain duration, few Paleostinians in the impoverished coastal enclave were focusing on the sundown feast that is traditionally the highlight of the day during the Moslem holy month.

At Gazoo City’s largest hospital, Shifa, relatives of the 21 Paleostinians killed on Sunday - including 12 civilians - arrived to collect bodies for burial and prayers.

Outside, workers set about rebuilding power and phone lines devastated by the Israeli bombardment, which also razed entire tower blocks, leaving rubble strewn across the ground.

Other babus government employees lined up at banks to draw out money they had been unable to collect during the hostilities.

Israel will 'not allow' nuclear-armed Iran: Netanyahu
[DAWN] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Wednesday not to allow Iran to acquire nuclear arms after the Islamic republic said it would abandon limits on its nuclear activities agreed in a 2015 deal.

"This morning on my way here I heard that Iran intends to continue its nuclear programme," Netanyahu said at a ceremony on Israel's annual day of remembrance for its fallen soldiers and civilian victims of holy warrior attacks.

"We shall not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon," he said in Hebrew.

Italian Secret Agent Found Suspiciously Dead In Paris Hotel; Had Encrypted Key, Classified Docs
[ZeroHedge] French authorities are investigating the suspicious death of an Italian intelligence agent after he was found lying in a pool of his own blood and vomit with a serious wound to his chin.

According to French magazine Le Point, the agent - identified only as 50-year-old Massimo I - had been living at the hotel in the Montmartre district since May 3, arriving from Rome that day. He was carrying a business card in his name mentioning his employer as "Presidenza Del Consiglio Dei ministri," or the Presidency of the Italian Council off Ministers, currently headed by Giuseppe Conte.

According to the report, the agent was in France on a language course.

French security sources told Le Point that Massimo I was a member of the Italian intelligence services, while the Italian Embassy in Paris says it believes he died of natural causes - and that the gaping wound could have been caused during a fall. Firefighters attempted to resuscitate him around 1:30 a.m.

The hotel room safe contained an encrypted security key, 1700 Euros ($1,900 US), a USB key, an SD card adapter and an SD card. Agence France Presse also reported that classified documents were found. AFP also added that Massimo was identified as a "high-ranking civil servant in Italian intelligence."

The Local - France has the same story from the same French source.

How Hezbollah evades sanctions in Venezuela and partakes in Maduro’s drug trade
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The international media has been rife with analysis about the events of April 30th and May 1st, when Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guaidó, recognized by more than 54 countries, launched a popular uprising (in keeping with Sections 333 and 350 of Venezuela’s 1999 Constitution) to garner the support of the military command and oust the dictator Nicolás Maduro. His # OperaciónLibertad inspired the hopes of many millions of Venezuelans, two-thirds of whom are in a slow-motion famine, while Maduro’s pockets grow fatter by the day.

To be fair, Maduro did not invent the greatest kleptocracy of the modern era, with more than $200 billion stolen, according to conservative estimates. His predecessor Hugo Chavez set the mechanisms in place, but Maduro perfected them. In 2002, in response to an oil strike and a 48-hour removal from power, Chavez militarized the state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela, SA (PDVSA). Savvy, internationally-trained oil executives were ousted, and loyalist ideological military commanders ‐ who knew nothing about the oil industry but were tied to narcoterrorist organizations, including Hezbollah ‐ took over.

The transfer of authority enabled grand corruption schemes, with money supposedly designated for economic development flowing through slush funds. With Maduro’s ascent to power, it all got much worse. PDVSA’s finance department became a money laundering mechanism for everyone from Iran to the FARC to Russian organized crime.

Iran accuses US of carrying out ‘psychological warfare’
[DAWN] Iran’s top security body dismissed as "psychological warfare" a US announcement that a carrier strike group and bombers are being sent to the Middle East as a message to Tehran, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.

Tensions rose on the eve of the anniversary of the US withdrawal from world powers’ 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. Tehran is likely to revive part of its halted nuclear programme on Wednesday in response to the US move but does not plan to pull out of the agreement itself, state media said.

US national security adviser John Bolton said the United States was deploying the Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the Middle East in a warning over alleged threats by Iranian forces.

"Bolton’s statement is a clumsy use of a burnt-out happening for (the purpose of) psychological warfare," Tasnim quoted Keyvan Khosravi, front man for the Supreme National Security Council, as saying. Khosravi said the carrier had arrived in the Mediterranean weeks ago.

Iraq
Detaining families of ISIS members is unlawful, says HRW
That’s certainly one opinion...
(IraqiNews) Human Rights Watch (HRW) said that the Iraqi plan to arrest 280,000 people, who are alleged to be the families of ISIS members is illegal, while pointed out that the majority of these families are women and kiddies.
Don’t lets forget that att least some of those women were enforcers for ISIS, and at least some of those kiddies were brainwashed to be Lion Cubs of Islam.
HRW called the Iraqi government to stop the plan, while revealed in a report published, today, that the plan was submitted by Iraq’s Implementation and Follow Up National Reconciliation Committee in Iraq to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.

The report quoted Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch saying, "The Iraqi government proposal to confine alleged families of ISIS members not only violates international law but is also contrary to the government’s stated aim of reconciling populations post-ISIS."

She also added, "Detaining families not accused of any crimes is a form of collective punishment that will fuel resentment and put the lives of thousands of people on endless hold."

Furthermore, the HRW stated that in a meeting on April 7, the committee’s president, Dr. Mohammed Salman al-Saadi, shared the plan’s draft it, and he said that it would affect all spouses, children, siblings, and parents of alleged ISIS members, whether the member is dead, disappeared, or in detention. Human Rights Watch raised its concerns with the proposal in letters to Abdul-Mahdi and President Barham Salih last Month.

It also pointed out that al-Saadi said that the Ministry of Immigration will build compounds outside the cities to accommodate the families of ISIS, while indicated that the families who will be detained there will be allowed to leave only in certain circumstances, such as going to the hospital or to courthouse.

He also mentioned that the "Sunni Endowment" will participate in this plan through the provision of mandatory programs to end extremism, while added that the Iraqi forces will guard these compounds.

#1  HRW don't understand the Iraqi mindset then, or the dynami between sunni factions. All this os being done to simply re-assimilate the female ex-ISIS volunteers and their offspring into Iraqi society.

There will be some rudimentary 're-education', a few curbs and supervised living conditions for a few years, but then it's going to be back to the 'iraqi normal'.

If the world's governments really wanted to make a statement against sunni extremism they would have made an example out of ISIS by executing every POW from the war, every willing member of ISIS. The kiddies could have been re-assimilated through child protection and camps for the same.

Sri Lanka tourism takes a hit after bombings
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sri Lanka’s $4.4 billion tourism industry is reeling from cancellations as travelers shun the sun and sand Indian Ocean island after multiple suicide kabooms that killed over 250 people two weeks ago.

Suspected jacket wallahs from little-known groups in Sri Lanka attacked churches and luxury hotels in the country on Easter Sunday, killing worshippers, tourists and their families. ISIS grabbed credit for the attacks.

Tourism, which accounts for five percent of the country’s gross domestic product, has suffered as tourists from around the world cancelled hotel and flight bookings fearing more attacks.

"It’s a big blow to the economy, as well as the tourism industry," Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said in an interview on Saturday. "For the economy to develop, it’s important tourism return to where it was before the attacks."

Net hotel bookings dropped a staggering 186 percent on average over the week following the attacks compared to the same period last year, data from travel consultancy ForwardKeys showed. A decline of more than one hundred percent indicates more cancellations than bookings.

Cancellation rates at hotels across the country averaged 70 percent as of Saturday, with the capital Colombo taking a bigger hit, Sri Lanka’s Tourism Bureau Chairman Kishu Gomes told Rooters.

"Some airlines have also discontinued frequency of flights. Load factor is much lower than it used to be," Gomes said. "It is a worrying factor for sure."

Tourism took off in Sri Lanka, which boasts of a 1,600-km (1,000-mile) long coastline, following the end of the decades-long civil war with Tamil separatists in 2009. It was Sri Lanka’s third largest and fastest growing source of foreign currency last year.

Decisive policy and security measures will be important to revive the industry and support economic growth, the International Monetary Fund has said.

Setback for Tablighi Jamaat's plan to build terror linked ‘mega mosque' in London. Demolition still on
Good. Sense arises.
[Dawn] Tablighi Jamaat’s (TJ)
A group of itinerant Deobandi preachers who form one of al-Qaeda's recruiting arms...
plan to build Europe’s biggest mosque in East London suffered another blow when a high court judge last week threw out their petition seeking suspension of an injunction for the demolition of a smaller mosque located on the site.

The high court judge also disallowed the TJ plea for an appeal against the judgement reviving chances of the demolition of existing structures starting within weeks.

Only a restraining order from the European Court of Human Rights, where trustees had filed an application in the second week of this month, can save Masjid Ilyas and stop council bulldozers rolling into the 17-acre land which remained under a chemical factory for a century before trustees of UK Tablighi Jamaat bought it in 1995 for 1.6 million pounds.

Aasia Bibi leaves Pakistan, 'safely reunited' with family
[DAWN] Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman who was acquitted by the Supreme Court in a blasphemy case last year, has left Pakistain, a well-placed Foreign Office (FO) source told DawnNewsTV on Wednesday.

"Aasia Bibi has left the country. She is a free person and travelled on her independent will," the source said.
Good
The source did not specify what her destination was.

Agence La Belle France-Presse (AFP), quoting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, said Aasia Bibi has been reunited with her family.

"The United States welcomes the news that Aasia Bibi has safely reunited with her family," Pompeo said in a statement. "Aasia Bibi is now free, and we wish her and her family all the best following their reunification."

Aasia Bibi was acquitted of blasphemy charges by the Supreme Court on October 31, 2018, after spending nine years in jail on death row. The ruling sparked country-wide protests by religio-political groups.

After she was released from a Multan

women's prison on November 7 last year, she was flown to Islamabad via special aircraft, and then taken to an undisclosed location amid tight security.

The authorities remained tight-lipped about her movement and whereabouts for security reasons.

Qari Salam, the complainant in the case, filed a petition seeking review of the judgement in January this year, which the Supreme Court dismissed on merit.

Gaza: Pause, or a longer halt?
[AlAhram] Will the Egyptian-brokered truce to end military festivities in Gazoo hold?
No. The only question is how long until the next explosion, whether because someone local is in a mood or because Iran demands it again as part of a bigger effort.
The military clash that flared between Israel and Gazoo over the weekend ended as an Egyptian-mediated truce went into effect on dawn on Monday, the first day of fasting in Ramadan.

Paleostinians in Gazoo held funeral ceremonies for their deaders, including three women, two of whom were pregnant, two infants and a child.

Exit far left: India's communists face election angst
[DAWN] India's once-vibrant communist parties are in danger of falling off the political map in this month's general elections as voters lose their revolutionary fervour.

From 61 parliamentary seats and a key role in a coalition government formed in 2004, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and its hard left allies slumped to just 10 seats in the 2014 election.

CPM leader Sitaram Yechury acknowledged that the left cannot afford another fall as he lobbied for precious votes in the last communist bastion of southern Kerala state.

In the past, tens of thousands of Indians turned out for communist rallies, chanting proletarian slogans and wearing hammer and sickle neck chains with their Marxist-red t-shirts and hats. But today, the movement is fighting an increasingly desperate battle.

As the communists defend their six seats in Kerala, Yechury acknowledged the critical stakes while keeping up his onslaught against capitalism and right-wing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"The youth were led away by a lot of illusions," he said of the erosion of support for the communists.

"The neo-liberal blitzkrieg agenda will become an Eldorado and reality will hit them," the party secretary general predicted.

Yechury said the financial crisis of 2008 has made many people look to the left again.

"This is the first chance when we can test whether we are reversing the trend or not," Yechury said.

#1  One major reason for the decline of commie influence is the academic youth's abandonment of red doctrines. And the socialist face put on by mainstream political parties in India.

The academic abandonment is mainly because most of the KGB trained Indian intelligentsia of Indian Universities has died out. The current crop of doctrinaires is as mediocre as anything produced in suburban India with half knowledge and zero charisma.

Washington school district wants teachers to bless Muslim students in Arabic during Ramadan, religious liberty group claims
[FoxNews] A religious liberty advocacy group is threatening to slap a Seattle-area school district with a lawsuit claiming the district has urged teachers to bless Muslim students in Arabic during the holy month of Ramadan and give them preferential treatment, including skipping tests.

The Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund (FCDF) claims the Dieringer School District is officially endorsing Islam and is following a script by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) that urges schools to make special accommodations for Muslim students and to wish them "Ramadan Mubarak," which means "Happy Ramadan," or "Ramadan Kareem," which means "Have a generous Ramadan."

The CAIR guidelines also instruct teachers to monitor Muslim students fasting and suggests teachers not schedule any tests on the Islamic holidays of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.

“By urging teachers to bless Muslim students in Arabic, the district is running roughshod over the First Amendment’s mandate of government neutrality toward religion,” said Daniel Piedra, FCDF’s executive director. “A school district would never order teachers to ‘welcome’ Catholic students during Easter with ‘He is risen, alleluia!’ Singling out Muslim students for special treatment is blatantly unconstitutional.”

The defense fund claims Dieringer Superintendent Judy Martinson blindly followed the recommendations of CAIR and "enacted the letter as official district policy." The defense fund sent Martinson a letter stating their complaints after a teacher and parent complained about the new procedure.

The May 6 letter also warned Martinson about CAIR's anti-semitic advocacy and alleged ties to radical Islamists, which the group has long denied.

Tayyaba torture case: SC reserves verdict on appeals of convicts
[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgement on appeals filed by a judge and his wife, who were locked away
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
for torturing a minor maid employed as domestic help in Islamabad.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam had taken up appeals filed by former additional district and sessions judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen Zafar, who had been sentenced to one year in jail in April 2018 for keeping the then 10-year-old Taiba in wrongful confinement, burning her hand over a missing broom, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in a storeroom, and threatening her of "dire consequences".

In June 2018, when both convicts appealed against the sentence, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had increased their jail time from one year to three years, with a Rs500,000 fine.

Elephants march in Thailand to pay respects to newly crowned king
[DAWN] Ten elephants painted white marched on Tuesday near Bangkok’s Grand Palace to honour Thailand’s newly crowned King Maha Vajiralongkorn, a day after ceremonies for his coronation ended.

The animals and their handlers from the ancient capital of Ayutthaya walked for a short stretch before paying their respects to a portrait of the king.

Many among the crowd of enthusiastic onlookers held portraits of the king.

"I’m delighted because I’ve never seen this before in my 70 years," said cycle of violence taxi driver Boonsueb Unnimit. Elephants hold special significance in Thai history and culture.

"The elephant is a symbol of the monarch, a symbol of battles, as well as a symbol of peace and serenity," said Bangkok resident Panarat Panchuer, 61.

No elephants participated in the official coronation ceremonies, although the king to be presented with a white elephant, a gift that is considered especially auspicious, some time later. The three-day ceremonies started on Saturday, after a long period of official mourning for the king’s revered father, who died in October 2016 having reigned for 70 years.

Laithongrien Meepan, the owner of Ayutthaya’s Elephant Kraal and Village, said he was pleased the elephants managed to stay calm on Tuesday despite the bustling crowd and the heat.

"We’re here full of happiness and overwhelmed," he said.

A non-toxic, water-based paint mixed with powder was used to create the appearance of a white elephant without harming the animals, the Kraal centre said.

Doctors go underground as Syrian government attacks rebels
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian doctors have pulled back into cave shelters to treat the maimed and protect their patients from a government offensive that has hit health centers and hospitals in northern Syria’s last rebel enclave.

The assault began in late April with air strikes, barrel bombs, and shelling against the southern flank of the enclave.

The attack centered on Idlib province, an area nominally under the protection of a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire, which was agreed on more than eight months ago.

Limited ground advances have additionally taken place this week.

"The makeshift hospitals are very primitive," Osama al-Shami, a 36-year-old doctor, told Rooters. "We can barely save lives with the equipment we have, and many of the injured die because of the lack of resources and equipment."

UN Security Council to meet on Friday regarding Syria’s Idlib
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The UN Security Council will meet Friday to discuss the escalation of fighting in Syria’s northwestern region of Idlib, where hospitals and schools have been hit by strikes, diplomats said.

Belgium, Germany and Kuwait, three non-permanent council members, requested the closed-door meeting on Wednesday after Russia and the Syrian government stepped up their bombardments on Idlib.

The three countries are leading the council’s efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Syria, now in its ninth year of war.

Since April 29, 12 health facilities including two major hospitals have been hit in northwest Syria, according to the World Health Organization.

About three million people live in Idlib, the last major bastion to remain outside the control of the Syrian government.

Council members will hear a briefing from UN humanitarian officials on the surge in violence that has sent more than 150,000 people fleeing in one week alone.

The meeting is scheduled for 10.00 am (1400 GMT) on Friday.

The White House said it was targeting the country’s biggest revenue source after oil and warned in a statement: "Tehran can expect further actions unless it fundamentally alters its conduct."

The news sanctions came on the first anniversary of Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 landmark deal between Tehran and world powers, as US officials said they would keep squeezing Iran to force it to return to the negotiating table for a more comprehensive deal that would seek to curtail Iranian ambitions in the Middle East.

Hillsborough judge rejects move to stop Bobby Joe Long's execution
[TAMPABAY] A judge has denied an effort to stop the scheduled May 23 execution of Bobby Joe Long, a Tampa Bay area killer who murdered eight women in the 1980s.

Boko Haram kills nine in Nigeria attacks
[AlAhram] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters have killed nine people in two separate attacks in northeastern Nigeria, looting and torching a village and ambushing three farmers, officials and local militia forces said Wednesday.

Fighters packed in trucks stormed into the village of Molai just before sunset on Tuesday, when villagers were preparing to pray and break their fast for the Moslem holy month of Ramadan.

The jihadist button men, loyal to Boko Haram chief Abubakar Shekau
... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fired by the Caliph and refused to step down ...
, killed six people and burned dozens of homes.

Usman Kyari, who heads the state Emergency Management Agency, said six bodies were collected after the attack. All had been rubbed out.

"The gunnies burnt around 40 homes and looted goods," Kyari said.

Molai, which is five kilometres (three miles) from Borno state capital Maiduguri, has been repeatedly attacked by the jihadists.

A member of a militia force, which fights alongside regular government soldiers, said the Boko Haram fighters were too many and they were overpowered.

"We all withdrew from the village," the militia soldier said.

Later, Nigerian aircraft bombed the area, and the jihadists retreated, he added.

In a separate attack, Boko Haram fighters killed three farmers near the town of Konduga, 38 kilometres (24 miles) outside Maiduguri, militia leader Ibrahim Liman said.

"The button men slit the throats of the farmers and dumped their bodies," Liman told AFP.

The holy warriors often kill farmers, loggers and herders, accusing them of passing information to the army.

Digenova Looks Ahead - sez Admiral Mike Rogers is the hero (Video)
[Powerline] Attorney General Barr’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday offered a preview of coming attractions. He means to get to the bottom of the "spying" conducted by the Obama administration on the Trump presidential campaign. How did it begin? What’s it all about? What was going on? Did it involve abuse of the FISA system?

Of course, you had to tune out the Democratic static and listen to Barr’s exchanges with Republican members to pick up the preview, but it was unmistakably there. The Democrats’ hysteria reflects something more than motiveless malignity; Barr is the Attorney General Democrats should fear.

In a recent appearance appearing on FOX News’s Ingraham Angle, Joe diGenova offered a related preview of his own. Mike Huckabee was the guest host; he wrote about the segment here George Parry wrote about the segment for the American Spectator in "Listen to Joe diGenova." Subtitle: "And in the case of the Obama anti-Trump brigade, be very afraid." I have posted the video to which Parry links below. The FISA court findings to which diGenova alludes are in opinion and order here (Parry recommends pages 82 and following and also highlights diGenova’s praise of former NSA Director Mike Rogers for blowing the whistle on the illegal spying called out by Judge Collyer).

DiGenova asserts certain nonpublic information as a matter of fact: "The FISA court has already communicated with the Justice Department about its findings," and so on. DiGenova is not just a former United States Attorney, according to Parry, he is also former counsel to the FISA court itself. He may well have the knowledge he claims to possess, some of which involves imminent developments. Looking around online, however, one can see that diGenova made a similar prediction a year ago (video here at RealClearPolitics). With respect to his current preview, one can only say let it be.

#5  Not much has been heard from Admiral Rogers since his retirement. He was opposed to Brennan losing his security clearance. He stated at the time: “I also thought pouring gasoline on a fire is not going to reduce the flame,” Mr. Rogers continued. “We got enough fires burning right now, guys. We need to focus on what are the outcomes we need to achieve as a nation.” Here.

Perhaps Barr will be talking to Rogers in trying to get to the bottom of Spygate.

#6  Barr might want to talk with the Gang of Eight that was extant at the time and maybe current members. Some of them have left however, Reid, Rogers (the other Mike Rogers), Boehner, etc. Eight. They have Congressional oversight of the intelligence community. I wouldn't be too surprised if they don't want to talk. Some are more interested in subpoenaing DJT Jr. and keeping things under wraps.

Democrat Rep. Brian Sims May Have Broken State Law Videotaping Pro-Life Woman He Harassed
[LIFENEWS] Pennsylvania Democratic State Rep. Brian Sims thought it his duty to videotape and harass a pro-life woman protesting against abortion outside a Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party.
clinic in his district, repeatedly telling the unnamed woman he had the same constitutional right to film as she did to protest. While Americans have the right to record protesters in Pennsylvania, the state also has a strict a two-party consent state, meaning even in public both parties involved in a conversation must give consent to be audio or video recorded. At various points in the video, Rep. Sims indicates he wants to have a conversation, to each time the women says no and does not give permission to record.

At approximately 4:08 the woman begins to leave the vicinity of the Planned Parenthood area and Sims says, "Actually let’s keep walking down the block. We can talk about this. We can talk about your Christian faith, about how your Christian faith believes in shaming people." The woman clearly does not want to talk and says "Get out of my way" and "get your camera out of my face" indicating she does not consent to the conversation he wants to have nor to being recorded in public. Sims says, "no, no" and continues to berate the woman for nearly 9 minutes.

According to the ACLU, in Pennsylvania "You have a right to capture images in public places, but you don’t always have a right to record what people say. Pennsylvania’s Wiretap Law makes it illegal to record private conversations ‐ which can include conversations in public places ‐ without the consent of all parties to the conversation." However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
you legally can record protesters in public spaces.

But, given the fact the woman in the video was leaving the Planned Parenthood area, was not spouting anti-abortion rhetoric at the time Rep. Sims asked to "Talk", and she declined Rep. Sims the right to record their conversation, a good attorney might be able to sue Rep. Sims for breaking PA’s wiretap law.

Six hour Kabul attack ends, 5 assailants, 4 civilians killed: MoI
[KhaamaPress] The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the Afghan Special Forces killed all five forces of Evil involved in the attack on Counterpart International Office in Kabul city.

According to a statement released by MoI, the attack was launched at around 11:40 am in the 10th police district of the city with the forces of Evil armed with suicide kaboom vests and weapons initially detonating an exploding car near the office of Counterpart International.

The statement further added that the Afghan Special Forces managed to eliminate the remaining 5 assailants who had taken position inside the office of Counterpart International.

The Ministry of Interior also confirmed that four civilians including a woman bit the dust in the attack along with a policeman who was involved in the rescue operation.

The statement also added that the security forces managed to rescued at least 200 workers of the organization.

The Talibs group grabbed credit for the attack.
Tolo News adds:
The Taliban

attack on an international aid organization in Kabul which continued for six hours was labelled a crime against civilians as it was condemned by the government, the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
and the US Embassy in Afghanistan.

The US Ambassador to Kabul John Bass condemned the attack and said the targeted organization helps local communities, trains journalists and supports Afghan people.

"Strongly condemn Taliban attack against US NGO in Kabul today. The targeted organization helps local communities, trains journalists and supports the Afghan people. For this, it is the target of senseless violence.
Thanks to Afghan Security Forces for rapid response," Bass said.

According to the Interior Affairs Ministry, the attack ended at around 5:30pm after two attackers were killed by security forces.

Recent figures show that at least 15 people were maimed in the attack.

Nasrat Rahimi, a spokesman for Ministry of Interior Affairs, said that more than 170 employees of the International Counterpart were rescued by security forces during their operation. The organization operates in Afghanistan since 2005.

Pompeo: Iran nuclear announcement ‘intentionally ambiguous’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran’s announcement that it had stopped respecting limits on its nuclear activities agreed under a 2015 deal was “intentionally ambiguous”, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a visit to London on Wednesday.

“I think it was intentionally ambiguous... We’ll have to wait and see what Iran’s actions actually are” before deciding the US response, Pompeo said after a meeting with British foreign minister Jeremy Hunt.

I can virtue-signal about what wonderful things I'm doing for humanity and the planet, and since no one is under any actual obligation to do anything specific, it is easy to get all parties to commit. Trump briefs Republican senators on emerging US immigration plan
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and aides on Tuesday briefed a group of Republican senators on a merit-based immigration plan that would let more highly-skilled workers into the United States and fewer low-skilled workers, a senior administration official said.

The overall effect of the plan, the official told a group of news hounds, would be to leave the number of legal immigrants colonists allowed into the United States at about the same.

"We want to encourage immigration. But it’s got to be through the legal system," the official said.

Separately, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO, fellow maverick of Honest John McCain...
, whose committee would have to shepherd such legislation through the Senate, described the effort to news hounds as "a merit-based immigration proposal that deals with increases in work visas and decreases family visas." The latter refers to visas for relatives of immigrants colonists already in the United States.

Graham said the more pressing problem is dealing with large numbers of undocumented Central American families seeking asylum in the United States.

He said he would introduce a bill as soon as next week that could toughen asylum requirements and potentially extend the amount of time young immigrants colonists could spend in detention.

In recent weeks, Graham has said he would seek Democratic input, but if there was no agreement, then the "blame game" would begin, as the 2020 presidential and congressional elections near.

Lawmakers said none of the Republican measures do anything to protect from deportation the more than 1 million undocumented immigrants colonists brought into the United States years ago as children and referred to as "Dreamers."

LHC reserves judgement on bail pleas filed by TLP chief Khadim Rizvi, Pir Afzal Qadri
[DAWN] The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday reserved its verdict on bail pleas filed by Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain chief Khadim Rizvi and former TLP patron-in-chief Pir Afzal Qadri, and rejected an apology submitted by Qadri over incendiary remarks made by him during a protest against the Supreme Court's acquittal of Aasia Bibi.

Rizvi and Qadri were taken into "protective custody" by the state during a crackdown in November 2018 after the TLP announced it would observe deaders’ day on Nov 25, 2018. The arrests followed weeks after the TLP led three-day protests across the country against Aasia Bibi's acquittal.

The lawyers from both sides completed their arguments before the two-member bench headed by Justice Qasim Ali Khan today.

Court rejects Qadri's apology
The LHC had, in a May 7 hearing, directed Pir Afzal Qadri to submit a "detailed apology" for his controversial remarks after it found his initial public apology missing some key details.

When asked to define the "harsh words" Qadri had admitted to using in his apology, his lawyer Hafeezur Rehman Chaudhry said that according to the court record, the former TLP leader had said that the three judges [who acquitted Aasia Bibi] were liable to be killed, that Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer...
is a Zionist agent and that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Javed Qamar Bajwa's orders were not to be accepted.

Qadri, who had been booked under sedition and terrorism charges, had resigned from the TLP on May 1 citing health issues and, on the court's earlier directions, issued a public apology for his remarks.

"When the verdict of the Aasia Masih case was pronounced, my religious sentiments were hurt and I delivered a speech. I am very sorry for hurting the sentiments of the government, the judiciary and the chief of army staff," he had said.

At the outset, the court directed Qadri's lawyer to provide a straightforward written apology or accept a decision based on merit. Both judges raised questions over various aspects of the apology as it was shared with the court.

Justice Qasim, taking a critical view of the apology, said this way anyone could issue treasonous statements whenever they like, and then try to apologise by claiming that they were not thinking straight at the time.

"Why are they [such people] nurtured in laps, why are they not sent to psychiatric hospitals?" he asked.

Justice Asjad Javed Ghural pointed out that the written apology submitted in court used the word mansoob for the remarks issued by Qadri.

"Why did the written apology use the word 'attributed'?" he asked the lawyer, noting that it amounted to manipulation of language.

When Qadri's lawyer told the court that the education of many children had been impacted by the proceedings against his client, Justice Qasim wondered "what education must this man provide?"

"Such pirs should be hanged. They are ruining society," Justice Qasim remarked.

Two students open fire at Colorado school, killing 1, wounding 8
[DAWN] Two male students armed with handguns burst into a Denver-area school and opened fire on Tuesday, killing one classmate and wounding eight before being taken into custody, law enforcement officials said.
I saw another article saying that the juvenile is a girl who identifies as a boy.
That’s what Reuters says. Legally Maya Elizabeth McKinney, identifying as Alec McKinney. Said to have been bullied about it, while Mr. Erickson hated all the right things, as far as I can tell.
Two surviving victims of the attack at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) School in Highlands Ranch, a Denver suburb, remained at death's door, medical officials said. Others were stable or had been discharged from hospital.

An 18-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said a short time later. "Two individuals walked into the STEM school, got deep inside the school, and engaged students in two separate locations," Spurlock said.

He told Rooters in a brief interview that the suspects, each armed with a handgun, opened fire in two separate classrooms. Devon Erickson, 18, was named as one of the suspects, while the other was identified only as a juvenile. The school serves students from kindergarten through to 12th grade.

The Grand Turk
Election re-run could again delay Turkey’s economic reforms
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s long road to economic reform may have grown bumpier this week when authorities ordered a re-run of an Istanbul city election, further testing the patience of investors seeking a break with policies that triggered last year’s currency crisis.

After weeks of petitions and pressure from President Tayyip Erdogan’s AK Party (AKP), which narrowly lost the city’s mayoralty in a March 31 vote, Turkey’s election board declared the results invalid and set a new vote for June 23.
and another later if AKP loses this next one...
The lira has tumbled 2.5 percent since the ruling late on Monday, reflecting worries that during the coming election campaign the government could again pursue short-term stimulus measures such as tax cuts and costly steps to support the currency.

The lira fell 30 percent last year when Turkey tipped into recession, and has lost another 16 percent so far this year. The waning confidence, driven in part by the AKP’s election challenges, is the single biggest hurdle to reviving an economy plagued by high inflation and companies’ foreign-currency debt.

"Re-running the elections is a negative development in that it extends this period of uncertainty," said Edward Parker, managing director overseeing Turkey at Fitch Ratings, which last week reaffirmed a junk ’BB’ rating on its sovereign debt.

Echoing that view, Wolfango Piccoli, co-president of Teneo political risk advisers, said: "The prospects for reforms were bleak before and they are even bleaker now after the cancellation of the mayoral election in Istanbul."

At the heart of Turkey’s economic malaise is years of cheap foreign funding that drove a construction-driven boom under Erdogan. Once the lira collapsed last year, firms could not pay off debts, which exposed their lenders and employees.

REFORM PLAN
After the AKP suffered painful election losses in Istanbul and the capital Ankara, Finance Minister Berat Albayrak
The Imperial Son-in-Law (Bow the Knee!)...
last month unveiled the first stage of a reform plan that includes a nearly $5 billion capital injection for state banks saddled with non-performing loans.

While the government is targeting tens of billions of dollars worth of bad loans in the energy and real estate sectors, it has provided few details of the plan.

Many analysts, wary of past reform promises that fell short, have been disappointed that more specific commitments were not made to boost exports in coming years and to emphasize the independence of the central bank to lower inflation from nearly 20 percent.

At a conference in Sarajevo on Wednesday, Cagatay Imirgi, Director-general of the undersecretariat of Turkey’s Treasury, said: "We need more time to show investors that policy is working." Albayrak, Erdogan’s son-in-law, had earlier cancelled a planned conference presentation on rebalancing the economy.

"There is a point where one asks whether Turkey will have continual setbacks like this - there could be other domestic political issues, and there are obviously international issues and many risks there with the US relationship," said Parker of Fitch Ratings.

"Eventually too many of these little setbacks can add up and prove costly," he said. Fitch has a ’negative’ outlook on Turkey’s rating.

Adding to the political uncertainty, the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), whose candidate won the March vote in Istanbul, said on Wednesday it had formally requested the annulment of Erdogan’s presidential mandate and other poll results. It said the flaws Erdogan alleged in the Istanbul poll also occurred in last year’s national elections.

The lira selloff since March comes as the United States threatens to impose sanctions on NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
ally Turkey over its planned purchase of Russian S-400 missile defence systems. The shipment is expected to come just after the June 23 vote.

All of this "could be a perfect storm" for the lira, said Cristian Maggio, head of emerging markets strategy at TD Securities.

The re-run decision "concludes in the worst possible way an electoral saga that lasted for just over a month", he added.

Afghanistan
U.S. is ending a training program for Afghan pilots after almost half went AWOL in America
We had an article recently from the Afghan press on this subject, but this has more detail.
[FighterJetsWorld] A program to train Afghan attack pilots has been ended after the airmen kept going absent without leave, or AWOL, while training in the United States.

More than 40 per cent of the Afghan Air Force students enrolled in the U.S.-based training program to fly the AC-208 Combat Caravan, a light attack combat aircraft, went AWOL, according to a quarterly report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR.

“Those students that did not go AWOL were pulled back to Afghanistan to complete their training: as a result, only one class graduated from the U.S.-based program,” the report says. “The second and third classes will continue and finish their training in Afghanistan.”

The training took place at Fort Worth, Texas, SIGAR told Air Force Times. Northrop Grumman operates a 5,000 square-foot custom-built classroom space located at Meacham Airport in Fort Worth.

“The AC-208 Training Center of Excellence is designed to provide partner nations with instructional classroom activities and initial aircrew and maintenance training on the Northrop Grumman modified AC-208 Eliminator aircraft,” a Northrop Grumman press release reads.

The AC-208 is essentially a Cessna that carries some Hellfire missiles. After the U.S. military withdrew from Iraq in 2011, the Iraq air force used a handful of the aircraft to take potshots at ISIS because it lacked adequate attack helicopters and jet fighters.

Aficionados of U.S. military efforts to train Afghan troops will find this latest revelation familiar. Two Afghan A-29 pilots disappeared in December 2015 while training at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. Before that, three Afghan officers who went missing in Cape Cod were found near Niagara Falls on the Canadian border. One of the officers was later granted asylum.

The first female Afghan pilot was also granted asylum after she continuously received death threats, according to the Wall Street Journal.

However, the phenomenon is neither new nor limited to Afghan Air Force trainees.

Nearly half of all foreign military trainees that went AWOL while training in the United States since 2005 was from Afghanistan (152 of 320),” SIGAR reported in October 2017.

“Of the 152 AWOL Afghan trainees, 83 either fled the United States after going AWOL or remain unaccounted for.”

Steele's stunning pre-FISA confession: Informant needed to air Trump dirt before election
[TheHill] If ever there were an admission that taints the FBI’s secret warrant to surveil Donald Trump’s campaign, it sat buried for more than 2 1/2 years in the files of a high-ranking State Department official.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalec’s written account of her Oct. 11, 2016, meeting with FBI informant Christopher Steele shows the Hillary Clinton campaign-funded British intelligence operative admitted that his research was political and facing an Election Day deadline.

And that confession occurred 10 days before the FBI used Steele’s now-discredited dossier to justify securing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and the campaign’s ties to Russia.

Steele’s client “is keen to see this information come to light prior to November 8,” the date of the 2016 election, Kavalec wrote in a typed summary of her meeting with Steele and Tatyana Duran, a colleague from Steele’s Orbis Security firm. The memos were unearthed a few days ago through open-records litigation by the conservative group Citizens United.

Kavalec’s notes do not appear to have been provided to the House Intelligence Committee during its Russia probe, according to former Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.). "They tried to hide a lot of documents from us during our investigation, and it usually turns out there’s a reason for it," Nunes told me. Senate and House Judiciary investigators told me they did not know about them, even though they investigated Steele’s behavior in 2017-18.

One member of Congress transmitted the memos this week to the Department of Justice’s inspector general, fearing its investigation of FISA abuses may not have had access to them.

Nonetheless, the FBI is doing its best to keep much of Kavalec’s information secret by retroactively claiming it is classified, even though it was originally marked unclassified in 2016.

The apparent effort to hide Kavalec's notes from her contact with Steele has persisted for some time.

State officials acknowledged a year ago they received a copy of the Steele dossier in July 2016, and got a more detailed briefing in October 2016 and referred the information to the FBI.

But what was discussed was not revealed. Sources told me more than a year ago that Kavalec had the most important (and memorialized) interaction with Steele before the FISA warrant was issued, but FBI and State officials refused to discuss it, or even confirm it.

The encounter, and Kavalec’s memos, were forced into public view through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation by Citizens United. Yet, all but a few lines have been redacted after the fact. Officials are citing as the reason national security, in the name of the FBI and a half-century-old intelligence law.

Israeli teen held over Palestinian woman’s death moved to house arrest
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Tel Aviv court has authorized an Israeli teenager held in jail over a Paleostinian woman’s death to be transferred to house arrest pending his trial, the justice ministry said Wednesday.

The 16-year-old, who as a minor cannot be named, is accused of having caused the death of a Paleostinian mother, Aisha al-Rabi, by hurling a heavy rock at the windscreen of her car on October 12 south of Hebron in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

His DNA was found on the rock.

The youth, a pupil of a religious school in the nearby Jewish settlement of Rehalim, has been charged with homicide motivated by hatred of Arabs.

Four fellow pupils were incarcerated

alongside him and questioned at the end of December.

The victim’s husband, Yacoub al-Rabi, condemned the court’s decision to release the charged suspect as emblematic of Israeli double standards.

"If the accused had been a Paleostinian, they would have demolished his home and left his family without a roof over their heads," he told AFP, referring to Israel’s practice of destroying the family home of anti-Israeli assailants.

"I’ve never heard of a Paleostinian minor accused of homicide being sent to his room," he said.

Britain
Rotherham abuse scandal: 40 arrests made in last two months
[Standard] Detectives investigating historic allegations of child sexual abuse and exploitation in Rotherham have enjugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
40 people over the last two months, the National Crime Agency announced today.

They said thirty-eight men and two women are being investigated as part of Operation Stovewood.

Those arrested were aged between 29 and 53, and were from Sheffield, Rotherham, Leeds, Dewsbury and Maidstone.

All have been bailed or released under investigation pending further inquiries.

The offences relate to 13 victims who came forward alleging abuse between 1997 and 2015, when they were aged between 11 and 26.

Carl Vessey-Baitson, from the NCA, said: "Arresting such a large number of individuals, as part of one Stovewood sub-operation, shows our desire to listen to victims and bring offenders to justice is not wavering.

"Stovewood is a challenging and complex investigation, with victims and survivors reliving abuse that took place many years ago.

"To date we have engaged with over 410 victims and survivors and have arrested or interviewed by appointment 94 suspects, meaning this is the largest law enforcement investigation into non-familial CSAE (child sexual abuse and exploitation) ever undertaken in the UK.

"Conducting such an investigation can only be achieved with the support and co-ordination of our partners, and South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council continue to provide invaluable assistance."

The NCA launched Operation Stovewood, at the invitation of South Yorkshire Police, after Professor Alexis Jay's 2014 report into the rape, grooming and trafficking of hundreds of children in Rotherham.

The Jay Report described how more than 1,400 children had been affected, but Operation Stovewood has since identified 1,523 victims.

Towards the end of 2018, the NCA said it had 151 designated suspects, 275 other people under investigation and 296 female survivors of exploitation actively engaging with officers.

The NCA has full control of allegations between 1997 and 2013, with 250 staff and an annual budget that will soon reach £15 million a year.

It is estimated the operation will cost more than £90 million by 2024 - the date to which current planning extends.

#6  You know, I used to think the police in the Python skit "The Piranha Brothers" was a parody. It's rather disheartening to realize that it really does take a "Gangsters nuke Luten Airport" before the police sit up and take notice.

#7  "... this is the largest law enforcement investigation into non-familial CSAE (child sexual abuse and exploitation) ever undertaken in the UK."

The implications of that statement and the wording of it is rather scary.

Parody Joe Biden website shows him repeatedly fondling children, bragging about getting Ukraine to fire prosecutor
Predictably, the Left is claiming this is all a Russian plot and we should ignore it.

This has been known for years. These videos of him fondling children have been up on Youtube for a long time. The media never ran with them because Biden is a Democrat and on their side. In one of them, Jeff Sessions slaps his hand away. They knew.

There were powerful pedophile rings in Europe and the Catholic Church and in Hollywood and in Penn State and in the BBC, but I am an idiot for thinking there's a pedo ring in Washington DC, the power center of the world.

Afghanistan
US will need forces in Afghanistan until no insurgency left, says top General
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United States will need to keep counterterrorism forces in Afghanistan until there is no insurgency left in the country, the top US general said on Wednesday, suggesting a far longer military presence even after more than 17 years of war.

"I think we will need to maintain a counterterrorism presence as long as an insurgency continues in Afghanistan," Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford said during a congressional hearing.

The United States is currently in talks with the Taliban

to seek an end to the nearly 18-year-long conflict.

#2  So, a forever war. Spending trillions, for zero benefit. At least he came out and said it.

Spraying the poppies would make the Taliban lose, 3dc. Trump already tried that and got overruled. Just like when he tried to get us out of that pointless war in Syria.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eater group in the western province of Anbar.

The Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate, in a statement, said that its troops "have arrested a terrorist who fought among the Islamic State’s security apparatus in al-Karma district in Anbar.

The terrorist "was responsible for collecting information about security forces during the military operations to liberate Iraqi territory from Islamic State Death Eaters," the statement read.
