German army halts Iraq military training amid Iran tensions

[IsraelTimes] Berlin says ’no concrete threat’ against its forces in the region, but decision comes after State Department orders non-emergency US embassy staff to leave Baghdad and Erbil.
All tied in with Iranian missiles stationed in Basra.
Things are getting interesting over there, so I’ve stacked the articles in one post for ease of perusal. See also the U.S. State Department is sending home non-essential personnel here.

Netherlands suspends mission in Iraq over security threats
Update at 2:15 p.m. EDT.
Baghdad (IraqiNews) The authorities of Netherlands announced, on Wednesday, suspending its mission in Iraq over security threats.

Dutch news agency ANP reported, today, that the Dutch government has suspended a mission in Iraq that provides assistance to local authorities due to a security threat. It added that the threats are directed toward the Dutch personnel who train Iraqi forces in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan region, along with other foreign troops, including Germany.

Meanwhile, a number of news outlets reported that the German government earlier announced halting its mission in Iraq amid heightening tensions in the region. However, Defense Ministry Media Director Major General Tahseen al-Khafaji said in a brief statement that Germany has not suspended training and is continuing to work with the Ministry of Defense.

According to the Dutch Ministry of Defense website, the Netherlands is contributing to the international fight against the Islamic State group by providing military as well as political and humanitarian support. Dutch military personnel support Iraqi forces on the ground with military training and advice.

Dutch military instructors have already trained a total of over 100,000 members of the Iraqi armed forces and Kurdish armed forces (Peshmerga). Since these forces have achieved the basic level required, the anti-ISIS coalition is now providing a higher level of training.

#6  Iran has ballistic missiles in Iraq (the only Basra City I know about is in Iraq)???

and why would they need ballistic missiles to hit something in the Gulf?

#8  Yeah, this whole story doesn't make sense. As noted above, why would Iran have missiles in Basra (without having invaded already) and why would they need ballistic missiles to hit Gulf targets? Is the writer just ignorant or poorly translated? Neither of those options makes me trust the rest of the info. Is ELINT a reputable news source for these sorts of things? I don't doubt things can go sour in an hour, but there are holes in the reports here.

#9  Plus, the German military is practically bankrupt and the Dutch are busy having a political crisis and probably want to show that "the Middle East is FINE" for those nasty "right wingers" we hear so much about. The slightest increase in tensions would be great excuses for both to pull out now that ISIS is mostly gone.

The F-35 Isn't Just 'Stealthy': Here's How Its Electronic Warfare System Gives It An Edge

#1  If being a Data-Hub and stealthy ELINT / AEW platform is this plane's "thing" then.... *Boggle* Where is the Electronics Warfare Officer that will do these space age stuff while the plane needs to be flown? If this can all be automated out then why not just design a UCAV, an unmanned drone, and fly it remote to do all of these things?
This is really looking like a mismatch of roles and equipment, IMO... Lots of $$$'s to make a plane that does too many things when specialist frames would do it better and cheaper.

Thor actor Isaac Kappy, 42, throws self off an Arizona bridge sans bungies
[MAIL] 'Thor' and 'Terminator: Salvation' actor Isaac Kappy has been confirmed as the man who jumped to his death from a bridge in Arizona on Monday, according to TMZ.

Officials confirmed on Tuesday that Kappy, 42, was struck by a Ford pickup truck after hurling himself from the Transwestern Road bridge onto Interstate 40, where he died, according a statement from Bart Graves, a spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

In the 24 hours leading up to his death, Kappy posted a long statement on Instagram where he wrote, 'I have not been a good guy,' and 'I have been abusive to people who loved me.'

The self-admitted drug user made headlines in 2018 for allegedly assaulting Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris, by choking her 'during a game night party.'

The native Angeleno has also publicly accused Seth Green of being a pedophile.

Iraq
U.S. pulls some government employees from Iraq
[Rooters] Washington ordered the departure of non-emergency babus government employees from Iraq on Wednesday, after repeated U.S. expressions of concern about threats from Iranian-backed forces.

The U.S. State Department has ordered the pullout of the employees from both the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in Erbil, the embassy said in a statement.

"Normal visa services at both posts will be temporarily suspended," it said, recommending those affected depart as soon as possible. It was unclear how many staff would leave.

On Tuesday, the U.S. military reaffirmed concerns about possible imminent threats from Iran to its troops in Iraq, although a senior British commander cast doubt on that and Tehran has called it "psychological warfare."

U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's administration has stepped up sanctions pressure by ending waivers for some countries to purchase Iranian oil - part of efforts to roll back the Islamic Theocratic Republic's expanding regional clout.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said on Tuesday he was getting indications from talks with both the United States and Iran that "things will end well" despite the rhetoric.

Washington has sent additional military forces to the Middle East, including an aircraft carrier, B-52 bombers and Patriot missiles in a show of force against what U.S. officials have said is a threat to its troops and interests in the region.

A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander has said Tehran would retaliate against any aggressive U.S. moves.

A U.S. State Department front man said the decision to withdraw non-emergency staff was based on a security assessment, but would not give details on how many personnel were leaving.

"Ensuring the safety of U.S. government personnel and citizens is our highest priority and we are confident in the Iraqi security services' (ability) to protect us," he said.

"But this threat is serious and we want to reduce the risk of harm."

The Untold Heroism Behind a Marine's Secret Navy Cross from Benghazi
[Mil.com] Minutes after Tate Jolly arrived at the diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, a mortar hit the compound where an ambassador and another American had been killed and dozens more were trapped.

The Marine gunnery sergeant was one of only two U.S. troops with a small task force that rushed to respond to what quickly became clear was a coordinated attack on the U.S. State Department facility.

It was a remarkable mission. The closest military backup was hours away, which later led to fierce debate about how U.S. troops should be postured to protect Americans and diplomatic posts overseas.

"There was no one even remotely close to being able to go and get them in North Africa," a source familiar with the operation planning said. "The nearest airplanes were hours away and the nearest ground troops a day away or further."

The source spoke under the condition of anonymity to talk freely about the Sept. 11, 2012, incident, which remains a topic of controversy in Washington seven years later.

The scene was chaotic when the team arrived, and they quickly tried to restore order. There were nearly 30 panicked people who needed to be evacuated quickly, but the compound was under fire from multiple sides.

"Unfortunately, it was not a whole lot of offense; it was a whole lot of just holding guys off as long as they could to try and get out," the person familiar with the mission said.

Jolly, who declined a request for an interview, would ultimately be awarded the Navy Cross for his heroism there. The soldier with him, Master Sgt. David Halbruner, received the Army's Distinguished Service Cross. The valor awards are exceeded only by the Medal of Honor.

#7  This repot has at least a few inaccuracies;

1 … what quickly became clear was a coordinated attack on the U.S. State Department facility.

The attack in question happened at the CIA facility 3 or 4 kms away. The attack at the DoS facility was long over by the time the D Boys arrived.

2 ….team headed to the consulate to bolster the diplomatic security personnel and GRS…

There was no “Consulate” in Benghazi and they headed to the CIA facility not the DoS facility.

'Arthur' character comes out, FINALLY giving LGBT cartoon rat population representation on kid's TV
[RT] A publicly-funded educational show for children 4-8 about an anthropomorphic aardvark took a turn for the even weirder, when it decided to teach kids the importance of accepting adult male-male inter-species love relationships.

Come on, if there was one thing kids’ TV programming was desperately crying out for, it was a gay cartoon rat getting married, teaching us all a timely lesson about “diversity.”

So, that’s exactly what the season premiere of the Public Broadcasting Service's (PBS) “Arthur” cartoon delivered. The episode featured a surprise wedding between the titular aardvark’s humanoid rat teacher and his male partner who appears to also be an aardvark...as CNN put it, “leaving us all in happy tears.”

Brother of Bourke St attacker pleads guilty to terrorism charge over Federation Square Melbourne gun plot
[ABC.NET.AU] The brother of the killer who stabbed cafe owner Sisto Malaspina on Melbourne's Bourke Street has admitted to trying to buy a gun to prepare for a terrorist attack.

Ali Khalif Shire Ali,
...also known as Ali Ali, the highly connected Somali-Australian known wolf was arrested in the planning stage of a NewYear’s Eve shooting attack in support of ISIS...
22, today appeared in the Supreme Court to plead guilty to making inquiries about gaining access to a firearm and ammunition in preparation for or planning a terrorist attack.

The court heard the attack was planned to take place in Federation Square in late 2017 to "advance the cause of Islam through violence".

Ali was arrested at his home in Werribee during a series of raids by ASIO and other agencies in November 2017.

His case was due to go to trial in front of a jury until he pleaded guilty on Wednesday.
Kind of him to spare the taxpayers the costs of a long trial...
A plea hearing will be held in August.

Suppression orders have previously prevented reporting that Ali was the brother of Hassan Khalif Shire Ali,
...the Somali-born known wolf who also went by Mohamed Khalif and Hassan Shire will never reach his 32nd birthday, saving the taxpayers the expense of both a trial and incarceration...
who was shot dead by police when he drove his car into Bourke St and set fire to gas cylinders before attacking Mr Malaspina.

Hassan Khalif Shire Ali killed 74-year-old Mr Malaspina, who was well known in Melbourne as a co-owner of the iconic Pellegrini's Espresso Bar, and injured others in the Bourke St attack in November last year.

PERSON OF INTEREST
At the time of Ali Khalif Shire Ali's arrest, police said they believed he was trying to get an automatic rifle to "shoot and kill as many people as he could" around Federation Square, in Melbourne's CBD during New Year's Eve celebrations.

Federation Square is one of the most popular spots in Melbourne to bring in the new year.

He had been monitored by police, who said at the time that they made the arrest because he had been having face-to-face meetings about getting a gun.

But police stressed at the time that the man, who was described as being a "high person of interest", never actually managed to obtain a gun.

Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said at the time of the arrest, the result of the plot could have been catastrophic.

"This is a person who's expressed an intention to try and kill as many people as he could through shooting them in the Federation Square area on New Year's Eve. Horrendous," he said.

"If this attack were to have gone ahead, it would have been absolutely catastrophic, but the point is it was stopped."

Police also said at the time that Ali Khalif Shire Ali had accessed documents produced by Al Qaeda, including a "guidebook" on how to commit a terrorist act and how to use firearms.

Newly discovered color images offer a rare glimpse of 1950s America during its boom years
[MAIL] They were called the boom years. A postwar, 1950s America had a flourishing economy, which would give rise to fast-growing families and a generation, as well as the building and expanding of the suburbs.

Baby boomers, those born after the end of World War II in 1946 until 1964, enjoyed the prosperity of the period with more people buying televisions, houses – and the furnishings and appliances to go with the new abodes – and new, sleek cars with tailfins, many of which are considered classics today. Some of the new goods were bought on universal credit cards, introduced at the beginning of the decade.

While Europe worked on rebuilding, the United States started to flex its military might in its bid to stop communism. After the war, tensions between the U.S. and what was then called the Soviet Union began ratcheting up around 1947. On June 25, 1950, American forces were dispatched to the Korean peninsula in support of the South while China and the Soviet Union supported the North. The Korean War ended with an armistice three years later on July 27.

The two superpowers also sparred over who would land on the moon first. The space race heated up during the decade, and the Soviets launched the first artificial satellite called Sputnik in 1957. But the U.S. reached the moon first in 1969.

Rock ‘n’ roll hit the airwaves and the dulcet tones of Dean Martin’s ‘That’s Amore,’ soon were replaced in popularity with Elvis’ ‘All Shook Up,’ and ’Rock Around the Clock,’ by Bill Haley & His Comets. Hit shows, such as ‘I Love Lucy,’ ‘Father Knows Best,’ and ‘Leave It to Beaver’ were watched on America’s black-and-white TVs.

Newly discovered images provide a colorful view of the country from coast to coast. The photos, like the one above taken in 1952 in Michigan, are part a recently launched website called the Lost Colour Library.

Nebraska farmer amputates his own leg with a pocket knife after it got caught in machinery and then crawled 150 feet to call 911
[MAIL] A farmer in Nebraska amputated his own leg with a pocket knife after it became caught in a corn hopper.

Kurt Kaser, 63, became stuck in the machine at his farm in Pender. Nobody else was home, or due back for several hours, and the hopper began to pull him further inside.

After trying and failing to free himself, he decided to chop off his leg - spending about five minutes sawing away at his own flesh, reports NBC News.

Following the DIY surgery, Kaser crawled 150 foot to his house to call 911 before being taken to hospital.

Speaking of his traumatic ordeal, Kaser said: 'I did what I thought I had to do, and it worked.'

#4  I give you ... Jean-Pierre Hallet. He studied the pygmies, who I read about as a kid in his autobiographical work Congo Kitabu. As related in Badass of the Week(language warning):
Hallet had been fishing at the lake for a while in an effort to help provide much-needed food to a starving local tribe that had been hit hard by a nasty drought, when suddenly a double-stick of TNT f**ng blew off his right arm at the elbow, disintegrated his boat, and dumped him in croc-infested waters. Losing blood by the pint and surrounded by man-eating creatures well known for their propensity to sense such substances when they are present in the water, Hallet somehow swam all the way back to shore, walked a mile through the f**ng Congo to get back to his truck, and fashioned a makeshift tourniquet using just his teeth and his off-hand. But the danger still wasn't over – Hallet was still high in the mountains and the park gates were closing soon, so this guy friggin' floored it and hauled ass 200 miles down a narrow, unpaved mountain road, steering with one arm and holding onto consciousness despite losing blood from dozens of shrapnel wounds. He survived, made it to the nearest hospital, lived through surgery, and would eventually be fitted for a prosthetic Luke Skywalker-style replacement (though apparently decided that was "for pussies" and never wore

Homeless encampments along Sacramento rivers are damaging flood levees and putting more than 100,000 houses at risk, officials warn
[MAIL] Homeless encampments along the Sacramento river are damaging flood levees and could be putting more than 100,000 houses in danger, it has been revealed.

Some of the homeless have been digging into the slope of the levees to create a flat surface for their tents, potentially compromising the entire structure.

And, due to the number of tents, levee monitors are having a hard time finding the trouble spots that need fixing before the winter flood season.

In one instance, they discovered a large encampment had been hiding a four-foot deep trench that was dug into the slope of a levy.

South Carolina declares statewide hepatitis A outbreak amid 400% increase in cases
[MAIL] South Carolina has declared a statewide hepatitis outbreak after cases surged four-fold.

Hepatitis A has seen a resurgence in recent years across the US. Between 2016 and 2018, there were 300 percent more cases than there had been in the previous three year period, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported last week.

In South Carolina, what began as a single county outbreak has spread to 19 jurisdictions, leading to 59 hospitalizations and even killing one person.

South Carolina is not, in fact, among the nine US states that have seen hepatitis A increases of 500 percent or more - but it does have one of the highest rates of opioid prescriptions of any US states.

And health officials blame the rise in hepatitis A on the opioid epidemic, which has fueled both dangerous needle sharing and homelessness.

Explosive materials, detonator seized from home in Toronto
[CP24] A father and son from Richmond Hill are in police custody after York Regional Police say they seized explosives along with a detonator from their home last Friday.

York Regional Police say that on May 9, they were made aware of a suspect being investigated by both the U.S. Customs and Border Protection service and the Canadian Border Services Agency.

The next day, officers executed a search warrant on a home in the Larratt Lane area, near Canyon Hill Avenue and Bathurst Street.

An unspecified quantity of explosives and a detonator were removed by OPP and York Region officers.

On Monday evening, two men were arrested and charged with one count each of possession of an explosive device.

They were identified as Mahyar Mohammadiasl, 18, and Reza Mohammadiasl, 47.

The investigation is ongoing.

Both men are expected to appear in court in Newmarket on Tuesday.

Federal Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale told CTV News Tuesday that there "is no national security issue" regarding the arrests and the discovery of explosives in the home.

#9  As CCTV cameras proliferate in public spaces so will facial recognition systems.

With any kind of automated detection or testing, accuracy and interpretation will be an on-going problem. Did our early warning radar just pick up a massive ballistic missile launch or is it just a flock of birds? Does this DNA sample match one from the crime scene?

Facial recognition systems work by comparing features shared by two images and outputting a probability that they are the same. That probability gets turned into Yes/No depending on how you set the dial. But underneath, it's a probability.

Humans are notoriously bad at dealing with probability. If the odds of winning the lottery were 75%, we'd rush to buy a ticket. And be totally stunned if we lost. But 75% means 25 times out of a hundred you lose.

If you cloak probability in the mantle of authority, it's hard to resist an expert witness claim in court that there is a 75% chance this guy is the perp. But remember that 25 times out of a 100 thing? As I understand, the Chinese are going all in with facial recognition as part of their Social Credit system. That should tell you something about the uses and abuses of the technology.

Closet Dem Romney votes against Pres. Trump's pick over comments attacking Obama
[The Hill] Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) voted against one of President Trump’s judicial picks Tuesday over past controversial comments the judge made about former President Obama.

Romney, who faced off against Obama in the 2012 presidential race, cast the lone GOP no vote against Judge Michael Truncale, who was ultimately confirmed to the Eastern District of Texas by a 49-46 margin.

Truncale raised eyebrows in 2011 when he called Obama an "un-American imposter."

He later told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he was "merely expressing frustration by what I perceived as a lack of overt patriotism on behalf of President Obama," adding that he did not subscribe to "birtherism."

However, Romney found enough fault with the original remark to vote against Truncale’s nomination.

"He made particularly disparaging comments about President Obama. And as the Republican nominee for president, I just couldn't subscribe to that in a federal judge," Romney told Politico in a brief interview.

"This was not a matter of qualifications or politics. This was something specifically to that issue as a former nominee of our party," he added.

Romney has emerged as one of the few GOP critics of Trump, often hitting the president over his rhetoric. He most recently bucked the White House by opposing its plans to nominate Herman Cain to the Federal Reserve Board.

Though he votes in line with the president more often than not, he is more likely to oppose the White House than most other Republican senators, according to a tally compiled by FiveThirtyEight.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Valerie Plame: Surveillance on Trump campaign not 'spying' [video]
[The Hill] Former CIA operative and current congressional candidate Valerie Plame said Monday that FBI surveillance of President Trump's 2016 campaign was not spying.

"I absolutely do not [believe spying occurred]. These are professionals in our intelligence community, both in the Federal Bureau of Investigation and in the CIA. I have to believe that what happened was that there was real cause. And the bar is extremely high to collect information, particularly on a U.S. citizen," Plame, a Democrat running for a House seat in New Mexico, said on CNN's "New Day."

During congressional testimony last month, Attorney General William Barr called the FBI’s surveillance of members of Trump's 2016 campaign "spying." Trump has also used the term.

The Justice Department's inspector general is now reviewing whether the FBI followed correct procedures in applying for a warrant to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
Republicans have said the FBI improperly relied on details from the dossier compiled by ex-British intelligence agent Christopher Steele when applying for the warrant.

"So I don't know all the details of what led to that, but I think Attorney General Barr's rather casual assessment that the FBI spied on candidate Trump is a little too loose with the facts," she continued.

Fairly extensive BIO on Plame found at this link.

US losing control of its border in New Mexico...and cartels are happy
[American Thinker] We often describe the specter of tens of thousands of unvetted migrants rolling into our country in terms of "losing control of the border," but a new piece by Daniel Horowitz describes what's going on at the New Mexico border near El Paso as something just a bit more literal.

Writing for Conservative Review, Horowitz found:
Our elected officials in Washington appear to "happy" as well. They must be, they're doing very little about the escalating problem.

Trey Gowdy says John Brennan in more dossier peril than James Comey
[Washington Examiner] Trey Gowdy said on Tuesday that former CIA Director John Brennan is in more jeopardy than former FBI Director James Comey for the use of an unverified dossier for the Trump-Russia investigation.

During an interview on Fox News, the former Republican congressman from South Carolina discussed a document he saw as a leading GOP investigator before his retirement from Congress.

"I think that it's one more place for Mr. Durham to start," Gowdy said, referring to U.S. Attorney John Durham, who has been tasked by Attorney General William Barr to look into the origins of the Russia investigation.

"That's a pretty easy thing to sort out, who insisted that the dossier or the unverified material from Chris Steele be included," he said. "But ... sometimes when you have two people, I can tell from you having been in the courtroom, sometimes when people are blaming each other, they are both right. It's both of them. And I think it's interesting Brennan and Comey right now, the only thing they seem to share is a hatred for Donald Trump. It's going to be interesting if they begin to turn on one another. I've seen the document. I'm not going to describe it any more than that, Comey's got a better argument than Brennan based on what I have seen."

His interview Tuesday follows a Fox News appearance on Monday in which he encouraged investigators to track down emails between Brennan and Comey in December 2016.

Host Martha MacCallum, who conducted the Tuesday interview with Gowdy, said Fox News is reporting that those emails show Brennan discussing with Comey the use of the unverified dossier in the U.S. intelligence community's assessment on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

a day after a priest and five parishioners were murdered at mass, church officials said Tuesday.

The parade with a statue of the Virgin Mary was moving through the town of Ouahigouya on Monday when "a group of Death Eaters intercepted the procession, killing four worshippers and burning the statue," said a front man for the Ouagadougou Cathedral.

According to the Burkina Faso news agency AIB, the assailants stopped the procession. "They let the minors go, executed four adults, and destroyed the statue," it quoted a local person as saying.

Paul Ouedraogo, president of the Episcopal Conference of Burkina Faso and Niger, told a meeting of bishops in the capital Ouagadougou the attack had claimed four lives.

The killings came a day after a group of 20-30 gunnies, according to witnesses, burst into the Catholic church in Dablo, also in the Nord Region of Burkina Faso, shooting dead five parishioners and their priest.

The attackers set fire to the church, several shops and a small cafe before heading to the health centre, which they looted, burning the chief nurse's vehicle.

"The two snuffies were wanted by the Iraqi judiciary for getting into fights against our security forces during the military operations to liberate Iraqi lands from the Islamic State group," the statement read.

Intensified clashes between Turkish troops, PKK claim lives from both sides
[Rudaw] Recent festivities between Ottoman Turkish security forces and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have resulted in the death of at least two soldiers and injury of three village guards from Ottoman Turkish side and at least two from the PKK.

"Sgt. Zekeriya Zencirli, an infantry expert, was martyred on May 14 following an attack by terrorists," read a statement from the Ottoman Turkish Defense Ministry on Tuesday, without disclosing where he was killed.

Ottoman Turkish media later reported that he was killed during a skirmish with the PKK in the far southeast of the country near the border with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Italy: NGO Migrant trafficking Ferry Seized After Violating Salvini Blockade
[Breitbart] The NGO migrant ferry Mare Jonio has been seized by the Italian authorities after attempting to circumvent the blockade against migrant transportation put in place by Matteo Salvini.

Members of the crew of the ship have been accused by the authorities of aiding illegal migration after the vessel was able to covertly dock at a port in Lampedusa on Friday, according to a report from Italian newspaper Il Giornale.

Only a day prior, the ship had collected 30 migrants off the coast of Libya in the Search and Rescue (SAR) zone who were on a rubber boat.

At around dawn Friday morning, members of the Guardia di Finanza, military police under the jurisdiction of the Ministry for Economy and Finance, boarded the vessel to search for “irregularities” which, according to Il Giornale, they found. The ship was subsequently confiscated.

Mediterranea Saving Humans, the NGO behind the Mare Jonio, said they were surprised by the announcement, claiming that no irregularities had been found and that they were looking at pursuing kidnapping charges against the government.

This is not the first time the NGO has run into legal trouble. Last month it was announced that the head of the NGO, Luca Casarini, and Pietro Marrone, who commands the Mare Jonio, were being investigated for aiding people trafficking and illegal migration.

Europe
New EU Declaration Mandates Europe ‘Empower’ Children to Help Set Policy Agendas
[BREITBART] EU nations must “empower” children to participate in “decision-making and policy development” at national and European level, according to a declaration adopted by the bloc this week.
Children, by definition, aren't capable of making adult decisions. Seemingly neither are EU officials.
The Bucharest EU Children’s Declaration and Experts’ Supporting Document was adopted at the first ever ‘Children’s Summit’ in order to “guide European leaders” in putting “structured mechanisms” in place to ensure that young minors’ alleged “right” to influence public policy is respected, Brussels-based media reports.

At the event in Romania, whose national government has just taken over the EU rotating presidency, government officials and NGOs stressed that boosting the participation of children in political decision-making was vital to building a “stronger” European Union.

Asserting that participation in decision-making “is one of the fundamental children’s rights”, Romanian Minister of Labour and Social Justice, Marius Budăi, said that he hopes the declaration “will lay out the foundation of a mechanism through which children’s opinion becomes a constant component of decision-making processes at EU level”.

Drafted by a group of children together with so-called ‘human rights experts’, the document puts forward several arguments for why under-18s must “have a say” in policymaking including that “we are a significant part of Europe’s population and we are writing our own story through marches, vocalization, and representation”.

“We are demanding that our voices be listened and considered and we are offering our commitment to participate in good faith, to build the future EU together with you,” the declaration says, adding that “in order to be that future” lawmakers must involve children in taking part of policymaking “as early as possible” and that under-18s “must be looked upon as a resource, not only as an investment”.

Clarence Thomas blasts Stephen Breyer as death penalty divides Supreme Court
[AMP.WASHINGTONTIMES] Justice Clarence Thomas wanted to make sure there was no doubt about the heinous crime of Christopher Lee Price, whose attack on an Alabama minister nearly scalped the man, leaving him to a slow and painful death.

In an opinion Monday, Justice Thomas defended the Supreme Court’s decision to approve Price’s execution and blasted fellow Justice Stephen G. Breyer, who had tried to erect roadblocks on the path to the execution chamber last month.

It was the latest skirmish over the death penalty
, which during an otherwise hum-drum year for the high court has emerged as a surprising source of division for the justices, some of whom have signaled deep skepticism of continued use of the extreme penalty.

Left without a broad case to deliver an outright ban, they instead have settled for trying to chip away at how and when the states can carry out the death penalty.

"There appears to be four votes to find the death penalty unconstitutional, if not as a matter of doctrine then as a matter of practice," said Ilya Shapiro, a legal scholar at the libertarian Cato Institute.

The divide is playing out in key cases about how and when it can be administered and what accommodations a state owes to someone who is about to die.

Woman beaten to death with electric scooter in California: cops
Probably not the grocery store kind...
[NYPOST] A Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, woman was beaten to death with an electric scooter during an apparent random attack in broad daylight, police said.

Rosa Elena Hernandez, 63, of Long Beach was assaulted by a hoodie-wearing man while she was in the area around 12:30 p.m. Monday, the Long Beach Police Department said.

Detectives believe the suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, physically attacked the victim and then used a rental Bird brand e-scooter "as a weapon during the assault" before fleeing, according to cops and the Los Angeles Times.

It’s believed that the victim and the suspect did not know each other, the news outlet reported.

When police arrived at the scene of the gruesome attack, they found a bludgeoned Hernandez with injuries to her upper torso. She died at the scene.

Within four hours of the violent incident, detectives tracked down a person of interest at a local business and took him into custody, police said.

The man, who wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and red shoes, was later booked for murder and was being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to cops.

Police will not release the suspect’s name until records can confirm his identity, authorities said.

Neighbors said Hernandez was a married and friendly woman.

"It’s sad because I feel for her husband," neighbor Veronica Morales told NBC Los Angeles, adding that "they’ve been together and lived next door for a very long time. He’s not going to have his wife anymore."

23 people arrested after anti-Muslim mobs slaughter man in Sri Lanka

... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
23 people on Tuesday in connection with a spate of attacks on Moslem-owned homes and shops in apparent reprisal for the Easter bombings that killed more than 250 people.

Soldiers in armoured vehicles patrolled the towns hit by sectarian violence this week as residents recalled how Moslems had hid in paddy fields to escape mobs carrying rods and swords, incensed over the murderous Moslem attacks.

, targeted churches and hotels, mostly in Colombo, killing more than 250 people and fuelling fears of a backlash against the island nation's minority Moslems.

Mobs moved through towns in Sri Lanka's northwest on cycle of violences and in buses, ransacking mosques, burning copies of the Holy Koran and attacking shops with petrol bombs in rioting that began on Sunday, Moslem residents said.

Police said they arrested 23 people from across the island for inciting violence against Moslems, who make up less than 10 per cent of Sri Lanka's 22 million people who are predominantly Sinhalese Buddhists.

Police front man Ruwan Gunasekera said the situation is under control and no new incidents had been reported on Tuesday.

But a nationwide curfew from 9pm to 4am (local times) would be in effect for a second night.

The lone fatality of the riots was a man killed while trying to protect his home from attack.

When mobs arrived in the Kottramulla area on Monday evening, Mohammed Salim Fowzul Ameer, 49, went outside while his wife, Fatima Jiffriya, stayed with their four children.

Jiffriya, 37, then heard shouts and sounds of fighting.

"I opened the door to see my husband on the ground in a pool of blood, the police right in front and the mob running," she said.

"His heart was still beating hard, I took him into my lap and started to scream for help," she added, her voice breaking, as women consoled her children at an uncle's house ahead of Ameer's burial.

ICE Breaks up Massive Marriage Fraud Scheme, Charges Nearly 100 People
[EpochTimes] Nearly 100 people have been indicted, including an attorney, for participating in a massive marriage fraud ring in Houston, Texas, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The federal agency said the grand jury returned an indictment on April 30 with 206 counts, charging 96 people. So far, 50 people are in custody, according to the agency.

According to the indictment, the scam involves creating sham marriages to help foreign people to attain immigration status and admission into the United States. The main purpose of the scam was to circumvent U.S. immigration laws.

According to the statement, marriage fraud, or conspiracy to commit marriage fraud, has a maximum sentence of five years.

The indictment accused 53-year-old Ashley Yen Nguyen, also known as Duyen, of running the organization based in southwest Houston. She allegedly also had associates around Texas and in Vietnam.

Prosecutors say the marriages were shams because the alleged couples did not live together, nor did they have any plan to do so, even though their statements and official documents indicated that they did. Moreover, in some cases, these “spouses” had only met briefly and usually just before obtaining their marriage license. In other cases, they never met at all.

To make a wedding appear real, the organization created fake wedding albums and photos, along with false tax, utility, and employment information so as to not raise suspicion from USCIS and ensure the immigration forms were approved, prosecutors alleged.

As part of the agreement, Nguyen allegedly received $50,000 to $70,000 from the “beneficiary spouse” for helping them to obtain a full lawful permanent resident status, according to the statement. Additionally, she would be allegedly paid more for extra immigration benefits the “spouse” would receive.

A second person, Trang Le Nguyen, also known as Nguyen Le Thien Trang, 45, an attorney in Texas, was also indicted in the case. She had been charged with “obstructing and impeding the due administration of justice and tampering with a witness, victim, or informant.”

Nguyen also allegedly recruited other U.S. citizens to act as petitioners in sham marriages. These people would receive a part of the money paid by the “beneficiary spouse.” Some of these people would go off and become recruiters for the organization, the statement said.

Prosecutors say some of the other people who were charged were allegedly responsible for collecting money for the “beneficiary spouse” and distributing the payments to the petitioners.

“These arrests mark the culmination of a comprehensive yearlong multi-agency investigation into one of the largest alleged marriage fraud conspiracies ever documented in the Houston area,” said Special Agent in Charge Mark Dawson, from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Houston.

According to the indictment, criminal charges include 47 counts of marriage fraud, 50 counts of mail fraud; 51 counts of immigration fraud; 51 counts of false statements under oath in a matter relating to registry of aliens; and one count each of conspiracy to engage in marriage fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, conspiracy to commit immigration fraud, conspiracy to make false statements under oath in a matter relating to registry of aliens, unlawful procurement of naturalization, obstructing and impeding the due administration of justice, and tampering with a witness, victim or informant.

If convicted of mail fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, and tampering with a witness, victim or informant, defendants face up to a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran's nuclear standoff has left it in a bind
[Ynet] Tehran's 60-day ultimatum to Europe, China and Russia to renegotiate the 2015 agreement brokered by Obama and rejected by Trump could leave the Islamic Theocratic Republic with no option but to go cap in hand to the Americans, unless the ayatollahs are playing a more dangerous game

Iran’s leaders don’t have suicidal tendencies. Their every move is calculated, with cost-benefit considerations in mind. Thus, the latest crisis which saw US military move Patriot missile batteries to the Mideast - fearing an Iranian attack - will probably result in some type of negotiations between the two sides.

In the Western world, however, no one understands exactly what’s going on inside the heads of the ayatollahs and to where this will escalate.

ISIS burns crop fields in Makhmour after farmers refuse to pay tax
[Rudaw] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) cells hiding out in the Qarachogh Mountains of Makhmour have torched several local crop fields in recent days after farmers refused to pay the turbans taxes. Farmers say they could be forced to leave if security does not improve.

"ISIS set our fields on fire today and the fire hasn't been brought under control yet," Ismael Sadiq Siyan, whose family owns land in Ali Rash village at the base of Mount Qarachogh, told Rudaw.

ISIS hard boys, keen to recuperate their strength following their territorial defeat in 2017, have now set their sights on the spring harvest of 27 villages on both sides of the Qarachogh Mountains.

"ISIS wants to take taxes and combine harvesters from the people, taxes that they call Zakat," Halgurd Khidir, a Peshmerga commander on the Qarachogh front line, told Rudaw, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

"They have asked for 15 percent from the people. They have asked for $4,000 for each combine harvester working in the fields."

Khidir said the Peshmerga stationed on the mountains have seen an increase in ISIS movements since last month.

"We see them down there in broad daylight," he said.

ISIS appears to be using the same tactic of scorching farms elsewhere in Iraq. The group’s Amaq propaganda outlet announced on Tuesday that turbans had set fire to a farm in Diyala province. "A farm belonging to Riyadh Tami to the south of Bahriz in Diyala province was burnt. He is a commander in Tribal Hashd," read the statement.

One resident of Girda Shin in the Makhmour area, who wished to remain anonymous, told Rudaw ISIS turbans had entered their village two days earlier.

More than once the turbans have painted the words "Islamic State is here to stay" on the walls of houses around the village, they said. The villagers have since removed the graffiti.

"As partisans, whatever they intend to do they do in the night and then return to their places. At night, they say that whoever considers himself a man should dare come outside," the resident added.

Peshmerga commanders in the Qarachogh Mountains confirmed crops have been burned. ISIS also set fire to a number of fields near Ali Rash on Tuesday, they added.

A local source, who also asked to remain anonymous, confirmed to Rudaw that fields were burned in villages near Ali Rash on Sunday.

"Much fear and panic is spread among the people," the local source said.

If the security situation does not improve, the Kurdish areas of Makhmour could be emptied, the source warned.

"A friend of mine who is a farmer is saying he will leave Makhmour after Eid," the source claimed.

"If you go outside Makhmour a little bit you can see the fires."

The resident of Girda Shin also said they intend to leave due to the threats.

"If you don't have any security or safety here, how can you remain here? Your family cannot take it anymore if shooting starts at night," the resident added.

ISIS has become more brazen in Makhmour in recent months, routinely interacting with locals out hunting for desert truffles in the Qarachogh Mountains.

UN mission urges financial isolation of Myanmar’s military over human rights abuses
[DAWN] An international fact-finding mission is urging that countries cut off all business with Myanmar's military as part of efforts to hold the army accountable for human rights

abuses.

The UN Human Rights Council said in a statement on Tuesday that there has been no progress toward resolving the crisis over Myanmar's mostly Moslem Rohingya minority, more than 1 million of whom have fled military "clearance operations" in the northwest Rakhine region.

The statement issued in Geneva said the situation was at a standstill.

Myanmar authorities have razed deserted Rohingya villages and those remaining in the country live in displacement camps and in fear.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia claims oil pipeline was attacked by drones
[NYPOST] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
said drones attacked one of its oil pipelines as other assaults targeted energy infrastructure elsewhere in the kingdom Tuesday, shortly after Yemen’s rebels claimed a coordinated drone attack on the Sunni power.

The assaults marked the latest incidents challenging Mideast security after the alleged sabotage of oil tankers off the coast of the United Arab Emirates earlier this week amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran.

In a statement carried on the state-run Saudi Press Agency, Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said drones attacked a petroleum pumping station supplying a pipeline running from its oil-rich Eastern Province to the Yanbu Port on the Red Sea.

A fire broke out and firefighters brought it under control, though the state-run Saudi Aramco stopped pumping oil through the pipeline.

The kingdom’s state security body also said two oil infrastructure sites in the greater region of Riyadh, home to its landlocked capital, were targeted at the same time. The statement described it as a "limited targeting" of petroleum stations in the al-Dudami and Afif areas in the Riyadh region, without elaborating.

This comes after four oil tankers anchored in the Mideast were damaged by what Gulf officials described as sabotage, though satellite images obtained by the News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Tuesday showed no major damage to the vessels.

Details of the alleged sabotage to two Saudi, one Norwegian and one Emirati oil tanker Sunday remained unclear, and Gulf officials have declined to say who they suspected was responsible. But it demonstrated the raised risks for shippers in a region vital to global energy supplies as tensions are increasing between the US and Iran over its unraveling nuclear deal with world powers.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Qatar pledges to continue paying Gazan poor for six months
[IsraelTimes] Envoy Mohammed al-Emadi says if recent escalation between Israel and terror groups had continued for a few more hours, the world would have ’witnessed humanitarian catastrophes’.

Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
will continue to provide small grants to impoverished Paleostinian families in the Gazoo Strip over the coming six months, a Qatari diplomat said Tuesday evening.

In the past nine months, Doha has made $100 payouts to needy families in the coastal enclave on a number of occasions.

The Qatari envoy said the funds for the needy families will come from the $180 million the Gulf state pledged to send to the Strip last week, which he said "will directly serve Gazoo." However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
he did not say how frequently Doha intends to provide small grants to impoverished families in the next six months or how large they would be.

Over the past two days, under the supervision of the Qatari Gazoo Reconstruction Committee, postal banks in the Strip have handed out $100 bills to tens of thousands of poor families.

Emadi suggested that Doha does not intend to cover the salaries of the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede,-appointed civil servants in the coming days.

"We will discuss these salaries later on," he said, adding that he thinks Hamas authorities will not "have a problem covering the salaries" themselves after Qatar pays out the funds it has pledged to do so for fuel and other humanitarian projects.

In late 2018, Qatar paid out $10 million on two occasions to cover the salaries of most of the Hamas-appointed civil servants. Israel’s government was harshly criticized at home for allowing the money to go to Hamas.

POWER AND A FIELD HOSPITAL
The Qatari diplomat said that Doha would also use the $180 million it allocated to Gazoo to continue to pay for fuel to power the Strip’s sole power plant until the end of 2019.

Since October 2018, Israel has also allowed for Qatari-purchased fuel to enter Gazoo to run the power plant, significantly increasing the hours of electricity many Paleostinian families in the territory receive daily.

Emadi said Qatar would also put aside $50-60 million of the $180 million to support a 161 kilo-volt power line, which the Quartet ‐ the US, Russia, UN and EU ‐ has said could eventually provide an additional 100 megawatt hours of electricity to Gazoo.

Gazoo currently receives some 190 megawatt hours of power, even though its average demand ranges between 500-550 megawatt hours.

Part of the 161 kV power infrastructure has been built, but significant work needs to be completed before the Israel Electric Corporation can start to feed electricity through it from the Jewish state to Gazoo, Mohammed Thabet, a front man for the Gazoo Electric Distribution Company, said in a phone call.

The Qatari envoy added that the funds Qatar pledged to send to Gazoo last week would also support United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
-supervised cash-for-work programs.

A number of Paleostinians in Gazoo recently started temporary jobs as a part of the cash-for-work programs.

Emadi noted that Qatar, in coordination with what he called "the American institution for humanitarianism," would start work on building a field hospital on 40 dunams (10 acres) in northern Gaz

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Anthony Weiner released from Bronx halfway house
[NYPOST] Anthony Carlos Danger Weiner
...aka Hot Dog Tony, the remarkably offensive sex maniac six-term New York congressman who resigned in 2011, then decided everybody had forgotten by 2013, when he decided to run for mayor of New York City...
wrapped up the last leg of his prison sentence for sexting an underage girl on Tuesday morning, walking out of a Bronx halfway house a free man.

"It’s good to be out," the disgraced former congressman said. "I hope to be able to live a life of integrity and service. I’m glad this chapter of my life is behind me."

Weiner, who will still be registered as a Level 1 sex offender, had called the halfway house on Creston Avenue home for three months following his transfer from a Massachusetts lockup as part of a federal re-entry program.

He walked out shortly after 6 a.m. wearing khaki pants, red Nike running shoes and a sweater. His release came early after getting three months shaved off for good behavior.

The Post revealed last month how he is now hoping to land a book deal.

After sinking his political career in a series of salacious sexting scandals with adult women, the married ex-pol was busted in 2017 for sending obscene messages to a 15-year-old North Carolina high schooler.

North Korea calls US ship seizure a ‘robbery,’ demands its return
[NYPOST] North Korea said Tuesday the seizure of one of its cargo ships by the US for violating sanctions was a "robbery" that violated the "fundamental spirit" of a pact made by President Trump and Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
last year.

The North Korean foreign ministry said in a statement that it rejected the UN security resolutions against their country, which the US used as reasoning to take control of the ship, and demanded a return of the vessel.
Trade for The Pueblo, assholes
"The U.N. Security Council resolutions the United States mentioned as one of the reasons for robbing our trade vessel equate to a violent infringement of the illusory sovereignty of our country and we have been entirely rejecting them," the KCNA statement said. "The United States should carefully consider what kind of consequences their daylight robbery could bring to the political situation and should send back our vessel without hesitation."

The US announced last week that it had seized the ship and accused the North Koreans of using it to deliver illegal coal reserves to the country, violating sanctions.

The ship, called the Wise Honest, was detained by Indonesia in April 2018. The Trump administration announced that it would seize the ship hours after North Korea fired short-range missiles Thursday.

The ship was taken to a port in American Samoa because of "its central strategic location," the US Coast Guard said.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Mark Steyn: The Deep State Goes Dangling
[Mark Steyn] On this second anniversary of The Mark Steyn Club, we're proud to present the first of a special two-part edition of The Mark Steyn Show in which I talk with George Papadopoulos, the first Trump campaign member to plead "guilty" in the Mueller investigation. I've seen plenty of three-minute telly hits with Mr Papadopoulos and always wanted to know more, so I figured, after a year or more of waiting, that I might as well interview him myself.

There were two reasons I was intrigued - first of all, because (as I've written before) young Papadopoulos seemed to me to be obviously the "mark" of multiple high-level well-connected figures from America, Britain, Italy, Australia and elsewhere, but also because several of those persons such as Boris Johnson and Alexander Downer were known to me personally. George Papadopoulos has now set down his account of what happened these last four years of his life in a new book called Deep State Target, which I highly recommend. And just within the last twenty-four hours the Attorney-General has appointed a prosecutor, John Durham, to investigate the origins of the FBI's "Crossfire Hurricane" - the "counter-intelligence" operation that targeted Papadopoulos and other Trump campaign staffers.

That's quite something: the cabinet officer to whom the FBI is politically accountable needs a special investigation to figure out what a subsidiary of his department was up to during the last election campaign. There is much more to come out.

So we begin where George's story begins - with a young Beltway think-tank wonk watching an unlikely presidential candidate descend an elevator in a Fifth Avenue skyscraper. Click below to watch:

Europe
U.S. to German social democrats: Don't host Iran Holocaust denial entity
[Jpost] The US ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, urged the German Social Democratic Party’s think tank on Monday to not stage an Iran nuclear deal conference with an institute that hosted the Holocaust denial conference in 2006.

Grenell wrote to The Jerusalem Post by email: “IPIS [Institute for Political and International Studies], the Iranian MFA think tank, hosted a Holocaust denial conference in 2006. Both Germany and the United States condemned the event. Nobody from this group should be given a platform.”

An Ebert Foundation event spokeswoman confirmed to the Post via telephone that the foundation’s conference with the Holocaust denial institute will take place on Tuesday in Berlin.

SDP’s think tank Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) is reeling from anti-Israel scandals, including disinviting the distinguished Israeli writer Chaim Noll from a talk in April because he criticized the pro-Iranian regime policies of the Social Democrats and their Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

The Ebert Foundation invited Saeed Khatibzadeh, who represents the Institute for Political and International Studies – the think tank of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, which organized the 2006 Holocaust denial conference in Tehran. The event – “The International Conference on Review of the Holocaust: Global Vision” – featured a who’s who of global and Iranian Holocaust deniers.

The Ebert conference will also host Hassan Ahmadian, who defended massacres carried out by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Shi’ite militias in Syria, as “forward deterrence” against the Jewish state. The United States classifies the IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization.

In a statement to the Post, SDP general secretary Andrea Nahles defended the controversial event.

“It’s about international political issues and Iran’s relationship with the international community,” she said. “Therefore, we have invited experts from the science and think tank sectors, including those who are close to relevant decision-making in Iran. Mr. Saeed Khatibzadeh is an expert on nuclear issues; in this capacity he was invited for the panel discussion. In 2006, he worked at the Iranian Embassy in Canada and was not involved in organizing the so-called ‘Holocaust Conference.’”

Ebert representatives claim the Holocaust denial institute reformed itself. The organization maintains its same name.

[DAWN] The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad in response to reports of fake marriages, forced prostitution and organ trade has withheld 90 visas of "Pak brides" and launched an investigation into 142 cross-border marriages that took place in 2018, said Lijian Zhao, deputy chief of mission at Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, in an interview with UrduNews.

The interview, published on Tuesday, was conducted in the backdrop of a crackdown against suspected Chinese nationals of their involvement in alleged fake marriages. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has over the past fortnight placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
scores of Chinese nationals and their suspected local abettors from various parts of the country in connection with its investigation into a transnational gang allegedly involved in contracting fake marriages between Chinese men and Pak women, who are later forced into prostitution and the illegal organ trade.

"Last year, about 142 Pak women applied for wedding visas after marrying Chinese nationals while this year, so far, 140 Pak brides have applied for such visas, " the envoy said, indicating a drastic increase this year. The embassy has withheld at least 90 visa applications and alerted the Pak authorities.

Talking about recent reports of abuse, the diplomat denied media reports about Pak women being subjected to forced prostitution and organ sale in China.

US police launch bid to evict pro-Maduro activists from Venezuela embassy
[DAWN] US police on Monday launched a bid to evict Americans who have been occupying the Venezuelan embassy in Washington for weeks in protest against opposition leader Juan Guaido.

As Christians Are Persecuted at Near Genocide Levels, Pope Wishes Muslims a Happy Ramadan
[BigLeaguePolitics] The Pope continues to ignore the plight of Christians worldwide.

Despite the fact that Christians are being prosecuted at levels approaching genocide a fact that has been recognized by Western governments. Pope Francis wished Muslims a "fruitful celebration of Ramadan" in a recent press release.

When Ramadan, the most sacred time of year for Islam, began on May 5, the Pope said

Dear Muslim Brothers and Sisters,

The month of Ramadan with its dedication to fasting, prayer and almsgiving, is also a month for strengthening the spiritual bonds we share in Muslim-Christian friendship. I am pleased, therefore, to take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful and fruitful celebration of Ramadan.

Muslims wished Christians a happy Easter by blowing themselves up inside Sri Lankan Christian churches, killing more than 250 people. Pope Francis denounced the attacks, but has utterly refused to recognize the plight of Christians around the world, particularly in the Middle East. Christians are now the most persecuted religious group on earth.

Sri Lanka Province under Indefinite Curfew after First Riot Death
[AnNahar] A Sri Lankan province north of the capital was under indefinite curfew Tuesday after the first death in anti-Moslem riots in the wake of the Easter terror attacks, police said.

A nationwide night curfew was relaxed in all areas except the North-Western Province (NWP) where a Moslem man was killed by a mob on Monday, police said, in a violent backlash against last month's bombings.

The 45-year-old died of injuries sustained when a crowd stormed his carpentry workshop in the Puttalam district in the NWP and slashed him, official sources said.

Elsewhere in the province, mobs torched dozens of Moslem-owned shops, vandalised homes and mosques in a day of rioting.

"The curfew in the NWP will be continued until further notice," front man Ruwan Gunasekera said. "Security forces are assisting police who have been ordered to use maximum force to contain the violence."

Police said they had gun sex and used tear gas at several places to deter people attempting to attack mosques.

In the adjoining district of Gampaha, mobs smashed Moslem-owned restaurants and at least one garment factory, official sources and residents said.

In an address to the nation on Monday night, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said a countrywide curfew was declared to prevent unidentified groups orchestrating communal violence.

"At several places in the North-Western Province these groups created trouble, damaged property," Wickremesinghe said.

"Police and security forces have contained the situation, but these (unidentified) groups are still trying to create trouble."
