China: The Post-Afghanistan U.S. Adversary in South Asia
[Committee on on the present danger: China} By Col. Lawrence Sellin, US Army (Ret.), Ph.D.

Executive Summary

The United States must now accept the fact that we failed to meet our objectives in Afghanistan and, upon withdrawal, the best outcome we can expect would be a new U.S. regional strategy that prevents our adversaries from benefitting from that failure.

Pakistan, not Afghanistan, is the epicenter of Islamic extremism and has always been an ally of China. The China-Pakistan Axis sees U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan as an essential first step towards regional domination of South Asia, which would be a long-term strategic threat to the United States. Without an American military presence in Afghanistan, the U.S. must take measures to strategically disrupt Chinese-Pakistani regional ambitions through traditional containment policies and exploiting the nation-state, ethnic and religious faults lines within the region.

Why limited-government conservatism is likely to make a comeback after Trump
[Washington Examiner] As conservatism takes its new shape in the face of President Trump's takeover of the Republican Party, old alliances have been fractured, and multiple fights have broken out about what conservatism should look like. Many of those who waded into the debate have assumed, not without justification, that recent political developments have shattered limited-government conservatism and that any future conservatism is likely going to be less libertarian than that which preceded Trump. But there are a number of good reasons to believe that limited-government conservatism will make a comeback.

Trumpism has managed to expose deep fissures that had been growing for a long time on the Right, and every so often, a commentator will come out and say something that triggers a round of opinion pieces on what conservatism is or really should be about. Fox's Tucker Carlson kicked a hornet's nest earlier this year when he offered a blistering critique of capitalism. More recently, a fight has broken out after Sohrab Ahmari, writing in First Things, used National Review's David French as a foil to essentially make the case for a more aggressive conservative posture in the culture war. I don't want to relitigate the fight at this late stage, but it did strike me that many of the responses to the Ahmari-French skirmish morphed into meditations on what conservatism might look like after Trump, with the assumption that it's likely to be different than it was before.

In one of the more recent entries in this debate, Ross Douthat has considered the future of traditional fusionism on the Right. Roughly speaking, this is the name given to the alliance of social conservatives, economic libertarians, and national security hawks that emerged during the Cold War and existed in some form, with its own set of tensions, until Trump came along. Throwing out some ideas about what a post-Trump version of this may look like, Douthat writes, "the basic concept of a right rooted more in cultural conservatism and economic populism than in libertarianism and individualism isn’t fanciful; it describes the emergent right-of-center ideological formations all across the Western world."

Douthat is not alone in suggesting that the limited government ideology that was a fixture on the Right for decades could continue to recede in influence going forward.

Trump's populist success within the GOP would provide empirical reasons to be skeptical of the future for the limited government branch of the conservative movement. After all, Trump has launched (or threatened) multiple trade wars, has resisted doing anything to address entitlement spending, and has managed to increase deficits during a booming economy. Yet he enjoys sky-high approval among Republicans, and no serious candidate is willing to challenge him in a primary. These are all good reasons to assume that the populist forces that Trump has unleashed will remain after he leaves.

#1  It used to be said "everyone is conservative where their own wallet is concerned." The left co-opted that by getting at the wallet indirectly. Of course the GOPe wants to spend spend spend just as bad as the donks do, and they work together to p*ss down the taxpayers' backs and swear it's a warm rain. They all package "worthy causes" (somali immigrants, cowboy poetry, drug sniffing dogs and MRAPs for jerkwater town police departments, and so on) so only a stone-hearted "right winger who is against everything good" could object.

#4  Too many pretend-libertarians decided to let Silicon Valley and guys like Elon Musk become third party tax farmers for the carbon tax they didn't want to advocate for directly and pretend that was libertarianism. Between that and pot they just about killed it.

#5  We may actually need a "big government" conservatism to deal with the fact that the left dominates virtually every institution of significance in the West.

I'm not saying this will definitely happen, and I don't relish the prospect, but it's foolish to dismiss the possibility - or the necessity of it - out of hand.

You don't win a knife fight by announcing that you will be leaving all your blades on the table.

PA stops Islamist group from performing holiday prayers in Hebron mosque
[IsraelTimes] Crackdown comes as Hizb al-Tahrir supporters mark Eid al-Fitr on Monday, contradicting PA-appointed grand mufti of Jerusalem; social media pictures appear to show use of force.
I had no idea Hizb-ut-Tahrir was active in the Israeli area.
Pictures and videos posted on social media appeared to show PA security security forces detaining Hizb al-Tahrir supporters in the area around the al-Abrar Mosque and employing force against some of them.

Hizb al-Tahrir, which supports the establishment of a caliphate ruled by Islamic law, declared on Monday that Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the conclusion of Ramadan, would start that evening, contradicting Mohammed Hussein, the PA-appointed grand mufti of Jerusalem who had announced that the festival would commence Tuesday night.

"Supporters and members of Hizb al-Tahrir tried to carry out holiday prayers in the al-Abrar Mosque in Hebron, but our security forces stopped them from doing so," the bigwig, who works at PA headquarters in Hebron, said. "While they can do what they want in their homes, they do not have the right to use a mosque to revolt against the official Paleostinian position on when Eid al-Fitr starts."

According to Islamic tradition, Eid al-Fitr starts upon the first sighting of the new moon following the month of Ramadan. Hizb al-Tahrir declared that Eid al-Fitr would start Monday evening after a number of Moslem-majority countries, including Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, announced that it would begin at that time.

The Islamist group maintains that even if one Moslem-majority country declares it has seen the new moon, all Moslems should begin celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

Baher Saleh, an official in Hizb al-Tahrir’s media office, declined to comment on Tuesday’s incident, noting that his group does not communicate with Israeli news outlets.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
he told Rooters that PA security forces placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
13 persons in the area surrounding the mosque.

The Hebron-based official accused Hizb al-Tahrir of declaring the start of the holiday Monday evening to undermine the PA.

"What they did was a political move," he said. "They did that to undermine the PA’s illusory sovereignty, which is something we cannot tolerate."

Jihad Harb, a Ramallah-based researcher, said that the PA sometimes cracks down on Hizb al-Tahrir’s activities.

"There have been occasions when the PA did not allow Hizb al-Tahrir to hold public gatherings, but there have been many other occasions when it permitted it to do so," he said, adding that PA security forces do not have major concerns about Hizb al-Tahrir because its members have not used violence to achieve their goals.

Hizb al-Tahrir was established in 1953 by Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani, a Moslem scholar and Islamic court judge who was born in the Haifa area.

Omran Risheq, a Paleostinian analyst, described the group’s ideology in a 2008 article published by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace: "Hizb al-Tahrir made the idea of resurrecting the caliphate a permanent watchword of its political activity and a religious duty, in addition to being a panacea for the political, economic, and social problems of the world’s Moslems."

Harb also said that Hizb al-Tahrir does not have many members compared to other Paleostinian groups, such as Fatah.

"Most of their members live in Hebron and Jerusalem," he said, estimating that some 5,000-7,000 Paleostinians actively support it.

#1  not a trivial issue if you buy the theology and the religious response to the theology

Iran to free Lebanese man jailed for US spying
[IsraelTimes] Nizar Zakka, a US resident, to be released after 2015 arrest for alleged ’deep ties’ to American military and intelligence.

Iran is to free a Lebanese national held since 2015 and sentenced to 10 years in jail on charges of spying for Washington, the foreign ministry in Beirut said Tuesday.

Nizar Zakka,
...a US permanent resident who advocated for internet freedom and has done work for the US government, Mr. Zakka disappeared while visiting Tehran for a state-sponsored conference, according to a statement from the Washington-based group IJMA3-USA, which advocates for Internet freedom across the Middle East...
a resident of the United States in his 50s, was tossed in the calaboose
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
in September 2015 during a visit to Iran, where he was convicted the following July.

The foreign ministry, quoted by Leb’s official news agency NNA, said Zakka was pardoned at the request of Beirut as a gesture for this week’s Eid holidays marking the end of the Moslem holy month of Ramadan.

At the time of his arrest, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
in Iran charged Zakka had "deep ties to military and intelligence services of the United States," Iran’s arch-foe.

It broadcast photographs of a man in military uniform it said was of Zakka at an American base.

The report on his imminent release following almost four years of detention comes at a time of heightened US-Iranian tensions.

Washington last month deployed an aircraft carrier task force, B-52 bombers and an amphibious assault ship to the Gulf, along with additional troops over an alleged Iranian plan to attack US assets.

Islamic State claims deadly attack in east Congo's Ebola zone
[Rooters] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
grabbed credit on Tuesday for a deadly overnight attack in an area of eastern Congo hit by an Ebola epidemic, although its account of the violence differed from local reports.

The deputy mayor of Beni in the eastern Democratic of Congo said 13 non-combatants were killed late on Monday in an attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) - a group thought to be linked to Islamic State.

"The victims were killed by bullets and others by bladed weapons," Mayor Modeste Bakwanamaha told Rooters.

In a statement on the messaging website Telegram, Islamic State said it was behind the attack. It said it had targeted the Congolese army in Beni, killing or wounding 25 people.

The bloodshed added to widespread insecurity that has hampered efforts to contain the second-worst Ebola epidemic on record. The number of cases hit 2,000 this week as the rate of infection accelerated.

Bakwanamaha said the latest violence was likely a response to a crackdown by the Congolese army last week that killed 26 ADF members after they attacked an army position in Ngite.

The ADF has never claimed allegiance to Islamic State, but Islamic State said last Thursday its 'Central Africa Province' affiliate had inflicted "dozens of casualties" on Congolese forces, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors online jihadist activity.

Egypt attack: 8 Soldiers killed in raid on Sinai checkpoint
[Aljazeera] Fighters have killed eight Egyptian security personnel at a security checkpoint in Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula, the interior ministry said.

"Terrorist elements targeted a checkpoint west of El Arish early this morning... The exchange of fire killed fire terrorist elements and eight police were martyred," a ministry statement said on Wednesday.

Some fighters escaped and security forces are following "their movements", the ministry added.

"Eight killed and three wounded were transferred to El Arish public hospital. All of the victims were Central Security Force personnel," a medical source told the AFP news agency.

Egyptian state TV said there were fears the death toll could rise as there were reports of attacks on multiple checkpoints.

The attack came at the start of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

No group has claimed responsibility so far for the early morning attack and authorities have not yet commented on the incident.

Fox's Lou Dobbs: GOP Senators Opposing Trump's Mexico Tariffs Are ‘Traitors' to Their Country
[Daily Beast] Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs tore into Senate Republicans Tuesday night for opposing President Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on Mexico, calling the GOP lawmakers "traitors" to their country who are threatening to destroy it.

"The Republican Party in the Senate appears, to me, to be on the verge of committing absolute suicide," the Trump-boosting conservative host exclaimed, just hours after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) acknowledged that there’s "not much support" in the GOP caucus for the president’s tariffs, which many believe will only hurt U.S. businesses.

To Dobbs, however, disagreeing with the president is apparently nothing short of an existential crisis.

"The tragedy is they may well take this great Republic down with them," he said.

Still seething towards the end of the program, Dobbs brought on Fox News contributor Emily Compagno to discuss the Republicans’ warning to Trump. And he immediately began spouting off apocalyptic hyperbole.

"This is, I think, one of the darkest moments that I have seen in our capital for a long time," he declared. "This is an abject betrayal on the part of Mitch McConnell."

End of Human Civilization Now Pushed Out to 2050
[NYP] A harrowing new climate change report warns we may be on the way to extinction, claiming there is a "high likelihood" human civilization will come to an end by 2050 unless action is taken on greenhouse gas emissions.
A harrowing new climate change report - is there any other kind?
The dire paper, which predicts a biblical-like scenario of devastating floods, drought, famine and a breakdown in international order, has been endorsed by the former chief of Australia’s military.

The analysis, published May 30 by Australian think tank the Breakthrough National Centre for Climate Restoration, calls for a new approach to climate change and paints a bleak picture of the world in 30 years if nothing is done to combat greenhouse emissions.

Assuming we stay on our current trajectory, emissions will lock in a 3 degree Celsius (5.4 degrees Fahrenheit) global warming, setting off a disastrous chain off events which the report’s authors claim will lead to "a high likelihood of human civilization coming to an end."

According to the report’s central "2050 scenario," one billion people will be forced to relocate from unlivable conditions while food production will become inadequate to feed the global population, as first reported by VICE.

North America will suffer from devastating weather extremes including wildfires, heatwaves and drought ‐ while other places in the world such as the Middle East and West Africa will become unlivable.

Meanwhile, 55% of the global population would be subjected to more than 20 days a year of lethal heat conditions, "beyond the threshold of human survivability."

"This scenario provides a glimpse into a world of ’outright chaos’ on a path to the end of human civilization and modern society as we have known it, in which the challenges to global security are simply overwhelming and political panic becomes the norm," the authors claim.

Israeli intel firm: Alleged IDF strike on Syrian base targeted Iranian drones
[IsraelTimes] Satellite image analysis company ImageSat says attack attributed to Israel seems to have been pinpoint Arclight airstrike, targeting a small number of recently arrived components from Iran..

An Israeli satellite imagery analysis firm on Tuesday determined that the target of an airstrike on a Syrian air base earlier this week, which was attributed to Israel, appeared to be an Iranian drone facility.

According to the company, ImageSat International, the attack late Sunday night appeared to be a pinpoint strike, targeting "one element or just a few elements" connected to Tehran’s unmanned aerial vehicle program in Syria, indicating that the components were of "particular importance."

This assessment was based on satellite images of the targeted facility, the T-4 air base near Palmyra, from Tuesday. Comparing these photographs to ones from May 22, the private intelligence firm determined that the strike hit a small crop of buildings on the base.

The firm said that a number of cargo planes had recently landed at the base from Iran prior to the strike, indicating that they had delivered the equipment that was targeted.

"According to our assessment, it is reasonable that [the target] was a component [or components] connected to [Iran’s] UAV program," ImageSat said in a statement.

Syrian state media said that Israel was behind the attack late Sunday night on the T-4 air base, which the Israel Defense Forces has bombed in the past and which Jerusalem has long claimed to be a facility used by Iran and its proxies.

The Israeli military refused to comment on Sunday’s strike. Israel generally acknowledges conducting operations in Syria, but refuses to take responsibility for particular attacks, with the exception of retaliatory strikes in response to attacks from Syria, as occurred on Saturday night.

Syrian military officials told the state media outlet SANA that the attack on the T-4 air base targeted and destroyed a weapons storage facility and several other buildings at the base.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported five people were killed, including one Syrian soldier. It said the attack also destroyed a rocket warehouse.

Alabama legislature passes bill requiring child sex offenders to undergo chemical castration before being released
[MAIL] Alabama state lawmakers on Tuesday passed a bill that would require child sex offenders to be chemically castrated before their release from prison.

A Republican member of the State House of Representatives introduced the measure, which now needs to be signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey.

Steve Hurst, a Republican lawmaker from Calhoun County, says that chemical castration for convicted child sex offenders is an appropriate punishment.

‘They have marked this child for life and the punishment should fit the crime,’ Hurst told WIAT-TV.

The measure will likely be fiercely opposed by civil libertarians who say that it is a violation of the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution.

#6  This is wrong. Lists, controlled living conditions, forced poverty, and now castration. They should not be doing this to anybody, for any crime. If people are judged to be a threat, they shouldn't be allowed out of prison in the first place. This is a radical expansion of the police state to make this punishment seem acceptable to people "only for the worst people of course" and then institute it for more and more people.

#7  And Chris, just because a democrat somewhere denounces it doesn't mean that it is automatically a good thing. Just because a Republic suggests it doesn't mean that it is a good thing. How about looking at things with your own moral compass? I'll be the first to admit that the democrats are almost always wrong, but they're not ALWAYS wrong. Like when Bill Maher will once in a blue moon mention the creeping Islamic fascism in our society. He's still a scummy democratic mouthpiece, but for whatever reason he's decided he will sometimes speak the truth about that.

#8  Ok, so I get the thought behind the idea. But as I have said before, Pedophilia is not a disease driven by testicles. It is driven from the brain. Castration will do very little to stop the abuse these people cause. The abuse is sexual in nature because that is the most personal types of abuse, there is little out these to show this works. Like I have said before, the psychosis is one of abuse, not sexual attraction. There are some great studies out there on this topic, and I recommend all parents read them. ALL child abusers, male and female, were abused as children. Not all abused kids become abusers, but ALL child abusers were abused as kids and never dealt with their trauma. Now they are validating their lives and sharing their trauma is a different and more violent way. Once an abuser become a serial abuser there is no way to help them, castration, counselling, or otherwise. There are ZERO reformed repetitive abusers in this world, castrated or not. Look at Biden, he may not be an abuser, but he cant help himself when it comes to controlling and fondling people. It not a quirk, its a psychosis of control and dominance. He knows it will cost him the election, but he can not control himself, even on the world stage. The only way to deal with pedophiles is to remove them from society. Read the case studies from the book child hunters. It is a rather sad book with no happy ending, but it makes clear of the base for these people, both men and women, how they escalate, and how it has yet to be curable. If you are a parent and have not read this, you will not see the threat that is around your kids every day. Or how to protect them.

#10  That's it TW. Be careful, it is a very real and disturbing group of case studies that span the lives of these creeps from childhood to death. The author is European, and this is translated literally, so the grammar is tough to read. This book changed the way I see abuse, abused people, and the ramifications of not dealing with abuse early. The human condition is a frightening one. And for those out there that think this is a "its not their fault" book, think again. A dog that has rabies is not at fault for it, but there is only one way to deal with the rabid dog, same goes for these men and women that abuse babies.

#17  Boo Hoo Hoo.

For all the people worrying about the fascist intrusion of those nasty chemicals into your favorite baby diddler's gonads, chemical castration is not permanent. It ain't like spaying a dog.

The modern chems used for it are LHRH , Goserelin and Histrelin Acetate (both are gonadotropin-releasing agonists). Incidentally they are also used for curbing overdevelopment of ovaries and prostates in children. And cancer. What they do is suppress desire for (increased)sexual activity by suppressing production of both male and female hormones. In some cases it may not work at all. In all cases, periodic re-medication is necessary to maintain the effect.

Some govt.s still use the old chemicals like medroxyprogesterone and cyproterone acetate - which are based on female hormones and supress not only male hormones but even male characteristics. In fact, britain discontinued them because they are also used in sex re-assignment and combined with estrogen can cause severe depression and other effects (you can understand why).

Alabama has, interestingly in the past also experimented with chem castration for black males. Using the old progesterone method. I don't know what they're using there now. Its effect is bound to be temporary anyway.

What I think ? They should be lynched. There are some things you can't depend on the state for.

Alabama mayor defends comments on ‘killing out' gay and transgender people, ‘baby killers'
[AL.com] Chambers wrote:

"We live in a society where homosexuals lecture us on morals, transvestites lecture us on human biology, baby killers lecture us on human rights and socialists lecture us on economics."

When a Facebook friend replied that they "hate to think of the country my grandkids will live in," adding change would "take a revolution," Chambers replied: "The only way to change it would be to kill the problem out. I know it’s bad to say but without killing them out there’s no way to fix it."

Chambers initially denied writing the post to WBRC but later said they were meant to be shared in a private message as opposed to a public post. He also said the comments were taken out of context.

"I never said anything about killing out gays or anything like that," Chambers told the television station, saying his posts was referring to what would happen in a "revolution."

"If it comes to a revolution in this country both sides of these people will be killed out," he said.

Chambers was not at city hall when AL.com attempted to contact him and the person who answered the phone said he did not have email. He has not responded to questions sent to him via the city clerk.

Leader of La Luz del Mundo charged with child rape
[FoxNews] The leader and self-proclaimed apostle of La Luz del Mundo, a Mexico-based church with branches in the U.S. that claims over 1 million followers, has been charged with human trafficking and child rape, California officials announced Tuesday.

Joaquín García and a follower of the church, 24-year-old Susana Medina Oaxaca, were arrested Monday after landing at Los Angeles International Airport, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra's office said.

Around 1,000 worshippers gathered at the headquarters of La Luz del Mundo in Guadalajara, Jalisco, on Tuesday evening to pray for García as he was held in Los Angeles on $25 million bail.

García, 50, faces 26 counts of felony charges that range from human trafficking and production of child pornography to rape of a minor. The charges detail a series of disturbing allegations involving three girls and one woman between 2015 and 2018 in Los Angeles County.

The fundamentalist Christian church, whose name translates to The Light of the World, was founded in 1926 by García's grandfather. It has been the subject of child sex abuse allegations for years but authorities in Mexico have never filed criminal charges. It has more than 15,000 churches in 58 countries, according to its website. The church's followers must adhere to a strict moral code in exchange for the promise of eternal salvation.

García — who was a minister in Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California before becoming the church's leader — coerced the victims into performing sex acts by telling them that refusing would be going against God, authorities said. He allegedly forced the victims, who were members of the church, to sexually touch themselves and each other. One of his co-defendants also allegedly took nude photographs of the victims and sent the pictures to García.

The attorney general's investigation began in 2018, prompted in part by a tip to the state's Department of Justice through an online clergy abuse complaint form.

A third follower, Alondra Ocampo, 36, was arrested in Los Angeles County and is being held ahead of her arraignment Wednesday in Los Angeles. A fourth defendant, Azalea Rangel Melendez, remains at large.

Mexico Cracks Down on Migrants, After Pressure From Trump to Act
[NYT] TAPACHULA, Mexico ‐ They arrived at dusk, dressed for combat, pouring from government vehicles. A phalanx of military and police personnel swarmed a small hotel in the center of Tapachula, this scrappy city near Mexico’s border with Guatemala. Their target: undocumented migrants.

Agents rushed door to door, hauling people away, while migrants shouted or ran out the back, scampering over the rooftops of neighboring homes, witnesses said.

It was one of several raids here last week to sweep up migrants, part of a broad Mexican crackdown against the surge of Central Americans and others streaming toward the United States. In recent weeks, the Mexican authorities have been breaking up migrant caravans and setting up round-the-clock roadblocks along common routes north.

Detentions and deportations in Mexico are multiplying quickly, sowing fear among the many thousands of Central Americans and others crowding the migrant shelters and budget hotels here in southern Mexico, most of them hoping to reach the American border.

"So scary," said one Cuban migrant at the hotel. "The fear never goes away."

The Mexican government has been under intense pressure from President Trump to block the tens of thousands of undocumented migrants trudging north each month. With the American authorities unable to stop illegal immigration into the United States, Mr. Trump has taken aim at countries in the region ‐ including Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, the origins of most of the migration ‐ threatening punishment unless they to do more.

Feckless Washington Pols Are Calling For A Ban on Firearm Sound Suppressors
[Daily Caller] Politicians are calling for a ban on silencers after a disgruntled Virginia Beach, Virginia, city employee used one while gunning down 12 co-workers.

It was reported that the gunman, DeWayne Craddock, 40, used two .45-caliber handguns equipped with "extended" magazines and one with a suppressor.

A silencer is any device fitted to the end of a gun that lowers its sound output, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF).

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sent a tweet Sunday about suppressors, linking to a Washington Post op-ed that compared the sound of suppressed gunfire to a chair scraping the floor.

Judicial Watch: Strzok-Page Emails Suggest Clinton Email Investigation Was ‘A JOKE'
[Daily Caller] FBI emails released by a conservative watchdog group Monday suggest the bureau was lax in its investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

Judicial Watch obtained the 218 pages of emails between former FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok and agency lawyer Lisa Page. The activist group says the documents demonstrate how the FBI showed "special treatment" towards the former secretary of state and her lawyer.

"These incredible documents show the leadership of the FBI rushed to give Hillary Clinton her FBI interview report shortly before the election," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton wrote in a news release. "And the documents also show the FBI failed to timely document interviews in the Clinton email ’matter’ ‐ further confirming the whole investigation was a joke." (RELATED: Liz Cheney: Strzok-Page Text Messages ’Could Well Be Treason)

The emails focus on what the bureau calls "302s" ‐ reports that document what was said during an interview between an agent and a witness. Page reportedly notes in one email that no such 302 was completed in four instances during the Clinton investigation. The lawyer, who was involved in an affair with Strzok at the time, did not go into details as to why there was such an oversight.

Why Did The Obama Administration Ignore Reports Of Russian Election Meddling?
[The Federalist] During her hour-long interview last week of Attorney General William Barr, "CBS This Morning" journalist Jan Crawford focused mainly on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of President Trump. She also, however, questioned Barr on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) efforts to ensure that Russian attempts to interfere in our elections are not repeated in 2020.

This revealed the attorney general is probing a second scandal of the Obama administration related to the 2016 presidential election. Or it would be regarded as a second scandal if it garnered more attention: Why the Obama administration failed to forcefully respond to intelligence of Russian interference in our elections.

The DOJ has "an increasingly robust program that is focusing on foreign influence in our election process, with the FBI obviously taking the lead," Barr told Crawford. But not enough was done in 2016, Barr acknowledged.

"Bob Mueller did some impressive work in his investigation, you know, identifying some of the Russian hackers and their influence campaign and you sort of wonder if that kind of work had been done starting in 2016, things could have been a lot different," he said. Crawford replied, "It’s just hard to understand why it wasn’t taken more seriously." Barr agreed, saying he had no idea why it wasn’t. "That’s one of the things I’m interested in looking at as part of my review of the Russia collusion investigation," Barr stressed.

With people warned as early as April 2016, "I’m wondering what, exactly, was the response to it if they were alarmed. Surely the response should have been more than just, you know, dangling a confidential informant in front of a peripheral player in the Trump campaign," the attorney general told Crawford before she moved to another topic.

#6  McClacthy Report. 14 Mar 2019: Expert in Trump dossier trial says tech firm’s services were used in hack of Democrats

Documents unsealed in a South Florida court case provide the most convincing evidence yet that Russian spies piggybacked on a Russian-tied foreign tech company with offices in Florida and Texas to hack the Democratic National Committee and party leaders.

The documents were unsealed Thursday in the aftermath of a failed defamation lawsuit brought against online news company BuzzFeed by XBT Holding and its founder, Aleksej Gubarev. BuzzFeed had identified him and his company when it published in January 2017 the so-called Trump dossier, compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele.

The research that made up the dossier was mostly paid for by political opponents of Donald Trump from both major parties during his 2016 campaign, and among its explosive allegations were that XBT’s Internet platform was used to launch cyber warfare that interfered in the U.S. elections.

Britain
Sajid Javid's little brother Bas wins job to manage frontline policing as Commander at Scotland Yard
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Javid is the winner! Not Home Secretary Sajid Javid, a leading candidate to succeed Theresa May as Prime Minister, but his brother Bas, who has won a key role at the Metropolitan Police.

Currently a Chief Superintendent at the West Midlands force, Bas has secured promotion to the role of Commander at Scotland Yard, in charge of frontline policing.

'After 12 years with West Midlands Police, I'll be sad to say goodbye next week,' 48-year-old Bas confirms.

Sajid is much more closely involved at Scotland Yard than elsewhere. The Met is the only force where the Home Secretary has a role in choosing the chief and his deputy. Sajid is also involved in counter-terror policing, which is carried out nationally through the Met.

However, there is no suggestion that Bas won his promotion through anything other than hard work. Sajid, 49, has pointed to the influence of his brother as he campaigns to win the keys to 10 Downing Street.

The brothers were born in Rochdale, Lancashire, as two of five sons of Pakistani Muslim immigrant parents.

Their father, who arrived in Britain with £1 in his pocket, worked as a bus driver before moving to Bristol to run a shop. The family lived in a two-bedroom flat above it.

in eastern Syrian in March, officials must continue to deal with the group’s reign of terror in al-Hol detention camp, where more than 73,000 people are living. In particular, the fate of imported muscle’ wives and children remains an international concern.

The majority arrived in early 2019 as Kurdish forces closed in on the last Islamic State (ISIS) holdout of Baghouz putting camp infrastructure under significant strain. According to UN figures, the camp population consists of Iraqis (43%), Syrians (42%) and third-country nationals (15%).

Those not from Iraq and Syria present problems for camp and local officials as repatriation varies greatly by their country of origin. It is further complicated by the fact that 91 percent of the camp’s residents are women and kiddies, 65 percent are under age 12, and 20,000 are children under the age of 5.

On June 2, Norway announced the repatriation of five children from Syria. Their Oslo-bound flight left Erbil on Monday.

Arab Coalition evacuates injured crew member of an Iranian ship
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Arab Coalition supporting the legitimate Yemeni government said Tuesday that it evacuated a crew member of an Iranian ship for medical reasons northwest of Yemen's Hodeidah port, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Citing the official spokesperson of the Arab Coalition, SPA said that Jeddah’s Search and Rescue Center received a report from the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation that included a call for help from the Iranian ship Savis, requesting the evacuation of a crew member.

The report said that the crew member has been critically injured and that his health was deteriorating on the ship, as per SPA’s statement.

Spokesperson Turki al-Maliki also told SPA that the coalition responded to the call and evacuated the injured member through medical evacuation helicopters, after which he was transported to a military hospital in Jazan, Soddy Arabia

The coalition provided the casualty with primary medical assistance on board, to later evacuate him due to his critical health condition, added Maliki.

Saudi Arabia received an official request from the Iranian ambassador to the UN, through Saudi Arabia’s ambassador for the UN, for the evacuation, which was already in place as soon as the call for help was received, SPA quoted al-Maliki as saying.

Russia halts UN Security Council statement on Syria’s Idlib
[Rudaw] Russia blocked the UN Security Council on Monday from issuing a statement sounding alarm about the increasing fighting in and around Syria’s Idlib province and the possibility of a humanitarian disaster, a council diplomat said.

The thwarted statement marked the latest in a series of logjams over Syria in the UN’s most influential body.

Fighting has raged in Idlib and nearby areas in northwest Syria since government troops started pushing into the enclave on April 30, trying to retake the country’s last rebel-held redoubt after eight years of civil war. The UN says an estimated 3 million people are caught in the crossfire.

After multiple briefings last week on Idlib, Belgium, Kuwait and Germany proposed that the council express concern about attacks on civilians and assaults by turban groups as well as a the potential for humanitarian catastrophe if a full-scale military operation unfolds, according to a draft seen by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. It called for humanitarian access, safe return for refugees and for following international humanitarian law on protecting civilians.

"It was really simple," Kuwaiti Ambassador Mansour al-Otaibi said when asked about the proposal at an unrelated news conference.

But key Syrian ally Russia objected Monday to the proposed statement, said a diplomat, who agreed to tell about the private discussions only if not quoted by name.

Russia’s UN mission didn’t immediately respond to an inquiry about the proposed statement.

The Security Council has struggled to speak with one voice on Syria in recent years. In one notable example, a 2017 Russian veto put an end to an initiative that determined accountability for chemical attacks in Syria. That effort was run jointly by the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

At points, the US has accused Russia, a close Syrian ally, of using its veto-wielding seat to stop the council from taking important steps to stanch the violence and suffering in Syria.

Russia, in turn, has said its critics are trying to score rhetorical points while it has made concrete efforts, such as joining with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
to broker an Idlib cease-fire in September.

Russia and Syria, which is not a council member, say Damascus is doing what is needed to fight terrorists.

In a recent sign of the council’s divide on the issue, 11 council members, including Germany, Kuwait, Belgium and the US, issued a statement last month that also expressed concern about the intensifying hostilities around Idlib and the potential for humanitarian catastrophe. Four council members ‐ Russia, China, South Africa and Indonesia ‐ didn’t join in supporting that statement.

Mansour, whose country holds the council’s rotating presidency this month, said Monday that members would continue discussions.

Hermit Kingdom warns US: Our patience running out, Singapore deal at risk
[PRESSTV] North Korea warns the US that the agreement the two sides reached in Singapore last year could be at risk if Washington keeps putting undue pressure on Pyongyang to make it take unilateral measures towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

An unnamed North Korean Foreign Ministry front man complained in a statement on Tuesday about Washington’s refusal to drop the policy of "only insisting on our unilateral surrender of nuclear weapons" a year after US President Donald Trump

signed the agreement during their first summit in Singapore in June 2018.

"The US would be well-advised to change its current method of calculation and respond to our request as soon as possible. There is a limit to our patience," the official said in the statement, which was carried by the North’s official KCNA news agency.

Under that agreement, the US and the North Korea agreed to work for peace on the Korean Peninsula and address prisoners of war (POWs) and missing in action (MIA) cases from the 1950s Korean war, in which the US was on South Korea’s side.

North Korea also reaffirmed its commitment to working "towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

Enraged mob attempts to lynch spiritual healer’s killers
[DAWN] The killing of a local spiritual healer in Green Town late on Sunday created a massive law and order situation when an enraged mob attacked a police van to get custody of the three suspected murderers from police.

Police came under attack by hundreds of charged locals shortly after the suspects stabbed to death spiritual healer Zafar Shah.

The suspects tried to enter the residence of Shah in Feroz Park while chasing a man who took shelter in his house. Accompanied by some locals, including women, the suspects claimed that the man they were chasing had a dispute with them.

A police official claimed that Shah stopped the suspects from entering his house as his family was present inside. When a woman along with some locals tried to force her entry into the house, Shah allegedly slapped her. This led to a brawl between the two sides, the official said, adding that one of the ’intruders’ got furious and stabbed Shah to death.

The news of the murder created unrest in the area as Shah’s relatives and hundreds of locals gathered on the spot. They managed to capture three suspects involved in the killing and subjected them to severe torture.

After receiving a call, police personnel rushed to the site followed by officials of the Police Response Unit, who rescued the suspects from the mob and shifted them into a police van.

The situation turned ugly when dozens more locals joined in and surrounded the police van carrying the suspects. They burst the tyres of the van, damaged windows and tried to get the custody of the suspects.

A heavy contingent of police from nearby cop shoppes, led by two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), reached the spot to control the law and order situation. The DSPs informed the high-ups about the sensitivity of the matter and Saddar Superintendent of Police (SP) Ahsan Saifullah also reached there with more personnel.

Corbyn vows to resist US takeover of British health service
[PRESSTV] Leader of Britannia’s main opposition Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn has vowed to fight US efforts to influence UK’s prestigious National Health Service (NHS).

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...

"We will not stand for that. We will fight with every last breath of our body to defend the principle of a healthcare system free at the point of need for everybody as a human right," said Corbyn.

The comments came as Trump said during a presser with British Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday that the NHS should be on the table during talks to reach a comprehensive trade deal between Washington and London.
What an idiot. Opening up purchasing to American medications and devices does not mean America wants to take over the semi-functional National Health Service. Really, who would want to? It would be worse than rationalizing the VA.

Iran’s Khamenei says Tehran will not abandon its missile program
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that Tehran would not be "deceived" by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s offer of negotiations and would not give up its missile program.

Iran and the United States have been drawn into starker confrontation in the past month, a year after Washington pulled out of a deal between Iran and global powers to curb Tehran’s nuclear program in return for lifting international sanctions.

Trump has condemned the nuclear deal, signed by his predecessor Barack Obama
My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it...
, as flawed for not being permanent and for not covering Iran’s ballistic missile program and its role in conflicts around the Middle East. He has called on Iran to come to negotiating table to reach a new deal.

Trump said last week that Iran "has a chance to be a great country, with the same leadership. We’re not looking for regime change. I just want to make that clear. We’re looking for no nuclear weapons."

Reacting to those comments, Khamenei said in a speech broadcast on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
: "The US president recently said Iran can achieve development with its current leaders. That means they do not seek regime change... but this political trick will not deceive Iranian officials and the Iranian nation."

"America will not be able to deprive Iran of its missile capabilities," Khamenei said, speaking at a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran.

, Ghazni, Nangarhar

The last two days of Ramadan, June 2 and 3 witnessed five IED blasts which left seven people dead and more than 20 others maimed. In a recent incident on Monday, June 3, an IED kaboom targeted employees of the Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission, leaving five dead.

The Anadolu News Agency’s research shows that Kabul city alone was rocked by three terrorist attacks in the last week of May, killing six soldiers and five civilians, while injuring over 20 civilians.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
Ghazni remained the most volatile province of all 34 provinces in the country this month, the report says.

According to the report, during Ramadan, 33 Afghan children and 14 women were killed, while 34 more children and 9 women got injured in different violent incidents.

The Taliban refused to agree on a ceasefire during the month of Ramadan instead, they increased their attacks.

On June 2, the group captured Bala Murghab district in northwestern Badghis province and set on fire the district governor’s office as well as the police headquarters as a member of the Badghis Provincial Council described.

On June 1, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement that more than 100 Taliban fighters, most of them from the so-called red unit of the group, were killed in Afghan Army operations in Ghazni province in the center of Afghanistan. A day after the operation, a Humvee bombing targeted a security facility in the province which reportedly had some casualties.

This comes as presidential candidate and former head of the National Directorate of Security

Ukraine’s new president seeks pro-Western course, peace with Russia
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] New Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday he was ready to negotiate with Russia to end the war in eastern Ukraine while sticking to Ukraine’s goal of one day joining the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
alliance.

Speaking at NATO headquarters, Zelenskiy, a former comic actor with no prior political experience who took over as president on May 20, said he would keep Ukraine "on the path of European and Euro Atlantic integration."

"The strategic course of Ukraine to achieve fully-fledged membership in the EU and NATO ... remains unchanged," Zelenskiy told news hounds alongside NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. "This is the priority of our foreign policy."

Zelenskiy met European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker earlier on Tuesday in Brussels.

Zelenskiy has taken over a country on the frontline of the West’s standoff with Russia following Moscow’s 2014 annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula and a Kremlin-backed separatist conflict that has killed 13,000 people in eastern Ukraine.

NATO has provided training to Ukraine’s military and pledged to continue that support. Zelenskiy described Russian military power as a "major challenge" but said he was eager to revive a peace agreement reached in Minsk, Belarus.

The Minsk agreement, involving Ukraine and Russia and brokered by La Belle France and Germany, ended major combat in eastern Ukraine in 2015, although deadly festivities still occur regularly.

Ukraine and pro-Moscow separatists accuse each other of violating the truce.

"We are ready to negotiate with Russia. We are ready to implement the Minsk agreements. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
we first must be able to protect ourselves," he said.

"Our common task is to ensure stability and security in the Black Sea region," Zelenskiy said, adding that his new military Chief of the General Staff would hold peace talks "within the Minsk format" on Wednesday.

India-Pakistan
‘Mistaken’ content regulation
[DAWN] THE recent inadvertent blocking of certain websites such as Bloomberg and BuzzFeed in Pakistain makes for a concise study in the sinister nature of systems of arbitrary power ‐ as well as their silliness. The mechanisms for content regulation are straightforward enough: government and state institutions (often the interior ministry) send directives to the PTA (solely vested with the power to regulate content under the Pakistain Electronic Crimes Act) listing websites purportedly hosting illegal content; the authority, in turn, proceeds to direct internet service providers to block these websites. As reported in this paper on Monday, however, when contacted for more information on why these recent website restrictions (corroborated by multiple sources, including a copy of the directive) were imposed in Pakistain, the PTA initially denied blocking these particular sites, yet later issued fresh orders directing ISPs to unblock them.

Though the mistake originated from another department, what this absurdity of errors illustrates is how the PTA has no internal checks and balances with which to distinguish between legitimate and illegitimate requests, choosing instead to implement them en masse. Nor does it publicly disclose what web content has been restricted in Pakistain, or why ‐ making it that much harder for the public to scrutinise and challenge the legitimacy of their grounds. Adding to bureaucratic abstruseness is one of several deliberate flaws in Peca’s design: the use of vague and highly subjective terminology such as ’objectionable content’. This has created a climate in recent years in which internet freedom has consistently deteriorated, with all sorts of content ‐ including political, even satirical ‐ having been censored. Fundamental rights to freedom of speech and to a free press do come with the caveat of ’reasonable restrictions’, and most of our right to information laws are subject to a prohibitively long exemption list. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
it would be a subversion of the spirit of the Constitution to presume that citizens are not entitled to an open debate on where the line of ’reasonability’ ends, and a draconian censorship dragnet begins.

#1  Well that should do it! This killing will surely put us over the top and eliminate the need for an 18th year or war on top of the 17 unsuccessful years we've already done. Victory is just around the corner!

What's that you say? This war is hugely profitable and will never be allowed to end? Not today, not tomorrow, not in 50 years? We don't even have e defined victory condition? Gosh, it's like the entire objective in the first place was never to win. It would be like the Left admitting racism has been solved.

#2  The only reason this conflict has dragged on so long is because of half measures. Half measures necessary to protect your precious collaterals. It's a conundrum. How does one decisively end a war ? With overwhelming force and an attack which shatters the spirit of the enemy. Why can't we do it ? We value our humanity.

ISIS claims killing of Iraqi Army soldiers north of Baghdad

[Rudaw] Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) killed three "terrorists" after a patrol with the 59th Brigade was ambushed in a town in southern Anbar on Tuesday morning, the Iraqi Security Media Cell has announced.

The Iraqi Army said it came under a surprise attack, near the town of Tarmiya, around 25 kilometers north of Baghdad. The Islamic State (ISIS) also claimed responsibility for the attack.

ISF stated it was conducting a patrol for "terrorist elements," when one of its vehicles was targeted by an improvised-bomb (IED). That led to an exchange of gunfire that killed four ISF members and maimed four others as the Iraqi forces received reinforcements.

ISF's media cell also reported that the Iraqi forces were from Anbar.

An ISIS propaganda group on Telegram claimed the attack, saying they led an ambush with a roadside kaboom and later used gunfire.

"All terrorist elements were killed," stated the ISF. It detailed that after the deaths of the "three terrorists" follow-up investigations will continue.

The town of Tarmiya in Anbar ‐ Iraq's largest province ‐ lies on the border with Baghdad province.

Abdul-Mahdi told his National Security Council on Sunday that better cooperation is needed between Iraqi and Peshmerga forces in the disputed areas like Kirkuk. Poor relations between the government of former Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki and provincial officials set the conditions for ISIS to control about a quarter of Iraq in 2014 as they threatened to overrun Iraq and Kurdistan Region's capitals.

Ebola cases in DR Congo break 2,000 mark: Health ministry
Apparently we don’t worry about Ebola anymore, but here is an update anyway.
[AlAhram] DR Congo's health ministry said late Monday that it had recorded more than 2,000 cases of Ebola, two-thirds of which had been fatal, since the disease broke out in the country's east 10 months ago.

"Since the start of the epidemic, the total number of cases stands at 2,008, of which 1,914 have been confirmed [by lab test] while 94 are probable," it said in an update.

"In all, there have been 1,346 deaths (1,252 confirmed and 94 probable) and 539 people have recovered."

The ministry said it was important to retain the overall perspective, despite the breaching of the symbolic threshold of 2,000 cases.

"In recent weeks, the trend has been positive, although vigilance is still necessary," it said.

There have been fewer attacks on Ebola teams by gangs, which means health workers have "recovered some of the lost time to contain the spread of the epidemic," it said.

The epidemic was first declared in North Kivu province on August 1 and then spread to neighbouring Ituri, although there have not been any cases in neighbouring countries.

Efforts to tackle the crisis have been hampered both by militia attacks on treatment centres, in which some staff have been killed, and by the hostility of some local people to the medical teams.

The outbreak is the 10th in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
since the disease was identified in 1976.
Since it hasn’t become a worldwide pandemic, or even properly epidemic, the lack of hysteria is understandable.
It is the worst on record after an epidemic that struck three African countries between 2014-2016, leaving more than 11,300 people dead.

Saudi officials arrest over 60 people for supporting Palestinian Hamas movement

Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
more than 60 people, including Paleostinians and Saudis, on charges of supporting the Paleostinian Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, resistance movement.

Lebanese Arabic-language daily newspaper al-Akhbar, citing informed sources who requested anonymity, reported on Monday that officials in the conservative kingdom have been conducting a campaign against Saudi nationals and Paleostinian expatriates for more than two months, detaining dozens of people over affiliation to the Paleostinian group.

The report added that the most prominent figure among those arrested is Dr. Muhammad al-Khudari, who represented Hamas movement between mid-1990s and 2003 in Saudi Arabia.

Even though Khudari has left his position for years, he was detained and is now "being kept in detention under difficult conditions," according to family members.

Al-Ahbar went on to say that the campaign of arrests coincided with the closure and tight control of bank accounts, and a ban on sending any money from Saudi Arabia to the Gazoo Strip.

Saudi officials have apparently leveled charges of "supporting a terrorist movement and money laundering in support of terrorism and extremism" against those arrested.

The Grand Turk
Operation Claw: Turkey’s PKK offensive enters second week
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
claims to have "neutralized" dozens of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas since festivities escalated this week on Mount Khakurk, Kurdistan Region. The PKK says it has killed at least a dozen Ottoman Turkish soldiers in the last four days.

Turkey launched Operation Claw on May 27, targeting PKK positions inside the Kurdistan Region, close to its border with Turkey and Iran.

Hukusi Akar, Turkey’s defense minister, visited Ottoman Turkish troops in the border city of Yuksekova, Hakkari province late Monday.

There, he said Ottoman Turkish soldiers are conducting "a great fight in rugged terrain" and have "neutralized" 28 PKK fighters since the offensive began, according to a ministry statement.

The Ottoman Turkish army regularly uses the term neutralized to refer to those killed, maimed, or otherwise removed from the battlefield.

A further 25 PKK fighters have been neutralized in separate Ottoman Turkish military operations in the Kurdistan Region and 11 others inside Turkey, the defense minister said, bringing the total to 64 since May 27.

The operation has utilized fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, artillery, and ground forces. It centers on Mount Khakurk in the northern part of Erbil province.

Recent footage captured by locals showed great plumes of smoke rising from the mountainside. Ankara is widely reported to have targeted PKK positions with a domestically-build ballistic missile.

In a statement published Monday, the Peoples’ Defence Forces (HPG), the armed wing of the PKK, said its fighters had killed 12 Ottoman Turkish soldiers on Mount Khakurk between May 30 and June 1.

A "considerable number" of Ottoman Turkish troops have been injured, it said, while confirming two of its fighters had been killed.

One Ottoman Turkish soldier and an unspecified number of "high-ranking soldiers" have been killed on the Ottoman Turkish side of the border in the most recent PKK attacks, the HPG said.

The PKK, an gang fighting for greater political and cultural rights for Kurds in Turkey, has fought a decades-long war with the Ottoman Turkish state.

The group uses the Kurdistan Region of Iraq as a safe haven. It is currently headquartered in the Qandil Mountains.

Turkey has repeatedly launched cross-border incursions and bombing raids targeting the group in violation of Iraq’s illusory sovereignty.

Civilians are routinely caught in the crossfire. Villagers in Duhok stormed a Ottoman Turkish air force outpost in January after Arclight airstrikes killed six civilians.

Both Erbil and Baghdad have called on Ankara to halt its attacks and demanded the PKK withdraw from their territory.

Iraqi President Barham Salih "stressed the need to safeguard Iraqi illusory sovereignty and rejected any unilateral military action beyond Iraq’s borders," when he met with his Ottoman Turkish counterpart Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

Sudanese opposition rejects military’s transition plan after day of violence
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudan’s opposition on Tuesday rejected a plan by its military rulers to hold elections within nine months, a day after the worst bout of violence since Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
was ousted as president in April.

At least 35 people were killed on Monday when security forces stormed a protest camp outside the Defense Ministry in central Khartoum, said doctors linked to the opposition.

The Transitional Military Council (TMC) that has ruled since Bashir’s overthrow then canceled all agreements reached with the main opposition alliance.

Madani Abbas Madani, a leader of the Declaration of Freedom and Change Forces (DFCF) opposition alliance, said an open-ended civil disobedience campaign would continue to try to force the council from power.

"What happened (on Monday) ‐ the killing and injuring of protesters, the humiliation ‐ was a systematic and planned attempt to impose repression on the Sudanese people," Madani told Rooters.

The main protest organizers, the Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA), called for an international committee to investigate the deaths in what it branded a "massacre".

The mood in the capital Khartoum was very tense on Tuesday, with many roads barricaded by protesters, many shops shut and streets mostly empty. Security forces were trying to clear the barricades, a Rooters witness said.

Rapid Support Forces (RSF) vehicles were patrolling the streets in Omdurman, on the other side of the River Nile from Khartoum, and firing into the air.

The military council has also been under both domestic and international pressure to hand over power to civilians. It had previously agreed to a three-year transition period with the DFCF.

"We believe that the matter is now in the hands of the Sudanese people," said Khalid Omar Yusef, a DFCF leader. "This regime will fall, no matter what."

Alan Dershowitz: Paul Manafort Is Being Transferred to Rikers Island & Solitary Confinement
[FoxNews] The decision to move Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman who was sentenced earlier this year to nearly seven years in prison in connection with two federal cases, from the decent federal prison to which he was sentenced to solitary confinement to the dangerous hell hole that is New York City’s Rikers Island seems abusive and possibly illegal.

I know Rikers well having spent time there visiting numerous defendants accused of murder and other violent crimes. It is a terrible place that no one should ever be sent to.

It should be shut down. It is so bad that defendants often plead guilty, even if they have defensible cases, simply to move to a safer and better prison.

Why then was Manafort moved there? He has already been indicted on multiple state charges for which he cannot, if convicted, be pardoned by President Trump. His state trial is not imminent.

He should be allowed to await that trial in the federal facility to which he was sentenced. He could then be transferred to New York on the eve of his state trial.

The New York authorities appear to acknowledge that he would be unsafe at Rikers, presumably because of his high profile connections to Trump. That is why he will be held in solitary confinement for his own good. But his own good would better be served by leaving him where has already spent time in federal confinement.

Whatever the reason for the transfer, it seems like the selective application of the law for partisan purposes. The tactic of squeezing a potential witness by making his imprisonment unbearably harsh is generally reserved for mafioso, terrorists and other violent criminals who may have evidence against their bosses.

New York District Attorney Cyrus Vance, a decent man, has justified his transfer by invoking the cliché that no one is above the law. But what does that have to do with this decision?

In my experience, defendants serving time in federal prisons for federal crimes who are then indicted for state crimes are not usually transferred to Rikers until the eve of their state trials.

Manafort is being treated differently and more harshly because of his past connections to President Trump and the fear that Trump will exercise his constitutional authority to pardon Manafort.

If that is the reason he is being transferred, it makes no sense. Manafort is already under state indictment. If Trump were to pardon him, he could be immediately arrested and brought to New York, where he would have the right to seek release on bail for the non-violent New York crime of which he is presumed innocent.

It certainly appears as if New York is punishing Manafort for his association with Trump.

Judge T.S. Ellis, who presided over Manafort’s first trial, understood that he was not the real object of the special prosecutor. He was being charged in order to get him to "sing" against the real object of the investigation: namely resident Trump.

Judge Ellis also pointed out the dangers of putting such pressure on a potential witness: sometimes they not only sing, they also "compose."

Perhaps that is the real reason behind the decision to transfer Manafort: the DA hopes that he might be motivated to provide evidence of state crimes for which Trump could be charged.

The law is unclear as to whether a sitting president can be indicted and /or tried for a state, as distinguished from a federal, crime. So when Vance says that no one is above the law, he may be referring to Trump rather than Manafort.

Whatever the reason for the transfer, it seems like the selective application of the law for partisan purposes. The tactic of squeezing a potential witness by making his imprisonment unbearably harsh is generally reserved for mafioso, terrorists and other violent criminals who may have evidence against their bosses.

It is entirely inappropriate in the political context. It is yet another example of the weaponization of the criminal process for partisan advantage.

All civil libertarians, regardless of party affiliation, should be outraged at this abuse. It sets a dangerous precedent that could be used by overzealous prosecutors against any American.

Syrian air defenses intercept, shoot down terrorist drones in Hama
[PRESSTV] Syrian air defense systems have intercepted and shot down a squadron of unmanned aerial vehicles launched by foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants in the country’s western-central province of Hama.

The Arabic service of Russia's Sputnik news agency, citing an unnamed Syrian military source, reported late on Tuesday that Syrian army reconnaissance teams were able to detect a number of aircraft as they were approaching a helipad of a government military site in Jubb Ramlah village, located about 189 kilometers (118 mi) north of the capital Damascus.

Afghanistan
Helmand: 13 Talibs airstruck, peaceful idiots march themselves into being kidnapped

Airstrikes kill 13 Taliban militants in Helmand province

[KhaamaPress] The security forces carried out a series of airstrikes in three districts of Helmand province killing at least 13 Taliban militants.

The military officials said Tuesday that an airstrike killed 5 Taliban fighters and wounded 2 others in Marjah district of Helmand.

In the meantime, an airstrike killed two fighters in Sangin district of Helmand.

A similar airstrike killed 6 Taliban fighters in Nahr-e-Saraj district of the province, the informed military officials said.

The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the airstrikes so far.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in South of Afghanistan.

Taliban Takes 25 Members Of Peace Movement Apparently For Talks
Children’s Crusade redux accomplishes inevitable result:
[ToloNews] At least 25 members of the People’s Peace Movement have been taken by the Taliban probably for talks about issues around the Afghan peace process, one member of the movement confirmed on Sunday.

The 50-member peace convoy began their journey to Taliban-influenced areas in southern Helmand province on Thursday, May 31.

According to one member of the movement, they will meet the Taliban in Musa Qala district – which has been under Taliban influence for the past four years.

Pacha Khan Mawladad, a member of the People’s Peace Movement, says Taliban has taken another 20 members of the movement at around 5pm on Monday. He says this is concerning and that they have no idea whether the Taliban has taken the activists for talks.

The four members who will talk with the Taliban are head of the movement Iqbal Khyber, spokesman of the movement Bismillah Watandost, and two senior members of the movement Ghulam Sarwar Ghafari and Haji Farhad Adil.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said they are not aware of the issue but they will comment on it after their assessments.

Members of the movement on Friday said that they will pass on the message of peace to the Taliban and will take the message of locals to the world.

“It will take six days to reach Musa Qala district and there we will meet with the residents and will listen to them and pass on their message to the world,” said Iqbal Khyber, head of the movement.

“So far, peace message was not delivered to areas under Taliban influence but now we want to do this,” said Ghulam Sarwar Ghafari, a member of the movement.

THE HELMAND PEACE CONVOY
The People’s Peace Movement, also called the Helmand Peace Convoy, initially started their activities when a group of at least a dozen activists staged a protest in Lashkargah City last year in March 2018 against an attack that killed around 16 people that month. About a month later, the activists left Helmand on foot for Kabul.

The activists walked through towns and villages, crossed provinces and met with local residents along the way. For 38 days, they walked and as they progressed, so their numbers grew.

About 700kms later, the group of eight had grown to an estimated 100. They arrived in Kabul on June 18 and handed over demands for a ceasefire and peace to both the Afghan government and the Taliban.

During their stay in Kabul, they held sit-in protests outside diplomatic offices in Kabul. They also met with President Ghani on a Kabul street where they asked him to accelerate the peace efforts.

The activists, whose ages ranged from 17 to 65, came from all walks of life and include students, athletes and farmers among others. It was these and other activists that then extended their walk from Kabul to Balkh.

Nanagarhar: Senior ISIS leader hailing from India killed in Afghanistan airstrike
[KhaamaPress] An Arclight airstrike has killed a big shot of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan.

Hailing from India, Rashid Abdullah was the leader of the Kerala module of ISIS terrorist group.

An unidentified ISIS operative has confirmed the killing of Rashid Abdullah by issuing a message in Telegram application.

The airstrikes also killed two other Indians, two women and four children, according to the message obtained by Times of India.

The airstrike was apparently carried out in eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province of Afghanistan.

This comes as the security situation in some districts of Nangarhar province has tanked during the recent years.

Both Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and ISIS gunnies are active in remote and restive areas of the province.

The anti-government armed elements often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities in Jalalabad city and other parts of Nangarhar.

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie was cracking himself up, but nobody else seemed to be getting the non-stop jokes...
the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against both groups in this province.

The U.S. forces also conduct regular airstrikes in restive districts of Nangarhar to suppress ISIS, Taliban and other anti-government Death Eaters.

#2  Actually, so far 27 men and 9 women from India have been rubbed out in Af, by US and Af forces. With great thanks and blessings from Indians.

Several went to join the IS. All reported having been treated as janitors and masturbatory aids by their 'heroes'. Some even called Ma and Pa back home to beg the foreign office to rescue them when they didn't get the Mad Max adventure they went for.

Rather than report their ignominious existence truthfully, some reveled in servitude, signed their letters to prospective recruits using suffixes like 'Al-Hindi', 'Emir of whatever', etc.

In reality, he was no leader. Just another fool sitting at a terminal and writing messages to recruits, making posters and e-mail threats for the real leaders.

Officer who didn't enter school during shooting massacre is arrested...in Florida
[FoxNews] Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High resource officer Scot Peterson, 56, was arrested Tuesday on charges relating to failure to enter the school during the mass shooting there.

He was charged in Broward County with seven counts of neglect of a child, three counts of culpable negligence and one of perjury after a 15-month investigation, according to a news release from Florida authorities.

The charges carry a combined potential prison sentence of nearly 100 years for the officer blasted by many critics as the "Coward of Broward."

Peterson’s bail was set at $102,000.

Once released, Peterson will be required to wear a GPS monitor and surrender his passport, and will be prohibited from possessing a firearm, the prosecutor said.
He apparently doesn't use them, even when he has them
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) "investigation shows former deputy Peterson did absolutely nothing to mitigate the MSD shooting that killed 17 children, teachers and staff and injured 17 others,” said FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen. “There can be no excuse for his complete inaction and no question that his inaction cost lives.”

Alleged gunman Nikolas Cruz, 20, faces the death penalty if convicted of the first-degree murder charges filed in the attack. His lawyers have said Cruz will plead guilty in return for a life sentence, but prosecutors have refused that offer.

Cruz is expected to go on trial in early 2020.

well, that, 'not doing your job', has been actively promoted by JAG officers in the WOT, by avoiding the requirements of Article 99 of the UCMJ.

And should someone administer baseball bat karma to his nads, well that'd just be too bad. (Not saying I would do it or encourage it. Just wishful thinking)

Sorry for being too obtuse. The JAGs have undermined Art 99 in combat situations. They are big sponsors of do nothing that might bring bad press. They refused to scream that under the Conventions, the enemy using human shields are the ones violating them. You shooting through them at the bad guys is not.

As to officer jerk, the whole process will be expensive. Probably enough to eat up his pension. The process is the punishment.

Britain
Trump supporter pops massive balloon depicting POTUS as baby at UK protests
[FoxNews] A woman popped the massive balloon depicting President Trump as a baby in London on Tuesday, berating protesters for disrespecting the "best president ever."

"That's a disgrace," she told bystanders in a video posted by The Sun newspaper. "The president of the United States is the best president ever." It's unclear what she used to deflate the balloon but she prompted people to yell in response.

"I think Donald Trump's balloon is not very well," she said as she walked away from the scene. "He's going down rapidly for a reason." During the video, an officer appeared to confront her, prompting her to delcare "the police are coming after me."
On this side of the pond that would be destruction of private property, I imagine, because the thing had to belong to someone who was not her. On the other hand, it also is an attractive nuisance, like a swimming pool in which other people’s children can’t resist drowning themselves. Over there it’s probably deployment of an offensive weapon, even if it’s only a hatpin rather than a gun or s knife.

India-Pakistan
Polio vaccination teams told to focus on interpersonal relations
[DAWN] The polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
programme has directed vaccination teams to focus more on interpersonal relations in order to negate the misconception that eradicating polio is a ’foreign agenda’.

In addition, a questionnaire polio vaccination officials must fill out at every house they visit has been simplified so it can be filled in one minute.

"In the past, teams would take 10 minutes to fill the questionnaire. Although the questionnaire will not be filled in just one minute, the teams have been directed to spend 10 minutes at each house and build relationships with the families, ask about their issues and discuss household matters.

"This strategy will be used in the upcoming polio campaign, which will be held in the last week of June, and hopefully we will get better results," Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Babar Bin Atta told Dawn.

He added that many people believe that eradicating polio is part of a foreign agenda, leading them to resist the vaccinations.

Arabia
France’s arms sales to Saudis jumped by 50% in 2018
[PRESSTV] Newly-released figures show that France increased its weapons sales to Saudi Arabia by 50 percent last year despite growing international concern about the atrocities committed in a Saudi-led war on Yemen.

On Tuesday, an annual report by the French government showed that the country sold 1 billion euros’ worth of arms to Saudi Arabia in 2018, with the main item being patrol boats.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its allies — mainly the United Arab Emirates (UAE) — invaded Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing a former Yemeni client regime back to power. The ongoing war has killed tens of thousands and disrupted the lives of millions by causing widespread famine as well as epidemics.

France, the third-biggest arms exporter in the world, is also among the top weapons exporters to Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.

007 James Bond '25' Filming a Perilous Event - Numerous Injuries
[FoxNews] 'Bond 25' on lockdown after three 'huge' explosions on set: report

A Bond source said: "It was utter chaos.

The cursed new James Bond film was placed in total lockdown today after three huge explosions ripped through the set and injured crew.

Staff on the Hollywood flick were left needing medical treatment after a stunt went wrong on the world-famous 007 stage at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

It’s thought one was "seriously hurt" after the explosions, which took part of the roof off and at least five wall panels of the multi-million dollar complex.

The member of staff was left crushed by part of the set which fell on him.

Crew on the film, which has plagued with issues since the beginning of filming, were testing a stunt involving a fireball in a laboratory when the incident took place.

A Bond source said: "It was utter chaos.

"There were three huge explosions and it’s blown part of the Bond stage roof off and some wall panels off the stage. They were supposed to be filming.

"A fireball was supposed to go through the set. That was the stunt but something has gone horribly wrong.

"There were three loud explosions, one after another, and a member of the crew was lying on the floor outside the building injured.

"It went bang, bang, bang. The place is now on total lockdown."

It comes just weeks after Daniel Craig, 51, tweaked ankle ligaments when he slipped over as filming wrapped in Jamaica.

Filming was canceled for over a week as the star recovered from his injury.

The explosion is the latest setback to hit the new movie ‐ Bond’s 25th outing ‐ which has seen repeated claims of crisis and infighting.

#1  ....From the standpoint of a long-time Bond fan (the only one I never saw in the theaters was Doctor No), this one has been kinda snakebit. For some reason, the producers have felt that 007 needed to be retooled (even though the last two movies were amazing hits) and they've been doing, quite frankly, some dumb sh!t in the process. A bit concerned that if 25 isn't a huge, Marvel-level hit that EON Productions might pull the plug.
