The golden asteroid that could make everyone on Earth a billionaire
[RT.com] Whether it was the Big Bang, Midas or God himself, we don’t really need to unlock the mystery of the origins of gold when we’ve already identified an asteroid worth $700 quintillion in precious heavy metals.

If anything launches this metals mining space race, it will be this asteroid--Psyche 16, taking up residence between Mars and Jupiter and carrying around enough heavy metals to net every single person on the planet close to a trillion dollars.

The massive quantities of gold, iron and nickel contained in this asteroid are mind-blowing. The discovery has been made. Now, it’s a question of proving it up.

NASA plans to do just that, beginning in 2022.

Of course, says veteran miner Scott Moore, CEO of EuroSun Mining "The ’Titans of Gold’ now control hundreds of the best-producing properties around the world, but the 4-5 million ounces of gold they bring to the market every year pales in comparison to the conquests available in space."

In the decades to come, if you want to be a gold titan, you’ll have to get your feet off the ground. The real titans will be far from Earth.

Moore should know: He heads up a junior mining company that is seeking a seat at the titan table with the biggest in-development gold mine in Europe.

The 21st-Century Gold Rush

Can we actually extract this space gold? That is the quintillion-dollar question, certainly.

Speaking to Outerplaces, Professor John Zarnecki, president of the Royal Astronomical Society, estimates that it would take around 25 years to get ’proof of concept’, and 50 years to start commercial production.

Of course, it all depends on two key things: Economic feasibility and our advancement of space technology.

And then, we’re not alone, either. There are other world powers who would like to get their hands on that asteroid, as well. China definitively plans to dominate this race.

Mitch Hunter-Scullion, founder of the UK-based Asteroid Mining Company, tells the BBC that this is definitively the next industry "boom".

#3  Meh. When Spain tried something similar after conquering Central and South America, they ended up with severe inflation followed by nationwide poverty when the gold stopped flowing.

On the other hand, if the asteroid contains reasonable amounts of rare earth metals, China will go belly up while technology products boom. I could live with that outcome.

Dutch police make Europe's biggest ever crystal meth seizure, burn 2,500kg of the drug
[RT] Dutch police have made the largest seizure of crystal meth in European history, finding 2,500kg (5,500lbs) in a hidden crawlspace at a warehouse in Rotterdam.

The drugs, with an estimated street value in the hundreds of millions, were discovered last week during a raid on a business premises.

Officers noticed the upper floor of the building was far smaller than it appeared from the outside, and eventually discovered a hidden compartment stuffed with the highly addictive drug, according to a Dutch police press release.

The police wasted no time in incinerating the seized drugs. Meanwhile, the investigation led officers to another warehouse in Utrecht where they discovered 17,500 liters of chemicals used to produce cocaine and other drugs. The inquiry into this extensive drug syndicate is ongoing and police believe the vast trove of crystal meth was destined for export.

Dutch gangs are reportedly increasingly moving into the production of crystal meth, despite its lack of popularity in the Netherlands. So far in 2019, a total of four meth labs have been dismantled by Dutch authorities.

Iraq won't let US strike Iran from its territory
[RT] Baghdad will not allow Washington to use its military bases to launch an attack on Iran, the country's president stressed, thrashing Donald Trump's warmongering policies towards the Islamic Republic.

“We do not want our territory to be a staging post for any hostile action against any of our neighbors, including Iran,” Iraq's President Barham Salih told CNN, noting that there is no agreement between Baghdad and Washington that could make Donald Trump think he can use it as such.

An Air Force veteran accused of being a mercenary was just freed from detention in Libya
[Task&Purpose] Jamie Sponaugle, a 31-year-old mechanic who served on active duty between 2006 and 2013, was captured by the Libyan National Army after his aircraft "went down" near the country's capitol of Tripoli on May 7, several unnamed U.S. government official told the Washington Post.

Sponaugle served as an active-duty airman from November 2006 until April 2013, and he went on to serve in the Air National Guard from December 2013 to February 2017, according to the Air Force Personnel Center.

His Air Force Specialty Code was command and control battle management ops and he left the service as an E-5 staff sergeant. When he left active-duty, he was serving as an airspace technician with 6 Medical Support Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.

He was accused by the LNA, one of the two major political factions currently locked in a civil war for control of the country, of "piloting a Mirage F1, a French-made combat jet, while conducting bombing missions against its forces in the area," according to the Washington Post.

On May 8, the day after Sponaugle's reported downing, LNA claimed it had shot down a Portuguese mercenary "flying a Mirage F1 warplane of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord," the LNA's main political rival.

The Washington Post confirmed that video footage published by an Libyan media outlet that same day showed a bloodied Sponaugle receiving medical treatment and identifying himself as a 29-year-old Portuguese national named "Jimmy Rees."

"It's not clear whether Sponaugle violated U.S. law by working for or fighting with any party in Libya," the Washington Post notes. "Many countries including the United States employ foreign security contractors, who can play a variety of roles and are sometimes armed."
We have the original report of his capture here. That article adds:
Asked what he was doing in Libya, he said: "I was requested to destroy roads and bridges". Asked who sent him, he said it was a civilian contract with someone called Hadi but he did not know his full name.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
US border official resigns amid uproar over migrant children
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The acting head of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has resigned amid an uproar over the discovery of migrant children being held in pitiful conditions at one of the agency’s stations in Texas.

John Sanders’s departure deepened the sense of crisis and added to the rapid turnover inside the agencies responsible for enforcing President Donald Trump’s immigration priorities as the US deals with record numbers of migrant families coming across the southern border.

In a message to employees, Mr Sanders said he would step down on July 5. He did not give a reason for leaving.

Hours after Mr Sanders’s departure became public, two officials told The Associated Press that he was being replaced by Mark Morgan, who was named acting director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement just last month.

In an interview last week, Mr Sanders blamed the problems in detention on a lack of money and called on Congress to pass a 4.5 US billion dollar (£3.55 billion) emergency funding bill to address the crisis.

The House approved the legislation on Tuesday night, setting up a showdown with the Senate where Republican leaders plan approval of a different, bipartisan bill this week that does not offer as many protections and services for migrants.

China-Japan-Koreas
Another way China is ripping us off
[MarketWatch] In the old days, it would have been absolutely essential for the United States to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz‐through which a third of the world’s crude oil passes daily‐remained open. It is less essential now, thanks to the oil shale revolution, which has once again made America an oil giant. We now produce more oil than Saudi Arabia and more than the Russians.

Meantime, China has become not only the biggest consumer of energy in the world, it has become, since 2014, the biggest importer of oil in the world. So why isn’t China‐which has an increasingly powerful blue water navy and can project its might with growing ease‐doing more to protect the flow of oil? Its oil?

So why is the United States doing the heavy lifting in the Persian Gulf? If war breaks out with Iran, it’ll be the U.S. Navy, American men and women in uniform, and the American taxpayer that will bear the burden. Not China‐which needs Mideast oil more than we do.

#2  So why isn’t China—which has an increasingly powerful blue water navy and can project its might with growing ease—doing more to protect the flow of oil? Its oil?

Good question since 20% of the world's oil is going through the Strait of Hormuz and 85% of it is going to Asian markets. It has been estimated that the U.S. has spent about $8 trillion since 1976 to protect crude oil shipments going through the Strait.

Maduro's Ex-Spy Chief Is In Washington And He's Spilling The Beans
[Hot Air] Here’s a surprise twist we didn’t see coming in the Venezuelan implosion saga. There’s a new visitor freshly arrived in Washington with some tales to tell and he probably knows plenty. His name is General Manuel Ricardo Cristopher Figuera and he was about as far into Venezuelan tyrant Nicolas Maduro’s inner circle as you could get. Until recently he ran the country’s highly feared secret police, the SEBIN. Before Maduro took power, Figuera spent a decade as the chief of security for his predecessor, Hugo Chavez. He reportedly studied his craft under communist spymasters in Castro’s Cuba. So this guy was on the inside.

But when Juan Guaido declared himself interim president and attempted to prod the military into revolt, Figuera jumped ship and backed Guaido. After the overthrow failed he went into hiding in Colombia, where he remained until now. But he’s in Washington and he’s ready to talk. (Washington Post)

Figuera is revealing all sorts of details about Maduro’s corrupt gold transfer schemes, the presence of Hezbollah cells in Venezuela, the involvement of the Russians and Cuban military assets in the country.

Afghanistan
Opinion: America's One Big Mistake in Afghanistan - fighting the wrong war
[Military Times] In his June 23, 2019 Military Times opinion article "America’s three big mistakes in Afghanistan," Brig. Gen. Donald C. Bolduc (Ret) correctly noted three factors, which contributed to the pending U.S. defeat in Afghanistan:

Misstep No. 1: The expansion of US forces and the introduction of large conventional units into the vast expanse of Afghanistan;

Misstep No. 2: Allowing the Taliban resurgence to occur in Afghanistan-2003-2009 and 2014-2019;

Misstep No. 3: Our inability to manage, let alone solve, Afghanistan’s illicit narcotics trade."

Yet, none of those three could have been corrected or decisive while ignoring the geopolitical realities upon which an effective strategy is based.

That geopolitical reality is Pakistan, which has never shared the same objectives for Afghanistan as the U.S. and from which American strategic "mistakes" originated, those beyond the self-inflicted wounds of poor management and accountability, well-documented by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.

American military leaders consistently violated the most fundamental of strategic principles, ones taught at every U.S. war college, know your enemy and do not mistake a war for something that is alien to its nature.

The war in Afghanistan is not an insurgency. It is a proxy war being waged by Pakistan against the U.S. and Afghanistan.

For example, Trump got on Turkey case quick for the S-400 thingy. He doesn't mind us buying it. We have a bit of pretension and protectionist tariff thing but that's everyday economics. Every leader has a duty to extract the max good for his own country.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Conflict Looms Between Unstable, Warmongering, Rogue Nation And Iran
[Babylon Bee] WORLD‐A potentially deadly conflict appears to be looming between an unstable, rogue, warmongering nation and Iran.

The nation that seems to be teetering on the brink of war with Iran is the only one on the planet that has nuclear weapons and has used them on civilians. The country has aggressively intervened in foreign conflicts for decades and seems not to respect the sovereignty of any nation.

"We're dealing with a country that sees itself as a kind of world police force," warned one commentator. "They seem to be willing to go to frightening lengths to accomplish their foreign policy objectives, no matter the cost in materials, money, or human lives."

"There's simply no negotiating with a rogue nation like this. When they decide they want war, they'll lie, cheat, and steal until they make it happen."

And ask yourself what the track record for success in any particular war IS, and then note the Consistency of the same war success. And perhaps examine the success and consistency and measure of winning to the country having a war with Iran.
How are Iran's chances compared to the forces arrayed against it?
What is the relative size, professionalism, and technology, of the contenders? Who has the bigger population and the relative number of men on both sides ?ITAN doesn't... Who has the Navy and weapons and military size? Who has the careers to be made and the opportunities for advancement ? Iran has just enjoyed a RECENT WAR and they had LOTS of casualties. Clint Eastwood will film new movie in Georgia despite Hollywood outrage over the abortion law
[MAIL] While major Hollywood studios consider boycotting Georgia over a controversial new abortion law, Clint Eastwood will produce and direct a movie in the Peach State about the bombing of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

The 89-year-old Dirty Harry legend is in line to oversee production of The Ballad of Richard Jewell.

The filming of the movie is scheduled to begin sometime this summer, according to WXIA-TV.

Jewell worked as a security guard at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park at the time of the July 27 bombing, which killed one person, injured more than 100 and marred the 1996 Olympics.

Jewell was at first praised because he discovered a suspicious knapsack that contained the pipe bomb and helped evacuate people from the park. But he was later named as a chief suspect by the FBI on grounds that he may have acted as a lone bomber.

Jewell, who sued some media outlets for defamation after he was cleared, worked as a law enforcement officer after the episode.

Eric Robert Rudolph pleaded guilty to the bombing in 2005 and is serving life in prison for it and other attacks.

Jewell, who had diabetes and kidney ailments, died in August 2007. He was 44 years old.

The actors who are scheduled to star in the movie include Kathy Bates, Olivia Wilde, Jon Hamm, and Sam Rockwell.

Unlike some of his colleagues in the industry, Eastwood does not appear to be signing on to a Hollywood boycott of Georgia.

Eastwood, a registered Republican who considers himself libertarian, has not been shy about making his political views known. In 2012, he endorsed Mitt Romney in his failed bid to defeat the incumbent, then-President Barack Obama.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Meet the 101-Year-Old Preservationist Saving Agricultural History
[Gun & Garden] Mary Lib Winstead sits in the living room of the Merritt-Winstead House, where she was born in 1918. The windows are cracked against the stifling heat of a Roxboro, North Carolina, summer‐the house never had central air installed, but that doesn’t seem to bother Winstead as she describes her lifelong love of restoration. In the carport, her 1980 GMC Caballero even sports a supportive bumper sticker: "Historic Preservation Is the Ultimate Recycling."

For almost half her life, Winstead has worked to save historic buildings in Person County, just south of the Virginia border‐an especially impressive feat considering she is now 101 years old, and just last fall finished her most involved project yet: an early-nineteenth-century farmhouse that looks as though it were plucked from the streets of colonial Williamsburg.

Winstead’s mission to preserve the Roxboro area’s architectural history began with her own family home, a colonial revival that her father, the town doctor, built in 1915. She and her late husband, Wharton, raised their four children there, making careful updates and cultivating lush gardens that landed the estate on the National Register of Historic Places. She began renovating in earnest, though, in the early 1970s, when she fixed up a log cabin for her oldest son to live in. There were many such structures on her family’s tobacco farms‐cabins, clapboard homes, barns abandoned when the industry waned.

"It’s about the history of our area," Winstead says of her ardor for reviving them. "It’s fascinating to hear the stories that come with the homes." The oldest one, for instance, an early-1800s weatherboard house, belonged to a tobacco factory owner‐she also won it a National Register spot. "They built them so well back then," she says. "They did it right." Winstead wanted to do it right, too: She did much of the work herself over the years, faux-wood-graining doors, marbleizing mantels, and hunting period furniture.

Chicago restaurant employee spits in Eric Trump's face
[Breitbart] According to sources familiar with the matter, Eric Trump had, with a group of people, come into Aviary, an upscale lounge in Chicago, and the young woman‐an employee of the establishment‐came right up to him and spit in his face. Per an eyewitness, she murmured inaudibly something that sounded like it was anti-Trump. Then Secret Service agents who were there protecting Eric Trump jumped into action and took the woman into custody. She was put in handcuffs and placed in a police paddy wagon, a source with knowledge said. Eric Trump decided not to press charges against the woman in the end, and she was released from police custody.

recruiter under the code name "Umm Nutella," who agreed to cooperate with the prosecutors but then divulged her deal to Lions of Islam while out on bail, could be sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday.

Sinmyah Amera Ceasar, who has used that pseudonym, has pleaded guilty to two federal charges for her efforts to aid Islamic State and other Death Eater groups, according to papers filed in federal court in Brooklyn.

"The defendant's conduct is deeply troubling," U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue said in court papers.

Donoghue laid out a cloak-and-dagger saga that began with Ceasar's arrest 2-1/2 years ago as he asked a judge to deny bail in a letter unsealed on Monday and dated Feb. 6.

Ceasar was taken into custody in November 2016 at Kennedy International Airport as she tried to leave the United States. She confessed to using Facebook and other platforms to connect people with Islamic State members who would help them travel to territory controlled by the group, Donoghue said.

She pleaded guilty to related charges in February 2017 under a cooperation agreement and was released on bail in April 2018, he said.

Her bail was revoked the following July after prosecutors learned that she had contacted numerous people, including those she had previously told federal agents were supporters of ISIS or other Lions of Islam groups, he said.

"The fbi put me under a different name because they wanted my case too be sealed," she told a Taliban

-supporting associate in the United States in a Facebook exchange, prosecutors said in court papers. "How the heck we know i was going to arrested out fo no where."

In an April 15 letter to the woman's lawyers, which was also just unsealed, Donoghue said the government estimated the sentencing guidelines for her crimes to be 30 years to life. The letter also revealed that the woman had pleaded guilty to a second unspecified charge or charges on March 7.

Labour MP risks fresh anti-Semitism storm by inviting top figure from Houthi movement to Parliament
[THESUN.CO.UK] A LABOUR MP has risked a fresh antisemitism storm by inviting to Parliament a leading figure from the Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
movement who’s slogan includes "curse the Jews".

Brighton MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle is hosting Ahmed Alshami at a Stop the War Coalition meeting in the Commons on Tuesday.

Mr Alshami plays a prominent role as an international front man and an economist for the Houthis, which is locked in a bitter civil with the Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
government.

He is executive director of the Arabian Rights Watch Association, which critics claim is a PR front for the movement.

The Iran-backed Houthis’ slogan is, "God is great, death to the US, death to Israel, curse the Jews, and victory for Islam".

British military advisors are part of an international coalition lead by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
battling the Houthis in Yemen’s bitter civil war.

Mr Russell-Moyle’s invitation comes despite a plea to him from the Yemeni Embassy in London not to host a "militia" member.

Independent MP John Woodcock, who resigned from Labour last year in protest at the party’s antisemitism troubles dubbed it "staggering that a Labour MP is welcoming this virulently antisemitic terror group into parliament".

Mr Woodcock added: "Time and again, Corbyn and his allies welcome in Jew haters and side with the Death Eater enemies of the UK.

"The decent MPs left in the Labour Party need to stop this event from happening on Tuesday."

Mr Woodcock also drew parallels over the event to hard left Labour leader Mr Corbyn’s notorious invitation to the Commons for Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams just days about the Brighton bomb.

Iran’s air defense missiles must be taken seriously, experts say
[IsraelTimes] Tehran’s downing of a sophisticated US drone – albeit a large, slow one – shows it knows how to use its missile systems, though it still lags far behind US capabilities.

According to the Military Balance — an annual publication by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) — Iran has 32 batteries of Russian-made S-300 ground-to-air missiles that have been delivered by Moscow since 2016. They are seen as posing a serious threat.

The Islamic Republic has also developed Iranian versions of these missile systems, including the Bavar 373, SAM Tabas and SAM Raad which are regularly displayed at military parades.

The Revolutionary Guards claim that they shot down the US drone with a Khordad 3 missile, a version of the SAM Raad.

Suspected WWII bomb blasts crater in German field
[DAWN] A bomb likely dating to World War II went kaboom! in a field in western Germany leaving a huge crater but no injuries, police said on Monday.

The explosion left a 10-metre (33 feet) wide and four-metre deep hole after residents in Limburg heard a loud noise and felt the earth shake on Sunday morning.

"The crater was examined on Monday by an explosive ordnance clearance service to find possible fragments," a police front man said.

"The area was used for target practice during the Second World War," he added.

A bomb disposal service front man said it was "highly possible" WWII ordnance was involved. A local government front man in the nearby city of Darmstadt told German daily Bild it was believed the bomb had a chemical-based delayed timer which could have finally eroded.

Lahore court grants bail to two Chinese men held for human trafficking
[DAWN] A Lahore sessions court on Tuesday accepted the bail applications of two Chinese men who the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) alleged were involved in human trafficking and using their wives for prostitution.
"The check cleared"
The court delivered its verdict following the testimony of the men's wives. According to the women, they had married their husbands lawfully and wished to continue living with them.

"The FIA's case is not based on facts," one of the wives told the court.

The FIA prosecutor, on the other hand, said that the two men were involved in using their Pak wives for prostitution in China and that they would flee the country if given bail.

After hearing the arguments, the court ruled in favour of bail.

FIA has over the past two months arrested scores of Chinese nationals and their suspected local abettors from various parts of the country in connection with its investigation into a transnational gang allegedly involved in contracting fake marriages between Chinese men and Pak women, who are later forced into prostitution and the illegal organ trade.

The Foreign Office has backed the Chinese government's stance on the matter and said that Beijing has offered Islamabad "all possible cooperation" in the matter.

Led by their Sukhoi jets, the Russian Air Force reportedly pounded the jihadist stronghold of Kabani, which is located just west of the Idlib Governorate and al-Ghaab Plain.

Previously, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had repeatedly stormed Kabani in an attempt to capture the mountaintop town from the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

Indian police arrest 11 for torturing Muslim man to death
[DAWN] Indian police arrested 11 people on Tuesday over the killing of a Moslem man who was tortured and forced to chant Hindu slogans in the latest mob violence to shock the nation.

Two coppers have also been suspended over the handling of the lynching of Tabrez Ansari, captured on a video that went viral on Indian social media.

The 24-year-old is seen in the video crying and pleading as a mob in Jharkhand state forces him to chant "Jai Sri Ram" (hail Lord Ram), a slogan widely used by Hindu hardliners.

Ansari had been accused by villagers of carrying out a burglary. He was tied to a pole and beaten for up to 12 hours before police first detained him in Seraikela, and then took him to hospital ‐ where he died on Saturday.

"We have arrested 11 people. Two police have also been suspended because they failed to inform seniors about the case and tried to manage it at their level," Seraikela police chief Karthik S. told AFP.

Media reports said Ansari's wife has accused police of deliberately taking him to jail first ‐ instead of a hospital ‐ despite the critical injuries he suffered.

News of the death emerged as the Indian government rejected a US State Department report that said religious violence against minorities has spiked under the right-wing Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The US religious freedom report said there had been growing numbers of attacks by groups claiming to protect cows ‐ considered sacred by Hindus ‐ on Moslems and low-caste Dalits since 2014 when Modi came to power.

Opponents in India have also accused the government of not doing enough to stop lynchings.

Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi condemned the killing however, and said the government would not let a "destructive agenda" dominate India's development efforts.

#2  It's Jharkhand, hinterland India. And these are the lowest common denominator. Newly 'empowered' road shitters and wife beating toddy drinkers indulging in hate crime.

As Gandhi himself said once, the hindu is a coward, the muslim a bully.

Neither are civilized or evolved enough to survive their fates. If these men had any courage they would lynch the jocks and hoodlums who daily molest their children, catcalling and rushing women on the street when no one's looking. They're brave only when they outnumber the muslim.

They beat down the lone muslim just for kicks. They burn christian missionaries and rape nuns to preserve status quo so that the poor cannot escape the caste system into another faith. Police and courts do not see it as a major problem, and it really isn't. Not as big as when a group of muslims goes on a rampage. That can bring a city to its knees. What is glaringly self damaging is the video. Fucking fools.

Now who will explain to these illiterate fucks where in the world Christchurch is and what happens when you televise this shit.

Iraq’s oil exports reach 110 million barrels in May: ministry
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ The Iraqi Oil Ministry said on Tuesday that it exported more than 110 million barrels of crude oil in May, bringing in revenues of over $7 billion.

"Iraq’s total exports of crude oil in May reached about 110,737,293 barrels, bringing in revenues of 7.2 billion dollars," Iraqi website Alghad Press quoted the ministry front man, Asim Jihad, as saying in a press statement.

The average selling price was 66.190 dollars per barrel last month, the statement said.

"Iraq exported 106.6 million barrels from the country’s central and southern oil fields, and 3.16 million barrels from the northern province of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
in addition to 894,528 barrels of oil from Qayyara oil field," it added.

Iraq, the second-largest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, exported 3.466 million barrels per day (bpd) in April.

Iraq is producing below its maximum capacity of nearly 5 million bpd in line with a production-cutting agreement between OPEC and allies such as Russia aimed at supporting prices.

[ELUNIVERSAL] The president of the National Assembly (AN), Juan Guaidó
...President of Venezuela's National Assembly, recognized as president of the nation by countries other than Russia, China, Cuba, and kindred beacons of personal liberty...

Egypt's Ministry of Interior foils Muslim Brotherhood plan to disrupt national economy
[AlAhram] The ministry identified and arrested a number of people involved with 19 illegal companies and economic entities involved in the plot.

Egypt's Ministry of Interior issued a statement on Tuesday revealing that it has foiled a plot orchestrated by leaders of the Moslem Brüderbund, along with other elements, attempting to disrupt the country's national economy.

The ministry's statement confirmed it has arrested a number of people who are involved with 19 different illegal companies and economic entities affiliated with the MB's leadership and cadres.

The ministry said it arrested Mostafa Abdel-Moez Abdel-Sattar, Osama Abdel-Aal El-Akabawy, Ahmed Abdel-Geliel El-Ghanam, Omar Mohammed El-Shiniety, Hossam Moenes Saad, Hesham Fouad Abdel-Aleem and Hassan Mohammed Hassan and Ziad El-Aleimy, a former parliament member in the 2012 People's Assembly.
Mr.El-Aleimy was a member of the secular Egyptian Social Democratic Party, one of the main protest groups in the 2011 uprising that drove out Hosni Mubarak. But it also opposed Mohammed Morsi’s democratically elected Muslim Brotherhood government...
Among those arrested are an aide to sitting MP Ahmed Tantawy and other employees of his office. They are all currently under investigation.

The ministry said it has seized organizational documents and electronic devices. The total financial transactions of the involved entities amount to EGP 250 million ($15 million).

According to the statement, the scheme was mainly focused on building paths of illegal cash flow from abroad. This falls in line with the MB, runaway forces, and other enemies of the state financing acts of violence and rebellions against state institutions. The ministry also announced that is has uncovered a hostile scheme dubbed "Plan of Hope," which was organised by runaway MB leaders in coordination with those who claim to represent civil political forces.

The ministry said that Egypt's High State Security Prosecution will carry out investigations in the case.

An informed source told Ahram Online that the MB is trying to regain a foothold on the ground as an attempt to disrupt Egypt's stability, as well as that of the Arab region. The source noted that this comes with the involvement of MB members and former MP Ziad El-Aleimy, in cooperation with other civil political powers.

"The MB terrorist organization's finances are being used by countries that support terrorism in order to infiltrate Egypt's economy and create a state of chaos with the cooperation of civil political forces and a current member of parliament," the source added.

Guaidó complaint of arrest of seven Venezuelan military and police
[ELUNIVERSAL] The opposition leader Juan Guaidó
...President of Venezuela's National Assembly, recognized as president of the nation by countries other than Russia, China, Cuba, and kindred beacons of personal liberty...
denounced on Tuesday the detention of five Venezuelan soldiers and two coppers, including a general, by intelligence agents, and said his whereabouts are unknown.

"Today it is a duty for us to denounce the forced disappearance" of a general, two colonels, a corvette captain and a lieutenant of the Armed Forces, said the head of Parliament, recognized as president in charge of Venezuela by fifty countries.

During a legislative debate that denounced the "persecution" against the disgruntled uniforms with the Government of Nicolás Maduro, Guaidó also referred to the "disappearance" of two commissioners of the scientific police (Cicpc), known over the weekend, AFP reported.

The military were arrested last Friday after participating in a meeting, said deputies who say that they are captors of military counterintelligence agents, although relatives point to the intelligence service.

Guaidó did not detail the reasons for the captures, although he indicated that these cases show that "there are officials willing to side with the Constitution" and not Maduro, whom he calls a "usurper" of power.

The congressmen who took part in the debate criticized that the arrests took place in the middle of the visit of the high commissioner of the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
(UN) for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, who asked for the release of imprisoned opponents before leaving on Friday.

The opponent, who tries to break the military support to the Government for five months, called once again the Armed Forces to break with Maduro, whom he blames for the worst economic crisis in the oil country in its recent history.

[NYPOST] Apparently stung by the Iranian president’s barb that his White House was "mentally retarded," an angry President Trump on Tuesday again threatened the country with "obliteration."

"Iran’s very ignorant and insulting statement, put out today, only shows that they do not understand reality. Any attack by Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
on anything American will be met with great and overwhelming force. In some areas, overwhelming will mean obliteration. No more John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
& Obama!" the commander-in-chief wrote, referring to two of the architects of the Iranian nuke deal that he pulled the US out of.

In a televised address earlier Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said sanctions against the country’s leaders were meaningless because the holy man had no assets abroad, before insulting Team Trump.

"The White House actions mean it is mentally retarded. Tehran’s strategic patience does not mean we have fear," a defiant Rouhani said.

Trump, in another of a series of tweets slamming the Islamic Theocratic Republic, asserted that Iran’s leaders don’t know the meaning of the word "nice."

"Iran leadership doesn’t understand the words ’nice’ or ’compassion,’ they never have. Sadly, the thing they do understand is Strength and Power, and the USA is by far the most powerful Military Force in the world, with 1.5 Trillion Dollars invested over the last two years alone," he boasted.

He then blamed Iran’s leadership for betraying their own citizens, who are suffering as a result of tough US sanctions that Trump has slapped on the regime, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"The wonderful Iranian people are suffering, and for no reason at all. Their leadership spends all of its money on Terror, and little on anything else. The US has not forgotten Iran’s use of IED’s & EFP’s (bombs), which killed 2000 Americans, and maimed many more," Trump continued.

Yemeni Speaker to Asharq Al-Awsat: Betting on Houthis Changing is False Hope
[AAWSAT] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
i parliament Speaker Sultan al-Burkani voiced his fears of the conflict ailing his country being removed from the international community’s memory as the threat of an Iran-US war occupies the highest political echelons worldwide.

"Certainly, any tension in the region affects the future of Yemen, and we are afraid to reach a stage of forgetting the issue of Yemen in light of the international community's concern for what is to come," he told Asharq al-Awsat.

Burkani reaffirmed national resolve in Yemen towards defeating Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
coupists and reinstating power to the freely-elected authorities.

He also blamed the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
special envoy Martin Griffiths for the ongoing stalemate in Yemeni peace talks and called on all involved parties to undertake decisive measures to hold the Houthis accountable for their violations of the UN-brokered deal signed in Sweden last December.

"We must not forget that the political solution led by the UN through its envoy has not achieved anything significant. We hope for the crisis to remain present and strong at international forums, because our people need to end this war and reach peace and restore the state to security and stability and overthrow of the coup," Burkani stressed.

Popularly known as the Hodeidah agreement, the deal was signed in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, and represents a first step towards brokering a comprehensive political solution.

Speaking about Iranian efforts to destabilize Yemen by funding and arming Houthi krazed killers, Burkani remarked: "Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. 80 days in, Haftar's forces struggle to keep grip on last positions in southern Tripoli
[Libya Observer] 80 days have passed since Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Central zone forces said they had also controlled a supply line for Haftar's forces after they had seized the road between al-Jufra and western region so the supplies cannot reach Gharyan and Tarhouna.

Saudi Special Forces capture emir of ISIS in Yemen
To clarify: is this emir the biggest of big turbans in all Yemen, or is he just a local patrol leader?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Arab Coalition said that Saudi Special Forces have captured Abu Osama al-Muhajir, the emir of ISIS in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
A statement on the Saudi Press Agency said al- Muhajir, as well as other members of the Death Eater group, were captured on June 3.

Weapons, ammunition, and telecommunication devices were also seized during the operation.

Col. Turki al-Maliki, the official front man of the Arab Coalition, said the joint operation took place on June 3 at 9:20 am local time.

"‏A house kept under close surveillance proved the presence of the terror group’s leader, and other elements, along with three women and three children," al-Maliki said.

"‏By fully identifying and understanding their daily routines in the area through monitoring and surveillance, the operation was successful in capturing the terrorists, and ensuring the safety of the women and kiddies inside the house," he added.

According to a statement, the entire operation lasted for ten minutes; including the raid, arrest of the terrorists, and the confiscation of possessions.
That’s absolutely amazing! Surely neither the SEALS nor Mossad nor Spetznatz could accomplish such a thing so very quickly.
Update from Iraqi News at 5:10 p.m. EDT:
“The terrorist, who is known as Abu Osama al-Muhajer, was arrested along with some of his allies, including the group’s financial officer," Maliki added.

in a tweet on Tuesday.

"Wanna know why those with proven record of detesting diplomacy are suddenly interested in talks? Just read @AmbJohnBolton’s 2017 recipe for destroying the #JCPOA," Zarif wrote, adding a link to a 2017 article written by Bolton in the National Review. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA, is the landmark 2015 nuclear deal Iran signed with world powers.

"Iran never left the negotiation table. #B_Team dragged the US out, while plotting for war," Zarif added.

Zarif has in the past said that a "B-team" including Bolton, an ardent Iran hawk, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, could goad Trump into a conflict with Tehran.

Terrorist Hisham El-Ashmawy being retried in five cases for supporting, carrying out attacks
[AlAhram] Egypt said that dangerous terrorist Hesham El-Ashmawy, who was handed over to Egyptian authorities last month, is currently being tried in five cases where he had previously received sentences in absentia, according to informed sources.

El-Ashmawy faces charges of carrying out terrorist operations against the army, police forces and civilians.

According to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, El-Ashmawy is being retried under the criminal procedure law, which stipulates that he must be retried before a military court.

Last May, Egypt secured the transfer of El-Ashmawy from his detention in Libya back to Egypt, with the highly secured transfer operation executed by various Egyptian special forces branches.

El-Ashmawy was captured by the LNA in October 2018 in Libya’s Eastern city of Derna as the forces liberated the city.

El-Ashmawy, who was Egypt’s top wanted terrorist over the past six years, was born in 1978 and graduated in 2000 from the military academy. In 2007, a military court transferred El-Ashmawy to an administrative post before his dismissal from the army in 2011.

He later joined the North Sinai-based Ansar Beit al-Maqdis terrorist group.
Later in Derna he broke away from Ansar Beit al-Maqdis after the group swore allegiance to ISIS, and formed the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Mourabitoun.
El-Ashmawy, also known as Abu Omar El-Mohager (the immigrant), is considered one of the most dangerous bully boyz linked to attacks in Egypt.

El-Ashmawy is believed to have been involved in an liquidation attempt on former Egyptian Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim, the murder of top prosecutor Hisham Barakat, as well as the attack on Egyptian border guards in February 2015, which resulted in the death of 29 Armed Forces personnel.

He is also believed to be behind a deadly attack on Christian pilgrims in Upper Egypt's Minya governorate in May 2017, which killed 29 people.

In January 2015, his group was suspected of staging a multi-pronged attack on the headquarters of the Army Battalion 101 Headquarters in El-Arish in North Sinai, which killed 30 soldiers and officers.

An Egyptian military court sentenced him in absentia, along with 13 other terrorists, to death over the New Valley massacre in Farafra on 19 July 2014, where 22 border guards were killed.

Libyan National Forces Alliance proposes ceasefire, political dialogue initiative
[Libya Observer] The Libyan National Forces Alliance (NFA), along with several Libyan stakeholders, has proposed an initiative that aims at ending the fighting in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and calls for returning to the political process.

Chairman of the NFA, Mahmoud Jibril, said in a statement Tuesday that the initiative aims at limiting the perils caused by the continuous fighting in the country, especially in Tripoli, saying any ceasefire must be accompanied by an all-party political process.

"The first stage of the initiative is to urge Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. Guess you can't win them all...
's forces to create a safe zone that allows humanitarian corridors to deliver assistance to the trapped people in fighting areas. This zone could remain active for a month or more, during which the initiative will aim at calling for forming a joint force from the Presidential Council's government forces and Haftar's ones of 10.000 fighters." Jibril said.

He added that the joint force, if agreed on, will be under an independent civilian authority in coordination with US Africa Command's (AFRICOM) forces and the Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an Union to fight terrorism and illegal migration.

The initiative also would urge for prisoners exchange and an end for media provocative campaigns, let alone making neutral the financial and monetary institutions in Libya by forming a committee in cooperation with the international community to monitor government expenditure, investments of Libya and Libyan assets.

"The second stage calls for holding conferences to consolidate the ceasefire and pave the way for a political solution. House of Representatives, High Council of State, and other political parties and entities should attend the first conference to devise a roadmap that tackles the constitution's draft and elections' vision." Jibril explained.

"The second conference will be social and economic to discuss the wealth distribution in Libya and the national reconciliation efforts." He added.

He also indicated that the third conference will be focusing on building the Libyan national army and security institutions and merging the armed factions in the regular armed forces.

"The initiative's results must be included in a document to be discussed at the Libyan National Conference under the UN auspices. The influential countries should support the results of the UN-backed conference, if convened." The initiative says.

NFA party and his chief were bitterly criticized for not condemning the attack on Tripoli by Haftar's forces, given their documented backup for Haftar in his operations in Benghazi, Ajdabiya and Derna.

NFA has also seen many resignations due to the stance of the party toward the war on Tripoli.

"The Anbar Command for the Popular Gathering (Brigade 19) carried out a security operation to secure the 120km long border with Syria," the official media wing of Hashd al-Sha’abi said on Monday.

The statement added that Hashd al-Sha’abi heavily targeted the Wadi Suwab, Suwayb, and Albu Khalifah areas in Iraq’s al-Anbar Governorate.

UK begins using new F-35 stealth fighters in Syria and Iraq
[ALMASDARNEWS] The United Kingdom has deployed its F-35 stealth fighter jets to the Middle East as the Royal Air Force continues its operations against the Islamic State

Citing Defense Secretary Penny Mordaunt, Britannia’s ITV reported that the latter visited Royal Air Force’s base in Cyprus, where RAF pilots are training with six of their F-35 jets.

"I am very proud that these are now flying in defense and in projecting the UK’s national interest," Mordaunt began. "This is a fantastic new aircraft, it is amazing, it’s doing so well out here on these operations... it’s a really historic moment."

"It obviously has some incredible capabilities which are really putting us in the lead," she continued.

The jets were deployed to Cyprus, where British Eurofighter Typhoons are also stationed, on Exercise Lightning Dawn, the first overseas deployment for the RAF F-35s which was designed to allow pilots and engineers to gain experience in maintaining and flying the aircraft in an unfamiliar environment.

In the past four weeks, the jets have flown in pairs for more than 225 hours, just over 30% of their total flying hours in the last year, and carried out 95 missions before joining Operation Shader, the name given to the UK’s contribution in the ongoing military action against IS.

Junk food irreversibly damages sperm by the time you’re 20: Harvard study
[NYPOST] Pizza, candy, chips and other processed, high-fat food can cause permanent damage to sperm, according to a new study from Harvard University.

The researchers studied nearly 3,000 men ages 18 to 20 and found that vegetarians and those with diets rich in fruit, veggies, chicken and fish had higher sperm counts than those on a "Western diet" of processed meats and junk food. The results will be presented this week at the annual Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology conference in Vienna.

"It’s almost certain that this is down to an effect that those with the better diets are taking in more antioxidants," fertility expert professor Allan Pacey of Sheffield University tells The Independent. "With pizza, chips and red meat we know that the oxidative stress goes up and that is bad for sperm."

Harvard researchers expect the news to hit the male ego where it hurts.

Lead study author Jorge Chavarro tells the UK’s Telegraph, "You would be surprised to see how sensitive young men are to things that might affect sperm count, because it’s a perceived measure of masculinity."

The World Health Organization considers a normal sperm count to contain 39 million or more sperm per ejaculate. Study subjects who ate a Western diet were found to have 25.6 million fewer sperm per instance than the subjects with the best eating habits.

The researchers believe that processed foods damage the health of sperm-producing cells, or Sertoli cells. And though eating better can improve sperm health over time, Sertoli cells cannot be recovered ‐ meaning, even if you eat better later in life, bad habits early on can do irrevocable damage to sperm production.

Male infertility has skyrocketed over the last 15 years, according to one 2018 study, which reported dwindling sperm samples from the US and Spain.

Pakistan’s FM plays down alleged persecution of Christians
[PRESSTV] Pak Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi has played down accusations of the persecution of Christians in Pakistain, saying there are "individual incidents," which can be compared to the growing number of knife crimes in the United Kingdom.

Speaking at EU headquarters in Brussels on Tuesday, Qureshi said reports of religious minorities being targeted in Pakistain did not constitute a trend.

"You can’t say this is a trend, no! Individual incidents can be quoted anywhere, [of] minorities being mistreated here, in Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
, in Britannia," The Guardian quoted the top Pak diplomat as saying.

"But I can assure you that Christians are very welcome [in Pakistain]. The Christian community in Pakistain is very positive and a very responsible community... We respect them and we want them to be there. We will do everything possible to protect them and we are," he said.

The bigwig went on to say that the recent claims of persecution were an instance of "Western interests," which "want to paint Pakistain in a particular way."

Qureshi, who met Jeremy Hunt, the British foreign secretary, in London last week, pointed to the UK’s own problems after the fatal stabbings of four people in four days put London’s knife crimes in the international spotlight last week.

"I can quote you examples of how knife crime has gone up in Britannia that is a clear reflection of an increased intolerance within a society which has been so tolerant, so accommodating. So there are examples over here, and there could be some examples over there," Qureshi said.

According to police data, a total of 40,829 attacks involving knives or sharp instruments took place in the United Kingdom in 2018. But there has been no data attaching those attacks to religion.

Zeihan: The American Retreat, Part I: Oil
[Zeihan mail list]

In a pair of posts U.S. President Donald Trump asserted:

Diction and statistical issues aside, these tweets comprise the 92 most important words used by anyone in the past three decades. Trump just made clear the days of America protecting global shipping – particularly of oil shipping in the Middle East – are over.
Or at least about to be seriously renegotiated: “This is what is costs us us to keep the world safe; what will you do to compensate us? We will no longer do it for free.”
There is an easy argument to be made that the United States’ shale revolution will make the United States a net exporter of crude oil in the current calendar year, but to understand just how critical that is for the Americans we must first pick apart just how horrible that is for everyone else.
Head to the link to read!
End result? Today’s oil markets comprise the greatest concentration of risk in the most critical economic sector at the most vulnerable part of the global system and no one can do anything about it if the Americans leave.

And that’s just the beginning.
Oil is not the only thing being shipped around the world. A goodly portion is either raw materials and finished goods being shipped to American customers or raw materials and finished goods being shipped from American suppliers. So the American Navy will not completely get out of the business of patrolling the sea lanes.

#1  As counterintuitive as it sounds, we need more carbon-heavy fuels to get to a lighter-carbon world. And that means coal and oil. A lot of oil.

So fossil fuels are important? Somebody should send this article to AOC. And Gov. Newsom.

True, but I think Zeihan's point is that the security of the Persian Gulf -- not world shipping in general -- will be a subject of American choice.

And actually, if Zeihan is correct on the effects of increased risks of oil supplies to the world economy, then even the protection of world shipping could decrease and become a matter of choice to America as the volume and "range" of that shipping decline.

Certainly, economics is not the only factor here.

We don't want to leave a vacuum that the Chinese might fill, for example.

But if Zeihan is right, then our options will be greater and better.

Hezbollah operating in Venezuela, Maduro’s ex-security chief says
[IsraelTimes] Former chief of regime’s notorious SEBIN security police accuses president of heading ‘criminal enterprise’.

The feared former head of Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro’s intelligence police has charged that the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah operates in the Latin American country with the protection of the government.

Gen. Manuel Ricardo Cristopher Figuera, who fled his homeland for Colombia and then the US after the failed April 30 uprising in the country, has been passing some of the Maduro regime’s most closely held secrets to American officials.

In an interview with the Washington Post published Monday, he spoke of his disenchantment with the government he had once worked to protect.

“I never saw the country’s situation and the government’s corruption as closely as I did during my last six months,” he said, the period when he ran the notorious SEBIN, or Bolivarian Intelligence Service, the regime’s political security arm.

“I quickly realized that Maduro is the head of a criminal enterprise, with his own family involved,” Figuera said.

Among the abuses: family members linked to the regime using their influence to buy and sell gold to the state for huge profits; support for terror groups like the Colombian ELN; and the deep influence that Cuba’s Raoul Castro has over Maduro, both personally and through Cuban guards and advisers who surround the Venezuelan president.

And, Figuera added, he had seen intelligence reports that say the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah was operating in the capital Caracas, in nearby Maracay, and in the offshore island region of Nueva Esparta with the blessing of the Maduro government. The presence is “apparently geared toward illicit business activity to help fund operations in the Middle East,” the Post reported.

Hezbollah has long been believed by Western intelligence agencies to be playing a significant role in the South American drug trade in order to help finance its military buildup in Lebanon and its infrastructure around the world, but Figuera’s comments, cited only in brief in the Post interview, may be the highest-level admission about such activities from a former top official of a regime that supports the group.

A report earlier this month by Israeli researchers said Hezbollah personnel act as middlemen in the global drug route from South America to West Africa and from there to Europe, helping to move hundreds of tons of cocaine and other drugs through ports in Belgium and Germany — with only 5-10 percent of it being intercepted by law enforcement.

Figuera was one of a handful of Venezuelan officials placed under US sanctions for his role as head of a security service notorious for torture and the inhumane treatment meted out to political prisoners.

A former head of security for Maduro’s mentor, former president Hugo Chavez, Figuera was thought to be one of the regime’s true believers.

But his role in its excesses has led to profound regret, he said.

SEBIN’s “Tomb,” the prison for political prisoners under its Caracas headquarters, has long been accused of inhumane conditions that led to prisoner deaths and suicides — conditions meant to coerce confessions for political crimes.

“Look, if there’s something I regret it’s that I didn’t free all the prisoners. Because there’s a lot of people there who are kidnapped and who are there unfairly. And I owe those people, you know?”

He added: “At one point I thought I was going to be able to bring Maduro to his senses. There are people there who have cancer. There’s a woman there with special issues. There are people who have nothing to do and no reason to be there. I believe I could have done more. Those people are not a threat to the country.”

Syrian Army reinforcements pour into northwestern Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has continued its military buildup in northwestern Hama, as more reinforcements continue to pour into this area.

According to a report from this front, reinforcements from the Syrian Army and National Defense Forces (NDF) were deployed to the Kafr Naboudeh axis, where they will take part in a new assault against the jihadist rebels.

While the Syrian Army has been able to secure the northern axis of Kafr Naboudeh, the eastern part of the town is still susceptible to jihadist attacks from the nearby hilltop of Tal Sakher.

At the same time, the Syrian Army and local NDF units are still struggling to retake the key hilltop of Tal Malah, which is preventing them from reopening the Mhardeh-Sqaylabiyeh Road.

The Syrian Army’s operation east of Kafr Naboudeh will likely remain on hold until they can retake Tal Malah and nearby Jibeen.

Countries pledge $110 million for UN Palestinian agency
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] More than $110 million was raised Tuesday at a pledging conference to support the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees UNRWA, which has been struggling since the United States slashed funding.
pledges do not equal actual currency
UNRWA chief Pierre Kraehenbuehl said the funding would allow the agency, which provides education and health services to Paleostinians, to cover costs for the coming months and avoid a budget crisis.

Around 35 countries took part in the conference, mostly Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an and Arab nations, with the biggest contributions coming from the EU, Germany, and Britannia.

The conference was held on the same day as President Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
’s administration unveiled the economic component of a long-awaited Middle East peace plan, at a workshop in Bahrain.

The US plan dangles the prospect of $50 billion of investment in the Paleostinian territories and neighboring Arab countries over 10 years.

Last year, the Trump administration cut all funding to UNRWA, arguing that it was flawed as Washington pressed ahead with work on proposals for an Israeli-Paleostinian solution.

US Middle East advisor Jason Greenblatt in May told the Security Council that the agency should be dismantled and its services handed over to countries hosting the Paleostinian refugees and NGOs.

Kraehenbuehl welcomed the pledge of $110 million, saying it was an "important amount" but said UNRWA would be seeking more funding to cover its annual budget of $1.2 billion in September.

"We hope this allows us to bridge a lot of the needs that we have in the next three to four months," he told news hounds.

#1  the 'not religious' question did have two points to work with

the misogyny, etc. questions seem to only have been part of the second survey

of course you could say that misogyny, etc. is actually part, maybe the most important part, of the religion

#2  True. Misogyny is an intrinsic part of Arab culture, even pre-islam. Misogyny, malanthropy, feud, murder, loot and domination - to justify these very traits of dysfunctional communities and take political advantage of them was the cult established. These things can never be subtracted from islam or any derivative of it, because they are the substratum on which the entire ideology stands.

I'm all for introducing atheism, gay rights, abortion, drug addled navel gazing and other 'progressive' concepts to all muslims.

The radicals' job is made easier by our elites, who seem to dislike the West as much as the Wahabbis do.

Man ‘dead for 20 minutes’ brought back to life after being electrocuted
[NYPOST] A Michigan man is lucky to be alive after getting electrocuted, especially considering he was dead for 20 minutes before several shocks to his heart jolted him back to life.

"They brought in this perfect young man who had no vital signs," said Dr. Angel Chudler, an emergency room physician at Beaumont Hospital, according to the hospital’s blog.

"I said to my team, ’We’re bringing him back.’ And then I said to him, ’You better come back!’"

And after another jolt from the defibrillator, 20-year-old Michael Truitt came back.

"When he became conscious again, he was like the Hulk, grabbing the railings and shaking the bed with huge strength. It took the entire care team to hold Michael," Yasmeen Bachir, a clinical nurse who helped care for Truitt, said in the blog post, which also stated that Truitt was "dead for 20 minutes" prior to resuscitation.

Truitt had been working with his stepdad at a home in Livonia when a metal ladder he was carrying touched a live electrical wire. He said he doesn’t remember anything past that, but the homeowner called 911 and started CPR. It took about four minutes for paramedics to arrive and they attempted to revive him with the defibrillator while en route to the hospital, but he never regained a heartbeat in the ambulance.

Jailed daughter of late Uzbek leader returns $1 billion to state
[DAWN] The placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
daughter of Uzbekistan’s former leader has begged his successor to release her after claiming she gave more than one billion dollars to the state, while an anti-fraud ruling in her former home of Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
deepened her troubles.

Gulnara Karimova, the 46-year-old daughter of the late strongman Islam Karimov, was sentenced to a decade behind bars by an Uzbek court in 2017 on fraud and money-laundering charges. In a statement via Instagram on Sunday she stopped short of acknowledging guilt but apologised to the people of the Central Asian nation for "disappointment that I might have brought".

The former diplomat and popstar said she had given more than $1.2 billion (one billion euros) of her "personal assets" to the state "in the interest of the republic’s budget".
"all of which was earned investing in cattle futures.."
The Russian-language story shared on her daughter Iman Karimova’s Instagram page also said Karimova and her legal team had relinquished claims to $686 million kept in foreign banks.

"It’s authentic," Karimova’s Swiss lawyer Gregoire Mangeat told this news agency of the Instagram post on Monday, while declining to comment on its contents. Karimova’s apparent appeal came on the eve of an announcement by the Swiss attorney general on Monday that Switzerland had sent 130 million Swiss francs ($133 million) to Uzbekistan formerly held in bank accounts in the Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an country.

The move follows a first conviction in an anti-corruption investigation in Switzerland in which Karimova is believed to have been a central figure.

The Swiss attorney general said the return of funds followed a Swiss court’s conviction of an unnamed "relative of Gulnara Karimova".

The male relative was accused of moving money around bank accounts "to prevent the origin and actual destination of the funds from being identified," the attorney general said in a statement.

#2  Why is Afghanistan hooked on poppies?

Because it’s a steady income for the Taliban, who guard the producer for a cut of the profits. They wouldn’t be needed to guard pistachio orchards or saffron fields. Also, Afghanistan has an excess of uneducated peasants to harvest the poppies, many already opium addicts, so that isn’t an issue.

Mexico president says there may have been 'excesses' in migrant detentions
[Yahoo] Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Tuesday the country's new militarized National Guard police force could have committed "excesses" by detaining migrant women close to the U.S. border, and that they had not been instructed to do so.

Mexico has not traditionally used security forces to stop undocumented foreign citizens leaving the country for the United States.

Lopez Obrador faced repeated questions at a news conference on Tuesday about photographs that emerged last week of the National Guard catching Central American and Cuban women in Ciudad Juarez, which border El Paso, Texas.

The photographs showed National Guard members, some armed with rifles, chasing female migrants and detaining them on the Mexican side of the border. Lopez Obrador said they had not been instructed to carry out such detentions.

"There could have been these excesses, but the instruction for everybody is to respect the human rights of migrants, and that will continue," he said.

Critics, including political allies of Lopez Obrador, say Mexico is doing too much to placate U.S. President Donald Trump, after an agreement to stave off a tariff threat that has led to a deployment of more than 20,000 National Guard and soldiers to contain a surge in migration from Central America and beyond.

Mexico's army chief said on Monday that 15,000 of those forces had been deployed along the northern border with the United States.

The National Guard does have the legal right to detain migrants, Lopez Obrador said, but he explained that it had been not instructed to do so at the northern border.

Wayfair employees plan walkout to oppose furniture sales to migrant detention facilities
[BostonGlobe] Employees of the Boston-based online housewares giant Wayfair announced Tuesday that they would stage a walkout at the company's Back Bay offices Wednesday to protest the company's decision to sell furniture to operators of facilities for migrant children detained at the southern US border.

According to a Wayfair employee who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution, Wayfair employees learned last Wednesday that a $200,000 order of bedroom furniture had been placed by BCFS, a government contractor that has been managing camps at the border.

"We were disheartened and concerned about Wayfair's business" with BCFS, the employee said, and so employees decided to act. Within hours, a group of 50 employees began drafting a letter to the company's executive leadership, with included cofounders Niraj Shah, Steve Conine, and the entire board, outlining their concerns. More than 547 employees signed the letter before it was handed off to the leadership team.
And I, today, sent a "Bye Felicia" note to Wayfair.

Afghanistan
New master gunners graduate in Herat province of Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] A group of ten artillerymen graduated after completing their training in Herat

province of Afghanistan.

The NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
-led Resolute Support Mission posted a brief statement earlier this evening confirming that ten Afghan artillerymen concluded training last week in Herat province.

The statement further added that NATO remains committed to support the Afghan Forces in paving a way towards a political settlement of the conflict.

The graduation of the new artillerymen could prove pivotal in providing indirect fire support to the armed forces.

The Afghan armed forces have stepped up counter-terrorism operations across the country during recent months.

The military officials had earlier said that military pressure would be maintained on murderous Moslem groups until they (militants) opt negotiations over violence.

The second to last sentence answers a question of mine. For months I've noticed a large change in the tone of articles posted here. These newer postings indicate the Afghans are beginning to sound and act like a real army. At first one would assume it's the Afghan news outlets coming up with unbelievables. I am beginning to think all this training and some younger leaders are finally having a positive impact.

Thanks for posting these articles and in such volume, trailing wife.

#2  You are very welcome, Roger. Fred gets credit for finding the news sources — I just organize the articles provided there.

It sounds to me like our people are quietly upping their tempo, too. One suspects the change of commander-in-chief had something to do with that.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Pennsylvania man, 29, 'built a bomb out of butane tanks and metal staples in his hotel room to warn police about ALIENS who want to destroy the planet with a nuclear laser beam'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • David Oxenreider, 29, is charged with manufacturing a weapon of mass destruction, causing or risking a catastrophe and reckless endangerment

  • Accused of planting a makeshift bomb outside Bahney House Hotel in Myerstown, where he had been living

  • State police bomb squad disabled the package, which consisted of two butane tanks, staples, hatchet and phone charges

  • Oxenreider said it was not his intent to hurt anyone, and that he wanted to draw the attention of police

  • He claimed that in 2014, he had an encounter with aliens that told him that if humans didn't 'start being good people,' they would destroy Earth

  • 'When he tells people about his alien encounter, people say he is crazy,' the charging document stated

  • He converted to Islam a couple of years ago, taking the name Muhammad Shahid
It sounds like he was drawn to Islam about the same time the aliens contacted him. It was just the right age when paranoid schizophrenia blossoms, poor man.

Arabia
Why is civic honesty lacking in Arab, Islamic countries?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Late June saw the leading scientific journal, Science, publish an article ranking a sample of 40 countries in civic honesty, where people voluntarily refrain from opportunistic behavior. Worryingly for Arab and Islamic countries, they dominated the lowest positions in the rankings, while the highest positions were reserved for the countries with the highest living standards. While it is difficult to demonstrate a definitive causal relationship between civic honesty and economic success, the data should make policymakers think hard about the need to make people trust each other more as part of their economic strategies.

The authors of the paper, titled "Civil honesty across the globe," conducted an experiment whereby a covert associate would return a "lost" wallet to one of five societal institutions (a bank, theater/museum, post office, hotel, or cop shoppe). The wallet would contain the contact details of the fictitious owner- an email address was created by the researchers- as well as some money and some personal possessions. The associate would say that they were in a hurry, and ask the receiving staff to assist in returning the wallet to its rightful owner. They did this with 17,000 wallets across 40 countries, allowing them to create a ranking of the 40 countries in terms of the likelihood that the lost wallet be returned.

Students of economics should be unsurprised by the top five countries: Switzerland

#2  Why is civic honesty lacking in Arab, Islamic countries?

Islam. Asked, Answered.
Posted by: Woodrow || 06/26/2019 5:14 Comments || Top||

#3  As I've said before, malanthropy is intrinsic in the Arab male. Generations of harsh survival in an environment of feud, communal enmities, coups and bloodshed. The religion of islam was created only to justify these traits and weaponize them. It contains an institutionalized ideology of hatred, deception, crime, plodding gradually toward conquest. It is the ultimate Asshole Manual.

The lack of civic honesty in many countries could be simply due to economic reasons (like India). Also honesty of citizens is often directly proportional to the honesty of the governments themselves. But in islamic nations, no amount of progress or transparency has been able to reform the average delinquent muslim.

#5  where people voluntarily refrain from opportunistic behavior

Why would a normative concept inherent in one culture be anticipated in another?

#6  You may be dubious about the hbd interpretations, but hbdchick had some interesting maps of different cultural features across Europe and the Middle East.

IIRC her hypothesis was that close cousin marriages bred attitudes of stronger family ties and weaker ties to the wider society.
