Troll Level: EPIC
[RedState] Yesterday morning Donald Trump sent out a series of tweets that according to some, appeared to target 4 recently elected Democrat Congresswomen. My good friend and colleague Bonchie reported on this here. I also did a hot take on it, here. My response to Bonchie yesterday, was meant to convey the idea that Trump’s tweets weren’t a bad thing but were likely a good thing.

Given a night to reflect, I’ve decided to "revise and extend my remarks," so to speak. I now believe that the President has indeed reached Troll Level: Epic. As expected, the left went nuts over yesterday’s series of tweets. As also expected, the epithet they immediately started screeching was, "Racist!" Of course that’s just hogwash. As Neil Boortz used to opine, "It’s not the color, it’s the culture." What sane person wants to import the culture of Mogadishu to Detroit? Wait. Never mind.

#1  Trump is a troll master. He knows how to get a reaction from people and the reaction from the left is consistent hysteria/offended screeching.

Not only does he distract them by throwing poo over the wall, he forced Nancy to stop being a stabilizing influence against AOC and forced her to rush to her defense in a very public way.

Trump knows how to maximize chaos against those that oppose him and he makes the most of it.

#4  He's trapping the Left in to making it an election between America and the Anti-Americans. They're playing into the gambit.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Field experiment uses fake emails to measure gender and racial bias among startup investors, [finds bias against white males].
[PHYS.org] During his six years teaching a course on financing for startups, Ilya A. Strebulaev heard a common concern from students: Silicon Valley investors discriminate against women and people of color.

A finance professor at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Strebulaev had encountered plenty of anecdotes to support this assumption. Often-cited statistics also seemed to suggest gender bias: For every dollar invested in startups with female founders in 2017, male-founded companies got $35. And fewer than 10 percent of U.S. venture capitalists are women.

Yet no field-based research had proven that startup investors favored white men. So Strebulaev set out to test the conventional wisdom in the real world.

Along with Will Gornall, his former student and a finance professor at the University of British Columbia, Strebulaev sent 80,000 emails pitching fake startups to 28,000 venture capitalists and angel investors, signed with names indicating gender and ethnicity. The results of the field experiment were unexpected: Entrepreneurs with female and Asian-sounding names received a higher rate of interested replies than their presumed male or white counterparts.
80,000 emails - so he's a spammer
"We were surprised to find bias in favor of female and Asian entrepreneurs at this initial stage of the investment pipeline," Strebulaev says. "That doesn't mean there's no discrimination against them overall—we know the pipeline is leaky, but we don't know where."

Shoplifting harms store owners, state Retailers bear burden of ‘no-prosecute' policy
[Boston Herald] Thanks to this week’s green light from The Boston Planning & Development Agency, Plan: Dudley Square is moving ahead on its development track.

And of the four sites set for building projects: 75-81 Dudley St., 2147 Washington St., 135 Dudley St. and 40-50 Washington St., at least one 75-81 Dudley, lists retail establishments among the components of its mixed use development.

Plan: Dudley is hardly the only planning/construction venture fueling our city’s growth spurt ‐ The Hub on Causeway, 1000 Boylston, Back Bay Station/Tower and The Fenway Center will join the other gleaming towers in Boston’s skyline. These enterprises are also designed with "mixed use" in mind ‐ retail operations eager for customers and a chance to grow their Hub market.

One question: How do you attract ‐ and keep ‐ retailers when the county’s district attorney has declared shoplifting off-limits for prosecution?

It’s a point that’s top of mind with the Retailers Association of Massachusetts, which recently lambasted Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins’ hands-off policy on prosecuting shoplifters, and in a story reported by the Herald’s Lisa Kashinsky, said Rollins’ move made it "open season on our retail stores."

The notion that because shoplifting is a non-violent crime, it’s low-level and therefore unimportant clearly has little empathy for the store owner with razor-thin profit margins, trying to make a living while his or her inventory walks out the door.

How bad can it be? Massachusetts businesses lose an estimated $1 billion annually in stolen merchandise, Retailers Association General Counsel Ryan Kearney told Kashinsky. And those five-finger discounts leave the state roughly $62.5 million short in sales tax revenue.

#1  Retailers bear burden of 'No prosecute' Policy.

Only until they can accurately calculate the costs of shrinkage, then make up the prices. Just another 'hidden tax' the honest consumer must pay. It's only fair.

#2  Have the shops considered the proven track record of mafia legbreakers? Nothing adds that personal touch like Hired Goons. I'm quite sure shoplifting won't be a problem after the first few 'examples' turn up. Floating in a pool of cement.
Posted by: Silentbrick || 07/15/2019 13:36 Comments || Top||

#3  These people are not shoplifters. They are just people making an undocumented withdrawal from inventory.

Of course, if you don't prosecute shoplifters, they will become more and more bold. Eventually, people will just start walking out with the merchandise. I mean, why pay when you can just take it, and no one can do anything?
Posted by: Rambler in Virginia || 07/15/2019 16:41 Comments || Top||

#4  There is also a limit on how much retailers can pass along as their costs. If it gets to high, then a black or grey market appears to replace the retail stores. Then when the gimme's try to rob a black market location you'll see disappearances.

#5  I don't understand. How does a county DA declare a constitutional directive/provision 'off-limits' ? 'Petty larceny' I believe it's called. Are lawyers going to face action for taking up cases against shoplifters ? If the cop catches a thief in the act, how does the DA disallow normal prosecution ? Can somebody walking out with goods not be detained by the store and handed to cops ? How does it work ?

Also, I found this , which explains the 'why'.

AOC's Brain
[Spectator] Nancy Pelosi is obviously having difficulty controlling the increasingly acrimonious infighting between factions of the House Democratic caucus. Most observers assume that the primary cause of this discord is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the cadre of far-left first-termers collectively known as "the Squad."

But its actual source is Saikat Chakrabarti, the prime mover behind a Tennessee-based PAC called the "Justice Democrats," whose support was largely responsible for getting Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ro Khanna, and Pramila Jayapal elected last November. Chakrabarti has now set up shop in the House, ostensibly as AOC's chief of staff.

Chakrabarti's previous HQ was a Knoxville address out of which the Justice Democrats and another PAC operated side by side with a dozen congressional campaign committees. This arrangement flouted a variety of campaign finance laws and prompted several Federal Election Commission complaints, including one alleging that Chakrabarti set up a $1 million slush fund. ...

Predictably, this presumptuous tweet drew a number of angry responses from various Democrats who had voted for the measure, whereupon Chakrabarti once again betook himself to Twitter and proceeded to accuse his critics of racism:

Instead of "fiscally conservative but socially liberal," let's call the New Democrats and Blue Dog Caucus the "New Southern Democrats." They certainly seem hell bent to do to black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did in the 40s.

Chakrabarti later deleted that tweet, but not before it had clearly signaled who actually calls the shots in AOC's office. There isn't the slightest possibility that a 33-year-old staffer in the office of a first-term U.S. congresswoman would even consider publicly criticizing the Democratic colleagues of his putative boss ‐ much less the leadership of her caucus ‐ if he feared any serious consequences. Can you imagine what would happen to a staffer in GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw's office who had posted a tweet insulting the freshman congressman's Republican colleagues? The staffer would be lucky to escape with his life, much less his job. The best he could hope for would be the cardboard box treatment.

But that's not what happened to Chakrabarti. He not only remained on the job, but he was also encouraged by AOC in a series of typically incoherent tweets. A week after the above-quoted tweets Chakrabarti took to Twitter yet again and openly admonished Nancy Pelosi ‐ who was first elected to Congress when he was still in diapers and also happens to be the Speaker of the House ‐ for her eminently sensible reluctance to pursue a politically suicidal impeachment inquiry into President Trump's fictitious crimes. In another tweet posted the same day, he ridicules Pelosi's legislative acumen and compares her supposed deficiencies to the "strategic smarts" of the weird sisters of the Squad:

All these articles want to claim what a legislative mastermind Pelosi is, but I'm seeing way more strategic smarts from freshman members like @AOC, @IlhanMN, @RashidaTlai and @AyannaPressley. Pelosi is just mad that she got outmaneuvered (again) by Republicans.

Chakrabarti doesn't see himself as a mere staffer in some congresswoman's office. He sees AOC as someone who provides him with a headquarters from which he can "fundamentally change" the Democratic Party. As the magazine's profile phrases it, "Saikat Chakrabarti isn't just running her office. He's guiding a movement."

What does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez think about all this? It isn't her job to think. That's Chakrabarti's function. Her job is to provide him with a platform to carry out his grandiose political schemes.

Whenever you hear AOC say something outrageous, remember that Saikat Chakrabarti is behind the curtain, furiously pushing buttons, spinning dials, and pumping the smoke machine.

Incidentally, Saikat's father, Samir Chakrabarti has donated an undisclosed amount to some charities owned by his own relatives from 2016 till the time the whole FEC thingy blew up.

Mark Levin: Airport Bookstores Refuse to Carry My Book 'Unfreedom of the Press'
[PJ] Popular conservative radio talker Mark Levin is furious. Despite the success of his new book Unfreedom of the Press, airport bookstores refuse to sell it. This while they are carrying Jim Acosta's failed book, The Enemy of the People.

"See the book display this morning at Reagan National Airport (below)," Levin writes in a Facebook post with a photo attached. "For some reason, airport bookstores throughout the country refuse to carry UNFREEDOM OF THE PRESS, which has been a best seller for nearly two months and has sold hundreds of thousands of copies!"

Levin doesn't exaggerate the success of his latest book. He announced on May 30 that it had debuted "#1 on the New York Times bestseller list." It has now been on the list for seven weeks on a row. It currently claims a third position in the "Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction" category, which makes it very likely that it'll be on the list for the rest of the summer (if not longer).

Former ICE Director To Dems: Have You Consoled The Small Child Or Spouse Of A Fallen Officer?
[The Federalist] Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement director Thomas Homan testified before Congress on Friday to explain why the agency under his watch did what they had to do in order to secure the border and save lives. Appearing before hostile Democratic representatives who were clearly there to score political points, Homan proved himself to be courageous, tough, and well quite frankly an American patriot. Watching his testimony made it clear that certain members of Congress were unprepared in dealing with Homan and his staunch defense of American borders as well his support for the men and women of border patrol who risk their lives each day.

As reported by Nate Madden of The Blaze, Homan's opening statement made it clear from the getgo that he was not going to tolerate any slandering of him and his officers.

#2  Homan also slammed all members of Congress for not wanting to fix the border. "There's no downside on having a secure border; there is no downside on having less illegal immigration; there's no downside on less illegal drugs coming into this country; there's no downside in stopping the bankrolling of criminal cartels in Mexico that smuggle both people and drugs," Homan added. "I don't care if you're a Republican or Democrat, you should want to secure our border."

Hot Tip: If You Throw Molotovs, The Police Will Probably Shoot You
[Hot Air] Apparently, this isn’t the type of story the media likes to talk about very much. A guy showed up at an ICE detention center in Tacoma, Washington yesterday, armed with a rifle and a duffle bag full of Molotov cocktails and other improvised "incendiary devices." Needless to say, he wasn’t there to help with their lawn care. After the literal fireworks began, police showed up on the scene. How the encounter precisely played out isn’t clear yet, but the Molotov man wound up at room temperature. Fortunately, none of the responding officers were injured. (Daily Beast)

This Market-Based Health Insurance Alternative Has Increased 600 Percent Since Obamacare
[The Federalist] Do Christians have a little edge on health care in the United States? Health-care sharing ministries (HCSM) are exploding‐membership has increased 600 percent in nine years‐as these unregulated oddballs maneuver freely in an industry that today is tethered by more rules and bureaucracy than ever before.

In the second Democratic presidential primary debate, Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris raised their hands when asked, "Who here would abolish their private health insurance in favor of a government-run plan?" Wiping out our nation’s $600 billion private insurance industry would most likely include my family’s membership in a HCSM.

HCSMS: AN OASIS OF MARKETS IN A SEA OF SOCIALISM
HCSMs might just be the last stronghold through which a patient can energetically participate in market-oriented health care. Each year, thousands of Christian families like ours take the plunge, drop traditional health insurance, and join a sharing ministry. Like us, many find a surprisingly humane and affordable oasis outside of the cruel desert of Healthcare.gov.

HCSMs have been around since the late 1980s in smaller forms. When Obamacare threatened to end health-care sharing ministries in 2010, religious freedom advocates got loud, most notably lobbyist James Lansberry, who famously said, "Who is this Barack Obama who mocks the armies of the living God?" Senate Democrats caved, extending a tiny exemption from the Affordable Care Act to appease a mere 150,000 HCSM members.

For nine years, as Obamacare tore through American households and clinics and hospitals, HCSMs quietly grew‐twice, thrice, and now nine times their size. Today there are 1.2 million HCSM members, and their medical expenses covered by sharing ministries exceeds $1 billion annually. Membership is expected to reach 1.68 million by 2020.

Growth has its pains, and some HCSMs are under fire over issues of quality and honesty. Member complaints within Liberty HealthShare and Aliera Healthcare Inc. have raised red flags in several states, especially Washington state, where both were ordered in May to stop operating.

#1  In the early 1950's a doctor meets a father and son after hours at his office. The doctor sets the lads broken arm and puts it in a cast. The father asks the doctor "what do we owe you." The doctor replies "how are you going to pay, insurance or cash?" The father replies "is there a price difference?" The doctor replies... "yes, insurance is $50., cash is $20." The father hands the doctor a $20. bill and thanks him for the late office call.

[Babylon Bee] U.S.‐A shocking new study published Monday by The Barna Group seemed to suggest that disagreeing with gay or transgender people on lifestyle and/or social issues is not the same thing as hating them, causing an uproar on the internet and college campuses across the nation.

The study followed thousands of self-identified Christians who support traditional marriage and gender definitions, and found that while they disagree with the current cultural narrative on gender and sex, the majority of them do not harbor hatred for gay and transgender people, with most treating them just like they treat most other people in their daily lives.

"Our startling research strongly suggests that just because a person disagrees with people who are homosexual or transsexual, and even questions the principles, assumptions, and logic behind their worldviews, for religious or other reasons, this does not necessarily mean that they despise them to the inner core of their being," a Barna representative told reporters. "While there are exceptions, our study indicates that it is not always appropriate to automatically correlate conservative social stances on sex and gender to bigoted homophobia and transphobia."

Travesty in Arizona: Disabled Vet Loses His Home over $236 in Unpaid Taxes
[American Thinker] In 1991, Air Force veteran Jim Boerner suffered "spinal and brain injuries" during a training exercise at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. Until recently, he had been the proud owner of a mobile home in a Mesa, Arizona mobile home community. He "loves his neighbors" there and "brings flowers to widowed neighbors on Christmas, Easter, and Mother's Day," Rebekah L. Sanders of the Arizona Republic writes.

He had purchased the home, his "nest egg," as he refers to it, for a sum somewhere just north of $30K, according to the article.

Now, at age 49, he is on the verge of being evicted by the new owner of that mobile home, which was seized by the government for Boerner's having been delinquent on his taxes ‐ to the tune of an unpaid amount of $236. The home's buyer, named Lester Payne, purchased the home at auction for the trifling sum of $4,400.

Calling this purchase a "steal" may be more literal than our more colloquial use of the term.

We should be clear. This is not the legal confiscation of a bank-owned item, like a car or a home, due to a breach of contract for required payments. This was a government deciding that, due to $236 of unpaid taxes, it had the right to confiscate a ~$30K home owned outright by an individual, then selling it to the highest bidder and pocketing the proceeds (which were roughly 15% of the initial purchase price).

This, in any other circumstances, would rightfully be declared the theft of this man's property. A "steal," indeed.

Olde Tyme Religion
Churches jump into action with threat of immigration sweeps
CHICAGO (AP) ‐ As a nationwide immigration crackdown loomed, religious leaders across the country used their pulpits Sunday to quell concerns in immigrant communities and spring into action to help those potentially threatened by the operation.

A Chicago priest talked during his homily about the compassion of a border activist accused of harboring illegal immigrants, while another city church advertised a "deportation defense workshop." Dozens of churches in Houston and Los Angeles offered sanctuary to anyone afraid of being arrested. In Miami, activists handed out fliers outside churches to help immigrants know their rights in case of an arrest.

"We’re living in a time where the law may permit the government to do certain things but that doesn’t necessarily make it right," said the Rev. John Celichowski of St. Clare de Montefalco Parish in Chicago, where the nearly 1,000-member congregation is 90 percent Hispanic and mostly immigrant.

While federal immigration officials were mum on details, agents had been expected to start a coordinated action Sunday targeting roughly 2,000 people, including families, with final deportation orders in 10 major cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Miami.

Activists and city officials reported some U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in New York and Houston a day earlier, but it was unclear if it was part of the same operation. The Houston advocacy group FIEL said two people were arrested there Saturday. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed there were three incidents involving ICE on Saturday, but agents didn’t succeed in rounding up residents. Speaking at a news conference Sunday in New York, de Blasio called the operation "a political act" by President Donald Trump that had nothing to do with enforcing the law.

As Epstein bail fight looms, feds say evidence growing daily
[AP] NEW YORK (AP) ‐ Federal prosecutors, preparing for a bail fight Monday, say evidence against financier Jeffrey Epstein is growing "stronger by the day" after several more women contacted them in recent days to say he abused them when they were underage.

Prosecutors say Epstein, 66, is a flight risk and danger to the community and should remain incarcerated until he is tried on charges that he recruited and abused dozens of underage girls in New York and Florida in the early 2000s.

His lawyers counter that their client has not committed crimes since pleading guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution charges in Florida in 2008 and that the federal government is reneging on a 12-year-old deal not to prosecute him. They say he should be allowed to await trial under house arrest in his $77 million Manhattan mansion, with electronic monitoring.

In a written submission Friday to U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman, prosecutors revealed new information about their investigation and why they perceive Epstein as dangerous.

Car bomb and all-night hotel siege kill 26 in Somalia's Kismayo
[Reuters] MOGADISHU/GAROWE, Somalia (Reuters) - Kenyans, Americans, a Briton and Tanzanians were among 26 people killed when Islamist gunmen stormed a hotel in the Somali port city of Kismayo, officials said on Saturday, the deadliest attack in the city since insurgents were driven out in 2012.

A car bomb exploded at the hotel in the southern port city while local elders and lawmakers were meeting on Friday night, before three gunmen stormed in, police said. Security forces took 11 hours to end the siege, they said.

The dead included a presidential candidate for August’s Jubbaland regional elections, Jubbaland state president Ahmed Mohamed Madobe said. At least two journalists and a U.N. agency staff member were also reported to have been killed.

Al Qaeda-linked Islamist group al Shabaab, which is trying to topple Somalia’s weak, U.N.-backed government, immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Government
How a Criminal Justice Reform Became an Enrichment Scheme
BLUF:
[Politico] Alexandria, La.‐Bruce Kelly has been treasurer of Rapides Parish for three years and was assistant treasurer for 27 before that.

Over the past three years, the DA’s intake from court fines had dropped from $900,000 to about $500,000 in 2017. According to Kelly’s calculations, the number of traffic tickets issued‐the DA office’s primary source of fine income‐had also dropped, from an average of 12,000 per year to 7,000. Kelly found it curious that the DA’s office was requesting so much money from the parish, while seemingly cutting down on one of its main money sources.

And there were signs that the DA’s office, despite its big ask, wasn’t short on cash: It had a fleet of new cars with leather seats. Kelly went through old state audits and other public information, and came to the conclusion that Terrell’s office was bringing in plenty of money but keeping it for itself.

He was right. Under Terrell, the DA’s office, as shown by public documents, had ramped up its "pretrial diversion" program, also sometimes called "pretrial intervention," or PTI. As the website for the Rapides Parish DA’s office explains, the program provides "nonviolent offenders an opportunity to avoid conviction and incarceration" through "tailored" agreements in which the offenders pay money in exchange for their charges being dropped and their cases dismissed. In the program’s simplest form, instead of receiving and paying speeding tickets, offenders were paying fees not to get tickets. And those fees were going directly to the DA’s office‐whose website features a prominent MAKE A PAYMENT button.

Foggy Bottom butt hurt over Sweden's jailing of rapper A$AP Rocky
[The Hill] The State Department is raising concerns about the arrest and detention of American rapper A$AP Rocky in Sweden, Politico reported Sunday.

Rocky was arrested on July 2 after voluntarily going to the police in Stockholm for questioning over a street fight he played a role in. He was been kept in custody since, triggering uproar among many popular American artists.

A spokesperson for the State Department told Politico that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has been briefed on the situation.

Top officials at the department, including Ambassador Robert O’Brien, the special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, are also reportedly keeping close tabs on the situation.

"There are certainly some facts about the arrest and detention that raise concerns," the spokesperson told Politico.

"We expect all governments, including Sweden, to treat American citizens fairly and with respect. ... We hope to see ASAP Rocky and his colleagues back on tour and reunited with friends and family soon."

Swedish prosecutors have until Friday to decide whether to charge Rocky, who is being held in solitary confinement, or ask a court to let them hold him longer.

When reached for comment, a State Department spokesperson confirmed to The Hill that the agency is actively aware of the situation but declined to comment further.

And I'm Done
[DailyBeast] Lashana Lynch a Black Woman Is Taking Over as 007. It's About Damn Time.

In news that will surely come as a shock to James Bond fans and the film industry at large, it was revealed today that longtime 007 Daniel Craig will pass the Walther PPK to black British actress Lashana Lynch in the iconic role.

For years there has been intense speculation about who would take over the reins of one of the most durable and profitable film franchises in history once Craig stepped aside. Much of that speculation has revolved around whether the series might make a nod toward diversity and cast a person of color or a woman for the first time.

But if the report today from UK tabloid the Daily Mail is to be believed, the 007 producers are going for a radical twofer: casting a 31-year-old black female newcomer as Bond’s heir apparent.
Wild Wild West's James West. Louis Farrakhan played by Bobby De Niro, Alexander Hamilton.

#1  ...The good news is that the nice folks at EON Productions, Bond's commercial guardians, are yanking your chains. At the end of Spectre, James Bond retired and went to hang out someplace with his main squeeze. There still has to be a 007, however, and Ms. Lynch is playing the agent who got that job - she's not going to be playing James Bond in BOND 26 (sometime in the next six to eight years, the way things have been going).

I suspect in the actual movie she'll get a spectacular death scene somewhere, James Bond will be 007 again at the end of it, and somebody with a tallywhacker will be James Bond in the next movie - I don't think EON's dumb enough to kill one of Hollywood's all time cash cows.

[DAWN] LAKKI MARWAT: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested an alleged child abuser, three hours after a girl victim started the paperwork but haven't done much else against him in Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak cop shoppe of Naurang town.

The 10-year-old girl told police that on July 11, she along with her cousins was playing in the street when a resident of Zahidabad locality came there and asked them to accompany him to his house for bringing ’Zam Zam’ water and dates for their uncle.

"After covering some distance the man asked my cousins to wait there and took me to the fields where he assaulted me," she told police and said that that the accused kept her there for around one and half hour.

Russia confirms military convoy came under attack in southern Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] Militants in Syria’s Daraa province carried out a kaboom on the route of Russian Armed Forces’ military police patrol on Saturday, Maj. Gen. Alexey Bakin, head of the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation, said. There were no casualties among the Russian troops as a result of the attack, he added.

"A remote-controlled improvised bomb went kaboom! on July 13, 2019, on the route of patrols of military police of the Russian Armed Forces in the province of Daraa of the Syrian Arab Republic," Bakin said at a briefing.

The attack comes a day after another incident when Russian air defences at the Hmeymim airbase shot down three aerial drones launched by bully boyz operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

7 victims of scorpion stings in Al-Kufra in just one night
[Libya Observer] The Ambulance and Emergency Service in Kufra city confirmed the arrival of seven cases with scorpion stings, to Attiya Alkasah Hospital last night.

"Three of the cases were children, among them a girl who was admitted to the intensive care unit," the Ambulance Service explained.

During the past few days, a girl from the city died of a scorpion sting, amid conflicting reports of her death.

Some said that it was due to lack of serum doses in the hospital; which the hospital strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
, while others said she didn't receive medical care in time.

People in the south are suffering this period of time of the spread of scorpions in the region due to high temperatures.

Last summer, dozens have died of scorpion stings amid the lack of anti-vaccines, before the Ministry of Health provided hospitals in the south with the treatment required, in coordination with the World Health Organization.

(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) oil minister was killed in eastern Syria this week after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) carried out a joint operation with the U.S.-led Coalition.

According to a statement from the SDF, their troops managed to kill Thabit Sobhi Fahd al-Ahmad while conducting an operation inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Thabit Sobhi Fahad al-Ahmad was one of the highest-ranking Islamic State commanders in the Deir Ezzor Governorate. He was responsible for the sale and smuggling of oil from the previously ISIS-occupied areas in Syria and Iraq.

Al-Ahmad was also considered one of the criminal masterminds behind the Islamic State’s economic policies during the terrorist group’s brief reign over much of eastern Syria and western Iraq.

His death is a major blow to the terrorist organization as he was one of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s brass hats.

4-year-old sexual assault victim regains consciousness at Pims
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The girl who was sexually assaulted a few days ago has regained consciousness and started talking to her parents and doctors at Pakistain Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

Pims front man Dr Wasim Khawaja said the condition of the four-year-old girl was far better but she was not in a position to give her statement to the police as she was still in a state of shock.

She has also started moving her hands and legs, he said, adding that doctors, especially child psychiatrists, were closely monitoring her condition.

Dr Khawaja said if doctors found her in a position to record her statement, police would be given access to her.

He said she was breathing normally as the condition of her lungs had improved but she was still on antibiotics.

He said the girl would be kept in the paediatric intensive care unit and doctors would take a decision to shift her to a ward.

When contacted, the girl’s father told Dawn that she had started talking to them but was still in a state of shock.

"She only told us that she fell on a road and a man picked her," the father said, adding the doctors had advised them not to ask questions about the incident.

Regarding the investigation, the father said he met the coppers, including SP City Mohammad Amir Khan Niazi, Subdivisional Police Officer Safir Bhatti and Bhara Kahu SHO.

They informed him that Sherlocks were waiting for the forensic report to initiate further investigation, he said.

He said he was not satisfied with the police line of action.

A police officer close to the investigation told Dawn that the Sherlocks were collecting details of the suspects.

He said police were waiting for reports of forensic tests and DNA profiling which would help the Sherlocks identify and trace the culprit.

Afghan Air Force flew its first Black Hawk NVG resupply mission in March: Pentagon
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan Air Force flew its first Night Vision Goggle (NVG) resupply mission using UH-60A+ Black Hawk helicopter in the month of March.

The Department of Defense stated in its report ’Enhancing Security and Stability in Afghanistan’ that the Afghan Air Force UH-60 pilots receive basic UH-60 flying skills training through a the six-week Aircraft Qualification Training (AQT).

The report further added that upon graduation, pilots can attend Mission Qualification Training (MQT), a 10-week contractor-led, academic and flight instruction course that graduates pilots as mission-certified "co-pilots."

Furthermore, Pentagon said through accrual of flying time and certification, squadron leadership can certify pilots as aircraft commanders. The AAF has 53 qualified UH-60 pilots.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa spent the day shopping for new underwear. Tonight was going to be a special occasion...
Pentagon said the Afghan Air Force currently has the capability to support MD-530 operations (rearm and refuel only) at forward-deployed locations for short intervals without CLS presence.

According to Pentagon, the Afghan Air Force will continue to require CLS and supporting training contracts to maintain combat capability in the mid-term and long-term.

In the meantime, Pentagon said the Afghan Air Force plans to build MD-530 NVG combat capability by integrating NVG curriculum into advanced training courses to support flying point-to-point navigation sorties.

border, did not agree to reveal anything and alerted his commanders.

Hamas has been increasing its efforts to obtain intelligence from Israeli troops stationed around the Gaza Strip.

Identifying themselves as Israelis, Hamas cyber operatives have been contacting the troops via the WhatsApp messaging service, sometime presenting information they have already managed to get on troop movements

The Hamas terror group has tried several times in the past few years to get sensitive information from soldiers in the border area using fake social media accounts and dating Apps or via Face Book using location tracking apps.

Most of these attempts have not been successful primarily due to an awareness in the IDF and a high level of alert but one effort in the past month was successful causing concern among military leadership.

A combat soldier serving with a paratrooper unit received a message on the WhatsApp messaging service from an unfamiliar number. The message was sent by a person who identified himself as a member of another unit requesting information including when the paratroopers were scheduled to leave the area.

When troops are replaced the number of incidents grows, such as the recent accidental killing of a Hamas operative Thursday in the northern Gaza Strip, an incident that involved the IDF admitting the shooting was a misunderstanding.

The departing troops are less alert on their final days in the field and the new arrivals are less familiar with the dangers.

The paratrooper who was approached via the App, refused to divulge anything despite being shown information that should not have been in the hands of anyone outside his unit. He alerted his commanders and an investigation into how this information came to be in the hands of Hamas was launched.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit released a statement saying: " The IDF is aware of the enemy's activity and is following its efforts over social media. We call on all military and civilian personnel to act carefully and responsibly."

Epstein investigation moves to his New Mexico 'Zorro Ranch' as alleged victims interviewed
[Telegraph] The investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the Wall Street financier charged with underage sex offences, has expanded to a sprawling ranch he owns in New Mexico's high desert.

Epstein's "Zorro Ranch," worth $12 million, is in the hills outside Santa Fe and has a private runway for his plane, stables, and perfectly manicured gardens.

The office of New Mexico attorney general Hector Balderas confirmed it was investigating allegations against Epstein, and interviewing people who allege that they were victims.

Mr Balderas has been in contact with prosecutors in New York, where Epstein has already been charged and is awaiting trial.

Epstein, 66, was first convicted of underage sex offences in 2008 when he agreed a plea deal in Florida. He admitted a single charge of soliciting a minor for prostitution in exchange for a 13 month jail sentence, and registering as a sex offender.

Shortly after completing his sentence he bought the New Mexico ranch from the family of the late New Mexico governor Bruce King.

Under New Mexico law he was not required to register as a sex offender there. According to local reports Epstein did voluntarily contact the sheriff's office in Santa Fe when he bought the ranch, alerting them about his conviction. But the New Mexico Department of Public Safety then told him he did not need to.

In a statement Mr Balderas said the fact Epstein had not been required to register as a sex offender in New Mexico was a "huge black eye for our state."

He added: "New Mexico continues to lag behind the rest of the country in strengthening outdated and weak laws that fail to protect our children from abuse."

Mr Balderas has not said how many alleged victims have been interviewed, or any details of what they allege happened.

In response to the New Mexico development Bradley Edwards, an lawyer for Epstein's alleged victims, told CBS News: "There are plenty of people that ran in his circles who have information. If you have information, you observed something, you heard something, come and let us know."

In 2015 a woman who claims she was a victim filed a legal case in Florida in which she claimed to have been abused at several locations, including the New Mexico ranch.

Epstein also owns a $77 million Manhattan townhouse and a 75-acre estate built on a private island in the US Virgin Islands.

Last week Alex Acosta, the US Labor Secretary, resigned amid the fallout from the Epstein case. In 2008 he was the Florida prosecutor who negotiated Epstein's plea deal.

Epstein has pleaded not guilty in New York to two charges including sex trafficking of minors. He could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted.

In the 1970s Epstein was a teacher at Dalton School, a prestigious school in New York. Former students told the New York Times his behaviour there "violated norms," including turning up at a party where students were drinking.

Paris Protesters, Police Clash around Champs-Elysees after Parade
[AnNahar] French police fired tear gas at protesters during a tense standoff in central Gay Paree on Sunday in the aftermath of the annual Bastille Day military parade on the Champs-Elysees, AFP news hounds said.

Officers attempted to disperse dozens of protesters, who hollered poorly rhymed slogans against the government, knocked down security barriers erected for the parade and set fire to refuse bins.

La Belle France, in particular Gay Paree, has been rocked since late last year by the "yellow vest" protest movement against the government of President Emmanuel Macron.

Sunday's violence was the worst seen in central Gay Paree since March. Many analysts had believed that the yellow vest movement had lost momentum.

But the demonstrators in central Gay Paree were not wearing the yellow vests that marked out the movement. Police had earlier not allowed those wearing the garments past barriers and some had carried yellow balloons instead.

The festivities tarnished the July 14 national day that commemorates the 1789 storming of the Bastille fortress in Gay Paree during the French Revolution and is marked every year by a military parade.

Macron sought to showcase Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an military cooperation in the parade, hosting key EU leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists...
and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Earlier some protesters had jeered and whistled at Macron as he stood in an open-top command car alongside La Belle France's chief of staff General Francois Lecointre.

Before the current festivities erupted, Gay Paree authorities said 152 people were tossed into the calaboose.

But the parade, which wrapped up at lunchtime, then passed without any hitch.

Former Bangladesh military dictator Ershad beyond all cares and woe at 89
[DAWN] Former Bangladesh military dictator Hussain Muhammad Ershad died on Sunday aged 89, after weeks in a Dhaka hospital, officials said.

General Ershad ruled Bangladesh for nearly a decade before being ousted from power in a pro-democracy upsurge in 1990 and was tossed in the slammer

He passed away due to complications from old age, Kazi Firoz Rashid, a longtime colleague and politician from his Jatiya Party

, told AFP. Armed forces front man Abdullah bin Zaid confirmed the death.

Ershad, who was also a prolific poet, was the head of the country's armed forces in 1982 when he took power in a bloodless coup after removing an elected government from power.

His rule was marked by a controversial decision to make Islam the state religion of the officially secular Moslem-majority nation.

In comments made to local news hounds from jail in 1996, he said that his "greatest failure [...] was running the country softly with a heart of a poet".

Despite the slew of cases against him, Ershad emerged as one of Bangladesh's major power brokers in the 1990s after his Jatiya Party became the country's third biggest political outfit.

Syria gas pipeline hit by sabotage attack: State media
[AlAhram] A new sabotage attack has hit a gas pipeline in Syria, state media reported Sunday, putting it out of service in the latest setback to the country's troubled energy sector.

The official news agency SANA denounced what it called a "terrorist act", without identifying the suspected perpetrators.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based war monitor, a kaboom targeted the pipeline in the Badiya desert, where the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. jihadist group is present.

The pipeline transports gas from the government-controlled Shaer field, the country's largest, in the central province of Homs to the Ebla plant, according to SANA.

"The gas pipeline... was put out of service by a terrorist act," the agency said, adding that "technical teams are working to repair it in the coming hours."

The Badiya desert is the scene of regular festivities between regime forces and IS, which maintains a strike capability despite losing all the territory it once held in Syria.

The country's eight-year war has seen the regime lose control of key oil fields and caused state hydrocarbon revenues to plummet by billions of dollars.

The government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

has been slapped with a raft of Western economic sanctions, including an oil embargo the United States and its partners sometimes enforce militarily.

Last month, underwater pipelines connected to a refinery in western Syria were sabotaged.

A bigwig said at the time the attack was carried out with the help of a foreign state.

Algeria Army Arrests 5 on Suspicion of Planning 'Attacks'
[AnNahar] The Algerian army has arrested five suspects for planning "attacks" against anti-government demonstrations that have swept the North African country since February 22, the defense ministry said on Sunday.

The suspects "planned attacks against peaceful protests across different parts of the country", it said in a statement, adding they were arrested in "anti-terrorist" raids last week in the Batna region southeast of the capital Algiers.

It identified the suspects as "terrorists", a term Algerian authorities use to describe armed Islamists who have been active in the country since the early 1990s.

Algeria has been rocked by months of protests since longtime leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth....
announced in February he would run for a fifth term.

He quit office but protesters have kept up the mass demonstrations, calling for an overhaul of the "system" and departure of key Bouteflika-era figures.

Interim president Abdelkader Bensalah has proposed a "neutral" national dialogue, without the involvement of the state or the military, to prepare for new presidential polls.

His proposals, backed by powerful army chief Ahmed Gaid Salah who has emerged as the country's key powerbroker since Bouteflika's departure, have failed to calm protesters.

Massive rallies continue to be held weekly on Fridays in Algiers and other key towns.

In recent weeks, police have detained dozens of demonstrators -- releasing them at the end of the Friday rallies.

Observers say the detentions and other measures including heavy police deployments are meant to discourage protesters from taking to the streets.

Young siblings’ ‘killer’ confesses to criminal assault on girl in Hyderabad
[DAWN] HYDERABAD: The suspect in the murder case of two young siblings had subjected the girl to criminal assault before strangulating her inside an under-construction house in Latifabad Unit-10 on July 8, according to Hyderabad SSP Sarfaraz Nawaz Sheikh.

He told a presser at police headquarters along with CIA DSP Aslam Langah and DSP Habib Shah here on Saturday that after killing the eight-year-old girl, the suspect injured her brother, Qadir Bux, 10, who died at the Liaquat University Hospital’s city branch the next day.

The police officer said that the suspect had confessed to having subjected her to criminal assault and then strangulating her. He said that a footage from the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera present outside the under-construction house was obtained by the police.

The SSP said that the footage revealed that the suspect along with Qadir Bux and his sister were seen entering the house. They came out of the house at around 8:30pm and the suspect entered the house along with the girl at 9pm while Qadir was not accompanying him.

He said that the suspect emerged from the house at around 9:37pm again, this time alone. During this period, he said, the suspect had gone to Unit-6 Latifabad Nursery Park with the girl and Qadir on the same cycle of violence. He dropped Qadir at the park asking him to wait there and he would be returning shortly.

The SSP said that as per electricity loadshedding schedule, there was no power supply between 5:45pm and 7:45pm in the area and their investigation showed that they all had first entered the house before electricity was restored.

This fact was also corroborated by the call data record (CDR) of the suspect’s mobile phone, he said.

Quoting the suspect, the SSP said that he had killed the girl after subjecting her to criminal assault between 9pm and 9:37pm. He said the suspect then took Qadir Bux to the Airport area where he stabbed Qadir Bux with a knife and left the scene, presuming him dead.

He said that suspect stated that he also caused injuries to the girl on her abdomen while strangulating her with her scarf. He said the suspect had claimed that one of his friends was with him while he had taken Qadir Bux to the Airport area.

He said that police were verifying the friend’s involvement.

He said that the relevant sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act were included in the FIR but it was up to court to accept this or not.

Qadir Bux along with his sister had gone missing after leaving their home in GOR Colony on July 8. The Airport police had found Qadir Bux in injured condition in the Kohsar area.

He was shifted to the LUH where he departed this vale of tears next day. The girl’s body was found lying inside the under-construction house on July 10.

Afghanistan
India has transferred 8 Mi-35 helicopters to Afghan Air Force: Pentagon
[KhaamaPress] The Department of Defense or Pentagon has confirmed that India has transferred 8 Mi-35 gunship helicopters to the Afghan Air Force.

Pentagon released its latest report titled ’Enhancing security and Stability in Afghanistan’, stating that India has transferred a total of eight Mi-35 helicopters to the Afghan Air Force, four during 2015/2016 and four more during 2018.

The report further adds that "This aid marks a significant departure from India’s previous policy of providing only non-lethal military assistance. Pak sensitivities towards Indian involvement in the country ultimately limited the assistance."

Furthermore, Pentagon said "Additionally, the Indian military provides procurement and training support to help professionalize the Afghan military and to improve its vehicle maintenance capabilities."

The report also added that India has traditionally had strong ties with Afghanistan and remains the largest regional donor to the country ($3 billion since 2001).

According to Pentagon Indian aid to Afghanistan focuses primarily on four main categories: humanitarian assistance, major infrastructure projects, small and community-based projects, and education and capacity development.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth ordered the space pirate fleet to attack Zemblonia...
Pentagon said India desires a stable Afghanistan that does not harbor holy warriors who could target Indian interests and does not have close ties with Pakistain.

In addition, Pentagon said there are no reports indicating that India has taken any serious action during the reporting period that would affect the situation in Afghanistan.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
Pentagon said in the 1990s, India supported the former Northern Alliance; and maintains contact with Afghan power brokers.

On the other hand, Pentagon said "In the event of a U.S. drawdown in Afghanistan, India likely will attempt to continue its support to Afghanistan and try to limit Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, Pak, and Chinese influence. A significant deterioration of security conditions in Afghanistan, however, may adversely affect the ability of India to provide aid."

#1  When our task forces in Afghanistan were shut down in '97 by weak willed and self absorbed administrations, the ISI ran amok from the NWFP along the northern hindukush for 10 years. Our policy with Afghanistan and Balochistan the fourth province of pakistain, and future independent state of the Baloch people was continued to be on the lines drawn arbitrarily for us by the inept, lazy R&AW an agency populated by political appointees from the police cadres superseding and often commandeering MI and foreign office resources and personnel, to largely no result. It was only after the proven ineptitude of the 'agents' whose work in the Registan periodically required taxpayer funded trips to Switzerland and Honolulu, that in 2002 the govt allowed the DIA to actively target ISI sponsored illicit trade and funding of the taliban, however once again, we were not to interfere with actual delivery of weapons, training grounds or recruitment. Meanwhile, the pakstain media went at the R&AW smearing it as a terror financing machine of mayhem, responsible for every blast and fatality in Afghanistan, that we were instigating revolt, we want their resources, we want to install a stooge in the democratic govt, we would rig the elections, we are assasinating mullahs left and right, blowing up mosques. Only those who've worked with us know what kind of demotivated imbeciles work foreign intelligence in India.

No Afghan actually believes the official Dawn and Tribune line. India is yugely popular with the citizens because of 1. The historic, cultural connect. 2. We never did them any wrong, despite our islamonausea and always support their desire for progressive reforms in society. It was said Indira Gandhi and Leonid Brezhnev had reached an understanding that New Delhi would educate the Afghans, promote progress in academia and provide an environment conducive to acceptance of socialism; while Moscow provides academics and doctrinaires for the eventual 'democracy' to come. Of course, that plan went to hell after '91. However, it left India and Afghanistan with strong civil society ties, cultural associations and exchanges. During this time, the Afghan people imbibed principles of working socialist democracy, the responsibilities of a Government and ideas of religious and scholastic liberty.

From early 2015, the Indian govt has invested moderately in infrastructure and education there, training engineers, agriculturists, funding schools, hosting their films, writers and artistes, etc. The US forces have actively protected and helped sustain these relations. Now, in the event of a pull out India would probably just step back and watch it all burn. far be it for India to lift a rifle, unless for posturing The situation in the sub-continent finally demands that we shed our 'India is a Dove of Peace' hubris and mobilize covert responses toward thwarting Pakistain's interference in negotiations of divvying up power in Afghanistan.

But of course, we won't.
It took 4 months for Turkey, which is already facing sanctions, to buy and receive their S400s from Russia. It took a year to negotiate the same trade for India, under no sanctions, and it'll take us another two to get even one system delivered.
I'm afraid one can only expect soft power support (in a rather non-committal sort of way) from allies like us.

Afghan forces likely will continue to clash with the Pakistani forces: Pentagon
[KhaamaPress] The U.S. Department of Defense has warned of continued clash between the Afghan and Pak forces along the Line of Durand.

Pentagon warned regarding the likely festivities in its latest reports titled Enhancing Security and Stability in Afghanistan.

The report said "The Afghanistan-Pakistain border region remains a sanctuary for various groups, including the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
and its component Haqqani Network (HQN), al-Qa’ida core (AQ), al-Qa’ida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT), Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), ISIS-K, and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU)."

The report further added "Terrorist sanctuaries on both sides of the border present security challenges for Afghanistan and Pakistain and pose a threat to regional security and stability."

Furthermore, Pentagon said Afghan cops likely will continue to clash with Pak forces along the border.

The report also added that "This strains limited resources and heightens regional tensions. Senior leaders of both countries accuse the other of using their security agencies to support bully boy groups that launch cross border attacks."

Meanwhile,
...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio wondered: Where the hell was Chumbaloni? And where was his $600?...
Pentagon said despite an escalating border skirmish in early May 2019, President Ghani and Pakistain’s Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
were effectively able to de-escalate the situation peacefully.

Pentagon also added that Afghanistan faces multiple internal threats, each of which receives significant support from external actors.

According to Pentagon report, the primary threat to Afghan stability is the Taliban, which receives sanctuary and support from many external actors.

Senior Hamas official calls on members of Palestinian diaspora to kill Jews

He ceased being Interior Minister in June 2014 on the formation of the Fatah-Hamas unity government, which worked brilliantly. rhetoric, also appears to urge Paleostinians in the West Bank to stab Israelis; another Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", official tries to distance terror group from remarks.

Fathi Hamad, a member of Hamas’s politburo who is considered a hard-liner and is known for his fiery rhetoric, made the statement in a speech at a protest in the border region between the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. "Our patience has run out. We are on the verge of exploding. If this siege is not undone, we will explode in the face of our enemies, with God’s permission and glory. The explosion is not only going to be in Gaza but also in the [West] Bank and abroad, if God wills," Hamad said, referring to significant Israeli restrictions on the movement of people and goods between Israel and Gaza.

"But our brothers [in the diaspora] are still preparing. They are trying to prepare. They are warming up. A long time has passed with them warming up. All of you 7 million Paleostinians abroad, enough of the warming up. You have Jews everywhere and we must attack every Jew on the globe by way of slaughter and killing, if God permits. Enough of the warming up," he added.

A Hamas official in Gaza tried to distance the terror group from Hamad’s comments, insisting that they do not represent its official position.

"These are personal statements that do not represent Hamas. They are no more than emotional comments that he may have said because of the killing of one of our members," the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the Israeli press, told The Times of Israel. "Our problem is not with the Jews, but rather the occupation and the Zionist movement that is occupying Paleostine."

In his speech, Hamad also appeared to call on Paleostinians in the West Bank to stab Israelis.

"O, the people of the West Bank, until when will you be quiet?" he said. "We want knives to come out. Five shekels. How much does the neck of a Jew cost? Five shekels or less?"

Hamas officials have frequently encouraged and praised stabbing, shooting and ramming attacks in the West Bank and Israel.

In the past year, Hamad has made a number of incendiary comments against Israel.

Iraq
Hundreds of Nineveh IDPs returned to home areas: Migration and Displacement ministry
[Rudaw] Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced the federal government-assisted return of hundreds of Iraqi IDPs to their home areas across the province of Nineveh, as the painstaking process of returning internally displaced persons (IDPs) who seek to travel home after years of violence continues.

In the past week, 423 IDPs were returned home from camps in the east and south of the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
to their home areas across Nineveh province, the Ministry claimed in a statement released on Sunday. Of the returnees, 142 were from Khazir and Hasan Sham IDP camps in the Kurdistan Region, while 281 of the IDPs were from the Jadaa, Hamam Alil, and Southern Mosul Airport Track camps.

"The Ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and the Joint Operations Command, dedicated buses to transport those IDPs who wish to return to their areas in Nineveh," the statement quoted Ali Abbas Jahagir as saying.

Trucks transporting the IDPs’ belongings, including furniture and electrical appliances, were also provided, he added.

Forming part of a longer term initiative in cooperation with the relevant authorities in the province to return IDPs home, Jahangir said, they returned to the Syrian border town of Baaj, Tel Afar, Tel Abta, al-Mihalabya, Hamidat, Northern Terminal, al-Nahrawan and Mosul’s city centre.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 1.7 million of a total 5.9 million IDPs in Iraq are still yet to return home after Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
swept through the north and west of Iraq in 2014, causing a civilian exodus from Nineveh and its neighbouring provinces.

Of internally displaced Mosul residents, around 300,000 are unable to return to their homes, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), two years after the city was declared liberated from ISIS.

Fierce urban warfare ravaged Mosul as the Iraqi Army fought to reclaim the city and its surrounding areas in 2017. Some 138,000 houses were damaged or destroyed, the NRC said, leaving swathes of the already devastated province uninhabitable.

The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
Mine Action Service (UNMAS) warned in June that 70 percent of mines and other explosive hazards remain uncleared in Nineveh and other areas of Iraq ravaged by war with ISIS, preventing millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from returning home.

Reconstruction has in part been hindered by the embezzlement of federal funds by Nineveh government officials, with an Iraq Integrity Commission report published in April claiming that around $64 million was stolen by former governor Nineveh Nawfal Hamadi and other officials.

Mosul’s residents have also complained of a widespread lack of jobs and services after their return, despite a flurry of government and NGO initiatives attempting to tackle the lack of available opportunities.

Inslee says he'll ask soccer player Megan Rapinoe to be secretary of State
[THEHILL] Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) said Saturday that if he is elected president, he will ask soccer player Megan Rapinoe to be his secretary of state.

He said at the progressive Netroots Nation conference that one of his first acts as president would be to get a secretary of State who embraces world unity and "love rather than hate" as he rebuked President Trump's foreign policy.

"My first act will be to ask Megan Rapinoe to be my secretary of State," he said. "I haven't asked her yet, so this could be a surprise to her."

"I actually believe this because what I think what she has said that has inspired us so much is such an antithesis of the president's foreign policies," he added.

Afghanistan
Afghan Special Forces arrest 10 Taliban militants in Kabul
[KhaamaPress] The Afghan Special Forces arrested ten Talibs during an operation in Kabul.

The informed military sources said Sunday that the Special Forces arrested the Talibs in Chahar Asyab district.

The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
group has not commented regarding the operation so far.

This comes as the security situation in some remote districts of Kabul has tanked during the recent months.

Talibs continuously attempt to expand their foothold in remote areas of Kabul including Chahar Asyab, Surobi and other key areas.

German Magazine Under Fire For Promoting Anti-Jewish Conspiracy
First an anti-American scandal, now an anti-Jewish/anti-Israel one. Der Spiegel is batting 1.000 in the fake news category.
[Jpost] The weekly magazine Der Spiegel has been plunged into a further fact-checking crisis after a massive backlash over its weekend publication alleging that two small pro-Israel organizations are directing German Middle East policy, with echoes of an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

Uwe Becker, the commissioner to combat antisemitism in the state of Hesse, wrote on Twitter: "The Spiegel must officially apologize for practicing Israel-related antisemitism. The article contains all the stereotypes that constitute antisemitism and is an example of how deep these though patterns are in mainstream society."

A team of six Spiegel journalists wrote in a three-page article that two organizations based in Germany ‐ Values Initiative and The Middle East Peace Forum (Naffo) ‐ are, according to the magazine’s headline, "controlling German Middle East policy."

Hickenlooper refuses to condemn protesters who hoisted Mexican flag at ICE facility
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] 2020 long-shot John Hickenlooper
... former governor of Colorado, yet another of 2020's innumerable Dem candidates. His selling points include being less grabby than Biden, less Cherokee than Warren, assuming that's possible, and taller than Gillebrand...
refused to condemn the protesters who removed an American flag and replaced it with a Mexican one during a protest outside an Immigration Customs Enforcement facility in Colorado.

Protesters assembled at the Aurora facility Friday to protest the widespread ICE raids that were scheduled to begin Sunday. Raising the Mexican flag after taking down the American flag, they also hoisted a Blue Lives Matter flag they had vandalized. The flag, which is meant to honor law enforcement, was spray-painted with the phrase "Abolish I.C.E."

Hickenlooper, a former governor of Colorado, addressed the events in a Sunday interview on Fox News' America's News Headquarters.

"Is that is something that, as a moderate, needs to be condemned?" Leland Vittert asked, in regards to the protest.

"I certainly respect the American flag. In my whole life I have been fighting to make this country and to make sure that this country welcomes everyone and that the flag represents everyone. I’m old enough I remember when people were burning the flag in protest of the Vietnam War," Hickenlooper answered. "The amazing thing about this country is we are the one place on Earth, or one of the few places on Earth, where that level of freedom of speech is still protected so I may not approve of it, but I think that that freedom is something we as Americans should recognize and say, 'Hey, that’s part of our core freedom.'"
He doesn't "approve" of it, see, but he won't "condemn" it. I don't approve of it, therefore I condemn it. But maybe that's just me.

#2  When aggressors get the idea that you won't defend your country they'll keep pushing. Next thing you know they'll be raising their flag every morning for real over the Colorado state capital building and Hickenlooper will salute it.

#3  These protesters left no doubt about their end game. It was an act of war and Hickenlooper calls it freedom of speech so now we know whose side he's on.

3 Turkish soldiers killed in clashes with PKK militants in southeast Turkey

...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
, the private news agency DHA reported.

The fighting occurred in Hakkari province, nestled up against the Iraqi and Iranian borders, DHA said, adding that three faceless myrmidons -which it termed terrorists- were also killed.

The PKK is mainly active in southeast Turkey, and it has rear bases in mountainous zones over the border in northern Iraq.

Two more F-35s land in Israel, bringing number in arsenal to 16
[IsraelTimes] Two more F-35 fighter jets landed in Israel today, bringing the number of fifth-generation stealth aircraft that the military acknowledges having in its arsenal up to 16.

The first two F-35 jets landed in Israel in December 2016. Approximately a year later, the stealth fighter ‐ known in Israel as the Adir ‐ was declared operational, and several months later the head of the air force revealed that the aircraft had conducted bombing raids, making Israel the first country to acknowledge using the planes operationally.

"The capabilities of the Adir Squadron adds another tier to the operational and strategic abilities of the air force, which ensures the air force’s superiority in all its missions, namely the protection and safety of the State of Israel’s skies," the IDF says.

Israel has agreed to purchase at least 50 F-35 fighter jets from the US defense contractor Lockheed Martin. They will be delivered in batches of twos and threes over the next few years. Israel is the second country after the United States to receive the F-35 from Lockheed Martin and one of the few to be allowed to modify the state-of-the-art aircraft.

"The ongoing procurement of the Adir is another expression of the long-term military cooperation between Israel and the US, which continues to produce exceptional results in the process of strengthening and streamlining [the F-35]," the army says in a statement.
