No need to wait for Congress to address mass shootings
[The Hill] After three mass shootings in the span of a week left 53 wounded and 34 dead, pressure is mounting on Congress to respond with legislation to restrict access to guns and ammunition. But there is no need to wait for new laws. There are steps that can be taken immediately ‐ ones unlikely to be controversial ‐ that evidence suggests could help prevent attacks or reduce the death toll from them.

Dozens of terror plots have been foiled by members of the public in the last 20 years after a tip-off (widely known as "see something, say something" since 9/11). Mass shootings and other forms of domestic terrorism might similarly be prevented if there were wider awareness of what exactly warrants a report to law enforcement.

In some cases, would-be perpetrators have posted pictures or videos of their weapons online, along with plans. But there are indirect warning signs that might also be worth reporting, such as someone studying how to carry out mass killings more effectively; being in active contact with a terrorist or extremist organization; acquiring (or trying to acquire) weapons specifically in order to engage in violence; or undergoing training or travel to join a violent cause.

If such red flags appear in social media feeds, especially by someone a user knows is not making a joke or trolling, it also needs to be easier to forward them to law enforcement. Facebook and Twitter and the like make it easy for users to report concerning posts (e.g. for violence, terrorism or suicide), but those reports, unless the company’s reviewers discern an imminent threat, remain internal to the company, and are used simply to determine whether to delete the post or suspend the account. There is no mechanism to forward a social media post directly to law enforcement to assess whether a full investigation is warranted. Facebook’s help page on reporting inappropriate or abusive posts just tells users to contact law enforcement if they feel threatened.

ATL attorney charged with murder after running over real estate neighbor exec with his MB
[Mail] An Atlanta attorney has been charged with murder over what police believe was a brutal road rage incident.
Bad hook turns deadly.
Bryan Keith Schmitt, 47, was indicted on on counts of murder, felony murder and aggravated assault on Friday over the death of Hamid Jahangard, 60, in the affluent area of Sandy Springs.

Schmitt hit Jahangard, a prominent real estate investor, with his 2011 model Mercedes CLS 550 on the morning of July 30.

Schmitt has maintained it was an accident, but investigators now believe the attorney deliberately plowed into Jahangard in a fit of fury.

The clash between the two men began when Schmitt's expensive sedan was hit by a golf ball purportedly thrown by Jahangard, who was standing near several trash cans at the end of a large driveway belonging to one of the rental properties he owned in the area.

Schmitt says that when he heard the golf ball hit his Mercedes, he stopped and made a U-turn to confront Jahanhgard.
Prestige golf neighborhood duel listing coming soon.

Was former AOC Chief of Staff Chakrabarti really the master mind behind the lunacy ?
[Red State] Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been oddly mute the past few weeks. This comes on the heels of her Chief of Staff being pushed aside to do other work for the Justice Democrats group (which kind of suggests that AOC was illegally coordinating with them, doesn’t it?).
Nancy might have pulled aside and said, 'get rid of that crazy SOB!'
While Saikat Chakrabarti was running the show, AOC was on social media daily to rant and rave about whatever seemingly came to mind. From pushing disasterous policies, to lying about conditions on the border, you could always count on her chiming in on nearly every issue.

Suddenly, that all stopped.

63-year-old teacher ditched Massachusetts to retire in the highlands of Panama
[Market Watch] Mary Taft lives with her two daughters, seven cats and two dogs in a mansion in Panama ‐ and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

But the former teacher and school administrator didn’t always know that a Panamanian retirement was in store for her. Indeed, as she consulted about where to move with her two adult daughters, dozens of spots were on the table. "We had this blue sky conversation ‐ where can we all go and live together," the 63-year-old former Springfield, Mass., resident says. "Canada was out because it was too cold. We wanted the tropics because we were sick of winter. We ruled out Asia because it was too far and the language barrier, Australia was too expensive."

The Spanish speaker had been to Latin America numerous times, and her older daughter, a musician, worked a lot in Brazil, so they began looking around there. They ruled out Belize because of a "lack of infrastructure," and Costa Rica because of its expense and "poor track record with health care," Taft says. But Boquete, Panama ‐ a lush, mild-weather town in the Panamanian highlands that’s popular with expats ‐ checked nearly all their boxes.

Barack And Michelle Purchase Fourth Palatial Estate, & This One Cost Nearly $15 Million
[Flag & Cross] Barack Obama: the every man.

Because average Americans can afford homes in Washington DC, Chicago, California, and Martha’s Vineyard, right?

How is it that Dems like Barry and Bernie Sanders "fight for" the poorest Americans while knowing they have multiple millions in the bank?

Mercury News:

The 6,892-square-foot property sits on 29 acres across from the Edgartown Great Pond. Built in 2001, it boasts seven bedrooms and nine baths and a bathhouse. There are two wings with a private deck off the master suite. It also features a pool, sprawling lawn and a beach, among many other amenities.

Thomas E. Leclair with LandVest MV is the current listing agent.

The Obamas apparently rented the home over the summer and are purchasing it from Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, according to the report.

Former first couple Barack and Michelle Obama are buying a mansion in Edgartown, Mass. for $14.8 million, reports Realtor.com.

Martha’s Vineyard has been a longtime favorite vacation spot for the former president and first lady, and now the Obamas will have a permanent home there.

#15  When the DOJ finally gets around to investigating Google for its many abuses of our competition laws - let alone its manipulation of our public debate and its interventions into the information dissemination that's part of our electoral process - this corrupt buffoon's revolving door with Google execs will be Exhibit A.

No one's been paying attention, but this coziness between Silicon Valley and Obama - and the payoffs now accruing to his bank account from the likes of Netflix - is the worst DC corruption scam since Teapot Dome.

Only corruption can explain the unconscionable, baffling refusal of our competition authorities to investigate and crack down on the many flagrant abuses of its market power that this company has engaged in, for more than a decade, as a standard operating procedure.

The Europeans fined them again and again for their serial abuses. They're in plain sight, known to everyone in the ad industry. And yet NOTHING has been done - NOTHING - by our Justice Department.

Florida man pushed to the ground by illegal parker convicted of manslaughter
[AP] A white Florida man who told detectives he had a "pet peeve" about illegal parking in handicapped spots was convicted late Friday of manslaughter for the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man outside a convenience store.

Six jurors deliberated for six hours in Clearwater before convicting Michael Drejka for the July 19, 2018, death of Markeis McGlockton. Drejka, who could get 30 years, looked down after the verdict was read then wiped his brow with a blue handkerchief. The 49-year-old Drejka was ordered held without bond until his sentencing in October. He stared straight ahead as he was handcuffed and led out of the courtroom.

The verdict came about a half-hour after jurors sent out a note saying they were confused by the state’s self-defense law. Circuit Judge Joseph Bulone told them all he could do is reread it for them.

The lengthy statute generally says a shooting is justified if a reasonable person under those circumstances would believe they are in danger of death or great bodily harm. But it also says the shooter could not have instigated the altercation.

Members of McGlockton’s family wept as the verdict was read and hugged and shook hands with the prosecutors after court was adjourned.

Nebraska Approves Path Of Keystone XL Pipeline
[Hot Air] Nebraska’s Supreme Court has approved the path of the Keystone XL pipeline, settling a court battle that has been going on for years. Naturally, this outcome is not sitting well with environmental groups like the Sierra Club.

Friday’s ruling stemmed from the Nebraska Public Service Commission 3-2 vote nearly two years ago in favor of an "alternative route" for the project instead of developer TC Energy’s preferred pathway. Opponents filed a lawsuit arguing the company didn’t follow all the required procedures for the alternative route, in violation of state law.
Lawfare™
Attorneys for the opponents argued that TC Energy’s application with the commission was valid only for its preferred route, and the company formerly known as TransCanada could seek approval only for one route at a time. Nebraska state attorneys disputed that claim, saying that the commission’s decision complied with the law and was in the public’s interest.

The court sided with the Public Service Commission. However, there is still a separate federal lawsuit in Montana that hasn’t been resolved and protesters are once again threatening to gear up as they did in North Dakota to oppose the Dakota Access Pipeline. Those efforts made a lot of news but eventually failed. The Dakota Access Pipeline was completed and has been pumping oil for more than a year now.

For opponents of Keystone XL, a change in their favor could come in 2021. Elizabeth Warren has already promised to revoke Trump’s permit for the pipeline if elected:

Chinese ship inches closer to Vietnam coastline amid South China Sea tensions
HANOI (Reuters) - A Chinese survey vessel on Saturday extended its activities to an area closer to Vietnam’s coastline, ship tracking data showed, after the United States and Australia expressed concern about China’s actions in the disputed waterways.

The Haiyang Dizhi 8 vessel first entered Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) early last month where it began a weeks-long seismic survey, triggering a tense standoff between military and coastguard vessels from Vietnam and China.

The Chinese vessel continued to survey Vietnam’s EEZ on Saturday under escort from at least four ships and was around 102 kilometers (63 miles) southeast of Vietnam’s Phu Quy island and 185 kilometers (115 miles) from the beaches of the southern city of Phan Thiet, according to data from Marine Traffic, a website that tracks vessel movements.

They will distance themselves in my opinion with China. They will be considered less to those in China.

Pres. Trump orders U.S. companies to "start looking for alternatives" to China
[CBS News] President Donald Trump is demanding that U.S. businesses "immediately start looking for an alternative to China," including bringing their manufacturing back to the U.S. The president issued the directive in a series of tweets on Friday morning after China hiked tariffs on $75 billion of U.S. products.

Mr. Trump's tweets heighten trade tensions between the world's two biggest economies, with China's latest countermeasures coming in retaliation for the U.S. planning to impose a 10% tariff on roughly $300 billion in Chinese imports starting next month and in December.

"Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing your companies HOME and making your products in the USA," Mr. Trump tweeted. "I will be responding to China's Tariffs this afternoon."

Overstock Founder CEO Patrick Byrne 'Men in Black' update
[PJ] Overstock founder and CEO Patrick Byrne decided to go public this week with information "about political espionage" in the 2016 election that he thinks will be "the biggest scandal in American history." The businessman said that he had gone to his mentor Warren Buffet for advice and that Buffet had advised him to come forward. What Byrne proceeded to allege in his 22-minute interview with Fox News' Martha MacCallum was his shady work as an informant for the FBI in 2015 and 2016.

"It's going to make some feds furious at me," Byrne told MacCallum Thursday night. "Their heads are going to explode." Byrne also claimed that former FBI director James Comey will "crap his pants" when he finds out that he has spilled the beans about the FBI's election-year espionage activities to the Department of Justice.

The business executive said that he didn't feel like it was safe to come out until the "rule of law" had returned to the country, explaining that he trusted Attorney General William Barr to set things right.

Trump announces increased tariffs on Chinese goods
[The Hill] President Trump on Friday announced plans to increase tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars in Chinese goods in a sweeping response to duties announced by Beijing earlier in the day.

Trump tweeted that a 10 percent tariff on $300 billion in Chinese goods set to go into effect on Sept. 1 would increase to 15 percent, and that an additional $250 billion being tariffed at 25 percent will be hit with a 30 percent tariff starting Oct. 1.

"China should not have put new Tariffs on 75 BILLION DOLLARS of United States product (politically motivated!)" Trump tweeted.

The move marks the latest salvo in Trump's trade war with China, which has dragged on for more than a year with few signs of a resolution in sight.

Beijing announced early Friday that it would levy $75 billion in tariffs on American-made goods that include cars and farm products. The latter would likely cause further financial harm to U.S. farmers who have already borne the brunt of the trade war with China.

Trump lashed out hours later, calling Chinese President Xi Jinping an "enemy" and tweeting that U.S. companies should seek "an alternative" to doing business in China.

2 NYC Women Admit To Attempting To Build Bombs For Terror Attack On US Soil
[911] Earlier today, at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, Asia Siddiqui and Noelle Velentzas, both citizens of the United States and residents of Queens, pleaded guilty to teaching and distributing information pertaining to the making and use of an explosive, destructive device, and weapon of mass destruction, intending that it be used to commit a federal crime of violence. When sentenced, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison.

"Inspired by radical Islam, Velentzas and Siddiqui researched and taught each other how to construct bombs to be used on American soil against law enforcement and military targets," said Assistant Attorney General John C. Demers. "They were thwarted by the excellent work of the agents, analysts and prosecutors who are responsible for this investigation and prosecution. For this, we are grateful."

"In an effort to implement their violent, radical ideology, the defendants studied some of the most deadly terrorist attacks in U.S. history, and used them as a blueprint for their own plans to kill American law enforcement and military personnel," stated United States Attorney Richard P. Donoghue. "Thanks to the tireless work of law enforcement, they were stopped before they could bring their murderous plans to fruition."

Tunisia: New Air Unit to Monitor Terrorists’ Infiltration via Shores
[AAWSAT] The Tunisian Ministry of Interior has announced setting up a new air unit reinforced by three Bell 429 helicopters. The unit will be assigned to monitor the Tunisian shores during disasters and health evacuation as well as prevent infiltration of terrorist members to the Tunisian tourist regions.

Security sources revealed that this unit would regularly oversee the Tunisian shores ‐ this would clamp down upcoming terrorist risks (around 1,300 km from the shores.) It would also observe the illegal migration towards Italian shores.

Tunisia declared a closed military zone in states of the western center in addition to an isolated region along the eastern border with Libya. Moreover, a berm and an electronic fence were built to limit repetitive infiltration of bully boyz from terror camps in Libya.

The Tunisian shores remained unsupervised, which demanded to form this unit to reduce terrorist threats.

Notably, Tunisian security reports affirmed that terrorist Seif Eddine Rizki who targeted a tourist hotel in Sousse (in the center of eastern Tunisia) on June 26, 2015, sneaked through the Tunisian shores facing Sousse.

He opened fire on a group of foreign tourists, killing 39. Most of the victims were British.

Bomb Kills Israeli Teenager Near Settlement
[AAWSAT] Three Israelis were maimed by a bomb in a Paleostinian attack near a settlement in the occupied West Bank on Friday, the Israeli military said.

A military front man said an Israeli man and his two children were "seriously injured" by an improvised bomb (IED) while visiting a spring near the settlement of Dolev, northwest of the Paleostinian city of Ramallah.

One of those maimed was treated at the scene and the other two were evacuated to hospital by an Israeli military helicopter, the front man said. The military said it was being treated as a terrorist attack.

Israel's Magen David Adom ambulance service said it was treating three people in "serious condition", including a 46-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, and an 18-year-old woman.

The hilly central region of the West Bank around Dolev is studded with olive groves and orchards and is popular with hikers.

Tunisian Presidential Candidate Detained over Tax Evasion
[AAWSAT] A judge ordered on Friday the detention of Tunisian presidential election candidate Nabil Karoui to face charges of tax evasion and money laundering, Mosaique FM radio reported.

Karoui's own Nessma TV channel reported he had been arrested as he travelled to Tunis.

The 56-year-old media magnate is one of the main candidates contesting the Sept 15 election following the death of President Beji Caid Essebsi.

A judge decided in July this year to bar Karoui from travelling abroad after weeks of investigation on suspicion of money laundering.

"Police arrested Karoui while we were on our way back from the city of Beja to Tunis," said Osama Khelifi, a political adviser to the candidate.

The election follows the death of Essebsi last month aged 92.

Tunisia's election commission has approved 26 candidates, including two women. They also include Prime Minister Youssef Chahed and former president Moncef Marzouki.

Death Sentences Upheld For Somali Child Rapists
[RADIOSHABELLE] An appeal court in north-east Somalia has upheld the death sentence

Aisha Ilyaas Aden was kidnapped, gang-raped and killed near her home in Galkayo, in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, in February.

The case caused uproar and sparked demonstrations across the country.

Ten suspects were initially arrested but the regional High Court found three of them guilty in May.

Prosecutors said they relied on DNA evidence for the first time to convict them.

US officials Confirm Israeli Strike on Iranian Arms Depot in Iraq
[AAWSAT] US officials have confirmed Israel was responsible for the bombing of an Iranian weapons depot in Iraq last month.

The confirmation comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly hinted his country was behind recent Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s in Iraq.

"I don't give Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
immunity anywhere," Netanyahu said in an interview Thursday.

Asked whether that means Israel is operating in Iraq, he said: "We act in many arenas against a country that desires to annihilate us. Of course I gave the security forces a free hand and the instruction to do what is needed to thwart these plans of Iran."

According to the News Agency that Dare Not be Named, two American officials said Israel carried out a July attack on a weapons depot - used by the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) - that also killed two Iranian military commanders.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the matter with news hounds.

Early Friday, the New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

, citing Israeli and US officials, reported Israel bombed an Iranian weapons depot in Iraq last month.

A senior Middle Eastern intelligence official said Israel bombed a base north of Baghdad last month, while two American officials said Israel carried out multiple strikes in Iraq in recent days, the Times reported.

PMF’s deputy commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis has been unequivocal in blaming Washington for the blasts.

But Faleh al-Fayyad, the official head of the PMF, has walked back the accusations, saying investigations were ongoing.

"Preliminary investigations" found the incidents were "an external, premeditated act," he said.

"The investigations will continue until the responsible entities are accurately identified to be able to take the appropriate stances."

PA President Abbas: ‘Millions Of Fighters' Will Take Over Jerusalem
So, unveil the iron fist in the velvet glove. Smack these assholes. Cut off ALL funds
[Free Beacon] 'Not a single penny' of payments to terrorists will be stopped

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas threatened this week that "million of fighters" would swarm Jerusalem and topple the Jewish state's capital city, warning that "no matter how many houses and how many settlements they declare that they [plan to build] here and there‐they shall all be destroyed."

Abbas, in an Arabic language speech at Jalazone Refugee Camp near Ramallah that was heavy with threats of destruction, doubled down on the Palestinian government's policy of using public money to pay convicted terrorists and their families, telling his audience, "We will not accept their designation of our martyrs as terrorists. Our martyrs are the martyrs of the homeland."

Abbas went on to rally those in attendance to swarm the city of Jerusalem and destroy all Jewish people living there. His remarks are the clearest sign to date that the leader has no interest in playing a role in a revamped peace process spearheaded by President Donald Trump's White House.

"To Jerusalem we march, martyrs by the millions!" he was quoted as saying, according to a translation by the Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI, a media watchdog site.

"We shall enter Jerusalem‐millions of fighters! We shall enter it! All of us, the entire Palestinian people, the entire Arab nation, the Islamic nation, and the Christian nation," Abbas said. "They shall all enter Jerusalem."

Homes and cities built by Jews and other ethnic groups living in Israel "will all go to the garbage bin of history," Abbas said.

"We shall remain [here], and nobody can remove us from our homeland," the leader continued. "If they want, they themselves can leave. Those who are foreign to this land have no right to it. So we say to them: Every stone you have [used] to build on our land, and every house you have built on our land, is bound to be destroyed, Allah willing."

Pivoting to the payments for convicted terrorists, a policy known as pay to slay, Abbas said the payments will never cease, despite increasing international pressure from the West.

"We will not accept their designation of our martyrs as terrorists," Abbas said. "Our martyrs are the martyrs of the homeland. We will not allow them to deduct a single penny from their money. All the money will go back to them, because the martyrs, the wounded, and the prisoners are the most sacred things we have."

About 8,000 Paleostinians gather at the Gaza border to protest. They threw dozens of bombs, stones and grenades at the fence and IDF troops, while others tried to breach the perimeter.

The IDF also announced earlier that four suspects, apparently children, crossed the perimeter fence in the northern Gaza Strip, but returned to the Paleostinian side of the fence immediately.

These protests are part of the "right of return" marches.

The protests come after a 17-year-old girl, Rina Shenrav, was killed and her father and brother, Eitan and Dvir, severely injured in the West Bank earlier Friday afternoon. The girl was buried at the Lod cemetery at 3:30pm Friday afternoon.

Her brother and father are both still in the hospital in stable, pH balanced condition.

During the night IDF troops hit a terrorist attempting to infiltrate Israel, who threw grenades at fighters.

The Qatari envoy is still reportedly in the Gaza strip.
The Times of Israel has slightly higher numbers:

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said 122 Palestinians were wounded in the clashes, 50 of them from Israeli fire.

The IDF photographed Palestinians holding up a banner with a swastika on it.

Also Friday, the Fire and Rescue services said an incendiary balloon launched from Gaza sparked a small brush fire in the Eshkol Regional Council. Firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze.

Sri Lanka ends emergency four months after Easter attacks
[DAWN] Sri Lanka has ended a four-month state of emergency declared after Easter suicide kabooms by turbans that killed 258 people, officials said on Friday.

President Maithripala Sirisena has been extending the emergency on the 22nd of each month since the April 21 attacks on three hotels and three churches. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
his office confirmed that Sirisena had not extended it for another term and thereby allowed the emergency to end on Thursday.

"The president did not issue a fresh proclamation extending the emergency by a further period," an official source said.

The official government printer also confirmed that there was no notification reimposing the state of emergency, which gives sweeping powers to police and security forces to arrest and detain suspects for long periods.

The Sri Lankan government used the emergency as it tightened security across the country and hunted members of a local krazed killer group which was held responsible for the attacks and which claimed allegiance to the krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS) group.

Police have said that all those directly responsible for the suicide kabooms have either been killed or arrested.

This week Sri Lankan Tourism Minister John Amaratunga said he had asked the president to relax the draconian law to signal to foreign holidaymakers that the situation in the country was back to normal.

UN's Guterres Urges World to Stamp out Religious Persecution
[AAWSAT] Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
urged the world on the first international day to remember the victims of religious persecution to "step up to stamp out anti-Semitism, anti-Moslem hatred, the persecution of Christians and other religious groups."

The UN chief on Thursday cited a rise in attacks against individuals and groups around the world, saying: "Jews have been murdered in synagogues, their gravestones defaced with swastikas; Moslems bumped off in mosques, their religious sites vandalized; Christians killed at prayer, their churches torched."

Guterres said the first International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion and Belief was an opportunity to show support by doing "all in our power to prevent such attacks and demanding that those responsible are held accountable."

He urged people everywhere to resist and reject those who "falsely and maliciously invoke religion to build misconceptions, fuel division, and spread fear and hatred."

Europe
Boat with 356 Migrants Docks in Malta as 6 Countries Accept to Welcome them
[AAWSAT] La Belle France said Friday it will take 150 of the 356 migrants colonists disembarking from a humanitarian ship in the Mediterranean Sea after six Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an countries agreed to accept all of them.

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner tweeted that the 150 will be welcomed in La Belle France "in the coming days."

He added: "Together, we managed to build a European solution."

The Norwegian-flagged rescue ship Ocean Viking, with a stated passenger capacity of around 200, picked up the people in four rescue efforts off Libya from Aug. 9-12.

The migrants colonists are being disembarked in Malta from the vessel and distributed to La Belle France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Romania.

Requests for a safe port were previously denied by Malta and ignored by Italia, according to Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and SOS Mediterranee, the two charities running the ship.

MSF welcomed Malta's decision to take ashore the migrants colonists rescued. But the group also questioned why it took so long, calling for permanent European solutions.

Jay Berger, operations manager for Doctors Without Borders on board the Ocean Viking, said: "We are relieved that the long ordeal for the 356 people on board with us if finally over but was it necessary to keep them waiting for two weeks of torment?"

In a statement, he added: "This is about people who have fled desperate conditions in their homelands and have survived the horrific violence in Libya."

He said once the rescued migrants colonists have left the ship, the Ocean Viking will continue with its mission after restocking supplies and refueling.

The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
also welcomed Malta's decision and the pledges made by the European countries to welcome the migrants colonists.

EU Migration Commissioner Dmitris Avramopoulos said in a statement that "these commitments must now be honored and materialized swiftly."

The EU's border and asylum agencies will help screen people before they are relocated.

WaPo: Islamist Militants ‘Targeting Christians’ in Burkina Faso
[BREITBART] The Washington Post reported Thursday that Islamic bandidos holy warriors have been singling out Christians for execution in a remarkably honest exposé of the situation.

Post writer Danielle Paquette noted that jihadist death squads have been checking people’s necks for Christian symbols, killing anyone wearing a cross, crucifix, or some other Christian image.

As Breitbart News reported last month, Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
Bishop Laurent Birfuoré Dabiré has publicly condemned the ongoing, targeted slaughter of Christians by Islamic radicals, warning it could lead to the elimination of a Christian presence in Burkina Faso.

"If this continues without anyone intervening, the result will be the elimination of the Christian presence in this area and ‐ perhaps in the future ‐in the entire country," Bishop Dabiré told Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), a Catholic organization providing assistance to persecuted Christians around the world

Since January 2019, there have been five major jihadist attacks on Christians in the country, ACN reported in July, the last of which happened in late June.

"It happened in the neighboring Diocese of Ouahigouya," the bishop said. "The Islamists arrived and forced everyone to lie on the floor. Then they were registered, and four of them who were carrying crucifixes were killed for being Christians."

After the massacre, the jihadists told the other villagers that if they did not convert to Islam, they would also be killed.

These assassinations "followed attacks on churches in the West African nation that have left at least two dozen people dead since February," Ms. Paquette stated in her Wednesday piece.

"A spreading Islamist insurgency has transformed Burkina Faso from a peaceful country known for farming, a celebrated film festival and religious tolerance into a hotbed of extremism," she said.

She also noted that attacks by bandidos holy warriors with ties to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS
or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. and al-Qaeda "have quadrupled since 2017 in Burkina Faso," and the environment of terror has driven some 70,000 people from their homes since January.

Billionaire David Koch, Who Used His Wealth to Reshape U.S. Politics, Dies at 79
[WSJ] David Koch, the billionaire libertarian who gave more than $1 billion to charitable causes but was better known for using his money to reshape U.S. politics, died Friday. He was 79 years old.

His family released a statement Friday saying, "While we mourn the loss of our hero, we remember his iconic laughter, insatiable curiosity, and gentle heart." According to a statement from Koch Industries Inc., Mr. Koch fought various illnesses over many years.

Mr. Koch, whose net worth of about $50.5 billion tied him with his brother as the world’s 11th-richest person in Forbes magazine rankings, gained most of his wealth from a 42% stake in Wichita, Kan.-based Koch Industries, which has interests ranging from oil to beef to paper and is the second-largest closely held U.S. company.

A longtime New York resident, Mr. Koch was until retirement in June 2018 an executive vice president of the family company.

Though he was a liberal on social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, Mr. Koch used his fortune to support conservative causes that favor lowering taxes, free trade and fewer regulations. He was the Libertarian Party’s 1980 vice-presidential candidate.

With his surviving older brother, Charles Koch, the chairman and chief executive of Koch Industries, Mr. Koch created a network composed of like-minded wealthy donors brought together to back conservative causes.

They were credited with helping finance the limited-government Tea Party movement that helped Republicans win control of the House in 2010 during President Obama’s first term.

Their support of conservative causes became a lightning rod for Democrats, raising the ire of then-Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, who in 2014 called Mr. Koch and his brother "un-American" and accused them of "trying to buy America" through campaign cash.

The network the brothers built includes more than 700 donors who give $100,000 or more a year, as well as a group called Americans for Prosperity that has chapters in 36 states. In terms of its influence on the conservative agenda in the U.S., the network is rivaled only by the Republican Party.

Megadonors such as the Kochs were able to grow their influence after the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, which allowed unlimited spending, both directly and indirectly, by outside groups.

The Koch brothers didn’t back Donald Trump in his 2016 campaign for president, but their political network has lauded his administration’s efforts to loosen regulations. The Kochs, though, have been critical of the president’s policies on trade and immigration.

Mr. Koch’s significant philanthropy to nonpolitical causes was widely lauded. A one-time college basketball star, he literally loomed large‐at 6-foot-5-inches tall‐over New York society as a fixture at splashy galas and as one of the city’s most generous philanthropists.

He donated more than $1.3 billion of his fortune to charity, including gifts to the State Theater of New York at Lincoln Center‐renamed the David H. Koch Theater‐New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, all in Manhattan.

Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1992, Mr. Koch had in recent years suffered from deteriorating health, according to the letter announcing his retirement from business and political activities. Over decades, Mr. Koch funneled some of his largest donations to cancer research, most notably to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan and to his alma mater, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., for the founding of the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research.

In speaking of his philanthropy, Mr. Koch described himself in interviews with The Wall Street Journal as a "sugar daddy" for charitable causes with a "moral obligation" to give. He preferred to donate his money to outstanding institutions rather than "use it on buying a bigger house or a $150 million painting," he said. "I really want to put my money to work making the world a better place."

Lebanon: People of the South Rule Out New War with Israel
[AAWSAT] In his latest speech, Hezbollah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
said that in the next war with Israel, the people will "see a live broadcast of the destruction of Israeli brigades."

Hezbollah has grown "500 times stronger" since the 2006 war with Israel, Nasrallah said in a televised speech as the movement marked the anniversary of what it called its military "victory" in Bint Jbeil in southern Leb near the Israeli border.

But in cities and towns bordering Israel, residents ruled out another war with the country.

Hussein Qataya, a Hezbollah rival who has announced his candidacy for by-elections in Tyre district, told Asharq al-Awsat that the party’s "popularity has been dwindling."

He said that Nasrallah has only resorted to the war rhetoric to hit on the people’s nerves ahead of the elections.

Hussein Ezzedine, another southerner, said that the people of south Leb will not allow Hezbollah to fire missiles by using civilians as human shields to prevent a scenario similar to the 2006 war when Israel carried out Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on civilian infrastructure and displaced thousands.

As for a woman, who only wanted to be identified by her first name as Faten, she ruled out war.

"The party has the capabilities to confront Israel, but ... it will not do so because it knows that the people of the south are already economically dead," said the woman, who hails from the city of Tyre.

A man called Youssef, the owner of a restaurant, said he would return to La Belle France if there was another war with Israel.

"We have already been burdened by an economic war," he told Asharq al-Awsat.

India will attempt 'false flag operation' to divert attention from occupied Kashmir, PM Imran warns
[DAWN] Prime Minister Imran Khan

...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
"I want to warn the international community that the Indian leadership will in all probability attempt a false flag operation to divert attention from its massive human rights violations and the unleashing of a reign of terror in IOJK [Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir]," said the premier via Twitter.

"We are hearing Indian media claims that some gunnies from Afghanistan have entered IOJK for terrorist activities, while others have entered India's southern regions. These claims are predictable to divert attention from India's ethnic cleansing and genocide agenda in IOJK," he added.

The prime minister's comments come as Indian premier Narendra Modi visits La Belle France ahead of the G-7 summit.

According to AP, French President Emmanuel Macron in his meeting with Modi on Thursday pressed for dialogue with Pakistain over the crisis in occupied Kashmir.

As part of his three-nation tour, Modi will visit the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain next. In the UAE, Modi will be conferred with the nation's highest honour, the Order of Zayed, according to Hindustan Times. Modi's visit to Bahrain will be the first ever by an Indian prime minister.

Earlier on Wednesday, in an interview with The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

, Prime Minister Imran had expressed concern that India might undertake a deceptive "false flag operation" in Indian Kashmire to try to justify military action against Pakistain, adding that Pakistain would be forced to respond.
Khaama Press quantifies:
The Indian security officials have claimed that Pakistain is planning to bring at least 100 bully boyz from Afghanistan to Kashmir in the wake of the recent tensions between the two countries.

The officials have further added that Pakistain is attempting to carry out a series of attacks in Kashmir.

The officials have also added that the plan is to demonstrate to the world that the situation in Kashmir is deteriorating following the revocation of Article 370.

An Indian military source has told the Times of India "We have credible intelligence that Pakistain is bringing over 100 hardcore bully boyz from Afghanistan and they will be pushed into Kashmir in the next few weeks."

Meanwhile,
...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio wondered: Where the hell was Chumbaloni? And where was his $600?...
the officials have said at least 15 Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
bully boyz are already waiting at the terror launch-pads in Lipa valley along the Line of Control on the Pak side to infiltrate in Kashmir.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
NBC News: ‘Heterosexuality Is Just Not Working’
Ugh. But that does mean there will be less competition for my descendants.
[BREITBART] Women are increasingly opting out of heterosexuality because it is "the bedrock of their global oppression," NBC News asserted in a bizarre opinion piece this week.

"Men need heterosexuality to maintain their societal dominance over women," writes Marcie Bianco for the NBC News website. "Women, on the other hand, are increasingly realizing not only that they don’t need heterosexuality, but that it also is often the bedrock of their global oppression."

Ms. Bianco lumps together a series of recent news stories, "from Jeffrey Want Some Candy, Little Girl? Epstein
...A high class pimp financier who was alleged to maintain a stable of underage whores sex slaves who were paid big bucks to entertain the rich and/or famous. He is a registered sex offender and made att least 17 out-of-court settlements with former members of his stable, with some cases still ongoing. 2011 court docs reveal that 21 email addresses and phone numbers for Bill Clinton and an aide were found in Epstein's electronic black book, and that Clinton frequently flew with Epstein on his private plane between 2002 to 2005. But really, they were probably just discussing finance or politix or something. While getting massaged. Then things got serious, Jeff was tossed in the slammer in New York and then he killed himself. Really. That's what happened...
to the Dayton and El Paso mass shooters, to Miley Cyrus’s separation and Julianne Hough’s declaration that she’s ’not straight,’" which, she says, "together have laid bare the strictures of an American patriarchy on the edge of a nervous breakdown."

"As the status quo, heterosexuality is just not working," she concludes, before explaining just how evil men are and how women are learning to live without them.

"As a snapshot of 2019 America, these stories present a startling picture: Men continue to coerce, harass, rape and kill girls and women ‐ and go to extreme lengths to avoid responsibility for their actions," she states. "On the other side of the issue, girls and women are challenging heterosexuality, and even absconding from it altogether."

"Patriarchy is at its most potent when oppression doesn’t feel like oppression, or when it is packaged in terms of biology, religion, or basic social needs like security comfort, acceptance and success," Ms. Bianco declares.

"Heterosexuality offers women all these things as selling points to their consensual subjection," she concludes, in a painful piece of contorted logic that reveals far more about the writer than it does about society and its institutions.

"Historically, women have been conditioned to believe that heterosexuality is natural or innate, just as they have been conditioned to believe that their main purpose is to make babies ‐ and if they fail to do so, they are condemned as not ’real,’ or as bad, women," she pronounces.

Europe
Germany Receives Four 'ISIS' Orphans
[AAWSAT] For the first time since declaring the eradication of ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
in March, the German government has received four children whose parents were part of ISIS from the Kurdish-led autonomous administration in northeastern Syria.

The four children are three girls and one boy, the oldest of which is ten years old. The father of the girls was killed in battles in Deir al-Zour countryside.

These children used to live in al-Hawl Camp that has become a shelter for those fleeing regions that were seized by ISIS earlier. The camp includes today 72,000 persons, of which 90 percent is children and women.

Some of the countries that received their nationals are Denmark that received one orphan, Netherland that received two orphans in June. The same number returned to Trinidad in January while Norway was handed out five children in July, and the US received five women along with five children in the same month.

The total of those who returned to their home countries is 319 women with their children, in addition to orphans whose fathers were killed in battles in Syria.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
Iraqis represent the highest population in the camp with 30,875 persons and 8,746 households living there. While 30,593 Syrians from 8,983 reside in the camp.

The camp has a special section for foreign women and their children coming from Arab and Western countries. Around 10,734 reside there including 3,177 women while the rest are children below the age of 15. Yet, this section is subject to strict security supervision in which women are not allowed to go out without a written permission and are accompanied by security members.

Security in Srinagar intensified following call for march to UN office, Indian soldier killed in border clash
[DAWN] Indian authorities intensified patrols on Friday in Srinagar, occupied Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....

...boodling on the grand scale...
office to protest New Delhi’s tightened grip on the disputed region.

Police and paramilitary soldiers re-imposed restrictions on traffic in areas where they had been eased, putting steel barricades back up and laying razor wire across roads, bridges and intersections.

Posters bearing the name of the Joint Resistance Leadership, comprising three Kashmiri leaders fighting Indian occupation in Kashmir, appeared on Thursday across Srinagar, urging people to march to the UN office after Friday prayers.

The posters called for preachers to educate the public about the "explosive situation arising from India’s political, geographical and demographic plans" in Kashmir.

India Says Soldier Killed in Kashmir Border Clash

[AnNahar] An Indian soldier was killed by Pak forces on the Kashmir border, the military said Friday, as a tense lockdown in the region of seven million residents continued for the 19th day.

The Indian soldier was manning a post in mountainous Rajouri district Friday when he came under "unprovoked fire" from across the border, local media reports said.

A New Delhi-based Indian Army front man confirmed the incident to AFP.

The death was the fourth claimed by the Indian side since the August 5 decision to strip the region's special constitutional status.

Pakistain's military has said five people including three soldiers have died in shelling by Indian forces.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian Regime Forces Surround Turkish Army Post
[AAWSAT] Regime forces surrounded a Ottoman Turkish military observation post on Friday after overrunning nearby villages following their capture of the key northwestern town of Khan Sheikhoun from opposition fighters, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The town of Morek, where the Ottoman Turkish troops have been cut off, lies in the north of Hama province, part of the opposition-ruled region centered on neighboring Idlib province that has been under regime assault since late April.

"Regime forces have surrounded the Ottoman Turkish observation post in Morek after capturing other towns and villages in this pocket," the Observatory said.

Opposition fighters had withdrawn from the area ahead of the army's entry into Idlib province’s Khan Sheikhoun on Wednesday.

Government forces overran the rest of the pocket, including the town of Kafr Zita without resistance.

The observation post in Morek is one of 12 the Ottoman Turkish army set up along the front line between government forces and the opposition fighters last year.

Ankara vowed on Tuesday that it would not abandon any of the posts and warned Damascus "not to play with fire".
Ankara: "Our soldiers will fight and die painfully and horribly before retreating"
Turkish soldiers: "Wait...what?"

"We will do whatever is necessary to ensure the security of our soldiers and observation posts," Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told news hounds in Ankara.

Syrian Army declares full control over Khan Sheikhoun after short battle

[AlMasdar] On Thursday, the Syrian Arab Army’s High Command announced that the strategic city of Khan Sheikhoun was under the military’s control after a short battle

The Syrian Arab Army was able to fully secure Khan Sheikhoun after entering the city from all axes on Wednesday; this was followed by a thorough combing operation to ensure that Khan Sheikhoun was cleared of all explosives and holy warriors.

While Khan Sheikhoun was not declared under the Syrian Army’s control until Thursday, all of the turbans from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
and Jaish al-Izza had already withdrawn from the southern part of the city by Wednesday.

One of the major reasons Khan Sheikhoun fell so quickly to the Syrian Army was due to the military’s capture of the strategic hilltop of Talat al-Nimr.

Talat al-Nimr is a large hilltop that overlooks both the northern sector of Khan Sheikhoun and the Hama-Idlib Highway (var. M-5 Highway)..

Bangladesh
Bangladesh Offers Repatriation to Rohingya Muslims, None Accept
[BREITBART] The government of Bangladesh on Thursday cleared 3,450 Rohingya Moslem refugees to return to their homes in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, but not a single one of the 295 families approached by Bangladeshi and United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
officials was willing to go. The Bangladeshis were left with a line of empty trucks and buses pointed at the Myanmar border.

According to Sky News, some Rohingya whose names were on the repatriation list actually hid from officials so they would not be returned. Both Bangladesh and the United Nations have given assurances that repatriation will be strictly voluntary.
"For now"
Rohingya leaders stated they will not consider returning home unless the government of Myanmar meets a set of security demands, chief among them an end to their awkward status as a stateless people. Myanmar refuses to recognize the Rohingya as citizens, and does not even see them as a distinct ethnic group.

The refugees also want safety guarantees, the return of property seized when they were subjected to a campaign of ethnic cleansing, and justice for the Myanmar troops and leaders who mistreated them.

"We need a real guarantee of citizenship, security and promise of original homelands. So we must talk with the Myanmar government about this before repatriation," Rohingya leader Muhammad Islam told Al Jazeera on Thursday.

The office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) confirmed that not a single family they interviewed was willing to consider repatriation. A similar repatriation effort in November was equally unsuccessful.

Even if they had accepted, the 3,450 Rohingya invited to return would have been a tiny fraction of the roughly 740,000 refugees currently packed into the world’s largest refugee camp in Bangladesh, a ghastly city of ramshackle shelters stretching to the horizon where human trafficking is one of the major industries.

Algeria's Protests Enter 7th Month
[AAWSAT] Algerians on Friday were back on the streets reiterating their demands for the removal of the ruling elite as the country's protest movement entered a seventh month with no let-up in sight.

Crowds of demonstrators who thronged the capital and key cities across the country rallied to cries of a "Free and democratic Algeria" and a "Civil state, not a military one".

They directed their wrath at army chief Ahmed Gaid Salah, who has emerged as the key powerbroker since president Abdelaziz Bouteflika
...10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and served on his third or four terms. When he announced for the fifth, or maybe it was the sixth, visibly doddering, a grateful nation rose up in its wrath and threw him out...
resigned in April in the face of mass protests.

They also vented their ire against Karim Younes, an ex-speaker of the lower house appointed by authorities to head a national dialogue to pave the way for presidential elections.

The protest in Algiers dispersed calmly in the late afternoon, while demonstrations in other major cities likewise passed off without disturbances, according to local journalists.

In July, Bouteflika's interim successor Abdelkader Bensalah proposed a national dialogue without state or military involvement.

Elections planned for July 4 were postponed, after the only two candidates -- both little-known -- were rejected by electoral authorities.

The demonstrators have repeatedly demanded key regime figures step down -- and credible institutions be established -- before any polls.

The protesters have so far maintained a united front, taking to the streets every week since February.

Only a few opposition parties have so far agreed to meet with Younes and his dialogue committee, including a party headed by former prime minister Ali Benflis.

Newsweek: Time to Rethink Taboo on Cannibalism?
[BREITBART] Since cannibalism is found throughout the animal kingdom and therefore is something natural, perhaps it is time for humans to rethink the "ultimate taboo" against eating human flesh, Newsweek proposes in an article Wednesday.
Note that cannibalism isn't even included among the Seven Deadly Sins. It's too horrible.
There is nothing necessarily unethical or unreasonable about eating human flesh, declare psychologists Jared Piazza and Neil McLatchie of Lancaster University, but careful reasoning over the merits of cannibalism is often "overridden by our feelings of repulsion and disgust."
Lemme see here... Practical reasons not to eat Grandmaw when she keels over?... Most humans die from disease, rather than accident or murder. This was even more true back when we were living in caves or lean-to's. If Mr. Ugh pegged out from plague and you ate him, guess what you got? Betcha this one was discovered shortly after humans branched off from the chimps--it didn't take an awful lot of brain power to associate cause with effect..
While not going so far as to recommend cannibalism, saying "there is no need to overcome our repulsion for the foreseeable future," the two authors suggest that humans could master their aversion for human flesh if they needed to.
Ask any survivor of the Donner Group.
"Many people develop disgust for all kinds of meat, while morticians and surgeons quickly adapt to the initially difficult experience of handling dead bodies," they note. "Our ongoing research with butchers in England suggests that they easily adapt to working with animal parts that the average consumer finds quite disgusting."
Morticians and butchers are two entirely different professions.
Moreover, the psychological revulsion experienced over the prospect of consuming human flesh is not the product of reason and may even contradict reason, they argue in Wednesday’s article, which originally appeared last week in The Conversation.
Gnawing on a dead guy does bring with it a certain amount of psychological revulsion. It's not the product of reason, and I think I'd go with instinct in this case.
"Survivors of the famous 1972 Andes plane crash waited until near starvation before succumbing to reason and eating those who had already died," they propose.
That sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
All sorts of animals eat members of their own species, from spadefoot tadpoles and Australian redback spiders to gulls and pelicans, they state.
Guppies do, too, but no humans but politicians eat their own.
And cannibalism can even be found among mammals, they add, such as with many rodents as well as bears, lions, and chimpanzees.
A dead mouse or rat can lie in a cage with the live ones, and as long as the live ones are properly fed, they'll leave the corpse alone.
Yet humans seem entrenched in their conviction that anthropophagy is simply wrong, no matter how many conditions are placed on hypothetical scenarios.
Possibly because it's objectively wrong?
Human revulsion toward cannibalism stems from our tendency to associate "personhood and flesh," the authors propose, even when the flesh in question is no longer living.
Going back to Granny being dead, she rocked you when you were young, fed you snacks, and indulged you. So you're gonna eat her? Mom's looking a little rickety, too. Where's the hatchet?
Even if we can bring ourselves to deem cannibalism morally acceptable, they contend, "we can’t silence our thoughts about the person it came from" and so our "bias" against eating human flesh persists.
If I had any religious standing at all, I'd tell these guys that what they're talking about is a sin by definition, and a lot more of a sin than mere murder. Corpse abuse of any sort brings revulsion under most circumstances (and I realize there are those when it doesn't, but I think even those bring it in retrospect.)
"The way we interact with animals shapes the way we categorize them. Research shows that the more we think of animals as having human properties‐that is, as being ’like us"’‐the more we tend to think they’re gross to eat," they note.
It would be easy enough to raise monkeys for meat. I haven't heard of anyone doing that. Gorillas and chimps are sometimes hunted, but it's pretty rare.
While noting in passing that "philosophers have argued that burying the dead could be wasteful in the context of the fight against world hunger," the authors ultimately do not propose breaking this taboo "for now," saying that "we’re as happy as you are to continue accepting the ’wisdom of repugnance.’"
Instinct is a pretty good guide. Don't eat Granny, don't jump your sister, and stay away from bears. Violate those simple rules and something bad happens. Granny might not have plague, your sister might be on birth control, and the bear might be caged, but the primitive side of your brain will still tell you not to.

#2  Kuru
To use the sharing features on this page, please enable JavaScript.
Kuru is a disease of the nervous system.

Causes
Kuru is a very rare disease. It is caused by an infectious protein (prion) found in contaminated human brain tissue.

Kuru is found among people from New Guinea who practiced a form of cannibalism in which they ate the brains of dead people as part of a funeral ritual. This practice stopped in 1960, but cases of kuru were reported for many years afterward because the disease has a long incubation period. The incubation period is the time it takes for symptoms to appear after being exposed to the agent that causes disease.

Kuru causes brain and nervous system changes similar to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Similar diseases appear in cows as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also called mad cow disease.

The main risk factor for kuru is eating human brain tissue, which can contain the infectious particles.

Symptoms
Symptoms of kuru include:

Arm and leg pain
Coordination problems that become severe
Difficulty walking
Headache
Swallowing difficulty
Tremors and muscle jerks
Difficulty swallowing and being unable to feed oneself can lead to malnutrition or starvation.

The average incubation period is 10 to 13 years, but incubation period of 50 years or even longer have also been reported.

If you want to concentrate pathogens then eat people.

#12  There is nothing necessarily unethical or unreasonable about eating human flesh, declare psychologists Jared Piazza and Neil McLatchie of Lancaster University.

Jared Piazza is a Lecturer in Social Psychology at Lancaster University. He received his PhD in Cognition and Culture at Queen's University, Belfast.

Dr. McLatchie's research involves prosocial and antisocial behaviors, specifically punishment of deception whatever the fuck that means.

These two dimwits were probably trying for an attention seeking risqué paper, then decided to go the full rabbit hole and ended up exposing their own peculiar idée fixe.

Our ongoing research with butchers in England suggests that they easily adapt to working with animal parts...

Maybe they just like to sit and watch bodies being cut up.

Academic research into human dysfunctions or deviant behavior is a career predisposition functional psychopaths often gravitate to.

The unconscious desire is to discover and expose human frailty in all it's delectable forms. They do not approach the sciences with solutions as the aim, endeavoring just to see the pathetic nature of the being they hate most. You may find them in the medical profession too. Some psychiatrists, surgeons and specialists can often be utter misanthropes, their successes powered only by psychopathic drive and vanity.

Arabia
‘Southern Revolutionary Movement’ Describes Aden Developments as a Struggle for Power
[AAWSAT] The Supreme Council of the Southern Revolutionary Movement has stressed that the council is closely following the crisis in southern Aden through communicating with all parties to reach calmness.

Head of the council Fouad Rashed called for calm, not to spur the southern struggle and achieve everyone's joint goal which is to face the Iranian supported-Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
insurgency to reach negotiations.

Rashed warned in statements to Asharq al-Awsat newspaper that favoring a southern bloc no matter how much arms and popularity it owned would spark a struggle in different forms.

Preferring a southern bloc would push other southern components to find a military arm, said Rashed, adding that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is the most entitled to accommodate all of the southerners and it is capable of this because it's a huge country and it leads the coalition to find one southern platform.

The head of the supreme council noted that there is continuous communication with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) for the sake of reaching calmness, following recent events in Aden and several southern provinces.

At the same time, he criticized mandating the STC during the demonstration of millions in 2017. Rashed stated that the supreme council called for several demonstrations and never snatched a mandate.

Since 2007, the supreme council had been defending the southern case through peaceful struggle and not relying on arms or forming a military arm, said Rashed. In 2015, the council participated in confronting Houthis and many leaders fell as deaders or were maimed, he added.

Yet after the victory and liberating Aden, the supreme council handed out the weapons and resumed its work. Rashed expressed rejection to any southern struggle and described the latest developments in Aden as a struggle for power.

Over $1M worth of cocaine found hidden in banana boxes at Washington Safeway stores
[NYPOST] Officials in Washington state have opened an investigation after employees at three Safeway stores reported finding over $1 million worth of cocaine that was hidden in boxes of bananas.

The contraband was first reported at a Safeway in Woodinville, about 20 miles northeast of Seattle, on Sunday, the King County Sheriff’s Office said.

Employees were opening a box of bananas and found 22 kilos of cocaine ‐ the equivalent of over $550,000, according to Sherlocks.

Later that day, employees at a Safeway in Bellingham ‐ in northwestern Washington, near the Canadian border ‐ found about 100 46 23 kilos of cocaine while unloading banana shipments, Q13 Fox reported.

Additional cocaine turned up in banana shipments at a Federal Way Safeway, but the total amount was unclear.

The origins of the cocaine remained a mystery.

"We do know it was all shipped from a central warehouse, but we don’t know where it originated yet, so that’s a work in progress," said Sgt. Ryan Abbott of the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) was handling the investigation, he added.

LNA Accuses Qatar of Being 'Terrorism Base'
[AAWSAT] The Libyan National Army (LNA) ‐ commanded by Chief Marshal Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...

Sudan Sovereign Council Member: We Haven’t Yet Reached State of Emergency Stage
[AAWSAT] Mohammed Alfaki Suleiman, a member of Sudan’s newly-formed Sovereign Council, revealed it was too son to announce a state of emergency over heavy rainfall that has caused floods across the country.

In an interview with Asharq al-Awsat, Alfaki said that during a meeting held between the Council and Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, discussions focused on ways to confronting urgent matters, such as floods and torrential rains, and a conflict in the city of Port Sudan.

Alfaki warned that there could be more floods in the coming days because of persistent rainfall but denied that the situation has reached a point of announcing a state of emergency.

The 11-member Sovereign Council and the prime minister were sworn in this week. And a government is expected to be formed soon, said Alfaki.
