Modi Awarded The King Hamad Order Of The Renaiissance In Bahrain
Don't ask me what Bahrain has to do with the renaissance, though. It probably ain't a big deal, but it's enough to keep Pakistain weeping and shaking their heads.
[IndianExpress] Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday was honoured with "The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance" as he held talks with King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on various bilateral and regional issues.

Prime Minister Modi's visit to Bahrain is significant as it is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the country.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance. This was announced by His Majesty the King of Bahrain," the Prime Minister's Office said in a tweet.

Modi is on the third leg of his three-nation tour to France, the UAE and Bahrain.

Modi arrived here after wrapping up his visit to the UAE where he held talks with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and discussed measures to improve trade and cultural ties between the two countries.

Modi was also honoured with the 'Order of Zayed', the UAE's highest civilian award, as a mark of appreciation for his efforts to boost bilateral ties between the two nations.

From Bahrain, Modi is scheduled to return to France on Sunday to attend the G7 Summit meeting.

France invites Iran to G-7: 'We operate on our own terms'
Figures that the Frogs would sell out for $. That punk Macron needs a bitch slap
[Was Times] A senior French official says France invited Iran’s foreign minister to the venue of the G-7 summit to try to ease tensions over its nuclear program.

The official said the decision to invite Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday to the Group of Seven summit in Biarritz, France, came after the G-7 leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, gathered for dinner Saturday night.

Asked whether the White House was aware of the visit, the French official said "we operate on our own terms" but noted that Macron and Trump met for two hours yesterday and discussed Iran at length, as well as at the group dinner with other leaders.

The French official, who was not authorized to be named publicly, said that France considers it important to check in with Zarif to continue to bring positions closer together and de-escalate tensions.

The official said the Americans in Biarritz will not meet with Zarif, and that France "is working in full transparency with the U.S. and in full transparency with European partners."
You're transparent, alright

China-Japan-Koreas
Trump Is Playing a Long Game With China
[Real Clear Politics] America has the upper hand in the ongoing trade negotiations with China, and the temporary reprieve that President Trump recently gave the Chinese regime is only further proof that our strong economy grants us a degree of flexibility that Beijing can't hope to match.

There are a lot of misconceptions about the president's announcement that he is postponing certain tariff increases on China.
deliberate misperceptions
It's true that this temporary delay addresses the one area where short-term access to cheap consumer goods has the potential to noticeably impact U.S. consumers: Christmas gifts. Overall, consumer goods are not rapidly inflating in price, and the postponement will ensure that nothing of the sort takes place during the busiest shopping season of the year.

But, the relentless pressure that President Trump's strategic counter-tariffs have put on China and its export-dependent economy is not stopping. Trump did not eliminate the tariffs. He partially delayed 10% tariffs on the half of Chinese imports yet to see increased levies. Some will still be implemented as planned on Sept. 1, with the rest going into effect Dec. 15 ‐ unless, of course, Beijing meaningfully demonstrates its desire to reach an equitable trade deal before then.

China seems to be playing hardball, trying to wait out the Trump administration in the hopes that a new administration will return to complacency toward China's rampant trade abuses. But that's a long time to endure the pain that Trump's tariffs are already inflicting on the Chinese economy.

For example, the president's recent delay gives American companies that are in the process of transitioning their manufacturing out of China more time to complete that transition. Big tech companies are already taking their manufacturing out of China. Retailers are pulling out as well.

According to the Nikkei Asian Review and The Wall Street Journal, Apple is considering moving 15% to 30% of its production capacity from China to Southeast Asia as part of "a fundamental restructuring of its supply chain." When announcing the recent tariff delay, the president noted that Apple CEO Tim Cook made a "very compelling argument" for delaying the tariffs as they would aid Apple competitors such as Samsung, which manufactures its products in South Korea.

Once supply chains move out of China, it will be difficult to get them back. Moving production out of a country can be expensive and time consuming -- as can moving it back.
Diversification of supply sources makes sense in a turbulent region

#1  Suppose years of "cheap Chinese" causes one US factory after another to close. And then thousands of retail jobs hinge on only one manufacturer who goes off the rails and sinks a US war ship. And warns that retaliation will result in no more products causing thousands of retail stores to close. Trump is right. Better start finding other suppliers before things go South for whatever reason.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
NASA investigates the first allegation of criminal activity in SPACE
[Daily Mail - Where America Gets its News] Astronaut is accused of accessing her wife's bank account from the International Space Station during their messy divorce

* Astronaut Anne McClain was accused of accessing her estranged wife Summer Worden's bank account while she was in space
* Worden filed an identity theft complaint with the FTC against McClain
* Her parents also filed a complaint with NASA's Inspector General
* McClain said that she was just checking up on Worden's finances
* Worden's parents claim that McClain's actions were part of a custody battle over her son, who she gave birth to a year before the couple were married

NASA is looking into claims that an astronaut accessed her estranged wife's bank account from space during a six-month stint on the International Space Station.

Decorated astronaut and US Army lieutenant colonel Anne McClain has been accused of improperly gaining access to Summer Worden's online bank account using NASA computers, the New York Times reported.

McClain allegedly accessed the bank account as part of a 'highly calculated and manipulated campaign' to obtain custody of Worden's son, who she had given birth to about a year before the couple got married.

Worden, a former Air Force intelligence officer, brought a complaint against McClain with the Federal Trade Commission, claiming that McClain had committed identity theft, even though none of Worden's funds had been tampered with.

#2  ...Reality check: the US military has no problems taking people off difficult/dangerous duty when there are things in their personal life that keep them from focusing. Happened to me in 85-86 when my son was born; my wife had a very difficult and dangerous pregnancy and the Air Force didn't want me working with 20mm rounds and missiles if I couldn't keep my mind on it. When my son was born healthy and happy, I was moved right back, and there were no ill effects to my career.

NASA almost certainly knew that LTC McClain was in the middle of an ugly divorce/custody battle, yet they let her go up anyways and in fact had her scheduled for the first all-female spacewalk...which, interestingly, never came off. I know enough about NASA to know that the bottom line here was that NOBODY had the stones to ground a gay female astronaut scheduled for a high-visibility activity, because they were afraid of the shiatstorm that would have followed. I suspect now that the spacewalk got cancelled because NASA finally figured out something was up, not the bullshiat 'the suits don't fit' they fed the media. She had done a spacewalk in the 'too big' suit just a week earlier and reported no problems. The fact that the spacewalk didn't happen at all with people who could fit in the suit should tell you everything you need to know about how important it was to ISS operations.

Thirty-three years ago, a crew died and a multi-billion dollar spacecraft was lost because no one at NASA wanted to 'look bad'.Wonder what their excuse would have been if LTC McClain had managed to seriously damage something, kill herself or kill someone else because she wasn't focused...?

A bomb factory in a beach town may be key to Spain's terror attacks
Alcanar, Spain (CNN) Nuria Gil had heard rumors of men squatting in a vacant property around the corner from her home, but she had never seen them herself.

She had little reason to be suspicious -- the quiet Spanish beach village where she has lived for almost 20 years is filled with holiday houses. People come and go all the time.

But on Wednesday night a deafening bang rocked Gil, 50, from her sleep. She ran outside to see smoke billowing from what remained of the property down the road.

The powerful explosion had leveled the one-story house in the Montecarlo neighborhood of Alcanar, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured.

It wasn't until the following afternoon, when a van mowed down crowds of people in the heart of Barcelona, that authorities began to piece together the significance of the blast.

Iran Issues Sanctions on Top Trump Admin Officials, Sen. Cruz
LOL No flying carpets or pistachios for you!
[Free Beacon] Cruz spox: 'Cruz already avoids travel to terrorist regimes that take American citizens hostage
Iranian lawmakers are preparing to issue a salvo of sanctions on top Trump administration figures and their supporters in Congress, according to reports in the country's state-controlled press that have already elicited reaction from those officials targeted.

Iran's parliament has set the stage for Tehran to sanction White House National Security Adviser John Bolton, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) for what Iranian officials have described as their "long record of animosity towards Iran."

The sanctions would ban each of the Americans from ever traveling to Iran, bar them from engaging in any sort of talks with Iranian regime figures, and deny them the ability to trade with any Iranian entity.

"The bill calls for lifetime bans on U.S. National Security Adviser John R. Bolton, U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin, and American senator Ted Cruz and their family members' traveling to Iran, in a reaction to Washington's embargos on Iranian officials, and these figures' strong hostile measures against Iran in the past few years," Iran's state-controlled Fars News Agency reported, adding the measure is payback for Bolton, Mnuchin, and Cruz seeking to isolate the Islamic Republic.

Ben & Jerry's Unveils New Antifa-Inspired Flavors
[Babylon Bee] SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT‐Ben & Jerry's has long been known for the ice cream company's political activism, introducing flavors that support many progressive causes.

The company has done it again with its exciting new Antifa-inspired flavors, the sale of which benefits the anti-fascist organization that bravely stops fascism by force and silencing those they disagree with.

The new flavors include Vegan Coconut Milkshake with Real Concrete Mix, Blood of the People You Disagree With, and Antifa Protester B.O. All the flavors are made with real ingredients, whether that's blood harvested from people that Antifa threw a brick at or actual sweat from Antifa rioters.

"Delicious!" said one Antifa taste-tester in Portland before throwing his half-finished Vegan Coconut Concrete ice cream at a conservative reporter standing nearby. "It's great to know I'm supporting a wonderful cause like fighting Nazis with my ice cream purchases. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to find undesirables and utilize violence against them."

At your local Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop, you can even get your Antifa ice cream customized with great new toppings like Molotov cocktail drizzle, real bread crumbs from a Soviet breadline, and bits of dog meat from Venezuela.

Ex-counterintelligence official warns Trump administration not to be shortsighted on Huawei
[The Hill] Former Obama-era counterintelligence official Nate Synder warned Tuesday that the Trump administration should not take any short-cuts on its approach to Huawei.
I would not want that young lady standing behind me with a Makarov.
"They are insidiously smart," Synder, who is now a senior adviser for Cambridge Global Advisors, told Hill.TV of the Chinese telecommunications giant.

"They are playing a long play here and they’re looking at all different angles," he added, noting that Huawei is building a 5G network across Russia and China. "I hope the administration doesn’t look at the short-sightedness of just saving profits and revenue."

Synder’s comments come just a day after Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross confirmed that the Trump administration is again delaying a penalty on Huawei until Nov. 19.

President Trump in May first directed the Commerce Department in May to place Huawei on its "Entity List." The move was seen as a death sentence for U.S. companies, who, under the guidance, are banned from doing business with the firm.

Bah! They have been manipulating barbarians according to the same playbook for millennia. Their chief advantage is they don't think quarter-to-quarter like our Wall Street 'Geniuses' . They are used to spending years and decades if necessary to corrupt and manipulate foreign agents to do their bidding. Their customs of "exchanging gifts for 'favors' ", what we would think of as "bribery", is just what they do as normal practice.

Another year or so before Obama Center breaks ground in Chicago
The fight to stop or modify the proposed Obama Center in South Chicago is still going on.

The fight (ironically the anti Center protagonists are community organizers) is centered on two federal requirements. One involves compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and the various regulations, court rulings, memos, etc. that go with it. The second involves compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the regulations, etc.

The Chicago City planning department has the lead on compliance with these requirement. The department currently estimates the end of the NHPA compliance process by the fall of this year and end of the NEPA process by the spring of 2020 (typically, sponsors of projects underestimate the time required for both the NHPA and NEPA processes.

There will almost certainly be a required modification of current plans and that will delay construction for at least a few months after the end of the NEPA process.

Britain
Britain sends third warship to Gulf amid heightened tensions in region
[IsraelTimes] Officials say HMS Defender will take part in efforts to ’keep essential trade routes secure’ after recent shipping conflicts with Iran.

A third British warship is heading to the Gulf, the Royal Navy announced Saturday, amid heightened tensions in the region.

Britannia has already sent the HMS Kent to cover for frigate HMS Montrose while it undergoes maintenance in nearby Bahrain, and is now redirecting the Type 45 destroyer HMS Defender from its mission to the Pacific.

The HMS Defender sailed from Portsmouth on August 12, alongside HMS Kent, which was also heading to the Gulf to replace the HMS Duncan.

HMS Defender’s commanding officer Richard Hewitt said his boat would "play her part alongside other Royal Navy warships in keeping these essential trade routes secure."

Britannia, Australia and Bahrain have signed onto a US-led maritime security mission to protect international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

The British Defense Ministry announced this month that Royal Navy vessels will work alongside the US Navy to escort vessels through the busy strait off Iran’s coast. The US has been asking its allies to take part in a naval mission to protect shipping in the strait, though other Europe

IDF releases new photos of manhunt for terrorists who killed Rina Shnerb
[Jpost] The IDF on Saturday night continued to scour the West Bank for the Paleostinians responsible for the bombing at the popular Ein Buvin water spring, that killed Rina Shnerb and maimed her father Eitan and brother Dvir, 19.

During the manhunt Ribhi Abu al Safa and Mohammed Abu al Safawere were arrested in the village of Ein Arik close to Ramallah. Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", member Israr Ma'arouf, a student at Birzeit University who has spent time in Israeli jails, was arrested in the nearby village of Ein Qiniya.

Details regarding the arrests and the identity of the three men were publicized on social media and in the Paleostinian media. The IDF has not linked the trio to the attack, stating only that they were arrested during the manhunt and are now being interrogated.

Qatar increases number of Gaza beneficiaries of aid

i cash grants.

Paleostinians whose names appear on the ministry’s list have been asked to head to the post offices in the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-ruled coastal enclave on Sunday to receive the cash.

The Qatari Committee for the Construction of the Gaza Strip, headed by Mohammed Elamadi, announced on Friday that it has nearly doubled the number of beneficiaries ‐ from 60,000 two months ago to 100,000 poor families.

Each family will receive $100 in cash.

The announcement came shortly after Elamadi arrived in the Gaza Strip early Friday through the Erez border crossing with Israel.

Sunday’s distribution of the grants will be the seventh since Qatar began delivering millions of dollars in cash to the Gaza Strip last year.

The Qatari envoy said that the increase in the number of beneficiaries of the cash assistance grant this month "comes within the framework of easing the suffering people of the Gaza Strip in light of the difficult humanitarian conditions they are living, particularly on the eve of the beginning of the new academic year for school and university students.
The distribution of the funds is expected to continue for several days.

On Friday evening, Elamadi met in Gaza City with Hamas big turbans and discussed with them the Qatari funds and the ceasefire understandings reached between Hamas and Israel under the auspices of Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations

. The Hamas officials who attended the meeting included Ismail Haniyeh

, Yahya Sinwar, Rouhi Mushtaha and Khalil al-Haya.

A Qatari official said that his kingdom’s decision to continue delivering cash grants to the Gaza Strip was in the context of an effort to prevent an all-out military confrontation between Israel and Hamas. "We are aware that such a confrontation will bring extensive damage to the residents of the Gaza Strip," the official said. "We will do everything we can to avoid total destruction in the Gaza Strip."

The official said that Qatar was worried in wake of mounting tensions between Israel and Hamas after several recent attempts by murderous Moslems to infiltrate into Israel. The Qatari envoy will continue to work with Israel and Hamas to prevent war and improve the security and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the official added.

#12  TW, Memphis in May is pretty cool. The IBC events are ok too. MiM Music festival has devolved into a Who’s Who of shite performers playing the latest and greatest of pedestrian “music” that’s all the rave on the radio stations. If you’re into teenybopper stuff or hip hop then you will love it. The Blues Tent is still good. The BBQ festival the following week is a pretty grand event. The only problem is that unless you know a cooking team, there’s really not much to do other than walk around and look. There are now some teams that open their booths to the public. But it’s pretty much pronto pups and funnel cakes unless you know someone. If y’all like blues, I recommend Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, MS. Usually in April. Daytime events are family friendly. Nighttime events are not for the feint of heart. Unless you’re a boozer or druggie, nighttime stuff is out anyway. Monkeys ridin’dogs is a must see there. Little macacs dressed in cowboy duds riding border collies round up a bunch of sheep. Regardless if you do come to the IBC or MiM I will gladly serve as an ambassador to Memphis/escort-at-arms for you and Mr. Wife. Same to any other ‘Burgers who would like a tour.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Drone Falls, Another Explodes over Dahiyeh
Twitter got there first, as usual.
[AnNahar] One drone came down and another went kaboom! early Sunday in a Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
stronghold in Beirut's southern suburbs, a Hizbullah official told the AFP news agency.

The incident came hours after Israel launched air strikes in neighboring Syria but the official could not confirm if the drones were Israeli or if they had been shot down by Hizbullah.

Lebanese security forces cordoned off the area in the Moawwad neighborhood, a few dozen meters from a Hizbullah media center, as residents gathered, and where forces from Hizbullah were also present.

"There were two drones -- the first fell and was neutralized, the second went kaboom!," a Hizbullah official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Leb and Israel are technically still at war, and Leb regularly accuses Israel of violating its airspace with planes and drones.

Israel has fought several conflicts against Hizbullah, the last in 2006.

In recent years those hostilities have spilled over into Syria, where the group -- like Iran, another long-time enemy of Israel -- is fighting on the side of the regime of Bashir al-Assad.
All very straightforward, but then there’s this from The Times of Israel, which would explain earlier tweets about Iron Dome set up in northern Israel and Israeli squadrons on high alert:
People in the Lebanese capital said a large explosion shook the area and triggered a fire.
The Times of Israel has a brief video at the link, but I’m not sure it conveys any useful information.
Late Saturday night Israel said its jets carried out strikes in Syria to prevent an Iranian force from launching an attack on Israel with drones armed with explosives.

In a briefing to news hounds early Sunday, military front man Jonathan Conricus said the Israeli air force "was able to thwart an Iranian attempt led by the Quds force from Syria to conduct an attack on Israeli targets in northern Israel using killer drones."

A Syrian military source quoted by the official Sana news agency said anti-aircraft defences had "detected enemy targets from Golan heading towards the area around Damascus."

"The aggression was immediately confronted and so far the majority of the enemy Israeli missiles have been destroyed before reaching their targets," the source added.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes in Syria, most of them against what it says are Iranian and Hizbullah targe

They said they heard an aircraft flying just before the blast and reported later that the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group sealed off the area. The blast occurred near the group’s media office in the Moawwad district.

Journalists on the scene were not allowed to film or take pictures. One building appeared to be slightly damaged where the drone went down. A man was seen taking away metal parts in a white plastic bag that he said contained parts of the aircraft that went down.

The Israeli military said it does not comment on “foreign reports.”

Israeli warplanes fly over Lebanon regularly and have struck inside neighboring Syria from Lebanese airspace on numerous occasions. Israel also uses drones to monitor Hezbollah activity in southern Lebanon, according to Beirut.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was holding an emergency meeting with defense officials overnight amid the heightened tensions.

An attack that never happened.

We attacked their base:

Hez: Before you get too cocky, remember the old line from the IRA: "We only have to get lucky once; you have to be lucky all the time".

Observer:
1. According to #lebanese reports and pictures, #Hezbollah downed to #Israeli drone over the #Dahyeh Neigborhood #Beirut . One looks like the DJI Matrice 600 Pro (Hex) and the other one like the DJI Matrice 100 (Quad). Both are in used in the #IDF. The interesting thing is...

2. not the use of the drones which are widely used for multiple purposes such as Riot Control etc. The shortest distance between the Israeli border and #Beirut is 60kms approx. Those drones can fly at a 40mph max speed, with hovering time varying from 20 mins to 40 mins depending

3. on the payload weight, battery longevity and foremost the communication link which needs an unobstructed LOS of 5 kms max. Having said that and after a bit of Math and logics, the drones were already at close proximity of #Hezbollah HQ's in #Beirut

4. Those Drones downed in #Beirut if confirmed they were #IDF's would have been just a message to #Nasrallah #Hezbollah : "Hey, we are right here at your doorstep, we can smuggle stuff under your nose too". Good old PSYOPS combined with real capabilities on ground/air.

On Visiting Civil War Battlefields
BLUF
On Gettysburg

[NR] Abraham Lincoln knew this, and he marked that place mere months after the battle with his famous address. "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here." We know from contemporaneous accounts that, as he concluded, Lincoln emphasized his words in a way that those who read them aloud today often neglect: "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." We visit the grounds of Gettysburg, and of the war, to sustain our memory of why those battles took place and still matter today ‐ in defense of the Union and its republican constitutional democracy, the form of government that best respects the natural equality and rights of all people.

It is grim, perhaps, to tread the steps where both armies marched, to revisit a time when our nation was at war with itself. It is grimmer still to cherish these places where Americans killed one another, to preserve them with care, to mark them with stones and placards and statues for the men we lost. But it is good for us to remember what they did, and why they did it.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US-Turkey Syria operations center at full capacity: Minister, Syrian Kurds to help
[AlAhram] A US-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
operations centre aimed at creating a safe zone in northern Syria is operating at "full capacity", Ottoman Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said Saturday.

Under an agreement reached between Ankara and Washington earlier this month after difficult negotiations, the joint operations centre will help coordinate the establishment of a buffer between the Ottoman Turkish border and Syrian areas controlled by the US-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

"The centre of joint operations has begun to operate at full capacity," Akar told state news agency Anadolu.

He said the first joint helicopter flight took place on Saturday afternoon.

Akar's statement comes shortly after the YPG military group -- which has been a key US ally in Syria but is deemed by Turkey to have terrorist links -- said they would help implement the buffer zone in their areas along the Ottoman Turkish border.

Ankara considers the YPG to be an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) which has fought a bloody insurgency inside Turkey for 35 years and is classified as a "terrorist" organization by Turkey, the US and EU.

Turkey has repeatedly threatened to launch a new military offensive against YPG forces in northern Syria, where the Kurdish group controls a large swathe of land.

The operations centre was initially suggested by Washington to dissuade Ankara from carrying out another cross-border attack, after previous offensives in 2016 and 2018.

The YPG has been a key partner to Washington in the fight against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Syria.

But as the fight against IS winds down in the region, the prospect of a US military withdrawal stoked Kurdish fears of a long-threatened Ottoman Turkish attack.

Details of the safe zone are currently hazy, and no date has been set for its implementation

Syria Kurds Say Will Help Implement US-Turkey 'Safe Zone'

[AnNahar] Syria's Kurds said on Saturday they would support the implementation of a US-Turkey deal to set up a buffer zone in their areas along the Turkish border.

The so-called "safe zone" agreed by Washington and Ankara earlier this month aims to create a buffer between the Turkish border and Syrian areas controlled by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

The YPG have played a key role in the US-backed battle against the Islamic State group in Syria, but Ankara views them as "terrorists".

On Saturday, Mazloum Kobani, the head of the YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces, said his alliance would back the deal.

"We will strive to ensure the success of (US) efforts towards implementing the understanding... with the Turkish state," he said.

"The SDF will be a positive party towards the success of this operation," he told journalists in the northeastern town of Hasakeh.

US Central Command said late Friday that the SDF -- which expelled the Islamic State group from their last patch of territory in eastern Syria in March -- had destroyed outposts in the border area.

"The SDF destroyed military fortifications" on Thursday, it said in a statement on Twitter.

"This demonstrates (the) SDF's commitment to support implementation of the security mechanism framework."

On August 7, Turkish and US officials agreed to establish a joint operations centre to oversee the creation of the "safe zone".

Little is known about its size or how it will work, but Ankara has said there would be observation posts and joint patrols.

Damascus has rejected the agreement as serving "Turkey's expansionist ambitions".

As the fight against IS winds down, the prospect of a US military withdrawal had stoked Kurdish fears of a long-threatened Turkish attack.

Turkey has already carried out two offensives into Syria in 2016 and 2018, the second of which saw it and allied Syrian rebels overrun the Kurdish enclave of Afrin in the northwest.

Jaysh Al-Izza rumored to be dissolving itself after Hama losses
[ALMASDARNEWS] The hard boy group, Jaish al-Izza, is allegedly dissolving itself after suffering a series of losses at the hands of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in northern Hama and southern Idlib.

According to reports, the once U.S.-backed group is dissolving itself because they lost a great deal of fighters and most of their weapons as a result of the recent Hama batte.

Jaish al-Izza was primarily headquartered in the northern Hama towns of Kafr Zita and al-Latamnah before the Syrian Arab Army announced the capture of these areas on Friday.

If these reports prove true, this would be a major loss for the hard boy forces, as Jaish al-Izza was once one of the most powerful groups in the northwestern region of Syria.

Previously, Jaish al-Izza was one of the few hard boy groups that was armed with the U.S.-made anti-tank TOW missiles; however, Washington later withdrew their support for these hard boys.

Bomb suspects nabbed in Thai south
[Bangkok Post] A man was killed in a drive-by shooting in Pattani province and gas cylinders that could be used for making bombs were seized in a separate incident in Narathiwat province.

Police in Thung Yang Daeng district of Pattani were alerted on Friday afternoon when two men on a motorcycle shot Muhammad Ama in front of a mosque in Thung Yang Daeng. He died on the spot. An initial investigation found the victim was about to return home from prayers when one of the perpetrators fired one shot at him and sped away.

Police have yet to establish the motive for the shooting.

In Narathiwat on Saturday morning, marine officers searched an area in Bacho district after receiving a tip about the suspects who had detonated a bomb targeting a marine patrol team earlier. They found the suspects, a Glock 19 pistol, bullets and some crystal methamphetamine.

They later searched a house and found a number of tools. They also found two steel air-conditioning coolant cylinders, which had already been cut open, and some steel rods. The components could be used in assembling improvised bombs, which officers believe would be used to attack security personnel.

The Internal Security Operations Command earlier ordered the replacement of steel gas cylinders with composite ones in the three southernmost provinces. That apears to have forced insurgents to look for different materials.

Tunisia's Karoui remains presidential candidate despite arrest
[Al Jazeera] Nabil Karoui, the Tunisian media mogul arrested on charges of money laundering and tax evasion, remains in the race for next month's presidential election despite his detention, an electoral official has said.

"As long as there are no changes in his legal status and no final verdict, Nabil Karoui remains a presidential candidate," Nabil Baffoun, the head of the electoral commission, told news hounds on Saturday.

Tunisian police arrested Karoui on Friday in a move his party, Qalb Tounes, called a politically-motivated attempt to exclude him from the September 15 election race.

A government official quoted by Rooters news agency rejected that accusation, saying the arrest was "a judicial matter that has nothing to do with the government".

Karoui, 56, owner of the Nesma TV channel, is one of the frontrunners contesting the presidential election following the death last month of 92-year-old President Beji Caid Essebsi - the first head of state to be democratically elected in Tunisia following the popular uprising of 2011.

East Africa’s forgotten slave trade
In which the German reporter is shocked to be told that the East African slave trade to the Muslim world began in the 7th century, a thousand years before Europeans got involved, and while toothless laws were passed against the trade in the 19th and 20th centuries, the trade continues. But really, it is the fault of the Africans themselves for taking a profit instead of building internment camps for their tribal war captives. Key facts: males slaves for the Muslim market were castrated, three out of four slaves sent to the Ummah died along the way, and slave markets recently reappeared in Libya. BLUF:
[DW] Author N'Diaye estimates that 17 million East Africans were sold into slavery: "Most people still have the so-called Transatlantic [slave] trade by Europeans into the New World in mind. But in reality the Arab-Muslim slavery was much greater," Senegalese author Tidiane N'Diaye said.

"Eight million Africans were brought from East Africa via the Trans-Saharan route to Morocco or Egypt. A further nine million were deported to regions on the Red Sea or the Indian Ocean."

But in the middle of the 19th century, Stone Town in Zanzibar became the major slave trade center for Eastern Africa. Every year, about 40–50,000 slaves were taken to Zanzibar.

Iran puts US think tank FDD on its target list.
[Twitter]

Foundation for Defense of Democracies
The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) is a policy institute (or think tank) based in Washington, D.C., focusing on national security and foreign policy. Its political leanings have been described variously as nonpartisan, hawkish and neoconservative. FDD holds events throughout the year, including its annual Washington Forum, briefings on Capitol Hill, expert roundtables for public officials, diplomats, and military officers, book releases, and panel discussions and debates within the policy community.

The Long War Journal is one of its projects.
They said this kind of thing for Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses when it first came out, but never succeeded in actually reaching him. And there have been threats for years about the Iranian refugee population in Detroit and elsewhere, who are supposed to be under the thumb of the IRGC, but only a few have ever been caught spying or supplying Iran over the years. So hopefully this will also be a lot of smoke with very little fire. But a word to the wise, nonetheless.

"The fact that the president just went back on his word to do universal background checks should be front page and these other moves by Trump are likely designed to distract from that," he continued.

Bernie Sanders Arrives In Hong Kong To Lecture Protesters On How Good They Have It Under Communism
OUCH
[Babylon Bee] HONG KONG‐As soon as Bernie Sanders heard about the democratic protesters in Hong Kong, he knew something had to be done. The U.S. senator quickly chartered a flight to Hong Kong in order to throw himself into the fray.

Sanders bravely stood in the middle of the conflict between police and protesters, shouting at the "ungrateful little dissenters" that they don't know how good they have it under a Communist regime.

"Remember, you could have it a lot worse---you could be in America!" Sanders bellowed as police officers for the totalitarian regime beat protesters in the background. "Hey, you! You on the floor there! You're not looking very appreciative of living in one of the greatest Communist countries on earth!" Sanders continued his long-winded rant about the need for the government to own the means of production, how great breadlines are, and how bad things are in capitalist America as protesters got dragged away by police to be disappeared.

"Just think---in America, we have to pick between 14 different types of deodorant!" he said, his fingers flopping around like limp sausages.

According to sources, Beto O'Rourke is planning on joining Sanders to inform Chinese citizens how lucky they are that they don't live in a racist country like America.

The trial court disposed of the case of attack on polio worker in a short span of one month, in which Musharaf Bibi and her daughter, Nasima Bibi had beaten up lady health worker Shazia Bibi when she entered their house for administering polio drops to children.

The polio worker had sustained multiple injuries in different parts of her body when she fell into a drain after having been kicked by Nasima Bibi.

The prosecution proved the allegations before the court while the accused was given a fair chance to prove her innocence.

A part of the fine would be paid to the injured, while the convicts would face cases in case of non-payment of the fine.

Google tells workers to avoid arguing politics in house
[DAWN] Google on Friday told employees to focus on work instead of heated debates about politics with colleagues at the internet company, which has long been known for encouraging people to speak their minds.

Updated workplace guidelines for "Googlers" called on them to be responsible, helpful, and thoughtful during exchanges on internal message boards or other conversation forums.

"While sharing information and ideas with colleagues helps build community, disrupting the workday to have a raging debate over politics or the latest news story does not," the updated guidelines stated.

"Our primary responsibility is to do the work we've each been hired to do, not to spend working time on debates about non-work topics."

The updated guidelines pointed out that comments made internally by Google employees, no matter the intent, could go public and be wrongly attributed to the company, leading to mistaken impressions.

ISIS-inspired Queens women plead guilty to NYC bomb plot
More on this story from yesterday about the end of a pair of romantic young ladies who preferred playing at jihad to giggling over movie star antics while enjoying weekly mani-pedis at the salon. The Greek-American convert, married and mother of one, and the Saudi lass who kept house for her brother and was Facebook friends with jihadi wannabes like Tairod Pugh (briefly a US Air Force airplane mechanic before selling his skillz to various MidEastern employers), did lots of “research and preparation” without actually accomplishing anything before they were arrested.
[NYPOST] Two terror fangirls from Queens who went gaga for al Qaeda and ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
‐ including one who carried around the late Osama bin Laden
...... who is now neither a strong horse nor a weak horse, but a dead horse......
’s photo ‐ copped to bomb-building charges Friday that could land them in prison for up to 20 years.

Noelle Velentzas, 31, and Asia Siddiqui, 35, could wind up in prison for 20 years after pleading guilty in Brooklyn federal court to attempting to build a weapon of mass destruction.

Between 2013 and 2015, the pair plotted to set off explosives in New York. They researched how to make boom-mobiles and visited Home Depot in Queens to browse for bomb-building materials with a woman they knew as "Mel" ‐ who was actually an undercover agent who caught them on tape talking about their murderous fantasies.

"Noelle, Mel and I discussed the need to prepare for jihad," Siddiqui told Brooklyn federal Judge Sterling Johnson Jr., reading from a prepared written statement.

The two women taught each other chemistry and electrical skills that could be used to build bombs ‐ drawing inspiration from terror attacks launched on US soil like the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.

In a December 27, 2014, meeting, the women also discussed the possibility of attacking the funeral for NYPD officer Rafael Ramos, who was fatally shot alongside partner Wenjian Liu while they sat in their patrol car in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The two would-be bombers were blatant about their support for terrorist groups abroad, court papers state, gleefully watching online videos of a suicide kaboom and of ISIS fighters beheading Syrian soldiers.

"Why we can’t be some real bad bitches?" Velentzas said in one meeting as she took a knife from her bra and showed Siddiqui and the informant how to stab someone.

On one occasion, Velentzas showed the informant her phone, which had a photo of Osama bin Laden ‐ who she called one of her heroes ‐ set as her screen pic.

Siddiqui, meanwhile, had been in repeated contact with members of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, according to court papers, and was close with a prominent figure within the group.
That would be Samir Khan, the Pakistani-American lad who ran off to edit Al Qaeda in Yemen’s Inspire magazine, publishing therein a poem of hers absolutely redolent with the effort of its creation.
Siddiqui also tried her hand at gruesome terrorist poetry in which she called for readers to engage in violence and find truth "through fists and slit throats."
That’s the one. It was “inspired”. (Sorry. But even Pappy could not have resisted that one.)
"Velentzas and Siddiqui were intent on waging violent jihad here in the United States, researching at length historical terrorist attacks on US soil, educating themselves on how to turn propane tanks into bombs, and dreaming up plans to kill Americans on our own turf," FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William Sweeney said in a news release.

Siddiqui and Velentzas are due back in court in December for sentencing.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea fires two short-range ballistic missiles into East Sea
[EN.YNA.CO.KR] North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
fired two projectiles presumed to be short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea on Saturday, South Korea's military said, ratcheting up tensions even after the end of a joint military exercise between the South and the United States.

The projectiles were fired at 6:45 a.m. and 7:02 a.m. from the eastern town of Sondok in South Hamgyong Province into the East Sea, and both flew around 380 kilometers at a maximum altitude of 97 km and a top speed of around Mach 6.5, according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

"Our military is monitoring the situation in case of additional launches and maintaining a readiness posture," the JCS said in a release, adding the South Korean and the U.S. intelligence authorities are analyzing their exact type.

Saturday's firings marked the seventh round of such launches since July 25 when the North broke a 17-month hiatus and started firing missiles and projectiles to test new weapons and protest the South-U.S. joint military exercise that it has long denounced as a rehearsal for invasion.

The exercise concluded earlier this week, raising hope for a halt in the North's missile launches and a resumption of denuclearization talks between Washington and Pyongyang.

Democratic National Committee votes against climate change debate at San Francisco
[Mercury News] Democratic National Committee members shot down an effort to hold a climate change-focused presidential debate Saturday, in a victory for party leadership and a defeat for activists demanding a stronger focus on the environmental crisis.

Party delegates voted 222 to 137 against allowing candidates to participate in a debate dedicated to the topic, after a heated floor fight interrupted by protesters chanting "We can’t wait!" and "Failure of leadership!"
as they stepped over feces, discarded used hypo needles, and homeless sleeping in urine-filled doorways....
The bitter dispute at the party’s annual summer meeting in San Francisco threatened to reignite criticism on the left that Democratic leaders are squelching debate on one of the most important issues to young voters. And the delegates opposed a climate debate even though many of the presidential contenders have come out in favor of one.

The vote came at a time when world leaders are ringing the alarm over massive fires in the Amazon rainforest ‐ a disaster pointed to repeatedly by activists to stress the dire threat climate change poses.

"If an asteroid was coming to earth, there would be no question about having a debate about it," argued Chris Reeves, a DNC member from Kansas. "But with this existential crisis facing the world, we all sit and wring our hands."

Opponents of a debate agreed climate change is an existential threat but said it didn't make sense to elevate the environmental crisis over other key issues, like gun violence, immigration or white nationalism.

"Think about the fact that they're gunning down people who look like me out on the streets," said Alma Gonzalez, a DNC member from Florida. "I would love to have a debate on the fact that we have domestic terrorism in this country."

Ocasio-Cortez: Electoral College is ‘Affirmative Action’ for Rural Americans
[BREITBART] Rep. Alexandria Boom Boom Ocasio-Cortez
Dem represntative from da Bronx in Noo Yawk and leader of the Mean Girl Caucus in Congress. One of the Great Minds of the 21st Century, she is known as much for her innaleck as for her dance moves. She is all in favor of socialism, even though she's fuzzy on the details...
(D-NY) continued her verbal assault on the Electoral College, this time smearing the Constitutional system that guarantees big states don’t have undue influence in electing the president as an “electoral affirmative action” scheme for rural Americans.

On Friday, Ocasio-Cortez posted the following 5-point missive on Twitter:

I see Fox News is big mad about abolishing the electoral college.

So let’s talk about it.

1) If the GOP were the “silent majority” they claim, they wouldn’t be so scared of a popular vote.

They *know* they aren’t the majority. They rely on establishing minority rule for power.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) August 23, 2019

3) LASTLY, this concept that the Electoral College is provides “fairness” to rural Americans over coastal states doesn’t hold any water whatsoever. First of all, virtually every state has rural communities. NY. California. Much of our states are rural.

But very importantly…

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) August 23, 2019

5) The Electoral College isn’t about fairness at all; it’s about empowering some voters over others.

Every vote should be = in America, no matter who you are or where you come from. The right thing to do is establish a Popular Vote. & GOP will do everything they can to fight it.

— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) August 23, 2019

Last week, the socialist lawmaker claimed the Electoral College “is, in fact, a scam” and has a “racial injustice breakdown.”

She wrote: “The Electoral College has a racial injustice breakdown. Due to severe racial disparities in certain states, the Electoral College effectively weighs white voters over voters of color, as opposed to a “one person, one vote” system where all our votes are counted equally.”

Note well - United States

Eight smaller states were not going to join 5 larger states who would in turn dictate to the smaller states their existence, culture, economy, laws, etc. Today the many smaller states are not going to stay with 12 or so metropolitan areas who want to impose their culture, values, politics, economics upon them. Period.

Better you seek independent City States. You realize they are already drowning men, dragging anyone attempting to help them down with them.

#3  My kinda woman. What a fighter !

Allow me to share a lesson I have learned through experience, the Right-wing's unspoken suppression of islamism in my realm. And... to rant a little. 😠

The kind of islam I saw in India when growing up was very different. Muslims were progressive, concerned with their livelihood mostly. What went on in the jhuggis was adjudged by common law and dealt with, but there were no demands for sharia or anything. Muslims celebrated hindu festivals, sent their kids to christian schools. If anyone wanted to see true secularism, they could visit India of the 70s.

All that changed in the late 80s, when pan-islamism and jihad were resurrected by some lamentable western policies. This wahabi shit entered India and screwed the socio-cultural dynamic. But they were unable to achieve the kind of influence they did in western nations. They simply had no choice but to swallow their angst and abide by the cultural mores of the majority.

You want to know why India, China and some other smaller countries were able to protect from an unassailable surge of this islamic cancer ? Why there are no CAIRs or Tlaibs in these countries ?

The bucolic, semi-educated, unapologetic, often vigilante nationalists. A hundred-millions strong ocean of hot-heads fiercely protective of culture waiting to fall on the occasional Tlaib and Omar like a tsunami. People who deal with anti-nationalism and disrespect of their national pride with a prejudice faced only by 'blasphemers' in Pakistain. People there are not enough cops or feebs to protect you from, should you harm a hair on an untouchable majority. Men crazy enough to tear a Colin Kapernick to shreds as soon as he steps out that stadium. People so committed to saving their nation, they will stand before tear gas and tanks, they will fill the jails and stall everything. I think there are no such people left due to alienation by a progressive America.

I believe the sidelining and contempt flung at the evangelicals, the 'rednecks', farming communities, fringe outliers - by hollywood, 'elevated' academics and most 'urbane' Americans has lost you a good ally against these bastards. It's not too late. It is those people that need the love and acceptance of Americans, instead of being labelled "white trash", and not the Akbars, Muhlaysias and Deshawns The voodoo-islam-reggae-crack mongers, to me even their brand of christianity is suspect.

"Fear God. Honour the king." - 1st Peter, I think

The Trump presidency does make for a good uniting theme. But all of America needs to get their core beliefs in order. Identify, and help your neighbor identify with wholly christian themes, practices and beliefs. For example, do not discourage those who don't believe in evolution, find an apologetic explanation for the damn discrepancy ! You need those people, not the bloody answer to meaningless questions. We love the idiots in our family too. You value those 'holy rollers' instead of the snooty Dawkins types, and the know-it-alls out of UCLAs and Harvard. Because they are certainly more American than the atheistic, muslim-hugging, faggot hordes vying for totalitarian destruction of your country. If possible, get back to God, not some ambivalent humanist, Karmic-Wellness bilge.

Turkey launches third phase of anti-PKK operation in Kurdistan Region
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
announced the third phase of its anti-Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) operations in the Kurdistan Region on Saturday.

The newest phase of Operation Claw, which began yesterday, will focus on places the Kurdish Lions of Islam are hiding in the Sinat-Haftanin part of the Kurdistan Region near the Ottoman Turkish border, according to the Ottoman Turkish Defense Ministry.

"The operation is to ensure the security of the borders in the future and to destroy the Death Eaters in Sinat-Haftanin region [in Kurdistan Region] and their caves and shelters," said the ministry in a statement.

The first phase of Operation Claw began on May 27, followed by a second phase described as a "follow-up" operation on July 12. The first two phases were in the Khakurk region northeast of Erbil near the Ottoman Turkish and Iranian borders.

Turkey has not announced the end of any of Operation Claw’s phases.

Turkey regularly uses fighter jets to hit the PKK in the Kurdistan Region, but Operation Claw utilizes ground forces as well. The latest phase is supported by Turkey’s air force, army aviation forces, tanks and armed drones, the Ottoman Turkish Defense Ministry said.

The Ottoman Turkish Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu, claimed on Thursday that their forces have "neutralized" 635 PKK fighters only in 2019 in over 80,000 operations. Ankara uses the word "neutralized" to refer to those killed, maimed, or otherwise removed from the battlefield.

"We've been combating PKK terror for 40 years. We have neutralized 635 PKK Death Eaters in 80,570 operations since the start of this year," Soylu told news hounds in the capital Ankara, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA).

Anadolu Agency also reported today that Ottoman Turkish army and intelligence forces "neutralized" four PKK fighters in Gara region.

Turkey, as well as the US and EU, consider the PKK a terrorist organization.

The Ottoman Turkish military is also involved in heavy festivities with the PKK in some Kurdish provinces in east and southeast Turkey. It launched Operation Kiran on Wednesday in the Van, Hakkari and Sirnak provinces against the PKK.

Turkey has intensified attacks on the group recently, leading to the deaths of some senior commanders. It has utilized sophisticated, modern technology to track PKK positions in Kurdistan Region, making one of the PKK’s goals to work for "modernization" of its fighters.

"We want to fully modernize, reinvigorate and professionalize guerrillas who should be capable of prevailing over the enemy’s intelligence and techniques," Murat Karayilan, a member of PKK’s executive body, told the party-affiliated Sterk TV a week ago.

Foreign ministry spokesman Peter Guschelbauer told public broadcaster ORF’s Oe1 radio Saturday that “there is a positive DNA test and so the children are clearly identified.” He said there has also been an Austrian court decision on custody “and so the conditions for repatriation are fulfilled.”

ORF reported that a court last week awarded custody to the grandparents of the boys, who are 1 ½ and 3. It said they have been at the al-Hol camp in Syria, controlled by Kurdish forces, for the past few months.

Four German children fathered by IS militants were handed over to Germany by Syria’s Kurdish-led administration Monday.

Jesuit Chief: No Country Has the Right to Turn Away Migrants
[BREITBART] The superior general of the Jesuits declared this week that no country has the right to turn away migrants colonists, claiming the land belongs to everyone.

"The challenge for a country that receives migrants colonists is not only reception, but integration, which means receiving the contribution that immigrants colonists bring," said Jesuit Father Arturo Sosa Abascal in an interview with Tempi.it.

"They come to make a contribution, which is greater than what they receive from the host country," he claimed, seemingly without evidence.

"Italians must remember their own experience," he continued.

"They came to Latin America, including my country of Venezuela
...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeds places like Honduras and El Salvador, and a significant proportion of the populace as refugeed to Colombia and points south...
, and they were welcomed; they became part of society in the same way as everyone else, and today they are not considered ’different’," he said, drawing a somewhat dubious comparison between the largely legal migration of Italians to South America and Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
’s largely unregulated migrant crisis.

"In Europe we must recognize the contribution that migrants colonists make to the societies that receive them and thank them for it," the Jesuit added.

Then, in one of his more controversial claims, Father Sosa said that nations have no right to enforce their borders because in the end, the land belongs to everyone.

"Those who live in a given territory have no right to turn away migrants colonists," he said, "because they have no absolute right to that territory. They do not own it; the goods of the land are for everyone."

#5  Funny he should say that, "They come to make a contribution..."

Freudian slip ? The latin American immigrants in America must earn their denomination millions, most of which is spent in the regalia and investments of the professional priesthood, doing absolutely nothing for the country itself. Probably why they hide them in churches and espouse such political doctrine.

To their way of thinking, the State has no right to evict Selena from the land, even if every one of her spawn is a multiple murderer, and she the accountant of their little clan. Just as long as one of her daughters can sing a good offertory song.

'One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.' Exodus 12:49

The problem is not with immigrants, it is with illegal immigrants. Those who use nefarious means and criminal activity to infiltrate and stay here. Those who commit crimes, are deported and commit fraud to stay on, build whole clans and roots in the system. Those leeching the resources of actual citizens, illegally. Does the Friar think people should be free to almost wage war on a host nation ?

Vipers.

) Death Eaters in the country’s western deserts on Saturday.

The Iraqi Security Media Cell said the latest phase of the operation will clear ISIS’ presence in the Anbar province.

"The aim of the operation is to clean the desert of Anbar from Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells," the Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement on Saturday.

The third phase of Will of Victory, which was in the eastern Diyala province, "achieved the targets successfully," the cell said.

The operation is a collaboration between various domestic forces, including the Anbar Operations Command, al-Jazira Operation Command, Hashd al-Ashairi paramilitias, federal police, the army, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi), Border Guard Command and the air force, as well as the US-led international coalition, according to the statement.

Iraqi security forces aim to clear a nearly 43,000 kilometer area, the security cell also said in the statement.

The PMF also released a statement on Saturday announcing that the Iran-backed, predominantly Shiite militias are part of the operation, and it will be in the Wadi Houran valley in the province.

"PMF Anbar units are participating in the fourth phase of the Will of Victory operation through three frontlines," the PMF said in a statement. "The main aim of the operation is to clear Wadi Houran area from ISIS sleeper cells in Anbar province."

The PMF also announced that deputy chairman of PMF, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, is personally supervising the movements and frontlines of the PMF in Anbar during the operation.

Muhandis caused a controversy recently when he accused the US and Israel of causing mysterious explosions at PMF sites, after which PMF head Faleh al-Fayyadh distanced the militias from Muhandis’ comments. Israeli media later reported that the country is indeed conducting military operations in Iraq, while the US said it did not attack any PMF bases.

Iran’s support for many PMF units has caused tension between them and the US and Israel. PMF units are currently conducting a wide military operation in the deserts of the Nineveh province claiming to hunt ISIS sleeper cells.

The Iraqi government announced the territorial defeat of ISIS in December 2017. However,

remnants of the group have returned to earlier insurgency tactics of ambushing security forces, kidnapping, executing suspected informants, and extorting money from vulnerable, rural populations.

ISIS is particularly active near the Syrian border, in the Nineveh province, and in disputed territories between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

A report from the US Department of Defense released in August said there are 14,000 to 18,000 ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria.
Iraqi News adds:
The operation resulted so far in the killing of an Islamic State

jacket wallah and a Death Eater, as well as dismantling 12 improvised bomb and a number of land mines, Rabei added.

Earlier today, Joint Operations Command announced launching the fourth phase of operation "Will of Victory", while indicated that this phase was launched to cleanse the full desert and areas in Anbar Province.

Mehsud tribesmen announce boycott of anti-polio drive
[DAWN] Shamankhel clan of Mehsud tribe from Bangiwala village in Sararogha tehsil of South Wazoo has announced to boycott the anti-polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
vaccination campaign starting from Aug 26 in protest against the government’s failure to construct a bridge over a stream near their village.

Shamankhel rustics told Dawn on Friday that absence of bridge over the stream was causing them great distress as the locals, including children, had to cross the stream to reach markets and schools located on the other side. They said when it rained the stream overflowed, cutting them off from rest of the areas.

The rustics said they would boycott the anti-polio campaign due to government’s apathy towards their plight. They demanded that the government immediately construct a bridge over the stream.

Miraj Mehsud, 24, told Dawn that due to absence of a bridge over the stream their children could not attend school. He said some pregnant women died for want of medical treatment as crossing the stream was an uphill task for people, particularly for women.

Gillette ‘Shifting Spotlight from Social Issues’ After Anti-Masculinity Ad Disaster
[BREITBART] Shaving company Gillette says it is "shifting the spotlight from social issues to local heroes," after the company’s brief foray into the SJW-style demonization of masculinity drew a massive backlash from customers.

The company landed itself in hot water last year when it ran a #MeToo-themed ad borrowing language from far-left anti-male feminists, depicting the abuse of women by men and encouraging male Gilette customers to "shave their toxic masculinity."

Other attempts to demonstrate the company’s "woke" credentials included an ad showing a dad teaching his transitioning female-to-male child how to shave.

Shaving brands are not difficult to boycott. Most major retailers stock competitors to Gillette in their shaving sections, at similar or lower prices. There are plenty of other brands that have taken a different approach, with competitor Schick even running ads spotlighting sexist expectations against men.

Consumers did not reward Gillette for its attempt to dabble in left-wing identity politics. Gillette’s parent company, Procter & Gamble (P&G), posted a net loss of $5.24 billion in the fourth quarter, compared to profits of $1.89 billion a year ago.

News.com.au finance editor Steven Chung tied Gillette’s losses to its political messaging, noting the perils of alienating half the population.

Via news.com.au:

Advertising is increasingly the battleground of the culture wars, with big brands like Target, Nike and Starbucks copping backlash, and praise, for taking sides in divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
social and political issues like race, gender and sexuality.

But by alienating roughly 50 per cent of potential customers, many brands end up taking a hit to their bottom line ‐ "Get woke, go broke."

At the time, Gillette CEO Gary Coombe said the loss was a "price worth paying" and that he didn’t mind alienating some customers.

With the company now "shifting away from social issues," it’s possible that Coombe’s view failed to win out.

Kashmiris defy curbs, clash with Indian forces
[DAWN] Occupation forces used tear gas against stone-throwing residents in India-held Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
’s main city of Srinagar on Friday, after a third straight week of protests in the restive Soura district despite the imposition of tight restrictions.

Police tried to enter Soura, which has emerged as a centre of the protests, as hundreds of locals staged a protest march against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to withdraw autonomy for the disputed territory of Kashmir on Aug. 5.

Posters appeared overnight this week in Srinagar, the Moslem-majority region’s main city, calling for a march to the office of the UN Military Observer Group for India and Pakistain (Unmogip), to protest against India’s decision.

This was the first such call by Kashmiri leadership. India’s move was accompanied by travel and communication restrictions in held Kashmir that are still largely in place, although some landlines were restored last week.

In a narrow lane of Soura, blocked like many others with rocks and sheets of metal, residents hurled stones at the paramilitary police to stop them from moving into an area around the local mosque, Jinab Sahib, which had earlier been packed for Friday prayers.

The police responded with several rounds of tear gas and chilli grenades but were beaten back by dozens of stone-pelting men. Some men suffered pellet injuries.

The locals said the occupation forces had been repeatedly trying to move into Soura, often using tear gas and pellets.

"We are neither safe at home, nor outside," said Rouf, who declined to give his full name. He had rubbed salt into his face to counteract the effects of tear gas.

Dr. Tim Ball Defeats Michael ‘Hockey Stick' Mann's Climate Lawsuit
[ClimateChangeDispatch] The Supreme Court of British Columbia has dismissed Dr. Michael Mann's defamation lawsuit against skeptical Canadian climatologist Dr. Tim Ball. Full legal costs were awarded to Dr. Ball, the defendant in the case.
In Canada? I am truly shocked. Their ruling class seems to prefer the masses remain unthinking and compliant.
The Canadian court issued its final ruling in favor of the Dismissal motion that was filed May 2019 by Dr. Tim Ball's libel lawyers.

Mann's "hockey stick" graph, first published in 1998, was featured prominently in the U.N. IPCC 2001 climate report.

The graph showed a spike in global average temperature in the 20th Century after about 500 years of stability. Skeptics have long claimed Mann's graph was fraudulent.

On Friday morning (August 23, 2019) Dr. Ball sent an email to WUWT revealing:

"Michael Mann's Case Against Me Was Dismissed This Morning By The BC Supreme Court And They Awarded Me [Court] Costs."

Professor Mann is a climate professor at Penn State University. Mann filed his action in 2010 for Ball's allegedly libelous statement that Mann "belongs in the state pen, not Penn State."

The final court ruling, in effect, vindicates Ball's criticisms.

On Feb. 03, 2010, a self-serving and superficial academic ‘investigation‘ by Pennsylvania State University had cleared Mann of misconduct. Mann also falsely claimed the NAS found nothing untoward with his work.

But the burden of proof in a court of law is higher.

Not only did the B.C. Supreme Court grant Ball's application for dismissal of the nine-year, multi-million dollar lawsuit, it also took the additional step of awarding full legal costs to Ball.

A more detailed public statement from the world-renowned skeptical climatologist is expected in due course.

This extraordinary outcome will likely trigger severe legal repercussions for Dr. Mann in the U.S. and may prove fatal to alarmist climate science claims that modern temperatures are "unprecedented."

According to the leftist The Guardian newspaper (Feb. 09, 2010), the wider importance of Mann's graph over the last 20 years is massive:

"Although it was intended as an icon of global warming, the hockey stick has become something else – a symbol of the conflict between mainstream climate scientists and their critics."

Under court rules, Mann's legal team have up to 30 days to file an appeal. For readers interested in accessing the court website directly, use this link.

‘HOCKEY STICK' DISCREDITED BY STATISTICIANS IN 2003
In 2003 a Canadian study showed the "hockey stick" curve "is primarily an artifact of poor data handling, obsolete data and incorrect calculation of principal components." When the data was corrected it showed a warm period in the 15th Century that exceeded the warmth of the 20th Century.

So, the graph was junk science. But the big question then became: did Mann intentionally falsify his graph from motivation to make a profit and/or cause harm (i.e. commit the five elements of criminal fraud)?

No one could answer that question unless Mann surrendered his numbers. He was never going to do that voluntarily – or face severe consequences for not doing so – that is, until Dr. Ball came into the picture!

Dr Ball's legal team adroitly pursued the ‘truth defense' such that the case boiled down to whether Ball's words ("belongs in the state pen, not Penn State") fairly and accurately portrayed Mann i.e. Mann knowingly and criminally misrepresented his claims by using statistical fakery (see: ‘Mike's trick‘ below).

In the pre-trial Discovery Process, the parties must give up key evidence in a reasonable fashion, that proves or disproves the Claim.

Dr. Mann lost his case because he abused Discovery by refusing to honor the "concessions" he made to Ball in 2018 to finally show in open court his R2 regression numbers (Mann's math ‘working out') for his graph (see ‘update' at foot of article).

Dr. Ball has always argued that those numbers‐if examined in open court‐would prove Mann was motivated to commit a criminal fraud.

The graph first appeared in the UN IPCC 2001 Third Assessment Report (TAR) and has been an iconic image used ever since by environmentalists clamoring for urgent action on man-made global warming.

The mainstream media has long acclaimed Mann as "a world-leading climate scientist" and last year was heralded as their champion to help dethrone "climate denier" President Trump.

Alleged Drug Smugglers Arrested in Arizona Desert with 820 Pounds of Marijuana
[BREITBART] Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a group of 11 migrants colonists who were allegedly smuggling 820 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. Officials report one of the illegal aliens is wanted by a court in Marion County, Oregon.

Agents patrolling near a mountainous canyon southeast of Arivaca, Arizona, received information Wednesday afternoon about a group of people wearing camouflage and carrying large backpacks. The agents called in a helicopter aircrew from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations. The search led to the discovery of the group of 11 migrants colonists from Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. Officials discovered 36 bundles of marijuana weighing about 820 pounds, according to information obtained from Tucson Sector Border Patrol officials.

The agents arrested the 11 illegal aliens who ranged in age from 15 to 38. They will be charged with drug smuggling and immigration violations.

During a biometric background investigation at the Border Patrol station, agents learned one of the Guatemalan migrants colonists has an active warrant from a court Marion County, Oregon. Marion County is a sanctuary jurisdiction that does not honor immigration detainers placed by ICE.

The warrant on the migrant is related to charges of burglary, domestic violence assault, and contempt of court, officials reported. Border Patrol agents notified the court and placed 25-year-old Mario Felipe-Perez into custody. He awaits extradition to Oregon authorities.

Amazon fires: Bolsonaro sends army after EU threat on trade deal (though it’s just the annual burning o’the fields)
[Al Jazeera] As EU threatens trade retaliation, the far-right leader announces he has authorised troops to help contain raging fires.

Don't Panic: Amazon Annual Burning Is Mostly Farms, Not Forests

[Reason] Interestingly, when NASA released the satellite image on August 21, it noted that "it is not unusual to see fires in Brazil at this time of year due to high temperatures and low humidity. Time will tell if this year is a record breaking or just within normal limits."

So why are there so many fires? "Natural fires in the Amazon are rare, and the majority of these fires were set by farmers preparing Amazon-adjacent farmland for next year's crops and pasture," soberly explains The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

. "Much of the land that is burning was not old-growth rain forest, but land that had already been cleared of trees and set for agricultural use."

It is routine for farmers and ranchers in tropical areas burn their fields to control pests and weeds and to encourage new growth in pastures.

What about deforestation trends? Since the right-wing nationalist Jair Bolsonaro became Brazil's president, rainforest deforestation rates have increased a bit, but they are still way below their earlier highs:

Various researchers have noted a U-shaped relation between environmental degradation and economic growth. As development takes off, levels of pollution and land degradation rise, but they begin to improve once certain thresholds of per capita incomes are attained. A 2012 study found, after parsing data from 52 developing countries between 1972 and 2003, that deforestation increases until average income levels reach about $3,100 per capita. As it happens, Brazilian per capita incomes reached $3,600 per capita in 2004,which is when deforestation rates began trending decisively downward.

While problematic deforestation is still taking place in the Amazon region, a 2018 study in Nature reported that the global tree canopy cover had increased by 865,000 square miles from 1982 to 2016. As Brazilians become wealthier, the deforestation trend in the Amazon will likely turn around toward afforestation, as it already has done many other countries.

#1  "Time will tell if this year is a record breaking or just within normal limits."

Oh, yeah. Same as every month is announced breathlessly as "the warmest hottest month ever" by the NASA crowd. They should just stick to their muzz self esteem booster program. It's more believable.

#2  According to the Beeb, the number of fires this year is unprecedented since 2010, meaning it hasn't happened since the last time it happened.

As the news stories get summarized and repeated, the "since 2010" part will quickly fade away and become simply "unprecedented" or "a record number".

As a historical note, slash & burn agriculture is an old, old practice, especially in areas with nutrient poor soil like the tropics.

Illinois State Trooper killed executing search warrant in E. St. Louis, IL
[MAIL] An Illinois State Police trooper died from wounds suffered early Friday while executing a search warrant in East St. Louis.

Trooper Nicholas Hopkins, 33, of Waterloo, a 10-year veteran of the force, was wounded during an exchange of gunfire while serving the warrant at an East St. Louis home, said State Police Acting Director Brendan Kelly. He later died at a hospital.

After the shooting, police surrounded the home and arrested three people.
They should burn it down with the assholes inside
Police remained on the scene throughout the day, uncertain if another suspect was barricaded in the house, according to authorities.

The three people arrested were not identified.
For many decades East St. Louis IL has been a no-go zone for anybody sane.
Exactly the kind of insight one hopes to find here from the well-travelled members of Rantburg.

Dozens wounded, detained in West Papua crackdown
[Al Jazeera] Several demonstrators have been injured and dozens detained as Indonesian authorities crack down on separatist protests in the West Papua region, according to witnesses, but the police strongly deny anyone was maimed.

A family member of one of the injured protesters, who asked not to be identified for security reasons, confirmed to Al Jazeera on Friday that a relative was injured during the protests in Fakfak Regency, West Papua province.

Rights groups Amnesia Amnesty International Indonesia and Human Rights Watch also confirmed to Al Jazeera that there were several reports of injuries in Fakfak.

They urged the authorities in West Papua to "ensure the safety" of all people across the region, and refrain from using excessive force in dealing with the situation.

"Police have the right to remove part of the protests that is violent, but must guarantee the rights and the safety of others who want to protest racial and discriminatory treatment of Papuan students by the police and mass organizations in Surabaya and Malang, East Java," Usman Hamid, executive director at Amnesty, said in a statement.

Violent protests started earlier this week when authorities detained Papuan students studying in the island of Java for reportedly holding a pro-independence rally. Another group of Papuan students was accused of damaging the Indonesian flag.

Bashir lawyers seek release on bail as corruption trial continues
[Al Jazeera] Sudan's deposed President Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
has appeared in court for the second hearing of his corruption trial, during which his legal team asked for his release on bail.

Al-Bashir sat in the same metal cage he appeared in on Monday when his trial in the capital, Khartoum, opened. In the first hearing, an investigator said al-Bashir had admitted to receiving at least $90m in cash from Saudi royals in recent years.

On Saturday, the judge heard three witnesses, one banker and two Sherlocks who searched al-Bashir's residence after his military removal from power in April in the face of mass protests against his 30-year rule.

"We ask the court to release the accused on bail," al-Bashir's lawyer Hashem Abu Bakr said, to which the judge answered he would examine a written request.

The trial is set to resume on August 31.

After the hearing, as a large security convoy escorted al-Bashir back to prison, two opposing groups of demonstrators staged protests.

One group of a few dozen protesters were chanting slogans for al-Bashir to face justice not just over corruption but for his role in the country's deadly conflicts.

"Bashir is a killer" and "he has to face justice", some of the demonstrators chanted.

Another smaller group had gathered in support of the deposed president.

So far, the military, which overthrew al-Bashir on April 11, says he will not be extradited to the International Criminal Court, where he faces charges of war crimes and genocide linked to the Darfur conflict in the 2000s.

Iran displayed what it described as a domestically built long-range, surface-to-air missile air defence system on Thursday.

'If this is how India behaves with its own, what expectation can Pakistan have?' asks FM Qureshi

They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. "This is the true face of the Indian government which the world is witnessing today," said the foreign minister as he addressed a presser in Islamabad.

"I call upon democratic nations of the world to view that footage [of the airport]. When they treat their own this way, what expectation can we [Pakistain] have from holding a dialogue with them?" said Qureshi.

Twelve dead in Boko Haram Niger attack: Official

has left a dozen villagers dead in southeast Niger on the frontier with Nigeria, according to a local official.

The attack on Friday night in the border district of Gueskerou is the latest to hit the Diffa region near Lake Chad, which is crisscrossed by fighter groups and traffickers.

"Twelve villagers were killed on Friday at around 8:00pm (19:00 GMT) by Boko Haram elements," a local elected official told AFP on Saturday.

He said 11 of those killed had been shot but did not give further details.

The Gueskerou area, abutting the Komadougou Yobe river that provides a natural frontier between Niger and Nigeria, has been exposed to years of killings and kidnappings at the hands of the Boko Haram.

In March, two attacks in the area left eight civilians and seven police dead.

Boko Haram, whose name roughly translates to "Western education is forbidden", has waged an armed campaign in northeast Nigeria

since 2009.

The group wants to establish an Islamic state which will follow a strict interpretation of Islamic law.

snuffies as part of an ongoing military operation in Anbar province.

"Troops of the 13th and 18th brigades of the Popular Mobilization Forces clashed with forces of Evil of the Islamic State group in al-Qaem district, west of Anbar, leaving two snuffies killed," the state-sponsored umbrella organization said in a press statement.

The PMF fighters will continue to track down on Islamic State remnants in Anbar province within the framework of the fourth phase of the military operation dubbed "Will of Victory," the statement read.

The Will of Victory Operation’s first phase had been launched in July, targeting IS elements in western regions.

According to the Iraqi military, 13 villages were cleared in areas south of Nineveh during the operation’s third phase.

Public flogging and trying individuals in Kangaroo Courts is not rare in the restive parts of the country.

Talibs often flog, kill or stone the victims to death after trying them in Kangaroo Courts in the areas under their control.
