Science & Technology
A Lunar Space Elevator Is Actually Feasible & Inexpensive, Scientists Find
h/t Instapundit
the Columbia study differs from previous proposal in an important way: instead of building the elevator from the Earth’s surface (which is impossible with today’s technology), it would be anchored on the moon and stretch some 200,000 miles toward Earth until hitting the geostationary orbit height (about 22,236 miles above sea level), at which objects move around Earth in lockstep with the planet’s own rotation.

#3  Love this time of year. Leaves start changing, getting pumpkin dreams, talk about the feasibility of some sort of space elevator.

Gonna try to hook up with the cable or whatnot, because it won't be still, and pull against gravity for a good part of that trip?

#10  Ummm...no...

The Lunar end of the elevator goes around the earth once a month. For the elevator to remain perpendicular to the moon (and thus not wrap around the moon) the other end has to go around the earth once a month as well. However, satellites occupying that orbit (and everything else,) would have to go around the earth once a day (29 times faster). Since there's only a narrow strip of orbit that has that characteristic orbital time, the other end of the elevator would be subject to having weather and telecommunications satellites whiz right by it. More seriously, any rocket getting up there will have to match speed with that other end to transfer goodies and materials. however, it won't be going fast enough to STAY in that orbit....

I don't dispute that the elevator would be feasible, but USING it would be a tougher matter...

Contesting the Progressives' Takeover of Vermont
[American Thinker] Recently, the state of Vermont announced that pension and health benefits for state employees and teachers are underfunded to the tune of $4.5 billion (in a tiny state of just 627,180 residents). Then, in protest against Trump administration rule changes, it diverted some $750,000 from state coffers (each year, indefinitely) to fund abortion services through Planned Parenthood rather than continue to accept federal subsidies which had been proffered since 1970.

Many Vermonters, like most Americans, are struggling to pay their property taxes. I live on land passed down to me from my great-great-great-great-grandfather, in a house I built by sawing timbers on the 6.5 acre lot, on a foundation I constructed with granite block. There is no mortgage -- and also no running water, no septic system, no plumbing or electric, and the driveway is impassable without four-wheel drive. But our real estate taxes are just under $2,500 annually, roughly equivalent to a $65,000, 30-year mortgage at current rates. Yet, in 30 years that phantom tax mortgage will not be paid off -- it will be massively larger.

Vermonters love their state, but most are struggling to afford to live here. Many are paying $10,000 or more annually in real estate taxes on family land, which is often in a "current use" conservation program -- but still the taxes escalate. Retirees sell up and live in RVs, "going mobile" to avoid taxes. Young people seek tiny houses to shrink what the Vermont government can siphon off from their incomes. But still the government bureaucracy swells, regardless of the underlying economy.

Vermont boasts the fifth highest property tax in the nation, but the 24th lowest median income, and the 19th lowest home values. In stark contrast, neighboring New Hampshire has the second highest real estate taxes -- but no sales tax, and the sixth highest median income in the nation. Meanwhile, Vermont offers the fourth largest amount of welfare benefits per capita in the nation, granting $42,350 annually in pre-tax equivalents:

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Did FBI and CIA have an agent provocateur who tried to entrap the Trump Organization in a Russia deal?
[American Thinker] Judicial Watch is hot on the trail of a potentially explosive revelation: that an agent who had previously worked for the FBI and CIA as an informant -- recruited by Andrew Weissmann in 1998! -- actively tried to set up a business deal between the Trump Organization and Russian interests, in order to implicate Trump with "collusion." In a press release, JW lays out the background of its new FOIA lawsuit seeking:
...all records of communications, including FBI 302 interview reports and offer agreements between former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office and Felix Sater, a former Trump organization official who was recently confirmed to be an informant for the FBI and CIA. Sater reportedly pushed a Russian real estate deal in 2016 while working at the Trump organization.

Sater reportedly "began working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1998, after he was caught in a stock-fraud scheme." It was Andrew Weissmann who, as supervising assistant U.S. attorney, signed the agreement that brought Sater on as a government informant. Federal prosecutors wrote a letter to Sater’s sentencing judge on August 27, 2009, in an effort to get him a lighter sentence: "Sater’s cooperation was of a depth and breadth rarely seen."

Sater also was reportedly a CIA informant in the mid-2000s for the CIA during his undercover work with Russian military and intelligence officers.

So, Andrew Weissmann, the real head of the Mueller probe and partisan supporter of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy so enthusiastic that he was at her "victory celebration" as the polls closed in 2016, a ruthless prosecutor with a checkered ethics track record, already had an asset in place in the Trump Organization by the time the Special Counsel was appointed and the team assembled. And that informant provided a lot of information to Weissmann’s team:
The Mueller report mentions Sater more than 100 times but fails to mention that he was an active undercover informant for the FBI/CIA for more than two decades. In 2017, Sater was the subject of two interviews conducted under a proffer agreement with Mueller’s office according to page 69, footnote 304 of Mueller’s report on his Russian collusion investigation.

And, according to JW’s investigator Micah Morrison:
Beginning in late 2015, Sater repeatedly tried to arrange for [Trump attorney Michael] Cohen and candidate Trump, as representatives of the Trump Organization, to travel to Russia to meet with Russian government officials and possible financing partners.

Though his proposal appears to have been rejected by the Trump campaign, Sater persisted. "Into the spring of 2016," the Mueller Report notes, "Sater and Cohen continued to discuss a trip to Moscow." Sater emails Cohen that he is trying to arrange a meeting between "the 2 big guys," Putin and Trump.

Sater’s re-emergence "suggests the possibility of a more sinister counter-narrative: that someone may have been trying to lure Trump into a trap‐a politically damaging entanglement with Moscow money," Morrison wrote.

Those discussions between the Trump Organization and Russian interests are the basis of much of the impeachment-mongering of the Democrats. If it turns out that those discussions were pushed by an agent of Andrew Weissmann well into 2016, then it certainly looks like a case of entrapment, pushed by a federal prosecutor devoted to the Democrats’ leading candidate for president.

#3  As to entrapment: of course Weissman, McCabe et al they were deliberately aiming to entrap Trump.

The man had nothing whatsoever to do with Russia or Russian business aside from a quasi-tourist trip in connection with a stupid beauty pageant.

No one in Russia had ever heard of the guy before he was nominated by the GOP in late 2016. In Russian real estate he is literally a non-entity. There never was or will be a Trump Tower in Moscow.

The whole collusion nonsense is beyond stupid. It's contemptible. Our intel agencies are run by shitheads who can't even see how foolish their cockamamie scheme was, and is. What a disgrace these people are.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Where have all the heroes gone?
[American Thinker] In a season of grotesque sexual misbehavior by (as always) men of the Left, one sorta wonders how it ever came to be. Not that long ago, the women of the Left assured us that Bill Clinton's misbehavior in the Oval Office was "just sex" and no big deal. It was a sixties attitude ‐ free love and get-out-of-our-bedrooms and such. In that spirit at least one female reporter volunteered a gratitudinous freebie to the then-president for his, uh, services to the cause.

No trace of that attitude attaches to #MeToo, the latest version of the Left's complex and contradictory approach to relations between the sexes. If the sixties attitude treated sex playfully (at least as re: Bill Clinton), #MeToo seems convinced that men are too dangerous for sex and must be punished for their maleness. To be sure, the Epstein revelations seemed to underscore the point about toxic masculinity. If you ever wondered what a toxic male looks like, look no farther than Jeff.

Into this alarming environment comes TV fare showcasing the idea that women aren't as good as men, but better. Computer hackers, car-jackers, detectives, doctors, lawyers, spaceship commanders ‐ all better than their male counterparts. And they can fight! Little bitty women with toothpick arms beat up whole gangs of muscular male brutes with square jaws and hairy bellies. In the next scene, these gals turn on the charm in scanty evening gowns as the guys line up panting.

I don't watch the comic book flicks where the female hero with exaggerated curves, dressed to bring these assets into unmissable relief, beats up the worst villains in the universe, but it's hard to escape the ads. Gotta be quick on the remote.

The point, among others, is that the male hero has all but disappeared from the cultural scene. For that matter, so have just ordinary guys who do what ordinary guys do, who laugh a lot and look on the sunny side, who aren't wimpy and weepy and angst-ridden. For the female-driven Left, only girls have complex personalities drawn with depth and (possible) insight, who bravely overcome abuse and march grimly on to set the example for the abused sisterhood coming up behind them.

If this is how progressives see the world, small wonder we normals (hat tip: Kurt) don't get it. Progs choose to hang out down in the dumps, moping about how unfair it all is, rather than focusing on the fun things, the funny things, the gorgeous things, the interesting things, the curious things, the sweet things, the awesome things. It's true that the world is full of evil, but this ought not shut down seeing the rest.

It's lefty despair that makes modern culture so unbearable. Despair drives lefties from one extreme to the other so that what they said in their youth contradicts what they say in their oldth. They are out of balance, and instead of swinging back toward the center, they go ever farther out, getting ever unhappier.

And completely unnecessary. You can't control much of what the world throws at you, but you can control your attitude toward it. For most of us, it is possible to choose to look on the sunny side, to keep that stiff upper lip, to opt for good cheer over blue funk. Seeing the human condition as both comedy and tragedy keeps us in balance and out of the Lefty Slough of Despond.

If you're in the Club, you can do what you want; if not, you're doomed. That's what the above tells us.

It's lefty despair that makes modern culture so unbearable. Despair drives lefties from one extreme to the other so that what they said in their youth contradicts what they say in their oldth

It's not despair.

They still think the future belongs to them.

It's hatred of anyone not in the Club and the desire to make them suffer.

For most of us, it is possible to choose to look on the sunny side, to keep that stiff upper lip, to opt for good cheer over blue funk.

That's fine, so long as it's not whistling past the graveyard, and if the "positivity" doesn't shade over into deluded passivity. Norman Vincent Peale will only take you so far.

Here's a test for people like the author. Would you go up to one of our troops in Afghanistan or Iraq and tell them "Just smile and everything will be fine!"?

For all their self-dramatizing gloom, the left is still winning or holding on most fronts.

Maybe the "despair" is actually energizing and justifying, and therefore a source of power?

Would the Right be more active and effective if we cultivated just a bit of that for ourselves?

Who can say?

#6  I started watching anime because my son needed to learn English, and ex-wife - who's used to be an English teacher - wasn't doing very well with him. So I remembered how I learned English and went to get him some comics. In the used book store I patronize comics were mixed with manga. I picked up Gintama, and fell in love. Grom Jr. fell in love too.

Culture is the new counter-culture.

#10  Everyone should watch 'The Boys'. I think it's on Amazon but may be on some stream site too.

I think the liberal producers were going for a conservative-bashing tirade on the icons of Americanism and the esteem of the armed forces. But the direct archetypal parallel to liberal, media savvy 'hero' leaders that hits you is unmistakable. From a team of PR managed bullies and crazies posing as saviors of people, to their acts of incredible audacity covered and protected by legalities and the government.

It shows some maverick humans trying to expose them and kill them with conventional weapons, and that too presents a clear parallel to the conflict between the democrat crazies and an indignant part of the population fighting to keep the right to protect themselves, and not surrendering it to saviors with media halos around them.

Some right wingers rejected the show too soon, hence the bad reviews. I saw it through and found everyone from the Clintons to Obama, Pelosi and Kamala types in there.

Try it for repose if nothing.

VDH: President Trump's Total Culture War
[Townhall] Donald Trump is waging a nonstop, all-encompassing war against progressive culture, in magnitude analogous to what 19th-century Germans once called a Kulturkampf.

As a result, not even former President George W. Bush has incurred the degree of hatred from the left that is now directed at Trump. For most of his time in office, Trump, his family, his friends and his businesses have been investigated, probed, dissected and constantly attacked.

In 2016 and early 2017, Barack Obama appointees in the FBI, CIA and Department of Justice tried to subvert the Trump campaign, interfere with his transition and, ultimately, abort his presidency. Now, congressional Democrats promise impeachment before the 2020 election.

The usual reason for such hatred is said to be Trump's unorthodox and combative take-no-prisoners style. Critics detest his crude and unfettered assertions, his lack of prior military or political experience, his attacks on the so-called bipartisan administrative state, and his intent to roll back the entire Obama-era effort of "fundamentally transforming" the country leftward.

Certainly, Trump's agenda of closing the border, using tariffs to overturn a half-century of Chinese mercantilism, and pulling back from optional overseas military interventions variously offends both Democrats and establishment Republicans.

Trump periodically and mercurially fires his top officials. He apparently does not care whether the departed write damning memoirs or join his opposition. He will soon appoint his fourth national security adviser within just three years.

2,246 Fetal Remains Found At Abortionist's Home Should Be The Catalyst To End Abortion
[The Federalist] My heart skipped a beat as I read the news. The fetal remains of 2,246 children had just been found at the home of Ulrich "George" Klopfer. These 2,246 medically preserved fetal remains found on Sept. 12 tell a story of a troubled man and shine a light on the need for effective abortion oversight laws.

What kind of man ignores disposal requirements and pockets the babies he aborts as trophies? This kind of behavior reminds us of serial killers such as Ted Bundy and fellow abortionist Kermit Gosnell.

I have been following Klopfer’s career for a long time ‐ first as a pro-life concerned citizen, then as the executive director of Allen County Right to Life in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Under different circumstances, one might describe him as my archenemy, but I couldn’t see him that way. What I saw in Klopfer was a very broken man who, like all of us, was in need of God’s mercy.

ULRICH GEORGE KLOPFER’S HISTORY
Klopfer’s story starts in Dresden, Germany, where he claims to have witnessed massive causalities following Allied bombing. He said he and his family escaped from East Germany when he was a child and spent time in a refugee camp. They immigrated to the United States, and after finishing college, he entered medical school, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Filmmakers Mark and Amber Archer, who are working on a documentary about Klopfer’s Fort Wayne business location, believe his story checks out.

Almost immediately after medical school, Klopfer began his career as an abortionist. His career started in Illinois and ended in Indiana, where he eventually owned abortion businesses in Gary, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Right to Life estimates he did well more than 50,000 abortions in more than four decades.

We considered Klopfer a circuit-riding abortionist. He resided in Illinois, yet visited his Indiana abortion businesses once a week. His day in Fort Wayne, in the facility immediately next door to our office, was Thursday. He would arrive at the facility late at night on Wednesday and spend the night there before seeing pregnant women in the morning.

Regular MSNBC Guest Fantasizes About Driving Car Into Trump Building
[Federalist] Elie Mystal, an MSNBC regular who once called for a majority of white people in America to be destroyed on air, tweeted Wednesday that he regularly fantasizes about ramming his car into the lobby of a Trump Organization luxury apartment complex in a New York City suburb.

"Real talk: When you come out of the parking lot of this mall/movie theater, you have to sit a red light staring right into this lobby," Mystal wrote on Twitter, linking to an article about a recent incident in which his fantasy became a reality in Westchester. "I’ve thought about driving my car through it EVERY TIME. Basic humanity keeps me from doing it, but JUST."

In addition to his affiliation with MSNBC, Mystal is the executive editor of the "Above the Law" blog and is a contributor to The Nation.

The New York Daily News reported Tuesday, that a car accidentally ploughed into the Trump Plaza hotel resulting in minor injuries. Mystal floated a conspiracy theory that the accident was intentional, though both the Daily News and the New York Times have reported that the act was an accident.

#2  Well then he should expect a knock on the door at 3am by a SWAT team who have a writ to confiscate his automobile and any forms of mechanical locomotion in his possession - bicycles, scooters, roller and ice skates, bowflex, workout bike, so forth.

If he passes a series of psychological evaluations, he would be allowed to hire a lawyer and plead his case in a court of law.

If he wins his case, he can re-claim his property, after paying an impound storage fee, at a time determined by the warehouse.

Any future purchases of locomotion machines or parts may require a subsequent evaluation at the interviewer's time and place of convenience which may include unannounced visits to his residence any time of the day, whether he is at home or not.

Because innocence is not proven until the court appearance, employer is exempt from any wrongful termination charges until after innocence is established. Accusers can remain anonymous, and are exempt from counter-suits.

Being found guilty, he is prohibited from owning or operating any form of locomotion indefinitely. Possession or use will result in a minimum 10 years in a federal prison.

Its just common sense.

Man arrested in terrorism probe told FBI he'd execute a US service member for ISIS
[Military Times] ATLANTA ‐ An Alabama man has been apprehended as part of a yearslong terrorism probe in which the FBI says he told agents he would execute a U.S. soldier if ordered to do so by the Islamic State group.

FBI agents took Nayef Qashou into custody Monday. He’s charged with lying to the FBI and destroying records.

In a newly unsealed affidavit, the FBI says Qashou arrived in the U.S. through Atlanta’s airport in 2015, planning to study nursing at an Opelika, Alabama, community college. The FBI interviewed him more than a dozen times over the next four years.
If he arrived only four years ago he isn’t an Alabama man — he’s barely an Alabama resident.
He used encrypted phone apps to communicate with suspected terrorists who told him he should carry out an attack in the United States, the FBI said.

"Qashou would not tell interviewers exactly how he responded to the suggestion to conduct a U.S. attack," FBI Special Agent Scott Sullivan wrote in the sworn affidavit. "He stated he essentially responded by saying the only way he could justify an attack is for it to be against U.S. Armed Forces personnel on U.S. soil."

Qashou is a dual Jordanian and United States citizen who grew up in Saudi Arabia, authorities said.
According to the Daily Mail, which for once has no useful photos, our dual citizen was born in the United Arab Emirates. So how, I have to wonder, did a lad on a student visa acquire American citizenship in only four years — even during the Obama years?

[Free Beacon] MSNBC PoliticsNation host Al Sharpton mourned the passing of journalist Cokie Roberts on Tuesday by sending out a tweet with pictures of the still-living journalist Christiane Amanpour.
"Crackers all look the same to me"
Sharpton tweeted, "Saddened to hear of the passing of legendary journalist Cookie [sic] Roberts. Here is a Easter Sunday special we did in 2011. May she Rest In Peace," along with several pictures of Amanpour. Aside from the obvious misidentification of the deceased, Sharpton misspelled Roberts's name.

Afghanistan
Former SEAL, SOCOM boss McRaven says we're going to be in Afghanistan ‘for a very long time'
[Military Times] A draft agreement for peace between the U.S. and the Taliban in Afghanistan got a lot of hopes up late this summer, but the former head of U.S. special operations ― most well known for overseeing the mission that ultimately took out Osama Bin Laden ― said that making concessions to the extremist group is the wrong move.

Retired Adm. Bill McRaven, now a national security professor at the University of Texas in Austin, likened negotiating with the warlords who control much of Afghanistan’s square mileage to sitting down with ISIS, in a discussion Wednesday at the New America Special Operations Forces Policy Forum in Washington.

"And maybe that’s not a good comparison," he said. "But I do believe that if we negotiate some sort of settlement with the Taliban, and that settlement involves the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan, that, you know, it won’t be six months or a year before all of the blood and treasure we have put into Afghanistan will have been reversed because the Taliban will come back in and do what the Taliban do."

Multiple international news outlets reported in late August and early September that the Taliban and U.S. diplomats had reached an interim peace agreement after nine rounds of peace talks in Qatar.

The deal fell apart just before the 18th anniversary of 9/11, when President Donald Trump canceled a secret meeting with Taliban officials at Camp David, a direct response to the Taliban’s car-bombing of an 82nd Airborne Division soldier ― which killed him and 11 others ― days before.

McRaven never agreed with the peace talks to begin with, he said.

#8  May be on to something. If we can hyper-inflate the food prices then after 60 days only those with power connections will not be malnourished, therefore easily identified as friend or foe. With starvation affecting the sick, elderly, and young not only will the culture take a hit, but so will the next generation.

It could be right up there with the slaughter of the bison vs. Plains Indians.

With fewer workers the price of opium would dramatically increase or migratory workers imported to fill the harvest gap - and when that doesn't work perhaps a Pakistain north border crossing crises?

Trick would be keeping the UN from trading food for opium so its all over in less than 3 months instead of a slow Somalia style wither.

The C-17 is a nice touch, as I think India operates those as well, assisting in a faster delivery time. If C-5s can land in Kandahar, smaller delivery craft can be loaded for better distribution and/or localized targeting.

I believe speed and saturation are key; like that Chapelle skit where reparations get paid, and in ten minutes a bucket of chicken is running $500. Perhaps deteriorating money so if some squirters do make it to Greece - poof! no scrilla.

#11  In fairness to Herb, what to do about Afghanistan and similar 'regions' is a real problem. Used to be, we could ignore such places and their inhabitants, but globalization is all about flow - goods, money, and people. Along with disease, drugs, crime, and jihad. Leave them alone and the rottenness just festers and you end up with 9/11.

Endless low-level conflict is more a coping mechanism than a solution. Even if we can afford the financial cost, the political cost is too great once American bodies start coming home. Ramp up the violence and you the usual suspects whinging about civilian casualties.

What to do? Given the Af-Pak terrain, I like the idea of turning it into a proving range for autonomous killbots. Also wouldn't hurt to leave people with the message that you don't want us to come back again. But that involves actually doing something.

Taliban car bomb hits hospital in Afghan province of Zabul, 20 Tango Uniform
[Aljazeera] A Taliban car bomb has killed at least 20 people and wounded 95 others when it exploded near a hospital in southern Afghanistan, officials said.

The armed group said the target of the attack on Thursday was a nearby government intelligence department building in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province.

A senior defence ministry official in Kabul said the fighters wanted to target a training base for the country's powerful security agency National Directorate of Security (NDS), but parked the explosives-laden vehicle outside a hospital gate nearby.

Residents, many of whom had come to see their sick family members, used shawls and blankets to carry the wounded inside the destroyed hospital building, while authorities scrambled to take the worst of the wounded to hospitals in nearby Kandahar.

Haji Atta Jan Haqbayan, a member of the provincial council in Qalat, said 20 bodies and 95 wounded had been evacuated from the blast site.

Haqbayan said the wall of the NDS building was damaged. He couldn't say whether any personnel were among the casualties.
Update from Tolo News at 11:30 p.m. EDT:
The blast, which detonated approximately at 6 a.m, severely damaged the hospital and surrounding offices buildings and houses.

Rush: Millions of Americans Are Seething ‐ a Trump Landslide Wouldn't Surprise Me
[Rush] You’re never going to see that reflected in news media. But I’m gonna tell you what I think is happening out there. And I go up and down on this. I think it consistently, but some days I really, really think it. Other days, it’s kind of not as intense. I think that there is, across a vast expanse of this country, I think that there are millions and millions and millions of Americans who are quietly seething, quietly enraged over everything that has gone on here since Trump was inaugurated.

The Mueller investigation, the false, phony claims of collusion that amounted to nothing. The media’s acting like, "Nothing happened. Okay. So we failed." They’re not even calculating the damage to their ongoing reputations and credibility. But it is blown to smithereens. And they keep building on that. They keep adding to. Here comes this phony baloney Kavanaugh thing where it is learned that an editor spiked the very bit of morsel evidence in the story that would have disqualified the story from running.

This stuff doesn’t happen in a vacuum. People are I think ‐ well, I don’t want to put numbers on it. If Trump won 40 states, I don’t think I’d be surprised. I believe that America is still constituted by a majority of what I call normal people. I think they’re all outraged over this. They’re livid and they’re seething. But the media’s never gonna find ’em and the media’s never gonna report their attitudes. The media’s not looking for that.

Virginia Colleges Use Racial Considerations in Admissions Process
[Breitbart] The Center for Equal Opportunity released a report earlier this month that shows colleges in Virginia, including those considered elites on the university landscape, are considering race in the admissions process.

The center’s research fellow, Althea Nagai, compiled the report focused on five public universities in the commonwealth: University of Virginia, William & Mary, Virginia Tech, James Madison University, and George Mason University.

"We uncovered a significant amount of discrimination, especially at the first two schools," the center said in a press release about the report.

"Over the years, CEO has obtained data, as we did here, from public colleges and universities through state freedom of information laws, analyzed what we found, and released dozens of studies of schools all over the country," the press release said.

The report was released in conjunction with the Federalist Society’s Regulatory Transparency Project.

"Virginia’s public universities are perhaps the country’s most selective among those still allowed to use racial and ethnic preferences (California, for example, and a number of other states have banned such discrimination as a matter of state law)," the center said of its report.

#2  So, how's the business of making silk purses out of sow's ears works out?
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 09/19/2019 4:01 Comments || Top||

#3  Here's how it's working out:

"Under-represented" minorities - which does not apply to Asians - are so sparsely represented among qualified applicants that highly selective US universities fill their de facto quotas (not fewer than 20% of entering students must be afr-amer & hispanic) with fakes.

The vast majority of afr-amers admitted are either upper middle-class and biracial, like Booker or Obama, or else children of wealthy Nigerian, other African, or West Indian doctors or PhDs, like Kamala Harris's dad.

So the affirmative action program itself is a fraud. It has nothing to do with "leveling the playing field" to offset the harm done to the descendants of American slaves. It's just an upper middle-class subsidy disguised as yet more virtue signaling.

Next, these upper middle-class beneficiaries of aff action often cannot compete as equals after they get admitted. Their dropout rates are usually many points higher than dropout rates for whites and Asians; their graduate school admissions test scores are far lower on average; and they heavily incline toward BS "studies" majors and shy away from rigorous majors.

Finally, the collapse of this model occurs at the graduate school level, where the aff action admits cluster at the bottom of the law school or med school class. At this point, they have to start competing as equals, and they fail in truly impressive numbers. They fail again in far higher than average numbers when it's time to pass professional certification tests, and they fail when they're starting out as lawyers or doctors.

The above is an almost perfect description of Obama's shambolic failed career as a lawyer. Even his signature "achievement" - winning a popularity contest among his classmates to be elected to a non-merit based Harvard Law Review editor spot - was bogus.

The guy couldn't produce a single article. He can't write at all. He lacks the brainpower to do the work. He is your poster child for aff action: all virtue signaling and "creased pants," and no substance.

Your Colt manufactured AR-15 just gained 20% in value
[Gear Scout] Legendary small arms manufacturer Colt has officially bowed away from producing long guns for the civilian market.

The Truth About Guns reported that the move came to light after one of Colt’s numerous retailers, RSR Group, announced to their customers that the company had made it known that they would cease building and selling rifles to the civilian market in order to pay more attention to regaining lost ground on vital military contracts.

Colt’s current lineup of rifles is all based entirely on the AR platform.

Colt made waves in the long gun market in the 1960s after buying the design and trademarks associated with ArmaLite’s select-fire AR-15 and AR-10 rifles, the former of which was adopted by the US military as the M16 assault rifle.

By the mid-1960s, Colt began selling a semi-automatic version, dubbed the Colt AR-15, to the civilian market, and the rifle began steadily ascending in popularity among a variety of consumers, from recreational shooters, hunters, and law enforceme nt.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Nation's Murderous Psychopaths Undecided On Whether They'll Follow New Gun Laws
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐Democrats such as Beto O’Rourke have proposed a number of new gun laws, such as universal background checks, a ban on magazines that hold more than ten bullets, and possibly even a "mandatory buyback" of some weapons such as AR-15s. While these laws are likely to be a headache for law-abiding gun owners, the nation’s murderous psychopaths aren’t quite certain how the laws will affect them.

"The background check sounds concerning," explained deranged murderer Steve Mason, known as "Murdering Steve" to his friends. "I would definitely fail it since I’m a well-known psychopath. But I’ve never actually purchased a gun through a gun-dealer; I just steal all my murder weapons. And so far no one has proposed a background check on theft, so I think I’m good."

Jake Foster, who is planning a shooting spree, expressed similar concerns about the ban on "high-capacity" magazines. "Having to do a shooting spree and reloading after every tenth shot does sound irritating," said Foster. "Despite the law, I might just use a high-capacity magazine anyway. I guess the question is whether I’m willing to deal with a possible fine on top of the multiple counts of murder."

One law murderous psychopaths did seem excited about was the AR-15 buyback. "If they offer a lot of money for my AR-15, it could be pretty worthwhile," said nutjob Craig McGee. "Then I can use that money to buy more guns just as lethal... but through the black market, of course. Gotta avoid those background checks."

Michelle Malkin: Corporate America at Center of Open Borders Inc.
[Breitbart] "Corporate America [is] right at the center of Open Borders Inc.," said Michelle Malkin, referring to a network of interests ‐ financial, ideological, and political ‐ invested in perpetuating the status quo of both legal and illegal immigration.

She joined Tuesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with hosts Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak to discuss her latest book, Open Borders Inc.: Who’s Funding America’s Destruction?, ahead of a scheduled Thursday Senate vote on S. 386, the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act.
Informally named the "country caps" bill, S. 386 would remove country-based limits on H-1B visa issuances.

"The hatred by the left and the Democrat Media Complex ... as Andrew Breitbart made so clear to people ‐ that nexus, and how they cooperate to foist false narratives. These caravans didn’t just start happening when Trump took office. In fact, for several years now, the media has not paid attention to it," Malkin said.

Various Catholic organizations are beneficiaries of contracts with the federal government to service refugees, noted Malkin.

"The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, of course, is the biggest bigfoot when it comes to lobbying for amnesty and an unlimited pipeline of refugees because they’re one of the nine holders of those exclusive, lucrative contracts for refugee resettlement," Malkin said. "The Catholics even have their own social justice arm of lawyers who are down at the border working with other NGOs and Soros-funded groups ... who are there to provide know-your-rights-seminars as soon as they greet people at the border."

Malkin added, "[There are] countless stories of people being coached to supply manufactured stories of persecution to game our asylum system. It’s amazing how this network all works together and how they’re all getting a cut of it."

Not really amazing at all. This is the logic of virtue-signaling: every party involved engages in rhetorical displays of Right Thinking - ritual gestures and public statements about "god's children," "diversity is our strength," and other BS - and each party gets a tangible material benefit.

It's basically a modern version of the papal indulgences of the middle ages.

Look at cui bono:

- BUSINESS gets cheap labor - and thanks to their SJW posture, they keep boycotters off their backs, journalists off the scent and legislators' and regulators' distracted from their abuse of employment laws;

- the CATHOLIC CHURCH gets a fresh wave of millions of docile, devout new parishioners who will not question the clergy or the hierarchy - either from the right or from the left - but will fill the pews and the schools to take the place of more sophisticated American Catholics who are disgusted with the pedophile scandals;

- HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES, PERFORMERS AND EXECS get to position themselves as pro-latino for a large and growing mass market audience for their crap products which are under siege now from digital channels;

- JOURNALISTS get a ready store of sob stories that can easily be manipulated into fake exposes of the sort that win prizes, regardless of their accuracy, from their own virtue-signaling awards organizations such as Pulitzer...

... and on and on.

Chinese National Pleads Guilty to California ‘Birth Tourism' Plot
[Free Beacon] A Chinese national pleaded guilty to running an illegal "birth tourism" scheme in California, where she charged clients thousands of dollars to help them give birth in the United States in order to obtain U.S. citizenship for their children.

Dongyuan Li, 41, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit immigration fraud and one count of visa fraud. She is the first of 19 individuals charged in connection to three state-wide birth tourism schemes to plead guilty. The rest of the defendants are either fugitives or awaiting trial, a press release from the U.S. attorney's office stated.

Li admitted to running a birth tourism company from 2013 until March 2015 called "You Win USA Vacation Services Corp," which helped pregnant foreign nationals travel to and stay in the United States until they gave birth. This would allow their children to receive birthright citizenship under U.S. law. Prosecutors said the women would pay $40,000 to $80,000 for the service, according to the L.A. Times.

The company advertised that it had assisted more than 500 foreign nationals to travel to the United States. The assistance involved securing apartments in California while advising customers to make false statements to U.S. customs officials, such as lying about the length of time and where the nationals were staying in the country.

Paleostinian eyewitnesses said two of the three rockets struck outside a home in the southern city of Rafah, and a third fell near the fence separating Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Gaza’s Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,-run health ministry said seven people were maimed, but didn’t elaborate on their condition.

Also Wednesday evening, the army said a mortar shell was fired at Israel from Gaza, but appeared to have landed inside the enclave.

The attack did not trigger rocket sirens in any Israeli community, but did set off alarms in an open field in the Eshkol region of southern Israel, a regional spokesperson said.

"A failed launch from the Gaza Strip was detected. It did not cross into Israeli territory," the army said.

The attack came amid ongoing tensions between Israel and terror groups in the Strip, following multiple rocket attacks last week.

Biden: My Child-Care Tax Credit Will Add 720 Million Women To The Work Force!
[Hot Air] Only 720 million? Why not just promise a gazillion? Joe Biden tried selling his child-care tax credit plan yesterday by lamenting that the US tax code provides deductions for racehorses but not for child care. His plan, Biden promised, would put into the workforce six times as many adult women as actually exist in the US at the moment.

-Land of the Free
Michelle Malkin: Anchor Baby Policy the ‘Ultimate Magnet' for Illegal Aliens
[Breitbart] Columnist and author of the latest book, Open Borders, Inc: Who’s Funding America’s Destruction?, Michelle Malkin says providing birthright citizenship to the United States-born children of illegal aliens is the "ultimate magnet."
During an exclusive interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Tonight, Malkin said that allowing the U.S.-born children of illegal aliens ‐ commonly referred to as "anchor babies" ‐ to automatically gain American citizenship simply for being born within the parameters of the country is "not how a sovereign" nation operates their national immigration system.

"Birthright citizenship for illegal aliens is the ultimate magnet ... and again, that is why you’ve got pregnant women ‐ not just from Mexico and Central America but from around the world ‐ traveling here dangerously when they are eight months ... pregnant," Malkin said.

"We have seen local stories coming out of not only out of the southwest border, but for example through airports of entry in Florida or along both coasts where people know that’s their golden ticket," Malkin continued.

Malkin said her father, a neonatologist who immigrated from the Philippines, would often tell stories of foreign nationals from around the world who arrived in the country to ensure their children were given automatic American citizenship despite having no ties to the U.S.

"My father, who was a legal immigrant to this country and a naturalized American, was a neonatologist in Atlantic City," Malkin said. "And he would come home with stories about people from Africa, Korea, and Russia whose sole goal was to give birth in this country and then sit back and watch all the benefits flow. This is not how a sovereign country should run its immigration system."

Trump promised in October 2018 that he would end birthright citizenship through an executive order, but the issue has stalled since then. To date, the U.S. Supreme Court has never explicitly ruled that the children of illegal aliens must be granted birthright citizenship, and many legal scholars dispute the idea.

Today, there are at least 4.5 million anchor babies in the U.S., exceeding the annual roughly four million American babies born every year and costing American taxpayers about $2.4 billion every year to subsidize hospital costs. Every year, about 300,000 anchor babies are born in the country and as of June, there has been an average of about 124,000 anchor babies already born this year.

Re-Engineering Humans: An Old Solution to Climate Change
h/t Instapundit
It's no coincidence that global warming took off as an issue just as the Soviet Union fell; it's top-down centralized government's last best hope of controlling the masses. And like other forms of totalitarian worldviews, it doubles as a religion as well, as Czech President Vaclav Klaus noted late last year:
"I’m convinced that after years of studying the phenomenon, global warming is not the real issue of temperature," said Klaus, an economist by training. "That is the issue of a new ideology or a new religion. A religion of climate change or a religion of global warming. This is a religion which tells us that the people are responsible for the current, very small increase in temperatures. And they should be punished."

Of course, it's no fun for totalitarians unless they can punish people en masse. An article at Live Science titled, "Engineering Humans: A New Solution to Climate Change?" should leave all but the truest believers of "global warming/climate change/climate chaos/whatever it's called this week" more than a little terrified:
Sooner, or later (hopefully not too late) we'll have to go full MacDonough on these "people"

German commissioner says local BDS chapter incited against U.S. synagogue
[Jerusalem Post] The commissioner of the Hessian Federal State Government for Jewish Life and the Fight Against Antisemitism has filed a criminal complaint against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement’s chapter in the German city of Wiesbaden.

Uwe Becker said that he filed the complaint after the chapter posted several tweets that targeted Israel and also led to anti-Jewish incitement.

The "Wiesbaden branch of the antisemitic BDS movement stoked incitement on social media that targeted an American synagogue with antisemitic insults" last Thursday, Becker told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday. "Wiesbaden termed the State of Israel, in its statements on social media, as a ’Zionist colony,’ and the flag of the Jewish state as a symbol of a genocidal, colonialist ideology."

The BDS group’s tweets were replies to a post by American philanthropist Adam Milstein, who tweeted a video showing the Baba Sale Synagogue in Los Angeles vandalized with "Free Paleostine" graffiti.

Milstein condemned the graffiti, tweeting that "BDS is the 21st Century #Antisemitism, it radicalized all other turban movements, promotes violence against Jews and resembles the Nazi methods to boycott The Jewish people." Wiesbaden’s BDS chapter replied with several tweets.

The commissioner said he considers the group’s statements on social media "deeply antisemitic," and that the tweets exceed the threshold of incitement.

Specifically, Becker cited statements made by the group about the American synagogue, which it called a "Zionist organization," and said that anyone who "shows the Zionist flag must be confronted with the crimes of the Zionist colony."

"With this statement, BDS Wiesbaden refers to a photograph of the interior of the synagogue, in which, among others, the Israeli flag can be seen," said Becker, adding that "the Wiesbaden chapter emphasizes that graffiti on synagogues ’would not occur if they did not act as messages of the Zionist colony,’ and ’that a house of prayer should not be decorated with the symbol of a genocidal, colonialist ideology."

He said that their statements demonstrate that "the BDS movement is not only about criticism of Israeli government action, but with the name of ’Zionist colony’ denies the existence of the entire State of Israel.

The Wiesbaden BDS chapter’s Twitter account has only around 150 followers, though it is linked to the main website of the BDS umbrella organization, which has many more. Becker furnished the Post with screenshots of the alleged anti-Jewish incitement.

"This is pure hatred of Israel, and the Wiesbaden BDS chapter has very clearly dropped its antisemitic mask," said Becker, who is known to have gone to great lengths to combat rising Jew-hatred in Germany.

German authorities and judges tend to favor the rights of contemporary antisemites in their rulings. A key exception was in 2015, when a judge in the west German city of Essen, Gauri Sastry, convicted 24-year-old Taylan Can for incitement after he yelled "Death and hate to Zionists" at an anti-Israel rally in 2014.

"’Zionist’ in the language of antisemites is a code for ’Jew,’" Sastry ruled in her groundbreaking legal decision.

Turkish court rules to keep U.S. consulate worker in jail lawyer
[AlAhram] A Ottoman Turkish court ruled on Wednesday to keep a U.S. consulate employee in jail as his trial on espionage charges continues, a lawyer said, meaning he will remain in detention until the next hearing in December.

Metin Topuz, a Ottoman Turkish translator and fixer for the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) at the U.S. consulate in Istanbul, has been in jug for 23 months. The next hearing in the case was set for Dec. 11, said his lawyer, Halit Akalp.

Topuz is charged with espionage and links to the network of holy man Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world. Gülen and Erdogan used to be really good friends, but only one of them could be sultan, and Gülen lost...
, who is based in the United States and blamed by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
for plotting the failed 2016 coup. Washington says Topuz is innocent.

The court has repeatedly said it wants to hear another witness in the case file. But lawyers on Wednesday told the court that the address on record for that witness did not exist.

In his final defence ahead of the ruling, Topuz said he did not accept the accusations and demanded his acquittal.

Lawyers for Topuz applied in January to the Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an Court of Human Rights and the court accepted the application, a person close to the matter told Rooters on Tuesday.

The trial of Topuz has been one of various sources of strain in already fragile ties between NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
allies Turkey and the United States.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Airstrike on Iran-backed militia near Iraq-Syria border said to kill at least 5
[IsraelTimes] Reports say strike hits base belonging to Popular Mobilization Force for second time in two days; some have blamed Israel for attacks.

Unknown aircraft attacked posts of Iranian-backed fighters in eastern Syria, near the Iraqi border, in the predawn hours of Thursday morning, killing at least five people, according to Arabic media reports.

Sky News Arabia, citing Iraqi security officials, said the strikes targeted a base belonging to the Popular Mobilization Force, an umbrella group of largely Iran-backed militias, killing five and wounding nine.

It was the second strike on positions controlled by Shiite militias in the Boukamal region of Syria in as many days, and the third in a month. Some Syrian and Iraqi outlets said Israel was suspected of being behind the strikes. There were no such public allegations by Syrian or Iraqi officials.

According to the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 10 pro-Iranian fighters were killed in an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
Tuesday by unmanned aerial vehicles, which reportedly targeted a training camp and ammunition storehouse.

The Observatory and activist collective Deir Ezzor 24 said the strikes occurred near a newly constructed, but not yet operational Syrian border crossing with Iraq. The opening of the crossing, planned by Iraq and Syria, had been postponed several times in recent weeks.

On September 9, aircraft targeted an arms depot and posts of Iranian-backed militias in the Boukamal region, killing at least 18 fighters and destroying at least eight storehouses. A Syrian security official said at the time that Israeli jets were behind the attack but denied there were casualties.

The Southern Slave Economy Was Anti-Capitalistic
h/t Instapundit
The discussion around the political economy of slavery has been one of the central debates in the academic study of the Peculiar Institution in the Antebellum South. Traditionally, the Southern economy was considered non-capitalistic and pre-bourgeoise; a pre-industrialized economy that struggled to thrive due to the lack of incentives imposed by slave labor, the absence of a legal framework that stimulated the emergence of capitalism and a backward, agriculture-based economy.

...In other words, the South was an inefficient economy where the entrepreneurial search for profits typical of capitalist economies was secondary. Instead, a quasi-aristocratic class (the planters) acted like medieval landowners more concerned about their culture of honor, power, and appearances than maximizing profits.

This analysis was challenged by the publication in 1974 of the controversial work Time on the Cross: The Economics of American Slavery. The authors, Nobel-awarded economist Robert W. Fogel and economic historian Stanley L. Engerman, applied novel econometric techniques to the study of slavery.

In a nutshell, Fogel and Engerman (F&E) concluded that:

i) slavery was economically profitable;

ii) slave labor was more efficient than free labor;

iii) planters behaved as modern entrepreneurs in a capitalist economy; and

iv) the South was not as underdeveloped as it had been suggested in comparison with the North.

In short, F&E suggested that the Southern economy was mostly capitalistic despite being largely based on slave labor. To what extent are these conclusions accurate?

...In any case, the level of coordination achieved by the market process when it comes to allocating human capital to its most productive uses cannot be attained in a slave economy. Furthermore, the lack of incentives under slavery kills the productive capacity of workers, reducing the overall efficiency. Therefore, F&E’s thesis on the superior efficiency of slave labor cannot be convincingly sustained.

...It cannot be denied that the South incorporated certain aspects of capitalism due to the fact that its economy largely depended on the demand for cotton that came from several parts of the world. However, the South lagged behind the North in terms of urbanization and economic and social development precisely because market capitalism did not seep through the channels of the Southern economy.

The Peculiar Institution was, without doubt, the main cause of the economic, political, and social backwardness in the Antebellum South.

#2  The Peculiar Institution was, without doubt, the main cause of the economic, political, and social backwardness in the Antebellum South.

Probably didn't help that the Yankees destroyed what was there which didn't recover till WWII. Seems the rest of American after 1865 grew quite well economically without too much of a problem, thus making the contention that slavery made America more than bogus.

#3  This whole thesis - slavery = the highest expression of capitalism - is retarded.

Even the Marxist doctrine of history recognizes that there's no connection between slavery and capitalist competition and microeconomic models of how firms behave, models for ownership of the firm, investment models etc.

More crap scholarship of the sort that has degraded the social sciences and turned so much of academe into a joke.

The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
to last weekend’s attacks on its state-owned oil installations. The revelations come as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrives in Riyadh to discuss potential retaliation.

Saudi Arabia’s defense ministry front man Col. Turki al-Maliki cast doubt on the claim that drones or cruise missiles thought to have been used in the attack could have reached the facility from Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, calling this a "false narrative".

Speaking at a presser in the Saudi capital on Wednesday evening, the defense ministry front man said the evidence and calculations based on the range of such weapons suggests the attack came from the north.

"The attack was launched from the north and unquestionably sponsored by Iran," Maliki said. "We are working to know the exact launch point."

This raises questions as to whether the attack originated from Iran or even from Iraqi territory, where Iran-backed militias have a significant presence.

That the attack was sponsored by Iran is "undeniable", he added.

Debris from the attack was presented at the press briefing including parts of an Iranian-made delta-wing UAV drone and a "Ya Ali" cruise missile.

Three cruise missiles hit the facility before Saudi air defense batteries blocked further impacts, the front man said.

Eighteen UAVs and seven cruise missiles were fired in total, he added.

The front man called the attack an "affront to international law" and "an assault on the international community".

"We call the international community to condemn this Iranian brutal attack," he said.

Not from Drone and missile strikes.

Police eject 800 migrants from camp in France
More about this story from yesterday.
[DAWN] French police cleared more than 800 migrants on Tuesday from a makeshift camp that sprung up outside a gymnasium near the northern port of Dunkirk last spring, after a court ruled it had become a health and security hazard.

The mayor of Grande-Synthe opened the gym to migrants last December to keep families out of the cold, and had planned to close it with the return of warmer weather.

But hundreds of others, mainly young Iraqi Kurd men, soon began pitching tents around the site while they waited for a chance to try to reach Britain.

The government later installed water faucets, bathrooms and showers after aid groups filed a complaint on humanitarian grounds with France’s State Council, which hears claims against administrative authorities.

But this month the city’s mayor sought and obtained a court order to shut down the camp, citing complaints from local authorities and residents about violence, garbage and the presence of people-smugglers among the migrants.

Police moved in shortly after 8am, putting the migrants on buses to bring them to shelters elsewhere where they can apply for asylum, before workers began dismantling the tents.

A total of 811 people, including 506 young men and 58 unaccompanied minors, were cleared from the gym and makeshift camp, the government’s top regional official said.

“I think everyone here was glad to get out of this shantytown,” the official, Michel Lalande, told journalists.

GM no longer paying for striking workers' health insurance as negotiations enter 3rd day
No SHIT?? You're on strike, what did you expect?
[ABCNews] General Motors is no longer paying the health care costs for the tens of thousands of auto workers who went on strike on Monday, shifting the costs instead to a union fund.

More than 49,000 union workers walked off their jobs on Sunday night, starting a nationwide strike at General Motors. As negotiations enter their third day on Wednesday, the health coverage for striking workers will no longer be covered by GM.

Mary Kay Henry, the president of the Service Employees International Union which represents more than 2 million members slammed the news in a statement, calling it "heartless and unconscionable."

"GM's decision to yank healthcare coverage away from their dedicated employees, in the dead of night, with no warning, is heartless and unconscionable. GM's actions could put people's lives at risk, from the factory worker who needs treatment for their asthma to the child who relies on their parents' insurance for chemotherapy," she said. "Thankfully these men and women have their union, which is making sure working people and their families can continue to get care."

In a statement to ABC News, GM expressed sympathy that "strikes can be difficult and disruptive to families."

Bill de Blasio: A candidate not even his wife would vote for?
[AMERICANTHINKER]
Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said the "0" listed in the cross-tabs really means less than 1%.

"One person in the sample chose Bill de Blasio
...cryptocommie mayor of New York and for some reason a Dem candidate for president in 2020. Corrupt and incompetent, his qualifications for office seem to consist of being married to a black woman, with whom he honeymooned in Cuba. He has a preppy-looking son named Dante, whose Divine Comedy involved getting his back hair up when a police car drove past him slowly...
for president," Greenberg said. That’s out of 359 Democrats queried statewide.

So, symbolically, or perhaps figuratively, or who knows, maybe literally, that lone supporter would have to be him, meaning, his support is so low it might not even reflect support from his wife or family members who could pad it upward.

Oh, maybe they support him in real life, but if they did, their support factor would be so significant given the wasteland out there that it might just make a difference in the guy who's currently polling zero. Unless of course, they aren't for him, either.

Socialism, incompetence, an angry police force on an undeclared strike with a rising crime rate, the turning of public schools into garbage dumps by getting rid of gifted and talented programs, and businesses and talent fleeing the city due to a hostile business environment all amount to de Blasio's sorry entire record. How does he look at himself in the morning?

Early reports of Syrian troops withdrawing from several areas in eastern Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] According to some early reports from Idlib, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is withdrawing their troops from the eastern countryside of the governorate.

The reports claim that the Syrian Arab Army is withdrawing their forces from the Sinjar District, which includes the towns of Kefraya Maara and Ejaz.

They would add that the withdrawal has to do with the arrival of the Russian military police, who are expected to take over the Syrian Arab Army’s checkpoints in eastern Idlib.

Al-Masdar is awaiting an official response from the Syrian Arab Army regarding these early reports from the Idlib Governorate.

Earlier this month, the Syrian Arab Army withdrew their troops from the northern Hama town of Morek; they were later replaced by the Russian military police, who began to man their checkpoints.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has expressed their desire, with the help of their Ottoman Turkish counterparts, to eventually reopen the highways in the Idlib Governorate.

With the Syrian Army’s large-scale advance last month, the latter now controls the entire Hama portion of the Idlib-Hama Highway all the way up to the city of Khan Sheikhoun.

Trump administration revokes California’s authority to set auto mileage standards
[FOXNEWS] In a move President Trump said will reduce car prices but will also anger environmental groups, the administration is revoking Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,'s authority to set strict fuel economy standards.

Trump announced the move Wednesday, saying the decision was made "in order to produce far less expensive cars for the consumer," while making cars safer at the same time.

"This will lead to more production because of this pricing and safety advantage, and also due to the fact that older, highly polluting cars, will be replaced by new, extremely environmentally friendly cars," Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,'s authority to set its own emissions standards tougher than the federal government's goes back to a waiver issued by Congress during passage of the Clean Air Act in 1970. The state has long pushed automakers to adopt more fuel-efficient passenger vehicles that emit less pollution. A dozen states and the District of Columbia also follow Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,'s fuel economy standards.

The Trump administration decision revokes that waiver, touching off what is sure to be another high-profile legal fight with the Golden State.

In anticipation of the move, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Tuesday that the administration's action will hurt both U.S. automakers and American families. He said California would fight the administration in federal court.

Dan Brouillette: ‘Impossible’ to Reduce ‘Carbon Emissions’ Without ‘Nuclear Energy’
[BREITBART] A national energy strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions yielded from the burning of fossil fuels requires the use of nuclear energy, determined Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette, offering his analysis in a Tuesday interview on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

Those opposing the use of nuclear energy ‐ or neglecting to highlight its value within a national energy policy ‐ cannot be "serious" or "sincere" in their stated concerns to address carbon dioxide emissions, stated Brouillette.

"It’s hard to know what to make of that, except it’s nonsense, for the most part," said Brouillette of opposition to fracking and broader fossil fuel development.

Increasing domestic production of fossil fuels and alternatives increases American autonomy in the dimension of energy, explained Brouillette. "[We must reduce] our dependence on countries that, candidly, do not have our interests in mind. ... In the ’70s [and] ’80s we were highly dependent [on the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries]. These were countries that were adversaries, quite frankly, and I am very proud of the work this president [and] administration has done to turn that around."

...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
as the largest exporter of oil in the world, so we’ve turned this around quite dramatically," noted Brouillette.

Syrian Army finds alleged ‘chemical weapons tunnel’ used in Khan Sheikhoun
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has uncovered a tunnel that is filled with chemical hazard equipment and weapons inside the town of Khan Sheikhoun.

Video footage captured by the Union News channel shows the Syrian Army inside the cave and combing through the contents that were left behind by the hard boy forces and White Helmets.

According to the Syrian Army, the cave was used by the White Helmets to "fabricate’ chemical attacks", citing the equipment found in this former base as proof.

On April 4th, 2017, the hard boy forces, then in control of Khan Sheikhoun, accused the Syrian military of using chemical weapons during an aerial attack over the city.

The Syrian Arab Army and Russian Armed Forces denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
but the U.S. administration made the decision to launch an attack on the Shayrat Airbase in response to claims.

The Syrian government maintains the attack was fabricated by the White Helmets, while the opposition says this one of many chemical attacks carried out by the military.

Jihadists prevent civilians from reaching Idlib crossing into gov’t areas
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels in the Idlib Governorate are preventing civilians from reaching one of the important crossings between their area and the government territories, a source told al-Masdar News.

According to the military source, the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
have repeatedly forced civilians to disperse from the Abu Dhuhour Crossing in southeast Idlib.

The source said Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham has used force and arbitrary arrests to prevent the return of civilians to the government areas.

The Abu Dhuhour Crossing was recently reopened by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) after the Ottoman Turkish and Russian armed forces agreed to facilitate the return of civilians to the southern part of the Idlib Governorate

This decision to reopen the Abu Dhuhour Crossing came shortly after the Syrian Arab Army declared the territories under their control in northern Hama and southern Idlib to be safe.

The Abu Dhuhour Crossing was established by the Syrian and Russian Armed Forces after their troops retook the airport and town in this part of southeastern Idlib.

Taliban Must Demonstrate Commitment To Peace: Pompeo
Now this is a very different kind of negotiation.
[ToloNews] The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has condemned the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s Tuesday suicide kabooms in Parwan province and Kabul, saying: "Taliban must begin to demonstrate a genuine commitment to peace rather than continue the violence and destruction."

"Just today, the Taliban has grabbed credit for a terrorist attack carried out by a jacket wallah in Kabul that killed more than 20 Afghans," Pompeo said in the statement, adding that they also grabbed credit for the blast at President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
’s campaign rally. This explosion in Charikar killed more than two dozen people waiting to hear President Ghani speak.

Pompeo said that Afghanistan has endured blackouts and other challenges as a result of Taliban attacks, referring to the downed power lines that carry electricity from Uzbekistan to hospitals, schools, and homes in many areas of the country.

"Through these attacks, the Taliban demonstrate blatant disregard for the people and institutions of Afghanistan," Pompeo said, insisting that for "Afghans to truly reconcile" they must not "continue the violence and destruction that causes such inordinate harm to the Afghan people and the future of their country."

On Tuesday morning, 26 people were killed and 42 maimed by a suicide bomber at President Ghani’s campaign rally in the central province of Parwan. The attack took place at 11:40 a.m. in the city of Charikar after a suicide bomber on a cycle of violence detonated his explosives where dozens of people were entering the meeting place, local officials said.

The second attack of the day was in the city of Kabul, and at least 22 non-combatants were killed and 38 others were maimed after a suicide bomber detonated his explosive close a Ministry of Defense building in PD9.

The Taliban have grabbed credit for both attacks.

These attacks follow the recent shutdown of peace talks by US President Donald after the Taliban grabbed credit for a suicide attack in Kabul that killed 12, including an American soldier, on September 2.

Former Israeli agent Fakhoury admits Lebanese Communist Party’s role in SLA’s defeat
[ALMASDARNEWS] The former Israeli agent and officer of the Israel-backed South Lebanese Army (SLA), Amer Elias Fakhoury,
...the Lebanese-American dual citizen appears in our archives just once, upon his arrest a few days ago, where he is named as both Amer Fakhoury and Amer al-Fakhoury...
allegedly admitted his forces’ defeat at the hands of the Islamic and leftist resistance during the years following the 1989 Taif Agrement, al-Diyar reported.

The former military commander of the notorious Khiyam Prison allegedly told the Lebanese authorities that he worked directly with Israel and acquired Israeli nationality after the SLA’s defeat in 2000.

During the interrogation by the Lebanese authorities, Fakhoury revealed the role of the Lebanese national resistance in fighting Israel during the 1980s and the military operations that targeted the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the South Leb Army at the time.

According to Fakhoury, the liquidation attempt of SLA commander Antoine Lahad, which was carried out by Souha Bechara of the Lebanese Communist Party, had a significant role in accelerating the withdrawal of the Israeli military from Leb.

"I was very shocked and realized that Israel would withdraw from Leb after the communist resistance operation," al-Diyar quoted Fakhoury.

"Antoine Lahad was no longer able to speak as before the liquidation attempt," Fakhoury reported.

Fakhoury allegedly pointed out that the liquidation attempt caused great shock in the Israeli circles, which tried to tame the situation through new resolutions and tried to find a strong military officer to take over the command of the SLA by wooing some Lebanese officers, but they ultimately failed.

The SLA officer said the liquidation attempt on Lahad revealed that the Lebanese Communist Party was deeply embedded in the SLA, leaving many in the group to mistrust their own members.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Armed Forces have allegedly given the Syrian military the green light to use their S-300 system against Israeli warplanes that enter their airspace, the Russian aviation publication Avia.Pro reported.
"I'd shoot and scoot if I were you, though"
"Against the background of how Israel was repeatedly seen striking at Syria despite the previously reached agreements between Russia and Israel, a source told Avia.pro that the Syrian military received permission to use its air defense systems in case of the slightest threat from Israel, provided that the Syrian side bears responsibility for such actions," Avia.Pro said.

Despite completing the installation of their S-300 batteries in the Masyaf area of Hama this year, the Syrian Armed Forces have yet to use these air defense systems against the Israeli warplanes that have repeatedly bombed the country.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
based on what Avia.Pro has reported, the Syrian Armed Forces appear to be reliant on the Russian military to use these air defense systems against the Israeli Air Force jets that violate their airspace.

"Russia allowed the Syrian military to put the S-300 on full alert and attack Israeli aircraft in the event of the slightest threat," a military source told Avia.Pro.

The effectiveness of the S-300 against the Israeli Air Force has been in question since its installation, as the latter has carried out attacks as far east as the Deir Ezzor Governorate and as far north as Aleppo.

Civil society continues protest in Karachi against Sindh govt's 'failure to ensure rights of minorities'
[DAWN] Civil society activists and members of the Hindu community held a protest in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's Clifton area on Wednesday against the Sindh government's "failure to ensure the rights of minority citizens".

Protestors staged a sit-in at Teen Talwar and carried banners inscribed with slogans calling for the provision of justice for Dr Nimrita Chandani, who was found dead at a medical college in Larkana.

A large number of real estate agents were among the protestors in a show of support for Nimrita's father, who is a real estate agent, said South SSP Sheeraz Nazeer.

Others included civil society activist Mohammed Jibran Nasir, Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
leader Zakir Mahenti, and PTI MNA Ramesh Kumar.

The protest, which began in the evening, continued till late into the night. It was called off temporarily ‐ with a resolve to begin again on Thursday ‐ after assurances were given by the government that a meeting will be held between the protestor delegation and the law advisor.

"Protest for #JusticeForNimerta & #GhotkiTemple will begin again tomorrow at #TeenTalwar at 5pm. Protest was temporarily called off today after assurance from Govt that Advisor Law will meet protestors delegation tomorrow. Protest will begin at 5pm and continue till demands are met," said Nasir in a post on Twitter.

The main Clifton road was "partially" closed for traffic due to the protest, said SSP Nazeer. He added that the protesters were staging the sit-in at the side of the main road, therefore, the traffic was not diverted on alternative roads.

Nimrita, a BDS final-year student at Bibi Aseefa Dental College, Larkana was found dead in her hostel on Sept 16. The protesters have termed it as "a murder of a student belonging to the Hindu community".

They have demanded a judicial inquiry led by a judge of Sindh High Court into the death of the student. They have also urged the government to suspend the hostel warden and demand the issuance of a show cause notice to the vice chancellor of the medical university in Larkana.

Tripoli Protection Force rejects dialogue with "killers of Libyans"
[Libya Observer] Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Protection Force (TPF) called on the Presidential Council to look for the greater good of the country and people and do away with the narrow interests of certain parties and factions who wish to repeat the past by focusing on seizing power only.

TPF said in a statement on Tuesday that it is following the latest developments and calls for a political solution in Libya along with the meetings of Presidential Council's Head Fayez al-Sarraj to find a national project to end the conflict.

TPF reiterated rejection to military rule and its firm resistance and fighting against the remaining forces of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
on the outskirts of Tripoli.

"We are against terrorism and extremism and against using them by Haftar's forces as a pretext to undermine their opponents to please their supporters." It said, adding that the state authorities must start looking into corruption and avoid being selective in exacting laws.

"The Presidential Council should take measures against the counties that backed up war on Tripoli in order to hold them accountable for targeting airports and vital institutions in the country." It added.

TPF indicated that it had joined the forces under the command of Central and Western Military Zones to end the conflict and reach a comprehensive settlement in Libya.

Suicide bomber, gunmen attack Afghan government building
[DAWN] At least four people were killed and a dozen others injured when button men stormed a crowded government building in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, following a suicide kaboom, with desperate survivors leaping from windows to escape the fighting, witnesses and officials said.

Security forces rushed to the scene after gunnies attacked the office in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province, in the latest violence to hit the war-torn country as it gears up for a presidential election on September 28.

Terrified children at a nearby school climbed over walls to get further away from the fighting.

A provincial front man, Ataullah Khogyani, said a jacket wallah had initially detonated explosives, after which the button men attacked.

Security forces fought to clear the building for several hours before declaring all three button men dead, interior ministry front man Nasrat Rahimi said roughly six hours after the attack began.

Witnesses and an AFP news hound could hear gunshots immediately after the initial blast.

One of the centre's employees, Haji Qudrat, described the moment one of the button men entered his office. "After the earth-shattering kaboom, we heard small gunfire in our corridor, then a man entered our office with a gun and started shooting," he told AFP from a hospital in Jalalabad, where he was receiving treatment for a maimed leg.

"I jumped out the window. Some of our friends are either killed or maimed." Qudrat said there had been around 200 people inside the centre when the bomber detonated ‐ 80 employees, and the rest people waiting to receive their national electronic identity cards, or "tazkiras".

"I was in class when I heard a big explosion followed by intense gunfire," said Mohammad Ullah, a teacher at a nearby school.

"The kids started crying so we had to vacate the school. We jumped over the walls to take the students to a safer place," he told AFP.

No group has claimed the attack. Both the Taliban

Tolo News adds:
A 5-hour-long gunfight in Jalalabad on Wednesday was concluded after all four attackers were killed by Afghan security forces.

The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that four civilians have died, and earlier updates reported over a dozen people wounded.

The attack began at 1:30 p.m. with a suicide bomb exploding near the “Electronic National Identity Cards Department (e-NIC)” in Police District 3 of Jalalabad city in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.

Pippi Thunberg wins Amnesty’s highest human rights award
[DAWN] Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for Future youth movement received Amnesty International’s “Ambassadors of Conscience” award on Monday for their work highlighting the need for urgent action to avert climate disaster.

The 16-year-old, who is taking a year out of high school, received a standing ovation from students at The George Washington University in the US capital where the ceremony was held.

“The politics required to take on this crisis simply doesn’t exist today,” Thunberg said, standing on a step to reach the microphone.

“That is why every single one of us must push from every possible angle to hold those responsible accountable and to make the people in power act.”

She added that the prize was not just for her but the millions of youth who have taken part since last year in weekly school strikes held every Friday, inspired by the sit-in she began outside Sweden’s parliament in August 2018.

Pippi Longstocking was exactly what I thought seeing her photo for the first time, and with a production like that it is impossible to think that there isn't an image consultant involved, especially considering her father's career and pedigree. I guess Princess Leia hair would be a bit too on the nose.

And perhaps a bit cynical on my part, a name like George Washington Bush is to initiate a certain emotional response.

New York Times Changes Name To 'The Double Standard'
[Babylon Bee - Satire, Herb] Amid heavy criticism of recent hire Sarah Jeong to the editorial board of The New York Times, the newspaper announced Monday morning it would be changing its name to The Double Standard in order to better reflect the two sets of standards it uses to judge whether or not an offensive statement is racist.

The change took effect this morning, with the name serving as a helpful reminder for the wildly inconsistent benchmarks used to judge people of differing worldviews and races.

"See, we aggressively attack racism in all its forms all day long, but then we went and hired a woman who tweeted extremely racist things about white people," wrote James Bennet, Editorial Page Editor, in a piece for the Standard explaining the name change. "To top it all off, we defended her and said we knew about the tweets going in, excusing her racist comments as simply satire, or just fighting fire with fire or something."

"There was a lot of confusion over that whole thing. So we decided to just come right out and identify our ever-shifting double standard for readers right in the title of our esteemed paper."

The paper will also now include a helpful tag on each article, identifying whether or not the subject of a piece is being held to the set of standards the paper uses for liberals, or the much different set of standards the paper uses for conservatives, religious people, and "really anyone not on board with a far-left agenda."

At publishing time, the newly christened Double Standard had begun considering changing its name to The Quadruple Standard.

'Historic day': PM Imran inaugurates 24/7 border crossing at Torkham
[DAWN] Prime Minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
on Wednesday formally inaugurated the opening of the Torkham border crossing for 24 hours.
That’s an entrance to Afghanistan for those, like me, who are not geography mavens. It connects Afghanistan's Nangarhar province with Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is the busiest crossing along the border, serving as a major transporting, shipping, and receiving site. On the Afghan side the highway goes to Kabul via Jalalabad; on the Pakistani side the highway goes to Peshawar, then connects to Islamabad. Forward Operating Base Torkham (FOB Torkham) hosts an American contingent.
The premier was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi
...a Pak political shape-changer. He is undistinguished except for his habit of periodically needing to have his lips reattached...
and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan as he inaugurated the Integrated Transit Trade Management System. He was also given a briefing on the border terminal.

Addressing a presser on the occasion, Prime Minister Imran said the round-the-clock opening of the border crossing will facilitate trade in the region.

"I consider this to be a very historic day," he said, noting that trade with Afghanistan had jumped by 50 per cent during the trial of the 24/7 border opening alone.

He said the region will be transformed as soon as peace is established in Afghanistan and the trade activities will reach as far as Central Asia.

"The lives of people in this region will be changed," he said, adding that Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
will become a regional hub of business activities which will generate employment opportunities.

[DAWN] Prime Minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer...
on Wednesday, while speaking on the death and suspected sexual assault of three minors in Kasur, made it clear that there would be accountability for all.

government and police following the incident.

"Kasur district police officer (DPO) being removed; SP investigation Kasur surrendered, charge sheeted and being proceeded against."

"DSP and SHO suspended. Major overhaul in Kasur local police on the cards," he continued, adding that a formal probe has been ordered under an additional inspector general.

Chunian police on Tuesday recovered the bodies of three minors, who appeared to have been killed after rape, from sand dunes near Chunian bypass.

A wave of shock and terror gripped Chunian when the police recovered the bodies. Locals suspected a racket was behind the killing of minor boys after rape.

Earlier on Wednesday, protests erupted in Kasur with residents protesting against child abductions and lack of action by police. Protesters blocked roads in Chunian and burned tires while chanting slogans against the police. The demonstrators also surrounded the Chunian cop shoppe as they protested against lack of arrests and incidents of child abduction.

In the last few years, Kasur has been rocked by multiple incidents of abuse, rape and killing of children. In January 2018, six-year-old Zainab Ansari was found dead in a trash heap near Shahbaz Khan Road, five days after she went missing. Hers was the 12th such incident to have occurred within a 10-kilometre radius in Kasur over a 12-month period. Her death had sparked nationwide protests and outrage.

Indian troops launch grenades at Pakistan’s special service group in repulse attack
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Indian Army has shared a video of its action to repulse an attempt by Pakistain’s BAT (Border Action Team) to push purported faceless myrmidons into Indian territory in Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
. Army sources said they foiled over 15 such attempts in the month of August alone.

In the video, Indian troops were seen launching grenades at Pak SSG (Special Service Group) commandos using Under Barrel Grenade Launchers.

The faceoff began after a suicide kaboom on Indian troops in Pulwama in Kashmir on February 14 in which 40 security personnel were killed. It further escalated after the Indian Air Force carried out an aerial strike on an alleged training camp at Balakot, in Pakistain-administered Kashmir.

Tension between the two nuclear-capable South Asian neighbours further worsened following New Delhi’s decision to strip Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. Islamabad, which claims to be a stakeholder in Kashmir, rejected the Indian move and declared a diplomatic offensive against it.

India’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday (15 September) that the Pak Army had committed a total of 2,050 unprovoked ceasefire violations in 2019 in which 21 Indians bit the dust.

"Highlighted our concerns at unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistain, including in support of cross border terrorist infiltration and targeting of Indian civilians and border posts. This year, they resorted to over 2,050 unprovoked ceasefire violations in which 21 Indians died", said the Foreign Ministry.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
‘A Violent, Dangerous Sexual Predator’: Democratic Party Donor Arrested After Third Man Overdoses at His Home
[LAWANDCRIME] A 65-year-old prominent Democratic Party donor was arrested on Tuesday after a third man overdosed at his West Hollywood home but survived. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office alleged in a bail motion that Ed Buck
...Big time Dem donor accused of being a homosexual predator. By the time the third party boy corpse is found OD'd in your house you need a really good lawyer really bad...
is "a violent, dangerous sexual predator" who "mainly preys on men made vulnerable by addiction and homelessness."

According to KABC, prosecutors sought to have Buck’s bail set at a whopping $4 million. To support that, they said that Buck is "a predator with no regard for human life" who gave the victims "dangerously large doses of narcotics."

As Law&Crime reported before, in two prior incidents, 55-year-old Timothy Dean and 26-year-old Gemmel Moore were both found dead of methamphetamine overdoses at Buck’s home. Both of them were black and gay men. So far, authorities have said that the third man who overdosed is 37 years old.

Family members of Dean’s and Moore’s previously claimed that Buck was a predator. Dean’s sister Joyce Jackson said, "I really believe he preyed on people. I think he’s sick. He really needs to get some help"; Moore’s mother, LaTisha Nixon, filed a wrongful death lawsuit that claimed Buck had a "well-documented history of isolating black men for predatory sexual encounters."

In Aug. 2018, Nixon moved to have excerpts from Moore’s journal publicized so Buck would be prosecuted. In a Dec. 2016 entry, Moore wrote that he had "become addicted to drugs and the worst one at that. Ed Buck is the one to thank."

An autopsy report in Dean’s death claimed that Buck waited 15 minutes to call paramedics after the victim died in his apartment. According to the New York Daily News, Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office revealed that an investigator’s narrative said Buck initially told authorities "he attempted CPR for 15 minutes before contacting 911."

Seymour Amster, Buck’s attorney, disputed that timeline, saying Buck was taking a shower in another room when Dean fell unconsciousness at Buck’s Laurel Canyon apartment before dawn on January 7.

"He finds Timothy in a state of being unresponsive in the living room. He doesn’t wait to call 911. He calls, and as he’s on the phone, he’s getting instructions to perform CPR," Amster told the Daily News. Law&Crime earlier reported that Dean’s death was ruled an "accidental" overdose on methamphetamine.

According to that report, Buck told Sherlocks Dean was engaged in "bizarre behavior" just before his death and that he used a piece of clothing to fashion a noose and then placed it around his own neck. "The witness relays that he removed the ’noose’ and the decedent then stood up and began throwing clothes up in the air," the report notes.

A search, however, turned up no such evidence of a noose.

"[N]o items of clothing that appeared to be fashioned like a noose" were observed by Sherlocks on the scene, according to the report. Buck also allegedly told Sherlocks "he did not see the decedent taking any drugs and that they did not have sex."

Amster denied wrongdoing on behalf of his client.

MNAs Ali Wazir, Mohsin Dawar make bail in Kharqamar attack case
[DAWN] Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court's Bannu bench on Wednesday accepted the bail pleas of politicians Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar in the Kharqamar attack case.

Justice Nasir Mehmood, who heard the bail applications of Dawar and Wazir in Bannu, asked the MNAs to report to police once a month.

They will be released after legal formalities are completed. The MNAs have been asked to provide surety bonds worth Rs1 million each.

"The bench has given us conditional bail," said Abdul Latif Afridi, the lawyer representing the MNAs, adding that the Anti-Terrorism Law 21-D allows a judge to impose certain conditions on admission to bail.

"The judge gave a verbal order; we are waiting for the written one," Afridi told Dawn.

The two MNAs, who are leaders of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), were initially charged in an FIR registered at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) cop shoppe, Bannu, on May 26 after a clash between PTM members and Army personnel near the Kharqamar check post in North Wazoo, which had resulted in the deaths of 13 persons and injuries to several others.

Egypt's offshore Baltim South West field starts production
[AlAhram] Egypt’s Baltim South West offshore gas field, discovered by Italian oil giant Eni in 2016, started production, with an estimated initial output of 100 million cubic feet of gas a day, the oil ministry said on Tuesday

Production is expected to rise to 500 million cubic feet of gas by the second quarter of 2020 when an additional five wells go on stream, the ministry said.

The field, located 12 kilometers off Egypt's Mediterranean coast, has a potential capacity of 1 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, while the potential of the area where it is located, the Great Nooros area, is nearly 3 tcf, Eni said in a statement.

Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC, holds a 50 percent stake in the Baltim South lease and BP holds the remaining 50 percent.

The project is operated by Petrobel, a joint venture between Eni and the state-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation.

In 2015, Eni discovered Egypt’s giant offshore Zohr gas field, the largest in the Mediterranean, whose output now stands at 2.7 billion cubic feet of gas daily.

Bigger output helped Egypt become self sufficient in natural gas in late 2018.

Earth to warm more quickly, show new climate models
[DAWN] Greenhouse gases thrust into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels are warming Earth’s surface more quickly than previously understood, according to new climate models set to replace those used in current UN projections, scientists said on Tuesday.

By 2100, average temperatures could rise 6.5 to 7.0 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels if carbon emissions continue unabated, separate models from two leading research centres in La Belle France showed.

That is up to two degrees higher than the equivalent scenario in the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change’s (IPCC) 2014 benchmark fifth Assessment Report.

The new calculations also suggest the Gay Paree Agreement goals of capping global warming at "well below" two degrees, and 1.5C if possible will be harder to reach, the scientists said.

"With our two models, we see that the scenario known as SSP1 2.6 ‐ which normally allows us to stay under 2C ‐ doesn’t quite get us there," said Olivier Boucher, head of the Institute Pierre Simon Laplace Climate Modelling Centre in Gay Paree.

With barely one degree Celsius of warming so far, the world is already coping with increasingly deadly heatwaves, droughts, floods and tropical cyclones made more destructive by rising seas.

A new generation of 30-odd climate models known collectively as CMIP6 ‐ including the two unveiled on Tuesday ‐ will underpin the IPCC’s next major report in 2021.

"CMIP6 clearly includes the latest modelling improvements", even as important uncertainties remain, said Joeri Rogelj, an associate professor at Imperial College London and an IPCC lead author.

Real science doesn't require belief or consensus. As has been said many many many times, CO2 is a /lagging/ indicator of temperature, sort of. CO2 changes after the temperature does. CO2 isn't harmful to the planet. CO2 is very beneficial. CO2 starvation occures at 150 ppm. At that level, ALL plants die. All the plants we current have developed at CO2 levels of 1000+ ppm. All life on earth nearly died during the last ice age when CO2 dropped so low.

India-Pakistan
Police in Punjab told to blacklist officials involved in torture
[DAWN] Regional coppers (RPOs) across Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

have been directed to blacklist all those officials with proven history of inflicting torture on citizens or causing custodial deaths and not to assign them any field duty.

The incidents of police torture and deaths in police custody in recent days have sent shockwaves and anger among the citizens.

The incidents forced the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan to call a meeting recently with the RPOs and conveyed to them that his orders regarding media policy were not read carefully as junior officers were holding pressers and sharing videos of police investigations with the media.

He also acknowledged that incidents of torture or deaths in police custody were a failure of the field command. He said formal and informal visits and inspections of cop shoppes had been abandoned by district heads and there had not been a single meeting held by the central command in which zero tolerance on the incidents of torture and deaths in police custody was discussed.

He also expressed his dismay over ignoring his directives saying it was the task of the field commanders to implement the instructions, policies and directives given by the Central Police Office.

"District coppers have to come out of their luxury offices and watch what is happening in the cop shoppes," the IGP said.

On the other hand, the subordinate staff is taking the district heads as if they do not exist and with each passing day the commanders are becoming irrelevant, said the IGP.

He also suggested that corruption or inefficiency of the coppers must be reflected in their annual confidential reports (ACRs). The IGP directed the RPOs and DPOs to hold interactive meetings with all ranks in small groups and direct them to follow SOPs and sensitise the force on torture/death in jug.

While citing a recent example of torturing a woman by some officials and private people in Vehari, the IGP said it was an example of unprofessional command of the district police officer. A committee comprising local notables, SDPO and the SHO was constituted to investigate a theft of gold case. The committee tortured one of the suspected women.

The irony of the situation was that the SHO, who inflicted torture on the woman, was made the complainant of the case. Later, the RPO had to be sent to Vehari to hold an inquiry.

Two more polio cases reported
[DAWN] The number of polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
cases has reached 64 in the country this year, as another two cases were reported from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.

A 30-month-old girl and a 23-month-old boy have become new victims of the poliovirus. It was revealed that their parents were against the vaccination and dodged polio teams.

With these two additions the total number of polio cases in KP has reached 48 this year.

An official of Polio Virology Laboratory at the National Institute of Health (NIH), requesting anonymity, said that the latest cases were reported from districts Lakki Marwat and Torghar.

"The girl, who is paralysed, hails from Nali Chak, UC Mamakhel, tehsil Serai Naurang, district Lakki Marwat. Date of the onset was Aug 24; however, as incubation time of the virus is around three weeks so finally it is confirmed that the child was paralysed due to poliovirus," he said.

Go Figure - Mechanic who tampered with jetliner has ties to ISIS: feds
[NY Post] The American Airlines mechanic who disabled a key navigation system on a jetliner leaving Miami ‐ saying he did it over a labor dispute ‐ had grisly ISIS propaganda videos on his cellphone, federal prosecutors said in court on Wednesday.
Just culturally appropriate Pron
Prosecutor Maria Medetis said that when investigators grilled the mechanic, Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani, after his arrest on Sept. 5, he told them he had an "evil side" and that he "wanted to do something to delay" the plane, which had 150 people onboard, the Miami Herald reported.

But a co-worker told investigators that Alani had once said his brother was a member of ISIS, and that he traveled to Iraq in March to visit him.
uh huh, and you kept that to yourself?
Prosecutors said authorities also discovered a November 2018 article that had been sent to him about one of the Boeing 737 Max 8 crashes, and that the article described issues with the plane's navigation system.

"What you did was at minimum highly reckless. It was unconscionable," federal Magistrate Judge Chris McAliley told Alani in court Wednesday.

Authorities also said at least one of the ISIS videos was downloaded on Alani's phone and sent to another person with a message that called for Allah to "use all your might and power against the Kafir," or non-believers of Islam.

A native Iraqi who is now a US citizen, Alani, 60 was not charged with a terror-related crime. He was denied bond during the proceeding, where the feds said photos on his phone from a trip to Baghdad and Mosul showed him smiling and posing with relatives.

He was charged with "willfully damaging, destroying or disabling an aircraft." His arraignment is Friday, and he faces up to 20 years in prison on the sabotage charge.

Alani initially said that he sabotaged the Boeing 737 at Miami International Airport because labor negotiations were hurting his chances to snare overtime.
"As a terrorist, I am entitled to time and a half! Infidels!"
A criminal complaint said Alani admitted to sabotaging the airplane July 17 as it was scheduled to fly from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas.
ABC Local 10 adds:
Prosecutors said he worked four hours of overtime that day.

A co-worker also told government officials that Alani had once said his brother was a member of ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
and that he traveled to Iraq in March to visit him. Alani's roommate, however, told authorities the trip was not to visit his brother, but had been because his brother had been kidnapped, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said photos on his phone from his trip to Baghdad and djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
show him smiling and posing with relatives and said he did not appear to be in distress in any of the images.

Security Council Renews UN Afghan Mission
[ToloNews] New mandate for UNAMA adds provision for peace talks, drops Belt and Road.

The Security Council on Tuesday decided unanimously to extend, until September 17, 2020, the mandate of the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

Support for the Afghan government in pursuing peace talks, as requested by the Afghan delegation, was included as a last-minute provision.

Christoph Heusgen (Germany), introduced the amendment, explaining that the delegation of Afghanistan requested that the text be amended to read: "Provide outreach as well as good offices to support the Afghan-led and Afghan‑owned grinding of the peace processor, if requested by and in close consultation with the Government of Afghanistan". Heusgen stated that this addition is "extremely important" for Afghanistan.

China’s Belt and Road Project, to increase trade and transportation infrastructure for Afghanistan and regional neighbors, was not mentioned in the new resolution, as it has been in the past.

"To our regret a few countries refused to keep the text of consensus previously agreed," said China’s UN Ambassador Zhang Jun.

US Ambassador to the U.N. Kelly Craft said that the new resolution reflects changes on the ground, but added: "The reason we cannot empower the mission with a stronger, substantive mandate today is a member’s insistence on language that highlights national political priorities rather than ways in which we can most effectively assist the people and the government of Afghanistan."

The mission is tasked to support the Afghan electoral process, and more broadly to strengthen the capacity of the government and Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, as well as civil society. It will also support education, human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
and women’s full participation in decision-making, including in the peace talks.

John Hopkins Psychiatrist: ‘Gender Confusions Are Mostly Driven by Psychological and Psychosocial Problems’
[CNSNEWS] Dr. Paul R. McHugh, the Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University and former psychiatrist‐in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital, who has studied transgendered people for 40 years, believes that patients suffering gender dysphoria need psychological care ‐ not gender reassignment treatment.

"I think their mental problems, often depression, discouragement are the things that need treatment," Dr. McHugh, who has argued that it is a scientific fact that "transgendered men do not become women, nor do transgendered women become men," told The College Fix in an interview published Tuesday.
