Venezuela's ruling party wins majority of regional elections
Venezuela's National Electoral Council says candidates for the ruling socialist party have won a majority of the 23 governors' offices up for grabs in Sunday's regional elections. Opposition leaders are disputing the vote count.

Pro-government electoral council president Tibisay Lucena says opposition candidates won just five of 22 races where the results are considered unreal irreversible.

Projections by independent pollsters had predicted the opposition would win a majority of the governorships for the first time in nearly 20 years of socialist rule

'Land means life': Tanzania's Maasai fear their existence is under threat
BLUF:
[Guardian] In Tanzania, all land belongs to the state, so evictions are not illegal if force is used, said Looloitai. However, she urged the government to find a peaceful solution: "The president has been given the power to oversee and control the use of the land, but without infringing human rights."

Looloitai, who is from Monduli district, a neighbouring district to Ngorongoro, where Loliondo lies, said: "Land to me is life. It is a fundamental resource that keeps pastoralists living their traditional way of life."

When claims emerged in 2012 that the Tanzanian government wanted to force Maasai pastoralists off their land to make way for game hunting.....

Once again, simply follow the money.

Iraq
The "War after ISIS" begins in Iraq
[ISW] Key Takeaway: A battle is underway between the Iraqi Government, backed by Iran, and Iraqi Kurds for control of Kirkuk, Iraq. Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), Counterterrorism Services (CTS), Federal Police, and Iranian-backed popular mobilization forces (PMF) launched a combined offensive with intent to seize the K1 military base, the Kirkuk airport, and Kirkuk’s oilfields from Kurdish Peshmerga forces at 2:00 a.m. on October 15th. The offensive follows two days of failed negotiations after the government of Iraq (GOI), backed by Iran, demanded Kurdish forces withdraw. US efforts to de-escalate failed. Iran’s role in the offensive further strengthens its influence within Iraq, sidelines the U.S., and will increase Arab Shiite popular support for Iranian-backed candidates in Iraq’s upcoming elections, currently scheduled for April 2018. Iran’s use of an Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) against U.S. forces in Salah al Din Province, southwest of Kirkuk, on October 1 likely signals Iran’s resolve to use force to deter the U.S. from taking a direct military role. ISW is monitoring the situation and will provide regular updates.

What happened: Elements from a combined force of Iraqi Security Forces (ISF), Counterterrorism Services (CTS), Federal Police, and Iranian-backed popular mobilization forces (PMF) south of Kirkuk City launched a probing attack against Peshmerga forces southwest of Kirkuk at 2:00 a.m. on October 15th. The Iranian-backed units include the Badr Organization’s Turkmen Brigade (the 16th PMU brigade) and three brigades from Asai’b Ahl al-Haq (the 41st, 42nd and 43rd PMU brigades). Clashes are ongoing in the industrial zone southwest of Kirkuk City at the time of writing.

Context: The Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) and the government of Iraq (GoI) have been in a standoff after the KRG held a referendum on September 25, 2017 to affirm its right to declare independence. The governments of Iraq, Iran, and Turkey have strongly opposed the Kurdish referendum and took action to compel the KRG to stop short of declaring independence. The Iraqi Supreme Court declared the referendum illegal on September 18th, pending legal review. The Iraqi government and Iran both prohibited flights to Kurdistan. Iraq held military exercises with Iran along the latter’s border with Iraqi Kurdistan on October 1 and conducted symbolic military exercises with Turkey on September 26 in order to demonstrate solidarity against the referendum. Iraq’s Council of Representatives (CoR) voted on September 27 to authorize Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi to retake Kirkuk and its oil fields, prompting a Kurdish boycott of the CoR.

#10  The US, and the West in general, have zero national interest in Iraq. We should stay out of it, until and unless their government develops an interest in weapons of mass destruction and/or threatens other allies and peaceful countries, such as Israel.

The Kurds do seem more reasonable and aligned with some Western values, but we don't really know -- note that they're basically led by communists in Turkey. One could make a case for selling them weapons to push Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Iraq to their heels.

The West has three interests in the Middle East: help Israel defend itself, the only free country there (give undiluted moral support, sell weapons, free trade); crush Iran; demand that the Saudis to dis-own the Wahhabis, or else cut them off. For all other groups or states in that region, including Northern Africa: cut off all relationships, or crush them if they suggest or support any attack on the West.

Other than that we have no rational interest in that part of the world; let it fall back to poverty, depravity, and barbarism until they figure out better and start to use reason instead of force.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Clinton Foundation to keep Harvey Weinstein's $250,000 donation
[FoxNews] The Clinton Foundation will not return as much as $250,000 in donations from disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein following the accusations of sexual harassment and rape.

The foundation said Sunday that donations, ranging from $100,000 to $250,000, have already been spent on projects, The Daily Mail reported.

The move to keep the money was expected following tweets from the foundation's spokesman Craig Minassian.

"Suggesting @ClintonFdn return funds from our 330,000+ donors ignores the fact that donations have been used to help people across the world," Minassian wrote on Twitter.

‐ Craig Minassian (@MinassianMedia) October 14, 2017

The calls to return Weinstein's money were prompted after multiple actresses have come forward and accused the Hollywood executive of sexual assault and rape, forcing numerous politicians and organization to grapple with the dilemma.

Dozens Democratic Party politicians – including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. Sen. Al Franken, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Cory Booker – have pledged to donate their Weinstein's contributions to charities focused on women's rights.

Hillary Clinton echoed her former colleagues, saying she was "shocked and appalled" after the sexual harassment allegations were revealed about Weinstein, who hosted fundraisers for her in the past and donated more than $46,000 to her recent presidential campaign and other election efforts.

"What other people are saying, what my former colleagues are saying, is they're going to donate it to charity, and of course I will do that," she said on CNN. "I give 10% of my income to charity every year, this will be part of that. There's no – there's no doubt about it."
Seems Clinton is keeping her promise to "donate" the money to "charity".

Former CIA deputy director slams Trump's Iran decision
[CETUS] A former deputy director of the CIA has criticised Donald Trump’s decision not to re-certify the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers. John McLaughlin said it was one of the President's "worst decisions" and would "shred" America's credibility. "Iran speech - one of Trump's worst decisions: feeds Iran hardliners, splits allies, shreds US credibility, roils congress, gift to Russia," he wrote on Twitter. "Trump could combat Iran's testing of missiles etc without touching nuclear deal," he continued.

"But needs POTUS [President of the United States] discipline, hard work so far lacking."

The Obama-era deal lifted crippling international sanctions on Iran in exchange for Iran’s agreement to restrict its nuclear programme for at least 10 years.

In a speech on Friday, Mr Trump said removing sanctions had given the "fanatical regime" in Iran a financial boost, increasing its ability to fund terrorism. He accused Iran of spreading "death, destruction and chaos around the globe".

Israeli air force destroys Syrian anti-aircraft battery in retaliatory strike
The Israeli Air Force attacked and destroyed a Syrian SA-5 anti-aircraft battery east of Damascus Monday morning after it fired a surface-to-air missile at Israeli jets.

The SA-5 missile battery, which was stationed some 50 kilometers east of the Syrian capital, fired at Israeli jets that were on a routine aerial reconnaissance flight in Lebanese airspace, IDF Spokesman Brig.Gen. Ronen Manelis stated.

Man charged with spray-painting swastika at UMD is African American
h/t Instapundit
Court records show the man accused of spray-painting a swastika inside a residence hall at the University of Maryland in September is African American.

Students were surprised to learn someone who is a member of a race which has been historically oppressed is accused of the hate-related incident.

"I guess it proves that you don't have to be a certain race to hate people, but I mean, it's just you would think that someone, especially from a race that has been subjected to hate before, you would think why would you want to reciprocate that to somebody else," said student Abby Gorun.

University of Maryland police say 52-year-old Ronald Alford Sr. was served a criminal summons on Thursday and faces several charges including destruction of property and disturbing the operations of a school. Alford will not be allowed back on campus.

Europe
Europe Looking the Other Way
[American Thinker] They talk a lot about global warming in Europe and Canada. We do our share of talking here, too.

Where is the talk about the real threat facing Europe, or the West as a whole, for that matter?

Where are the marches calling on Europeans to get married and have at least two little babies? A march for marriage and babies may sound a bit silly but Europe could use one badly.

Like a dead body of water, Europe is drying out in front of our eyes. At current birth rates, there won't be any Europeans around to determine if the global warming predictions were a hoax or real!

Read this:
"Europe needs more babies -- the average continental family has a mere 1.37 children...Germany is similarly concerned -- it could lose the equivalent of the population of the former East Germany within 50 years... Russia’s population is contracting at the rate of three quarters of a million a year: the resourceful Mr Putin is paying mothers to have a second child.... The last thing we should be doing is bullying people to breed less." ("The cry should go up in Europe: more babies, please" by Melanie McDonaghon)

Furthermore, you can not preserve your values, culture and democratic ideas if you do not "seed the future" with your own people.

We inherited progressive values from our parents and ancestors who gave us life. Don't we have a responsibility to bring life into the world and preserve our culture?

Furthermore, at current birth rates, Europe can't finance its massive welfare state! Who is going to care for the old if there are no young people to work, pay taxes and defend a way of life?
They've been trying for a generation to pay their women to have more babies -- it hasn't worked. That's why Frau Merkel welcomed "Syria's" ambitious with open arms. Unfortunately, it was not just the ambitious who swarmed in.

German Towns Filled With Refugees Ask, ‘Who Is Integrating Whom?’

Earlier influx of foreigners feeds concerns about budget, safety, jobs and the quality of education

Andrea ThomasUpdated Oct. 15, 2017 2:11 p.m. ET
SALZGITTER, Germany—Late this summer, Nadine Langer took her six-year old to her first day at school. The girl was one of two German children in her class, she said, amid 20, mostly Syrian, refugees.

Germany’s 2015 refugee crisis has largely disappeared from the headlines. But in this and other midsize towns, it is continuing to unfold, putting communities under stress, pressuring local coffers and feeding concerns about safety, jobs and the quality of education.

Some 140,000 asylum seekers have entered Germany so far this year—a sharp drop from the 1.2 million who arrived in the past two years. But in places such as Salzgitter there is a sense that the government, having housed and fed the newcomers, is failing in the longer-term effort to integrate them in German society.

This unease, pollsters say, boosted the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany at last month’s election, making it the first far-right party to enter parliament in half a century. This shock means immigration will loom large when Chancellor Angela Merkel kicks off negotiations on Wednesday to form a three-party ruling coalition.

Immigration has also returned to regional politics. In Lower Saxony, where Salzgitter is located and which elected its parliament on Sunday, integration and schools have been central in the campaign. Conservatives for years have said that refugees, a majority of whom settle permanently in the country, must learn German values, a concept known as Leitkultur.

Many here say they are proud of their town’s tradition as a refugee haven. But as their numbers rose sharply last year Salzgitter took the unusual step of requesting a moratorium on new arrivals.

“The established parties lived in a bubble. They said everything was fine, closed their eyes to reality and didn’t see people’s concern,” said Salzgitter’s mayor Frank Klingebiel.

Mr. Klingebiel hails from the conservative Christian Democratic Union. But his concerns transcend political lines. It was Stephan Weil, the left-leaning state premier who sought re-election on Sunday, who greenlighted the ban on further refugees moving to Salzgitter, which took effect this past week.

Iraq
Is A War Brewing Between Iraqi Kurdistan And Iran?
[Red State] While we often refer to "the Kurds" there is really no such thing. The Kurds, in the best tradition of that area of the world, are divided into competing, and sometimes hostile, factions. This is a brief overview:

Two weeks ago, the KRG/KDP conducted a referendum on independence from Iraq. Even though everyone and their brother opposed the referendum, according to the KDP head, Masoud Barzani, independence won.

As an aside, the KDP is sort of hostile to the Kurds who make up the US-allied Syrian Democratic Forces who are fighting ISIS in Syria.

The Iraqi Kurds were not supposed to seek independence as Baghdad and Tehran thought there was a deal for regional autonomy. In retaliation, Baghdad cut off air travel to Kurdistan. But the Kurds have not moved decisively towards independence and many observers think the referendum was a bargaining chip to wring concessions out of a hard-pressed Iraqi government.

Now a string of tweets to paint the rest of the picture:

#2  Kurds should invite other Kurds from surrounding nations to enter Kurdistan. They could use the extra manpower and it might get Iran and Turkey to loosen up if they felt they weren't going to lose chunks of their own nations to Kurdistan.

The Kurds can play the old once mine always mine Islamic game later when they are solid and their neighbors are not.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Former DEA agent: Congress, drug industry hindered opioid crackdown
[The Hill] A former employee of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said in a new interview on Sunday that efforts to stem the growing opioid epidemic in the U.S. were derailed by pressure from large pharmaceutical companies and Congress.

Joe Rannazzisi told CBS’s "60 Minutes" that major distributors, including Cardinal Health, McKesson and AmerisourceBergen, allowed drugs to be obtained by rogue pharmacies and pain clinics, which then prescribed them to Americans "who had no legitimate need for those drugs."

As the opioid epidemic grew steadily worse, Rannazzisi, who at the time was the head of the DEA’s Office of Diversion Control, said he helped launch a crackdown on the companies, which included slapping heavy fines on them.

But Rannazzisi said the drug industry used money and influence to pressure lawyers at the Department of Justice, which oversees the DEA, to go easy on the companies.

The former DEA agent said superiors called him to have him explain his tactics. "And it infuriated me that I was over there, trying to explain what my motives were or why I was going after these corporations?" Rannazzisi said in the interview.

Police said the Shomron military court in the northern West Bank was closed following the arrest and that a police sapper was dispatched "to neutralize" the apparent bomb.

Police said the suspect was a 17-year-old Paleostinian from the West Bank city of Jenin.

The incident came after security forces arrested 15 Paleostinians in the West Bank overnight.

Troops used crowd control munitions in the Deheishe refugee camp, south of Bethlehem, where an army operation sparked violent disturbances, the military said.

The army said one rioter was injured in the leg and that the suspects were being questioned.

Undocumented foreigners who commit crimes will be deported: France's Macron
[AlAhram] French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday that any undocumented foreigner who commits a crime will be deported, two weeks after a Tunisian man stabbed two women to death in southern Marseille.

"We will take the most severe measures, we will do what we must do," Macron said in a televised interview.
What, immediately the miscreants are picked up, without even a proper trial? Or does he mean to add to the already overburdened police and courts, who can't keep up with the cases they're already ignoring because there are so many of them? Still, the sentiment shows he understands the meaning of Austria's election results, so different than his own a mere few months ago.

Rocket launched from Sinai lands in Eshkol Regional Council
Congrats, guys, you hit the country you were aiming for.
[Ynet] Residents near Gazoo region report hearing booms after alert sounded; IDF detects two rocket launches from the Sinai Peninsula; one rocket landed on open land, no casualties; IDF continuing to scour area.

The IDF identified two rocket launches from the Sinai Peninsula on Sunday evening after a Code Red alert was sounded in the Eshkol Regional Council near Gazoo.

One of the rockets went kaboom! on open, uninhabited land and was located following the IDF's searches of the area. No casualties were reported. Earlier, residents in the region reported hearing booms after the sirens.

"I hope this isn't the start of a new trend. The IDF needs to stop launches like this even when they originate in Sinai. We won't consent to a return to getting fired on every other week," said head of the Eshkol Regional Council Gadi Yarkoni in response to the rockets launched at his council.

Last week, the IDF destroyed a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", observation post in retaliation for a rocket launched from the Gazoo Strip earlier in the evening.

Death Eaters attacked six checkpoints in the turbulent north of the Sinai Peninsula, killing six soldiers and wounding 37, according to security and hospital officials.

Austrian 'whizz-kid' in election triumph
[YAHOO] Austria's political "whizz-kid" Sebastian Kurz was on course Sunday to become Europe's youngest leader, potentially in coalition with the far-right after its best result in almost 20 years.

Kurz's conservative People's Party (OeVP) won 31.7 percent of the vote, followed by Chancellor Christian Kern's Social Democrats (SPOe) on 26.9 percent, projections that were broadly in line with preliminary results showed.

Close behind was the nationalist Freedom Party (FPOe) on 26.0 percent, twice that of their allies the Alternative for Germany (AfD) last month and close to its all-time record of 26.8 percent in 1999 under then-leader Joerg Haider.

Kurz, 31, nicknamed "wunderwuzzi" ("whizz-kid"), took over the OeVP in May and managed to attract supporters in droves by depicting himself as a breath of fresh air, talking tough on immigration and vowing to slash taxes and red tape.

This has caused some to suggest he's being blackballed for his national anthem protests during the 2016 season.

Kaepernick appeared in 12 games for 49ers in 2016, throwing for 2,241 yards with 16 touchdowns to four interceptions.

His 90.7 passer rating ranked 17th in the league, ahead of 10 quarterbacks who were starters going into the 2017 season.

#1  Pro QB's should have at least 3 characteristics: arm strength, good decision making, and accuracy. The ash heap of the NFL is filled with 4.6 second guys who can throw the ball 70 yard.

After 2 years in the league they figure him out and forced him to make good decisions (go through your progression) and throw the ball with accuracy. He could do neither.

And by the way, Colin, most of those disenfranchised young black men whose father abandoned you, like your father did you are not as fortunate as you. And that's why they are (by and large) cross-ways with the police.

Death toll from blasts in Somalia's capital Mogadishu tops 200
[REUTERS] More than 200 people were killed by twin kabooms that struck busy junctions in the heart of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, officials said on Sunday, marking the deadliest attacks since an Islamist insurgency began in 2007.

President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmaajo declared three days of national mourning and called for donations of blood and funds to victims of Saturday’s attack. At least 100 others were maimed.

"Today’s horrific attack proves our enemy would stop nothing to cause our people pain and suffering. Let’s unite against terror," he tweeted.

Police said a truck bomb went kaboom! outside a hotel in the K5 intersection that is lined with government offices, restaurants and kiosks, flattening several buildings and setting dozens of vehicles on fire.

Two hours later, another blast struck the capital’s Medina district.

"We have confirmed 200 civilians died in yesterday’s blast. We understand the corpse count is higher than that. Many people are still missing their relatives," Abdifatah Omar Halane, the front man for Mogadishu’s mayor, told Rooters.

A front man for Aamin Ambulance service said it knew of more than 250 people maimed during the bombings on Saturday.

"Some people who searched for their relatives just found unrecognizable body parts," its director Abdikadir Abdirahman told Rooters.

"In our 10 year experience as the first responder in #Mogadishu, we haven’t seen anything like this," tweeted the ambulance service, which is reliant on private donations and the only free ambulance service in the city.

"We’re mourning the loss of 5 Somali Red Islamic Thingy volunteers, also killed in this attack," tweeted the International Committee of the Red Thingy.

Whataburger worker fired for refusing to serve police officers
[FOXNEWS] A worker at a Texas fast-food restaurant was fired after she refused to serve two coppers, the company said Saturday.

In a lengthy post on the Denison Police Department's Facebook page, Chief Jay Burch alleged the officers were cursed at by the employee and that the restaurant manager’s only response was "I don’t get into politics."

"If a business does not want coppers as customers, just let us know," Burch wrote. "There’s no need to curse us and make a scene, just let us know you don’t want us there and we’ll go somewhere else."

He added, "Now going somewhere else in Denison in the middle of the night is not easy because our officers don’t have many options. What really gets my goat with such an incident is that while most of us are sleeping ‐ sleeping!, the officers are out there working hard to keep us safe and when trying to take a break to eat ‐ they face this type of reception from an employee of a local business and management calls it 'politics'?"

Burch never named the restaurant, but local media outlets identified the restaurant as Whataburger, a popular Texas-based chain.

In a statement, a Whataburger spokesperson said "an individual employee acted out of line with Whataburger's values to treat all customers with respect. We took swift action and this person is no longer employed by us."

Denison Sgt. Holly Jenkins said on Facebook that the employee was unapologetic, expressed her hatred toward police and said she would continue to refuse service to coppers.

“It was a ‘routine’ arrest,” Burch said. “There was no physical altercation and no one injured. So the employee was simply lying about her boyfriend getting ‘beat up’ by police.

Zimbabwe: Mugabe Readies for Grace Takeover, Oks Extra-Ordinary Congress
[All Africa] President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
has agreed to turn the Zanu PF annual conference set for December into an extra-ordinary congress setting the stage for what could be the final nail into Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa's coffin and the elevation of his wife Grace into the ruling party presidium.

Zanu PF national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere reportedly introduced the issue of an extra ordinary congress while presenting his report to the party's politburo on Wednesday but it turned out the G40 kingpin had only consulted three provinces.

"Mugabe said it would be un-procedural and ordered the commissariat to make sure all provinces are consulted. There will be provincial coordinating committee meetings to consider the issue beginning this weekend.

"The extra-ordinary congress is set to consider changes to the constitution to bring back the provision for a woman deputy president or introduce a third vice president," an insider privy to the issue said.

"The issue of the president is fait accompli but the internal succession wrangling and he (Mugabe)'s age have forced the leadership to consider several options. Remember Grace wants power and has been demanding that she be made vice president in Mnangagwa's steady".

(IS, aka ISIS) group and declared it an enemy organization. They have never explained why. Of course, IS’s atrocities ‐ which include beheadings, crucifixions, suicide kabooms, and intimidation of civilians in captured territories ‐ have been condemned by many. It is also a fact that IS has killed many more Moslems than non-Moslems. But is IS to be faulted for bad tactics or is its goal to create an Islamic state in Pakistain itself wrong? Should attempts to make a global caliphate be condemned or, instead, assisted?

Our generals and politicians would rather bomb IS than argue logically against it because they know IS’s stated goal resonates with millions of ordinary Paks. Through its internet machinery, IS declares it will establish God’s principality (mumlikat-e-khudadad) headed by a righteous caliph who would govern by God’s law. For this to happen territory must be seized and secured, idolatry and heresy eliminated, and the immoral mixing of men and women stopped. This is sweet music to many Pak ears.

Injured, abandoned NPA rebel seized by soldiers
[Inquirer] An injured communist militant was captured by Philippine troops after his comrades left him behind following a clash in Makilala, North Cotabato, on Saturday morning.

Military spokesman Silver Belvis said Randy Indo of Barangay Sibulan, Santa. Cruz, Davao del Sur, was turned over by residents to soldiers. Troops recovered an M-16 assault rifle and four improvised landmines after the encounter with New People’s Army militants in Barangay Batasan.

According to Belvis, residents of Barangay Batasan reported the presence of armed men in their community. Soldiers were sent to verify the report but were met by gunfire from rebels of the NPA Guerilla Front 51, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee under Commander Makoy.

A brief clash broke out which prompted the militants to flee into the forest. That afternoon, soldiers found Indo in the company of residents who turned him over to soldiers, who brought him to the hospital.

Packers: Rodgers could miss rest of season with collarbone
[YAHOO] Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers could miss the remainder of the season with a broken collarbone.

Rodgers left the game against Minnesota in the first quarter on Sunday, and the Packers announced at halftime that his season is in jeopardy after the injury was diagnosed.

"There is a chance he could miss the remainder of the season," the Packers tweeted.

It's a crushing blow to a team that entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations, optimism based primarily on the right arm of Rodgers.

Despite several key injuries to the secondary, the Packers entered the game Sunday against their NFC North rivals at 4-1 after Rodgers engineered a game-winning touchdown drive to beat the Dallas Cowboys last week.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer's defense has always gotten after Rodgers in these tense matchups, and it happened again in the first quarter when linebacker Anthony Barr drove him into the turf after he got rid of a roll-out pass.

Taliban deny former hostage's claims that they murdered infant and raped wife
[BI-Rooters] A Taliban spokesman denied on Sunday accusations by a Canadian man that one of his children had been murdered and his wife raped while they were being held captive by militants who kidnapped them in Afghanistan in 2012.

Joshua Boyle and his American wife, Caitlan Coleman, were held by the Haqqani network, a semi-independent wing of the Afghan Taliban, before being rescued by Pakistani troops in northwest Pakistan, near the Afghan border, last week.

Boyle told reporters soon after he, his wife and their three children returned to Canada on Friday that their captors had murdered a fourth child and raped his wife.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid rejected that as propaganda by the Western governments that helped rescue the family. Mujahid said the couple was intentionally never separated in order to protect their safety. He also denied that their child had been murdered, but acknowledged that one child became sick and died.

The U.S. government calls the Haqqani network "the most lethal and sophisticated insurgent group" in Afghanistan. Its operational chief, Sirajuddin Haqqani, was named deputy to the Taliban's newly appointed leader Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour in 2015, cementing the ties between the groups.

Pelosi to Dem Critics: ‘Self-Promotion Is a Terrible Thing, but Clearly Somebody Has to Do It’
[FREEBEACON] House Minority Leader Nancy San Fran Nan Pelosi
Congresswoman-for-Life from the San Francisco Bay Area, born into a family of professional politicians. Formerly Speaker of the House, but it's not her fault they lost. Really. Noted for her heavily botoxed grimace...
(D., Calif.) continues to face criticism from within the Democratic Party, and Sunday she gave herself a little bit of self-promotion.

Rep. Linda Sanchez (D., Calif.) has been a vocal critic of Pelosi and last week said it is "time to pass the torch" in Democratic Party leadership. Pelosi told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that she has promoted "a great array of talent" in the party and said she still accomplishes a lot in the House of Representatives.

"I think I’m a great politician, I know the budget," Pelosi said. "Self-promotion is a terrible thing but clearly somebody has to do it."

Seven San Francisco 49ers take knee for national anthem as protests lose their mojo
[WASHINGTONTIMES] You know the NFL take-a-knee protests have lost their oomph when even the the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
49ers can only muster seven kneelers.

The San Francisco team has led the league in protesters ‐ by a lot ‐ in the last two weeks, with 30 players refusing to stand for the national anthem on Oct. 1 and then 23 on Oct. 8, which prompted Vice President Mike Pence to walk out of the game.

At Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins, however, just seven players, all 49ers, took a knee on the sideline, while the rest stood.

Last week in Indianapolis, 20 players on the Niners knelt during the anthem, prompting a walk-out from Vice President Mike Pence.

Fox Sports, which carried the game at FedEx Field on Sunday, did not broadcast the national anthem ceremony.

The protests peaked in Week 3 after President Trump suggested at a Sept. 22 rally that team owners should fire any "son of a bitch" who refuses to stand.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan police stop 'Kabul truck bomber'
Police in the Afghan capital Kabul say they have arrested a would-be suicide truck bomber, averting a major attack on the city.

The truck was carrying nearly three tonnes of explosives and two bombs which had been hidden under boxes of tomatoes, a senior official said.

When police acting on a tip-off tried to stop the driver at a checkpoint, he drove on and was shot and injured.

The police officers' timely action on Saturday, a police official said, had saved the city from a great tragedy.

Thirty yellow and orange plastic containers filled with explosive material and two bombs each weighing 100kg (220lb) were found in the truck, AFP news agency reports, quoting the interior ministry. A Western security source told the agency that each container contained ammonium nitrate, which is also used to make fertiliser.

No group claimed that attack but the US-backed Afghan government accused a Taliban affiliate, the Haqqani group.

A truck bomb killed more than 150 people in Kabul in May.

A Foreign Ministry statement carried on state media said the entry of Ottoman Turkish forces in Idlib "was a violation of international law and was not tied with the understandings that were reached between the guarantor states in the Astana process," referring to Russia, Turkey and Iran.

The Syrian statement was made "to save the government's face" in the eyes of the public there, Kani Torun, a senior MP and the deputy chair of the Ottoman Turkish parliament's foreign affairs committee, said.

"At the end of the day, foreign troops have entered the Syrian land and this has to be explained to the Syrian public in one way or another."

Kenya: Six Die in School Attack Bloodbath By Expelled Student
No academic scholarship for him.
[All Africa] An angry student on Saturday rubbed out six of his colleagues and a security guard in Turkana in a deadly Dire Revenge mission that lasted three hours after he was expelled from school due to indiscipline.

Abraham Lochor, said to be from South Sudan, sprayed bullets on fellow students at Lokichoggio Mixed Secondary School at 4am as they were sleeping, killing five of them on the spot and injuring another 18. Another student died later while being treated at a hospital in Lodwar.

The attacker, who led another four gunnies, had first rubbed out the school's guard, a Kenya police reservist who tried to repulse him and his accomplices, before they entered the classrooms where the boys were sleeping.

In a deadly turn, angry residents pulled Lochor out of a cop shoppe at Kakuma refugee camp and lynched him last evening.

The attack is said to have happened between 1am and 4am, but students who spoke to the Sunday Nation said the police arrived at the school at around 5am.

The boys slept in classrooms as there is no dormitory in the school for them. The attackers were said to have moved from one classroom to another picking those who were not in good terms with Lochor and shooting them on the spot.

In a cubicle where the girls slept, two were raped and shot. One of the girls succumbed to gunshot injuries in hospital.

The classrooms were on Saturday splattered with blood, evidence of the painful struggle the students who were shot underwent in the hands of the murderous gang.

PA funds seized as restitution for Israel’s moles
[Ynet] Paleostinians who collaborated with Israel before being detained, tortured by PA sue to receive restitution for damages; after receiving verdict in their favor, plaintiffs contact Execution Office to seize PA funds held by finance minister in order to receive money.

Israel's Execution Office presented the Ministry of Finance with a foreclosure order on NIS 500,000 in Paleostinian Authority (PA) funds, to be received as court-mandated reparations for collaborators with Israel who were caught and tortured by the PA's security forces.

The Execution Office is tasked with ensuring a debtor who received a favorable judgment receives their due recompense, and to that end is entitled to seize property or funds owned by the defendant.

The affair began several months ago, when the Jerusalem District Court ordered the PA to pay half a million shekels in restitution to 50 collaborators with Israel who were captured and tortured during their interrogation.

The plaintiffs, who never received the money they were owed, decided to contact Israel's Execution Office to stop Israel's regular transfer of funds to the PA. Execution consented to the request made by attorney Aryeh Arbos, who represents some of the plaintiffs, and provided the foreclosure order, a move considered highly irregular.

The damages derived from a verdict the Jerusalem District Court decided on four months ago, in which the PA was said to be responsible for the illegal detention, torture and even murder of collaborators with Israel starting in the 90s.

The verdict went on to describe the brutal methods of torture exacted upon the collaborators by the PA, adding that in some cases the PA even went so far as to kidnap collaborators from Israel after they had escaped and return them to areas under its control for further torture.

In many of the cases, the torture and detentions did not cease until IDF forces intervened to free the collaborators during Operation Protective Edge in 2014.

After banding together, the aggrieved collaborators petitioned the High Court of Justice, and were eventually award half a million shekels in restitution.

"We're pleased with the foreclosure order for NIS 500,000 in Paleostinian Authority funds held by Israel," said the law office of Rom-Arbos-Kedem-Tzur, representing the claimants.

"It's the government's sworn duty to honor a court of law's verdicts and, moreover, the State of Israel's deep commitment to assist those who have paid with their well-being‐and sometimes with their lives‐in order to save its sons and daughters from terrorism, death and bereavement," the law office's statement concluded.

US launches $10 million water project in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] The US government launches a $10 million project to improve access to wastewater treatment and water for Paleostinian farmers in the Jericho area of the West Bank.

A top aide to US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, Jason Greenblatt, was among officials launching the project in the historic city near the Dead Sea. Greenblatt has been among Trump’s aides seeking to restart Israeli-Paleostinian negotiations. US officials have spoken of improving the Paleostinian economy and infrastructure as part of their efforts.

At Sunday’s event, Greenblatt did not comment on White House peace efforts, which have been met with heavy skepticism from many analysts. He also did not speak about a unity deal signed last week between Paleostinian rival factions Fatah and Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, aimed at ending their decade-long division.

The project announced Sunday aims to increase the number of homes connected to the Jericho area’s wastewater treatment plant previously built with Japanese assistance by about 10,000 residents. That would leave some 70 percent of Jericho residents connected, according to the US consulate in Jerusalem.

Recycled wastewater would then be available to Paleostinian date farmers in the area, it says.

"The US administration and President Trump personally remain committed to a just and lasting peace between Paleostinians and Israelis, and a central element of that peace is a thriving economy and real opportunities for Paleostinians throughout the West Bank and Gazoo," US Consul General Donald Blome says.

Sounds silly until one realizes the project will involve trenching from each house to the street, then down the street to larger trenches. I can't think of a public works project better suited to discovering connecting tunnels.

De Niro Screams ‘F*ck You Trump' At Fundraiser As Waitress Tells ‘Sick Dirty Thing' He Did
The world isn't working as anticipated, so the poor man must vent before his brains boil in his skull.
[MadWorldNews] Well, Bobby De Niro has a lot of explaining to do. De Niro owns several swanky restaurants, one of which is called the Tribeca Grill. Jade Bukowski worked for De Niro at Tribeca Grill from July 2016 to January 2017, and she has now revealed that it was De Niro who was acting as a pimp, providing Harvey Weinstein after-hours access to the Tribeca Grill.

Weinstein used the Tribeca Grill as the place where he would lure young actresses looking to make it big in Hollywood, and once there, he would force them to do sex acts. Of course, De Niro knew, and sometimes he was even present. In an exclusive piece for the New York Post, Jade Bukowski wrote, "The ritual for his rendezvous was very firm. Champagne, caviar, and an unspoken rule [from De Niro] that Weinstein and his date not be disturbed. The pair would sit close, whispering and touching each other suggestively. After dining, Weinstein and the woman would often disappear for a while, exiting the restaurant through a side door."

Harvey would whisper for a while and then if the aspiring actress would willingly submit, he would take. Or if she was less willingly, various degrees of force, including verbal extortion ('you won't get a job in this town unless...').

of course Harvey wanted sex with grown women. Others in Hollywood were pedophiles - the latter is what I'm waiting to see be exposed.

Iraq
Iraqi forces 'launch major Kirkuk operation'
[Al Jazeera] Iraqi security forces have launched a "major operation" in Kirkuk to take control of a strategic Kurdish military base and oil fields, according Kurdish and Iraqi officials.

The aim of the advance early on Monday was taking control of the K1 airbase, west of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
Lieutenant Colonel Salah el-Kinani, of the Iraqi army's 9th armoured division, told Rooters news agency.

The Kurdistan Region Security Council said that Iraqi forces and members of the Popular Mobilisation Force (PMF) - paramilitary units largely made up of Iran-trained Shia militias - were advancing from Taza, south of Kirkuk, in a "major operation".

"Their intention is to enter the city and take over (the) K1 base and oil fields," it said in a post on Twitter.

800 militants surrender to Kurds

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Around 800 Islamic State militants turned in themselves to the Kurdish Peshmerga troops in Kirkuk, a paramilitary official said on Sunday.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, Jabbar al-Maamouri, leader with al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said “around 800 IS militants turned in themselves to Peshmerga deployed in Kirkuk after fleeing Hawija.”

“Thirty IS leaders, who were emirs of four of the group’s states, including Kirkuk, Diyala and Salahuddin, were among those who extradited themselves,” Maamouri added.

Regarding destiny of the arrested militants, Maamouri described it as mysterious. “Peshmerga did not provide information about places to which the militants were transferred.”

Last week, Ahmed Khorsid, member of Hawija council, said Iraqi troops should launch operation to comb Hawija as well as villages of al-Dibs town, southwest of Kirkuk, and the northwest of the province. He warned that IS militants could be hiding at underground tunnels or remote regions in order to attack the troops again.

Iraq accuses Kurds of 'declaration of war' in Kirkuk

[Al Jazeera] The Iraqi government has accused Kurdish authorities of bringing fighters from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) to the disputed province of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
in a move it called a "declaration of war".

The accusation was quickly rejected by Kurdish officials later on Sunday.

Thousands of Iraqi soldiers and allied militia are locked in a tense armed standoff with Kurdish forces in the oil-rich province amid a sharp row between the central government in Baghdad and the autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq.

The National Security Council headed by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said it viewed as a "dangerous escalation" the presence of gunnies "not belonging to the regular security forces in Kirkuk", including PKK fighters.

"It is impossible to remain silent" faced with "a declaration of war towards Iraqis and government forces", the council said a statement posted on the prime minister's official Twitter account.

Sooronbai Jeenbekov set to win Kyrgyz presidential poll
[Al Jazeera] Sooronbai Jeenbekov, the chosen candidate of Kyrgyzstan's outgoing President Almazbek Atambayev, looked set for a surprise first-round victory in the country's elections, according to preliminary results.

The central election commission said Jeenbekov had secured 54.22 percent of Sunday's presidential vote based on a count from 97 percent of the polling stations.

His main opponent, oil tycoon Omurbek Babanov, trailed well behind with 33.47 percent, according to the same early data.

Polls had predicted a close runoff between Jeenbekov, a protege of Atambayev promising continuity, and Babanov, a youthful oligarch pledging to kick start a chronically impoverished economy.

Both men served as prime ministers under Atambayev, who steps down after six years in power. The Kyrgyzstan constitution allows the president to serve only one six-year term.

China-Japan-Koreas
How One Man Helped Burn Down North Korea
[Politico] It was long past time for Donald Nichols to go home. He had been spying in Korea for five years, rarely taking a day off, never returning stateside to see his family. His bosses in the U.S. Air Force had not seen an agent work so hard for so long. They called him a "one man war" and the "best intelligence operator" in the Far East. He "performed the impossible," his commanding general said. Still, air force rules were clear: He must rotate back to the United States.

Nichols made his career by ignoring rules. A black-ops officer, he rarely wore a uniform and worked outside the chain of military command. As a captain, he did not take orders from colonels or majors. He reported directly to a general who gave him a long leash‐lots of cash and his own secret base, his own army of spies and his own rules. Nick, as he was known to his men, didn’t look or behave like spies from books or movies. A seventh-grade dropout from South Florida, he was grossly overweight, drank Coca-Cola by the case and ate Hershey’s chocolate bars by the box. He told his men that he hated women. In his quarters at night, he organized clandestine sexual encounters with young South Korean airmen.

When he arrived in Korea in 1946, at the dawn of the Cold War, the peninsula was in chaos. The United States had arbitrarily cut Korea in half. The Soviet army had installed its puppet regime in the North. The U.S. Army had done the same in the South. There were border clashes, and a savage civil war broke out in the South. Americans back home paid no attention, but the fighting killed tens of thousands of Koreans. For Nichols, who was wildly ambitious and just 23 years old, it was a land of opportunity. He jumped into the thick of it, operating without supervision in a netherworld world of torture, mass killings and severed heads.

#2  ...Let me see if I understand the article: Stalin and the Kims decided to place all of Korea under a Communist dictatorship, and one lone nutcase in a USAF uniform (and I suspect this guy was NEVER Air Force, but rather CIA with USAF cover, and even that's doubtful) managed to set things up so that we kicked the Nork's a$$es so badly they haven't tried again since.

Sure thing.

-Land of the Free
Gun ownership a personal choice
Herewith a perfect example of the logical fallacy of Bulverism, as defined by C.S.Lewis.
[LimaOhio.com] Using statistics and the Constitution as CliffsNotes for your convictions is hardly evidence of high intellect. Anybody with at least a shoe-size I.Q. who views the event in Nevada on October 1 without self-examining his unconditional defense of the 2nd amendment doesn’t have enough substance inside his skull to lobotomize.
So, in the author's mind, using insults in a public debate is evidence of an IQ greater than shoe size.
What rationale is crucial to condemning the vilest act of premeditated murder since Wounded Knee, or to respond to criticisms of a stricken nation’s understandably emotional appeals to government to end this senselessness regardless of the cost politically? Statistics are a poor barometer of a nation’s despair.
Statistics are the tools of the statist. Very well put. By the way: the nation wasn't stricken. 159 people were hit with bullets fired from an individual who sought to do as much damage as he could before he checked out. You may want to take the Las Vegas shooting personally, and you may want to display your pain/anger for the world to see, but it doesn't take away from the fact that a crime was committed.
Even the NRA reacted to this outrage with a sympathetic (if meager) softening of its rigid code!
The board at the NRA will pay for their statements post massacre, with resignations. Very, very few people I know of, in and out of the NRA think the statement recommending the banning of a firearm accessory was a great idea.
Because not a single argument for the proliferation of guns in America will hold water anymore.
This, then, may come as a shock. Following the election of a pro gun president, individuals dumped firearms onto the market, on the understanding they no longer had the government to fear. Silly, it is true, but it does point out that in some cases disarmament took place conoletely without government intervention.
Who would liberals enslave? And why?
1) Everyone. 2) They're a buncha control freaks.
Well, maybe one would barter a gagged Rush Limbaugh (or someone of that ilk) for a hamster. And yes, if anybody were to threaten that one’s family with violence, he would defend them with a gun, if one were within reach. Some occasions are not suitable for over-thinking.

Many liberals own firearms; many conservatives don’t. But we’re nothing but bi-partisan among the list of casualties. Because no one is safe anymore, anywhere, at anytime.
Freedom is a dangerous concept, fraught with dangers from dangerous people who can only can be stopped by other people with firearms.
But the option of rejecting guns as opposed to owning one calls for a personal decision, not a political one.
In that one sentence, this writer has encapsulated the thinking of 90 percent of the population with regard to firearms: the 2nd Amendment only applies to me and to no one else.
Some, tragically, are not able to wait with the survivors ‘til the day that choice is hopefully no longer available.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US-backed SDF says 275 ISIS militants left Raqqa city
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US-backed militias said they had launched their final assault on Syria’s Raqqa on Sunday after a convoy of ISIS bully boyz left the city, leaving only a hardcore of bully boyz to mount a last stand.

"The battle will continue until the whole city is clean," said a statement by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab militias.

The SDF said earlier that a group of the bully boyz had left in a convoy taking some civilians with them. But there were conflicting accounts as to whether the evacuees included both Syrian and imported muscle.

Raqqa’s fall to the SDF now looks imminent after four months of battle.

"We still expect there to be difficult fighting," said Colonel Ryan Dillon, front man for the US-led international coalition backing the SDF in the war against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Raqqa was the first big Syrian city to fall to ISIS as it declared a "caliphate" and rampaged through Syria and Iraq in 2014, becoming an operations centre for attacks abroad and the stage for some of its darkest atrocities.

But ISIS has been in retreat for two years, losing swathes of territory in both countries and forced back into an ever-diminishing foothold along the Euphrates river valley.

"Last night, the final batch of fighters (who had agreed to leave) left the city," said Mostafa Bali, an SDF front man.

Bali said only Syrian ISIS fighters had evacuated in the convoy. But Omar Alloush, an official in the Raqqa Civil Council formed under SDF auspices to oversee the city, said some imported muscle had also departed.

Neither said how many fighters had left or how many remained in the tiny, bomb-cratered patch of Raqqa still held by ISIS. Before the convoy left, the coalition estimated that about 300-400 fighters remained.

Evacuation ends as ISIL defeat in Syria's Raqqa nears

[Al Jazeera] A group of ISIS fighters has evacuated the Syrian city of Raqqa overnight, taking civilians with them as human shields, a militia spokesperson said, as the battle continued with fighters who stayed behind.

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab militias, said imported muscle were not included under the withdrawal deal.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
a member of the Raqqa Civil Council said that some ISIS foreigners did manage the leave with the Syrian ISIS group as they left their self-proclaimed capital in the country's north.

The ISIS fighters took about 400 civilians with them as human shields, according to the SDF.

China-Japan-Koreas
S. Korea, U.S. start maritime drills against N. Korea
The South Korean and U.S. navies on Monday kicked off massive combined drills off the coast of the peninsula amid heightened tensions.

The allies plan to continue the Maritime Counter Special Operations Exercise (MCSOFEX) through Friday in the East Sea and the Yellow Sea, also known as the West Sea.

It involves the U.S. 7th Fleet's aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) and two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers -- the USS Stethem (DDG-63) and the USS Mustin (DDG-89).

The carrier strike group will train with South Korean warships and other defense assets, such as the Sejong the Great Aegis ship and P-3 Orion anti-submarine aircraft in the East Sea.

A unit of U.S. special forces tasked with carrying out "decapitation" operations is aboard a nuclear-powered submarine in the group, according to a defense source.

Among other assets mobilized are F-15K, FA-18 and A-10 fighter jets, as well as AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, Lynx and AW-159 Wild Cat naval choppers.

The U.S. has also deployed a Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) plane to closely monitor the North's ground and naval forces.

The joint training is aimed at promoting "communications, interoperability and partnership in the (U.S.) 7th Fleet area of operations," the fleet said.

It initially announced that the practice around the peninsula will end next Thursday but later corrected the date to Friday.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has sent a B-1B Lancer strategic bomber, F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets and several other types of high-profile defense assets to the Seoul air show to open this week.

"Approximately 200 U.S. personnel are expected to participate in the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2017, scheduled from Oct. 17-22 at the Seoul K-16 airport," the 7th Air Force said.

Among the U.S. military aircraft to join the biennial event are the F-22 Raptor, B-1B Lancer, A-10 Thunderbolt II, C-17 Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules, KC-135 Stratotanker, E-3 Sentry, U-2 Dragon Lady and RQ-4 Global Hawk, it added.

Also fielded will be the Air Force's fifth-generation fighter, the F-35A Lightning II, U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon and a U.S. Army CH-47F Chinook.

"This year's air show will feature demonstrations from U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors assigned to the 3rd Wing, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska," the 7th Air Force said.

More than 400 defense firms from 33 countries plan to participate in the ADEX to begin Tuesday.

4 Pak Kops die in bombing attack in Kurram District
A bomb Sunday killed four Pakistani soldiers as they searched for militants linked to the kidnapping of a US-Canadian family who were freed last week.

The incident happened near the Kharlachi checkpoint in Kurram district in the restive tribal belt bordering Afghanistan.

The family were being held by the Taliban-allied Haqqani network in the tribal area until they were rescued during a Pakistani military operation Wednesday.

Puigdemont pressured as 'independence' deadline looms
[Al Jazeera] Catalan President Carles Puigdemont finds himself in a difficult position after the far-left Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP) party delivered a letter demanding he declare independence by Monday.

"Only by proclaiming the republic will we be able to position ourselves as an actor willing to protect the civil and political rights of the population still seriously threatened," says the letter, which was released on Friday.

Puigdemont declared on October 10 an independent Catalan republic following the disputed referendum on October 1. Then, to the dismay of CUP and other nationalists, suspended the effects of the declaration after eight seconds.

According to Puigdemont, it was an attempt to foster dialogue with the national government in order to make a peaceful declaration of independence.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy responded with an ultimatum. Puigdemont must clarify whether or not he declared independence by Monday. If he affirms the declaration, or declines to respond, Rajoy promises to invoke Article 155 of the Spanish constitution which will strip Catalonia of its autonomy.

Puigdemont responded on October 11 by tweeting: "Ask for dialogue and they answer you by putting the 155 on the table. Understood."

Three women charged in Lake St. Louis $7,000 undies heist and, car chase
Victoria Secret things are pretty and all, but they aren't much better made than what can be bought at WalMart, nor better fitting. Next time, dear ladies, try robbing the Nordstrom lingerie department -- after you've been properly fitted so you take the proper sizes.
[KMOV] ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. -- Three women have been charged with stealing more than $7,000 worth of Victoria Secret merchandise.

Brittany R. Bobo, 24, Shomyia Hemphill, 28, and Lamonica McGee, 23, are facing felony stealing charges. Hemphill is also facing an additional charge of resisting arrest.

The crime that began at Victoria's Secret ended in a car fire on Highway 64/40.

Police say the women entered a Victoria's Secret in the Meadows shopping center in Lake St. Louis, walked to the front displays and began stacking clothing that had been spread out on display tables.

Once the women made numerous stacks, the suspect took the clothing and ran out, police say.

Lake St. Louis Police say the women drove off in a 2007 Nissan Altima. Police tried to stop their car as it fled east on Interstate 64. During the pursuit the driver struck a curb and blew out the tire.

Driving on an exposed rim, the suspects fled east on 64/40 with officers following them. Eventually, the driver pulled over near Spoede Road and the car caught fire, likely due to the heat and sparks from the rims grinding against the roadway.

All but one lane of eastbound Highway 64/40 was closed at Spoede and the westbound lanes, while open, were heavily slowed. None of the suspects were injured and all women were arrested. Bond for the suspects is set at $10,000 each.

'By both sides!' Marr SLAPS DOWN Clinton after suggesting Brexit campaign was a 'BIG LIE'
HILLARY CLINTON’S attempt to suggest the Brexit campaign succeeded on the basis of "fabricated" facts was swiftly slapped down by BBC host Andrew Marr.

The losing Democrat presidential candidate, who is in the UK as part of her global book tour, said Brexit was a precursor to her defeat to Donald Trump in last year’s US presidential election.

Speaking to the BBC’s Andrew Marr, in a wide-ranging interview, Mrs Clinton also warned Brexit will a "very big disadvantage" to the UK if it fails to strike a deal with the European Union.

Clearly bemoaning Brexit influence in Mr Trump’s successes in the race to the White House, Mrs Clinton complained about the "amount of fabricated, false information" used by the Leave campaign to secure Britain’s EU divorce.

She said: "I wanted to make another point about Brexit. Looking at the Brexit vote now, it was a precursor, to some extent, to what happened to us in the United States.

"But the amount of fabricated, false information that your voters were given by the Leave campaign..."

BBC host Marr, however, was keen to set the American straight by suggesting Brexit campaigners were not the only guilty party in this suggestion.

Marr said: "From both sides, I must say here!"

Attempting to atone for her comments, Mrs Clinton said: "Well, I’m not as familiar with... But, I’m very familiar with what the Leave side said because they transported a lot of that on behalf of Trump."

She added: "You know, the big lie is a very potent tool, and we’ve somewhat kept it at bay in western democracies, partly because of the freedom of the press.

"Obviously, there have always been newspapers who leaned right or leaned left and they kind of counterbalanced each other.

"But, given the absolutely explosive spread of online news and sites that have sprung up that are very effective at propagating false stories, we’ve got some thinking to do... There has to be some basic level of fact and evidence in our politics."

Mrs Clinton also claimed Britain should not rely on a post-Brexit trade deal with the US, because Donald Trump does not "believe in trade".

Speaking of the no deal Brexit scenario, she said: "I mean, no deal meaning no preferential trade deals, which means products in Britain would not have the kind of easy access to the European market that you’ve had under EU membership.

"It could very well mean there would be more pressure on businesses in Britain, if not to leave completely, at least to also have sites and employment elsewhere in Europe."
Amazing. It's as though she has no fear of the Logan Act. Vids at link.

Harvey Weinstein investigated by British police over THREE new sex assault claims
[EXPRESS.CO.UK] Harvey Weinstein is under investigation
The fresh complaints, from one alleged victim, relate to incidents in 2010, 2011 and 2015, in Westminster and Camden.
Maybe we should just start with the eleven or twelve women on the face of the earth he hasn't molested or groped?
It takes the total number of allegations being investigated by the Met to four, after Merseyside Police passed a complaint dating back to the late 1980s to Scotland Yard earlier in the week.

The latest allegations came as more British women came forward to claim they were raped by Mr Weinstein.
