The ugly terror truth about Jamal Khashoggi

#1  "In high school, Jamal Khashoggi had a good friend. His name was Osama bin Laden.

“We were hoping to establish an Islamic state anywhere,” Khashoggi reminisced about their time together in the Muslim Brotherhood. “We believed that the first one would lead to another, and that would have a domino effect which could reverse the history of mankind.”

The friendship endured with Jamal Khashoggi following Osama bin Laden to Afghanistan. Khashoggi credited Adel Batterjee, listed at one time as one of “the world’s foremost terrorist financiers” by the Treasury Department, with bringing him to Afghanistan to report on the fighting.

The media calls Khashoggi a journalist, but his writings from 80s Afghanistan read as Jihadist propaganda with titles like, "Arab Mujahadeen in Afghanistan II: Exemplifies the Unity of Islamic Ummah".

And when Osama bin Laden set up Al Qaeda, he called Khashoggi with the details. "

Europe
Cologne, Germany: Hostage Freed After Stand-Off With Armed Suspect In Suspected Terrorist Attack
[DailyCaller] German police rescued a woman after she was taken hostage by an armed assailant at the Cologne central train station Monday, an incident now being investigated as a possible terror attack, officials said.

Investigators say the incident began around around 12:45 p.m. local time, when a man carrying several homemade firebombs entered a McDonald’s near the station and ignited one. A 14-year-old girl was severely injured in the bast.

The suspect then fled to a pharmacy at Breslauer Plaza, near the back side of the train station, where he held a woman hostage for at least two hours, Deutsche Welle reported. He “massively threatened” the hostage and at one point tried to set her on fire, police said.

After crisis negotiations broke down, special police commandos stormed the pharmacy to free the hostage. The hostage taker, who police say was holding a pistol, was shot and seriously injured. The hostage and a bystander were also hurt in the operation.

“Special response units overpowered the man. During the police action he hurt two bystanders, one of them seriously,” police said in a statement, according to Agence France-Presse.

Investigators said they had not positively identified the attacker, who was being treated at a local hospital, but believed he was a 55-year-old Syrian migrant. Syrian identity documents in the same name as an asylum seeker who had been issued a German residency permit were found at the pharmacy, police said.

Several eyewitnesses to Monday’s attack say the attacker claimed to belong to ISIS, police said, according to NBC News.

U.S. Has 3.5 Million More Registered Voters Than Live Adults - A Red Flag For Electoral Fraud
[INVESTORS] Elections: American democracy has a problem ‐ a voting problem. According to a new study of U.S. Census data, America has more registered voters than actual live voters. It's a troubling fact that puts our nation's future in peril.

The data come from Judicial Watch's Election Integrity Project. The group looked at data from 2011 to 2015 produced by the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, along with data from the federal Election Assistance Commission.

As reported by the National Review's Deroy Murdock, who did some numbers-crunching of his own, "some 3.5 million more people are registered to vote in the U.S. than are alive among America's adult citizens. Such staggering inaccuracy is an engraved invitation to voter fraud."

Murdock counted Judicial Watch's state-by-state tally and found that 462 U.S. counties had a registration rate exceeding 100% of all eligible voters. That's 3.552 million people, who Murdock calls "ghost voters." And how many people is that? There are 21 states that don't have that many people.

Nor are these tiny, rural counties or places that don't have the wherewithal to police their voter rolls.

Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, for instance, has 11 counties with more registered voters than actual voters. Perhaps not surprisingly ‐ it is deep-Blue State California, after all ‐ 10 of those counties voted heavily for Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
Los Angeles County, whose more than 10 million people make it the nation's most populous county, had 12% more registered voters than live ones, some 707,475 votes. That's a huge number of possible votes in an election.

But, Murdock notes, "California's San Diego County earns the enchilada grande. Its 138% registration translates into 810,966 ghost voters."

State by state, this is an enormous problem that needs to be dealt with seriously. Having so many bogus voters out there is a temptation to voter fraud. In California, where Hillary Clinton racked up a massive majority over Trump, it would have made little difference.

#10  Why they keep pushing the "National Vote" to replace the Electoral College... I remember reading about some of the shenanigans in Spain just before the Spanish Civil War where entire districts voted 100%, *cough*, 110% for a particular party.

#11  entire districts voted 100%, *cough*, 110% for a particular party.

After the last Presidential election, the idea of a recount to overturn the unpossible result was quite popular. They actually started doing one in Michigan, beginning in reliably Democratic Detroit. Didn't last long, though.

In Michigan, they use paper ballots and optical readers. After voting, the ballots are stored in boxes with the vote tallies and ballot count marked on the outside. When doing a recount, if the actual number of physical ballots in the box doesn't match the number on the outside, that box cannot counted. After doing a few precincts where something like 60% (if memory serves) of the counts didn't match, the whole idea quietly faded away.

Trump says 'rogue killers' may be behind Khashoggi disappearance
[Al Ahram] U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said on Monday "rogue killers" may have been behind the disappearance of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Lord of Most of the Arabians....
ordered an internal investigation into the case.

Trump said he had spoken with King Salman about Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi policies, and that he was sending Secretary of State Mike Pompeo immediately to meet the king and travel to other places as needed.

Khashoggi, a U.S. resident and Washington Post columnist, vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul two weeks ago to get marriage documents. Ottoman Turkish officials have said authorities believe he was murdered there and his body removed.

Saudi Arabia has strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
killing Khashoggi and denounced such assertions as "lies", saying he left the building shortly after entering.

"The king firmly denied any knowledge of it," Trump told news hounds. "He didn't really know, maybe - I don't want to get into his mind but it sounded to me - maybe these could have been rogue killers. Who knows?"

#8  Jamal reportedly left his iPhone with his fiance but was wearing an Apple watch with recorded it all to the Cloud. The German news reported other details that should be investigated--a WAPO journalist with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood is not an innocent victim:

Germany's leading right-of-center daily Die Welt this morning reveals that Jamal Khashoggi was not a journalist, but a high-level operative for the Saudi intelligence service, an intimate of Osama bin Laden, and the nephew of the shadiest of all Arab arms dealers, the infamous Adnan Khashoggi. John Bradley reported last week in the Spectator that Khashoggi, who allegedly met a grisly end in a Saudi consulate in Istanbul, was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist organization that among other things wants to replace the Saudi monarchy with a modern Islamist totalitarian state.
So much for the whining in the Establishment media about freedom of the press and protection of the rights of journalists. The presumed-dead Khashoggi was a top-level spook who swore fealty to some of the Arab world's nastiest elements, and who played a high-stakes game in Saudi spookdom.

Egypt court upholds prison terms for Morsi, 19 others for insulting judiciary
[Al Ahram] Egypt’s Court of Cassation upheld on Monday a three year sentence against ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi and 19 others and issued fines for five others for insulting the judiciary.

The court rejected today the appeal by Morsi and 24 others, including Islamists and non-Islamists, against a 2017 court ruling, which convicted them of insulting the judiciary and criticising court rulings.

Monday's verdict is final.

In December 2017, a Cairo criminal court sentenced the defendants to three years for insulting the judiciary and its judges through publications and statements to TV and radio stations, as well as social media.

Those sentenced include tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
members of the banned-Moslem Brüderbund figures Saad El-Katatny, Mohammed El-Beltagy, and Sobhi Saleh, who were present today in court.

Some of those sentenced are runaways or had been released pending the appeal.

Political Activist Mostafa El-Nagar and journalist Abdel-Halim Kandil were among those sentenced to three years in prison today.

The five defendants in the case who were fined EGP 30,000 include controversial TV presenter Tawfik Okasha, political analyst Amr Hamzawy; political activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah; prominent rights layer Amir Salem; and former Wafd Party MP Mahmoud El-Sakka.

Iran dismisses reports of suicide bomb threat at Ankara embassy
[Al Ahram] Iran dismissed reports on Monday of a suicide bomb threat at its embassy in Ankara, Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said, after a Ottoman Turkish newspaper reported a planned attack on the building.

Ottoman Turkish daily Sozcu said that the embassy had been evacuated after authorities were informed of a planned suicide kaboom on the building.

However a Rooters TV cameraman at the scene said visitors to the embassy reported that operations were continuing normally despite heightened security in the area.

Police carried out searches on vehicles and the road on which the embassy is located was briefly closed to traffic, he said, adding that it was later reopened.

Iran's foreign ministry denied that there was a bomb threat against the embassy and denied that the building had been evacuated, state TV reported.

Policeman, trader booked for ‘lynching mobile phone thief’
[DAWN] KARACHI: The Frere police on Sunday registered a murder case against a detained CTD policeman and a mobile shop owner for ’lynching’ a 50-year-old labourer at the Cantonment Railway Station in the early hours of Saturday morning over a ’mobile phone theft’ allegation, said City SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro, who is also in-charge SSP-South.

The victim’s family also levelled allegations of ’criminal negligence’ against two coppers of the Frere cop shoppe, who allegedly instead of taking critically injured labourer Ghulam Sarwar to the hospital took him to the cop shoppe where they allegedly demanded a bribe from the family for releasing him, added the senior officer.

The police have registered an FIR (166/2018) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistain Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s wife, Mumtaz Bibi, against detained CTD policeman Uzair Khan and shopkeeper Rana Muhammad Aslam.

According to contents of the FIR, Mumtaz Bibi received a call from her husband’s mobile phone at 4.30am on Saturday to bring a cellphone, which her husband had mistakenly taken home from a public mobile phone charging facility at the Cantonment Station.

Later she received another call to come to the Frere cop shoppe. She came to the cop shoppe and handed over the phone to the police and asked the police to let her meet her husband, but the police asked her to come later.

The complainant said that she learnt that her husband had gone to the Cantonment Station at 3am on Saturday where shopkeeper Rana Mohammed Aslam and CTD constable Uzair and others caught hold of him and subjected him to beating for ’stealing’ the mobile phone.

They handed over her husband to the police in an injured condition, who succumbed to his wounds.

Apart from registering the murder case against the said suspects, the complainant demanded action against the two coppers of the Frere cop shoppe, Sameer and Ahmed, who allegedly demanded Rs50,000 as a bribe for releasing her husband and ’misbehaved’ with her.

Heap Big Whoop
[BostonGlobe] Senator Elizabeth Warren has released a DNA test that provides "strong evidence’’ she had a Native American in her family tree dating back 6 to 10 generations, an unprecedented move by one of the top possible contenders for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president.
That would make her 1/512th Native American. I have more than that. Does she really believe that makes her Native American?
Warren, whose claims to Native American blood have been mocked by President Trump and other Republicans, provided the test results to the Globe on Sunday in an effort to defuse questions about her ancestry that have persisted for years. She planned an elaborate rollout Monday of the results as she aimed for widespread attention.

The analysis of Warren’s DNA was done by Carlos D. Bustamante, a Stanford University professor and expert in the field who won a 2010 MacArthur fellowship, also known as a genius grant, for his work on tracking population migration via DNA analysis.

Germany deports man convicted over 9/11 terror attack 17 years after atrocity
[OUTLINE] Germany has deported a Moroccan man who acted as a "book-keeper" for the 9/11 terrorists, 17 years after the deadly attacks.

Mounir el Motassadeq, a member of a terrorist organization known as the called "Hamburg cell", was imprisoned in 2006 after he was convicted of aiding lead hijacker Mohammed Atta and two other al-Qaeda forces of Evil by paying their tuition and rent to keep the pretence that they were students.

Almost 3,000 people were killed when two hijacked planes were flown into the twin towers of New York's World Trade Centre on 11 September 2001. Two more jets were taken over by terrorists, one crashing into the Pentagon and the other into a field in Pennsylvania.

El Motassadeq, who had protested his innocence during the 2006 trial, is now expected to be put on a flight to Marrakesh, Morocco, after being collected from his Hamburg jail cell, where he had served almost 15 years.

Death toll reaches 60 in Nigeria's Friday oil pipeline fire
[Al Ahram] Sixty people were killed after a fire broke out on Friday on an oil pipeline in the southeast of Nigeria, a front man for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Monday, up from the tally of 16 dead given by officials three days earlier.

The state oil company on Friday said pumping on the System 2E pipeline network had been halted.

"We will resume the pumping of products very soon," NNPC front man Ndu Ughamadu told Rooters on Monday. "We had put out the fire. We are now pumping water in the pipeline to detect other possible areas of leakages."

The System 2E pipeline is a key network that supplies imported gasoline and output from the Port Harcourt refineries to much of the southeast and north of the country. The two refining plants at Port Harcourt operate far below their 210,000 barrels per day capacity.

In an emailed statement, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said it had been prevented from pumping fuel to the southeastern Enugu Depot "which has remained underutilised despite its recent rehabilitation by the NNPC".

Many oil spills in the southern oil production heartland of Africa's biggest crude producer are caused by theft and pipeline sabotage. The methods used to steal the oil often result in accidents that cause fires.

The state oil company , which on Friday gave a corpse count of 16, said the fire had been caused by pipeline vandals who breached the pipeline in Ososioma near the southeastern city of Aba.

[Al Ahram] Egypt's interior ministry said in a statement on Monday that police had killed nine snuffies near the Assiut-Sohag desert highway.

The statement said that the police forces foiled hostile operations that a group of snuffies was planning to carry out.

The suspects were located in a cave in an area off the highway, in the province of El-Ghanayem.

The ministry said they possessed weapons and explosives, and were planning to carry out hostile operations targeting vital institutions.

The interior ministry added it coordinated with the supreme state security prosecution to raid the cave.

A shoot-out between police forces and the snuffies took place, leaving nine of the snuffies dead, the ministry said.

The forces also found weapons, ammunition, bombs, and some planning papers.

Prophet Mohammed slippers missing for 16 years
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Shocked by the case of Prophet Mohammad’s slippers missing from Pakistain’s iconic royal mosque for 16 years and angered by inability of country’s law enforcement agencies to recover them, Chief Justice of Pakistain’s Supreme Court has formed a Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) to probe into the case.

"Chief Justice of Supreme Court has formed a JIT comprising of officials from Pakistain’s Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI), Military Intelligence and senior police officials to probe missing slippers of Prophet Mohammad (PTUI!)," a press statement issued from Supreme Court stated on Sunday.

"We can’t even protect Prophet Muhammad’s slippers. What a shame," Chief Justice Saqib Nisar remarked on Sunday. A pair of slippers, believed to have been used by Prophet Mohammad (PTUI!), had gone missing from Pakistain’s Badshahi Mosque (royal mosque) on July 30, 2002.

Apparently, thieves picked up the sacred relic from a glass case inside the Pakistain’s Badshahi Mosque, which was built in 1673 during the Moghul period, where it had been on display. Dozens of pilgrims and visitors used to visit the site every day.

"The convict is a serial killer and will be hanged day after tomorrow [Wednesday]," said Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry in court.

The bench issued a notice to the Punjab home secretary to appear in court tomorrow.

In a writ petition filed on Saturday, Ansari submitted that all appeals of the convict had been dismissed by available legal forums ‐ the high court, Supreme Court and president of Pakistain. He said the trial court had also issued death warrants of the convict for Oct 17.

He had stated that Section 22 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 empowered the government to hang a convict publicly, complaining that the government was not complying with the law available on the subject.

Australian ministers under fire for backing 'okay to be white' vote
[PULSE.NG] Australia's indigenous affairs minister and several of his colleagues faced calls to resign Monday, after they backed a failed parliamentary motion tabled by a controversial senator that declared: "It is okay to be white."

Several government ministers -- including those for trade, communications and indigenous affairs minister Nigel Scullion -- backed a resolution drafted by populist firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
senator Pauline Hanson which railed against what it described as "the deplorable rise of anti-white racism".

Luke Pearson, the founder of influential anti-racism group, IndigenousX, echoed a string of calls for Scullion to resign after the vote.

"The minister for Indigenous Affairs, voting in support of what is widely known to be a white supremacist slogan, 'It's okay to be white', makes his position as minister entirely untenable. He needs to resign," Pearson wrote.

Scullion, a white senator for the Northern Territory, has held the Indigenous Affairs portfolio since 2013.

During parliamentary debate Hanson defended trying to codify what opponents see as race baiting.

"Such a simple sentence should go without saying," Hanson told the chamber, before her motion was defeated 31 votes to 28. "But I suspect many members in this place would struggle to say it."

or exiled, and warnings that he would try to fix the vote.

But in a surprise turn of events, a little-known united opposition candidate, Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, was declared the winner, sparking celebrations across the tropical holiday destination.

Yameen initially said he accepted defeat, and was ready to step down when his term ends on November 17. But last week he launched a Supreme Court challenge, seeking to annul the result.

At a hearing on Sunday which resumed Monday, Yameen's lawyer Mohammed Saleem accused the printer of coating ballot papers with an unnamed substance to make votes marked in Yameen's box vanish.

Saleem said a "special pen with disappearing ink" had been given to people who were going to vote for his client, a news hound at the hearing said.

A lawyer for the Elections Commission, which Yameen accused of colluding with the printer to ensure his defeat, on Sunday denied any wrongdoing, including using any special ink.

Iran says US unilateral sanctions to violate basic human rights
[PRESSTV] Iran’s envoy to the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
has slammed Washington’s ’morally wrong’ measures against other countries, saying that unilateral sanctions amount to collective punishment and violate basic human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
.

Gholamali Khoshroo on Monday regretted that the US "is addicted to sanctions" and sees it "as a tool in its toolbox in pursuance of its own national interests."

"The morally wrong and ethically unjustified unilateral measures not only defy the rule of law at the international level but also infringe upon the right to development and lead to the violation of basic human rights," Khoshroo said.

He made the remarks in an address to the Sixth Committee of the 73st Session of the United Nations General Assembly on 'Report of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization'.

The Iranian envoy further noted that Tehran welcomes a report by the Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, particularly where it says unilateral sanctions, aggravated by secondary sanctions seeking the "economic isolation" of the target country, amount to discrimination against the innocent population of the country concerned."

"Coercive measures often lead to collective punishment of innocent civilians and violation of human rights," he noted, blasting the US’ measures against the Islamic Theocratic Republic, which have hit innocent civilians on the contrary to what American officials claim.

Sears, once dominant retail chain, files for bankruptcy
[Al Ahram] Sears, the venerable US chain that once dominated the retail sector but had been in decline since the advent of the Amazon era, filed for bankruptcy Monday.

With a history that stretches back to 1886, the company was a pioneer of departmental stores that catered to everyone and went on to build a vast empire that stretched across North America.

But it has closed hundreds of stores in recent years amid a retail shakeout caused in part by the rise of Amazon and other e-commerce players.

"The Company and certain of its subsidiaries have filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York," a statement by Sears Holdings Corporation said.

The company had been in deep debt and reportedly could not afford a $134 million repayment that had been due on Monday.

#9  Sears was the Amazon of its day during the start of the industrial revolution. Its catalogs and ability to get cheap factory goods to rural areas put a lot of mom and pop shops out of business. It brought the city's industrial revolution to the farm.

Fast forward 120 years and now the internet and Amazon does the same to them.

#10  But Darth, shopping malls are the wave of the FUTURE! you don't need to mess with that Sears has everything BS and can concentrate on all those high profit items.
Personally my giving up on Sears happened back in the 80's Iwas having trouble getting my car started and was pretty sure I just needed a new battery. Hey I'm just a short hop away from Sears so I pull into the auto shop to get a new battery. No problem we will test it for free. So right before closing they tell me my alternator is bad and they don't fix them. So I take it to a shop the next day and they say all I need is a new battery.
When I first started working at Amazon and a roll of chicken wire came down the line, all I could think of is all the Sears catalog sales execs that must be spinning intheir graves. BTW recently I had to check in Kenmore vacum cleaners so somebody has already bought the Kenmore name.

#11  Sears failed to keep up. I think they thought they were too established to fail. They stopped their big catalog in 1993, determined to wring more money from their physical stores. Their big catalog, which had been a fascinating window beyond immediate surroundings for many, rural and urban, disappeared.

This was right around when Mosaic and later Netscape Navigator became available. Prior to that most things internet were labs and government islands. Sears did not take advantage of the internet; 'the world only needs one computer' kind of mindset.

Taiwan was more in-play than the PRC. All things have their day. Sears has passed its sell-by date.

Iraq
Remnants of ISIS exploit security gaps, adopt new military tactics in Iraq
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] As the first anniversary of the Iraqi forces victory against ISIS nears, the terrorist organization’s remnants are trying to exploit security gaps in some areas that are not very far from the capital Baghdad.

Doctor Hashem al-Hashemi, an expert in gangs’ affairs, said ISIS has adopted a new military tactic ever since its defeat in October last year and the declaration of victory against it later in December.

"After ISIS commanders (dispatched) their fighters to the desert and mountains in scattered areas in Iraq and Syria, the organization resorted to the so-called gang hybrid warfare and (adopted) the tactics of the ghost fighter," Hashemi said, adding that the aim is sowing chaos in areas with sectarian or ethnic diversity or finding areas that are fragile in terms of security.

He added that ISIS’s new tactic also includes deploying fighters in areas of minorities.

FUNDING VIA ABDUCTION, THEFT
Commenting on the group’s economic activity, Hashemi said the organization has begun relying on self-funding via theft, abduction and blackmail, adding that this means ISIS has lost its ability to receive foreign funding and to make money from the investments it had done by selling oil in Iraq and Syria.

According to some observers, ISIS smuggled around $400 million abroad from Iraq and Syria and it seeks to increase its resources via money laundering operations.

He noted that ISIS, which once controlled 48 percent of the Syrian territory and 32 percent of the Iraqi territory, now only controls 2 percent of Syria and its organizational capacity decreased from 32 states to just six.

ISIS’s THREE DIWANS
Hashemi also said that ISIS’s self-appointed caliph His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
eliminated more than nine diwans and kept just three, which are Diwan al-Jund (soldiery) that manages military affairs, a diwan for security and intelligence and a financial and administrative diwan.

Hashemi added that legitimate committees are no longer binding and only act as an advisory body, administrative and financial departments are decentralized and the organization’s targets are selected by the security commander, and not the military commander.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella opened her mouth at precisely the wrong moment...
a security source in Diyala said the number of ISIS remnants in Diyala is no more than 70 gunnies, adding that most of them are present in Hamrin Basin which is 55 kilometers northeast of Baqubah. He added that ISIS’s activity decreased by 70 percent compared to this time last year.

#1  ...No, what it comes down to is this: if the program runs smoothly and comes in under budget, no one makes any money.

True story: when my dad worked for NASA in the early 90s, he was part of a team tasked to develop a Mach 3+ air intake for an experimental craft. Doing a little research, Dad discovered that a lot of the work (and therefore much time saved) had already been done by North American Aircraft and NASA as part of the XB-70 Valkyrie program. Dad brought this presumably joyous news to his superiors, whereupon he was told to sit down, shut up, and forget he'd ever seen the stuff. Nobody makes any money if they build upon existing research - better we do it again.

‘After Idlib, our next target is east of the Euphrates’ -- Syrian FM
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem held a presser on Monday after his meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Ja’afari concluded in Damascus.

During the presser, the veteran politician touched on a number of topics, including the situation inside the Idlib government.

Muallem said that if the jihadist rebels do not accept the Idlib agreement, the Syrian Armed Forces is prepared to deal with them militarily.

Furthermore, Muallem told the news hounds at the presser that once the situation in Idlib is resolved, the Syrian military will shift their attention to the territories to the east of the Euphrates River.

"After Idlib, our target is east of the Euphrates," Muallem stressed.

This comment is in direct reference to the U.S. Coalition’s presence along the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Stormy Daniels Loses Libel Lawsuit Over Trump's ‘Con Job' Tweet
[Bloomberg] Stormy Daniels's libel lawsuit over a tweet by Donald Trump accusing her of "a total con job" was thrown out by a judge who said the president was engaging in free speech.

The adult film star, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claimed she was threatened by an unknown man in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2011 for agreeing to cooperate with a magazine article about a tryst she says she had with Trump in 2006. After her lawyer released a composite sketch of the man, Trump accused Clifford in an April tweet of "a total con job" concerning a "nonexistent man."
who looked strikingly like her now-ex-husband
"The court agrees with Mr. Trump's argument because the tweet in question constitutes ‘rhetorical hyperbole' normally associated with politics and public discourse in the U.S.," U.S. District Judge S. James Otero in Los Angeles said in a ruling Monday. "The First Amendment protects this type of rhetorical statement."

Trump's lawyers had argued that Clifford -- far from being harmed -- has benefited financially from her public dispute with the president.

"We will appeal the dismissal of the defamation cause of action and are confident in a reversal," Clifford's lawyer, Michael Avenatti, said in a statement. "There is something really rich in Trump relying on the First Amendment to justify defaming a woman."
"We want 15 more minutes!"
The judge awarded Trump reasonable attorney’s fees.
good luck getting that except in moist dollar bills. Avenatti's broke
"No amount of spin or commentary by Stormy Daniels or her lawyer, Mr. Avenatti, can truthfully characterize today's ruling in any way other than total victory for President Trump and total defeat for Stormy Daniels," Trump's lawyer, Charles Harder, said in a statement.

The case is Clifford v. Trump, 18-cv-06893, U.S. District Court, Central District of California (Los Angeles).

Russian fuel excise tax set to rise
Direct translation
[REGNUM] The increase in excise taxes on fuel in Russia since the beginning of 2019 can lead to a sharp increase in gasoline prices. This is stated in the conclusion of the Accounts Chamber on the draft federal budget for 2019 and the planned period 2020-2021, reports Kommersant on October 15.

According to the publication, the document notes that from July 1, excise taxes on gasoline allowed only slightly lower retail prices: in July - by 0.2%, in August - by 0.3%. According to the Accounts Chamber, this was “not enough to compensate for the outpacing price increases accumulated since the beginning of the year.”

As REGNUM news agency reported , from January 1, 2019 in Russia, excise taxes on motor gasoline will rise by 3.7 thousand rubles - to 12,374 rubles per ton, excise taxes on diesel fuel will be increased by 2.7 thousand rubles - to 8541 rubles per ton.

Seven jailed in Bahrain over last year’s oil pipeline blast
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Bahrain court sentenced seven citizens to prison terms Monday, stripping six of their nationality after finding the group guilty of attacking an oil pipeline last year.

The charges included forming a "terrorist group" and "training in the use of weapons and explosives", BNA said.

Somalia executes perpetrator on anniversary of deadliest attack
[PULSE.NG] Somalia on Sunday executed by firing squad a man linked to one of the country's deadliest ever attacks, one year after the tragedy which left over 500 dead, a court statement and police sources said.

Hundreds of Somalis gathered at a ceremony to mark the anniversary of the attack in which a truck packed with explosives blew up at a busy intersection, destroying some 20 buildings in an apocalyptic scene in a city used to regular explosions at the hands of Islamist group Al-Shabaab.

A year on, the Al-Qaeda linked group which still governs large swaths of territory, has never claimed responsibility, which observers attribute to the public outrage caused by the attack.

To coincide with the anniversary, a military court announced early Sunday morning that a member of the team involved in the attack, had been executed.

Hassan Adan Isak, was sentenced to death for "driving one of the vehicles used in the blast," read a statement from the court.

"Today, the 14th October 2018, the death penalty was carried out against him."

Isak was the driver of a vehicle which he parked near an airport checkpoint shortly after the truck went off, and was arrested for suspicious behaviour. The target of his attack was unclear and there were no casualties in the second blast.

Police sources said he died by firing squad.

'JUSTICE AND PROTECTION'
Business at the Zoope intersection has returned to normal, and some buildings have been reconstructed, now carrying billboards depicting harrowing pictures of the blast and its victims.

A memorial tower has been erected in the middle of the intersection.

"All we can do is pray for them, I have lost them, I don't think commemoration would bring them back to me, but I hope nothing like the October tragedy happens again," said Omar Haji Mohamed, a disabled father who lost two children in the blast.

"I still cry from the bottom of my heart where people cannot see and only God knows how much I go through every day of my life after that tragedy," he added.

Some frustrated residents said mourning would not solve the insecurity in the capital.

"I don't think mourning is the right and sufficient answer to wipe the tears from the eyes of those who have lost their loved ones, these people were massacred, so the perpetrators need to be chased and eliminated," said Ali Adan, a Mogadishu resident who lost three of his friends in the blast.

Abdisalan Mohamed, 23, who lost his brother, agreed: "I can still see the disaster right in front of me. We can mourn as much as we can, but it will not bring back our relatives, all we need is justice and protection."

Syria says it's ready to fight for Idlib if Islamist militants reject deal
[Al Ahram] Syria's foreign minister said on Monday that Syrian forces stand ready to fight Islamist Lions of Islam around the northwestern region of Idlib if a Russian-Ottoman Turkish deal is not implemented there the same day, in keeping with a critical deadline.

The deal for Idlib sets up a buffer zone running 15-20 km (9-13 miles) deep into rebel territory that must be evacuated of all heavy weapons and all Islamist Lions of Islam by Monday.

Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem said it was up to Russia now to judge whether the agreement, which staved off a government offensive on the last notable swathe of territory in bully boy hands after seven years of war, was being fulfilled.

"Our armed forces are ready around Idlib to eradicate terrorism if the Idlib agreement is not implemented," al-Moualem said at a presser with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari in Damascus.

"Idlib, as any other province, has to return to Syrian illusory sovereignty. We prefer to have it through peaceful means, through reconciliation, but if not there (are) other options."

Tahrir al-Sham
, an alliance of Islamist Lions of Islam spearheaded by al Qaeda's former Syrian affiliate, signalled on Sunday that it would abide by the terms of the deal, although it did not explicitly say so.

"We value the efforts of all those striving - at home and abroad - to protect the liberated area and prevent its invasion and the perpetration of massacres in it," Tahrir al-Sham said in its statement. However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
it added that Tahrir al-Sham would not end its jihad or hand over its weapons.

Iranian crude exports fall further as Trump's sanctions loom
[Al Ahram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
and Italia are the last buyers of Iranian crude outside China, India and the Middle East, according to tanker data and an industry source, the latest sign that shipments are taking a major hit from looming U.S. sanctions.

The Islamic Theocratic Republic has exported 1.33 million barrels per day so far in October to India, China, Turkey and the Middle East, according to Refinitiv Eikon data. No vessels are shown heading to Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
with Iranian crude.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
an industry source who also tracks the exports estimated shipments at 1.5 million bpd, including vessels which are not showing on AIS satellite tracking, of which a 1 million-barrel tanker is going to Italia.

That's down from at least 2.5 million bpd in April, before President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
in May withdrew the United States from a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and reimposed sanctions. The figures also mark a further fall from 1.6 million bpd in September.

The expected loss of a sizeable amount of Iranian supply has helped drive a rally in oil prices, which on Oct. 3 hit their highest since late 2014 at $86.74 a barrel. Crude has since eased to $81 although analysts say the Iranian export drop remains supportive.

"It's one of the reasons why prices are still above $80," said Eugen Weinberg, analyst at Commerzbank.

The October figures add to signs that buyers are sufficiently wary of the U.S. sanctions to stop or scale back their Iranian crude dealings, and that exports are falling more steeply than some in the market expected.

Iraq
Iraqi court cancels Abadi’s order on ex-Hashd al-Sha'abi head
[PRESSTV] An Iraqi court has overridden an earlier decision by outgoing Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to dismiss the former head of the pro-government Popular Mobilization Units, and declare himself as the replacement.

The Iraqi Administrative Court ruled on Monday that the dismissal of Falih al-Fayyadh as the chief of volunteer fighters ‐ better known by their Arabic name as Hashd al-Sha’abi ‐ and a number of security agencies will result in hiatus in those organs, and will expose the country’s security to terrorist threats.

The court further noted that Fayyadh must also reclaim his position as the head and advisor of the National Security Council.

On September 3, Abadi named himself the new Hashd al-Sha'abi head.

The premier’s office announced in a statement that the commander-in-chief of Iraqi forces had visited the command center of the pro-government forces to oversee the situation there.

"He (Abadi) lauded the hero fighters of the Hashd al-Sha’abi, their enormous sacrifices to achieve victory over terrorism in addition to their continued efforts to rebuild and reconstruct the country," the statement added.

It concluded, "He is keen on the rights of the fighters, and is willing to provide them with all forms of support."

Africa Subsaharan
South Africa's largest media house admits it published fake news to discredit opponents of Zuma administration, destroying many lives
This weekend the Sunday Times formally apologised for a series of articles it published over 5 years, naming public officials as being corrupt (or even murderers in some cases).

The stories covered included:

*Officials accused of arranging illegal renditions of Zimbabwean exiles back to Zimbabwe, where they were killed or tortured

*A death squad consisting of senior investigators, who murdered suspects in their care

*Senior tax officials running a black ops unit that included brothels

Turns out, the dozens of people named in these stories were themselves investigating corrupt activities tied to the then-president Jacob Zuma and his business cronies, the Gupta family.

These articles directly resulted in many decent people losing their jobs and careers. And helped ensure billions of dollars in actual corruption was covered up.

The editor of the Sunday Times at the time was Ray Hartley, a super 'woke' white lefty. Ray was warned repeatedly by other journalists, and shown proof that the publication was being fed false information. The stories continued anyway.

The journalists involved were celebrated at the time, won awards and prize money. Several resigned this week and have to return their awards and prize money. Some of their colleagues are suggesting publicly that the tainted journalists took bribes to keep the stories flowing.

To sum up, dozens of professionals had their lives destroyed for trying to do the right thing, and had their reputations ruined in public by these articles.

The Sunday Times has apologised and announced that it will return all awards and prize money received for now discredited reports on the Cato Manor "death squad", the SARS "rogue unit" and Zimbabwean extraditions.

"I believe it is only just and fitting for us to humbly reconsider our decision to accept such prestigious awards," the newspaper's editor, Bongani Siqoko, said in a piece published on Sunday.

"Accepting such accolades will be a negation of a higher journalistic idea.

"It will be for this reason that we will be returning all the awards and the prize money."

Siqoko said that the newspaper had spent time reflecting on the reports in question, which had been published in 2011.

"There was clearly a parallel political project aimed at undermining our democratic values and destroying state institutions and removing individuals who were seen as obstacles to this project," he said.

"We admit that our stories may have been used for this purpose," Siqoko added.

We 'allowed ourselves to be manipulated'

Siqoko said that while the purpose of investigating the stories was always to find out the truth, "something went wrong in the process of gathering the information and reporting".

"What is clear is that we committed mistakes and allowed ourselves to be manipulated by those with ulterior motives."

He said that the paper had not been aware of these political machinations – "but we should have joined the dots. We should have paused and asked more questions".

He said that the paper felt it had "failed SA" in this regard and thus was "deeply" regretful.

Nevertheless, he said that the paper also should not have ignored the stories either. "There was, and is, a middle path that we should have taken."

"We should have reported on these incidents but with caution and care, aware of the hidden hand… at play".

In terms of the reports about a Cato Manor policing unit, Siqoko said that the labelling of it as a 'death squad' was unqualified.

'Rogue elements'

Siqoko also said the articles created an "impression" that then-head of the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal, Johan Booysen, was "directly and personally responsible" for the killings.

Siqoko said that Booysen had told the newspaper he did not have any direct involvement in the unit – and "we have no reason not to accept his version".

On Sunday, the newspaper also published a piece by Booysen in which he outlined how, at the time, he had become aware that "rogue elements within crime intelligence" were meeting with investigative journalists from the Sunday Times.

Booysen said that he had contacted then-editor Ray Hartley and demanded to be given a chance to give his side.

During a meeting, he then explained that many of the allegations were untrue and directed the journalists to channels where further verification could be obtained.

However, the published article presented only the version provided by the other side and made it clear that no further fact checking had been done.

'Investigations were compromised'

Booysen pointed out how even certain photographs accompanying the story were from unrelated incidents.

He said as some of the newspaper's investigative journalists continued to be used by various forces, "the fallout from these invented stories was that dedicated officials within the Hawks and SARS were ostracised, suspended and worked out of the system".

"High level investigations were compromised as detectives and SARS officials were arrested on bogus charges."

Ultimately, said Booysen, "the aftermath of these articles cannot be measured in monetary terms".

"The Hawks and SARS became dysfunctional and lives were ruined."

Yet, Booysen also extended gratitude to Siqoko, "who has shown great courage and leadership to address wrongs that happened under his predecessor's watch".
