-Lurid Crime Tales-
Las Vegas security guard unheard from after visit to urgent-care clinic
[FoxNews] Mystery surrounds whereabouts of Mandalay Bay security guard

Las Vegas guard Jesus Campos vanished after visiting urgent-care clinic.

The Mandalay Bay security guard who disappeared last week moments before he was scheduled to break his silence in television interviews has not been heard from since he went to a walk-in health clinic, his union president said.

David Hickey of the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) told reporters Friday that he got a text the night before saying Jesus Campos was taken to a UMC Quick Care facility, though he did not specify where or whom the text came from.

A spokesperson at the UMC Quick Care, which has eight locations throughout the Las Vegas area, told Fox News on Monday that they had "heard nothing" about Campos visiting them.

Multiple requests from Fox News for SPFPA to comment on the matter were not returned Monday.

Hickey said he was meeting with MGM officials Thursday afternoon in the hours before Campos’ scheduled television appearances, including one with Fox News.

"For the past four days he's been preparing ... we had a meeting with MGM officials, and after that meeting was over, we talked about the interviews, we went to a private area, and when we came out, Mr. Campos was gone," Hickey told reporters, according to Fox 5 Las Vegas.

Hickey said Campos had requested to go public and wanted to tell his story and move on from the Oct. 1 shooting investigation. Police say he was shot just before the crazed gunman killed 58 at music festival on the Las Vegas Strip ‐ though the sequence of events is still in dispute.

Campos was last photographed in public on Oct. 10, accepting an "SPFPA Hero Award" for bravery in the line of duty, while dining with Hickey and others at a high-end Vegas steakhouse. But soon afterward, investigators said that the security guard was shot before the massacre, raising questions about whether the hotel did enough to prevent the bloodshed.

Hickey has said that before he vanished, Campus was looking forward to telling his side of the story.

"Right now I'm just concerned where my member is, and what his condition is. It's highly unusual," Hickey said Friday. "I'm hoping everything is OK with him and I'm sure MGM or the union will let (media) know when we hear something," he said.

Now I'm wondering if Jesus Campos might be the mysterious second person everybody (mostly conspiracy theorists) seems to be talking about?

#6  I am in that group who has strong suspicion that there is much more to this story, and it is possible that Campos is a part of that. But the lack of formal LE effort to find him or support the idea that he is missing says that they know where he is. My guess is that the interviews were stopped by panicked attorneys who see the wave of lawsuit coming and don't want his testimony out there before "trial prep". He is sequestered somewhere and very comfortable I suspect.

FBI uncovered Russian bribery plot before Soetoro approved nuclear deal with Moscow
[The Hill] Before the Obama administration approved a controversial deal in 2010 giving Moscow control of a large swath of American uranium, the FBI had gathered substantial evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering designed to grow Vladimir Putin’s atomic energy business inside the United States, according to government documents and interviews.

Federal agents used a confidential U.S. witness working inside the Russian nuclear industry to gather extensive financial records, make secret recordings and intercept emails as early as 2009 that showed Moscow had compromised an American uranium trucking firm with bribes and kickbacks in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, FBI and court documents show.

They also obtained an eyewitness account ‐ backed by documents ‐ indicating Russian nuclear officials had routed millions of dollars to the U.S. designed to benefit former President Bill Clinton’s charitable foundation during the time Secretary of State Hillary Clinton served on a government body that provided a favorable decision to Moscow, sources told The Hill.

The racketeering scheme was conducted "with the consent of higher level officials" in Russia who "shared the proceeds" from the kickbacks, one agent declared in an affidavit years later.

Rather than bring immediate charges in 2010, however, the Department of Justice (DOJ) continued investigating the matter for nearly four more years, essentially leaving the American public and Congress in the dark about Russian nuclear corruption on U.S. soil during a period when the Obama administration made two major decisions benefitting Putin’s commercial nuclear ambitions.

The first decision occurred in October 2010, when the State Department and government agencies on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States unanimously approved the partial sale of Canadian mining company Uranium One to the Russian nuclear giant Rosatom, giving Moscow control of more than 20 percent of America’s uranium supply.

When this sale was used by Trump on the campaign trail last year, Hillary Clinton’s spokesman said she was not involved in the committee review and noted the State Department official who handled it said she "never intervened ... on any [Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States] matter."

In 2011, the administration gave approval for Rosatom’s Tenex subsidiary to sell commercial uranium to U.S. nuclear power plants in a partnership with the United States Enrichment Corp. Before then, Tenex had been limited to selling U.S. nuclear power plants reprocessed uranium recovered from dismantled Soviet nuclear weapons under the 1990s Megatons to Megawatts peace program.

Skipping a few paras to the closing and epitome of hypocrisy.

Former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), who chaired the House Intelligence Committee during the time the FBI probe was being conducted, told The Hill that he had never been told anything about the Russian nuclear corruption case even though many fellow lawmakers had serious concerns about the Obama administration’s approval of the Uranium One deal.

“Not providing information on a corruption scheme before the Russian uranium deal was approved by U.S. regulators and engage appropriate congressional committees has served to undermine U.S. national security interests by the very people charged with protecting them,” he said. “The Russian efforts to manipulate our American political enterprise is breathtaking.”

Yes, that would be the same Congressman Mike Rogers, head of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) who 'slow walked' (some use the term 'obstructed') Congressman Trey Gowdy's investigation of Benghazi. Probably little more than a coincidence.

Malta journalist death: Caruana Galizia's son denounces 'mafia state'
[BBC] The son of an investigative journalist killed in a car bomb attack in Malta has denounced what he called the country's "mafia state".

Daphne Caruana Galizia, 53, died in an explosion shortly after she left her home in Bidnija, near Mosta, on Monday.

She was known for her blog accusing top politicians of corruption.

"My mother was assassinated because she stood between the rule of law and those who sought to violate it," said her son Matthew, who was close to the blast.

In a lengthy Facebook post published hours after he attempted to save his mother from the burning vehicle, he accused Maltese police of incompetence and the government of "impunity".

"When the institutions of the state are incapacitated, the last person left standing is often a journalist," wrote Matthew Caruana Galizia, who is also a journalist.
He also took aim at Malta's projected image as a liberal Western nation.

"Yes, this is where we are: a mafia state where you can now change your gender on your ID card (thank God for that!) but where you will be blown to pieces for exercising your basic freedoms," he said.

Cornell Black Students group apologizes for complaining about African and Caribbean students
[LI] Selected excerpt:
Most interesting, and perhaps reflecting a split in the black student community, the group demands specific extra help for non-immigrant blacks:

"We demand that Cornell Admissions to come up with a plan to actively increase the presence of underrepresented Black students on this campus. We define underrepresented Black students as Black Americans who have several generations (more than two) in this country.

The Black student population at Cornell disproportionately represents international or first-generation African or Caribbean students. While these students have a right to flourish at Cornell, there is a lack of investment in Black students whose families were affected directly by the African Holocaust in America. Cornell must work to actively support students whose families have been impacted for generations by white supremacy and American fascism."

Four GOP Senators Standing in the Way of Progress

POTUS dismantles Soetoro's ‘imperial' presidency, rescinds dubious orders
[Wash Times] Democrats are attacking President Trump for "dismantling" President Obama’s legacy on everything from Obamacare subsidies to immigration amnesty, but nobody knew better than Mr. Obama.

At a Clinton campaign rally in Cleveland in October 2016, a few weeks before Election Day, Mr. Obama tried to fire up Democratic voters with a plea that his legacy was hanging in the balance on issues such as climate change and health care.

“I’m here to tell you that all that progress goes out the window if we don’t make the right choice right now,” Mr. Obama said at the time. “Donald Trump’s closing argument is ‘What do you have to lose?’ The answer is: Everything. All the progress we’ve made right now is on the ballot.”

Among the actions Mr. Trump has taken since Jan. 20 are pulling the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement (a U.N. accord never ratified by Congress), revoking deportation amnesty for young illegal immigrants called “Dreamers” (to Republicans’ complaints that he was exceeding his authority, Mr. Obama dared lawmakers: “Pass a bill”), decertifying the Iran nuclear deal (and requesting more congressional input), ending government subsidy payments to insurance companies under Obamacare (never approved by Congress), and rolling back about 800 other Obama-era government regulations on a broad front, including portions of the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulatory law.

Asked at an impromptu news conference Monday if there were any Obama policies he would like to keep, Mr. Trump replied, “Not too many, I must say. It’s the opposite side of the spectrum.

Air Force Punishes Colonel Who Refused to Affirm Gaystopo Marriage
[Townhall] The Air Force has punished a highly-decorated and respected colonel after he refused to publicly affirm the same-sex spouse of a retiring subordinate.

Col. Leland Bohannon, who was on the verge of being promoted to a one-star general, was suspended from command and orders were handed down recommending he not be promoted.

"His career is likely over and he will likely have to retire as a colonel instead of as a general," First Liberty Institute attorney Michael Berry told the Todd Starnes Show.

First Liberty Institute, one of the nation’s most prominent religious liberty law firms, is representing the distinguished military officer.

"This sends a clear message - if you do not have the politically correct viewpoint, you are not welcome in the military," Berry said. "The military is no longer a place of diversity and inclusion if you are a person who holds to a traditional belief on marriage."

Col. Bohannon has flown combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan and he is the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal.

Last May the colonel declined to sign a certificate of spouse appreciation for a retiring master sergeant’s same-sex spouse.

Iraq
Iraq seizes Kirkuk from Kurds leaving two US allies locked in conflict and bringing end to move for independence
[Independent] Elite Iraqi security forces have captured the Kurdish government headquarters buildings in the centre of Kirkuk with the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi ordering the Iraqi flag to be raised over Kirkuk and other disputed territories. An Iraqi Oil Ministry official said that it would be "a very short time" before the Iraqi military seized all the oilfields in Kirkuk province.

The century-old movement for Kurdish independence has suffered a calamitous defeat as Iraqi military forces retake the Kirkuk oil province, facing little resistance so far from the Peshmerga fighters. Kurdish officials accuse part of the forces belonging to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), one of the two main Kurdish parties, of "treason" in not resisting the Iraqi assault.

Iraqi Kurdish dreams of achieving real independence depended on controlling the oil wealth of Kirkuk which is now lost to them, probably forever. Such autonomy as they did have will be curtailed, with Turkey announcing that it will hand over control of the border gate between Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan to the central government in Baghdad.

#5  Figures. The Kurds were built up in the media as giant killers, but they've never really been all that. They were stomped by ISIS, same as everyone else. The media likes them because they're somewhat secular. But they've always needed, like the Shiites, serious air support to get anywhere. Just after 9/11, even the ramshackle Northern Alliance managed to rout the Taliban, with B-52 strikes leading the way.

Frankly, without Russian and American air strikes, Syria and Iraq would be ISIS-ruled today. ISIS's only problem would be getting hold of new military aircraft.
Posted by: Zhang Fei || 10/17/2017 15:37 Comments || Top||

#6  Basically we need the Kurds to conquer Syria so they have access to the sea and have at least one peaceful border (with Israel). As is they really are geographically screwed.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 10/17/2017 17:58 Comments || Top||

#7  They can't conquer Syria. We can. But do we want to fight Turkey for the privilege of doing so? Even carving out a corridor to the sea would be a major undertaking in the face of Turkish opposition. The other problem is Kurdish fecklessness. In a quarter century of de facto independence, Iraqi Kurdish has evolved into an economic basket case. Do we really want to carry them for the rest of eternity? If you join KRG to the PYD/PKK, you have a broken Iraqi Kurd economy joined to a Syrian Kurd Marxist economy. Exactly how is this a viable economy short of endless US subsidies?

Forgetting the economic aspects, how about the Kurds simply showed some fight? Last I heard, they're getting chased out of Kirkuk. The Iraqi army took 9 months to overrun Mosul, with major US air support. We are days into the Iraqi invasion of Kirkuk, and already the Kurds are getting rolled back, even without US air support for the Iraqis. The principal difference between the Shiites and the Kurds is journos ran interference, PR-wise, for the Kurds, because the Kurds aren't holy rollers.

[Daily Caller] President Donald Trump expects to nominate a total of four Supreme Court justices, claiming that three seats will likely become vacant during his first term, anonymous sources told Mike Allen of Axios.

Trump expects to fill the seats of Justices Anthony Kennedy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Sonia Sotomayor in addition to nominating Neil Gorsuch, who Trump nominated to fill former Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat earlier this year. Scalia died in 2016, well before Trump took office.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Then FBI Director Comey began drafting Clinton statement months in advance
[The Hill] Comey began drafting Clinton statement months in advance FBI Director James Comey apparently began drafting his statement about Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server months before his July 2016 announcement that the FBI would not recommend charges, according to a document posted by the FBI Monday.

The only visible content in the posted document is an unclassified email from FBI official James Rybicki, who asks officials in mid-May to "please send any comments on this statement so we may roll it into a master doc for discussion with the Director at a future date."

Rybicki's email forwarded a redacted email from the FBI chief on May 16, 2016 with the subject line "Midyear Exam." The Comey email he forwarded was dated May 2, 2016.
Newsweek first highlighted the document's release on Monday.

Comey, however, would not publicly make his recommendation to not press charges against Clinton until July 2016. In his public statement, though, he also sharply criticized the then-Democratic presidential candidate and her colleagues for being "extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information."

Egyptian attacker arrested for scarring female victim in ‘revenge attack’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A 38-year-old sexual harasser carried out a Dire Revenge attack on his former female victim this weekend in Cairo by scarring her face using a "cutter," local media reports have said.

The shocking harassment story of Somaya Tarek Obeid sent waves across the Egyptian society two years ago when a stranger physically assaulted her at a Cairo mall, receiving a two-year imprisonment as a result.

But upon his release, the harasser reportedly followed Obeid as she walked down a street in an upscale Cairo district this weekend, vowing to take Dire Revenge.

An official medical report said 25-year-old Obeid was admitted to the hospital with a 20 cm long facial wound caused by a white weapon.

The victim recounted that she was present at the area of Korba when she was attacked by her the same man who harassed her two years ago at the mall.

The attacker is currently under police arrest and investigations are underway.

Obeid accuses the harasser of attempting to kill her, saying his intention was to cut through her neck.

Obeid topped Egyptian headlines two years ago when the same man was caught on camera slapping her twice in a mall. The incident caused lots of controversy at the time and landed him two years in jail. She is known in Egyptian media as the "mall girl".

Durbin: If Democrats ‘Overdo It’ by Being too Liberal, We Can Lose to Trump
[FREEBEACON] Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin
...Senator-for-Life from Illinois and Democratic Party Whip. In April 2006, Time magazine identified Durbin as one of America's 10 Best Senators, so what's that tell you? He was the first United States Senator to support the presidential candidacy of Barack Obama, then the junior senator from Illinois....
(D., Ill.) said in a radio interview on Sunday that Democrats can lose to President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
in 2020 if they "overdo it" by becoming too liberal.

Durbin was asked on a local reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
radio program about comments from Rep. Cheri Bustos (D., Ill.), who warned fellow Democrats that Trump would be reelected if the party becomes too liberal.

CNN news hound Andrew Kaczynski was first to report on Durbin's comments.

"We need to be balanced," Durbin said on "Connected to Chicago" on WLS-AM. "She's right about that. And as downstater like her, I understand she represents a challenging district. We don't give up on our values, but we better be sensitive too that there are people with more moderate views, and people who may disagree with some parts of the Democratic platform as they as they are presented. We've got to be open to that possibility."

The radio host asked if Democrats could lose by "being too liberal."

"You can," Durbin said. "I think you can overdo it. We have to really appeal to that sensible center. It's a thin stripe now. It used to be a lot wider stripe, but it's an important and determining factor in most elections."

The number two Democrat in the Senate warned fellow Democrats not to underestimate Trump like they did in 2016.

Durbin's comments came about six months after he said on CNN that the Democratic Party is only for individuals who support the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade abortion decision as a matter of policy.

"We need to be understanding of those who take a different position, because of personal conscience, but as long as they are prepared to back the law, Roe v. Wade, prepared to back women's rights as we've defined them under the law, then I think they can be part of the party," he said in April.

More recently, Durbin questioned the faith of federal judicial nominee Amy Coney Barrett, a professor at Notre Dame Law School, during her confirmation hearing, asking if she considers herself an "orthodox Catholic."

...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...

At least four missiles were fired during the strike in the Kurram Agency close to the Afghan border, said the officials.

"Five people have been killed in a dronezap on a suspected Death Eater's house," an intelligence official told AFP. A local administration official also confirmed the toll.

The dronezap was reported days after the Pakistain Army said that it had recovered "safe and sound" a family of foreign hostages from the custody of a terrorist outfit after it received and acted on intelligence shared by the United States (US).

On Monday, one official claimed that the target was a suspected Death Eater Abu Bakar, commander of the Haqqani network.

Houthis reinforce line near Taiz
Taiz- Militia sources in Yemen said that coup factions have stepped up their weaving of landmines into the southwestern villages near Taiz. The increase in mine-planting activity comes after suffering steep losses in the battlefield.

On the other hand, a pro-government military source belonging to the 35th Armored Brigade said that insurgency militias continued to plant mines across civilian infrastructure, such as farms, residential neighborhoods, and near water wells.

Al-Houd, Al-Sayyar, Al-Sharaf villages and the Othman Bin Affan School in Al-Houd, were among areas targeted.

The source further stressed that national army units pushed against attempts for coup militias to advance into the city of Taiz and the countryside.

Most attempts were staged to progress and restore sites lost east and northwest of the city.

The source added that Houthi-planted mines have killed 9 civilians, including two women and three children, in August alone.

Last Friday, the mines killed a citizen named Saif al-Qamri, and wounded four women in the area of Hamli, west of Taiz.

Planting mines increased fiercely in retaliation to Zaid bin Ali al-Sharfi, a senior Houthi field commander, being killed in the fierce battles between militias and the Yemeni armed forces in the north-western frontier of Harad.

The statement issued by the Media Center of the fifth military region underlined that the leader of the Houthi militia, Zaid bin Ali Sharfi was killed on Friday evening, in the battles between the forces of the National Army on the one hand and Houthi, Saleh militias on the other near the border frontier of Harad.

The center quoted military sources as saying that the corpse of Sharfi is still laying in the Harad desert as the militias were unable to retrieve their dead due to fierce ongoing battles.

The statement said that the arms officer in the warehouse of the Midi Front and the leader of the Houthi militia, Waleed Mohammed Ahmed al-Houthi, was also killed along with four other Houthi leaders in an air raid by the Arab coalition east of Midi.

Hillary Clinton: Misogyny is 'endemic'
Dear Gawd! Day in and day out all the way through the election, now day out until the end of time!
[CNN] Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
slammed what she called "endemic" sexism and misogyny in America during an interview with Fareed Zakaria, which aired Sunday.

Clinton, who was interviewed by Zakaria on his show, "GPS," said sexism was so inherent that she purposely hadn't highlighted her career history of fighting for women's rights when she ran for president in 2016. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
she admitted that with the benefit of hindsight, she "could have tried harder" to do so.

"I'm a middle-class girl from the middle of the country, and so I always struggled with like, OK, so what's my story. And it suddenly dawned on me that I was the beneficiary of these radical changes in, you know, women's rights and opportunities that began in the '60s and continue and that I could have and maybe should have tried harder to tell that story," she conceded.

If you want to see REAL sexism and misogyny, you need only look at how the Democrats treated Sarah Palin in 2008 (and since), and how they're treating the Trump family women today.

No, Hillary, you didn't lose the election because of sexism or misogyny; you lost because enough people (thank God) correctly figured you for a compulsive liar, as genuine as a $3 bill, a finger-wagging, irritating scold, a shrill harpy, a termagant, and an all-around nasty bitch. in a statement said the latest festivities erupted in Wazir Tankai area of Khogyani district in the past 24 hours.

The statement further added that six ISIS turbans and three Taliban faceless myrmidons were killed in the latest festivities.

At least three Taliban faceless myrmidons were also maimed during the festivities, the provincial government added.

In the meantime, the Nangarhar government said the loyalists of the ISIS terrorist group also killed four civilians in a separate attack in this province.

The anti-government armed bad boy groups including the Taliban and ISIS loyalists have not commented regarding the recent incidents so far.

This comes as the leader of the Taliban earlier called on his commanders and leaders to reach to a ceasefire with the ISIS turbans in Afghanistan and refrain from further infighting with the group.

7 die as Bad Guys knock over Sinai bank
EL-ARISH, Egypt: In a brazen daytime attack, about a dozen militants robbed a local bank, lobbed grenades and traded gunfire with security forces guarding an unused church in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Monday, killing seven people, including three civilians, officials said.

The militants drove into the city center of El-Arish in the morning then split into two groups. One group traded gunfire with the guards outside the Church of Saint George, security and military officials said. Services at the church were suspended months ago, following a wave of attacks on Christians in Sinai.

The church attack was meant as a distraction from the bank, where the second group of militants first shot and killed the bank guards, then stormed in and emptied its safe. The heavy security and military forces deployed in the city put up little resistance.

The attacks left three civilians, including a child, three guards and one soldier dead and wounded another 15 people, including women and children, the officials said.

The two groups of attackers were caught on camera while fleeing the site of the clashes in a stolen pickup and three motorcycles.

“They looted the entire bank and left explosive devices inside,” a senior security official said. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Egypt’s state news agency MENA confirmed that three policemen were killed in an armed attack on the bank in El-Arish.

Bomb kills reporter who covered Malta’s ‘Panama Papers’ link
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Maltese investigative journalist who exposed her island nation’s links to offshore tax havens through the leaked Panama Papers was killed Monday when a bomb went kaboom! in her car, Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said.

Daphne Caruana Galizia, 53, had just driven away from her home in Mosta, a town outside Malta’s capital of Valletta, when the bomb went off, sending the vehicle’s wreckage spiraling over a wall and into a field.

Muscat says Caruana Galizia’s death resulted from a "barbaric attack" that also amounted to an assault on freedom of expression. He described her as "was one of my harshest critics, on a political and personal level," as he denounced her slaying.

Politico named Caruana Galizia as one of 28 Europeans who are "shaping, shaking and stirring" Europe. She revealed that Muscat’s wife, Michelle, as well as Muscat’s energy minister and the government’s chief-of-staff, held companies in Panama by looking into the 2016 document leak. Muscat and his wife deny they held such companies.

PML-N MPA’s son manhandles THQ hospital medical superintendent
[DAWN] NAROWAL: The son of a PML-N MPA and his lover companions allegedly manhandled the medical superintendent (MS) of Shakargarh Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in presence of the police for not signing purchase slip for medicines.

Riazuddin, son of Ghyasuddin, the MPA from PP-133 Shakargarh, went to THQ Hospital to get medicines for a woman patient. The medicines were not available at the hospital and he asked MS Dr Muhammad Tariq to give him a purchase slip to get medicine.

The MS refused to do so as the medicines were costly. At this, the MS and Riazuddin exchanged harsh words and started quarreling with each other. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
later on orders of Narowal district health authority’s chief executive officer, Dr Tariq issued the purchase slip to Riazuddin and he went away.

Shakargarh police also reached the hospital. Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
Riazuddin again came back to the MS’s office with his lover companions and beat him up in presence of the police. Riaz and his lover companions also manhandled a news hound of a news channel who wanted to get footage of the incident.

Shakargarh City Police Station has started the paperwork but haven't done much else against Riazuddin on complaint of Dr Tariq.

Narowal District Health Authority’s CEO Dr Khalid Javed condemned the incident, saying an inquiry would be held into the incident and the responsible persons would be brought to justice.

Drone strikes target ISIS training camps in Yemen
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Unmanned aerial drones struck two ISIS training camps in central Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
for the first time in the country's conflict, leaving an unknown number of dead, security sources told AFP Monday.

Witnesses said villagers were prevented by tribal leaders from approaching the area and retrieving the dead and maimed for fear of additional strikes.

Locals said the camps, both in Bayda province, were named after prominent ISIS figures: Yemen chief Abu Bilal al-Harbi and former global front man Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, killed last summer in a US air strike.

This is the first time security sources loyal to Yemen's internationally recognized government have announced raids against ISIS footholds.

ISIS and its myrmidon rival al-Qaeda have taken advantage of a conflict between the government and Houthi myrmidons, who control the capital Sanaa, to bolster their presence across much of the south.

ISIS, however, has risen to prominence in the country's civil war targeting both army recruits of the government and Yemeni Shiites, which it considers heretics.

It entered the war in March 2015 with a series of attacks on Shiite mosques in the capital, leaving more than 140 people dead.

The group's last major attack was a suicide kaboom in the government stronghold of Aden last December, which killed 48 soldiers.

Al-Qaeda has distanced itself from ISIS attacks, claiming that it seeks to avoid "the shedding of any Moslem blood" while focusing on fighting the "Americans and their allies."

Iraqi forces seize territory from Kurds in independence dispute
[DAWN] Iraqi forces seized a key military base, an airport and an oil field from Kurdish fighters on Monday in disputed Kirkuk province in a major operation sparked by a controversial independence referendum.

The offensive, which follows weeks of soaring tensions between two US allies in the battle against the murderous Moslem Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (IS) group, aims to retake oil and military sites that Kurdish forces took over during the fightback against the fighters .

Thousands of residents were seen fleeing Kurdish-controlled Kirkuk city, according to an AFP journalist.

Iraqi and Kurdish peshmerga forces exchanged artillery fire early Monday south of the capital of the oil-rich province, after the launch of the operation overnight which triggered a spike in oil prices on world markets.

But after the initial festivities Iraqi forces made rapid progress, suggesting Kurdish fighters were withdrawing with little or no resistance.

Iraq's Joint Operations Command said its forces had retaken the K1 military base northwest of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
the military airport east of the city and the Baba Gargar oil field, one of six in the disputed region.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Judge refuses to throw out case against Menendez
[MYSANANTONIO] In a big defeat for Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez, the judge at his corruption trial Monday refused to throw out any of the charges against him in light of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling narrowing the definition of bribery.

The decision by U.S. District Judge Williams Walls was a major victory for federal prosecutors, who had warned that dismissing the charges would torpedo nearly all other bribery cases and open the door wide to graft.

Walls rejected defense lawyers' arguments that the allegations against Menendez didn't meet the new, narrower definition of bribery under the 2016 Supreme Court ruling that reversed the conviction of Republican former Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia. In recent months, the McDonnell ruling led judges to throw out bribery convictions of at least three other former public officials, including a former Louisiana congressman.

Just days ago, the judge in Menendez's case appeared to be leaning toward a ruling in the senator's favor.

Hillary Clinton defends kneeling NFL players, says 'that's not against our anthem or flag'
[FOXNEWS] Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
on Sunday defended NFL players who knelt during the national anthem, saying kneeling is a "reverent" position that is not against "our anthem or our flag."

The former Democratic presidential candidate, who was at the Southbank Centre's London Literature Festival, urged Democrats to use the issue against President Trump.

Clinton was embarking on a foreign trip to promote her book "What Happened."

She said people should resist "what are very clear dog-whistles" to the Trump base, pointing to the example of kneeling NFL players.

"That's what black athletes kneeling was all about," she said in response to a question about ways to resist the White House. "That's not against our anthem or our flag."

"Actually, kneeling is a reverent position," she continued. "It was to demonstrate in a peaceful way against racism and injustice in our criminal system."

Iraq
Iraqi forces attack Kurd positions in Ninevah
Bashiqa (IraqiNews.com) An informed Kurdish military source has indicated intentions of the Iraqi troops as well as the Shia-led paramilitary troops to attack two regions near Mosul after midnight.

“Confirmed news received by Peshmerga from official authorities showed the intentions of both the Iraqi army and al-Hashd al-Shaabi [Popular Mobilization Forces] to attack Bashiqa and Khazer regions, who are under Peshmerga’s control,” the source told Alghad Press on Monday.

“PMFs leaders informed Peshmerga about intentions to advance toward Bashiqa and Khazer without waging war or fights against Peshmerga,: the source said. “Peshmerga responded saying that the regions will not be handed over, despite orders were made by the supreme command in Kurdistan.”

Bashiqa is located northeast of Mosul, while Khazer is on the road linking Mosul and Erbil.

Iraqi troops managed to gain control on wide regions in Kirkuk. Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi gave orders, early on the day, to security troops to protect all citizens in Kirkuk. The Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) then announced that Iraqi troops advanced to seize the oilfields in the province.

Southeast Asia
Terror leaders Hapilon (Abu Sayyaf), Maute (Maute Group) gunned down in Marawi
[CNN] Two key ISIS-affiliated leaders engaged in a standoff with Philippine security forces in Marawi have been killed. The two leaders were named as Isnilon Hapilon, who was declared the IS emir for southeast Asia, and Omar Maute, a leader of a local militant group that had pledged allegiance to ISIS.

The pair were killed, along with seven other rebels, while attempting to exit a building at street level during a four-hour gun battle, General Eduardo Ano said at a news conference. Maute was shot in the head by a sniper. Their bodies were positively identified by a former hostage, Ano said.

The deaths of both Hapilon and Maute will likely hasten the retreat of Maute militants from Marawi, according to security analyst Richard Heydarian. He said, "The political and military leadership of the ISIS movement (in the Philippines) has essentially been neutralized."

There are still 22 hostages and eight foreign militants remaining, according to Ano.

The death of Hapilon and Omar Maute may come to signal the final stage of the protracted and destructive standoff in Marawi, but it's feared that fighters could resort to traditional types of terror attacks -- a possibility President Duterte warned of Wednesday.

Duterte said,"They will not disappear. They will regroup anywhere and everywhere. Be patient. This terrorism inspired by IS will not go in about seven to 10 years ... terrorism is a deadly movement to confront us and our children. Your children will encounter this. It will reach your retirement age. So just be prepared for that."

It resulted in the confiscation of arounsd 137 bags and a number of iron boxes containing the documents and holdings of Sheikh Sultan, as well as the large holdings and archives of his father, former Foreign Minister Suhaim bin Hamad Al Thani, which constitutes a wealth of information and political value, and accurately records the history of Qatar

In a previous invasion violation of privacy, state security agents stormed the private room of Sheikh Mina al-Dosari, the widow of Sheikh Suhaim and the mother of Sheikh Sultan, and confiscated all her personal and family pictures, as well as all her jewelry, valuables and money. During the three operations, minors were subjected to assault, beatings and arrest. The other Sudanese workers were beaten and detained for eight hours. Until now, all the minors in the palace are being held in a specific area and prevented from leaving. The minors from inside are under the full control of state security officers.

In one testimony received by Sky News, the assault squad was dealing violently with tools to break doors and locks.

Sky News reported that Qatari authorities froze all accounts of Sheikh Sultan and seized his seals, sukuks and commercial contracts, posing a risk of falsifying and damaging them at all levels. The pictures and sections of Sheikh Muna are a flagrant violation of their privacy.

This is the second operation in a week after the freezing of the accounts and property of Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali al-Thani.

Iraq
Was it the Kurds who brought foreigners to Iraq?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] We are on the verge of a new civil war in Iraq between the Kurds and Baghdad’s authority, which is dominated by Shiite parties. The sectarian part of the war will be between the Kurdish Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization while on another hand it will be between the Iraqi army forces and Kurdistan’s army.

The line of fire, which may spark festivities, is the Kirkuk front, the Iraqi city known for its petroleum and mixed identity as the Kurds insist that it is Kurdish and belongs to the Kurdistan region.

Baghdad is using the constitution as a pretext to confirm that the Kurds, led by Masoud Barzani, violated the constitution and created a de facto power base. Baghdad concluded that the independence referendum is worthless and unconstitutional.

Baghdad has Arab and Islamic regional and international support while Erbil stands alone due to Barzani’s stubborn decision to hold the referendum. What’s interesting though is the argument brought up by the Iraqi authority regarding the Kirkuk battle.

The Iraqi authority reproached the Kurds, and we wish it reproached them for something shameful! They said Erbil resorted to imported muscle from the Kurdistan’s Workers Party and this, according to the Ministerial Council for National Security’s statement, amounts to "dragging the country to domestic fighting to achieve the aim of fragmenting Iraq and the region to establish a state on ethnic basis." Baghdad’s statement also accused Iraq’s Kurds of "seeking to make demographic changes."

The Iraqi Kurds
How are the Iraqi Kurds supposed to respond to these accusations? An official of the Kurdistan Region Security Council said the Popular Mobilization forces who stand at the gates of Kirkuk and threaten the Peshmerga consist of Shiite factions supported by Iran.

The right thing to do here is to look into what led to the current disastrous situation instead of standing still at the present moment! Yes, Baghdad’s government is right about wanting to maintain the constitution and protect Iraq’s unity and it is right about rejecting the Iraqi Kurds’ move of seeking the help of an armed Kurdish-Ottoman Turkish group ‐Erbil of course denies this accusation.

However what about the philosophy and doctrine of the so-called Popular Mobilization in Iraq? Who are they? Where do they derive their ideology from and who trains them? What about Qais Khazali, Aws al-Khafaji, Hadi al-Amiri and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis?

What is the nature of the link between the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the Quds Brigade, under Qassem Soleimani’s command, to these bully boy formations? What about protecting the sense of Iraqi patriotism that is not flavored with sectarian chants? This is the point and this is what led the Kurds to say what they said and do what they did.

IRIB reported that Revolutionary Guard Major General Abdullah Khosrawi died in Syria on Saturday after going there "to defend the shrines of Ahl al-Bayt."

1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

government on Monday dismissed Additional Advocate General Khawar Ikram Bhatti for reportedly slapping a police officer outside an accountability court in Islamabad, DawnNews reported.

A notification issued by Punjab Law Secretary Dr Syed Abul Hassan Najmi said that "the competent authority... [has] dispensed with the services of [Bhatti] with immediate effect".

Earlier, Justice Ebadur Rehman Lodhi refused to let Bhatti appear before the Lahore High Court, saying that "it did not suit state lawyers to assault a police officer".

Lodhi also accused Bhatti of being politically motivated and said that a state lawyer should serve the state instead of a political party.

On Saturday, a group of lawyers associated with the PML-N had forcibly tried to enter an accountability court, where former premier's daughter Maryam Nawaz and her husband Muhammad Safdar had appeared for the hearing of a corruption case against them.

On being stopped by the coppers posted outside the court, the lawyers assaulted the official.

Later that day, a case against the group of lawyers was registered after Inspector Shakeel Ahmed of the Diplomatic Protection Department filed a complaint regarding the incident.

‘JUI-F creating hurdles to Fata-KP merger’
[DAWN] All Fata Students Forum on Sunday alleged that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
was working on an agenda of someone else to keep the tribal people deprived of their due rights and urged the federal government to ensure merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa at the earliest.

Speaking at a presser at Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
Press Club, the forum chairman Farhad Ali said that the JUI-F’s recent convention on Fata issues had failed as majority of the participants belonged to settled districts who had nothing to do with the merger issue.

Mr Ali was flanked by Insaf Students Federation president Akhtar Gul, Islami Jamaat Talba focal person Waseem Haider, Khyber Youth Forum’s Aamir Afridi and Kuram Students Organisation president Mohammad Saleem.

He appreciated MNAs Shah Jee Gul, Shahabuddin and Sajid Turi and Senator Sajjad Turi for their efforts for the Fata-KP merger. He said that the students of Fata were determined to continue their struggle for implementation of the reforms.

The forum decided that it would intensify the ongoing struggle for merger of the tribal region with KP province. It proposed that a new committee should be constituted to expedite the reforms process in the tribal region.

Trump Dossier Firm Says It Won’t Comply With House Subpoenas
[DAILYCALLER] Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the infamous Trump dossier, says it will not comply with subpoenas for documents and testimony issued earlier this month by the House Intelligence Committee.
Fine, send them all to Marian, IL for six months to ponder their decision.
In a Monday letter to the committee, Fusion’s attorneys argue that the subpoena, which seeks testimony from three of the firm’s partners, violates its First Amendment privileges and would force it to break attorney-client privilege and its contractual obligations.
So the company's identical with its lawyers, and any conspiracy is covered by the first amendment? It sounds like a stretch.
The lawyer, Josh Levy, also argued that forcing Fusion GPS to comply with the subpoenas would "chill any American running for office" from conducting political opposition research.
Aha! The old "chilling effect" argument!
Fusion GPS began investigating Trump in September 2015 at the financial discretion of an unidentified Republican donor who opposed the real estate billionaire. After Trump won the GOP nomination, an unidentified Democratic ally of Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
’s hired Fusion. Fusion then hired former British spy Remington Christopher Steele to investigate Trump. The result is the dossier, which remains largely uncorroborated.

"We cannot in good conscience do anything but advise our clients to stand on their constitutional privileges, the attorney work product doctrine and contractual obligations," Levy, the Fusion lawyer, wrote to Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Rep. Devin Nunes, the committee’s Republican chairman. Business Insider first reported details of the letter.

Since the investigation is in the House it pretty much tells you how it's going to end.

‘Chelsea bomber’ convicted of attack that injured dozens
[NYPOST] A homegrown Islamic terrorist was convicted Monday of detonating do-it-yourself time bombs in Manhattan and New Jersey last year ‐ setting him up for a mandatory sentence of life in a federal prison.

A Manhattan federal jury found Ahmad Khan Rahimi,
...incorrectly named in news reports in the early days of his adventures as Ahmad Khan Rahami. The Guardian reported he spent time in a religious seminary in Pakistain closely associated with the Afghan Taliban.....
29, guilty as charged on eight counts following a two-week trial over the twin blasts in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and in Seaside Park, N.J,. on Sept. 17, 2016.

"Rahimi’s crimes of hate have been met with swift and resolute justice," acting Manhattan US Attorney Joon Kim said in a prepared statement.

"Today’s verdict is a victory for New York City, a victory for America in its fight against terror, and a victory for all who believe in the cause of justice."

The feds alleged that Rahimi’s Internet searches and writing found in notebook he kept showed he was obsessed with the late Osama bin Laden
... who used to be alive but now he's not...
, al Qaeda and ISIS, but the Elizabeth, N.J., resident ‐ who immigrated from Afghanistan at age 7 ‐ wasn’t accused of formal ties to any terrorist groups.

The fiend remained dead-eyed composed as he heard the verdict against him, which followed less than four hours of deliberations over two days, and tried in vain to make eye contact with members of the eight-man, four-woman jury.

He then chatted and chuckled with his defense lawyer as Judge Richard Berman met in the jury room with the panel.

Laughter from the group was heard through the door in the courtroom.

As he left the courtroom, the jury’s foreman said: "It’s never easy to part of something like this."

Berman scheduled sentencing for January 18. Rahimi has been tossed in the slammer
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
without bond since his arrest following a bloody shootout with cops in Linden, N.J.

Defense lawyer Sabrina Shroff said she would seek a sentence of less than life on counts 1 through 6, on hopes that an appeals court overturns the remaining counts, which carry mandatory life sentences.

No one was injured by Rahimi’s first blast ‐ in Seaside Park ‐ because the bomb went kaboom! ahead of a charity race that had been delayed.

But the pressure-cooker bomb he later planted on West 23rd Street injured dozens of people and caused millions of dollars in property damage.

A third device, left on West 27th Street, didn’t go off ‐ and Rahimi’s lawyer last week threw the prosecution for a loop when she told the jury it was because Rahimi got cold feet after hearing the blast on West 23rd Street.

In a bid to dramatically reduce Rahimi’s chance of spending the rest of his life in prison, she asked the jury to acquit him of three counts tied to the unwent kaboom! device.

The feds tied Rahimi to the attacks through purchases he made at Home Depot and on eBay for parts used to make the bombs, as well as through fingerprint and DNA evidence.

Victims of the West 23rd Street bombing offered dramatic testimony, with Chelsea resident Cort Cheek describing a "double boom" so loud "it was like the end of the world."

The feds also played dozens of damning surveillance videos that showed Rahimi walking around Manhattan while pulling a pair of roller suitcases, each of which held a homemade bomb.

Bergdahl pleads guilty to desertion; sentencing on 23 Oct
[NYTimes] FORT BRAGG, N.C. ‐ Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who walked off his base in eastern Afghanistan in 2009, setting off a huge military manhunt and a political furor, pleaded guilty on Monday to desertion and to endangering the American troops sent to search for him...It will now be up to an Army judge here at Fort Bragg to decide the sergeant's punishment, following testimony at a hearing that is scheduled to begin next week. The desertion charge carries a potential five-year sentence, and the charge of endangering troops; formally known as misbehavior before the enemy; carries a potential life sentence.

In a military courtroom here on Monday morning, Sergeant Bergdahl stood before the judge, Col. Jeffery A. Nance, and described his [Bergdahl's] actions as inexcusable.....

After he [Bergdahl] was freed [in exchange for 5 hard core terrorists], President Obama's national security adviser, Susan Rice, said Sergeant Bergdahl, who was promoted while in captivity, had served with "honor and distinction," and Mr. Obama appeared with his parents at the White House...

#7  The fact that Obama traded the Taliban's equivalent of Chief of Staff and Minister of Intelligence (Fazl and Wasiq) for this confessed criminal and deserter is stunning...and then holds the deserter up as a hero in the rose garden ceremony.

Fazl is a legitimate war criminal that ordered the killing of thousands...and was responsible for the murder of Mike Spann.

This is a failure of Bush as well - the military commissions should have convicted Fazl long ago.

Arabia
Who is driving Qatar into suffocating, costly isolation?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A top Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
i investor in Doha Stock Exchange recently appeared on al-Jazeera television channel to reassure Qatari and foreign investors that the stock situation is alright. This has come following the news of many investors exiting the market as they feared a dark future especially that the quartet’s boycott is still on and there are little indications of it ending soon.

The investor, Jaber bin Hajjaj al-Ashahwani, broke down as he called on the Qataris to feel for Qatar as he saw how capital inflow has stopped in the exchange because they are worried about the boycott and fear that they will lose their capital and profit.

As a result, the stock exchange has lost many of its traded funded. The Qatari government’s efforts did not reassure investors even though it pumped government funds to revive the stock exchange.

The economic situation, particularly the stock exchanges, are the most credible when detecting reactions to any political development as these numbers do not lie. This is how analysts figure out people’s real opinion away from the media fuss, which may depict a wrong picture about the situation of a country.

Yes, Qatar is a rich country and its population is small, which makes its citizens rich. However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
investors are fleeing the country, which is draining the economy. This indicates what the Qatari citizens cannot disclose as they fear the government’s suppression.

The government of Hamad bin Khalifa and Hamad bin Jassim does not hesitate to punish anyone who dares criticize it and oppose it. Punitive measures can go as far as revoking citizenships.

Qatar’s situation resembles that of a human being who refuses to admit he is ill and in need of treatment and insists on maintaining his lifestyle until his condittion gets worse and it’s impossible to control the disease. A skilled politician does not include words like stubbornness in his dictionary.

He only insists on something when persistence is in his favor and backs down when he realizes that persistence may harm his country’s interest. However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
the government of Hamad bin Khalifa and Hamad bin Jassim foolishly addresses political matters. All they do is lie and they are basically lying to themselves before lying to others.

They say the Qatari treasury has huge funds but I am certain that they will not be able to withstand the situation forever especially after their attempts to internationalize their cause failed and the world ignored them or only sympathized with them via statements.

As I have said before, Qatar will be forced to submit as the Qataris will not be able to bear the isolation they are suffering from. Moreover, trying to please people inside Qatar by pumping money into the market is a policy which the regime cannot continue to adopt.

This is more so especially that their advisors from the Arabs of the North, mainly Azmi Bechara, will eventually realize that they are the ones who misled Hamad bin Khalifa and Hamad bin Jassim and led them to this suffocating and costly isolation.

Israel destroys anti-aircraft battery in Syria after it fires at IDF jets
[IsraelTimes] Israeli recon planes were flying over Leb when Syrian SA-5 surface-to-air missile targeted them, army says.

Israeli Air Force jets destroyed an anti-aircraft battery well inside Syria on Monday morning, after the surface-to-air system launched a missile at a different plane over the skies of Leb, the army said.

A military spokesperson said that "a number" of Israeli planes were flying over Leb as part of a "routine reconnaissance mission" on early Monday morning, when they came under attack by the Syrian anti-aircraft battery.

The targeted Israeli reconnaissance aircraft were not hit by the Syrian interceptor missile and returned to base safely, according to IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus.

He would not elaborate on the number or type of aircraft, nor on where exactly they were flying over Leb.

A few hours later, the IAF sent out a separate sortie to attack the anti-aircraft battery ‐ an SA-5 model ‐ which was located some 50 kilometers east of Damascus, Conricus said.

The Russian military, which is allied with Syria and operates in the war-torn country, was notified "in real-time" ahead of the Israeli Arclight airstrike on the SA-5 battery, the spokesperson said.

The Israeli jets launched four bombs at the Syrian anti-aircraft system. According to an initial IDF assessment, the strike destroyed the SA-5 battery, or at least "incapacitated" it, Conricus said.

The IDF believes the Syrian battery that was struck was the same one that fired at the reconnaissance planes.

The IDF said it holds Syrian dictator Bashir al-Assad’s regime responsible for the fire.

Conricus said that while the army will continue to defend itself, it was not looking to "destablize" the situation with Syria.

"Preserving the relative stability is a common interest," the lieutenant colonel said.

The incident came hours before Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was due to meet with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Liberman in Tel Aviv.

When Shoigu arrives in Tel Aviv "he will get a full briefing on the matter," Conricus said.

The spokesperson acknowledged the sensitivity of the timing of the incident and the potential for it to cause tension during Shoigu’s visit, but said the military was "confident it won’t influence anything else."

"This was obviously not a preplanned event," he added.

In order to avoid unwanted festivities with the Russian troops in Syria, Jerusalem and Moscow have developed a communication system.

Israeli officials do not typically discuss the full extent of the coordination between the two militaries, but stress that the IDF does not seek Russian permission before carrying out Arclight airstrikes in Syria.

In general, Israel’s operation in Syria consist of bombing sites that are used to develop, store and transport advanced weaponry to the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group, making Monday’s strike something of an anomaly.

According to Conricus, this was the first time that Israeli aircraft were targeted by Syrian anti-aircraft missiles over Lebanese airspace since the start of the Syrian civil war. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
it was not the first time that IAF jets had been attacked by an SA-5 system.

In March, Assad’s military fired multiple interceptor missiles from an SA-5 system at Israeli jets flying over Jordan on their way back from a bombing run in Syria. The IAF jets were unharmed, but one Syrian missile seemed to be on a trajectory that took it toward an Israeli community and so it was shot down by the Arrow 2 air defense system, in the first reported use of the system.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
in that case, Israel did not respond to the anti-aircraft attack on the IAF jets with a retaliatory Arclight airstrike on the SA-5 battery that launched it.

US-backed fighters seize infamous Raqqa roundabout from ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US-backed Syrian fighters on Monday said they gained complete control of an infamous Raqqa roundabout used by ISIS holy warriors for public beheadings and crucifixions.

The Syrian Democratic Forces said they had "totally liberated" the northern city’s al-Naim roundabout, dubbed "Roundabout of Hell" by residents under ISIS’s three-year rule.

The capture followed fighting since Sunday near the roundabout, east of the municipal stadium still held by the murderous Moslems, the Arab-Kurdish alliance said in a statement.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitor, said ISIS withdrew two weeks ago from the area but the SDF could not immediately take control because of land mines.

On Sunday, SDF fighter Hazem Kobane told AFP: "Our forces were combing al-Naim... today. There was no one there."

The SDF, backed by a US-led coalition, are on the verge of seizing Raqqa after having taken around 90 percent of ISIS’s former de facto Syrian capital.

Fighting late Monday continued near the city’s stadium and hospital, where 25 holy warriors surrendered and two suicide kabooms failed, the SDF said.

Only around 300 IS fighters are believed to remain in the devastated city.
