Navy Christening 2 New Virginia-Class Submarines Today
[Times of San Diego] The Navy will christen two new Virginia-class nuclear attack submarines just an hour apart Saturday at the General Dynamics Electric Boat facility in Groton, CT.

The future USS Delaware will be christened at 10 a.m. followed by the future USS Vermont at 11 a.m.

The Delaware is the 18th Virginia-class attack submarine and the Vermont is the 19th. The $2 billion submarines can travel over 25 knots, dive to over 800 feet and submerge for three months. They are armed with torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

San Diego is currently home to five Los Angeles-class submarines that will eventually replaced by the Virginia class, of which 66 vessels are planned

The Song of Lieawatha By Tom Kratman
h/t according_to_hoyt
By the banks of the Charles River,
Right across the shining gilt dome,
On the application job-worth,
Near the old prestigious brick yard,
Lieawatha, also known as
Spreading Bull and Fauxcahontas,
Filled her out the little boxes
Checked she off the lie, "Cherokee."
Never thinking she’d be found out
Thinking much of salary bloated
Contemplating huge fees speaking
Prestige endless, public office.
Thought she, "What’s one little white lie;
Lesser still one little red one?"
In she turned the application.
Made she Harvard swoon in virtue
"Have we now our red professor!
Better still, red not in one way,
But in two, with massive virtue,
From her ancestors oppressed."
Drew she then the massive salary
As her students became debt-slaves.
Ran she then for public office,
With her resume of virtue,
And she won but still some noticed
That her story didn’t add up.
Yet lived she in Massachusetts
Where the palatable lie is
Infinitely preferable
To the truth, hard and unvarnished,
Just provided that the students
And the professoriate loony
Can still feel their wondrous virtue,
Signaling it to the whole world.

Part the Second

Never ended then the questions
And the snickers from the knowing.
While the President, he pointed,
Laughing loudly, too, and sneering
At the worse-than-dumb presumption
That this white bitch was an Indian.
Then had she an idea brilliant;
"I shall take a DNA test,
Which will prove beyond a shadow
That my family’s half-remembered
Poorly researched anecdotals
Were still true and I am truly
Of the blood of Great Sequoyah."
Then took she the DNA test
And released the answers given
To the fawning lefty papers
Globe and New York Times and WaPo
Whereupon those selfsame papers
Wrapped themselves in shrouds of virtue
Saying loudly, each and every,
That this proved beyond a single
Little nagging doubt forever
That our professorial injun
And our senatorial redskin
Was exactly what she had said,
And, in truth, a real live Indian.
Then the libertarian dummies,
Hating Trump beyond all reason
Loudly echoed just that feeling
Because even like the papers
The illiterate motherfuckers
Never realized that there is no
Possible test that could prove that
Anyone in any position
Was indeed a fucking injun.

Part the Third

"Opps," she said, when it was pointed
Out, in every nook and crannie,
That the test so widely vaunted,
Not just failed to prove her truthful,
But made her and all the others
Look most stupid and dishonest,
And the best that she could hope for
Was that she might be an Inca.
"Oops," said she, again, as soon as
She came to the understanding
That her highest aspirations
Had just disappeared in thin smoke,
And she’d given ammunition
In the form of sundry jokings
To whoever might oppose her
From the now to the forever.
Worse and worse it now did turn out
Or, more truly, was more noticed,
That her family’s sole connection
To the people called "Cherokee"
Was her multi-great grandfather who,
In manner most SS-like
Herded men, women, and children
Of the people called, "Cherokee,"
To the concentration camp whence
They were marched to Oklahoma
On the rout of which they perished
Men and women, little children,
In huge numbers all uncounted,
Buried by the trail unmarked
With their spirits long now fuming
That this white bitch with no linkage
Except that of crime and murder
Should still profit from their suff’ring.
Then the spirits laughed,
"Hahaha."

In Maps: The parts of France most at risk from disastrous floods
[The Local fr] As France reels from deadly floods in recent days, we look which parts of France are most at risk of suffering a similar disaster and the small number of towns and villages that have never experienced a natural disaster.

Every year in France devastating floods destroy homes and more often that not claim lives.

Only this week, flash floods killed 14 people in towns and villages around Carcassonne in southern France.

Following those floods the French government declared a state of natural disaster for some 126 communes around Carcassonne.

The state of natural disaster (Etat de catastrophe naturelle) is a special procedure set up in France in 1982 so the victims of exceptional natural events, such as flooding, as well as drought, can be adequately compensated for damage to property.

'Gosnell' Movie Exposing Abortion Clinic Horrors Likened to 'Spotlight,' Catholic Abuse Cover-Up
[Christian Post] Christian author Karen Swallow Prior has compared the newly-released film "Gosnell" to Oscar-winner "Spotlight" that was about the Catholic Church's cover-up of child sexual abuse.

Prior, an English professor at Liberty University and research fellow with the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, wrote in an op-ed piece for The Washington Post on Tuesday that production-wise, "Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer," is "not a high-quality film."

"It's on par with a made-for-television true crime drama (the genre it adheres to closely in structuring the plot around the trial)," she argued.

"Yet the film is impressive solely for making it this far. It was funded through crowdsourcing, reportedly having to overcome resistance by actors, distributors and advertisers along the way."

Prior compared it to 2015's "Spotlight" for the way it sheds light on a deeply disturbing problem that not many in society were aware of.

"Like the film 'Spotlight,' which looked at institutional cover-up in the Catholic Church, 'Gosnell' is about abuses of institutions and policies, abuses that too many turned a blind eye to for too long," she said, referring to the years of ignored concern before the investigation and trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.

Remains of more than 60 babies, fetuses found stashed in Detroit funeral home
(Reuters) - The remains of more than 60 infants and fetuses were found stashed in a Detroit funeral home, police said on Friday, calling the discovery "deeply disturbing."

The incident comes about a week after the badly decomposed bodies of 11 babies were found hidden in a false ceiling at a different funeral home in the Michigan city.

No connection between the two cases has yet been established, Detroit’s police chief said. He added city, state and federal investigators were looking to form a task force to investigate the improper storage of human remains.

Unrefrigerated boxes containing about 36 sets of remains were recovered from the Perry Funeral Home along with another 27 sets of remains in a freezer, police said.

"This is deeply disturbing," Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters on Friday. "I have never seen anything like this in my 41-1/2 years (on the force), ever."

Investigators are working to establish ages and identities.

An official with Perry Funeral Home, which offers burial and cremation services, declined to comment on the incident.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said in a statement it revoked the funeral home’s license and shut down the facility after inspectors "found heinous conditions and negligent conduct at the home."

Chris Wallace Calls Pres. Trump ‘Preposterous' For Suggesting Dems Are Behind Border Surge
[Daily Caller] "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace said it was "preposterous" of President Donald Trump to suggest Democrats were somehow responsible for the surge of illegal immigrants at the U.S. southern border, on "America’s Newsroom" Friday.

Wallace was discussing the escalation of Trump’s rhetoric leading up to the November midterm elections and said he has no evidence to back up his claims. (RELATED: Border Patrol Deputy Chief Begs Congress To Enter Immigration Fight To Ease Border Crisis)

"Let me say first of all that the idea that the Democrats were somehow behind this caravan coming from Honduras of these women and children is preposterous," Wallace said.

Wallace also said there’s no evidence to support the claim the protesters at Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation were paid to be there.

"And there’s been no evidence offered on that any more than there was evidence that the protesters up on Capitol Hill during the Kavanaugh hearings were paid protesters," he said.

"Let me say first of all that the idea that the Democrats were somehow behind this caravan coming from Honduras of these women and children is preposterous," Wallace said.

Come on, Chris, WAKE UP! The Democratic Party might not be actually organizing and running this caravan, but they're sure as Hell responsible for luring them here with their open-borders policies and promises of free shit from the gummint.

Wallace also said there’s no evidence to support the claim the protesters at Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation were paid to be there.

We all know that Democrats' claims to be caring and compassionate are a total sham, but even they aren't heartless enough to expect their Astroturf mob to provide their own food, transportation and lodging during the Kavanaugh hearings.

If Democrats didn't fund that disgusting display, Chris, then who did? Republicans?

This kind of "fair and balanced" bugwittery is why I don't bother watching Fox News anymore.

#4  Ref #3 and further proof of 'democratic involvement.

Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford would do this? I’ll give you 4 reasons:

1) She owns a major portion of the company that makes the morning after abortion pill and she is afraid Kavanaugh will overturn Roe v Wade, therefore making her million dollar empire go caput.
2) She’s a professor at the same college (Palo Alto U) where Diane Feinstein’s husband, Richard Blum, is on the board of directors, she has worked with Blum on the “resist Trump” movement for two years.
3) Dr. Blasey-Ford’s brother, Tom Blasey, is business partners with Peter Strzok’s cousin Jill Strzok for a company called Exelis Inc. (enough said there).
4) Feinstein + Chuck Schumer's appointed lawyers set up three "GoFundMe" pages for her the week BEFORE she testified, which are currently up to over a million dollars for her to keep as payment for her testimony.

AZ Dem Slams Stay-At-Home Moms: They're Nothing But Leeches
BLUF:
[Townhall] Democratic Senate candidate Kyrsten Sinema, of Arizona, once described stay-at-home moms as leeches in a 2006 interview.

"These women who act like staying at home, leeching off their husbands or boyfriends, and just cashing the checks is some sort of feminism because they’re choosing to live that life," she told Scottsdale nightlife magazine 944. "That’s bullshit. I mean, what the f*** are we really talking about here?"

In an interview with KTAR on Wednesday, Sinema was asked if she considered herself a "proud Democrat," a descriptor she balked at, insisting that she’s a "proud Arizonan," and that she doesn’t think either political party is doing a good job.

#5  It used to be, way back in the olden days before inflation, that a man with a decent job could support his family. His wife could stay home and take care of the children. They didn't have to squander their money on maids and after school programs. When the kids got home from school their mothers were waiting for them with milk and cookies. When the husband got home from work his dinner would be ready for him and his house would be in order. People had time to think. They had time to be civilized.

Democrats like it when it takes two jobs to make ends meet and everybody is so harried and fearful that we have no time left to think or enjoy our lives. They like it when we have to leave our children in the care of strangers. That's what I call bullshit.

#6  leeches

In some cases that is true. In other cases it’s a matter of individual specialization to leverage optimal performance for the family as a group. Statistically speaking, men and women with stay-at-home spouses tend to have more successful careers because they are not distracted. So it is really about achieving the greatest overall level of happiness by offering a variety of choices. Only a blindered socialist would insist that people are all nothing more than square widgets that must be forced into square holes.

Dear Invading Migrants: You could get $6,000 a year under Senator Kamala Harris' new plan
[Sacramento Bee] American families making less than $100,000 a year could be eligible for a monthly tax credit of up to $500, or $6,000 a year, under new legislation announced Thursday by Democratic U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris of California.

Individuals making less than $50,000 would be eligible for up to $250 a month, $3,000 a year.

"Americans are working harder than ever but stagnant wages mean they can’t keep up with cost of living increases," Harris, a likely presidential candidate in 2020, said in a statement.

Harris’ office cited a 2017 survey from the website Bankrate.com that found more than half of Americans cannot afford a $500 unexpected expense, such as a rent increase, medical bill or child care.

Insects invading Virginia and Pennsylvania could be 'most destructive species in 150 years'
[FOX] An invasive insect species native to China, India and Vietnam is posing a problem in at least two states.

The spotted lanternfly is harming crops in Winchester, Virginia, WDVM reported. The Pennsylvania-based Churchville Nature Center said the creatures were also spotted for the first time on its property Thursday.

"We are sad to report that we have had our first sighting of the spotted lanternfly on our property today," the center announced on Facebook. "If it is new to you, this invasive plant hopper is threatening the forests of the northeast as well as the lumber and agricultural industries. Please keep an eye out for the insect."

The species poses a threat to agriculture and "has the ability to greatly impact the grape, hops and logging industries," the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture warned.

America's Ghost Legions of Idle Men
[Intellectualtakeout.org] The US stock market continues to set new records. Unemployment continues to go down. The United States is now at or near "full employment". According to a Bloomberg headline last year, "The Jobless Numbers Aren’t Just Good, They’re Great".

But a closer look at economic data by demographer Nicholas Eberstadt reveals something else entirely. While "unemployment" has gone down, the work participation rate, and especially the male work rate, has been relentlessly declining for most of the post-War era and is now reaching a crisis with Depression-era levels.

In his new book, Men Without Work, Eberstadt describes this as a deep moral and social crisis which is passing almost unnoticed by politicians, pundits, business leaders and economists.

One-sixth of all men of prime working age in America ‐ men aged between 25 and 54 ‐ are not just unemployed, but have stopped looking for jobs altogether. This is a time bomb with far reaching economic, social, and political consequences. "Unlike the dead soldiers in Roman antiquity," he writes, "our decimated men still live and walk among us, though in an existence without productive economic purpose. We might say those many millions of men without work constitute a sort of invisible army, ghost soldiers lost in an overlooked, modern-day depression."

In many ways, this is a disturbing book. Never before in American history have so many men done absolutely nothing. Millions are becoming dependent, infantilized and sick. According to a recent paper by Princeton economist Alan Krueger nearly half of the men who are not looking for work are on painkillers and many are disabled. They "experience notably low levels of emotional well-being throughout their days and ... they derive relatively little meaning from their daily activities," Krueger found. And there are 7 million of them.

Consider these staggering statistics. Prime-age American men in employment spend 2,200 hours a year in work and work-related activity; employed women spend 1,850 hours; unemployed men spend 400 hours, mostly looking for jobs. But 7 million American men between 25 and 54 spent 43 hours a year working. That averages out to about 7 minutes a day.

And what did they do with their time? Learn French? Paint watercolours? Help at a local nursing home? Vacuuming? None of the above. They spent less time in volunteer and religious activities than the other three groups. They don’t read newspapers much. They don’t vote much. A third of them have used illegal drugs in the past year.

Basically they did nothing much. Time-use studies show that:

Iran gets February deadline to fix terror financing: watchdog
[IsraelTimes] Tehran told to amend legislation that allows funding for groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, that claim to be working to end ’foreign occupation, colonialism and racism’

A global financial watchdog on Friday warned Iran to clamp down on terrorism financing by February or face a deeper squeeze on its sanctions-hit economy.

The Islamic republic, already hurt by a resumption of US sanctions over its nuclear program, this month approved one bill to help meet demands imposed by the international Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

FATF, following a meeting at its Gay Paree headquarters this week, welcomed the legislation and extended a suspension of counter-measures that has allowed Iran to escape further isolation from international finance.

But nine of the 10 "action plan" items needed to remove Iran from an FATF blacklist have yet to be adopted by Tehran, according to Marshall Billingslea, the US assistant treasury secretary for terrorist financing.

"In our plenary, here in Gay Paree, we expressed our disappointment that the majority of the action plan remains outstanding," said Billingslea, who currently chairs the FATF, told a news conference.

"We expect that they will have adopted all these measures by February," he said.

Billingslea said if measures were not adopted by February next year, the FATF will take further steps to protect against the risks from Iran’s lack of action.

PRESSING FINANCE NEEDS
For Iran, access to finance has become particularly pressing since the United States walked out of a 2015 nuclear deal earlier this year and began reimposing sanctions.

The other parties to the deal ‐ Britannia, La Belle France, Germany, China and Russia ‐ have sought to salvage the agreement and maintain trade with Iran, but have demanded that it accede to the FATF.

Among the further steps demanded by the FATF, originally an initiative of the G7 nations, was for Iran to identify and freeze myrmidon assets in line with UN Security Council resolutions.

Another was for Tehran to remove an exemption from its legislation that allows financing towards groups deemed to be attempting to end "foreign occupation, colonialism and racism."

Iran has long been accused by the United States, Israel and regional rivals such as Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
of financing a web of terror groups, including the Hezbollah militia in Leb, and Paleostinian groups in Gazoo, like Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
In a statement, the FATF said it will review Iran’s remaining legislation once it is in place to determine whether Tehran had met its demands.

It urged FATF members to exercise heightened checks on transactions involving Iranian businesses and nationals.

Iran is one of only two countries on the FATF blacklist.

The other is North Korea, and Friday’s statement reiterated "serious concerns" about the Asian country’s illicit activities to finance its missile and nuclear programs.

Nancy Pelosi Mobbed By Anti-Communists in Florida
[Daily Caller] House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was harassed by an anti-communist mob of protesters at a campaign visit in Florida this week.

Pelosi was approached and yelled at while stopping to meet with Democratic leaders and activists in South Florida on Wednesday. Video of the moment surfaced on YouTube with the caption: "Nancy Pelosi was heckled at a Miami Restaurant by Trump Supporting Cuban Americans."

In the video, Pelosi can be seen entering the restaurant and getting rushed by a mob of protesters. The protesters held anti-communist signs and yelled, "Look at Nancy Pelosi right here ‐ f***ing communist. Get the f**k out of here. F**k you and your f**king Democrats."

The bewildered Pelosi looked at the protesters before ducking into a doorway with security. The protesters chanted, "Communism sucks" at the closed door.

More than 110.000 people infected by water pollution in Iraq’s Basra
Now we know.
Basra (IraqiNews.com) Water contamination in Iraq’s southern province of Basra has caused more than 110.000 people to fall sick, an official in the province said as it struggles to overcome a water crisis that caused recent protests.

Baghdad Today quoted Mahdi al-Tamimi, head of the Human Rights Commission’s office in Basra, saying in press statements that "poisoning cases in the province are on the rise, which denotes the absence of solution to water salinity and contamination".

"Cases caused by the drinking of contaminated water have surpassed 110.000, and those are suffering intestinal disorders and vomiting", Tamimi said. "sewage-like water are pumped to some areas".

Iraq’s Basra had witnessed violent protests since early September over multiple social grievances, most notably water shortages and contamination. Some Iraqis officials had said Iran pumped contaminated water left over from its farmlands towards Iraqi territories, which prompted some Iraqi protesters to set the Iranian consulate in Basra on fire.

Outgoing Iraqi premier Haider al-Abadi had made directives to address the situation and deliver enough water quantities.

EU top court orders Poland to suspend Supreme Court retirements
[PULSE.NG] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
's top court on Friday ordered Poland to "immediately suspend" its decision to lower the retirement age of its Supreme Court judges, which it said threatens judicial independence.

The European Commission, the bloc's executive arm, last month took Poland's rightwing government to the European Court of Justice for lowering the age at which Supreme Court judges must retire from 70 to 65.

"Poland must immediately suspend the application of the provisions of national legislation relating to the lowering of the retirement age for Supreme Court judges," the European Court of Justice said.

The Commission had asked the court in Luxembourg to take a decision as "soon as possible", warning that Warsaw was accelerating retirements.

Speaking in Brussels, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said his government had during "the last few hours received the court of justice decision".

"We will certainly respond to it," he added.

"We will see what these (EU) institutions are proposing. When we take them into consideration, several possibilities will be analysed."

The court said the order to suspend retirements "is to apply with retroactive effect" after noting that several judges had already been forced to retire.

The court, which said it would issue a final ruling at a later date, could impose fines if it finds Poland in breach of EU law.

The Commission has expressed concern the new retirement age will hasten the departure of judges appointed under previous governments, allowing the appointment of figures seen as loyal by Warsaw's current leadership.

Iran sends Hezbollah GPS parts to turn rockets into precision missiles — report
[IsraelTimes] Fox News reports most recent shipment arrived in Beirut on Tuesday; Leb has previously denied Netanyahu’s claim that Iran operates weapons factories on its soil

Iran has delivered advanced GPS components to Hezbollah which will allow the terrorist group to make previously unguided rockets into precision guided-missiles, thus increasing the threat to Israel, Fox News reported Friday.

According to the media outlet, American and western intelligence services believe Iran has been increasing its shipments to Hezbollah, with one flight arriving in Beirut as recently as three days ago with the parts to convert weaponry at Iranian factories in Leb.

Syrian Army reinforcements reach lines in west Aleppo after jihadists refuse to leave Al-Zahraa
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) gave the jihadist rebels until October 15th to withdrawal their forces from the al-Zahra’a axis in west Aleppo before they would make their decision regarding whether or not they would launch an offensive at this front.

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
and their allies refused to leave the al-Zahra’a axis in west Aleppo on October 15th, despite repeated by threats by the Syrian Arab Army and the Russian military.

The jihadist group would send their response to the Syrian Army in the form of a barrage of missiles on the densely populated New Aleppo District, prompting the Syrian Arab Army to unleash a flurry of projectiles on their supply lines to the al-Zahra’a Association Quarter.

Since October 15th, the jihadist rebels have heavily attacked west Aleppo everyday in a defiant act to egg the Syrian Arab Army and their allies on.

The Syrian Army has now responded by sending a large number of reinforcements to the fringes of the al-Zahra’a Association Quarter, where they joined forces with the Elite Republican Guard troops that have been at the front-lines with the jihadists since the battle of Aleppo in 2012.

It appears as of now that the Syrian Arab Army is preparing to kickoff their operation in the coming weeks, as they look to end Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s last presence around the scenic provincial capital.

Democratic Congressman Suggests Jared Kushner May Have Ordered Assassination Of Khashoggi
[DAILYCALLER] Texas Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro, a potential 2020 presidential candidate, suggested to CNN Friday morning that Jared Kushner potentially told the Saudi government to kill journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The remarks came during a discussion about President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s reaction to the disappearance of The Washington Post contributor and political activist.

"Let me get to the point that I think is most disturbing right now. The reporting that Jared Kushner may have, with U.S. intelligence, delivered a hit list, an enemies list, to the crown prince, to MBS, in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. , and that the prince then may have acted on that, and one of the people that he took action against was Mr. Khashoggi," Castro said to CNN’s Poppy Harlow.

Harlow proceeded to interrupt Castro to inform viewers that she had not seen any reporting to that effect and asked Castro where he had heard such information.

Castro insisted he had seen reporting suggesting an liquidation plot by Kushner.

"I’ve seen reporting to that effect ... that needs to be investigated."

The Daily Caller News Foundation has seen no reports suggesting the disappearance of Khashoggi has anything to do with Kushner.

Saudi crown prince had no knowledge of 'specific' Khashoggi operation
[Al Ahram] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's crown prince had no knowledge of the specific operation that resulted in the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul this month, a Saudi official familiar with the investigation said on Friday.

"There were no orders for them to kill him or even specifically kidnap him," said the source, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
and adding that there was a standing order to bring critics of the kingdom back to the country.

"MbS had no knowledge of this specific operation and certainly did not order a kidnapping or murder of anybody. He will have been aware of the general instruction to tell people to come back," the source said, using the initials of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as of 2016....
The source said the whereabouts of Khashoggi's body were unclear after it was handed over to a "local cooperator" but there was no sign of it at the consulate.

Viktoria Marinova: Murder suspect admits attacking journalist
[Al Jazeera] A 21-year-old man suspected of the rape and murder of Bulgarian television journalist Viktoria Marinova has admitted that he attacked her.

Handcuffed and surrounded by coppers, Severin Krasimirov spoke to news hounds inside a courtroom on Friday where he appeared for a custody hearing in Ruse, northern Bulgaria.

"I do not know what happened. I cannot remember everything. I went there and I slapped her, she fell. I want to move on but she grabbed me," Krasimirov told news hounds.

"Yes, I am guilty, I am very sorry. I cannot believe that I have done that," Krasimirov said in a wavering voice when news hounds asked whether he plans to tell the court he is guilty.

Authorities said she died from blows to the head and suffocation, and that she was raped after her death.
If convicted, Krasimirov faces a prison sentence of 10-20 years for the rape and a possible life sentence for the murder.

The body of the 30-year-old television presenter was found near a jogging path along the Danube in Ruse on October 6.

Authorities said she died from blows to the head and suffocation, and that she was raped after her death.

Prosecutors say there was no evidence her death was related to her work and pointed to a random sexual crime, though they said they are investigating all possibilities.

Investigators say DNA found on the victim matches Krasimirov. They have also collected additional evidence against him, Interior Minister Mladen Marinov said on Friday.

Britain
Anjem Choudary Released from Prison
[AnNahar] Radical holy man Anjem Choudary
...Self-proclaimed holy man who used to work for Omar Mohammed Bakdri as spokesman for al-Muhajiroun. Anjem is a loathesome little attention prostitute who is to be heard cheering for the home team anytime anybody with a turban manages to slaughter a group of unarmed infidels. Anjem was born in the UK in 1967 and is, as you would expect, of Pakistaini descent. The Ghost of Dante is of the opinion that when he goes to hell his knees will be broken once a month. He is currently in jug for supporting the Islamic State..
, long a thorn in the side of British authorities, was released from prison on Friday having served half his sentence for encouraging support for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, British media reported.

The 51-year-old was tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
for five-and-a-half years in 2016, and will serve the rest of his sentence under strict supervision orders having been released from Belmarsh prison, near London.

He is expected to return to his home in Ilford, east of London, although will not be able to use any internet-enabled devices without permission, the BBC reported.

Other restrictions are reported to include bans on leaving Britannia without permission and on attending certain mosques and he will only be allowed to meet with people approved by the police.

Choudary is the former head in Britannia of Islam4UK or al-Muhajiroun
...formerly Omar Bakri Muhammad's spin off group from Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain, where the detestable lunatic Anjem Chaudry got his start. More recently the name adopted by al-Qaeda in East Africa for operations in Kenya and Tanzania. It is subordinate to al-Shabaab but will probably be strong enough to fly on its own, given an uninterrupted flow of petrodollars, should the Shaboobs collapse....
, a now-banned group co-founded by Omar Bakri Muhammad that called for Islamic law in the UK.

For two decades, the former lawyer of Pak descent stayed on the right side of the law, becoming Britannia's most prominent radical preacher.

Among those radicalised by Muhajiroun were the jacket wallahs who killed 52 people on London's public transport system in July 2005, and the men who murdered soldier Lee Rigby in the capital in 2013, police say.

The court heard that Choudary had broadcast speeches recognising His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
as the leader of the Islamic State.

Choudary and his co-defendant Mohammed Rahman were locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
by officers from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command on September 25, 2014.

The father-of-five previously hit the headlines for organising a pro-the late Osama bin Laden

event in London in 2011.

He also belonged to a group that burned poppies, the symbol of remembrance for deaths in war, during an Armistice Day protest in the British capital in 2010.

In a 2014 interview with AFP, Choudary called on western journalists, civilians and troops in "Moslem countries" to "completely withdraw and allow us to implement the Sharia".

Former police terror chief Richard Walton called him a "hardened dangerous terrorist" who had had a "huge influence on Islamist extremism in this country".

L.A. Times: Nancy Pelosi Has Been ‘Grooming' Adam Schiff as Possible Successor
[Breitbart] The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who intends to become Speaker of the House if Democrats win the November midterm elections, "has quietly been grooming potential successors, among them Rep. Adam Schiff."

Pelosi told the Times that while she intended to run for Speaker, she did not intend on serving forever: "I have things to do. Books to write; places to go; grandchildren, first and foremost, to love."

The Times noted that Pelosi "has no plans to try to force a choice," though she would be happy to hand the gavel to another woman. Pelosi also said: ""Whoever is next is not up to me. ... If I were saying, ’I want so-and-so to be my successor,’ that’s not right."

However, Pelosi has her favorites in the caucus. Schiff would be an interesting choice. A fellow Californian, he has handled top portfolios, and currently serves as the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee. For most of the past two years, Schiff has been a ubiquitous presence on cable news, driving the story ‐ which critics call a conspiracy theory ‐ of Russian "collusion" with President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. That performance has made Schiff a villain, to Republicans, but a hero to Democrats eager to see Trump impeached.

Tanzanian 'criminals' seeking base in Mozambique: police
[PULSE.NG] Armed Tanzanians are seeking to establish a base in Mozambique, police said Friday, after the arrest of dozens of suspected forces of Evil from Tanzania in connection with deadly Islamist attacks across the border.
Over the last year, more than 50 people have been killed in gun, grenade and knife assaults in a growing jihadist insurgency in Mozambique's northern province of Cabo Delgado.

Some 50 Tanzanians are among 180 suspects on trial over the attacks.

"These criminals want to establish a base in Mozambique. But they are fooling themselves as we have good relations with Mozambique and other neighbouring countries," said police chief Simon Sirro, addressing a presser in Dar es Salaam.

Sirro said the Tanzanians, including maiden of tender yearss, were part of a group responsible for several murders of coppers and administrative officials in Tanzania's eastern Pwani province in 2016 and 2017.

The motives of these attacks were unclear and Tanzanian officials are hesitant to point the finger at religious extremism, an extremely sensitive topic in the country.

After the killings in Pwani, President John Magufuli hinted at the motive, saying: "There is no religious faith that teaches people to kill."

Sirro said police recently nabbed
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
104 members of this group trying to enter Mozambique.

"As you know there are those we have arrested, there are those who have been killed in festivities with police ... some managed to cross the border" into Mozambique, said Sirro.

"They hide in the forests, learn how to use weapons of war such as the AK47. This trend comes from foreign countries, we don't have this in Tanzania," he said.

Some 60 percent of Tanzanians identify as Christian and 36 percent as Moslem, according to a 2010 survey from the Washington-based thinktank, the Pew Research Centre.

The country has not had the same struggles with extremism as seen elsewhere in the region, with the only high profile attack the 1998 bombing of the US Embassy in Dar es Salaam.

Militants linked to Somalia's al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabaab

group.

There have been smaller scale attacks -- however it is often unclear whether this is linked to criminal activity rather than Islamism.

The semi-autonomous islands of Zanzibar, with a majority Moslem population, has been a hotbed of religious tensions, with Islamists blamed for setting churches on fire, attacking Christian leaders and carrying out an acid attack on two British girls in 2013.

Politico: Trump critics should prepare for disappointment with Mueller report
[HotAir] After nearly two years of constant panic about the possibility of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign, Politico suggests that Trump critics may want to lower their expectations for Robert Mueller's final report, that is if they ever get to see it at all:

They may be in for a disappointment.

That's the word POLITICO got from defense lawyers working on the Russia probe and more than 15 former government officials with investigation experience spanning Watergate to the 2016 election case. The public, they say, shouldn't expect a comprehensive and presidency-wrecking account of Kremlin meddling and alleged obstruction of justice by Trump ‐ not to mention an explanation of the myriad subplots that have bedeviled lawmakers, journalists and amateur Mueller sleuths.

Perhaps most unsatisfying: Mueller's findings may never even see the light of day...

That's because the final decision on what to release will be up to Rod Rosenstein, though you can certainly expect any information harmful to the president to leak the moment Democrats get their hands on it. But there may not even be much to leak. Politico's sources say Mueller's report isn't likely to be full of juicy one-liners:

As for the crafting of the report itself, Mueller has significant leeway. He can theoretically be as expansive as he wants. But sources who have worked closely with Mueller during his lengthy career at the Justice Department say his by-the-books, conservative style is likely to win out, suggesting he might lean more toward saying less than more.

Several previous investigations, Iran Contra and Whitewater, have dragged on for years, only issuing final reports once the president at the center of the story was out of office. But at least one observer who knows Mueller says he's likely to be more decisive:

"He knows how these Office of Special Counsel investigations can drag on," said McNulty, now president of Grove City College in western Pennsylvania. "He's seen all that over the course of his career. I just know he's the kind of person who's decisive and if he thought that there was a way to not drag something out because it could be addressed appropriately, he'd have the determination to do that. He's also not going to cut some corner just to be done."

It should go without saying that even at this late date something could change. But with hints that Mueller's investigation may be wrapping up, there's at least some reason to think it ends not with a bang but with a whimper.
So the left's wet dream to remove Trump and put VanPantsuit in there is about to hit reality. With this and if they can't win back the House, expect the unhinged behavior and shrieks to rise to levels not seen.

#1  I’m not much concerned about Trump / Russia collusion. I doubt there’s anything there. What would be surprising is if Mueller revealed indictments pertaining to the activities of the Democrats and the Federal bureaucracy to set it all up.

More concerning is the investigation, through Cohen, of Trump’s finances and those of the Trump Foundation. How would it be possible to spend decades in real estate development and not have something shady, however small, left as evidence of the crimes they are hoping to pin on him?

Facebook launches ‘war room’ to combat election manipulation
[IsraelTimes] Newly launched 20-person team lends a human eye to company’s artificial-intelligence effort to detect attempts to illegitimately influence voting around the world.

In Facebook’s "War Room," a nondescript space adorned with American and Brazilian flags, a team of 20 people monitors computer screens for signs of suspicious activity.

The freshly launched unit at Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, is the nerve center for the fight against misinformation and manipulation of the largest social network by foreign actors trying to influence elections in the United States and elsewhere.

Inside, the walls have clocks showing the time in various regions of the US and Brazil, maps and TV screens showing CNN, Fox News and Twitter, and other monitors showing graphs of Facebook activity in real time.

Facebook, which has been blamed for doing too little to prevent misinformation efforts by Russia and others in the 2016 US election, now wants the world to know it is taking aggressive steps with initiatives like the war room.

"Our job is to detect ... anyone trying to manipulate the public debate," said Nathaniel Gleicher, a former White House cybersecurity policy director for the National Security Council who is now heading Facebook’s cybersecurity policy.

"We work to find and remove these actors."

Facebook has been racing to get measures in place and began operating this nerve center ‐ with a hastily taped "WAR ROOM" sign on the glass door ‐ for the first round of the presidential vote in Brazil on October 7.

It didn’t take long to find false information and rumors being spread which could have had an impact on voters in Brazil.

"On election day, we saw a spike in voter suppression (messages) saying the election was delayed due to protests. That was not a true story," said Samidh Chakrabarti, Facebook’s head of civic engagement.

Chakrabarti said Facebook was able to remove these posts in a couple of hours before they went viral.

"It could have taken days" had the new unit not intervened.

HUMANS AND MACHINES
At the unveiling of the war room for a small group of journalists including AFP this week, a man in a gray pork pie hat kept his eyes glued to his screen where a Brazilian flag was attached.

He said nothing but his mission was obvious ‐ watching for any hints of interference with the second round of voting in Brazil on October 28.

The war room, which will ramp up activity for the November 6 midterm US elections, is the most concrete sign of Facebook’s efforts to weed out misinformation.

With experts in computer science, cybersecurity and legal specialists, the center is operating during peak times for the US and Brazil at present, with plans to eventually work 24/7.

The war room adds a human dimension to the artificial intelligence tools Facebook has already deployed to detect inauthentic or manipulative activity.

"Humans can adapt quickly to new threats," Gleicher said of the latest effort.

Chakrabarti said the new center is an important part of coordinating activity ‐ even for a company that has been built on remote communications among people in various parts of the world.

"There’s no substitute to face to face interactions," he said.

The war room was activated just weeks ahead of the US vote, amid persistent fears of manipulation by Russia and other state entities, or efforts to polarize or inflame tensions.

The war room is part of stepped up security announced by Facebook that will be adding some 20,000 employees to the company’s rosters.

"With elections we need people to detect and remove (false information) as quickly as possible," Chakrabarti said.

The human and computerized efforts to weed out bad information complement each other, according to Chakrabarti.

"If an anomaly is detected in an automated way, then a data scientist will investigate, will see if there is really a problem," he said.

The efforts are also coordinated with Facebook’s fact-checking partners around the world including media organizations such as AFP and university experts.

Gleicher said the team will remain on high alert for any effort that could lead to false information going viral and potentially impacting the result of an election.

"We need to stay ahead of bad actors," he said. "We keep shrinking the doorway. They keep trying to get in."

#6  They're a publisher, not a common carrier.

This *is* the crux of the problem. Not a lawyer, but as I understand it, Facebook and Twitter are operating under a clause of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DCMA) that treats them as common carriers, similar to the phone companies in that they are not responsible for the content on their sites.

However, it seems to non-lawyer me, that once they start censoring curating that content, they are essentially a publisher and become responsible for that content. They are business so it isn't a 1st Amendment issue, but we don't allow newspapers and magazines to post death threats and calls for violence. Facebook and Twitter will continue to have the best of both worlds until Congress has the balls to fix the mess it has created. Likely Congress won't until there are some big-ass, high-profile lawsuits over the calls for violence. Lawyers, to the photocopiers!

The Grand Turk
Turkey denies giving 'any kind of audio tape' on Khashoggi to US
[PULSE.NG] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Friday denied giving "any kind of audio tape" from the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or any American official.

"It is out of the question for Turkey to give any kind of audio tape to Pompeo or any other US official," said Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, two days after meeting with the US's top diplomat for talks in Ankara.

Turkey's pro-government press has reported that Turkey has an audio recording that proves the alleged murder of Khashoggi at the consulate and that he was tortured before his death.

The existence of the tape has never been confirmed on the record by Ottoman Turkish officials.

ABC News, quoting a senior Ottoman Turkish official, reported Thursday that during his visit to Turkey this week Pompeo heard this audio and was shown a transcript of the recording. But Pompeo denied the report.

"I've seen no tape. I’ve seen no ‐- or I've heard no tape. I’ve seen no transcript," he told news hounds during a trip to Latin America.

Cavusoglu, like other Ottoman Turkish officials, stopped short of revealing details of the investigation but vowed they would be shared in due course.

"We will share the results to emerge with the entire world. It is out of the question for us to share this or that information with any country," he said, quoted by the state-run Anadolu news agency.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Thousands of Palestinians protest on Gaza border
[Ynet] Most demonstrators keep away from fence but some burn tires closer; Paleostinians breached fence and flee back into the strip three times, Israeli troops opened fire on infiltrators in one instance.

Some 10,000 Paleostinians protested as part of Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,'s "March of Return" campaign at several spots along the Gazoo border on Friday evening, with Israeli defense officials saying the festivities were the calmest over the past seven months and that Hamas has been able to rein in the violence.

The IDF said most of the protesters have been keeping their distance from the border fence, while dozens were burning tires and throwing rocks with slingshots closer to the fence.

There were also fewer incidents of rioters hurling explosives, Molotov cocktails and grenades at IDF troops. Israeli troops responded with crowd dispersal measures.

Defense officials estimated Hamas deployed gunnies to the border fence area to calm down protesters and prevent violence. In addition, Lebanese TV network Al Mayadeen reported the IDF also sent text messages to Gazoo residents, warning them not to come to the border.

Nevertheless, Paleostinians managed to breach the border fence, enter Israeli territory and flee back into the strip three times. In one of the cases, the IDF shot up the infiltrators. The IDF said "all infiltration incidents were being monitored by the forces."

Hamas' al-Aqsa TV aired footage of Paleostinians climbing over the fence and others breaching it and entering into Israeli territory. Others used cutters to tear down parts of the barrier.

Gazoo's Health Ministry reported 130 Paleostinians were maimed by Israeli fire and six of them were at death's door. About 30 Paleostinians suffered tear gas inhalation.

The IDF has deployed large forces along the border and has been preparing for the possibility the "March of Return" protest will escalate later. IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot held a situation assessment on the border.

An IAF shot up a terror cell launching incendiary balloons from Gazoo into Israel.

Meanwhile firefighting teams with aid from the KKL and the Nature and Parks Authority have been working since the early morning hours to put out three fires caused by incendiary balloons.

The Hamas terror group said in a statement that "the persistence of the people in Gazoo and the mass participation in the 30th week to the 'March of Return' to break the blockade is the biggest response to the threats of the Israeli enemy, as it serves as a great incentive for our people.

Hamas official Ismail Radwan added that "no element has asked us to stop the protests. Even the Egyptians stressed it is our right to protest."

Earlier, the Hamas-led organizing committee of the weekly "March of Return" riots issued an unusual announcement, telling demonstrators not to approach the Gazoo border fence during the protests.

The Paleostinians were asked not to come near the border fence so Israel would not have an excuse to attack the coastal enclave.

"Your blood is valuable, keep it to establish the homeland," the announcement read.

Sources in Gazoo further told Ynet Hamas is expected to tone down the display of violence.

The sources added that talks held with Egyptian intelligence officials, as well as Israel's warning that further escalation in the strip would force it to launch a military campaign in Gazoo, would motivate the terror organization to curb the violence.

Israeli decision-makers believe that restraining the festivities along the border fence would restore calm there.

Skirmishes resembling to last Friday's riots, during which the Paleostinians placed an bomb on the fence, with 20 of them breaching it and prompting the IDF to open fire, would leave Israel with little choice but to launch a limited military campaign in Gazoo, credible sources told Ynet.
The Times of Israel adds:
According to reports, Egypt had warned Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", that renewed protests would bring a heavy Israeli response.

Khaled al-Batsh, a big shot of the Iran-backed Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group and an organizer of the march, wrote in a statement thanking the Egyptian military intelligence delegation for its work bringing about a limited ceasefire with Israel on Wednesday and Thursday.

He also said the delegation was due to visit the Gazoo Strip again the following week to continue the negotiation efforts.

Britain
20 men found guilty of raping more than a dozen teenage girls in northern England
[FOXNEWS] Twenty men in the United Kingdom have been convicted of raping and abusing more than a dozen teenage girls in the northern city of Huddersfield.

The convictions are the latest in a series of child sexual exploitation cases in the region. Prosecutors said the men embarked on a "campaign of rape and other sexual abuse" against vulnerable girls between the ages of 11 and 17.

The men were found guilty in a series of trials earlier this year. A judge lifted the reporting restrictions on Friday.

The sentences have totaled 221 years in prison.

Among those guilty was 35-year-old Amere Singh Dhaliwal, whom prosecutors said was the gang’s ringleader.

He was found guilty of 54 separate charges, including 22 counts of rape involving 11 girls. He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 18 years.

A judge told him earlier this year: "You treated them as commodities to be passed around for your own sexual gratification and the gratification of others."

"They extend and gravity of your offending far exceeds anything which I have previously encountered," the judge continued, according to Sky News.

Judge Geoffrey Marson QC, when he sentenced 16 of the men earlier this year, reportedly said: "The way you treated these girls defies understanding; this abuse was vile and wicked."

"As cases of sexual abuse with which the courts have to deal, this case comes top of the scale," he added, according to the BBC.

Outside the court on Friday, Michael Quinn, the head of complex case unit at CPS South Yorkshire and Humberside, told news hounds the case involved "cynical exploitation of maiden of tender yearss by a group of older men."

He said the men "deliberately targeted their victims because of their vulnerability" and "groomed them and exploited them for their own sexual gratification."

Similar cases have erupted across South Yorkshire, with the National Crime Agency (NCA) reporting earlier this year that they believe upwards of 1,510 girls are believed to have been sexually exploited in the region over a 16-year period.

The NCA said it had identified 110 people suspected of being part of child-grooming gangs in Rotherham, the largest town in South Yorkshire.

Huddersfield is located in West Yorkshire.

Police officers in Rochdale, Oxford and Newcastle have also had their own child sexual abuse scandals in recent years that follow a pattern grimly familiar to those in Rotherham and Huddersfield.

The cases have heightened racial tensions and spurred criticism of both local authorities who failed to protect vulnerable girls and police, who often did not listen to the victims.
An Nahar added:
The men are all British of South Asian origin, mostly of Pak heritage. British media reports said many perpetrators have never been identified.

Update at 10:30 a.m. ET courtesy of Bright Pebbles:
Faces of islamevil: The predatory paedophiles in grooming gang that shames Huddersfield

[ExaminerLive] From an aspiring pharmacist to taxi drivers, takeaway workers and drug dealers, these are the predatory paedophiles who have shamed Huddersfield with their roles in one of the UK’s most horrific and shocking grooming gangs.

They were known by their nicknames and the young victims were often introduced to other men who went on to sexually assault them, rape them, traffick them for others to abuse or try to force them into prostitution.

The youngest was just 14 or 15 when he raped one of the victims.

Most of them were known to ringleader Amere Singh Dhaliwal and their stories are equally as corrupt and twisted as his.

Manzoor Hassan was already serving a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence for making a schoolgirl work as a prostitute; his younger brother Zahid Hassan worked in a takeaway and groomed a vulnerable child with FOOD and; Mansoor Akhtar was already serving a six-year prison sentence for his part in ANOTHER grooming gang.

Here are the horrendous profiles of the 19 defendants who stood trial alongside Dhaliwal.

#6  Parents? Anybody seen parents around?

The history of this kind of thing in England is that 1) when the girls reported abuse to the authorities, whether police, social workers, or teachers, they were not believed; 2) when parents reported it they were either not believed or were threatened with arrest for being racist.

The Examiner Live report giving the names and details of the 20 miscreants is one of nine stories recently published by the newspaper in the subject, including one tut-tutting about the Islamophobic exaggerations of the “far right”.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Situation in Idlib heats up as intense clashes breakout between Syrian Army and jihadists
[ALMASDARNEWS] The situation in Idlib has heated up amid reports that the jihadist rebels have once again refused to leave the designated buffer zone.

On Friday, intense festivities would breakout between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and jihadist rebels in the eastern countryside of Idlib after the former heavily shelled Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
’s positions near the Abu Dhuhour Airbase.

According to a military source in eastern Idlib, the Syrian Arab Army heavily targeted Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s positions with missiles and artillery shells at the Khuwayn and Zarzour axes; this prompted a powerful response from the jihadists.

The jihadists would fire a plethora of missiles towards the Abu Dhuhour area of eastern Idlib, prompting another response from the Syrian Arab Army.

This latest confrontation comes just 24 hours after the commander of the Tiger Forces Suheil al-Hassan arrived in east Idlib with one of the leaders of the 5th Corps.

The source says that the Syrian Arab Army is preparing to kickoff a new offensive inside the eastern part of the buffer zone, as the jihadist rebels have refused to leave the area.

Heavy weapons ‘present at rear defense lines’ in Idlib’s demilitarised zone

[ALMASDARNEWS] Armed gunnies were seen in the area surrounding the northern province of Idlib, where a demilitarised buffer zone is meant to have been established, footage from Tuesday shows.

According to Abdel Salam Abdel Razaq of the ’National Front for the Liberation of Syria,’: "Defense lines remain intact, and elements [fighters] are still at their locations. Light weapons are still there, including 14.5′ and 23′ rifles [sic], and anti-tank weapons."

He added that the implementation of the agreement is "smooth and easy and with no complications."

Tiger Forces commander arrives in east Idlib as offensive is reportedly back on

[ALMASDARNEWS] The commander of the Tiger Forces arrived in the eastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate on Thursday, the group’s official media wing reported.

Major General Suheil al-Hassan of the Tiger Forces reportedly arrived at the Abu Dhuhour Airbase in eastern Idlib on Thursday morning after receiving orders from the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) High Command to deploy to this front.

The Tiger Forces leader reportedly toured the battlefield around the eastern Idlib front along with the commander of the 5th Corps.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army’s offensive in east Idlib is back on for now, but this could change if the jihadist rebels leave the designated buffer zone.

Should the jihadist rebels not withdraw from the buffer zone in the coming days, then the Syrian Arab Army will launch their long-awaited operation in the eastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

The Syrian Army has already begun military exercises near the Idlib front-lines, with their air force conducting several reconnaissance flights over the jihadist positions.

Algeria bans wearing of full-face veils in administration
[Al Ahram] Algeria Prime minister Ahmed Ouayhia has banned female public sector employees from wearing veils that cover their faces.

In a letter sent to ministers and regional governors on Thursday, Ahmed Ouayhia cited reasons of identification for the move. Civil servants, he wrote, need to ``observe the rules and requirements of security and communication within their department, which impose their systematic and permanent physical identification.''

Not so many women wear the niqab in Algeria, where the hijab - a scarf that covers the head and neck, but leaves the face clear - is the most popular.

FBI agents raid San Juan government offices as part of investigation into fraud, corruption
[FOXNEWS] FBI agents this week raided the municipal offices in San Juan, Puerto Rico ‐ rooting through documents and seizing digital records as part of a widespread investigation into fraud and obstruction of justice charges tied to the city government.

San Juan’s purchasing division was the target of the raid. And while FBI special agent Douglas Leff did not implicate Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz in the raid, he did tell local media that "we are going to follow the investigation where it leads us."

Cruz tweeted Tuesday that she has instructed city officials to cooperate with federal authorities and said, "If someone has done something wrong, they should undergo due process and face the consequences of their actions."

On Tuesday, more than two dozen agents entered the city’s Municipal Tower carrying briefcases, cameras and electronic equipment, Puerto Rican news agency El Nuevo Dia first reported.

Federal agents raided the third, fourth, 14th and 15th floors of the building, looking for documents related to corruption inside San Juan’s purchasing and contracting departments.

The detentions come after a series of prosecutions of journalists in the troubled nation, which is just two months away from tense elections to replace President Joseph Kabila.

"The police proceeded early this morning to abduct five journalists from AfricaNews. Octave Mukendi, Bruce Landu, Roddy Bosakwa, Dan Luyila and Laurent Omba were taken to an unknown destination," AfricaNews managing editor Achille Kadima said in a statement.

Europe
Macedonian parliament votes to approve name change
[Al Jazeera] The Macedonian parliament has passed constitutional changes to allow the Balkan country to change its name to the Republic of North Macedonia, as agreed with Greece.

A total of 80 deputies in the 120-seat parliament on Friday voted in favour of the name change.

The move could unblock the country's bids to join NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, long blocked by Greece, which argues that "Macedonia" implied territorial claims to a Greek province of the same name.

The two countries reached agreement on the name change in June.

But hurdles remain before the change can be formalised.

Friday's vote opens the name change procedure, allowing politicians to debate the issue over a period of three months or more, according to the parliament's rulebook.

The procedure to complete constitutional changes is lengthy and requires several rounds of voting, with Friday's being just the first stage. The procedure should be completed by January the latest.

Syrian Army unleashes powerful assault against ISIS terrorists in southern Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) unleashed a powerful assault against the hard boyz of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) this week, targeting the latter’s positions in the al-Safa region.

Led by their 4th Division, the Syrian Arab Army fired a large number of missiles and artillery shells towards the Islamic State’s hideouts and trenches in al-Safa, while their allies from the Russian Aerospace Forces repeatedly bombed the hard boyz from the air.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Russian military and Islamic State agreed to a ceasefire earlier this week in an effort to free the hostages currently being held by the terrorist group in an unknown location.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
the deal would later collapse after the Islamic State attempted to advance their positions in the al-Safa region.

Since then, the Syrian Arab Army has been pounding the remaining Islamic State fighters in the area, while also pushing further up the steep cliffs of the al-Safa region.
