FBI Opens Aanother HRC Investigation

#5  Notice how Biden has been getting a bit more talk/exposure lately? OTOH, it's pretty late in the day.

#6  Maybe this is enough to stick this time - since apparently a lot of FBI agents have threatened to quit over the roll-over and whitewash from Comey on the previous case that was obviously thrown by him. That being said...

Someone duct tape Trumps mouth shut for the weekend please.

It seems every time we get something like this he says or does something idiotic to put the spotlight on himself and off Hillary.

Let her twist in the wind, nothing else to distract form the chorus of emails revealing her and Podesta's lies and deceits, and now hopefully so much criminal evidence that not even Obama and Comey can hide it.

Secondary Bonus: this is a nice point for the case against early voting.

#9  She is blaming the FBI and calling for the emails to be released. I'm sure WikiLeaks will be happy to reply. Something really big must be cooking. The head of DOJ pleads the 5th and now this?

#10  As bad as it seems, I'm concerned this was chosen as a manageable strand of the web. Emails everywhere, FBI lockdown of 'an active investigation', Hilarity recusing herself for a Dem 2nd stringer is easier to swallow than treason and murder.

#11  The head of DOJ pleads the 5th

I was amazed at this and further amazed that so little has been made of it.

' "Pleading the Fifth" is a colloquial term for invoking the privilege that allows a witness to decline to answer questions where the answers might incriminate him, and generally without having to suffer a penalty for asserting the privilege.'

You can only incriminate yourself when you have done something criminal.

#3  Maybe a "truth-torpedo" on its way to the Clinton Campaign? New e-mails proving criminal activity?

Wikileaks made it impossible for Comey and Company to look past this any longer. No doubt internal FBI dissension helped also.

The next 96 hours will be critical (imo).

Would the FBI expose itself to more blow-back if they didn't, this time, have incontrovertible evidence?

It is difficult to imagine the amount of corruption surrounding the Clintons and the cancer that has spread around them and into the institutions of our government. #36  My 2-cents:
1. Comey, watching the stealing of an election by those who had him, somehow, by the balls, finally had enough and played his hole card; and

HRC, when asked about this latest verisimilitude eruption by an NBC reporter, laughed it off. Comey drops one on her and that is her response?!

Either:
1. She is a freaking psychopath; or
2. The Clintons are powerful enough that they think they can make it go away.

#2  What's shocking is not what "Clinton, Inc." was doing and how they were doing it. It was rather obvious to anyone with at least half a brain, and possibly much less. How else do you explain the accumulation of $200+ MILLION in personal wealth in the span of barely 10 years-- for doing nothing of any true productive value-- after declaring to the public that they were "flat broke" after Bill's 2 terms in the WH?

What's shocking to me is how so many people in this country-- specifically, HRC voters and the #nevertrump establishment Republicans (whose high-minded, "principled" stance in this election I find increasingly irritating)-- seem to feel that it doesn't matter all that much to them. Otherwise, we would have a block of establishment Democrats pleading #neverhillary. Instead, the party hacks in the media tell us "this is how the sausage is made" in politics and we should just grow up and get over it.

If that's the case, I want none of this sausage. And I hope that Trump takes their sausage and shoves it up their collective asses until they choke on it.

Russia falls victim to massive hack which reveals it WAS pulling strings in Ukraine uprising
[DailyMail] One of Russian president Vladimir Putin's top aides has fallen victim to a massive hack that appears to show close financial and political ties between Moscow and separatist rebels in Eastern Ukraine.

More than a gigabyte of leaked emails were released by a group of Ukrainian hackers from an account used by Putin's adviser Vladislav Surkov.

The cache published by the Ukrainian group CyberHunta reveals contacts between Surkov and the pro-Russia rebels fighting Ukrainian forces.

It also comes as the United States has accused Russia of coordinating the recent hacks of the Democratic party's emails to influence the outcome of the presidential election.

A senior US intelligence official told NBC News the US had 'no role' in the hack.

Obama has commuted the sentences of 872 federal prisoners - more than the 11 previous Presidents combined
[Mail] Nearly 100 federal inmates are set to be released early after intervention from Barack Obama - meaning the outgoing President has commuted more sentences than his 11 predecessors combined.

A clemency push has sped up in recent months, and on Thursday 98 had their sentences reduced.

Obama has now cut short the sentences of 872 inmates, including 688 this year. The latest batch included 42 who were serving life sentences, the White House confirmed.

#6  The Pardon power of the Presidency is an obscure but potentially disastrous tool for an Imperial President. Envisioned as a last option to right governmental wrongs, it has increasingly been exercised for purely political motives. Turnout Time ‐ Vote for a Congress that will Impeach President
Thomas Sowell has written a column and made an argument for electing a Congress that will impeach the next POTUS and a POTUS who is impeachable. Read the article. My opinion (in yellow) follows. Feel free to comment as you like.
Thomas Sowell had a column on 10/27/16 stating that we have two dangerous candidates running for President. One will be elected. Either will likely over-reach authority and violate the law as has Obama. He argued that we should elect a Congress that can keep either of these dangerous people from doing permanent damage to this country and to this generation future generations--and future generations yet unborn. Moreover, he said that we should elect a President who is "impeachable" such as Donald Trump and not Hillary Clinton who, like Obama, is not impeachable due to breaking through perceived color barriers and glass ceilings.Has this election come down to electing the "most impeachable" POTUS because Congress will not do its duty? To elect a candidate to Congress who will do his duty is not an easy task for the voter. First, it is not so easy to determine who will be such a Congressman. Second, it is not so easy to hold his or her feet over the fire to make certain they don’t put Party over the good of the country. As we have seen in the Podesta emails, there is a concerted effort to keep citizens "uninformed and compliant." The echo chamber of the "bought" main stream media does its part to keep citizens uninformed and compliant with its endless propaganda.

So, what are the answers to these questions? Perhaps, we should follow the British system with their votes of "no-confidence." Perhaps, we should continue pursuing "Banana Republic" policies such as unilateral POTUS treaties such as Obama brought about with the Iran nuclear agreement. Eventually, the people will revolt and turn out dictators or worse (or better depending upon your perspective). The people come out with pitchforks and the equivalent of a lynching occurs. Something like an Arab Spring occurs at a great cost. So, is that the kind of government we want? Or maybe we want a military junta every now and then to flush out the corruption. Do we want an oligarchy such as appears to be going on now whereas a small group of elite, often globalists, moneyed people run things in a kind of "shadow government" like a George Soros and as well as others, manipulating things in the background clandestinely--avoiding transparency and openness. When this occurs, our representative form of government, our Republic gets subverted and weakened. When corruption occurs, it is like a cancer, it spreads and destroys our institutions. Is that what we want?

At one time, I thought Snowden and Assange were breaking the law and undermining governments. Now, after witnessing eight years of corruption and efforts to undermine the will of the people and our government by the current Executive Branch and facing the prospect of more corruption with another Clinton administration, I believe Snowden and Assange have done us a great favor by shining the light on something very sinister and evil.

Perhaps, Thomas Sowell is correct and that we should vote for the lesser of two evils? Or was it the evil of two lesser? Congress, as it stands today, would have no trouble impeaching a Republican whereas impeaching a Democrat seems to be far more difficult. And who knows? We may even end up with a POTUS who has actually built something that is under cost, on schedule and within the law?

Whether you believe they have the backbone or not is the secondary question. But if you believe you have to vote for Trump to avoid Hillary, then by that same logic you MUST vote GOP to either enable The Donald, or cripple The Beeste.

So Trump supporters, which one is it? You and your candidate spend time and effort trashing GOP congressional and senatorial candidates... Makes me wonder if you are actually on the other side.

That said, Now is the time to start setting up for Primaries next cycle. Seek out, find and vet the conservatives to do to these people what was done to Cantor in safe GOP seats.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
ND Authorities Suspect Former WH Adviser Is Keeping Feds From Pipeline Protests
[Daily Caller] Local law enforcement in North Dakota says a former White House staffer -- who is related to an important player in the Dakota Access Pipeline protests -- is using her political influence to keep federal authorities from assisting local authorities from removing demonstrators from the Dakota Access Pipeline site.

Morton County Commission Chairman Cody Schulz recently called out Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archambault saying, "The Standing Rock Tribal Council recently voted to move the large protest camp currently located on Army Corp of Engineer property to Tribal land west of the town of Cannonball."

He went on to say, "In the past two days protesters have instead begun to relocate and trespass on private property closer to the pipeline path. [Chairman Archambault] must condemn this action and do everything he can to comply with the wishes of the Standing Rock Tribal Council."

Archambault has a powerful ally who worked in the White House -- his own sister Jodi Gillette. According to The Bismarck Tribune, Gillette was a senior policy adviser on Native American Affairs For President Obama. The Tribune notes that Gillette could not work on issues related to Standing Rock because of the conflict of interest owing to her status as a tribal member and familial relation to the chairman.

I must admit, on a couple of levels, I feel a bit queasy sticking up for a news bimbo. But contrary to Breitbart's (or Gingrich) assertion Kelly didn't accuse Trump of anything. She asked a question by beginning "If Trump...". First, regardless of the merit of the allegations, it is a legitimate line of questioning. Second, if, big if, said allegations proved true the label of "predator" would be legally accurate. Finally , I congratulate Mark Lavine on his continued career as an obnoxious gadfly.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Four modern military myths
These are four military myths according to US Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley:

Myth 1: Wars of the future will be short. Our founding fathers did not intend to fight a six-year war for independence, nor did President Lincoln envision the length and cost of the American Civil War. World War I was supposed to last six weeks. In our contemporary setting, our national leaders never envisioned a war in Iraq or Afghanistan that spanned more than 15 years. Although there have been some short wars in history, most have taken much longer than originally thought. We cannot assume wars of the future will be short.

Myth 2: Wars can be won from a great distance using advanced technology. It is seductive to think that our precision stand-off munitions can alone win a war. Wars are a function of politics, politics is about people and people live on the ground. To impose political will by war, ultimately, it must be done on the ground. [Which calls to mind what military historian T. R. Fehrenbach wrote in This Kind of War, that, "you may fly over a land forever; you may bomb it, atomize it, pulverize it and wipe it clean of life--but if you desire to defend it, protect it and keep it for civilization, you must do this on the ground, the way the Roman legions did, by putting your young men in the mud."]

Myth 3: Special operations forces can do it all. Our special forces are the best in the world, but their mission is narrow and they are not designed, trained, manned, nor equipped to win wars between nation states. No one service or group can. Nations win wars and it takes the full joint force to do so.

Myth 4: Armies are easy to regenerate. Enlist a few Soldiers, train a few leaders and you have a unit ready to fight so the myth narrative goes. Leaders take years to develop the competencies and skills our Army needs in combat. A platoon sergeant requires 15 years of training and experience to be effective. A battalion commander may take 17 years. As a unit, they must also execute tasks across a range of missions, and train on those tasks with great repetition to build the synergy and cohesion needed to be the best Army in the world. Competent armies are not at all easy to generate; it takes considerable time.
Worth pondering.
I think these numbers are, just a bit, exaggerated

#1  Myth #1 https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars Look at the Post Cold War era, some are short and some are long.

Myth #2, I tend to agree

Myth #3, whether the US special forces is the best can be debated but there are not enough for most conflicts. Actually an interesting point here is that in Yom Kippur War, Israel government refused to use its special forces in battle because they were considered to be to valuable. Later they relented when the special forces demanded they be given a part.

Myth #4, no way a platoon sergeant total service is generally 7 to 15 years.
Posted by: Bernardz || 10/28/2016 5:04 Comments || Top||

#2  Myth #3: The classic SF mission is one of 'force multiplier,' a highly skilled element which could train and equipment indigenous infantry forces to accomplish the mission. Their current employment in Mosul, Iraq could be said to be a good example (Foreign Internal Defense).

Do it all? No, but that has not stopped the current administration from subverting former SF missions and dedicating SF to the (pre-Mosel) Klingon drone war against ISIS leaders.

The fight currently ongoing near Mosel proves that winning involves the employment of large numbers of infantry to seize and hold key terrain. Simply taking out key leaders will not get the job done.
Posted by: Besoeker || 10/28/2016 6:05 Comments || Top||

#3  #3 Myth

Special forces of various sorts are what the mathematicians call necessary but not sufficient. There is no doubt of the force multiplication power of excellent snipers or a Navy SEAL team. Ground attack aircraft like the A-10 make the infantry more capable of doing their job. But you can't win a war with only those elite forces.

This is really about career politicians and bureaucrats trying to find some way to use money that should be spent on defense on other things. The left does not want to have the proper kind of military because that takes resources away from their "bribe people with welfare and easy, stress-free, do nothing jobs in exchange for votes" program.

In the Cold War period, the left in Euroland was content to let the American taxpayer pay the real cost of defending their countries, thereby diverting tax revenues to "free" transportation, education, and health care programs. Worked for the politicians, worked for the people who got a standard of living well beyond what they would have had if they were honest about the true cost of fighting off the Soviet empire. Without the U.S. as their sugar daddy, no socialized healthcare, no universal college education, no cheap Eurail, etc.

The problem now is that the American left is trying to do the same thing, but there isn't any sugar daddy to fund it all and fight some sort of battle against radical Islam. This results in the huge actual government debt and the unfundable public retirement liabilities. While the Gulf War costs are a part of both of those, they are way less than half, despite DNC talking points.

Unless and until we can shrink the size of the nonmilitary public employee juggernaut to pre-Great Society levels, our debt will increase, our private sector economy will continue to decline, and we will not be able to mount an authentic defense against external threats. Unfortunately, much our population has become a bunch of postmodern, pathologically risk-averse, comfort seeking lotus eaters who value their magic government income stream more than the businesses, liberties, and lives of their private sector neighbors. It might be possible to tamp them and their hired mercenaries in the Democratic party down at some point, but right now it isn't looking too good. I think a lesson already learned by other nations the hard way is going to be learned the hard way once more, within a generation or two.

#4  A platoon sergeant requires 15 years of training and experience to be effective. A battalion commander may take 17 years.

Sort of missed out on WWII, didn't he. A lot of those were made in less than 4 years. It's called 'adapt or perish'. Very bloody, very high body count. Not the most optimal method if you're concern about your own body count, but none the less demonstratively valid.

#5  How many of the Youth in the US are "snowflakes" being prepared for life in the Univ. 'Safe zones"?
How many have purple hair and an earring or two and are into body piercing ? How many families produce babies and raise actual families among the young people? How many live in their parent's basements and are Obese and entitled?

How many can pass the O Course or do a 15 mile hike in full gear? And if you do find a few men who will take it upon themselves to defend the rest will they be abandoned by the Secretary of State and left to die by civilians with an Agenda?

And what dos it matter anyway? Butt boys and Democrats, and free stuff..

#6  I think Myth 1 is true. Wars will tend to be short (at least if politicians have any brains) because the country does not have the temperament for a long conflict, even a vital one, and the media will turn that temperament against the war as soon as a Republican is in power.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 10/28/2016 9:35 Comments || Top||

#7  Myth 1 - A couple of rough comments: 1) I disagree that our military leaders did not envision Afghanistan lasting longer than 15 years - they were talking 20 years plus in 2002. Our political leaders were/remain clueless and don't even talk Afghanistan any longer because their communities have little skin in the game. 2) Thus, wars would be shorter if the draft was in effect.
Myth 3 - While fighting the insurgencies in AF and IQ, SOF became the offensive arm of our military - kill/capture missions by the dozen every night - target generation - back out again. The BCTs drew mostly defensive mission sets and their offensive mindset atrophied - and our "manning, training, and equipping" focused on fighting a defensive FOB based war. Defensive systems (MRAPs) by the thousands, sucked up the money for replacing the M1s and Bradleys with whatever the Future Combat Systems should look like - something that win a war rather than just survive.
Myth 4 - 15-17 years is ridiculous. Seven years is the conventional wisdom in the line units to produce an effective leader and this time can be reduced if you recruit a more mature soldier (one with life experience - mid 20s). 18 year olds, unless they played a lot of high school ball and learned those disciplines, are hard to craft into leaders quickly, well, because they are 18 and do what 18 year olds do.

#10  There is "war fighting" and there is "nation building" - and we tend to try to use the same people for both tasks, and that approach is nuts..

IS-Linked Group Abandons Somali Town after Brief Occupation
[AnNahar] A breakaway group of around 50 Somali turbans who declared loyalty to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists abandoned a small port town on Thursday a day after occupying it, residents and an official said.

"The turbans left town early this morning but they are not far away," said Abdiweli Adan, an elder in a town close to Qandala which the IS-linked group occupied on Wednesday.

He said the group's black flag still flew over government buildings in the small seaside town on the Gulf of Aden coast of Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, a semi-autonomous state in northern Somalia.

"Some fishermen saw them staying close by in mountainous enclaves," said Adan, who added the turbans left as they had arrived, peacefully.

A security official in the regional capital Bossaso said the threat of an arriving force of Puntland soldiers had scared the turbans off.

"Puntland sent hundreds of special forces to deal with the terrorists. Unfortunately, they have run away even before the forces reached the town," said Cabdirisak Mohammed, a security official in the capital Bossaso, about 70 kilometers (45 miles) west of Qandala.

Mohammed dismissed the takeover of Qandala as "a desperate attempt to draw attention."

The turbans -- led by former Shabaab holy man Abdiqadir Mumin -- switched allegiance from al-Qaeda to IS a year ago but have done little since apart from issuing occasional promotional videos.

Nevertheless, in late August the U.S. State Department named Mumin a "global terrorist" making him a potential target for U.S. drone strikes which are regularly carried out against jihadists in Somalia.

Abdukadir Said, a trader from Qandala said aircraft flying over the town may have spooked the krazed killers. "There were aircraft hovering over Qandala during the last six hours" before they left, he said.

Once a pirate stronghold, Qandala is an ancient trading and fishing town whose main significance is its proximity to Yemen, across the Gulf of Aden, where al-Qaeda and IS groups both operate. In the past the Shabaab has been resupplied with weapons and fighters sent from Yemen.

2 Top Al-Qaeda leaders targeted in US airstrikes in Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] US drone strikes has reportedly targeted two of al-Qaeda terrorist network’s top leaders in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
of Afghanistan.

The officials in Pentagon have said the two top al-Qaeda leaders have likely been killed in the Arclight airstrike but the US military in Afghanistan is still assessing the results of the weekend Arclight airstrikes.

According to reports, at least 15 holy warriors including two Arab nationals and several Pak Taliban fighers were killed in the Arclight airstrikes.

Pentagon front man Peter Cook quoted by AFP said one of the targets was Faruq al-Qatani, a Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
i national who is al-Qaeda’s leader for northeastern Afghanistan and who was assigned to reestablish safe havens in the country.

Cook further added that other, Bilal al-Utabi, also was involved in reestablishing safe havens from which the bandidos holy warriors could threaten the West while recruiting and training foreign fighter.

"If these strikes are determined to be successful, eliminating these core leaders of al-Qaeda will disrupt efforts to plot against the United States and our allies and partners around the world, reduce the threat to our Afghan partners, and assist their efforts to deny al-Qaeda safe haven in Afghanistan," Cook said.

Two Qaida Leaders Killed in Afghanistan, Afghan Spy Agency Confirms

[AnNahar] Two top al-Qaeda leaders in Afghanistan were killed in a U.S. drone attack, the nation's spy agency confirmed Thursday, in a major blow to the group as it seeks to re-establish safe havens in the country.

Washington said the strikes on Sunday targeted Farouq al-Qahtani, al-Qaeda's emir for northeastern Afghanistan, and his deputy Bilal al-Utabi, calling it the most significant attack against the group's leadership in several years.

Multiple Hellfire missiles "leveled" two different compounds in Kunar province where the men were believed to be hiding, U.S. officials said Wednesday, without confirming if the strikes were successful.

Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
offered confirmation of their death on Thursday, adding that a third senior member of the group had also been killed.

"The attack was carried out in coordination with NDS," the spy agency said in a statement, without naming the third leader.

The Pentagon had been actively hunting Qahtani for four years. He had longstanding ties with the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now among the dear departed, though not among the dearest...
before his death in the 2011 U.S. raid on his Pakistain compound.

Qahtani had operated in Afghanistan since at least 2009 and was responsible for planning attacks against U.S. and coalition forces in the country, officials said. His deputy Utabi, was seen as the second- or third-most senior al-Qaeda leader in Afghanistan, the official said.

McCain urges Turkey to end its attack on Syrian Kurds
[ARA News] Erbil – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on Thursday called on Turkey to stop its attacks on Syrian Kurds, while planning by the US-led coalition to take Raqqa from ISIS continues.

“The United States has a longstanding relationship with Turkey, but a series of recent events have raised concerns about the fundamentals of our relations. I have long argued that the Obama administration’s feckless approach to Syria has contributed to a strategic disaster on Turkey’s doorstep,” McCain said.

“At the same time, the Turkish government’s continued attacks on Syrian Kurds are destabilizing and troubling,” he said.

“These Kurdish fighters have shown themselves to be willing and capable partners in the fight against the Islamic State in Syria, and our continued cooperation serves the national security interests of both the United States and countries in the region, including Turkey,” the US senator said.

“I urge the Turkish government to refrain from further attacks against Kurdish groups in Syria,” McCain stated.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on 26 October said that they would attack the Kurds in Manbij. “We will do whatever necessary if they do not return back across the other side of the Euphrates River,” Erdoğan said.

Kurdish officials said that recent attacks by Turkey and its local allies are aimed to disrupt the Raqqa operation.

Moreover, Turkey told US officials to keep the People’s Protection Units (YPG) out of Raqqa, although the US said that the YPG is one of the most effective forces against ISIS and its fighters are needed for the Raqqa operation.

“The only force that is capable on any near frame — near-term timeline is — are the Syrian Democratic Forces, of which the YPG are a significant portion,” Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend, commander, Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve said on Thursday.

“So, we’re negotiating, we’re planning, we’re having talks with Turkey and we’re gonna take this in steps. And we think there’s an imperative to get isolation in place around Raqqa because our intelligence feeds tell us that there is significant external operations attacks planning going on, emanating centralized in Raqqa,” Townsend said.

“We think it’s very important to get isolation in place around Raqqa to start controlling that environment on a pretty short timeline. So, we’re gonna take the force that we have and we will go to Raqqa soon with that force,” he said.

“The Syrian Democratic Forces, to include the Kurdish YPG and the Syrian Arab Corps, will all be part of that force to go and place isolation at Raqqa.”

Kurdish forces kill 30 Turkish-backed rebels in northeast Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Kurdish-led "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF) reportedly killed 30+ Salafist tough guys from Jabhat al-Shamiya in northeastern Aleppo on Wednesday.

According to Kurdish social media activists, the Syrian Democratic Forces killed the 30+ Turkish-backed rebels during their swift assault at the village of Tal Madiq in northeastern Aleppo.

The capture of Tal Madiq on Wednesday came 24 hours after the Syrian Democratic Forces expelled the remaining Turkish-backed rebels from nearby Tal Jijan.

In response to the Syrian Democratic Forces' advance in northeast Aleppo, the Turkish Army began shelling their positions in order to punish them for attacking their allies.

The man identified only as Shaas al-M. allegedly joined the jihadist group in 2013 and took part in various military operations in Syria, they said in a statement.

Prosecutors declined to tell AFP when and how the suspect entered Germany last year, which in 2015 took in nearly 900,000 asylum seekers, around 40 percent of them from war-ravaged Syria.

Once he arrived, "he inspected potential attack targets during stays in Berlin and arranged to send at least one person to Syria as a fighter."

"In addition, he served as a contact man for potential attackers in Germany and indicated he was prepared to carry out an attack in Germany," they added.

Benghazi militants admit it was their supply ships sunk in Misrata on Sunday
The Benghazi Revolutionaries Shoura Council has protested that two of its vessels have been sunk in Misrata where they were tied up to a quay belonging to LISCO, the Libyan Iron and Steel company.

This is the first time that the BRSC has admitted owning craft which have almost certainly been running weapons, supplies and reinforcements between Misrata and the Benghazi resort of Ganfouda where the army claims to have completely cut off the BRSC and its allies, the IS and Ansar Al-Sharia terrorist groups.

In their statement Number 50, the BRSC has described last Sunday’s attack on their vessels as cowardly and vowed to revenge themselves on those who had carried it out. It did not reveal how the boats had been sunk.

It said “While the BRSC is busy challenging the media and military conspiracies against it, we were surprised by the explosions early Sunday morning on boats at Misrata port belong to the BRSC”.

The militia then went on to warn the “good people of Misrata” not to give any support to the Libyan army and “its factions”.

There was jubilation in February when the army took the small port of Mreisa, which had been the militants’ key supply base. It was widely assumed that the BRSC and its terrorist allies in their main Ganfouda-Gwarsha concentration and downtown outposts in Sabri and Suq Al-Hud would collapse for want of supplies. That did not happen because the weapons, ammunition and men continued to arrive and wounded were evacuated.

In April two other vessels believed to be used to supply the BRSC and its allies in Benghazi were sunk at their moorings, also on the LISCO quay in what were thought to be the explosion of limpet mines. A promised Misratan enquiry is not known to have reported.

There have been naval and air patrols off the Benghazi coast, one of which this June led to a major explosion on board an arms smuggling vessel.

All or any of which may or may not be true, but we no longer find it fantastic. The senior bureaucrats are so enamored of their right to rule and pay themselves annual bonuses – often amounting to more than the reenlistment bonuses they now want to claw back from the veterans — that they are desperate now that they are threatened. I don’t usually pay attention to “vast conspiracy” notions, but this isn’t that. There is no conspiracy involved.

Violence flares in Turkey's tense southeast after mayors' arrest

...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's security forces and five Kurdish faceless myrmidons were killed on Thursday in festivities in the southeast where unrest has flared since the arrest this week of two popular mayors.

Two soldiers were killed in a clash near Hani, a town outside Diyarbakir, the region's biggest city, security sources said. A third died in a firefight near Cukurca near the Iraqi border, where five faceless myrmidons were also killed, they said.

A soldier was killed by a homemade bomb in Bingol, 140 km north of Diyarbakir, and a member of a state-backed militia was killed in Batman province to the east.

Violence has escalated in the 15 months since the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) called off a two-year ceasefire, and the arrest of Diyabakir Mayor Gultan Kisanak and her co-mayor Firat Anli late on Tuesday on terrorism charges has caused further resentment.

More on Syrian airstrike in Idlib
More than 26 civilians were killed yesterday in air raids carried out by warplanes that are most likely to belong to the Syrian regime on the village of Hass in the southern countryside of Idlib.

Moaz Al-Shami, a media activist who visited the site of the massacre immediately after the air raids, said that “Syrian warplanes carried out seven air raids on the town of Hass and specifically on a group of schools and institutes there at 11.30am yesterday. More than 26 people including 12 children were killed and 40 others were injured, some critically.

Residents of Hass are still shocked and are puzzled about why a group of schools and institutes, and the town as a whole, were targeted considering that they have been living in peace for many months.

Videos circulated by activists on social media networks show a number of children weeping and refusing to return to their classes. Other pictures showed dead children lying on the ground along with their books and school bags.

The National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces issued a statement saying that the “Warplanes belonging to the Syrian regime and Russia carried out an attack with very explosive missiles carried by parachutes on a group of schools and a local market in the town Hass in the Idlib countryside. 26 people were killed as a result and most of them were students and teachers. In addition to this, many people were injured.”

The Coalition added that “Russia and the regime’s continued attempts to intentionally, deliberately and systematically target centres offering services confirms that there are attempts to kill as many people possible in order to weaken the rebels and force them to accept compromises outside the political process”.

On his part, the director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdulrahman said that 22 civilians were killed and dozens more were wounded in six air raids, and that it is not known whether the raids were carried out by the Syrian regime or Russia. He continued by saying that the raids targeted a school and its surroundings in the Idlib countryside, and that the dead included seven children who were inside the school that was damaged by the raids.

Kurds won’t enter Mosul City
Bet they will if Iraqi forces need reinforcements.
[ARA News] Erbil – Lieutenant General Jabbar Yawar, Secretary-General of the KRG Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs and the Spokesperson of the Kurdistan Region’s armed forces, told ARA News that after liberating Bashiqa District from ISIS, the Kurdish forces will not go to Mosul city.

“According to the agreement with Baghdad, the Peshmerga’s forces will create a line [of defence], while the Iraqi army will advance further. We will not go to the centre of Mosul,” General Yawar said. “Only Iraqi army, federal police and local police will ever the city.”

Kurdish Peshmerga forces have surrounded the town of Bashiqa, and today took the village of Fadiliye, saving civilians from the grip of ISIS. However, the city itself has not been taken yet.

Civilians in the Fadiliye Village welcomed the Peshmerga forces with white flags, and described them as “liberating forces”.

After Bashiqa, Peshmerga forces will only assist Iraqi forces as part of the Mosul operation, although in the future Peshmerga forces will also play a role in liberating southern Sinjar and Hawija, in northern Iraq, from ISIS.

The Peshmerga spokesperson also denied reports that Turkey was part of the Mosul operation.

“No, there are no relations; Turkey is not part of the planned operations. We have no relations with Turkey,” General Yawar told ARA News in an exclusive interview on Thursday.

“The Ministry of Peshmerga has no relations with Turkey; we only have agreement with the [US-led] coalition and the Iraqi government [regarding the ongoing battle for Mosul],” he stressed.

Nevertheless, ARA News sources confirm that Turkey-backed Sunni Arab fighters are part of the Mosul operation, but not the Turkish army itself.

Furthermore, the Peshmerga spokesperson said that the Hawija operation “has not started yet”, although there has been an agreement to launch it earlier.

“Battle for Hawija needs a lot of forces, that’s why the operation is a bit late, but it will happen,” he concluded.

40 Insurgents Killed In Helmand
General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai, commander of 215 Maiwand military corps, said on Thursday that four Taliban safe havens were destroyed and 40 insurgents were killed after government and foreign troops conducted airstrikes near Lashkargah city.

He stated the operation was launched in the are of the second and third police check-posts of Lashkargah city.

"We launched an operation last night in the Sorgadar area of Lashkargah city in which insurgents fought us. Their four strongholds, along with all their equipment, were destroyed," Ahmadzai said.

Meanwhile, a number of soldiers fighting on the front lines told TOLOnews that continued air strikes are needed to defeat the insurgents and to push them back from the city.

Security forces say they have had good achievements as Qahre Maiwand operation continued.

"Taliban was prepared to attack us, but the foreign troops' air crafts came and bombed them," said a soldier in front line.

"Taliban resisted and continued firing, but air crafts came and bombed them and their bodies remained here. The bodies were still there in the morning. They had lots of causalities and we succeeded," said another soldier.

In the past week, Taliban launched heavy attacks in a bid to take control of the city. Some Lashkargah residents left their homes. But some residents say life has returned to normal in the city.

Four suspected terrorists die in Quetta
At least four suspected terrorists were killed in Quetta’s Hazar Ganji area on Thursday night in an exchange of fire with security forces.

“Security forces conducted a raid on a compound in the Hazar Ganji area of Quetta,” said a police official.

The security official added that the terrorists fired upon the security forces, after which the forces retaliated.

Three security officials were injured after the terrorists lobbed a hand grenade, said the police official.

More security personnel were summoned to the area and a cordon was established.

Earlier this week, heavily-armed militants wearing suicide vests stormed a police academy in Quetta, killing at least 61 people and wounding at least 117, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said Tuesday, in the deadliest attack on a security installation in the country's history.

Three gunmen burst into the sprawling academy, targeting sleeping quarters home to some 700 recruits, and sent terrified young men aged between 15 and 25 fleeing.

Communication intercepts showed the attack was carried out by Al-Alimi faction of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) militant group, IG Frontier Corps (FC) Major General Sher Afgan said.

VP Candidate Mike Pence's Campaign Plane Slides off Runway at LaGuardia
[NBCNewYork] Vice presidential candidate Mike Pence's campaign plane slid off the runway after landing at LaGuardia Airport Thursday evening, tearing up two tracks of concrete before coming to rest on a patch of grass.
The governor was checked to make sure he was OK, but no injuries were reported, according to an NBC campaign embed on the scene.

The plane, which was coming from Fort Dodge, Iowa -- about a three-hour flight from New York -- made a rough impact when it landed. The pilot slammed on the brakes and travelers could smell burning rubber.

Pence says mud splashed on the front windows of the cockpit.

Houthi commander dies in Taiz
Taiz-A senior Houthi military operative, who goes by the nom de guerre of Abu Majed, was killed in clashes with popular resistance fighters on Wednesday in west Yemen’s Taiz city, the Yemeni army announced.

Resistance media center said that Abu Majed, a senior Houthi military operative, has been killed along with a number of other insurgents.

His death came as Houthi militias ramped up their indiscriminate missile attacks on populated neighborhoods of Taiz.

Houthi militias and militants loyal to ousted former President Ali Abdullah Saleh targeted the national army and Popular Resistance sites on the outskirts of strategic Han Mountain in the west, battlefield sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.

“They were aiming to regain this mountain along with several other sites, yet the forces were able to confront them and inflict human and material losses, including the military leader Nasser al-Kaait,” sources added.

In a related development, Houthi militias and Saleh’s forces continued their attacks on Taiz neighborhoods, especially the eastern fronts, which witnessed many conflicts as the militias tried to control different sites for the Popular Resistance.

Moreover, violent confrontations were renewed at al-Shaqab front, south Taiz, as militias tried to advance towards army and resistance bases accompanied by heavy artillery cover by militias targeting civilians’ houses.

These confrontations left Abdulmalek Ahmed Ibrahim, 60, dead. Seven of his family members, some of them children, were injured.

Why is Iran’s Qassem Suleimani requesting to fight in Iraq’s Tal Afar?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi sources reported that Qassem Soleimani, commander of Iranian Quds Force, left Kurdistan and arrived to Baghdad two days ago.

He reportedly wants to discuss the participation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the battle of Tal Afar, a city in the north of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Analysts view this step as part of the Iranian strategy aiming to make the area a pathway for Iranian troops moving from Iraq to Syria.

Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization militias are currently situated on the outskirts of Tal Afar, on the borders between Iraq, Syria and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
. Observers believe that Iran made a strategic choice to secure a passage into Syria, down to its coastline on the Mediterranean.

Iran is supporting Bashir al-Assad’s regime and trying to secure a vital line to help its troops in Syria through Iraq.

Suleimani will reportedly supervise military axes, in which the Popular Mobilization Force is participating and trying to seize areas from ISIS, including the district of Tal Afar, in the northern side of Mosul dominated by Shiite Turkmen.

Controlling Tal Afar will strengthen the coordination between the Revolutionary Guards, the Popular Mobilization militias and the Syrian regime army backed by Iran.

Iranian military officials said have said that "Iran and its allies believe that the battle of Mosul is crucial and will affect the battles in Aleppo and other regions in Syria".

The news comes in line with the confirmations of Iraqi sources that "the Quds Force commander, Soleimani, held meetings with militia leaders in Baghdad two days ago, to discuss their participation in the Battle of Mosul within the southern axis known as the axis of Qayyarah.

Syrian Democratic Forces accuse Turkey-backed rebels of ethnic cleansing
"Once you open the Gates of Hell, you don't get to chose which Demons emerge..."
[ARA News] Aleppo – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have accused Turkey of carrying out an ethnic cleansing campaign in northern Syria and called for an investigation.

The Kurdish-led SDF also accused Turkey of bombing their positions while they fight ISIS.

Tensions between the SDF forces and Turkey-backed rebels have been growing after Turkey said they would take the cities of al-Bab and Manbij in northern Syria.

Turkey’s military and allied rebels of the Euphrates Shield also attacked SDF positions near Tel Rifaat and Afrin in the northern countryside of Aleppo earlier this week, but failed to advance.

“Turkey, with its militias, emptied the population of al-Rai town and the nearby villages, displacing thousand son people and preventing them from returning,” SDF spokesman Shervan Darwish said on Thursday. “Turkey accuses our forces of the ethnic cleansing. However, Turkey with its allied rebels are committing criminal acts,” he said.

Furthermore, the official said the groups backed by Turkey are jihadists.

“Ideologically, militias led by Turkey in Syria are a copy of ISIS. These groups are all affiliated with the Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham and Jabhat al-Nusra in Idlib,” Darwish said.

“We call on the international community to visit the town of al-Rai and surrounding villages in order to investigate these crimes,” he said. “The world should be more serious to fight the mentality of terrorism and extremism.”

The SDF spokesperson said the groups that Turkey supports are anti-Western, unlike the Kurdish-led SDF forces.

“These extremist groups expelled the US military from al-Rai, calling the West ‘infidel and Crusader’, the same slogans raised by ISIS,” he added.

NDS rescue hostage in Balkh as captors demanded AFN 6 million ransom
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan intelligence operatives rescued a hostage in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan as the captors demanded AFN 6 million in ransom for his release.

The National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) said the hostage was identified as Rafiullah son of Faqir Mohammad who was kidnapped two kidnappers from the vicinity of Balkh province.

NDS further added that the hostage was released during an operation and was safely returned to his family.

This comes as the Afghan intelligence said last week at least 21 individuals involved in major kidnappings in capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
Kidnap for ransom cases still continue in parts of the country despite the Afghan intelligence nabbed two MAFIA bosses involved in major kidnappings who were later executed by the government.

The two top MAFIA leaders, Habib Istalif and Raees Khudaidad, were executed late in 2014 and early in 2015 after they were incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
by intelligence operatives.

The NDS operatives released a hostage during an operation conducted in central Wardak province of Afghanistan late in the month of February.

The operation was conducted as the kidnappers were demanding a huge ransom of $1 million from the family of the hostage, forcing the intelligence operatives to intervene and secure his release.

The "intense and heavy" exchange of fire continued for 11 hours on Harpal and Chaprar sectors on the Working Boundary, it said.

Like what? Squat ?

They ARE Pakis. And Pakis are noted for what in combat? In Bangla Desh the Pakis surrendered a Whole Country in 13 days after fighting for one day and running for two weeks.93,000 Paki prisoners were loaded on cattle cars and shipped to the Rann of Kutch desert where they were auctioned off over six years back to the Mighty Pak Army for money and concessions. The Paci military is not known for its achievements. They have LOST ALL their recent wars, every one.

Sensational expose: Security leaks confirm 98.7% Pakistanis are foreign agents
NADEEM F. PARACHA
Islamabad: Dawn, the much preferred media group to receive sensitive leaks, has become privy to yet another sensational leak.

The leak has come in the shape of a hefty document prepared from sources which include various local and foreign intelligence agencies.

The document/report claims that 98.7% Paks are agents of one foreign intelligence agency or the other.

According to the report, about 40.2% Paks are Indian agents; 33.3% are American agents; 11% are British agents; 6.2% are Iranian agents; 3.1% are Afghan agents; 3% are dual Indian and American agents; 1.1% are Guatemalan agents;
Oh dear. One doesn't quite know what to do with that bit of information.
and at least one Pak is a Ugandan agent.
Maybe it's because I'm using a several generations old iPhone, but I ran those numbers twice, both times getting 97.9% plus that one Ugandan agent. Then again, Mr. Wife, who is not so handicapped, got the same sum.
Our investigation confirms that the report was leaked by the Ugandan agent after his monthly stipend was halted by the Ugandan government due to his failure to recruit Paks other than himself.

We are still trying to determine what Uganda’s intelligence agency wanted from him.

But our initial inquiry suggests that it had something to do with mangoes.

Cricket players should offer prayers instead of doing push-ups, suggests PML-N lawmaker
Couldn't say for sure, but I don't think this one is by Nadeem F. Paracha
[DAWN] A PML-N politician during a National Assembly committee meeting on Wednesday said cricket players should offer prayers instead of doing push-ups following a victory.

MNA Rana Muhammad Afzal said during an Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee meeting that while physical movement was a healthy activity, "it would have been better if the players offered nawafil (special prayers) instead of doing press-ups on the victory".

Questions were raised over the cricket team's unusual celebrations during the meeting, as the politician wondered why Misbah and his men did push-ups only when the team won and remained silent when they lost.

"What message are Misbah-ul-Haq and other players giving to the world by doing push-ups?" asked Afzal.

Pakistain Cricket Board (PCB) Executive Committee Chairman Najam Sethi earlier told the meeting that cricket players 'had been stopped' from performing push-ups after winning matches. He later clarified in a tweet that the celebrations were done "at the discretion of players".

"Sajda or pushups are done at the discretion of players," Sethi said. "PCB highly appreciates the fitness training facilities of the Pakistain Army, utilised thrice in six years."

CIA captures gangster involved in ghastly crimes
[DAWN] LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) claims to have nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
a criminal who, police said, was wanted for killing many people including the father of notorious gangster of yesteryear Tipu Truckanwala.

Known as a "symbol of terror", Abdul Waheed was wanted in murder, liquidation attempt, terrorism and extortion cases many cop shoppes in the scenic provincial capital had been pursuing against him.

A police source said Waheed was the last "top-wanted criminal" among his colleagues including Humayun Gujjar, Maqsood, Bhola Sanyara, Mohammad Aslam and Shafiq Baba all of whom would freely move around the city a few decades ago.

About his last major criminal act, he said, Waheed had killed his five rivals in the sessions court of Lahore besides injuring many others including Tipu Truckanwala. Tipu, who was later rubbed out in another incident, was going to appear in the murder case of his father in the sessions court along with his lover companions when Waheed and his accomplices had ambushed them.

Waheed, said the source, remained absconding for the last 22 years or so.
He was also involved in other high-profile cases in which some of the notorious criminals were killed in ’encounters’. Waheed, said the source, remained absconding for the last 22 years or so.

Saddar Division CIA DSP Anwar Saeed Kingra confirmed Waheed’s arrest saying he was the last notorious criminal facing the charges of being involved in high-profile cases. "He had settled in Sri Lanka, where he was running his sports business," Mr Kingra told Dawn.

He said 45 days ago he (Waheed) came back to Pakistain and purchased a mobile phone SIM in his name which led police to his hideout.

"We traced him through calls and finally captured him in Lohari Gate in a raid," he said, adding that the gangster confessed to committing heinous crimes including murder of Hanif, Bhola Sanyara and Shafiq Baba. He had also worked for Tipu Truckanwala but later turned his foe when Tipu slapped his elder brother, the DSP said.

During the course of interrogation, the DSP said, the gangster also confessed to killing Tipu’s father in the sessions court and said he also wanted to kill Tipu but failed to reach him because of a motorcade of gunnies surrounding him.

Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin: 1 die

1 dead in liquor store grenade attack

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – Iraqi media outlets reported on Thursday, that five persons were either killed or wounded in a bomb blast that targeted a liquor store in central Baghdad.

Al Sumaria News stated, “Today, unidentified gunmen attacked a liquor store near the national theater in Karada area, in central Baghdad, using a hand grenade, killing one person and wounding four others, as well as inflicting material damage to the shop.”

“Security forces rushed to the area of incident, and transferred the body to the forensic medicine department and the wounded to a nearby hospital,” Al Sumaria added.

Earlier this week, Iraqi Parliament voted to ban the sale, import and production of alcoholic beverages, while the supporters of the decree said that availability of alcohols contradicts Islam and is unconstitutional.

Russia opposes Syria sanctions after UN gas attacks probe
[FRANCE24] Russia on Thursday dismissed as "unconvincing" the findings of a UN-led investigation showing that Syrian forces had carried out three chemical attacks, and said no sanctions should be imposed.

"We believe that the proof is not there for any punitive action to be taken. It's simply not there," Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin told news hounds following a closed-door Security Council meeting.

A joint United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
-Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) panel concluded that government forces carried out three chlorine gas attacks on villages in 2014 and 2015.

It was the first time an international probe blamed Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
's forces after years of denial from Damascus.

But Churkin told the council that the findings were not strong enough to trigger sanctions.

The conclusions "in most cases... are not substantiated by sufficient testimonial basis, first of all material proof, they are full of contradictions and therefore unconvincing," he said, according of a text of his remarks.

The findings are "not definitive, have no legally binding force and cannot serve as accusatory conclusions for taking legal decisions," he added.

Britannia and La Belle France pressed demands for sanctions, arguing that UN resolutions provided for such action in response to the use of chemical weapons.

Fears of increased fighting in Tripoli
[Libya Herald] There are growing fears of renewed fighting between Zawia and the neighbouring Wirshefana district following the murder of three Zawia men two days ago. A Wirshefana gang has been accused on the killing the three civilians at Syed between Zawia and Janzour. Reports from Zawia say that local militia units are mobilising against the Wirshefana. Photos of three tanks held by the Zawians being prepared for attack have appeared on social media sites.

Threats against the Wirshefana have also been made by the Fursan Janzour (“Janzour Knights”) brigade in its Facebook page.

Both Janzur and Zawia are deeply hostile to the Wirshefana, their mutual neighbour. It was largely for this reason that both supported the now defunct pro-GNC Libya Dawn alliance while the Wirshefana allied themselves to the House of Representatives and Khalifa Hafter.

The deadly attacks against the Wirshefana two years ago involving mainly Zawia (and Janzour) forces resulted in hundreds of dead and wounded, and there have been regular if intermittent clashes since.

The hostility between the Zawia and the Wirshefana is also the main reason for the continued closure of the coastal road west of Tripoli.

Jury acquits leaders of Oregon standoff of federal charges
To Charger, FrankG and others who posted. Thanks. Between myself and other mods we managed to delete all the stories. Sorry about that.
PORTLAND, Ore. – The leaders of an armed group who seized a national wildlife refuge in rural Oregon were acquitted Thursday in the 41-day standoff that brought new attention to a long-running dispute over control of federal lands in the U.S. West.

A jury found brothers Ammon and Ryan Bundy not guilty of possessing a firearm in a federal facility and conspiring to impede federal workers from their jobs at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, 300 miles southeast of Portland where the trial took place. Five co-defendants also were tried one or both of the charges.

Despite the acquittal, the Bundys were expected to stand trial in Nevada early next year on charges stemming from another high-profile standoff with federal agents. Authorities rounding up cattle at their father Cliven Bundy's ranch in 2014 because of unpaid grazing fees released the animals as they faced armed protesters.

The brothers are part of a Nevada ranching family embroiled in a lengthy fight over the use of public range, and their occupation drew an international spotlight to a uniquely American West dispute: federal restrictions on ranching, mining and logging to protect the environment. The U.S. government, which controls much of the land in the West, says it tries to balance industry, recreation and wildlife concerns to benefit all.

Possessing firearms in a federal facility, strategy by the defense would be interesting to find out about.

This should strengthen counter legal activities regarding the unjustified murder of Robert Finicum.

US: Iranian arms shipments to Yemen stopped
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Warships from the US Navy and allied nations have intercepted four weapons shipments from Iran to war-ravaged Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
since April 2015, a US admiral said Thursday.

Yemen has been rocked by conflict since Iran-backed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels overran the capital Sanaa and other large parts of the country in 2014, prompting military intervention by an Arab coalition in March last year in support of the internationally recognized government.

The United States and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
have accused Iran of arming the krazed killers, and while Tehran denies the charges, the coalition has since enforced maritime and air controls over the Arabian Peninsula country.

"Either US ships or coalition ships... intercepted four weapons shipments from Iran to Yemen," said US Vice Admiral Kevin Donegan.

"We know they came from Iran and we know the destination," he told news hounds at an undisclosed military base in Southwest Asia.

Donegal said the shipments contained thousands of AK-47 assault rifles, anti-tank missiles, sniper rifles and "other pieces of other equipment, higher-end weapons systems".

Naval officials were able to determine the destination of the boats' by analyzing GPS settings and interviewing the crew.

One of the shipments had been validated by the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
as being an illegal weapons shipment, said Donegal.

His comments come after the US military's Central Command chief General Joseph Votel said last week Iran may have played a role in suspected Houthi missile attacks this month against US warships in the Red Sea.

"We believe that Iran is connected to this in some way," Donegan said.

Given the heavy volume of traffic around the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf, the three-star admiral said "plenty" of other shipments would have gone through to Yemen.

The arms seizures came after Iran in April 2015 tried to send a convoy of seven ships, guarded by two Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps vessels, to Yemen.

Donegan said these were filled with coastal-defense cruise missiles, explosives and other weapons.

The Shiite Houthi rebels are believed to be behind this month's attacks in which surface-to-surface missiles were fired at the USS Mason on at least two occasions.

In response, US cruise missiles on October 13 struck Houthi radar sites believed to have been used to target the weapons.

The Mason and two other warships were likely targeted in a third missile attack on October 15, but officials have not conclusively confirmed what the threat was or where it was coming from.

Mental hospital faces blame for gruesome Taif murder
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The family of the man who decapitated his parents are blaming Shihar Mental Hospital for the horrific incident.

Abdullah al-Shihry, the murderer’s uncle, said his nephew was a patient at Shihar Mental Health Hospital.

"The hospital released my nephew before his treatment was completed. They were well aware that he was mentally unstable and they released him. My nephew was not on drugs when he committed the horrific crime. He used to be a public sector employee.

Five years ago, he was diagnosed with a mental illness. He was fired from his job as a result," said al-Shihry.

He said the entire family witnessed the aftermath of the gruesome murder.

"We saw a pool of blood around the scattered body parts of my sister and her husband. My nephew was standing there covered in blood. We asked what happened and he said he beat up his own parents before stabbing them with a knife and decapitating them," said al-Shihry.

"My nephew couldn’t say a word. He was silent the entire time he was being questioned by the police. The police took him to Shihar Mental Health Hospital again. Even under the supervision of doctors, my nephew still isn’t talking," said al-Shihry.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
US charges 61 over India-based scam involving 15,000 victims
[Iran Press TV] The US Justice Department has charged 61 people and entities with involvement in a major India-based scam that targeted thousands of Americans.

The scheme involved Indian call centers, where some workers called American citizens and convinced them to pay their non-existent debts by impersonating Internal Revenue Service (IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
), immigration and other federal officials, the Justice Department said in a statement on Thursday.

Some victims were even offered short-term loans or grants on condition of providing good-faith deposits or payment of a processing fee.

The scammers had stolen more than $300 million from at least 15,000 unsuspecting citizens, the department noted.

The victims’ money was laundered by an American network of criminals who used debit cards or wire transfers under fake identities, the indictment said.

Federal officials placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
20 people across America on Thursday. Additionally, 32 individuals and five call centers in India were charged with connection to the case.

US Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell said in a press briefing that Washington was looking forward extraditing the suspects from India to face jail terms.

"It's really important for the scammers in India to know that the United States is looking at this, is watching them and they could, if they engage in that activity, be extradited to the United Sates and could sit in jail ... for several years," she said.

In a bill of indictment for the scammers, the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas had pointed to scare tactics employed by the operators of call centers in Ahmedabad, in the Indian state of Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
They "threatened potential victims with arrest, imprisonment, fines or deportation if they did not pay taxes or penalties to the government," it read.

The extent of the scam was so vast that major federal organizations such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Treasury, Homeland Security, US Secret Service and police had to help with the investigation, according to the Justice Department.

Pakistan fixed 2009 elections in favour of Karzai, Pak Senator claims
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A Pak senator has claimed the country fixed the 2009 Afghanistan's Caped Presidential Elections in the favour of the former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
Senator Mushahid Hussain made the revelation during an interview with a locla newspaper.

Pointing towards Pakistain’s role in shaping the polling results, Senator Hussain explicitly told The Express that "the election, we know how to rig, and they were duly rigged in favour of Karzai."

The Senator further added that he had told American officials that Karzai was smarter than any of them and had the capacity to outsmart and still survive.

"President Hamid Karzai knew that Americans were gunning for him. He switched from America to Pakistain, earned a good will, and there were three million Afghan refugees in Pakistain and we were supposed to be holding their elections, and all the threemillion voted for Karzai," he said.

He also also asserted that President B.O.’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistain, Richard Holbrooke met with him in Lahore in 2009 before the presidential elections in Afghanistan in August.

"Holbrooke took out a notepad and he said to me, ’Tell me who should be the next president of Afghanistan," Mushahid said he found the remark very arrogant and pompous. "I said, Holbrooke, are you deciding the presidency today? Is it just pick and choose? It’s not going to happen," he said.

The 2009 Presidential Elections ended in Karzai’s favour after his rival Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
decided to pull out of the vote during the second round of the election.

Abdullah had said the decision was taken "in the best interests of the country".

In a gathering organized late in 2009, Abdullah made it clear he did not want to provoke a confrontation with Karzai or risk partisan violence.

ISIS repels several assaults at the gates of Mosul

[ALMASDARNEWS] With the campaign to liberate djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
nearing week two, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
claimed to have fended off several Peshmerga and Iraqi Army attacks south, east and north of the ISIS stronghold on Tuesday.

A convoy of some 40 Peshmerga armored vehicles attempted to storm Umar Qabshi village, northeast of Mosul, but encountered fierce ISIS resistance and were forced to withdraw after an hour-long battle.

Skirmishes were also observed at Qarqush (Al-Hamdaniyah) as the Iraqi Army's 9th Division clashed with a few dozen ISIS turbans still held up in the town. At their closest, the Iraqi Armed Forces on the eastern flank of Mosul are 12 kilometers from the city.

A report from al-Sumaria TV stating the Iraqi Army had entered the city of Mosul itself proved false; however, the Iraqi Army's 16th Division is still stationed inside Tel Keppe, a town only 6 kilometers north of Mosul.

Despite not gaining any ground in the Nineveh governorate today, the Iraqi Army's 9th, 15th and 16th Divisions are expected to support the Iraqi Army's special forces 'Golden Division' in the final offensive to liberate Mosul city.

While liberating several villages on the outskirts of Mosul from ISIS, the Peshmerga has announced it will not participate in the actual battle for Mosul city, an Arab city which is home to some 1,500,000 people.

Meanwhile,

three diversionary ISIS offensives on the cities of Rutbah, Sinjar and Kirkuk have been repelled while the Islamic State is stiffening its frontline around Mosul in anticipation of the publicly announced offensive.

At Ar-Rutbah in western Anbar near the Syrian border, a four-day long battle saw 40 ISIS turbans and 14 ISIS vehicle destroyed. Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie sadly admitted that he was a better peeping Tom than he was a comedian...
Amaq Agency said over 70 Iraqi soldiers were killed in the battle for Ar-Rutbah which eventually saw ISIS forces retreat after a massive batch of reinforcements arrived at the town.

Sunnis in Mosul face torture by Popular Mobilization militias
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A video that went viral this week exposed violations committed by the Popular Mobilization militias in Iraq against detainees in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
The footage showed bandidos holy warriors "torturing" displaced Iraqis under their detention during the ongoing battle to liberate the city of Mosul, a member of the Iraqi Parliament told Al Arabiya’s sister Al Hadath channel.

Several Iraqi parties, international human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
organizations and the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
have already accused the pro-government Shiite militia of committing several sectarian crimes against Sunni civilians in the liberated cities since 2014 and until 2016.

Sunni Iraqi politicians expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
over the increasing record of violations, saying the crimes committed in Mosul were previously reported in other Iraqi cities.

In Fallujah,
... the City of Mosques, which might have somthing to do with why it's not called Center of Prosperity or a really nice place to raise your kids...
several human rights organizations accused the bandidos holy warriors of torturing and kidnapping civilians, in addition to detaining more than 2500 in unidentified detention camps.

In Saqlawiya, in the Anbar province, the Sunni Iraqi forces coalition said in a statement in September that the Popular Mobilization militia was involved in a massacre that led to the death of dozens of people and the abduction of more than 600 others.

The UN has also accused the militia of torturing, forced confessions and executions in Anbar.

In Tikrit, the National Center for Justice (a non-governmental center) said it had evidence that 8,000 houses had been looted before being destroyed using bombs in 2015.

As for Baquba in the Diyala province, witnesses said that militias loyal to the Popular Mobilization were accused of burning houses and agricultural fields, and preventing Sunnis from returning to their houses.

Tribes in Diyala accused members of the Popular Mobilization forces of destroying 100 mosques in the province in 2014.

Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
said it has proof that the Popular Mobilization militias have looted Sunni civilians’ property; they burnt down their houses and shops, and wrecked at least two villages in Salahuddin province in 2014.

Soddys intercept Houthi missile fired on Makkah
[Al Arabiya] The Arab Coalition fighting in Yemen said on Thursday that it has intercepted a ballistic missile that hit 65km away from Saudi Arabia's holy city of Makkah, saying it was fired by militias in Yemen.

The missile was fired from Saada province towards Makkah, the coalition said. No damage has been reported.

of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) in operations conducted in Istanbul, the southeastern provinces of Gaziantep and Sanliurfa, the northwestern province of Kirklareli, and the eastern province of Erzurum.

Intelligence and counter-terrorism teams staged the operations after receiving new information on a group that recruits turbans and provides logistical support for the jihadists in Syria and Iraq.

Some 21 senior members of the group were determined with technical and physical tracking to have sent turbans who arrived in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

across the border to fight alongside ISIS. The group was also found to have hidden the turbans in several houses and gathered military equipment for logistical support.

The police started the operations against the suspects on Oct. 26, raiding a total of 31 addresses in five provinces. Beylikduzu, Basaksehir, Kagithane, Fatih, Gaziosmanpasa, Pendik and Gungören were among the districts raided in Istanbul.

A total of 81 people were detained in the operations, of whom 21 were in senior positions and of whom 20 were under the age of 18. Some 60 of those detained were foreigners.

Passports belonging to several countries, identification cards, two pistols, 200 bullets, military camouflage, ISIS-related documents and digital material were confiscated in searches at the targeted houses.

It was also determined that a number of people acting on behalf of ISIS brought the maimed jihadists from Syria and Iraq to Turkey and provided them with treatment.

Meanwhile,

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
IDF beefs up northern border defenses
[Ynet] In preparation for a possible Third Leb War, in which large numbers of Hezbollah fighters will attempt to infiltrate Israeli territory, the IDF is beefing up border defense by installing new fences, more obstacles and reinforcing existing infrastructure

Wednesday's cross-border shooting incident, which is still being investigated by the Northern Command as an attack by another terrorist group, has exposed one of Israel's weak points in a sensitive sector, the border line separating roads, orchards and Israeli settlements, mainly in the Galilee panhandle.

The IDF believes that Hezbollah will seek to exploit this weak point and attempt to infiltrate its Radwan special forces troops into Israeli territory in the next Leb war. The Radwan companies are comprised of dozens of heavily armed, select men who will attempt to quickly enter Israeli territory, capture an outpost or settlement near the border, raise the Hezbollah flag and present it as a symbol of victory.

As part of preparations against this scenario, the IDF is completing a 30-kilometer long border defense project that is part of a larger three-year project that has gained momentum in recent months.

The project consists of a series of engineered barriers that do not exist in any other part of the country. It consists of reinforced concrete panels dozens of meters high, concrete blocks, fortified towers and upgrades to existing fences that were put in place in the 80s.

The project is eventually expected to encompass the entire 120km Lebanese border, stretching from Rosh Hanikra to Mount Dov and Mount Hermon. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the project is of relatively low priority in terms of resource allocation by the IDF General Staff and the government, so it will only be completed within a few years. The majority of resources and attention are currently focused on the Gazoo border to guard against Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, tunneling attempts.

In the meantime, the Northern Command has found alternative solutions, such as training programs for engineering battalions, which are being conducted in the north. As a result, the Galilee division has prioritized 30 kilometers of territory as "more threatened," and has erected barriers and other obstacles.

During a Ynet tour of the border, officials demonstrated the troubling ease with which forces in Leb can open fire at any moment towards Israel, especially near the international barrier, as was the case with the shooting Wednesday.

Col. Zaky Yeffet of the Northern Command explained, "We can't dig everywhere, so we found other solutions such as reinforcing the border fence and we placed large boulders near Hanita to act as an obstacle against possible infiltration. The concrete panels we also placed in the areas guard against small arms fire and anti-tank missiles. Additionally, we cleared brush wherever we could along the border to allow us to see approaching threats easier."

Another obstacle that has been taken into account are mine fields. There are currently more than a million and a half landmines spread out over 4,000 different fields. The majority of the mines are anti-personnel, but there are a few anti-tank mines also mixed in. The IDF periodically replenishes these mine fields, but the goal is to thin them out as much as possible due to the risks associated with them.

group jihadists have been killed in the offensive to retake Iraq's djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, as camps around the city filled with fleeing civilians.

Iraqis who fled their homes expressed joy at escaping the IS group's brutal rule as they were given shelter and assistance, in some cases reuniting with relatives they had not seen in more than two years.

The offensive, launched on October 17, is seeing tens of thousands of Iraqi fighters advancing on Mosul from the south, east and north in a bid to retake the last major Iraqi city under IS group control.

Backed with air and ground support from a US-led coalition, federal forces allied with Kurdish peshmerga fighters have taken a string of towns and villages in a cautious but steady advance.

General Joseph Votel, who heads the US military's Central Command, told AFP on Thursday that the offensive was inflicting a heavy toll on the jihadists.

"Just in the operations over the last week and a half associated with Mosul, we estimate they've probably killed about 800-900 Islamic State fighters," Votel said in an interview.

There are between 3,500 and 5,000 IS jihadists in Mosul and up to another 2,000 in the broader area, according to US estimates.

The offensive has so far been concentrated in towns and villages around Mosul, with Iraqi forces later expected to breach city limits and engage the jihadists in street-to-street fighting.

Turkish and Saudi weapons found in Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh -The leader of al-Hashed al-Shaabi militia, Uday al-Khaddran, announced, that the security forces found Turkish and Saudi weapons in the axes of Mosul, and pointed out that vehicles and weapons entered the ISIS-held areas in Mosul on daily basis across the Turkish border by Gulf senior traders.

Khaddran said in a press statement, “Turkey is supplying the ISIS with weapons and military equipment, in addition to Turkish military advisers and experts to train the group’s terrorists, and artillery to support the terrorists’ movement.”

“Traders from Kuwait and UAE are facilitating the entry of thousands of Toyota vehicles to be used by the ISIS militants in their operations,” Khaddran added.

Khaddran also revealed that Turkish and Saudi intelligence transferred ISIS senior leaders and warlords from Mosul to Syria and Libya, in preparation for a new phase that will start from Egypt and Algeria.

Iraqi security forces also found Saudi weapons and vehicles during the battles to liberate Anbar and Salahuddin in the past two years.

Iraqi kops liberate 2 villages north of Shura

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Federal Police Command announced on Thursday, that its forces liberated two villages north of Shura area, and south of Mosul, from the ISIS control.

Federal Police Chief, Raed Shaker Jawdat, said in a press statement, “This morning, Federal Police troops managed to liberate the villages of Wadi Qassab and Hamza, north of Shura area from the ISIS grip.”

“The Federal Police forces continue advancing toward al-Shura area in order to fully liberate it,” Jawdat added.

Earlier this month, General Commander of Iraqi Armed forces and Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, announced launching the battle to liberate Mosul from the ISIS grip, and pointed out that only Iraqi forces will participate in the battle.

Results of Mosul offensive after 11 days of battle

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The Iraqi army, backed by Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the international coalition air force continued its victories in the battle to liberate the city of Mosul from the Islamic State’s (ISIS) occupation. The offensive that was launched on the 17th of October has so far inflicted heavy losses on ISIS, Youm7 reported on Thursday.

An infographic published earlier by Iraqi News revealed that around 5,000 fighters belonging to ISIS occupy the city of Mosul, and 65,000 Iraqi soldiers divided into 6 divisions are expected to participate in the liberation battle, in addition to around 10,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and 24,000 members of Nineveh Police and al-Hashd al-Shaabi militia.

Few hours after the start of Mosul offensive, ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi fled from Mosul to the Syrian territories, along with hundreds of the group’s members and their families, after surviving a coup attempt by the so-called Islamic Police in Mosul and summoning “al-Assra Army” to suppress the coup.

More than 800 members of the ISIS were killed during the direct confrontations against the Iraqi army, in addition to 58 militants who were executed for collaborating with security forces.

Meanwhile, Iraqi joint security forces managed in the last 11 days to liberate nearly 80 villages in the city of Mosul, as well as destroying 127 booby-trapped vehicles and dismantling 397 improvised explosive devices.

The security forces also destructed more than 40 ISIS defense positions, 3 tunnels and a headquarters, in addition to confiscating 36 mortar cannons and 16 armed vehicles.

Errant Mayo medics get a ‘dose of discipline’
[DAWN] The Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has suspended postgraduate training of two young doctors of the Mayo Hospital in the wake of the recent torture incident.

It has also issued a letter of displeasure to King Edward Medical University’s professor of surgery Dr Asghar Naqi for not having ’control’ over his student Dr Shaharyar Khan Niazi despite his frequent involvement in "violence" at the institute.

The department also suspended from service a deputy medical superintendent of the hospital for being negligent. The action was taken by the health department on the recommendations of a high-level inquiry committee which was constituted on the direction of the chief minister.

Former Allama Iqbal Medical College principal Prof Dr Eice Muhammad and University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Aslam, a retired major general, were among the members of the committee that probed the incident on the complaint that a group of medics thrashed indoor patient Waqas Amin and his brother Waqar Amin over a minor issue some 10 days back.

The committee collected evidence, examined video clips and took statements of the relevant people and finally submitted its recommendations to the health authorities. Taking action on the recommendation of the committee, the health department awarded major penalty to Dr Shaharyar Khan Niazi mainly holding him responsible for the incident. It terminated his postgraduate training for a period of one year in all public hospitals of Punjab.

"He will not be eligible for consideration for training for good at the Mayo Hospital and before Oct 25, 2017 in any other public hospital of the province. He is also found guilty of destroying sanctity of a public office and tearing the application of Mr Waqas Amin, depriving him of his right of filing his grievances before the on-duty deputy medical superintendent," the committee declared in its findings.

It further declared that the conduct of Dr Niazi was found not only unbecoming of a doctor but also contradictory to basic human values and noble traditions of the medical profession.

"After one year of suspension period, he may be allowed to rejoin his training in any hospital other than Mayo Hospital," the committee declared.

As for his colleague Dr Mazhar Rafique, the committee held that he was found guilty of influencing the probe to mislead the Sherlocks. It stated that Dr Mazhar recorded conciliatory video statement of the patient and his relatives shortly after the incident when he (the patient) was at the mercy of the doctors in a bid to protect his colleague Dr Niazi.

The health department suspended his postgraduate training forthwith allowing him to apply to the joint admission committee for consideration for training in any public hospital of the province except the Mayo Hospital.

Turkey orders dozens of pilots detained in coup investigation: Anadolu
[ALMASDARNEWS] Turkish prosecutors have ordered the detention of 73 air force pilots, the latest in a stream of police operations related to the investigation of July's attempted coup, the state-run Anadolu news agency said Thursday.

The operation targeting supporters of U.S.-based holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, whom Ankara blames for the putsch, focused on an air base in the central Turkish province of Konya and spread across 17 provinces, it said.

Other media reports said more than 200 soldiers and civilians were to be detained in coup-related operations Thursday.

Since the July 15 coup attempt, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
35,000 people and sacked or suspended more than 100,000 others in the civil service, judiciary, police, military and elsewhere. Gulen denies involvement in the failed coup.

The latest suspects were accused of "armed rebellion against the Turkish Republic" and membership of what Ankara calls the Gulenist Terror Organisation, the privately-owned Dogan news agency said. Anadolu said 71 of those sought were lieutenants.

The latest detentions will bring to more than 300 the number of pilots dismissed or arrested as part of the coup investigation. The shake-up comes as Turkey's military pursues an offensive against ISIS in Syria and targets Kurdish gunnies there, as well as in Iraq and southeast Turkey.

Police last week detained 47 soldiers in a similar operation focused on the Konya base, of which 29 were subsequently remanded in jug, Dogan said.

On Wednesday, Ankara said it had replaced three quarters of provincial police heads as part of the crackdown.

Turkish officials have said the interior ministry has ramped up efforts to purge the police and state institutions after the appointment at the end of August of a new minister, Suleyman Soylu, seen as close to President Tayyip Erdogan.
