Sarah Hoyt: How to Deal with Leftist Turkeys on Gobbler Day
...Recently on Facebook, a friend asked us to list what we were thankful for, and he got the standard tight-lipped leftist reply: "Well, I guess I’m grateful my native ancestors weren’t killed or raped like so many others were."

This is typical leftist cant, talking about the plight of the "Native Americans." And it’s booshwa. There are so many errors packed in that sentence that it’s almost unbelievable. It starts with his "native ancestors," and no, we’re not going into the fact that to our knowledge no human beings evolved in America. We’re instead going with the fact that the native tribes were genetically swamped. So swamped that I think the amount of Amerindian DNA to be considered "Native American" is about 16 percent. Might be less.

...This is because ‐ second error ‐ Amerindian tribes weren’t cartoon Disney characters. They didn’t live in "harmony with nature" singing to the pretty flowers and animals. Sure, some Indian writings have catered to this, but that’s just proof they were thoroughly assimilated. The idea of the Indians as noble savages is a thing of French romanticism, not of any native culture.

Native cultures were much like tribal cultures anywhere, red in tomahawk and war band.

Yeah, lots of them were raped and killed ‐ by other tribes ‐ in more or less endless warfare long before the Europeans arrived.

That they were pretty thoroughly genetically swamped and culturally destroyed was not a particularly rare thing in history. It was a story repeated many times.

...Perhaps that’s why the left is, once again, going to war against Thanksgiving. Yes, yes, the poor lost Natives who sang to plants and frolicked with animals will be brought back from their graves to justify leftists’ hatred of every society that won’t hand them total power.

#1  My native American mother used to say that if her ancestors way back when had simply EATEN every single new arrival by ship from Europe, eventually they would have quit coming and colonization would never have happened. She got quite a laugh from the band members at that resort in Kauai when she told them that.
The conversation stopper to that tight-lipped leftist: that was the unfortunate outcome of the aboriginal open borders / no borders policy.

Ukrainian publication pulls a boner
One of my trusted news sources for the Ukrainian side of the civil war posted news from a fake website which claimed that the People's Republic of Lugansk was planning to go to war with its sister republic, the Donetsk People's Republic for "poisoning the Lugansk water supply" with fluoride.

The tip was that the website included a quote from the US film "Doctor Strangelove:"

To wit:

"Bandits from the Donetsk People's Republic treacherously attacked our homeland without declaration of war, to wreak havoc, discord and undermine the centuries-old foundations of Lugansk, our cultural identity and precious body fluids."

The political leadership of Donetsk was not amused, and because of its current political turmoil, the Lugansk political leadership had nothing to say.

Terror-wary New York pumps up security for Thanksgiving Day Parade
[IsraelTimes] Weeks after deadly truck-ramming attack, Macy's celebration to be guarded with truck barriers, snipers on rooftops and cops carrying assault rifles and radiation detectors

Sand-filled sanitation trucks and police sharpshooters will mix with glittering floats and giant balloons at a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Thursday that comes in a year of terrible mass shootings and not even a month after a deadly truck attack in lower Manhattan.

New York City’s mayor and police brass have repeatedly stressed that layers of security, along with hundreds of officers, will be in place for one of the nation’s biggest outdoor holiday gatherings, and that visitors should not be deterred.

"We had a couple of tough months as a nation," Police Commissioner James O’Neill said. "We won’t ever accept such acts of hate and cowardice as inevitable in our society."

A posting last year in an English-language magazine of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, which took credit for the October 31 truck attack that killed eight people, mentioned the Thanksgiving parade as "an excellent target." Authorities say there is no confirmation of a credible threat.

"I want to assure the people that we swore to protect that anytime something happens anywhere in the world, the NYPD works with our law enforcement partners and studies it and we learn from it and it informs our decision making going forward," O’Neill said.

This year’s security plan includes dozens of city sanitation trucks, which weigh about 16 tons empty and up to twice that with sand, that will be lined up as imposing barriers to traffic at every cross street along the 2 ½-mile parade route stretching from Central Park to Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street.

In addition, officers with assault weapons and portable radiation detectors will walk among the crowds, and sharpshooters on rooftops will scan building windows and balconies for anything unusual.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that security at the parade increases every year "because we understand we are dealing with a very challenging world." He told crowds gathered to watch the parade’s giant balloons being inflated that "the amount of resources and personnel we put in has increased each year to make us safer."

New York officials also are asking the tens of thousands of spectators to be alert for anything suspicious.

"There will be a cop on every block," said NYPD Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan. "Go to that cop and say something."

The 91st annual parade begins at 9 a.m. local time.

Beyond the pageantry, police say they have been working on security for the parade since the moment last year’s parade ended. It’s a plan that got renewed attention after a terror attack in lower Manhattan October 31, when Sayfullo Saipov in a rented truck barreled onto a crowded bike path near the World Trade Center, killing eight people.

The first major New York event since the bike path attack ‐ the New York marathon, which drew tens of thousands of spectators and 50,000 runners from around the world ‐ went off with no problems.

"We said right away New York’s response is to remain strong and resilient," de Blasio said. "We do not back down in the face of terror threats. The city is filled with resolve."

New Cold War? Iran Sends Warships to Gulf of Mexico
NewsWEAK hyperventilating, and of course, it's Trump's fault. Of course. Anybody got a dollar to throw away on a hack "Journolism" company. Note they haven't left the Persian Gulf yet and may never...but Trump!
Iranian warships are set to leave the waters of the Persian Gulf to sail across the world and tour another gulf‐the one that lies between the U.S. and Mexico.

At a time when Iran is looking to expand and modernize its military in the face of what is seen as a growing U.S. threat, its newly appointed navy commander, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, held his first press conference Wednesday, announcing that a fleet of Iranian ships would soon depart for the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico en route to visits to a number of South American countries, Iran’s semiofficial Tasnim News Agency reported. The move is reportedly part of a push to project Iran’s military on a more global scale and establish international ties as President Donald Trump and his allies, including Israel and Saudi Arabia, seek to isolate the revolutionary Shiite Muslim power.

"Sailing in open waters between Europe and Americas should be the navy's goal, which will be realized in the near future," Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, who served as navy chief for 10 years before being assigned by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to deputy coordinator of the army

Government
Klingon surrogates at Foggy Bottom continue to foster regime change in Hungary
[Breitbart] The U.S. State Department has courted controversy by announcing it will plough $700,000 into Hungarian media, angering the country’s anti-globalist, conservative government.

The funding was announced by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires David Kostelancik, who has previously appeared to openly criticise the Trump administration by alluding to "apparent inconsistencies in [U.S.] foreign policy" and remarking that "not every criticism of the government is ’fake news’."

Breitbart London spoke to a State Department official who confirmed it supports what it calls "democracy and human rights programming" in many countries, and that its intentions in Hungary ‐ a NATO ally ‐ are to "support media outlets operating outside the capital ... to produce fact-based reporting and increase their audience and economic sustainability".

The State Department also echoed Kostelancik’s claim that too many Hungarian news outlets are sympathetic to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s popular conservative government ‐ which has earned powerful enemies by opposing the European Union on mass migration, building a highly effective border wall, and exposing the network of European politicians deemed "reliable allies" by billionaire open borders campaigner George Soros.

Planned Parenthood's Tips on How to ‘Feel Safe' from Racist, Sexist, Homophobic Relatives at Thanksgiving
[Breitbart] Planned Parenthood is coming to the aid of those who may need a "safe space" at the Thanksgiving dinner table, surrounded by family members who may not be politically correct enough for them.

"Visiting family for Thanksgiving can be challenging," Planned Parenthood observes in its Tumblr post titled "Thanksgiving: How to Deal with Difficult People."

"Your dinner companions may say hurtful, offensive things about race, gender identity, sexual harassment and assault, birth control coverage, abortion, or any number of topics ‐ which can feel stressful, isolating, or enraging," the abortion provider adds, extending four tips on how to "feel safe" if you are planning to be around other people for the holiday.

First, Planned Parenthood says you can engage in "self care" by making decisions that allow you to "feel safe," including the options of "not going home at all, going home with a friend or partner by your side, or only visiting for dinner."

Second, the group recommends developing allies among "family members who love and respect you."

"The more people in your family who can call people out ... on their problematic behavior, the less acceptable it will be," Planned Parenthood asserts.

When the subject of birth control comes up at the Thanksgiving table, Planned Parenthood offers these suggestions ‐ but only if you "feel safe":

Mercer: How do you know America is a matriarchy?
[Barlely A Blog] UPDATED (11/20): State Of Sexual Hysteria Unique To Super Neurotic, Formerly Puritanical, Anglo-American Sphere Femenism, Gender, Left-Liberalsim, Media, Morality, Pop-Culture, Sex, The Zeitgeist.

How do you know America is a matriarchy? Today, November 19, is International Men’s Day, 2017, and what is being discussed non-stop on the Mad Hatter Media? Women’s complaints against men‐current complaints, past complaints, proven and unproven, possible future complaints, ethics committees to facilitate more complaints.

In years past, a token attempt at discussing "men’s health issues" would have been attempted on International Men’s Day. Now, with the help of men themselves, the day is devoted to vilifying The Male.
… the day has become something of a toxic punchline in a year filled with sexual assault allegations against major male figures — including President Donald Trump. It’s not been a banner year for men, as many in positions of power have been exposed as using that influence in cases of sexual harassment and assault. …

The country is becoming a farce, thanks to the dominance of unhinged females. Here’s a clue as to the uniquely American nature of the derangement: Other than in the UK, albeit to a lesser degree, where a similar kind of woman prevails, where in the world are nations wrestling with a manufactured crisis, elevated to a national level exclusively by women?

Egypt's prosecutor-general orders detention of 29 suspects over espionage with Turkey
[AlAhram] Egypt's Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek ordered on Wednesday 29 suspects detained for 15 days pending investigation into charges of engaging in espionage with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
MENA reported.

The 29 suspects, along with others who are runaways abroad, are accused of joining a terrorist organization, circumventing the country’s phone networks for international communication, money laundering, and illegal currency trading, according to a statement by the prosecutor-general.

The statement did not state when the defendants were jugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
According to National Security investigations, the defendants formed a network with runaway members of the Moslem Brüderbund abroad to monitor and record phone calls of Egyptian citizens to gauge their views on the situation in the country.

Egyptian intelligence agencies revealed a plot between Ottoman Turkish intelligence and members of the international Moslem Brüderbund to take over power in Egypt by destabilising state institutions.

The State Security prosecution said it would continue to release statements on the case while maintaining confidentiality with regards to information that could harm the country's national security.

Relations between Turkey and Egypt have been strained since the 2013 ouster of Egypt’s Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, a close ally of Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
's AKP government.
Erdogan has repeatedly slammed the Egyptian government over Morsi's removal.

Cairo has repeatedly accused Ankara of interference in its domestic affairs and supporting Islamist bandidos holy warriors who carry out attacks in Egypt.

Turkey has been providing a safe haven for leading members of the Brotherhood, which has been banned and designated as terrorist in Egypt.

Ankara also allows broadcasts from within Turkey of TV stations run by sympathisers of the Brotherhood who criticise the government of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

Political relations between the two countries are currently suspended, though economic ties are still active.

Terror Networks
Hezbollah says it sent missiles to Gaza; not to Yemen, Bahrain
[IsraelTimes] Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah denies on Monday that his group had ever sent weapons to a host of conflict-ridden countries, including Yemen, Bahrain, and Kuwait. But he concedes the terror group sent projectiles to Gazoo.

"I want to formally deny it: we did not send weapons to Yemen, Bahrain, Kuwait, or Iraq," Nasrallah says in a televised address.

"We only sent Kornet missiles to Gazoo, while in Syria we’re fighting with our arms," he adds, according to the Naharnet website.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Car is found 20 years after man forgot where he parked it
[SFGATE] At some point or another, almost everyone has has the aggravating experience of parking their car and then forgetting exactly where they parked it.

But an unidentified 76-year-old man in Germany may have set a new record for foggy recall.

In 1997, he parked his Volkswagen Passat in the garage of an industrial building in Frankfurt and then forgot where he had left it, according to the Augsburger Allgemeine. After searching for it for days, he eventually called police and reported it stolen.

Fast-forward 20 years. The aforementioned industrial building is scheduled for the wrecking ball. But before it's demolished, the man's Passat is found right where he left it. No one had stolen it. No one had even driven it for two decades.

Police tracked down the owner and reunited him with the long-lost car.

It would have been great if it started right up like the ancient VW Bug in Woody Allen's "Sleeper," but no such luck. Years of rusting metal and disintegrating hoses had rendered the Passat undriveable and unsalvageable.

So after 20 years of not moving, it made one final trip ‐ to the junkyard.

#3  Left my F150 parked all winter outdoors without once starting it. Just kept the battery trickle-charged. Started right up -- with a loud screech. Then an explosion under the hood with brown smoke. Turned out the bearing on the alternator had gotten very sticky due to corrosion, while the serpentine belt was yanked along by other pulleys until it blew up. Cured this ailment with WD-40, a wrench, and of course a new serpentine belt. Got off easy on that one.

[AlAhram] Ottoman Turkish authorities have issued detention warrants for 216 people, including former finance ministry personnel, suspected of having links to last year's failed coup attempt, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Wednesday.

It said 17 former finance ministry personnel were tossed into the calaboose so far and another 65 were sought over alleged links to Gulen's network, Anadolu said.

‘American mercenaries are torturing' Saudi elite rounded up by new crown prince - and billionaire Prince Alwaleed was hung upside down 'just to send a message'
The Daily Mail reporters are basing this article on a single, anonymous source.
'Blackwater' has been named by DailyMail.com's source as the firm involved, and the claim of its presence in Saudi Arabia has also been made on Arabic social media, and by Lebanon's president.

The firm's successor, Academi, strongly denies even being in Saudi Arabia and says it does not engage in torture, which it is illegal for any U.S. citizen to commit anywhere in the world.

The source said that in the febrile atmosphere in the kingdom, Prince Mohammed has bypassed the normal security forces in keeping the princes and other billionaires at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Riyadh.

'All the guards in charge are private security because MBS (Mohammed Bin Salman) doesn't want Saudi officers there who have been saluting those detainees all their lives,' said the source, who asked to remain anonymous.

US charges Iranian over ‘Game of Thrones’ HBO hack
[IsraelTimes] Behzad Mesri, who remains on the lam, accused of stealing scripts of popular show, trying to extort $6 million in Bitcoin from network

The United States on Tuesday charged an Iranian computer whiz with hacking into HBO, stealing scripts and plot summaries for "Game of Thrones," and trying to extort $6 million in Bitcoin out of the network.

US prosecutors in New York unveiled a seven-count indictment against Behzad Mesri, whom they identified as an Iran-based hacker who also goes by the name Skote Vahshat. Mesri is still on the lam, a front man for the US Attorney’s office in Manhattan told AFP.

Mesri is accused of orchestrating a hack of HBO from May to August, then threatening to release stolen data unless the premium cable network paid a $6 million ransom in the digital currency Bitcoin.

US prosecutors say he stole scripts and plot summaries for then unaired episodes of the global smash hit "Game of Thrones" series, and unaired episodes for multiple other shows, including the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" comedy series.

He is accused of compromising multiple user accounts, and in July of sending an anonymous email to HBO personnel saying: "Hi to All losers! Yes it’s true! HBO is hacked!... Beware of heart Attack!!!"

Mesri leaked some of the stolen data over the Internet onto websites he controlled, US federal prosecutors allege.

The Iranian suspect faces seven counts in the United States, including wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and four counts of computer fraud.

US prosecutors accuse Mesri of previously conducting computer attacks on behalf of the Iranian military that targeted nuclear software systems and Israeli infrastructure.

They also said he was a member of the Iranian-based Turk Black Hat Security hacking group, targeting hundreds of websites in the United States and around the world.

Soldiers fire on two Gazans crossing into Israel, hitting one
[IsraelTimes] IDF soldiers shot up two Paleostinians trying to cross into Israel from Gazoo, hitting one of them, on Wednesday, the army said.

A military spokesperson said the soldiers later found that one of the suspects was in possession of a knife.

The attempted infiltration occurred along the security fence in the northern Gazoo Strip.

The maimed Paleostinian was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The other was taken into custody for questioning, the army said.

Paleostinians from the Gazoo Strip regularly try to cross into Israel. The military is concerned that they may be planning to carry out attacks, though most seem to be entering Israel in order to find work, as there is widespread unemployment in the coastal enclave. In most cases, if the army does not deem them to be a security threat, the Paleostinians are returned to the Gazoo Strip.

a 19-year-old member of the MS-13 gang in connection with the stabbing death of an unidentified man whose decapitated body was found with the heart removed.

Police suspect up to 10 members of the gang lured the victim out to a park in Wheaton, Md., where they stabbed him more than 100 times before burying him in a grave in the woods, the Washington Post reported. Allegedly among them, Miguel "Timido" Angel Lopez-Abrego, who authorities recently arrested in North Carolina on Nov. 11.

He’s since been extradited to Maryland and has a bond review slated for Wednesday afternoon.

The victim was likely killed between December 2016 and March 2017, according to police. They discovered his body in the shallow grave on Sept. 5, WJLA reported.

Hafiz Saeed set to be freed after LHC turns down extension in detention order
[DAWN] A review board comprising judges of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday refused to extend the detention orders of Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
’s (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed.

His current house arrest is going to expire on Nov 24 (Friday).

The review board under the chair of Justice Abdul Sami Khan passed these orders after a senior finance ministry official failed to convince the board that the release of Saeed would bring diplomatic and financial problems to the country.

During the last hearing, the government while seeking extension in the detention orders had argued that Saeed could not be released because the move would result in financial sanctions and a halt in foreign funding to the country. In response, the board had directed the government to send an official from the finance ministry to explain how release of a single individual would affect the entire country.

Hariri Tells Joyous Supporters Celebrating His Return 'I Will Stay'
[AnNahar] Prime Minister Saad Hariri
Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.
, who returned back to Beirut Tuesday after a mysterious saga that saw his shock resignation in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, told thousands of supporters rallying near his Center House in Downtown Beirut on Wednesday that he was staying.

"I'm staying with you... we're continuing together, to be the first line of defense for Leb and its stability," he told a large crowd gathered in front of his home.

Thousands of Hariri supporters flocked to the Center House on Wednesday celebrating his return to Leb and expressing support for the Premier following a surprise resignation on November 4 from Riyadh that left the country in disarray.

Advocates of Hariri gave him a welcome and flocked from different Lebanese regions cheering and flashing banners welcoming his return and chanting to the beat of music resonating in the streets.

Hariri said Wednesday he had agreed to suspend his surprise decision to resign, at the request of President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
, pending talks on the political situation.

The new decision came hours after the premier landed back in Leb for the first time since announcing his resignation in a statement from Saudi Arabia.

"I discussed my resignation with the president of the republic who asked me to wait before submitting it... and allow for more consultations," Hariri told news hounds after meeting Aoun.

"I agreed to this request."

Leb has been gripped by the political crisis precipitated by Hariri's resignation, including the question of whether the premier was being detained in Saudi Arabia, where he remained for two weeks after stepping down.

Aoun had refused to accept Hariri's resignation while the premier was still abroad, and even accused Riyadh of having "detained" the prime minister.

Hariri holds dual Saudi-Lebanese citizenship, and denied he was being held against his will by Riyadh, a close political ally, but accepted a French invitation to visit Gay Paree, leaving the kingdom on November 18.

Israel thwarts smuggling of tons of explosives into Gaza
[Ynet] After examining tons of cargo said to be car oils for the strip, new lab discovers solids, gases, liquids and powder meant for mass production of explosives; Land Crossing Authority head says ’lab greatly widens the tool box in daily struggle against smuggling into the Gazoo Strip.'

An Israeli laboratory at the Kerem Shalom Gazoo crossing recently thwarted an attempted smuggling of several tons of explosive substances that were headed for terror groups in the strip.

The lab, which was recently established at the crossing at the behest of the Land Crossings Authority in the Ministry of Defense, was called into action after a truck arrived at the area that was carrying what was said to be a large load of car oils.

Guards conducting the security checks grew suspicious of the truck’s content, and transferred specific oil types to the lab for further investigation, where it transpired that the oils were not intended for car engines, but were rather dangerous substances intended for the production of large quantities of bombs.

Following the discovery, the Land Crossings Authority unveiled the dangerous chemicals uncovered by the lab for the first time since it was recently established.

Lab experts who initiated the joint project between the Land Crossings Authority, the Shin Bet and the Police border crossings department use a wide range of advanced equipment to identify the substances, which included gas, liquids, powder and solids, before they enter Gazoo.

The laboratory’s special methods to swiftly identify the dangerous materials are intended not only to limit terror activities in the southern enclave, but also to reduce delays that commonly accompany the entrance of cargo into the strip due to meticulous security checks.

Head of the Land Border Crossings Authority Brig. Gen. (res.) Kamil Abu Rokon, praised the work of the laboratory, noting the significant expansion of methods at its disposal to thwart similar smuggling attempts.

"The establishment of the chemicals lab greatly widens the ’tool box’ for security officials in their daily and uncompromising struggle against smuggling into the Gazoo Strip," Rokon said.

"The lab’s abilities include a range of means and the most important of all is the human element‐those who do the security checks at the crossings," he added. "With our smart work, we know today how to locate forbidden materials that could help strengthen terror elements in the Gazoo Strip."

Explosion’ heard near Argentine sub’s last known position

An unusual noise heard in the ocean near the last known position of the San Juan submarine was “consistent with an explosion,” Argentina’s navy announces.

“An anomalous, singular, short, violent and non-nuclear event consistent with an explosion,” occurred shortly after the last communication of the San Juan and its 44 crew, navy spokesman Captain Enrique Baldi tells a news conference in Buenos Aires.

Coalition jets destroy IS targets, kill militants in desert: Military
They can run, but they’ll just die tired. Carry on, guys.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The U.S.-led Coalition jets have destroyed more than twenty targets of Islamic State, killing militants in Al-Jazeera desert, the military media reported.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said, “the Coalition jets launched airstrike against IS militants in al-Jazeera desert.”

“The airstrike left militants killed and twenty-two targets, including headquarters, havens as well as stores of booby-trapped vehicles, destroyed,” it added.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said during his weekly press briefing on Tuesday that his country has defeated Islamic State over the military level, but will declare final victory after desert areas are purged of militants.

Brig. Gen. Yehia Rasool, spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command, announced on Friday, achieving “great victory” in Rawa, stressing that advance will resume in the depth of desert toward the Syrian borders.

Another mass grave found at a road southeast of Kirkuk
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Another mass grave containing the relics of people executed by the Islamic State militants was found Wednesday in Kirkuk, a local source was quoted saying.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that a security force found a mass grave containing the relics of tens of civilians at Laylan’s “international road” southeast of the city of Kirkuk.

“A government committee of Kirkuk’s administration and human rights representatives will visit the grave,” the source said, adding that the grave is very big and that related details will be released after it is officially opened up.

On Tuesday, news reports quoted security officials saying that a mass grave was found inside oil wells near Kirkuk.

As Iraqi troops recaptured areas held by Islamic State militants since October 2016, they have regularly run into mass graves of civilians and security agents executed by militants for fleeing the group’s havens or collaborating with security forces.

Commander: some senior IS leaders remain at Diyala-Salahuddin borders
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) An Iraqi paramilitary commander warned Wednesday that several senior leaders of the Islamic State remain in hiding at the Diyala-Salahuddin borders.

Jabbar al-Maamouri, a senior commander at the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), told Alsumaria News that the elite of five IS so-called “wilayas” (provinces) remain in hiding at Mutaibija, an Islamic State hotbed falling between Diyala and Salahuddin provinces which has seen recurrent attacks by the militants and counter-strikes from Iraqi forces and allied troops.

Those “are hiding in holes and tunnels in Mutaibija…which is known for its highly complicated geography,” Maamouri said. “Daesh (Islamic State) opted for hiding in Mutaibija due to its strategic location which falls among three provinces, besides the fact that it represents a natural extension of the Hamreen mountains”.

Maamouri warned that those vestige militants could “form a nucleus for a new terrorist group”.

Two IS members killed as troops repulse attack, north of Tikrit

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Two Islamic State members were killed as they attempted infiltration toward security checkpoints, north of Tikrit, according to the pro-government paramilitary troops.

“The 99th brigade killed two IS members, who attempted sneaking toward troops in Jazeerat al-Siniyah region,” the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said.

“There is shootout between the two sides,” it added.

Living together peacefully so that all prosper just isn’t in the cards.
[DAWN] At least 30 people were killed when farmers attacked herdsmen in northeast Nigeria

's Adamawa state, police told AFP on Wednesday.

State police front man Othman Abubakar said farmers from the Christian Bachama ethnic group stormed four settlements of Moslem Fulani herders in Numan district on Monday, hacking residents and burning homes.

"We have so far recovered 30 bodies from the affected villages but the toll is not conclusive as rescue teams are still combing the bushes in the area for more bodies," he said.

A man-hunt had been launched for the assailants, he added. "The deputy governor visited the villages and an investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice," he said.

Iraq
Mosul clean up continues

Iraqi troops arrest last Islamic State Wali in Mosul city

’Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security forces on Wednesday arrested the last Islamic State Wali (governor) in Mosul city along with his two brothers.

“Saleb al-Eslahi and his two brothers, Ahmed and Suleiman, were nabbed at a village in Mosul with fake IDs in their possession,” semi-official newspaper al-Sabah quoted police officer Eyad Ramzy from Nineveh as saying.

“The trio was referred to the bodies concerned for interrogation,” Ramzy added.

The troops also found huge amounts of explosive materials and weapons of IS militants west of Mosul, he pointed out.

“The explosive materials were estimated at 90 tons,” Ramzy said, adding that they were buried under the ground at Ayn al-Jahesh village in Mosul.

On Tuesday, a curfew was imposed in four districts in Mosul city in search of criminals.

“Federal police cordoned off the districts of al-Matahen, al-Yarmouk, al- Tenek and al-Yabsat and prevented residents from entering or leaving the districts,” a source, who preferred to remain unnamed, told Shafaq News.

Police forces launched a manhunt for criminals, who are wanted on terror charges, the source said, adding that the Iraqi Air Forces are taking part in the security campaign.

Iraqi forces arrest suicide bomber near Mosul market

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security forces on Wednesday arrested a suicide bomber who tried to blow himself up near a popular market in Mosul.

Mnangagwa set to replace Mugabe
[DAWN] Emmerson Mnangagwa, elected as the new leader of Zim-bob-we’s ruling political party and now poised to take over as the country’s president, has engineered a remarkable comeback using skills he no doubt learned from his long-time mentor, now ex-president Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
Mnangagwa served for decades as Mugabe’s enforcer ‐ a role that gave him a reputation for being astute, ruthless and effective at manipulating the levers of power. Among the population, he is more feared than popular, but he has strategically fostered a loyal support base within the military and security forces.

A leading government figure since Zim-bob-we’s independence in 1980, he became vice president in 2014 and is so widely known as the "Crocodile" that his supporters are called Team Lacoste for the brand’s crocodile logo.

Zimbabwe's New Leaders Are None Other Than Zimbob's Former ‘Enforcers' (Opens to Video)
[Huffpoo] Jubilant crowds filled the streets of Zimbabwe’s cities on Tuesday, after the country’s speaker of parliament announced that President Robert Mugabe had resigned after decades in power.

Just shy of a week ago, Zimbabwe’s military took power in the capital and detained Mugabe in his home. Since then, the military and the ruling ZANU-PF party steadily increased pressure on the longtime ruler to leave office until it seems he finally relented.

But while Zimbabweans express their joy and relief over what appears to be the end of Mugabe’s 37-year authoritarian rule, the nature of his downfall and the ruthless past of his successor are troubling signs for a country that has seen years of repression.

(IS) group on Tuesday while a senior military commander thanked the "thousands of deaders" killed in operations organised by Iran to defeat the krazed killer group in Syria and Iraq.

"Today with God’s guidance and the resistance of people in the region we can say that this evil has either been lifted from the head of the people or has been reduced," Rouhani said in an address broadcast live on state TV. "Of course the remnants will continue but the foundation and roots have been destroyed."

Maj Gen Qassem Soleimani, a senior commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, also said Islamic State had been defeated, in a message sent on Tuesday to Iran’s supreme leader which was published on the Guards’ news site, Sepah News.

Iranian media have often carried video and pictures of Soleimani, who commands the Quds Force, the branch of the Guards responsible for operations outside Iran, at frontline positions in battles against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
The U.S. Army Is Selling Some of Its Most Powerful Guns (and You Can Buy One)
[The National Interest] The .45 ACP M1911A1 pistol has served the U.S. armed forces for more than a century in every war zone and hotspot on the planet ‐ and thanks to this year’s federal defense budget, it will serve civilians for the foreseeable future.

The $700 billion 2018 National Defense Authorization Act that Congress sent to President Donald Trump’s desk on Nov. 16 included an amendment that required the Secretary of the Army to transfer a cache of small arms and ammo "no longer actively issued for military service" to the government-sponsored Civilian Marksmanship Program, including the M1911 and M1911A1 pistols, the M‐1 Garand, and .22 rimfire rifles.

The 1911 semiautomatic pistol, invented by legendary firearms inventor John Moses Browning, proved extremely reliable in the hands of American Expeditionary Forces during the opening years of World War I. According to the National Interest, Army Sergeant Alvin C. York neutralized six German soldiers who charged him with fixed bayonets using nothing but his 1911, earning the Congressional Medal of Honor for his valor and heroism.

Although the 1911A1 variant that emerged in the U.S. after WWI was phased out of regular military service in favor of the Beretta 92 pistol (aka the M9) starting in 1985, its power persists. The Marine Corps ordered 12,000 M45A1 Close Quarter Battle Pistols, a 1911-modeled firearm from Colt Defense in 2014; the pistols went to MARSOC Raiders, with a handful going to special operations-capable Marine Expeditionary Units.

The last transfer of 1911s to the CMP was in 2015, when President Barack Obama signed a defense bill that included a measure to transfer 10,000 pistols for sale to the program; lawmakers had stated that May that the DoD spends $2 a year to store each of its 100,000 surplus 1911s. With 10,000 already transferred and 8,300 additional pistols "sold or disposed of," per Guns.com, that means there are at least 80,000 1911s ready and waiting for a civilian to give them a good home.

Foreigners Held or Missing in Syria
[AnNahar] The capture by Iraqi and Syrian forces of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's last bastions failed to clarify the fate of several foreign hostages thought to have been kidnapped by jihadists.

The Syrian city of Raqa, which U.S.-backed forces retook in mid-October, was the group's inner sanctum and where many of the kidnapped foreigners were sequestered.

Following is what we know about John Cantlie, a British journalist who was kidnapped by IS five years ago on Wednesday, and about other foreigners still believed held or missing in Syria:

JOHN CANTLIE

British journalist John Cantlie was detained by the Islamic State group on November 22, 2012.

He was kidnapped along with U.S. news hound James Foley, who became the first of a string of foreign hostages to be slain in gruesome propaganda videos.

Cantlie however appeared in several subsequent videos released by IS in which he delivered jihadist propaganda to the camera in the style of a news report.

His last appearance was during the battle for djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
late last year. He looked very gaunt and tired.

His current whereabouts are unknown and Cantlie's family have chosen discretion as a way of increasing his chances of survival.

GRIGORY TSURKANU AND ROMAN ZABOLOTNY

The pair, believed to be Russians, were captured in September or early October in Deir Ezzor province in eastern Syria.

Moscow never confirmed the identity of the two men, who appeared in an IS propaganda video. A Cossack group identified them as two veterans from southern Russia in their late thirties.

Some Russian media reports said they were mercenaries for a shadowy outfit called Wagner which has been sending ex-servicemen to fight alongside Syrian regime forces.

A Russian newspaper said they were executed but their deaths were never confirmed.

SKY NEWS TEAM

Mauritanian national Ishak Moctar and Lebanese national Samir Kassab went missing on October 15, 2013, along with their Syrian driver, near the northern city of Aleppo.

They were believed held by IS but their fate was never confirmed and they are still considered missing. The pair were believed to still be alive in 2016 and held in Raqa.

JUMPEI YASUDA

Japanese journalist Jumpei Yasuda is thought to have been kidnapped by the al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front jihadist group, a former al-Qaeda affiliate, in northern Syria in 2015.

Tokyo describes him as missing. A picture of him holding a piece of paper that read "Help me, this is the last chance" was released in mid-2016 and deemed authentic.

AUSTIN TICE

The 36-year-old American journalist was kidnapped in Syria in August 2012 by unidentified gunnies after reporting south of Damascus.

His kidnapping was never claimed by any organization but his family says it has reason to believe the Texan news hound is still alive.

PAOLO DALL'OGLIO

The Jesuit priest known to most as Father Paolo was a well-known figure in Syria, where he lived for years in the 6th century Deir Mar Musa monastery that he renovated, north of Damascus.

He was exiled from Syria in 2012 for meeting with members of the opposition to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
's regime and kidnapped by the Islamic State group near Raqa when he returned the following year.

He was reported to have been executed and his body dumped in a crevice soon after but his death was never confirmed by any party.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor ‐ and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be ‐ That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks ‐ for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation ‐ for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war ‐ for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed ‐ for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted ‐ for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions ‐ to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually ‐ to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed ‐ to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord ‐ To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us ‐ and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New-York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789. ‐ Go: Washington

Lacking evidence, Germany releases Syrian terror suspects
22 November
[IsraelTimes] German authorities are releasing six Syrian men detained on suspicion of plotting a terror attack, saying there’s insufficient evidence to keep them in custody. The suspects — Syrian citizens aged between 20 and 28 who arrived in Germany as asylum-seekers in 2014 and 2015 — were detained Tuesday in raids on eight apartments across the country. They were accused of preparing an attack on unidentified “public target in Germany”. Neither weapons nor explosives were found.

News agency dpa reported that Frankfurt prosecutors said Wednesday that checks on the men’s cellphones hadn’t immediately yielded strong enough evidence to keep them in custody. Investigators also didn’t find evidence that the suspects were members of the Islamic State group, though they do believe there are ties with IS.

Spain defends holding hundreds of migrants in jail
22 November
[TheLocal.es] Spain on Tuesday defended holding in prison nearly 500 migrants who arrived in the country by boat. Following criticism by rights groups, the Spanish government said it was due to a lack of space at immigration detention centres.

"We feel it is better that the migrants be held in a centre with the latest technology, with sanitary facilities, showers, heating, beds, sports areas than to put them in camps like in other countries," Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido told radio Onda Cero.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 17,687 migrants reached Spanish shores by boat between January 1 and November 15, compared to 5,445 during the same period in 2016. Italy received 114,000 migrants during this period, and Greece around 25,000.

Spanish police arrest suspected Isis recruiter in Melilla
21 November
[TheLocal.es] Spanish police have arrested a 21-year-old man in North African enclave Melilla for carrying out indoctrination on behalf of Isis. The operation in which he was arrested is still ongoing, and statements will be heard from two further people who expressed support for Isis after being indoctrinated by the arrested man, they concluded.

Investigators found that the man took exceptional security measures in order to avoid being detected by police, maintaining private profiles on social media and avoiding public comments in favour of Isis, only showing his support in private meetings designed to indoctrinate others.

The Spaniard was also in direct contact with people convicted for being part of Isis who indoctrinated then sent fighters from Melilla and Morocco to conflict areas.

France to take in refugees rescued from Libya by UN
20 November
[AlAhram] France will be the first to welcome African refugees evacuated from Libya to NIger by the United Nations refugee agency, French officials announced Monday. The 25 Eritreans, Ethiopians and Sudanese -- including 15 women and four children -- should reach France "at the latest in January," the interior ministry said.

A further 47 refugees who were already living in Niger will also be taken in by France.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian forces captures village in northeastern Donetsk
Ukrainian forces captured a village just three kilometers from the line of contact in northeastern Donetsk, according to an official statement from the Donetsk military leadership.

Gladosovo was captured by elements of the Ukrainian 54th Separate Motorized Brigade and a smaller element of the Aidar volunteer battalion, according to the statement.

The Ukrainian coup is of some importance because it represents another small cost free incursion into rebel held territory. It is a familiar Ukrainian pattern to move forces into a gray zone, which neither force occupies. Gladosovo is just 2 kilometers northeast of the village of Zaistevo, itself under siege and Ukrainian artillery fire for the past two years. Zaistevo itself is directly adjacent to the larger town of Gorlovka.

A previous Ukrainian operation in the spring of 2016, the first of its kind, allowed Ukrainian forces to bring the only hard road that connects Gorlovka to the capital city of Donetsk under observation of Ukrainian artillery spotters. That action forced changes in how civilian traffic was allowed to move between the locales.

Several small scale direct and indirect fire engagements between the two combatants have taken place since then, most notably the artillery dual that for a time knocked out water service to both sides of the line of contact.

According to the Donetsk statement, when Ukrainian forces entered the village on the night of November 21st to November 22nd, all the residents were ordered to stay indoors under the threat of force.

The statement also said the Ukrainian mortars were deployed to the village, and the area around the village was being mined.

At the moment, little media from the Ukrainian side has addressed the operation.

Since two weeks before the Gladosovo operation, larger artillery exchanges have taken place around the western Donetsk town of Dokuchaevsk, which is south of Donetsk. It is unclear in official and private reports exactly why this specific area is subject to increased artillery fire.

The most recent reports from the Ukrainian side say that the usual points are involved in attack from the rebels, such as Avdievka and Zaistevo, and further south near the Sea of Azov in Pavlopol and Vodanoye.

Donetsk military officials say that Dokuchaevsk has been under Ukrainian artillery fire for more than two weeks. In that time 17 structures were damaged. The rebels also showed a damaged Ukrainian drone shot down over Dokuchaevsk, which the rebels claim has been used to adjust artillery fire.

Spokesman for the Donetsk ministry of defense said that the drone belonged to the Ukrainian 28th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade.

Lugansk

Ukrainian military media said that Ukrainian units came under fire from a variety of military weapons and vehicles.

Ukrainian positions were hit by rebel IFVs, 120mm and 82mm mortar fire, and from heavy infantry weapons. Rebel mortars were reported hitting Ukrainian positions in Novoaleksandrovka and Luganskoye.

IFV fire was recorded hitting Ukrainian positions at Stanitsa Luganskaya, Svetlodarsk arc, Novotoshkovskoye, Krymskoye, Novolugansk and Boguslavskoye.

Meet the Native American tribe that shared the first Thanksgiving
[ConservativeReview] The details surrounding the first Thanksgiving meal remain a contested topic among historians. What we do know is that the Pilgrim colonists gathered in Plymouth, Mass., in November 1621 with the Wampanoag tribe to celebrate the fall harvest.

The co-celebrated harvest was considered a remarkable feat of humanity and decency and is celebrated today as a symbol of respect, unity, and family.

There are only two primary sources regarding the harvest celebrated between a supposed 53 Pilgrims and about 90 natives, according to the Pilgrim Hall Museum.

The first, from Pilgrim leader Edward Winslow, said of the feast:

[O]ur harvest being gotten in, our governor sent four men on fowling, that so we might after a special manner rejoice together, after we had gathered the fruits of our labors; they four in one day killed as much fowl, as with a little help beside, served the Company almost a week, at which time amongst other Recreations, we exercised our Arms, many of the Indians coming amongst us, and amongst the rest their greatest king Massasoit, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted, and they went out and killed five Deer, which they brought to the Plantation and bestowed on our Governor, and upon the Captain and others.

And although it be not always so plentiful, as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want, that we often wish you partakers of our plenty.

The second primary source, William Bradford, added:

They began now to gather in the small harvest they had, and to fit up their houses and dwellings against winter, being all well recovered in health and strength and had all things in good plenty. For as some were thus employed in affairs abroad, others were exercised in fishing, about cod and bass and other fish, of which they took good store, of which every family had their portion.

All the summer there was no want; and now began to come in store of fowl, as winter approached, of which this place did abound when they came first (but afterward decreased by degrees). And besides waterfowl there was great store of wild turkeys, of which they took many, besides venison, etc. Besides, they had about a peck of meal a week to a person, or now since harvest, Indian corn to that proportion. Which made many afterwards write so largely of their plenty here to their friends in England, which were not feigned but true reports.

So what has become of the Wampanoag tribe? And what happened to King Massasoit?

Wampanoag means "easterners," in obvious reference to their geographic location.

Today, members of the tribe identify by the same name, while some prefer to be identified as descendants of King Massasoit. The English colonists made first contact with the tribe in the early 17th century. During that time, the Wampanoag held territory in modern-day Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts.

Massasoit, meanwhile, is credited with helping the Pilgrims stave off almost certain starvation. He was also known as a great diplomat, helping his tribe stay afloat during periods of plague and warfare.

After a Pilgrim doctor helped him recover from a serious illness, he once reportedly said that "the English are my friends and love me ... whilst I live I will never forget this kindness they have showed me." For some 50 years, he kept his tribe out of warfare and/or entangling alliances that could potentially result in conflict.

Tragically, much of the Wampanoag tribe was wiped out by an epidemic likely brought ashore by the Pilgrims. Fifty years later, the group again suffered tremendous losses during King Philip’s War, a one-year conflict between a coalition of Native American tribes against English colonists and their Native American allies. Following their defeat, many Wampanoags were sold into slavery.

The Wampanoag once spoke a language of their own, called Wopanaak, but the last remaining speaker of the indigenous language passed away over a century ago. However, thanks to the Wopanaak Language Reclamation Project, new efforts have been made to teach the native language.

According to the American Indian Heritage Foundation, "Today, about 3,000 Wampanoag Indians still live in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. There is a reservation for the Wampanoag Indians on Martha’s Vineyard that was set up by the United States government."

Le Pen slams 'banking fatwa' against National Front after accounts closed
The deep state intends to ensure the anti-colonist party is shut out.
[TheLocal.fr] French far-right leader Marine Le Pen on Wednesday said she would take banking giants HSBC and Societe Generale to court for discrimination after they moved to close her personal and party accounts.

Le Pen, who lost the presidential election in May to Emmanuel Macron, said her National Front (FN) party was being deliberately cut off from financing as part of a "banking fatwa" against the far-right.

"After being the victim of massive judicial persecution, we are witnessing a new stage in the persecution of the National Front -- banishment from banking," she told a presser.

Her claim of "judicial persecution" was a reference to the decision by parliament earlier this month to strip her of her immunity from prosecution for tweeting pictures of atrocities by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

Le Pen said that Societe Generale had asked the FN to close its accounts, while HSBC's French boss Thomas Vandeville called her Wednesday to announce her personal account was being shut, "without any justification".

Societe Generale said in a statement that its decisions "on whether to open or close a bank account depend purely on banking reasons and in respect of all regulatory requirements, without taking into account any political consideration".

A spokeswoman for HSBC La Belle France said the bank does not "publicly discuss our relationships with our clients."

Le Pen repeatedly complained during the election campaign that the FN had been refused loans by both French and foreign banks.

The party borrowed nine million euros ($10.5 million) from a Russian bank in 2014, prompting critics to question whether Moscow had influence over the party.

Le Pen said Societe Generale's recent decision was "depriving a party that won 11 million votes in the last presidential election of all practical ability to function".

"We are cut off at present from our income. This decision puts the National Front in a position of serious difficulty and prevents the party from functioning normally," she said.

"We are witnessing an attempt by the opposition to suffocate us."

She blasted Societe Generale's decision as a politically motivated measure against a party which has "tens of millions of members, stable resources and no problems with our accounts whatsoever".

Le Pen said she had raised her party's financial problems with Macron.

She became a personal customer at international giant HSBC after her bank Hervet was taken over in 2001 by Credit Commercial de La Belle France, which is part of HSBC.

North Korea 'full of rage, anger' over name being put on US 'wretched' terror list
[DAWN] North Korea on Wednesday condemned its US terror listing as a "serious provocation", warning that sanctions would never force it to abandon its nuclear weapons programme.

The response came shortly after China, the North's sole ally, also rejected the new US sanctions that targeted Chinese companies doing business with the pariah states, as "wrong".

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on Monday declared North Korea a state sponsor of terrorism, a spot on a US blacklist Pyongyang had shed nearly a decade ago.

On Tuesday the US unveiled its fresh sanctions which also targeted North Korean shipping, raising the pressure on the North to abandon its nuclear programme.

"Our army and people are full of rage and anger towards the heinous gangsters who dared to put the name of our sacred country in this wretched list of 'terrorism'," North Korean state news agency KCNA quoted a foreign ministry spokesperson as saying.

Slamming Washington for behaving like an "international judge on terrorism", the spokesperson added that the US move was "clearly an absurdity and a mockery of world peace and security".

Iraq
Iraqi refugees repatriated to Anbar, Salahuddin, Nineveh

Commander: 240 Iraqi refugee families repatriated in Anbar, Salahuddin

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Two-hundred and forty Iraqi families have been repatriated to their home regions in Anbar and Salahuddin provinces after expelling Islamic State militants, a military commander was quoted saying.

Maj. Gen. Mahmoud al-Falahi, commander of Anbar Operations, was quoted Wednesday by IkhNews saying that buses were secured to return those families along with their belongings.

“Those families have lived at refugee camps for four years,” Falahi said.

Refugee camps in Anbar still host tens of thousands of displaced families.

Earlier this month, Human Rights Watch accused Iraqi security officials in Anbar of hampering the repatriation of civilians at areas retaken from the Islamic State over suspicions of having links with the militant group.

In the same time, the organization said Iraqi officials were also forcing other reluctant families to return home even as those families feel it is unsafe to repatriate.

The United Nations says nearly five million people have been displaced since Islamic State militants took over large areas of Iraq in 2014 to proclaim a self-styled “Islamic Caliphate.”

Ministry: 446 Iraqi refugees in Syria returned to Nineveh

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A total of 446 Iraqis who had sought refuge in a Syrian camp from Islamic State militancy have returned to their home regions, the Iraqi migration ministry said Wednesday.

Khaled Abdel-Karim, head of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement’s office in Nineveh, told Alghad Press that nearly 446 refugees al-Houl camp in in Syria’s Hassaka returned to the province.

“The refugees were transported to Hammam al-Alil camp south of Nineveh for security vetting and will stay there for the time being”.

In October, the ministry said it returned 1250 refugees displaced by the war against Islamic State militants from the same camp.

Al-Houl contains 130 housing units that can admit 200 families, and was established during the United States invasion of Iraq under a United Nations supervision.

Iraqi authorities had unveiled plans to repatriate all refugees before this year’s end. A campaign launched in 2016, and backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, managed to retake all of Islamic State-held territories, most notably Mosul, the group’s former capital, by November 17th.

Seattle's income tax on the wealthy is illegal, judge rules
[SeattleTimes] Seattle's income tax on wealthy households failed its first legal test Wednesday, with a King County Superior Court ruling that the measure is illegal.

In a summary judgment, Judge John R. Ruhl agreed with multiple challengers that the city ordinance adopted in July is not authorized under state law.

Opponents of Seattle's so-called "wealth tax" immediately hailed the ruling as proof that the city long has known the tax was legally flawed, but nonetheless pushed it into law.

"The city knowingly violated several laws in imposing this tax," said Brian T. Hodges, a senior attorney for the Pacific Legal Foundation, which represented several Seattle residents challenging the law. "This ruling is probably the worst scenario for the city and the best scenario for the opponents of the income tax."

While Wednesday's decision is disappointing, the city intends to appeal it directly to the State Supreme Court, where officials always expected the question to be decided, a spokeswoman for Seattle City Attorney Pete Holmes said in an email.

In a joint statement, Holmes and Seattle Mayor Tim Burgess said their goal is to eliminate the state's overreliance on regressive sales taxes and ensure the wealthy pay their fair share.

Washington's tax system has been called the most regressive in the country, meaning that low-income people pay a much higher percentage of their earnings than wealthier residents.

Passed by a unanimous City Council vote in July and subsequently signed into law by former Mayor Ed Murray, the Seattle measure would impose a 2.25 percent tax on total income above $250,000 for individuals and above $500,000 for married couples filing together. The city estimates it would raise about $140 million a year.

Proponents say that money could be used to lower property taxes, help the homeless and expand provide affordable housing.

The tax was immediately challenged by private citizens and organizations, including the Olympia-based free-market think tank The Freedom Foundation.

Wednesday's ruling undercut most of the city's legal arguments for the tax, pointing out that state law explicitly prohibits taxes on net income.

The city had argued that its tax would apply to "total income" instead of net. The city also described it as an excise tax, imposed on those who live in Seattle in the same way excise taxes are imposed on companies that do business in the city.

The judge disagreed.

" … the City's tax, which is labeled ‘Income Tax,' is exactly that," he wrote. "It cannot be restyled as an ‘excise tax' on the … ‘privileges' of receiving revenue in Seattle or choosing to live in Seattle."

The judge did not rule on whether the tax violates a provision in the state constitution requiring all property taxes be imposed uniformly.

The opponents argue that income is property, so it's not legal to single out the wealthy for taxation, Hodges explained.

"In order to uphold its income tax, the city would have to convince a court that individual income is not protected by the constitution," he said.

At the Supreme Court, Seattle officials hope to attack the long-standing interpretation that income taxes are property taxes, opening the door to what proponents see as a fairer tax system statewide.

"In order to build a more just and equitable society for all, we need a serious overhaul of our state's tax structure," Holmes and Burgess said in their statement.

#8  The city estimates it would raise about $140 million a year.

Until the wealthy citizens of that city decide to flee.

Yeah, and they're always talking about affordable housing. But what, exactly, is affordable housing? In my experience it's an excuse for developers to make a fortune building cheap, multiple family condominium complexes in cities where the infrastructure is already overloaded and charging the going rate for them. I don't know about Seattle but in San Diego the going rate is anywhere from $500,000 to $1,000,000 for what is basically a cracker box. Then the existing community gets to deal with the impact on schools, hospitals, water, fire and police protection and traffic. Excuse me, but if you really want affordable try Detroit.

Adam Smith's way of saying "move elsewhere"

#10  Sort of

Adam Smith would be against income taxation full stop

He would not be opposed to "property tax" if it was on the unimproved ground rent.

Using income taxation to subsidise property tax is the worst idea EVER for an economy.

#11  And Washington State has a Sales Tax - with a 'local' (Seattle) perentage add-on. I didn't hear of any discussion of lowering the sales tax.

So this 'income tax' on the wealthy is in addition to existing taxes - and you just know that their definition of 'wealthy' will drop over time until it incorporates the entire middle class.
