The Federal Judge Overseeing Michael Flynn's Sentencing Just Dropped A Major Bombshell
[The Federalist] The sentencing memorandum reveals for the first time concrete evidence that the FBI created multiple summaries of Michael Flynn’s questioning, which may indicate they’re hiding the truth.

On Tuesday, attorneys for Michael Flynn filed a sentencing memorandum and letters of support for the former Army lieutenant general in federal court. The sentencing memorandum reveals for the first time concrete evidence that the FBI created multiple 302 interview summaries of Flynn’s questioning by now-former FBI agent Peter Strzok and a second unnamed agent, reported to be FBI Special Agent Joe Pientka.

Further revelations may be forthcoming soon following an order entered late yesterday by presiding judge Emmet Sullivan, directing the special counsel’s office to file with the court any 302s or memorandum relevant to Flynn’s interview.

Victor Davis Hanson: Comey Continues to Display His Lack of Credibility
[National Review] When put under oath, he suddenly becomes much less certain. Fired former FBI director James Comey is at it again.

Last week, Comey testified before members of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. In a single appearance, Comey, on 245 separate occasions, while under oath, stonewalled questions with "I don’t know," "I don’t remember" or "I don’t recall," according to a congressional interrogator, Representative Jim Jordan (R., Ohio).

If any private citizen tried Comey’s gambit with federal IRS auditors or FBI investigators, he would likely be indicted for perjury or obstruction.

Why did Comey, the nation’s former top-ranking federal investigator, avoid telling "the whole truth and nothing but the truth" while under oath?

The answer is, unfortunately, obvious. Comey has been called to testify before members of Congress on numerous occasions. He has written a long book and gone on an extensive book tour, and his paper trail is long.

He tweets almost daily and is often on television, and in those venues, he never seems to admit to any memory lapse. And Comey has been at the center of every major scandal involving the 2016 election.

#1  Actually smart move by Comey. Refusing to answer is contempt, actually answering risks perjury, but there's no way to prove he remembers if he says he does not. Plus, it worked for Hillary.

Border agents are copying travelers' data, leaving it on USB drives
Government is just another word for fucking shit up together
[NakedSecurity] Are you one of the travelers to the US who've been stopped, questioned, and required to hand over your electronic devices for search?

Our apologies: there's a good chance that we still have your data kicking around on a USB drive. Somewhere. Maybe. Unless we lost it, I guess.

#1  Or travel with a "scrubbed" laptop & ship the data ahead of you or leave it encrypted online somewhere for you to access later. Then scrub the laptop before you return.
Of course with this lousy security, it would be trivial for border agents to put crap on your devices, to be discovered at a later time & make you guilty of a felony. THAT has probably been happening too.

Super easy, barely an inconvenience. You can even diddle the timestamps on the files to make it look they've been there for a while.

Judge in Flynn case orders Mueller to turn over interview docs after bombshell claim of FBI pressure (opens to video)
[FOX] One day after former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's legal team made the bombshell allegation that the FBI had pushed him not to bring a lawyer to his fateful Jan. 24, 2017 interview with agents at the White House, the federal judge overseeing Flynn's criminal case is demanding answers from Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan ordered Mueller late Wednesday to turn over all of the government's documents and "memoranda" related to Flynn's questioning. The extraordinary demand puts Mueller under the microscope, and sets a 3:00 p.m. EST Friday deadline for the special counsel's office to produce the sensitive FBI documents.

Sullivan -- who overturned the 2008 conviction of former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens after government misconduct came to light -- is weighing how to sentence Flynn, who pleaded guilty to one count of lying to federal authorities during the 2017 interview in the West Wing. Flynn faced mounting legal bills that forced him to sell his home amid the prosecution, and Mueller has already recommended he receive no prison time.

The judge's brief order states that Mueller can choose to file the materials under seal if necessary.

Sullivan also ordered the Flynn team to turn over the documents backing up its assertions. The judge could determine why the FBI apparently took a significantly more aggressive tack in handling the Flynn interview than it did during other similar matters, including the agency's sit-downs with Hillary Clinton and ex-Trump adviser George Papadopoulos.

Flynn is set to be sentenced next Tuesday -- but Sullivan's move might delay that date, or lead to other dramatic and unexpected changes in the case. Sullivan even has the authority to toss Flynn's guilty plea and the charge against him if he concludes that the FBI interfered with Flynn's constitutional right to counsel, although he has given no indications that he intends to do so.

#1  The judge's brief order states that Mueller can choose to file the materials under seal if necessary.

So basically this is a nothing story. In my opinion, Mueller won't turn over shit until he's hung by his toes over some tourist tar pit. At the bottom of hell.

Yes Virginia deporting him to Guam might be funnier.

#2  The only reason I can imagine why these documents are so sensitive is that they're gonna show the FBI screwed up.
Posted by: Abu Uluque || 12/13/2018 12:41 Comments || Top||

#3  The documents are going to show that the feebs lied and committed numerous felonies in their frame up job on Gen. Flynn. If they see the light of day, they will also cut the legs out from under Mueller's investigation and clear the way for the Obama/Clinton crime cartel to be indicted.
Posted by: Gomez B. Hayes9824 || 12/13/2018 13:55 Comments || Top||

#4  Team Mueller won't turn over the documents--doctored or not--for that exact reason. Judge Sullivan who has a history of throwing the book at DOJ (Ted Stevens trial) will toss out the case and issue some stern words but not take it further than that.
Posted by: Classical_Liberal || 12/13/2018 14:40 Comments || Top||

#5  If he turns them over, the judge will see coercion, and denial of constitutional rights. And toss the entire Flynn case which opens up any of the others based of fruit of the poisoned tree, and Mueller's entire framework of lies unravels.

Don't Underestimate Dumb Voters' Appetite For Idiot Leftist Politicians
[Townhall] You should not for a moment fail to appreciate the risk posed to your freedom by left-wing It-Fascists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Beto O’Rourke. There’s an undeniable appeal of this kind of Potemkin Politician for the kind of morons that the Democrats count on at the ballot box. Sure, the Nitwit Naïf is ridiculously ignorant and dumb ‐ she knows nothing and demonstrates no capacity to learn anything. Sure, Tex Kennedy is a meat puppet dancing on the strings held by his masters. But this is the same country where the voters elected Barack Obama, twice.

...Remember that a plurality of the voters voted for Felonia Milhous von Pantsuit; the Electoral College is not going to save our freedom forever. We need to get woke to the threat and act accordingly.

...The point is not to draw some false equivalence between these two media darlings and the president, because they represent very different situations.

...AOC and Beto are something entirely different. They will be protected by the media, and actively covered for. That’s because they are elite catspaws disguised as radical disrupters. Though they attempt to speak the language of outsiders, every single thing they propose is exactly in line with the desires of the elite establishment.

Europe
Poland and Hungary block ‘LGBTIQ rights' from being enshrined in EU legislation
[LifeSite] BRUSSELS, December 12, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) ‐ Poland and Hungary blocked the inclusion of "LGBTIQ" rights in a common European Union statement.

Last week representatives from Poland and Hungary annoyed other European Union (EU) member states by vetoing the inclusion of the "LGBTIQ" acronym in a joint statement by employment and social affairs ministers meant to promote "gender equity in the digital era."

LGBTIQ is a reference to people who derive their identity from lesbianism, homosexuality, bisexuality, transgenderism, intersexuality, or an experimental "questioning" approach to sexuality.

The European employment and social affairs ministers collectively form the EU Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO), which meets four times a year. Its most recent meeting was held in Brussels on December 6. Brussels is the capital of the European Union.

The official EPSCO Council Conclusions now refer only to "gender equality, youth and digitalization." To appease the other member states, who were reportedly furious with Poland’s and Hungary’s veto, Austria added a reference to "LGBTIQ" to the document in its current capacity as holder of the Presidency of the European Council. However, this addition is classified as only "presidential conclusions," which do not have the legal significance of formal Council conclusions.

One of the ministers complained vociferously about the actions of the Hungarian and Polish members.

According to Politico, Wouter Koolmees, the Dutch minister for social affairs and employment, called "LGBTIQ" rights "core values" of the European Union.

"LGBTIQ inclusion and equality are core values of our European Union," he said. "This is where I draw the line. We will never compromise our principles. This is not up for discussion and should have never been an issue for any member state. So I am happy that the reference is back in the text. Although I do regret we were not able to adopt them as Council conclusions."

Fiat Chrysler may review $5.7 billion plan if Italy taxes diesel, petrol cars
MILAN (Reuters) - Fiat Chrysler (FCA) could review its 5 billion euro ($5.7 billion) Italian investment plan, which includes a shift to cleaner engines, if Rome raises taxes on petrol and diesel cars.

"Were these measures to be confirmed as of 2019, a thorough examination of their impact and an update to plans already announced would be necessary," FCA’s (FCHA.MI) Europe head, Pietro Gorlier, said in a letter to government representatives in the northern Piedmont region, where some of the new investment would be targeted.

In an amendment to the 2019 budget law passed in Italy’s lower house last week, the government approved subsidies of up to 6,000 euros for lower emission vehicles, but included a surcharge of up to 3,000 euros on petrol and diesel cars.

Mmm, clean, non-polluting electric cars! Of course, the harsh reality is those electrons have to come from somewhere because. contrary to green belief, electrons are not a byproduct of unicorns farting rainbows. That leave wind, solar, fossil fuels, or uranium. Wind and solar are intermittent and tend not to work well at night. tl;dr: your green car is powered on decomposed dinosaurs or a nuke plant.

Britain
Remembering 21 December 1988 and Lockerbie
[BBC] Marjory McQueen was in the living room of her home in Lockerbie watching television with her teenage daughter Victoria.

It was the shortest day of the year and there were just four more days until Christmas. For the McQueen family, like millions of others in the UK, the must-see midweek show was This is Your Life.

Children’s entertainer Harry Corbett was the celebrity being surprised by presenter Michael Aspel who was dressed as Sooty, one of Corbett’s glove puppet creations.

As the programme got into its rhythm, Marjory became unsettled by a noise ‐ "I think I hear thunder," she said to 14-year-old Victoria.

But instead of rumbling away, the thunder kept getting louder. "Oh, I wonder if the boiler’s about to explode," the 42-year-old thought.
"The whole sky turned orange and there were flames hundreds of feet up into the air."

Marjory McQueen

Marjory, whose doctor husband Ken was out with friends, was so baffled by this sound she ventured into the cold wintry night.

'He got out and opened fire': 2 killed, 2 critically wounded in West Bank
[JPost - Breaking News] In a devastating terrorist attack on Thursday, two Israelis were killed and two others were seriously wounded in the West Bank, just north of Jerusalem. Givat Asaf, the site of the shooting, is a main junction two kilometers south of Ofra, scene of Sunday's attack
sounds like a lovely place
The shots were fired by a Palestinian who got out of his car and started shooting. He then fled the scene and his car was located by security forces near Ramallah.

One Palestinian involved in the incident has been arrested while wearing an IDF military uniform, according to initial reports.

The dead and wounded were said to be in their 20s. The two wounded - a man and woman - were evacuated to Jerusalem's Shaarei Zedek Medical Center.

"A car stopped at a hitchhiking spot and at least one suspect got out and fired shots towards both civilians and soldiers," Manelis said adding that the suspect got back into the car before it fled the scene. It is unclear whether troops at the scene opened fire at the car.

Another Canadian Now Missing in China, Minister Says It's Businessman Michael Spavor
[Epoch Times] BEIJING‐Canada’s Foreign Ministry said it has been unable to contact Canadian businessman Michael Spavor, since he notified the government that he was being questioned by Chinese authorities.

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland earlier told reporters that a second Canadian citizen could be in trouble in China.

"We are aware of a Canadian who got in touch with us because he was being asked questions by Chinese authorities," Freeland told the media on Dec. 12. "We have not been able to make contact with him since he let us know."

Authorities in China are already holding former diplomat Michael Kovrig who was detained on Dec. 10.

China has reacted angrily to Canada’s arrest on Dec. 1 of Chinese executive Meng Wanzhou, the chief financial officer of China’s Huawei Technologies and Spavor’s disappearance is likely to further escalate the diplomatic row.

Wall Street Buys Stock in Senator Sherrod Brown
How they become millionaires.
[Free Beacon] Democratic senator Sherrod Brown (Ohio) has raked in millions of dollars from the financial and banking sectors despite depicting himself as an anti-Wall Street populist.

Brown, who is weighing a run for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, has raised more than $7.3 million from the finance, insurance, and real estate industries since joining Congress in 1998. Of that total, more than $1.8 million came from donors in the security and investment industry‐a subsection of Wall Street.

The overwhelming majority of those contributions to Brown‐more than $6 million‐began pouring into his coffers after his election to the U.S. Senate in 2006. As denoted by the Center for Responsive Politics, the donations have only increased in scale since 2015 when Brown became the top Democrat on the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.

The senator has accepted the donations while simultaneously denouncing Wall Street and "corporate greed." Earlier this year, Brown laid out his views on the industry: "Wall Street’s business model systematically undermines American workers," Brown told an Americans for Financial Reform forum in July. "Corporations and their CEOs focus almost exclusively on their quarterly performance in the stock market.... We need to change how we think about the economy‐CEOs don’t drive the economy."

"We need policies that restructure our economy so that workers share in the profits they create, and Wall Street doesn't determine when workers keep their jobs or how much is in their paychecks."

Despite the tough rhetoric, Brown's support from the financial and banking sectors has continued to flow unabated.

During his reelection campaign this year, the senator pulled in more than $5 million from finance, insurance, and real estate interests. A substantial portion of that amount‐more than $1 million‐was raised from the security and investment industry. Overall, more than $3.3 million of the contributions came from individual donors, while more than $1.7 million came from industry-affiliated PACs.

National Enquirer owner admits paying ex-Playboy model $150,000 to squelch story, help Trump campaign
[USA TODAY] NEW YORK ‐ The owner of the National Enquirer has admitted the company paid off a former Playboy model to squelch her account of an alleged sexual affair that could have jeopardized Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

New York federal prosecutors on Wednesday disclosed that the intent of a $150,000 payment American Media Inc. gave the woman in August 2016 "was to suppress the model's story so as to prevent it from influencing the election."

Without naming Trump, prosecutors released a nonprosecution agreement with American Media that said the transaction was made "in cooperation, consultation, and concert with ... one or more members or agents of a candidate's 2016 presidential campaign."

The filing similarly did not identify Karen McDougal, the former Playboy model who contacted a National Enquirer editor in June 2016 in an effort to sell her account of a 10-month sexual affair she said she'd had with Trump in 2006 and 2007.

However, the outlines of the nonprosecution agreement generally match McDougal's previous public statements about Trump and the National Enquirer.

Trump Threatens Government Shutdown If Democrats Don't Explain The Ending Of 'Interstellar' To Him
SATIRE ALERT
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐Talks between President Trump and Democratic leaders Charles Schumer and Nancy Pelosi took a rocky turn this week. Trump had watched the Christopher Nolan movie Interstellar the previous night, which led to a heated argument in which Trump finally threatened a government shutdown if the Democrats did not give him a satisfactory explanation of the movie’s ending.

"And where were the space aliens that were guiding Matthew McConaughey the whole time?" Trump demanded.

"It was McConaughey guiding himself the whole time," Schumer explained.

"McConaughey was an alien the whole time?"

"There were no aliens!"

"I’m serious! I will gladly shut this government down if you don’t show me the aliens from Interstellar!" Trump finally threatened.

Pelosi tried to explain to Trump that a closed time loop was a common science fiction trope. Pelosi furthermore tried to argue the theme of the movie really was love, but Trump was having none of that and just wanted to know how that tesseract thing was made in the black hole.

Occasionally, Vice President Mike Pence would comment that he hadn’t seen the movie and wanted to avoid spoilers, but he was ignored.

One particular point of contention was Trump’s assertion that the planet that Matt Damon’s character was rescued from was Mars, as Trump insisted he distinctly remembered that’s where Damon had been stranded. The Democrats were eventually able to convince Trump that he was conflating two different movies. The government still seems headed for a shutdown, though, as no one was able to give Trump a satisfactory answer of why, instead of going into space, people didn’t just farm blight-free food "in a biosphere or something."

Suspected Terrorist Leading Migrant Group Demanding Entry Into US
[Daily Caller] A suspect in a 1987 bombing that wounded six American soldiers in Honduras is leading a group of migrants demanding entry into the United States.

Alfonso Guerrero Ulloa organized a march of approximately 100 migrants to the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana, Mexico, on Tuesday, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Ulloa delivered a letter to the consulate on behalf of the migrants, asking for either entry into the U.S. or a payment of $50,000 per person.

"It may seem like a lot of money to you," Ulloa told the Union-Tribune. "But it is a small sum compared to everything the United States has stolen from Honduras."

Ulloa has lived in Mexico since 1987 after fleeing Honduras in the wake of a bombing that wounded six soldiers. Ulloa was suspected of planting a bomb in a Chinese restaurant, but received asylum from Mexico, whose government described the suspected terrorist as a "freedom fighter."

An appropriations bill passed by Congress in December 1987 included Congress’s findings that "the bomb was directed at American soldiers and did in fact wound American soldiers and an American contractor." The report noted that Ulloa was a suspect in the bombing.

Top 10 Reasons You Should Own An AR-15
[TheFederalist] In a recent item for The Federalist, David Harsanyi considered the M16 rifle one of the five most innovative firearms in American firearm development history. Yet something equally significant can be said about the semi-automatic AR-15 derived from the M16. Second to the muskets used in our revolutionary and civil wars, the AR-15 may be the most important firearm in American political history.

All told, more Americans have fired more rounds from more AR-15s for personal defense, defensive firearm training, marksmanship competitions, individual practice, and hunting than from any other rifle. For that reason, the AR-15 is the primary firearm upon which Americans would rely if they had to fight for freedom today.

Here are 10 reasons to own at least one AR-15 and to become skilled in its use.

President Trump sprang three traps on Pelosi and Schumer yesterday
[American Thinker] President Trump clearly shocked House speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer yesterday with his televising of the Oval Office sit-down over his demand for $5 billion in funding for border security, including funding of critical mileage for his border wall. Knowing well that Pelosi had already vowed publicly that "transparency and openness" would characterize the Democrat-run House starting next month, her plaintive request to speak in private scored points for Trump and revealed her hypocrisy before any substance at all was considered.

The remarkable body language during the meeting tells the story of Trump's dominance. Here is the full video of the press gaggle, via Grabien:

What If Some Members Of Congress Have Alzheimer's?
[Hot Air] This is a subject which popped up on Twitter this morning and even though it deals with a story that more than a year old it’s worth a quick look. The subject at hand deals with an article in Vox (I know... I know...) from last October which cites a report from Statnews that same year. It deals with a pharmacist in the Washington area who is quoted as revealing some health information about members of Congress without naming any names. He sees some of the members regularly, filling prescriptions for them, and allegedly some of those medications are for Alzheimer’s Disease.

FBI (doing it's job) kept files on peaceful climate change protesters
[Guardian] A protest at a BP plant in Indiana landed three sixtysomething campaigners in a federal surveillance report, documents released to the Guardian under the Freedom on Information Act.

On 15 May 2016 three friends from Fairfield, Iowa, made the five-hour drive to an oil refinery on the shores of Lake Michigan to participate in what was part of a series of protests and acts of civil disobedience in the fight against climate change. They had every intention of getting arrested. What they didn’t expect was to end up in an FBI file for taking part in a peaceful protest.

But according to documents obtained by the Guardian through a Freedom of Information Act (Foia) lawsuit, the file on the Iowa protesters was part of a larger effort by the FBI to assess the danger posed by the climate change activist group 350.org in the run-up to a series of actions that were part of the Break Free from Fossil Fuels campaign. The FBI released seven pages and withheld 25.

Though there is no evidence the FBI has opened an investigation into 350.org, one of the documents, catalogued as part of a related domestic terrorism case, says: "350.org are referenced in multiple investigations and assessments for their planned protests and disruptions." The file also makes an apparent reference to the 350.org founder Bill McKibben.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
America, Crimea, and Ukraine: The Desirable over the Achievable
[AmericanThinker] The Crimea and Eastern Ukrainian conflicts are two of many ethnic conflicts that have become common in the post-Cold War period. In many countries arbitrarily created after the Second World War the unifying principle was the power of the state that forced citizens to tolerate a plethora of incompatibilities. Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Ukraine are prime products of this geopolitical engineering.

The collapse of the Soviet Union and the subsequent demise of the so-called "socialist camp" resulted in weakening or overthrowing the authoritarian regimes. The absence of enforcement gave rise to nationalistic aspirations that challenge the cohesiveness of the established order, in some instances, to the point of no order at all.

Modern Ukraine is an agglomeration of the territories of the original Ukrainian People's Republic created after the disintegration of the Russian Empire in 1917 and the neighboring countries with some historical and cultural links to Ukraine, and Novo-Russia, or Eastern Ukraine. The most recent addition was Crimea, which Nikita Khrushchev, with proletarian generosity and in violation of the Soviet Constitution, transferred to Ukraine.

After the collapse of the USSR, the Russian population of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine found itself trapped under Ukrainian rule. Pro-Russian sentiments ‐ ranging from the recognition of the official status of the Russian language to outright secession ‐ have always been prevalent in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine and are the roots of the current conflict.

...Usually, in conflicts, each side is pursuing an outcome incompatible with the strategic ambition of its adversary. In this case, however, neither Petro Poroshenko nor Vladimir Putin wants Eastern Ukraine. Putin could occupy Eastern Ukraine within 48 hours and face no resistance. Poroshenko could accept a limited autonomy for the belligerent East, which it demanded from the outset, and avoid a bloody conflict altogether.

But the rulers in Kiev are not motivated by "one country, one destiny"; they are not motivated by concern for the stability and integrity of Ukraine. Rather, they are moved by billions in financial aid. The aspiration of Poroshenko and his cronies is to become in some sense the Palestinians of Europe, victims of Russian aggression, just as the actual Palestinians are perceived as being victims of Israel. Defeated by superior force, they want the E.U. to adopt them and make Ukraine a black hole for billions of dollars and euros, with no end in sight.

With Friends Like Angela Merkel, Does Israel Need Enemies?

Last Saturday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union Party voted down a motion to freeze funding for the Palestinian Authority until it stops its "pay to slay" imbursements to terrorists and their families. The motion stated that "with the payments, the PA knowingly and willingly supports terror against Israel and makes this a worthy financial business." But Merkel’s party wasn’t moved.

One day later, a Palestinian terror attack seriously wounded a pregnant woman. The baby, who was delivered in an emergency procedure, held out for a few days and died on Wednesday.

Google Hosts Sharia Law App Enabling Muslims to Report Blasphemy and Heresy to the Police (or to whomever they wish)
[PJ] On December 7, 2018, the Google Play Store approved the latest version of "Smart Pakem," an app that allows Muslims in Jakarta, the capital of the largest Muslim country on earth, to report violations of Sharia law such as blasphemy and even heresy. The app allows users to report people who practice unrecognized religions or unorthodox interpretations of Indonesia's six officially recognized faiths: Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Protestant Christianity, and Roman Catholic Christianity.

According to Google's translation on the Google Play Store,"Smart Pakem" intends "to make it easier to find information and manage religion, belief flow and community organizations in the jurisdiction of DKI Jakarta," the capital of Indonesia.
Basically a 'targeting' App.
The app, which has more than 1,000 installs, claims to provide a list of "laws and regulations that regulate the activities of the flow of beliefs in the community."

While most areas of Indonesia do not enforce the entirety of Sharia (Islamic law), the national criminal code prohibits blasphemy, which it defines as "the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things." Article 156(a) makes it illegal to "express feelings of hostility, hatred, or contempt against religion," with a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Physicist linked to China program
[Wash Times] A noted Chinese-born physicist and Stanford University quantum scientist who died Dec. 1 was linked to Beijing’s major program to corner the world market in key advanced technologies.

Zhang Shoucheng, 55, died in an apparent suicide and had suffered from depression, according to his family.

However, his death came days after a Nov. 30 report by U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer linking the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Danhua Capital, which Zhang founded and led, to China’s "Made in China 2025" technology dominance program.

The 2025 program was launched in 2015 and has been cited by the Trump administration to show that Beijing is engaged in a strategic program of stealing American know-how. The program is aimed at helping China dominate world markets in advanced technologies, including aerospace, information and communications technology, robotics, industrial machinery, new materials and automobiles.

Stanford said in a statement that Zhang was involved in quantum physics research related to interacting electrons. The research led to predictions of new phenomena and exotic states of matter. He took part in research on novel materials, quantum gravity and artificial intelligence.

UN Reports More Suspected Iranian Missiles Found in Yemen
[AnNahar] More suspected Iranian-made weapons have been found in Yemen, the UN says in a report that will be discussed Wednesday by the Security Council.

The Gulf monarchies and United States accuse Iran of supporting Houthis in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
-- and see this as justification for the military campaign they have been waging in Yemen since 2015.

Iran supports the rebels politically but denies supplying them with arms.

The report from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres' office says his staff examined two container launch units for anti-tank guided missiles recovered by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

"The Secretariat found that they had characteristics of Iranian manufacture," the report said.

"The Secretariat also examined a partly disassembled surface-to-air missile seized by the Saudi-led coalition and observed that its features appeared to be consistent with those of an Iranian missile," it added.

A probe into the origin of the weapons continues, it said.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was expected to attend Wednesday's meeting on Iran, scheduled to start at 1500 GMT.

Guterres' report mainly addresses Iran's obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal it struck with six major powers. The United States pulled out of the accord in May and has reimposed sanctions on Iran.

The report concludes that Iran continues to abide by the nuclear accord, under which it won sanctions relief in exchange for limiting its nuclear program.

The UN has said in the past that Yemen's Houthis have fired Iranian-made missiles at Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
. But it said it could not be certain that these weapons were in fact supplied by Iran in what would be a violation of UN resolutions.

Jihadists Deny Mali Leader Killed in French-Led Attack
[Ananahar] al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb Tuesday denied that Malian jihadist leader Amadou Koufa
... a radical preacher and one of the top deputies in Mali's most prominent jihadi group, Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Moslemin (JNIM). JNIM is an umbrella organization of regional terrorist groups including al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM) Sahara Emirate, al-Mourabitoun, and local groups Macina Liberation Front (MLF) and Ansar al-Din (AAD)...
had been killed during a November raid by French forces, according to a statement released by the Mauritanian news agency Alakhbar.

International media reported that Koufa was killed along with 34 others but he was not at the site and he was neither killed nor maimed, AQIM chief Abdelmalik Droukdel
... aka Abdel Wadoud, was a regional leader of the GSPC for several years before becoming the group's supremo in 2004 following the death of then-leader Nabil Sahraoui. Under Abdel Wadoud's leadership the GSPC has sought to develop itself from a largely domestic entity into a larger player on the international terror stage. In September 2006 it was announced that the GSPC had joined forces with al-Qaeda and in January 2007 the group officially changed its name to the Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb....
said, according to the transcript of an audio recording translated into English and broadcast by Alakhbar, which frequently publishes statements attributed to bad boy groups.

Malian and French authorities had said Amadou Koufa was killed in a raid led by French troops in the centre of the country.

Koufa, a radical preacher, surfaced three years ago and was blamed for several violent attacks and for stoking sectarian conflict.

Droukdel claimed the announcement on the disappearance of the jihadist was a "manoeuvre" by Gay Paree to divert the attention of the French people from what was happening in the street, an allusion to the "yellow vest" protests.

On November 23, the French army said it had conducted an operation the previous night in central Mali, Koufa's stronghold, which resulted in "30 terrorists" being "neutralised".

French armed forces minister Florence Parly had hailed the action "which made it possible to neutralise an important terrorist detachment in which was probably one of Iyad Ag Ghali's main assistants, Amadou Koufa".

Malian military sources had confirmed the death of Koufa, who had appeared in a video two weeks earlier with Iyad Ag Ghali, the leader of the Group to Support Islam and Moslems (GSIM), which has repeatedly struck military and civilian targets in Mali and neighbouring Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
"The terrorist Amadou Koufa died of his injuries after the French military intervention, following information provided by the Malian army, General Abdoulaye Cisse, chief of operations of the Malian army, said.

La Belle France helped Malian forces stave off a jihadist insurgency that took control of large parts of the north in 2012, but large swathes of the country remain out of the government's control.

The former colonial ruler has deployed the 4,500-member Barkhane force in the region to repel attacks and stem insurgency.

Al-Shabaab Ambushes Ethiopian Military Convoy In Somalia
[RADIOSHABELLE] More details are emerging from a heavy fighting took place in the past 24 hours in parts of Bakool region in southern Somalia.

The battle which was intense has broken out between al-Shabaab
... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia...
Lions of Islam and Æthiopian forces serving with African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
mission in Somalia [AMISOM].

The fighting erupted when Al-Shabaab fighters launched an ambush attack on a convoy of Æthiopian forces in the vicinity of Wajid district in the region.

Al-Shabaab claimed victory over the attack, saying its fighters inflicted casualties on the Æthiopia troops but did not confirm the number of the fatalities.

There is no word from Æthiopia and government officials about the fighting and the attack.

The situation is calm this morning, however, the government and Æthiopian troops were reported to be making movements around the town of Wajid following the attack.

Fears of growing far-right in Australia amid 'Deplorables' tour
[Al Jazeera] "Tommy Robinson's real name is Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon. He changed it to hide the fact he is a life-long Nazi," said an activist addressing a rally outside Australia's Department of Home Affairs in Melbourne in late November.

"He was a member of the fascist
...anybody not a leftist...
British National Party in the 2000s and a march of 15,000 people organised while he was in jail in June this year saw marchers giving the Nazi salute in his honour."

For months, anti-racism campaigners in Australia have called for the denial of visas to Robinson and Gavin McInnes, both prominent figures in the global far-right movement. McInnes was a co-founder of Vice magazine before leaving the organization in 2008 and founding the Proud Boys, who describe themselves as "a pro-Western fraternal organization for men who refuse to apologise for creating the modern world; aka Western Chauvinists".

McInnes and the Proud Boys were banned from Twitter this August and after the Guardian revealed the FBI had listed the organization as "an myrmidon hate group with ties to white nationalism", while the Southern Poverty Law Centreclassifies it as a hate group.

#3  The Washington Post: "The FBI says the Proud Boys are not an extremist group after all"
Eli Rosenberg, December 7, 2018

A high-ranking FBI agent told reporters that the Western-chauvinist group Proud Boys, which has made headlines for its part in violent clashes in Portland, Ore., and New York, is not considered an extremist group, contradicting a report from a Washington state sheriff’s office that circulated in November.
According to the Oregonian, Special Agent in Charge Renn Cannon said during a discussion with Portland-area journalists that the FBI had not intended to designate the group as extremist during a slide show with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Venezuela-Russia wargames an 'alert' for region: Colombia
[PULSE.NG] Venezuela's joint military exercises with Russia should put the entire South American continent on alert against an "unfriendly act", Colombia's President Ivan Duque warned Wednesday.

Duque accused Venezuela of using the arrival of two Russian long-range bombers in Caracas as "provocative tools".

"The continent has to be alert," Duque told Colombia's RCN Television.

"This is not only an unfriendly act against Colombia, but an unfriendly act....against a region where there is something called the treaty of Reciprocal Assistance where, if there is any aggression, all countries should protect the country attacked," Duque said.

Two Russian long-range strategic bombers landed in Venezuela on Monday for what Caracas said were air force exercises aimed at strengthening the defence of the leftist-ruled South American country.

Bogota, which has emphatically denied socialist President Nicolas Maduro's claims that it is seeking his overthrow, said on Tuesday that it will continue to act with "prudence" during the wargames.

Colombia "does not allow itself to be intimidated, but neither does it allow itself to be provoked, nor does it go out to provoke our neighbors, any of our neighbors," said Defence Minister Guillermo Botero.

The two countries share a 2,200 kilometer (1,370-mile) border, but relations have been strained in recent years, with Duque and his predecessor Juan Manuel Santos branding Maduro a dictator.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Israel and Hezbollah: The borderline of war
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The drums of war are beating between Hezbollah and Israel. All of a sudden, Israel has announced military operations on its northern borders. The operation called ’Northern Shield’ has led to escalation on both sides amidst anticipation of new surprises in the coming weeks.

The imminent end of the Syrian conflict has placed Israel in a difficult situation as Iranian forces and Hezbollah are now deployed in provinces close to Israeli borders. When Operation Northern Shield started on 6th of December 2018 to destroy Hezbollah’s underground tunnels, the decision to kick off such an operation was deemed hazardous by some experts.

Such an operation will not stop over the issue of underground tunnels as Israel would seek to destroy the military infrastructure of Hezbollah to prevent its members from targeting Israel. All political and military indicators confirm that what is happening near the Lebanese-Israeli border is only a prelude to a fierce war.

After two-month manhunt IDF finds and kills terrorist who killed two in Barkan
[israelTimes] Ashraf Na’alowa bound and executed Kim Levengrond Yehezkel before shooting Ziv Hajbi at a factory where all three worked in the Barkan Industrial Zone in the West Bank

After a two-month manhunt, Israeli forces found and killed a Paleostinian man suspected of carrying out a brutal terror attack in which he rubbed out two Israeli coworkers in a West Bank factory, the army said early Thursday.

On October 7, Ashraf Na’alowa, 23, allegedly killed his coworkers Kim Levengrond Yehezkel and Ziv Hajbi at a factory where all three worked in the Barkan Industrial Zone. Another Israeli woman was also injured in the attack.

Na’alowa, from the West Bank village of Shuweika near Tulkarem, remained on the run for over two months, repeatedly eluding capture by Israel security forces. In the interim, a number of his relatives and alleged accomplices have been detained and indicted as part of the manhunt.

Early Thursday morning, Israeli forces tried to arrest him in a joint operation between the IDF, the Shin Bet security services and the Israel police. He was killed during the operation, the army said, adding that he was armed.

The army gave no further details on the location of the raid, saying only that he was found following a wide-ranging intelligence effort.

During the searches for Na’alowa several of his relatives were placed in durance vile
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
and charged on Thursday with failing to prevent his crime.

His father, Walid Suleiman Na’alowa, was charged in a West Bank military court with both failing to prevent the attack and interfering with the investigation.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, Na’alowa’s father knew that his son intended to commit a terror attack and that he’d been training with a gun in the weeks prior to the killings.

Na’alowa’s mother, Wafaa Na’alowa, and brother, Amjad Na’alowa, were indicted last month on similar charges.

His father Walid was also charged with interfering in the search by trying to hide Na’alowa’s car.

Following the attack, the IDF swiftly issued a demolition order for Na’alowa’s home, in keeping with the Israeli policy of razing homes of convicted Paleostinian terrorists.

The High Court of Justice issued a temporary injunction last month preventing the demolition following an appeal from Na’alowa’s family.

In most cases, demolition orders are issued after a suspect has confessed, or has been convicted in court. However in Na’alowa’s case, the IDF decided to go ahead with the punitive measure because the Shin Bet security service has significant incriminating evidence against him, the Ynet news site reported.

A notice distributed by IDF Central Command, Maj. Gen. Nadav Padan said the basement and ground floors of Na’alowa’s home, where the suspected assailant lived, would be destroyed.

The military has launched an investigation of the Barkan attack to determine, among other things, how the gun was smuggled into the industrial park and whether the terrorist had intended to take Levengrond Yehezkel hostage, having used zip-ties to bind her hands before shooting her.

Levengrond was a secretary, while Hajbi worked in accounting at the Alon Group’s factory in the industrial park. Na’alowa was employed there as an electrician.

Egypt to renovate its Jewish heritage sites
[Ynet] Sisi earmarks $71 million as Cairo marks Hanukkah with unprecedented joint event for Jews, Moslems and Christians.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will allocate $71 million to renovate Jewish heritage sites and synagogues in Egypt, Minister of Archeology Khaled al-Anani revealed, as the country marked the festival of Hanukkah with an interfaith gathering.

The Egyptian government has some 500 items collected from synagogues, which will be presented to the general public. Cairo has 13 synagogues, but only three of them are active: the Shaarei Shamayim Synagogue, the Ben Ezra Synagogue in the Abbassia neighborhood and the synagogue of the Karaite
...a sect of Judaism that cleaves to the written law, the Old Testament only, unlike rabbinic Judaism giving no weight to the so-called Oral Law of the Talmud. Since the Egyptian expulsion following the establishment of Israel, the largest community lives in Israel...
community. al-Anani said that some of the synagogues would cease to serve as houses of worship and would instead become tourist sites open to the general public.

"There is significance in rehabilitating Jewish synagogues, similar to renovating pharaonic, Islamic and Coptic heritage sites," the minister said. But he added: "It should be remembered that the Jewish articles and the synagogues belong to the Egyptian government."
“So you Jewish exiles can just stop trying to regain your community treasures.”
Sisi stressed that there would be no "foreign involvement" in the renovation process - an indirect referense to attempts by Jewish organizations abroad to intervene in and finance the renovation work. He said that all the work would be carried out by Egyptians only, using Egyptian government funds.

"Most of the synagogues are currently in very poor condition and must be renovated in order to turn them into visitors' centers," explained al-Anani, during a special presentation at the Egyptian parliament. He also said that an anti-smuggling authority operating in the UAE city of Sharjah located hundreds of items from Egyptian synagogues that were destined for Europe.
Ah. I wondered what this was about: tourist fodder.
According to al-Anani, Jewish, Islamic and pharaonic artifacts were also smuggled into Italia, "and we are negotiating with the Italian government for their return."

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth had turned a paler shade of blue. Star-A-Star had struck again...
Cairo for the first time celebrated Hanukkah with a joint event for Jews, Moslems and Christians. The head of the Egyptian Jewish community, Magda Haroun, invited dozens of non-Jewish guests to the Shaarei Shamayim synagogue on the outskirts of Cairo for a ceremony at which she explained the meaning of the holiday.
“See? We loves us those benighted but picturesque natives. Even if we no intention of allowing their expelled cousins move back.”
Fewer than a dozen Jews, most of them elderly, remain of what was once a large Egyptian Jewish community.
That’s what eventually happens when the law says all Jewish males must leave at the age of eighteen.

Europe
Yellow Vest protesters blame the Jews
[Ynet] It did not take long before the violent economic protests racking La Belle France turned anti-Semitic, blaming Jews for their woes and controlling the government; Synagogues shuttered for first time; Spike in emigration inquiries.

French Jews have become a focal point for the "yellow vest" protests plaguing La Belle France with an increase in anti-Semitism by demonstrators. In recent days, the Jewish community has reported numerous anti-Semitic videos, graffiti and actual threats.

Last Saturday, the Chabad House on the Champs-Elysées Boulevard temporarily closed its doors for the first time due to safety concerns. The Chabad House issued a message saying that "for the first time, the Chabad House will not open on Shabbat morning; the police do not have the situation under control and today is a very dangerous day."

At another synagogue in the city, emails were sent to members of the community before Shabbat, warning of the riots. "In the Eli Dray synagogue they recommended us not to conduct services in the morning," said Tova and Yehoshua Nagler who were staying in the city for Shabbat. "The caretaker announced that anyone who nevertheless wants to go will only be able to enter until nine in the morning, and take into account that the synagogue will remain closed until evening because the gates will be closed from inside, so they asked people who come to pray to bring food along."

"THE JEWS ARE PULLING THE STRINGS"
On Route A6, the main artery between Gay Paree and Marseilles, a huge banner was hung on a bridge: "Macron is a whore of the Jews." Social networks have also become an arena for spreading anti-Semitic expression. Thus, for example, a message circulated by an anonymous source wearing a mask: "It was the rich Jews who brought Macron to power so that he would be their puppet and they are pulling the strings. The Jews are responsible for the lowering of taxes on the rich and for the whole financial situation."

In another video, an activist from the "Yellow Vests" invited demonstrators to come to a Chabad Hanukah candle lighting, saying: "The Jewish people celebrate while the French have nothing to eat." The anti-Semitic French entertainer Dieudonné M'bala M'bala and his admirers joined the demonstrators and gave the Nazi salute.

A video circulated on the social networks of French musician Stephen Ballet, who lives in Istanbul, inciting protesters to "understand that the real enemy is the Jews," as he puts it. Ballet, an esteemed musician with a racist reputation, uploaded last week a YouTube video which garnered 36,000 views before it was blocked. In the video Ballet claims that lighting Hanukah candles in front of the Eiffel Tower "while the French are dying of hunger" is a deliberate provocation by the Jews against the French people. He also expressed regret that he could not come and "say hello" to the Jews who lit the candles.

Glenn Beck Pays off $27,000 Worth of Layaway Balances at Texas Walmart
[PJ] Glenn Beck, conservative commentator and founder of TheBlaze, walked into a Texas Walmart on Saturday and in the spirit of the Christmas holidays paid off $27,000 worth of layaway balances.

Beck, who was at the store with his children and wife Tania, live-streamed their trip to the North Richland Hills Walmart to pay off customers' layaway balances that were set to come due on Monday.

"We were really inspired by [actor] Tyler Perry and what he did at the Walmart in Atlanta," Beck said in the video, "so we're going to buy everything in layaway as well for everybody who has put anything in layaway."

Perry paid off $434,000 in layaway balances for 1,500 shoppers at an Atlanta Walmart on December 6. That act of generosity led singer Kid Rock to do the same at a Nashville Walmart, where he paid off $81,000 in balances.

In the video, Beck challenged Bill O'Reilly, Steven Crowder, Ben Shapiro, Mark Levin, and others to follow Perry's lead.

Arabia
King Salman addresses Islamic scholars on need to counter negative image
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques , Saudi King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Lord of Most of the Arabians....
bin Abdulaziz, asserted that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, which was established on values of moderation and temperance will continue its commitments and initiatives that aim to achieve the hopes of Moslems worldwide.

The statement was made during a speech delivered on behalf of King Salman by Prince Khalid Al Faisal, the King’s adviser, at the opening of the International Islamic Unity Conference which is organized by the Moslem World League in Mecca.

The conference was titled "Islamic unity - the risks of classification and exclusion."

Prince Khalid Al Faisal welcomed the participants to the conference and conveyed to them greetings of King Salman.

King Salman’s statement was as follows:

I highly appreciate the presence of these elite scholars of the nation to this conference, out of their duty in healing the gap threatening their nation, to reject disputes, to unite, and to agree on one notion to direct at the world.

We have hope in this enlightening knowledge, to omit the nation’s stumbles and achieve unity, which is not directed against anyone, but rather it seeks solidarity for the good of humanity.

NECESSITY OF OVERCOMING NEGATIVE IMAGES
A quick look at our current reality, is enough to make us realize the necessity of overcoming the negative images that burdened our present and historical accumulations and its impact on the Islamic nation path. Thus we are invited to spread awareness, correct the wrong concepts and understand the different concept by creating links of discussions and cooperation towards harmony and hard work.

Look to the future with a promising perspective filled with a spirit of brotherhood and solidarity.

The International Islamic Unity Conferencemade a good choice by selecting "Islamic unity - the risks of classification and exclusion", as a title for this conference and made "promoting the concepts of national state and its common values" one of its pillars as an attempt to consolidate the word of the nation’s scholars, and thinkers.

The centrality of Islam and moderation, which spread on the basis of its civilization, to cover about two-thirds of the world.

ADDRESS OBSTACLES THAT HINDER UNITY
Our whole Islamic world looks forward today for this gathering and hopes that your distinguished conference will address the obstacles that hinder establishing its ultimate unity and promotes its separation that God had warned us from.

Undoubtedly, you are gathered today for a difficult mission, considering that it addresses many accumulations and hostilities more than the haters of the Islamic Nation who drive a fierce campaign against their religion, morals, culture and civilization.

They attribute to Islam what is not, taking advantage of the bully boyz in both direction.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
with your strong will and firm knowledge, you are able to achieve this International Islamic Unity, the dream of your nation throughout the globe, so that the nation would continue its historical role as a role model for the whole world.

Saudi Arabia, which was established on moderation and tolerence, which oversees the service of the two holy mosques and the guests of Rahman will continue its obligations and initiatives to achieve the hopes of Moslems.

I ask God almighty, to grant you success and fulfillment in your noble mission, and to help us all for what He loves and pleases.

Fears grow over app to police minorities
[JakartaPost] The launch of a mobile application that allows members of the public to report beliefs they consider to be misguided or heretical has sparked fears that it could lead to increased persecution of minority groups in the country.

The app, called Smart Pakem (monitoring religious beliefs), was launched by the Jakarta Prosecutors Office (Kejati) and includes features such as a list of forbidden beliefs and banned mass organizations, a directory of fatwas issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and a form to report complaints or information about religious beliefs or sects.

"If there are reports from the public, we can immediately act on them. Before, people needed to write a letter, which was troublesome. Through this application, we will immediately know where the reports come from," Kejati Jakarta assistant for intelligence matters Yulianto said at the app’s launch on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) commissioner Choirul Anam said the app could potentially lead to the violation of religious freedom.

"[The app] can result in persecution, violence and criminalization," he told The Jakarta Post on Sunday. "It is contradictory to the government’s desire to create a culture of mutual respect and tolerance, which is why I have asked the government and the attorney general to take it down."

Setara Institute researcher Halili Hasan echoed Choirul’s sentiments, saying the app further marginalized followers of minority religious beliefs, especially those who adhered to new or indigenous faiths.

"It is not up to the public to decide whether a belief is misguided or not," he told the Post. "The app just serves to widen divisions in communities and legitimizes people who believe it’s okay to persecute groups that are outside of the mainstream."

Indonesia has been widely criticized for its failure to protect its minorities, particularly followers of the smaller Islamic denominations considered heretical, such as Ahmadiyah and hundreds of indigenous faiths.

"The launch of the application will make the public more distrustful of one another, increase the potential for horizontal conflict and damage the dialogue about differing religious beliefs that has already started in the community," Ahmadiyah Indonesia Congregation (JAI) spokesperson Yendra Budiana said.

Attorney General’s Office (AGO) spokesperson Mukri acknowledged that some might find fault with the app but said it was intended to help educate and inform the public about heretical and banned groups.

"You have to understand the philosophy behind the creation of this app. It is meant to educate the public and it is within the AGO’s authority.

"We want to create an inventory to make it easier for the public to check whether a group is banned or not," Mukri said.

"Also, if someone reports a group through the app, it doesn’t mean that it will be destroyed immediately. It just helps the AGO to investigate further."

As of Monday morning, the app is still available on the Google Play Store.

A 2004 law gives the AGO the authority to "conduct oversight over religious beliefs that can endanger the community and the country".

A 2015 regulation further specifies that the AGO can form central, provincial and municipal Pakem teams that are authorized to analyze reports about indigenous faiths and other religious beliefs as well as judge the impact that those faiths have on public order and peace.

In recent months, Pakem teams have been formed in Enrekang, South Sulawesi, Brebes, East Java, and Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, among other places.

Choirul said the AGO’s role in overseeing religious beliefs should be abolished.

"If the AGO wants to create a peaceful climate, it should not criminalize differences in beliefs and respect the right to be different," he added.

Halili agreed, saying judging a religious belief or sect was outside the government’s domain.

"What is so wrong about people seeking spirituality in their own way? Pakem teams result in majoritarianism, where the many decide on what is good for the few," he said.

Mukri said he respected the right of people to criticize the teams, adding that they remained within the AGO’s authority. "We are only applying the authority that is given to us by the law."

India-Pakistan
Indian voters boot out cow, happiness ministers in state elections
[PULSE.NG] India's only dedicated "cow minister" has been dumped in state elections, ending a controversial tenure that saw hundreds of the sacred animals starve to death and poisoned on his watch.

Otaram Dewasi, the first head of Rajasthan's cow ministry, was turfed out Tuesday when the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was thumped in the western desert state and two other key regional polls.

He was not the only noteworthy casualty from India's ruling party, with the country's only "happiness minister" -- who stands accused of murder -- also tossed aside by voters in central Madhya Pradesh state.

Dewasi, the cow minister who in office wore the red turban and white sarong of a desert herdsman, lost by 10,000 votes to an independent candidate.

Hindus consider cows sacred and the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has campaigned for their protection at state and national levels, and introduced harsh penalties for mistreating them.

But the cause has spawned cow vigilantism in parts of India, with people accused of carrying beef or slaughtering the animals -- especially Moslems and low-caste Hindus, who consume beef -- murdered by mobs.

Rajasthan, bordering Pakistain, has witnessed some of the most high-profile cow lynchings in recent times, including the brazen beating to death of a Moslem dairy farmer on a busy highway last year.

The state created India's first ministry exclusively for cow protection in 2015 when the BJP won elections and appointed Dewasi, a policeman turned politician, to be in charge.

He imposed a 20 percent surcharge on new property purchases -- dubbed a "cow tax" -- to generate cash to run the 2,300 shelters in his state for abandoned cows. He also branded hundreds of thousands of cows under his care to stop them being smuggled.

But his reputation was marred in 2016 when 500 cows starved to death at a state-run shelter when the facility was flooded during heavy rains.

In August, 28 more died from poisoning, further denting his image as a sacred custodian in a state where cow slaughter comes with 10 years jail.

The BJP campaigned for the Rajasthan elections on tougher laws for cow slaughter and more money for shelters -- but was defeated by the Congress Party in results announced Tuesday.

Daesh goes crazy with suicide attacks as they struggle to hold east Syria stronghold
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) is doing everything they can to hold onto their last Euphrates stronghold, Hajin, which is currently under heavy attack by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
"Here, you mens! Go blow yerselves up to stop the infidel attacks!"
"Right, chief! Let's go, boyz!... Boyz?"

With intense festivities taking place within close quarters, ISIS has begun using jacket wallahs to inflict heavy losses in the ranks of the SDF.

On Wednesday alone, ISIS conducted at least a half dozen suicide kabooms, with reportedly hitting the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces inside Hajin.

While ISIS claims many SDF fighters were killed, the corpse count still remains unknown at this time.

These large-scale suicide attacks have been used by ISIS in several previous battles against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), SDF, and Iraqi Armed Forces.

The terrorist attacks often forestall the enemy forces, which, in ISIS’s case, is incredibly important because the Ottoman Turkish military is preparing to invade northern Syria.

Should The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
begin their assault before Hajin is captured, ISIS will likely survive this battle because the SDF will have to redeploy forces to northern Syria.

German exports to Iran soar ahead of US sanctions
[Ynet] German exports to Iran soared in October, a month before the United States re-instated sanctions on the Islamic Theocratic Republic to choke its oil and shipping industries, data seen by Rooters showed on Tuesday.

The surge signals willingness among Germany's small to medium-sized firms, or Mittelstand, to continue doing business with Iran despite the risk of being blacklisted by the United States for defying its sanctions.

Police arrest four Jewish teens for ‘price tag’ attack in northern Israel
[IsraelTimes] Suspects, all around 15 years old, allegedly punctured tires and spray-painted slogans on 20 cars in the village of Yafia, near Nazareth, in October.

Mosques, churches, dovish Israeli groups and even Israeli military bases have been targeted by such nationalist vandals in recent years.

Police said Wednesday that the youths were tossed in the clink
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
at a yeshiva, or Jewish religious seminary, in the north of the country, but would not say which one.

Following the October incident, the Yafia Local Council released a statement condemning the crime and "calling on all reasonable people in Jewish society to raise their voices against these heinous acts. The fascism
...a political system developed in Italy, symbolized by the Roman fasces -- thin reeds, each flimsy in itself but unbreakable when bound into a bundle. Its distinguishing philosophical feature is the Corporate State. The word is nowadays thrown around by all sorts of people who have no idea what they're talking about...
that starts with [attacks on] Arabs will continue until [attacks on] the reasonable members of Jewish society. Enough with racism!"

Also in October, police launched an investigation into an apparent hate crime at a Christian cemetery belonging to the Beit Jamal Monastery in Beit Shemesh, where some 30 cross headstones were found vandalized. Monks who visit the graveyard every few days discovered the damage and reported the incident to Israeli authorities. It was the latest in a series of attacks against the monastery by suspected Jewish bandidos bully boyz over the past two years.

Hamas claims deadly Ofra terror attack after Israel kills suspected shooter
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", says Salih Barghouti carried out the shooting attack and hails him as a ’heroic martyr’; he shot a pregnant woman resulting in the death of her baby

The Hamas terror group early Thursday claimed credit for the deadly shooting attack outside the Ofra settlement earlier this week, saying the suspect rubbed out by Israeli forces several hours earlier was one of its members.

"Hamas announces with great pride the death of its martyr Salih Omar Barghouti, the perpetrator of the heroic Ofra operation," the terror group wrote on its official Twitter account early Thursday morning.

While Hamas claimed Barghouti, it did not specifically say that it orchestrated the attack.

Seven people were maimed in the drive-by shooting attack on a bus stop outside of Ofra on Sunday night, including a 30-weeks pregnant woman who was maimed. The baby was delivered in an emergency operation, but died earlier Wednesday.

Barghouti, 29 and a resident of Kobar, a village near Ramallah, was killed Wednesday evening after he tried to attack troops while escaping arrest and was shot, the Shin Bet security agency said, adding that he was believed to have carried out the Ofra terror attack.

Four other people suspected of being involved in the attack were tossed in the clink
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
, the Shin Bet also said.

Paleostinian news outlets said Barghouti was killed when troops opened fire on a taxi he was traveling in on a road in the town of Surda, a village also near Ramallah.

For the past three days, soldiers have been carrying out intensive searches for suspects involved in the terror attack.

The announcement of Barghouti’s death and the arrests took place shortly after the funeral for the newborn, and after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed the army would catch those involved in the attack.

Late Wednesday, troops also raided a home in Kobar belonging to Barghouti’s family and surrounded a building in Ramallah, according to Paleostinian reports.

Clashes subsequently broke out between the troops and young Paleostinians near the home in Kobar, according to the official PA news site Wafa.

During the festivities, two Paleostinians were maimed by live fire, Wafa reported.

Pictures shared on social media appeared to show an IDF vehicle towing a white car that seemed to match a vehicle seen on security video of the terror attack, from which the shots were fired at the bus station in Ofra.

In security video showing the terror attack, a white car can be seen opening fire as it passes by the bus stop. A taxi traveling alongside the white car was suspected of being involved in the shooting as well.

Barghouti worked for the Rafideen taxi company, an employee at the company told The Times of Israel. The company is based in Ramallah. He had worked the past three days, according to the employee, who asked to remain unnamed.

Jihad forces cannot be tamed or appeased
[Ynet] It is bewildering that some believe Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, can be appeased despite Hezbollah proving that Jihad forces need no excuse for their propagation of destruction; Hezbollah is also world's largest crime organization but Obama chose a conciliatory policy ignoring their drug smuggling, money laundering.

If Israel only eliminated the blockade of the Gazoo Strip, there will be neither rockets nor tunnels. The Strip will flourish. There will be no confrontations. This argument, which is prevalent in certain circles, in the world and in Israel, should be examined against the backdrop of Operation Northern Shield.

Well, Israel is not imposing any blockade on Leb, which is controlled by Hezbollah. There is no historical conflict with the Lebanese people. Leb has even been the focal point of tourism in the Arab world for many years; great beaches, restaurants, and a dazzling nightlife ‐ a paradise.

But Leb has an Iranian element: Hezbollah. And they are building a network of missiles and tunnels, just like in the south, in the context of their profound hatred for the West, including Israel and the Jews.

Turning to Hamas for a moment, we must ask: Will the Gazoo Strip begin to flourish once the blockade is lifted? Will Hamas change its skin?

Hezbollah provides us with the answer. It is not about the blockade or a particular conflict, nor is it a border dispute. It is the abhorrent hatred that permeates the Jihad organizations, Sunni and Shiite alike.
Additional Videos

After all, this happens wherever Jihad advocates gain power or take over, even in countries, and in fact, especially in countries where there is no significant presence of Americans, Jews, or Europeans. After all, Hezbollah can allow Leb to thrive and prosper. But it prefers to invest all its resources in the death industry.

The confrontation will come. And even assuming that Israel will be hit and suffer, and it will be hit, Leb will return to the Middle Ages. And despite the obvious outcome, Hezbollah continues.

It is not clear why anyone thinks that Hamas is any different from Hezbollah. That does not mean that Hamas should not be offered a generous deal on the basis of "rehabilitation in return for demilitarization." But all we have to do is look at Hezbollah, in order to know that Hamas' response is obvious.

NARCOSRALLA
Hezbollah is not only an international terrorist organization, it is also an international criminal organization. Much of the organization's income comes from cocaine trade. President Obama, upon his election, adopted a conciliatory policy and declared intention to engage in dialogue and integrate Hezbollah into Lebanese politics.

In 2008, five years before he was appointed head of the CIA, John Brennan wrote a position paper that outlines the new appeasement policy toward Iran and Hezbollah. "The president must implement a policy of integration that encourages the moderates," he wrote.

It is possible that appeasement can work. But as far as Iran and Hezbollah are concerned, their appetite is only growing. Instead of restraint, Iran stuck its long arms throughout the Middle East, to Yemen, Syria, and total control over Leb through Hezbollah.

And furthermore, the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) exposed the huge drug trafficking and money laundering network of Hezbollah as part of Operation Cassandra. Hezbollah, in conjunction with Latin American narco mobs, committed crimes on American soil. But the US administration decided that appeasement is more important than combating crime and terrorism, and instructed its agencies to turn a blind eye so as not to irritate the monster and not distract from signing the nuclear agreement with Iran.

John Kelly, the man who headed the Cassandra operation, claims that "Hezbollah is one of the largest transnational crime organizations in the world." But gradually it became clear to him and the FBI agents dealing with issues related to Iran that their work was for naught. The matter was revealed last year in a detailed, worldwide report by Politico magazine, which apparently gave immunity to the monster. The Obama doctrine apparently gave immunity to the monster.

Tunisia arrests two Bosnians in 2016 killing of Hamas drone expert
Bosnians? He probably trifled with someone’s sister... or looked at her too long.
[IsraelTimes] Gazoo-based terror group has blamed Israel’s Mossad for the liquidation of Mohammed al-Zoari, one of its top scientists

Tunisia announced on Tuesday that it locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
two suspects over the 2016 liquidation of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", drone expert Mohammed al-Zoari.

It identified the two men as Bosnian nationals Albert Sarak and Alain Kamedi, the Walla news site reported.

The December 15, 2016, liquidation of al-Zoari was widely blamed on Israel’s Mossad, including by the Hamas terror group, which acknowledged after the killing that Zoari was a central figure in its weapons development apparatus and called him a pioneer in developing its unmanned drones.

Tunisia’s Interior Ministry said this week the two suspects entered Tunisia via a sea port on December 8, 2016, a week before the killing. The men allegedly claimed to be representatives of tour companies, and toured the Djerba area and the south of the country.

Officials allege that the two planned the killing for 18 months, and had used Tunisian citizens in the operation.

The latest claims follow Tunisian authorities’ announcement in May that they had arrested a suspect in the liquidation, whom Arab media outlets say was nabbed in Croatia on March 13.

It’s not clear what the latest announcement means for the claim, voiced by numerous Arab outlets, that Israel was behind the killing. There was no immediate report of a connection between the Bosnian suspects and Israeli espionage bodies.

Shortly after the liquidation, a senior Hamas official, Mushir al-Masri, told a Tunisian radio station that "the Zionist enemy" was the only party likely to benefit from the liquidation of Zoari, and that Mossad had a long history of killing experts with capability to develop military technology, especially those related to developing UAVs.

Israel does not want such capabilities to reach Paleostinian organizations in Gazoo, Masri said.

Hamas has also blamed Israel for the killing of its rocket scientist Fadi al-Batsh, 35, in Malaysia in April.

Zoari, an aviation scientist and engineer with longstanding links to Hamas, was rubbed out at point-blank range on December 15, 2016, in the Tunisian city of Sfax.

Zoari was said to have helped Hamas develop unmanned drones.

He was shot multiple times ‐ some reports said as many as 20 bullets were fired at him ‐ while sitting in his car near his home.

A senior Tunisian journalist said at the time that the Mossad had been tracking Zoari for quite some time, and was responsible for his liquidation.

Israel’s Channel 2 news said Zoari was reported to have received death threats because of his Paleostinian terror links. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
Channel 2 also quoted Tunisian security officials as saying that the investigation of the death did not immediately suggest an liquidation by a foreign intelligence agency.

There was no official Israeli response to the reports.
Al Jazeera’s take ignores non-Mossad possibilities:
On December 15, 2016, a 49-year-old Tunisian man was rubbed out outside his home in Sfax, 270 kilometres south-east of Tunis.

Mohammed al-Zawari had been known locally as an aviation engineer interested in drone technology, but in fact, he had led a double life, heading a drone development project for the military wing of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, the Qassam Brigades.

According to Al Jazeera Arabic's investigation by Tamer Almisshal, several parties were involved in a coordinated plot against al-Zawari, who up until his death was called 'Mourad' by many of those who knew him, including his wife.

Almisshal believes it has all the hallmarks of an extrajudicial killing by Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, but these cases are notoriously difficult to prove and must for the moment remain speculation.

Al-Zawari first left Tunisia in 1991 as a dissident against the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. He managed to travel using a fake passport and worked in a military manufacturing installation in Sudan. He only returned home after the 2011 revolution that forced Ben Ali out of the country.

Shortly after his death, Hamas announced that the drone expert had worked for the Qassam Brigades for a decade. They credited him with developing the Ababeel drones used against Israel in Gazoo in the summer of 2014.

"By the 2008 Israeli aggression against Gazoo, the team had manufactured 30 drones in an Iranian military factory," according to a Qassam Brigades member going by the name of 'Abu Mohammed'. Another Brigades member, Abu Mujahid, says drones were important to them because "we can conduct it with precision against military targets and avoid civilians."

As well as building drones, al-Zawari did innovative research into remote-controlled submarines, as potential combat devices for the Qassam Brigades.

Israeli journalist Moav Vardi went to Tunisia to investigate the Zawari case. "It's not a criminal liquidation by a gang, or a neighbour's quarrel," he says. "From what it seems, Israel has the interest and the ability to carry out such an operation."

There have been other alleged Mossad liquidations outside Israeli territory. For instance, Israel admitted responsibility for the 1988 killing of a senior Paleostinian commander Abu Jihad, whose real name was Khalil al-Wazir, at his home in Tunis, Tunisia. Wazir was a friend and deputy to then Paleostinian chief Yasser Arafat, who headed the Paleostine Liberation Organisation (PLO).

Mossad is also alleged to have been behind the 2010 murder of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in a Dubai hotel. He was the Hamas logistics commander for the Qassam Brigades; and of the Black September founder Ali Hassan Salameh, or The Red Prince, using a car loaded with heavy explosives in Beirut in 1979.

In March 2018, two men were jugged
Please don't kill me!
in connection with Zawari's murder, Croatian Alen Camdzic and Bosnian Elvir Sarac. In May, Croatia's highest court blocked Camdzic's extradition to Tunisia and Sarac was released after a Bosnian court refused to hand him over to Tunisia, saying there was no extradition deal between the countries.

Until the Tunisian authorities manage to extradite the two men, the case of the murder of Mohammed al-Zawari cannot begin to be resolved - whoever was behind it.

Syrian Army uncovers 7 mass graves with hundreds of bodies in Deir Ezzor
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered seven mass graves in the Deir Ezzor countryside on Tuesday, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.

According to the report, the Syrian military found the seven mass graves near the large city of Albukamal in southeast Deir Ezzor.

The mass graves contained the remains of hundreds of unidentified people that were likely killed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS).

A SANA news hound said that the Syrian military found the mass graves while conducting a combing operation outside Albukamal city.

The news hound added that teams from the local civil defense and Syrian Arab Red Islamic Thingy had recovered 101 bodies already, many of which appear to have been tortured and abused before being killed, clarifying that work is underway to retrieve more bodies.
Rudaw adds:
The majority of the bodies they exhumed had their “hands tied” and “bullet wounds to the head,” he added.

The people, as yet unidentified, were believed killed by ISIS when the militant group controlled the area.

The city al-Boukamal exchanged hands several times before the Syrian army and their allies finally took control in November 2017. It is the last major urban centre in the Euphrates River valley before the border with Iraq.

"The proposal will create legal and institutional problems and will not be enforceable, but will create additional difficulties on this authority’s credibility," said Marwan Dammaj, Yemen’s minister of culture and member of the legitimate government’s delegation.

Dammaj added that the government is committed to the withdrawal of Houthi militias from the city, and proposes to re-position the armed forces in the city’s camps, and for security entities under the ministry of interior to manage the security of the city.

Negotiations are still ongoing in Rimbo, Sweden, on all outstanding issues, including Hodeidah, Taiz, Sanaa Airport, the economic situation and the negotiating framework.

The consultations continue to be surrounded by a belt of international diplomatic pressure as Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to join the delegations in Sweden this evening to push parties to achieve concrete results in the last remaining hours on Thursday.

"It is important that the two sides agree on points that both can implement and make no promises that are difficult for them to meet," a Western diplomat told Al Arabiya English.

"The two sides must abide by the rules of mutual respect and try to avoid rhetoric of escalation and threats," the diplomat, an ambassador involved in the negotiations in Sweden, said.

Pakistan rejects 'politically motivated' listing as violator of religious freedoms by US
[DAWN] As Washington announced that Islamabad had been added to a list of violators of religious freedoms, Pakistain on Wednesday rejected the "unilateral and politically motivated pronouncement", and suggested the US introspect over the "exponential rise" of Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
and anti-Semitism in America.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had on Tuesday said that Pakistain was joining Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...

Besides the clear biases reflected from these designations, there are serious questions over the credentials and impartiality of the self-proclaimed jury involved in this unwarranted exercise."

The FO explained measures that the government had taken to safeguard the rights of its citizens, including the use of legal and administrative mechanisms, adding that Islamabad submits compliance reports on its obligations with respect to fundamental freedoms as a party to seven of nine core human rights

Day 3: Strasbourg Terror Suspect Yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ During Attack, Has 27 Prior Criminal Convictions
Day 2 report can be seen here.
[Breitbart] Strasbourg terror suspect Cherif C. is still on the run from police but new information has revealed that he has 27 prior criminal convictions and yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the attack which led to the death of two people, the brain death of another, and several injuries.

The new information was revealed Wednesday at a press conference by France’s anti-terror prosecutor Rémy Heitz who said that witnesses had observed the suspect yelling “Allahu Akbar” as he fired upon the crowd at the Strasbourg Christmas market on Tuesday evening, France24 reports.

According to French broadcaster BFMTV, the 29-year-old suspect, who was born in Strasbourg, has had a total of 27 prior criminal convictions including convictions for violent robbery, the earliest occurring when the suspect was only 10 years old.

Investigators have also said that the crimes did not occur in just France, noting he had also committed crimes in both Germany and Switzerland as well.

Hours before the attack, the suspect’s house had been raided by police who found a hand grenade, a shotgun, and other weapons. Investigators now say that the 29-year-old had been a suspect in a prior attempted murder and that is what sparked the initial raid.

On Wednesday police arrested four men believed to be connected to Cherif C. and revealed that the terror suspect had used a taxi to flee the scene and had even bragged to the taxi driver that he had killed at least ten people.

Wikipedia has opened a page on Chérif Chekatt‘s ten-minute attack here.
The Telegraph adds:
German authorities were on alert for the fugitive along the Rhine river bordering France and Germany, said a spokesman from the Baden-Wuerttemberg region.

Police had tried to detain Cherif on Tuesday morning in connection with an attempted murder inquiry, but he was not at home.

They found a grenade, a rifle and four knives during a search on Tuesday morning of the suspect’s house. Four members of his entourage were being detained for questioning.

These reportedly include his parents and two brothers, one of him, according to Le Parisien, is believed to be a follower of Salafism, an ultra-conservative form of Islam.

He was shot in the arm during an exchange of fire with French soldiers in the city centre and then forced a taxi driver to take him to another part of the city.

Later, he crossed four policemen. They riposted when he opened fire but he managed to flee once again.

At the drab housing estate where he lived in Hohberg on the outskirts of Strasbourg, neighbours were adamant Chekatt was no Islamist but a cornered criminal who had “lost his marbles”.

“For us, he wasn’t radicalised, he was a thug,” a resident called Zak, 22, told the Telegraph.

“He lost the plot because he had botched an armed robbery beforehand. He knew the police were after him. He had a criminal history and knew he was looking at 10 years or so he lost it.”
From the Daily Mail:
Chekatt, a French national from an Algerian background, was originally due to be arrested in connection with an attempted murder in in Eckbolsheim, in north eastern France, in August.

Before the shooting took place, police had gone to his home earlier to arrest him over this suspected crime, but found him missing.

The four people previously reported as being held for questioning was revealed on Wednesday afternoon to be Chekatt's mother, father and two brothers.
From the Guardian, background:
French investigators call them the “gangster-jihadists” – young men, often from poor immigrant backgrounds, who start with petty crime, drug dealing and robbery and graduate to terrorism.

Chekatt was born in Strasbourg in February 1989, into a family with Moroccan roots, and appears to have fallen first into petty crime then gangster circles.

Like many youths growing up on outer-city housing projects in France, home to many of the country’s north African immigrant population, where poverty and unemployment are rife, Chekatt left school early and had a series of low-paid jobs.

Five of his alleged accomplices
...for the previous armed robbery/attempted murder...
were picked up in raids on Tuesday morning, but when police turned up at his apartment in a block at the Les Poteries district of west Strasbourg, Chekatt was not there. Inside, they found a stun grenade, a long rifle with ammunition and four knives, including two hunting knives.

French officials have suggested the prospect of another prison sentence could have sparked the Christmas market attack a few hours later.
Another Guardian article adds:
German federal police also confirmed they were searching for Chekatt and his brother in case they have crossed the border into Germany. At the German-French border in Kehl all cars leaving France are being controlled by the German police, and there are controls at three other border points.

Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen gets three years sentence
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Michael Cohen, US President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, was sentenced to a total of three years in prison on Wednesday for his role in making illegal hush-money payments to women to help Trump’s 2016 election campaign and lying to Congress about a proposed Trump Tower project in Russia.

US District Judge William Pauley in Manhattan sentenced Cohen to three years for the payments, which violated campaign finance law, and to two months for the false statements to Congress. The two terms will run concurrently.

Cohen pleaded guilty to the campaign finance charge in August and to making false statements in November.

'We knew it would happen some day': France's 'capital of Christmas' left to count cost of terror
You can pay us jizya directly, O kufr, or take the hit to your economy and lifestyle.
[TheLocal.fr] "We knew his was going to happen one day," a Strasbourg resident told French daily Libération. "We knew the city was a target, especially at Christmas. We just weren't expecting it to happen tonight."

"There's no such thing as zero risk," mayor Roland Ries told AFP in 2017.

"This is a first for Strasbourg, it's really a peaceful city," said medical student Antoine. "It's hard to imagine what comes next, because we've never been through something like this."

The famed Christmas market has long been a prime target, with French authorities foiling a bomb plot as far back as December 2000, when four men suspected of Al Qaeda links were locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
Strasbourg’s reputation for being the French 'Capital of Christmas' is a well-founded one. The city’s Marché de Noel is believed to be the oldest in Europe, the first Christkindelsmärik being held in 1570.

Last year, it drew two million visitors from La Belle France and further afield, more than any other Christmas market in the country. Strasbourg’s most celebrated festival also offers a huge financial boost to the eastern city every year, and there has even talk of it becoming a UNESCO heritage site.

Access to the island formed by the River Ill is tightly controlled via the nearly 20 bridges connecting it to the rest of the city.

All these sources of pride and profit are now under threat following Tuesday’s gunning down of fifteen Strasbourg Christmas market-goers by a lone assailant, two of whom have died and twelve of whom are injured.

The psychological scars and subsequent fear effect that such ruthless attacks leave on a city’s spirit will no doubt hit attendance hard at this and other marchés de noel across La Belle France in the days to come.

So far Strasbourg mayor Roland Ries along with the organizers of Strasbourg’s Christmas Market (which was scheduled to run from November 23 to December 30) have only announced that market stalls be be closed on Wednesday December 12, as well as all other related events being cancelled in the city five kilometres from the German border.

If Christmas 2018 were to be literally cancelled as a result of the attack, vendors, hotel owners and anyone else with financial links to the city’s tourism industry would feel the pinch.

According to 2016 figures published by Alsace’s Regional Tourism Observatory, Strasbourg’s Christmas market costs the city €2 million to organize but pours €250 million back into the local economy every year.

December alone represents 15 percent of Strasbourg hoteliers’ annual turnover, with occupation reaching 80 percent during the busy Christmas period. Such is the demand from home and abroad for accommodation that prices are put up by 30 percent during December, making a one-stay in a three-star hotel more expensive on average than Gay Paree.

And while Strasbourg may stand head and heels ahead of the rest of La Belle France when it comes to Christmas-themed hype and profits, the historic and cultural region in which it lies ‐ Alsace (what is now known as Grand-Est region) ‐ is an overall Christmas market powerhouse.

Colmar, Nancy, Metz, Sélestat, Mulhouse, Haguenau: all these Alsatian towns and cities a stone’s throw from Strasbourg hold Christmas markets renowned for their warmth and authenticity.

None of them have announced they will close their marchés on Wednesday following the Tuesday attack on Strasbourg, but extra security forces will be deployed in all Christmas markets across Alsace and La Belle France as a whole.

Strasbourg authorities have previously considered the threat of a terror attack on the millions marketer-goers they receive each year, bumping up the security budget from €250,000 in 2015 to €450,000 in 2016 following several terror attacks in the French capital.

Increased security reinforcements have also been deployed in other Alsatian Christmas markets, even though none can be deemed as big a target for Death Eaters as the French capital of Christmas: Strasbourg.

Bangladesh
100 injured in BD poll campaign violence
[DAWN] Bangladesh’s election campaign turned violent on Tuesday with scores injured at political rallies across the country, as police fired pellet guns into crowds and stick-wielding mobs attacked rival candidates.

Police said festivities broke out in at least seven major towns on just the second day of campaigning, injuring nearly 100 people who turned out to cheer the two major parties contesting the December 30 poll.

The unrest follows a crackdown on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in recent weeks, with hundreds of supporters from the main opposition movement thrown behind bars before campaigning had even begun.

In Thakurgaon, a northern district, a motorcade for the BNP’s secretary general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was set upon by a huge crowd swinging batons.

Provincial governor Gen. Mohammad Yasin said Tuesday the command and control center of the group has been eliminated during the night.

He made the remarks during a presser also attended by military council officials and added that the night operations kicked off in this province over two month sago.

The officials are saying that the Talibs have suffered heavy casualties during the operations.

According to Helmand’s governor Gen. Yasin, at least 211 bandidos Death Eaters have been killed during the past one month only, including 11 of their senior commanders.

In the meantime, provincial police Chief Gen. Abdul Raziq Yaqoubi said the casualties of the Afghan armed force have also reduced during the recent months.

This comes as the shadow governor of the group for Helmand Mullah Manan was recently killed during an Arclight airstrike, reportedly carried out by the foreign forces based in Afghanistan.

Cyber
Your Phone Is Tracking Your Every Movement. Here's What You Can Do About It
[PJ] In a revealing New York Times expose, an investigation revealed that hundreds of apps are tracking our every move, many without asking permission or explaining what they are doing with the information. They know exactly where we are and where we have been at almost any moment in time.

It’s a broad surveillance effort, affecting over 200 million Americans, designed to gather more personal data and sell it to corporations, including advertisers, banks, insurance companies, health providers, and retailers. IBM, for example, is one of the key players in this industry. Examples in the article include apps tracking people into hospital operating rooms, school classrooms, and doctor’s offices, with each individual being tracked thousands of times per day. While many in the industry claim the information is anonymous, it doesn’t take much effort to connect a residence or office to its occupants.

While we expect to be tracked by such apps as Google Maps and Lyft, what it was revealing to learn how many other apps are doing it ‐ apps that have no need to know our location for them to function. Tracking is simply being added to the app as a way to generate revenue.

It’s a good bet that you’re being tracked right now. When I checked my phone I found numerous apps tracking me that have no need to know where I am. They include games, news sites, credit card companies, and travel sites, with many of them doing it even when the app is not being used.

What can you do to avoid being tracked? You can turn off the tracking by these apps or reduce the amount of tracking. You have more control over iOS phones, but you can make changes to Android phones as well. Another benefit to reduced tracking is that it reduces battery usage.

Note that you can’t rely on the apps being upfront and telling you that they are tracking you unless you want to get into the detailed agreements. Even if you make the effort to read all the fine print, many don’t disclose it clearly, and when they do, they're evasive and don’t always tell you what they do with the information.

Venezuela’s Maduro accuses John Bolton of plotting to assassinate him
[ALMASDARNEWS] Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Wednesday accused US National Security Adviser John Bolton of preparing a plan to overthrow and kill him.
I felt a great disturbance in The Force...
"John Bolton leads the plan to unleash violence and conduct a coup to introduce a transitional government. Bolton is preparing a plan of my liquidation. He is training, in various places, mercenary and paramilitary units’ forces jointly with Colombia, whose president Ivan Duque is an accomplice of this plan," Maduro said at a presser broadcast on his Facebook page.
... as though millions of Venezuelans were crying out...
Earlier in the month, Nicholas Madure has already stated that the United States is preparing to topple the Venezuelan government.

"An attempt to undermine Venezuela’s democratic life and to carry out a coup d’etat against the constitutional, democratic regime in our country has been launched under the coordination from the White House," Maduro was quoted as saying by the AVN news agency on 9 December.

The president added that in the coming days, he would hold a presser to provide details on the alleged plans of Washington to carry out a coup in Venezuela.

In early August, Maduro was attending a military parade in Caracas, when his speech was interrupted by what the Venezuelan authorities said was a failed liquidation attempt involving explosive drones.

Maduro claimed in October that the United States had allegedly instructed Colombia to organize his liquidation.

Another suspect behind torching of Diamer schools arrested
[DAWN] Gilgit-Baltistan police on Wednesday announced the arrest of a 'commander' allegedly involved in the torching of schools in Diamer earlier this year.

The suspected arsonist, identified as Qari Hidayatullah, was tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
along with three 'accomplices' in an operation in Darel on Tuesday night, a police front man said.

The police, GB Scouts and various other forces took part in the operation, the front man added. A local jirga of elders in Darel's Tangir area also played an important role in the arrests.

A member of the jirga and GB minister Haider Khan said that the jirga had warned the relatives of the suspects to hand them over, saying if security operations had to be conducted to track them down, the family members would be responsible for the consequences.

Additionally, the families were told that they would face a social boycott if they did not cooperate by handing over their wanted family members, the official said, adding that the issue is not about simply arresting the suspects, but of tackling and eliminating the triggers behind such attacks.

On the night of August 2, more than a dozen schools ‐ half of which were girls-only centres ‐ were burned down in Diamer by person or persons unknown.

An initial report suggested that miscreants carried out the attacks in an organised manner, first vandalising the buildings and then setting them ablaze.

It also said that important evidence uncovered during the investigation suggested involvement by foreigners and some local controllers.

An operation was subsequently launched in the area to track down and arrest the culprits. A total of 40 people have been arrested so far in connection with the torching of GB schools, while 15 suspects are still being searched for.

Government
California considers charging residents a tax for sending text messages
[USA Today] California's Public Utilities Commission is considering a plan that would charge mobile phone users a fee for sending text messages, according to recent public law filings.

The proposal is partially due to landline-era legislation coupled with the fact the people are shifting patterns away from voice calls in favor of texting.

California is determining whether surcharges and user fees on text messaging comply with Public Purpose Programs, which use tax revenue to make telecommunications services accessible to low-income residents. The programs, which date to the 1930s, were given a face-lift in the late 1990s, allowing individual states to impose requirements to preserve what's referred to as a "universal service."

During the rise of the internet, the telecommunications industry was able to elude these taxes by offering "information services" like email and web browsing.

However, as mobile phone users shifted their behavior away from making phone calls, voice call revenue for these state programs has dropped by about a third, from $16.5 billion in 2011 to $11.3 billion in 2017, according to law filings.

Meanwhile, the budget for subsidizing poorer users has risen by almost half, from $670 million in 2011 to $998 million in 2017, the filings said.

The wireless industry argues added fees would put carriers at a higher disadvantage since messaging services like Apple's iMessage, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger would not be charged under the proposed legislation.

Egyptian military kills 27 terrorists in recent operations
[AlAhram] Egyptian security forces have killed 27 "very dangerous" gunnies during recent security operations, the Armed Forces said in a statement on Wednesday.

The army said that 24 bad boyz were potted in a shootout during raids in Sinai and Suez Canal cities, and that the gunnies were in possession of weapons and ammunition. Air forces killed three others in the country's Western Desert bordering Libya, it added.

The statement said the bad boyz were potted over the "past period," without giving a specific timeframe. One soldier was killed in a shootout with murderous Moslems, it added.

The statement also said that Arclight airstrikes destroyed 61 vehicles containing weapons and ammunition in the Western Desert.

Security forces discovered and destroyed 344 bombs planted to target forces, as well as 342 hideouts and weapons depots used by gunnies in central and northern Sinai.

Over 400 suspects have also been tossed in the clink

Border guards arrested around 3,000 people of different nationalities trying to cross the Egyptian borders and seized large amounts of illegal narcotics.

The military launched in February a large-scale operation to eradicate gunnies who have regularly launched attacks that have killed hundreds of security forces over the past few years. The months-long campaign involves the army, navy, air force and police.

US-backed commander says Turkey is unable to attack northeast Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] The spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Kino Gabriel told Kurdistan 24 in a recent interview that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
will not be able to attack northeast Syria because the situation greatly differs than that of Afrin.

The SDF spokesperson told the publication that the U.S. observation posts in northern Syria have secured the area and blocked any potential cross-border hostilities.

"The United States has established observation points and they participated in establishing security here. I don’t think we are going to witness more attacks in the near future," Gabriel said, adding that the observation posts allowed the SDF to concentrate their forces towards the ISIS fronts.

Gabriel blamed Turkey’s attacks last month for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
’s resurgence in several towns in the Euphrates River Valley.

"This allowed the SDF to push IS and to advance in some of the areas, after they halted their operation for some time due to Ottoman Turkish attacks in the past," he would add.

US not leaving Syria until Iranian forces completely withdraw: envoy
[ALMASDARNEWS] During a briefing for the U.S. envoy to Syria James Jeffrey this week, the diplomat was asked how and when will America withdraw from Syria.

"Well, the United States forces are in Syria for one mission, which is the enduring defeat of ISIS/ISIS. That is a military mission that flows from congressional authorization in 2001 against terror post-9/11. That’s the military mission of our military there," he began.

Following his mention of ISIS, the U.S. envoy then turned his attention to Iran, who he said must completely withdraw their forces from Syria before America would consider leaving.

"When we say we’re going to be present not forever in Syria but present until our conditions ‐ enduring defeat of ISIS, as was said earlier, the withdrawal of all Iranian-commanded forces from the entirety of Syria, and an irreversible political process.

Jeffrey said that the U.S. will continue to apply pressure on the Syrian government through sanctions and other financial measures like restricting reconstruction funds.

"Also economic, both sanctions on this regime every way possible ‐ we’re announcing them all of the time, including particularly our focus is on oil transfers from Iran to Syria and money back. We’re pursing that very aggressively.

"And finally, our position, which has an awful lot of support, not to push refugees back, not to recognize the regime, and in particular not to allow reconstruction funds to flow to Syria until we see real progress on these other tracks," he would add.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan goes on offensive against US, accuses them of supplying Kurdish YPG with weapons
[ALMASDARNEWS] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
went on the offensive against Washington on Wednesday after announcing his forces were preparing to kickoff their new offensive east of the Euphrates.

Erdogan accused the U.S. military of continuously supplying weapons to the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG), despite denying that they weren’t giving them heavy arms

"They (the U.S.) said they did not supply heavy weapons when we objected to them arming YPG. They said they will collect the current arms after the threat of ISIS is eliminated. Who are you deceiving? They are talking about a 150 square-kilometer zone where they (ISIS) are active. If it is about this zone, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
is ready to immediately eliminate any ISIS presence in the area," Erdogan said, as reported by the Daily Sabah.

According to Erdogan, the U.S. has failed to live up to its promises in Manbij, which has forced him to take action east of the Euphrates.

"Although Manbij is made up 80-85 percent of Arabs, there are terror organizations there and they are not being honest. They still can’t remove gunnies from there. Then we will do it," Erdogan added.
