World's Tallest Towers Planned for ---Basra, Iraq?
AMBS Architects has proposed a 1,152-metre-tall skyscraper for Iraq's Basra Province, which would surpass Jeddah's Kingdom Tower and Dubai's Burj Khalifa to become the tallest building in the world. Basra is located in the south of Iraq, and is a rapidly growing business center.

The firm described its skyscraper as "the first vertical city in the world", saying it will not only be the tallest structure but will break new ground in engineering and vertical transportation.

It is designed to house offices, hotels, residential areas, commercial centers, parks and gardens, and even its own rail network across the 1,550,908 square meters of floor space.

"In contrast to a conventional tower, the towers will be a place that may be enjoyed by all, not only for the ones that live and work there, but also the rest of the public," the firm said in a statement.
The mid boggles. In Iraq?
The development is planned to be a net-zero structure – meaning it would produce as much energy as it consumes. No start date for construction has been set.
Several nifty renderings at the site. The article was linked in my civil engineer's newsletter.

We were just following orders -€“ The Joint Chiefs and the War with ISIS
[Ray Starmann's Defense Watch] Across the world, the War with ISIS is exploding; in Paris, Brussels, in the Middle East and at the US/Mexican border. ISIS continues to attack, attack, attack, following George Patton's motto of "l'audace, l'audace, toujours l'audace (audacity, audacity, always audacity).

While the world seems to be continually shocked by one ISIS atrocity after another, in the White House, one thing is crystal clear, President Obama has chosen to fight rising seas and disappearing glaciers before taking the fight to the marauding maniacal murderers of ISIS.

While the President has been pelted for two weeks for having no strategy to fight ISIS, no one in the press has mentioned the architects of the war against ISIS, the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Oh, those guys...

Those guys...

Where have they been this whole time? The majority of the air campaign against ISIS was being conducted while former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Martin Dempsey was at the helm of the US Military Titanic. Dempsey certainly knew that flying 10 missions a day against ISIS, 75% of which were turned around, would have no effect on the caliphate.

A pack of Cub Scouts could figure that one out, no matter how many times Admiral Kirby was wheeled out with his organ grinder and carnival shell game. Where was the Chief of Staff of the US Air Force, General Mark Welsh this whole time? Certainly he knew that the air war against ISIS was no war at all.

Where were the Joint Chiefs when Obama pulled out of Iraq, opening up a Pandora's Box into hell? Where were the Joint Chiefs when ISIS made strategic gain after strategic gain in Iraq and Syria and seized more cities and more land?

Where were the Joint Chiefs when doctored intelligence from CENTCOM was flowing into the White House faster than a Rocky Mountain river?

And, where are the Joint Chiefs now as the President willingly dodges any kind of strategy or war against the most evil threat to peace since the Nazis?

After hitting an iceberg and abandoning ship, Dempsey is currently floating down the Potomac in a raft, escaping the carnage and holding a Samsonite full of retirement benefits and the key to his new office at some Beltway defense contractor. Thank you for your service, general.

General Joe Dunford, Dempsey's replacement and the last great hope for sanity and strategy to prevail is as quiet as a church mouse. Where has Dunford been the whole time the ISIS surge has been taking place?

#1  Bringing up Nuremberg was a tad over the top, methinks.

I wonder if Mr. Starmann remembers that there's a practice in a certain branch (or two) known as "malicious obedience."

Mr. Obama has a nearly 7-year track record of his relationship with the military. He has 14 or so months left.

Do the math.

BOGRA SHIA MOSQUE : 3 remanded, RAB detains 3 others
[Bangla New Age] A Bogra court on Saturday remanded three suspects in police custody for interrogation, while the Rapid Action Battalion detained three more suspects in connection with a gun attack that killed a muezzin and injured three others during prayers inside a Shia mosque at Shibganj in Bogra.

Senior judicial magistrate Shyam Sundar Roy passed the order after police produced local Emdadul Ulum Qoumi Madrassah principal Maulana Shamsul Alam, 60, Anwar Hossain, 48, of Majhihatta and madrassah student Jewel Miah, 25, of Haripur of the upazila before the court on Saturday afternoon. Shamsul Alam was remanded in jug for five days while Anwar Hossain and Jewel Miah for seven days.

Three unknown assailants stormed into the mosque and fled jumping over the boundary wall after shooting at people who were saying Maghrib prayers on November 26. The attack claimed the life of the muezzin, Moazzem Hossain, 70, and injured the imam, Shahinur Islam, and two others -- Abu Taher and Aftab Ali.

Shibganj police detained Anwar Hossain and Jewel Miah on early Friday while Bogra Detective Branch of police detained Shamsul Alam on Friday night, said Shibganj police inspector (investigation) Kamruzzaman Miah, also the investigation officer of the case. Rapid Action Battalion-12 in Bogra detained three more suspects -- Minhaz, 18, Shahinur, 21, and Rayhan Miah, 28, of the upazila -- on Friday night in connection with the attack.

RAB-12 squad commander senior assistant superintendent of police Mafizul Islam said that the three were being interrogated.

Bogra additional superintendent of police Arifur Rahman Mondal said there was no further development in the investigation. 'We will interrogate the three in jug and try to extract clue to the attack from them,' he said.

The injured imam, Shahinur, shot in the waist, would undergo a surgery to remove the bullet after a week, said Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital vice-principal Rezaul Alam Jewel, also orthopaedic department physician. He said that bullet was removed from Taher's upper leg and he was recovering. Aftab's condition was better and he left the hospital on Friday.

Earlier, two people were killed and scores were maimed as three improvised bombs were detonated at Hussaini Dalan, the Shia headquarters in Bangladesh, in Dhaka on October 24.
Not a single encounter by either the RAB or police, one notices sadly. The interrogations must be productive.

Egypt discovers iron tunnel network under Gaza border
[Ynet] Massive network of 'extremely expensive' tunnels with 40cm-thick iron walls discovered on Egyptian side of the border, which Cairo claims was built by Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and funded by Qatar.

Egyptian border guards discovered a first of its kind underground tunnel network made of iron under the country's border with Gazoo on Friday, according to Egyptian security officials.

The tunnel was discovered at a depth of 10 meters near the northern part of the Rafah crossing, which connects the Gazoo Strip to the Sinai Peninsula.

Egyptian forces destroyed the tunnel using vast quantities of explosives.

The Egyptian officials said the tunnels were discovered when water that had been pumped from the ocean to flood the tunnels on the border, as the Egyptians have been doing in recent weeks, failed to seep into the ground. Security officials realized that something must have been blocking the water from being absorbed, and thus discovered the network of tunnels.

Egyptian engineering forces promptly began excavations in the area and discovered an iron tunnel at a depth of 10 meters. A quick examination of the tunnel revealed that its walls were made of 40cm-thick iron.

The Egyptian officials said that building such a tunnel would be an extremely expensive endeavor.

It was later discovered that the tunnel reached 200 meters into Egyptian territory and was presumably still under construction. The tunnel streched 70 meters into Paleostinian territory as well.

According to Egyptian intelligence, the advanced tunnel network includes some 17 iron tunnels from Gazoo, which are meant to service Hamas and other gangs in their fight against the Egyptian flooding operations against the tunnels.

Egyptian news portal al-Masrawi reported that Egyptian officials believe Hamas was behind the construction of the tunnels, using considerable funding come from Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
Hamas has previously voiced its disdain for the flooding campaign, saying that the operation further tightens the blockade against the Gazoo Strip, while the Rafah border crossing does not open consistently.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has previously slammed his bitter rival Egyptian president Fattah Abdel al-Sissi over the anti-tunnels operations.

The Egyptian president, for his part, clarified in recent meetings with officials from the Paleostinian Authority that the measures taken by the army are meant to secure the border between Egypt and Gazoo, for the sake of Egyptian national security. According to him, the steps cannot hurt "our Paleostinian brothers in Gazoo."

Pictures from the border area posted to social media in recent days already show cracks beginning to form in the ground due to the massive amounts of sea water being pumped into the ground.

Dr. Yuval Arbel, a groundwater expert from Friends of the Earth Israel, told Ynet that "It's hard to accurately assess what's going on from the pictures, but it is clear that if they are flooding the tunnels on such a massive scale, it will cause depressions and cracks in the ground, and may even lead to ground collapses and damage resources.

And if the Paleostain's don't like the condition of the ground, they can stop tunneling through it.

Kenya arrests two nationals over Iran-linked plot
[IsraelTimes] Police chief says country has 'irrefutable evidence' that the suspects 'were recruited into an Iranian spying ring'

Kenyan police have jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
two men who were allegedly recruited by an Iranian group accused of plotting attacks in the east African nation, the police chief said Saturday.

Police chief Joseph Boinett said they believed the two Kenyan men had traveled to Iran several times, identifying them as Abubakar Sadiq Louw, 69, and Yassin Sambai Juma. Kenyan media gave the latter's age as 25.

"We have irrefutable evidence they were recruited into an Iranian spying ring," Boinett told news hounds in the capital Nairobi, indicating that other unidentified security agencies had helped "uproot this network".

"The mission of that ring was to mount terror attacks in this city, not only targeting Western interests but targeting our people as well."

Louw was recruited "a number of years ago" and had been instructed to "recruit other Kenyans into the network", including Juma, with the pair making "a number of trips to Iran in which they met their handlers" and where they had been "given targets and given money."

Police gave no further details about the alleged Iranian group the men were linked to.

The announcement was made a day after Pope Francis ended a three-day visit to Kenya, where security was a major concern.

Iranians are treated with particular suspicion in Kenya, which is a close ally of Israel.

In May 2013, a Kenyan court sentenced two Iranians to life in prison for terror-related charges, including possessing explosives allegedly to be used in kabooms. Ahmed Mohammed, 50, and Sayed Mansour, 51, were found guilty of possessing 15 kilos (33 pounds) of the powerful explosive RDX, which police found hidden in a hole on a golf course.

At the time, the court said they were believed to have links to a network planning bombings in Nairobi and the eastern port of Mombasa, the country's second largest city. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Iran of plotting anti-Israeli attacks in Kenya.

Israeli businesses in Kenya have been targeted in the past, including the al-Qaeda-claimed bombing of an Israeli-owned hotel in Mombasa in 2002, in which 18 people died, as well as a failed missile strike on an Israeli charter plane at the same time.

YPG advances near Turkey’s border
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's semi-official Anadolu news agency reported that the People's Protection Units (YPG) were backed by Russian aircraft Saturday in an advance into the Azaz region of Syria near the Turkish border.
Oh? Poor future neo-Ottoman Sultan Recep Tayyip I "The Bilious" must now be very sorry indeed that he indulged himself by giving that shoot down order.
Russian warplanes have reportedly facilitated the advance of YPG fighters by carrying out three Arclight airstrikes against the road linking the district with the Bab al Salameh border checkpoint.

Anadolu also reported that last week Russian aircraft bombed opposition forces in eastern Syria's Deir Cemal and Meryemeyn in an effort to open corridors for the YPG and Syrian Democratic Forces.

Turkey's National Security Council in October denounced a new self-proclaimed Kurdish enclave in Syria - Tal Abyad, or Gire Spi - and called on the international community to condemn the YPG as terrorists. Turkey has called the region of Tal Abyad "a campaign to change the demographic make-up of northern Syria."

Turkey's council assembled after representatives of ethnic communities in the now Kurdish-controlled city of Tal Abyad met Wednesday to declare the region autonomous.

Control of the region is significant for the YPG because it links together many predominantly Kurdish villages in northern Syrian.

Turkey has warned the United States and Russia it will not tolerate any Kurdish region to be held by the PKK, which is deemed a terrorist group by NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
"This is clear cut for us and there is no joking about it," a Turkish official told Rooters in October.

Turkey fears advances by Kurdish forces on the Syrian side of its 900 km (560-mile) border will fuel separatist ambitions among Kurds in its own southeastern territories. But Washington has supported YPG fighters as an effective force in combating Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, Rooters added.

"We have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough," Obama said in a statement, revealing that the shooter in Colorado Springs who killed three people and maimed nine Friday had used a military-style assault rifle.

The #LaquanMcDonald Farce
Robert Stacy McCain explicates the Laquan McDonald mess:
Because the media narrative of this story is about racism, we are not allowed to mention the fact that Officer Van Dyke wasn’t just firing haphazardly at whatever random black person he encountered that night in October 2014. No, he arrived on Pulaski Road to join a situation in progress, the pursuit of a felony suspect who was attempting to evade arrest. It has been pointed out that several other Chicago police were on the scene, and that only Officer Van Dyke fired his weapon — a deadly use of excessive force, for which he has been charged with first-degree murder.

If all Chicago police are racist, why did only one of them shoot Laquan McDonald? Or if racism is such a serious problem with Chicago police, where are the stories about officers just shooting black people at random? The media is so intent on selling us the Evil White Cop narrative (updated hourly on CNN) that anyone trying to look outside that framework risk being accused of endorsing police brutality.

There is, conveniently, never any explanation of events that lead up to the incident caught on video. That would take an investigation and they don't have time for that because they have cops to demonize.

150 World Leaders to Paris Climate Change Talks-what a sweet, sweet target
[FoxNews] Paris and the surrounding area will essentially be locked down for the 12-day summit. And climate-change activists have reportedly agreed to cancel a march Sunday, after an appeal from French leaders.
Here's hoping absolutely nothing happens, either inside or outside the venue.

after unknown attackers opened fire on a gathering in the mainly Kurdish province of Diyarbakir, triggering a shootout with police, hospital sources and witnesses said.

According to witnesses, unknown assailants opened fire on Tahir Elci and 40 other activists as they were giving a press statement near a mosque in Diyarbakir's Sur district.

The police immediately returned fire, they said.

Tahir Elci, head of the bar in Diyarbakir who were tossed into the calaboose in October for alleged "terrorist propaganda", died of gunshot wounds to the head, hospital sources told AFP.

Three coppers and an unknown number of journalists were maimed in the festivities, the witnesses said.
A hunt for the attackers was underway.

Turkey's southeast has been hit by the worst violence in years after a two-year old ceasefire between the Turkish government and the PKK Death Eaters collapsed in July.

Elci was released pending his trial over an interview in which he said the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was not a terrorist organization. He had risked up to seven years in prison.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
In Ukraine, Holodomor's Terrors Remain Fresh In The Minds Of Survivors
KYIV, DNIPROPETROVSK, Ukraine -- Sitting up straight in a freshly pressed white shirt, Pavlo Rozhko beams with delight as he sings a Ukrainian folk song to the accompaniment of a traditional stringed instrument known as a bandura.

Rozhko, who at 91 still participates in a choir, says he has loved singing ever since his childhood on a bustling family farm in the village of Piski in southeastern Ukraine.

"My father and mother were cheerful people," he says. "They were sewing, spinning. We had our own sheep and lambs. We kept the lambs inside the house. There were a lot of us. We were dancing, singing, shouting. Nobody yelled at us about anything. Everyone was growing up healthy and happy, until the collectivization."

Rozhko was 11 when a massive famine hit Soviet Ukraine, as Josef Stalin pushed forward with radical agricultural reforms that stripped millions of peasant families of their land and crops.

By the time the 1932-33 famine ended, at least 3 million and as many as 10 million Ukrainians and Cossacks had died, and the Soviet Union's most fertile land had been overtaken by massive, Kremlin-run collective farms.

The Holodomor, as the famine is now known, was never officially acknowledged by Soviet authorities, who said crop failure was to blame for any random accounts of starvation.

But as Ukraine has been preparing to mark the 80th anniversary of the Holodomor on November 23, the few remaining survivors remember the famine as deliberate, sweeping, and filled with terror.

Food Left To Rot

Maria Simak grew up in Spaske, a prosperous Cossack farming village where nearly all the villagers owned land and a team of horses. But in 1932, Soviet officials entered the town, seizing livestock, vegetables, and grains that they went on to sell for profit abroad, or left to rot in silos.

Simak credits her mother, a talented dressmaker, with keeping her and her brother alive by taking in orders from the local Communist Party elite. But even so, the family was forced to scavenge for edible plants in order to keep from starving.

"I know that we would eat weeds and crushed straw," she says. "We would boil it and our mother would form them into patties that we called 'matorzhenyki.' There was no flour. We dried herbs and plants and pounded them in a mortar, and then Mama would make these matorzhenyki."

People foraged in creek beds for mussels, boiled bark stripped from trees, and hunted snakes and ground squirrels. Mykola Mykolaenko, a 93-year-old Dnipropetrovsk poet and playwright who has written extensively about the Holodomor, said he would furtively collect discarded fish heads from a cafeteria for factory managers and smuggle them home to his mother to boil into a weak soup.

Such nighttime outings terrified his mother as rumors of cannibalism spread. Mykolaenko, who grew up in the village of Maryanivka, never saw actual evidence of people killing each other for food. But his mother warned him of the danger every time he went out, and he said paranoia in the starving village was rampant.

"It began even before 1933," he said. "One day, someone would go to a neighbor to ask for salt...and the next day they'd already be saying that someone in that family ate somebody else, that they killed a younger child in order to feed the older ones."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
After loss, ISIS reestablishes new MSR
ARA News

ERBIL – The radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) started a project on the Syria-Iraq border aimed at opening a highway linking Mosul in northwestern Iraq to Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa in northeastern Syria, local sources reported on Saturday.

The move comes after the Kurdish Peshmerga forces took over the strategic Yezidi region of Sinjar (Shingal), cutting-off the supply lines between ISIS-held areas in Syria and Iraq.

Speaking to ARA News in Mosul, journalist Abdullah al-Mulla said that ISIS has moved dozens of workers, engineers, technicians and engineering vehicles from the municipalities of Mosul and Tal Afar to the district of al-Baaj on the Syrian border.

“ISIS wants to renovate the road connecting the district with Sufuk police outpost, after losing the road between Sinjar in northern Iraq and Syria’s al-Hawl and Raqqa to the Kurdish Peshmerga and allied local fighters,” he added.

Al-Mulla pointed out that Mosul is experiencing an acute shortage of food amid unprecedented rise of prices as a result of the Peshmerga’s control of the highway.

Last week, warplanes of the U.S-led coalition targeted some 116 ISIS oil tankers coming from the Iraqi province of Nineveh to al-Bukamal and al-Mayadeen east of Deir ez-Zor in Syria, paralyzing traffic in the area.

“The new ISIS-held highway is also expected to connect the group’s major stronghold Raqqa with Deir ez-Zor. The trucks take their way from Deir ez-Zor to Hasakah reaching al-Sour down to Sufuk outpost on the border with Iraq, and finally reaching al-Baaj and Tal Afar,” an ISIS-linked informed source told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

The source concluded that the trapped people in Mosul and other districts in northern Iraq receive fuel and medicines that come from Turkey and Syria.

“The gas comes from the Syrian regions, while food products and clothing come from Turkey,” the source added.

ISIS took over Mosul in mid-June 2014. Since then, the northwestern Iraqi city has been besieged by the Kurdish forces and Iraqi government troops. Mosul currently depends on the goods and basic supplies that enter from Syria and Turkey.

Arabic graffiti found daubed on planes in France
[IsraelTimes] EasyJet says writing on fuel tank panels and toilet door is 'nothing more than graffiti'
But why there, and why now?
An investigation has been launched after graffiti in Arabic was found scrawled on four planes belonging to budget airline easyJet at airports in La Belle France.

An email detailing the discovery was sent to easyJet employees by the company's cabin safety manager, Lisa King, Sky News reported Saturday. The email said that the discovery involved to "four aircraft in La Belle France with written inscriptions on the inside of the fuel panel, and toilet door in Arabic script."

Details of what the graffiti said were not provided, Sky reported, adding that the company does not believe it posed a threat and no passengers were removed from the aircraft involved.

"EasyJet assessed this issue, each time working in full consultation with the authorities, and is entirely satisfied it is nothing more than graffiti," a spokeswoman for easyJet said, according to the report. "EasyJet takes very seriously any security related issue and would not operate a flight unless we are entirely satisfied it is completely safe to do so.

"EasyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in full compliance with all regulations. The safety and security of its passengers and crews is always easyJet's highest priority."

The location of the planes involved has not been revealed for security reasons, and the investigation is seeking to establish who was behind the incident, the report said.

Ynet reports that the company is not taking this lightly:
The staff and crew of European low-cost carrier easyJet were placed on high alert after Arabic graffiti was found scrawled on four different passenger jet fuel panels, the Daily Mail reported on Saturday.

According to the report, "The graffiti was found daubed next to fuel tanks on four jets parked at French airports."

Company employees and crew were reported to have been instructed to increase vigilance and take extra precautions after the graffiti was found on the fuel panels, an area of the jet which is among the most secured.

easyJet has not released the content of the writing, but the incidents have sparked fears that a more sinister plot could be in the making, according to the report.

Turkey fights Kurds who fight ISIS
[ARA News] ISTANBUL – Although Turkey agreed to join the U.S.-led coalition against the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) in the region, the Turkish army has focused most of its strikes on positions of the Kurdish rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), ignoring military actions against ISIS targets.

Kurdish activists argue that Turkey has hit few ISIS targets to justify its alleged “anti-terror” efforts and shifted its military operations towards bombing Kurdish positions. Others went on saying that Turkey has facilitated ISIS-led attacks on Kurdish civilians in Suruc last July and Ankara last month.

“We are determined to continue the anti-terrorism operations inside and outside the country,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said after his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) won the early elections begin of November. “No break; we will keep on.”

Turkish forces had the firepower to fight ISIS and they turned their backs. Literally.

(ISIS) plot to use chemical bombs against Peshmerga frontlines in Makhmour was foiled, according to a Peshmerga statement.

"In a bid to target Peshmerga stockades in the village of Baqirt on the Makhmour front, ISIS bandidos turbans wanted to explode mortars rigged with chemical weapons," according to the statement issued Saturday.

Before ISIS could carry out the attack, "the Peshmerga foiled the attack, and later bomb disposal teams defused the mortars," the statement said.

ISIS has used chemical weapons against the Peshmerga, including on the Makhmour front, as an alternative tactic to thwart Peshmerga advances.

After a suspected chemical weapons attack by ISIS on the Peshmerga in early August, tests proved that ISIS had used mustard gas against Kurdish fighters on the Gwer- Makhmour front, wounding several fighters. A Peshmerga official confirmed to Rudaw that 45 mortars were fired at Peshmerga positions in just one night.

Coalition forces set for sweeping attacks on Taiz
Arab coalition forces, led by Saudi Arabia, successfully destroyed the operations room of the rebels in the border areas of Saudi.

Coalition forces with support from popular resistance forces conducted at least seven air strikes in Taiz, including raids in the east of the governorate, according to a report in ‘Al Bayan’.

The raids come as part of coalition forces’ preparation to launch sweeping attacks in Taiz.

One of the air strikes on the mountainous area affected the tunnel, which is used by rebel leaders.

Meanwhile, the Yemeni president urged the residents of Taiz governorate to close their ranks and back the national army and resistance forces on all fronts to cleanse the city of Taiz from the rebels.

Nearly 1,000 Denied Entry to France Since Paris Attacks
[ALMANAR.LB] Nearly 1,000 people thought to pose security risks have been denied entry into La Belle France since stepped-up border controls were imposed ahead of the COP21 climate talks on November 13, just hours before the Gay Paree attacks, the interior minister said Saturday.

They were prevented from entering La Belle France "because of the risk these people could represent for public order and security in our country," Bernard Cazeneuve said during a visit to the northeastern city of Strasbourg.

He said nearly 15,000 police, gendarmes and customs agents have been deployed to the borders.

The aim of the boosted controls is to enable the authorities to reinforce security as the COP21 climate talks officially get under way in Gay Paree on Monday and also to confront the high terrorist threat level facing the country, Cazeneuve said, adding that they would make any necessary arrests.

A few hours after the tougher border controls ahead of the climate talks took effect on November 13, bully boyz carried a series of attacks at several sites in Gay Paree, killing 130 people.

The French government, which has declared a state of emergency, said it would continue the increased border security as long as the terrorist threat remains high.

Shelling in Benghazi's Ard Zwawa district kills two
[Libya Herald] Two people were killed and at least 12 injured, including two children, shortly after 9 am this morning when rockets smashed into a number of buildings and vehicles in Benghazi's Ard Zwawa Al-Bahria district. Rockets have also hit Tipolino district on the other side of the city, near Garyunis.

Zwawa was crowded with people busy shopping when the rockets hit, a local resident told the Libya Herald. There was panic, he said, as people fled the area, which close to Sabri, and shops shut.

A couple of rockets narrowly missed an elementary school, he added, which was being used for examinations for high-school students. The examinations had been long delayed and had just started today.

Locals in Zwawa have blamed the attacks on the Islamist umbrella group the Benghazi Revolutionaries' Shoura Council, some of whose fighters are still based in Sabri. They also said that this not random shelling, that Zwawa was deliberately targeted.

Economy
Debt Bomb Ticking for US Shale
Reported as some apocalyptic event, this is how industries shake out the weak and improve the bottom line for the survivors. Found via Free Republic and Zero Hedge.
[EnergyIntel] The US E&P sector could be on the cusp of massive defaults and bankruptcies so staggering they pose a serious threat to the US economy. Without higher oil and gas prices — which few experts foresee in the near future — an over-leveraged, under-hedged US E&P industry faces a truly grim 2016. How bad could things get and when? It increasingly looks like a number of the weakest companies will run out of financial stamina in the first half of next year, and with every dollar of income going to service debt at many heavily leveraged independents, there are waves of others that also face serious trouble if the lower-for-longer oil price scenario extends further.

"I could see a wave of defaults and bankruptcies on the scale of the telecoms, which triggered the 2001 recession," Timothy Smith, president of consultancy Petro Lucrum, told a Platts energy conference in Houston last week. Much has been made about the resiliency of US oil production in the face of low prices, but the truth is that many producers are maximizing their output — even unprofitable volumes — because they need the cash flow to service their debt (related). "As an industry, we're at the point where every dollar of free cash flow now goes to paying back debt," Angle Capital's Steve Ilkay told the same conference. Ilkay, who advises North American producers on asset management, said during the boom years of 2012-14 about 55% of the sector's free cash flow, which is calculated by subtracting capital expenditures from operating cash flow, was allocated toward debt repayment.

Twin explosions rock Quetta
QUETTA: Two low intensity blasts hit Chashma Achozai area close to the airport Saturday afternoon.

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by miscreants went off in a deserted area close to the railway track, said officials. Security officials rushed to the site and cordoned off the area after the first explosion. As officials gathered to investigate the site, another blast took place close by. Police sources said there was no loss of life as a result of the twin blasts, which caused panic among people. Chashma Achozai is located on Quetta’s airport road and is considered a peaceful neighbourhood. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts.

Quetta has in recent years witnessed numerous instances of terror, including suicide explosions, sectarian killing and targeted killing of security officials. Last month, a blast in a local bus killed at least 10 people, two of them children, on Quetta’s Sariab Road. Twenty-two people were injured in the incident, six of them seriously. Law-enforcement agencies have intensified their operations against terrorists in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.

We are ready for Sanaa battle: resistance leader

The national resistance in Sanaa governorate is prepared to begin the battle for the liberation of the Yemeni capital and end the Iranian-backed coup, the Sanaa resistance leader was reported on Sunday as saying.

Mansour Al Hanq said most of the Sanaa residents do not support the Houthis and their allies and that the citizens are subject to repression and terrorisation by the rebels.

“The combat preparations by the resistance in Sanaa are completed and we are ready for the battle to liberate Sanaa,” he told the Saudi daily 'Asharq Al Awsat'.

“I believe that most tribes in Sanaa will join the battle against the rebels and this will make the liberation of the city easier. We are all resolved to liberate Sanaa and end the rebel’s presence in the city in coordination with the Saudi-led Arab coalition.”

He said the Sanaa resistance is coordinating with the national army and the resistance in other areas through a joint military command.

He noted that most of the resistance men are well-trained fighters and that they defeated the Houthis in many areas in Sanaa governorate before some of the Army units seceded and backed the rebels.

“We are now working together rapidly to launch the Zero Hour, which will be decided by the military leaders. Most tribes in Sanaa are also awaiting the Zero Hour to attack these terrorists and save their country.”

Syrian Army retakes Kweires air base
ARA News

ALEPPO – Syrian army forces were able to recapture territory from the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) east of a key military airport in Aleppo countryside, army officials reported on Saturday.

The army seized a number of villages and towns on the highway linking Aleppo with the ISIS’s de facto capital of Raqqa.

The areas recaptured are located east of the Kweires air base, which was seized by ISIS on Nov. 10.

After several offensives by the Syrian regime’s army, with support from Russian airstrikes, Iranian forces, and Lebanese Hezbollah militia, the army regained the villages of Kaskis and Agoula (60 km east of Aleppo) along with large swaths of agricultural land, including ISIS tunnels, state agency SANA quoted army officials as saying.

Special units from the army have reportedly dismantled dozens of land-mines planted by the radical group around the Kweires base.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, media activists Muhannad al-Jasim confirmed Wednesday that the army forces have advanced in the vicinity of the Kweires air base, seizing all the farms located on the road between the base and the town of Deir Hafer in the vicinity of Aleppo city.

“After two hours of clashes, in which both sides used medium and heavy weapons, ISIS militants withdrew towards Deir Hafer and villages near the Kweires base,” al-Jasim added.

Syria security forces stationed at the Kweires air base targeted the ISIS-held cities of al-Bab and Deir Hafer with rockets and artillery shells.

In the meantime, Russian warplanes launched four airstrikes on ISIS’s positions in the vicinity of Deir Hafer, causing the destruction of a machinegun (14. 5) and a troop carrier, without knowing the death toll in the group’s ranks.

The Syrian regime and its allies have also made gains against ISIS in southeastern Homs.

Also on Saturday, pro-regime troops waged an offensive against moderate rebels in the coastal province of Latakia, recapturing several villages in the province, local sources reported.

Saudi Curricula... That's How They Created Savagery
[ALMANAR.LB] In his open message to the Islamic World in late 2014, Professor of Philosophy at the Sophia Antipolis University in Nice, La Belle France, Abdul Nour Bidar, wrote: "If you want to learn how not to produce a future as these monsters (ISIL), you should start reforming the entire education your children are receiving, as well as in all places of knowledge and within authorities. This is your only way not to produce such monsters."

With his honest words to the Islamic World, Bidar, the Muslim French intellectual pointed the issue as it is. The problem lies within the "fanatic dark Wahhabi recession that is still causing corruption in the Kingdom of Soddy Arabia

Pakistan Airstrikes Kill 17 Militants
[ALMANAR.LB] Pak fighter jets killed 17 hard boyz Friday in Arclight airstrikes carried out in the country's remote tribal belt near the Afghan border, the military said in a statement.

The strikes in the Rajgal area of the Khyber tribal district also destroyed four bully boy hideouts and an ammunition dump, it said.

"Seventeen faceless myrmidons including some foreigners were killed in the aerial strikes in the remote area of Rajgal," a brief military statement said.

The strikes were part of a major offensive aimed at clearing Taliban and Al-Qaeda strongholds that began last year in North Wazoo, one of seven Pak tribal districts bordering Afghanistan.

The conflict zone is remote and off-limits to journalists, making it difficult to verify the army's claims, including the number and identity of those killed.

The military began the offensive in Khyber in October 2014, carrying out air strikes and using artillery, mortars and ground troops.

The army then intensified and expanded its offensive after the Taliban massacred more than 150 people, the majority of them children, at a school in the northwestern city of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

Arms for Paris Attacks 'Bought from Germany': Report
[ALMANAR.LB] Four assault rifles used in the deadly Gay Paree attacks were allegedly purchased from a trafficker in Germany, newspaper Bild reported Friday, as prosecutors said they were still probing a possible link.

Quoting documents from the Stuttgart prosecutor's office, the newspaper said two AK47s and two Zastava M70s were sold on November 7 by the arms dealer to a customer in Gay Paree.

"French Sherlocks believe that the weapons were allegedly used in the attacks in Gay Paree," said Bild.

A front man for the Stuttgart prosecutor's office confirmed the arrest of an arms dealer but said he could not confirm or deny a connection with the Gay Paree attacks.

"We are still investigating," he said.

According to Bild, German police on Monday tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
a 34-year-old man named Sascha W. from the southern city of Magstadt on suspicion of the illegal weapons trade.

The suspect is accused of having hawked the weapons on the Darknet -- a hidden network used for both legal and illicit ends -- using the name "DW Guns".

Four emails on his smart phone show that he sold "four Kalashnikovs assault rifles to an Arab in Gay Paree", added the newspaper.

During a raid at the suspect's house, police also found 16 other firearms, Bild said.

The prosecutor's office said the man was aged 24 and arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of converting starter guns into deadly weapons and selling them on the Darknet.

"He is believed to have built the parts for this himself," the front man said, adding that only pistols had been found.

Taliban bought 12yo boy for $100, only to train a suicide bomber
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Saturday unveiled a shocking new story regarding a child trained as jacket wallah by Taliban group after he was sold by his parents for AFN 7,000, equivalent to around $100.

The 12-year-old child recently handed over himself to the Afghan police after managing to escape from training center where was receiving suicide kaboom trainings along with a group of other children.

According to a statement by MoI, the child is originally a resident of Qaisar district who has told police that his family sold him to Taliban for AFN 7,000 only.

The child whose name has not been disclosed apparently due to security reasons has also told police that he was kept together with six other children who were also purchased from their family.

The statement by MoI further added that the children were being trained by Taliban capo Mullah Qayum in Ghormach district of western Badghis province.

The Talibs wanted to use the children to target the Afghan cops and other government officials in Qaisar district of Faryab province, MoI said.

The child also told police that he was opposing with the Taliban request to carry out suicide attack and used the opportunity to surrender to police in Charshanbe Bazar area of Qaisar district.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Bedouin Israeli arrested for aiding Kiryat Gat terrorist
[IsraelTimes] Zuhair al-Huzayal from Rahat allegedly drove Muhammad Tarada to town where he stabbed 4 people, including 13-year-old

A resident of the Bedouin town of Rahat was placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
Thursday night by police and security forces on suspicion that he helped a terrorist carry out a stabbing attack in southern Israel last Saturday.

Ashkelon Magistrate's Court on Friday extended the remand of the suspect, named as 37-year-old Zuhair al-Huzayal, the Haaretz daily reported.

Huzayal is alleged to have driven the attacker from the Hebron area of the West Bank into Israel. The arrest marks the second time a Bedouin has been implicated in involvement in a terror attack.

Three other people -- the stabber and two other alleged accomplices -- have already been arrested. Huzayal is also suspected of other instances of driving Paleostinians with no entry permit into Israel.

Four people were maimed in the November 21 stabbing attack in Kiryat Gat, including a 13-year-old girl. The terrorist, identified as 18-year-old Muhammad Tarada, was caught by police after a five-hour manhunt.

Europe
Sixth Person Charged in Belgium over Paris Attacks
[AnNahar] A Belgian judge on Friday charged a sixth suspect with terrorism offenses in connection with the Gay Paree attacks, prosecutors said, as the country pushes on with its investigation into links to the November 13 atrocities.

"Yesterday a person has been tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in Brussels for interrogation. The investigating judge has remanded him in jug and charged him with terrorist murders and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization," the federal prosecutor said in a statement.

The prosecutor gave no further details about the suspect.

Also on Friday a Brussels court remanded two other people charged with terror offenses -- French national Ali Oulkadi, 31, and an unnamed man arrested on Tuesday -- in jug for another month.

Oulkadi's lawyer said on Friday that Oulkadi had driven key Gay Paree attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam across Brussels the day after the atrocities without knowing he had been involved.

"No one knew that Salah was wanted, he (Ali Oulkadi) did not know," Olivier Martins said after his client appeared in a Brussels court under armed guard as investigations continued into the November 13 Gay Paree massacre which left 130 people dead.

Two people detained for questioning after searches in the eastern town of Verviers -- where two jihadists were killed in a gunbattle with police in January -- were released on Friday, the prosecutor said.

The first two people to be charged in Belgium over the Gay Paree attacks were Mohammed Amri, 27, and Hamza Attou, 20, who were accused on November 16 on suspicion of helping Salah Abdeslam escape to Brussels after the carnage.

The last known sighting of Abdeslam was at a police check in Cambrai, La Belle France, in a Volkswagen Golf along with two people believed to be Amri and Attou, but he was not stopped.

Lazez Abrimi, a 39-year-old Moroccan from the Molenbeek district of Brussels, an area which has been linked to several of the suspects, was meanwhile charged last week with terrorism offenses after two guns and traces of blood were found in his car, the prosecutor said.

Belgium on Tuesday also issued an international arrest warrant for Mohammed Abrini, 30, who was filmed along with Salah Abdeslam at a petrol station in Ressons, La Belle France on the motorway to Gay Paree, in a Renault Clio which was later used in the attacks.

Arabia
Saudi strikes on Yemeni civilians condemned by Human Rights Watch
[FRANCE24] At least ten air strikes carried out by a Saudi-led coalition in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
broke the laws of war and killed civilians, Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
alleged Friday.

The strikes are listed in a major new report by the watchdog, which estimates that 2,500 Yemeni civilians have died in coalition strikes since March.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the UAE and other Arab allies -- with logistical support from the United States -- are battling Houthis on behalf of the Yemen government.

Riyadh has furiously denied previous reports of indiscriminate bombing, but Friday's detailed report cites a wealth of witness testimony.

The strikes in the report killed at least 309 civilians, maimed at least 414 and were in breach of the allies' obligation to investigate alleged war crimes.

"Human Rights Watch found either no evident military target or that the attack failed to distinguish civilians from military objectives," the report said.

"Human Rights Watch is unaware of any investigations by Saudi Arabia or other coalition members in these or other reported cases."

'Witness testimonies'
"We have data about documented strikes, and witness testimonies. If the Arab coalition doesn't hit civilians, then how do they explain the corpse count?", Ahmed Benchemsi, Communications Director at the Middle East division of Human Rights Watch, told FRANCE 24.

The 10 suspect attacks took place in Huthi-controlled Sanaa, Amran, Hajja, Hodeida and Ibb and hit residential houses, market places, a factory, and a civilian prison.

Washington has given strong diplomatic backing to the Saudi offensive and earlier this months approved a $1.29 billion sale of bombs to renew its ally's arsenal.

Britannia and La Belle France are also major arms suppliers to Saudi Arabia and its Emirati ally.

Human Rights Watch urged the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Security Council to investigate its allegations and to remind the warring parties of their legal responsibilities.

Afghanistan
Bandits Threaten Economic Artery Between Faryab-Balkh
[Tolo News] Faryab residents on Saturday voiced their growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation along the key Faryab-Balkh highway which links Maimana and Mazar-e-Sharif respectively.

According to them, traffic along this key economic highway is often brought to a standstill by gunnies who regularly stop motorists and rob them of their belongings.

Some residents said these gangs will also not stop at taking the lives of motorists if so deemed.

Tolonews journalist, Sayed Arif Musave, reports from the area that such incidents along the highway are also making it difficult for babus government employees to use the route. They said all government officials are now having to be escorted by Afghan security personnel.

The key highway that connects Faryab to the northern provinces is one of Afghanistan's major routes. Residents and motorists who use this highway are however running out of patience and are putting pressure on government to improve security.

"Lootings are done on way toward Maimana and Mazar-e-Sharif, robbers loot and there is no security. Security also does not exist in Andkhoi and Dawlat Abad," a Maimana resident Abdul Qadeer said.

This comes despite the deployment of a security force unit to the area. But according to some officials, this has made no difference, especially for government officials.

"Checkpoints are far away from each other, we want the highway to be focused on so that we can protect the safety of the civilians and Afghanistan's institutions," MP Bashir Ahmad Tayanj said.

Afghan officials have meanwhile also asked government to deploy more troops and establish more check points along the highway so that the security can return to normal. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
these MPs have paid homage to the efforts of security forces that work around the clock to remove threats.

"There must be coordination between national army, national directorate of security and national police, this will help them to maintain security and secure the passengers," MP Hashim said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, a little lightbulb figuratively appeared over Bossy's head...
newly appointed governor of Faryab province, Sayed Anwar Sadaat, said Saturday that his administration was determined to work on new programs aimed at curbing threats and providing satisfactory security to the residents and motorists and passengers.

"I promise to work for implementation of justice, rule of law, justice, reconstruction, renovation and development projects and we will work honestly," Faryab governor Sayed Anwar Sadaat said.

Bangladesh
ATTACKS ON BLOGGERS, PUBLISHERS : No clue, no arrest after a month
[Bangla New Age] The police have made no headway in the investigation of the murder of secular blogger and publisher, Faisal Arefin Dipan, and attacks on another publisher and two bloggers on the same day, a month into the incident.

Families of the victim said they were frustrated with the sluggish pace of the investigation. They said the police had stopped contacting the families since long.

On October 31, unknown assailants killed secular blogger and publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, who ran Jagriti Prakashany, at his office at Aziz Super Market at Shahbagh.

Three hours before the incident, another publisher, Ahmedur Rashid Chowd hury Tutul of 'Suddhaswar', and two other secular bloggers, Tareq Rahim and Sudeep Bhattacharya, widely known as Ranadipam Basu, were hacked at Suddhaswar office in Lalmatia.

The Sherlocks said they suspect murderous Moslem groups for carrying out the attacks but neither have the motives for the attacks been established nor have the perpetrators been identified.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch is investigating the cases after two separate cases were filed with Shahbagh and Mohammadpur cop shoppes.

When asked about progress in the investigation, DMP joint commissioner [DB] Monirul Islam said, 'we suspect the involvement of murderous Moslem groups in the incidents, but the actual motive of the attacks have not been determined'.

'We could not arrest anyone and no one has been identified', he said.

Monirul said investigations were ongoing looking at 'relevant matters' into the incidents.

He said the close circuit camera footage at Aziz Supermarket could not help the Sherlocks as no one could be identified from the footage.

There was no CCTV camera at Suddhaswar office at Lalmatia, he said.

The slain publisher Faisal's father, Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq, expressed frustration at the slow progress in the investigation.

'What are they [Sherlocks] doing...? Ask them...They did not even contact me since after the burial of Faisal', said Abul Quasem, also professor of Bangla at Dhaka University.

The injured, Ahmedur and Sudeep, who were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, have been released.

Tareque Rahim is still at the hospital, but his condition is stable, doctors said.

Expressing frustration, Sudeep's brother, Pallab Bhattacharya, told New Age that he did not expect to know from police about the progress into the investigation.

'They [police] have failed to investigate each and every attack on bloggers in the past. We don't think they can arrest the perpetrators in this case'.

With the latest attacks, at least five secular bloggers have been killed and four injured in 2015 in similar attacks since the killing of blogger Avijit Roy on Dhaka University campus on February 26.

Tutul and Dipan were both close to slain writer-blogger Avijit Roy and had published his books.

Europe
Police, migrants clash on Macedonia border
[Bangla New Age] Police in Macedonia fired tear gas and stun grenades at desperate migrants stranded for days at the Greek border and who are demanding passage to western Europe, as soldiers began erecting a metal fence to keep them out.

Macedonia, along with other Balkan countries on the migrant route, began turning away economic migrants nearly two weeks ago. Human rights groups have criticised the decision, under which only Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans are allowed through.

The new restrictions triggered days of protests from Iranians, Paks, Moroccans and others, stranded in squalid tent camps on the border. Some Iranians have sewn their lips shut. One man on Saturday threw himself on railway lines before the police, screaming and flailing.

Saturday's violence broke out after one migrant, believed to be a Moroccan, was electrocuted and badly burned when he climbed on top of a train wagon.

An angry crowd surged towards lines of Macedonian police and began throwing stones, a Rooters photographer at the scene said.

The police responded with tear gas and stun grenades, driving the crowd back, a Rooters photographer at the scene said. Some officers threw stones.

In a surge that began about 18 months ago, migrants have been flowing across Balkan borders, having landed by boat in Greece from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
Human rights groups say international conventions require countries to treat asylum requests on merit, not on the basis of nationality.

Earlier on Saturday, Macedonian soldiers began driving metal poles around 3 metres high into the cold, muddy ground, building a barrier similar to that erected by Hungary on its southern border.

European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
member Hungary in September and October sealed its southern border to migrants, calling them a threat to the security, prosperity and Christian values of Europe.

But the Macedonian government said it had no intention of sealing its border completely. A government front man said the aim of the fence was to direct the inflow of people towards the controlled points for their registration and humane treatment.

We would like to underline that the border will remain open, said front man Aleksandar Gjorgjiev. We will allow passage for the people who come from war-affected regions as we have done thus far.

Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia say they began filtering the migrants after Slovenia, further along the route, announced it would start doing the same.

The number of migrants making the journey to Europe rose dramatically this year compared to 2014, although the influx shows signs of decreasing as winter approaches.

Germany expects roughly 1 million refugees and migrants to arrive this year alone.

Arabia
Coalition jets bomb rebel weapons ship
Arab coalition jets attacked a large vessel carrying weapons for the Iranian-backed coup rebels off the Yemeni coast in the Gulf of Aden, a news network reported on Sunday.

The warplanes carried out eight raids against the ship off the Southern Shabwa governorate on Saturday, Masdar Online said, quoting a military source.

It said the vessel was destroyed while many crew members were killed or wounded in the attack off the port of Rodoom.

The network quoted the source as saying the Saudi-led coalition sent its warplanes to strike the ship after receiving information that it was carrying arms for the insurgents.

It did not mention where the ship had come from but noted that the Houthis and their allies have not issued any statement about the attack.

Coalition jets have attacked several naval targets off Yemen to stop Iran from sending weapons to its coup allies in the conflict-battered Arab country.

In his most conciliatory comments yet after Tuesday's incident, Erdogan said: "I'm really saddened by the incident. We wish it had never happened, but it happened. I hope something like this doesn't happen again.

"We hope that the issue between us and Russia does not escalate any further, become corrosive and have dire consequences in the future," Erdogan told supporters in western Balikesir province.

Erdogan also renewed a call to Russian President Vladimir Putin

"What we tell Russia is 'Let's resolve this issue between ourselves and within its boundaries. Let's not make others happy by destroying our whole relationship," Erdogan said.

"Russia is important for Turkey as much as Turkey is important for Russia. Both countries cannot afford to give up on each other."

Putin, who has branded the incident a "stab in the back", is yet to agree to talks.

Russia announced it was halting a visa-free regime for Turkish visitors, after threatening a raft of retaliatory economic measures to punish the NATO member state.
