PA orders Hamas TV off the air in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Directive seen as part of an effort to crack down on incitement

The Paleostinian Authority on Monday instructed its broadcasting authority to indefinitely suspend Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,'s Al-Aqsa TV programming in the West Bank.

"The PA's security apparatuses have announced officially to all broadcasters in the West Bank that they are forbidden from airing the Al-Aqsa network," Hamas confirmed in a statement on Facebook.

Israeli watchdog groups have long-claimed Al-Aqsa TV promotes terrorist activity, teaches anti-Semitism and incites hatred of Israelis, especially in its programming for children.

Monday's move was seen as an attempt by Prime Minister the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
to tackle Hamas "incitement," and in so doing to curb the almost-daily festivities between Israeli soldiers and Paleostinian rioters.

Champ's anti-Islamic State coalition crumbles as Arab allies abandon effort
[Wash Times] The major Arab powers once deemed essential to the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq have largely pulled back from the U.S.-led military campaign, undercutting the Obama administration's claims about the depth and reach of the coalition it has built with allies in the region.

The Obama administration consistently touts the "65-nation coalition" it has assembled to fight the group also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh -- but critics say that fewer than a dozen nations today are contributing anything significant to the campaign.

And behind closed doors, administration and military officials admit that air support from such key Arab allies as Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) -- something the White House once touted as an unprecedented and essential part of the coalition -- has all but evaporated.

#2  It is hard for Arab states to fight SISI when most of their citizens are highly sympathetic with SISI and somewhat hostile to their own leadership. The Arab allies were probably hoping the Western powers would destroy SISI for them so they could blame the west for all their ills and continue business as usual.

NWSA votes to join international BDS movement
The National Women's Studies Association voted to join the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel.

The vote on the BDS referendum passed 653 to 86 at the organization's annual conference earlier this month, the association announced last week. Slightly more than a third of the members voted.

The recommendation to join the BDS movement was sponsored by Feminists for Justice In/For Palestine, an ad hoc group founded at the studies association's annual conference in Puerto Rico in 2014.

Champ Signs NRA-Backed Bill Expanding Military-to-Civilian Gun Sales
[Breitbart] On November 25, President Obama signed the NRA-backed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) containing provisions to protect lead ammo, expand military-to-civilian gun sales, and give local commanders the ability to allow base personnel to be armed.

The latter provision came in response to the July 16 attack on defenseless military personnel in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The provision expanding military-to-civilian gun sales means the Army's "excess M1911A1 pistols" can now be sold to civilians via the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). That program was long known as being a way for civilians to get the classic M1 Garand military rifle, and will now be a way to get the equally classic and historical .45 auto.

Expanding military-to-civilian sales also saves tax dollars in that it currently costs "approximately $200,000 a year" for the Army to store the handguns "in a warehouse."

Syrians are a Terror Threat, Here are the Numbers
[SultanKnish] Syria is a terror state. It didn't become that way overnight because of the Arab Spring or the Iraq War.

Its people are not the victims of American foreign policy, Islamic militancy or any of the other fashionable excuses. They supported Islamic terrorism. Millions of them still do.

They are not the Jews fleeing a Nazi Holocaust. They are the Nazis trying to relocate from a bombed out Berlin.

Head of Joint (Arab) List to hold landmark talks with White House leaders
What odds he is invited to dinner with the president afterward? You will recall, dear Reader, that the Arab List, an innovation of the last Israeli election, was coaxed into being by political advisors previously used by the American Democratic Party and funded by the American embassy in Israel.
[IsraelTimes] Arab-Israeli politician Ayman Odeh will be first prominent rep of Israel's Arabic community to engage in high-profile talks in Washington

The chairman of the Joint Arab List party in Israel will hold groundbreaking talks during a US visit with senior White House and State Department officials.

Knesset member Ayman Odeh, who begins his visit Monday night, will be the first prominent representative of Israel's Arabic community to engage in high-profile diplomatic talks in Washington, according to a report on Ynet.

Along with the talks, Odeh will attend an event in his honor hosted by billionaire S. Daniel Abraham, a champion of coexistence between Arabs and Jews. The politician will also speak with media outlets such as The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
and the Washington Post, and meet with civil rights leaders at the Atlanta church of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

"The issues that matter to Israel's Arab citizens are hardly represented in the international conversation," Odeh told Ynet. "I'm going to the US to bring that voice with me to influencing sources and opinion leaders, and to create contacts and connections with the progressive and civil rights movements."

The Joint Arab List, a combination of the Arab parties in Israel, was formed in the lead-up to elections in March and is now the nation's third largest political party.

Odeh has been criticized for failing to condemn Paleostinian attacks on Israeli civilians in recent months.

Asked on Israeli radio in October if throwing rocks is a legitimate form of protest, he said, "I always blame the occupation for being guilty. I cannot tell the nation how to struggle, where and at which target to throw the rock."

Iraq
Abadi: Iraq Has Sufficient Forces to Fight ISIL
[ALMANAR.LB] Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said Monday that Iraq has sufficient forces to fight the ISIL group, after American senators called for more US troops to be deployed to the country.

"The Iraqi government welcomes an increase in support in weapons and training and (air) support from international partners in our war against ISIL," Abadi said in a statement.

But "we confirm that Iraq has enough men and resolve to defeat ISIL and other similar criminal groups," he said.

Abadi's remarks came a day after American senators John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
and Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO...
advocated an increase in US forces in Iraq to around 10,000 from the current cap of 3,550.

"The prime minister... said he wanted more American presence here," McCain, the chair of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, told journalists in Baghdad.

And Graham, a member of the same committee, said: "I talked with the prime minister -- would you like more American help? The answer was yes."

He added: "If you went up to 10,000, you're not gonna get any pushback from the Iraqis."

"I mean the difference between 3,500 and 10,000 is meaningless politically inside the country."

#4  For the elderly amongst us, I used to play play Avalon Hills war game,France: 1940, if played in a realistic rules way the French didn't have a chance and the British are very lucky to get away. The units morale was too brittle, the leadership lacking (with the notable exception of DeGaulles armour end brigade) to stand for more than a day or two. The French player can win by points, holding out a little in each scenario, but not in a real way. I would love to see that game brought into the computer along with panzer-bush, but keeping die-rolls and deep rule sets, just using the computer for the maps and bookkeeping.

Yemeni Army & Committees Control Three Saudi Bordering Sites
[ALMANAR.LB] The Yemeni Army and popular committees managed on Monday to regain control over three Saudi military sites in the bordering area of Al-Shurfa which overlooks the city of Najran, seizing a large number of vehicles and much weaponry.

The Yemeni forces also controlled a number of Saudi sites and villages in the bordering area of Jizan, killing and injuring scores of Saudi soldiers.

The Saudi warplanes continued on Monday targeting the various Yemeni cities, leaving scores of deaders and causing much destruction.

Russia Arms Su-34s with Air-to-Air Missiles in Syria for First Time
[ALMANAR.LB] Russian Su-34 bombers, additionally equipped with air-to-air missiles, have set out on their first mission in Syria, said Igor Klimov, front man for the Russian Air Force.

"Today, Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers have made their first sortie equipped not only with high explosive aviation bombs and hollow charge bombs, but also with short- and medium-range air-to-air missiles," Klimov said.

"The planes are equipped with missiles for defensive purposes," he added.

The missiles have target-seeking devices and are "capable of hitting air targets within a 60km radius," he said.

Turkish F-16s shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber operating in Syria on November 24, with Ankara claiming that the warplane had violated Turkish airspace. Moscow has rejected the claims, saying that according to its military intelligence the Su-24 never left Syrian airspace.

Bomb disposal pros get top training at Nowshera's explosive handling school
[DAWN] PESHAWAR: Zameer Khan's voice remains steady as he recounts the number of bombs he has defused in his lifetime.

"Thirty-seven bombs and Improvised Explosive Devises," he says.

There is an almost defiant indifference in the ex-serviceman's tone. It does not for a moment indicate the formidable line of work he has chosen; a job that requires him to methodically approach a ticking bomb when everyone is running away from it.

Lionhearted Khan first learnt how to dismantle a bomb when he was in the Pakistain Army. After 20 years in service, he is now enrolled at Pakistain's first police school of explosive handling (PSEH) in Nowshera taking a refresher course to hone his skill.

Despite his years of experience, at PSEH he has a chance to enhance his knowledge as modern war tools evolve. He can learn about circuits -- the latest bombs -- and how to battle the "technological war."

The explosive handling school, which launched operations in February this year, provides training on the latest equipment and technology to detect and safely diffuse bombs. It is a major step towards improving the safety of civilians as well as that of Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) personnel.

Tunisia Names Three Suspects Wanted over Bus Bombing
[ALMANAR.LB] Tunisia has identified three suspects wanted over Tuesday's suicide kaboom that killed 12 presidential guards and is offering a financial reward for information leading to their arrest.

The interior ministry issued a statement on Friday evening identifying the desperados as Hassan Ben Khalifa Bouchiba, Houcine Ben Khalifa Bouchiba and Walid Ben Mohammed Ali Yousfi.

A preliminary probe has proven that these "terrorist elements... (are) linked to the kaboom on a bus of the presidential guard," the statement said.

The ministry also promised "an important financial reward" for "anyone providing information leading to the arrest" of the three suspects.

Tuesday's suicide kaboom in the centre of Tunis was claimed by the ISIL group and authorities have identified the bomber as a 26-year-old Tunisian travelling salesman Houssam Abdelli.

The interior ministry has said that dozens of suspects have been locked away
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
since the attack.

ISIL also grabbed credit for two attacks earlier this year at the National Bardo Museum in Tunis and on a hotel near the Mediterranean resort of Sousse that killed a total of 60 people, all but one of them foreign tourists.

The secretary of state for national security, Rafik Chelly, told private Mosaique FM radio that all these attacks were planned in neighboring Libya.

Four APS terrorists to be sent to gallows
PESHAWAR: Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif on Monday signed the black warrants of four terrorists involved in the Army Public School attack, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The army chief signed the black warrants of Maulvi Abdus Salam, Hazrat Ali, Mujeebur Rehman and Sabeel alias Yahya nearly a year after the horrific massacre. All the four convicts were active members of Toheed wal Jihad Group (TWJ)

Militants stormed the school on Dec 16, 2014, killing at least 144 people ? most of whom were children. In the wake of the APS carnage, military courts were set up for trying terrorists under amendments made to the constitution and the Army Act. This was the first sentence approved by the army chief following the Supreme Court’s August 2015 judgement giving legal cover to the establishment of military courts.

Political parties had unanimously agreed over the issue of setting up military courts to tackle terrorism cases in the country following the gruesome attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar in December 2014, following which parliament passed the 21st constitutional amendment in Jan 2015 to set up the said courts.

President Mamnoon Hussain had promulgated an ordinance further revising the recently amended Army Act to ostensibly aid the functioning of military courts by allowing for trials in camera, ie without the presence of the public or the media, and over video link if necessary. The Supreme Court in a majority ruling upheld the establishment of military courts in Pakistan.

Petitions challenging the 21st amendment were dismissed in August this year in a majority 11-6 vote of the 17-member SC bench. In a 14-3 majority vote, petitions challenging the 18th amendment were also dismissed by the bench.

Swabi polio district coordinator shot dead
PESHAWAR: Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) District Coordinator Dr. Yaqoob was shot dead and his driver injured when unidentified assailants opened fired on his car in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Swabi district on Monday morning.

District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi Javed Iqbal Wazir said that Dr. Yaqoob was on the his way to office when unknown motorcyclists shot at his car near Swabi's Zaida Bypass area.

Polio workers have long been targeted due to rumours that the polio immunisation drive is a front for espionage or a conspiracy to sterilise Muslims. The rumours have made inhabitants of lesser-developed parts of the country more wary of allowing immunisation.

These claims were propagated by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, who stepped up attacks targeting polio immunisation teams after Pakistani doctor Shakeel Afridi was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency to set up a hepatitis immunisation drive as part of efforts to track down Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden.

Pakistan remains one of only two countries on the World Health Organisation's (WHO) list of polio-endemic countries.

Although the number of polio cases in Pakistan during 2015 is reported to be 40 ─ down from 224 during the previous year according to the polio control cell ─ the country has been struggling to combat the number of refusals it receives, the spread of polio via air and land routes as well as what appears to be the declining quality of the immunisation campaign.

ISIS troops hammer Syrian troops near Aleppo
ARA News

ALEPPO – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) waged Monday an offensive on locations for the Syrian army forces and allied troops in the vicinity of a key air base east of Aleppo in northern Syria, causing heavy losses in the latter’s ranks, local activists reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, media activist Abdul Rahman Tahi confirmed that ISIS fighters targeted positions of pro-Assad forces south of the Kweires air base with a car bomb, causing casualties in the army’s ranks.

“The explosion was followed by fierce clashes between the two sides, during which four locations fell to ISIS near the Kweires air base,” he added.

“ISIS militants carried out another car bomb attack at a security center adjacent to the town of Kaskis in the vicinity of Kweires.”

“Subsequent to fierce clashes between the two parties, ISIS captured the town of Kaskis,” Tahi told ARA News. “There were casualties on both sides.”

Military sources in Aleppo reported the death and injury of dozens of pro-regime forces in the ISIS-led attacks near Kweires.

In the meantime, the Syrian army bombed the road linking the towns of Deir Hafer and Kaskis in a bid to impede ISIS progress in the area.

“However, fierce clashes continue in Aleppo’s east as ISIS extremists take advantage of the bad weather conditions that prevent warplanes from targeting their positions near the air base,” the source added.

On Saturday, Syrian army officials said that pro-regime forces, supported by a Russian air cover, regained the town of Kaskis and the Agoula village (60 km east of Aleppo) along with large swaths of agricultural land, beside several tunnels from ISIS.

The areas recaptured by the army forces are located east of the Kweires air base, which was seized by ISIS on Nov. 10.

Last month, the regime’s army forces were able to break the a one-year siege imposed on its troops inside the Kweires air base by the terror group after launching a major military operation in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo. The hardline group has been striving to retake the air base for its strategic location.

Unofficial results pour in, PTI dominates Islamabad
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: With the unofficial results start pouring in, Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) seems to be taking the lead with the party's candidates winning at six wards in Islamabad's Union Council-40, DawnNews reported on Monday.

As it was being anticipated, a large number of independent candidates also won -- with the PML-N trailing behind the PTI. The Pakistain People's Party (PPP), however, was nowhere in the competition.

Apart from sweeping the polls in UC-40, PTI secured chairman seats from UC-50, UC-36 and UC 27 while in UC-30, PTI won all seats except that of chairman.

PML-N has secured chairman seats in UC-43, UC-41, UC-33 and UC-32 so far, according to the unofficial and unconfirmed results.

Voting concluded peacefully in the federal capital on Monday amid low voter turnout and high security as residents of the federal capital went to the polls to elect local representatives for the first time under the newly-minted Islamabad Local Government Act, 2015.

Bangladesh
Pakistan denies links to 1971 atrocities
[Dhaka Tribune] Pakistain has denied its involvement in crimes and atrocities during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

It yesterday summoned the acting Bangladesh high commissioner in Islamabad to convey its rejection of what it said "baseless and unfounded assertions" of Bangladesh against Pakistain.
"It wuz somevbody else."
"It is regrettable that attempts have been made by the government of Bangladesh to malign Pakistain, despite our ardent desire to develop brotherly relations with Bangladesh," the Pakistain Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued yesterday.

On November 23, Bangladesh had summoned Pakistain High Commisionner in Dhaka Shuja Alam and formally protested a Pakistain Foreign Ministry statement issued after the execution of war criminals Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Muzahid.

The Bangladesh high commissioner was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said a blurb of the Pakistain Foreign Ministry.

Pakistain believes that the peoples of both countries not only want to maintain but also further strengthen the bonds of friendship and brotherhood. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
sadly, the government of Bangladesh does not seem to respect these sentiments, said the release.

Pakistain reiterates its desire for further enhancing relations with Bangladesh, because it believes that the hearts of the people of Pakistain beat in unison with the people of Bangladesh.

It is important for the two countries not to forget the role played by their people in the struggle for the establishment of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the South Asian sub-continent. It is, therefore, imperative to move forward in the spirit of goodwill, friendship and harmony for the collective good of the peoples of Pakistain and Bangladesh.

The statement claimed that the 1974 tripartite agreement is the bedrock of relations between the two countries.

As regards the Bangladesh government's contention that Pakistain presents a misleading interpretation of the Agreement of 1974, it needs to be emphasised that, as part of the agreement, the government of Bangladesh had "decided not to proceed with the trials as an act of clemency."

Afghanistan
Spread Of Polio To End By Mid-2016: Official
[Tolo News] Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Monday it hopes to eradicate polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
by the middle of next year as 2015 has seen the lowest number of reported cases to date.

This comes after a scare on Sunday where health officials suspected 75 cases of the virus in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
. However the children thought to have contracted the disease were tested and results came back as negative, officials confirmed Monday.

But this year, 17 polio cases have been registered - a major decline against last year's recordings of 38, said Hedayatollah Stanikzai, an advisor to the ministry of public health.

This decline shows the polio immunization campaigns being conducted in the country are starting to show results.

The Ministry of Public Health has said that concerted efforts have been made to control the spread of virus in the country, adding that Afghanistan will hopefully be a polio free country within four years.

But Stanikzai was a little more positive and said: "God willing, we will overcome the spread of the polio virus in the country by June 2016 and this is a national commitment," Stanikzai said.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
blood tests of suspected patients are sent to Pakistain laboratories for testing. Health officials want this changed.

"We send lab samples to Pakistain, but now we are concerned, we made a request to World Health Organization to send the samples to another country," he said.

The statement comes a day before the launch of a major polio immunization campaign in south and western provinces. The ministry of health says that children under the age of five will also be vaccinated against polio in insecure regions.

"We do not have concerns that some children could be deprived of vaccination, we are determined to vaccinate them all," head of Helmand health department Abdul Ahad Hazeem said.

Statistics of ministry of public health reveals that eight polio cases in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
, one in Helmand, one in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, four in Farah, one in Nimroz and one in Faryab were recorded this year.

Police Detain Two For Murder Of Asia TV Boss
[Tolo News] Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
Police have detained the brother-in-law and one other in connection with the shooting in Kabul of Amanullah Ataee, head of Asia television, said Kabul police Monday.

Ataee was the head of Asia TV an independent television channel. He was bumped off outside his house in Kart-e-Naw in Kabul city on Sunday night.

Ataee's family said that he was killed by relatives.

"We have detained two people in connection with the murder. One of them is named Ajmal and both of them are in police custody," said Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi.

Meanwhile the victim's brother Abdul Qadir Ataee, blamed family for the murder.

"Those who killed my brother are family and we told the police who they are. We ask the police to arrest them and punish them," said the victim's brother Abdul Qadir Ataee.

Amanullah Ataee's family called on government to ensure justice is carried out and said that if government does not take the matter seriously they will take action.

This is the second attack in the past week in Kabul against public figures. Last week two men on a cycle of violence opened fire on Ahmad Saeedi a well-known political analyst. He was shot in the head but is in a stable condition in hospital.

Putin claims Turkey shot down Russian jet to protect oil trade with Isil
[Telegraph] Vladimir Putin on Monday accused Turkey of secretly purchasing oil from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), and claimed that the decision to shoot down a Russian warplane last week was motivated by the desire to protect the flow of oil from the terrorist group.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, denied the allegations and said he would resign if it could be proved that Turkey had bought oil from Isil.

Turkey and Russia have been engaged in a bitter war of words since Turkey shot down a Russian jet near the Syrian border on November 24.

Mr Putin and Mr Erdogan traded accusations as they took their respective turns at the podium at the summit on climate change in Paris.

Iraq
Former Military Intel Chief: Iraq War Was A 'Failure' That Helped Create ISIS
[Huffpoo] Retired Lt. General Michael Flynn, former U.S. special forces commander in Iraq and Afghanistan who was the country's highest ranking military intelligence official, says that the George W. Bush administration's Iraq war was a tremendous blunder that helped to create the self-proclaimed Islamic State, or ISIS.

"It was a huge error," Flynn said about the Iraq war in a detailed interview with German newspaper Der Spiegel published Sunday.

"As brutal as Saddam Hussein was, it was a mistake to just eliminate him," Flynn went on to say. "The same is true for Moammar Gadhafi and for Libya, which is now a failed state. The historic lesson is that it was a strategic failure to go into Iraq. History will not be and should not be kind with that decision."

When told by Der Spiegel reporters Matthias Gebauer and Holger Stark that the Islamic State would not "be where it is now without the fall of Baghdad," Flynn, without reservations, said: "Yes, absolutely."

He was enabled by the deliberate indifference of President Obama when Obama first signaled his weakness by caving to Maliki on the detainee Daqduq issue. Sensing this weakness Maliki followed up by telling Obama that he was going to arrest the Sunni VP and his body guards... Pissed off the Sunni and Maliki reaped the consequences...

BTW, IIRC the historian AJP Taylor blamed the US for WWII cause we didn't hang around, join the League of Nations, etc at the end of WWI. Just another version of that gambit.

Remember we sat on the Germans and Japanese many years afterward and had to deal with Soviet subversion at the same time. Someone this time didn't have the patience.

#11  I wanted to believe that Bush was right. Back then I wanted to believe in something. I still do. I still think maybe it was right to kill Saddam because he took a shot at Bush Sr. and tin pot dictators the world over need to know that taking a shot at POTUS will get them killed. Besides, after 9/11 we had to take it out on somebody. Saddam was handy.

And maybe it was a noble experiment to see if democracy could actually take root in an Arab/Muslim nation. So now we know better.

Bush's mistake was the assumption that his successor would maintain a military presence there. He should have factored into his calculations the irresponsibility of Democrats. And Iraq is not Germany or Japan. They just don't have that kind of character.

But this point I no longer care whether the Arab world is stable or not. Let them figure it out. They're not worth any more or our blood and treasure. Just keep the damn refugees out of here.

#17  "I feel like the will to *win* vanished far too early. The destruction of war should have continued until the will to resist us ceased to exist. Only then would a democracy had any chance to emerge."

Ditto. My 2c, two crucial matters GWB and his orbit failed to address:

1- They failed to attack Islam as the political movement masquerading as a religion that it is

2- They failed to bring the nation as a whole into the fight, resolved to compel the enemy to surrender (renounce his will to aggress) and occupy his heartland, Iraq, until his women share the rights, status and activities of full citizenship and his men let their children grow in peace and quiet.

They were right to hit Saddam. He was behind both attacks on the WTC as well as the DOD and anthrax attacks. But they were not serious about the larger enemy or the depth and breadth of his order of battle. They essayed to fight a global war against an enemy they failed to define -- but knew they were fighting -- with < 1% of their population, encouraging > 99% to live unconnected to the < 1% who were fighting, as if at peace. This is called being not serious.

GWB is a good man who had numerous bad advisers and as POTUS was unequal to the responsibilities powers of being threw at him.

My 2c.

And here, in a nutshell, is the past, current and future problem.

The larger enemy is Islam and all it entails. The west will not say that and the elites in there land of pink unicorns will never even see it.

Short of glazing the Muslim world I don't know what can be done but I'm sure that if we had the will we would find a way. Whatever way was found would require a clear statement of who the enemy is....and it ain't "terrorism".

Police uncover West Bank firearm trafficking ring
[IsraelTimes] Suspected ringleader identified as Israeli Arab man, 45, from East Jerusalem, arrested while carrying handguns, Kalashnikov

Police tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
an Israeli Arab on charges of illegally smuggling "large quantities" of firearms, it was revealed Sunday morning.

The man, identified as a 45-year-old resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem, was under investigation for several months, police said.

The central investigative unit of the Judea and Samaria Police -- the police division in the West Bank -- employed undercover officers to collect evidence of the trafficking, which a police statement said involved "various types of weapons, and in large quantities."

He was arrested on November 19 in a joint operation in Shuafat between Border Police forces and a police SWAT team.

At the time of his arrest, police found him carrying a bag with three handguns, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, ammunition and replacement parts for various other firearms.

The suspect confessed to criminal masterminding the weapons trafficking ring, police said. His remand was extended until December 1.

Eight additional suspects were arrested for their part in the ring, and more arrests are expected.

Police did not indicate whether the firearms were being sold to criminal groups or terror organizations.

The Grand Turk
Report: PKK Leader Urges U.S., EU to Broker Peace with Turkey
[AnNahar] Kurdish rebel leader said Sunday that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has slipped into a civil war with the Kurds, as he urged the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and the United States to step up as peace brokers to end the conflict.

"Military tanks, artillery and helicopters are being deployed in the south of Turkey against the Kurdish civilian population. The situation is the worst in decades," Cemil Bayik, one of the leaders of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) told Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

"The Turkish government say: this war will last until all Kurdish fighters surrender or are killed. Therefore I say that yes, we Kurds are once again in a civil war with Turkey," said Bayik, speaking at his group's stronghold of northern Iraq's Qandil mountains.

Bayik along with Murat Karayilan is considered the PKK's top commander on the ground in the absence of its tossed in the calaboose

chief Abdullah Ocalan.

Southeast Turkey has been rocked by a new wave of unrest that has left several hundred people dead since a two-year-old truce between Ankara and the PKK fell apart in July.

The PKK tore up the unilateral ceasefire it had declared in 2013 after Turkey began waging a relentless campaign against the group in southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq.

"If the military act against the Kurdish civilian population, then we will defend the Kurds. That is our right and our responsibility," said Bayik.

At the same time, the PKK leader said he still believes in a political solution out of the crisis.

"We don't want to fight anymore. We want political solutions. For that we need a peace broker, a third party," he said. "Therefore we are asking the United States or Germany as part of the EU, to take on this task."

Both the U.S. and the EU have put the PKK on their list of terror organizations.

But Bayik said it was time to review that listing, as he underlined the role that his group has played in the fight against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. jihadists.

"Since we began battling IS on several fronts and freed many people, the people in Europe have begun to understand the real nature of the PKK," he said. "The time has come to finally remove PKK from the terror list."

IS Executes 3,500 in Syria since Declaring 'Caliphate'
[AnNahar] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group has executed more than 3,500 people in Syria, including nearly 2,000 civilians, since declaring its "caliphate" in June last year, a monitor said Sunday.

In the last month alone IS executed 53 people -- including 35 civilians -- in areas it controls in Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The new figures from the Britannia-based Observatory bring to 3,591 the number of people executed by IS in Syria since it declared its Islamic "caliphate" after seizing control of large parts of the country.

The new toll includes 1,945 civilians, including 103 women and 77 children, with civilians defined as those who are not taking part in the fighting.

Some were executed for alleged witchcraft, homosexuality and collaborating with the U.S.-led coalition that has been bombarding IS in Syria since September 2014.

Members of Sunni Shaitat tribe account for around half of the civilians killed. IS killed 930 members of the clan in the northeastern Deir Ezzor province last year after they opposed the Death Eater Sunni Muslim group.

The monitor also documented 247 IS executions of rival rebels and Kurdish fighters, as well as the executions of 975 members of regime forces.

IS has also executed 415 of its own members it accused of crimes including spying, many of them captured as they were trying to desert the group, according to the Observatory, which relies on a network of activists, medical staff and fighters on the ground.

IS controls large swathes of Syria and neighboring Iraq.

In Syria, it controls areas in the Homs and Hama provinces in the center, Deir Ezzor and Hassakeh in the northeast, as well as Raqa and Aleppo in the north.

The jihadist group counts tens of thousands of fighters and carries out abductions, rapes, beheadings and stonings in the areas under its influence.

The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
has accused it of "crimes against humanity."

More than 250,000 people have been killed and more than four million have fled the country since the Syrian conflict erupted in 2011.

The army chief signed the black warrants of Maulvi Abdus Salam, Hazrat Ali, Mujeebur Rehman and Sabeel alias Yahya nearly a year after the horrific massacre.

Militants stormed the school on Dec 16, 2014, killing at least 144 people ─ most of whom were children.

In the wake of the APS carnage, military courts were set up for trying holy warriors under amendments made to the Constitution and the Army Act.

This was the first sentence approved by the army chief following the Supreme Court's August 2015 judgement giving legal cover to the establishment of military courts.

The ISPR had earlier released the following details of the convicts and the crimes for which they were sentenced:

Bangladesh
18 given death penalty for murders in Three districts
[Dhaka Tribune] A total of 18 people were condemned to death yesterday in three murder cases in three districts.

Eleven of the 18 were given the death penalty for killing Jubo League
... the youth wing of the Bangla Awami League...
leader Jalal Uddin Sarker in Gazipur in 2003.

Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan of Gazipur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court 1 pronounced the verdict. The court also fined the convicts Tk10,000 each.

Milon Sarker, elder brother of the victim, said the convicts hacked Jalal to death in broad daylight when he was talking to his friends at a field near Bolkhela Bazar in Kapasia upazila on August 17, 2003.

In Narayanganj, four men were sentenced to death after a court found them guilty of killing a 13-year-old boy in 2014.

The convicts -- Saifur Rahman alias Saiful, 23, Tofazzal Hossain, 22, Jamal Hossain, 22, and Shahjahan alias Jibon, 21 -- were also sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Tk50,000 each on abduction charges in the case.

Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Miazi Mohammad Shahidul Islam handed down the verdict.

Narayanganj court's Additional Public Prosecutor MA Rahim said the four men were sentenced as their involvement in the killing of Rakibul Hasan Imon, son of Nuru Miah of Kamtal Malibhita area in Narayanganj, was proved.

Imon, a ninth-grader at a school in Sonargaon, was kidnapped on January 29 last year over previous enmity.

APP Rahim said the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk10 lakh but the boy was killed on the day of his abduction as the money was not paid.

After the murder, Imon's body was dumped at a poultry farm in Madanpur Malibagh area.

Imon's mother Ferdousi Begum later lodged a case accusing five people of killing her son.

The accused were detained and police recovered Imon's body a week later based on information obtained during interrogation.

Al Amin, the fifth accused in the case, was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years on May 14 this year.

Also, three persons were given the death sentence by Sylhet's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal for abducting and killing nine-year-old boy Abu Sayeed in March this year.

The convicts are Nurul Islam Rakib, 26, general secretary of Olama League's Sylhet district unit, Ebadur Rahman alias Putul, 24, former constable of Sylhet Airport cop shoppe, and Ataur Rahman alias Geda, 33, a police informer.

Judge Abdur Rashid also fined the three Tk2 lakh (Tk1 lakh for abduction and Tk1 lakh for murder) each, and acquitted Mahib Hossain Masum as charges against him could not be proved.

All three convicts confessed to the murder, saying that they kidnapped the boy for ransom.

Special Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Abdul Malek said the convicts would have to serve two more years (one year for abduction and one year for murder) in jail upon failure to pay the fine.

Sayeed's father Abdul Matin said he was content with the verdict. He also demanded that the verdict be executed soon.

Sayeed, a fourth-grader, was kidnapped from Sylhet's Rainagar area on March 11 this year and police recovered his body two days later from the attic of Ebadur's house.

The boy was killed as he could recognise the abductors.

DB: Foreign intelligence agency pulling JMB strings
[Dhaka Tribune] In what sounds like a scene from a James Bond film, Sherlocks say a foreign intelligence agency provided a local Islamist bad boy outfit with a spy telephone to evade increased surveillance operations by local law enforcement agencies.

A high official of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, asking not to be named, yesterday confirmed the development to the Dhaka Tribune.

He added that the recent bombing of the Hussaini Dalan, an important Shia shrine, was carried out by banned krazed killer outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
The JMB is said to be the youth front of Al Mujahideen, the parent organization that began working toward establishing Bangladesh as an Islamic state in the mid 1990s which remains obscure even today. Other organizations, such as Jama'atul Jihad, JMB, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), Hizbut Tawhid, Tawhidi Janata, Islami Jubo Shangha, Islami Shangha, Al Falah A'am Unnayan Shanstha and Shahadat-e al Hiqma are believed to be part of the Al Mujahideen network. The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB) according to the instructions of the unnamed foreign intelligence agency.

The DB source said a foreign agency was definitely involved in the attack and added that Sherlocks were searching for the involvement of other groups.

The link between a foreign intelligence outfit and the JMB was discovered after the arrest of four JMB men last night and the analysis of their spy cell phone records.

The arrestees have been identified as Md Idrish Sheikh, Md Makbul Sharif, Md Salam and Md Mostofa Zaman.

"After conducting a drive in the Khilgaon and airport areas, DB tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
the four men last night and recovered a huge stash of jihadi literature, Indian, Pak and Bahraini currency, a spy mobile phone, two Pak and one Bangladeshi passport," Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of DB police, said.

Addressing a briefing at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's media and community centre, Monirul said whenever the JMB operatives communicated with each other using the spy phone, a copy of their voice and image was automatically sent to foreign intelligence officials.

"Idrish Sheikh used the spy mobile and we have found evidence of a relationship between him and a female official of a foreign embassy in Bangladesh," Monirul said.

Monirul declined to disclose the name of either the foreign intelligence agency or the foreign embassy implicated in the investigation.

Monirul, also the DB chief, said Idrish went to India with the aid of brokers in 1985 before travelling onward to Pakistain. He received Pak citizenship after marrying a Pak woman in 1990.

Idrish became involved in Pak politics and took part in national elections there in 2002 under the banner of the "Pak Muslim Alliance." He lost the election.

Idrish returned to Bangladesh in 2007 and, after providing a false address in Bagerhat, procured a new Bangladeshi passport, Monirul said.

Idrish later began working with the JMB. An analysis of his passport shows that he entered Pakistain at least 48 times over the last two years, Monirul said.

JMB member Makbul Sharif also has connections to Pakistain. He went to Pakistain through brokers in 1985 and repeatedly visited the country as a cloth trader.

"He was a JMB operative working in the guise of a trader," Monirul said, adding that Makbul used a fake passport to visit Pakistain.

During his visits, Makbul established good relations with a Rohingya man living in Pakistain, Abdul Kuddus.

Makbul helped Rohingya based in Bangladesh by providing fake passports and helping to send them to Pakistain, Canada and Australia.

The funds he collected for these activities went into the JMB's coffers, Monirul said.

Of the two other arrestees, Salam lived in the Bihari camp in Dhaka and also visited Pakistain. Mostofa worked as an assistant traffic inspector for Pakistain International Airlines.

Monirul said they not only worked for the JMB but operated as currency traders, using their profits to fund krazed killer activities.

Asked about the recent attacks on the Shia community, Monirul said the attacks were designed to create uncertainty in the country. He said a foreign power was behind the attack.

Police have filed two cases with Airport police and another with Khilgaon cop shoppe against the four arrestees. The four were later placed in court where police sought a 10-day police remand. The court granted three days' remand for each of the arrestees.

...a rebel group in southern Syria. They gained attention when they abducted 21 Filipino UN soldiers in early March 2013, releasing them on 10 March 2013. The group has been accused by other Syrian rebel groups of being affiliated with the Islamic State, which it denies. Their leader is Abo Ali al-Baridi, who denies they're takfiris. They just want to apply God’s rule and Sharia. They have been attacked by al-Nusra and other groups allied with it, probably because they're so pious...
Brigade, a key ISIS militia known for its bloody and vicious hold over parts of the Golan Heights. Six of the group's top men were killed, including Muhammad "Abu Ali" al-Baridi, the shadowy head of the group who went by the nickname "The Uncle."

Al-Nusra Front, Al Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, quickly took credit, gloating on Twitter about the "heroic" attack.

"The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
[ISIS], that controls the closest area to the Israel border in the Syrian Golan Heights, suffered a severe blow and lost its entire top command in the area in one fell swoop," noted Alex Fishman, a veteran military correspondent for Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot.

JUI-F pledges full support to army against any external aggression
[DAWN] Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
, addressing what appeared to be one of the biggest gatherings organised by the party in Sindh, on Sunday threw his party's weight behind the army chief "in defending every inch of the country's territory" in the face of a threat from the US and its allies.

Besides him, a host of leaders including Senate Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidery, Maulana Saeed Yousuf, Maulana Mohammed Amjad Khan, Syed Salman Gillani, Nayab Sarkash Sindhi (of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz), Qari Mohammed Usman, Malik Sikandar (from Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
), Rashid Mehmood Soomro and Nasir Mehmood Soomro spoke to the participants at the gathering titled 'Shaheed-e-Islam conference' held to pay tribute to JUI-F leader Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro on his first death anniversary.

The conference was held in the Peoples Stadium which was packed with JUI-F leaders, activists and supporters who came from across the country. Delegations from from other countries including the United Kingdom, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Yemen, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
and Dubai also participated in the conference.

The JUI-F chief paid tribute to Dr Soomro for his services to Islam, the Ummah and Pakistain, and strongly condemned his liquidation which, he said, was part of the West's conspiracy to replace Muslim rulers with liberal ones around the world. He also made mention of terrorist attacks on himself, Akram Khan Durrani and other JUI-F leaders as well as Learned Elders of Islam over the past few years in the country.

Bangladesh
Harmony-loving Bogra Shias ignored police warning
[Dhaka Tribune] Police had sensed a possible attack on the Shia Muslims living in several villages in Bogra's Shibganj upazila after the Hussaini Dalan attack and asked them to take special security measures.

Police officials told the Dhaka Tribune on Sunday that they had repeatedly asked the Shias to arrange security at their mosques, especially Al Mostafa Jame Mosque in Haripur village where three youths launched a gun attack on November 26.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
the Shia community, which has been living in harmony with others for decades, thought they had no enemy. They were proud of the religious harmony that prevailed in the area since long despite having differences with the Sunnis in terms of rituals.

Muezzin Mozammel Hossain, 70, died and three other devotees were maimed in the attack carried out by three unidentified youths. Officials of the Police Bureau of Investigation have collected blood and other evidence from the spot. They also found eight bullet shells of a 0.22-bore revolver.

Law enforcers and Shia community leaders suspect that members of the banned bully boy group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
(JMB) or some radical Islamists in Qawmi madrasas might have conducted the attack on Thursday.

The police are now interrogating three suspects in the case. One of the trio is a former JMB organiser while another is the principal of a local Qawmi madrasa.

One of the three remanded on Saturday, Anwar Hossain, 48, is a former JMB member. Police said he had been tossed in the clink

earlier in 2010 and came out two years later on bail.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, Jack stuck the cigar in his mouth, stepped onto the gantry, and asked Got a light, Mac?

police yesterday formed a five-strong probe body led by Additional Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman Mandal. Sources said two members of the Special Branch also went to Bogra to assist in the case.

The shooting incident took place one month after the kaboom at Hussaini Dalan that left two people dead and several others injured. Detectives have found the involvement of JMB men in the attack. Police said they had alerted the Shia leaders about a possible attack.

Phone leaks latest act in Rada-Ghariani confrontation
[Libya Herald] The leaking of bugged mobile phone calls is the latest twist in the drama between Rada, the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
"deterrence" force and Grand Mufti Sadeq Ghariani, who has accused them of being "bandidos".

The two calls, posted on social media by a bigwig of the Khalifa Ghwel administration in the capital, both involved the head of the religious endowments (awqaf) ministry's Tripoli office, Mohammed Atkitek. He was nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
last week and held for three days by Rada, which is run by Abdul Raouf Kara.

No date has been given for either call, though they were clearly made before his detention. In the first, Atkitek is said to speaking to Abdulbaset Ghiwla, who is close to Ghariani. In the second Atkitek is apparently talking to his deputy at the ministry, Tarek Al-Daghel.

Ghiwla is heard complaining that the ministry was losing control of some mosques, though he did not say to whom. He urges Atkitek to be more efficient and replace incompetent personnel.

Ghiwla also asks Atkitek if he knows if his deputy has received a new threat from Rada. Atkitek replies that he has no idea but will contact Daghel and find out.

The second call appears to lead on directly from the first. Atkitek asks his deputy if he has been threatened and Daghel says he has. He mentions the name of someone belonging to Rada and uses some choice expressions to describe this individual.

After his release from custody yesterday, Atkitek told the Ghariani's TV channel Tanasah that the men who arrested him had told him that they were Salafists

BlackBerry delays Pakistan shutdown as talks on govt access continue
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: BlackBerry Ltd will delay shutting down its operations in Pakistain until Dec 30 as negotiations continue over government demands for access to users' private data, the company and the telecoms authority said on Monday.

Pakistain Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had in July demanded BlackBerry give it access to its BlackBerry Enterprise Services, which encrypt data such as emails and instant messages, or shut it down by Nov 30.

The PTA on Monday then suggested a one-month extension to that deadline, its chairman Syed Ismail Shah said. BlackBerry also confirmed the extension in a statement on its website.

"The level of access is still under discussion," Shah said. "We can extend the deadline and they can continue to work until then."

Pakistain has said it needs access to maintain its security, with police saying criminals use secure communications like those provided by BlackBerry.

Analysts say the government is increasing electronic surveillance to target activists, politicians and journalists.

Earlier today, BlackBerry Chief Operating Officer Marty Beard confirmed in a statement posted to the smartphone makers' website that the company will not operate in Pakistain after Nov 30.

China Jails 14 over 2013 Pipeline Blast
[ALMANAR.LB] China sentenced 14 people, including local officials and employees at a state company, to prison Monday for their role in a 2013 pipeline blast that killed 63 and injured another 156, state media reported.

The pipeline, owned by a subsidiary of China's largest oil refiner Sinopec, went kaboom! as a result of drilling by maintenance staff.

A court in the eastern city of Qingdao, where the accident occurred, meted out sentences of three to five years to the defendants, the Xinhua state news service reported.

An official inquiry into the blast in 2014 identified negligence as the primary cause of the kaboom, taking Sinopec and the city's government to task for "not identifying and correcting potential safety hazards".

The pipeline itself, according to the probe, was improperly designed and the emergency response was poorly handled.

The disaster's consequences seem to have mostly fallen on low-level babus bureaucrats.

Six municipal officials received jail time, as well as eight people from the Sinopec subsidiary, Xinhua said.

US backed Syrian rebels take area near Shaddadi
ARA News

HASAKAH – The Kurdish-Arab alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported new gains in the southern suburbs of Hasakah, northeast Syria, at the expense of the extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS), heading towards Shaddadi, the second key bastion of ISIS after Raqqa in northeastern Syria, military sources reported on Monday.

Shaddadi, located at a distance of 46km south of Hasakah city, and its environs have been under ISIS control for more than a year and a half.

Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, Kurdish member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Jivan Hasan said their units were able to recapture areas in the vicinity of Rusafa and Qana villages, after seizing the Hasakah southern dam (25 km south Hasakah).

The source pointed out that the joint forces approached the village of al-Daham (6 km south Hasakah) that is located near the ISIS-held district al-Arisha.

“The advance of the SDF forces towards the ISIS’s major stronghold of Shaddadi slowed down due to the land-mines planted by the terror group in the area,” the Kurdish fighter told ARA News.

Last week, the Kurdish YPG forces have fully retaken the military base of al-Melabiya in Hasakah province subsequent to days of clashes with ISIS militants.

Before its withdrawal from al-Melabiya, ISIS has reportedly transferred a large deal of its weapons from the base to the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, an informed source told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

Fighting continues between the U.S.-backed Kurdish-Arab alliance and ISIS extremists on several fronts in the countryside of Hasakah to the south, east and west. The SDF launched an extended anti-ISIS campaign in Hasakah nearly one months ago, and it has been so far able to recapture more than 210 villages and towns in the province.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) include Kurdish forces of the YPG and YPJ, the Syriac Military Council, the Arab tribal group of al-Sanadeed, al-Jazeera brigades, Jaish al-Thuwar group, and of Burkan al-Furat battalion.
