PJ Media: Garage of San Bernardino Shooters Housed IED Factory
San Bernardino's police chief painted a picture of a veritable IED factory in the garage of the husband and wife who shot up a county employees' Christmas party in San Bernardino.

The death toll remains at 14, while the number of wounded ticked up to 21.

Chief Jarrod Barguan said about 300 officers from local, county, state, and federal agencies responded to the attack from Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, who fired between 65 and 75 rounds inside the auditorium of the Inland Regional Center.

Officers found in a bag at the scene three pipe bombs rolled into one remote control car device "that appeared not to have worked in this case," the chief said. "We don't know if they attempted to do that and it failed or what the story is."

"I do not know all the countries he visited," he said, pressed on reports that Farook had made a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, but said the travels did include Pakistan...

CNN cited law enforcement sources as noting Farook was "in touch with people being investigated by the FBI for international terrorism."

What event prompted a default to a secondary target, one where Farook was employed and known. If the workplace was NOT the primary target, was the primary target dumped because the pending attack was discovered? Were the explosives found to be inert...........?

Lots of questions yet to be answered.

#10  Yes, 'Fire and Police' are very likely targets, no, probable targets. But what pushed the terrs off their primary target? I can't believe that the Christmas party was their primary. It had the potential to be a 'game ender' and indeed was.

#11  B, I believe this was Al Qaeda in the planning and the supplying, so the holiday party/meeting was a natural primary target. The IEDs would have been icing on the cake for them had they worked.

Ulster County, NY Sheriff: All Licensed Handgun Owners Should Carry Them
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- All licensed handgun owners in Ulster County should carry their pistols.

That's the message Thursday from the Ulster County Sheriff. Ulster County is located about two hours north of New York City.

"In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to please do so," wrote Sheriff Paul J. Van Blarcum in a Facebook post. "I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon, and knowledgeable of the laws in New York State with regards to carrying a weapon and when it is legal to use it."

Shooter's Neighbor Didn't Report '€˜Suspicious Activity' For Fear Of Being Labeled Racist [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Neighbors of San Bernardino shooter Syed Rizwan Farook told ABC Wednesday that they noticed "suspicious activity" at Farook's home recently, but did not report it for fear of being called racist.

One neighbor noted that police had been called to the Farook household in the past, "maybe for a domestic violence dispute."

Additionally, Aaron Elswick -- a neighbor of Farook's mother in Redland -- said that another neighbor told him "they had I guess been receiving packages -- quite a few packages within a short amount of time, and they were actually doing a lot of work out in the garage."

"She was kind of suspicious and wanted to report it," Elswick explained, "but she said she didn't want to profile."

Government
The Secret Service - An Agency in Crisis
[Wash Post] BLUF: Congressional investigators criticized testimony from former Secret Service director Mark Sullivan after the April 2012 scandal in which 13 agents were implicated in bringing prostitutes back to their hotel before the president's arrival in Colombia.
Although thoroughly vetted and background checked, Zulu sign language interpreter Thamsanqa Jantjie met all the qualifications for presidential access, except one.
Sullivan, appearing about a month after the episode, assured lawmakers that the behavior of the agents and officers involved did not point to a larger cultural problem in which such behavior was tolerated by managers. But the investigation found that several agency employees had previously acknowledged to Secret Service investigators that they had engaged in similar misconduct elsewhere, including having had sex with foreign nationals in Italy, Russia, Ireland and New York City.

Sullivan could not be reached for comment.

The report cited a number of colorful e-mail exchanges between Secret Service staff suggesting that arranging liaisons with prostitutes was a widely known and accepted practice. Before the Colombia trip, one senior supervisor e-mailed 54 employees, cracking that the motto of the trip was "Una Mas Cerveza Por Favor," Spanish for "one more beer, please." In another note, an agent wrote to a colleague, "Swagg cologne-check/Pimp gear-check/Swagg sunglasses-check/Cash for dem hoes-check."

The report said that the openness of the communication indicates that the Secret Service employees "did not believe their misconduct would be punished."
The closing two paras above, may provide some hint as to the source of the problem.

Britain
The British Are Coming! UK Votes To Bomb ISIS In Syria
[Daily Caller] The United Kingdom voted to extend bombing missions conducted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) to Islamic State targets in Syria.

Until now the U.K. limited itself to targeting ISIS in Iraq and previously refused to hit ISIS strongholds in Syria on the grounds that it does not have the necessary authorization from the United Nations or the domestic government.

Members of parliament (MPs) clashed for several hours over the government's motion to strike ISIS in Syria. Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party David Cameron made the case to parliament that bombing ISIS in Syria will help to ensure the security of the British people and degrade ISIS's ability take territory.

Cameron argues there are 70,000 fighters in Syria who oppose ISIS and will be helped by the U.K.'s intervention. The source for this figure is the U.K.'s Joint Intelligence Committee.

ISIS Training Militants On Commercial Flight Simulators In Libya
[Daily Caller] Islamic State militants in Libya are learning how to fly commercial jets in large simulators imported from abroad, according to reports from Arabic media.

ISIS is reportedly training pilots in the Libyan city Sirte using large and comprehensive flight simulators, Libyan officials told an Arabic daily Wednesday according to Ynetnews. ISIS has an estimated 3,000 fighters in Libya and has controlled Sirte for several months.

"The simulator is about as large as a small car, and simulates every facet of flight including air-to-ground communications," the sources said. A group of ISIS commanders reportedly obtained the simulator in October and have at least one other simulator, which they are using to train fighter pilots.

If ISIS strengthens its hold in Sirte, it could gain direct access to the Mediterranean and southern Europe.

"Libyan Air Force planes, that were not sufficiently armed, have previously attempted to destroy at least one ISIS training camp, but the attacks achieved little results," a security official who was part of a team monitoring ISIS in Northern Africa told the Arabic daily.

A belief the United States is secretly in league with ISIS is widespread in Iraq among both Sunni and Shia groups, the Washington Post reported Tuesday. Many believe that is the only explanation for what they see as a failed U.S. campaign against ISIS.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
The Canadian Model Fighting ISIS In Syria Tells Us What It's Like to Be On the Frontline
Give 'em hell, Hanna!
Hanna Bohman has been fighting ISIS in Syria on and off for most of 2015, and she hasn't been impressed.

She said that as fighters, the Islamic State militants have "mostly been a disappointment."

"Their numbers don't seem that big and they're eager to run away," she told INSIDER in an email. "I suspect most of the experienced fighters have been consolidated in Mosul and Raqqa, and that's where the big fights will be."

She said that ISIS has successfully made themselves seem bigger and scarier than they are in reality through social media.

Although the group recently claimed responsibility for terrorist attacks that killed hundreds in Paris, Beirut, Baghdad, and Ankara and over the Sinai Peninsula, its promise of statehood is quickly diminishing, The New York Times reports.

"They're not some giant, holy juggernaut of ultimate damnation for unbelievers," she said. "They're just a bunch of filthy, mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging pigs who run away at the first sign of resistance. Really nothing more than a thorn in the side."

A former Canadian model who's also known as Tiger Sun, Bohman, 46, is one of dozens of Westerners who have joined up with Kurdish nationalist groups to fight the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. She was personally inspired to fight after watching an ISIS propaganda video featuring a Canadian who had gone to fight with the jihadists, she told the Daily Mail.

After recovering from a near-fatal motorcycle accident last year, Bohman, who had no prior combat experience, left Vancouver for Iraq in March. She joined up with the YPJ, the female fighting battalion of the People's Protection Unit, a Kurdish nationalist fighting force.

Joining the YPJ was easy, she said, much easier than one would expect traveling from the West into the middle of war would be. Upon arriving in Iraq, she stayed in a safe house for a few days before taking a boat across the Tigris River into northeastern Syria.

She then received very brief training and was assigned to her first unit, though it didn't see much action. Her role consisted mostly of watching over territory, and the only real threat was being the target of a suicide truck, according to Bohman. But once she transferred to a more experienced unit, she began to see fighting almost instantly.

"That's where I was first shot at by a sniper while walking from the outhouse to our quarters," she said. "We were a mobile [unit], so we moved around quite a bit and were part of a large offensive south of Til Temir."

The most intense fighting she experienced was in the next unit she was a part of, albeit for a brief two days in June. Just one hour after joining the brigade, a German who was fighting with the group said they would be going to the front.

"It was a small group of six westerners and I was the only woman... but all of us, including the commander, were itching for a fight, so we went a bit rogue," she said. "We became lost trying to find the front and thought we had accidentally pushed into Daesh country when we started seeing dead people lying on the roads. The drivers were frantically calling for help on their phones and radios, and the tension was the highest I've ever felt as we had no idea where Daesh was."

The group made a "mad retreat" to get their bearings. The following morning, the six were ordered to take the city of Til Abyad, a northern Syrian city near the Turkish border that had been under ISIS's control. Bohman, who posts videos of her endeavors with the YPJ on YouTube, uploaded a video prior to the start of the mission.

She laughed at how absurd it seemed.

"Six of us against what was supposed to be more than 100 Daesh, but nonetheless, we jumped into a tank and off we went," she said.

As they closed in on the battle, her unit met up with 12 Kurds who were already in position near a bridge leading into the city.

The Kurds would have to take that bridge in order to take the city.

"We spent the rest of the day fighting for that bridge, which was also the last time a sniper would take a shot at me, the bullet passing so close over my head I felt it," she said. "We held the bridge over night while reinforcements arrived, and the next day they took the city, which by now had mostly been abandoned by Daesh."

She briefly returned to Canada after the battle, stricken by malnutrition after having lost almost 30 pounds since joining the YPJ. But almost as soon as she returned to Vancouver, she was itching to get back to the fight in Rojava, the name given to what is considered Western Kurdistan. She went back in early September and remains with the YPJ today.

But contrary to popular belief, life in Syria isn't all about fighting, she explained. About "95%" of her time is spent sleeping, eating, cleaning, socializing, or being on guard.

"It's not what people expect," she said. "We're not constantly locked in a life or death battle with bullets and mortars flying back and forth."

Another misconception is that the real fight is against ISIS, she said.

"The real enemy is who Daesh works for," she said, claiming that it's really "Turkey's genocidal [President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan... who will eventually turn Turkey into a dictatorship while trying to kill off the Kurds."

Claims that Turkey supported the Islamic State go back more than a year, and it's well-known that the Turkish government views the rise of Kurdish nationalism as a bigger threat to its security than the rise of ISIS.

After the Turkish military shot down a Russian plane last week, Russian leaders claimed that they have proof that Erdogan's own family was involved in smuggling ISIS oil into Turkey. Erdogan said he would resign if that claim was proven true, and insists that his regime is working to diminish the threat of ISIS in the region. US officials said their NATO allies have been "great" in the fight against the Islamic State.

According to Bohman, Westerners who left their countries and bypassed their governments to fight ISIS are what has inspired her most since joining the YPJ.

four men in their 30s on suspicion of committing offenses under the Terrorism Act. Police said the men were arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. Police say searches are being conducted at seven separate addresses in Luton, 30 miles (50 kms) north of London, where the men were arrested. Vehicles are also being searched.

Police say the arrests are not related to the recent Islamic State group attacks on Paris.

New arrest in Paris attacks linked to apartment raid

two people outside Gay Paree -- one of them for suspected links to the only man charged in connection with the Nov. 13 attacks in the capital, according to two officials close to the investigation.

The first arrest on Tuesday was of a 25-year-old man suspected of being an intermediary to Jawad Bendaoud, who already has been handed preliminary charges for providing housing to Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the suspected planner of the Gay Paree attacks that killed 130 people. The intermediary, whose name wasn't disclosed, was arrested in his home in Malakoff, south of Gay Paree by counterterrorism police, officials said. A few hours later, police went with the suspect to search another apartment in Saint-Denis, a northern Gay Paree suburb, and jugged

a woman who was there.

Belgium Police Detain Two over Paris Attacks
Whether they'll be arrested is a different question -- most of those picked up aren't.
[AnNahar] Belgian police on Wednesday held two people for questioning in connection with the Gay Paree attacks, after carrying out a series of searches in their hunt for key suspects with links to the November 13 massacre.

"This morning five premises were searched in the Brussels region, concerning the ongoing federal investigation into the runaway Mohammed Abrini and into Ahmed Dahmani who is currently detained in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
," the federal prosecutor said in a statement.

Belgium last week issued an international arrest warrant for Abrini, 30, who was filmed along with top suspect Salah Abdeslam at a petrol station on a motorway near Gay Paree in a car that was later used in the attacks.

Dahmani, a Belgian citizen of Moroccan origin, reportedly scouted out targets for the Gay Paree attacks and was tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
as he was allegedly trying to make his way to Syria.

The searches took place in several Brussels neighbourhoods, including the troubled Molenbeek district where several of the Gay Paree attackers resided, including suspected ringleader Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who was killed in a raid by French police.

CNN on Monday said Salah Abdeslam, who is Belgian, had managed to slip out of Europe and into Syria since the atrocity, though Sherlocks believe he may still be in Europe. Belgian Sherlocks said on Tuesday they are working on the assumption that Abdeslam is still in Belgium, where he is believed to have fled to hours after the Gay Paree attacks.

Egypt to open Rafah border crossing two days for humanitarian cases
Will there be a big attack from Ansar Bayt al Maqdis shortly thereafter, as usual? It will be harder this time, now that the tunnels are flooded.
[AlAhram] The border will remain open for 48 hours starting Thursday, an Egyptian official at the border told state media

Egyptian authorities will open the Rafah border crossing with Gazoo for two days to allow for the passage of stranded individuals and facilitate humanitarian aid, an Egyptian official at the border told MENA.
The crossing will be opened for Thursday and Friday.

It is not yet clear whether the crossing will be opened on one side or will allow for the passage of traffic in both directions.

The last time the border was opened was in mid October, when authorities partially opened the crossing to allow Paleostinian Muslim pilgrims to return to their homes from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Egyptian authorities have, for the most part, kept the Rafah crossing closed since October 2014 following attacks by Islamist holy warriors in North Sinai, which left over 30 security personnel dead.

Egypt has on occasion opened the crossing for three-day periods, on average, allowing those in need of medical care to travel to Egypt and permitting other Paleostinians to travel in either direction.

Cairo has accused the Islamist movement Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, the de facto ruler of the Israeli-besieged Gazoo Strip, of aiding krazed killer groups in North Sinai. Hamas has repeatedly denied the accusations.

Police demolish terrorist’s East Jerusalem home
[IsraelTimes] Ibrahim al-Akari killed two in a vehicular attack a year ago, was rubbed out at the scene; troops arrest 28 suspects overnight

Police were out in force in the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem Wednesday morning as IDF engineers demolished the family home of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terrorist Ibrahim al-Akari, who killed two Israelis in a vehicular terror attack in the city last November.

Akari was a Hamas operative whose brother was once sentenced to life in prison for murdering an Israeli police officer, but was released in the prisoner exchange for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. On November 5, 2014, Akari rammed his vehicle into a group of Border Police officers at the Shimon Hatzadik light rail station in northern Jerusalem, then went on to ram nearby pedestrians before exiting the vehicle and attempting to attack Israelis on foot. He was shot and killed by police at the scene.

Border Police Superintendent Jadan Assad was killed in the attack. Shalom Aharon Baadani, a 17-year-old Jewish seminary student hit by Akari's car while riding a bicycle near the rail station, died two days later of his wounds.

IDF soldiers also entered the town of Doha, west of Bethlehem, early Wednesday in order to identify the home of Raed Muhammad al-Khatib, who attempted to carry out a stabbing attack Tuesday at the nearby Gush Etzion Junction.

Meanwhile,

28 Paleostinian suspects overnight, the IDF said in a statement. Of them, 13 are suspected of "popular terror," a term used to denote rock-throwing and firekabooms, usually against Israeli motorists, the army said.

The sweep of arrests took place throughout the West Bank, in Dir Amar northwest of Ramallah, Kafr Akeb southeast of Ramallah, Beit Ummar southwest of Bethlehem, and in at least four villages in the Hebron area.

A major operation involving forces from four IDF brigades in Hizme, southeast of Ramallah, uncovered large number of weapons hidden in Paleostinian homes, including three rifles, ammunition, military equipment, daggers, knives and written materials containing incitement to terror attacks, the army said.

In its statement, the IDF noted that several attacks against Israelis in recent weeks had originated from Hizme.
Ynet adds:
During their operations in Shuafat, troops seized an M-16 assault rifle and ammunition magazines. In addition, Border Police forces tossed in the slammer

a Paleostinian woman at the Shuafat checkpoint who was trying to smuggle a knife hidden inside a gallon of yogurt.

Afghanistan
Afghan Taliban leader injured in firefight
[ARABNEWS] Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was injured in a firefight following a verbal dispute at a meeting of holy warrior commanders in Pakistain, officials said, exposing the deep divisions within the fractious holy warrior movement.

"Mansour was maimed. He was rushed to hospital and we are not sure if he survived his wounds," Sultan Faizi, the front man for the Afghan first vice president, told AFP.

An Afghan intelligence source confirmed his account, and hard boy sources also told AFP that Mansour had been injured.

Taliban front man Zabihullah Mujahid denied that any such firefight took place.

Mansour was announced as the new Taliban chief on July 31, after the holy warrior movement belatedly confirmed the death of Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. , who led the group for some two decades.

But splits immediately emerged in the Taliban following his appointment, with some top leaders refusing to pledge allegiance to him, saying the process to select him was rushed and even biased.

Four people were killed in the firefight Wednesday, a Taliban source close to Mansour's group told AFP, and a number of people injured.

"Akhtar Mansour is among the injured but the extent of his injuries is not clear," he said.

His account was confirmed by another Afghan Taliban source.

The meeting was at the home of Abdullah Sarhadi, a commander in Mansour's group and a former Guantanamo Bay prisoner who had been placed in durance vile

after 2001 by the US, then released, the Taliban sources said.

He was arrested again later on by Pakistain, then released sometime in 2012, they said.

"There were differences on some points which later turned into harsh words, then Sarhadi opened fire and the others returned fire," the Taliban source said.

Photo of anti-Muslim attack victim in Germany a fake
[OBSERVERS.FRANCE24] The photo of a man covered in blood, sitting on a tram in Kassel, Germany, has been circulated widely on social media over the past few days. The description accompanying the photo describes the man as a Muslim who was recently attacked by a group of neo-Nazis. However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
this is false.

The photo was indeed taken in Kassel, but it actually dates back to February. It was published in the local newspaper HNA. The article explained that, contrary to rumours that were already circulating at the time, the bloodied man was not attacked by neo-Nazis. He had in fact gotten in to a fight with a man who, like him, is Algerian.

Following the Gay Paree terrorist attacks -- and a rise in Islamophobic incidents -- this photo and the fake rumour reappeared on social networks, notably on Facebook and Twitter. This is yet another example of why readers should be careful with images they see circulating online, especially those linked to the terrorist attacks.

Pudgy Watched Failed Missile Test
North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim Jong-un probably watched the test-launch of a ballistic missile from a submarine that went awry last Saturday, the National Intelligence Service here speculated Monday.

An NIS officer told members of the National Assembly Intelligence Committee, "It's highly likely that Kim was at the scene, given a North Korean broadcasting report that he visited Wonsan last Friday."

The test was conducted in waters in the East Sea near Wonsan. During a similar test in May, a missile soared about 150 m into the sky before dropping into the sea.

Meanwhile, the officer said Jo Yong-won, a Workers Party official, has risen up in the hierarchy recently. Jo (58) accompanied Suet Face Kim Jong-un on his "on-the-spot guidance trips" 37 times this year – second only to Army politburo chief Hwang Pyong-so, who accompanied Kim 74 times.

But Jo only appeared in the North Korean media for the first time in December last year.

"In North Korea, things like how often anyone accompanies Kim mean a great deal, regardless of their official rank," a government official here said. "Little is known about Jo, but Kim is apparently dissatisfied with older brass and seems to have handpicked the relatively young Jo and promoted him."

Peshmerga official says heavy weapons from US arriving soon
[Rudaw] A senior Peshmerga official told Rudaw on Wednesday that US heavy weapons for Iraq's Kurdish forces had arrived in Kuwait and would be delivered to the Kurds in a month.

"The USA decided to give heavy weapons to the Peshmerga," said Jabar Yawar, chief of staff to the Peshmerga ministry. "The weapons have arrived in Kuwait and in a matter of one month they will be transferred to the Kurdistan region," he said in a television interview.
Assuming the things are not transferred via Baghdad...
Yawar, who is leading a Peshmerga delegation to Italia, said the weapons included "heavy artillery, armored vehicles, Humvee and Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected MRAPS."
Pretty pictures of such things at the link.
He also said that the Peshmerga delegation has requested various weapons from Italia.

"In today's meeting with the Italian defense minister, we offered a list of necessary weapons and ammunition to the Italian government," he said. "They showed willingness to provide our necessities."

North Korea digging new nuclear-test tunnel: satellite photos
Satellite photographs from October and early November indicate North Korea is digging a new tunnel for nuclear testing, a US research institute said on Wednesday.

A report on 38 North, a North Korea monitoring website run by Johns Hopkins University’s school of advanced international studies in Washington, said the images showed significant construction since April at Punggye-ri, on North Korea’s east coast, where three previous nuclear tests were conducted. However, there are no signs any testing is imminent, it said.

The commercial images showed excavation of a new tunnel in addition to the three others where North Korea has either conducted nuclear tests or excavated tunnels in the past, the report said.

The report said: “While there are no indications that a nuclear test is imminent, the new tunnel adds to North Korea’s ability to conduct additional detonations at Punggye-ri over the coming years if it chooses to do so.”

On 30 October, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency quoted a South Korean government source as saying there was active movement of workers and vehicles working on a new tunnel at the site. The source said this indicated an intention to conduct a nuclear test “at some point”, though this did not appear to be imminent.

Pyongyang has vowed to continue to conduct nuclear tests and to launch what it says is a rocket to put a satellite into orbit, something South Korea and its main ally, the US, say would be a disguised long-range missile test.

American and South Korean defence chiefs have expressed “grave concern” over North Korea test plans and urged it to cease all activities related to its nuclear programme immediately.
There, that should do it.

Shaboobs routed from Aysoora by AU, Somali Army
THE Somali National Forces supported by African Union Forces from Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) contingent have overpowered Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia, flashing them out of Aysoora town, located 280km south West of Mogadishu. According to Capt. Flavia Terimulungi, the UPDF contingent spokesperson, “on 28th November 2015, our operation code-named ‘Fagia Adui’ which means ‘sweep the enemy’ in Kiswahili saw forces move 20Km further from Baraawe port towards Kisimayo port.”

Terimulungi adds in a press statement that, “the attack was conducted at dawn and by 7:00am, Al-Shabaab had been subdued and the territory objectively secured and as they fled, they left their families behind.”

Since September, Al-Shabaab has been controlling a stretch of 79Kms from Subley to Baraawe Port which has been the main supply point and source of revenue for the insurgents. The Al-Shabaab also used Aysoora as a base to carry out attacks on Baraawe district.

Earlier media reports indicated that the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Katumba Wamala also joined the contingent at the frontline in making final preparations for the operation to conquer territory through meetings with the commanders and giving morale to the troops. The statement says that Battle Group XVII Commander, Col Bob Ogiki whose unit conducted the operation, briefed troops about the significance of the move.

“Securing Aysoora will allow free movement of the population that has been restricted up until now, it will also facilitate the provision of the much needed humanitarian assistance to the local population,” Ogiki said.

He added that the capture of Aysoora denies Al-Shabaab another source of illegal income after a string of defeats and the loss of their major source of revenue in Baraawe and many other places.

“This operation should be a demonstration of AMISOM’s continuing determination to support the people of Somalia as they embark on a new path of renewal and reconstruction.” Col Ogiki briefed his troops who were deployed to Somalia earlier last month.

Iraqis think the U.S. is in cahoots with the Islamic State, and it is hurting the war
[WASHINGTONPOST] On the front lines of the battle against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, suspicion of the United States runs deep. Iraqi fighters say they have all seen the videos purportedly showing U.S. helicopters airdropping weapons to the krazed killers, and many claim they have friends and relatives who have witnessed similar instances of collusion.

Ordinary people also have seen the videos, heard the stories and reached the same conclusion -- one that might seem absurd to Americans but is widely believed among Iraqis -- that the United States is supporting the Islamic State for a variety of pernicious reasons that have to do with asserting U.S. control over Iraq, the wider Middle East and, perhaps, its oil.

"It is not in doubt," said Mustafa Saadi, who says his friend saw U.S. helicopters delivering bottled water to Islamic State positions. He is a commander in one of the Shiite militias that last month helped push the holy warriors out of the oil refinery near Baiji in northern Iraq alongside the Iraqi army.

The Islamic State is "almost finished," he said. "They are weak. If only America would stop supporting them, we could defeat them in days."

More than 600 ISIS militants die in northern Iraq
[ARA News] ERBIL – At least 618 militants of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) were killed in November during battles with the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and U.S.-led strikes in Iraq.

Saeed Mamozini, media official in the Kurdistan regional Government (KRG) in Nineveh, said in a press statement that 618 ISIS militants were killed last month in clashes with the Peshmerga and airstrikes by warplanes of the U.S.-led coalition.

“ِAlso in November, ISIS extremists executed 133 people, including 47 women on various charges, while some 25 children reportedly died because of hunger (in areas held by the group),” Mamozini told reporters.

The Kurdish official pointed out “at least 212 people sold their kidneys in the areas under ISIS rule.”

In the meantime, an informed source told ARA News in Mosul that five ISIS militants were killed on Tuesday “while trying to place explosive devices in a residential building in the village of Bazwaya east of Mosul”.

“One of the explosive devices was mistakenly detonated during the operation, causing a huge explosion inside the building and claiming the lives of the five militants,” he said.

“The group used to fill civilians’ houses with explosives in a bid to terrorize people as well as kill any Kurdish fighter approaching the ISIS headquarters,” the source said on the condition of anonymity.

“ISIS rules people with an iron fist,” a resident in Mosul’s suburb told ARA News. “But they will face defeat soon before the Peshmerga and Iraqi forces.”

Rooshun warbirds hammer ISIS troops in Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday waged a major offensive on positions of the Syrian rebels in villages and towns recaptured from the group last week in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, military sources reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, the rebel commander Saleh Zein said that fighters from the Levant Front in conjunction with the Halab Operation Chamber were able to repel the “deadliest” attack launched by ISIS terrorists in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

“The terror group tried to break into the region from several fighting fronts, including the villages Oum al-Qura, al-Kafra and the town of Dalha,” he added.

The terror group was able at last to seize al-Kafra after fierce clashes with rebels, according to the rebel commander.

“At least 15 rebel fighters lost their lives during the ISIS-led offensive, while our fighters killed six ISIS terrorists in Wednesday’s clashes,” Zein said, arguing that ISIS’s advance came after the Russian warplanes bombed several locations belonging to the rebels in the area.

The rebel commander pointed out that ISIS continued its bombardment on the town of Marea for the second consecutive day. The group targeted the town with several Grad rockets.

“The group also tried to break into the Dalha town near the Syrian-Turkish border –which fell to the rebel group of Sultan Murad Brigade ten days ago.”

The Sultan Murad Brigade includes Turkmen fighters who are heavily supported by the Turkish government.

ISIS has clearly declined over the last two weeks and lost several key villages and towns near the Syrian-Turkish border, including the towns of Dalha and Harjala.

However, the group was able to fight back on Tuesday and Wednesday after Russian and Syrian warplanes intensified their airstrikes on rebel positions, especially those held by the Levant Front in northern Aleppo.

Kurds fighting Al-Nusra Front and the Ahrar al-Sham in Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Clashes renewed between the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Islamist factions linked to the Syrian armed opposition in Aleppo, local activists reported on Wednesday.

Over the past two days, the Kurdish forces, backed by allied rebel group of the al-Thuwar Army, have recaptured several villages in Aleppo countryside following fierce clashes with Islamist armed groups, during which casualties fell on both sides.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, media activist Wael Mohammed said that the YPG forces, backed by rebels of al-Thuwar Army, were able to take full control of the villages of Miremin and Anab in the countryside of Afrin in Aleppo province after clashes with Islamist fighters.

The Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham and the al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria) have seized these two villages several days ago before the Kurdish fighters and allies expel them again. The battles left casualties on both sides.

“At least six Islamists have been killed,” Mohammed said.

The source added that five fighters from al-Thuwar Army, a YPG ally, were held captives in an ambush by al-Nusra Front on the outskirts of Kashtaar town in Aleppo suburbs.

Al-Nusra Front and the Ahrar al-Sham fighters have been targeting the YPG headquarters in the Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud with rocket-propelled grenades and hell cannon, injuring a number of civilians, eyewitness told ARA News.

The Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood has been besieged by Islamists for weeks.

On the other hand, the YPG responded by targeting locations of Islamists in al-Shkef and Kastillo districts of Aleppo, causing the injury of four civilians, according to activists.

The rebel group of Ahrar Souriya Brigade announced in a statement earlier this week that they imposed a blockage on Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. Islamist factions aim to storm the Kurdish neighborhood in a bid to expel the Kurdish YPG forces from the area, after accusing the YPG of having links with the Syrian regime. However, the YPG leadership repeatedly denied these allegations, stressing that its main fight at the moment is against radical Islamists.

[OMANTRIBUNE] Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's popularity has jumped in the run-up to Sunday's crucial legislative election, but probably not enough to prevent an opposition victory, a new survey by a leading pollster said.

Thanks to public ire with a brutal economic crisis caused by dysfunctional controls and the oil price plunge, the opposition has its best shot in 16 years at winning the National Assembly from the ruling Socialists.

But in a boost to the hopes of government candidates, Maduro's popularity jumped more than 11 points to 32.3 per cent in late November, according to the survey by Datanalisis seen by Rooters on Tuesday.
Who's doing the counting?
The firm's head, Luis-Vicente Leon, said this week the ruling 'Chavista' movement, named for Maduro's predecessor, Hugo Chavez, had reaped reward for going on the attack against foes, distributing resources in key districts, and reviving the memory of the popular former president during the campaign.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the Democratic Unity coalition, which groups all main opposition parties, remains in pole position, with 55.6 per cent planning to back the opposition, and 36.8 per cent the government, the survey said. "The main uncertainty is not whether 'Chavismo' or the opposition will win, but what type of majority the opposition will obtain," Leon added in an opinion article this week, saying Maduro's popularity bounce would not swing the election.

The opposition is benefiting from Venezuelans' anger at the world's highest inflation, widespread product shortages and long lines to shop for basics.

MP Zahir Qadir says government could collapse if evidence presented to support his claim
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Haji Zahir Qadir, first deputy of the Lower House of Parliament or Wolesi Jirga who has been accusing the National Security Council (NSC) for supporting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
or Daesh [Islamic State] says government could collapse if he presents documents do support his claim.

He had a CD in his hand during Wednesday's session and said that he has conditions to unveil the proof because this is an "international issue".

"Haji Zahir Qadir is concerned, incase evidences are presented, government would collapse and I don't want that," he said.

Qadir added that he would show the evidences to certain people at a certain time because he does not want division of Afghan nation. "I want one nation," he said.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the National Security Council has rejected Qadir's claim calling it a "conspiracy".

Ministries of defense and interior have also rebuffed the accusations over the government.

After Qadir first brought up the issue, the Minister of Interior Noor-ul-haq Olomi and Afghanistan's Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Qadam Shah Shahim called the comments as "irresponsible".

ISIS in Libya Train to Fly Planes
ISIS terrorists in the city of Sirte, northern Libya, are training to fly planes using at least one flight simulator according to military sources in the North African state. The sources added that there is a prevailing belief amongst investigators that the device was seized from the training departments of Gaddafi’s looted airports. Other sources stated that “It’s a modern simulator, which may have arrived from abroad”, noting that it was roughly the size of a small car. The simulator is complete with a steering wheel to practice take-off and landing, a radar screen, and a communications device to contact the control tower.

A senior Libyan military officer said in an interview during a recent visit to Cairo that a group of ISIS leaders, amongst them retired officers from Libya and a number of neighbouring countries, obtained the first simulator device that specialises in civilian planes last October. Security services have gathered new information from Sirte during the last two weeks suggesting that another fighter jet simulator had arrived. However, its type remains unknown.

A security official working in a team that follows the activity of ISIS in North Africa said that information about ISIS militants training to fly civilian planes in Libya exists and added that the Libyan Air Force which lacks armaments attempted to hit at least one base where the training is believed to take place several times but that the operations were unsuccessful.
Ynet adds:
An estimated 3,000 ISIS fighters are currently based in Libya.

Mayor: Group linked to Daesh active in Cotabato City
[Inquirer] Armed men linked to Daesh have been recruiting Cotabato City youths to undergo training on bomb-making, Mayor Japal Guiani Jr. has confirmed despite military and police denials. He said, "I was told about this in the past and that information was confirmed with the death of armed men in Palimbang, three of whom were from Cotabato City."

He was referring to the November 27 clash in the town in Sultan Kudarat province between Philippine troops and militants reportedly belonging to the Ansar al-Khilafah Philippines. The military had earlier reported recovering Daesj flags and firearms from the battleground.

Guiani said he is alarmed and "deeply disturbed" by the information he received that at least 30 young residents had been recruited by the Daesjinspired Ansar al-Khalifah Philippines. They were promised food and pocket money while training for bomb-making in the hinterlands of Palimbang.

Guiani said the group "targets minors, out-of-school youths and teenagers who are fond of reading the Koran." Some of them had told their parents that they would study Islamic theology in General Santos City and Sultan Kudarat, he said.

Maj. Gen. Edmundo Pangilinan told reporters over the weekend that authorities had yet to find solid proof that Daesh had gained a foothold in his area of jurisdiction, which includes Sultan Kudarat.

The recovery of Daesh flags at the site of the Palimbang clash wasn't enough for the military to draw a conclusion, Pangilinan said. The militants might have just idolized Daesh so much that they decided to use their flag, he added. Using the flag could only mean that Ansar al-Khalifah Philippines wanted to draw national and global attention, he said.

Going nowhere
[NATION.PK] Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
has become the opposition the government wanted: disorderly, one-dimensional and losing momentum. In the last three years, PTI's opposition has sounded more like a dragged election campaign in a post-election hangover. This single dimension opposition has fragmented PTI internally, and damaged its credibility externally. And in the end, the party that had introduced itself as the only hope for change within the democratic system is itself hoping for a new lifeline to restore its momentum.

PTI's role as a shadow government has been fairly disappointing. Within a democratic setup, the only way to change the status-quo is methodical opposition on all issues, with due proportion, and on all avenues of public discourse. The singular focus on rigging has neglected the issues of economy, energy, foreign policy, security, and accountability, amongst others. To maintain the legitimacy of its cause, and for the sake of the due process, an effective opposition would have exhausted all platforms, including the parliament, the higher courts, and the media, regardless of its chances of success at each venue. So far, PTI has only exhausted these avenues for election rigging, at the cost of all other issues of public interest. This single point maximalist position has put PTI from the street to the sidewalk. Fittingly, an opposition that claims to be better than the incumbent government, without actually being an effective opposition first, loses its claim to either.

Home Front: WoT
300 Americans among militia's online supporters
[OMANTRIBUNE] Active online supp-orters of the Syria-based Baghdadi militia movement now include about 300 people identifiable as Americans, said a study by academic experts published on Tuesday.

George Washington University's Programme on Extremism said in the study that the number of other Americans who passively "consume" Baghdadi militia propaganda runs to "several thousand", though they are not necessarily active supporters of the group.

Twitter is the "platform of choice" most widely used by the active core of American supporters of Baghdadi militia, it said.

American militia activists and sympathisers also use other social media, ranging from open forums such as Facebook, Google+ and Tumblr to more secretive messaging apps including Kik, Telegram, surespot and the dark web, the study said.

American online supporters are sufficiently active and noisy to have established themselves as "nodes," or leading voices promoting Baghdadi militia themes, while others serve as "amplifiers," who repost materials from more prominent activists.

The study said US Baghdadi militia activists have helped craft a "unique innovation" in murderous Moslem messaging. This involves creation of "shout out" accounts, which enable activists to "introduce new pro-militia accounts to the community and promote newly created accounts of previously suspended users, allowing them to quickly regain their pre-suspension status."

The study noted that, although American social media accounts linked to militia are regularly suspended, among the activists such suspensions have become a "badge of honour and a means by which an aspirant can bolster his or her legitimacy."

Operators of suspended accounts usually set up and start using a newly created account, using only a variation of the previous user name, "within hours" of most suspensions, it said.

Even though Baghdadi militia's forerunners first emerged after the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, Baghdadi militia's "message did not exist" before the organization established itself in Syria and became involved in a civil war against the government of President Bashar Al Assad, said Lorenzo Vidino, one of the study's principal authors.

Vidino cited FBI statistics indicating that US authorities are currently pursuing 900 terrorism-related investigations in all 50 US states. His study noted that 71 individuals have been charged by US authorities with militia-related offences since March 2014, with 51 of those arrests occurring in 2015.

Separately, Nicholas Michael Teausant, a Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,n, has pleaded guilty to planning to join Baghdadi militia in Syria, prosecutors said, and faces up to 15 years in prison.

Teausant, 22, from the town of Acampo, on Tuesday pleaded guilty in a federal court in Sacramento to attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, the US Attorney's Office said.

Teausant is one of a number of people locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in the United States in the last two years for planning to join Baghdadi militia.

"This case, like others in communities across the United States and around the world, is an example of how a young person from any place and any background might make the terrible decision to try and become part of a terrorist organization," US Attorney Benjamin Wagner said.

UAE troops dig in for a long war in Yemen
[ARABNEWS] Soldiers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), at the head of a Gulf Arab coalition fighting Iran-allied Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
forces in Yemen, are preparing for a long, tough ground war from their base in the southern port of Aden.

As thousands of coalition soldiers fight daily battles with the Houthis on the front lines, their comrades in Aden are training Yemeni troops and trying to rebuild a functioning state loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

Infighting within the Hadi camp, the martial prowess of the Houthis and a growing Islamist menace have given the UAE armed forces, which have deployed in international operations from Kosovo to Afghanistan, their biggest challenge yet.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
assembled the coalition in March to carry out air strikes against the Houthis, whose rapid advance through the country had forced Hadi into exile in Riyadh and sparked fears of Iranian influence on the Arabian Peninsula.

Since then, the coalition has ramped up its deployment of ground forces and the UAE, which has contributed the largest and most experienced contingent of ground troops, has taken an increasingly prominent role.

Brig. Nasser Mushabab Al Otaibi, the Emirati officer leading the combined land force, said around 4,000 troops from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Sudan were now in Yemen, in the first major Gulf Arab-led intervention. He declined to say how many were from the UAE.

As well as fighting on the front lines, coalition soldiers are training around 7,000 Yemeni troops, and plan to begin building a police force in Aden to replace the ragtag local militias who currently man the checkpoints.

"They have their own army, they are trying to build police, and they have a government in Aden... it's a country now," Otaibi said in an interview at the UAE's military headquarters in the once-thriving port city.

Nonetheless, progress on the ground has been slow since the coalition took Aden in July. The Houthis and their allies still control most populated areas including the capital Sanaa, and are putting up a tough fight in the important city of Taez, 180km (110 miles) north-west of Aden.

"They are very good snipers. They've been using guns since they were this big," said one soldier of the Houthis, holding his hand out at waist height.

Otaibi said it would take another month or two for the coalition to capture Taez. After that, with a United Nations

Yemen president thwarting peace talks, say diplomats
[OMANTRIBUNE] Efforts to launch peace talks to end an eight-month-old war in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
are being thwarted in part by President Abd Rabuh Mansour Hadi, who fears a negotiated settlement would drive him from power, diplomats who follow Yemen said.

Hadi, driven out of the capital Sanaa earlier this year by Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
fighters that Arab neighbours say are backed by Iran, has returned to lead a government from the southern port of Aden, recaptured in July by troops from a Saudi-led Arab coalition.

Like his opponents, Hadi says he is committed to UN-led talks to end the war in one of the Arab world's poorest countries. But diplomats following the grinding of the peace processor say he is increasingly an obstacle, raising pressure on his Saudi sponsors to withdraw their support or help shunt him aside.

"Hadi has been trying to block any kind of talks because he knows that any settlement will be the end of this political career," said one diplomat who follows Yemen, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
"Hadi has never been popular and it's not in his interest that the war stops before complete victory. Diplomats know that Hadi is not a serious candidate, and a settlement means he's out."

A second diplomat said there was now broad agreement that talks were the way forward because the war had reached a stalemate on the ground. But "a few dissenters" including in Hadi's camp were nonetheless holding out for a military victory.

"And since that is seen as elusive, they are seen to back the conflict because a peaceful solution has nothing to offer for them."

Hadi strongly denies he is being obstructive.

"In fact, it is the opposite. The president has announced the list of participating delegates, and they are supported by an advisory team and they are ready for dialogue at any time the UN announces," said Mukhtar Al Rahbi, an official in Hadi's office.

Since an inconclusive round of talks in Geneva in June, UN special envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed has repeatedly sought to smooth the way to talks in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
. Britannia's UN Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said on Monday talks could begin in early December.

Bangladesh
Nizami defence: Commute if guilty
[Dhaka Tribune] War criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami
...During the liberation war of 1971, Nizami formed the Al-Badr Force and acted as its supreme commander. The Al-Badr militia took active part in rape, extortion, looting and killing of Bangladeshis who supported the liberation, including a pre-planned massacre on December 14, 1971, when the Al-Badr militia along with Pakistan Army rounded up hundreds of doctors, professors, writers, and other Bengali intellectuals, and executed them...
's lawyers have urged the Supreme Court to commute his death sentence to life term imprisonment "if he is found guilty" of crimes against humanity.

Prosecution thinks that kind of a submission is equal to confessing guilt, although defence claimed that it was not.

Nizami's counsel Khandaker Mahbub Hossain made the appeal to the Appellate Division yesterday, after the apex court concluded hearing the arguments of defence on the appeal filed by the Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
chief challenging the death penalty handed down to him by the war crimes tribunal.

During submission, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said his client had been shown involved with some incidents in Pabna, but there had been no eyewitnesses.

Moreover, Nizami had been shown as the chief of al-Badr because he was then the chief of Chhatra Sangha, now known by the name Chhatra Shibir. But the said crimes took place when Nizami was no longer with al-Badr.

The counsel also prayed to the apex court to acquit the death row convict of all the charges saying he was not directly involved in any of the crimes.

Nizami was a student in 1971 and was therefore not capable of showing Pakistain army the way to go to places where the offences took place, Mahbub argued.

"There is no credibility of those depositions and charges," he said.

Even then, if the court, believing those witness accounts, found 72-year-old Nizami guilty, then it should commute his death sentence to life considering his age and good behaviour, the defence counsel said.

Mahbub and SM Shahjahan, assisted by Shishir Manir, comprised defence while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

After the hearing session, Mahbubey told news hounds: "From their [defence's] submission, it appears that for the first time, the lawyers of a convicted Jamaat leader have confessed to [their client's] crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War and appealed for only commuting the death sentence.

"It is a historical fact that people were killed and the Jamaat leader facilitated those. Motiur Rahman Nizami supported that out of conviction," the chief state lawyer said.

Russia 'has proof' Turkey's Erdogan benefits from IS group oil

(IS) group in Syria and Iraq, the country's defence ministry said Wednesday.

The claim was the latest volley fired in a war of words between Moscow and Ankara that erupted last week when a Turkish air force jet shot down a Russian warplane near the Syrian-Turkish border, the most serious incident between Russia and a NATO

state in half a century.

At a briefing in Moscow, defence ministry officials displayed satellite images which they said showed columns of tanker trucks loading oil at installations controlled by the IS group in Syria and Iraq, and then crossing the border into neighbouring The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The officials did not specify what direct evidence they had of the involvement of Erdogan and his family, an allegation that the Turkish president has vehemently denied.

"Turkey is the main consumer of the oil stolen from its rightful owners, Syria and Iraq. According to information we've received, the senior politicianship of the country -- President Erdogan and his family -- are involved in this criminal business," said Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov.

"Maybe I'm being too blunt, but one can only entrust control over this thieving business to one's closest associates."

Antonov pointed the finger at the recent appointment of Erdogan's son-in-law Berat Albayrak as energy minister and alleged that the president's son runs one of the country's main energy companies.

"In the West, no one has asked questions about the fact that the Turkish president's son heads one of the biggest energy companies, or that his son-in-law has been appointed energy minister. What a marvellous family business!"

"The cynicism of the Turkish leadership knows no limits. Look what they're doing. They went into someone else's country, they are robbing it without compunction," Antonov said.

Erdogan: 'I'll step down if claims are proven'

Erdogan responded by saying no one had the right to "slander" Turkey by accusing it of buying oil from the IS group and vowed to stand down as president if such allegations were proven to be true.

"I won't stay in the seat of president for even one minute if Russia proved its claims. But those who spread this slander shouldn't retain their seats either," Erdogan said in comments broadcast by Turkish television on a visit to Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
"Turkey has not lost its moral values so as to buy oil from a terrorist organization," he added.

On Tuesday, US President Barack Obama

said Turkey had made progress in sealing its border with Syria, but the IS group was still exploiting gaps to bring in imported muscle and sell oil.

#1  Can there be any doubt that Erdogan, a Muslim Brother, and Obama, a Muslim Brother sympathizer are in cahoots? Obama denies attacks on the IS-held oil infrastructure and trucks. Thus captive oil flows to market through resource-poor Turkey and the Erdogan family benefits. What a deal!

Pudgy Buys Armored Mercedes
North Korean leader Pudgy Kim Jong-un has bought a new armored Mercedes-Benz. A source on Wednesday said the North bought the car from Germany in late October and had it shipped to Pyongyang.

The source said the German carmaker spent several months customizing the car to specifications provided by North Korean security officials.
Nice to see our friends adhering to the sanctions...
UN Security Council resolutions specifically ban the sale of premium cars, jewels, yachts and other high-end goods to North Korea.

The source said North Korea bought the car through a trading company set up in China to evade the ban. It was brought into North Korea in late October disguised as a generally traded product and passed through a customs checkpoint in Dandong.
Boy howdy, no one ever thought the Norks would try to evade the sanctions, did they...

ICE Director Struggles to Explain ‘Dramatic Decline’ in Criminal Alien Removals
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Sarah Saldana struggled to explain why the deportations of criminal aliens from the U.S. have declined to nearly half the level removed in 2011.
And she had no explanation whatsoever about why she's honoring the "sanctuary cities" nonsense...
“I would like my hands on every criminal alien who’s in the country illegally and to be able to remove them. This is what I have done as a prosecutor and this is what I did as a United States attorney. Neither I nor the women and men who work for ICE would let go of a criminal alien if they had a basis for it a final order of removal and the ability to remove them,” Saldana testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Unless said criminal alien is in a favored group, in which case he's out of jug on a recognizance bond...
The ICE Director was responding to questioning from Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who pressed the agency head on the “dramatic reduction” in criminal removals despite the Obama administration’s claim that their enforcement priorities

“According to the information we’ve obtained in 2011 your agency, ICE, removed 150,000 criminal aliens from the interior,” Sessions said. “In Fiscal Year ’12 it dropped to 135,000, in Fiscal Year ’13 it dropped to 110,000, in Fiscal Year ’14 to 86,000. And in Fiscal Year ’15, this year, we believe the number is only around 63,000.”

Saldana argued that 59 percent of the removals were criminals that were part of the administration’s priorities.

“Those three priorities I mentioned in my opening statement, which are mostly criminals. And, again, sir, once again 59 percent of all of those that were removed were criminal aliens. That is a record-breaking percentage of the people that we removed,” Saldana said.

Sessions responded: “Forgive me if that doesn’t make me feel good because the numbers are dropping dramatically. So, you’re dropping down on other removals and you’re defining upward what you consider to be criminal and you’re saying it makes up a larger percentage of the very much smaller pie. Isn’t that correct?”

“Yes sir,” Saldana responded, but noted that the removals are due to more “effective enforcement” and fewer people attempting to cross the border.
Remember, these are the people who would be participating in the screening of the Syrian war refugees.

CoM Orders Probe Into Govt Officials Who Attended Kabul Protest
[Tolo News] The Council of Ministers (CoM) has ordered government organizations to identify and question military and non-military officials who attended the Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
protest last month.

A leaked letter of the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) reveals that the ministry -- based on the CoM order -- has directed the human resources department to identify officials who attended the demonstration, where thousands of countrymen protested over the beheading of seven Zabul hostages.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
the MoIC front man Haroon Hakimi said no such letter had been issued by the ministry.

"No letter has been issued by the ministry in this regard," he said.

The Chief Executive front man Mujiburrahman Rahimi meanwhile said the decision has been taken based on complaints by a number of government organizations.

He said: "An investigation was ordered in this regard. The government officials who take salaries, their job is to do their duty during official hours and serve the people. In future when there is a protest, they [government officials] should be present at their job and not leave their offices."

Civil society activists meanwhile criticized the decision by the CoM.

"Any step which is taken in this regard is illegal. If every citizen faces such a situation and then he or she is questioned for what they did is against the law," said Mujib Khalwatgar, head of Nai -- an independent organization which supports open media in Afghanistan.

"The biggest guarantee is the 36th Article of the Constitution, based on which no one has the right to interrogate or punish someone for participating in a protest. Making the list of such people is against the law and even it is treachery," he added.

Following the brutal beheading of seven Zabul residents by alleged Daesh [Islamic State] members, tens of thousands of people from around the country stood together and erupted into the streets and to social media platforms in protest over the killings last month. One mass protest march was in Kabul where an estimated 20,000 people took part. Such a public demonstration has not been recorded in over 40 years in Afghanistan.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS executes gay couple in Palmyra
Of course they did. Because in the short term, the fewer others there are -- whatever the excuse might be to get rid of them -- the more loot for the Lions of Islam.
[ARA News] DAMASCUS – The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) threw two Syrian men off the top of a building in Palmyra city in the central Syrian province of Homs, after accusing them of being a gay couple, local sources reported on Wednesday.

A masked ISIS militant carried out the death sentence against the supposedly “gay couple” after the decision was approved by the Sharia Court in Palmyra.

Hawas Mohammed, 32, and Mohammed Salameh, 21, were brutally thrown off the top of a building in front of a crowd of people in central Palmyra.

“An ISIS Sharia judge has asked both victims before their execution whether they felt satisfied with the group’s rule. One of the victims replied that he would have preferred to be killed by firing squad, but the judge responded that this way of execution (namely throwing the victims from the top of a building) will cleanse their sins,” an eyewitness told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

“Then the masked militant threw Mohammed and Salameh off the top of the Wael Hotel’s building, which is the highest building in Palmyra city,” the source added.

Speaking to ARA News, human rights activist Ali Abbas said: “The incident is not the first of its kind and it will not be the last. We have documented the execution of at least 36 people at the hands of ISIS in the same way under the pretext they were gay.”

“Sharia judges have been carrying out the same sentence for all those proved being homosexuals,” he added.

Abbas pointed out that ISIS aims to terrorize civilians by conducting all kinds of brutal punishments against those who break the group’s strict rules.

“ISIS extremists carry out such executions in public in a bid to terrorize everyone,” he argued.

In October, the radical group brutally executed two Syrian men in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, throwing them off a roof on charges of “committing buggery”, according to local activists.

The two men were allegedly a gay couple. They had been thrown off the roof of al-Hikma hospital’s building in Deir ez-Zor.

Also in October, the hardline group had executed two Iraqi men in the northwestern Iraqi city of Mosul for being gay. The ISIS militants brutally threw the two young men off a building’s roof under the pretext they were a gay couple.

The ISIS-linked Sharia Court had issued a decision to execute every gay man by throwing him from the top of a building.

“Daesh accuses people of being gay only on basis of some superficial information without any investigation. Although the Islamic law bans homosexuality, but the brutal punishment by Daesh has never been witnessed throughout history,” civil rights activist Raed Ahmed told ARA News in an earlier interview, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

Rangers kill two suspected terrorists in Karachi shootout
KARACHI: At least two suspected terrorists were killed in a shootout with Rangers personnel in Karachi's Mai Gari Northern Bypass area, said a press release issued by the paramilitary force Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the Rangers conducted a surgical operation targeting the hideouts of suspected terrorists. Upon seeing the Rangers personnel, the suspected terrorists opened fire at the paramilitary force, reads the statement.

Rangers personnel responded with retaliatory firing as a result of which two suspected terrorists were killed.

The targeted terrorists, whose identities were being ascertained, were involved in recent killings of law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) personnel, the paramilitary force said.

The Rangers personnel also arrested at least 10 suspects during raids in different areas of the city within the last 24 hours, DawnNews reported.

Also read: Terrorists kill two army personnel in Karachi

The raids come just a day after two masked men on a motorbike shot dead two army personnel as they targeted a Military Police jeep on MA Jinnah Road, one of the city’s busiest arteries, sowing fear and panic in the neighbourhood.

The incident set alarm bells ringing in the security and political administration as Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah called Corps Commander, Karachi, Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, to convene a meeting on Wednesday to discuss progress on implementation of the National Action Plan.

Reward for tip-off

In a statement, the Rangers announced a Rs2.5 million reward for the person who can provide information leading to the suspects behind the attack on the military personnel yesterday.

The paramilitary force urged citizens to provide them any information leading to the attackers on their 1101 helpline via call or SMS. The identity of the person providing the information will be kept confidential, said the statement.

Karachi operation

Rangers is currently leading a grand operation against criminal elements in Karachi.

The ‘operation’ against criminal elements in Pakistan’s commercial hub was initiated back in September 2013 after the federal cabinet empowered Rangers to lead a targeted advance with the support of police against criminals already identified by federal military and civilian agencies for their alleged involvement in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.

A high-level apex committee meeting chaired by the Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif on May 14, 2015 decided to implement effective policing and surveillance in the "vast suburbs of Karachi", to prevent what the military spokesperson said were "sneaking terrorist attacks".

ISIS beheads Rooshun spook
[ARA News] DAMASCUS – The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) has released Wednesday a new video showing a militant beheading what the group claimed to be a Russian spy in the ranks of Islamic State fighters.

The video shows the executioner waving a knife and standing behind a kneeling captive.

The video comes as Russia stepped up airstrikes on rebel groups in Syria, bolstering the military forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, according to activists.

Under the banner “O Russians, You Shall be Disappointed and Humiliated,” the radical group shows a militant speaking fluent Russian, threatening Russia before cutting off the captive’s throat.

The 8-minute video has been widely circulated by pro-ISIS activists and sympathizers on the social media.

The captive confesses he had been recruited by Russian intelligence to gather information on ISIS, especially from the new members who joined the group from the Caucus region.

Khasiev Magomid, was born on August 4, 1992, in the city of Grozny in the Chechen Republic. He entered the ISIS-held territory under the name of “Haroun” by order from the Russian intelligence.

In the new video, Magomid confessed that he will disclose his real objectives through entering “the land of the caliphate”.

“In June 2014, while I was on my way to Grozny returning from Maikop, where I was working and studying, a number of men stopped me,” he said. “I discovered later I was arrested by the secret police who took me to the Russian intelligence branch in the city. They accused me of drug use and then raised questions about Islamic State,” he added.

“The Russian intelligence branch asked me to enter the ISIS-held areas in Syria. I agreed and completed all the paperwork and the terms of the contract between us,” Magomid said, pointing out “I was trained on how to communicate and deal through a third broker called Grant, whom I was supposed to contact once a month.”

“I was sending him pictures of the Mujahideen and their families and the leaders’ headquarters.”

“I was also asked about those ISIS members from Caucasus, who want to return back home and carry out attacks on Russian interests,” he added.

Magomid entered the ISIS-controlled region on August 26, 2014 through a broker received him in Istanbul, and then he was transferred to Iraq, but he was arrested later by ISIS militants, according to his confessions.

“We were looking for you and you have come to us on your feet,” the masked militant said in the video, vowing Russians “you will not find safety in your homes.”

In the past, ISIS released videos showing their fighters beheading foreigners, journalists, aid workers and minority groups, like Yezidi Kurds and Christians. “Jihadi John,” who was identified as Mohammed Emwazi, beheaded his captives while he was masked.

In Wednesday’s video, the executioner shows his face unlike Emwazi.

The group’s new video shows images of Putin before the unmasked ISIS militant cutting off the neck of the alleged spy in the footage. The video ends with the man’s face overwhelmed with blood on the ground next to the body.

Since the start of the Russia air campaign in Syria last September, ISIS has threatened to carry out attacks against Russia. In Egypt’s Sinai region, ISIS claimed responsibility for downing the Russian passenger plane in late October, killing a total of 224 people.

Shiite militias: We will fight US Special Forces in Iraq
Can't even manage a temporary truce while working toward the same existential goal? This is why y'all end up ruled by vicious tyrants.
[Rudaw] Iraqi Shiite groups and militias have said they will fight against a proposed deployment of US Special Forces troops to Iraq to fight ISIS.

Iraqi Shiite hard boyz of Kataib Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Badr Organization and Asaib Ahl al-Haq on Tuesday pledged to fight US troops.

"We will fight any American force deployed in Iraq," said Jafaar Hussaini, a spokesperson for Kataib Hezbollah, as quoted by Rooters. He added that the group's primary target will become US troops if they are deployed in Iraq, warning that Kataib Hezbollah has fought Americans in the past and will fight them again.

According to Rooters, the Iran-backed Badr Organization and Asaib Ahl al-Haq have also claimed similar statements against the United States, which has been playing a big role in the battle against ISIS since 2014, when it began providing advisors and trainers to Iraqi forces as well as direct air support.

Up to 3,500 US troops are currently advising and assisting Iraqi forces, including Kurdish Peshmerga fighters.

The United States announced Tuesday it would send an "expeditionary" elite group to combat ISIS. US Defense Secretary Ash Carter said the force would be larger than the 50 American special operations troops already being deployed in neighboring Syria.

Shooting rampage in California leaves 14 dead, 17 wounded
Latest from the AP can be found here.
It appears that Farouk was an employee there, and was kicked out of a holiday party, before returning with two of his closest friends and shooting the place up. Farouk was a devout Muslim and an environmental health specialist, by trade. Most of what we know at this point seems to suggest a workplace incident, but for the AKs, body armor and the IEDs.
[Rooters] Gunmen opened fire on a holiday party on Wednesday at a social services agency in San Bernardino, California, killing 14 people and wounding 17 others, then fled the scene, triggering an intense manhunt and a shootout with police, authorities said.

One suspect was struck by gunfire and one officer was injured in a confrontation hours after the mass shooting, San Bernardino police spokeswoman Sergeant Vicki Cervantes told reporters, adding that a second suspect might still be "outstanding."

She did not know the condition of the struck suspect but said the officer's injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said in a televised news briefing earlier that as many as three suspects were believed to have made their getaway in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle. A vehicle matching that description turned up at the shootout with police several hours later, Cervantes.

The police chief said 14 people were killed and 14 others wounded in the initial shooting spree, which unfolded at 11 a.m. on the campus of the Inland Regional Center, an agency that serves the developmentally disabled.

Cervantes later revised the toll of wounded to 17, not including the suspect and police officer who were shot later.

The shooting rampage in San Bernardino, about 60 miles (100 km) east of Los Angeles, marked the deadliest U.S. gun violence since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in December 2012, in which 27 people, including the gunman, were killed.

As the suspects fled, authorities ordered a security "lockdown" of all local schools, as well as city and county buildings, and area hospitals were placed on alert, Burguan said. Police searched door to door in the Redlands neighborhood a few miles from the site of the attack.

Burguan said he knew of no possible motive behind the attack.

"We have no information at this point that this is terrorist-related, in the traditional sense that people may be thinking," he added. "Obviously, at minimum, we have a domestic-type terrorist-type situation that occurred here."

He said the suspects were armed with rifles.
Unless I'm missing something, there appears to be a great deal information being held back by law enforcement. Person by the name of Syed Farook named as suspect.

by accusing it of buying oil from Daesh [Islamic State], and that he would stand down if such allegations were proven to be true.

i capital, also said he did not want relations with Moscow to worsen further.

Russia accused Erdogan and his family of involvement in illegal oil trading with Daesh [Islamic State] terrorists, ratcheting up the heat in a dispute over Ankara's downing of one of Moscow's warplanes.

The inflammatory allegations -- the latest in a ferocious war of words -- came as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he had agreed to meet his Turkish counterpart for the first high-level face-to-face talks since the incident last week.

The Defense Ministry accusations against Erdogan are the first implicating the Turkish strongman directly, as the Kremlin refuses to let the pressure drop after slapping economic sanctions on Ankara.

"The main consumer of this oil stolen from its legitimate owners Syria and Iraq is Turkey," Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov told journalists at a packed briefing.

"According to available information, the highest level of the politicianship of the country, president Erdogan and his family, are involved in this criminal business."

Antonov pointed the finger at the recent appointment of Erdogan's son-in-law Berat Albayrak as energy minister and alleged that the president's son runs one of the country's main energy companies.

"What a fantastic family business," he said, claiming that "terrorists" in Syria made some $2 billion each year out of the illegal oil trade.

The ministry officials displayed satellite images which they said showed columns of tanker trucks loading with oil at installations controlled by Daesh [Islamic State] in Syria and Iraq, and then crossing the border into Turkey.

#3  I looked at a map of Iraq to see where those oil tanker trucks could possibly be going. Northern Iraq borders Iran, Soddy Arabia, Jordan and...Turkey. Certainly, then, Turkey must be among the suspects. Seems like it would be easy enough with all the satellites and drones at Baraq's and Vlad's disposal to follow some of these trucks and find out for sure. Vlad seems to have satisfied himself that those trucks are indeed going to Turkey. What does Baraq say? Inquiring minds want to know.

China-Japan-Koreas
Chinese government has arrested hackers it says breached OPM database
[WASHINGTONPOST] The Chinese government recently tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
a handful of hackers it says were connected to the breach of Office of Personnel Management's database earlier this year, a mammoth break-in that exposed the records of more than 22 million current and former federal employees.

The arrests took place shortly before a state visit in late September by President Xi Jinping, and U.S. officials say they appear to have been carried out in an effort to lessen tensions with Washington.

The identities of the suspects -- and whether they have any connection to the Chinese government -- remain unclear.

Hacks of government and corporate data emanating from China have been a constant source of tension between the United States and China. This week, Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson are meeting with senior Chinese officials to try to establish guidelines for working together on law enforcement requests to investigate cyberattacks. The OPM hack -- which came in two waves -- was also on the agenda.

If the individuals detained were indeed the hackers, the arrests would mark the first measure of accountability for what has been characterized as one of the most devastating breaches of U.S. government data in history.

But officials said it has been difficult so far to independently confirm whether the people rounded up were actually connected to the OPM breach.

"We don't know that if the arrests the Chinese purported to have made are the guilty parties," said one U.S. official, who like others interviewed spoke on condition of anonymity because of the subject's sensitivity. "There is a history [in China] of people being arrested for things they didn't do or other 'crimes against the state.' "

Since the intrusions were first disclosed in June, U.S. government officials said they have suspected the Chinese government's involvement, in particular the civilian Ministry of State Security.

Suspect ID'd in San Bernardino Massacre as Syed Farook
Law enforcement officials have identified Syed Farook as one of the suspected shooters who attacked a center for the disabled in San Bernardino, California, according to NBC News. The Daily Beast has learned that the police have just executed a search warrant at a Redlands, California address—an address that belongs to Farook’s family.

Police pursued a car leaving from the Redlands address, Chief Jarrod Baraugan said at a Wednesday evening press conference. A male and female suspect were inside the car, and both of them have been killed. Both of the suspects were armed with assault rifles and handguns, Baraugan said. Police have apprehended a third man, but have not identified his relation to the attacks yet.

An eyewitness at the Inland Regional Center, where gunmen killed 14 and wounded at least 18 more, told police he saw a man leaving a meeting of county employees this morning, looking nervous. Poice officers named Syed Farook as that man in their radio communications. At approximately 11 a.m., at least two people entered the center and opened fire.

Farook, who also went by his middle name, Raheel, was a business taxes representative for the California State Board of Equalization, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is a 2003 graduate La Sierra High School, and most recently studied finance at California State University Fullerton until 2013.

Records show Farook bought a two bedroom Corona home in March 2014. Farook’s social media profile shows he is married and has at least one young child.

Shootout in Redlands near Farook residence

San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said a tip led officers to a home in Redlands. He said officers were watching that house when a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle appeared nearby. Police gave chase and those suspects — reportedly clad in “assault-style gear” — drove back to the area where the original crime scene took place. An officer-involved shooting took place where the two suspects — one man and one woman — were killed.

“We do not have any identification on who those suspects are, we do not have any motive for the shooting at this point,” said Burguan. “The only information I have at this point is they came prepared to do what they did and that they were on a mission.”

He added it’s believed the suspects — who were armed with long guns, not handguns — had fled, possibly in a dark-colored SUV.

Around 3:15 p.m. there was a report of a brief chase between law enforcement and possible suspects. Officers pointed their guns at the vehicle as it stopped not from the crime scene. Sky9’s Stu Mundel reported that a “man was deceased” next to the vehicle. The vehicle was riddled with bullets.

At 3:35 p.m., Mundel listened to scanner traffic and reported that “all suspects” were accounted for; by 4:30 p.m. officials said one suspect was dead and another was at large.

An officer was reported down but apparently that officer only suffered a graze wound, according to reports from the scene.

SWAT officers made a methodical search house-by-house about five blocks from where police and the suspects exchanged gunfire.

Rolling Coverage in the Guardian (UK)

From the map, it seems the shootout and the house search are more than five blocks apart.

France Shuts Down 3 Mosques In Crackdown
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] The latest on the recovery from and investigation into the Nov. 13 attacks in Gay Paree that killed 130 people. All times local:

2:35 p.m.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve says three mosques have been shut down in La Belle France since the Gay Paree attacks as part of a crackdown on Death Eater activities.

Cazeneuve told news hounds it was the first time mosques are being closed in La Belle France "on grounds of radicalization."

One of the mosques, 35 kilometers (22 miles) east of Gay Paree in Lagny-sur-Marne, was targeted by raids early Wednesday, with police seizing a 9mm revolver, a computer hard disc and jihadist propaganda. Cazeneuve said the mosque also had a non-authorized Koranic school.

One person was placed in jug following the raids, with 22 others banned from leaving La Belle France. Nine others were put under house arrest.

The two other mosques, in Lyon and Gennevilliers in the Gay Paree region, were shut down last week amid a state of emergency.

Cazeneuve says police have seized 334 weapons since the Nov. 13 attacks that left 130 people dead in Gay Paree.

1:40 p.m.
The directors of the Bataclan concert hall in Gay Paree, where two-thirds of the 130 victims of the Gay Paree attacks were killed, have said it will reopen before the end of 2016.

Jules Frutos - who has run the venue with Olivier Poubelle since 2004 - told Le Monde in an interview published Wednesday that "it's necessary to see the doors open again."

Poubelle said that "it shouldn't be turned into a mausoleum. Or a pilgrimage site."

World leaders, including Barack Obama
It’s very rare that I come to an event where I’m like the fifth- or sixth-most interesting person....
, have been visiting the site this week, each bringing a white rose to honor those who died in the Nov. 13 attacks.
The Times of Israel adds:
The assets of Imam Mohammed Hammoumi, who ran the mosque and the cultural associations until he left to live in Egypt in 2014, were frozen in April.

Authorities said Wednesday the prayer room in L'Arbresle had been used by hard boyz suspected of having contacts with others in Syria.

Cazeneuve later told the French parliament that there had been 2,235 searches leading to 263 arrests since the three-month state of emergency began.

"In 15 days we have seized a third of the weapons of war we would normally recover in a year," he said.

Of the 334 firearms seized, 145 were rifles and 34 assault weapons.

Cazeneuve said 330 people "who had been under surveillance by the security services for links to radical Islam have been put under house arrest."

Arabia
Al-Qaeda militants take over 2 south Yemen towns
ADEN, Yemen: Al-Qaeda fighters retook on Wednesday two southern Yemeni towns they briefly occupied four years ago, residents and local fighters said, exploiting a collapse of central authority in Yemen which is in the throes of an eight-month war.

In an early morning surprise attack on the Abyan province capital Zinjibar and neighboring town of Jaar, the militants overcame local forces and announced their takeover over loudspeakers after dawn prayers.

Residents identified them as Ansar Al-Sharia, a local affiliate of Al-Qaeda.

At least seven local militiamen and five militants were killed, according to local fighters. Militants were deployed to the streets of both towns, and in Jaar blew up the house of a local commander killed in the fighting, residents said. Schools and shops were closed.

A Saudi-led coalition has since March been trying to vanquish Yemen’s Iran-backed Shiite Houthis, who captured large parts of the country and wrested control from its government, which only recently returned from exile.

“The entrance of Al-Qaeda this time happened in the absence of any state institutions, which Al-Qaeda exploited,” said Zinjibar resident Fadl Mohammed Mubarak.

Jaar and Zinjibar are about 50 km (30 miles) east of the main port city of Aden, where President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi is currently staying after returning from Saudi Arabia last month.

Parts of Abyan including Zinjibar and Jaar fell to Islamist militants in 2011 for over a year as government control waned during Arab Spring protests.

No help despite warning to government

This time, Yemen’s northern Houthi clan and forces loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh are fighting against the Saudi-led Arab coalition and fighters loyal to Hadi.

On Wednesday, local militia commander Abdullatif Al-Sayed, said his forces tried to repel the attacks. He said he had tried to alert government officials to what he thought were suspicious Al-Qaeda movements, but had received no help.

Fighters allied with Hadi, backed by the Saudi-led coalition, retook Aden from the Houthis in July, but residents have complained of lawlessness in the city as masked Islamist gunmen appeared on its streets.

Jaar has in past years lost civilians in air strikes intended for militants, and during a visit by Reuters to Jaar in late 2013, sympathy for militants was still evident. Tribal leaders have often warned US drone attacks on Al-Qaeda were creating sympathy for the group.

Soddy war birds hit Sanaa
Arab coalition warplanes raided positions controlled by the Iranian-backed coup rebels in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Tuesday, a news network reported on Wednesday.

The raids came as the national army and resistance fighters announced they have completed preparations to attack the Houthis and their allies in the Southern Shabwa governorate expel them from Bihan town.

The raids by the coalition jets targeted the Presidential Palace area and Jebel Al Nahdayn, where the Houthis and their allies are deployed, Mareb Press said.

It quoted residents in Sanaa as saying several jets struck targets in those areas at around 2.00 pm local time and that large palls of smoke were seen billowing.

“The planes also attacked a rebel missile brigade in Attan area in Western Sanaa,” the report said without giving details of losses.

In Shabwa, the national army and the resistance announced that they have completed military preparations to attack the rebel-controlled Bihan.

Mareb Press quoted a military spokesman as saying the imminent offensive is intended to seize the town and eject the Houthis and forces loyal to deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh. It noted that Bihan is the last rebel base in Shabwa after the insurgents were thrown out of all other areas.

Syed Farook is religious, sez Dad
One of the suspects in Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif. has been identified as Syed Farook, according to reports. Farook was linked to the horrific slaughter that took place at the Inland Regional Center, according to NBC News.

After police announced that two suspects — a male and a female — were dead following a car chase and shoot out with police, a search began at a nearby Redlands apartment linked to the suspects.

A man who identified himself as Farook’s father told the Daily News his son worked as a health technician inspecting restaurants and hotels.

“I haven’t heard anything. He worked in a county office,” Farook's dad told The News. “He’s married and has a kid. We’re estranged because my wife got the divorce, and they are together. She doesn’t want to see me.”

Farook said he hasn’t seen his son in some time.

“He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.”

Regarding that couple, there are now questions about the timing of their marriage. Their child–whom they left with relatives–was reportedly born in May, but they were only married earlier this year, reportedly. That raises questions about a premarital liaison–or perhaps about a sham marriage arranged for other reasons, perhaps for a pretext for Malik to be in the country. Still unclear.

#24  CNN doing its usual weasling. FBI reports he was in touch with international terror groups. CNN says,"but workplace dissatisfaction" may have also contributed". They just can't bring themselves to admit their narrative is bogus.

#25  They just can't bring themselves to admit their narrative is bogus.

Because, if you take away the narrative, what's left?

#26  Is Visa Express back again? Were some wheels greased?

"In July 2014 [Farooq] returned from overseas with Malik, who was on a Pakistani passport. They later married, and she was here on a K-1 visa for fiancés."

#27  Motive is important, and if the motive is a belief system, then yes it is different than a crazy kid with mommy issues.

Take that guy down in Oklahoma a little ways back. Did he 'go postal' and start cutting former employers' heads off, or did he plan a dire revenge.

It makes a difference as to what charges they can press against the one captured. I have been told some insurance policies have terrorism clauses, would make a difference there as well. Makes a difference to the victims' families as well for coping or closure.

Like Deacon said, that is too many people and too much stuff to think this happened because somebody took his Swingline stapler.

#28  Thanks Pappy. I was under the impression he married her over there and the brought her back here.

#29  I was under the impression he married her over there and the brought her back here.

Reports are that he did marry her in Saudi Arabia. Probably gamed the system by saying she was his fiancé and married her again in the US, since a Saudi marriage might have raised flags.

Oh, and it seems that U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch has taken charge of the San Bernardino investigation. So we now have "top people" working on it...

Interesting indeed. Appears the Champ's 'workplace violence' theory is kaput. Any Saudi royal family connections? Inquiring minds, etc, etc.

Now Loretta proves her worth.

#32  I certainly hope we don't soon discover that Farook was part of an 'FBI sting' operation gone terribly bad.

I believe I read somewhere he was targeting someone specifically, a betrayer possibly? With all the ammo, IED materials, and explosive discovered, appears he had much greater plans in store than a suicidal employment shoot'em up.

#33  No doubt Loretta is working the angles to blame it on the Tea Party and Conservatives.

If only we gave him a job! (oops... he had one...)

#34  I just find it interesting that:

There was essentially a US domestic news blackout for almost a day. Yes, there was and continues to be misinformation, as per any event like this. But the volume of 'news' was at an uncharacteristically subdued level and practically non-existent in the San Bernardino area.

SBPD and the Sherriff's Department were able to locate (per a "tip") the residence and the vehicle very quickly

The FBI's LA office was on scene within a very short period of time

CAIR had both located the brother-in-law and held a news conference at their offices, and issued a condemnation, three or so hours after the attack

The DOJ is involved - at the USAG level - in a little over 24 hours

#35  Maybe Champ is getting a little concerned that he might have a credibility problem.

#36  When the FBI says [paraphrasing] "Farook was in contact with known potential terrorist persons of interest, but those persons of interest cases had been closed"......my bullshi* meter begins to vibrate.

#37  Domestic version of Benghazi. Several agencies need room to sanitize their involvement.

#38  Watching CNN (ugh) in the Munich area, it appears that (reluctantly) they are coming around (glacial speed) to the idea of terrorism.
The garage full of boom material kind of blows holes in Champ's gun control narrative, huh? (no pun intended).

Iraq
7 Peshmerga killed by booby trapped home in Shingal area
[Rudaw] Seven Peshmerga were killed and one maimed by kabooms in a home in Shingal that was booby trapped by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) forces before they pulled out of the area, a Kurdish official said.

"In the village of Jidara, 25 kilometers west of Shingal city, a bomb remaining in one of the abandoned homes went kaboom!, killing seven Peshmerga and wounding one," Shingal Mayor Mahma Khalid told Rudaw by phone.

In the liberation of Shingal, "we did not have such a big loss of life as we had today," he added.

In mid-November, Peshmerga forces backed by US-led coalition Arclight airstrikes drove ISIS out of Shingal in a matter of 48 hours. Since then, "the village is in the hands of the Peshmerga," Khalil said.

Hundreds of bombs by disposal teams have been defused since Shingal was liberated and "they are still working hard to defuse them all," he said.
