Iraq
Turkish Army hits PKK targets in northern Iraq
[Hurriyet] The Turkish Armed Forces staged a cross-border aerial campaign in northern Iraq to hit outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets in the Kandil Mountains amid tensions with the central government in Baghdad over The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's deployment of troops near djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
According to a statement by the Turkish General Staff, 10 F-16 fighter jets launched an attack between 10 p.m. and 10:50 p.m. on Dec. 8.

"PKK targets in the Kandil, Hakurk, Zap and Avasîn-Basyan regions in northern Iraq were destroyed in an aerial campaign," the statement said.
An Nahar adds:
The air bombardments "destroyed" targets of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in several northern Iraqi regions including its main stronghold on Qandil mountain, the army said in a statement. Dahmat Agit, a PKK front man in Iraq, said the strikes started late on Tuesday at around 11:00 pm (2000 GMT).

"They lasted about an hour and targeted three villages," he said, adding that no PKK members were killed in the raid. A local Kurdish official also said the strikes had caused no casualties but he reported serious damage to water and electricity infrastructure and crops.

Separately, a policeman was killed by sniper fire as he tried to defuse an bomb in the Sur district of Diyarbakir province, which has been under military curfew for eight days.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has been waging a relentless offensive against PKK strongholds in the southeast of the country and in northern Iraq following the collapse in July of a two-year truce with rebels. In response the PKK -- blacklisted as a terrorist organization by Turkey and much of the international community -- has hit back hard, killing dozens of police and soldiers in almost daily bomb and gun attacks.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hizbullah Kills 9 Nusra Fighters in Arsal Outskirts, Including Top Official
Doing something useful to protect their country from real bad guys for a change, instead of picking a fight with Israel.
[AnNahar] Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
on Wednesday killed an al-Qaeda commander and eight of his men in an attack on their convoy along the Lebanese-Syrian border, the group's media said.

Al-Manar television said the convoy of al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front fighters had been traveling on the outskirts of the restive Lebanese border town of Arsal when Hizbullah struck.

"The resistance (Hezbollah) fighters targeted the convoy of al-Nusra Front official Abu Firas al-Jubbeh... after carefully monitoring its movements," the station said.

Abu Firas and three Islamist fighters were killed immediately and when al-Nusra holy warriors tried to retrieve the bodies, Hizbullah opened fire anew killing the other five.

Al-Manar broadcast footage of the arid, rocky terrain where the fighters were targeted and said festivities also erupted between the two sides during which automatic weapons and mortar rounds were used.

The station said that the Lebanese army also fired on al-Nusra positions in the area.

According to state-run National News Agency, the army fired heavy-caliber artillery at movements and gatherings of holy warriors in Wadi Hmeid and Wadi al-Kheil in Arsal's outskirts, reportedly causing casualties.

The festivities come just eight days after al-Nusra freed 16 Lebanese soldiers and police it captured more than a year ago from Arsal.

The swap deal partially ended a long-running hostage crisis, but nine other servicemen taken prisoner at the same time are still held by the Islamic State

Only 30% of Russia Strikes Target IS in Syria, Says U.S.
And yet they have been more effective with their 30% than America has been with our almost 100% (we also went after that Al Qaeda special unit that wasn't Al Nusra at all a couple of times). For the rest, one imagines they've also gone after Al Nusra, Muslim Brotherhood affiliates, Turkey-supported Turkmen, and so forth, worthy targets in their own right.

following economic sanctions after the Nov. 24 downing of a Russian SU-24 fighter jet by Turkey near the Syrian border.

14 helicopters to Armenia
Russia sent 14 helicopters to Armenia and deployed them to the Erebuni Air Base near the capital Yerevan on Dec. 8. Seven of these helicopters are armored Mi-24 attack helicopters and the others are Mi-8 model transport helicopters.

The number of Mi-24 attack helicopters could reach 15 by the end of the year.

Submarines to Mediterranean
Russia has sent a submarine called the "Rostov-on-Don" to the Mediterranean Sea, where Russia also houses a naval base in Tartus. The "Rostov-on-Don" has been equipped with Caliber cruise missiles.

Russia had previously sent two submarines and the "Moskva" cruiser carrying an air defense system similar to S-300 missiles to Eastern Mediterranean.

The Hmeymim Air Base
Russia has been using the Hmeymim Air Base outside Latakia, one of the strongholds of the regime of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
There are an estimated 55 fighter jets in the base, including SU-30 fighter jets and SU-24, 2U-25 and SU-34 bombers along with seven Mi-24 and five Mi-8 helicopters.

The air defense systems of the base include Pantsir-S1, Buk-M2, S-200, Pechora-2M and S-400 batteries. The electronic Krasukha platform, which jams radar-guided systems, has also been deployed to the Hmeymim.

There are also an estimated 15 tanks and 30 armored personnel vehicles in the base.

Kerry: 'Our Coal-Fired Power Plants Have to Begin to Phase Out'
[CNSNEWS] Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
told a Gay Paree audience that "our coal-fired power plants have to begin to phase out."

At an event hosted by the tech site Mashable along with the U.N. Foundation on Monday, Kerry said: "President B.O. has put in place one of the most ambitious national climate action plans in the world. We've doubled our car efficiency and truck--We're requiring our coal-fired power plants have to begin to phase out."

Kerry made the statements while discussing the impact the private sector and the marketplace will have on carbon emissions.

"It's the private sector, the next Elon Musk or Steve Jobs is going to find a way to do battery storage for alternative and renewable energy, or we're going to find a way to burn energy, or maybe this dream of fusion is going to be accelerated and actually have a commercial viability," Kerry said.

"I don't know the answer, but I have absolute confidence in the ability of capital to move where the signal of the marketplace says 'go' after Gay Paree.
"Signal of the market place"? That's a little market for you, isn't it Jahwn? Your minders will not approve, and ValJar will slap you around when you get home. Not to mention Tay-rasa...

#5  It is a bad idea to phase out coal-fired power plants but then Kerry and Obammer have a lot of bad ideas. Where they going to get the replacement power from the shut down plants? Solar? Not likely. Water? I don't see any call for new dams to be built due to the environmentalists. Wind? That's not going so well and it's good only when there is a wind available. Nuclear? #14  Meanwhile, China is building 155 new coal-fired power plants on its standard design. Kinda negates everything, especially when they will be run approx 50% capacity. How does that factor in your global-warming equation, Jawn?

HERE are some cost breakdowns on nuclear vs coal fired power plants.

HERE is a site discussing nuclear power versus other sources such as oil, natural gas, and coal.

The problem with O&Co's unicorn fart approach to energy is that we don't have a transition to get out of coal. The near term solution would be to convert to natural gas from coal. I do not know the logistics of this and where we are. You have a bunch of people at the top that have NO background in physics and engineering making decisions that have serious consequences to the US economy and security. Pro-ISIL fighters take town near Kenyan border
Reports reaching us from the border town of Dhobley indicate that pro-Islamic state fighters have wrested full control of a village lies near Somali-Kenyan border. The militants who were heavily armed with machine-guns and rocked propelled grenades reportedly seized Tulo-Barwaqo peacefully after Jubbaland forces have withdrawn from the village.

The capture of Tulo Barwaqo becomes the first ground in Somalia taken by the militants who recently switched allegiance to the Islamic state in Iraq and Syria (ISIL).

In recent months, there has been a growing row that broke out within the Al Shabaab over whether to maintain ties to Al Qaeda or switch allegiance to Islamic State (IS).

Abdul Aziz's jihadlings
[NATION.PK] Tashfeen Malik, the female shooter in the San Bernardino attack that killed 14 last week, is believed to have links with Abdul Aziz's Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
. Or at least that's what US officials are being reported to have conveyed to the Pak government representatives in a recent meeting in London. Insiders confirm that evidence was provided to the Pak contingent showcasing Tashfeen's affiliation with Lal Masjid, coupled with the unsaid, and yet deafening, call to 'do more'.

Believing that Tashfeen Malik was sent by Lal Masjid holy man Abdul Aziz on a terror mission to Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, would be generous overestimation of the madrassa's reach, if not aspirations. More crucially though, buying the interior ministry's off the record claims that Aziz is 'no longer a threat' domestically, is underestimation of the same.

The Grand Turk
Plan to exclude Turkey from Mideast power struggle
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Anyone who thinks the Iraqi government's outburst, the first of its kind since the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime, is entirely against the presence of Turkish forces on Iraqi soil is wrong. The total number of Turkish troops is 150 military personnel, and they are present in the vicinity of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, which ISIS has been occupying for a year and a half now.

And anyone who thinks the escalating Russian threats against Turkish troops on the borders with north Syria are only against the Turks is also wrong, as this border area is a zone where armies and militias from across the world are competing.

Iran, Iraq and Russia's mounting aggravation against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
implies this is a plan to curb Turkey and cancel its regional role, so that Tehran can become the decision-maker in Iraq and Syria, thus achieving its project without anyone confronting it in the region. This has been happening in a five-year crisis that has seen the U.S. retreat, and do nothing except issue statements of solidarity.

Mosul troops
The Turkish battalion present outside Mosul arrived there at the invitation of the former governor of Mosul for the purpose of training the city's young men who volunteered to defend their city after Iraqi government forces fled, and Lions of Islam entered the governorate's countryside. Mosul was left to ISIS, and the Popular Mobilization Forces did not choose to liberate it since the latter consists of sectarian Shiite militias and was actually formed by Iran as an alternative to the Iraqi army. It is therefore Iran who actually trains, equips and directs them.

US visas get new scrutiny after California, Paris attacks
[DAWN] Visas used by foreigners to travel to the United States are getting new scrutiny in the wake of shooting massacres in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and La Belle France.

House politicians passed legislation on Tuesday tightening controls on visa-free travel and requiring visas for anyone who has been in Iraq or Syria in the previous five years.

Some politicians said they also planned to re-examine a visa that Tashfeen Malik used to come to the country. She is the Pak woman who helped her American husband carry out the San Bernardino attack that killed 14 people.

Coalition jets launch over 60 raids on rebels
Arab coalition warplanes launched more than 60 raids against coup rebel positions in the central Marib governorate in one day while they continued their attacks against the insurgents in Taiz.

The raids targeted positions of the Iranian-backed Houthis and their allies in the Western and Southern hills surrounding Sirwah town in Marib, the Saudi 'Al Arabiya' news network said.

In a report from conflict-battered Yemen, it said coalition jets also pounded rebel targets in the Southwestern Taiz city to back an offensive by the national army and the resistance to expel the insurgents from the governorate.

“The raids in Taiz targetted the Army Brigade 35 camp, the central prison area and the Eastern outskirts of the city,” the report said.

It quoted military sources as saying the army and resistance fighters pressed on with their ground attacks against the rebels in Taiz and advanced in Al Rahida and Dhabab fronts on Tuesday.

In Merais front in the Southern Al Dale governorate, the resistance repulsed an attack by the Houthis and their allies after heavy fighting.

3 Palestinians arrested in Afula with large knives, no ID
[IsraelTimes] Suspects found to be illegal entrants from West Bank city of Jenin

Police officers in the northern Israeli city of Afula incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
three Paleostinians on Wednesday evening who were found carrying large knives and had no form of ID.

Local residents alerted police to the three, saying they behaved in a suspicious manner.

All three Paleostinians were in Israel illegally, police said.

After the calls began to come in from residents, officers launched a thorough search of the area. When they located the suspects, the officers saw one of the three immediately throw away what turned out to be a large knife.

A search of the three turned up two more identical knives. During questioning, it emerged that two of the Paleostinians were minors and all were residents of the West Bank city of Jenin. The knives had a blade 23 centimeters (9 inches) in length.
Good kitchen knives are expensive. After this round of excitements, the economy should get a nice little boost as all the stolen knives are replaced.

Suspected militants blow up abandoned church in Yemen's Aden
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Suspected gunnies blew up a deserted Catholic church Wednesday in Yemen's second city Aden, where Islamist gunnies have gained ground in recent months, security officials and witnesses said.

Four gunnies shouting "holy shit! Allahu akbar" (God is greatest) detonated explosives at the church in the Muala residential district of the southern port city.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but a police source said there were suspicions gunnies from either the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group or Al-Qaeda were behind the destruction of the church.

Residents said the kaboom completely destroyed the small church, which was attached to a cemetery and built in the 1950s when Aden was a British protectorate.

Like many other Christian churches in Aden, the building had been abandoned for many years, residents said.

Of the 22 churches that operated in Aden when the city was a British colony before 1967, only a few remain open, used rarely by foreign workers and African refugees.

In September, masked arsonists torched the Saint Joseph Catholic church in the central Crater neighborhood of Aden.

Al-Qaeda gunnies have been accused of several attacks since pro-government forces pushed Iran-backed rebels out of the battle-scarred city in July with support from a Saudi-led coalition.

ISIS media activity has declined under international bombardment: Egypt's Dar El-Ifta
[AlAhram] ISIS bad boy group's media activity is facing a drop off as air strikes by the US-led coalition, the Syrian air force, and Russian warplanes have reduced the group's media capabilities, Egypt's Dar El-Iftaa Monitor for Extremist Fatwas said on Wednesday.

"Military strikes, and the resulting human and material losses, have impaired ISIS's media capacity," the monitor said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Their losses are directly reflected in their (ISIS) media activity, as much of its information infrastructure was brought down," the statement explained.

Unlike other terrorist organizations, ISIS is widely known for its usage of varied forms of media activity, such as its own English monthly magazine "Dabaq" and its social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

The monitor says that after following 30 media platforms affiliated with the terrorist organization, it became obvious that ISIS activity is facing a decline compared to the previous quarter.

"Following our observation, we witnessed a decline in quantitative and qualitative information materials published and broadcasts by the organization," added the monitor of Egypt's top authority that issues edicts to Muslims.

"When the terrorist group was at peak violence, their performance was very active on social media, and that was the case by the end of year 2014 and the beginning of 2015 when ISIS military strength was on top, but when the decline took place in the last three months, their media activity declined as well," the statement added.

The monitor estimates that 63 percent of ISIS media content in general are photos and 20 percent are videos, adding that when the group gains full control of a territory, it releases non-military-related photos and images.

"From June 2015 until September 2015, ISIS released around 3217 photos from Syria and 3762 from Iraq, but from October to December the group released 2500 photos from Syria and 2700 photos from Iraq, while videos declined from 728 in August to 500 in October," the statement added.

The monitor estimates that the aforementioned figure shows that ISIS is more influential in Syria than Iraq.

The Syrian town of Raqqa, which is now claimed by ISIS as its capital, is frequently the target of air strikes by the US-led coalition, as well as the Syrian air force and Russian warplanes that began an air campaign in Syria in late September.

Europe
Eleven migrants drown off Greek island
This is getting to be a sad, sad "dog bites man" story. Some updated numbers at the end.
At least 11 migrants, including five children, drowned and about 10 were missing after their boat sank overnight off the Greek island of Farmakonisi, Greek maritime police said Wednesday.

Twenty-six people were saved and a search was under way in the southeastern Aegean Sea for other survivors from the capsized wooden boat. The dead also included two women and four men.

A Greek army helicopter was pressed into service with a vessel from the European Union's border agency Frontex to aid the search, they said.

Witnesses said the boat had sunk despite a calm sea and feeble winds.

On Tuesday, at least six children died when a boat carrying Afghan migrants sank in Turkish waters while on its way to Greece. The Turkish coastguard recovered the bodies of the children, including a baby, and were still looking for two other migrants reported missing, the official Anatolia news agency said. The inflatable dinghy sank in strong winds and high waves near the town of Cesme in western Izmir province, Anatolia said. It was apparently heading for the Greek island of Chios.

More than 886,000 migrants have arrived in Europe by sea so far this year, according to the latest UN figures. Of them more than 650,000 - for the most part refugees from war-torn Syria - have undertaken a sea journey from Turkey to Greece to enter the European Union.

#1  Musharraf was Pakistan General Zia's fair-haired boy when the dictator initiated the revolt against India in Kashmir. And Sheikh Mubarak Ali Shah Gilani -- a school teacher and prolific author on Islamic themes and a man who was elected to the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Assembly in 1972 and 1977 -- was Musharraf's tool.
Gilani was expelled from Pakistan in 1980 for instigating violence in Kashmir without military consent.
In the USA Gilani founded both the Muslims of the Americas foundation and the Quranic Open University which then formed branches in the United States, Canada and Pakistan.
Gilani was reported present at the seminal conclave of Islamist terrorists held in Chicago in 1990. And before returning to Kashmir in 1993 Gilani also created in the US the Jamaat al Fuqra (Community of the Impoverished), at the time the most violent of the "Muslim fundamentalist" movements in the United States.
Gilani was welcomed in Pakistan because he rejected the Pak movement that called for Jammu&Kashmir independence. He argued that neither China nor India -- let alone Pakistan -- would ever permit it.
Years later India actually allowed Gilani to make his home in Kashmir, where long in the tooth, he was until recently considered the Muslims most popular resistance leader. From middle to old age he remained a tool of the Pak military ISI, and a close friend to Musharraf.

US vows to double cash for poor to deal with climate change
[ARABNEWS] The United States vowed Wednesday to double the money it spends helping poorer countries deal with the immediate effects of climate change.
Because we own the finest printing press in the world, bar none.
"We will not leave the most vulnerable nations among us to, quite literally, weather the storm alone," Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
told the UN climate summit in Gay Paree.
Congress approved this?
American officials said the US budget for so-called climate "adaptation" would double from around $430 million in 2014 to more than $800 million by 2020.

The increase would not come at the cost of Washington's existing climate commitments, but Congress will be asked to re-prioritise State Department and Treasury budgets.
Ah. Congress has not approved this, or even been presented with it.
The extra funding will be used for grant-based support for countries, a bigwig said, including schemes to protect mangrove forests or improve local weather forecasts.

"Obviously, the world's largest economies -- including the United States -- need to play a major role," Kerry said. "That's just common sense. That's why the United States has pledged $3 billion to the Green Climate Fund."
No, actually. The American president's Second Smartest Man in the Room has made commitments neither he nor the president can be sure will be kept.

Dawood Ibrahim's assets in India to be auctioned by govt
[DAWN] MUMBAI: An Indian government auctioneer will sell on Wednesday farmland, a restaurant and even a car which officials say once belonged to the country's most wanted man, runaway Mumbai underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Indian police have been unable to trace him for decades, but for as little as $60, bidders can snap up a car he purportedly owned - a 15-year-old green Hyundai Accent sedan now parked in a working-class Mumbai suburb.

The properties, confiscated more than a decade ago, make up only a tiny fraction of Ibrahim's assets. Some have already been put up for sale but remain mostly unwanted, as buyers stay away.

On Wednesday, a crowd had gathered outside a down-at-heel south Mumbai hotel where the auction was taking place, kept outside by tight security.

Ibrahim reportedly runs a crime syndicate which Indian authorities accuse of engaging in murder, extortion and weapon-smuggling.

He is also accused of financing Islamist bully boy groups and of criminal masterminding bomb and grenade attacks in Mumbai in March 1993 that killed 257 people and maimed more than 700.

Ibrahim fled India in the 1980s and has since eluded the authorities, although the arrest last month of a former partner in Indonesia - Rajendra Nikalje, known as Chhota Rajan - is thought to be part of a strategy to hunt him down.

The Indian government has battled for years to confiscate properties held not only by Ibrahim but by his relatives in Mumbai, and has been held up by repeated appeals.

Issues solved through talks, not wars: Fazl-ur-Rehman

(JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
today said, globally issues were solved just only through negotiations and dialogues.

Talking to media outside the Parliament House he said, dialogue ensures optimum way to resolve the issues between India and Pakistain as no problem can be addressed through war.

He said that the Heart of Asia Conference, hosted by Pakistain and attended by high-ranking delegations from 14 participating states, 17 supporting countries, 12 international and regional organizations, and foreign ministers from ten countries, was a positive development to address different regional and bilateral issues.

He said it was an appropriate platform to understand point of views of the participant countries, on important regional as well as international issues. He said that Pakistain has important role in the region and all participant countries have endorsed the fact, by fully attending the conference.

To a question, he said, "it is our point of view that India should not have right and option to start and stop the dialogue process." To another question, he expressed the hope that presence of Indian Foreign Minister in Pakistain would help resume the stalled dialogue process between the two neighboring countries.

Broken Clock: ISIS releases 25 Christian hostages in north Syria
Hurrah -- the ransoms have been deposited! The brothers will feast tonght, and all the sisters will get sexy nighties!
[ARA News] KOBANE – The Islamic State group (ISIS) released on Wednesday a new batch of Assyrian Christian hostages who have been captured by the group in the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah in February.

The Assyrian Network for Human Rights (ANHR) said in a statement that 25 Christian hostages were released by ISIS and arrived to their hometown of Tel Temir in the countryside of Hasakah on Wednesday.

“A bus carrying 25 Assyrian hostages has arrived in Tel Temir. They were received by the archbishop Afram Ithnael and a number of Assyrian figures,” the network reported.

The source added that 14 of the hostages were from the village of Tel Shamiram, 10 others were from the village of Tel Jazeera and one of them was from the village of Qabr Shamiya. Those villages are located in the vicinity of Tel Temir town.

In February, militants of the Islamic State stormed a number of Christian villages in the area. Subsequent to fierce clashes with Kurdish forces and allied Assyrian fighters, the radical group took more than 230 civilians as hostages before its withdrawal.

ISIS has earlier released several batches of Christian hostages after negotiations with Assyrian figures, supported by Arab tribal mediators in Hasakah province.

14 killed as Egypt floods smuggling tunnels
Palestinian Authority news agency Ma'an reports that 14 Gazans are "missing," following the flooding of a smuggling tunnel with seawater by Egyptian military forces.
Q: what do you call 14 Hamas tunnel rats drowned in their own tunnels?
A: a good start.
Gazan rescue teams rescued seven tunnel workers, but were unable to locate 14 others. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning near Rafah, on the Egypt-Gaza border. Initial reports that the Civil Defense had established contact with the 14 turned out to be false.

Ma'an managed to indirectly blame the apparent deaths on Israel, saying that the smuggling tunnels under the Egyptian border "have served as a lifeline to the outside world for [Gaza] since Israel imposed a crippling siege on the coastal enclave in 2007."
Too bad the Gazooks didn't consider in advance what would happen if they abused the Egyptians' trust...
Ma'an acknowledged that the tunnels enable not only the delivery of food, medicine and other supplies – hundreds of truckloads of which Israel allows in daily – but also weapons. They also serve as an important source of tax revenue for Hamas.
So in other words Hamas is lying. Again.
The tunnels also serve as a conduit for anti-Egyptian terrorists to Sinai. As a result, Egypt has flooded hundreds of tunnels in the area, and has cleared out thousands of residents to build a 500-meter-wide buffer zone. Just yesterday, four Egyptian policemen were killed and four others were wounded when a roadside bomb was detonated under their armored vehicle in Rafah.
Time for the new canal from the Med to the Gulf of Aqaba...
Israel, of course, is particularly sensitive to Hamas tunnels, hundreds of which have been built under the Israel-Gaza border over the years. IDF soldier Gilad Shalit was kidnapped in June 2006 through one of them – and two soldiers were killed at the same time. Other murderous attacks have also been waged in Israel by terrorists arriving via such tunnels.

Over a year ago, it was discovered that Hamas had planned a mega-terror attack by sending 200 fighters through the tunnels into Israel to simultaneously attack various targets throughout southern Israel, including kidnapping and murdering civilians.

Dig a ditch from the Med to south of Gaza. Make it big enough to take medium-sized commercial vessels. Build a port on both sides at the end - one in Egypt, the other in Israel. That will pay to keep the channel open, and enrich both Egypt and Israel. It will also end the Gaza tunneling permanently.

Arabia
Soddys to send anti-terror force to Yemen
Saudi Arabia, which is leading an Arab coalition fighting to end an Iranian-backed coup in Yemen, is planning to send a force to combat terror in Aden, Yemen’s provisional capital, a Saudi newspaper has reported.

The move had been planned a few weeks ago and is not a response to the assassination of Aden’s governor Jaafar Mohammed Saad, 'Makka' daily said.

“The force will be deployed in Aden in the next few days.

“It is intended to fight terror and bolster Arab and Yemen forces there,” the paper said.

It quoted Saudi sources as saying Riyadh decided to send the force as part of its “leading role” in the Arab coalition to maintain security and peace in liberated areas.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other Arab members of the coalition already have troops in Aden, the temporary home of the legitimate government.

Saudi Arabia is the dominant member in the Arab coalition launching a military campaign to quell the coup and restore the legitimate regime.

The other members are the Gulf states of the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain as well as Egypt, Morocco, Jordan and Sudan.

9 al Nusra elements die near Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – At least nine militants of al-Qaeda branch in Syria, al-Nusra Front, were killed in renewed clashes with Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo, military sources reported on Wednesday.

Clashes broke out between the Kurdish fighters and Nusra militants in Afrin region in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where Kurds pounded Nusra positions with heavy weapons.

Similar clashes took place in the vicinity of Sheikh Maqsoud district in Aleppo city, where al-Nusra Front was forced to retreat under YPG’s heavy blows.

“A total of nine corpses of al-Qaeda (Nusra Front) terrorists were found subsequent to clashes in Afrin and Sheikh Maqsoud,” YPG spokesman in Aleppo Ammar Roumi told ARA News.

“Despite the heavy military support for al-Nusra by the Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham, our (YPG) units were able to impede their progress in the province (Aleppo) and forced them to evacuate some of their strongholds,” Roumi reported.

Two Kurdish fighters were hardly injured during the clashes on Wednesday, according to the YPG spokesman.

“We were able to destroy two Nusra cars loaded with heavy machine guns in the clashes,” the source added.

Militants of al-Nusra Front have been shelling the Sheikh Maqsoud district in Aleppo for weeks. Thousands of Kurdish civilians are stranded in the district amid intensifying clashes between the YPG units and the Islamist groups on the environs of Sheikh Maqsoud.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
'Trump has no idea how much Israel has expended on peace'
Jewish radio personality Nahum Segal, host of Jewish Moments in the Morning (commonly abbreviated as JM in the AM) and President of the Nachum Segal Network, explained the harsh reaction that the pro-Israel community had in response to GOP hopeful Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Israel not sacrificing enough for peace in an interview with Arutz Sheva.

“The pro-Israel community was very concerned about Trump’s comments because they seemed somewhat irresponsible,” Segal said. “When an American leader, especially someone like Donald Trump, who is a leader both in the business world and the political world, suggests that Israel has not done enough for the peace process, that is bordering on insulting.”

“The pro-Israel community cannot stress enough, how much effort Israel has expended on the peace-process. So for him to come out with a statement, one that seemed uneducated, stating that Israel has to do more, was seen in a very negative light,” Segal said.

The huff in the US pro-Israel community was created last Wednesday when Republican presidential candidate hopeful and front runner Donald Trump told the Associated Press that he has "a real question as to whether or not both sides [Israel and the Palestinians] want to make."

"A lot will have to do with Israel and whether or not Israel wants to make the deal - whether or not Israel's willing to sacrifice certain things," Trump told AP. "They may not be, and I understand that, and I'm OK with that. But then you're just not going to have a deal."

Trump refused to back down from his comments even under pressure on Thursday at a meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition. "I don't know that Israel has the commitment to make it, and I don't know the other side has the commitment to make it," Trump said.

Trump then antagonized the crowd even further by saying, "You're not going to support me even though you know I'm the best thing that could happen to Israel. I know why you're not going to support me: because I don't want your money - you want to control your own politicians."

Trump is scheduled to visit Israel towards the end of December, and meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

The Prime Minister's office said that the meeting was scheduled before Trump's recent comments and that the Prime Minister will meet with any candidate from any party in the upcoming US elections.

Students demand college rename 'Lynch' building because of racial overtones
[NYPOST] Protesters at a Pennsylvania college are demanding that the school rename a building called Lynch Memorial Hall because of the racial overtones of the word "lynch."

The group of students at Leb Valley College submitted a list of demands to the administrators, including nixing the name of the building devoted to the college's former president, Clyde A. Lynch.

"All of the hate at this school makes me want to cry," one student, Lacey Eriksen, wrote on Twitter about the protest.
All of the hate at this school makes me want to cry.

-- Lacey Eriksen (@FrolickingFatty) December 7, 2015
Student organizers said the college needed to address "institutional injustices" on the campus.

"It's a rare moment here at Leb Valley College," Michael Schroeder, an associate professor of history, told PennLive outside a recent demonstration.

The demonstration Schroeder spoke at was closed to photos and video by organizers who sought to create a "safe space," the site said.

A school front man called former president Lynch a "very important figure" in the history of the college. He is credited with guiding the school through the Great Depression.

Other demands by the group include a more diverse curriculum, more sensitivity training for staff and regular surveys of the racial climate on campus.

Benin deploys 800 troops for Boko Haram
[DAILYTRUST.NG] Benin Republic President Boni Yayi said his country was ready to send 800 troops to join Nigeria and other neighbouring nations in the ongoing fight against the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
insurgency.

Yayi stated this at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday during his one-day state visit to Nigeria.

Addressing State House correspondents, Yayi assured that Benin's 800 troops were battle ready and were awaiting their deployment.

Speaking through an interpreter, Yayi stated that Buhari took over the mantle of government "at a time terrorism occasioned by the activities of Boko Haram is high."

"To fight terrorism, Benin is ready to send about 800 men to join the men that are already prepared to fight terrorism. The team is battle ready for deployment. The will power is there and Benin is committed to deploying the men. Benin will always remain on the side of Nigeria in its trying times," he said.

Review‐The Decline and Fall of California: From Decadence to Destruction
Historian Victor Davis Hanson chronicles the sad decline of the once great state of California in his book, The Decline and Fall of California: From Decadence to Destruction. Clearly modeled on famous British historian Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Hanson's book makes it clear that the increasingly dystopian California has been the author of its own decline. A half-century of bad policy and failed ideology has reduced the Golden State to a shell of its former glory.
Much more at link. It's Breitbart, you know. Haven't read the book but the review jibes with a lot of what I've seen. I can tell you that there are still a lot of days in that narrow coastal enclave that are quite enjoyable even if you have to share the road with liberal bicyclists in their spandex. Arabia
Kingdom seeks political solution for Syria and Yemen
[ARABNEWS] King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
called on Wednesday for a political solution to end Syria's bitter five-year civil war that has fueled the rise of terror outfits and killed hundreds of thousands of men, women and kiddies.

"The Kingdom is currently hosting Syrian opposition groups at the moment in an effort to find a political solution," said the king in remarks at the opening session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit here.

King Salman also touched on key regional issues including Paleostine, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and the need to intensify efforts to fight terrorism. The king stressed the need for Gulf unity amid turbulence in the region. According to reports, the leaders of the GCC countries also discussed relations with neighboring Iran, economic integration and the situation in Syria, Iraq and Yemen after the inaugural session.

Referring to the joint resolve to restore peace and security in the region, King Salman called on the stakeholders to exert efforts to restore "the legitimate rights of the Paleostinian people to establish an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital." Regarding Yemen, King Salman said that the way to solve the Yemeni crisis is through cooperation and political means.

He said the "the coalition led by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is keen to achieve security and stability in war-torn Yemen under the leadership of its legitimate government." "We, the GCC states, support a peaceful solution to the crisis in Yemen in order to enable that country to overcome the conflict and then march toward peace and development," said the king, and referred to a possible solution built on the foundations of the national dialogue, the Gulf initiative, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

On the question of terrorism, King Salman called on the international community to "share responsibility in the fight against extremism and terrorism." "The Kingdom exerts great efforts to combat terrorism and will continue its efforts in cooperation with friendly countries in this regard," said the king, adding that "terrorism has no religion." He said Islam "is a religion of moderation," an apparent reference to those who are maligning the name of Muslims and Islam.

King Salman reiterated the need "to boost cooperation in all domains among the member states." The leaders of Gulf countries, who met later on Wednesday night, would reportedly hammer out a common strategy to fight the threats from Islamist extremism and plunging oil prices.

At Washington High, a teacher's beating is the final straw
[PHILLY] A brutal assault on a teacher at George Washington High School led to the removal Tuesday of the troubled school's principal, Philadelphia School District officials confirmed.

Hoping to quiet a culture of violent incidents, district officials reassigned Gene Jones a day after the attack, which occurred during third period Monday morning, midway through a ninth-grade biology lesson.

The classroom door - usually locked against intruders - was open, allowing a handful of students to walk paperwork across the hallway, according to someone with firsthand knowledge of the incident.

Afghanistan
Latest pictures show Isil training camp in Afghanistan
[Telegraph] The images show masked forces of Evil training near Afghanistan's mountainous border with Pakistain

Hooded forces of Evil pose with handguns and rocket-propelled grenade launchers. They wear camouflage print and the black flag of jihad flies in the background.

The latest pictures of forces of Evil from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) are familiar except for one twist. They were taken not in the deserts of Syria or Iraq, but in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan, where Isil's latest "province" spans the border with Pakistain.

Isil has declared the birth of "Wilayat Khorasan" -- or Khorasan province -- in the area of Afghanistan that was once al-Qaeda's heartland.

Existing radical groups, including the Haqqani network and factions of the Taliban, have declared allegiance to Isil. One training camp is named after "Sheikh Jalaluddin" -- or Jalaluddin Haqqani, the founder of the Death Eater network that carries his surname, who died last year.

The photographs, distributed on Twitter, show about 40 forces of Evil "graduating" after receiving weapons and fitness training. Isil now claims to have three such training camps in Afghanistan, one of which is named after the movement's leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
.
No doubt Rantburg's experts will get more information from the photos than I. But what I saw in the first photo was 19 men in very pretty blue camouflage versions of the native dress and ski masks -- which have to be dreadfully hot as well as severely limiting their ability to see -- trying their very best to do a single punch drill in horse stance, led by a trainer who absolutely did not know what he was doing: his shoulders were not square, his feet, knees, and back were all placed wrong for stability, and if he didn't have his thumbs neatly tucked within his fists, half the men probably did. For the rest, the trainees proved able to sit and stand neatly enough, and some even displayed trigger discipline, which is not the same as being able to do anything more warlike.

This is not only a unarmed CQC exercise, they are also training vest wearing range-of-motion.

The masks are hot yes, but they also conceal one's features not just from the cameras but also the training cohort. It may be intended that these people, the 'vesters' not recognize each other. Though in the final RPG photo, body language would suggest some do.

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group killed at least eight people near a Shiite mosque in eastern Baghdad on Wednesday, security and medical officials said.

The blast in the Obeidi area also maimed at least 19 people, the officials said.

ISIS claimed the attack in a statement posted online, saying a bomber identified as "Abu Salem" carried it out with an explosives-rigged belt.

ISIS considers Shiites to be heretics, and frequently targets them with bombings in crowded areas of the capital.

ISIS overran large areas north and west of Baghdad last year, and while Iraqi forces have retaken significant territory north of the capital, much of the country's west remains under bully boy control.

Bombings in Baghdad have become less frequent since the ISIS offensive last year, apparently because the jihadists have been occupied with fighting elsewhere.

by the Intelligence Directorate in the North over his ties to terrorist groups led by the runaways Mohammed Ahmed al-Satem, Oday Ahmed al-Moussa and others who move between Leb and Syria," the army said in a statement.

"They tried to help him enter Syria to fight alongside the terrorist groups there," it added.

The detainee confessed that under al-Satem's leadership, small groups were formed in the northern region of Wadi Khaled with the aim of targeting the Lebanese army.

They sought to "attack troops and create an appropriate atmosphere for the entry of the IS group into Leb through setting up a security zone connected to Khirbet Daoud in order to seize control of Wadi Khaled," the army statement said.

The IS cells "purchased weapons and prepared a number of caves to be launchpads for their operations," it added.

Among the arms they bought was a "mortar cannon aimed at targeting the army barracks in Wadi Khaled."

The detainee al-Ghazi also confessed that he was tasked with "carrying out a suicide kaboom in Tripoli

"Along with Tareq Mohammed Obeid, they tried to enter into Arsal and then into its outskirts with the aim of joining IS holy warriors there," the army added.

Meanwhile,

the General Security announced the arrest of the Syrian M. M. on charges of "involvement in terrorist activities, belonging to the terrorist IS group, and recruiting holy warriors to be sent to Syria to fight alongside the group."

"He also confessed to preparing to set up armed cells to carry out acts of sabotage in Leb in coordination with a Lebanese IS official in (Syria's) Raqa," a General Security statement said.

The man also took part in "overseeing and coordinating the moves of the holy warriors in the latest Tripoli battles against the Lebanese army, in addition to harboring gunnies fleeing the aforementioned festivities."

On Thursday, the army reportedly arrested four IS suspects after intercepting their van on the Zalka-Beirut highway.

Dozens of suspects were arrested across the country in recent weeks.

The massive crackdown followed an IS suicide kaboom in the southern Beirut suburb of Bourj al-Barajneh that killed 44 people and maimed around 240 others.

Terror suspect pleads guilty in planned attack on Guard base

him, Jonas Edmonds lied about his cousin's trip to Egypt. He told authorities, "He's going to visit a friend or wherever he's going. I don't know. Somebody. He's trying to move there."

But Jonas Edmonds knew that Hasan Edmonds had really set out to join Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. terrorists, according to Jonas Edmonds' 22-page plea deal with prosecutors. Not only that, but Jonas Edmonds had planned to disguise himself in Hasan Edmonds' uniform and attack the Guard base in Joliet where Hasan Edmonds had trained. He had hoped to kill as many as 120 soldiers, prosecutors have said.

Jonas Edmonds pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to provide material support to snuffies and lying to the feds about international terrorism. He now faces as many as 23 years in prison after admitting his guilt in front of U.S. District Judge John Lee. His sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 27.

Jonas Edmonds appeared in court dressed in orange jail scrubs. The hearing was not attended by his family. His lawyer, James Graham, said his wife and kids support him.

"He and his family are just happy to put this behind him," Graham said.

Graham also emphasized that Jonas Edmonds is not cooperating with prosecutors, in spite of his plea. Hasan Edmonds is set to plead guilty Monday.

Authorities found an Illinois National Guard drill schedule, as well as an "army jacket," "army shorts" and "military brown boots" when they searched Jonas Edmonds' townhouse, records show. He was arrested without incident March 25, around the same time authorities arrested his cousin at Midway Airport carrying a black backpack. Records show the backpack was filled with all-weather and camouflage notepads, a camera, a Koran and two books: "Fortress of the Muslim" and "The Covenant of the Flame."

Nobel peace laureates: Only dialogue will solve crisis in Syria, Libya
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Only dialogue can resolve the crises in war-torn Syria and Libya, Tunisian civil groups honoured with this year's Nobel Peace Prize said Wednesday on the eve of the awards ceremony in Oslo.
Yeah, blah blah blah. Tell it to Henry V. And Napoleon Bonaparte.
The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet
... The Quartet are the UN (xylophone), the United States (alto), the European Union (soprano), and Russia (shortstop). The group was established in Madrid in 2002 by former Spanish Prime Minister Aznar, as a result of the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Tony Blair is the Quartet's current Special Envoy....
was awarded the prestigious prize on October 9 for saving the country's transition to democracy at a sensitive moment in 2013 when the process was in danger of collapsing because of widespread social unrest.
Jan Sobieski could probably give you an opinion on the value of dialogue.
"Arms can never be a solution, not in Syria nor in Libya. There is a need for dialogue and no blood and no fighters," Abdessatar Ben Moussa, head of Tunisia's Human Rights League, told news hounds.

While the wave of Arab Spring uprisings has led to chaos in neighbouring Libya, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Syria, and to the return of repression in Egypt, Tunisia has been held up as a success story.

The country adopted a new constitution in January 2014 and held democratic elections at the end of last year.

"Tunisia is an exception so far in the Arab Spring countries but this doesn't mean that it may not be replicated in other countries," said Houcine Abassi, secretary general of the powerful Tunisian General Labour Union.

But almost five years after the overthrow of dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, the krazed killer threat weighs heavily over Tunisia's road to democracy.

Turkish PM accuses Russia of 'ethnic cleansing' in Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's prime minister accused Russia on Wednesday of attempted "ethnic cleansing" in northern Syria, saying Moscow was trying to drive out the local Turkmen and Sunni Muslim populations to protect its military interests in the region.

Ahmet Davutoglu's comments could further harm strained relations between Moscow and Ankara, already at their worst in recent memory after Turkish forces downed a Russian warplane near the Turkish-Syrian border late last month.

"Russia is trying to make ethnic cleansing in northern Latakia to force (out) all Turkmen and Sunni population who do not have good relations with the regime," Davutoglu told foreign journalists in Istanbul.

"They want to expel them, they want to ethnically cleanse this area so that the regime (of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
) and Russian bases in Latakia and Tartus are protected," he said, speaking English.

The Turkmens are ethnic kin of the Turks and Ankara has been particularly angered by what it says is Russian targeting of them in Syria.

Davutoglu said Russian bombing around Azaz, which is also in northwest Syria, was designed to cut supply lines to Syrian groups opposed to Assad, Moscow's ally, and ultimately to benefit Islamic State

Arrested: ISIS-supporting Ohio hospital worker who called for US soldiers to be beheaded in their homes
[DailyMail]
o Prosecutors say Terrence J. McNeil, 25, Akron was sympathetic to the Islamic State, federal indictment issued Tuesday said

o He posted names and addresses of 100 members of the military on social media, calling for them to be killed, prosecutors said

o Grand jury charged McNeil with three counts each of solicitation of a crime of violence and threatening military personnel

o US Attorney's Office front man said prosecutors are not aware of any attacks on service members named

Assistant U.S. Attorney General John Carlin said McNeil 'solicited the murder of members of our military by disseminating violent rhetoric, circulating detailed U.S. military personnel information, and explicitly calling for the killing of American service members in their homes and communities.'

'ISIL and its followers continue to use social media in an attempt to incite violence around the world, including in the United States,' he continued.

'The National Security Division's highest priority is counterterrorism and we will use all of our tools to disrupt threats and acts of violence against our military members and their families.'

The government said McNeil, a hospital employee, posted a file on his Tumblr account with the names and addresses of military personnel.

The posting urged 'Brothers in America' to 'kill them in their own lands, behead them in their own homes, stab them to death as they walk their streets thinking that they are safe,' according to the indictment.

Tobin said the information came from the Islamic State overseas, and McNeil reposted it.

He said he did not know where the information originated.

Mike Tobin, a front man for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone,
...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ...
, said prosecutors are not aware of any attacks on the service members named.

McNeil was locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
on November 11 after federal prosecutors charged him with a related count of solicitation to commit a crime of violence, court records show.

A call on Tuesday to his court-appointed attorney, Nathan A. Ray, rang unanswered, and Ray did not respond to an email seeking comment on McNeil's behalf.

On October 3, McNeil allegedly posted the address of the Navy Seal he believed killed al-Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
... who doesn't live anywhere anymore...
in 2011, calling him the 'number one target.'

'While we aggressively defend First Amendment rights, the individual arrested went far beyond free speech by reposting names and addresses of 100 U.S. service members, all with the intent to have them killed,' said Stephen D Anthony, special agent in charge of the FBI's Cleveland office.

'We will remain vigilant in our efforts to stop those who wish to support these despicable acts.'

Each solicitation count carries a sentence of 20 years in prison, and each threat count carries a maximum five-year sentence.

VICTORVILLE — A member of the Muslim community in the High Desert who attended the same mosque as a man arrested for allegedly chasing his neighbor with a sword early Tuesday told the Daily Press on Wednesday he did not believe the man was a radicalized Muslim.

Noel Khan told the Daily Press he had interacted with Mohamed Ahmed Elrawi, 57, several times when both men attended services at the High Desert Islamic Society mosque in Victorville. Khan said Elrawi has a history of erratic behavior and he believed Monday’s incident was driven primarily by mental instability rather than any religious or radicalization factors.

“Iman (Yousef Farha) said Elrawi was not mentally stable,” Khan said, referring to Farha’s comments to the Daily Press on Tuesday. “No one in the Muslim community (who knew Elrawi) would disagree with that.”

Elrawi was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder early Tuesday after he got into a dispute with the victim,

Arabia
Al Arabiya series to show never-seen-before footage of al-Qaeda
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A documentary series set to debut on Dec. 2 on the Al Arabiya News Channel reveals never-seen-before footage of al-Qaeda's operations in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the subsequent raids and crackdowns on the group by authorities.

Over a decade ago al-Qaeda shocked the Gulf peninsula and wider world when it attempted to launch a "bloody revolution" in Saudi Arabia by rigging a series of car kabooms.

In 2003 the then security chief Prince Mohammed bin Nayef launched a counter attack that would see a three-year security crackdown on the group, with thousands of its members thrown into prison.

At least 39 foreigners and Saudi nationals were killed and over 160 maimed during the attacks.

More than ten years on, a TV series on the attack is set to be aired by the Al Arabiya News Channel, promising an inside look into al-Qaeda after hours of footage from cameras and mobile phones were recovered and released by Saudi security officials.

Unlimited access
"What makes this series unique is the level of access we had after Saudi security forces helped us. We got footage that was confiscated after the raids that took place," Saudi War on Terror executive producer Adel AbdulKarim told Al Arabiya News.

"It also helped because these holy warriors were obsessed with filming themselves. They filmed their plannings, when they were in their safe houses and when they were on their way to operations. You see everything on tape," he added.

The Saudi executive producer told the Al Arabiya News Channel that the film was nearly three years in the making, after they gathered more than 1,300 hours of footage, many coming from personal video records, mobile phones and even 8mm films recorded by al-Qaeda members.

"The film has been in the making for nearly three years now. We cut the film into 150 minutes, which constitutes three television hours. While we tried to tell the story from a dramatic narrative, we wanted to tell it from all the angles possible -- but even then it's not enough because the audience is only getting the main headlines of the story," Abdulkarim said about how much more the footage they acquired reveals.

Understanding the psyche
The film's director and team of producers hope that their series will help Arab audiences understand the psyche behind the attackers and "prepare them for future possible attacks."

"ISIS is a continuation of al-Qaeda. But the series portrays the holy warriors in the light that they will always be active until the end of our lives -- whether in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, La Belle France or the United States. The series helps create an understanding of why men take the decision to attack and terrorize innocent people."

The documentary series, split into three episodes, was produced for the Al Arabiya News Channel by OR Media, a London-based independent production company.

For Western audiences, there is currently a feature-length cut of the film being negotiated for release in the United Kingdom and the U.S., Abdulkarim said.

Afghanistan
37 killed in Taliban siege at Khandahar airport
At least 37 people were killed and 35 others wounded when Taliban militants stormed Kandahar airport in southern Afghanistan, with one gunman still resisting security forces, the defence ministry said Wednesday.

"Nine insurgents have been killed, one other is injured and another one is still holding up against our forces," the ministry said.

"Unfortunately during the battle, 37 innocent Afghans were killed and 35 others injured," it added, without specifying how many of them were civilians.

Local residents said they had heard soldiers pleading with the insurgents to free women and children, who were screaming during the fighting that erupted shortly after sundown in the southern city on Tuesday.

One security official told AFP that the assailants held some civilians as "human shields", which had complicated their clearance operation.

The brazen raid on the sprawling compound, which also houses a joint NATO-Afghan base, is the second major Taliban assault in as many days in the city recognised as the birthplace of the Taliban.

The militants had managed to breach the first gate of the high-security complex and took up position in an old school building, engaging security forces in pitched firefights.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, with spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid saying on Twitter that "150 Afghan and foreign soldiers" had been killed in the fierce fighting.

From Tolo News:

Spokesman for the Kandahar Governor Samim Khpolwak said on Tuesday night: "The attackers entered Shaheed Padshah School and Teachers Training Center and started attacking the police and army compound."

Meanwhile, sources told TOLOnews on condition of anonymity on Tuesday night that the attackers entered the airport from its fifth gate, which is under tight security. They said no one can enter without showing an ID card.

Taliban insurgents have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iraq
ISIS executes 4 traitors
[ARA News] ERBIL – The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) has executed four of its own militants in the eastern Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor on charges of “treason”, local sources reported on Wednesday.

Two of the militants were beheaded for “leaking security information to the Syrian army”, the others were accused of trying to escape the battlefront in Deir ez-Zor.

“ISIS beheaded the four militants in a public square in central Deir ez-Zor and left their dead bodies on the ground until Wednesday midnight,” media activist Saray Addin told ARA News.

One of the beheaded militants was identified as Rami al-Sayo, a member of the ISIS-led Islamic Police. Another militant was identified as Hamid Madani, a member of al-Husba committee which is responsible for collecting taxes from shop owners in Deir ez-Zor.

“The other two militants, whose identities remained unknown, were executed for trying to escape a battlefield in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor,” Addin said.

The source pointed out that ISIS started executing its own militants in public to show its strict commitment to its own rules in front of people.

Europe
A far-right, pro-Israel France? Expert says this is where all of Europe is heading
[Jpost] The far-right National Front party made huge gains in French regional elections and could be a sign of a more pro-Israel Europe.

La Belle France went to the polls on Sunday in regional elections and the far-right National Front party, formerly known for its anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant stances but now known for its support of Israel and opposition to radical Islam, came out as a winner across the country.

The regional election outcomes are taken seriously since they are thought to be a bellweather for what will come when La Belle France votes in the 2017 national elections.

Though some have pinned the party's success on its occurrence so soon after the November 13 terror attacks in Gay Paree, one Israeli expert told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that La Belle France has been moving to the right for years and is part of an overall trend in Europe of far-right parties becoming the mainstream.

Dr. Esther Lopatin, director of the European Studies program at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, said that Europeans are frustrated by leaders who have ignored their concerns about rapid immigration and radical Islam on the continent.

So while National Front leader Marine Le Pen has gone to great lengths to show that her party is no longer anti-Semitic (even to the point of saying she is a Zionist and kicking out the party's founder, her own father, Jean-Marie Le Pen), Lopatin was careful to note that the party's fairly-recent rejection of anti-Semitism has not come from a sudden love of Jews, but rather from a realization that they share with the Jewish community a common enemy in radical Islam.

Lopatin said that other far-right parties in other parts of Europe that used to view the Jews as an enemy are now some of the most supportive of Israel as well.

"It's like they all of a sudden had the realization that the Jews are not really our enemies," Lopatin said of similar trends in other parts of the continent. "[Jews] contribute to society, they don't want to destroy our society or impose Shari'a law on our society. More and more people believe that."

"Europe is going through a makeover," she said, noting that overall voters are moving to the right politically because "the public is not happy." The voters for far-right parties, Lopatin said, used to be only racists but now include the average French voter "the type that would have voted for [former French president Nicolas] Sarkozy"

"They have the feeling that they have been deserted by the leadership who didn't take their concerns [about immigration and radical Islam] seriously," she said.

Regarding the sudden support for Israel, Lapotin said that "[Le Pen] understands that people would have voted for her if not for her father."

"Every time she has to vote regarding Israel, she usually votes in support ... and we saw that with the labels." Le Pen was among the minority that voted against the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
's Israeli settlement labeling policy.

Another factor contributing to the rise of the far-right is that the parties are becoming more sophisticated, Lopatin said. Wheras the senior Le Pen was an outright racist with unrealistic platforms, Lopatin described Marie Le Pen as being more diplomatic, realistic and reserved.

Given all this, why is the European Union still so harsh on Israel if it is moving to the right?

According to Lopatin, "it takes time to abandon a central mantra that the Europeans have believed for many many years ... that the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict is a problem and if this is solved, then we will live in a better world."

Assad 'has to quit or be ousted'
[ARABNEWS] The Syrian opposition groups meeting in the Saudi capital have been discussing ways to reach a common position ahead of possible peace negotiations with Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
's regime, according to reports.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir earlier welcomed the delegates and warned that Assad could be ousted militarily if he does not step down peacefully. He then left the gathering to allow the Syrians to continue their meeting on Wednesday.

The peace talks are expected by world powers to take place on Jan. 1. The Syrian opposition delegates want it to be held in the presence of Al-Jubeir.

The meeting, attended by some 100 delegates, also discussed terrorism, a cease-fire, reconstruction, and the role of the UN, according to reports.

The delegates want the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces to unify all anti-Assad groups, and ensure that a political solution is found to the conflict.

The talks are being chaired by Abdul Aziz Sager, a Saudi who heads the independent Gulf Research Center in Geneva.

While not all groups were invited, the closed-door meeting marks the first time a broad range of Syrian political and armed opposition factions have come together since the conflict started in 2011.

There has been a growing diplomatic push for a resolution to the Syrian conflict, which has killed more than 250,000 people and forced millions from their homes.

Tripoli, 8 December 2015:

Three people were also wounded in exchanges which set fire to the fuel tanks that power to 450 MW power station, which also burns gas. The dead and wounded were taken to Khoms Teaching Hospital.

The battle was between the Khoms Military Council and a militia calling itself the “Truth Martyrs” which is believed to be associated with the Al-Maawal family, three members of which are reported to have been killed in the exchanges.

State power utility GECOL is still working to make repairs and bring the station completely back on-line. It announced this morning that its technicians had got three of the five generating units working again but warned that it was likely that there would be further power cuts.

Syrians leave rebel-held Homs in truce deal
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Busloads of Syrians including rebel fighters left the last murderous Moslem-held area of Homs on Wednesday under a rare local truce agreement in Syria's nearly five-year conflict that will shore up government control over the city.

The rebels and their families are being moved to murderous Moslem-held areas of the northwest near the Turkish border under the deal, an example of the type of local truce U.S. President Barack Obama

has said could happen in Syria more frequently.

Homs was a centre of the uprising against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...
. The deal follows a major Syrian army ground offensive to the north of the city backed by Russian air strikes.

Witnesses saw 15 buses leave the area. Homs governor Talal al-Barazi told news hounds 300 fighters were on board, together with 400 members of their families. The fighters took with them light weapons, he said.

The deal echoes a local ceasefire agreed in September elsewhere in Syria under which rebel fighters were supposed to be transferred to Idlib, though it has yet to be fully implemented.

Several buses left the Homs district of Waer early on Wednesday and others were queueing up to leave on its outskirts, witnesses said. Children on buses waiting to leave peaked around the drawn curtains and aid workers handed out juice.

Barazi said the buses would make a stop in Hama province where rebels who wished to could disembark, before continuing to Idlib, a province that is a stronghold of bandidos murderous Moslems including the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front.

He described the rebels who left as "murderous Moslems who reject the agreement", saying they would leave with their families.

"The Waer neighborhood arrangements will be completely safe and there will be no weapons in Waer after the implementation of the agreement," he said adding security forces would go back to work in the area and would be the only ones armed.

Caribbean-Latin America
Idea of taking down Nicolas Maduro gains traction in Venezuela
[LATINO.FOXNEWS] Just a few days ago, when the opposition in Venezuela could only dream of an electoral victory -- not to say a landslide victory- that would finally give them an audible voice in the National Assembly, a foreign correspondent asked Julio Borges, one of the country's top opposition leaders, if the coalition would seek to remove President Nicolás Maduro from office in that hypothetical case.

"Let's not go crazy," he said with a smirk.

But then Sunday happened and, 48 hours later, the electoral board confirmed the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) obtained the 112 seats needed to get the supermajority and thus the constitutional power to sack Supreme Court justices, rewrite Hugo Chavez's 1999 constitution -- and, yes, initiate a referendum to revoke Maduro's mandate.

Now opposition leaders are discussing the idea openly and with gusto, after 17 years of uninterrupted Chavista rule. The notion of sacking Nicolás Maduro, an unpopular president elected by the narrowest of margins (1.5 percent) is gaining traction in Venezuela.

Before the election, polls gave the 53-year-old president a 27 percent approval.

The opposition's victory was so resounding that it has caused a crisis within Chavismo, with at least one former Maduro official, Eduardo Samán, publicly blaming the president for Sunday's defeat.

On Tuesday Caracas was buzzing with rumors regarding disaffected military leaders, the full cabinet ready to resign and even of political parties that had so far backed Maduro deserting the president.

Since his gloomy appearance on Sunday night, Maduro has remained holed up in the Miraflores Presidential Palace in downtown Caracas, reportedly trying to reach out to allies.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact...
many of the opposition heavyweights are saying that said they want presidential elections within a year.

"This government is just useless, I think this is a government whose countdown has started today," said Henry Ramos, the longest-serving representative and a staunch opposition leader from Acción Democrática told Fox News Latino.

Teachers Union Threatens Strike after 2 St. Paul Central Staffers Hurt Breaking Up Fight
[KSTP] Two students have now been charged after two employees were hurt breaking up a cafeteria fight at St. Paul's Central High School.

Investigators say the fight, which happened Friday, Dec. 4, started between two students and was about who had better football statistics.

The fight involved a 15-year-old student. During the fight, his 16-year-old brother jumped in to help, and a science teacher intervened to stop the older brother from getting involved.

Police say the 16-year-old then shoved the teacher's face into a wall, breaking his glasses.

An assistant principal also said he saw the 16-year-old pick up the teacher in a strangulation hold, lift him in the air and forcefully slam him on his back onto a cafeteria chair and table. The student then got on top of the teacher and started choking him, and he then hit him in the face and neck repeatedly, according to the complaint.

The assistant principal intervened, and police say the 16-year-old also slammed him into a wall. Witnesses say the younger brother then punched the assistant principal repeatedly in the upper chest.

Both students were placed in durance vile
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
The 15-year-old was charged Monday with fourth-degree assault and obstructing legal process. Prosecutors Tuesday charged the 16-year-old with felony third-degree assault.

Police say the teacher who was assaulted has bruises on his neck and face, scratches on his face, and was having trouble making sense and comprehending what was taking place. Officers say he fell unconscious for about 10-20 seconds during the fight.

The teacher was taken to the hospital, and police say his condition continued to deteriorate. He was nauseous, had tingling in his hands and had back and neck pain. Emergency doctors say he had a traumatic brain injury, a concussion and neck trauma.

The assistant principal also had a grapefruit-sized bruise on his neck, according to police.

A St. Paul teachers union has suggested its teachers will strike if changes are not made.

Saint Paul Federation of Teachers President Denise Rodriguez released a statement Tuesday night, requesting additional staff and resources be allocated to "adopt a restorative approach to school climate." Rodriguez also suggested the addition of social workers, counselors, nurses and school psychologists as well as district support--in the form of time and funds--so that teachers can work with parents and "build collaborative relationships."

Four Israelis wounded in two West Bank attacks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Four Israelis were maimed in attacks Wednesday in the occupied West Bank, including a soldier and a civilian stabbed by a Paleostinian who was later rubbed out, the army said.

The first attack took place in the center of the flashpoint city of Hebron, where one victim was maimed and another slightly hurt, police front man Micky Rosenfeld said.

The army said one of the victims was a soldier who was stabbed by a Paleostinian he had stopped for an identity check.

The stabbed civilian is the son of former Israeli politician Orit Struck of the religious and nationalist Jewish Home party, the politician told Israeli radio.

She said her son was lightly maimed when he lunged at the assailant after the soldier was stabbed.

Paleostinian security sources identified the attacker as Abed al-Rahman Maswada, 21.

He was said to be the cousin of another Paleostinian attacker rubbed out in Hebron on Monday after stabbing an Israeli.

Hebron, in the southern West Bank, has been a flashpoint in more than two months of Paleostinian knife, gun and car-ramming attacks.

Tensions between Israeli settlers living under heavy military guard in the heart of the city and Paleostinian residents have been high.

Later in the evening, assailants shot at a car near the West Bank town of Tulkarem, wounding two Israelis, the army said.

The pair, a man who suffered serious wounds and a woman with lighter injuries, were taken to hospital, Israel's Magen David Adom emergency medical service said. The man was in stable, pH balanced condition.
