Defense Ministry unveils first Namer APC with Trophy anti-missile system
The Defense Ministry unveiled on Thursday the first Namer armored personnel carrier (APC) that has the Trophy HV active protection system installed on board.

Made by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Trophy has already been installed on Merkava MK 4 tanks that protected it against Palestinian anti-tank and RPG attacks during the Gaza conflict of 2014.

Now the system will be installed on every new Namer made in factories, the Defense Ministry's Merkava Tank Administration announced, following the completion of the first operational drill involving IDF personnel at the Armored Corps School in southern Israel.

The trial was held by Defense Ministry engineers and the Ground Forces, and came following a series of live-fire tests in which missiles were fired at the Namer and destroyed by Trophy.

The Trophy-equipped Namers will be able to enter battlegrounds rife with anti-tank and RPG threats and safely transport infantry, even if multiple threats are fired at it simultaneously. It use radar panels to detect and follow threats, before destroying them in mid-air with interceptors.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Former Islamic extremist says the Far Left are helping Islamic State spread ideas in West
Maajid Nawaz,
absolute hero, for those who do not know he used to be full Islamist, locked up in Egypt for it. He started the Quilliam Foundation and spends his life stamping out Islamist theocratic fascism. Islamists regularly threaten to get rid of him.
who was formally a member of radical Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir, is now seeking to challenge the narrative of Islamic extremists and form a more moderate Islam.

"We need a rational conversation about reforming Islam," Nawaz told Yahoo7.

Nawaz said even non-Muslims have a role to play in this reform.

"You don't need to be black to challenge racism, you don't need to be gay to challenge homophobia, and you don't need to be a Muslim to challenge Islam.

"You don't even need to know anything about Islam to know that it is wrong to enslave and rape women like ISIS are doing with the Yazidi women.

Nawaz has coined the phrase the 'Regressive Left', which he describes as a section of the Left wing of politics who "are abusing terms such as racism, bigotry and Islamophobia to shutdown debate".

"Islam is not a race and it is certainly not racist to scrutinise Islam just as it is not anti-Christian to scrutinise, critique and satirise Christianity.

"No idea should be above scrutiny, just as no people should be below dignity."

Nawaz said it is "absurd" to state that the likes of ISIS are not inspired by Islam, as some liberal thinkers on the Left attempt to claim.

#1  liberal thinkers on the Left attempt to claim

A contradiction and a tautology in one sentence.

#2  Maajid Nawaz may be a heroic guy but I think he underestimates (actually he sort of denies) the problem that Islamic terrorism is a logical outcome of the Koran, Hadith and Sunna.

#3  It's nice that the Left has found a bunch of gun-toting religious fanatics with whom it can relate.

#4  Lord Garth - read the whole thing at the link, you will see maajid specifically says that terrorism is to do with Islam and that terrorists are quoting scripture when they throw gays from rooves etc.

he does not deny it at all
Posted by: anon1 || 01/28/2016 10:47 Comments || Top||

#5  that's why I said, "...sort of denies..." because he wants to retain Islam but lose the terrorism, intimidation and so on

yes, this can be done by various theological means and several sects of Islam - alevi, ismaeli, amahdi have done this to some degree -- but that doesn't really solve the problem because as long as the Koran (and haditha and sunna) are out there and considered divine, they are a source for terrorism --

#6  Yes, what is being sold is "math class" - without the math. Not believable...

#7  His claim as highlighted in the article's title is essentially correct. The loss of the USSR was a severe blow to the homegrown leftist, which was their main bulwark against the West. 9/11 provided them with a suitable replacement and they immediately set about appropriating Islam for their own goals, which has always been to destroy the notion of Western Culture. And, they do this without any instruction. It's ingrained in their indoctrination and they seek to spread it. That's why see in US, Canada, and now Austria, school children singing songs in praise of Allah. Allah's lieb ist so wunderbar!

"Lord of the Jung" a hit in Pakistan, new movie where Pakistan refights the Indo-Pak war
[Liveleak]

Pollywood fantasy movie Lord of the Jung directed by notable Pakistani film director Abdul Aziz is doing roaring business in Pakistan and has shattered all the previous box office records.

Lord of the Jung, which stars Pakistan's own Sunny Deol, "Shaan Balwaan", is a fantasy drama which revolves around cricket world cup and Indo-Pak war.

Shaan Balwaan plays the character of a Pakistani Army officer Major Bilawal Toofani (known among his colleagues as 'Punjabi Thunder') , who besides serving army also plays for Pakistan national cricket team. He has been portrayed as a man who is at least 10 times more talented than Rajinikant and Sir Jadeja combined.

In the first half of the movie, Major Bilawal helps Pak cricket team defeat India in the final match of cricket world cup at famous Lord's cricket ground. The movie shows Pakistan defeating India in the semi-final match too (to elongate that feeling just that much more for the Pakistani viewers), but fails to explain how India moved on to the finals.

"As if your Bollywood movies have any logic! Get lost you loser," reacted one Pakistani citizen when an Indian 'hyper' journalist asked about the loopholes in the movie's plot.

After beating India several times in the world cup matches, the hero then helps Pakistan defeat India in Kashmir in the second half.

The film has been received well by Pakistani film critics, with most of them giving it 5 out of 5 star ratings.

"This movie has finally given Pakistanis a reason to cheer about. What our cricket team and army failed to achieve in reality, has been done by Shaan Balwaan. He fulfilled our dreams," said an emotional Ajmal, who is a film critic at Geo-graphical News.

"If it was possible, I would have given it 10 out of 5 stars," he added.

Independent reviewers have declared Lord of the Jung as a level-5 fantasy movie and have placed it even ahead of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Such is the demand for the movie that theater owners had to ask for the help of Pakistani Army being deployed in counter crowd operations, to remove people forcibly after movie gets over as people begin asking for "once more, once more". "It's like they don't want the dream movie to end," said Mohammad Parvez, owner of a film theater in Peshawar.

Delighted with story of the movie, Pak government has decided to award the movie director, Abdul Aziz, with country's highest civilian award –Nishan-e-Pak istan.

Pakistan Film Association has further recommended ‘Lord of the Jung‘s name as Pakistan's official Oscar entry in Foreign Language Film Award category. But highly placed sources in Pollywood confirm that its name may be rejected because of violating the ethics of a fantasy movie.

Melbourne teen accused of plotting to pack kangaroo with bomb
[Herald Sun] A teenager from Melbourne accused of planning a foiled Anzac Day terrorist attack allegedly discussed packing a kangaroo with explosives, painting it with an Daesh symbol and turning it loose on police officers. Sevdet Besim laughed about beheading Australian police and intelligence agents, suggested attacking a police station like his friend Numan Haider, and tried to assault police the morning he was arrested, court documents claim.

Besim was today ordered to stand trial in the Supreme Court after pleading not guilty to four charges relating to planning the April 25 ambush. He has been accused of planning to run down a police officer, behead him or her and shoot bystanders using the officer's gun.

He allegedly said he was "ready to fight these dogs on there (sic) doorstep" in online communications with an overseas contact. He said, "I'd love to take out some cops."

U.S. presses Syrian opposition to attend talks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian opposition groups should seize the historic opportunity to attend peace talks in Geneva planned for Friday and go without preconditions, the U.S. State Department said on Wednesday.

"Factions of the opposition have an historic opportunity to go to Geneva and propose serious, practical ways to implement a ceasefire, humanitarian access and other confidence-building measures, and they should do so without preconditions," State Department front man Mark Toner said.

"We believe it should seize this opportunity to test the regime's willingness and intentions, and expose before the entire world which parties are serious about a potential peaceful political transfer in Syria, and which are not," he told a briefing.

Iran training volunteer 'advisers' to serve in Syria
[Ynet] A senior commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guard said Wednesday that it is training volunteer "advisers" to serve alongside President Bashar Assad's forces in Syria.

General Mohsen Kazemeini said Iran feels an "obligation" to send "military advisers" to Syria to protect Shiite shrines at the request of the Assad government. His comments were posted Wednesday on a website for the Basij, a paramilitary division of the Guard.

"The Basij division of Tehran carries out registration of volunteers for advisory activities in Syria," Kazemeini said. "Only a few of those trained are dispatched to Syria."

Heavy fighting between Shaboobs and KDF erupts in Gedo
Heavy fighting between Al shabaab and KDF erupted in Gedo region, south west of Somalia as Kenyan troops withdrew from El Adde town on Tuesday.

Militants ambushed KDF convoy near Likoley village as they were withdrawing from El Adde after Al shabaab killed one hundred of Kenyan soldiers at El Addo base on January 15. Two KDF vehicles were destroyed in the attack which began with IED blast.

Residents in the area reported deadly aerial bombardment by KDF jets on near El Adde, targeting Al shabaab bases in Gedo region. At least three people were wounded in the airstrike.

Since El Adde attack, KDF jets carried out several deadly airstrikes in Gedo, in revenge for the soldiers killed in the attack by Somalia-based Al shabaab, a group linked with Al Qaeda.

Iraq
Video: Peshmerga teams dig out ISIS bombs long after the group withdraws
[Rudaw] The Kurdish Peshmerga have defused 7,000 bombs in Kirkuk and other frontlines. Most of the bombs are defused in areas the Peshmerga reclaimed from ISIS. These bombs and IEDs are a major problem for the Peshmerga.

The ISIS Death Eaters plant them inside homes, public places and roads.

Bomb disposal teams are sent to each area after liberation. Families not allowed to return until all explosives are removed first. Jalawla in northern Diyala is one example. It was reclaimed in November 2014, but only recently families were able to go home. The Yezidi town of Shingal was taken back in November 2015, but it still has many explosives. Bomb disposal teams have cleared much of it. Still doing more.

The Peshmerga say the bombs are advanced and laid everywhere. It takes time.

Germany Toughens Expulsion Rules for Foreigners who Commit Crimes
[AnNahar] German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
's cabinet Wednesday agreed to make it easier to expel foreigners who have committed crimes, in the wake of a spate of sex assaults on New Year's Eve blamed on migrants.

Police investigating the crime spree in the western city of Cologne
...a lovely city in Germany. They invented perfume there...
have said the suspects were mostly asylum seekers and illegal migrants from North Africa.

The rampage shocked Germany and jolted Merkel into backing changes to the law, which are expected to be passed by parliament given her coalition government's strong majority.

On Wednesday, her cabinet backed changing the law to expel asylum seekers who have been sentenced to one year's jail or more, including suspended sentences.

Previously, refugee status could only be withdrawn in cases where applicants had ben sentenced to at least three-year terms.

The Cologne assaults ignited a heated debate in Germany over the country's ability to socially integrate the 1.1 million asylum seekers it took in last year.

Two other murderous Moslems were captured while several others bravely ran away with gunshot wounds in the fierce shootout between the troops and the holy warriors.

Going Dutch in anti-ISIS air operations
Sorry about that.
THE HAGUE –The Dutch cabinet will discuss a U.S. request to join coalition air strikes against jihadists in Syria within “the coming days”, Foreign Minister Bert Koenders said, amid speculation a decision may come as early as Friday.

“The cabinet will now decide. We’ll discuss it in the coming days,” Koenders told Dutch news programme Nieuwsuur.

Late last year the Dutch government received a request from its allies the United States and France to broaden its campaign of air support against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group from Iraq into Syria.

After weeks of dallying, the junior partner in the ruling coalition, the Labour Party (PvdA), Tuesday finally agreed to back an extension of air strikes into Syria, apparently ensuring there is now a parliamentary majority in favor of such a move.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan Ranked 2nd Most Corrupt Country In The world
[Tolo News] A new annual study of Transparency International illustrates Afghanistan, Somalia and North Korea as the most corrupt countries among 176 in the world.

Afghanistan is the second most corrupt country in the list of 176 countries ranked in the report.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella grabbed the cocoanut cream...
Executive Director for Integrity Watch Afghanistan (IWA) Mohammad Ikram Afzali is concerned over the Afghan government's anti-corruption campaign and recommended a number of changes to this drive.

"The fight against corruption should be the top priority of the National Unity Government [NUG]. There should be a political will for this purpose," he said.

"The NUG has not implemented its promises it has made for overcoming the endemic corruption in the country," said Nasir Temori, a researcher at the IWA.

The Chief Executive of the NUG, Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
, in a session with UN and other humanitarian organizations said they are committed to fighting endemic corruption.

"There is no doubt in the NUG's mind it is serious about the fight against corruption in public offices," he said.

The NUG leaders in the first day in their office vowed to overcome corruption in government offices and bring transparency in government contracts and other processes that pave the way for this problem.

"Not only government but the people, the civil society and the private sector are responsible to join hands and fight corruption in the country," said the president's deputy front man Sayed Zafar Hashemi.

According to the annual report of Transparency International, Denmark, Finland and Sweden are the top three countries with no corruption.

Security forces recover huge cache of weapons in Peshawar raids
PESHAWAR: A joint team comprising police and intelligence officials on Wednesday recovered a huge cache of weapons and ammunition from different areas of Peshawar.

An official part of the joint team told DawnNews that raids were conducted at warehouses on GT road and Kohat road on prior intelligence.

Officials claim militants wanted to carry out a major act of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's capital city, for which they were dumping dangerous weapons at the locations raided.

Recovered arms were presented in front of media in Peshawar and include over a thousand M4 and M6 rifles, telescopes and a large numbers of bullets, officials said.

The official, on condition of anonymity, said the arms were 'foreign made.'

Security in Peshawar and adjoining areas has been on high alert since the Bacha Khan University attack last week, when Taliban militants breached the varsity and shot dead at least 21 people including students and professors.

This was the second major attack by the Pakistani Taliban on a school in the country, the first being the brutal massacre of 144 people, including teachers and children, at the Peshawar Army Public School.

ISIS arrests wimmin for sharia dress code violations
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) launched an arrest campaign in Syria’s northern city of Jarablus on Wednesday, targeting women accused of violating the dress code imposed by the radical group.

Local activists and eyewitnesses confirmed that ISIS militants have detained more than 30 women in Jarablus on charges of violating the Sharia dress.

Most of the arrestees were targeted in the central market of Jarablus on Wednesday evening.

“They were brutally beaten by ISIS jihadis in front of hundreds of people in the marketplace, before being arrested and transferred to the women’s detention center in Jarablus,” a media activist who witnessed the campaign told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity for security concerns.

“The arrested women are expected to be whipped in public tomorrow afternoon,” the source reported, quoting sources in the ISIS-led Sharia Court in Jarablus.

In areas under ISIS control, every woman accused of violating the Islamic dress code imposed by the radical group is being flogged 50 times in public as a punishment, based on extremist regulations of the Sharia Court.

"Therefore we draw the attention of all independent tourists departing for Turkey to the necessity of taking all possible measures to ensure personal security."

Turkey had been Russia's number one foreign tourism destination for years but this came to an abrupt end following the shooting down of a Russian military plane by Turkish jets on the Syria-Turkey border in November.

Palestinian teen pulls knife on soldiers, is arrested
[IsraelTimes] Security forces apprehend 17-year-old on suspicion he tried to stab soldiers at Qalandiya checkpoint in the West Bank

A Paleostinian teen was jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Wednesday on suspicion that he had attempted to stab a soldier at the Qalandiya checkpoint near Jerusalem in the West Bank. There were no injuries in the incident.

During a routine army search on a bus at the checkpoint, the teenager was asked to show his identity card, and when he failed to do so, was requested to step out of the vehicle. At that point the 17-year-old pulled out a knife and tried to assault an IDF soldier, but the weapon fell from his hand, police said.

Soldiers subsequently apprehended the teenager, a resident of the West Bank city of Nablus, and transferred him to a nearby security facility for interrogation.

The IDF on Tuesday encouraged civilian security personnel in the West Bank to carry their weapons at all times, following a stabbing attack Monday in a Jewish settlement, when two turbans climbed over the fence into Beit Horon, located on a major highway just outside Jerusalem. The pair stabbed two women, 23-year-old Shlomit Krigman, who died of her wounds on Tuesday, and a 58-year-old woman.

Following the attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the army Monday evening to prepare a wide-ranging plan to increase settlement security.

Tensions were already high in the West Bank following the fatal stabbing of Dafna Meir, a mother of six, in the Otniel settlement outside of Hebron on July 17, and the attack on Michal Froman, who was five months pregnant, in the Tekoa settlement the next day.

Following those attacks, the IDF limited the entrance of Paleostinian workers into some Jewish communities in the West Bank. Paleostinians were first barred from entering most Jewish settlements, but that restriction was eased on Sunday to allow workers to enter all settlements except for Otniel -- and now Beit Horon, as well.

Private security personnel and civilian first response teams, who have ties to the IDF and receive rifles from the army, have also been put on high alert due to the string of attacks, the army said.
As Heinlein wrote, "An armed society is a polite society."

Rowhani: Iran didn't ask for nude statue cover-up
So Rome pre-emptively surrendered? How thoughtful of them.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iranian President Hassan Rowhani says Iran didn't make any specific requests for Rome museum officials to cover up naked statues but says he nevertheless appreciated the welcome he received.

Rowhani laughed Wednesday when asked at the end of a three-day visit to Italia about the statue cover-up, which made headlines in Italia and around the world. Some Italian politicians decried the "cultural submission" implied in Italia's gesture.

The Iranian president said Iran made no specific request for the cover-up, saying there were "no contacts about this" from his side.

But he added: "I know that Italians are a very hospitable people, a people who try to do the most to put their guests at ease and I thank you for this."

Ahead of a joint news conference Monday with Premier Matteo Renzi, wooden panels were erected around some Roman-era statues in Rome's Capitoline Museums.

The Iranian president also told news hounds on Wednesday that freedom of expression doesn't extend to insulting other people's faith.

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Libya and Syria, authorities said on Wednesday.

Tunisia declared a state of emergency after a suicide kaboom killed 12 presidential guards on a bus in the capital Tunis in November.

That followed major gun attacks targeting foreign tourists at a Tunis museum and a beach hotel, both of which were claimed by ISIS.

"Our special forces counter-terrorism unit dismantled a cell which included nine holy warriors in Bizerte who were actively recruiting young people to send them into areas of trouble," the interior ministry said.

It said those tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
had admitted recruiting for ISIS in Libya and Syria.

Tunisia, mostly a haven of stability since its 2011 revolt against autocrat Zine Abidine Ben Ali, is increasingly being challenged by Islamist krazed killers, who have hit army patrols and checkpoints as well as carrying out major attacks.

Terrorism controlled to great extent, says Qaim. Honest.
[DAWN] DADU: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that his government has succeeded in controlling terrorism to a great extent. Referring to a remarkable improvement in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...

Speaking at a public meeting in Khanpur Junejo town of Dadu district on Wednesday, the chief minister termed terrorism the biggest challenge being faced by the country. "Right from Karachi to Jacobabad, the menace had spread across Sindh but the provincial government took effective measures and succeeded in controlling it to a great extent," he said, and held out the assurance that it [terrorism] would be eliminated very soon.

Mr Shah criticised the Pakistain Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for registering fresh cases against Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and recalled that similar false cases had been registered against him by it (PML-N) in the past as well.

"We support the PML-N in pursuance of the PPP chief's policy and in the greater interest of democracy and the country," Mr Shah said.

Speaking about various other issues, the chief minister said that murders, kidnapping for ransom and other crimes in Sindh had registered a decline due to effective police operations against dacoits. Most of the criminals had either been killed or tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!

that could be used in such attacks.

The panel of experts documented 119 coalition sorties "relating to violations of international humanitarian law" and said that "many attacks involved multiple air strikes on multiple civilian objects."

The U.N. experts said all parties to the conflict in Yemen were violating international humanitarian law. They said that in certain cases the violations by the coalition were conducted in a "widespread and systemic manner" and therefore could qualify as crimes against humanity.

The U.N. experts recommended the 15-member Security Council consider establishing a Commission of Inquiry to investigate violations of international law.

The Saudi U.N. mission was not immediately available for comment.

Jabhat al-Nusra greater threat than ISIS, warns report
[Rudaw] A new policy report by Fred and Kim Kagan (developers of the so-called "surge" strategy in Iraq around a decade ago) charges that the al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria, Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
, poses a greater threat to the United States in the long-term than the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS) does.

"Any strategy that leaves Jabhat al-Nusra in place will fail to secure the American homeland," the report warns.

Published by American Enterprise Institute and the Institute for the Study of War the report posits that Nusra is "much more dangerous to the U.S. than the ISIS model in the long run."

"While ISIS is flashier ... both represent an existential threat, both wish to attack the homeland, both seek the mobilization of Muslim communities against the West," Kim Kagan told CNN.

However Nusra is more dangerous in their view since, unlike ISIS, it "is quietly intertwining itself with the Syrian population and Syrian opposition ... they are waiting in the wings to pick up the mantle of global jihad once ISIS falls."

"Right now," she continued, "al-Nusra has decided not to overtly host attack cells because the al-Qaeda leadership's priority is preserving success in Syria and avoiding being targeted by the U.S."

"We define a threat as having the capability and the intent. ... The capability is already there, and in time the intent will be as well," they warned.

#4  Christopher Hitchens demonstrated that Saddam Hussein was not secular

Saddam enjoyed a long relationship with Islam's holy men, inscribed the worlds "Allahu Akhbar" on the Iraqi flag, and sponsored holy jihadis, built mosques, and murdered thousands of people in his "Operation Anfal" borrowing a term from the Koran.

the Baath party modelled itself on European fascism, which was not modelled on secularism and proposes the worship of the state, the party and the leader. In Iraq in the last 15 years under Saddam morphed completely into an Islamist regime and changed all its rhetoric to Jihadism, complete with a koran written entirely in Saddams blood.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft2YEQK8oWc

Saddam pretended to be secular as he was a minority sect (Sunni) in control of a majority Shia country.

Similarly Bashar al Assad ran a completely religious regime - a minority Alawite religious clan. A variant of shia. It sponsors clerical terrorism around the world and its main ally is Iran, a shia theocracy, and co-sponsors hezbollah.

That is NOT secular.

Finally, you can be a bad leader and secular or a good leader and secular. It is not enough on its own.

but it is an absolutely necessary precurser to any ally being long-term safe for the West.

That means we should have long ago dumped the Saudis and have kicked Turkey out of Nato when Erdogan began sponsoring IS and supporting Islamism

The Danish People's Party (DF) has already reached agreement with Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen's minority government to retroactively lower social benefits for those granted asylum under the previous centre-left coalition, DF's spokesman on immigration issues Martin Henriksen told AFP. He also expected legislation to be passed making it easier to deport refugees who have committed crimes.

"We have influenced them in several different areas and we see that as our job," Henriksen said of the government.

"It wouldn't be the first time that the Danish People's Party has to work to get curbs [on immigration] through parliament," he added.

On Tuesday, when Denmark's parliament adopted the reforms aimed at dissuading migrants from seeking asylum by delaying family reunifications and allowing authorities to confiscate migrants' valuables, Rasmussen's right-wing Venstre government said it had no immediate plans to tighten asylum rules further.

"At the moment, no, we do not. We've introduced several pieces of legislation to keep the amount of asylum at a manageable level," Marcus Knuth, Venstre's spokesman on immigration issues, told AFP.

In order to pass legislation the right-wing minority government needs parliamentary backing from DF, which became Denmark's biggest right-wing party in last year's general election.

"A lot of the curbs that were adopted yesterday have only been introduced because the Danish People's Party has pushed for them," Henriksen said.

"The government initially proposed a package of migration laws that was much smaller than what was passed yesterday," he added, noting that DF was the first party in parliament to raise the issue of whether migrants' valuables could be used to pay for their stay in asylum centres.

DF is also behind a resolution, passed by lawmakers last week, pushing the government to look into the construction of temporary housing complexes outside cities for refugees, like the country did during the Balkans war in the 1990s.

DF sees it as a first step towards building state-run camps where refugees would stay without integrating into Danish society. The government has opposed the idea.

Civilians apprehend stabber in Givat Ze'ev
[Ynet] Terrorist attacks a man about 50 years old outside a gas station restaurant, seriously wounding him; civilians tackle attacker to the ground, lightly wounding him.

Civilians apprehended a terrorist on Wednesday night after he seriously maimed a man about 50 years old in the settlement of Givat Ze'ev near Jerusalem.

The victim was taken to the trauma center at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem in serious and unstable condition. He was taken into the operation room.

The attacker, around 18 years old, opened the door to one of the restaurants at a gas station near the Giv'onim Junction on Route 436 and stabbed a man that was standing there in his upper body.

He expeditiously departed at a goodly pace, dropping his knife, and was caught some 200 meters south of the gas stop by civilians who pursued him. Another knife was found on his person.

When the terrorist threw his knife during his escape, it hit and injured Hillel Hagar, who was chasing after him.

The terrorist was lightly maimed when he was caught, but civilians at the scene blocked the path of an ambulance trying to take him to the hospital. He was eventually taken to the Hadassah Medical Center on Jerusalem's Mount Scopus, suffering from minor bruising.

Moshe, who works at a nearby bakery, described the attack: "I was at the bakery and we heard screams. We saw the terrorist running away. He threw the knife and hit one of the guys. Two people tackled him to the ground and then we jumped him - five or six of us - and beat him with stones to the head. Then the police came and took him, and an ambulance evacuated him."

Civilians gathered at the scene of the attack called out "Death to Arabs." One of them said, "Look what's happening here - and what the government cares about is demolishing a synagogue."

Hundreds show up to support convicted Indonesian terrorist
[AFP] Hundreds of supporters of a jailed Indonesian extremist chanted "Allahu akbar!" outside court Tuesday, as the radical cleric tried to overturn his conviction for funding a terrorist group.

Just 12 days after a deadly gun and suicide bomb attack in Jakarta, security was tight as Abu Bakar Bashir returned to the Central Java court to challenge his 15-year sentence for helping fund a militant group in western Indonesia. Around 1,500 security personnel were deployed to secure the streets around the courthouse, far more than at Bashir's last hearing which took place just two days before the terrorist attack.

Wearing a flowing white robe and a turban, Bashir spoke little during the hearing but his supporters were vocal, shouting at the judge and prosecutors. One of them cried, "Free Bashir, he is not a terrorist!"

Bashir's lawyers argue that money he collected was intended to help people in Palestine, but was sent to a militant group in Aceh without his knowledge.

Though Bashir's influence has waned, hundreds of his followers – along with supporters of the hardline Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) – packed the court and spilled out onto the forecourt, where police kept watch with a mobile water cannon.

"I have been here since yesterday to support Bashir and Habib Rizieq," said one outside the courtroom, the latter a reference to the FPI founder who gave evidence Tuesday.

Danish teen fought off rapist - now she'll face fine
Hat tip Instapundit, with > 100 comments there.
A 17-year-old girl who was physically and sexually attacked in Sønderborg will herself face charges for using pepper spray to fend off her assailant.

The teenager told police that she was attacked in central Sønderborg on Wednesday at around 10pm by a dark-skinned English-speaking man. She said the man knocked her to the ground and then unbuttoned her pants and attempted to undress her. The girl was able to save herself from further assault by using pepper spray on the attacker, but now she may be the one who ends up in legal trouble.

“It is illegal to possess and use pepper spray, so she will likely be charged for that,” local police spokesman Knud Kirsten told TV Syd.

The case has sparked a backlash among some Danes who point to increasing reports of sexual harassment in Sønderborg and other Danish cities at the same time that police say they are stretched too thin to properly carry out their duties. Numerous readers wrote in the comments section on TV Syd’s story about the incident that they would be willing to pay the girl’s fine, which will most likely be 500 kroner.

The man who attacked the 17-year-old fled from the scene and has not been charged.

Three Soldiers Killed in Turkish City as Curfew Expanded
Destroying the cities in order to save them.
[AnNahar] Three Turkish soldiers were killed Wednesday in festivities with Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) gunnies in Diyarbakir in southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, the military said, as a controversial curfew order was expanded to new areas in the Kurdish-dominated city.

Kurdish gunnies on Wednesday attacked the security forces with rifles and rocket launchers in the central Sur district of Diyarbakir, prompting intense festivities that killed three soldiers and maimed six others, the army said in a statement.

Vowing to flush out the PKK from Turkey's urban centers, the authorities have in recent weeks enforced curfews in three locations in the southeast to back up military operations that activists say have killed dozens of civilians.

A curfew measure in Sur, which has been in place since December 2, has been widened to cover five more neighborhoods and a main road on Wednesday to help the security forces remove the bombs and barricades set up by the Death Eaters, local authorities said.

Clutching bags of possessions and mattresses, residents of the affected areas rapidly moved to different neighborhoods to take shelter, an AFP photographer said.

Curfews remain in place in the town of Cizre in Sirnak province near the Iraqi border, which was imposed on December 14. A curfew in nearby Silopi was partially lifted last week.

The army also said a total of 20 Kurdish rebels were killed in Cizre and Sur on Tuesday, bringing the total number of gunnies killed in the two towns to some 600 since the "anti-terror" operation started in December.

It was not immediately possible to independently verify the figures.

The operations mark a new escalation in six months of fighting with the PKK since a two-and-a-half year truce collapsed.

Hundreds of Groups Run Statelets with Cross-Border Targets
Tripoli- In a series of episodes, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper observes the complications of Libyan civil war and the chaos, which resulted in the emergence of hundreds of groups that lead “statelets” with cross-border targets.

Despite attempts by International Community and various Libyan parties to put an end to the security chaos the country is enduring, challenges seem to be more than just meetings, dialogues and political solutions. There are forces led by groups that could drag the country into civil war.

The danger lies in about five paramilitary groups that are spread in specific geographic areas and that enjoy good funding and armament as they have intelligence and security devices similar to those known in the countries. Nevertheless, what stirred this problem and resulted in its persistence were the warlords, thieves, militias, and battalions that emerged after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.

In contrast, the national army, led by Gen. Khalifa Haftar suffers from a lack of back up for equipment and soldiers, especially when facing extremists who are holed up in the capital and several other cities.

The first episode tackles the areas close to the oil fields, especially Ajdabiya and Ras Lanuf that include warlords, ISIS militants and federalists. Some of the Libyans call these areas “Ajdabiyan Ghosts” after they caused panic in oil fields and oil export ports.

Refugees Critical Of Tough New Danish Immigration Laws
[Tolo News] Denmark's parliament passed measures on Tuesday aimed at deterring refugees from seeking asylum, including confiscating valuables to pay for their stay, despite protests from international human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
organizations.

The measures, which also include extending family reunification among refugees from one year to three years, are the latest sign that the Nordic welcome for refugees is waning as large numbers flee war in Africa and Middle East for a better life in Europe.

The "jewellery bill" is the latest attempt by Denmark's minority center-right government to curb immigration to a country that took in a record 20,000 refugees last year.

Under the bill, refugees could keep possessions amounting to 10,000 Danish crowns ($1,450 USD), raised from 3,000 crowns after criticism from human rights organizations. Valuables of special emotional value such as wedding rings will be exempt.

At the Trampoline House in central Copenhagen, which offers support to asylum seekers and refugees, people were critical of the new laws.

"I think it's a wrong law and we don't accept this. We condemn it and we protested today and we are going to keep going to protest against this new law because this doesn't work. We want the Danish parliament to think again about this new law because this is dehumanizing us," said 27-year-old Hiwa from Iraq.

"I'm so sorry about these new rules and it's really bad that the Danish parliament they come out with difficult and harder and harder rules. That's not a good decision," added Shagira, 29, from Afghanistan.

Trampoline House's manager Marten Goll, said there was a sense of "hopelessness" among the refugees.

"Many refugees they flee to Denmark and the West because they believe in human rights and democracy and they believe that they will find it here. It's kind of what the West is always telling, that the West is a beacon of democracy and human rights and respect for the singular individual and now with these laws it's obvious that our politicians do not respect this for people who do not have Danish passports," he said.

The Liberals Party government has just 34 out of 179 seats in parliament and depends on support of rightist parties, including the anti-immigration Danish People's Party (DF), to pass laws.

The dissenting voices came from small left-wing parties, including from Red Green Alliance.

But the bill passed with an overwhelming majority, backed by the main center-left opposition party Social Democrats, highlighting a shift to the right in Denmark's political landscape thanks to DF's popularity and rising concern over refugee numbers.

Iraq
ISIS counterattacks slow Iraqi army operations in Anbar
[ARA News] ERBIL – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) renewed their attacks against Iraqi army positions in Anbar province, impeding the latter’s progress, officials and media sources reported on Wednesday.

Although the Iraqi army units in Anbar received military reinforcements earlier this week, ISIS was able to force the army to retreat from main headquarters in the suburb of Ramadi, capital of Anbar province.

“Daesh (ISIS) launched four suicide attacks on the army positions in Zankur district west of Anbar, causing dozens of casualties among the Iraqi troops,” official spokesman of the Anbar media office, Khalid al-Anbari, told ARA News on Wednesday.

“At least 20 Iraqi soldiers were killed and 25 more were wounded in a series of suicide attacks and explosion of car bombs in the western suburb of Ramadi,” the source said.

Al-Anbari added that the army units were forced to evacuate their headquarters in Zankur and Sufiyah in Ramadi to avoid further losses.

This comes just a mont after the Iraqi central government announced the liberation of Ramadi from ISIS militants. However, the group still holds several areas in the province, and has recently intensified its attacks on the positions of the Iraqi army.

Sweden to expel 80,000 asylum-seekers, minister says
[IsraelTimes] After taking in over 160,000, Stockhold to deport tens of thousands of migrants whose applications were rejected

intends to expel up to 80,000 migrants who arrived in 2015 and whose application for asylum has been rejected, Interior Minister Anders Ygeman said Wednesday.

"We are talking about 60,000 people but the number could climb to 80,000," the minister was quoted as saying by Swedish media, adding that the government had asked the police and authorities in charge of migrants to organize their expulsion.
Organize carefully guys. Some of these people will be desperate, and some are evil. Such people do not accept passively the removal of their dream.
The proposed measure was announced as Europe struggles to deal with a crisis that has seen tens of thousands of migrants arrive on Greek beaches, with the passengers -- mostly fleeing conflict in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan -- undeterred by cold wintry conditions.

The UN says more than 46,000 people have arrived in Greece so far this year, with more than 170 people killed making the dangerous crossing.

Ygeman said the expulsions, normally carried out using commercial flights, would have to be done using specially chartered aircraft, given the large numbers, staggered over several years.
How long until the first hijacking d'you suppose, dear Reader? And how many will wander off rather than wait for their flight?
Sweden, which is home to 9.8 million people, is one of the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
countries that has taken in the largest number of refugees in relation to its population. Sweden accepted more than 160,000 asylum seekers last year.

But the number of migrant arrivals has dropped dramatically since Sweden enacted systematic photo ID checks on travelers on January 4.

Swedish officials on Tuesday called for greater security at overcrowded asylum centers a day after the fatal stabbing of an employee at a refugee center for unaccompanied youths.

The alleged attacker was a young male residing at a center for youngsters aged 14 to 17 in Molndal near Gothenburg on Sweden's west coast.

The employee was 22-year-old Alexandra Mezher, according to Swedish media reports, whose family was originally from Leb. A motive for the attack was not immediately clear.

Her death has led to questions about overcrowded conditions inside some centers, with too few adults and employees to take care of children, many traumatized by war.

Africa North
Third Time: Al-Qaida Affiliate Claims Swiss Woman's Kidnap in New Video
This is a sheep that can be sheared at regular intervals. Her order needs to send her home.
[AnNahar] Al-Qaeda's north Africa affiliate has claimed the kidnapping of a Swiss woman in Mali's Timbuktu in a video seen by AFP on Wednesday, as Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
demanded her unconditional release.

Beatrice Stockly, who was previously kidnapped by Islamists in northern Mali in 2012, was taken for the second time on January 7 by gunnies who stormed her home in the country's fabled city.

The eight-minute video includes triumphant montages of jihadists brandishing weapons and a masked English-speaker who claims responsibility for the abduction on behalf of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

"Beatrice Stockly is a Swiss nun who declared war against Islam in her attempt to Christianise Muslims," the speaker said.

Stockly has previously been identified as a missionary and social worker in her 40s who had lived in Timbuktu for years.

With at least three other fighters dimly lit in the background, the speaker said AQIM carried out the abduction and listed conditions for Stockly's release.

They include the release of a number of AQIM fighters nabbed
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
in Mali and one of their leaders, Abu Tourab, detained at the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
at The Hague.

Abu Ahmad Tourab is the nom de guerre of Ahmad al-Faki al-Mahdi, who is accused of ordering the destruction of historical monuments in Timbuktu in 2012.

Tourab, who was a leader of the Al-Qaeda-linked Malian group Ansar Dine, is the first jihadist to appear before the war crimes court.

Stockly appears at the end of the video dressed in a black hijab. She identifies herself and the date as Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

A Swiss foreign ministry front man told AFP that Bern was "aware of the video in question," and called for the hostage's unconditional release.

The foreign ministry has previously said that it discouraged Stockly from further travel to Timbuktu following her first kidnapping.

The security situation in northern Mali has not stabilized since a loose coalition of Islamists and Tuareg rebels overran the region in 2012.

Jihadist fighters were largely chased from the area in 2013 by a French-led military intervention, but entire swathes of the area remain beyond the reach of both the Malian army and foreign troops.

The speaker in the video said AQIM had developed an expertise in dealing with Western hostages and was prepared to be "patient" while waiting for its demands to be met.

Stockly's capture is believed to be the first in northern Mali since the kidnap and murder of two French journalists late November 2013 in Kidal.

But an elderly Australian doctor and his wife were seized by jihadists in a remote town in neighboring Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
on the night of January 15-16.

That abduction, also reportedly carried out by fighters from AQIM, coincided with a jihadist assault on an upmarket hotel in Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou that left at least 30 people dead and raised fears of a widening Islamist threat in the region.

When Stockly was first kidnapped she was said to be the last Westerner living in Timbuktu, which she refused to leave when it fell to Ansar Dine.

Two weeks after her capture, special forces from Burkina Faso swept into rebel-held northern Mali aboard a helicopter and whisked her to safety in a pre-arranged handover.

At the time around two dozen hostages were seized in the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
, most of them held by AQIM and another Islamist group, the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO).

India-Pakistan
Chief's 'refusal' seen as PML-N's failure
[DAWN] ONE would think that Army Chief General Raheel Sharif
..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
's unequivocal statement, saying he is not interested in an extension, would have calmed frayed nerves in the PML-N camp, but not so.

In background discussions with Dawn, several ruling party insiders have expressed shock over what they see as the government allowing the military to tip the already-delicate balance of power in their favour, without putting up much of a fight.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
's term in office has been punctuated with tensions between the civilian and military leadership over issues such as membership of the military coalition against Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and implementation of the much-touted National Action Plan.

Commenting on the status of civil-military relations, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told Dawn, "I don't buy the argument that the civilian and military leadership are on one page."

Senior PML-N leaders told Dawn that the chief's statement was a reaction to media reports attributed to federal ministers, claiming that the government wanted to offer Gen Sharif more time in office. The justification presented for these claims was that the government wanted the general to see the NAP through to its conclusion, since the two institutions had gelled well in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

A news story, attributed to close aides of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had claimed that three senior members of the ruling party were in contact with GHQ in a bid to persuade the COAS to accept the extension in his term because the government wanted to ensure continuity of the anti-terrorism policy spearheaded by Gen Sharif.

-Land of the Free
Oregon standoff militia member LaVoy Finicum killed - Does anyone know what happened?
Here's a link to the Twitter chatter on what happened when LaVoy was killed.

As one would expect, it's all over the map. Some saying he charged them with his care while getting out, some say he was killed in cold blood while lying face down on the dirt.

Does anyone here have any definitive story on what really happened there? If not, then any good rumors or other comments? :-)

Ammon Bundy's driver said that Finicum drove off once he found out they were about to be arrested, but stopped just short of a roadblock about 200 yards further on, running his extended cab pickup truck into a snowbank. He exited the vehicle while it was still running. It is said, he ran towards the police.

Now what he did in the few remaining moments of his life between the time he exited the vehicle and the time he was gunned down, we will never know. The takedown area was considered to be federal land, which means whatever happened there will forever remain under the penumbra of federal jurisdiction.

If this is true, it appears that Finicum had two chances to survive the encounter with the police, and he blew them both.

In an Ace O'Spades Facebook group I am a member of, there's a saying: Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.

With regard to encounters with the cops, I tell everyone who will listen: You gotta survive the encounter, no matter what.

If you want to play Bill Kustler, the officer will accommodate you as best he can. But understand, he is there to do a job, so, if you act like a prick, he will respond in kind.

If you want to physically resist arrest, remember cops are wired a helluva lot tighter than you are, so unless you have extreme amounts of stamina, you won't win a fight with them either.

As matters stand now, Finicum could have gotten everyone in the vehicle he was driving killed, so those in the vehicle with him were extremely lucky.

As I have said elsewhere: When Paleface gets out the ARs, it's time to counsel peace.

Another view:

As I have written before, I think that the tactics chosen by Ammon Bundy and his group were unwise. However, they did have good reason to seek a redress of grievances, but it was foolish to occupy Federal property. (They should have studied the history of the Native American takeover of Alcatraz Island in 1969/1970. There, the Native Americans could at least claim that Alcatraz was “abandoned” Federal property.) Something tells me that Ammon Bundy will not be given nationwide television coverage of his trial. If he is afforded even a few minutes to make a truncated John Galt speech, few people outside of the courtroom will ever hear it.

Again, I recommend that the citizenry take up the pen, not the sword, in response to the protest at the Harney County Resource Center (aka Malheur Wildlife Refuge). The Federal government must be held accountable for their unconstitutional land grab in the western states. It is time for a redress of grievances.

All that I can safely predict is that this will probably not end well.

But please pray for a peaceful ending, that justice is served, and that our Constitutional rights are restored. – JWR

Other reports say 100 shots were fired, all by the police.

1. If you're headed to Burns, don't. You're not going to make the situation better. You're outgunned, outclassed and in terrain you don't understand.

2. As much as people won't want to hear it, a reliable source says there's video of the shooting of LaVoy. He's seen the video and says that LaVoy went for his revolver. According to him, LaVoy was not executed. I'm NOT confirming that this is the case, however, I'm inclined to believe it.

3. If we pressure the FBI and law enforcement, they are more likely to release the video. The video must be released in its unedited, original form.

3. I'd also like to encourage everyone to take a breather. Let's look at the facts as they come in. If LaVoy was executed or killed wrongfully then we can make some decisions. Until then, let's stay calm.

The major urban media is infested with MSM libs from out of state. However local sheriffs, the Governor and State Attorney General are litigating against the Regime. The state politicians are solidly on the ranchers side in Texas.

In Nevada and Oregon Federal land was the issue.
Along the Red River the Regime is coming for private property.

#9  According to eyewitness Victoria Sharp, 18 yrs old from Lakeside, Montana – who was in the same truck with Arizona rancher Robert ‘Lavoy’ Finicum, Ryan Bundy, Ryan Payne and Shawna Cox – dozens of federal vehicles and countless agents were waiting for the group, pre-positioned at a point along the isolated rural Highway 395, before intercepting the group and detaining 8 persons, including brothers Ammon and Ryan Bundy, who were booked into Multnomah County Jail early this morning.

I don't like the sound of this, I don't like it at all. Reminds me of a 'complex attack' in AFG. Roadblock, then sniper fire.

Whatever happened to the Rules of Engagement (ROE), ie, positive identification of hostiles, weapons, and incoming fire.

Evidently the Taliban gets ROE and American ranchers do not.

Sudan orders borders with S. Sudan to be reopened
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
on Wednesday ordered the reopening of the country's contested borders with South Sudan, state media reported after a dispute that in 2012 led to armed conflict.

Relations between Juba and Khartoum had been tense since South Sudan's secession split in 2011 under a peace deal that ended a bloody 22-year civil war, with disputes over several areas along the border.

"Field Marshal Omar al-Bashir, president of the republic, issued a resolution today (Wednesday) opening the border with the state of South Sudan," the Sudanese state news agency SUNA's website said.

The brief statement also said Bashir had ordered the "competent authorities to take all measures for the implementation of this resolution on the ground," but gave no further details.

Juba and Khartoum had remained at odds since 2011 on several unresolved issues from the secession, including the frontier.

kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls.

The blasts happened at about midday (1100 GMT) as the remote town in Borno state was packed with traders from surrounding villages for the weekly market, Chibok elder Ayuba Chibok told AFP.

"Ten was struck down in his prime and another one died on the way to hospital," said health worker Dazzban Buba, who volunteered to treat the injured at hospital.

"A woman and a child died as they were being admitted (to hospital), so now the corpse count stands at 13. Thirty others were maimed, 21 critically."

The blasts bore the hallmarks of Boko Haram, which has repeatedly hit "soft" civilian targets such as markets, mosques and bus stations as well as military and civilian vigilante checkpoints.

Chibok came to prominence in April 2014 when Islamist fighters stormed a boarding school and kidnapped 276 girls, causing global outrage.

Fifty-seven girls managed to escape in the immediate aftermath but 219 are still being held and have not been seen since they appeared in a Boko Haram video in May that year.

Ayuba Chibok and Buba both said Wednesday's blasts were suicide kabooms and had prompted terrified residents to lock themselves inside their homes or flee in fear of repeat attacks.

"The first bomber set off his explosives at the checkpoint where people coming into the town were being searched," said the town elder.

"A second bomber managed to get into the market and went kaboom!. A third bomber was identified and residents pursued him.

"When he realized he was about to be apprehended he detonated his explosives in an area not far from the market."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian warbirds hit Kurd areas in Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – The Syrian regime’s air force hit a Kurdish-populated district in the northern Aleppo city with several barrel bombs, killing and wounding a number of civilians, local sources reported on Wednesday.

At least five civilians were killed, including two children, and nine others were injured in the regime’s bombardment in Sheikh Maqsoud district.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, civil rights activist Hozan Haddo said that three barrel bombs dropped by Syrian military helicopters hit a crowded market in central Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo.

“The bombardment has caused a mass destruction in the targeted market and left more than 15 civilian casualties,” Haddo reported.

Some of the victims were pulled from the rubble of destroyed shops in the district.

Sheikh Maqsoud is under the control of the Kurdish forces the People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The YPG has repeatedly clashed with Islamist fighters of al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front in the vicinity of Sheikh Maqsoud district, as the Kurdish forces have been trying to defend the district for more than a year against al-Qaeda offensives.

This is the first time that the Syrian air force bomb the Sheikh Maqsoud district with barrel bombs.
This, from An Nahar, may have something to do with the Syrian decision to act:
Al-Nusra Front Boosts Presence in Aleppo

Al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria, Al-Nusra Front, has boosted its presence in the country's divided former economic capital of Aleppo, a monitoring group said on Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Al-Nusra has erected new positions in several districts of the northern city after having sent in a convoy of 200 vehicles loaded with fighters.

The group has deployed in rebel-held eastern Aleppo, said the Britannia-based Observatory which relies on a vast network of sources on the ground for its information.

Al-Nusra itself posted on Twitter a video of dozens of four-wheel-drive vehicles transporting gunnies through Aleppo.

"This show of force could signal that Al-Nusra is preparing to take over command of future battles in Aleppo" against government forces, the Observatory said.

The monitoring group's head, Rami Abdel Rahman, said other rebel movements in the city were weakening, among them the Nureddin Zinki group of moderate Islamists that was running out of funds to repair its vehicles or feed its 4,000 fighters.

Al-Nusra's reinforcements were dispatched from Idlib province, a bastion of the group in northwest Syria bordering The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, the Observatory said.

In mid-January, a security source said pro-regime forces were poised to launch a major offensive to retake Aleppo province and sever supply routes to rebels in the placid provincial capital.

With mom still running, Chelsea Clinton's already gearing up for White House bid
[NYDAILYNEWS] One Clinton at a time, please.

The private invite to Princess Chelsea Clinton's Wednesday night fund-raiser, to be held at a swanky Upper East Side residence, reads that it's in support of her mother's 2016 presidential bid. But some of the big spenders plunking down the big bucks to attend say Chelsea's future in politics has been the talk of her campaign rallies.

"You're seeing the beginning of Chelsea Clinton preparing to run," says a donor who attended Chelsea's rally at Dr. Paul Boskind's Midtown home last week, where "limited availability guest" entry started at $250 and $2,700 "champion" tickets included a photo with Chelsea. Our insider says: "A dynasty is on the way."
Has to be this way. The Clinton Mafia Machine Foundation has one overriding charitable goal in life: to ensure the Clintons live the life to which they've become accustomed. That means one of them always is running for office of one kind or another. That keeps the cash, the speaking fees, the appearances, the Davos conferences, and the Bilderberg slots going. The day no Clinton is running or appearing to run for office, the money stops. So Chelsea is making noises right about the time it looks like Hilarity is about to tank the 2016 election (to be fair, she's good at blowing presidential runs). Whether Chelsea's first step is a safe seat in Congress or in Albany, it's what she has to do.

It's a business.

#8  How about an Amendment barring any Clinton or Bush from holding federal office for 100 years. I realize more drastic action would be justified, but it's a start.

#10  Not even bothering to have any elected positions on the resume these days. Way we have really lowered the bar if anyone takes her seriously.

#11  Lack of prior elected positions is a benefit. Obama led the way: be a blank slate upon which everyone may inscribe their own hopes and dreams. Works better when there's no pesky reality to interfere.

#16  this Family has done nothing but erode America.
They spent their lives as leeches, grafting the public trough to enrich themselves.
There is nothing but bad seed from this Arkansas tree.

#18  When will these leeches go away?

Only when there is no more blood to suck.

Or they are shot into the sun.
