Trump victory could cause federal employees to quit -- poll
No link - from proprietary newsletter.

Donald Trump leads the GOP field in a new survey of federal government employees, but one-fourth of those polled said they would think about leaving their jobs if he is elected president.

If the real estate mogul wins, 14 percent of respondents said they would consider leaving the federal service in the poll released Friday by the Government Business Council, the research arm of Government Executive Media Group. An additional 11 percent answered "maybe."

Be still my heart. Any chance we can make it 100%?

Israeli Justice Minister Shaked: 'We Will Not Commit Suicide'
h/t Gates of Vienna
SPIEGEL: Minister Shaked, the Knesset is currently discussing a bill you proposed that would require NGOs funded by foreign governments to disclose the donations they receive. The law would primarily affect left-leaning peace and human rights groups. Is this an attack on Israeli democracy?

Shaked: This law does not hurt any democratic principles -- it does not harm the freedom of speech or the freedom of organization. We do not even limit the donations. It is just a transparency bill. The Israeli public has the right to know which organizations are representing foreign interests.

SPIEGEL: Your proposal is strongly reminiscent of similar laws by authoritarian regimes like Egypt or Russia. You once claimed that the United States has similar regulations, but the US ambassador to Israel just publicly contradicted that statement.
He's wrong.
Do you not fear that you could harm your country's reputation?

Shaked: It is inappropriate for a country to intervene in the internal issues of another country like this. I want to bring the discussion back to the main issue at hand: Why doesn't anyone address the substantive question of why other states blatantly interfere in Israel's internal affairs? Israel does not meddle in the affairs of other states in a similar way, so why do other countries feel entitled to do this to Israel? These actions violate Israeli sovereignty and I expect European Union member states to act differently.

SPIEGEL: So is your bill in fact targeting foreign governments?

Shaked: Every time I meet an ambassador, I bring to the a table a list of NGOs I think are acting against Israel, promoting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) or denouncing our soldiers. I ask from them to stop contributing to these specific NGOs. But, unfortunately, it does not help. I do not want countries that are friends of ours to contribute to such organizations.

SPIEGEL: So you are admitting that your proposal is about more than just transparency? Are you also trying to limit the work of certain critical organizations?

Shaked: No. I am talking about two different paths here. I am saying that I am trying to minimize the donations to these groups by talking to diplomats. The transparency bill also has the purpose of enabling the Israeli public and members of Knesset to know whose interests certain organizations represent.
A very friendly, open minded interviewer, neh?

Police probing damaged cars at Chattanooga Jewish Center
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Chattanooga say they're investigating two damaged vehicles outside a Jewish cultural center, including one that was severely burned.

No one was injured. Authorities were called to the center early Sunday. Chattanooga police spokeman Kyle Miller says fire officials have asked the police department to lead the investigation.

Miller says police plan to increase patrols at Jewish centers and synagogues.

INTERNAL POLICE BULLETIN: CFD 1357 CPD 10147 Multiple car fires also attempted building fire. Location of 5461 N. Terrace, Jewish Cultural Center. All agencies need to patrol their Jewish buildings.

Newest San Francisco Attraction: Open-Air Urinals
[LI] The first open-air public urinal in San Francisco has been unveiled in the city's Delores Park.

The concrete circular urinal was opened in the latest move to combat the destructive scourge of public urination in the city.

And although it is in the open air, it does afford users some privacy as a screen protects the front of the urinal and it is surrounded by plants.

...They were the park's first upgrades in 60 years and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department say they are unaware of any other cities with a public urinal.

Fox: Contacts in the FBI and DOJ are 'Super PO'd' at the White House
[PJmedia] According to Fox News' chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge, her contacts in the FBI and DOJ are "super pissed off" at what White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said about Hillary Clinton's email problems Friday. "That's not something I'm worried about," he told reporters at the daily briefing.

Earnest threw cold water on predictions that Hillary Clinton will face a Justice Department indictment for mishandling classified information on her private and unsecure email server while secretary of State..

"That will be a decision that will be made by the Department of Justice," he said. "Some officials have said she is not the target of the investigation and it does not seem to be the direction in which it is trending."
Pressed again on whether he believed Clinton could get indicted, Earnest said firmly: "It doesn't seem to be headed in that direction."

Catherine Herridge told Greta Van Susteren on Fox News Friday evening that her sources in the FBI and Justice Department have "their backs up" over Earnest's comments.
Catherine Herridge may wish to recruit new contacts and sources. Her current contacts appear quite naive.

'€˜Eyewash': How the CIA deceives its own workforce about operations
[WAPO] Senior CIA officials have for years intentionally deceived parts of the agency workforce by transmitting internal memos that contain false information about operations and sources overseas, according to current and former U.S. officials who said the practice is known by the term "eyewash."

Agency veterans described the tactic as an infrequent but important security measure, a means of protecting vital secrets by inserting fake communications into routine cable traffic while using separate channels to convey accurate information to cleared recipients.

But others cited a significant potential for abuse. Beyond the internal distrust implied by the practice, officials said there is no clear mechanism for labeling eyewash cables or distinguishing them from legitimate records being examined by the CIA's inspector general, turned over to Congress or declassified for historians.
A Klingon disinformation campaign using internal sources and leaks to target the Congress, the media, and historians? How novel....well, not really.

#1  The good news for Clinton is that the bar for any legal damage from that investigation is high.

Yes, the bar is much, much lower with imprisonment and hefty fines assured for the little people.
Posted by: Besoeker || 02/01/2016 4:27 Comments || Top||

#2  The laws also empower the FBI and prosecutors to seek punishment for gross negligence in the handling of secrets generated by spy agencies like the NSA. Proving that in a court, however, requires evidence that Clinton had a “guilty state of mind,” according to George W. Bush’s last Attorney General, Michael Mukasey....

Yes, but the law assumes that the target of an investigation has at least some vestige of a "moral compass" that would enable that person to feel the emotion of guilt, or remorse. The Hildebeast lacks any capacity to feel remorse or guilt - her malignant hubris is so extreme that she feels that she is above national security laws, criminal laws - and any other kind of law.

The thought of this wretched excuse for human being becoming POTUS just chills me to the bone. It would be as if the Wicked Witch of The West and her evil flying monkeys had become the real rulers of the Land Of Oz.

Home Front: WoT
ISIS threatens feds, military after theft of personal data
The federal workforce, already shaken by a massive cybertheft of personal data, now confronts another reality -- ISIS has some of that same information.

Ardit Ferizi, 20, from Kosovo, was in federal court last week on charges he provided the brutal terrorist organization names, email addresses, passwords and locations of federal employees and military members.

It's worth noting up front the number of people whose information was stolen for ISIS is small -- 1,351, compared to the 21.5 million people whose background security clearance data was poached in the cybertheft announced last year.

Also, there is no reported harm -- physical, financial or otherwise -- to the cyber victims from ISIS. The FBI's criminal complaint against Ferizi, however, paints a frightening picture of what the terrorist group, aka ISIL, planned for that information. More broadly, this case, like the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation, is another indication of the particular threat federal government personnel and workplaces face from extremists, foreign and domestic.

"Specifically, the PII (personally identifiable information), stolen by Ferizi was knowingly provided to ISIL to be used by ISIL members and supporters to conduct terrorist attacks against the US government employees whose names and locations were published," according to the document filed in federal district court in Alexandria by FBI Special Agent Kevin M. Gallagher.

It's one thing if a cyber identity thief goes on a Best Buy shopping spree at your expense. It's quite another if your personal information is obtained by those who practice mass murder.

This has to raise concern for public servants who must trust their employer to safeguard their information, despite serious indications that Uncle Sam, as well as many in the private sector, really can't be trusted in that department. No one is safe. In October, a teenager claimed responsibility for hacking the private AOL email account of CIA Director John Brennan. The New York Post said the account held his security clearance information, including family Social Security numbers.

Last month, the White House outlined the measures the Obama administration is taking to strengthen cyber protections, including stronger authentication for computer systems, increasing scans for compromise and tightening practices for privileged users. Also, OPM has created the position of senior cyber adviser to help cut the risk of future intrusions. In October, the White House released its plan to modernize federal cybersecurity.

The complaint by Gallagher, formerly an independent contractor for two intelligence agencies, says Ferizi stole the information from the computer server that hosts the website of an unnamed business, referred to as "Victim Company." Little was revealed about the firm, except it is a retailer "that sells goods via the Internet to customers in multiple states." The server is located in Phoenix, but Gallagher noted that some theft victims live in the Eastern District of Virginia, which includes an area from the District's suburbs to Richmond and the Hampton Roads region. This part of the state probably was cited because it's the jurisdiction of the district court.

Ferizi allegedly stole personal information belonging not to just federal employees and service members, but to about 100,000 people in total, according to Gallagher. But the suspected intended use of the government personnel data is chilling.

Sometime between June 13 and August 11, 2015, Ferizi provided the personal information "to ISIL, intending it to be used by and for ISIL, and knowing that ISIL would use the PII against the US personnel, including to target the US personnel for attacks and violence," the complaint reads.

On August 11, Junaid Hussain, "a known ISIL member" who received stolen information from Ferizi, reposted an Islamic State Hacking Division tweet, according to the FBI. The tweet linked to a 30-page document with a warning to the "Crusaders:"

"We are in your emails and computer systems, watching and recording your every move, we have your names and addresses, we are in your emails and social media accounts, we are extracting confidential data and passing on your personal information to the soldiers of the khilafah, who soon with the permission of Allah will strike at your necks in your own lands!"

The following 27 pages in the document listed the names, email addresses and passwords, locations and phone numbers for U.S. personnel, according to the FBI. The complaint says the Islamic State Hacking Division, which the FBI says is linked to Ferizi, posted a "Kill List" in March that purportedly included the names and addresses of 100 U.S. service members.

Ferizi was arrested in Malaysia last year. Using the handle Th3Dir3ctorY, he led an Internet hacking group of ethnic Albanians called Kosova Hacker's Security (KHS), the FBI said.

KHS has hit government and private websites in Israel, Serbia, Greece and Ukraine. The group claims it has hacked more than 20,000 websites, including Interpol, the international police organization, IBM research and Microsoft's Hotmail, according to the complaint. KHS also claimed responsibility for having posted more than 7,000 Israeli credit card numbers in January 2012.

When five top administration officials announced new measures for background investigations several days ago, they said "we are committed to protecting the security of not only our systems and data, but also the Personally Identifiable Information of the people we entrust with protecting our national security."

Is that a commitment they -- or anyone -- can keep?

Then you know better Spanky.

That being said, I would like to remind our viewers of the Highlights of Mosul, directed by the ISJV, where they were cross referencing IDs with a database.

Government
Secret Fed Docs Show Obama Misled Congress, Public During Debt Limit Crises
Federal Reserve Bank of New York officials secretly conducted real-time exercises during the 2011 and 2013 debt-limit crisis that demonstrated the federal government could function during a temporary shutdown by prioritizing spending, even as Treasury Secretary Jack Lew publicly claimed many times that such efforts were "unworkable," according to a new report by the House Financial Services Committee obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The staff report, to be released Tuesday, charges that Lew and other Obama administration officials deliberately misled Congress and the public during the federal budget and debt limit showdowns in both years. The committee will convene a public hearing on the report Feb. 2.
Of course he did. Can't let a manufactured crisis go to waste.
The report also states that the Obama administration crafted actual contingency plans to pay for Social Security and veterans benefits, as well as principal and interest on the national debt if the government was temporarily unable to borrow more money. The Committee concludes that over the last two years the Treasury Department has "obstructed" congressional efforts to get to the bottom of the administration's real-time policy during the two showdowns.

The Constitution stipulates that only Congress can determine how much money the federal government can borrow. Presidents thus cannot unilaterally spend beyond congressional debt ceiling limits set. The committee ‐ chaired by Republican Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas ‐ charged that during both confrontations, the Obama administration held the country's creditworthiness "hostage" by claiming default was the only possibility if the debit ceiling was not raised.
Since when have the laws for the little people stopped the lightbringer?
"These internal documents show the Obama Administration took the nation's creditworthiness and economy hostage in a cynical attempt to create a crisis so the president could get what he wanted during negotiations over the debt ceiling," Hensarling said in a statement to be released with the report Tuesday.
That's a nice credit rating. Would be a shame if something happened to it.
The report also revealed that the Treasury Department did not publicly divulge its plans to prioritize payments "for the express purpose of creating market uncertainty in an effort to pressure Congress to acquiesce in the administration's ‘no negotiation' posture on the debt ceiling."

Wisconsin Republican Rep. Sean Duffy, the financial services panel's oversight subcommittee chairman, said the administration "manufactured a crisis to put politics ahead of economic stability."

The massive, 322-page report chronicles frank, behind-the-scenes discussions among Federal Reserve Board and Federal Bank of New York officials as Congress debated whether to keep existing debt limits or allow Treasury to borrow more money. The House committee and the Treasury Department have been fighting a bitter, two-year battle over Federal Reserve documents.

The report states that "Treasury apparently directed the New York Fed not to answer valid congressional oversight inquiries because Treasury knew the answers would expose the dishonesty of the administration's public statements."
Dishonesty is the hallmark of this administration and now most of the government. The reckoning is coming motherfuckers. And you will not like it.

PMC Top Dawg dies in missile attack
The Yemeni military backed by fighters of the Ansarullah resistance movement launched overnight Saturday a Tochka ballistic missile on the al-And military base in the southern Yemeni province, a Yemeni military source reported.

The huge attack killed Colonel Nicholas Petros, the new commander of the infamous US security firm, Blackwater, and at least 200 mercenaries of Saudi Arabia were killed or injured in Lahij Province.

Apache helicopters, Typhoon fighter jets and armories belonging to the mercenaries were destroyed in the missile strike.

Blackwater has had to change its name several times due to its ill fame around the world. It is now known as the Academi. The company, which went by the alias Xe Services before its current name, is one of the most notorious private security firms in the world for killing scores of civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Yemen.

Iraq
ISIS artillery pounds Kurd command center near Mosul
ERBIL – At least eight fighters from the Kurdish Peshmerga were killed and six more wounded when militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) bombed Peshmerga’s headquarters in northern Iraq, military sources reported on Sunday.

The Peshmerga ministry of Iraqi Kurdistan said in a statement that ISIS launched an attack with mortar fire on their headquarters in Khazir district, about 40km east of Mosul.

“Daesh terrorists launched several mortar shells on a security center for our forces in Khazir on Sunday evening,” Peshmerga leadership said, using another acronym for ISIS.

“The terror attack led to the martyrdom of eight of our soldiers,” it said, adding that six others were injured.

“The wounded soldiers were transferred to Erbil (capital of Iraqi Kurdistan) for treatment,” the Kurdish leadership added.

Speaking to ARA News in Erbil, Peshmerga officer Mehme Khalil said: “Our forces were able to impede ISIS’s progress in eastern Mosul. The group now relies on mortar fire and suicide bombs to hit the ranks of the Peshmerga.”

After the Kurdish Peshmerga army recaptured the Yezidi region of Shingal (Sinjar) and other areas in northern Iraq from ISIS last November, the radical group has recently launched several mortar attacks and suicide bombings targeting the Peshmerga headquarters in a bid to retake positions.

This comes as the Peshmerga army and Iraqi government forces, supported by the U.S.-led coalition, prepare an extended military campaign to regain Mosul city, which is deemed the main bastion for ISIS in Iraq.

Houthi rebels accused of confiscating aid
Krazee Islamic fighters gotta eat, too...
Human Rights Watch on Sunday accused Yemen's Houthi rebels of confiscating humanitarian aid sent into Taez, urging the Iran-backed insurgents to allow access into the besieged city.

The rebels "should immediately end the unlawful confiscation of goods intended for the civilian population and permit full access by aid agencies," HRW said in a statement.

"Seizing property from civilians is already unlawful, but taking their food and medical supplies is simply cruel," its deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, Joe Stork, said.

HRW said the population of the city had dropped from about 600,000 to no more than 200,000 civilians after many fled the fighting, according to UN figures.

Since at least September, the rights watchdog said, rebel guards at checkpoints have confiscated water, food, cooking gas and medical supplies that residents tried to carry into besieged areas.

International relief agencies are also facing difficulties bringing in food and medicine, HRW said.

Doctors Without Borders said it delivered essential medical supplies to hospitals in the city in early January, in the first such ‘significant’ shipment since August.

That came several days after a Saudi charity said that aircraft of the Saudi-led coalition that is fighting the rebels had dropped 40 tonnes of medical equipment and food to Taez.

The coalition has since March conducted air and ground operations in Yemen to support local forces against the rebels and their allies.

More than 5,800 people have been killed in Yemen since March, about half of them civilians, according to the UN

ISIS Controlling Libya’s Nerve Agent Sarin Gas Storage
While the US Obama administration is considering starting up a new frontier against ISIS in Libya, in efforts of ending the option of terrorists establishing a new center and taking advantage of the state of chaos there, the pentagon began preparing for options of military intervention.

The US Secretary of Defense claimed that action should be taken before Libya is turned into harbor for ISIS extremists, and before complication upturns, in terms of removing them from the country, Agence France-Presse reported.

The US Secretary of Defense revealed that the aftermath of extremists influx into Libya can be compared that with Iraq and Syria, and stated that all efforts should be spent for the situation to be contained in prevention of it escalating like what had happened to the latter mentioned.

Informed sources revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the Sarin gas is a compound chemical forbidden by the international law and stated that its a chemical that nerve agent developed into weapons of mass destruction, is present in Libya.

Worth noting that sites rich with Sarin gas storage in Libya are at a majority under control of ISIS extremists.

Furthermore, sources revealed that zones known for holding the highest percentages of Sarin gas storage in Libya like al-Nakhlat compound, located in the Bab al Huriya area, are infested with armed ISIS militants.

Statements came in, on militants stealing large excesses of the nerve agent and sending it to their fellow ISIS militants in the city of Sirte, located halfway between Tripoli and Benghazi, in cargo dispatched under the name of “Al-Rabita merchandise”. Al-Rabita is a mountainous city famous for palm trees and streams of water.

Fresh fighting in Gasr Ben Gashir
[Libya Herald] There have been fierce clashes in the partly rural south Tripoli suburb of Gasr Ben Gashir between Misratan forces and fighters belonging to Salah Marghani’s brigade. They started last night but continued throughout the day. There are casualties, with the number of dead put at as many as ten although only one has been named so far. A number of local families have fled the area for safety.

The fighting started following the killing of one of the Misratans, allegedly by Marghani’s men.

There has been no official statement, however, about who is involved although Misratans are thought to belong to the same Adiat Brigade which clashed with the Marghani’s men in the same area two months ago.

Roads in the area have been blocked by sand barriers to prevent other forces entering.

It is reported that statement local elders plan to issue a statement calling on the Misratans to leave the area.

Afghanistan
Dand-e-Ghori Officials Regret Deal With Taliban
Always a morning after...
Officials who signed the controversial Dand-e-Ghori deal, on Sunday expressed their regrets over the accord with the Taliban.

They say the deal over Dand-e-Ghori area of Baghlan province could have paved the way for a surge in activities of the Taliban and expanded their influence in the volatile region.

Outraged by the deal, members of the Baghlan provincial council on Sunday said that the deal led the entire area to be out of the control of the government, calling on the prosecution of the elements who made the deal with the hardline group.

Violence increased dramatically in the area following the deal.

"We thought that they (Taliban) will avoid violence, but they exploited the opportunity," said Safdar Mohseni, one if those who signed the deal.

It is believed that the deal paved the way for Taliban insurgents to gain footholds in other areas, a move that has posed serious threats to northern and northeastern provinces.

"It was a poisoned deal," said a member of Baghlan provincial council Mohammad Hanif.

"The accord increased the morale of the enemy and it certified the existence of the enemy in Baghlan."

"Government must launch an investigation into the matter and prosecute those who played a role in signing the accord," another member Mohammad Zarif said.

Led by the minister of borders and tribal affairs Gulab Mangal, a government delegation visited Baghlan six months ago and signed the MoU with the Taliban which many believe was against a presidential order. The deal agreed Afghan security forces would not launch operations in Dand-e-Ghori.

"The enemy recruited fighters here and trained them. Taliban infiltrated from Dand-e-Ghori to Kunduz and other areas," Baghlan MP Muhaiuddin Mahdi said.

Amid a surge in Taliban's insurgency in Baghlan, the Afghan security forces however have launched a military campaign against the insurgents in Dand-e-Ghori and Dand-e-Shahbuddin areas in an attempt to eliminate the Taliban fighters and clear the area of the militants.

"Not only in Dand-e-Ghori, the security forces will continue their operation against them in all areas including Dand-e-Ghori and Dand-e-Shahbuddin," Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for the ministry of interior said.

This comes months after a similar accord had been signed with the Taliban in Musa Qala district of Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, a deal which later led to numerious challenges for Afghan troops.

Blue on Blue: Video Shows Rift Between Taliban Factions
A new video reportedly recorded in Faryab province shows that a Taliban local commander Sayed Hashim Hashemi accuses Taliban's new leader Mullah Akhter Mansour of having plotted the murder of the group's longtime leader Mullah Omar.

In the video, he warns Mullah Mansour of a severe response.

The Taliban split into several factions after reports emerged that the group's reclusive leader Mullah Omar had died two and half years ago in Pakistan, an announcement which sparked an internal power struggle, allegedly leading to a split.

"We do not have affiliation to the government, but we hear that ISI (Pakistan's military intelligence) is reconciling among them (Mullah Mansour faction plus government). This is a war of politics and the entire people know it. You will soon see the collapse of the entire Faryab province and people will join us.

Because Mullah Rasoul is our elder and their's (rival faction) is Akhter Mansour who works under ISI," Sayed Hashim Hashemi said.

"Akhter Mansour is the killer of Mullah Mohammad Omar. Mullah Rasoul is a Mujahid and the whole world knows this. But Akhter Mansour is the killer of Mullah Mohammad Omar. Akhter Mansour is a branch of Pakistan's ISI. Our elders have announced their disagreements against him. The people maintain rights on us in Islamic perspective and according to Sharia law and human rights," he says in the video.

Despite such contradictions, so far none of the groups have given the green light to negotiate with the government and both have continued their armed attacks against the government.

The new video is the second of its kind after Mansour's rival faction refused to pledge their allegiance to him at a gathering reportedly held in Farah province a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the Afghan security institutions have reiterated that the security forces will continue to fight any insurgent group including the Taliban.

Turks block evacuations from Cizre
CIZRE – Amid increasing civilian casualties in the Kurdish town of Cizre in southeastern Turkey, the authorities prevented on Sunday the evacuation of people stranded in the war-torn town. At least 20 civilians were injured Sunday in renewed bombardment by the Turkish army in Cizre.

“Some of the wounded are in critical conditions, but the authorities prevented us from transferring them to another town for treatment,” local civil rights activist Sedad Ciziri told ARA News in Cizre.

Cizre, located in the southeastern province of Şırnak, has been under army siege for nearly two months, while a 24-hour curfew has been imposed by the authorities. The artillery shelling by the army forces repeatedly hit residential neighborhoods in the town, causing the death of at least 60 civilians and the injury of dozens more over the last few weeks.

This comes amid intensified shelling and bombardment in Kurdish towns and villages in Şırnak and Diyarbakir at the hands of the Turkish troops.

Civilian Casualties in War on PKK?

Although the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claims its military campaign on the Kurdish region is aimed at combatting rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), monitoring groups and human rights activists accused the army of targeting civilians.

“Under the pretext of combatting PKK members, the Turkish authorities are bombing infrastructures and residential neighborhoods across Şırnak and Diyarbakir,” said Hoshin Ebdullah, a Kurdish lawyer and human rights activist.

He added that civilians stranded in Kurdish areas under the ongoing military campaign suffer a sharp shortage of food and medicines, beside constant cut of electricity and water.

“Dozens of civilians have been killed, hundreds injured and tens of thousands displaced due to the brutal operations by the Turkish forces southeastern the country,” Ebdullah told ARA News. “More than 100,000 displaced people have been documented in two months, while many others remain stranded in war-torn towns and villages in the Kurdish region.”

Speaking to ARA News in the war-torn town of Cizre in Şırnak province, civil rights activist Ehmed Hokenek said: “The Turkish army avoids mentioning the civilian casualties in its brutal campaign against the Kurdish region.”

“We hope that the international community would ever take action and stop this brutal military campaign against the Kurds in Turkey,” he said.

The statement said around 500 PKK terrorists had been “neutralized” in Cizre and 149 in Sur since early December. Security forces defused ten improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and seized firearms and ammunition in Cizre while another three IEDs were dismantled in Sur.

Later, following Kamal's refusal, the magistrate ordered to send him to jail. Earlier on Thursday another metropolitan magistrate placed him on a two-day remand for interrogation.

the first accused from a house of the capital's Chawkbazar over the sexual assaults on Wednesday.

The arrest of Kamal, 35, came just into a little over a month after the Sherlocks submitted the final report in the case to a Dhaka court, saying they had failed to identify or arrest anyone in connection with the incident.

The latest development has now prompted them to seek revival of the case. IO Dipak, on Thursday submitted an application to the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 seeking revival of the sexual assault case.

The court fixed February 23 to pass an order on the appeal.

On April 14, last year, gangs of unruly youths swooped on around five to seven women and sexually harassed them when thousands of people joined the Pohela Boishakh celebrations in the DU's TSC and Suhrawardy Udyan gate areas.

The joyous celebration of the Bangalee's biggest festival was tainted by the incidents that sparked a wave of protest throughout the country with people from all quarters.

Later, police filed a case with Shahbagh cop shoppe over the incidents on April 17.

Although the police initially denied the incident, they later released photos of eight suspected offenders and announced bounty for providing information about them.

Iraq
ISIS executes 4 in Mosul
ERBIL – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed on Sunday four Kurdish people in Iraq’s northwestern city of Mosul on charges of spying for the Peshmerga. The victims, who belonged to the Kurdish Shabak clan, were reportedly arrested earlier in January in eastern Mosul.

“After 20 days of detention in the ISIS-held central prison of Mosul, the group decided to execute the four Kurdish young men on charges of spying for the Peshmerga army,” Raafat Zarari, spokesman of Nineveh media center, told ARA News on Sunday.

The victims were accused of leaking security information about ISIS movements to the Iraqi Kurdistan’s Peshmerga army.

“The four young men were executed by firing squad in the Bakkir district in eastern Mosul,” the source said.

The radical group has earlier executed hundreds of Kurdish civilians in northern Iraq on similar charges.

Backed by the U.S.-led coalition, the Kurdish Peshmerga troops have recently advanced against ISIS militant fighters in the vicinity of Mosul, amid preparations to storm the city –which is deemed the main bastion for ISIS in Iraq.

Former director admits stealing from Missouri shelter
[COLUMBIAMISSOURIAN] The former director of a domestic violence shelter in south-central Missouri has admitted stealing about $30,000 from the shelter.

The office of the U.S. Attorney for Western Missouri says in a release that 64-year-old Mary Young pleaded guilty to credit card fraud in connection with the embezzlement scheme at the Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment (COPE) shelter in Leb.

The prosecutor's office says Young was the executive director of COPE from August 2008 through June 2014. The fraud wasn't discovered until after she resigned.

As part of the guilty plea, Young admitted that she used shelter credit cards to make unauthorized personal purchases for things like gas, meals and clothes.

The release says Young's fraudulent purchases totaled more than $30,800. She entered the plea last week.

Iran's supreme leader awards medals to troops who 'captured' U.S. sailors
[FOXNEWS] Iran's supreme leader awarded medals to members of the Iranian Navy who he said "captured intruding" U.S. Navy sailors during a tense incident this month.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei awarded the Order of Fat'h medal to the head of the navy of the Revolutionary Guards and four commanders who seized the two U.S. Navy vessels, according to Rooters. Iran's state media reported the news on Sunday.

In a tweet sent from his account Sunday, Khamenei misidentified those who were "captured" as being members of the Marines.

On Jan. 12, Iran captured 10 sailors whose boats "misnavigated" into Iranian waters, according to Defense Secretary Ash Carter. Though the sailors were released the following day, Iran released video of the sailors being captured, detained and apologizing for the incursion.

In one of the more enduring images from the video of the capture, the sailors are shown kneeling on the decks of the boats, with their hands on their heads, all while being watched by armed Iranian troops. Though U.S. officials initially sought to downplay the encounter, Carter recently said the images made him "very, very angry."

Europe
France to recognise Palestinian state if new peace effort fails
France has issued an ultimatum to Israel, saying it will recognise a Palestinian state if a renewed push for a two-state solution fails.
What's the point of diplomacy then?
The French foreign minister, Laurent Fabius, announced on Friday that France was trying to convene an international peace summit to renew diplomatic efforts by Israel and the Palestinians. He said that if diplomacy failed, France would formally recognise a Palestinian state. Speaking at a conference of French diplomats in Paris, Fabius said: “Unfortunately, Israeli settlement construction continues. We must not let the two-state solution unravel. It is our responsibility as a permanent member of the UN security council.”

The Palestinians have welcomed France’s renewed efforts to negotiate a two-state solution at talks that are expected to include leaders from the US, Europe and Arab nations. The chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, said any agreement would require full cessation of Israeli settlement activities within a “specified timeframe”.

Israel has rejected the French drive toward a peace initiative. A senior official said Fabius’s threat to recognise a Palestine state was counter-productive. “There is no logic in a deadline for recognition of a Palestinian state, it will only encourage the Palestinians not to negotiate,” he said.

In April 2014, efforts led by the US – particularly the secretary of state, John Kerry – to broker peace between Israel and the Palestinian territories collapsed. No serious plans to resume talks have been made since.

In December 2014, France supported a UN security council resolution creating a framework for a final resolution of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Those efforts failed due to opposition from Israel and the US on one hand, and an unwillingness by the Palestinians on the other to compromise on the wording of the decision.

Last year France suggested creating an international support group for peace talks. The group met on the sidelines of the UN last year, but without Israelis of Palestinians. Since that meeting Fabius has pushed for the UN security council to condemn Israeli settlements, but this also failed.

Missouri Feral Hog Hunting Ban
[COLUMBIAMISSOURIAN] 2. Hunting feral hogs will be banned on all land owned, leased or managed by the state Department of Conservation. The Department of Conservation found that hunting was counterproductive to eradicating the destructive hog population.
Texas and many other western states have pretty much open season on feral hogs. They cause a half billion dollars a year in damage, just in Texas. They pollute waterways with e.coli and will root up acres of cultivated land at a time. One sow can litter up to twice a year, with anywhere from a half dozen to a dozen little piggies who'll be ready to breed themselves at between eight months and a year. Probably because I'm politically incorrect and getting dumber the further I progress into my dotage, I can't grasp how not killing as many of them as you can is "counterproductive." The same people would likely say the same thing about zombies.

Anti-Houthi Yemen coalition forms team to assess rules of engagement
This should go well...
RIYADH: The Saudi-led Arab coalition battling Shiite rebels in Yemen announced Sunday the creation of an independent commission of inquiry to examine charges of possible abuses against civilians in the conflict.

In a brief statement published by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the coalition said it formed “an independent team of experts in international humanitarian law and weapons to assess the incidents and investigate the rules of engagement.”

The coalition said the objective was to “develop a clear and comprehensive report on each incident with the conclusions, lessons learned, recommendations and measures that should be taken” to spare civilians.

A panel of United Nations experts in a report obtained by AFP on Tuesday said the coalition has carried out 119 sorties that violated humanitarian law, and it called for an international commission of inquiry.

The coalition command said it regrets civilian deaths in the country, but asserted that these were "unintended," and was investigating the matter and improving its targeting mechanisms.

Yemen descended into chaos when Iran-backed Houthi militias and loyalists of former Yemen president Ali Abdullah Saleh fought the UN-recognized government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, prompting neighboring Gulf and other Arab countries to intervene.
More than 5,800 people have since been killed and 27,000 wounded, according to UN figures.

About 60 percent of all civilian deaths and injuries were caused by air-launched explosives, the report said.

'This was all planned': Former IG says Hillary, State Dept. are lying
[NYPOST] The State Department is lying when it says it didn't know until it was too late that Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Dean Rusk ...
was improperly using personal e-mails and a private server to conduct official business -- because it never set up an agency e-mail address for her in the first place, the department's former top watchdog says.

"This was all planned in advance" to skirt rules governing federal records management, said Howard J. Krongard, who served as the agency's inspector general from 2005 to 2008.

The Harvard-educated lawyer points out that, from Day One, Clinton was never assigned and never used a state.gov e-mail address like previous secretaries.

"That's a change in the standard. It tells me that this was premeditated. And this eliminates claims by the State Department that they were unaware of her private e-mail server until later," Krongard said in an exclusive interview. "How else was she supposed to do business without e-mail?"

He also points to the unusual absence of a permanent inspector general during Clinton's entire 2009-2013 term at the department. He said the 5¹/₂-year vacancy was unprecedented.

"This is a major gap. In fact, it's without precedent," he said. "It's the longest period any department has gone without an IG."

Inspectors general serve an essential and unique role in the federal government by independently investigating agency waste, fraud and abuse. Their oversight also covers violations of communications security procedures.

#3  Clinton said something quite revealing yesterday.

You know, you can’t get information off the classified system in the State Department to put on an unclassified system, no matter what that system is. We were very specific about that. And when you receive information, of course, there has to be some markings, some indication that someone down the chain thought that this was classified and that was not the case.

She intentionally ommitted one key word in her statement - "legally". Mr. Sullivan and Ms. Mills and Abidien if you haven't already you may want to retain legal counsel. You also may want to ask Ms. McDougal about her views on refusing immunity.

Africa Subsaharan
50 Feared Killed in Boko Haram Attack in Nigeria
[AnNahar] Around 50 people were feared killed when Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters armed with guns and explosives attacked a village in northeastern Nigeria, the army and local residents said Sunday.

Suicide bombers also carried out deadly attacks on Sunday in the Lake Chad region, an area frequently targeted by Boko Haram, a local security official said.

Nigeria's army said Boko Haram fighters struck Dalori, some 12 kilometers (seven miles) from the northern city of Maiduguri late Saturday, burning down the village and sending residents fleeing into the bush.

Dalori is located near camps set up for people displaced by the seven-year Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast of Africa's most populous country.

"During the incident lives were lost while some people sustained injuries," army front man Colonel Mustapha Anka said in a statement.

Residents and an aid worker said at least 50 people were killed in the assault which took place after evening prayers in the mostly Muslim region.

Anka said the assailants also tried to penetrate the Dalori camp, but they were repelled by the troops.

Boko Haram has kept up a wave of attacks despite President Muhammadu Buhari declaring late last year that Nigeria had "technically" won the war against the group.

In the Lake Chad region, which borders Nigeria as well as Chad, Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
and Niger, jacket wallahs struck two Chadian villages killing three people, a local security official said.

In the first attack in Guie, a bomber on a cycle of violence went kaboom!, killing one person and injuring 32, while the second attack in the village of Miterine left two dead and 24 maimed, the official said.

In Nigeria, local residents told AFP they fled into the bush when the Boko Haram fighters descended on Dalori.

"We were seated outside our home shortly after the Isha prayer when we heard gunshots and within a few minutes the invaders had arrived," Malam Masa Dalori, a community leader, told AFP.

"They came in Golf saloon cars and began to shoot sporadically. Many people ran to the bush including myself," he said.

"When we came back in the morning the entire community has been razed. At least 50 people were also killed, many others injured," he said.

Mallam Hassan, another villager, gave a similar account.

"I lost an uncle in the attack. But I thank God I escaped with my children," he said.

An aid worker who did not want to be named, said the bodies of the victims had been evacuated to the hospital.

"I think they should be more that 50, while several others were maimed," he said.

Boko Haram fighters have made several attempts to retake Maiduguri -- the birthplace of the jihadist movement -- since they were pushed out three years ago.

Saudi police arrest 9 American 'terror' suspects: report

nine American citizens among 33 "terror" suspects rounded up over the past week, the Saudi Gazette newspaper reported Sunday.

Four Americans were arrested last Monday and five others over the past four days, the paper reported, citing an unidentified source.

Washington, a strong ally of Riyadh, confirmed it was aware of the report but declined to elaborate.

A US State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity

"The Department of State takes its obligation to assist US citizens abroad seriously. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment."

The Saudi Gazette said the arrests also included 14 Saudis, three Yemenis, two Syrians, an Indonesian, a Filipino, an Emirati, a Kazakhstan national and a Paleostinian.

jihadist group, which has claimed several deadly attacks against security forces and Shiites in the kingdom since last year.

On Friday, a jacket wallah attacked a Shiite mosque in Eastern Province, killing four people before worshippers disarmed and tied up his accomplice who had fired on them.

IS, a radical Sunni group that considers Shiites heretics, did not claim that attack.

The Saudi Gazette said some 532 IS suspects accused of plotting attacks in the kingdom are being questioned ahead of their trial at the criminal court in Riyadh.

They are members of six cells arrested in "pre-emptive" raids across the kingdom and include a Saudi woman and a Filipina, the paper said.

Also on Sunday, the interior ministry said they were searching for nine suspects allegedly involved in an August suicide kaboom that targeted a mosque inside a police headquarters, killing 15 people.

IS had claimed the attack in the southern city of Abha.

The ministry said in a statement that three other suspects, including a member of the kingdom's special forces, had been arrested in connection with the Abha mosque bombing.

Bangladesh
'Militant financiers to face music'
The government would soon take legal action against the persons and organizations responsible for funding murderous Moslems in the country, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said yesterday.

"We held a series of meetings on bad boy financing and identified a number of financiers. Soon we will take punitive action against some of them based on the proven allegations," Amu, also the chief of the cabinet committee on law and order, told news hounds.

He said that details of the financiers would be made public later.

The minister also said that they were working to address the legal loopholes so that the detained murderous Moslems cannot get bail easily.

"We will also ensure that the identified criminals do not enjoy unauthorised facilities inside the jails. We have learnt that the local civil surgeons favour the criminals and bring them outside the jail in the name of better treatment. Sometime they suggest that the criminals be sent abroad in parole," Amu added.

The rise in drug trafficking and abuse was also discussed in the meeting attended by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, LGRD Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Senior Home Secretary Dr Mozammel Haque, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque, BGB Director General Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed and high officials of other law enforcement agencies.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed expressed frustration for not achieving the desired goal of containing drugs business.

He said that the law enforcers had seized huge consignments of drugs, especially yaba pills, and jugged

some criminals, but they were yet to bring the situation under control. He suggested that stern action be taken against the godfathers to bring a visible change, meeting sources said.

Later, the meeting decided that necessary action would be taken against the persons responsible for drug smuggling disregarding their identities or political affiliations.

Amu claimed that the government was successful in curbing phensidyle smuggling due to stern action by local administrations, Border Guard Bangladesh and Indian government.

"The Indian government is assisting us regarding the issue. They have shutdown a number of phensidyle factories, set up along the border, as per the list provided by us," the minister added.

The meeting also discussed the issue of blogging platforms and religious fanatics instigating attacks on secular activists.

The participants unanimously agreed that action must be taken for hurting religious sentiment through wrtite-ups and for giving false explanation of Islam to incite militancy.

Amu also said that the law enforcers were on high alert to ensure tight security during the Amar Ekushey book fair.

Syria peace talks hit trouble after Damascus blast kills 60
[REUTERS] Syria's main opposition group met U.N. mediator Staffan de Mistura for the first time on Sunday, but the talks ran straight into trouble after Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bombers killed more than 60 people near the country's holiest Shi'ite shrine.

Representatives of the Saudi-backed Higher Negotiation Committee (HNC) - which includes political and murderous Moslem opponents of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...
- warned they may yet walk away from the Geneva talks unless the suffering of civilians in the five-year conflict is eased.

The head of the Syrian government delegation retorted that the blasts in Damascus, which the Interior Ministry blamed on a boom-mobile and two jacket wallahs, merely confirmed the link between the opposition and terrorism - even though Islamic State has been excluded from the talks.

The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
is aiming for six months of negotiations, first seeking a ceasefire, later working toward a political settlement to the civil war that has also killed over 250,000 people, driven more than 10 million from their homes and drawn in global powers.

Only on Friday, the HNC said it would boycott the process, insisting it wanted an end to air strikes and sieges of Syrian towns before joining the negotiations. This forced de Mistura - who invited the government and opposition umbrella group for "proximity talks", in which he would meet each side in separate rooms - to set the ball rolling with only the government delegation.

Under intense pressure, notably from the United States, the HNC later relented and arrived in Geneva on Saturday. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the group questioned how long the delegation would stay.

"In view of the (Syrian) regime and its allies' insistence in violating the rights of the Syrian people, the presence of the HNC delegation in Geneva would not have any justification and the HNC could pull its negotiating team out," the group's coordinator, Riad Hijab, said in an online statement.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
NAACP leader uses F-word to apologize for using T-word after N-word meeting
[THEAMERICANMIRROR] The NAACP's mission of political correctness and equality careened off the rails this week when a local president complimented a TV news hounds breasts during an interview.

Don Harris, the president of the Maricopa County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, had just finished an event at Tempe Union High School District to discuss an incident at the school in which several girls wore black t-shirts bearing the letters "N-I-*-*-E-R" on them.

The outrage was instantaneous.

"The six students in question pulled ranks to spell out NI**ER on their own, smiling gleefully to pose for an Instagram picture. Their punishment was 5-days suspension," a petition demanding their expulsion reads, EAGnews reports.

"This hurtful use of a racial slur is a complete disregard for the dignity of the black community in Arizona and across the nation and the punishment does not fit the total ignorance and cruelty of the crime."

Harris was on hand to accept apologizes and demand action.

But after the meeting, while participants were speaking with the media, he was caught on camera saying Channel 12 news hound Monique Griego had "nice tits."

"I can't believe that someone in his position would not understand how inappropriate that comment was at the time that he made it," says Ray Stern, a news hound for the Phoenix New Times, who was talking to Griego at the time.

"Here's the leader of the NAACP talking about the N-word and then making this comment, that was more inappropriate than I could even believe," he tells ABC 15.

The news station reports Harris doesn't believe Griego heard him at the time and says he feels like he let down the NAACP. He calls his comment "ugly" and says it just slipped out "guy to guy."

After the reaction, Harris now says he feels "down in the dumps."

The New Times contacted Harris after that incident and reports the NAACP leader said, "I apologize if anyone was offended. I could have said nothing . . . I'm really f*cking sorry."

He argued that the meeting was over when he complimented the news hound's rack and then really blew a gasket (edited for a family audience):

"I'm going to slash my wrists," he spews. "Better yet, I'm going to throw myself out of a f*cking window, except I'm on the first floor . . . I'm one of the best g*dd*mned people in the state."

People criticized him when he first took over the NAACP chief post from the Reverend Oscar Tillman, who retired in 2014 after 22 years in the position, he says, because "I was the wrong flavor.

"They've seen me now, they've seen what I've done. I've given up my law practice. I'm down here six, seven days a week. That's what my commitment is. I support NOW, the women's organization -- g*dd*mn! -- are you sh*tting me? Are you going to write this up?"

Griego didn't comment on the situation but Harris insists he wants to apologize face-to-face. (Of course he does.)

Last June, when white NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal was exposed for pretending to be black, Harris appeared on CNN and claimed "credibility" is one of the most important assets the organization has.

"This is a race-based organization -- the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. And being a race-based organization, when you have a leader in any capacity, you've got to have credibility.

"Once you lose that credibility, the efficacy of your leadership fails," Harris said.

There are now calls for Harris's resignation and at least one minister seeking his ouster blames not Harris's sexism, but his "white privilege."

"Don can be a bit of a character, but I think he's also a well-to-do, older, white male and he exhibited some of the signs of what we've called 'white privilege,' Rev. Jarrett Maupin says, according to KTAR. "He should know better than anyone, as the NAACP, to do what he did."

A 17-year old boy who was kidnapped around three months ago in Ghor province was rescued on Sunday during a special operation by police in Dara-e-Takht area of the province, said Ghor Police Chief.

Hafizullah, who was held by the kidnappers for some 80 days, said that the kidnappers had beaten him and asked for ransom from his family.

Girl fabricated migrant rape claim that outraged Germany
A 13-year-old Russian-German girl has admitted making up a story about being kidnapped and raped by migrants in a case that triggered a furore in Germany and briefly embroiled Berlin police in a spat with the Kremlin, state prosecutors said.

The parents of the teenager, named only as Lisa, reported her missing on 11 January after she failed to appear at school in the Marzahn district of the capital. She reappeared 30 hours later with injuries on her face, and told her parents she had been attacked by men of Middle Eastern or north African appearance. News of the incident spread on social media, sparking outrage among Berlin’s Russian-German community.

But when she was questioned by trained specialists three days later “she immediately admitted that the story of the rape was not true”, said the spokesman for the state prosecutor, Martin Steltner. He said the teenager had been scared of going home after the school had contacted her parents over an incident at school.

Yet the allegations caused uproar in Berlin, particularly after reports of mass sexual assaults allegedly carried out by migrants in Cologne. A Russian-German community group staged a protest, supported by the Pegida-related Bärgida movement. The far-right National Democratic party also demonstrated in Marzahn.

The mood was exacerbated by a report on Russian state TV, in which the girl’s relatives claimed her allegations were not being investigated. The Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, also weighed in to criticise the Berlin authorities. “The news that she disappeared was kept secret for a very long time,” he told a press conference, blaming “political correctness”.

Analysis of the teenager’s mobile phone records showed she had spent the night with a friend, who is not being treated as a suspect.

Her mother told Der Spiegel magazine on Sunday that Lisa was “doing very badly” and was having treatment in a psychiatric ward.

#4  This case isn't as simple as it is made out to be.

The police suspects the girl was the victim of aggravated sexual abuse committed by a 20 y/o Turkish man and a 22 y/o male German national of Turkish origin. The investigation is ongoing.

The police believes that the girl had known these men for months and that any sexual contact was consensual.

However the age of consent in Germany in 14 so any sexual contact between adults and children under 14 is illegal.

On the surface this does look like a Rotherham style 'grooming' operation.

FWO men booked for kidnapping police officials
KARACHI: The Malir Cantonment police on registered a case against a retired army officer affiliated with the Frontier Works Organisation along with some other FWO personnel for kidnapping six policemen and subjecting them to torture before abandoning them in a deserted area off the Superhighway on Saturday.

The step was reportedly taken by the FWO personnel a day after they had been booked by the Gadap police for allegedly thrashing residents of Gadap along with their elected local government representatives as well as the SHO of the Gadap police station on the issue of toll tax collection.

In the early hours of Saturday, retired Col Maqsood-ul-Hasan along with some 30 FWO personnel — 15 personnel in plain clothes and as many others wearing army uniform — kidnapped the six police officials, including Sub-Inspector Mohammed Sachal, who were patrolling M.M. Alam Road, according to the police.

At around 4am, they said, they were abandoned in a deserted area near the under-construction DHA City, off the Superhighway. The victims were subjected to torture and their belongings including mobile phones were taken away, they added. However, the FWO personnel did not take away the official weapons of the police officials.

Malir Cantonment SHO Jafar Baloch said the police registered an FIR (15/2016) against retired Col Maqsood-ul-Hasan, Subedar Rauf and others under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempt to commit qatl-i-amd), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 395 (dacoity) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act on a complaint of the victim, Sub-Inspector Mohammed Sachal.

Just a day ago some FWO personnel had allegedly beaten up residents of Dunba Goth and their elected representatives who later blocked traffic on the Superhighway against the highhandedness of the officials over multiple times collection of toll tax on a daily basis.

The police said the FWO personnel allegedly beat up an elder of the Palari community, Faiz Mohammed Palari, a newly elected chairman of Konkar Union Council Adam Gabol, vice chairman Zulfiqar Palari and six to seven other people. The police said the residents complained that they were being charged toll tax ‘several times’ a day.

The Gadap residents on Friday night staged a protest on the Superhighway near Dunba Goth for around two and a half hours before being dispersed peacefully on the police assurance that legal action would be taken against the FWO personnel.

Malir Cantonment SHO Jafar Baloch said that earlier the FWO personnel had also beaten up Gadap SHO Abdul Khaliq Marwat over the identical issue of toll tax. The Gadap police then registered two separate cases —FIR No 11/2016 under Sections 147, 148, 149, 353, 365 of the PPC and Section 7 of the ATA and another FIR No 12/2016 under Sections 147, 148, 149 and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the PPC on the complaint of a private citizen Faiz Mohammad Palari — against 15 to 20 FWO personnel.

While the personnel were not available for their comment, SHO Baloch was of the opinion that the FWO officials did all this in revenge.

Afghanistan
US says Afghanistan still a dangerous country
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United States along with its international partners has been fighting with terrorism for over a decade now but it still finds Afghanistan a dangerous country.

“At this point it’s clear that it’s a very difficult situation in Afghanistan right now. It’s a dangerous country,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.
Maybe if we were to kill everybody who looks crosswise while wearing a turban and carrying an automatic weapon things would get better. Being a member of the Taliban (Afghan or Pak), the Haqqani Network, IMU, al-Qaeda, or Daesh should be grounds for immediate on the spot execution. Apprehending same should be the start of rounding up all their acquaintances, to include their parents and grandparents, for interrogation.

China claims U.S. destroyer 'driven off'
[FREEBEACON] A U.S. Navy destroyer carried out a second transit near a disputed South China Sea island claimed by China and two other nations, the Pentagon announced Saturday.

China's Defense Ministry denounced the warship transit and said its forces had forced the destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur out of the area.
Did they fly a drone directly overhead?
Pentagon front man Cmdr. Bill Urban said the freedom of navigation operation by the Wilbur took place Saturday near Triton Island in the Paracel Islands chain in the northern part of the sea "to challenge excessive maritime claims."

"This operation challenged attempts by the three claimants, China, Taiwan and Vietnam, to restrict navigation rights and freedoms around the features they claim by policies that require prior permission or notification of transit within territorial seas," Urban said in a statement.

The Wilbur, a guided missile destroyer, passed within 12 nautical miles of Triton Island.

"This operation was about challenging excessive maritime claims that restrict the rights and freedoms of the United States and others, not about territorial claims to land features," he added.

Americans not believed among militants detained by Saudis: U.S. officials
[REUTERS] U.S. officials said on Sunday they did not believe nine U.S. citizens were among 33 suspects detained on terrorism charges in Soddy Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
over the past week, as reported by a Saudi newspaper.

The English-language daily Saudi Gazette, citing an unnamed source, on Sunday reported that four Americans were detained last Monday, followed by another five in the following days. Saudi authorities also detained 14 Saudis, three Yemenis, two Syrians, an Indonesian, a Filipino, a United Arab Emirates citizen, a Paleostinian and a citizen of Kazakhstan, the report said.

Six U.S. officials told Rooters that the U.S. government could not confirm that any Americans were among the 33 suspects detained.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
two officials said U.S. authorities were still checking names against databases. Saudi authorities were also investigating the citizenship of those detained, one of the officials said.

None of the U.S. officials was authorized to speak publicly, and the U.S. embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

a terrorist organization and has detained hundreds of its supporters. The group, which controls territory in Iraq and Syria, has staged a series of attacks in the kingdom.

On Friday an attack at a Shi'ite Muslim mosque in Saudi Arabia's al-Ahsa district in Eastern Province killed four people and injured 18, the latest in a string of attacks claimed by Sunni jihadists that have left over 50 dead in the past year.

The website of the Interior Ministry's myrmidon rehabilitation centre listed four U.S. citizens as having been detained on Jan. 25 and four more over the previous three months. It did not list any more recent detentions.

Bandit killed in a 'gunfight' with RAB in Sundarbans
[Dhaka Tribune] A forest bandit was killed in a "shootout" with a team of Rapid Action Battalion 8 (RAB) members in Chandpai range of the Sundarbans in Bagerhat yesterday morning.
"[Sniff!] Little John! The shutter gun! Quickly, you fool!"
The dear departed was identified as Moshiur, 35, one of the leaders of Moznu Bahini, an infamous gang of bandidos active in the Sundarbans.
"That's when I fell for...
The Leader of the Bahini!"

When contacted, RAB 8 Deputy Commander Major Adnan Kabir said the team was patrolling Chandpai range when they noticed human activity in a particular spot. It later turned out to be a den of bandidos.
"Your report, Sergeant Rafiq?"
"It's a den of bandidos, sir!"
"Ahah! As I suspected!"

When they approached the spot to take a better look, the bandidos, taking notice of the law enforcers, shot up them and triggered the shootout, the RAB official said.
"[KAPOW!] Take that, coppers!"
"After around half an hour of shooting, the bandidos retreated. The RAB team went to the spot and found one of the bandidos' body."
"That was some mighty poor shooting, Sergeant Rafiq!"
"I think I got one, sir!"
"Why so you did! And right behind the ear, too!"

They also recovered 11 locally made and foreign firearms and 450 rounds of bullets.
"It looks like the Mother Lode of Locally and Foreign produced firearms, sir!"
Later, local fishermen identified the bandit as Moshiur, chief of one of the wings of Moznu Bahini, Adnan said.
"Aye, [SPIT!] I recognize er! 'At's Moshiur!"
"Who's he?"
"Chief o' one o' the wings of Moznu Bahini!"
"Izzat so? Why, they're feared throughout the land!"

Hanif warns against questioning martyrs' number
[Dhaka Tribune] Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif yesterday warned people against making controversial claims on the number of 1971 Liberation War deaders, saying such statements would invite legal actions.

"The number of deaders and the father of the nation are settled issues. Legal action will be taken against anyone making derogatory remarks and trying to stir controversy over them," Hanif told the media at the party chief's Dhanmondi office.

BNP Chairpersons the loathesome Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
last month questioned the number of deaders. Following her lead, Standing Committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy dubbed the martyred intellectuals "anti-liberation elements" who "died like fools" and enjoyed pay and perks provided by Pakistain until the end of the war.

At the briefing, organised to protest against the remarks, Hanif alleged that the BNP itself was founded on the spirit of Pakistain and its founder Ziaur Rahman was an agent of that country.

"Zia created the political platform for Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
after independence and BNP chief Khaleda made several Jamaat leaders ministers. This proves that the Zia family believes in the spirit of Pakistain.

"This is why they are repeatedly making the derogatory comments to create controversy about our Liberation War," Hanif added.

Soddy airstrikes kill 32 in Sanaa
The Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes targeting Yemen’s rebels, killing more than 32 people overnight including at least eight civilians in the capital, Sanaa, officials said on Saturday.

The airstrikes appeared to target a rebel camp and factories, the security and medical officials said.

Meanwhile the coalition announced that it had sent support to Aden in the aftermath of the attack carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group on Thursday.

Popular resistance is handling patrols and raids in many parts of the city according to Al Arabiya News channel.

China-Japan-Koreas
Senior politician calls for S. Korea to have nuclear weapons
A former leader of South Korea's ruling party demanded Sunday the government re-introduce tactical nuclear weapons in a bid to counter North Korea's nuclear and missile threats. Chung Mong-joon, who led the Saenuri Party from 2009-2010, stressed the need for the South to declare the end of an inter-Korean denuclearization deal and the withdrawal from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

"(We) should consider and review 'all alternatives' before too late for our survival," he said on his blog.

Chung, once a seven-term lawmaker, has long called for the South to go nuclear amid the North's continued development of its nuclear arsenal.

The U.S. withdrew nuclear weapons from Korea in the early 1990s, when the two Koreas issued a joint declaration to keep the Korean Peninsula nuclear-free. Chung said the denuclearization deal has already become null and void as the North conducted four nuclear tests, most recently on Jan. 6. He stressed that peace can be maintained by countering nuclear threats with nuclear weapons.

"It's a Cold War lesson," he said. "Talks to get rid of nukes are possible only when there is a strong means corresponding to nukes."

Chung said sanctions and pressure on North Korea would have a limited effect and Pyongyang is expected to seek negotiations with Washington, bypassing Seoul, as a nuclear state.

That's a reason why the South needs to withdraw from the NPT, he added, citing the Article X of the treaty. It says, "Each Party shall in exercising its national sovereignty have the right to withdraw from the Treaty if it decides that extraordinary events, related to the subject matter of this Treaty, have jeopardized the supreme interests of its country."

In the wake of the North's latest provocation, calls have grown here for the South to have its own nuclear deterrence. Rep. Won Yoo-cheol, the floor leader of the Saenuri Party, openly said it's time for the South to have nuclear weapons for peace and self-defense.

President Park Geun-hye said she understands such a sentiment but made clear that her administration will stick to the policy of denuclearizing the entire peninsula.

Florida Woman Found Dead In Motel With Two Caged Monkeys
[TIME] A Florida woman was found dead on Friday in a motel room with two caged monkeys and a note, authorities said.
"She's dead, Jim! The monkeys aren't!"
Police said they found Linda Marie Smith, 59, of Arcadia, in a room at the Budget Inn in North Port, Fla. on Friday. An "incoherent" man, whose name has not yet been released, was also in the room and is being questioned by authorities.
"She's dead! [SOB!] [Whimper!] D-d-d-d-dead! [SLAP!]"
It's unclear what was written in the note.
"Milk
Butter
Eggs
Detergent..."

There were also no obvious signs of trauma to Smith's body, North Port police said, and the cause of death is under investigation.
"Doctor Quincy! You're here at last!"
The two Capuchin monkeys are in good health and are now under the care of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, authorities said.

Arabia
Suicide bomber kills 2 at checkpoint in Aden
Two people were killed and five wounded in a suicide car bomb attack on a police checkpoint in Yemen's southern city of Aden on Friday, the latest in a spate of deadly attacks by Daesh (IS) militants.

Police tried to stop the vehicle but it failed to slow down and blew up at the checkpoint in Aden's central Crater commercial neighbourhood, local officials and witnesses said.

Medical sources said there were two dead and that five wounded were taken to the local hospital in Aden. It was unclear whether those figures included the attacker.

Militants claimed responsibility in a statement posted online. They named the attacker as Oweis al-Adani.

On Thursday, the militants carried out a suicide car bombing outside Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's residence in Aden that killed at least six people.

2 Soddy cops killed
Gunmen killed two Saudi policemen on Sunday in an attack in the eastern Qatif region, police said.

"The two officers were escorting a truck used for transporting cash when they came under heavy gunfire from unknown attackers in Sihat in Qatif province", a spokesman said.

The police spokesman, cited by the official SPA news agency, did not say whether the attack was being treated as political or criminal.

On January 4, police gunfire killed a civilian in Awamiya, the birthplace of Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr who had been executed two days earlier on "terrorism" charges.

Two days later, protesting against Nimr's execution torched a bus in the same area.

India-Pakistan
Three men, three questions
[DAWN] YOU gotta hand it to Raheel. He really does do things his way. A general quitting two-thirds of the way in, a full 10 months before retirement? Now that's Naya Pakistain.

And yet, it makes a certain kind of sense.

He may not like it and it may not be deliberate, but the edifice of Raheel's term has been built on being the anti-Kayani
... four star general, current Chief of Army Staff of the Mighty Pak Army. Kayani is the former Director General of ISI...
And everything Kayani did was defined by the extension.

The extension washed away Kayani's first three years, the first two of which are comparable to Raheel's, and it made everything he did or didn't do after irrelevant.

It's easy to forget now, but before Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
there was Rah-e-Rast. And Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
was quickly followed by Rah-e-Nijaat, up in South Wazoo.

It's easy to forget now, but before the dharna there was the Kayani moment. When the PML-N was converging on Islamabad and Iftikhar Chaudhry was still a household name.

Like Raheel at the height of the dharna, Kayani chose not to take over during the long march.

It's easy to forget now, but Kayani followed semi-depoliticisation with a return to core interests -- the army itself, national security and key foreign policies.

But the extension --that's what defined him. And it also constrained him.

Raheel has to know that. Right now, he's got nowhere to go but down. He could win some more victories against terror, but what's more against the same?

Unless he did something big on India, there's not much new he could bring to the game.

And there is the internal dimension.

It's easy to believe that Kayani was sunk by public opinion over the extension. But it really was his own who did him in. The rank and file didn't like the extension and the generals resented it.

Had Raheel stayed on, it would have been a step worse than Kayani. Back then, a short three years ago, the boys were just beginning to digest their counter-insurgency prowess and starting to think about counterterrorism.

Afghanistan
Foreign Militants Fighting Alongside Taliban In Baghlan
The Deputy Chief of Army Staff, General Murad Ali Murad, said that foreign militants, particularly Pakistani rebels, are fighting alongside the Taliban against Afghan security forces in northern Baghlan province.

"The operations will be conducted in different phases. Some 37 militants have been killed and 21 others wounded in the operations. Foreign militants, particularly Pakistani rebels, are among those killed and injured. This shows that foreign rebels are fighting alongside the Taliban militants against Afghan forces," he said.

Gen Murad, who is on a visit to Baghlan province to monitor fighting between Afghan forces and the Taliban, said some 37 militants have been killed and 21 others wounded in the six-day battle.

Terming bad weather as the main hurdle for Afghan forces to make progress, Murad said that security forces are continuing their operations in Baghlan.

"As you know, air and land operations have been underway in Baghlan over the past few days. Today, I have come to the province to monitor the operations. Unfortunately, the weather was bad in the past couple of days and today it is still rainy and snowing; however, security forces continue their offensives," he said.

The Deputy Chief of Army Staff assured people that the operations will continue until the complete elimination of militants.

Baghlan council deems Murad's trip as effective, but said that the pace of the operation is slow.

Besmillah Batash, a member of Baghlan provincial council, said Murad's trip to the province will strengthen Afghan forces. "However, the pace of the offensive in the province is slow. We urge Murad to intensify the operations," he added.

He said that power pylons should be re-installed soon.

Afghan security forces launched large-scale military operations against militants in Dand-e-Ghori and Dand-e-Shahabuddin areas of Baghlan province last week.

The Taliban on the first day of the operation blew up a power pylon in Baghlan province and stopped electricity supply from Tajikistan to Kabul.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Allied aircraft hammers ISIS positions in Hasakah
HASAKAH – Warplanes of the U.S.-led coalition on Sunday hit headquarters of the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah.

The coalition hit ISIS’s security checkpoints and a weapons storage center in the city of Shaddadi –main ISIS bastion in Hasakah. Speaking to ARA News in Shaddadi, media activist Dahham Jabouri said that three ISIS’s checkpoints were bombed under the airstrikes on Sunday.

“At least 14 militants were guarding the checkpoints when several airstrikes by the coalition’s fighter jets hit their posts. All ISIS guards were confirmed to be dead after the raids,” the informed source reported.

Jabouri added that one airstrike hit a small weapons storage center in Shaddadi, causing a huge explosion in the building.

“Explosive devices and ammunitions blew up after the airstrike,” the source told ARA News.

Backed by an air cover from the western coalition, Kurdish-Arab alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has earlier liberated more than 240 towns and villages in Hasakah province, northeast Syria. Shaddadi is deemed one of the last positions for ISIS jihadis in the province.
