#3  What is a "hate crime?" The definition is: A hate crime (also known as a bias-motivated crime) is a prejudice-motivated crime, often violent, which occurs when a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her membership (or perceived membership) in a certain social group.

Made In North Korea: $300 Ski Jackets And More
Made in China? Don't count on it.
Maybe this is part of why China is slapping sanctions on them. It can't help.
Australian sportswear brand Rip Curl made a public apology this week after it emerged that some of its ski gear had been made in one of North Korea's state-owned factories -- some of the world's worst places to work, whose profits help prop up one of its most abusive regimes.

The leisurewear, destined to insulate snowboarding Westerners for $300-plus a pop, was labeled "Made in China" before it made its way to retailers.

The ruse came to light when North Korean tour guides showed a group of tourists around the factory in question, Taedonggang Clothing Factory near Pyongyang. One visitor covertly photographed the faked labels and passed the evidence on to Australia's Fairfax Media.
Somebody's going to be in trouble.
Rip Curl -- which blamed a rogue supplier for outsourcing to "an unauthorized subcontractor" -- says that 4,000 items of clothing stitched by North Koreans, all from its Winter 2015 collection, made it to market before the company took action to tighten up its supply chain. The supplier has since been disciplined and inspections of all factories making Rip Curl garments will be increased, the company said.

But the problem looks to be bigger than a few thousand ski jackets.

Hildebeest attends Paki Waki fund raiser in Beaumont, TX (VIDEO)
Evidently a somewhat clandestine campaign fund raising stop. After landing she was greeted by 6 people and then whisked off to a private fundraiser in West Beaumont, where she was greeted by around 150-200 Muslims, most of whom were of Pakistani origin. The event was held by Pakistani businessman Tahir Javed and Hillary raised approximately $500,000 by pandering to Muslims, making it "one of the top five private fundraiser's Clinton has had in this country." Sheila Jackson Lee was reportedly there as well.

Albany Students Who Claimed to Be Victims of Attack to Face Charges
[ABC] Three university students who claimed they were victims of a racially-motivated attack on a bus in Albany, New York, will now face charges for assault and misleading police about the alleged incident.

The three black, female students at the State University of New York in Albany told authorities they were called racial slurs and "harassed and assaulted" by a group of 10 to 12 white men and women on a city bus just after 1 a.m. on Jan. 30, according to a statement from SUNY Albany President Robert J. Jones released at the time.

All three said they were injured during the alleged attack and one of the students was transported to a local hospital with unidentified injuries, according to NBC affiliate WNYT.

But the University Police Department announced plans to charge the women --Ariel Agudio, 20, Alexis Briggs, 20, and Asha Burwell, 20 -- on Thursday with assaulting a passenger on the bus and falsely reporting an incident.

Police said in a statement that evidence gathered during their three-week investigation showed the students' initial claims "that they were victimized, were false" and that the women themselves allegedly assaulted a 19-year-old female passenger.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian Fugitive Dies at Embassy in Bulgaria
[ABC] Bulgarian authorities are investigating the unexplained death on Friday of a Palestinian, wanted by Israel for a 1986 killing, at the Palestinian Authority's embassy in Sofia.

The embassy identified the dead man as Omar Nayef Zayed, who took refuge in the embassy late last year fearing extradition to Israel.

The Bulgarian prosecutor's office said it was told by the embassy Friday morning of a death resulting from violence on the territory of the embassy. The Palestinian ambassador granted access to the investigators, it said, adding that the cause of death has not been established yet.

Bulgarian Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov said the body was found outside the embassy by a Palestinian embassy staffer as he parked his car. Zayed was still alive when an ambulance arrived, and there were no gunshot wounds. He died at the scene before paramedics were able to take him to a hospital.

Tsatsarov suggested a possible cause of death was that he had fallen from the embassy building. The Palestinian militant group PFLP, however, reported that Zayed was shot in the head.

Zayed, 52, escaped from Israeli custody 25 years ago and has lived in Sofia since 1994. He was convicted of the murder of an Israeli man in Jerusalem's Old City and given a life sentence.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has ordered an investigation committee to go to Bulgaria immediately and probe the circumstances of the killing. Abbas was quoted as condemning the killing.

PFLP said Zayed was a member of their organization, who together with his brother and another Palestinian had stabbed an Israeli in 1986 and had received life sentence.

In 1990, Zayed was hospitalized in Bethlehem following a hunger strike, and later escaped from the hospital, moving to several Arab countries before settling in Bulgaria.

Israel asked the Bulgarian justice minister in 2015 to extradite him and Bulgarian authorities called on him to surrender. He refused and sought refuge in the Palestinian Authority's embassy in Sofia.

His brother, Ahmed Zayed, and the other Palestinian were among those released in a 2011 swap for an Israeli soldier, Gilad Schalit, who had been held by Hamas-allied militants in Gaza for five years.

Hollywood stars urged to reject free Oscar goodie bag trip to Israel
[The Telegraph] Two US groups take out full-page newspaper advert denouncing junket being offered in nominees' gift bag at this year's award ceremony.

The bitterness of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict threatened to mar this year’s Oscars on Wednesday after nominees were urged to reject a £40,000 trip to Israel offered in a gift bag to be handed out at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony.

The free trips - part-funded by the Israeli government - were propelled to centre-stage after the US Campaign to End Israeli Occupation and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) sponsored a full-page advert in the Los Angeles Times headlined "Free Trip to Israel at the expense of Palestinians". The advert declared: "#SkipTheTrip. endorse Israeli apartheid."

Bulldozers to move in on Calais 'Jungle' after court affirms migrant eviction
[The Telegraph] Camp's densely populated southern section to be razed, in move NGOs say will leave thousands with nowhere to go.

A French court on Thursday gave the authorities the green light for the mass eviction of migrants heading for Britain from part of the "Jungle" camp in Calais.

The court overturned a legal challenge by NGOs and ruled that the southern part of the muddy, rat-infested settlement of wooden shacks and tents can be demolished, except for places of worship and a makeshift school.

It will be the most dramatic step France has ever taken to end Calais’ migrants’ problem, which has festered for years, fuelling support for the the far-Right and causing tension with Britain.

The government says the removal of up to 1,000 migrants intent on reaching Britain is a "humanitarian operation" and the cold, squalid camp will be evacuated gradually "without the use of force".

However, the charity Help Refugees said it counted more than 3,400 people in the area to be bulldozed. Save the Children said nearly 400 unaccompanied minors, mostly aged 15 to 17, live there. Under French law, children of 15 and over cannot be forced into care.

The Return of the Nations
The decision by Austria and 9 Balkan countries to unilaterally draft their own border controls as the EU stands "paralyzed" by the refugee crisis triggered a variety of interesting reactions. Francois CrĂŠpeau, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants regrets that "Europe is creating a scary new ‘normal.'".

Borders are back. Belgium became the latest country to suspend the rules of the Schengen accord following restrictions imposed by Germany, France, Sweden and Norway. Hungary will hold a referendum on whether to impose migrant quotas and rejected criticism by the EU as emanating from the "ivory tower of Brussels".

How the world has changed. When president Obama assumed office in 2008, a borderless Europe -- even a world without nuclear weapons -- was seriously on the agenda. Now even Brussels sees the handwriting on the wall. "Europe's cherished free-travel zone will shut down unless Turkey acts to cut the number of migrants heading north through Greece by March 7, European Union officials said on Thursday."

Hungarian Leader Says '€˜People Would Hang Me' If He Accepted Refugees
[Daily Caller] Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes refugees are a severe threat to Europe’s cultural and religious existence.

Hungary and Orban have been upfront with their reluctancy to accept any European Union deals of mandatory refugee quotas. Several European leaders have called out Orban for his lack of cooperation, but he feels he has his people’s backing.

"They would hang me in the nearest light pole here in Budapest if I agreed to something like that," Orban said in an interview Wednesday with German newspaper Bild-Zeitung. "A refugee quota would change Hungary and Europe ethnically, culturally and religiously."

Kerry Sez He Had '€˜No Idea What Kind Of Email' Clinton Used At DoS When He Was Emailing Her
[Daily Caller] Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday said he had "no knowledge what kind of email" Hillary Clinton used when she was at the State Department even though he exchanged messages with her when he was in the U.S. Senate.

The nation’s top diplomat, who testified on the State Department’s budget in front of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, also asserted that the American people "are really getting bored with" questions about the Clinton email scandal.

"You’re fixated on this," Kerry told California Rep. Darrell Issa after a tough line of questioning about Clinton’s email arrangement and his knowledge of it.

Issa, a Republican, pressed Kerry over emails revealed last month that show he sent emails from his personal address to Clinton’s personal address discussing government business. Information in one of those emails has been retroactively classified as "Secret," the second-highest classification level.

Clinton Ad Highlights Her Work for Children, Omits Her Work for Child Rapist
[Free Beacon] Hillary Clinton touted her legal work on behalf of children in the 1970s in a new South Carolina campaign ad, but neglected to mention her successful legal defense of a child rapist in 1975.

As a young lawyer in Arkansas, one of Clinton’s first legal victories was when she secured a lenient plea deal for a 40-year-old man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl. In a bold legal maneuver, Clinton traveled to New York where she persuaded a prominent forensics expert to raise questions about the admissibility of the prosecution’s DNA evidence.

Although Clinton later expressed doubts about her client’s innocence, she managed to plead down the charges and got him off with just a few months in jail.

The Clinton campaign ad highlights her work for the Children’s Defense Fund in South Carolina in the early 1970s, when she helped end policies that allowed incarcerated minors to be held in adult prisons.

"I first met Hillary in the early 1970s when she was here fighting for the rights of children in South Carolina," said one attorney in the video. "She could have gotten a job anywhere out of law school with her credentials, but she has taken the route of public service."

Syrian Jihadis claim several Russian officers Tango Uniform via car bomb
[Jerusalem Post] Dozens of Russian Generals at a military base near the eastern Syrian city of Latakia were killed Sunday afternoon in a deadly car bomb attack committed by two opposition factions, Ahrar al-Sham and Bayan movement, Syrian opposition groups reported on Wednesday.

According to the media office of Ahrar al-Sham, the two factions, in coordination with local jihadists who were located at the Russian military base, decided to bomb the car after they observed a gathering of senior Russian generals at the military base.

Ahrar al-Sham claims that dozens of Russian generals were killed and injured in the explosion. According to the movement, the announcement of the terror attack was delayed until Wednesday to ensure that the jihadists who committed the attack returned safely to opposition territories.

Champ Opposes New Pro-IS Measures, Will Not Follow Provisions to Help Jewish State
[Free Beacon] President Barack Obama has announced in a rare statement that he will not follow newly passed measures aimed at boosting the Israeli economy and strengthening ties between the United States and the Jewish state, according to a statement issued by the president.

Obama stated that while he would sign the new trade resolution, portions of which focus on combatting economic boycotts of Israel, he would not enforce certain pro-Israel provisions that order the United States to stop partnering with countries that support the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, or BDS, which aims to isolate Israel.

The president's rejection of these provisions comes two weeks after the White House issued a separate statement expressing support for every provision of the trade bill except for those focusing on strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship.

Al Sharpton might 'get out of here' if Trump wins
Please oh please oh please . . . .
Rev. Al Sharpton told attendees at a Center for American Progress Action Fund event Thursday he would flee the country if Donald Trump won the election, in order to avoid being deported by Trump.

Sharpton, a Democrat, had positive feedback for many of the Republican presidential candidates until he got to Trump.

"If Donald Trump is the nominee, I'm open to support anyone [else], while I'm also reserving my ticket to get out of here if he wins, only because he'd probably have me deported anyway," Sharpton told attendees, who responded in laughter.

Sharpton, who has participated in various national protests condemning police brutality, did not explain why he thinks Trump would deport him, though both New Yorkers have publicly shared their differences of opinion on various issues.

Napolitano on charges of destruction of CENTCOM intel: 'It is a big deal'
Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano told viewers Thursday on "Special Report with Bret Baier" that charges of personnel at U.S Central Command (CENTCOM) allegedly destroying evidence to minimize negative assessments of the administration’s fight against ISIS is "a big deal and I'm sorry to say I think it's going to go nowhere in the Obama administration."
Whatever gives you that idea? Actually, I would think that 0bean would want to prosecute this to the fullest extent so he can blame CENTCOM for his failures.
At an annual hearing on global threats facing the United States, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said, "We have been made aware that both files and emails have been deleted by personnel at CENTCOM, and we expect that the Department of Defense will provide these and all other relevant documents to the committee."
It would be nice to have backups, hopefully they will make an appearance one day. But doesn't destruction of evidence count heavily against the defendant?
Napolitano said the charges are unlikely to be pursued criminally for political reasons: "if the President's purpose, or the purpose of the people around him, was to shade intelligence with which the American people are familiar, in order to justify its behavior, they are not going to prosecute the people that did the shading."

"But there's only 11 months to go in his term, these are prosecutable events. The willful destruction of information, that the government requires be kept, particularly if they have reason to believe that this stuff is about to be subpoenaed by the Congress or any other subpoenaing authority. But don't look for anything other than political outrage and editorial outrage over this in the next 11 months," Napolitano said.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
The Navy's New AI Missile Sinks Ships the Smart Way
The U.S. Navy has a serious problem. After a decade and a half of focusing on supporting land wars, its basic ability to sink other ships is seriously lacking. To reverse that trend, the sea service wants to buy the new Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM)--and it wants it ASAP.

Admiral Harry Harris, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, wants the Navy to put LRASM into service ASAP to counter surface threats in the Chinese, Russian, and North Korean navies. In comments to the Senate Armed Services Committee, Harris described LRASM as a "great capability we need to bring online fast."

For decades, the U.S. Navy relied upon the Harpoon missile as its primary ship killer. Introduced in 1977, Harpoon could fly to ranges of 67 miles at sea-skimming altitudes, cruising just above the waves to decrease radar detection range. On impact, Harpoon would smash into an enemy ship, detonating a 468-pound high explosive warhead with devastating effect. Harpoon was adapted to ships, aircraft, and submarines, and is used throughout NATO navies and allies such as Japan.

While Harpoon was a great missile for its time, the end of the Cold War and the lack of any competing navies meant the United States had little interest in upgrading or replacing it. A focus on land wars since 9/11 further delayed the upgrades to the Navy's anti-ship firepower. But now it's 2016, and suddenly the People's Liberation Army Navy--the official name of the Chinese Navy--has new ships quickly rolling off the assembly lines. China built 44 destroyers, frigates, and corvettes in just the last 10 years--and that's not counting other surface combatants, an aircraft carrier, submarines, amphibious ships, and the ships of the China Coast Guard.

LRASM, the Navy's next great hope, is basically an anti-ship cruise missile. The ship version is launched from the Mk.41 missile silo, standard on all U.S. Navy destroyers and cruisers. Rising on a pillar of flame and smoke, a rocket booster carries LRASM to a pre-set altitude, whereupon it is ejected and the missile's turbofan engine kicks in. A pair of wings pop out of the missile's flanks to steer it.

LRASM's range is currently classified. It's actually based on an Air Force missile, the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range (JASSM-ER), which has a range of at least 500 miles. It also packs a 1,000 warhead, more than twice that of the Harpoon.

LRASM is first guided by the ship that launched it, then by satellite. The missile is jam-resistant and can carry on even if it loses contact with the Global Positioning System. As part of the targeting system, the missile can be set to fly to a series of waypoints, flying around static threats, land features, and commercial shipping. LRASM can detect threats between waypoints and navigate around them. If it decides it would be entering the engagement range of an enemy ship not on the target list, LRASM will fly around the ship, even skipping waypoints that might lie within enemy range and going on to the next one.

After locating the enemy fleet, it dives to sea-skimming altitude to avoid close-in defenses. LRASM then sizes up the enemy fleet, locates its target, and calculates the desired "mean point of impact"--the exact spot the missile should aim for, taking into account the accuracy of the missile--to ensure the missile does not miss. In most instances that is the exact center of the ship, with the angle of the ship in relation to the missile taken into consideration.

What really makes LRASM stand out is that all of this is completely autonomous. Human beings tell the missile where the enemy fleet is, which ship to strike, and a provide it with a continuous stream of data--the missile takes care of everything else. Using artificial intelligence, the missile takes data and makes decisions all on its own. Using AI and datalinks, multiple LRASMs can launch a coordinated attack on an enemy fleet.

Chinese and Russian missiles use raw speed in an attempt to shorten the defender's reaction time. The 3M54 Klub anti-ship missile, for example, accelerates to Mach 2.9 in the seconds before impact. By comparison, LRASM pokes along at below Mach 1. Its attitude: You don't have to outrun what you are smart enough to avoid.

LRASM will arm destroyers and cruisers of the US Navy, where they will fight for space in the vertical launch silos alongside ESSM, SM-2 and SM-6 surface-to-air missiles, SM-3 ballistic missile interceptors, Tomahawk land attack missiles, and ASROC anti-ship rockets. While that makes fielding the right mix of weapons a little more complicated, it does offer more flexibility in offensive missions, meaning that a destroyer could carry anywhere between 0 and 96 LRASMs.

LRASM will also arm the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which will be able to carry two missiles, and the F-35C Joint Strike Fighter, which will also be able to carry two missiles. The Air Force's B-1 should be able to carry up to 24 LRASMs. JASSM-ER can also be carried on the B-2, B-52, F-15E Strike Eagle and F-16, so it's possible the LRASM could migrate to those platforms also.

The Navy plans to buy the first 24 LRASMs in 2017 towards a total of 464 by 2021, at a cost of roughly half a million dollar apiece. While Navy watchers have bemoaned the lack of a new anti-ship missile for years, it's finally here, and it appears to have been worth the wait. Now all it needs is a good name.

700 militants abandon Jawzjan district with the arrival of Gen. Dostum

General Dostum. I'm thinking of doing my eyebrows like that.
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Around 700 anti-government armed Lions of Islam have reportedly abandoned Qosh Tapa district with the arrival of Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum.
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
Gen. Dostum is accompanied by nearly 10,000 members of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and is currently in Jawzjan to clear the areas under the Taliban control.

Speaking to local residents, Gen. Dostum said he has not visited Jawzjan to wage war and invited the anti-government armed Lions of Islam to join the grinding of the peace processor.

He said war is not a solution and called on anti-government armed Lions of Islam to join grinding of the peace processor and stop further bloodshed.

Meanwhile,
...back at the saw mill, Scarface Al had tied Little Nell to the log and was about to turn on the buzz saw...
he warned the anti-government Lions of Islam for pursuing violence, saying the consequences would be unpleasant if they opted to continue insurgency.

According to the local residents, several villages have been cleared of the Lions of Islam since the operations were launched two days ago and the security forces are currently busy to remove Improvised Explosive Device (IED) left by the Lions of Islam on the roadsides.

This is the third time Gen. Dostum is joining the Afghan forces to clear parts of northern provinces from the Lions of Islam presence.

Gen. Dostum first joined the Afghan cops in the frontline in northern Faryab province earlier in the month of August last where he survived at least two liquidation plots by the anti-government armed murderous Moslem groups while he was leading counter-terrorism operations.

Initially his convoy was ambushed by the Taliban in Lions of Islam in Qaisar district in mid August while another plot to assassinate him was thwarted by the security forces and his special security guards few days later.

French ‘not fighting’ in Libya, says commander
"Couldn't have been our guys. Our guys are somewhere else doing something else entirely."
"Could have been the Ruritanians. They're sometimes mistaken for the French. How spiffy were the uniforms?"
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] French military advisers have been helping coordinate Libyan forces fighting ISIS bandidos murderous Moslems in the eastern city of Benghazi, a senior Libyan military commander said on Thursday.

"The French military group in Benghazi are just military advisers who provide consultations to the Libyan National Army in its battle against terrorism, but they are not fighting with our Libyan forces," special forces commander Wanis Bukhamada told Rooters. There was no immediate French comment.

The French newspaper Le Monde reported on Wednesday that French special forces and intelligence commandos were engaged in "a secret war" against ISIS in anarchy-ridden Libya in conjunction with the United States and Britannia. La Belle France’s Defence Ministry declined comment on the report.

Libyan military forces in Benghazi are under the command of General Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...

in the far west in 2014 and set up its own self-declared government.

Haftar’s forces have been advancing against ISIS in Benghazi, taking back neighborhoods that had been under bully boy control for months.

Western leaders have been looking at ways to stop the spread of ISIS in Libya, where holy warriors have exploited a breakdown of state order since the 2011 uprising that toppled Muammar Qadaffy
...Proof that a madman with money will be politely received for at least 42 years until his people get tired of him and kill him...
to seize control of some towns.

Last Friday a U.S. air strike targeted Islamist holy warriors in the western Libyan city of Sabratha, killing more than 40.

Does rousting some miscreant out of bed in the middle of the night with a gun stuck in his mouth count as fighting???

ISIS arrests two of its own jihadis before escaping to Turkey
[ARA News] The Islamic State (ISIS) radical group arrested on Thursday two of its own jihadis in Syria’s northern Jarablus city before they cross into Turkey.

A Tunisian man and his Chechen wife, who had joined the ISIS ranks in Syria last year, were captured on the Turkish border while trying to desert the group and flee Syria.

Speaking to ARA News in Jarablus, media activist Nassir Taljbini said that the ISIS-led Islamic Police have been observing the movements of the jihadi couple, before arresting them on the Syria-Turkey border on Thursday.

“They were detained while trying to cross into Turkey in a bid to desert the group,” Taljbini reported, quoting an Islamic Police officer.

“The Tunisian jihadi has reportedly married the Chechen woman a few months ago after they met in Raqqa. They were transferred to Jarablus last month in order to serve as guards for an ISIS Emir (prince). There have been suspicions about their movements, but they were eventually arrested before leaving Syria,” the informed source told ARA News.

The jihadi couple has been referred to the Sharia Court for interrogations subsequent to their arrest on Thursday midnight.

The ISIS-led Sharia Court usually orders the beheading of any dissidents on charges of ‘high treason’.

Saudi nuclear physicist ‘part of Iran spy ring’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] More details have emerged on the ongoing trial of 32 people accused of spying for Iran in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, with latest developments being a nuclear physicist allegedly among the accused.

A Saudi defendant on trial at the Criminal Court in Riyadh on Tuesday turned out to be a nuclear physicist, the Saudi Gazette reported.

The spy ring consists of 30 Saudis, an Afghan national who worked as a cook at a rice restaurant and an Iranian who speaks fluent Arabic.

Another Saudi defendant was a senior bank official. But neither his name nor the bank where he worked has been revealed.

On Tuesday, the third day of the court sessions, eight of the defendants stood before the court. They consisted of six Saudis, the Iranian and the Afghan whom the court provided with an interpreter.

The nuclear physicist told the judge that he had worked in China for six years. The Iranian suspect refused a lawyer and said he would defend himself.

The judge, however, advised him to avail of legal counseling provided by the court.

The general attorney, who read out the charges against the defendants, called for capital punishment for 31 defendants with the exception of the Iranian for whom he asked for a harsh and deterrent discretionary punishment.

The judge asked them to prepare their written replies for the next session. The charges also included establishing an espionage cell in favor of Iran, passing classified information to Tehran, traveling to Leb and other areas for meetings with Iranian intelligence elements and plotting to sabotage a number of vital economic and military installations in Saudi Arabia.

‘No Plan B for Syrian Settlement’ -- Russian Foreign Ministry
[ALMANAR.LB] Moscow is not discussing alternative plans for a political settlement in Syria, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has said. The Russian-American peace initiative is going to be formalized through a UN Security Council resolution.

“We’re perplexed by our Western partners, the US included, mentioning the existence of some kind of ‘Plan B,’ Nothing is known on that one, we are considering no alternative plans,” Bognanov told the ‘Middle East: From violence to security’ conference in Moscow.

On February 22, Russian and American presidents simultaneously announced that an agreement on peaceful plan for Syria had been reached, coming into force on February 27, at midnight Damascus time.

Terrorist organizations such as ISIL and Al-Nusra Front (Qaeda branch in the Levant) are not included in the ceasefire and will continue to be attacked until their complete annihilation, the Russian president said in a statement dedicated to the Syrian truce.

attack on a camp of displaced people in the northeastern town of Dikwa, previously targeted by the bully boys, the military said.

"From all indications, the holy warriors aimed at causing havoc at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp located at Dikwa," army front man Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement late Wednesday.

He said security forces "decisively dealt with the terrorists", killing 26 of the bad boy Lions of Islam and seizing weapons and ammunition.

One soldier and a local vigilante assisting the military in the fight against Boko Haram were killed, he said.

Usman said three soldiers and four IDPs were maimed in the encounter, adding that anti-aircraft guns, assault rifles and explosives were among the weaponry recovered.

"The casualties have since been evacuated while the troops have been pursuing those holy warriors that escaped with gunshot wounds," he said.

Boko Haram, which has increasingly used suicide and kabooms as the military pushes them out of territories it once controlled, has previously hit Dikwa, some 90 kilometers (50 miles) from Maiduguri, the birthplace of the sect.

The Special Deterrent Force says in a Facebook post Thursday that it detained the city of Sabratha’s ISIS leader named Mohammed Saad al-Tajouri and killed dozens of ISIS members in a gunbattle. Al-Tajouri was also known as Abu Sulieman.

SDF says he was sent by ISIS leaders in Sirte - a central city controlled by the group - to take charge of Sabratha. The militia says it will release videos of the arrest and al-Tajouri’s purported confessions.

ISIS tried to take over Sabratha on Wednesday by storming the security headquarters and beheading at least 12 of the SDF fighters inside.

House chairman: CENTCOM intelligence files, emails deleted amid probe
[Independent Tribune.com] WASHINGTON (AP) -- Personnel at U.S. Central Command have deleted files and emails amid allegations that intelligence assessments were altered to exaggerate progress against Islamic State militants, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee said Thursday.

"We have been made aware that both files and emails have been deleted by personnel at CENTCOM and we expect that the Department of Defense will provide these and all other relevant documents to the committee," Rep. Devin Nunes said at a hearing on worldwide threats facing the United States. Central Command oversees U.S. military activities in the Middle East.

A whistleblower told the committee that material was deleted, according to a committee staff member who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly disclose the information.

Nunes, R-Calif., also said the Office of the Director of National Intelligence briefed the committee on a survey indicating that more than 40 percent of Central Command analysts believe there are problems with the integrity of the intelligence analyses and process.

With turmoil across the Mideast, Nunes wondered aloud if it was appropriate to wait months for the Defense Department's inspector general to complete an investigation into the allegations before efforts are made to rectify the alleged problems.

"To me, it seems like 40 percent of analysts who are concerned at CENTCOM -- that's just something that can't be ignored," Nunes said.

#12  The dynamic is familiar to many in the community - sea change of political bosses and direction of administration - what they want to know slowly evolves as what is so doesn't fit what they want to be so - more and more they like what some interpretations of the data seems to say - those mid-level careerists (and usually fellow travelers - at least in part) who see that interpretation being rewarded with assignments and promotions begin to tailor their collection requirements and assessments to more easily fit the narrative - and those who disagree feel the slow freeze-out and dead end assignments, and most bail. So soon, there is little institutional memory of the "other truth", but a few hold-outs keep records....voila, here we are. The villains are the political appointees, but the goats will be the careerists who bent to the wind. Rinse and repeat, all the while, the truth and policy that would work sputters or stalls....

What Is THAAD, What Does It Do, and Why Is China Mad About It?
[TheDiplomat] There's a lot more to THAAD's feature set. The "high altitude" part of the acronym isn't there for show: THAAD is able to intercept incoming missiles at endo- and exo-atmospheric altitudes, with a maximum engagement altitude of roughly 93 miles above the earth's surface. The missile itself can travel at speeds over Mach 8, placing it in the "hypersonic" category. Indeed, THAAD manufacturer Lockheed Martin is interested in developing an extended range THAAD variant to counter hypersonic glide vehicles, including China's own WU-14.

Egyptian Christian teens jailed for ‘contempt of Islam’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Egyptian court on Thursday sentenced three Coptic Christian teenagers to five years in jail for contempt of Islam after they appeared in a video reciting Muslim prayers.

A judge in the central Egyptian province of Minya also sent a fourth defendant, aged 15, to a juvenile detention center for an indefinite period.

Defence lawyer Maher Naguib said the four had not intended to insult Islam in the video, but merely to mock the beheadings carried out by ISIS myrmidons.

The video was filmed on a mobile phone in January 2015 when the three teenagers who were sentenced to five years were aged between 15 and 17.

The four had not yet been placed in durance vile

"They have been sentenced for contempt of Islam and inciting sectarian strife," Naguib told AFP.

US Says Agrees with China on UN North Korea Resolution
[ALMANAR.LB] The White House announced on Wednesday that the US and China have agreed on a UN resolution on North Korea's nuclear "provocations."

Diplomats at UN headquarters in New York said Washington and Beijing, Pyongyang's main ally, had agreed on a draft resolution that contained "very tough measures."

The United States circulated the draft text to the other three permanent council members -- Britannia, La Belle France and Russia -- on Wednesday and was set to formally present it to the full 15-member council soon, said the diplomats, who asked not to be named.

Negotiations on the draft resolution began six weeks ago after North Korea carried out its fourth nuclear test on January 6, claiming it had successfully developed a thermonuclear device.

During a meeting at the White House Wednesday, US National Security Advisor Susan Rice and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi agreed "on the importance of a strong and united international response to North Korea's provocations, including through a UN Security Council resolution that goes beyond previous resolutions," said a statement from National Security Council front man Ned Price.

"They agreed that they will not accept North Korea as a nuclear weapons state," added the statement.

US Air Force test-flies intelligence sensor on Global Hawk drone
You find the darnedest things in world news sometimes...
A SYERS-2 intelligence gathering sensor has been successfully flown on a Global Hawk high-altitude long-endurance drone, US defense contractor Northrop Grumman announced in a press release, according to Sputnik.

"With the success of the SYERS-2 flight, Northrop Grumman plans to fly an Optical Bar Camera (OBC) sensor and an MS-177 multi-spectral sensor later in the year," the release stated on Thursday.

The test marked the first time that the long-used US Air Force sensor has been demonstrated on a high-altitude unmanned aircraft, Northrop Grumman pointed out.

"We firmly believe that with the addition of the UPA, Global Hawk is capable of flying any mission the U.S. Air Force requires," Northrop Grumman Vice President Mick Jaggers said in the release.

Existing models of the US Air Force Global Hawk are capable of carrying an enhanced integrated sensor suite, airborne signals intelligence payload and multi-platform radar technology insertion program, the release added.

Prominent Sabratha IS member killed in continuing fighting
Continuing clashes in Sabratha today resulted in the death of a prominent Islamic State (IS) activist in the town, a local official has told the Libya Herald.

Abdullah Al-Dabashi, nicknamed “Hafter”, was killed when local activists attacked the house where he was staying. He is said to have been behind the kidnapping last November of the two Serbian diplomats who were killed in last week’s US air raid against IS.

The clashes followed action by armed residents in a number of Sabratha neighbourhoods, notably Zawagha, Alalgha and Khatatba. Together with security forces, they have been combing them in search of people suspected of being linked to IS.

In Khatabata, the homes of the Falah and Thabet families who have been accused of bringing foreign IS fighters to the town were attacked. Mohamed Falah, a colleague of Dabashi, was killed in those clashes. Moaz Thabet, accused of involvement with IS, was caught and arrested but his brother managed to escape

Although the town centre is now free of IS militants after they attacked the police station two days ago and murdered a number of policemen, there were still clashes this evening in Zawagha district.

Reinforcements from Ajilat, Zintan, Rujban and Zuwara have arrived in Sabratha to help in the fight against IS.

China Warns U.S. After Trump Wins Nevada Caucus
China warned the United States on Wednesday not to adopt punitive currency policies that could disrupt U.S.-China relations after Donald Trump's win in the Nevada caucus.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters in Beijing that "we are following with interest the U.S. presidential election."

Hua was asked about China's response to a possible Trump presidency and his announced plan to punish China for currency manipulation with a tax on Chinese goods.

"Since it belongs to the domestic affair of the U.S., I am not going to make comments on specific remarks by the relevant candidate," she said.

"But I want to stress that China and the U.S., as world's largest developing and developed countries, shoulder major responsibilities in safeguarding world peace, stability and security and driving world development," the spokeswoman added.
You must admit he is pissing off all the right people.

Major success against JeM: DIG
[Daily Excelsior] The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, North Kashmire, Garib Dass, today said that security forces this year achieved major success against Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
(JeM) and would wipe out the traces of the outfit in North Kashmire soon.

While addressing a presser after the arrest of a Pak Fidayeen, the DIG said that the JeM has received set back in Kashmire valley as "we have busted their network recently". "This is third success against JeM. In Handwara we busted their network. The arrest of Fidayeen is a very big success. We will now wipe out the traces of JeM", he added.

US leads 22 strikes against Islamic State in Syria, Iraq
[Ynet] The United States and its allies conducted 22 strikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria on Wednesday, the coalition leading the operations said in a statement on Thursday.

In Syria, there were seven strikes using attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft, the Combined Joint Task Force said.

Near al-Hawl, five of the strikes hit two Islamic State tactical units and destroyed seven Islamic State buildings and a fighting position, it said, while near Albu Kamal, two strikes hit a gas and oil separation plant and a refinery.

In Iraq, 15 strikes were coordinated with the Iraqi government, the statement said.

Nine strikes near Mosul hit two tactical units, an improvised weapons factory, an IED factory, a mortar factory and a car bomb facility. Seven fighting positions were also destroyed.

Other strikes in Iraqi were conducted near al-Qaim, Falluja, Hit, Kisik and other cities, the task force said.

Former Mexican president: 'I'm not going to pay for that 'expletive' wall'
How fortunate that as the former president he will never be required to do so.
How wealthy is he and is he sending any money by wire?
[Washington Examiner] Just 48 hours after Trump told Nevada voters that Mexico is "going to be thrilled to be paying" for the wall he's proposed along the Southern border, Mexico's former president offered a very different take.

"I'm not going to pay for that f--king wall," Vicente Fox told Fusion's Jorge Ramos during an interview Thursday.

"He should pay for it. He's got the money," Fox said of Trump, the billionaire-turned-Republican presidential front-runner.

Upon being asked if he fears Trump will succeed in his bid for the White House and what that would mean for Mexico, Fox said "democracy can not take that."

And if a Mexican is found sending money illegally, sequester the whole amount.

Europe
Greece recalls Vienna ambassador in row over worsening migrant logjam
[REUTERS] Struggling with a growing logjam of refugees, the Lebanon of Europe Greece recalled its ambassador to Vienna on Thursday in protest at moves by Austria and Balkan states to make it harder for migrants colonists to head north across Europe.

The unusual step reflected Greek fury at being excluded from a meeting of Balkan states in Vienna on Wednesday to coordinate border restrictions across the region to limit the flow.

"Greece will not become a Leb or a warehouse of souls," said migration minister Yannis Mouzalas. Leb, a country of 4 million people, is hosting more than 1 million refugees from the civil war in neighbouring Syria.

Greek officials estimated there were 20,000 refugees and migrants colonists trapped in the country as a result of the new restrictions, which began when Austria announced on Feb. 18 it would let in no more than 3,200 people a day and cap daily asylum claims at 80.

European countries are trading bitter recriminations as they wrestle with the continent's worst migration crisis since World War Two. More than a million people arrived in 2015, most fleeing conflict in countries like Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and over 100,000 have reached Greece and Italia already this year.

Greece is likely to face a cost of more than half a billion euros this year, equivalent to about 0.4 percent of economic output, even as it struggles to cope with its worst financial crisis in generations.

"It's a conservative‎ estimate. Costs could go up if there is increased inflow and refugees become logjammed in Greece due to border closures," said a central bank source.

Science
Reactor data hint at existence of fourth neutrino
OK, I admit it; I am a nerd. I have been interested in Sterile neutrinos since MiniBooNE hinted at their existence. But enough of that. The last paragraph got me thinking about Iran and nonproliferation. Directional detectors might be useful for remote detection of banned materials in the proportions necessary for a bomb. Neutrinos travel easily through the entire earth and cannot be shielded.
Scientists see another, more practical, benefit for studying neutrinos. By recording the antineutrino output of nuclear reactors, detectors can discern the relative amounts of plutonium and uranium, the raw materials for making nuclear weapons. Gram for gram, fissioned plutonium and uranium have distinctive fingerprints in both the energy and rate of antineutrinos they produce, says physicist Adam Bernstein of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California. Closeup monitoring of reactors, from a distance of 10 to 500 meters, has already been demonstrated; detectors capable of monitoring weapons activity from several hundred kilometers away is possible but will require additional research and funding, Bernstein says.

#1  1/R^2 bites pretty hard, though. And if you want directional answers, the resolution needs to be very good and the interaction medium density low--which makes the instrumentation more costly and the detectors even bigger.
Posted by: james || 02/26/2016 14:40 Comments || Top||

#2  There could be multiple detectors to allow triangulation. The more detector fluid the greater the chance of detection via a weak force interaction so a cylinder which can be rotated to point in a given direction. Low detection odds except down the length.

Just speculating.

#3  Sh*t. I hope nobody has already built one.

#4  To first order, orientation won't matter.
Posted by: james || 02/26/2016 18:36 Comments || Top||

#5  Why do you say that? Given a cylinder the path along the length would traverse the most fluid and would have the highest probability of triggering a detection event. If the cylinder's width was small when compared to its length a transverse path perpendicular to the length would encounter far less fluid and hence would have a much smaller chance of triggering a detection event. Since you would be getting many events from a pile of refined uranium/plutonium you could orient the cylinder to maximize the number of hits per unit time. The research instruments are spherical/cubist, i.e. symmetrical so they wouldn't have a preferred direction.
Posted by: Sven the pelter || 02/26/2016 19:10 Comments || Top||

#6  The cross section sideways is greater, though. The integral of the area by depth is the volume.

You'd be too far away for the difference in flux between the near and far sides to matter.

You _can_ get instrumentation effects. The readout might not be so good evaluating paths on tracks that come sideways, for example.
Posted by: james || 02/26/2016 19:26 Comments || Top||

#7  More flux perpendicular to the length but lower detection probability per particle. I wonder if there is a minimum fluid thickness required to get a detection event?

#8  Daya Bay uses 20 ton detectors, about 2km from the reactors. If you're 200km away, make that 200,000 ton to get the same rate they do, which http://www.scholarpedia.org/article/The_Daya_Bay_Experiment says is of order 100,000/year. I don't have a good handle on how to use the spectrum to tell banned from OK materials, but I'd hope (WAG) that would be more than enough to distinguish.

Greece ‘won’t be Lebanon of Europe’: minister
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Greece on Thursday said it would not be left by the rest of the EU to become the "Leb of Europe" by hosting millions of migrants colonists and refugees.
Greece won't be Lebanon? It's an easy mistake to make...
Speaking ahead of a crucial meeting in Brussels, Greek migration minister Yannis Mouzalas criticized other countries for "unilateral" actions that affect Greece.

"A very large number (of participants) here will attempt to discuss how to address a humanitarian crisis in Greece that they themselves intend to create," he told news hounds.

"Greece will not accept unilateral actions. Greece can also carry out unilateral actions. Greece will not accept becoming Europe’s Leb, a warehouse of souls, even if this were to be done with major (EU) funding."

Four million refugees have fled Syria for the relative safety of neighboring countries, according to the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
, with more than one million in Leb.

Greece is the main entry point for migrants colonists to the EU, with most of them coming over the Aegean Sea to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
via the Greek islands.

Athens faces growing pressure to stop "waving through" migrants colonists to the rest of Europe, but it has criticised the response of the EU.

Bangladesh
AVIJIT MURDER: Police claim three killers identified
[Dhaka Tribune] Investigators claim to have identified three assailants who took part in the killing of writer-blogger Avijit Roy on the Dhaka University campus a year ago.

So far, eight persons have been locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
over the murder. Among them, Sherlocks said they had found no evidence against one while another had confessed to instigating killers.

After the recent arrest of two suspected members of banned Death Eater outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team from Badda, Sherlocks claimed they had gleaned important information from them about Avijit’s murder and hoped to crack the case soon.

Avijit, an engineer by profession and administrator of Mukto-mona blog, was an atheist who advocated secularism. He had received death threats for his writings. Two of his titles were published in last year’s book fair.

Machete-wielding assailants attacked Avijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya, both US citizens of Bangladesh origin, on February 26 last year when they were returning from the book fair. Avijit died in the attack while Bonya sustained several head wounds and her left thumb was sliced off.

Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam yesterday said they had found evidence of six people’s involvement in the killing and that banned Death Eater outfit Ansarullah was behind the attack.

"We have identified three assailants and have their permanent address. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
we could not arrest them as they are on the run," he said.

Investigators sent DNA samples collected from the spot and the arrestees to the FBI who have completed analysing them and would soon send a report. Monirul said the case was at a stage where they expected a positive result soon.

He claimed that they had kept in touch with Avijit’s wife Bonya through the FBI. In an interview with Rooters last May, Bonya lashed out at Bangladesh government for not responding more aggressively to Avijit’s slaying. "This was well planned, choreographed -- a global act of terrorism," she told Rooters adding that no one from the government had reached out to her until then.

Avijit’s father Ajoy Roy was less than impressed and expressed frustration at the slow progress of investigation. He said since his son’s murder, the Sherlocks had been telling him that they were waiting for the FBI report and would solve the case soon.

"But the time never came in last one year," Ajoy Roy said.

Saudi Plots to Burn Lebanon...Who Defeats Israel Can Crush Royal Tyranny
Another incoherent diatribe probably translated from Arabic, where it didn't make any more sense than it does here. Included because articles by Mohammed Salami are to be treasured.
[ALMANAR.LB] by Mohammed Salami
So has victorious Leb to apologize to Al Saud dynasty which has been defeated in all its regional battles.

The horrible political irony lies in the fact that after Saudi has announced the halt of the military aids program to the Lebanese army and security forces, Leb is supposed to send a governmental delegation to pat the Saudi king's head in order to satisfy his tyrannical lust.

The Saudi ambassador to Beirut has announced that Leb has to reconsider its stances in the recent Arab and Islamic summits that did not meet KSA's desire to condemn Hezbollah as a terrorist group.

It is worth to mention that the Lebanese Foreign Minister Jibran Bassil delivered at the summits, the stances which protect the national unity and preserve the country's regional role. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
the Saudis wanted Leb to be a mere servant to their colonial dreams in the region.

In this context, a number of Lebanese political factions mobilized their forces to visit the Saudi embassy in Leb in order to express their blind loyalty to the terrorist Saudi dynasty which formed, funded and sponsored the bad boy groups that carried out the suicide kabooms in several area and targeted the Lebanese army.

Saudi responded by banning its citizens from visiting Leb as its travel alert move was followed by several gulf countries, what pushed the observers to expect milestone developments in this concern.

The Saudi stance took the Arab consensus as a pretext to demand the Lebanese support to their stances despite the fact that the Arabs have not taken any decision unanimously, even over the lost Paleostine.

The Saudis started blackmailing Leb by halting the financial aids to the Lebanese military institutions and threatening of the Lebanese who work in KSA.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
4 dead in Wichita, KS shooting
Video at the link shows the shooter firing an AK in an open field on full auto. He didn't buy it over the counter and he didn't get it in a kit.
[KWCH] Sheriff T. Walton said four people, including the shooter, were killed at the Hesston company Thursday afternoon. Fourteen other people were hurt. Six people are being treated at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita - two critical, four stable. Four people are being treated at Wesley Medical Center - three critical, one in surgery. Four others are being treated at Newton Medical Center.

Walton said the incident started at 5 p.m. at 12th and Meridian at Newton. Two vehicles were shot at, one driver was hit. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. The second driver was not shot. The shooter was shooting from inside a separate vehicle.

Walton said the shooter then traveled down Meridian to Hwy 81, where he shot another person in the leg. At that location, there was a report of a stolen vehicle.

Walton said the shooter took the vehicle and went to Excel Industries. Once he got there, he shot one person in the parking lot and then went inside the building where he shot 15 more people. Four people were killed including the shooter.

Walton said the first officer on the scene, shot and killed the shooter.

"There was particular law enforcement here in Hesston that responded right away. And even though he took fire, he went inside of that place and saved multiple, multple lives. A hero as far as I'm concerned."

Walton said fifteen KBI agents will now do an investigation inside Excel. He said there are a number of crime scenes.

He said the shooter used a long gun, something like an assault rifle - he also had a pistol on him.

"We always talk about, 'it can't happen here, and everybody says, 'it can't happen here.' But it's all those places that it happens at and here we are. It happened here... "This is a fairly peaceful community and to have something like this is tragic."

Excel will remain closed until law enforcement complete their investigation on the crime scene.
The Times of Israel adds:
The gunman was an employee at Excel Industries.

Local media identified the gunman as Cedric Ford, who worked as a painter at the factory and had posted a picture of himself on Facebook with an assault rifle.

Local media said Ford had an extensive criminal record, including a history of prowling, loitering and illegal weapons possession.

Several employees at the plant reportedly told the media they believed that the shooter had emotional and mental problems.

Kuwait
Iran and its affiliates, primarily the terrorist group Hezbollah, have a history of targeting passenger planes. On April 29, 1986, Kuwait said it had thwarted an attempt by a group of 12 people to hijack a Kuwaiti Airways plane and take it to an unknown location in East Asia.

Iran and its affiliates, primarily the terrorist group Hezbollah, have a history of targeting passenger planes.

Turki Al-Dakhil
The investigation accused Imad Mughniyeh, then-Hezbollah’s leader of security apparatuses. In 1988, he hijacked the Kuwaiti Al-Jaberiya jet and forced it to alter its route toward Mashhad in Iran and then to Larnaca in Cyprus. Kuwaiti passengers Abdullah Khalidi and Khaled Ayoub were rubbed out by Mughniyeh and dumped off the plane.

Back then, Mughniyeh - upon direct orders from Hezbollah leaders - demanded the release of 17 prisoners held by Kuwait for their role in the 1983 bombings that in one day targeted the country’s major power plant, international airport, the American and French embassies, a petrochemical plant and a residential compound. Iran, Hezbollah and hijacked planes are a never-ending story of criminality that knows no limits or mercy

Arabia
Evidence of Hezbollah coaching Houthis, planning attacks on Riyadh
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] New video footage shows the Lebanese-based Shiite group Hezbollah being involved with terrorist activities in both Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
The Government in Yemen confirmed that Hezbollah is directly caught up with the war tearing through the country between pro-legitimacy forces and krazed killers. The insurgency is being led by Houthis and militias affiliated with the ousted former President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
.

The video recording broadcasted exhibited a Hezbollah commander referred to as "Abu-Saleh," who is responsible for training Houthi krazed killers. Training revolved around operations that will take place in Saudi Arabia in the future. The Hezbollah commander dubbed them: operations "impair Saudi Arabia".

Abu-Saleh reveals plans for assassinating high-up figureheads in Riyadh, the liquidations would be carried out by terrorist attacks and bombings. When the Hezbollah commander describes the process, a Yemeni recruit answers saying that it conveys suicide-attacks, however, the commander rephrased the explanation saying that it was "martyrdom".

Throughout the leaked video Abu-Saleh hints that there are terrorist attacks scheme planned for Saudi Arabia, yet the latter refuses to reveal their details before the Yemeni recruits, for being confidential.

Britain
Three British-Pakistani brothers found guilty of ‘exploiting’ girls in UK
[NATION.PK] Three brothers and their uncle were found guilty Wednesday of sexually exploiting maidens of tender years in northern England, in the latest of a string of grooming trials that have highlighted failings by police and social workers.
Not failings so much as connivance, but do go on, O Pakistani journalist.
Brothers Arshid and Basharat Hussain were found guilty of multiple rapes and indecent assaults in the town of Rotherham in Yorkshire between 1987 and 2003, against 15 victims as young as 11.

Their younger brother, Bannaras Hussain, had previously admitted 10 similar charges, while their uncle Qurban Ali was found guilty of conspiracy to rape.

Two women, Shelley Davies and Karen MacGregor, were convicted of conspiracy to procure hookers and false imprisonment.

The case represents the first successful prosecution of a gang in Rotherham since a 2014 report warned of as many as 1,400 victims of child sexual exploitation in the town.

Their trial heard how vulnerable girls, many from troubled backgrounds or living in care, were groomed by the gang before being beaten, raped and passed around to have sex with other men.

"Arshid Hussain in particular played a key role. He was domineering and in some instances brutal in his treatment of girls," said Peter Mann of the Crown Prosecution Service.

"He used them for his own gratification, then often hookerd them or passed them on to his brothers or associates."

Mann said the girls had endured "unthinkable" suffering but showed "extraordinary courage" in giving evidence.

It is only the latest in a series of grooming trials across English towns, often involving gangs of south Asian origin
...almost all being Pakistani immigrants or of Pakistani descent, as I recall, and so of particular interest to the readers of a Pakistani newspaper...
and highlighting major failings in child protection.
...not to mention the predatory nature of the south Asian predators and their mainly south Asian predatory, pedophilic clientele.
The Rotherham report condemned the failure of police and social workers to halt the abuse, warning that in some cases officials turned a blind eye to avoid appearing racist.
And in other cases?
South Yorkshire Police, which brought the latest case, is under investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission amid allegations that officers not only ignored but may even have participated in the abuse.
How many of those participating officers are also south Asian?
Mohammed Shafiq of the Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim commentator who has previously spoken out on the issue, said Britannia’s Pak communities must wake up to the problem of grooming.

"The sad reality is that in the case of on-street gang grooming there is an over representation of Pak men," he wrote in a statement.

"Until British Paks accept that this is a problem for our community we will not be able to eradicate this evil. Burying our head in the sand as the usual response is not good enough."
A brave man.
The six members of the gang will be sentenced on Friday.

Rooshun T-90 in Syria disabled with TOW ATGM hit
Russian military journalist said that the Shtora system may have been turned off at the time of the hit. Another commenter said that the crew should have left a 125mm round chambered in the main gun, as the Shtora system will automatically turn the turret and return fire in the direction of the last laser detected once the vehicle has been lased.

#6  couple of comments-
1.) looks like a tow 2A was used (direct attack). It is interesting that they are not getting the 2B. A top attack would be interesting.
2.) If the missile made it (can't tell from image) the hit did not necessarily cause a brew up. The fact that the gunner was able to bail out makes me think that there was a hit, but not not through the ammo rack. Lucky him.
3.)It is not unheard of for tanks to be placed in static defense positions and manned only by a gunner (T-90 has an auto-loader). This is common practice in MME. Would explain lack of other crew bailing out.
4.) I am aware of penetrating hits on armored vehicles that caused only minor damage. Without more information, i am wildly speculating that this track will most likely be back in service soon.

Terror Networks
ISIS threatens Facebook & Twitter CEOs over blocked accounts
[NATION.PK] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
has released a disturbing video threatening the creator of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and the CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey. The footage show a series of chilling messages and a photograph of the pair which is subsequently riddled with fake bullet holes.

The Islamist terrorist group made a 25-minute propaganda video entitled, "Flames of The Supporters," in which they said they will retaliate if they are forced off the social network sites.

Facebook and Twitter have been launching a campaign to stop Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and its supporters from using the platforms to spread their propaganda and attract new followers.

The jihadists say they are hitting back and have managed to hack and take control of 10,000 Facebook accounts, 150 Facebook groups and 5,000 Twitter profiles. The terrorist group says it will retaliate if any attempts are made to stop them using the sites.

IS also mocked Twitter and Facebook in its attempts to block accounts they used, adding that they would make 10 new accounts for each one blocked. The video was first published by the Vocativ website, whose analysts found the video on the messaging site Telegram, which is often used by IS jihadists.

There was also a photograph of Zuckerberg and Dorsey, whose faces were covered in mock bullet holes.

A spokesperson for Twitter told the Guardian that the company would not be releasing a response because they receive such threats on a regular basis.

"It just happens all the time," the spokesperson said.

"All the time? With Dorsey’s face?"

"All the time," the spokesperson confirmed.

"Isn’t that a little scary?"

"Welcome to our everyday life."

Twitter announced in February that it had suspended more than 125,000 accounts for threatening or promoting murderous Moslems acts, mainly related to IS bad boys, in the last eight months.

"Like most people around the world, we are horrified by the atrocities perpetrated by bully boy groups. We condemn the use of Twitter to promote terrorism," Twitter said in a statement on February 5. "As the nature of the terrorist threat has changes, so has our ongoing work in this area."

In March, IS apparently declared war on Twitter and issued a threat against Dorsey and its employees after the social platform started blocking jihadist accounts

Australia Warns of ’Advanced’ Terror Threat in Indonesia
[ALMANAR.LB] Australia on Thursday warned that snuffies might be in the "advanced stages of preparing attacks" in Indonesia and advised travelers to take precautions, just days after a similar warning about neighboring Malaysia.

"Recent indications suggest that snuffies may be in the advanced stages of preparing attacks in Indonesia," the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said in an updated travel advisory.

"We advise you to exercise a high degree of caution in Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bali and Lombok, due to the high threat of terrorist attack."

The advisory did not raise the overall threat level, which is at "exercise a high degree of caution", and noted that the department continued to "receive information that indicates that snuffies may be planning attacks in Indonesia, which could take place anywhere at any time".

It said travelers should be particularly careful when in places that have low levels of security and while at possible known terrorist targets, listing previous attack sites such as nightclubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, international hotels, airports and places of worship.

"The Indonesian government has recently increased security across Indonesia, which underscores the ongoing high threat of a terrorist attack," it added.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
a front man for Indonesia's national police said authorities had not seen any indications of an imminent attack.

"We have not found anything worrying," front man Agus Rianto told AFP. "At the moment, Indonesia is safe."

Pakistan Starts ’Last Phase’ of anti-Militants Offensive
[ALMANAR.LB] Pakistain's powerful military chief has ordered his troops to begin the "last phase" of a bloody operation targeting forces of Evil in the restive northwest along the Afghan border, the army said.
The Haqqani Network seems to have come through the experience intact. I wonder why that is.
General Raheel Sharif
..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
gave the order during a visit to forward troops carrying out the offensive in North Wazoo, in which the army says it has killed thousands of forces of Evil since it began in June, 2014.

"General Raheel Sharif directed to commence forthwith the last phase of operation in North Waziristan which aims at clearing the remnants of snuffies from their hideouts in deeply forested ravines, isolate them and indiscriminately sever their links with their abettors anywhere across the country," the army said in a statement late Wednesday.

A later tweet from a military front man said the operation "has begun", though the army offered no further details.

The army launched Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
under US pressure in 2014 in a bid to wipe out bad boy bases in the North Waziristan tribal area and bring an end to the near decade-long insurgency that has cost Pakistain thousands of lives.

The operation was intensified after the Taliban massacred more than 150 people, the majority of them children, at a school in the northwestern city of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

Arabia
Lebanon must act on Hezbollah in Yemen, says Saudi
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Saudi military front man urged Leb on Wednesday to stop the Shiite Lebanese movement Hezbollah from exporting its "mercenaries" to Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Syria, Al Arabiya News Channel reported.

Brigadier General Ahmed al-Asir
...Leb Salafist holy man with the usual grouch against Shiites. Currently on the run, he seems intent on reigniting the Leb civil war...
i said participation of some Iranian and Hezbollah "mercenaries," who were killed in Yemen, violated the U.N. resolution 2216, which demanded an end to violence in the southern Arabian Peninsula country.

Asiri made his statements after the internationally recognized Yemeni government on Wednesday said it has evidence that the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah is backing the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militia group.

The government, which is currently working with the Saudi-led Arab coalition and Popular Resistance units to dislodge Houthi turbans from the capital and other areas, said that Hezbollah military trainers planned ‘hostile’ acts implemented by Houthis against Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
The government has evidence of "Hezbollah’s involvement in the Houthi war against the Yemeni people," its front man Rajih Badi said in a statement published by the official sabanew.net website.

Hezbollah turbans are present in "the battlefields along the border with Saudi Arabia," where attacks from Yemen have killed about 90 civilians and soldiers in the kingdom since March last year, said Badi.

Hezbollah is taking part in the Yemeni war on the ground by training the Shiite Houthis and orchestrating attacks against Saudi Arabia, said Badi, urging "international legal measures" against the movement.

"This evidence is documented and Hezbollah cannot deny its role in the destruction it is contributing to through the clear moral and logistic support" for the rebels, said Badi.

The Yemeni government added that it will file a complaint at the UN Security Council against what it called Hezbollah’s ‘terrorist’ acts.

Both Hezbollah and the Houthis are backed by Iran.

The Yemeni government statement comes after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait warned or banned their citizens against travel to Leb.

Saudi cut its $4 billion military aid to Leb after Beirut’s failure to back Saudi in its spat with Shiite powerhouse Iran, the leading backer of Hezbollah.

Saudi is currently leading a coalition against the Houthis, who attempted a coup against the internationally recognized Yemeni government of Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi.

The Grand Turk
Davutoglu: Syria Truce ’not Binding’ for Turkey if Security Threatened
[ALMANAR.LB] Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Thursday said a ceasefire agreed between Syria's warring parties was only valid inside Syria and was "not binding" for Turkey if its national security was threatened.

"It must be known that the ceasefire is valid in Syria," Davutoglu said in televised remarks in the central Anatolian province of Konya.

"When it is a question of Turkey's security, then the ceasefire is not binding for us," he added.

Turkey on successive days last week targeted Kurdish fighters inside Syria with artillery barrages, claiming that the army was responding to incoming fire, and had repeatedly reserved the right to open fire again.

Russia and the United States have set a deadline of midnight Damascus time (22:00 GMT) Friday for the "cessation of hostilities" between the Syrian army and the armed groups.

The deal, which marks the biggest diplomatic push yet to help end the five-year global war on Syria, excludes the so-called 'Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant' (ISIL) takfiri group and other terrorist organizations.

Davutoglu said Turkey would closely monitor how the ceasefire would be implemented, adding: "We support the ceasefire under any circumstances."

However, he noted on Thursday that if Turkey's security was concerned, "we do not get permission from anyone, we do not ask anyone but we do what's required."

"When it's a question of the security measures Turkey will take, the only place to have a say is Ankara," the premier said.

Turkey has demanded that the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its People's Protection Units (YPG) forces should remain outside the scope of the truce.

"To us, YPG is a terrorist organization the same as Daesh (ISIL) and (Al-Qaeda affiliate) Al-Nusra," Davutoglu said.

LeT, JeM get candid support from Pak: Army chief
[Daily Excelsior] Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag today slammed Pakistain for giving "candid support" to terror groups like JeM and LeT as he called on the international community to join hands in combating the menace.

Days after suspected LeT operatives struck in Pampore in Jammu and Kashmire, Suhag hit out at Pakistain, saying, "Terrorist groups like LeT and JeM get candid support from across our western borders."

The attack at Pampore left three Army personnel dead, including two Captains of the Special Forces. Two CRPF personnel, too, were killed by three heavily armed "foreign" holy warriors who were rubbed out after a fierce 48-hour-long shootout.

At a seminar organised by Army think tank CLAWS, Suhag also said that the spreading influence of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. , in particular through social and other forms of media, has thrown up challenges of global and regional security.

"What is worrying is that these groups can no longer be dismissed as regional manifestations of violence," he said.

Noting that such jihadist outfits take advantage of the international connected systems of finance, commerce and transit to stay flexible and reach any part of the globe, Suhag said it was "necessary for international community to fight this menace as one by sharing of intel and adoption of training techniques from each other".

He added that the 9/11, 26/11 and recent Gay Paree attacks have changed the perception among world leaders regarding the threat from terrorism.

The Army chief said, "We need to address not only the methods but also the factors that contribute to the spread of terrorism.

"The main threat comes from fundamental ideology and twisted interpretations which are promoting radical thinking."

BJP leader and spokesperson M J Akbar, who also spoke at the event, termed parts of Pakistain as a "sanctuary for jihadis".

Afghanistan
Hekmatyar’s Hezb-e-Islami party says will consider if invited to peace talks
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Hezb-e-Islami party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
officials have said they will consider an invitation to the proposed peace talks likely to take place in the first week of March.

A big shot of the party based in Pakistain has said they have not received any formal invitation for the direct talks so far, a local newspaper reported.

The big shot, Dr. Ghairat Baheer, said Hezb-e-Islami party gives importance to the statements delivered by President Ghani and Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbni, mentioning Hezb-e-Islami and showing interest to include the party in peace talks.

He said consultation at the party level is underway and a final decision will be made once a formal invitation has been received.

Pakistain has offered to host the first round of direct talks between the Afghan government and Taliban representatives following the conclusion of the fourth round of Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) meeting on Tuesday.

"The QCG member states invite all Taliban and other groups to participate through their authorized representatives in the first round of direct peace talks with the Afghan government expected to take place by the first week of March 2016," according to a joint statement by QCG.

The statement further added that the fifth round of the QCG meeting will take place in Islamabad immediately after the first round of direct peace talks.

New GPS 3 ground system is the Pentagon's "most troubled" program
The USAF was told that the proposed JPL Kalman filter wouldn't hack it. So they went into this with eyes wide open.

Changing requirements? I would wager that OCX can't match the accuracy of the existing GPS system. And likely never will.

The good news is that LMCO should be able to update the existing system to handle the new GPS III satellite.

Islamic State militants take over Syrian military base
I got twenny bux that sez the troops ISIS used to take Khanasser came from Iraq. Anybody want part of that action?
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) seized control of a key military base for the Syrian army in the northern Aleppo province on Thursday.

Subsequent to clashes with the Syrian regime’s army troops in the southern countryside of Aleppo, ISIS militants have reportedly captured the Air Defense (Al-Difaa’ Al-Jawi) base near the Khanasser town.

This comes just two days after ISIS fighters took over the strategic Khanasser-Ithrayya road, cutting off a main supply line for the Syrian regime’s troops between Hama and Aleppo.

“The Khnasser Ithrayya route was a main supply line for the regime’s troops fighting in Aleppo. The army relied on this line to receive military reinforcements from Hama to support its forces inside Aleppo,” media activist Abdulrahman Taha told ARA News.

After taking over the road and main towns in its surroundings, ISIS fighters had imposed a siege on the regime’s troops in the Air Defense base. The siege led to sporadic clashes and eventually resulted in the withdrawal of the pro-Assad forces from the base on Thursday evening.

“At least 15 Syrian army soldiers were killed in the clashes, beside the destruction of two tanks at the hands of ISIS fighters,” local media activist Muhannad al-Jassim told ARA News, adding that ISIS militants have seized a large deal of ammunition and heavy weapons after taking over the Air Defense base in southern Aleppo.

In the meantime, the Syrian army confirmed the evacuation of the military base, calling it a “tactical withdrawal”.

Syrian Army Regains Khanasser, Inflicts Losses upon ISIL Terrorists

[ALMANAR.LB] Al-Manar correspondent reported that the Syrian army regained Moghirat town in north of Khanasser and a number of adjacent hills.

The Syrian army on Thursday took control of the strategic town of Khanasser in Aleppo southeastern countryside, field sources told al-Manar.

The sources said that the control of Khanasser comes following heavy festivities between the Syrian armed forces and Takfiri

The Syrian army inflicted heavy losses upon the terrorists, the sources said, noting that many of them were killed an injured.

The Syrian army and allies also controlled Shlala village in Aleppo eastern countryside.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Syrian army seized Rasm al-Nafel town, near Khanasser.

Khanasser is considered a bastion for ISIL Takfiris, because the town is the supply line that links Aleppo to its southern countryside.

China-Japan-Koreas
U.N. sanctions to require mandatory inspection of all cargo to and from N. Korea
A proposed package of new U.N. sanctions would require mandatory inspection of all cargo going in and out of North Korea and ban its exports of mineral resources, a key source of hard currency for Pyongyang, a U.S. envoy said Thursday.
Now that's an interesting move. Certainly didn't expect that from the Obama administration at this date...
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power unveiled the unprecedented measures as she outlined key points of the draft U.N. Security Council resolution expanding sanctions on North Korea for conducting nuclear and missile tests in violation of U.N. bans. The U.S. and China reached a final agreement on the draft Wednesday after more than a month of negotiations.

"The United States tabled a draft U.N. Security Council resolution that, if adopted, would break new ground and represent the strongest set of sanctions imposed by the Security Council in more than two decades," Power told reporters.

"For the first time in history, all cargo going in and out of the DPRK would be subjected to mandatory inspection. For the first time, all small arms and other conventional weapons would be prohibited from being sold to the DPRK," she said.
Definitely twitches the surprise-meter. Inspecting ships and aircraft? If we have the manpower and the will to do it it'll force the Norks to respond: either with war or by coming (spluttering) to the negotiations table.
In addition, the resolution would impose financial sanctions targeting North Korean banks and assets, ban aviation and rocket fuel supplies to the North, and ban the North's exports of coal, iron, gold, titanium and rare earth minerals, she said.
That's more of the usual. Those sanctions are leaky -- worth doing but we shouldn't expect much.
The proposed sanctions would also ground North Korean flights suspected of carrying contraband, and suspicious vessels carrying illicit items would be denied access to ports, Power said.

"These sanctions, if adopted, would send an unambiguous and unyielding message to the DPRK's regime the world will not accept your proliferation. There will be consequences for your actions and we will work relentlessly and collectively to stop your nuclear program," Power told reporters.

"If adopted and implemented fully, these sanctions would constitute a major increase in pressure compared to the council's previous actions on the DPRK. They have a broader scope and target more of the DPRK's pressure points," she said.

According to media reports, the draft resolution also calls for blacklisting 17 North Korean individuals and 12 entities, requiring states to expel North Korean diplomats involved in illicit activities and ban the North's imports of luxury items.
All of that won't accomplish much...
Power spoke after she formally presented the draft resolution at a Security Council meeting. Unless objections are raised after a review by the council members, the council can formally adopt it, possibly as early as Friday and by Monday at the latest.

Power said that the new sanctions would make it much harder for the North to raise the funds, import the technology, and acquire the know-how to advance its illicit nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

"The DPRK has taken progressive steps toward its declared goal of developing nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles," she said. "The international community cannot allow the DPRK regime to achieve that goal. The United States will not allow this to happen."

She also made it clear, however, that the sanctions are not aimed at the North Korean people.

"The North Korean people have suffered so much already under one of the most brutal regimes the world has ever known. Rather, the resolution focuses on a ruling elite that have inflicted so much of that suffering, always privileging the nuclear and ballistic missile programs over the welfare of the North Korean people," she said.

Power also said the U.S. and its partners will continue to pursue "rigorous and unyielding sanctions" as long as the North pursues nuclear weapons.

"We have seen how robust sanctions can alter a government's dangerous nuclear ambitions," she said. "The time to use this tool with the DPRK is now and we look forward to working with the council to put in place comprehensive, robust and unprecedented sanctions against the DPRK regime."

#2  Ah, ah, ah...no, no, no stepping on the tiger's tail. The first Pacific inbound stop&frisk will be humanitarian shipments of rice from Cali or Japan. I don't think there is any international water between China and NKor so that load of tractor parts will be claimed to have been 'pirated' in national waters.

I bet these sanctions are retaliation for the Spratly Island buildup. I wonder if JFK had to interrupt his Medi-Iranian vacation?

#3  The primary rail gateway to North Korea is via the Sino-Korea Friendship Bridge from Dandong, China to Sinuiju, North Korea.

Rajin has a rail link to the Russian system over a bridge across the Tumen River in the North Korea–Russia border.

Ship illegal stuff to a Chinese or Russian port and voila; instant sanction relief. Now, will Russia and China allow international inspectors to inspect trains enterining into norkland? That is when you know that they are serious.

There is a rail link from the ROK to the Kaesong industrial park but I trust that everything is already being inspected.

#4  There is also at least one improved highway along China and NorK, with at least one upgraded border crossing. Likely the former is more for Chinese border security.
