Hamas lights 15 tons of Snickers on fire after recall
Was there a leak about the GPS chips hidden inside the candy bars?
Fifteen tons of Snickers chocolate bars have met a sticky end in Gaza.

Islamic Hamas authorities hurled boxes of the peanut chocolate candy bar into a bomb crater Thursday, dousing them with diesel and lighting them in a crackling bonfire following a company recall.

Confectionary giant Mars recalled sweets from its Netherlands factory last month after "a small piece of red plastic" was found in a Snickers bar.

Three children from a nearby Bedouin encampment managed to snatch some of the chocolate bars before they melted away.

Israel has maintained tight restrictions on imports to the Gaza Strip since the militant Islamic group Hamas violently took over the enclave in 2007. Chocolate is exempt from the restrictions and Gaza should be able to restock its Snickers supply soon.

US Sends Three B-2s to Protect Joe M
At least that's what I think they're for. I can't imagine any other reason to send them there.
The United States has deployed three B-2 Spirit nuclear stealth bombers to support U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Strategic Command announced Wednesday.

The aircraft are the United States' most advanced bomber and part of its nuclear deterrent defenses.

It is not the first time that the United States deployed the B-2 bombers to the Pacific Command. Last fall, the U.S. Air Force deployed three B-2s to Guam. In March 2013, the U.S. sent two B-2s to conduct a flyover near Seoul, South Korea. All three bomber deployments followed North Korean missile tests.

In recent weeks, U.S. and South Korean officials have publicly discussed providing additional strategic defenses for South Korea, including deploying the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense missile defense system. The officials announced they were discussing its deployment in response to long-range missile launches in early February by North Korea.

Previously, U.S. and South Korean officials had not publicly acknowledged any discussions on the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system due to pressure placed on South Korea by China not to accept the system. U.S. officials now emphasize the deployment of THAAD would be to protect South Korea and the approximately 28,500 U.S. soldiers based there.

On Tuesday, North Korea announced it has developed the capability to put a miniaturized nuclear weapon on a ballistic missile, the same day that the Air Force deployed the B-2s. The Air Force did not specify where the B-2s would be based.

"Recent events demonstrate the continued need to provide consistent and credible air power throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region," said Gen. Lori J. Robinson, Pacific Air Forces commander. "Our ability to demonstrate credible combat power while training and inter-operating with our network of like-minded partner nations is vitally important."

Clinton shows her vulnerable side: ‘I'm not a natural politician'
When asked why her "untrustworthy" rating is so high after 25 years in public office, Hillary Clinton winced. "It's painful for me to hear that," she said, perhaps remembering the 2008 New Hampshire debate in which she was asked almost exactly the same question, but with fewer years. "Well, that hurts my feelings," she had said then.
The only time she has feelings is when something stands between her and the brass ring.
The more voters get to know her, the more they like her, she answered, citing her popularity as senator after New Yorkers "saw me in action." Then she got personal.

"I'm not a natural politician, in case you haven't noticed, like my husband or President Obama," she said. "So I have a view that I just have to do the best I can, get the results I can, make a difference in people's lives."
Just not the difference that we want.
There was no follow-up question for Sen. Bernie Sanders on why voters might not like him.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran Rebuilds, Arms Stolen U.S. Spy Drone
Iranian military leaders announced Thursday that they had successfully reproduced and improved a U.S. sentinel spy drone, one of which was downed and captured in Iranian territory in 2011.

Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps' Aerospace Force, announced that Iran is calling its own version of the spy drone, "Simorgh," which is Iranian for "Phoenix," according to the country's state controlled media.

Iran's version of the drone "was manufactured through reverse engineering of the U.S. drone, which was tracked and hunted down in Iran late in 2011, and has been equipped by the IRGC with bombing capability," according to Fars News Agency.
Remember when our government told us that this drone was so delicately balanced that there was no room for an explosive detonator on it to mitigate the damage if this thing fell into enemy hands? Remember when I called BS on that? Well, it seems I was right. Although the Iranians did sort of cheat by putting the explosive on the outside, their primitive engineering team managed to find a way whereas our far more advanced team supposedly could not. I blame the idiots making the decisions.
The Iranian media outlet further claimed that "Iran has downed many other U.S. drones as well, and they have always started reproducing them immediately after conducting reverse engineering."
Golly, I sorta doubt that. But maybe I missed something in the news.

Government
Found: A Way to Spend "Stranded" Highway Funds
FHWA Administrator Gregory Nadeau said in a statement, "By providing a path to put nearly two billion stranded dollars to work, we have an important opportunity to support infrastructure projects across the country while at the same time clearing a legacy backlog and promoting good government."
Right. Good government means spending every dime we can. What would you want us to do? Pay it back to taxpayers? Retire the Federal Debt? Who could choose?

The appropriations measure says that to be eligible for the funding shift, earmarked projects had to have been authorized or had funds appropriated before Oct. 1, 2005. They also had to have less than 10% of their funds obligated, or spent, as of Dec. 18, the spending bill's enactment date.

The impact will vary from state to state. Just counting projects with less than 10% funding obligated, ENR calculates that New York has the largest amount of potential repurposed funds, with $215.6 million. Georgia ranks second, with $166 million; followed by California, with $126.1 million; Virginia, with $122.7 million; and New Jersey, with $116.9 million. North Dakota and Wyoming, on the other hand, have no eligible orphan earmarks in the under-10% category.
Apparently, that's bad government.

But wait! There's more!

Also available for "repurposing" are unspent money for projects that have more than 10% of their funding obligated and are completed, according to FHWA. Data shows that unobligated amount is $3.3 billion on top of the $1.96 billion. But not all of that $3.3 billion may end up being reused.

The appropriations statute attaches another string to the money, specifying that the funds must be reused on other projects located within 50 miles of the original earmarked project.
Once my boodle, always my boodle.

Ann Coulter: Springtime for Pundits
A man is measured by his enemies
Half of the Washington political class is vowing to vote for Hillary -- even Stalin! -- over Trump; psychologists (and massage therapists) report they are treating patients for "Trump anxiety"; lengthy thought-pieces on Trump have no room to mention his signature issue, immigration, but get prolix on George Wallace, Mussolini and Hitler. #3  Welcome to Camelot - just dont dare protest or you get sucker punched. What say you about this dale - what justifies a sucker punch on a protester who was being escorted out? Is this the sort of thuggery you Trumpies do? BLM is a bunch af jerks, yes, but why give them free publicity? Why turn to violence? Explain THAT Dale.

There is a very ugly undercurrent to part of the Trump support, its racist, antisemetic, and tends toward threats and violence. The Republic does not need that sort of thing, much less the Republican party. Crap like this is why Trump is losing some of the 60% of the GOP who voted for someone else once the general election gets here, if he is the candidate. Character counts - and Trump is seriously lacking it based on his life and his words and those who flock to him.

#4  From Sean Davis, a very conservative, anti-establishment writer at the federalist: The Trump campaign is basically like all other totalitarian movements: It’s not about any policy in particular, it’s about allowing losers to feel like they are winners. That’s why Trump’s message is specifically tailored to people who internally know they are losers, and why it repeatedly promises that if they follow Trump, he will take them to a land where they will get revenge on the “elites” and foreigners who have kept them down.

Seems pretty close to the mark.

#5  Its also Trump staffers - Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski manhandled Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields the other day.

Lewandowski acknowledged to Breitbart’s Washington political editor, Matthew Boyle, that he did manhandle Fields. Lewandowski’s explanation to Boyle, said these sources, was that he and Fields had never met before and that he didn’t recognize her as a Breitbart reporter, instead mistaking her for an adversarial member of the mainstream media.

So its OK to manhandle a woman in the press if you believe she's not friendly to your candidate? What kind of people is Trump hiring? I guess in Camelot, they manhandle reporters they dont know and are afraid might ask hard questions.

#6  If you're going to have people posting campaign agitprop like the article here, then expect a response. And please have the courage to allow adversarial voices. Some of us responding defended this nation and the Constitution, and will not sit silently while rubes back a potential threat to what freedoms we have left.

Camelot, nearly the complete opposite. The use of that metaphor serves to show the level of self delusion the Trump followers are inflicting on themsleves and would inflict on us. Just like the Obama followers did, feeling instead of thinking. And you see what that got us. This nation has lost its mind if it sees Trump as anything more than what he is (liar, demagogue, authoritarian), or Hillary for anything more than what she is (criminal, liar, opportunist), and, incredibly, that socialist is actually seriously considered after so much time treasure and lives were spend depositing it on the ash heap of history. Thank you GOPe for throwing away what we had left of a republic.

#17  To any of you dismissing this and supporting Trump, do yourselves a favor; Address the authoritarianism implicit in the war crime orders. Or perhaps the recent physical battery on the press by Trumps campaign manager. Or here is a simple one:

Explain HOW that wall gets built. Without the magical thinking and handwaving "oh He will do a deal".

Without Congress funding it, it goes nowhere. Mexico to pay for it, How? Tarrifs? Have you no sense of history, read up on Smoot Hawley and how tariff wars wrecked the economy and ushered in the depression.

Do you support "governing" by bypassing Congress with more Obama-style Rule By Decree executive orders, as long as they are ones you agree with? See the problem inherent in supporting Trump for what it is, he is an authoritarian with no real plans, and nothing more than a "make the bastards pay" campaign. Its nearly the flip side of "Hope and Change"

#22  People, let's take a moment to take Trump seriously. He is quite likely to win and be the next President. Yet his persona upsets people. How can that be?

Because people vote for him. Think about why they do that. And it is not about the past -- what they did or he did -- it is about the future. Ask yourself, how are these candidates' future actions are going to affect you.

Every other candidate is promising to cut spending, raise taxes, regulate business, cut programs, and/or disrupt your community.

Trump is just saying things are going to be great.

If we have debased our educational system and/or our economy to the point that this is persuasive then this is what we are going to get. Either from Trump or the next guy that says the same thing more persuasively.

St. Simon's Island, GA: 54 Private Jets at Meeting to Stop Trump
[Breitbart] Huffington Post reporter Ryan Grim told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Tuesday that "something like 54 private jets" had arrived at an elite meeting of tech CEOs, GOP party insiders and big donors set on stopping Donald Trump before he wins the Republican nomination.

The meeting was the annual World Forum, an off-the-record conference hosted by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a leading Washington, D.C.-based conservative think tank. AEI has hosted the "secretive" event since 1982, but this year had a unique focus. Republican pundit Bill Kristol and former George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove were there, among others, including leaders of both the House and Senate.

#2  I'm delighted to see Trump stir up the politicians. And the media. But if his negatives are so high, as I read here yesterday, the Beest might take it. Mrs. Bobby, no liberal by any stretch of the imagination, fears The Donald so much she just might vote for Hillary.

He's gonna hafta started acting more presidential before the election, and maybe the Pubs could help with that. But if he did, you'd have to be there, to see it live, because the press would never report it.

Think about that. Who's writing it and who's pushing it for consumption. He's a demagogue, he's Hitler, he's a fascist, etc, etc, etc. What will he be next week. What personifications will they keep coming up with? Freudian projection on parade from real crony-capitalist fascists that have very serious interests in the power and money that have been centralized in their paws for the last several decades.

All the info mongers said he was suppose to fold in a month or two. So much for talking heads.

We're witnessing people crawling over broken glass and it panics the oligarchs and their retinues at St. Simon's Island.

#9  Procopius, open your eyes. They write about him being a fascist because he behaves like one. Ordering war crimes, for instance, and insisting the military will obey HIM and not the UCMJ or their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. And htat's just one example. And yes he tried to walk it back, but his first words show his instincts and (lack of) character. You might want to stop defending him on this unless you want people to think you support him because of his fascist tendencies.

And the negatives are a FACT - they are repeatedly verified by multiple statistically valid surveys - so are you just sitting there telling me "LALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU" when confronted with facts? Are you becoming a Trumpbot every bit in denial and willful ignorance as the Obamabots were back in 2008? Take a hard look in the mirror about what you are doing and who it shows you to be.

#12  Back at the end of the 90s Apple computer was on the ropes. Desperate, they brought in Gil Amelio. Promised him a large golden parachute (because the turn-around job looked impossible) and set him lose to try to save the company. Now Gil was no savior, he didn't have what it took to recreate Apple but he was just the guy to stop the bleeding and take all the negatives for doing so. Then Jobs worked his way in and rebuilt the company.

Trump is no Jobs but he might be a Gil Amelio. At this point I'd settle with that.

#13  It drives me nuts the way people throw around the term "fascist". Fascism was specified by Mussolini.
In his own words it is:

Anti-individualistic, the Fascist conception of life stresses the importance of the State and accepts the individual only in so far as his interests coincide with those of the State, which stands for the conscience and the universal, will of man as a historic entity (11).

Now who in this election believes in and stresses the importance of the State and accepts the individual only in so far as his interests coincide with those of the State???

Take your time it's not a hard question.

#20  Procopius, open your eyes.

My eyes are open. They observe that the 'Right' is as intolerant as the 'Left' when it comes to a democracy and the people. "The masses are unable to digest the 'evil' of the other guy and need to be ruled 'educated' for their own good." And if that means putting the fix in, so be it.

It's all illusion. All ritural and ceremony. The republic is dead. It's an oligarchy. Too much power and money have been concentrated. As the story reports, those having it are not going to give it up politely. Your real choice is Pompey, Caesar or Crassus.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Yes Rick, Chumlee really is that stupid.
[Huffpoo] Austin "Chumlee" Russell, one of the stars of the popular History show "Pawn Stars," was arrested in Las Vegas on Wednesday during an investigation into a sexual assault case.

No charges have been filed in connection with the alleged assault, which is still under investigation, Deadline reported. However, police found at least one gun as well as methamphetamine and marijuana during a search of the 33-year-old reality star's home.

"We don't have details yet but are here to help Chumlee however we can," Rick Harrison, Russell's costar and owner of the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop at the heart of the show, told the Las Vegas Sun.

Russell was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, where, as of Wednesday night, he was still listed as an inmate facing charges of "possession of a gun by a prohibited person" and 19 drug-related charges.

His bail was set at $3,000 for each drug charge and $5,000 for the gun charge, for a total of $62,000.

He has a court appearance scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

Russell has been a star of "Pawn Stars since its inception in 2009, where he is often the comic relief.

The show is in its 12th season.

Afghan woman kills 25 Taliban rebels to avenge her son's murder
[KP] An Afghan woman has killed at least 25 Taliban militants to avenge the murder of her son who was a police officer in western Farah province.

According to reports, Reza Gul was forced to pick up arms after her son was shot dead by Taliban militants in front of her eyes.

Her son was leading a small group of police forces in a check post located in a village of Farah province.

She was supported by her daughter and daughter-in-law during the gun battle which lasted for almost 7 hours that left at least 25 Taliban militants dead and five others injured.
Sediq Sediq, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the armed campaign by women against the Taliban militants is a symbol of a major revolution and public uprising against the group.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the incident so far.

Farah is among the volatile provinces in western Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in its various districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

Comey's FBI makes waves
[The Hill] The aggressive posture of the FBI under Director James Comey is becoming a political problem for the White House.

The FBI’s demand that Apple help unlock an iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino killers has outraged Silicon Valley, a significant source of political support for President Obama and Democrats.

Comey, meanwhile, has stirred tensions by linking rising violent crime rates to the Black Lives Matter movement’s focus on police violence and by warning about "gaps" in the screening process for Syrian refugees.

Then there’s the biggest issue of all: the FBI’s investigation into the private email server used by Hillary Clinton, Obama’s former secretary of State and the leading contender to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

Power pole blast kills two Thai soldiers
[Bangkok Post] Two soldiers were killed and three others wounded when a power pole was bombed and fell on their teacher-protection patrol in Narathiwat province on Wednesday afternoon.

Troops, paramilitary rangers and defense volunteers were traveling in two vehicles as escort to a teachers' car in Chanae district when a roadside power pole was blown up. The pole snapped and fell on to the roof of the leading Isuzu pickup truck which carried three officers. The pole bounced onto the car with three teachers and the school director. Defense volunteers in the rear vehicle ordered the director to drive the badly damaged car back to school to take shelter.

US Troops in Helicopter-Borne Raid in Somalia: US Official
[ALMANAR.LB] US troops took part in a helicopter-borne special forces raid against Shebab insurgents in Somalia, a US official said Wednesday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the overnight Tuesday to Wednesday operation as a "US partnered raid" with US troops accompanying Somali forces.

An Nahar adds:

U.S. aircraft were used in the operation, which the front man described as an "advise, assist and accompany mission" with the Somali army.

"We did go on the mission but we did not go all the way to the objective," Navy Captain Jeff Davis said.

Shabelle adds: "top" Al shabaab leaders killed in US airstrike on Raso camp

A Somali official says senior Al shabaab commanders are among 150 militants killed in a U.S. airstrike on a training camp in Hiiraan region of central Somalia.
Senior = number three?
The district commissioner of Bulo-Burte Abdiaziz Durow confirmed the death of the Al shabaab’s head of defense Sheikh Abukar Ali Aden and other top leaders who were killed in drone attack.

Mr Durow said the slain leaders were attending a closing ceremony for new Al shabaab recruits trained in Raso camp near Bulo-Burte town at the time of the U.S. airstrike last Saturday.

Those killed in the U.S. Drone attack include Yusuf Ali Ugas, Al shabaab governor who was in charge of Hiiraan region and Mohamed Mire, a high-ranking militant leader.

The Pentagon has announced U.S. drone attack killed 150 Al shabaab members in the airstrike, targeted Raso training camp located west of Bulo-Burte town, a figure Al-Shabaab described as an exaggeration.

Europe
Severed Head Found at Amsterdam Hookah Bar
[An Nahar] Dutch authorities closed down a notorious Amsterdam hookah bar Wednesday after a severed human head was discovered at its entrance, a grisly find believed to be linked to a drug war between rival gangs.

A passer-by signaled the gruesome scene to police, who linked it to the discovery of a decapitated body in a burnt-out car elsewhere in the city.

Police said the body belonged to 23-year-old Amsterdam resident Nabil Amzieb, who was known to the authorities.

"A police probe later confirmed the head belonged to the body," they said in a statement.

The hookah bar called the Fayrouz Lounge is a "well-known gathering spot for criminals involved in the so-called "Mocro-war", a power struggle mainly between Moroccan gangs in the city, public broadcaster NOS said.

It most likely represented a "new phase" in the gang war, which has seen several others murdered in the scenic Dutch capital, including one man who was killed after visiting the same bar, Dutch media reports said.

Biden Criticizes 'Failure to Condemn' Palestinian Attacks
[An Nahar] U.S. Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
The former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body...
on Wednesday implicitly criticized Paleostinian leaders for not condemning attacks against Israelis, as an upsurge in violence marred his visit.

Six separate attacks took place shortly before or after Biden's arrival Tuesday, including a stabbing spree on Tel Aviv's waterfront by a Paleostinian who killed an American tourist and maimed 12 other people.

The stabbings in the Jaffa port area took place as Biden met former Israeli president Shimon Peres about a kilometer (less than a mile) away on Tuesday.

Biden said his wife and grandchildren had been having dinner on the beach not far from the site of the stabbings.

"The United States of America condemns these acts and condemns the failure to condemn these acts," Biden said while meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The kind of violence we saw yesterday, the failure to condemn it, the rhetoric that incites that violence, the retribution that it generates, has to stop."

Biden offered his condolences to the family of the American victim, 29-year-old Taylor Force, whom he noted had served in the U.S. military in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Arabia
Gulf States Snub Hizbullah-Affiliated Channels
[An Nahar] Information ministers of the Saudi-led Gulf Cooperation Council have taken a series of measures following the GCC's blacklisting of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
last week.

During a meeting they held in Riyadh on Tuesday, the ministers decided to take all legal measures to prevent cooperation with TV channels affiliated to Hizbullah or its leaders.

The statement issued following the meeting said "Hizbullah seeks to stir strife and incite chaos and violence."

The ministers stressed that legal measures apply to production companies, producers, and all that falls under the umbrella of the media as part of measures taken to implement the GCC resolution which considered Hizbullah a terrorist organization.

The move by the Saudi-led bloc of six Gulf nations last Wednesday came less than two weeks after Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
announced it was cutting $4 billion in aid to the Lebanese army and security forces.

There are fears that the Gulf states would pile more pressure on Leb, including deporting Lebanese expats and stopping flights to Leb.

The Saudi Embassy in Beirut denied a report
No, no! Certainly not!
in the Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas that Saudi Arabian Airlines has urged travel agencies in Kuwait to stop booking flights to Leb on the kingdom's national carrier.

The airline urged the agencies to allow travelers, who have already booked their flights, to redeem their tickets, al-Qabas said.

Afghanistan
Taliban militants abduct 11 civilians in northern Sar-e-Pul province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have kidnapped at least 11 civilians from an highway in northern Sar-e-Pul province of Afghanistan, local officials said Wednesday.

The officials further added that the civilians were travelling in a vehicle when they were stopped and kidnapped by the Lion of Islams.

A member of the provincial council Mohammad Ali Hakimi confirmed the civilians were on their way to quiet provincial capital when their vehicle was stopped.

Sar-e-Pul is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed forces of Evil groups are actively operating in a number of its districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

Heavy festivities were reported in parts of Sar-e-Pul province as the Talibs launched coordinated attacks on Afghan security posts late last year.

The Talibs also took control of Kohistan

at district following an offensive earlier in the month of October last year.

The anti-government armed forces of Evil also kidnapped five civilians from a highway between the northern Jawzjan and Sar-e-Pul province earlier in September last year.

Militants are often stopping the civilians buses and vehicles on main highways in volatile parts of the country and kidnap civilians, accusing them of working for the government or being members of the security forces.

Two children killed in celebratory fire in Nangarhar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Whether it is a proposal for marriage, wedding or win in a game, in some areas of Afghanistan, people shot in the air to express their happiness.

They load their weapons and ready to pull the trigger as soon as the girls family say ‘yes’ to the proposal for marriage.

The celebratory shots are also fired during the wedding night. When there is a win in a game, that is something coming with unbelievable fires. You would feel like a large scale attack has been launched on the town or city you live in.

The same happened last night when the National Cricket Team of Afghanistan defeated Scotland in the ICC World Twenty20 match.

Afghanistan played first securing 170 runs and giving a target of 171 runs to Scotland.

Scotland fall short to reach to the target during its inning of batting and lost the game.

As Afghanistan was announced winner of the match, gun fires started in the bustling provincial capital of eastern Nangarhar

province and a number of its districts.

Two children lost lives in these fires.

Even though, officials have put a ban on celebratory fires but they have not been able to stop it.

Iraq
ISIS attacks Kurd, Iraqi positions in Mosul
QAMISHLI – The radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) has stepped up its attacks on locations of the Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga forces on the outskirts of Mosul city in Nineveh province, northern Iraq, Kurdish military sources reported on Wednesday.

“Daesh militants shelled joint positions for the Peshmerga and Iraqi army in Mosul suburb in a bid to impede their progress towards the city,” said Sirwan Barzani, leader of the Peshmerga forces in the fighting front of Makhmour-Kweir, using an acronym for ISIS.

The bombardment has killed and wounded a number of soldiers from the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army, the official reported.

Barzani pointed out that ISIS had earlier launched several attacks against the Peshmerga forces in the Makhmour front, “but these attacks have doubled since the arrival of the Iraqi military forces to the area.”

“Daesh (ISIS) tries to fight back after the Peshmerga and allies made remarkable gains in Mosul countryside,” he added.

Speaking to ARA News in Erbil, capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, political analyst Ahmed Suleiman said: “By launching such attacks, ISIS tries to impede the ongoing progress by the Peshmerga and Iraqi army troops near Mosul, which is the main bastion for the radical group in northern Iraq.”

“Backed by an air cover from the U.S.-led coalition, the Kurdish Peshmerga and allies Iraqi forces have launched the battle for Mosul, and they seem determined to continue their military operations there until regaining the strategic city,” Suleiman said.

Iran Defies US Warnings, Tests more Ballistic Missiles in Second Day of Drills
[ALMANAR.LB] Iran said its armed forces had fired two more ballistic missiles on Wednesday as it continued tests in defiance of US warnings.

"Long-range Qadr-H and Qadr-F precision missiles were fired today... which destroyed targets" some 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) away, official media quoted the deputy head of the Revolutionary Guards, General Hussein Salami, as saying.

State television broadcast video of two missiles being fired from a site in the Alborz mountain range in northern Iran.

The Islamic Theocratic Republic also carried out multiple ballistic missile tests on Tuesday.

The missile sanctions were imposed a day after nuclear-related sanctions on Iran were lifted.

US State Department front man John Kirby warned on Tuesday that Washington might take unilateral or international action in response.

"The more our enemies increase the sanctions the more intense the Guards' reaction" will be, General Amir Ali Hajizadeh who heads the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace wing said on Wednesday.

"Yesterday we saw missiles fired from silos and platforms and today the launches are taking place from the heart of our Islamic land," he added.

"The reason we have designed these missiles with such a range -- 2,000 kilometers - is to be able to hit our remote enemies, the Zionist regime," ISNA news agency quoted Hajizadeh as saying.

The latest tests, called "The Power of Velayat", a reference to the religious doctrine of the Islamic republic's leadership, were undertaken by the Revolutionary Guards and Aerospace Forces.

The series of tests included short-, medium- and long-range precision guided missiles, with ranges of 300 kilometers, 500 kilometers, 800 kilometers and 2,000 kilometers, state media reported.

Israel to crack down on Palestinian illegals after attacks
Consequences.
[IsraelTimes] Netanyahu orders repairs for gaps in security barrier, blocking entry from the West Bank; calls for inciting media to be shut down

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday ordered a series of measures following three bloody attacks by Paleostinians the previous day, including repair work to seal gaps in the security barrier near Jerusalem, harsher punishments for those who help Paleostinians illegally enter Israel, and the shutting down of Paleostinian media channels that broadcast incitement.

Two of the three Paleostinians who carried out the attacks did not have permits to be Israel. The third was an East Jerusalem resident.

Netanyahu called a late-night emergency security meeting at his Jerusalem bureau in the wake of the attacks, which left one person dead -- American visitor Taylor Force -- and a dozen injured. Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, and Israel Police Chief Roni Alsheich attended the meeting, along with representatives from the IDF and the Shin Bet security service.

As an immediate measure, a decision was taken to seal any gaps in the security fence through which Paleostinians are able to cross from the West Bank into areas around Jerusalem. In addition, work to finish construction of the security fence in area of Tarkumiya, south of the Hebron Hills, was to be accelerated.

The meeting also resolved to push legislation to increase punishments for those who help Paleostinians enter Israel without permits. In addition, authorities would cancel many existing work and trade permits that have been issued to Paleostinians, tens of thousands of whom commute every day from the West Bank to jobs inside Israel.

Paleostinian media channels that incite to violence were also to be shut down. According to a Haaretz report, Defense Ministry officials will decide which Paleostinian media the measures apply to.

Following the Tuesday incidents police increased their presence in cities across the country and called on the public to remain alert

Top Taliban leaders among 67 reported killed in Herat infighting
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Amid ongoing fierce festivities among Taliban factions in western Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
province of Afghanistan, reports have emerged regarding the death of two top leaders of the group.

The two top leaders of the group have been identified as Mullah Malik and Mulalh Wakil who have been killed during ongoing infighting which erupted two days ago.

According to reports, Mullah Malik and Mullah Wakil were Taliban’s big shot and were operating for the group in western Farah province of Afghanistan.

Preliminary reports suggest at last 67 Talibs have been killed and 65 others have been maimed as festivities still continue between the two sides.

Local officials said Tuesday that festivities between the two top Taliban leaders, Mullah Samad and Mullah Nangialai, broke out on Monday afternoon in Shindand district.

The officials further added that the deadly infighting erupted due to differences on group’s leadership.

The latest festivities between the Taliban factions follows almost three months after a similar clash broke out between the rival groups in this province.

The Taliban factions are occasionally engaging in deadly infighting, mainly due to differences over the group’s leadership, which changed following the death of the group’s founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.

Mullah Mansoor assumed charge of the Taliban group in July last year following the announcement of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar’s death.

His controversial appointment as new Taliban supreme leader led to widening rift among the Taliban leaders who are often entering into deadly clash.

Israeli security forces arrested a Paleostinian woman who broke into the Kedumim settlement armed with a knife on Wednesday, an army spokesperson said.

The woman snuck into the Mitzpeh Yishai neighborhood of the Kedumim settlement, which is located just east of the central Israeli city of Kfar Saba.

Following the attack, the IDF closed off Hajjah and carried out searches in the village.

The IDF arrested 16 Paleostinian suspects in the West Bank on Tuesday night, 12 of them for rock-throwing or participating in violent protests. Another suspect is believed to be a member of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, the IDF said.

Venezuela Opposition Vows ’All Means’ to Oust Maduro
[ALMANAR.LB] Venezuela's opposition called Tuesday for the "largest movement that has ever existed" to oust President Nicolas Maduro, vowing to pursue all means to force him from power, including a referendum and protests.

The opposition, which has been on a collision course with Maduro since winning control of the legislature in December, spent weeks deciding on its strategy to remove the socialist president, whose popularity has plunged in the face of a crippling economic crisis.

In the end, after a heated debate over the merits of a referendum, a constitutional amendment or the drafting of a new constitution, it announced its plan was all of the above, and more.

It placed special emphasis on its call for protests, starting from Saturday -- a potentially explosive path amid the tensions tearing at Venezuela, after anti-government demonstrations in 2014 left 43 people dead.

"The Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) has taken the unanimous decision to call on the Venezuelan people to launch the largest popular pressure movement that has ever existed, to activate all -- I repeat, all -- mechanisms for change," said the opposition coalition's executive secretary, Jesus Torrealba.

That, he said, includes organizing a recall referendum, which enables voters to remove elected officials midway through their terms -- six years, in the case of the president.

Maduro was elected in 2013, a month after succeeding mentor Hugo Chavez following his death from cancer. Maduro reaches the midway point of his term in six weeks, on April 19.

U.S. Special Forces Chief: No Plan to Take IS 'Capital'
[An Nahar] The commander of U.S. special operations said Tuesday that, while coalition forces have put the Islamic State group under pressure, there is no immediate battlefield plan to take its de facto capital.

Briefing U.S. lawmakers in Washington, senior generals said the U.S.-led anti-IS coalition was working with local ground forces to isolate the group's Syrian stronghold in the city of Raqa.

But General Joseph Votel, head of Special Operations Command, said this broad strategy does not yet amount to a plan to take Raqa, despite recent advances by U.S.-backed fighters grouped under the "Syrian Democratic Forces" banner.

"There is currently not a plan," he said. Asked whether the coalition has a plan hold the city after it falls, he added: "I would say no, there is not a plan to hold Raqa."

And, under questioning from the Senate Armed Services Committee, he admitted that the SDF force that the U.S.-led coalition relies upon for ground forces in the Raqa area is "probably about 80 percent" Kurdish.

The coalition has been criticized for its over-reliance on Kurdish allies, who may struggle to win over civilians in a mainly Arab town like Raqa and are considered suspect by neighboring Turkey.

Terrorists carry out two shooting attacks in Jerusalem; One critically wounded
[Jpost] Violence rattled the capital for a second day Wednesday, when two Paleostinian bandidos turbans responsible for separate drive-by shootings were killed by police during a shoot-out near the Old City following a citywide manhunt.

An Arab-Israeli man in his late 50s was critically maimed after being shot twice by the suspects during the shootout, which took place on a major thoroughfare between the New Gate and light-rail tracks.

At approximately 8 a.m., police first received reports about two suspicious Arab men driving a blue vehicle on Golda Meir Boulevard in the capital’s Ramot neighborhood.

Moments later, shots were fired from the car in the direction of an Egged bus, police said.

Before officers arrived at the scene, an armed Israeli man who witnessed the shooting exited his car and fired a single shot at the terrorists’ vehicle before they fled the area.

"We know that shots were fired in the direction of the bus by two Arab suspects armed with automatic weapons, but no bullet holes were found on the bus itself," said Police front man Micky Rosenfeld, who added that no casualties were reported.

"Police units immediately set up road blocks and launched a search for the vehicle driven by the terrorists, which we knew was still in Jerusalem and was spotted by special patrol units between the Old City’s Damascus Gate and New Gate one hour later."

Rosenfeld said that when police approached the car, shots were fired at them before the officers returned fire and killed both suspects.

None of the officers were maimed, but a 57-year-old Arab-Israeli bystander walking in the area was struck in the head and chest by two bullets fired by the suspects.

Magen David Adom paramedics at the scene treated the east Jerusalem resident, who was rushed to Hadassah- University Medical Center on Jerusalem’s Mount Scopus at death's door.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Another attempt to steal $870m from BB foiled
[Dhaka Tribune] An attempt of laundering $870 million, in addition to already stolen $100m from Bangladesh Bank, was foiled in February thanks to international banks' recalling of an order to transfer the amount to local banks in the Philippines.

Just a few days ago $81m had been suspected to have been stolen from the central bank of Bangladesh and managed to enter the Philippine banks. The amount was already released to the local clients of Rizal Commercial Banking Corp (RCBC), revealed a report by Philippine daily the Inquirer yesterday.

Soon after the RCBC released the funds to its client, the bank received a so-called "MT103" message through the Swift system from international banks recalling the $81m and ordering to stop the release of another $870 million -- roughly one-third of the cost of constructing the Padma Bridge -- in inward transfers.

The Inquirer quoted a banking source as saying that the transfer of the $870 million was stopped in time, but $81m had already been released and, by the time authorities were alerted, had already been moved back offshore.

Bangladesh Bank claims that it has already brought back an amount of $20m that was stolen from its reserve account and laundered to Sri Lanka.

"We have brought back a portion [of the stolem money] from Sri Lanka with the help of the Sri Lankan central bank," Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Subhankar Saha told journalists in Dhaka yesterday after a meeting with the scheduled banks on cyber security.

He expects that the amount of $81m transferred to the Philippines will be recovered soon with the help of the anti-money laundering authorities there. He declined to disclose anything further for the sake of investigation.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Kurds, rebels cut ISIS supply line in Hasakah
HASAKAH – Backed by the U.S.-led coalition’s warplanes, Kurdish-Arab alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) expelled Wednesday militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) from a key town in northeastern Syria.

Subsequent to clashes with ISIS militants, the SDF has recaptured the Umm Madfah town in Hasakah province, on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Umm Madfah was a main supply route for ISIS jihadis between their de facto capital of Raqqa and the southern countryside of Hasakah province, northeastern Syria.

The town had also served as a meeting point for ISIS jihadis during their movements between Syria and Iraq.

“By retaking Umm Madfah, our fighters were able to block the ISIS supply line between Raqqa and Hasakah,” SDF official spokesman Talal Silo told ARA News. “Also, the movement of the terrorists was paralyzed after this victory by our forces in northern Syria.”

ISIS Under SDF Fire

The SDF, which includes Kurdish, Arab and Christian units, had earlier liberated more than 240 towns and villages from ISIS militants on the border with Iraq, the last of which was Shaddadi–main ISIS bastion in Hasakah province.

Two weeks ago, the SDF alliance had seized control of a key gas facility and main financial resource for the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province. The western-backed forces regained control of the Jibisa gas facility, located about 12km east of Shaddadi city in southern Hasakah.

The facility had been used by ISIS for nearly two years as a source to fund its operations. Informed sources told ARA News that ISIS used to produce 5,000 gas cylinders a day in Jibisa to be sold at the black-market. Local sources reported that ISIS has been coordinating with the Syrian regime to sell the gas it used to extract from Jibisa fields, and that the regime’s employees have been working in the facility even during ISIS control.

Jibisa gas facility is considered one of the main gas facilities in northern Syria for its huge production that has been feeding power stations in central Syria. The facility was run by some 500 workers, including specialized engineers, technicians and workers.

Tunisian Forces Foil overnight Terrorist Attack, Kill 6 Gunmen
[ALMANAR.LB] Tunisian security forces killed six "terrorists" overnight near Ben Guerdane after a deadly terrorist attack on the town near the border with Libya, the interior ministry said on Wednesday.

"Security and army units tonight eliminated five turbans in the Benniri sector" near the frontier, the ministry said late Tuesday.

Early Wednesday it revised the toll, saying that a sixth suspect terrorist had been killed overnight.

Four Kalashnikov assault rifles were recovered, it added.

Tunisian media reports late Tuesday said security forces had surrounded a house where suspected holy warriors were holed up, but this information has yet to be officially confirmed.

Benniri is a few kilometers (miles) south of Ben Guerdane which is still under curfew after Monday's dawn attack in which 36 assailants, 12 members of the security forces and seven non-combatants were killed.

The authorities said the attack was an unprecedented assault by the so-called 'Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
group aimed at setting up a new stronghold in the country across the border from Libya.

Witnesses reported a massive security presence on Wednesday in Ben Guerdane, a town of 60,000 people.

The authorities have warned that mopping up operations after Monday's attack would continue.

Prime Minister Habib Essid said on Tuesday that about 50 Death Eaters were believed to have taken part in the assaults on an army barracks and police and National Guard posts.

Defense ministry front man Belhassen Oueslati said 17 suspects were incarcerated
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
on Tuesday near a military barracks and handed over to the National Guard for questioning.

Arabia
Prisoner Swap Takes Place as Yemenis, Saudis Hold Talks in Border Area
[ALMANAR.LB] Yemeni sources denied as not accurate reports which said that Ansarullah delegation went to Riyadh for talks with the Saudi regime over its brutal aggression against the Arab impoverished country.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the sources did not deny that talks had really taken place, noting that they were under the request of Riyadh.

The two sides met in a border area, the sources told al-Manar, noting that Riyadh offered to stop the Arclight airstrikes on Sanaa in exchange for that Yemeni army and the popular committees stop their retaliation attacks in the areas across the border with Saudi.

For its part, the Yemeni side refused the Saudi offer, insisting that the aggression should be halted against all the areas across Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and not only in Sanaa, the sources added.

In this context, the sources said that the Saudi offer comes as a result for its failure in the battlefield, in addition to the threat posed by Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
groups in the south.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, Cynthia backed into the galley, the barbecue fork held in front of her.
Jack! she called. Where the hell are you?...

another Yemeni source said that a prisoner swap deal took place between the two sides.

The swap included a Saudi colonel and Yemeni fighters, the source said, noting that the Saudi side recovered dozens of bodies of Saudi soldiers and mercenaries fighting alongside the Saudi-led coalition.

Yemen has been since March 26, 2015 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition.
Thousands have been martyred and injured in the attack, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

Riyadh launched the attack on Yemen in a bid to restore power to runaway president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi who is a close ally to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
Yemeni army, backed by the committees has been engaged in battles with Saudi-led mercenaries and Hadi’s militias in several areas across the country.

Pentagon Says ISIL’s Shishani Killed in US Strike over Syria
[ALMANAR.LB] US officials said on Tuesday that a top leader of the so-called 'Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. of Iraq and the Levant' (ISIL) takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
group may have been killed during a US Arclight airstrike in Syria.

Abu Omar al-Shishani, described by Pentagon as "ISIL Minister of War", is one of the most wanted terrorists, whose capture will cost a reward up to $5mn.

Born in 1986 in Georgia, Shishani was known for being a military advisor close to ISIL leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
The Arclight airstrike was carried out by war jets and unmanned aerial vehicles that targeted Shishani near the Syrian city of Al-Shadadi, and killed 12 other krazed killers, a US official said.

The US Defense Department believes that Shishani was dispatched to Shadadi to reinforce ISIL gunnies following a series of defeat they suffered last month.

"He was a Georgian national based in Syria, who chaired high ISIL posts, including the Minister of War," Peter Cook, Pentagon front man said, adding that Shishani's death will limit the ISIL's ability to coordinate attacks and defend strongholds.

"It will also limit the group's ability to recruit imported muscle, especially in Chechnya and Caucasus.

Several US officials - asked not to be named - expressed optimism following the Arclight airstrike, despite that the killing of Shishani has not been yet confirmed.

'Omar the Chechen': Notorious, Red-Bearded IS Warlord

[AnNahar] On Wednesday, a U.S. official said Shishani -- whose real name is Tarkhan Batirashvili -- "likely died" in an assault earlier this month by U.S. warplanes and drones in northeastern Syria.
Lots of obituary information about Mr. Batirashvili at the link -- his Christian father, his time in the Georgian army -- just in case he really is dead.
Shishani's father, Taimouraz Batirashvili, told the Russian news agency Interfax that he had no confirmation of his fate.

"I know nothing about the death of my son. They announce his death almost every month," he said.
Update from The Times of Israel at noon ET:
State commander leader Omar al-Shishani, known as Omar the Chechen, was “seriously injured” in a recent strike in northeastern Syria but not killed despite US suggestions to the contrary, a monitoring group said.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Wednesday that according to its sources the March 4 strike had indeed targeted the jihadist’s convoy, killing his bodyguards, while Shishani himself “was seriously injured.”

“He’s not dead,” the Observatory’s director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP. “He was taken from the province of Hasake to a hospital in Raqqa province where he was treated by a jihadist doctor of European origin."

[IsraelTimes] No injuries to security forces at West Bank checkpoint, in third attack in three hours Wednesday morning.

In the third attack in the space of three hours, a Paleostinian man attempted to stab IDF soldiers on Wednesday at a checkpoint near the West Bank Paleostinian village of Salfit, close to the Ariel settlement.

The attacker was rubbed out and there were no reports of injuries to security forces.

"An assailant armed with a knife attempted to stab forces at a checkpoint south of Qalqilya," the army said in a statement. "The force thwarted the attack, responding to the immediate threat, and shot the assailant, resulting in his death."

The attempted stabbing Wednesday morning came hours after two hard boyz carried out a shooting attack in Jerusalem that seriously injured an Arab-Israeli man.

China Offers Afghanistan Army Expanded Military Aid
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] China has offered the Afghanistan army expanded military aid to combat the Taliban, according to the Afghan Defense Ministry, a move that reflects Beijing’s readiness to deepen its engagement with the war-torn country, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The offer was made during a rare, high-level visit at the end of February by a Chinese military delegation headed by General Fang Fenghui, chief of the Joint Staff Department of the People’s Liberation Army, Afghan officials said.

China has been wary of publicly supporting the Afghan military against the Taliban, as it nurtures relations with the holy warrior group in an effort to be seen as a neutral party in the conflict and help the grinding of the peace processor. However,

Italy Says IS has 5,000 Fighters in Libya
[AnNahar] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group has around 5,000 fighters in Libya with the capacity to carry out deadly raids into neighboring countries, Italia's foreign minister told parliament on Wednesday.

The figure is at the top end of recent Western estimates of the number of IS fighters in Libya.

Italy last week dispatched a reported 50 members of its special forces to join US, British and French agents already on reconnaissance and intelligence operation services in Libya.
"According to our analyses, there are today around 5,000 Daesh [Islamic State] fighters in Libya," Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni told the Italian Senate, using an Arabic name for IS. "They are concentrated particularly in the area of (the city of) Sirte but from there they have the capacity to carry out dangerous incursions (into neighbouring states)."

Italia last week dispatched a reported 50 members of its special forces to join US, British and French agents already on reconnaissance and intelligence operation services in Libya.

Rome has also recently authorised the United States to launch drone strikes into its former colony from an airbase in Sicily in what has been seen as a sign of Western powers moving towards more active involvement in the country.

Gentiloni told the Senate there were no plans for action beyond the possible deployment of an Italian-led peacekeeping force if and when Libya forges a unified national government with the authority to request outside security support.

"The government will not be dragged into a pointless adventure that would be potentially dangerous for our national security," the minister said.

"Military interventions are not the solution," Gentiloni added, recalling that "Libya is six times the size of Italia and has 200,000 gunnies between the militias and the army."

STL Acquits Khayat, al-Jadeed of All Charges
[An Nahar] The Appeals Panel of the Special Tribunal for Leb on Tuesday acquitted al-Jadeed television and its vice chairwoman Karma al-Khayat of all charges of contempt.

The panel issued its judgment with "two separate opinions and one partially dissenting opinion," the STL said in a statement.

Presided over by STL President Judge Ivana Hrdlièková and consisting of Judge Janet Nosworthy and Judge Walid Akoum, the Appeals Panel reversed Khayat's conviction under Count 2 and set aside a fine of 10,000 Euros imposed on her by the Contempt Judge.

The panel also affirmed Khayat’s acquittal under Count 1 and al-Jadeed’s acquittal under both counts.

This case concerned al-Jadeed's August 2012 broadcast of five episodes regarding purported confidential tribunal witnesses and their online availability "in violation of an order issued by the Pre-trial Judge on August 10, 2012."

The accused, al-Jadeed and Khayat -- at the time al-Jadeed's Deputy Head of News and Political Programs -- were each charged with two counts of contempt of court for "knowingly and willfully interfering with the administration of justice by:

1. Broadcasting and/or publishing information on purported confidential witnesses in the Ayyash et al. case, thereby undermining public confidence in the Tribunal’s ability to protect the confidentiality of information about, or provided by, witnesses or potential witnesses (Count 1);

2. Failing to remove from Al Jadeed TV’s website and YouTube channel information on purported confidential witnesses in the Ayyash et al. case, thereby violating the 10 August 2012 Order (Count 2)."

On September 18, Contempt Judge Nicola Lettieri issued a judgment acquitting al-Jadeed on both counts while acquitting Khayat on Count 1 and finding her guilty on Count 2.

Consequently, on September 28, the Contempt Judge sentenced Khayat to a fine of 10,000 Euros.

In the proceedings before the Appeals Panel, the Amicus Curiae Prosecutor appealed al-Jadeed’s acquittal on both counts and Khayat’s acquittal on Count 1. In addition, the Defense appealed Khayat’s conviction on Count 2.

The STL has indicted five Hizbullah

‘Radicalized’ Frenchman held after flying to Morocco with knives in baggage

in Morocco after arriving on a Ryanair flight with knives and a gas bottle in his luggage, a local government official said on Wednesday .

The 31-year-old man, who had previously been under house arrest in La Belle France, was held upon arrival in Fez on Sunday, where authorities discovered the items, as well as a black balaclava, in his luggage.

He flew there with the low-cost airline from Nantes in western La Belle France, despite heightened security following an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group attack on Gay Paree in November that left 130 people dead.

Local government officials identified him as Manuel Broustail, a former soldier who converted to Islam. He was arrested in November after the attacks and sent to his room.

The municipality of the Loire-Atlantique region said Broustail was no longer under house arrest when he checked into the flight, and there was no reason to stop him leaving La Belle France.

According to photos published in Moroccan media, Broustail's luggage appeared to contain at least four kitchen knives, a machete, two pocket knives, a truncheon, a balaclava and gas bottle.

The municipality said La Belle France had signaled the man's presence to the Moroccan authorities and that his arrest in Fez "was not a matter of chance".

The Dublin-based carrier Ryanair told AFP the case was "the responsibility of Nantes airport security officials who are investigating".

The municipality said Broustail's hand luggage had contained nothing out of the ordinary, and his checked baggage had not raised alarm bells when passing through electronic detectors as it did not contain explosives.

A source close to the investigation said Broustail had moved to Morocco with his wife last year and had returned to La Belle France to sell his apartment.

USAF veteran convicted of attempting to join IS
[Reuters] Tairod Pugh, a U.S. Air Force veteran, was found guilty on Wednesday of attempting to join Islamic State, according to his lawyer.

After a week-long trial in Brooklyn federal court, a jury found Pugh, 48, guilty of attempting to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization, and obstruction for destroying four portable electronic storage devices after his detention in Turkey.

Prosecutors said Pugh immersed himself in violent Islamic State propaganda for months before buying a one-way flight from his home in Egypt to Turkey, where he hoped to cross the Syrian border into territory controlled by the extremist group.

He was detained by Turkish authorities at an Istanbul airport and eventually flown to the United States to face terrorism charges.

Pugh's defense lawyers argued that his only offense was to express "repugnant" views about Islamic State in Facebook posts and to watch dozens of the group's slickly produced recruitment videos. They said he traveled to Turkey to find work, not to become a jihadist.

But prosecutors pointed to a letter he drafted to his Egyptian wife, found on his laptop, in which he vowed to fight for Islam and declared he had two options: "Victory or Martyr." The letter was written days before he flew to Turkey, though it was unclear whether he ever sent it.

He also took with him to Istanbul a black facemask, a map depicting Islamic State's strongholds in Syria and a chart of the border crossings between Turkey and Syria.

Pugh served as an avionics specialist in the Air Force from 1986 to 1990 and later worked as an Army contractor in Iraq from 2009 to 2010, prosecutors said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S. Concerned over Saudi Aid Cut, Says Lebanese Army Assistance 'Essential'
[An Nahar] The United States has expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
over a Saudi announcement that it was cutting off $4 billion of aid to the Lebanese army and security forces, and stressed that assistance to the military is "essential" to limit Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
's role.

"We’ve raised our concerns about the reports of aid cutoff with the Saudi authorities. I’m not going to talk about the details of that," State Department Spokesman John Kirby said Tuesday.

U.S. support to the Lebanese army "is important and it’s going to continue," he said, adding that assistance to the military and "to other legitimate state institutions is essential to help diminish the role of Hizbullah and its foreign patrons."

Kirby stressed that Washington doesn't want "to leave the field open to Hizbullah or its patrons. Our assistance to the Lebanese military makes a real difference on the ground against Daesh [Islamic State] and other hard boys."

The military "deserves the support of the international community as well," he told news hounds.

Kirby's comment came after he was asked about a report in The Wall Street Journal that the Obama Administration is pressuring Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
not to take further steps to punish Leb economically in retaliation for the growing political power of Hizbullah in Leb.

Wednesday thirteen suspects in the Bekaa region in two separate operations, according to military statements.

"Following search and investigations, an Intelligence Directorate patrol raided the houses of Ibrahim Ahmed Matar, Ali Ahmed Matar, Hussam Abdo Matar and Mustafa Mohammed Seifeddine in the Bekaa area of Jdeidet al-Fakiha, where it managed to arrest them," an army statement said.

The four were wanted on charges of "smuggling arms, ammunition and military equipment to the turban groups in Arsal's outskirts," the army added.

It said the suspects used "secret compartments inside an Opel car and a Volkswagen car" to carry out their smuggling operations.

"A rocket, a shell, pistols, light ammunition, a large cache of military gear and a BMW car with no legal registration papers" were seized in the raid, the army added.

Separately, an army force arrested nine Syrians and Paleostinians in the Bekaa area of Majdel Anjar for "entering Leb illegally and possessing a car with no legal papers and a number of surveillance cameras," the military said in another statement.

Terror Networks
Names of 22,000 IS members said leaked to news channel
[IsraelTimes] Jihadist group’s recruitment documents include previously unknown jihadis from across Europe, US, Canada

Tens of thousands of documents containing the names, addresses, phone numbers and family contacts of jihadis who joined the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group have been given to Sky News, the broadcaster said Wednesday.

Sky reported that a disillusioned former member had handed over the documents on a memory stick that had been stolen from the head of the group’s internal security police.

The documents are forms that IS recruits had to fill out in order to be accepted into the organization, and contain information on nationals from 51 countries, the broadcaster reported.

"Sky News has informed the authorities about the haul," the news channel wrote on its website. No comment was immediately available from Britannia’s interior or foreign ministries.

Some of the documents reportedly contain the information of previously unknown jihadis located across northern Europe, the United States and Canada, as well as in North Africa and the Middle East, it said.

Richard Barrett, former global terrorism operations director at MI6, wrote on Twitter that the records would shed an "invaluable light" on who had joined IS.

"This is going to be an invaluable resource for analysts," he added.

Copies of the documents broadcast by Sky News showed that recruits would have to answer 23 questions including on their blood type, mother’s maiden name, "level of sharia understanding" and previous experience.

Some of the names in the documents are of fighters who have been already identified, such as Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, a former rapper from west London who once posted an image of himself on Twitter holding a severed head.

Another named is Junaid Hussain, a cyber-operative for IS from the British city of Birmingham who was killed in a drone strike last August, and 21-year-old Reyaad Khan who appeared in a recruitment video and was killed last year.

The documents were obtained from a man who uses the name Abu Hamed, a former Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
member who joined IS.

He stole the memory stick of documents and handed them over in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to a journalist, explaining that he left because Islamic rules had collapsed inside the group.

Hamed claimed the group had given up on its headquarters in the Syrian city of Raqqa and was moving into the desert.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Biden Warns: US Will ’Act’ if Iran Missile Tests Confirmed
[ALMANAR.LB] US Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
The former Senator-for-Life from Delaware, an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body...
said on Wednesday that the United States would take action against Iran if long-range ballistic missile tests Tehran said it carried out were confirmed.

"I want to reiterate, as I know people still doubt, if in fact they break the (nuclear) deal, we will act," Biden said during a visit to Israel and the Paleostinian territories.US Vice President Joe Biden

"All their conventional activity outside the deal, which is still beyond the deal, we will and are attempting to act wherever we can find it."

Iran fired two more long-range ballistic missiles on Wednesday as it continued military tests in defiance of US sanctions and fresh warnings from Washington.

Coming just weeks after the implementation of Iran's historic nuclear deal with world powers, this week's multiple missile tests were described by Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards as a show of force in the face of US pressure.

After similar tests on Tuesday, Washington warned it could raise the issue with the UN Security Council and take further action after US sanctions were imposed in connection with Iran's missile program in January.

The hard-fought deal, which saw international sanctions lifted in exchange for curbs on Iran's nuclear ambitions, did not extend to its missile program.
Biden spoke after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who forcefully opposed the nuclear accord with Iran.

General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, who heads the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' aerospace wing, said the longer-range missiles tested would be capable of hitting the Zionist entity.

LeT comdr, Udhampur attack mastermind among 2 killed
[Daily Excelsior] In a major success against the Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT), security forces today bumped off its top commander and criminal mastermind behind last year’s attack in Udhampur on a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy, Abu Ukasha, and his associate while LeT divisional commander, Abu Dujana, along with 9 other LeT snuffies managed to escape from the cordon.

After a specific input received by the Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmire Police, Srinagar, about presence of 11 snuffies including top leadership of LeT, security forces this afternoon launched searches at Chandipora, Goripora and Wadhakpora villages in South Kashmire’s Pulwama district.

As they were holding the meeting in the Agriculture farm in Wadhakpora in Awantipora area of South Kashmire’s Pulwama district, security forces laid the cordon and conducted searches during which shootout broke out that lasted for several hours.

Security forces cordoned off vast area and had a fierce shootout with the LeT snuffies at Wadhakpora in Awantipora area in which two snuffies were killed. They have been identified as Abu Ukasha and Abu Hafiz. They also recovered two AK-47 rifles, four magazines and two pouches from their possession.

Large number of security forces took part in the operation as the area is vast and has bushes as well. Besides SOG Srinagar, those who were part of the operation include 10 Para, 50, 42 and 55 Rashtirya Rifles of Army, 185, 110 and 18th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), SOG Awantipora and Pulwama.

Abu Ukasha was one of the most wanted snuffies in Kashmire and National Investigating Agency (NIA) had announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head for his involvement in Udhampur attack. He was part of the three snuffies who carried out the attack in Udhampur on BSF convoy last year. One of his associates, Mohammad Noaman was killed and Mohammad Naveed was jugged

in Udhampur but Abu Ukasha managed to return to his base in South Kashmire.

As the security forces were engaged in the shootout with the two LeT hard boys, 9 other LeT snuffies including divisional commander of the LeT, Abu Dujana managed to slip out of the cordon, taking advantage of dense vegetation and bushes in the area.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, the fiddler suddenly struck a sour note. The dancing stopped abruptly. Everyone looked at Bob...
SOG Srinagar and Army today cordoned off Wanihama village of Ganderbal district in the outskirts of Srinagar. SOG Srinagar received a tip off about the presence of two snuffies of Hizbul Mujahideen in Wanihama and cordoned off the area.

As the searches were underway, snuffies opened firing on police leading to a brief shootout. However,

Arabia
Soddys participate in prisoner swap
Saudi Arabia released seven Yemenis in exchange for one of its soldiers, the kingdom's news agency reported Wednesday. It marked the first announced prisoner swap since a Saudi-led coalition of Arab countries went to war against Yemen's rebels nearly a year ago.

The Saudi military and the rebels known as Houthis frequently clash along the kingdom's southern border with Yemen. The statement, carried by the Saudi Press Agency, did not specify if the Houthis had been holding the soldier who was released.

SPA said Yemeni tribal leaders coordinated the prisoner swap that led to the release of Cpl. Jaber Al Kaabi. It also said Yemeni tribal figures helped facilitate the delivery of aid across the border into Yemeni villages.

The statement said the seven Yemenis had been detained in areas of military operations near the border, but did not give details on when the Yemenis and the solider had been detained nor where the exchange took place.

In September, the Houthis released a video purporting to show another Saudi corporal, named Ibrahim Al Hakimi, being held captive.

The Yemeni capital of Sanaa and the northern region of the country where Houthis are in control have reported relative calm in recent days.
