Europe
An Avoidable Catastrophe
h/t Instapundit
...Europe’s migration crisis has mostly been covered from the "human interest" perspective, with the perverse proliferation of tragic images and emotive narratives amplified by social media. This collective content stream has made it seem primarily a humanitarian crisis. But that is false.
Instead, what we are seeing is the unending monetization of human misery, a phenomenon as complete as it is cynical. By necessity, it has been complemented by an infectious institutionalization of irresponsibility--something that has not failed to affect geopolitics. This is why the ramifications of the migration crisis are so serious for Europe, America, and many other countries.
Countless reports have shown ways in which migration is monetized. Everyone gets something: the human trafficking networks that provide transport; the criminal networks that sell forged (and real) travel documents; the governments and humanitarian NGOs that receive handsome donations from both public and private funds; the media that attract huge audiences (and advertising revenue) by publishing images of human despair; the clever villager who sells a bottle of water for fifty cents extra.

Ted Cruz: Closet Pentecostal
Maybe. Maybe not. Here it is for your consideration.
While Ted Cruz proudly proclaims he is an Evangelical Christian, his campaign takes pains to hide the truth that Cruz and his pastor father, Rafael Cruz are Pentecostal Christians, a fact further hidden by having Ted and Heidi Cruz’s belong to the congregation of First Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist church in Houston, as their home church.

Both Cruz’s parents, his father Rafael a Cuban-born immigrant, and his mother Eleanor, born in Wilmington, Delaware, grew up in Catholic families. Both were among the millions of that left the Catholic Church since the 1960s to embrace Pentecostalism, a Christian movement estimated to make up 4.4 percent of the U.S. population, accounting for some 13 percent of evangelical churches in the United States.

Holy Spirit’s "Purifying Fire"

The name "Pentecostal" derives from the feast of the Pentecost, typically celebrated fifty days after Easter, and identified in the Acts of the Apostles 2:1-31 as the day when the Holy Spirit descended in "purifying fire" upon the Apostles of Jesus Christ, inspiring them to go forth from hiding in fear to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Pentecostals believe the Apostles of Jesus were aided by the Holy Spirit’s "gift of tongues," in what Pentecostals consider as "baptism by the Holy Spirit," deriving from 1 Corinthians 12:14, that gave the Apostles the ability to speak in a "God-enabled prayer language" that Pentecostals believe even today allows the unintelligible human utterances of an Pentecostal evangelist to be understood by foreigners who do not speak the Pentecostal evangelist’s language.

Heidi Nelson Cruz, Ted’s wife, is the daughter of Seventh-day Adventist missionaries, explaining why she spent part of her childhood traveling with her parents to places like Kenya. "Speaking in Tongues" Religion reporter Sarah Pulliam Bailey, writing in the Washington Post on March 25, 2015, was of the first to recognize Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign logo and the purifying tongue-of-fire logo used commonly to identify Pentecostal churches.

Here is Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign logo:

Here is the logo of the Church of Pentecost:

The symbol derives from Acts 2:3, writing about the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, "They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them."

Sarah Palin’s nomination as vice president put Pentecostalism into the spotlight, when the press revealed that from the time she was a teenager until 2002, Palin attended a church affiliated with the Assemblies of God that the Pew Research Center in an analysis published on Sept. 12, 2008, described as "the largest Pentecostal Christian denomination in the U.S."

The Pew Research Center went on to note that Pentecostalism "emphasizes such practices as speaking in tongues, prophesying, divine healing and other miraculous signs of the Holy Spirit, which it believes are as valid today as they were in the early Christian church."

"Ted is the anointed one"

Rafael Cruz is a pastor with Purifying Fire International Ministry, although in January 2014, as Ted Cruz was preparing his presidential swing, Rafael Cruz scrapped the group’s website after various blogs began identifying the ministry as rooted in "a radical Christian ideology known as Dominionism or Christian Reconstructionism."

Dominionism calls on anointed Christian leaders to take over government to make the laws of the nation in accordance with Biblical laws. Rafael Cruz, at the Pastor Larry Huch’s New Beginnings mega-church in Bedford Texas, outside Dallas, on Aug. 26, 2012, in a Dominionist sermon proclaimed his son, Ted Cruz, to be the "anointed one," a Dominionist Messiah who would bring God’s law to reign.

At a Dominionist pastor’s meeting held at the Marriott Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 19 and 20, 2013, the following "anointing prayer" was read over.

So to pull all this logic together, God anoints priests to work in the church directly and kings to go out into the marketplace to conquer, plunder, and bring back the spoils to the church. The reason governmental regulation has to disappear from the marketplace is to make it completely available to the plunder of Christian "kings" who will accomplish the "end time transfer of wealth."

Then "God’s bankers" will usher in the "coming of the messiah."

The government is being shut down so that God’s bankers can bring Jesus back. In an editorial published in the Washington Post on Feb. 4, on the heels of Cruz’s victory in the Iowa GOP primary, John Fea of the Religion News Service published an op-ed piece noting the frequent references Ted Cruz makes in stump speeches to his father "the traveling evangelist" Rafael Cruz.

"During a 2012 sermon at the New Beginnings Church in Bedford, Texas, Rafael Cruz described his son’s political campaign as a direct fulfillment of biblical prophecy," Fea wrote. "The elder Cruz told the congregation God would anoint Christian ‘kings’ to preside over an ‘end-time transfer of wealth’ from the wicked to the righteous. After this sermon, Larry Huch, the pastor of New Beginnings, claimed Cruz’s recent election to the U.S. Senate was a sign he was one of these kings."

Fea noted that Rafael Cruz and Larry Huch preach a brand of evangelical theology known as Seven Mountains Dominionism. The name comes from Isaiah 2:2, "Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the Lord’s house shall be established on top of the mountains."

Fea commented that Rafael Cruz believes Christians must take dominion over seven aspects of culture: family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government.

By identifying Ted Cruz as the "anointed one," Rafael Cruz has designated his son as what he believes is God’s choice to lead an evangelical coup d’etat, such that, as Fea notes, "Cruz’s campaign may be less about the White House and more about the white horses that will usher in the God’s Kingdom in the New Testament book of Revelation, Chapter 19."

#12  All Christians believe in the Pentecost. Conservative Christians understand it for what it was. A major festival in Jerusalem where Jewish people from many near by nations and of different languages of those nations came together to celebrate a major feast. The new Christian church was given the power by the Holy Spirit of the Trinity to speak to these people in their own languages of the recent events associated with the Crucifixion and Resurrection and therefore these people in Jerusalem would go back home and spread the news to the whole world. Thus the establishment of the New Covenant and the news thereof to the world.

The tongues thing is a major misinterpretation I don't consider Ted to be of that level of ignorance, as the author wants people to believe.

Obama on Libya Mess - 'Twas Cameron's Fault!
You didn't think Obama was going to take any blame, did ya?
Barack Obama has sharply criticised David Cameron for the UK's role in allowing Libya to become a "shit show" after the fall of the dictator Muammar Gaddafi, in an unprecedented attack on a British leader by a serving US President.
How presidential and diplomatic!
Mr Obama said that following a successful military intervention to aid rebels during the 2011 Arab Spring revolt, Libya was left to spiral out of control -- due largely to the inaction of America’s European allies.

In a candid US magazine interview, Mr Obama said: "When I go back and I ask myself what went wrong... there’s room for criticism, because I had more faith in the Europeans, given Libya’s proximity, being invested in the follow-up."

Singling out the British Prime Minister, he suggested that Mr Cameron had taken his eye off Libya after being "distracted by a range of other things".
"I ran out of gas! A friend came in from out of town! My tux was at the dry cleaners! IT WASN'T MY FAULT!

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel expels terrorist’s family from Jerusalem to West Bank
Consequences.
[IsraelTimes] Father and four siblings of Fouad Tamimi, who shot and maimed two coppers on Tuesday, did not have permission to live in capital

The family of a Paleostinian terrorist who carried out a shooting attack in Jerusalem earlier in the week were expelled from the capital to the West Bank, the Israel Police said Thursday.

Fouad Tamimi seriously injured two Border Police officers, leaving one at death's door, in a drive-by shooting attack on Salah a-Din Street, near Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate, on Tuesday afternoon.

A police check found that Tamimi’s father and some siblings were living in the capital without permits. Haaretz newspaper said Thursday that the killer’s mother, who has Israeli residency, took her four underage children to join her husband and four other offspring.

During the attack, the gunman shot up the officers, striking one in the head. As he attempted to escape the scene, security forces engaged the gunman in a firefight, during which he shot the second officer. Tamimi was then shot and killed by police.

Immediately following the attack, Public Safety Minister Gilad Erdan asked police to look into the legal status of Tamimi’s family, who were living in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Isawiyah.

Police discovered that his parents had applied for permission to live together in East Jerusalem, under an Israeli law enabling Paleostinian families divided by the Green Line to be reunited. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the request had not yet been approved, police said, meaning that Tamimi, his father and some siblings did not have residency status that would enable them to live in Isawiyah.

"[T[hey were staying illegally in Isawiyah and as a result the family members were expelled to the West Bank," the police said in a statement, but did not note exactly where they had been sent. According to Haaretz, the family is now living in the West Bank village of Bir Nabala, some 8 km (5 miles) from Jerusalem.

"I made it clear to police: Whoever is here illegally -- will be expelled," Erdan said in the same statement Thursday. "We will continue to fight against terror with great force, on all fronts, and we will extract a heavy price from those who support, fund, or help terror."

Hundreds of illegal aliens arrested
[Ynet] In the wake of the terror attack in Jaffa carried out by an illegal alien, police tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
more than 250 illegal aliens throughout the country; police state that strong measures will be taken against employers.

More than 250 Paleostinian illegal aliens were arrested throughout the country Thursday by the police, in accordance with a government directive to implement steps to curb and stop the current wave of terror.

Police know that the courts tend to be easy on illegal aliens if they are not involved in criminal activity, so they are now targeting employers for punishment.

This week, the government convened a security meeting in light of the escalating violence, some of has been traced to illegal aliens, such as Tuesday’s deadly terror attack in Jaffa. Among the decisions taken were to close loopholes in the security fence around Jerusalem, build a fence in the area of Taruqumiya (a Paleostinian village northwest of Hebron) and the construction of the area Tarqumyia and promote speedy legislation to punish those assisting or giving lodging to illegal aliens.

Wednesday night police seized hundreds of illegal aliens, most of whom were staying in Israel because they had found a job.

In Holon, three illegal aliens who were renovating an apartment, as well as their employer, were arrested. In Bat Yam, two Paleostinians without work permits were arrested. Another eleven illegal aliens were arrested in Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan. A Bnei Brak business owner was detained for questioning for employing one of them.

22 others were arrested in an improvised residential area near Habesor Stream in the Negev. Intelligence information led Israel police, Border police and volunteers to the site, where they found that the illegal aliens had put up showers, sleeping tents, toilets and a field kitchen.

Five illegal aliens, including two minors were arrested in Kiryat Malachi. They were found at a construction site and were taken in for questioning. One of them was arrested and the others were expelled from Israel.

Police said that their actions against illegal aliens, whether in the past or the present, is meant to strengthen citizens' sense of security. They clarified that strong measures will be taken against employers, and that they will not balk at closing restaurants, construction sites or stores that employ illegal aliens and will file charges and impound vehicles.

US-led coalition forces detained Sulayman Dawud al Bakkar, IS group's head of chemical and traditional weapons manufacturing, during an operation in Iraq in February, Pentagon front man Peter Cook said in a statement.

"We believe that the information we've been able to obtain will allow us to conduct additional operations," Cook said at a news briefing on Thursday. Cook said the intelligence came from "the information we learned from this individual."

Al Bakkar, also known as Abu Dawud, was transferred to Iraqi custody on Thursday, Cook said. He gave details about IS group's chemical weapons facilities and production and the people involved, Cook said.

He said the United States does not believe it has been able to altogether eliminate IS group's chemical weapons capability.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
6 Palestinians trapped, 1 missing, in Gaza tunnel collapse
[IsraelTimes] Authorities in touch with men by phone after Egyptians fill passage with seawater; Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, said to be building ‘mega-tunnels’ into Sinai

Six Gazoo Paleostinians were trapped and one was missing on Thursday after a tunnel caved in, the sixth to collapse since January, a local civil defense official said.

The cave-in was caused by Egyptian flooding of the border zone in its campaign to stop smuggling, the official told AFP.

He described the underground passage from the southern Gazoo town of Rafah into neighboring Egypt as a "trade tunnel."

Israeli officials have said there are dozens of tunnels linking Gazoo to the Sinai Peninsula and used to smuggle goods -- including weapons -- and people in and out of the Gazoo Strip.

A local official confirmed that authorities had spoken by cellphone to one of the men trapped by the tunnel collapse and that rescue efforts were under way.

Tunnels falling in have left 12 Gazooks dead since the beginning of this year.

The news came amid a report that Hamas had begun to dig tunnels that are big enough for weapons-laden trucks to pass through. The Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth daily quoted Egyptian security officials on Thursday as saying that Hamas had started to build "mega-tunnels" more than three kilometers long.

The tunnels, designed to smuggle in arms as well as food and building materials, would compensate for hundreds of smaller tunnels that the Egyptians had either blocked or flooded with seawater, the officials said.

They are designed to bypass the seawater channels used for tunnel flooding and to literally undercut Egyptian efforts to raze all buildings in a roughly one-square-kilometer area aboveground, the report said.

Israeli officials, who said they were unaware of plans to construct such giant tunnels along Gazoo’s border with Israel, have linked many of the recent tunnel collapses to Hamas’s shortage of materials such as wood and cement, needed to strengthen walls of sand, the report said. Hamas has apparently been using fiberglass instead -- despite Israel’s prohibition of its entry into the Strip -- a material that has proven to be too weak to support the weight of the sand, Israeli sources told the paper.

Egyptian officials claimed that over the past few months, Hamas has been supplying rockets and deadly homemade weapons such as explosive-filled solar heating drums to Islamic State

forces of Evil in Sinai for their own war against the Egyptian regime.

Used as roadside kabooms, the adapted drums, which normally hold water, can destroy a tank, as the Israelis discovered several years ago when such a weapon blew up an Israel Defense Forces tank in the enclave.

Hamas has been accused of training and supplying weapons to jihadis in Sinai.

a woman controller of the PAF Badaber attack from the Telaband area of the quiet provincial capital.

Police officials claimed that the woman, Zar Zadgai, has confessed to facilitating the Lions of Islam who launched the attack on the PAF installation.

The security source also claimed that Zadgai has confessed to providing food and empty plastic bottles for storing chemicals to the terrorists.

In wake of the brazen assault, search and strike operations were initiated in Badaber and Matani areas during which police arrested at least 28 suspects, including 8 Afghan nationals.

In what appeared to be a precisely planned and executed attack, Lions of Islam displayed their ability to breach the security of an Air Force camp by carrying out one of the deadliest assaults on a defence installation on the southern fringes of the quiet provincial capital, Dawn newspaper reported.

Twenty-nine people -- among them personnel of the Pakistain Air Force and military and some civilians -- bit the dust and all 13 turbans who had stormed the camp were also killed.

Four pirates killed in Sundarbans ‘gunfight’
[Dhaka Tribune] Four alleged members of a pirate gang, including its ringleader, were killed in a ‘shootout’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Bangladesh Coast Guard in the Sundarbans yesterday morning.

Lieutenant Colonel Faridul Alam, commanding officer of Barisal Rab-8, said they had got information that members of a pirate gang locally known as ‘Nayan Bahini’ were taking preparation to commit a robbery in the area, a joint team of RAB and Coast Guard launched a drive there. 19 fishermen were kidnapped from Barguna’s Patharghata area a few days ago and they were held hostage by Noyon Bahini, said Faridul Alam.

The team reached Kachikhali Chandeshwar area under Shoronkhola upzila, Bagerhat around 6:30am.

Spider senses tingling at the proximity of the joint team members, the pirates shot up them prompting the team members to fire back, triggering a shootout. After 40 minutes’ shootout, the pirates expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

Later, the joint team recovered the bodies of Manir Hossain,25, commander of ‘Nayan Bahini’ and son of Abduk Khalek of Patharghata upazila in Barguna district, and Enam Ahmed,35, deputy commander of the gang and its two members Gias Uddin,25, and Hachan,20, residents of Chittagong.

Eighteen firearms and 450 rounds of bullet were also recovered from the spot. The bodies of the dacoits were sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue. Two cases were filed in this connection.

Earlier, two forest bandidos were killed in a "shootout" with RAB personnel at Tambulbunia canal of Chandpai range of the Sundarbans on December 28, last year.

The RAB members also recovered 17 firearms and 450 rounds of bullets from the forest during the drive.

Despite effort from law enforcment agencies, piracy in the Sundarbans has sharply risen with the killing of several fishermen and around 200 incidents of abduction in the last six months.

7 Kurd kommies killed in Turkey
Seven Kurdish militants were killed in a gunfight in southeast Turkey’s largest city Diyarbakir on Thursday, security sources said.

Turkish authorities announced on Wednesday the end of military operations in the Kurdish Sur district of Diyarbakir (Amed), southeastern the country.

“The military operations in the district ended at 16:00 pm on Wednesday, while curfew is ongoing since the 2nd of December last year,” Chief of staff of the Turkish army said in a statement on Wednesday.

The clash reupted in the city’s Sur district, parts of which have been devastated in fighting between security forces and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants since a two-year-old ceasefire collapsed last July.

The sources said Special Forces police clashed with the militants after they opened fire from a basement in Sur, an area surrounded by UNESCO-listed Roman-era walls, which was placed under 24-hour curfew on Dec. 2.

The army said on Thursday 279 PKK fighters had been killed in operations in Sur since Dec. 17.

Military operations have also recently arrived to an end in other parts of the mainly Kurdish southeast, most recently in the town of Idil, near the Syrian border where 120 PKK fighters were killed in three weeks of fighting there, according to military sources.

More than 40,000 people have been killed since the PKK launched its insurgency in 1984. The group, which says it is fighting for Kurdish autonomy, is labelled as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and European Union.

voiced concerns regarding the growing infiltration by anti-government armed Death Eaters into the government institutions, including the security sectors.

In his remarks during the commemoration of the 5th death anniversary of Mawlana Syed Kheli, the former police chief of Kunduz province, Ahmad Zia Massoud said the anti-government armed murderous Moslem groups have infiltrated in almost all civilian and military institutions of the country in the past 14 years.

HRW slams sentence reduction in brutal murder case of Farkhunda
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
(HRW) slammed the Afghan courts for significant reduction of sentence to 13 men convicted of Farkhunda’s brutal murder in March 2015.

The New York-based rights organization said "It’s a bitter irony that the latest blow to justice for Farkhunda Malikzada occurred on the eve of International Women’s Day."

The Attorney General Office of Afghanistan announced Monday that 17 suspects have been awarded jail terms, which include 20 years term for 3 of the perpetrators, 16 years tem for 13 perpetrators and another perpetrator has been placed in durance vile
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
for 10 years.

"This week, Afghanistan’s Supreme Court granted significant sentence reductions to 13 men convicted of Farkhunda’s brutal murder in March 2015. The men were part of a mob that beat Farkhunda to death in broad daylight in central Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
awhile police stood by and watched," HRW said.

HRW further added that the decision is a reminder of just how badly the Afghan justice system has failed Farkhunda and her family.

"Commuting the four death sentences averts the further cruelty of capital punishment. But it does not bring justice for Farkhunda any closer," HRW said, adding that thirty men were initially charged with a murder that was witnessed by scores of people and video recorded by her killers and bystanders alike.

According to HRW, at every stage of this case the Afghan criminal justice system failed to adequately investigate, hold to account or appropriately punish those responsible.

"The trials of those originally accused were conducted in haste and riddled with procedural errors, with many defendants lacking legal counsel. Police also failed to arrest a number of attackers who are clearly identifiable in video footage of the killing. Of the 19 police prosecuted for failing to intervene to stop the mob, the court lightly disciplined only 11," HRW added.

HRW also added that President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
’s government could still do much more to track down those individuals implicated in Farkhunda’s killing who have so far evaded justice.

Times: Britons among Thousands of Secret ISIL Recruits
More on this story from yesterday.
[ALMANAR.LB] The Times newspaper published Thursday a report about the leak of classified documents from the so-called 'Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
group, revealing the data of thousands of ISIL recruits, including Britons.

"Security services were last night examining files alleged to contain names, addresses and family contacts of 22,000 jihadist fighters, including at least a dozen British recruits," The Times reported.

The leak, according to the daily, was hailed as a severe setback for ISIL, providing vital intelligence on the war effort in Syria and Iraq.

The Times said that security agencies discovered that ISIL established a human resources center to make interviews with recruits and to take private information about them.

The accepted recruits can then choose whether to be jacket wallahs or soldiers, or to be committed to other tasks, it added.

The leaked documents show that ISIL had recruited fighters from 50 countries, 70 percent of whom are Arabs, while most foreigners are from La Belle France, Germany and Britannia.

It is believed that the man who leaked the documents was within the ranks of the so-called 'Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
', then he joined ISIL before fleeing away.

"The group has become under the control of former soldiers of Saddam Hussein's regime, and it is no longer committed to the teachings of Islam," the daily quoted the soldier as saying.

India takes up tunnel issue with Pak, writes strong worded letter
[Daily Excelsior] Deciding not to let Pakistain go unbeat feet from its responsibility and involvement in facilitating digging of tunnel along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector that was detected last Thursday, the Government of India has shot off a strong worded letter to Pakistain asking it to join the joint investigations with the BSF to punish the elements responsible for digging it as this would have resulted into major terror attack(s) against India.

Top official sources told the Excelsior that the issue has been taken up by the Centre Government with appropriate channels in Pakistain after the BSF Headquarters submitted a detailed report highlighting direct involvement of Pakistain in facilitating digging of the tunnel from their side into the Indian territory.

"The BSF Headquarters has also written to the Director General (DG) Rangers to join joint investigations with the BSF on digging of tunnel inside the Indian territory along the IB near Alla Mai De Kothe (AMK) Post in RS Pura sector. The BSF has given all evidence available with it including pictures of the tunnel to prove its point," sources said.

Amphetamines and the Islamic State

[CounterJihadReport] The drug of choice for ISIL members is an amphetamine known as Captagon. A Lebanese Captagon manufacturer who supplies drugs for various groups fighting in Syria says that those who consume the drug 'have a thirst for fighting and killing and will shoot at whatever they see. 'They lose any feeling or empathy for the people in front of them and can kill them without caring at all. They forget about their mother, father, and their families.'
Although US military personnel (usually pilots) utilize "go-pills," I suspect ISIL has more relaxed dosing protocols.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea Fires Missiles, Liquidates South Assets
[ALMANAR.LB] North Korea looked to ratchet up already elevated tensions on the Korean peninsula still further Thursday, firing a pair of short-range missiles and announcing the liquidation of all remaining South Korean assets on its territory.

The moves were a direct response to unilateral sanctions announced by South Korea on Tuesday to punish the North for its January nuclear test and last month's long-range rocket launch.

Military tensions have been on the rise ever since the January test -- the fourth nuclear device North Korea has detonated in defiance of UN resolutions.

The UN Security Council responded with tough, new sanctions, which Pyongyang condemned as a "gangster-like" provocation orchestrated by the United States.

The North also reacted furiously to the start earlier this week of large-scale South Korea-US military drills, threatening pre-emptive nuclear strikes against both Seoul and the US mainland.

The asset seizure announced on Thursday referred to two now-shuttered joint projects, the Mount Kumgang tourism resort and the Kaesong joint industrial complex.

"We will completely liquidate all assets of South Korean firms and related institutions left behind in our region," the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said in statement carried by the North's official KCNA news agency.

UN frustrating repatriation of refugees: Kenya
United Nations agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are frustrating efforts to repatriate Somalia refugees.
Frustration is a U.N. specialty...
Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery yesterday said the refugees were willing to go back to their country but the organisations were frustrating the efforts of transferring them.

“There are big wars there; otherwise many refugees are willing to go back, but the NGOs are not interested because they make a lot of money in the process,” said Mr Nkaisery.

At the same time, the CS said the Government and the Jubaland region administration had identified 1,000 hectares to build a refugee camp inside Somalia.

“The UN and other agencies have set aside Sh10.5 billion for the construction of a refugee camp that can accommodate 50,000 people near Ras Camboni. The building will include schools, health facilities and an airport,” Nkaissery told MPs.

He was responding to a question from Parliament’s Administration and National Security Committee member Mohamed Diriye (Wajir South). He said once the new camp is complete, Kenya will supervise the repatriation of refugees to the new camp.

Kerry Calls Zarif to Protest Iran Missile Tests
[ALMANAR.LB] US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
called his Iranian counterpart on Wednesday to protest Tehran's latest round of ballistic missile tests.

Iran and the United States have no formal diplomatic ties, but Kerry and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif built a close working relationship during negotiations for last year's nuclear accord between Tehran and world powers.

The United States argues that a series of apparent missile tests breach the terms of a UN Security Council resolution and will result in new economic sanctions - either from Washington or the world body.

"If they are confirmed, if they're true, as I said yesterday, we'll take up the appropriate action inside the UN," State Department front man John Kirby warned.

"But I don't want to convey the impression that we are only looking at multilateral or UN possibilities in terms of measures to deal with it."

Veteran Egyptian Diplomat Ahmad Aboul-Gheit Named Arab League Chief
[ALMANAR.LB] Arab foreign ministers Thursday voted to appoint veteran Egyptian diplomat Ahmad Aboul-Gheit to the post of secretary-general of the Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
He succeeds Nabil al-Araby, another Egyptian diplomat, who last month said he would not seek a second term in leading the Cairo-based organization. Al-Araby's five-year mandate ends June 30.

Aboul-Gheit, 73, was the sole contender for the position, and his choice comes at a critical time for the 22-member regional bloc.

Aboul-Gheit served as the last foreign minister under Egypt's president Hosny Mubarak, who stepped down in 2011.

Chiefs of the vaporous Arab League have always been Egyptians since the organization was created in 1945.

The only exception came in 1979 when the headquarters of the organization were moved from Cairo to Tunisia.

Chedli Klibi, a Tunisian politician, was selected for the position at that time.

Shaboobs deny number 3's got whacked in air strike
A senior al-Shabab commander has made a public appearance to deny claims that he and another group leader were killed in US air strikes last week at a training camp in southern Somalia.
"Lies! All lies!"
Washington said on Monday it had carried out several strikes in Somalia’s Hiiraan region, in which it claimed more than 150 of the al-Qaeda-linked group’s fighters had been killed. Somali officials said later on Monday that five al-Shabab commanders had been killed in Saturday’s attack, including Mohamed Mire, the group’s Hiiraan governor, and Yusuf Ali Ugas, al-Shabab’s former Hiiraan chief.

But Mire appeared on Thursday in the village of Buqa Qabe – in the same province the air strikes took place – to dismiss the claims.

“It is all lies. They said I was among those killed. But I’m here and doing well as you can see,” he told a crowd that had gathered to see the public execution of a man the group accused of being a Somali government soldier.
"No one higher than a number 6 was killed. That's a lieutenant in Stratego!"
“It is all propaganda. America is losing this war and that is why they now have to resort to guerrilla tactic,” Mire added, in reference to a Wednesday morning raid on the town of Awdhegle – 50km south of the capital Mogadishu – by joint US and Somali special forces.

AJK man chops off wife's nose, hair 'for honour'
[DAWN] Police in a southern district of Azad Jammu and Kashmire are hunting for a person who chopped off his wife's nose and hair, allegedly in the name of honour.

The accused, Gulfraz alias Billa, cut off the nose of his 24-year old wife, and chopped off her hair before fleeing from the scene, a police official told Dawn.

The incident occurred on March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, in Androt Potha village, some 35 kilometres from Rawalakot.

The victim told the police that her spouse would not let her visit her parents, which would trigger fights between them.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
SHO Thorar Sardar Tariq told Dawn that the accused suspected the character of his spouse.

"It was why they would often quarrel with each other, even though the couple had contracted a love marriage some five years ago," he said.

The victim was in her parents’ home for the past four to five months due to acrimony and was brought back by her spouse on Tuesday after reconciliation.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
after he brought her home he tied her with a chair and cut off her hair and then nose.

As the victim fainted, the accused fled from the scene, fearing she may have died.

Later, her brothers shifted her to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahayan Hospital Rawalakot for treatment.

Doctors said had she been brought to the hospital earlier, they could have stitched back the severed portion of the woman's nose.

Now she will have to undergo a three-stage treatment process, she was told.

SHO Tariq said the accused was on the lam but the police would soon hunt him down.

He said the accused had been booked under sections 337Q, 337V and 292 of the Azad (Kashmire) Penal Code," he said.

"Actually, this crime is dealt with under the law of retaliation, meaning thereby if someone has cut the nose and hair of someone, he too will be penalised with the same treatment," he said.

The police official said it was the first time that such an incident had occurred in Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK).

Cutting off her hair and nose were intended to render her unattractive to other men. Doing the same to a man in that culture would not have the same effect so long ws he could earn a living, which suggeste that other bits that would render him equally unattractive ought to be cut off instead.

Pakistan tells US lawmakers terrorists trying to undo their state
[DAWN] Pakistain has reminded US politicians that gunnies have killed thousands of Pak soldiers and civilians only because the country supports the US-led war against terrorists.

In a letter to a senior Republican Senator, Rand Paul, Pakistain’s Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani referred to a US intelligence document, which quotes the late Osama bin Laden
... who doesn't live anywhere anymore...
as asking his followers to attack the Pak state and it’s military because of their anti-terrorism partnership with the United States.

Senator Paul leads the congressional campaign to block a proposed sale of eight F-16 fighter jets to Pakistain.

He sent a letter to his colleagues earlier this week, claiming that it was "past time" to demand accountability from Pakistain whose "coziness" with gunnies has harmed the US military.

Senator Paul has also introduced a joint resolution of disapproval in the Senate, which may come up for hearing this week.

Last month, the US government approved the sale of the fighter jets, along with radar and electronic warfare equipment, in a deal worth $700 million.

Senator Paul is using the obscure Arms Export Control Act of 1976 to try and stop the sale, labelling Pakistain "an uncertain ally", which could not be trusted with sophisticated US weapons.

In a joint statement with Pakistain last week, the United States stressed the need for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmire issue and called on ‘all parties’ in the region to act with ‘maximum restraint’ for reducing tensions.

But in a statement issued after US National Security Adviser Susan E. Rice’s meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday, the United States also underlined the need for greater cooperation with India for combating terrorist groups operating in Kashmire.

At the White House meeting, Ambassador Rice and Foreign Secretary Jaishankar discussed US-India collaboration against LeT, JeM and other terrorist threats.

"Building on their leaders’ commitment to make the US-India partnership a defining relationship for the 21st century, they agreed to deepen their already close collaboration on these issues," the statement added.

The two officials also noted their preparation for the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit, which would also be attended by Pak and Indian prime ministers.

al-Nusra fighters advance near Hama
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Subsequent to fierce battles with the Syrian regime forces, militants of Nusra Front (al-Qaeda branch in Syria) and allied Islamist rebels seized control of several locations in the central Hama province, local activists reported on Thursday.

Speaking to ARA News in Hama, rights activist Abdul Rahman Taha said the Nusra Front –backed by the Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham and Jund al-Aqsa brigade– carried out a surprise attack on positions for the Syrian army forces on the outskirts of the town of Maan northeast of Hama.

The Nusra Front was able to take over five locations for the regime’s special forces which used to monitor the opposition factions and movements of Islamist brigades on the outskirts of town.

“A number of soldiers from the regime’s army were killed in the attack, while clashes are still ongoing amid Russian aerial bombardment on the Nusra positions in eastern Hama,” Taha reported.

The offensive caused a state of alert in the ranks of the regime’s army in the northern and eastern areas of the province.

Earlier in January, Islamist rebels launched a massive attack on headquarters of the regime’s army in the town of Maan, but the latter was able to repel the attack backed by a Russian air cover.

ISIS executes 3 Kurds in Ninevah
[ARA News] ERBIL – Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed on Thursday three Kurdish men in the city of Mosul, northern Iraq, on charges of “spying” for the Kurdish forces, local sources reported.

The victims were arrested earlier this week in Mosul city of Nineveh province.

After three days of interrogations by jihadis, the ISIS-led Sharia Court convicted them of spying for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces of Iraqi Kurdistan against the ISIS self-declared Caliphate.

ISIS militants publicly beheaded the three young men in the Nabi Younis neighborhood of Mosul on Thursday evening, according to a local media activist and eyewitnesses, who spoke to ARA News on condition of anonymity.

The victims were accused of leaking security information about ISIS movements to the Kurdistan’s Peshmerga army.

The extremist group has used to execute anyone suspected to have relations either with the U.S.-led coalition forces, Iraqi army or the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, especially after dozens of ISIS insurgents and prominent jihadi leaders have been killed in northwestern Iraq.

Over the last two years, hundreds of people have been arrested and executed on similar charges in the ISIS-held territories in Iraq and Syria, including dozens of media activists.

China-Japan-Koreas
Pudgy orders further nuclear tests
North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim Jong-Un has ordered further nuclear tests, state media said Friday, as military tensions surge on the Korean peninsula with South Korean and US forces engaged in large-scale joint exercises condemned by Pyongyang.

Just days after he was photographed posing in front of what state media described as a miniaturised nuclear warhead, Kim said the weapon required further testing. Overseeing a ballistic missile launch on Thursday, Kim ordered "more nuclear explosion tests to estimate the destructive power of the newly produced nuclear warheads," the North's official KCNA news agency said.

Experts are divided as to just how far the North may have gone in shrinking warheads to a size capable of fitting on a ballistic missile -- a major step forward in strike capability that would present a heightened threat to South Korea, other countries in the region and, eventually, the US mainland.

According to KCNA, Thursday's launch of two short-range ballistic missiles, which traversed the eastern part of the country before falling into the East Sea (Sea of Japan), was part of a nuclear strike exercise. The aim was to simulate conditions for "exploding nuclear warheads from the preset altitude above targets in the ports under enemy control," the agency said.

Watching the exercise, Kim reiterated an earlier threat to launch an immediate nuclear attack if the "sabre-rattling" South Korea-US drills should harm "even a single tree or a blade of grass" on North Korean territory.
That would be interfering with dinner, after all...
"I will issue a prompt order to launch attack with all military strike means," he said.

Military tensions on the divided Korean peninsula have been on the rise since the North carried out its fourth nuclear test in January, followed by a long-range rocket launch last month. South Korea and the United States responded by scaling up their annual joint drills, which Pyongyang has always condemned as provocative rehearsals for invasion.

The North's anger has been fuelled this year by reports that the drills included a "decapitation strike" scenario in which the North Korean leadership and command structure is taken out at the start of any conflict. In light of such drills, "our self-defensive countermeasures should adopt a more preemptive and offensive mode," Kim said.

Fighting continues in Yasinovataya as Ukrainian attacks intensify

Shelling and small arms attacks by Ukrainian forces on rebel positions continued Thursday in Yasinovataya, as elsewhere along the western line of contact, Ukrainian forces have intensified their artillery attacks on rebel positions according to Russian language news accounts.

According to a news release posted by the Donetsk ministry of defense, Ukrainian forces have caused more than 400 violations of the ceasefire Thursday. Artillery struck rebel positions in western Donetsk, including at Spartak, western districts of Donetsk city and at the airport, where Ukrainians pounded rebel positions for more than 30 minutes Thursday morning.

Since Tuesday little has changed at Yasinovataya: Ukrainian forces have moved forces including artillery spotters to block two roads leading into Gorlovka, at a road junction, where the rebels maintain a police checkpoint.

According to Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin, rebel positions have not changed since Wednesday with rebel positions remaining static along the western edge of the road junction, but firing on rebel positions remains intense.

Rebel military officials have identified the unit operating in the area as the Ukrainian 58th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade. Apparently, three rifle companies are the units in the van of the attack on Yasinovataya.

But artillery and small arms fire continues, including, charged the rebels, 152mm artillery. So far, no reports have emerged from either side of the use of the 122mm rocket artillery system, the BM-21 Grad (Hail) launcher, which is the preferred artillery platform for either side.

Two separate reports from reserve FSB Colonel Igor Girkin's novorusinform.org news website said that the fighting around the road junction has devolved into small infantry engagements, fighting over single residential buildings and for rooms within those buildings. The water filtration plant, which came under Ukrainian artillery fire in initial reports on Tuesday, according to one report, has been abandoned for now.

Rebels said that 59 artillery shells landed over an period of an hour in the Yasinovataya area overnight, Wednesday to Thursday night, concentrated in the police checkpoint, at a rate of one per minute. They also charge that the Ukrainians are not just firing on rebel troops, but on civilians as well.

Rebel officials say that the Ukrainians are trying to encircle Gorlovka, which is immediately to the north of the contested road junction. A second report in novorusinform.org said that artillery attacks using 82mm mortars continue around Zaiytsevo, which is immediately north of Gorlovka.

According to Rozhin, retired GRU Colonel Igor Bezler, formerly chief of police of Gorlovka and formerly a key commander in the early fighting in the Donetsk and Lugansk in the summer of 2014, indicated in a Live Journal post that the reason the Ukrainians have yet to advance beyond 300 meters from the road was because of fire from rebel 12.7mm heavy machine guns, which can,. he claimed, penetrate medium armor at the range of 500 meters. Rebel reports say that Ukrainian tank gunfire has been used to augment the Ukrainian attack, but in current reports it is unclear if tank gunfire includes 125mm tanks guns or 30mm autocannons.

Wrote Bezler: "Respect your opponent, and never count him dumber than yourself."

According to a Russian writer, Ruslan Yakubov, serving as a militiaman with the rebels, Ukrainians have deployed two volunteer battalions, the Lions Battalion and the Aydar Battalion, both of which are staffed with members of the Right Sektor Ukrainian political party.

Right Sektor has earned them the enmity of the Russian backed fighters, which have gone out of their way to fire on and kill their members.

A report from the Donetsk ministry of defense said that as many as 300 fighters have appeared at the line of contact near Yasinovataya. Another 60 were detected deploying to Volnovakha well to the west of Donetsk city, from Mariupol.

Ukrainian media has been curiously silent on the fighting near Yasinovataya, similar to the Ukrainians' silence during the rebels' Debaltsevo operation.

India-Pakistan
LeT planning fidayeen attack in Kashmir
[Daily Excelsior] After divisional commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT), Abu Dujana, and his associates fled from cordon in South Kashmire’s Pulwama district yesterday, security forces have intensified operations in the area as they have inputs that they are planning a fidayeen attack in Kashmire along the National Highway.

The 55-Rashtriya Rifles of Army, 182 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmire Police, Pulwama, today cordoned off and conducted search operations at Koil, Prichoo and Wagun villages of Pulwama in search of the LeT Death Eaters including Abu Dujana.

Sources said that security forces have intercepted a phone call which indicated that LeT based in South Kashmire is planning fidayeen attack along the National Highway on security forces in Kashmire.

They said that LeT has already conducted recce of an Army camp near Jawahar Tunnel, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 24th battalion at Jawahar Tunnel and one more security installation in South Kashmire along the highway.

These fidayeen are said to part of the group that carried out attack in Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI) Building at Pampore in South Kashmire on the National Highway last month that lasted for three days in which 5 coppers including three Para-commandos of Army were killed and the building suffered extensive damage.

As part of proactive strategy to prevent the strike, Police and Army have established check points at various places along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and other roads so as to prevent movement of these fidayeen. They are conducting searches of all types of vehicles particularly trucks as LeT last year used a truck to ferry fidayeen to Uhdampur where they carried out an attack on BSF convoy.

Security forces were also conducting operations at various places in South Kashmire to put pressure on the holy warriors. Sources said that security forces are taking every input in South Kashmire these days seriously so as to counter the LeT strike.

For last four days police and Army conducted searches at several places in South Kashmire. These operations were conducted at Tulbagh and Patalbagh in Pampore areas near the National Highway by 55- Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmire Police, Pampore; Kaweni in Sangam by SOG and Army, Reshipora and Gowahapora near National Highway and Panzeth in Qazigund area by 9 RR and SOG Kulgam.

Yesterday, they trapped 11 Death Eaters of the LeT including its divisional commander, Abu Dujana, in village Wadhakpora in Awantipora area of South Kashmire’s Pulwama district where they were holding a meeting. Two of their members including a top commander, Abu Ukasha, were killed and others escaped.

Sources said that after the busting of LeT network following Udhampur attack on BSF convoy and killing of LeT commander Abu Qasim last year, LeT under the command of Abu Dujana in South Kashmire has re-established its network and received around a dozen foreign holy warriors, who were planning strikes.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia Seeks $6-8 billion Loan to Shore up State Budget
[ALMANAR.LB] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is seeking a bank loan of between $6 billion and $8 billion in what would be the first significant foreign borrowing by the kingdom's government for over a decade.

Riyadh has asked lenders to submit proposals to extend it a five-year US dollar loan of that size, with an option to increase it, in order to help plug a record budget deficit caused by low oil prices.

The sources declined to be named because the matter is not public.

Last week, Rooters reported that Saudi Arabia had asked banks to discuss the idea of an international loan, but details such as the size and lifespan were not specified.

The kingdom's budget deficit reached nearly $100 billion last year. The government is currently bridging the gap by drawing down its massive store of foreign assets and issuing domestic bonds. But the assets will only last a few more years at their current rate of decline, while the bond issues have started to strain liquidity in the banking system.

London-based boutique advisory firm Verus Partners, set up by former Citigroup bankers Mark Aplin and Andrew Elliot, is advising the Saudi government on the loan, the sources said.

The firm has sent requests for proposals to a small group of banks on behalf of the Saudi Ministry of Finance, the sources said. They added that banks participating in the loan would have a better chance of being chosen to arrange an international bond issue that Saudi Arabia may conduct as soon as this year.

Analysts say sovereign borrowing by the six wealthy Gulf Arab oil exporters could total $20 billion or more in 2016 - a big shift from years past, when the region had a surfeit of funds and was lending to the rest of the world.

All of the six states have either launched borrowing programs in response to low oil prices or are laying plans to do so. With money becoming scarcer at home, Gulf companies are also expected to borrow more from abroad.

In mid-February, Standard & Poor's cut Saudi Arabia's long-term sovereign credit rating by two notches to A-minus. The world's other two major rating agencies still have much higher assessments of Riyadh, but last week Moody's Investors Service put Saudi Arabia on review for a possible downgrade.

#1  Am I imagining things or what? Saudis being hoisted by their own petard? Dropped the price of crude by pumping at max to hurt American frackers and others. Low prices sustained because Iran now back in the market. So to keep up the welfare state the Saudis sell assets to make up difference between lower revenues and expenses. Now they need a bridge loan while they try to sell assets in an orderly way to avoid taking a financial bath.

This veddy interesting. A source of innocent merriment if true.

#2  And with other gulf states in the same boat, they are doomed to a steady decline towards bankruptcy if prices hold. If they decrease production then others will increase production. Imam arrested in Italy, suspected of planning Rome terror attack
Italian counter-terrorist police have arrested a 22-year-old Somali imam and asylum-seeker, for planning a terror attack on the city of Rome as well as “intense and vehement proselytism” among migrants for jihad.
A little young to be a number 3, isn't he?
On Wednesday, police moved swiftly to arrest the man at the “Happy Family” migrant reception center where he was living in Campobasso, in the southern Italian region of Molise, saying they had evidence he intended to leave that very day for Rome where he planned to carry out an attack.

Prosecutors also claim they have “clear technical evidence” indicating that the imam, who told others living at the center that he was a member of the Somali Islamist group al Shabaab, was preparing an attack in Rome. He had been denied refugee status and would have had to leave the migrant center soon.

Just over two months of intense investigation, including the interception of phone conversations and taped footage from a hidden camera placed in the man’s room, allowed the counterterrorist agents ascertain the real extent of his words and intentions.

According to police, in an intercepted conversation the man uttered the phrase, “Let’s start with Italy, let’s go to Rome and start with the station,” referring to Rome’s iconic Termini train station.

“The war continues. Charlie Hebdo was only a foretaste of what is happening now,” he also said, as well as “there’s an easier way: to equip themselves and blow themselves up, that’s the easiest way.”

The man allegedly used his platform as imam to praise last November’s terrorist attacks in Paris and the “martyrdom” of its perpetrators, urging the other guests of the center to join jihad and follow him, first to Rome and then to Syria.

At the end of one service, the imam offered a prayer for the Islamic State and for the fighters who sacrifice themselves for the cause.
Either jug him for 20 years or bind him and toss him into the middle of Puntland...
According to the charges brought against him, the young Somali sang the praises of ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Al Shabaab, in an attempt to radicalize other guests of the reception center to undertake violent actions under jihad. The chief prosecutor of Campobasso, Armando D’Alterio has described his activities as an “intense and vehement proselytism” for jihad against the West.

In one recorded sermon, the imam declared to the other guests at the migrant center:

“This month the Prophet is preparing soldiers against the idolaters, fighting against the enemies of God. So take advantage of this month, and race to be the first. God has ordered us to kill his enemies and make jihad in his name, preach religion and Sharia and punish the sinner.”

Police believe the Rome attack was still in the planning stages, and that the man had not yet acquired the necessary materials to carry it out. They do, however, identify him as “extremely dangerous and determined,” with clear intentions of violent actions.

“The arrest in Campobasso shows that the system of prevention works,” said Italian Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano. “We have a very strict, technically equipped monitoring system in all the centers and places where proselytism can occur and where recruiting could theoretically take place.”

India-Pakistan
Will the state ignore a raped, pregnant 13-year-old?
[DAWN] In Larkana, a 13-year-old girl in Class 4 was repeatedly raped and impregnated by her male teacher.

These are the facts of the case; other details can be inferred.

That the rape over many months led to extreme physical pain to the child, that psychologically the girl was restrained to not report it at school because there was no vigilance, that she was traumatised enough to hide her sickness and grief for over 90 days from even her nearest and dearest.

The girl child, in countries like ours, are not taught to be brave, only the boys are. Unwanted sexual advances can only be thwarted if the girl child has guts.

This would mean that the social conditioning of the child would be to jump off monkey bars, run sprints or attempt seventh-grade math problems in Grade 4. That is all reserved for boys. On the contrary, girls are gauged on how politely they nod.

No surprise then that in our pervasive rape culture, even grown women find themselves in uncharted territory when dealing with a man abusing his position of power.

What makes things worse is the government's callous response to such a national catastrophe. There are no reports in the media of anyone from the provincial government visiting the aggrieved family.

The community blames the victim and the family for not protecting the honour of the girl -- as if honour is some kind of ticket stub or super glue bottle.

The problem is also our terminology when the rape of a minor happens. We shy away from calling it a crime; we call it perversion, for which culturally there is widespread acceptance of the boys-will-be-boys code.

Our schools are supposed to be sanctuaries for the already dropping rates of female students. They are supposed to be places where girls can nurse their tired bodies, overworked through housework, and enrich their minds with the possibilities of a bigger and brighter world.

Instead they are breeding grounds for abuse and oppression.

We must stop shaming the victims and consequently shame the perpetrator. By coming forward, the family of the girl have done just that, but if the case is mismanaged -- the family is under pressure to take the accusation back -- then much will be lost.

Not just the fact that Larkana will be bloodied and scarred but a little child will grow up to know that her state failed her.

As did the Council of Islamic Ideology for declaring child marriages as kosher.

As did the society where child marriages and teenage pregnancies occur frequently.

It's estimated that some 20 per cent of girls in Pakistain are married before they turn 18. Most international (read: human) conventions consider individuals under 18 as children.

The reason under 18 girls are children is not because these years are too little to teach girls about empowerment but also because practically and physically their hip bones cannot squeeze out a child.

Nature abhors children giving birth to children.

Underage marriages are just as crass as dogfights. You sit in the audience as a bloodied show is put on.

Except girls suffer silently as per the manual of the literature and oral tradition stories they are fed, where girls revere women who suffer and idealise women who suffer indefinitely.

Given the low conviction rate of rape in Pakistain, it is heartening to see that a sessions court in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for raping his niece.

In a similar vein, this 13-year-old's rapist must be brought to justice. Her suffering should not be exacerbated with criminal and legal incompetence.

Until she gets justice, her ordeal is one that will haunt this country.

5K Yemeni Republican Guard Soldiers give it up
Jeddah- Over five thousand Yemeni Republican Guard soldiers and officers supporting the ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh have turned themselves in to the National Army of Yemen. Among those who surrendered are 3250 who have arrived at the 4th military district, in preparation for participating at the anticipated Taiz military confrontation against Houthi and pro-Saleh supporting militias.

The battle is expected to take place over the few upcoming days. Moreover, military leaderships are trying to reach senior officials that stood out and abstained from participating in the insurgency.

Commander of the Aden 4th military district Brig. Ahmed Saif told Asharq Al-Awsat that large numbers of soldiers belonging to the Yemeni Republican Guard have fled their boot camps and joined pro-legitimacy zones in their region. It is remarkable that some groups of soldiers and officers have even joined pro-legitimacy forces on field.

The 4th military district took in an approximate 32520 Republican Guard soldiers and officers after they refused to execute orders dispatched by insurgent militias on multiple occasions. Those who have crossed sides are at full readiness to carryout combat orders against Houthis in Taiz’s battlefront and to advance towards other governorates.

Brig. Saif pointed out that the defectors leaving the insurgency are not restricted to one brigade only, several Republican Guard defectors are fleeing from a formation comprising up to 32 different brigades. The event coincides with the escalating disputes between Houthi militias and the Republican Guard leaderships.

Disputes are rising on two issues addressing priorities and capacity leverage leaders on military operations are entitled to. Inner-insurgency conflicts have reached their breaking point. Only last Wednesday did the first round of fire exchange between Houthis and Pro-Saleh supports take place in the Harad District; however, the reasons behind the clash remain unknown. Military sources translate this to be the end of the insurgent alliance which primarily aimed at tearing the country apart and having it dive into pitch-black chaos.

The conflict rising among the militia lines can be taken advantage of, according to 4th district commander Saif. The military deterioration militants are suffering must be faced with immediate full-on

offensive by national forces. Political contact must continue to take place with military officials that have maintained an unbiased stance from the crisis, especially those residing in Sana’a. They have refused to join the militias; however, they should be convinced to join pro-legitimacy forces, Saif siad.

He further added that the conflicts among the insurgency help the pro-legitimacy forces directly on the battlefield. The National Army has yet not faced serious issues on all fronts. The army receives directions from military leaderships and executes them swiftly. The mechanics employed by the National Army has contributed to prevent field failures.

Pakistan should take decisive actions against Haqqani network: Gen. Austin
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Commander of US Central Command General Lloyd J Austin has said Pakistain should "take decisive action" against the Haqqani terrorist network, calling the network as the greatest threat to the US forces in Afghanistan.

During a congressional hearing with the Senate Armed Service Committee, Gen. Austin said "We need Pakistain to take decisive actions against the Haqqani Network (HQN). The Paks are uniquely positioned to counter the HQN, which remains the greatest threat to our forces and to stability in Afghanistan long-term."

Gen. Austin further added that the US is encouraged by some signs from Kabul

Abu Sayyaf prisoners appeal to governments for help securing release
[AA.TR] Three foreigners suspected of being kidnapped by a Daesh [Islamic State]-linked group in the Philippines south nearly six months ago have pleaded for their lives in footage uploaded to the Internet.

A video on the Facebook page of an "Abu Muhammad" on Thursday showed Canadians John Ridsdel and Robert Hall and Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad shirtless and surrounded by gunnies.

Hall identifies their captors as the Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
The three thin, bearded and handcuffed men appeal to their governments for help securing their release, saying that if their kidnapper's demands are not met they will be killed.

"To the Canadian prime minister and to the Canadian people in the world, please do as needed to meet their demands within one month or they will kill me, they will execute us," Ridsel -- a Canadian mining consultant -- pleads as a long haired man holds what appears to be a machete to his neck.

The video is the second to surface since the trio were kidnapped from a resort on Samal Island in Davao del Norte in September with Filipina Marites Flor.

In the first video, the kidnappers demanded P1 billion pesos ($21,500) for each of the three foreigners.

"The Canadian government has got to get us out of here fast," Sekkingstad adds in Thursday's video, saying that they are being held hostage on Sulu Island -- an Abu Sayyaf stronghold in the country’s south.

"This is the last message to families, friends and authorities... follow the negotiations and try to meet their demands or we're all dead," he adds.

Asked by Anadolu Agency to comment on the latest video, Brig-Gen. Restituto Padilla, Sulu Joint Task Force commander, declined saying he was still to see it full.

The Philippines government has repeatedly maintained a no negotiation or ransom policy with such groups.

The Abu Sayyaf -- which has reportedly pledged allegiance to Daesh [Islamic State] -- is also holding a Dutch man kidnapped more than three years ago in Tawi-Tawi and a former Italian priest seized last year in Zamboanga del Norte.

Since 1991, the group -- armed with mostly improvised bombs, mortars and automatic rifles -- has carried out bombings, kidnappings, liquidations and extortions in a self-determined fight for an independent Islamic province in the Philippines.

It is notorious for beheading victims after ransoms have failed to be paid for their release.

Militants attack checkpoint near Libya’s Misrata, air strikes hit Sirte
ISIS militants attacked a checkpoint south of the Libyan city of Misrata on Wednesday, killing three security personnel, a military source said, after an air strike in Sirte killed three children and wounded their mother.

Checkpoints south of Misrata are manned by brigades from the city. The Abu Grain checkpoint, about 140 km (85 miles) west of Sirte, was attacked in the late afternoon, hours after the air strikes, raising the possibility that it was a retaliatory move.

There was no immediate confirmation from officials in Misrata, but forces from the city regularly carry out air strikes on Sirte.

Abu Grain is on the road between Misrata and Sirte, where militants loyal to ISIS took control last year. The militants withdrew after the attack and the situation was under control, the military source said.

War planes, believed to be from Misrata, carried out air strikes at three different sites in Sirte, including near a water plant - where the children were killed - and close to a hotel complex in the city center, the resident said.

Also on Wednesday, a source from Zintan said forces from the town clashed with suspected ISIS militants who had briefly taken control of a major road about 320 km west of Sirte and 200 km south of the capital, Tripoli.

One member of the Zintan forces was injured before the militants retreated, the source said.

ISIS has taken advantage of political and a security vacuum in Libya to establish a foothold in the North African country, carrying out attacks on cities and against oil installations.

Benghazi air strikes tonight while a further mass grave is found

While war planes tonight bombed remaining insurgent positions in Benghazi, the search is on for further mass graves near a key area retaken by the army last week.

Government planes attacked terrorists in Gwarsha and Sabri with one massive explosion in Gwarsha. In response rockets have been fired apparently at random striking Buhdeima, Tabalino and close to Rahabah. It is not yet clear if any casualties were caused. In the last two days of fighting, three soldiers have died.

The initial momentum of the army’s assaul,t which saw the terrorists lose Leithi Hawari and their main supply port at Mreisa, has slowed. A source close to the army has said that IS, Ansar Al-Sharia and their allies are now effectiely cut off from resupply and reinforcements.

Meanwhile Libyan Red Crescent workers are searching for further mass graves in Hawari near the former Rafallah Saiti camp which was a major IS command post. So far two such burials have been found. Yesterday, in a four-hour operation, nine badly-decomposed bodies were exhumed from open ground near the camp and taken away for forensic examination. The suspicion is that the victims were prisoners who were executed summarily.
