Eisenhower had no idea . . .
Several weeks ago I had an online discussion with a colleague about the ethics of abstaining from voting this November, no matter who the nominated presidential candidates turn out to be. However, I long ago decided that voting for president today is an exercise in self deception and that for both Democrats and Republicans (who are together a unified party usually called the Political Class) the Marxist theory of elections is present reality: elections are intended to do nothing more than give the voters the illusion that they actually have a say in how the country is to be run.

But we are long, long past that point. What Eisenhower cautioned about the military-industrial establishment long ago became true for many other government entities and civilian industries. That is, there are greatly overlapping Venn diagrams of far more than just the Pentagon and defense industries.

No wonder that Americans have lost confidence in everything. Here is one of many excellent reasons, provided by US Senator Mike Lee:

Behold my display of the 2013 Federal Register. It contains over 80,000 pages of new rules, regulations, and notices all written and passed by unelected bureaucrats. The small stack of papers on top of the display are the laws passed by elected members of Congress and signed into law by the president.
That is why come November, you can "Vote all you want. The secret government won’t change. The people we elect aren’t the ones calling the shots, says Tufts University’s Michael Glennon"

#1  Note well they always skip over the following from Eisenhower's speech -

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.

In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present

and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientifictechnological elite.

Undocumented Driver Gets Federal Charge Tacked on for Three Deaths
A federal charge has been filed against the illegal immigrant who is accused of causing a triple-fatal accident near Wylie [TX] two weeks ago.

According to law enforcement officials, Margarito Quintero, who already facing a state charge for the March 31st accident that killed a Nevada [TX] Firefighter and his two kids, now faces an additional federal charge.

A complaint filed in Sherman [TX] federal court says Quintero was illegally in the country when he was behind the wheel of a van that crossed Highway 78 causing the head-on wreck that killed the three family members. Quintero had been deported once before in 2008, but he illegally came back.
So he's got two voter registration cards?
According to Department of Public Safety records, Quintero did not have a valid drivers license when he caused the deadly accident.
He didn't have two Wheaties boxtops? How about the two voter ID cards?

Koshinan: Reporting Illegals Would '€˜Discourage' Them from Paying Taxes
[PJ] WASHINGTON -- IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told a congressional committee Wednesday that a flat tax would save the IRS "a lot" of money in its annual budget, calling it a "sea change" in the way the agency would operate.

Koskinen also explained that every individual who files a tax return using an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) and not a Social Security number is not an illegal immigrant.

He cautioned the committee that reporting illegal immigrants to other federal agencies would "discourage" them from paying taxes.

According to the IRS website, the agency "issues ITINs to foreign nationals and others who have federal tax reporting or filing requirements and do not qualify for Social Security numbers (SSNs). A non-resident alien individual not eligible for a SSN who is required to file a U.S. tax return only to claim a refund of tax under the provisions of a U.S. tax treaty needs an ITIN."

Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) asked Koskinen if he thinks the U.S. has a tax system that treats individuals fairly.

#3  It beggars the imagination to hear a government official condone illegality because enforcement of the law by aiding Immigration authorities would keep the illegal from paying taxes. 47% of tax filers at the bottom of the income ladder pay no federal tax and many actually get money in the form of the tax credit. Merkel Kowtows To Erdogan Authorizes Prosecution of Anti-Erdogan Comedian

#1  Let's see if I have this straight:
1) She invites a bunch of terrorists into the country amongst a bunch of refugees because she wants to stand by 'European values'.

2) She hands an anti-Erdogan comedian over to the wolves even though it's against European values.

Which suggests she regrets decision #1, is forced to stem the flow to mitigate the damage by working with Erdogan, and she has to violate 'European values' to do it.

All this could have been avoided by listening to a bunch of realists' racists' opinion that this was stupid to begin with.

Maybe next time.

#2  Merkel's actions make sense if one accepts the hypothesis that she's returned to her unorthodox and theocratic communist roots and now intends to inflict maximal damage on the West.

The Merkel-Erdogan deal btw does nothing to stem the flow. 'Refugees' selected by Erdogan will be airlifted from Turkey to Germany directly, rendering ineffective the closed borders of Macedonia et al.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Congressman Lamborn(R) on the house floor called for impeachment of IRS Commissioner John Andrew Koskinen
Last night, on the House Floor, I called for the impeachment of IRS Commissioner John Andrew Koskinen.

This effort was initiated to hold the IRS Commissioner accountable for allowing documents to be destroyed and for providing misleading statement to Congress in the wake of IRS targeting of conservative organizations. I am a proud cosponsor of the resolution and I urging my colleagues to join me in supporting this important legislation.

As it has become abundantly clear, Commissioner Koskinen has failed the American people by stonewalling congressional investigations into the IRS targeting scandal. Conservative organizations were intentionally targeted by our federal government simply because they believed and expressed a message that was in opposition to this Administration. While I disagree with many on the Left, I would never seek to threaten, by means of governmental coercion, to take away their freedom of speech.

Moreover, what is truly disturbing about the IRS scandal is that Chairman Koskinen has violated the public trust. As Commissioner, Mr. Koskinen failed to comply with a congressional subpoena, failed to ensure evidence was preserved, failed to testify truthfully, and failed to notify Congress when he learned thousands of emails were missing.

Our constituents expect Congress to exercise oversight of this Administration and to demand accountability. We know the IRS Commissioner cannot be trusted. Impeachment would help rectify the situation, and would go a long way towards showing the American people that we are serious about our constitutional duties.

Impeachment is the appropriate means to restore balance between our branches of government. The Framers included the impeachment mechanism in the Constitution for precisely this scenario, where an Executive Branch official who violated the public trust will not resign or otherwise be removed from office.

I have always liked Lamborn as he has always been solid and stood with his district even when the Republicans went the other way over the cliff. I doubt this will go anywhere, but the man isn't afraid to speak his mind. Just hope his tax returns are spotless.

Caribbean-Latin America
Nick the Mad threatens to cut opposition legislature's term
Venezuela's insane socialist leader Nicolas Maduro threatened on Thursday to seek a constitutional amendment to slash the opposition-led legislature's term and vowed to lead a "revolution" should his foes wrest him from the presidency.

The socialist leader's strong words deepened the already bitter political standoff in the OPEC member nation since the opposition coalition won control of the National Assembly in a December vote and vowed to seek Maduro's exit this year.
It's time for the knife-fight to begin...
During a rally, pro-government constitutional lawyer Hermann Escarra proposed that Maduro seek a constitutional amendment to reduce the assembly's term from five years to 60 days.

"I'll look at it very seriously," Maduro said, to cheers from several thousand red-clad supporters demonstrating against an assembly law intended to free jailed opposition activists. "And if I see the possibility of clearing away coup-mongering and the use of the National Assembly, I myself would activate it if the people support me."

In an overt conflict of powers, the government-leaning Supreme Court has been shooting down assembly motions, while the national election board is dragging its feet over the opposition's desire to hold a recall referendum this year.

Should Maduro propose a constitutional amendment to shorten legislators' term, that too would have to go to a national vote.

Maduro, 53, who won election in 2013 to succeed his mentor Hugo Chavez, constantly accuses the opposition and the United States of seeking a coup. He also accuses his foes of an "economic war", though critics say failed socialist policies are at the root of Venezuela's deep recession and acute shortages.

"I'm going to say something strong," Maduro added.

"If they one day win power due to their non-conventional, economic war, due to violence, then the Bolivarian revolutionary movement and the Venezuelan people would take to the street in general insurrection ... Another revolution would start, I tell the oligarchy. And I would lead it!"
I certainly hope you do. In a bright red uniform...
Earlier in the day, government supporters and opposition activists exchanged punches and kicks, and stones were thrown, when coalition leaders gathered at the election board to seek paperwork for requesting the recall referendum.

The opposition said a journalist and legislator were injured, and blamed an "ambush" by Maduro supporters trying to derail a recall referendum.

"The government is not illiterate, it can read the polls, it knows it wouldn't win any election - not even a carnival queen contest!" coalition head Jesus Torrealba said.

Kim' B'day Present Deviates from Path
To mark the 104th anniversary of the birthday of the country's "eternal president," Kim Il Sung, North Korea launched a missile from its East Coast at about 5:30 a.m. local time. But it deviated from a "normal" trajectory, an official from South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters in Seoul.

But South Korea's military is still on high alert. "We are preparing against the possibility that the North could carry out heavyweight provocations at any time, including the fifth nuclear test," a military official said.

North Korea has displayed the Musudan at its military parades and is believed to have supplied assembly kits for the missile to Iran, but it had never tested this model of missile before.

US Defense Contractor 'Triple Canopy' Turns Up In Panama Papers
[Daily Caller] Major U.S. defense contractor Triple Canopy has just been implicated in the Panama Papers, a trove of 11.5 million leaked documents on offshore tax structures from the fourth largest law firm in the world.

Ignacio Balderas, the former CEO of Triple Canopy, in 2010 told a watchdog commission created by Congress that defense contracting companies are an important aid to the Pentagon because they provide extra accountability, Fusion reports. In other words, U.S.-owned companies involved in the contracting industry are far superior to foreign-owned companies, since the latter "avoid paying U.S. taxes, avoid U.S. criminal investigations and jurisdiction, and avoid having to appear before Congress."
'Appear before Congress'....to possibly include the Senate Select Committee On Intelligence (SSCI) or the House Permanent Select Committee On Intelligence (HPSCI). Taxes are of little concern however, those are all factored into the contract.
The only problem is that two weeks before Balderas’ testimony before the commission, Triple Canopy took over Edinburgh International, using a shell company Trifecta International Holdings to make the purchase. With this business structure intact, Triple Canopy had the ability to step around accountability measures that apply to U.S. companies, an analysis from Fusion reveals. Edinburgh International is based out of Dubai and runs several of its operations through shell companies in the British Virgin Islands.

Mossack Fonseca, the law firm which suffered the leak of 11.5 million documents, registered those companies. Police have since raided the law firm.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Why Vladimir Putin's People Love Him
h/t Instapundit

Putin curbed exploitative leaders, fought Communism, and protects his country's interests above all others

By certain traditional measures, Russian President Vladimir Putin is the pre-eminent statesman of his time.
Neh, Bibi does more with less
When he took power in the winter of 1999‐2000, his defenseless and bankrupt country was being carved up by its new kleptocratic elites, in collusion with its old imperial rivals. Much as Kemal Ataturk had done in Turkey seven decades earlier, Putin rescued a nation-state from the ruins of an empire and gave it coherence and purpose. He disciplined his country's unaccountable plutocrats, restored its military strength, and refused, with ever-blunter rhetoric, the subservient role in an American-run world system that foreign politicians and business leaders had drawn up for Russia. His voters credit him with having "saved his country." So do many of his Russian detractors, although they worry he has stayed in power too long.

...But traditional measures of statesmanship have, since the end of the Cold War, cut little ice with Western leaders and the pundits who judge them. We have rebaptized as "human rights" the system of identity-group and interest-group politics by which America is ordered, and by which America orders the world.
It ain't America anymore---the ruling class takes its clues from Tranzi central of EU. And, if one can imagine such a thing, is even more incompetent
Putin, who plays by an older set of rules, is cast as a brigand or a desperado. Or even as a madman.

#1  You have to be realistic about the guy. He is a ruthless dictator and he is not our friend. But unlike his counterpart in Washington DC, he does seem to act in the best interests of his country. If our president was smart and acting in the best interest of our country he would try to find areas where we could agree and cooperate with the Russians instead of seeking confrontation over places like Crimea and eastern Ukraine where we have no interest.

Chopped-up tycoon linked to bribery scandal in China
A Chinese tycoon found butchered last year in his West Vancouver mansion has been linked to a government corruption scandal in southwestern China.

The scandal, which led to a 19-year jail term for Yunnan province official Lin Yunye, is also tied to a Chinese couple who at one time owned an abandoned multimillion-dollar Vancouver home.

Yunye was jailed last November for selling $234 million in state mining assets to a number of businessmen from whom he accepted tens of millions in bribes — including gold bars, luxury watches and rhinoceros horns.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
New Aleppo assault casts fresh cloud over Syria peace talks
[DNAINDIA] Syria's army backed by Russian warplanes launched an assault north of Aleppo on Thursday, threatening to block a vital rebel route into the city in fighting that has cast new clouds over Geneva peace talks.

Syria's recent upsurge in fighting, particularly around the northern city of Aleppo, has proven the most acute challenge yet to a cessation of hostilities deal agreed in February and soured an already bleak mood as opposing sides gather in Geneva.

Outlining its bargaining position, the opposition High Negotiating Council (HNC) told Rooters it would be willing to share equally in a transitional council with the government, but repeated its rejection of a role for Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Light of the Alawites...
The Syrian government, buoyed by Russian and Iranian military support, has ruled out any discussion of the presidency. Moscow and Tehran have also rejected what they see as Western efforts to predetermine Assad's future.

The warring sides have sought to portray the fighting as the fault of the other, pushing towards breaking point a ceasefire that was designed to improve the political climate ahead of the Geneva talks. In addition to the Aleppo assault, heavy government air strikes were reported north of Homs, where a doctor described the most intense government bombardment since the cessation of hostilities agreement took effect.

In Aleppo, government forces and their allies were focused on the area around Handarat Camp, overlooking an important access point held by rebels into the city, which is split into zones held by the government and opposition.

"The escalation started at night. The area is of great importance. If the regime advances, this will tighten the grip on Aleppo," said Abdullah Othman, head of the politburo of the Levant Front rebel group.

Adnan Abdihamid Farah pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Minneapolis to providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Three other counts were dropped.

Farah faces up to 15 years in prison but avoided a possible life sentence.

The 20-year-old Farah allegedly communicated with an Islamic State member in Syria.
The Star Tribune had the story of his arrest with five others in April, 2015 here, and the local CBS station reports on how one of the group changed his mind and turned informant here.

Another Iranian commando reportedly killed in Syria
Hamdollah Bakhshandeh, a member of Iranian Army has been reportedly killed in armed clashes with Syrian opposition groups. He is the fifth member of Iran's Army who has been killed in Syria, Fars news agency reported.

Iranian officials have recently confirmed that four members of the army's commandos were killed in Syrian clashes.

Earlier in April, Brigadier-General Ali Arasteh, an Iranian Army commander, said the Army has deployed a group of its commandos to Syria for providing advisory support for President Bashar Assad's army in the fight against terrorist groups.

Iranian officials have constantly said that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) provides the Syrian army with advisory support in fight against terrorist groups. However, for the first time in early April reports broke regarding the involvement of Iranian Army forces in Syria.

GENEVA (UN) – The day after a new round of intra-Syrian talks began in Geneva, the United Nations envoy mediating a solution to the crisis reported Thursday on the latest humanitarian assessment, stressing the need for improvement amidst a picture that is frustrating but not “completely negative.”

Security officials in the north of Afghanistan said that insurgents suffered major casualties in the clashes and that troops are trying to prevent the insurgents from fleeing the area.

"Reinforcements should be sent to the province because there are clashes in the center of Sar-e-Pul," a member of the provincial council, Asadullah Khoram said.

He said that clashes also took place along the Jawzjan and Sar-e-Pul highway on Wednesday night, which resulted in the death of one civilian and three military soldiers. Three other civilians were injured.

Afghanistan
15 Afghan soldiers die as violence surges across the country
At least 15 Afghan soldiers lost their lives during the counter-terrorism operations being conducted across the country amid surging violence.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the soldiers were martyred in the past 24 hours as they were suppressing the anti-government armed militants.

“The Afghan National Army (ANA) forces are prepared for all kinds of devotion and with all force to maintain security and comfort for the people of Afghanistan,” a statement by MoD said, adding that 15 Afghan soldiers were martyred during counter-terrorism operations against the internal and foreign terrorists.

According to a statement by MoD at least 110 militants were killed and 124 others were wounded as a result of the clearance operations in the past 24 hours.

The statement further added that the operations were conducted in Jawzjan, Kunar, Baghlan, Badghis, Badakhshan, Ghazni, Paktika, Maidan Wrdak, Kandahar, Zabul, Sar-e-Pul and Helmand provinces.

There has been a sharp rise in the casualties of the Afghan national security forces since they took full control of the security responsibilities from the coalition forces at the start of last year.

According to the earlier estimates by security officials, the Afghan army deaths stood at 4 service members daily on average which is mainly caused due to improvised explosive device (IED) attacks.

The Afghan forces have increased counter-terrorism operations to suppress the anti-government armed militant groups who are preparing to step up attacks as they announced their spring offensive earlier this week.

30 local kops join Taliban in Baghlan
At least 30 Afghan Local Police (ALP) soldiers have reportedly joined the Taliban ranks in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan.

Sources have said the ALP forces have joined the Taliban ranks in Dand-e-Ghori district where heavy clashes have been reported among the Taliban and Afghan security forces.

The sources speaking on the condition of anonymity said the ALP forces have also taken with them 25 weapons.

The Taliban militants group has commented regarding the report so far which comes as local officials have said the Taliban insurgents have launched coordinated attack on Dand-e-Ghori.

According to the earlier reports, the Taliban insurgents have managed to take control of certain areas in Dand-e-Ghori which is located close to Pul-e-Khumri city, the provincial capital of Baghlan province.

The provincial police chief, General Mohammad Ewaz Naziri, said clashes continued between the militants and Afghan forces but he did not confirm the fall of area to the Taliban militants.

The Afghan forces retook full control of Dand-e-Ghori from Taliban insurgents earlier last months which followed weeks after the area was in control of the militants.

The security situation in Baghlan has sharply deteriorated amid rampant Taliban-led insurgency across the country, including northern provinces.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Trump Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski Will Not Be Prosecuted For Alleged Incident With Reporter
Fields gets her scalp: Publicity ahead of a book release in June. I denounce myself.
[ABCNEWS.GO] Donald Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, will not be prosecuted for simple battery following his altercation in March with former Breitbart news hound Michelle Fields, a source familiar with the investigation confirms to ABC News.

The state's attorney in Florida has decided not to move forward with criminal charges, says the source, adding the decision is expected to be formally announced Thursday.

Lewandowski was charged with the misdemeanor March 29 stemming from a March 8 incident at the Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida, police said.

"Lewandowski then grabbed Fields’ left arm with his right hand, causing her to turn and step back," according to the police report, describing video of the incident. "Based on the above-described investigation, probable cause exists to charge Corey Lewandowski."

At the time, the Trump campaign released a statement asserting Lewandowski’s innocence.

"Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge," read the statement. "He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated."

When Lewandowski was charged on March 29, he was released with a notice to appear in court on May 4.

The Trump campaign and Lewandowski's legal team did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

#3  You cost me a Nation

You lost that Nation long before the Donald. Your last real opportunity was when the Wall came down and you didn't make the apologist and domestic agents pay dearly for backing the other side. The Right was just as guilty as the Left in playing the 'virtue signalling' game in that one. You allowed the 'kinder gentler' RINOs to take over a 'big tent' party, thus making it the party of the old Liberals who had lost their party to the socialists. Too much money and power became at stake, too little action in truly reducing government, and now its all past beyond the point of amicable resolution other than submission.

#6  Except for comment 5 (you got it right, sir), what is wrong with your dummies? Haven't you seen the video that clearly shows Fields skirting the Secret Service detail and grabbing Trump? She should have been arrested and charged with assault.

#8  Are you blind? This would have gone away with an apology the day after it happened. Instead we had this circus from Lewandowski and Trump accusing her of all sorts of things. Hell on Hannity last night Corey contradicted himself in a single minute, claiming he didn't even really remember the incident before describing it in detail including the words said.

It's not even the grab, it's the piss-poor arrogant cover-up that nobody believed but stooges.

Should Michelle have been charged? Perhaps, but you'd have to charge Corey with Battery as well. Any sane person would have stepped in front of her, or put a hand on her shoulder to indicate enough after a mumbled, "no comment ma'am".

It's what happened after and the smearing that gets me. Trump has thinner skin than Obama does! And it's looking like a defamation suit, with all the contradicting and false statements from Team Trump, might have legs to stand on when it comes to Lewandowski.

And all the Death threats, Fields fleeing her home, hell just look at her twitter feed! This entire response has disgusted me. There's a damn good reason trump is 78% unfavorable with women.

Federal judge calls IRS untrustworthy in tea party case
[WASHINGTONTIMES] A federal appeals court judge dubbed the IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
not trustworthy during oral argument Thursday as he and his colleagues tried to figure out whether tea party targeting is still going on.

Dozens of groups say the IRS not only treated them badly in the past, but the agency continues to subject them to special monitoring and intrusive scrutiny, damaging their reputation among potential donors and making it more likely the groups will face an audit because of their political beliefs.

The IRS insisted it has retrained its employees and instructed managers to behave better, but the panel of judges on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia did not seem convinced.

Somali pirates jailed by French court for fatal hijacking
Seven Somali pirates were sentenced to between six and 15 years in prison by a French court on Wednesday for the hijacking of a French yacht and killing of its owner in the Gulf of Aden in 2011.

Christian and Evelyne Colombo were on a round-the-world trip when their “Tribal Kat” catamaran was hijacked by pirates in the Arabian Sea. Christian was killed and his body dumped in the water, while his wife was held hostage for 48 hours before being rescued by the Spanish military.

Two members of the gang identified as the “recruiters”, Farhan Abdisalamn Hassan and Ahmed Abdullahi Akid, were handed 15-year sentences. Farhan Mohamoud Abchir, a minor at the time of the hijacking who has developed schizophrenia while in prison, according to his lawyer, was given the lightest six-year jail term. The prosecutor had sought terms of up to 22 years for the seven.

“It’s hard to understand the range of the penalties, the motivations of the court. Fifteen years is a very heavy sentence,” said Augustin d’Ollone, lawyer for Akid Abdullah.

ISIS executes its own Top Turban in spying
[ARA News]. ERBIL ــ Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Thursday executed one of its prominent leaders on charges of high treason in the city of Jarablus in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo.

ISIS military commander in Jarablus, Abu Mustafa, was charged of high treason by the Sharia Court for attempting dissidence, local sources reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Jarablus, media activist Nasser Taljbini said that ISIS beheaded Thursday its 40-year-old military commander Abu Mustafa in front of dozens of people in a public square in the city of Jarablus northern Aleppo on charges of fleeing the group’s ranks.

According to ISIS regulations, dissidence attempt from the groups ranks is regarded a ‘high treason’ and the perpetrator is being publicly executed.

“The ISIS-linked Hisba Police arrested Abu Mustafa two days ago near the Turkish border in the western countryside of Jarablus, while trying to flee to Turkey,” Taljbini reported.

“After his arrest, the Sharia Court decided to behead the man in public on charges of ‘high treason’,” eyewitnesses told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Local sources confirmed that another top leader of ISIS from Jarablus was killed during confrontations with Syrian opposition factions in Aleppo’s northern suburbs.

On Wednesday, the ISIS senior leader, Abu Hadid, was killed along with six other militants during clashes with Syrian rebels in Aleppo’s north on the outskirts of the strategic town of al-Raee, Taljbini told ARA News.

He pointed out that the corpse Abu Hadid and his companions were brought to Jarablus on Thursday, while the place of their burial remains unspecified.

Over the past few months, hundreds of ISIS militants and military commanders have tried to escape the group’s ranks and head towards the European countries, especially after the US-led coalition forces intensified airstrikes on financial resources and command centers of the militant group.

Also, Jarablus is one of the main targets at the moment for the Kurdish YPG forces. If they were able to retake it, they would be blocking one of the main routes in the face of foreign militants who continue to cross from Turkey into Syria in order to join their alleged Caliphate, according to military experts.

Sharon Stone on Bernie: "How Much Acid Has This Guy Taken?"
[Hollywood Reporter] Like many in Hollywood, the actress endorsed Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton in 2008. Now eight years later, Stone feels it's the female candidate's time. "Look at everything she's been through. Why would she have been secretary of state during the most demanding and dangerous time this country has seen since World War II?"

Stone tells The Hollywood Reporter. "She could go retire somewhere great, write a book, relax a little. It's not like she needs the $200,000 or whatever you make being president. She just cares about our country."

Stone, who headlined TNT's short-lived action drama Agent X last year, felt strongly that Clinton needed to serve as secretary of state before she could be president. "And she knows that," says the Basic Instinct actress, insisting the two have a "frank" and "open" relationship. "She showed such grit and grace as secretary of state, such steely calm and humor in those hearings. That's what it actually takes to be president. It takes a lot of friggin' mettle. It doesn't take a lot of flamboyancy or that George W. Bush let's-go-out-for-a-beer personality."

Obama Admin Open to U.N. Measures Focused on Israel
[FREEBEACON] The B.O. regime says it "will carefully consider" what are expected to be a series of United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
Security Council Resolutions aimed at Israel in the coming months, generating accusations in Congress that Washington is preparing to abandon Israel at the U.N., according to State Department officials and congressional sources apprised of the measure.

U.S. officials told the Washington Free Beacon that no decisions have been made yet about several draft resolutions being informally circulated in Turtle Bay, but that the administration is open to considering future drafts.

"We will carefully consider our future engagement and determine how to most effectively advance the objective we all share in achieving a negotiated two-state solution," a State Department official not authorized to speak on record told the Free Beacon.

The administration has struggled this week to publicly articulate a consistent position on the issue.

State Department deputy front man Mark Toner told news hounds on Monday that the administration is open to U.N. action on Israeli settlements, but on Tuesday declared that the administration is flatly "opposed" to such action and would likely veto an Israel-focused measure.

Anne Patterson, an assistant secretary in the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, testified to Congress on Wednesday that the administration has not yet committed to opposing future resolutions.

Sharia police preacher faces terrorism charges
[THELOCAL.DE] A fundamentalist Muslim preacher who started a “sharia police” force in western Germany has now been charged with aiding a terrorist group in Syria, prosecutors announced on Tuesday.

Sven Lau, whose religious enforcement group in the Rhineland city of Wuppertal caused national and international outrage in 2014, is accused of obtaining night-vision equipment for a Syrian jihadist group known as Jamwa, which has been linked to Isis.

He was a “point of contact for those willing to fight and travel abroad, especially from the Salafist [fundamentalist] scene in the Düsseldorf metropolitan area,” a statement from federal prosecutors in Karlsruhe read.

Lau, a German convert to fundamentalist Islam, also allegedly supplied the Jamwa group with three night-vision devices in 2013.

He made several trips to Syria himself and aided two men in their travels to the war-torn country, the statement continues.

While parts of Jamwa have since fought against Isis, prosecutors say that the branch Lau supported remains an ally of the notorious terror group.

Charges were filed at the upper state court in Düsseldorf on April 8th, almost five months after Lau was arrested in Mönchengladbach.

[FOXNEWS] Environmentalists backing a Big Tobacco-style government probe of oil companies plotted their strategy for targeting companies like ExxonMobil at a closed-door meeting in Manhattan earlier this year, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The report sheds new light on an evolving campaign against the fossil fuel industry that has drawn in several attorneys general who are now investigating ExxonMobil.

According to the Journal, the January meeting in Manhattan was a key moment and brought together several veteran environmental activists to discuss how to "establish in [the] public’s mind that Exxon is a corrupt institution that has pushed humanity (and all creation) toward climate chaos and grave harm."

Critics described the meeting as proof of "collusion" in the campaign against ExxonMobil.

That push has developed as several AGs -- most recently in Massachusetts and the U.S. Virgin Islands -- have launched their own investigations into claims that oil companies misled the public about the risks of global warming.

The company went to court Wednesday to try to block a subpoena by the Virgin Islands attorney general.

"The chilling effect of this inquiry, which discriminates based on viewpoint to target one side of an ongoing policy debate, strikes at protected speech at the core of the First Amendment," the company’s court filing said, according to the Journal.

Britain
Corbyn Makes U.K. Labour Case to Stay in EU, `Warts and All'
[BLOOMBERG] U.K. opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn said his Labour Party is "overwhelmingly" in favor of staying in the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, making his most detailed intervention to date before voters head to the polls on June 23 for a referendum on Britannia’s membership.

Britannia will be better placed to deal with issues from climate change and tax avoidance to terrorism and the refugee crisis by staying in the 28-nation bloc, Corbyn said Thursday in a speech in London, as opponents of membership braced for a possible legal challenge that could distract from their campaign.

"Collective international action through the European Union is clearly going to help meeting these vital challenges," Corbyn said. "The Labour Party is overwhelmingly for staying in, because we believe the European Union has brought investment, jobs and protection for workers, consumers and the environment, and offers the best chance of meeting the challenges we face in the 21st century."

The Labour leader made the case to remain as Leave.EU, one of the groups opposing British membership, was scheduled to make an announcement at noon on whether it will seek a legal challenge of the Electoral Commission’s decision to designate another organization, Vote Leave, the official lead campaigner. Arron Banks, a co-founder of Leave.EU, said Wednesday that he might seek a judicial review of the decision and warned it could lead to the vote being delayed until October, a claim rejected by the prime minister’s office. The noon deadline passed without any announcement.

Turkey Calls for Muslim Anti-Terrorism Body at OIC Meeting
[ABCNEWS.GO] Muslim nations have agreed to establish a The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
-based body to fight terrorism, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said Thursday as he urged the countries' leaders to examine the root causes of the migration crisis.

Addressing the 13th summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, Erdogan stressed his belief that terrorism is the largest problem confronting the Muslim world.

To effectively combat terrorism, he urged Muslim leaders to overcome their differences and tackle the problem from the security and financial tracks. He called for support for a Saudi-led initiative for an Islamic alliance against terrorism and to "turn it into an effective body."

"Instead of waiting for other forces to intervene against terror incidents and other crises that occur in Muslim countries, we must produce the solution ourselves through the Islamic alliance," he said.

Erdogan announced that a Turkish proposal to establish an Istanbul-based police cooperation and coordination center had been accepted by the 57-member Islamic bloc.

The Turkish president noted that the majority of the victims of terrorism are Muslims and called it a "source of shame" that most of those who risk their lives at sea to reach Europe are Muslims.

Turkey, he said, has saved 100,000 migrants colonists from drowning in the Aegean Sea on the way to Greece

The country also hosts 2.7 million Syrian refugees and recently entered a controversial deal with the EU aiming to curb illegal migration.

Pro-Trump message at California university sparks Latino outrage as #thechalkening continues
[LATINO.FOXNEWS] A pro-Donald Trump message was written in chalk in front of a Latino organization at the University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, San Diego last Friday, drawing the ire of Latinos who say the message is a direct attack against Mexicans on campus. And, in fact, the message appears to be part of a larger social media campaign on campuses across the country.

The UCSD chalk message, written on April 8, referred to the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump and his controversial positions on immigration. "Trump 2016," the message read. "Build the wall, deport them all!" and "Mexico will pay!"

Images of the message were posted on Facebook on Saturday afternoon by the UCSD College Democrats. The message itself has been removed and the college released a statement on Monday condemning the graffiti written outside of the Raza Resource Centro.

"This graffiti runs counter to our campus values of equity and inclusion," the statement from UCSD administrators read. "We value diversity and respect for all cultures."

The UCSD College Democrats blasted the message as "violently racist" and "xenophobic." The organization said it is one of many pieces of graffiti written on campus Friday night, allegedly by "hooded male adults."

with knives in Jerusalem, are suspected of planning an attack

It's the start of the Muslim weekend in Israel, and kids just want to have fun.
A Paleostinian man attacked an IDF soldier in the West Bank with an ax on Thursday, before troops shot and killed him, the army said.

The assailant was shot by soldiers at the scene of the incident, near the Al-Aroub refugee camp north of Hebron. The IDF confirmed the attacker later died of his injuries.

The attacker was identified as Ibrahim Brad’aih, 54, a resident of Al-Aroub, according to Hebrew media reports.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess that this gentleman is connected to Hamas, given his age and proximity to Hamas's headquarters in the West Bank.
The ax apparently hit the soldier in the helmet and he was unharmed, according to unconfirmed accounts of the incident.

Earlier, two 12-year-old Paleostinian boys were arrested in Jerusalem’s Old City after police discovered three knives concealed in one of their coats.

The Israel Police said it appeared the children were planning to carry out a stabbing attack. They were stopped for inspection after they raised the suspicions of coppers at the scene.

The kids are residents of the West Bank, and were detained near the Temple Mount, according to the Ynet news website.

The children were also found to be carrying a goodbye letter to their parents.

Earlier this week, the prison service said it has approved the early release of a 12-year-old Paleostinian girl who confessed to planning to carry out a stabbing attack in a West Bank settlement. Prison service front man Assaf Librati said Monday that authorities have decided to release the girl on April 24 -- six weeks before her scheduled release. He said the decision was made because of her "young age."

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea Plans Another Nuclear Test
North Korea is likely to conduct another nuclear test or test-fire a missile after South Korea's general elections on Wednesday, a pundit speculated Tuesday.

Victor Cha of the U.S. Center for Strategic and International Studies said the North will probably carry out further provocations between the general elections in South Korea and a massive Workers Party congress slated for early May.

"Historically, North Korea has responded with a missile or DMZ provocation within an average seven-day span before or after the legislative election event," Cha said. An exception was the "sunshine policy" of engagement with the North from 2000 to 2004.

Cha pointed out that commercial satellite imagery suggests the North has finished all preparations so it can conduct another nuclear test "without any forewarning."

"The domestic dynamic of establishing the North's recognized nuclear weapons status in time for the party congress is also a driving causal factor," he said.

The regime may feel a "need for an action" because April 15 is the 104th birthday of regime founder Kim Il-sung.

"The provocation could take the form of a fifth nuclear test... Or, it could take the form of a launch of one of North Korea as-yet untested mobile, medium and long-range ballistic," he added.

CNN on Wednesday quoted U.S. government officials as saying satellites have spotted signs "that North Korea may be preparing for an unprecedented launch of a mobile ballistic missile which could potentially hit portions of the U.S."

Afghanistan
40 ISIS Miscreants turned into a fine, red mist in Nangarhar
Upto 40 loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group have been killed in an airstrike in eastern Nangarhar province.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the airstrike was carried out in Achin district around 8:20 pm tonight.

It is yet not clear if the airstrike was carried out by the Afghan Air Force or the US forces in Afghanistan but MOD said further details would be released later.

This comes as both the Afghan and US forces in Afghanistan have stepped up operations against the loyalists of the terror group amid concerns that they are trying to expand foothold in the country.

According to reports, the US Air Force dropped 251 bombs and missiles targeting mainly the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan during the months of January and February.

According to the data compiled by the Air Force, the airstrikes in the first two months of the year was more than three times the strikes in the same period last year.

The increase in airstrikes followed by President Barack Obama’s grant of authority to launch attacks on Islamic State militants who had gained control over territory in several provinces, including areas in the Tora Bora region, where Osama bin Laden once took refuge.

Taliban Regains Ground in Dand-e-Ghori
Embattled Dand-e-Ghori in Baghlan province has once again been the scene of fierce fighting between Afghan security forces and the Taliban.

This comes after a concerted military operation, Nawed One (Hope), was launched in Dand-e-Shahabuddin.

Officials said the Taliban also resumed their attacks on Afghan forces in other parts of the province.

Army officials in Baghlan said that the operation was conducted by joint Afghan forces.

"The operation conducted with participation of army, police and NDS forces in Dand-e- Shahabuddin and will continue until the full elimination of Taliban hideouts in Baghlan proivince," said Gen. Rajab 209th Shaheen Corps deputy.

Officials have said that clashes continued throughout the night on Wednesday and that the Taliban have now seized Joe Nawo, Wardakha, Ahmadzaiha and a local police base in Qala-e-Khowaja.

Meanwhile Baghlan provincial council officials said that government must step in and stop the insurgency in the province.

"Tonight Taliban are going to attack Bala Joye and Darqat areas and also at 01:00 am on Shahr-e-Nawo, but attack on Shahr-e-Nawo will be pushed back but Joye Nawo and Ahmadzaiha will collapse to the Taliban and this is really a source of concern," said Bismillah Attash a provincial council member.

Dand-e-Ghori area was cleared of insurgents recently after 40 days of fighting between the security forces and the Taliban.

India-Pakistan
The mullah is not the threat. The blind following of disciples is
[NATION.PK] Having spent some time with the Lahore blast victims on a daily basis for the last few days, I have made a very strong connection with them. Throughout this time, there were many people here from different walks of life, just there for the victims’ moral support. There were students, teachers, youngsters, mothers and even those who had nothing material to contribute, but were just there to lend helping hands.

While I spent a few days there, I did not see a single self-proclaimed "Aashiq-e-Rasool" maulvi around condoling people who lost their loved ones, especially the kids who lost their parents with no one there to claim them. Later I realized that in order to be a real admirer of our Prophet, all you need to do is follow his footsteps and traits ‐ simple as that. When I see young likeminded volunteers cheering up the patients, boosting up their morale, distributing iPads and cycles among kids, it depicts the true face of humanity, which ought to be one of the supreme teachings of Islam. To me every volunteer out there is a true admirer of our Prophet.

Now coming back to patients, out of more than fifty patients in Jinnah and Sheikh Zayed hospitals, I was amazed to see their strong mental state and morale. The best part was that none of them, in spite of going through such a traumatizing event, had any complaints against the government or blamed anyone for security lapse. They were all on the same ground, with the same stance, that there is no detector ever invented yet which can detect this brainwashed breed of jacket wallahs.

Afghanistan
Pakistan's ISI funded deadly attack on CIA post at FOB Chapman
[Times of India] WASHINGTON: Talk about biting the hand that feeds. Even as it bilked billions of dollars in aid from the United States, Pakistan is now revealed to have funded the 2009 attack on a CIA camp on its border with Afghanistan that killed seven American agents and contractors and three others.

The explosive disclosure comes in a declassified 2010 cable published by the national security archive, that, despite being redacted in parts, asserts unequivocally that "some funding for Haqqani attacks are still provided by the Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence directorate, including $200,000 for the December 30, 2009, attack on the CIA facility at Camp Chapman."

The Camp Chapman attack was carried out by Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, a Jordanian doctor and double agent, whom the CIA was trying to use to infiltrate al-Qaida in Pakistan in its hunt for Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri. Instead, he was turned around the Haqqani group, a terrorist proxy for Pakistan's intelligence agency.

Al-Balawi's suicide attack on December 30, 2009 at the Camp Chapman forward post, which the CIA used to gather intelligence for drone attacks in Pakistan, killed ten people, including two female American CIA agents: Jennifer Lynne Matthews, 45, and a mother of three, who commanded the base, and Elizabeth Hanson, 30, a targeting analyst. The attack was memorialized in a movie titled Zero Dark Thirty.

While it has long been known that Pakistan's terrorism sponsorship has claimed the lives of Indian and American civilians and military personnel, the revelations about bankrolling the Camp Chapman attack, kept secret from the public so far, is certain to inflame tensions between the two sides, particularly their military-intelligence outfits. Successive US administrations -- particularly the state department led by John Kerry -- have long ladled out pabulum that Pakistan is a front-line ally in the war on terror while funneling billions of dollars of aid, despite multiple terrorist attacks across the world originating from Pakistan, including in San Bernardino, New York, and London.
The attack on FOB Chapman took place on December 30, 2009. Bin Laden was killed at Abbottabad on May 2, 2011. The goal was the neutralization of Bin Laden prior to the 2012 presidential election. The goal was met.

Kuwait academic charged with blasphemy over TV interview
[NATION.PK] A prominent female academic and human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
activist in Kuwait has been charged with blasphemy.

Sheikha al-Jassem was summoned to the public prosecutor's office after legal complaints were filed against her over a recent interview she gave on TV.

She asserted that the constitution of Kuwait should be above the Koran and Islamic law in governing the country.

The public prosecutor still has the discretion to decide whether or not Ms Jassem will be put on trial.

The interview was broadcast on Kuwaiti Al-Shahed TV on 8 March. Its theme was the rise of Islamic extremism.

During the interview, Ms Jassem was asked about radical Islamists who said that religion was more important than the Kuwaiti constitution.

She responded by saying that this was dangerous and that, in her opinion, politics and religion should be kept apart.

'They were terrifying me'
Ms Jassem made reference to the violence across the Middle East and divisions between Sunni and Shia Muslims. She said that if you just went back to holy books and relied on them, society could not move forward.

Her remarks provoked a storm of attacks against her, spearheaded by Islamist members of Kuwait's parliament.

"They were terrifying me - everywhere, not just from Kuwait, even from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
," she told the BBC. "They were talking against me, they were saying bad things, they were ridiculing me. But I'm used to it now.

Calls were made for Ms Jassem's dismissal from Kuwait University, where she is a professor of philosophy. and a legal complaint was issued against her.

The public prosecutor told her that the complainant said he had been psychologically damaged by her remarks.

Other legal complaints may also be filed.

Ms Jassem faces charges of blasphemy but it is up to the public prosecutor to decide whether to proceed to trial. If convicted, she could be jugged

for one year.

But she is undaunted, buoyed by the support she has received as well as abuse.

Europe
Paris attacks suspect had German nuclear papers hidden in flat
[DNAINDIA] A prime suspect in the Gay Paree terror attacks had documents related to a German nuclear research center hidden in his Brussels flat, a media report said on Thursday.

Salah Abdeslam possessed documents about Juelich Nuclear Research Centre located near the Belgium-Germany border and being used for the storage of atomic waste, RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) media group reported.

Citing its sources within the parliamentary control committee, whose meetings are confidential, RND said that head of Germany's domestic intelligence agency (BfV) Hans-Georg Maassen told the nine-person committee at the end of March that Abdeslam had the documents.

Maassen told the committee, which monitors the work of German security agencies, that printouts of articles from the internet and photos of nuclear centre CEO Wolfgang Marquardt had been found in Abdeslam's apartment in the Molenbeek area of Brussels, the Belgian capital, it added.

RND said it was unclear whether Maassen had passed this information on to the chancellery or the interior ministry. Several members of the Bundestag and a terrorism expert at the BfV said they knew of this information and that Maassen had confidentially informed them, RND reported.

In a statement, the centre said that there was no indication of any danger and that it was in contact with security authorities and nuclear supervisors. Abdeslam, 28, born and raised in Belgium to Moroccan parents, was nabbed
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
on March 18 along with four other suspects in his flat where he lived while the Gay Paree attacks were being plotted. Four days later, jacket wallahs killed 32 people in Brussels airport and on a rush-hour metro train.

in Washington early this month, attended by more than 50 world leaders, termed threat of nuclear and radiological terrorism as "one of the greatest challenges to international security" in the communique, which said the threat is "constantly evolving".

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Berlin Airport PR chief fired for calling project 'shit show’
[THELOCAL.DE] The new spin doctor for Berlin’s embarrassingly delayed new airport found honesty doesn’t pay in his business on Monday, after just three months in the job.

Berlin's new international airport was supposed to be the jewel in the crown of the reunited and reinvigorated German capital.

But the building project has become a by-word for administrative ineptitude, as delays, construction failures and a botched attempt at privatization have pushed the planned opening back by years.

The state governments of Berlin and Brandenburg are also likely to have to pay out millions in compensation to airlines which planned their businesses around a 2011 opening.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the project’s PR chief discovered the hard way on Monday that, despite all this being common knowledge, it doesn’t pay for someone on the inside to admit to it.

In an interview with PR Magazine, Daniel Abbou made the bleeding obvious observation that there is no chance the building project will be considered a success story.

"The old managers of the project messed up too much for that to be the case, too many billions of euros have been wasted," he said. "What we can do is create a sense of transparency."

And it didn’t end there. Abbou, who has been in the job since January, became ever more pointed in his criticism.

"Up until now official statements always said that the project was going well. That’s bullshit. Take responsibility when something has been a shit show," he said.

Speaking about a mooted opening in 2017, Abbou also cast doubt on the assurances of his bosses that this target could be met.

Nigeria Cautious over 'Proof of Life' Chibok Girls Video
[AnNahar] Nigeria's government on Thursday said it was studying a "proof of life" video showing 15 of the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, as parents and their supporters marked the second anniversary of the kidnapping.

The footage, shown on CNN, is the first time any of the missing girls have been seen since a previous Boko Haram video in May 2014, when about 100 were seen in Islamic dress reciting the Koran.

A total of 276 girls were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, on April 14, 2014. Fifty-seven escaped in the immediate aftermath.

Three mothers and a classmate of the 219 schoolgirls still missing confirmed the identities of the girls in the images broadcast on Wednesday night.

A senior government source told AFP it had received the video, which shows the girls in black hijabs, stating their names, that they were kidnapped from Chibok and saying they were "all well".

The video was said to have been shot on December 25 last year.

But the source said they were keen to avoid the problems encountered by the previous administration, which prematurely announced talks with Boko Haram elements and even a ceasefire.

"Our intelligence and security authorities... received a similar video in July last year and when they followed the lead it led to a cul-de sac," he revealed.

Contact could not be made and it was impossible to determine the identities of the purported Boko Haram members who sent it or if the move had the blessing of the group's leadership, he added.

Boko Haram has long been known to be factionalism, comprising groups of ideologically sympathetic fighters who do not always act under the direct orders of senior commanders.

In an indication the latest video and the previous unpublicized message may have come from one of these factions, the source also said the government had received a ransom demand last July.

The group asked for one million euros ($1.1 million) for 10 of the girls, the source disclosed.

That lends weight to theories the Chibok girls were split up following the abduction and were being held separately in different locations, complicating any possible talks or rescue bid.

AFP has also seen photographs of five girls that were sent to the government in mid-January this year as part of the same bid for negotiations.

Boko Haram's leader Abubakar Shekau has previously said the girls would be released in exchange for Islamist fighters held in Nigerian custody.

Boko Haram has used kidnapping as a weapon, seizing thousands of women and maidens of tender years, and forcibly conscripting men and boys, in a conflict that has killed an estimated 20,000 since 2009.

The men and boys have been forced to fight in Boko Haram's ranks, while the girls and women have been turned into sex slaves and even jacket wallahs.

Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
said this week some 952,000 of the 2.6 million people displaced by the violence were children, who had been "robbed" of their right to education by attacks on schools.

UNICEF said separately there had been a sharp rise in the use of kidnapped children as human bombs. Three-quarters of the child bombers in attacks from January 2014 to February 2016 were girls.

ISIS threatens attack on India; vows to wipe out Hindus
[DNAINDIA] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) has made new threat to send its fighters from Pakistain and Bangladesh to carry out ’guerrilla attacks’ in India.

In a recent interview carried by Dabiq magazine, the ’amir’ of ISIS fighters in Bangladesh, Shaykh Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif has vowed to wipe out Hindus and implement ’sharia’ law in India and Bangladesh. al-Hanif also revealed the terror group is currently training fighters in Bangladesh and Pakistain to launch attacks on India and is seeking the help of the local mujahideen in the country, according to a leading English daily.

The intention behind the attacks, al-Hanif says is to rid India of disbelievers as Muslims are facing trouble because of Hindus. In Dabiq, he has warned Hindus will be their main target in India.

To establish a caliphate, al-Hanif promises to topple Shiekh Hasina government in Bangladesh. "Bengal is located on the eastern side of India, whereas Wilayat Khurasan is located on its western side. Thus, having a strong jihad base in Bengal will facilitate performing guerrilla attacks inside India simultaneously from both sides and facilitate creating a condition of tawahhush (fear and chaos) in India along with the help of the existing local mujahidin there...," he is quoted as saying in the magazine.

"This would allow IS fighters to enter with a conventional army and completely liberate the region from the mushrikin (disbelievers), after first getting rid of the ’Pak’ and ’Afghani’ regimes", he added.

#6  "To establish a caliphate, al-Hanif promises to topple Shiekh Hasina government in Bangladesh." Bagnladesh is still one of the world's poorest nations. ISIS would spend most of their time feeding their new found client rather than using it as a base for attacks the Indians could easily repulse.

Also, India has nukes and I think they'd probably use them before simply allowing themselves to be slaughtered to the last Hindu.

So how pro-ISIS are the Muslim ghettos in India?

Jordan Shuts down more Muslim Brotherhood Offices
[AnNahar] Jordanian security services on Thursday pressed ahead with closures of offices of the Moslem Brüderbund, the kingdom's main opposition force, which vowed to fight the measure in the courts.

Brotherhood front man Badi al-Rafaia said its offices were sealed off with red wax in the towns of Mafraq, 70 kilometers (45 miles) northeast of Amman, and Madaba, 30 kilometers (30 miles) to the south of the capital.

The moves came one day after the movement's Amman headquarters were closed along with an office in Jerash to the north.

Previously tolerated for decades in Jordan, the Brotherhood has had tense relations with the authorities since the Arab Spring uprisings that shook the region in 2011.

The movement, in a statement published Thursday, said the closures "take us back to the days of martial law when order and justice are not respected", and pledged "to take judicial and political measures against these illegal pressures".

Kurds call on US spec ops for help
[ARA News]. DUHOK – Yezidi Peshmerga fighters have called on the US-led coalition against the Islamic State (ISIS) to free their women and children from the ISIS detention in Tal Afar in northwestern Iraq.
President Kennedy and General William P. Yarborough, Fort Bragg, 12 October 1961.
The frontlines in Sinjar –known in Kurdish as Shingal– are quiet and restless and are protected by around 5,000 Yezidi Peshmergas and fighters of the Shingal Resistance Units (YBŞ). On Wednesday, ISIS mortars injured several civilians inside the city of Sinjar.

“There are not any more ISIS forces in Tal Afar. My family is all in Tal Afar. There are 700 Yezidi families in the hands of ISIS in Tal Afar. I need my family to be free,” said Hassan, a Peshmerga fighter. “Now people need apaches here, there are no more ISIS forces in Tal Afar, I am sure,” he told ARA News.

China-Japan-Koreas
Is North Korea finally close to collapse?
[DW] For decades, politicians, policy experts and analysts have been predicting the imminent implosion of the North Korean regime, either as a result of economic collapse, external pressures, or a military coup to replace the Kim family as hereditary head of state.
The experts only have to be right once...
Some have even gone so far to suggest that internal pressures were close to the point at which a popular uprising might occur, similar to the one that deposed Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu in 1989.

Yet, successive members of the Kim clan have defied the crises and predictions to cling on to power.

Today, however, North Korea faces arguably the toughest test of "juche," its official political ideology of self-reliance that was dreamed up by Kim Il-sung, the first head of the nation and grandfather of present leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
There are some who believe that Kim Jong-un - young and inexperienced in his role - has made too many mistakes since he inherited the nation in December 2011, and alienated too many of the people close to the regime that he should have looked to for support and advice.

Equally, his people are growing increasingly aware of life beyond North Korea's borders, thanks to mobile communications and movies from South Korea and the West that are smuggled into the country.

And in trying to be the "strong man" of northeast Asia, and demanding respect through tests of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, Kim has even forced former allies to reassess their relationships with Pyongyang.

On April 9, the South Korean government announced that 13 employees of a North Korean restaurant in China had defected to Seoul. Rah Jong-yil, a former head of South Korean intelligence, said 13 defectors might not appear significant, but he believes it is an indicator of things to come.

"This is a very revealing development and, I believe, shows us the state of the morale of people in Pyongyang," he told DW.

Europe
Legal opinion finds Erodgan 'smear poem' not criminal
[THELOCAL.DE] There was good news for satirist Jan Böhmermann on Thursday, as broadcaster ZDF published a legal opinion claiming a "smear poem" he directed at The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's President was within the bounds of the law.

Lawyers hired by broadcaster ZDF ‐ home to Böhmermann's weekly TV show Neo Magazin Royale ‐ said that the satirist was within his rights to insult President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
crudely.

Böhmermann has been under police protection at his home in Cologne
...a lovely city in Germany. They invented perfume there...
this week as Erdogan launched an official complaint to the German government under a little-used law banning insults against foreign heads of state.

Erdogan has also launched a private legal proceeding against the TV comic, who among many insults called Erdogan a "goat fucker" who "watches child porn while kicking Kurds" in the poem, which Böhmermann acknowledged deliberately played with the boundaries of permissible speech.

The lawyers said the poem was clearly intended as a comment on Erdogan's angry reaction to a satirical song from comedy show Extra 3 the previous week ‐ not as a direct attack on his honour.

As such, it was within the bounds of satire defended under the German constitution ‐ although it did not live up to internal quality and taste regulations at ZDF.

It will be welcome news for Böhmermann supporters inside and outside the broadcaster, who have been calling for the government to reject Turkey's call to pursue Böhmermann and for the poem to be made available online again after ZDF took it down.

While that second objective looks unlikely to be fulfilled, the legal opinion will be further ammunition in what many see as a battle to defend free speech in Germany against outside interference.

And it will amplify criticism of the German government's slowness in deciding whether to go ahead with prosecution against Böhmermann.

McDonald's workers rally in Times Square for $15 minimum wage
[MONEY.CNN] Hundreds of raucous protesters, including striking Verizon employees, converged on a McDonald's restaurant in Times Square Thursday demanding a $15-an-hour minimum wage for fast food workers.

"What do we want? 15! If we don't get it? Shut it down!" chanted the protesters at dawn, bathed in neon light from the restaurant and Times Square billboards.

The crowd of about 300 protesters included a marching band and dancers. A pair of protesters dressed like the Hamburglar carried an outsized effigy of Ronald McDonald outside the restaurant as several McDonald's (MCD) customers sipped coffee and watched.

Muslim countries have agreed to work together to fight terrorism: Turkey President Erdogan
[DNAINDIA] Muslim countries have agreed to work together more closely to fight terrorism and other crimes and will establish an Istanbul-based centre for greater police cooperation, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday.

Leaders from the Muslim world are attending a summit in Istanbul this week of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss issues facing the grouping's 57 member states, including the humanitarian fall-out from Syria's civil war.

"It would be appropriate to create a structure among OIC countries which would strengthen and institutionalise cooperation against terror and other crimes," Erdogan said in his opening address at the summit.

"With this in mind, our proposal for the establishment of an OIC police cooperation and coordination centre based in Istanbul found acceptance."

Erdogan, whose country is set to take over the three-year rotating presidency of the OIC, gave no details about the new police centre or say when it might start work.

Today's updates on the Paris and Brussels attacks
Brussels suspect: Israeli, American, Russian check-in areas targeted

[IsraelTimes] Mohammed Abrini, who has admitted he was the "man in the hat" captured on CCTV before the Brussels airport bombings, said the original targets in the deadly attacks were departure areas for flights to Tel Aviv, the US, and Russia.

The suspect -- who fled the airport -- sought to downplay his role in the attacks, telling a judge that he would "never hurt a fly" and had never traveled to Syria, La Belle France’s BFMTV reported Thursday.

He told a court that airport bomber Ibrahim el Bakraoui had selected the check-in areas for flights to the Jewish state, US and Russia as targets.

The two bombs went off at check-in rows 2 and 11 at the Zaventem Airport, some nine seconds apart on March 22.

Investigators have yet to announce which airlines were targeted in the attack. Initial reports said the bombers blew themselves up near an American Airlines desk, but the airline denied that was the case. Representative Devin Nunes of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, the top politician on the intelligence committee in the US House of Representatives, said on March 23 that US airlines may have been targeted.

Hollande was quick to note that not all the tips were linked to genuine problems.

Feds: TVA executive traded nuclear information for cash in Chinese espionage case
[KNOXNEWS] An East Tennessean who served as a senior manager in the Tennessee Valley Authority's nuclear program swapped information with one of China's top nuclear power companies in exchange for cash, according to federal court records unsealed Thursday.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Knoxville on Thursday announced an espionage conspiracy indictment against China General Nuclear Power, Chinese nuclear engineer Szuhsiung "Allen" Ho, and Ho's firm, Energy Technology International. Prosecutors said Ho conspired with the companies to lure nuclear experts in the U.S. into providing information to allow China to develop and produce nuclear material based on American technology and under the radar of the U.S. government.

Ho was taken into custody in Atlanta on Thursday afternoon and will be returned to U.S. District Court in Knoxville to face the two-count indictment. The indictment consists of one count of conspiracy to illegally engage and participate in the production and development of special nuclear material outside the U.S. and one count of conspiracy to act in the U.S. as an agent of a foreign government.
