Clinton Praises Elizabeth Warren as '€˜Scourge of Everyone Special Interests'
[Free Beacon] Hillary Clinton penned a column praising Elizabeth Warren's strong-armed approach toward pursuing accountability among financial corporations as the Democratic presidential hopeful remains under fire for her numerous paid Wall Street speeches.

"Warren never lets us forget that the work of taming Wall Street's irresponsible risk taking and reforming our financial system Is far from finished," Clinton wrote in Time magazine's annual list of the "100 Most Influential People." "And she never hesitates to hold powerful people's feet to the fire: bankers, lobbyists, senior government officials and, yes, even presidential aspirants."

Running mates anyone? Running mates ?

No More Purple Rain - Prince Is Titzup
The artist known as Prince has died ... TMZ has learned. He was 57.

Prince's body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.

Multiple sources connected to the singer confirmed he had passed.

The singer -- full name Prince Rogers Nelson -- had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay. His people told TMZ he was battling the flu.

He was a pretty devote Adventist when young, later a Witness, and lived a fairly clean lifestyle his whole life.

Kind of an odd duck to talk to I understand, but was really good musically.

Couldn't read a note of music though, and played both drums and guitar by rote.

Party on......

Raj, I get when someone compares themselves to a legend they are usually full of it; but I had a family member suggest just that and I totally agreed, not only talent-wise but a much wider and deeper impact on pop culture and music. Now, maturity level, there is no comparing p$$y control to All Along the Watchtower - at which point said family member said no, Prince best musician ever. Where I said well Handel's Messiah is still popular after hundreds of years and hits me deep, as well as Bach. So here we are, at a crowed bar, and family member yells at me, "Best Musician Evah!" Seriously, I wasn't talked to for thirty minutes.

Was still touring at 57. Amazing life.

Is The $400 Billion F-35's 'Brain' Broken?

#3  Serious question:

How do the F35 "issues" compare to the issues around the Osprey?

I remember hearing terrible things about the Osprey for years but don't remember any details. All I know is that that weird looking plane seems to be in use today and shows up in many pics of war zones.

#5  Alan C; The Osprey was an entirely new technology; tilt rotor and all. A lot of the teething problems were just trying to figure out how to fly the damn thing.

the F-35 ( heresy naming it after the original Lightning) doesn't even want to fly.

My question is; The DOD canceled the A-12 after $5 Billion, why didn't they stop this piece of FOD?

#7  Yeah, I too was pissed they named it Lightning, even before any of the problems. So many badass things sky-related to choose from, and they coopt a famous and proven airframe name; should have been an ill omen.
Posted by: swksvolFF || 04/21/2016 18:21 Comments || Top||

#8  Naming it after a famous predecessor isn't necessarily a curse. The "Jug", P-47 Thunderbolt, was damned effective as a ground attack plane, and the A-10 Thunderbolt II has proven to be a worthy successor to that name.

But the 35 is a dog and a disgrace to the name Lightning.

#9  Geez, that's right. I wonder how old I was when I realized the official name isn't Warthog; like learning my dad's name isn't 'Dad'.

While we are at cursed names, and because it has become available, can we change DDG-120 from Carl M. Levin to Boaty McBoatface?

Movement pursues the 'real story' of '28 pages' and Saudi 9/11 involvement
Excerpt from very lengthy Washington Times article:
As a Democratic senator from Florida, Bob Graham co-chaired the joint committee that wrote those 28 pages. He is one of the nation’s most outspoken critics of the commission’s Saudi conclusion and is convinced there is a direct link between the hijackers and Saudi officials.

His interest focuses on several figures, including Omar al Bayoumi, who assisted hijackers Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid Almihdhar after they arrived in Southern California in January 2000. Al-Hazmi and Almihdhar were sent to California by plot leader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to learn English, then how to pilot an airliner for what he called the "Planes Operation."

Mr. Graham also concluded that Saudi diplomat Fahad al Thumairy, an official of the Islamic and Cultural Affairs section of the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Los Angeles, also helped the hijackers.

The U.S. pulled Mr. Thumairy's visa and banned him from the U.S.

Mr. Graham said in a sworn affidavit on Jan. 28, 2015, in a civil case: "Al Bayoumi met al Hazmi and al Mihdhar at a restaurant in Los Angeles in late January 2000, immediately following a meeting between al Bayoumi and al Thumairy at the Saudi consulate. Shortly thereafter, the two hijackers traveled to San Diego, where al Bayoumi held a dinner in their honor, helped them find an apartment, fronted the initial payments of that apartment, and provided them continuing financial assistance going forward. During the period that he supported the hijackers, al Bayoumi’s allowances from a ghost job with a Saudi private firm and contractor to the Saudi government increased eightfold. During that same period, al Bayoumi had an unusual number of telephone conversations with Saudi government officials in both Los Angeles and Washington."

#6  Saudi Arabia’s grass roots of Muslim clerics, mosquegoers and wealthy oilmen funded al Qaeda’s $30 million annual budget at the time a Saudi-dominated platoon of terrorists carried out the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America.

Yet the kingdom and its Islamic rulers had nothing to do with the plot, which killed nearly 3,000 people.

Grass roots is bad enough, isn't it? Doesn't that mean the people? Doesn't that mean they hate us? We should have nuked them. We still should. OK, how about we just arclight Mecca? If we were worried about the oil we should have sent our military to occupy their oil fields instead of Iraq's. Saddam did not finance alQaeda, the Soddies did. Al Qaeda and other jihadi group cadres were trained by Saddam Hussein's people at the Salman Pak facility, Ebbang Uluque6305. There were classes in hijacking, making biological and chemical weapons, and all the things a good jihadi needs to know to be a successful terrorist.

#15  Why did we remove Saddam? The rumor was that OBL's plans were much more expansive than we were told. Phase 1 - eliminate his Northern Alliance competition via assassination (completed); Phase 2 - increase his stature in the ME by humbling the great satan via the planes operation (completed); phase 3 - assassinate Saddam and install a proxy loyal to a planned OBL caliphate (fail). Remember at that time OBL heavily influenced the affairs of several countries from Africa - Yemen - the Saudis were paying him tribute - and he chose his al Qaeda (base) in the remote region of Afghanistan where he thought himself out of our reach. It is rumored that Saddam ferreted his assassins out and mitigated the initial threat. It was further rumored that we really, really did not want Saddam killed by OBLs folks with an end result that the a new OBL influenced dictator would control one of the world's largest armies. Saddam was in a spot - we offered him a way out, he wouldn't take it. Instead we forced him out and naively tried to install a democracy in Iraq (democracies can not be overthrown by a single bullet like a dictatorship was the theory). Somehow we didn't consider the end result - an envionment where a Shia democracy would push the remnants of Saddam's military leaders to create an AQI bred caliphate...OBLs intent all along...

Britain's National Union of Students (NUS) elected a new president who has been criticized for her anti-Israel views, and argued against an amendment to commemorate the Holocaust on campuses on the same day, British media reported on Wednesday.

Malia Bouattia, NUS's first black Muslim woman president, has been heavily chastised for her controversial opinions.
But got elected anyway...
In a 2011 blog post for a Friends of Palestine campaign, Bouattia called Birmingham University "a Zionist outpost." Bouattia also did not initially support a motion condemning ISIS as a terror organization, according to BBC.

U.S. Official Who Issued Visas to 9/11 Hijackers Still Works for State Department
[PJ] The State Department official who issued visas to many of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists is still employed by the federal government, according to J. Michael Springmann, the author of Visas for al-Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked the World.

Springmann, former head of the visa section at the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, told PJM that Shayna Steinger approved 11 of the visas granted to the 19 9/11 hijackers. Fifteen received their visas at the Jeddah consulate.

Page 7 of the 9/11 Commission report states that "one consular officer issued visas to 11 of the 19 hijackers." Those visas were reportedly approved between the years 1999 and 2001.

Springmann, an attorney who no longer works for the federal government, learned the State Department commissioned Steinger as a class four foreign service officer in 1999, which he said is "a high rank for someone hired just out of Columbia University with no prior experience."

"Despite her issuing visas to terrorists and giving equivocal answers to the 9/11 Commission, Steinger is still an FSO," Springmann wrote in his book.
One must wonder given the obvious threat, if Ms. Steinger was acting at the behest of others.
She was appointed and confirmed by the Senate under the Clinton administration in 1999 as Shayna Steinger Singh in the Congressional Record, Volume 145.
Have the infamous 9/11 '28 pages' been leaked ?

#1  The Shayna Steinger piece gets worse, much, much worse.

Early Fall 2000: Jeddah-Based Consular Officers Argue over Visa Policy for Saudi ApplicantsEdit event.

Two consular officers at the US consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Shayna Steinger and David El Hinn, argue over the eligibility of Saudi citizens for US visas. The consulate had instituted a policy of aggressively interviewing young Saudi males in the wake of the 1998 East African embassy bombings due to terrorism concerns (see (Late August-September 1998)). When El Hinn arrives in Jeddah in August 2000, the consulate is still interviewing a significant percentage of Saudi visa applicants and all first-time students. El Hinn will say that officers are suspicious of Saudi citizens who are from locations where they know extremists live and who have only a vague notion of where they are headed in the United States. In addition, officers at the consulate think that, because of trouble in the Saudi economy, Saudis perhaps should not be getting visas almost automatically. Therefore, El Hinn denies a significant percentage of Saudi visa applicants as well as third-country applicants. Steinger, who works full-time on visas and deals with most of the Saudi applicants, takes a different approach and issues visas to almost all the Saudis who apply for one. Despite the obvious terrorism concerns that had previously been known to US officials in Jeddah, Steinger will say that she is “never really afraid of Saudis” and never makes the connection between the known presence of al-Qaeda members in Saudi Arabia and the possibility that the Saudis applying for visas are terrorists. Steinger believes that El Hinn is denying Saudis visas for what she will call “the wrong reasons,” and the two clash over this. El Hinn is even rebuked by the consul general in Riyadh for his high refusal rate.

Alaskan bear mauls mountaineering 101 Professor during class
[Daily Caller] An outdoor studies professor at the University of Alaska Southeast was mauled by a bear on Monday while he was leading 11 students on an expedition as part of a Mountaineering 101 class.

The professor, Forest Wagner, is currently listed in stable condition at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, reports local NBC affiliate KTUU.

Wagner, 35, was teaching his students the basics of field mountaineering on Mount Emmerich near the town of Haines, not far from Glacier Bay National Park, when the bear attacked him.

Police say they believe the bear was protecting its cubs.

I strong whispered, "Hey bear" and that darn thing jumped its height and took off running.

Trump comes to the same conclusion as many here regarding the indictment of Clinton
[Breitbart] Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s "The O’Reilly Factor," Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump downplayed the possibility of Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton’s White House hopes being spoiled by an indictment over transgressions stemming from her use of a private email server while secretary of state during President Barack Obama’s first term.

He did, however, tell host Bill O’Reilly he thought the emails would be fair game in a campaign situation for her opponents.

"I think the emails ‐ I don’t think that’s playing dirty pool," Trump said. "I think the emails are a big part of her life story right now. What she did is terrible and we’re going to see what happens."

But Trump said he did not foresee an indictment because he thought Democrats were protecting her.

"No, because I think the Democrat Party is going to protect her," he added. "I don’t think she is going to be indicted. I that what she has done is very, very serious. I know for a fact what Gen. [David] Petraeus and others have done is much less. And it destroyed their lives. So, I do believe, Bill, that she is being protected."

O’Reilly asked if it were possible the Democratic Party was working an "non-corruptible" agency like the FBI to prevent the indictment. Trump answered by saying there was a human element to this. But he added the danger for Clinton would be if another president’s administration looked at it within the six-year statute of limitations.

"I hope they are not working together," he replied. "You know, they are humans and they are people and they do talk, I would imagine. And I would like to think they don’t work together. But I would say that she is being protected. Now, what she can’t be protected from is the statute of limitations because on the assumption that somebody else got in ‐ that’s a real dangerous situation."

O’Reilly followed up by asking Trump if he would look at it if he were president, to which Trump acknowledged he "certainly" would.
Yes, I suspect a Rudy Giuliani Justice Department would be most interested.
"Certainly this falls within that period of time," he added. "And you certainly have to look at it, very fairly. I would only do something if it was 100 percent fair. Certainly that is something that you would look at."

Obama administration weighs nixing confidential classification.

Excluding the SAP related stuff and some other TS related items, the majority of the Beest's violations involve 'confidential.' If you eliminate confidential, then down grade or DECLAS everything else, the problem goes away.

Has any other President of the United States discovered an interest in the classification system in his final day's in office ?

Abadi, who emphasized that the authorities will continue their tasks of enforcing security, also told them to pursue anyone who trespasses on either public and private properties.

The prime minister made the order after an urgent security meeting with military and security leaders on Wednesday.

"The meeting discussed the protests being held in front of state institutions, which lead to obstructing work there. It also discussed the general security situation in the country," the prime minister’s office said in a statement.

"(We) confirm the (citizens’) right to peaceful protests according to the legal framework, and (we confirm) the government’s commitment to its duties in maintaining security and stability and preventing any unlicensed protests," it added.

Brussels bombing suspect Osama K. charged in Paris attacks
[FRANCE24] A main suspect in the investigation into the Brussels bombings has also been charged with participation in the Gay Paree attacks four months earlier, Belgian federal prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Osama Krayem, who was nabbed
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in Brussels earlier this month, might have been present in different safehouses used by the bad boy attackers, such as a suspected bomb factory raided in December, prosecutors said.

"He has been charged with terrorist murder and participation in the activities of a terrorist group," prosecutors said in a statement.

Krayem, a Swedish national, had been previously linked to the attacks in Gay Paree after it emerged that he had been checked by police in October near the southern German city of Ulm in a car rented by Salah Abedelslam, a key suspect in the investigation.

Belgian prosecutors also believe Krayem is the man seen with Brussels bomber Khalid El Bakraoui shortly before he went kaboom! at a metro station, and was responsible for buying the bags used to transport the explosives. He was charged with terrorist murder over the Brussels bombings shortly after his arrest on April 8.

US increase intelligence cooperation with Kurds
[ARA News] ERBIL – The Kurdistan Region’s Security Council (KRSC) took credit for providing intelligence to the US-led coalition that killed a senior military advisor for the Islamic State (ISIS) in Mosul.

“On 16 Apr, in coordination with our Counter-Terrorism Dept, an airstrike killed ISIS senior member Imad Khaled Afer,” the Kurdish council said in a public statement.

“Also known as Abu Sarya, he was a close associate of the groups spokesman, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, and a military advisor in Mosul.”

“He was also responsible for ISIS operations in Mosul. The targeted CJTFOIR airstrike was conducted in Sahel al Aysa near Salam Hospital,” the statement added.

The US-led coalition has recently increased its intelligence and counter terrorism cooperation with the Kurds against the Islamic State.

The Kurdish Special Forces from the Directorate General of Counter-Terrorism (CTD) has carried out several joint operations with US Special Forces in Kirkuk and Mosul, and rescued a Swedish girl on February 17 from ISIS captivity.

LNA claims victory as IS abandons Derna
The Libya National Army (LNA) says it has driven the remaining fighters from the so-called Islamic State (IS) out of the Derna area.

Abdulkarim Sabra, spokesman for the LNA’s Omar Mukhtar Operations Room which covers Derna and the surrounding region, told the Libya Herald that the army had taken control of Derna’s south eastern suburb of Fataieh and the area known as District 400 at the far east end of the town following a new ground and air offensive today. IS forces had, however, managed to escape, he said, claiming that they had pulled out of the town on the express orders of IS’s “caliph” himself, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

The terrorists, he stated, had retreated towards the desert road to Ajdabiya, heading for Sirte, taking 32 vehicles with them. They had, Sabra added, refuelled their vehicles at a petrol station on the way before wrecking it.

In today’s fighting, Sabra added, two soldiers had been killed and one injured. He did not disclose where the casualties had taken place.

The Fataieh area with its farms, had remained an IS stronghold long after the organisation was forced out of the town by local mujahideen forces last June. Ever since, there have been continuing clashes between the two groups, with tacit support, particularly air support for the mujahideen coming from the LNA despite officially having nothing to do with each other. The unofficial collaboration against IS has continued, although in recent weeks the LNA has increased its ground presence in the area.

Following today’s announcement by Derna Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council that the town was now free of terrorists, there were claims by anti-Hafter voices that IS was forced out of Fataieh purely by the mujahideen and not the LNA. However, LNA helicopters were reported still targeting Fataieh this afternoon and this evening there were further reports of continued fighting near Al-Mekhili, some 100 kilomtres south west of Derna and on the way to the Tobruk-Ajdabiya road as LNA land and air forces targeted the retreating militants. According to Sabra, Fataieh is now controlled by the LNA’s 102 Brigade.

In Derna itself, people took to the streets to celebrate the defeat of IS.

Kurds suffer deprivations in Nusaybin
[ARA News] NUSAYBIN – Around 35 thousand civilians trapped inside the mainly Kurdish city of Nusaybin southeastern Turkey are suffering from severe shortage of water, food and medicines as well as complete electricity outage, local sources reported.

Activists in the stranded city confirmed that the Turkish army has been bombing residential neighborhoods in Nusaybin with heavy artillery and tanks for nearly two months, coinciding with clashes between Turkish security forces and the PKK-affiliated People’s Defense Forces (HPG).

Under the banner “No to Silence”, a group of Kurdish activists in the Nusaybin’s twin city of Qamishli northeastern Syria reported that the Turkish army stepped up its bombardment on Nusaybin since Saturday midnight.

The bombardment was focused on the neighborhoods of Abdel Qader Pasha, Zein al-Abedin, Qishla and Kanika, according to the Kurdish monitoring group.

In the meantime, Turkish special forces have deployed dozens of snipers on the top of residential buildings around the city, imposing curfew across its neighborhoods.

“Dozens of artillery shells hit the Kurdish city on a daily basis, amid street fighting between Turkish security troops and the PKK’s offshoots and supporters,” an eyewitness told ARA News.

Also, Several Turkish shells hit the Gharbiya and Zaytouniya neighborhoods in Qamishli city inside the Syrian border earlier this week.

Over the past two months, the Turkish army has been targeting the PKK strongholds in Nusaybin with tanks and artillery from the hills that overlook the Kurdish region, in a bid to remove the PKK-led checkpoints erected on the roads linking the cities in Turkey’s south-east, according to Turkish military sources.

Noteworthy, violence has raged in Turkey’s Kurdish region since July 2015 subsequent to the collapse of peace talks–aimed at ending a three-decade conflict in the country.

Although the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claims its military campaign on the Kurdish region is aimed at combatting rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), monitoring groups and human rights activists accused the army of targeting civilians, killing over 1100 and injuring hundreds others.

“Under the pretext of combatting PKK members, the Turkish authorities are bombing infrastructures and residential neighborhoods in the Kurdish region,” said Hoshin Ebdullah, a Kurdish lawyer and human rights activist.

Ebdullah told ARA News that civilians stranded in Kurdish areas under the ongoing military campaign suffer a sharp shortage of food and medicines, beside constant cut of electricity and water.

More than 100,000 Kurdish civilians have been displaced from their homes in the provinces of Diyarbakir and Şırnak in southeastern Turkey, over the last few months.

“We hope that the international community would ever take action and stop this brutal military campaign against the Kurds in Turkey,” civil rights activist Ehmed Hokenek told ARA News.

How Europe Fixed Its Too-Big-to-Fail Problem
Interesting piece from Politico (of all places) that discusses the problem of "too big to fail" banks. The article rather wisely notes that banks can't finance the once-every-twenty-years failures of the world banking system, and so should be prohibited from doing the things that lead to these failures.

I certainly don't have the expertise to dissect this in detail, and perhaps there's a counter-argument to letting Wall Street have its way more. But if I were a pol and knew that Wall Street wasn't going to support me anyway, I'd be pushing these ideas.

#1  barring banks from crisis-inducing behavior was the best remedy

But it doesn't explain why. The problem is perverse incentives. If crises come along every 20 years, then if you are a banker who gets a yearly bonus based on performance, your best strategy is to take big risks, because you will make big bonuses for 19 years, then make none and could well get fired in the 20th year. So what. You've already made a pile of money in the preceding 19 years.

The solution is to bar everyone from trading derivatives etc, except those who trade with their own money or money from people who have explicitly signed on for this trading. The Lloyds of London model.

BTW, the size of the bank is immaterial. It's the size of the failure that matters.

the koran is, on face value, ambiguous on this issue; 4-43 says not to pray while intoxicated which implies that if you don't have to pray intoxication is OK or that drinking without becoming intoxicated is OK

Police arrest 31 in sweep of East Jerusalem neighborhood
[IsraelTimes] Explosive device detonated near Issawiya mosque during the operation, but no one injured

IDF troops and border police carried out a major arrest operation overnight Tuesday in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya, police said Wednesday.

During the operation, Israeli forces placed in durance vile
Please don't kill me!
31 people suspected of rock throwing, possessing illegal weapons and rioting, a police statement said. Another 18 people were brought in for questioning.

During the sweep, a low-scale bomb exploded near the entrance to the mosque in the neighborhood. No one was injured by the blast.

The operation had been planned in advance based on intelligence findings, the police statement said.

The statement also said that in tandem with the arrest operation, the police have partnered with the Jerusalem municipality’s beautification and sanitation departments to improve the overall quality of public spaces in the neighborhood, including increasing sanitation efforts, erasing graffiti and painting street curbs.

Israel recently announced new efforts to crack down on crime and raise the standard of living in Arab neighborhoods.

Meanwhile,
...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin...
Israeli forces clashed with Paleostinian youths overnight Tuesday during an operation to demolish the home of a terrorist in the West Bank town of Qalandiya.

Two soldiers were lightly injured when rocks were thrown at troops during the demolition of a house belonging to the family of Hassin Abu Gush, 17, who killed Shlomit Krigman in a stabbing attack in the West Bank settlement of Beit Horon in January, the army said.

The army said troops were attacked with rocks, Molotov cocktails and an improvised bomb thrown at soldiers who responded by firing tear gas and then live bullets at the protesters.

Two Paleostinians were shot during the festivities, according to the Paleostinian Ma’an news agency. The army confirmed the reports.

Abu Gush along with Ibrahim Al’an, 23, from the West Bank Paleostinian village of Beit Ur al-Tahta, entered the Beit Horon settlement near Jerusalem on January 25 and stabbed shoppers in a local grocery store. Both were rubbed out by a security guard at the scene. Krigman, 23, was maimed and died a day later. Another woman was moderately maimed.
Another Times of Israel article adds:
Abu Gush’s parents had appealed against the demolition of their home, where they live with their six children, arguing that their son was a minor when he carried out the attack.

But the High Court of Justice rejected the petition last week, citing early Shin Bet warnings to the family as proof that they had been given ample opportunity to prevent the attack.

The security service warned the family that their son was edging into bully boy behavior, but the teenager nevertheless went on to carry out the attack that killed Krigman.

In their ruling the judges noted that in the months before the attack, the Shin Bet identified Abu Gush as expressing bad boy views and suspected that he was planning to carry out a terror attack. Last August he was called in with his father for a talk with a Shin Bet coordinator to warn them that the teen should change his ways, the Walla report said. The coordinator also made it clear to the father that his son had been banned from entering Israel because of his behavior. They were then released.

Two months later the coordinator called the father and after warning him that his son was continuing in his "bad ways," made clear to him that next time there wouldn’t be just a phone call but a house visit. Three months later the son carried out the attack along with Al’an.

US Supreme Court: Iran owes $2b to terror victims’ families
[IsraelTimes] Claimants, including relatives of 241 Marines slain in 1983 Beirut attack, will be able to demand compensation from Iranian central bank

The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a judgment allowing families of victims of Iranian-sponsored terrorism to collect nearly $2 billion.

The court on Wednesday ruled 6-2 in favor of relatives of the 241 Marines who died in a 1983 terrorist attack in Beirut and victims of other attacks that courts have linked to Iran.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote the opinion for the judges, which rejected efforts by Iran’s central bank to try to stave off court orders that would allow the relatives to be paid out for their losses.

Iran’s Bank Markazi complained that Congress was intruding into the business of federal courts when it passed a 2012 law that specifically directs that the bank’s assets in the United States be turned over to the families.

The law, Ginsburg wrote, "does not transgress restraints placed on Congress and the president by the Constitution."

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented. "The authority of the political branches is sufficient; they have no need to seize ours," Roberts wrote.

More than 1,300 people are among the relatives of the victims of the Marine barracks bombing in Beirut, the 1996 terrorist bombing of the Khobar Towers in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
which killed 19 service members, and other attacks that were carried out by groups with links to Iran. The lead plaintiff is Deborah Peterson, whose brother, Lance Cpl. James C. Knipple, was killed in Beirut.

Congress has repeatedly changed the law in the past 20 years to make it easier for victims to sue over state-sponsored terrorism; federal courts have ruled for the victims. But Iran has refused to comply with the judgments, leading lawyers to hunt for Iranian assets in the United States.

Liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans in Congress, as well as the B.O. regime, supported the families in the case.

The case is Bank Markazi v. Peterson, 14-770.

This year -- and every year -- the "real issue" should be corruption.
They note that even talking about this is only providing fall campaign fodder for Republicans who want your daughter to wear a chastity belt and your son to enlist for World War III.
... or in the War on Women®...
The defenders don't get it. In 2016, not just in our mashugana presidential race but all over the world, the nexus of politics and obscene amounts of money is no longer a sideshow that finances our endless culture wars or our class warfare. Money in politics is the show, and the average citizen, from Iowa to Iceland, is so sick of billionaires buying not just our elections but our politicians that they are rising up against this kleptocracy, a system of government based on stealing wealth from the middle classes.

group has did away with himself in a Turkish prison, local media reported on Wednesday.

Nedim Bellus, 35, was detained by Turkish police in an operation last week on suspicion of being an IS member and imprisoned in Iskendurun, a town in Hatay province near the Syrian border, the private Dogan news agency reported.

Authorities found his body hanging above his bed, Dogan said, adding that a probe into his death had been launched.

has long been under pressure to do more to stem the flow of jihadists going to war-torn Syria to join IS -- and to stop them from coming back.

The government says it has tightened border security while urging the West to do more to prevent European jihadists from leaving for Turkey in the first place as well as sharing intelligence more widely.

A member of U.S.-led coalition fighting IS, Turkey has also been hit by attacks blamed on jihadists, including two deadly suicide kabooms in Istanbul that targeted foreign tourists.

In the last few weeks, IS has repeatedly fired rockets on the Turkish town of Kilis on the Syrian border, prompting the Turkish army to respond with artillery fire.

The Taliban group grabbed credit behind the attack which comes amid rampant insurgency led by the group since they announced their spring offensive.

The attack was widely condemned by the Afghan officials as well as the international community.

four years after killing two US military advisers in an insider attack in the Ministry of Interior of Afghanistan.

Sediq Sediqi, front man for the Ministry of Interior, said the attacker was identified as Abdul Saboor and was arrested by the security forces four years after the incident.

The number of green-on-blue attacks by Afghan cops reached record levels in 2013 however the attacks largely dropped in 2012 as coalition and Afghan commanders bolster security and improve screening of troops who might be a threat.

According to reports at least 62 coalition security forces were killed by their Afghan counterparts in 47 insider attacks.

The growing green on blue attacks forced the coalition forces to improve security tactics to enhance troop protection.

According to coalition officials at that time the Afghan commanders increased supervision and oversight of their troops.

The Afghan officials enhanced screening of recruits and took counterintelligence steps to screen for potential attackers.

Seven policemen guarding polio workers shot dead in Karachi
[DAWN] KARACHI: Seven police officials guarding polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
workers were killed in two separate attacks in Orangi Town Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

DIG West Feroz Shah told DawnNews that eight gunnies riding four cycle of violences carried out the killings in two separate attacks in the neighbourhood.

"The gunnies first opened fire on three coppers in the streets of Orangi Town, killing them all," he said, adding: "Later they rubbed out four coppers, who were sitting in a police mobile van" a few streets away.

"The first incident happened while the police was escorting the polio team," Shah said.

"A policeman intervened when eight men on four cycle of violences came and asked a polio worker for his name. In response, the men opened fire. Although the police fired in response, they were overpowered," he said.

"The same men killed four members of another police team."

Abdul Kareem, an official at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the bodies were taken, also confirmed the casualties.

There are no reports of injuries or deaths of polio workers.

The anti-polio campaign in the area was suspended immediately and heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies, including paramilitary Rangers, cordoned off the area.

ISIS takes district in Deir ez-Zor
[ARA News] HOMS – Subsequent to clashes with Syrian regime army forces, militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) were able Wednesday to control a key neighborhood in Syria’s eastern city of Deir ez-Zor.

Amaq agency reported that ISIS militants took control of the last positions of the Assad’s forces in the Sinaa neighborhood of Deir ez-Zor, after fierce battles.

Regime security posts in Sinaa fell to ISIS after the group killed more than 20 Syrian soldiers.

Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, media activist Mujahid Rifaee confirmed that ISIS militants hang the corpses of the soldiers in a public square in the neighborhood [Sinaa], vowing civilians not to stand beside the regime’s forces, otherwise they would be slaughtered.

“They [ISIS militants] were filming the hanged corpses in order to boost their propaganda versions,” Refaee argued.

The hardline group was able to advance in the areas adjacent to the Sinaa neighborhood on the outskirts of at-Tahtouh neighborhood, killing one of the regime’s troops by a sniper shot.

ISIS has reportedly advanced towards the regime-held strategic airbase of Deir ez-Zor earlier this month, despite the US-led coalition’s airstrikes on the group’s fighting positions. Local activists confirmed that at least seven soldiers were killed during the clashes before ISIS insurgents seized control of several army posts in the vicinity of the Deir ez-Zor airbase.

Over the past four weeks, Russian air force intensified airstrikes on the international highway linking the cities of Palmyra, Deir ez-Zor and ISIS-held Raqqa in a bid to prevent ISIS from receiving additional reinforcements.

In March 2016, Syrian army forces began a major offensive with the support of the Russian warplanes and infantry to control the eastern areas of the international highway between Palmyra and Deir ez-Zor city.

Deir ez-Zor is a key city to the extremist group for it connects the group’s de facto capital Raqqa with Iraqi territory controlled by ISIS.

ISIS has been fighting for more than a year to seize the military airport and other regime-held districts in Syria’s oil-rich eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, according to military and local sources.

800 yard long drug tunnel found between Mexico and San Diego
[Ynet] A nearly half-mile-long tunnel leading from Mexico to San Diego was discovered and more than a ton of cocaine and seven tons of marijuana was seized, the US attorney's office said Wednesday. Six people were incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
The tunnel extends 300 yards from a house in Tijuana, Mexico, to the border and then 500 yards on the U.S. side to a fenced lot in a San Diego industrial area.

The tunnel was equipped with a rail system, ventilation, lights and a large elevator, officials said. The exit on the US side is about 3 feet wide and was covered by a trash bin.

The six people arrested in San Diego on Friday were charged with crimes involving drugs and construction of the tunnel.

The discovery demonstrates the enduring appeal of tunnels to smugglers, despite the significant time and money required to build one. Dozens of tunnels have been found along the US-Mexico border in recent years, some equipped with hydraulic lifts and electric rail cars.

40K flee Aleppo airstrikes
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Around 40,000 Syrians have fled fighting near Syria’s northern city of Aleppo towards the Turkish border after warplanes loyal to President Bashar al-Assad conducted several airstrikes on opposition-held areas, military and local sources reported on Wednesday.

Local activists confirmed that fighting around Aleppo city has become a serious threat to the fragile truce of the so-called cessation of hostilities, which came into force on February 27. However, the opposition delegation took a decision on Tuesday to suspend its participation in the formal peace talks in Geneva, especially with mounting attacks by the regime’s army forces on the opposition-held areas.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement that the fighting in northern Aleppo resulted in the displacement of more than 40 thousand people to the camps and residential areas over the past few days.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, rights activist Samir Dalati said that the majority of people have moved to the eastern suburbs and towards the strategic town of Azaz on the border with Turkey in addition to the refugee camps of the Bab as-Salam and Sijo.

“As thousands of civilians are heading to Azaz area, humanitarian needs keep increasing, ” Dalati reported.

The source pointed out that intensifying airstrikes [by pro-regime forces] on the opposition-held areas in northern Aleppo have made it difficult for international aid organizations get access to the residential areas, “which may deepen the crisis and increase Syrians’ misery”.

Also, Turkey has closed its border in front of everyone except for those who suffer from serious injuries or illnesses, a medical source told ARA News on Wednesday.

The opposition claims that Assad’s forces have violated the cessation of hostilities agreement to start a new offensive aimed at wresting control of Aleppo, which has been divided between the regime and the opposition for years.

On the other hand, the MSF announced that there are more than 100 thousand people trapped on the Syrian side of the Turkish border and that 35 thousand others have fled over the past week from the camps captured by the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) or approached to from the battle front.

“There is no safe place to go .. we are trapped in this brutal and bloody conflict,” a Syrian displaced man told ARA News on the Turkish border.

IDF prepares new training to counter Hamas tunnels

The IDF will continue work to uncover all sections of the recently-discovered Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, tunnel over the next few weeks to ensure that there are no other exit shafts inside Israel, as it is unclear how far the tunnel penetrated into Israeli territory.

Simultaneously, the defense establishment is developing a system to combat the Gazoo tunnels threat which is due to be completed within two years. This system will include engineering and technological measures to detect and destroy the tunnels and will supplement the border fence.

Home Front: WoT
Congress To Air Force: Look Into Buying More F-22s
Three months after the Secretary of the Air Force said resuming F-22 Raptor production was a "nonstarter," Congress is directing the service to look into doing exactly that. A key House of Representatives subcommittee wants the Air Force to study how it would go about buying another 194 of the high-tech jets.

The Air Force bought 178 Raptors for a total of $62 billion, ending in 2009. When he stopped the program, then-Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said the aircraft had no relevance in conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan. He also wanted to free up funds for what he considered more relevant programs, such as the Mine Resistant Armored Protection vehicle. The last F-22 was delivered in 2012.

The drumbeat for Lockheed Martin to resume Raptor production has gotten louder lately, though, especially with the struggles of the F-35 programs. But just this January, Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James rejected the idea of resuming F-22 production while speaking at a think tank event, stating "we've got what we've got" with regards to the fighter and that the F-22 and the F-35 would complement each another in the field.

Now, the House Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee wants the Air Force to look into reopening the F-22 production line, and buying enough planes to fulfill the original order of 381 aircraft. Specifically, the bill would direct the Air Force to "conduct a comprehensive assessment and study of the costs associated with resuming production of F-22 aircraft and provide a report to the congressional defense committees, not later than January 1, 2017."

In 2010, the Rand Corporation projected that restarting the F-22 production line would cost $17 billion to produce 75 aircraft. Extrapolating from that estimate, it would cost about $42 billion to buy the required 194 planes to complete the original order, or $47 billion in 2016 dollars.

From a mechanical perspective, the Raptor absolutely could be restarted. Lockheed and the Pentagon saved the tooling for producing the F-22 and its engine, the F119, in case of emergency. More than 30,000 jigs, fixtures, and other pieces of manufacturing equipment key to building the F-22 are stored at Sierra Army Depot, a storage facility in the Sierra Nevada mountains. A series of instructional DVDs, were also produced and stored to instruct future engineers on how to build parts.

But an F-22 restart would need to clear considerable political hurdles. First, the Air Force civilian leadership apparently doesn't want it. Second, it would have to pass both the House and Senate as part of their respective defense authorization bills. Finally, the president would have to sign off on the restart.

Even manufacturer Lockheed Martin may not want in on this. If the Air Force were to purchase more F-22s, that would throw a monkey wrench into the F-35 program (which is also built by LM). If it were Congressionally mandated to buy more F-22s, then the Air Force would almost certainly order fewer F-35s, which would increase costs for all F-35 buyers, foreign and domestic. That in turn may decrease sales. And while some allied countries could be interested in buying the F-22 instead of the F-35—Japan in particular—the U.S. is barred by law from exporting the plane in order to protect its technological secrets. The bill specifically calls for the Air Force to look into exporting the F-22 abroad if the law were changed.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran struggles to find enough ships for oil exports
[Ynet] Iran faces a struggle to increase oil exports because many of its tankers are tied up storing crude, some are not seaworthy, and foreign shipowners remain reluctant to carry its cargoes.
The poor darlings.
Tehran is seeking to make up for lost trade to Europe following the lifting of EU sanctions imposed in 2011 and 2012, which deprived it of a market that accounted for over a third of its exports and left it relying completely on Asian buyers.

Iraq
Senior ISIS figure in Iraq targeted in US-led raid
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A senior ISIS figure in Iraq has been targeted in a US-led commando raid, the Pentagon said Wednesday, as Kurdish officials claimed he had been killed.

The assault late Sunday, the latest raid by US special operators on a mission to kill or capture ISIS leaders, occurred at some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location in northern Iraq and targeted Suleiman Abd Shabib al-Jabouri, Baghdad-based US military front man Colonel Steve Warren said.

He worked as "one of ISIS’s military emirs and an ISIS war council member," Warren told Pentagon news hounds in a phone call, using an acronym for the ISIS group.

"Al-Jabouri’s removal will degrade ISIS’s leadership network and impact their ability to coordinate attacks and defend ISIS strongholds," he added.

Warren declined to comment on whether Jabouri was killed, but in a statement to AFP on Wednesday the Kurdish regional Security Council said he died.

"Al-Jabouri, also known as Abu Saif, was a member ISIS’s military council, supervising the group’s activities in South djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and Makhmour. In the joint operation, two of his aides were also killed," the statement read.

The raid was conducted by Kurdish fighters and elite US special operations troops deployed to Iraq as an "Expeditionary Targeting Force," or ETF.

Military officials keep the ETF’s whereabouts secret, saying that discussing missions puts the elite fighters at risk.

The group works extensively alongside local Kurdish fighters.

Last month, Pentagon officials announced the ETF had captured a "significant" ISIS operative whose detention was expected to yield intelligence leading to the apprehension of other ISIS targets.

The United States has for the past 20 months led an international coalition against ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter on Monday announced several measures to help Iraqi security forces as they try to retake territory from the Death Eaters, including extra cash for the Kurds, additional US advisors and attack helicopters that could be used in an eventual battle for Mosu

Home Front: WoT
Ties between Hamas-linked charities and BDS highlighted in Congressional testimony
[IsraelTimes] Terror finance expert describes ’network’ of ex-fundraisers in organizations linked to Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and key pro-boycott organization

The US should boost transparency of nonprofit organizations in order to shed light on ties between a key pro-boycott organization and defunct charities that were implicated in funding Hamas, analyst Jonathan Schanzer of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies told members of Congress during testimony Tuesday afternoon when two subcommittees of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs met to discuss current threats to Israel.

During testimony, experts including Schanzer highlighted regional nonstate actors such as Iran and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) as key threats to Israel.

The chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation and Trade, Ted Poe, described the BDS movement as "a threat which seeks [Israel’s] ultimate destruction."

Schanzer, a former terror finance analyst for the US Treasury, presented open-source research conducted by his group, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies which highlighted a network linking Hamas supporters with the leadership of the BDS movement.

The research tracked employees of three now-defunct organizations ‐ the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, Kind Hearts Foundation for Humanitarian Development and the Islamic Association for Paleostine -- all of which were implicated by the federal government for terrorism finance, specifically of Hamas. A federal court found that the Holy Land Foundation had sent some $12 million to Hamas over the course of a decade

The research yielded what Schanzer described as "a troubling outcome" ‐ with seven key employees of these organizations now associated with the Illinois-based organization American Muslims for Paleostine.

Schanzer told members of Congress that the latter is "arguably the leading BDS organization in the US, a key sponsor of the anti-Israel campus network known as Students for Justice in Paleostine." The organization, he said, provides money, speakers, training and even "apartheid walls" to SJP activists on campus, for the annual Israel Apartheid Week events.

"The overlap between AMP, Holy Land, Kind Hearts and the Islamic Association for Paleostine is striking," said Schanzer, but noted that "our open source research did not indicate that AMP or any of these individuals are currently involved in any illegal activity."

"The BDS campaign may pose a threat to Israel, but the network I describe here is decidedly an American problem," he warned. Americans for Justice in Paleostine raises money as a transparent 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit, which then provides funds for AMP which has the usually temporary designation of a corporate non-profit ‐ a status that is usually transitional en route to a tax-exempt 501c3 organization.

"There appear to be flaws in the federal and state oversight of non-profits charities," Schanzer complained. Although advocating for increased transparency, Schanzer said that he had a sense from talking to former colleagues that the Treasury was less invested in uncovering charities serving to fund terror networks than in the past.

"BDS advocates are free to say what they want, true or false, but tax advantaged organizations are obliged to be transparent," Schanzer told the panel. "Americans have a right to know who is leading the BDS campaign and so do the students who may not be aware of AMP’s leaders or their goals."

#1  US-funding of Hamas dates practically from the date it was founded. In the early nineteen nineties Saudi and Gulf state funds were funneled through the New Jersey BMI, an Islamic investment bank, and the bogus Palestinian Occupied Land Fund operating out of Los Angeles. The Fund changed its name to Holy Land Foundation in 1992 and continued to operate for years.

Don't Negotiate With Taliban, Eliminate Them: Residents
[Tolo News] Relatives of those killed and injured in Tuesday's blast have blasted government for not providing a safe environment for Afghans.

The relatives said however they have lost all hope in government. They also said government must eliminate the Taliban and forget about trying to get the murderous Moslem group to join the peace talks process.

Relatives of the victims said on Tuesday the attack was un-Islamic.

"Every day we hear about people being killed, groups of people are killed every day. People are helpless and homeless and I really feel sorry for such a reckless government," said Wakil Yar Mohammad Khan father of Hashmatullah, one of Tuesday's victims.

Arabia
Why are Muslim countries poor?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] One of the favorite tropes of radical Islamists is that Muslims all over the world are being oppressed and held back by Western Crusaders and Zionists. The reason why more than one billion Muslims live in poverty and deprivation cannot be anything but the fault of evil forces who wish to undermine Islam.
Weren't they poor and oppressed and such when the Europeans took over their governance?
This, I have argued again and again, is nonsense and wishful thinking. Though there are systematic imbalances in the global economic system which are greatly unfavourable to many Muslim countries, those same imbalances strongly favor other Muslim countries: think of all the wealth of Muslim countries and geopolitical power that brings.
Sitting on large puddles of oil should bring in a bit of money for Moslem countries. If the money goes to the rulers and not to the populace that's tough luck, not our fault.
And if the reason why so many Muslims are poor and oppressed, why are they just as poor and even more oppressed in just those countries with the largest natural resources? Is it Zionists and Crusaders that treat like slaves millions of Pak and Bangladeshi migrant construction workers in the Muslim countries? Is it Zionists and Crusaders who kill Muslim civilians in droves, in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Pakistain, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and so many other countries?

And last, but not least, is it Zionists and Crusaders who plunder the wealth of Muslim countries? Perhaps that was once the case, in the heyday of Western colonial expansion in the Middle East. But that was well over half a century ago. The world has moved on. And now those countries are plundered by their own political and military leaders.

The Pak example is particularly close to my heart ‐ as I am very familiar most of the players. But in a country with some of the worst illiteracy and poverty rates in the world, its leaders over last few decades from all parties have managed to buy some of the most expensive real estate in the world in London and elsewhere. And not just for themselves but for their children too.

Alleviating poverty
Now leaders from all over the world have been caught up in scandals. But say what you want about the Chinese politburo, they have first made their country wealthy, and only after started pilfering away public funds.

They have built their country’s infrastructure, they have built one of the best education systems in the world, have raised hundreds of millions of people out of poverty through sheer hard work, not just with the good luck of having ample natural resources, and built the world’s second-most important economy ‐ and then they took a few million dollars here and there for themselves and their families.

Now compare this to Muslim leaders. In countries that 50 years ago were in much, much better shape than China, three generations of leaders have plundered their countries dry of billions, have destroyed some very good education systems in the process, and have kept getting into wars which precipitated the destruction of whatever infrastructure was left from the colonial era.

So who do we have to blame for the woes of the Muslim world? Do you still believe it is the fault of colonial powers and American neo-imperialism? It would be convenient if that were the case.

Especially since that way we are excused from doing anything about it ourselves. But the true reasons for the state in which the Muslim world finds itself today are rather closer to home: the venal, corrupt leaders, but also, our indolent, passive societies.
Building wealthy, developed societies requires hard work, dedication, integrity, and commitment to making a good life for all of us in our societies. Too many Muslims would rather skip all that and just blame someone else for why their country is not as dynamic as China, or as wealthy as the West.
Too heavy a reliance on string music ?

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel says it is giving Jordan, Egypt intel help against ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israel provides Jordan and Egypt with intelligence assistance in their fight against ISIS, a senior Israeli military officer said on Wednesday, describing the US-backed Arab neighbors as stable despite the bad boy threat.

Egypt made peace with Israel in 1979, followed by Jordan in 1994. They are the only Arab countries to have treaties with Israel, a matter unpopular with many Egyptians and Jordanians and which generally keeps Amman and Cairo quiet about the ties.

Major-General Yair Golan, deputy commander of the Israeli armed forces, said in a briefing that the countries were working with Israel as they try to beat back Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
"Egypt fights ISIS in the Sinai peninsula. Jordan is terrified by the presence of ISIS in Jordan’s cities and towns. And we try to work with them in order to contribute something to their security," he said.

The help, Golan told the Foreign Press Association in Jerusalem, came "mainly by providing our intelligence, and you do know that while fighting all sorts of insurgency, intelligence is the most important element in the whole system."

Despite deeming this military cooperation as unprecedented, Golan cautioned: "I wouldn’t describe that as some sort of reconciliation between the people. But it is a good starting point and I’m quite optimistic concerning that."

The Israeli general described Jordan as stable, though it has seen major refugee influxes from Syria and Iraq even as it watches those frontiers for Death Eater infiltration.

Egypt’s large population and economic struggles during recent political chaos present a greater challenge, he said.

"I am quite optimistic about the future of Egypt, but I think that we are going to experience, or they are going to experience, you know, a crisis along the way," Golan said.

Mass killer Anders Breivik threatens hunger strike for better video games, end of ‘torture’
[EURONEWS] Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik has threatened to start a hunger strike over his living conditions in jail, it has emerged.

Breivik, who killed 77 people in 2011, compared prison to "torture" and bemoaned, among other things, the lack of an up-to-date video games console in his cell.

His comments were made in a four-page hand-written letter to penitentiary officials, which contains a dozen requests, including making his jail time compliant with European regulations. They also tackle issues of fundamental rights, such as a daily walk and communication.

Taliban suffer heavy casualties in operations led by Gen. Dostum in Jawzjan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
has returned to the battlefield in northern Jawzjan province as local officials report the Taliban bandidos krazed killers have suffered heavy casualties.

Provincial governor’s front man Mohammad Reza Ghafoori said at least 30 Taliban bandidos krazed killers have been killed and nearly 40 others have sustained injuries during the operations.

He said the operations are being conducted in Aqcha district but the Office of the Vice President reported that 5 villages have been cleared of the gunnies so far.

The operations were launched around 5:00 am local time today and clearance operations are underway after the gunnies were forced to flee the area, the Office of the Vice President said.

In the meantime, Ghafoori said, a commander of the Taliban group, identified as Mullah Rasool was killed and the group’s shadow district governor for Aqcha was injured.

He said operations are also underway in Qosh Tapa district where majority of the gunnies have suffered casualties.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Jawzjan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed gunnies are actively operating in a number of its districts.

India-Pakistan
India Buys French Rafale
India has agreed to buy a slew of advanced fighter jets from France. The deal, worth $8.8 billion, will provide India with 36 Rafale multi-role fighters for a staggering average cost of $244 million each.
And you thought the F-35 was expensive...
The Dassault Rafale was conceived in the early 1980s to be one multi-role fighter that could replace six different fighter and attack aircraft. The plane is almost completely French, with fuselage, avionics, engines and weapons all made in that country. Rafales have flown in combat in Afghanistan, Libya, Mail and Iraq. France operates 140 Rafales including the Rafale M, a navy version of the fighter featuring strengthened landing gear and a tail hook for use on aircraft carriers.

Although relatively small compared to planes like the Eurofighter Typhoon and F-22 Raptor, Rafale packs a powerful punch. Twelve wing-mounted hard points can carry a combination of air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, sensors, and drop tanks. Despite the fact that the Rafale is now a 30-year-old design, upgrades such as the RBE2 AA active electronic scanning array (AESA) radar, Damocles targeting pod, Meteor air-to-air missiles, and SCALP cruise missiles have kept the design competitive with other so-called "4+ generation" fighters.

Still, $244 million per aircraft is a lot of money. Why does Rafale cost so much? Exchange rates almost certainly play a role. And in addition to the plane itself, there's also a need for support and maintenance equipment and munitions. Part of the problem with Rafale is that aside from Paveway laser-guided bombs, it uses mostly French weapons that are incompatible with the rest of India's stockpile.

India is only the third international customer for Rafale. While the fighter has been on the market for decades, Rafale's first overseas sale happened just recently when Qatar bought 24 planes and Egypt followed shortly thereafter. Rafale will be a strong candidate to replace Canada's aging F/A-18 Hornet fighters when those need to retire.
Wonder why the Indians didn't select the F-16V...

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas claims bus bomber
[Ynet] Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, claims the Jerusalem bus bomber as one of their operatives after the terrorist's death. Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
family of the terrorist hands out sweets and sings praise of the 'operation.'

The terrorist who set off a bomb on the 12 line bus injuring 21 people died of his wounds at Sha'are Tzedek Medical Center in Jerusalem Wednesday.

Hamas claimed the terrorist, a 19 year old Paleostinian from the Aida refugee camp next to Bethlehem, as one of their operatives.

Hamas made its announcement through its front man in Bethlehem. The operative's name is currently under gag order.

Due to the fact that the Paleostinian man was injured along with others in the blast, he wasn't immediately recognized as the terrorist responsible for the attack. This led Sherlocks to initially believe that the kaboom was the work of a jacket wallah, as a body could not be found.

Over 100 members of the terrorist's family are handing out sweets and singing songs of praise in light of the fact that he became a martyr and because he carried out a successful attack against Israeli citizens.

Additionally, a cousin of the terrorist was killed in a riot attacking Israeli security forces three months ago.

Sources within the Paleostinian security services reported that the Paleostinian who committed the attack was known to them, and was even placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
by them in 2014. The sources then said that the terrorist left his house in the Aida refugee camp on Monday, and that his family reported to the police the next day that he was missing.
The Times of Israel adds:
The source, who is familiar with the al-Ayda camp, offered some details about the suspect.

The suspect comes from one of the most prominent clans in the Bethlehem area. "If you say [his family name] in Bethlehem, seven people turn around," said the source, who asked not to be named.

"His cousin was recently killed by the IDF (during festivities) on the border (the pre-1967 line) between Bethlehem and Beit Jalah," the source said.

The suspected terrorist’s family did not believe his cousin was involved in the festivities, which took place in mid-January. Instead they claim he was an innocent bystander, passing through the area on his way to university, when he was shot in the chest, the source said.

"The entire family was definitely impacted by this," he said.

At a mourning event for the cousin, the suspect was "angry," the source said.

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
the source doubted the 19-year-old could manufacture his own explosives and instead believed the suspect had been recruited by Hamas to carry out the attack.

“This kid was a very typical kid. The last time I saw him we were sitting on the street, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes,” the source said.

If the suspect was indeed responsible for the bombing, he would not be the first terrorist in the family.

At least two of his relatives, Nasser Hasan Abdul-Hamid Abu Srour and Mahmoud Jamil Hasan Abu Srour, were released as part of the Gilad Shalit deal, which saw the release of 1,027 convicted Lions of Islam in order to bring the kidnapped soldier back to Israel.

Other members of the family, however, are said to be more closely tied to Fatah and hold positions within the United Nation’s Workers Relief Agency, the source said.

Russian envoy: ISIS in Afghanistan eyes expansion to Central Asia and Russia
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Russian Presidential Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
ov has said the loyalists of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan are looking to expand to Central Asia and Russia.

Kabulov, who is also the head of the Asia and Middle East department of the Russian foreign ministry, said the number of the loyalists of the terror group has significantly increased in Afghanistan.

"There are now 10,000 IS fighters in Afghanistan. A year ago there was a hundred. This growth over a year is spectacular," he told news hounds.

Kabulov further added "The Afghan branch of IS is definitely specialized against Central Asia. Russian is even one of their working languages," Kabulov added. "They are being trained against Central Asia and Russia."

The remarks by Kabulov comes as a front man for the US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan earlier said the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group has the potential to be an ’enormous’ threat in Afghanistan.

The chief of communications for the coalition, Brigadier General Charles Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone,

, has said the threat exists despite the group has received major setbacks during the recent months, pointing towards the growing US forces Arclight airstrikes against the loyalists of the terror group.

"Obviously, we’ve all seen them, how rapidly they are able to spread, in other parts of the world," Gen. Cleveland said during a briefing at Pentagon.

According to Gen. Cleveland, between January and March, the United States has carried out 70 to 80 Arclight airstrikes against ISIS in Afghanistan.

Massoud Calls For Execution Of Militants On Death Row
[Tolo News] President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
's Special Representative on Reform and Good Governance, Ahmad Ziad Massoud, called on the president to sign off on the execution orders of murderous Moslems on death row.

"We have murderous Moslems in our prisons, who have been sentenced to death and who are engineering suicide kabooms. The president should sign off on their execution," he said.

Massoud also said that some elements inside government might have been involved in Tuesday's deadly attack that claimed the lives of at least 64 people and maimed over 340.

He urged security organizations to clear government bodies of Taliban agents.

He said government must adopt a similar approach to the Taliban and suppress bad boys.

"Taliban have penetrated into our security and civil organizations and have paved the ground to carry out their cowardly attacks. Tuesday's attack was the same. Reforms should be brought to security organizations and factors behind the infiltration of the Taliban should end. Unless we seriously fight and eliminate these elements from inside [government], this situation will continue," said Massoud.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, a little lightbulb figuratively appeared over Bossy's head...
former chief of the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS), Rahmatullah Nabil, said in reaction to Tuesday's bombing that if government is true to its people in the fight against terrorism, then it should execute Anas Haqqani, brother of the network's new leader, Sarajuddin Haqqani, who was sentenced to death on terrorism charges just over a year ago.

Haqqani was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
in Doha, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, around 15 months ago and was extradited to Afghanistan where he was sentenced to death.

It is said that the so-called spy chief of Haqqani network, through mediation of Sayed Hamid Gailani, deputy leader of Mahaz Milli Islami Party, has visited Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
four times to negotiate the release of Haqqani allegedly with the National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

"We have a government. We have a system and we have a judiciary. If the court has given them the death penalty and they have been found guilty, we have nothing to say. However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
there should be no accusation. Don't spuriously accuse me and Atmar for this. I reject this," said Gailani.

He stressed the need for the continuation of peace talks with Taliban leaders.

A number of former officials meanwhile said that not executing murderous Moslems who have been sentenced to death will negatively affect the morale of security forces.

"It's good that Anas Haqqani hasn't been released so far. Existence of a large number of murderous Moslems in prisons and keeping them for years, who have already been sentenced to death, will create desperation among security forces," said Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, a former deputy minister at the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

Massoud meanwhile stressed that former Jihadi forces can play an effective role in ensuring the security of Afghanistan.

Attack on Intelligence Unit Carried Out By Haqqani
[Tolo News] Tuesday's deadly attack on the intelligence unit tasked with the protection of VIPs was reportedly carried out by the Haqqani Network, said officials Wednesday.

Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan.
NDS Chief Mohammad Omar Azizi said at a presser in Kabul that the attack was organized outside the country.

In Tuesday's attack 64 people were killed and 347 were maimed.

The question being asked however is how did a truck, loaded with explosives, reach the intelligence unit, which is part of the greater ring of steel within Kabul city?

In a bid to test the level of security within the city, Sharif Amiri, TOLOnews' correspondent, on Wednesday traveled through the heart of the capital in the same type of truck used in Tuesday's bombing.

Amiri traveled a distance of seven kilometers, from Pul-e-Charkhi in east Kabul and went through five check posts.

Not once was the truck stopped and searched.

"From which way they came? Have there been neglected duty? Or enemy used their especial tactics?," said Abdul Rahman Rahimi Kabul Police Chief.

Asked who was behind the attack, Kabul NDS Chief Mohammad Omar Azizi said: "The group have across borders connections which is clear for all of us, we are working on this issue and after completion of investigations we will let know the journalists,".

Meanwhile,
...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio had his hands full of angry bleached blonde...
the blast site was still cordoned off to the public on Wednesday.

Despite numerous attempts to view the intelligence unit, the closest Amiri could get was to Eid Gah mosque, which is the second largest mosque in Kabul, and is adjacent to the blast site.

According to mosque officials, the mosque sustained over $500,000 UDS worth of damage in the blast. They said reconstruction work will take at least a year.

"Not only in Kabul but in provinces mosques and religious scholars were targeted and this is an act of inhuman and non-Islamic and we condemn it," said Deputy Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs, Daee-ul-Haq Abid.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
The terror academy
[Ynet] Al-Quds University in Abu Dis has been home to a terrorist who perpetrated a stabbing attack, a cell that planned suicide kabooms, massive violent protests, and ceremonies to commemorate murderous terrorists.

Al-Quds University (AQU) in Abu Dis, where some members of the next generation of Paleostinian doctors and academics are studying, has become a terrorism nest during the latest wave of violence. Mohand Halabi, who killed Nahmia Lavi and Aaron Bennett in the current terror wave's first stabbing attack, was a law student at the university.

Halabi has since become one of the current escalation's main symbols in the eyes of Paleostinians. The first few months of the terror wave saw massive violent protests in AQU. Students attempted to break down the university-adjacent border fence and confronted Israeli Border Police on a nearly daily basis.

Some of them have also been actively involved in terrorism. Several AQU students established an explosive lab in Abu Dis, intending to perpetrate suicide kabooms as well as non-suicide kabooms. The Shin Bet, along with the IDF and the Israel Police, has exposed the existence of a large Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terrorist presence in the town.

The student terrorist cell was exposed when Givati Brigade soldiers discovered an explosives lab in Abu Dis, as well as a store in Ramallah that was supplying it with chemicals. Duvdevan (an IDF special operation unit that operates undercover among the Paleostinian population) and Yamam (Israel Police SWAT unit) forces later raided the homes of the cell's members and took them in for questioning. Their commander, Ahmed Gamal Moussa Azzam, had been communicating with his superiors in Gazoo, from whom he also received training and instruction in the preparation of explosives.

Afghanistan
Key Taliban commander killed with his 12 militants in Ghazni province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A key Taliban capo was killed with his 12 fighters in southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan, security officials said Wednesday.

The Taliban capo identified as Mullah Yousuf was killed during a special military operation conducted by the Afghan cops.

Sediq Sediq, front man for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), confirmed the killing of the key Taliban capo but did not provide further information regarding the exact location where the raid was conducted.

The Taliban group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Ghazni is among the relatively volatile provinces in southeastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed murderous Moslem groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

The killing of Mullah Yousuf comes as the group has stepped up insurgency activities across the country since they announced their spring offensive earlier last week.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, Jack stuck the cigar in his mouth, stepped onto the gantry, and asked Got a light, Mac?

the Afghan forces have also stepped up counter-terrorism operations in a bid to repulse and thwart attacks by the Taliban group.

Swedish politician quits after refusing to shake women's hands
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Swedish Green Party politician, who ignited a storm of controversy after refusing to shake hands with a female news hound on grounds that it violated his Muslim faith, announced on Wednesday that he was quitting politics.

Yasri Khan is the second Muslim Green Party politician to resign in acrimony this week.

During an interview with a female news hound from TV4 on Tuesday, Khan placed his hand over his heart instead of shaking her hand in greeting.

"People can greet each other in different ways. The most important thing is to show respect by seeing each other, to meet each other ... to respect each other," Khan said during an interview with state broadcaster Swedish Radio.

Khan, also the general secretary of the organization Swedish Muslims for Peace and Justice, has faced strong criticism from within his party since the incident.

"It is unacceptable. You can’t have a man in the party who can’t greet women in the same way you greet a man. I’m upset," Stina Bergstrom, a Green Party parliamentarian, told Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet.

In an article published by the news website Nyheter24, Khan lashed out at his critics but did not specifically say why he was resigning.

"In today’s political climate, I wonder if politics is right for me, and if I want to be a media circus clown," he said.

Earlier this week, former housing minister Mehmet Kaplan, a Muslim of Turkish origin, resigned from government after media published old footage of him making controversial remarks about Israel’s politics towards Paleostinians.

Women, children among six hacked to death
[DAWN] SHEIKHUPURA: Six members of a family, including two women and two children, were hacked to death by person or persons unknown in Saoul village, 50km from here, on Tuesday.

Brothers Ibrahim and Saleem, Sharafat Bibi, Shumaila Bibi and children Amjad and an unidentified girl child after harvesting wheat crop were on their way home. When they were hardly 200 metres away from their residence, some unidentified attackers overpowered them, slit their throats and threw their bodies in a nearby field.

Later, the bodies were spotted by passersby. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the motive behind the murder could not be ascertained until the filing of this report.

Farooqabad Saddar police reached the spot and started an investigation.

Man summoned by JuD ‘sharia court’ moves LHC
[DAWN] LAHORE: A property developer summoned by ’Shariat Court’ of Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
(JuD) on a complaint regarding a monetary dispute has moved the Lahore High Court, seeking action against Qazi (judge) of the organization’s ’court’ for running a parallel judicial system.

Khalid Saeed of Samanabad has made interior secretary, federal law minister, Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

chief secretary, Punjab IG, Lahore CCPO and Qazi Hafiz Idrees of JuD parties in the petition filed through Advocate Maqbool Hussain Sheikh.

The petitioner says he received summons written on the letter pad of ’Darul Qaza Al-Sharia’ Jamat-ud-Dawa, Masjid Al-Qadsia, Chauburji, Lahore, with a direction to appear before its ’arbitration court of Sharia’.

He says the summons was issued to him on the complaint of Muhammad Azam.

The summons warned that in case of non-appearance no excuse would be considered and the petitioner would be proceeded against in accordance with Sharia law, the petition stated.

He alleged that he also received telephone calls from the JuD "court" Qazi in "threatening tone", asking him to appear before him.

He said that applications were submitted to the government functionaries (respondents) and Chief Justice of Pakistain against the illegal summons but remained unanswered.

The petitioner urged the court to order the respondent authorities to look into the matter and take action against the organization for committing illegal acts and for subverting the Constitution by establishing a parallel judicial system.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan issued notices to the respondents for April 26.
