Russia's 'Obama' Ice Cream
h/t Instapundit
A Russian company is trying to cash in on chilly relations between Moscow and Washington by releasing an ice cream called "Little Obama", irritating U.S. officials.

The product, called "Obamka" in Russian, is glazed with chocolate and its wrapping features an image of a smiling young African boy, wearing an ear ring and holding an ice cream.
Lucky for them, Russia doesn't have German laws

#1  The Russians think it's clever to photoshop pix of our African American president to show him eating a banana. They also hit a reggae-style hit pop song called "They killed another N____". Cute.

Someone needs to remind them that their national poet was, um, African.

British SAS capture 3 Isis kak saks in daring lightning raids VIC Mosul
[Intl Bus Times] British SAS troopers have successfully kidnapped three Islamic State (Isis) chiefs in daring lightning raids in Mosul, according to reports. The city is the largest in Iraq still under Isis (Daesh) control, but is facing increased pressure from the north, south and east by the Iraqi army, Kurdish Peshmerga forces and US-led Western airstrikes.

British special forces, including the Special Air Service (SAS), have been operating in Iraq in conjunction with other western forces to help plot attacks on the militants, with snipers taking out high-level members of the terror group on several occasions.

#2  You won't find out because the SAS is so black no one knows much of anything about who they are or what they do. I think they brief the PM AFTER they've pulled a raid rather than before.

Their security is about as tight as it gets.

And you can bet that they are interrogating the piss out of these clowns...waterboarding is NOT off the table for the SAS.

Champ's last act is to force suburbs to be less white and less wealthy
[NYP] Hillary's rumored running mate, Housing Secretary Julian Castro, is cooking up a scheme to reallocate funding for Section 8 housing to punish suburbs for being too white and too wealthy.
Because eliminating 'white' and 'wealthy' from urban America has had such splendid results.
The scheme involves super-sizing vouchers to help urban poor afford higher rents in pricey areas, such as Westchester County, while assigning them government real-estate agents called "mobility counselors" to secure housing in the exurbs.

Castro plans to launch the Section 8 reboot this fall, even though a similar program tested a few years ago in Dallas has been blamed for shifting violent crime to affluent neighborhoods.

It’s all part of a grand scheme to forcibly desegregate inner cities and integrate the outer suburbs.

Anticipating NIMBY resistance, Castro last month threatened to sue suburban landlords for discrimination if they refuse even Section 8 tenants with criminal records. And last year, he implemented a powerful new regulation -- "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing" -- that pressures all suburban counties taking federal grant money to change local zoning laws to build more low-income housing (landlords of such properties are required to accept Section 8 vouchers).

Castro is expected to finalize the new regulation, known as "Small-Area Fair Market Rents" (SAFMR), this October, in the last days of the Obama presidency.

#4  It will fail. The people will not want to leave their hood. The people of the hood will say,"what are you better than us". With the destruction of the family who will these people be, felons, immigrants?. Once there what transportation will be provided. They will not be working so how will their situation improve. This liberal dream is very old. Individuals have tried this before and it fails. They will not fit in. They will not become a part of the community. It can only work if others pay for everything. The basic reason for failure is no family units. Just multi people units. So you go off to work. Crime goes way up because you didn't earn that. They bring their beliefs not integration. We had a liberal try this. Constantly causing one problem after an another. Never satisfied, never happy. Raw sewage dumped in their yard for recycling. Low income apartments, it all failed.

Kerry Advises Fancypants College Grads To Expect '€BORDERLESS WORLD
[Daily Caller] Speaking at Northeastern University commencement ceremonies on Friday morning, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry advised newly-minted graduates that the world is on its way to becoming "borderless" and that the critical issues of our time are terrorism, poverty and, of course, climate change.

"I am honored this morning to address a university family that thankfully is one very utterly unafraid to look beyond our borders and into the future," told a Boston Garden crowd of about 25,000, reports The Boston Globe.

Kerry advised graduates that a border wall would not deny entry to terrorists.

"Many of you were in elementary school when you learned the toughest lesson of all on 9/11," he said, according to The Washington Examiner. "There are no walls big enough to stop people from anywhere, tens of thousands of miles away, who are determined to take their own lives while they target others."

Vice's Toure: '€˜We' as Black People Struggle With White Supremacy
[Breitbart] Saturday on MSNBC, Vice magazine columnist Toure explained how Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ message on class does not resonate with black people because their problems include "dealing with white supremacy and white privilege."

"For a lot of black people, that message doesn’t resonate because we understand our problems are greater than class. Our problems are about dealing with white supremacy and white privilege. Those things are not superseded by when you get a good job or get into the middle class or even the upper class.
There are a fair number of middle-class blacks, and while life might not be peaches and cream for them, the good jobs and money do help them pursue their own happiness. Which is what it's supposed to be about...
So, he’s not dealing with a central problem for us. We understand that this class-based argument is not -- it leaves us cold a bit because it’s not the entire story."
Spot on Mr. Toure! Opportunity, employment, and attaining upper class status are definitely NOT the solution. Zimbabweification and Nationalism are the solutions.
Mr. Toure wants American blacks to have their own shithole of a place to live. And he wants to be Mr. Big...

The family that terrorizes together...
[AnNahar] A Moroccan court has sentenced the younger brother of suspected Gay Paree attacks ringleader Abdelhamid Abaaoud to two years in prison on charges including justifying terrorism, state media reported.

According to his lawyer, Yassine Abaaoud was unaware of the activities of his brother, who was killed in a French police raid just days after the November 13 attacks that killed 130 people in Gay Paree.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
No holds are barred as Israel battles for a one billion dollar defense deal
IN EARLY April, the Defense Ministry published last year’s figures for weapon sales, which totaled $5.7 billion, almost the same as in 2014. This keeps Israel among the top 10 military exporters in the world even though arms sales comprise just six percent of its annual exports of goods and services.

Nearly 40 percent of annual weapons exports are to Asia, in particular India, which is Israel’s second-largest single market after the US.

Defense Ministry officials hope, however, that after the two years of relative stagnation in weapons sales, the figures will rise in 2016. In 2012 sales reached $7.4 billion.

This hope is based on two recent major developments in India and Poland.

is reportedly turning to low-tech solutions in its efforts to avoid detection.

The Telegraph reported that homing pigeons bearing messages between IS operatives were recently captured by Jordanian forces.

"The jihadists tied a letter with a phone number to the foot of the bird, which was flying to a Jordanian resident," the commander of the country’s border guard, Brig. Gen Saber al-Mahayreh, told journalists.

According to the Telegraph, Western nations are concerned over intensified IS efforts to encrypt communications through apps such as Telegram and Whatsapp, that make it harder for intelligence bodies to acquire information.

Israel strikes Hamas targets in Gaza after rocket fire on south
[IsraelTimes] Terror group claims IAF raid hit brickworks in Khan Younis, but witnesses say Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, military wing struck, causing significant damage

Israeli fighter jets struck Hamas targets in the southern Gazoo Strip early Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces said, following rocket fire from the Paleostinian enclave at an Israeli population center close to the border.

"Earlier today... a rocket was fired from the Gazoo Strip at southern Israel," an IDF statement read. "In response... aircraft targeted two Hamas terror infrastructures in the southern Gazoo Strip."

It was Israel’s fifth series of Arclight airstrikes since Wednesday, when tensions spiraled over IDF efforts to locate attack tunnels dug by Hamas from Gazoo into Israeli territory.
The one reported yesterday was the fourth -- I double checked to make sure this story was not a duplicate.
One of the two rockets fired from Gazoo landed in an open area of the Eshkol regional council overnight Friday-Saturday. The second fell close to the border fence, Army Radio said. There were no injuries or damage reported in either strike. Air raid sirens sounded across the region as the rockets were fired.

Hamas security sources said the IAF raid hit two brickworks in the southern city of Khan Younis, causing damage but no casualties. But witnesses said two missiles hit a base of Hamas’s military wing east of the city, causing significant damage.

The incident comes after the IAF carried out raids on Hamas targets in the Strip on Friday, following mortar fire directed at IDF soldiers earlier in the day, in tit-for-tat exchanges of fire between Hamas and Israel. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Afghanistan to receive 12 MD-530s upgraded with rocket pods from US
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan Air Force (AAF) will receive 12 additional MD-530 helicopters from the United States upgraded with the rocket pods.

According to the AAF officials, the delivery of the helicopters will begin in next month and will be completed over a period of 3 months.

The commander of the Afghan Air Force General Abdul Wahab Wardak said four helicopters will be each months from June to August.

The US army reportedly awarded a contract worth $13.2 million to add the seven-tube M260 launcher for the 70mm (2.75 inch) rockets to MD-530Fs to be supplied by the United States to the Afghan Air Force.

According to the reports emerging in mid-2015, 19 helicopters in total will have the rocket system added to the Mission Equipment Package (MEP) that already features twin FN Herstal 12.7 mm (.50 cal) Heavy Machine Gun Pods (HMPs).

MD-530F helicopters are designed for high altitude and/or hot weather operations to provide close-air support to the ground forces.

Meanwhile,

28 militants killed, 30 wounded as major Taliban attack repulsed in Kunar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least 28 Talibs were killed and 30 others were maimed as the Afghan cops repulsed a major offensive by the Taliban group in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
According to the local officials, scores of Taliban murderous Moslems launched the attack in the early hours of Saturday to take control of security posts in Ghaziabad district.

The provincial governor Wahidullah Kalimzai however said the attack was launched late on Friday night and continued for several hours.

He said a member of the Afghan National Army lost his life and three others were maimed in the attack.

The Taliban group front man Zabiullah Mujahid has claimed that two Talibs were killed and five others were maimed during the shootout with the Afghan forces.

Mujahid also claimed that eleven soldiers of the Afghan National Army were killed and several others were maimed during the clash.

Kunar is among the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed forces of Evil are actively operating in its various districts.

The province is also home of various foreign murderous Moslems as they are routinely crossing the Durand Line from the tribal regions of Pakistain to stage attacks.

The coordinated attack on security posts in Kunar comes as the Taliban group announced its summer offensive earlier last month and vowed to carry out more attacks across the country.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia says truce in Syria's Aleppo extended for 3 days
A fragile cease-fire in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo has been extended for 72 hours, Russia ordered said, as Daesh battled other militant factions near the city on Saturday.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the extension was made at Moscow's initiative and would also apply to the coastal province of Latakia. The ceasefire will now last until 12:01 am. on Tuesday (2101GMT Monday).

Russia and the US last week reached an agreement to extend Syria's ceasefire to Aleppo, which had seen days of heavy fighting that killed 286 civilians, including 57 children, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitor. The Syrian military had earlier said the ceasefire in Aleppo would last only 48 hours.

The Russian military accused the Syrian Al Qaeda affiliate, known as the Nusra Front, of attempting to destroy the ceasefire by carrying out attacks on Aleppo and trying to impose a blockade on the city from the south.

On Friday, a coalition of insurgents, including the Nusra Front, seized the nearby village of Khan Touman from pro-government forces, activists said. The Nusra Front and Daesh are not included in the ceasefire.
Which is why they're fighting. You'd think even the Russians could figure that one out...
The Observatory and the other groups said Aleppo was relatively quiet after the ceasefire was extended but reported heavy fighting between Daesh and other militant groups in the northern parts of Aleppo province, near the border with Turkey.

The Observatory, which relies on a network of activists inside Syria, said Daesh captured two villages in the region in clashes that killed least 12 militants. The Local Coordination Committees, an activist-run collective, said the fighting is now concentrated near the northern villages of Dalha, Harjaleh and Hiwar Kilis.

Afghan army helicopter makes emergency landing in Kandahar, no casualties reported
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A helicopter of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces made a emergency landing in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, local officials said Saturday.

Provincial governor’s front man Samim Khpolwak said the incident took place late on Friday in Shahwali Kot district.

He said the helicopter was providing logistics to the Afghan armed forces when it made emergency landing due to technical problems.

Khpolwal further added that security personnel on board the helicopter did not suffer any casualties.

The Taliban group claimed that the helicopter was shot down by the group’s fighters and all on board were killed after it crashed.

Hoewever, the local officials have rejected the Taliban claims as baseless.

This comes as an Afghan army helicopter was forced to perform emergency landing in a similar incident in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
of Afghanistan late in the month of March.

The emergency landing of the helicopter in Kandahar comes as the Afghan forces are busy in suppressing the insurgency activities of the Taliban group.

The defense officials said last week at least 32 turbans were killed and 18 others were maimed during a raid by the Afghan forces in this province.

Pir’s disciple slaughtered in Rajshahi
[Dhaka Tribune] An elderly follower of a Pir or Muslim preacher has been slaughtered in a mango grove at Tanor upazila in Rajshahi.

The victim, Mohammad Shahidullah, 55, is the son of late Habibur Rahman of Mohanandakhali area of Nouhata under Poba Upazila. He was a follower of Pir Imam Mahdi from Goalanda in Rajbari district.

He was found slit throat in a mango orchard owned by homoeopathic doctor Abul Hasan in Jhumarpara village of Tanor on Friday evening. Police recovered the body on information and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College for post-mortem examination.

Victim’s son Russel Ahmed filed a case with Tanor police yesterday morning. He mentioned that his father had land-related conflict with Shajahan and Piar Ali of Nouhata for the last one decade.

Tanor police OC Abdur Razzaq told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday that they were trying to find the motive of the murder and had already started drives to arrest the culprits.

"The victim was hit by a sharp weapon in the throat," Razzaq said, adding that there was no involvement of snuffies in the attack.

On January 9, Rajshahi College political science student Dablu Hembron was slaughtered at his house at Mondumala Moyenpur village of Tanore. He went home after completing master’s examination. Police are yet to solve the mystery.

Since last year around 30 people including Hindu and Christian preachers, Pirs and their followers, teachers, secularists and war crimes trial activists have been killed in attacks by machete-wielding snuffies in Dhaka and elsewhere. Rajshahi University teacher Prof AFM Rezaul Karim Siddique was hacked to death near his house in the city's Shalbagan area on April 23.

Afghanistan faces tough battle as Haqqanis unify the Taliban
[Ynet] A shadowy, Pakistain-based hard boy faction is on the rise within the Taliban after its leader was appointed deputy and played a key role in unifying the fractured insurgency.

The ascendency of the Haqqani network, a US-designated terrorist organization, could significantly strengthen the Taliban and herald another summer of fierce fighting in Afghanistan. The firepower it brings to the Taliban was shown by a Kabul

bombing last month that killed 64 people, the deadliest in the Afghan capital in years, which experts say was too sophisticated for the bully boyz to have carried out without the Haqqanis.

The network's role could also further poison already tainted relations between Islamabad and Kabul. Afghanistan is pressing Pakistain to crack down on the Haqqanis, accusing it of tolerating the group, a charge the Paks deny.

Horrific video shows Taliban publicly killing woman over adultery
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A horrific video has emerged online which purportedly shows the execution of a woman by the Talibs in northern Jawzjan province.

The woman was reportedly executed in Khanqa village in Aqcha district with the footage showing the woman is forced to kneel in a dessert before she is rubbed out.

The execution is carried out by a Taliban bully boy who has covered his face with a scarf and shooting the woman with an Ak-47 rifle from behind.
O brave, brave Lion of Islam!
The local officials have not commented regarding the report so far to confirm the exact date and location of the incident.

The brutal killing of the woman refreshes the savagery of the group while they were ruling the country in early 90s.

The group executed a woman in a stadium in capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. in a similar way which sparked international condemnation.

The group still continues to try convicts in desert courts in areas where they have influence and publicly execute the convicts after they are awarded death sentence.

The latest video is followed amid concerns by the rights organizations that the condition of the women in northern parts of the country is rapidly getting worse amid deteriorating security situation.

Benghazi demonstrators killed as militants shell pro-LNA rally
Benghazi, 6 May 2016:

Five people, including a woman and a child, were killed this afternoon when shells were fired into demonstration in Benghazi’s Kish Square late this afternoon. Some 40 people were injured, with conditions varying from critical to mild.

The attack is being blamed on the so-called Islamic State and is seen as linked to the Libyan National Army’s advance towards Sirte to liberate it and crush IS.

The demonstrators – numbers are put at no more than a few dozen – had gathered in Kish Square this afternoon in support of the LNA and to protest against both the Government of National Accord in Tripoli and any foreign interference in Libya. Four mortars were then fired into the demonstration.

According to a spokesperson for the city’s Jalaa Hospital, it received five bodies, including those of a woman and a young boy. These were then sent to the Benghazi Medical Centre.

Meanwhile, security sources say that the building from which the mortars were fired was pinpointed and aircraft sent to attack it. These, however, then came under anti-aircraft fire although none was hit.

The head of Benghazi Security Directorate, Mustafa Al-Ragig, who went to Kish Square after the attack has hailed the dead and wounded as “martyrs and heroes”, saying that the LNA would not be deterred from attacking IS. “We are at the gate of Sirte,” he said. “Nothing will stop us. We will continue,” he declared.

Coalition airstrikes neutralize 48 Daesh terrorists
[AA.TR] The Turkish Armed Forces said 48 members of the ISIS terrorist organization were neutralized in Arclight airstrikes in Syria by the international coalition Saturday morning.

F-16 and A-10 coalition warplanes killed 44 ISIS members and injured numerous others in areas including Harjalah, Hawar Kilis, Delha, and Baragitah at 5.47 a.m. (0247GMT), 6.13 a.m., and 7.41 a.m. local time Saturday morning, the Turkish Armed Forces said on the same day.

In separate Arclight airstrikes in the Karakopru region by F-15 warplanes on Saturday, four ISIS members died at 11.45 local time, raising the total corpse count to 48. Gun emplacements and accommodation areas belonging to ISIS were also destroyed.

According to information from national security sources speaking anonymously due to restrictions on talking with the media, the coalition Arclight airstrikes were in response to increasing ISIS attacks against Syrian opposition forces in the northern part of the war-torn country. The coalition Arclight airstrikes forced ISIS to retreat in the region, officials said.

Saturday’s Arclight airstrikes came the same week as Turkish artillery shelled targets in Syria in retaliation for ISIS cross-border rocket attacks on the southeastern city of Kilis.

Arabia
Suspected bombers die in Soddy security operation
The Saudi Ministry of Interior revealed yesterday that an operation carried out by security forces in the Makkah region resulted in two terrorists being killed and two others blowing themselves up. It has become clear that the four terrorists were part of a cell involved in the bombing of five mosques in eastern and southern Arabia.

Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Mansour Al-Turki explained that the security services swooped on and besieged the terrorist cell’s hideout which was located in Wadi Noman between the holy city of Makkah and the city of Taif in the Makkah province. This led to two terrorists being killed and two others blowing themselves up with suicide belts. After searching the cell’s hideout, special security forces defused 15 explosive devices that were found there, and seized four guns, two pistols, safes and a wide range of ammunition.

Informed sources that Asharq Al-Awsat spoke to suggested that previous operations carried out by security forces revealed the existence of a cluster of cells that ISIS is preparing. This is contrary to the “lone wolves” who have previously operated in the region.

Meanwhile, the Makkah Region Police announced the “martyrdom” of one of its employees who used to work at the Al-Qaree police station in the province of Taif. Corporal Khalaf bin Lafi Al-Harithi was killed whilst he was working at the police station on Thursday night, and police said that he was shot at by an unknown source which resulted in his “martyrdom”. Police did not disclose whether the murder was a criminal act or a terrorist one that targeted security officials after they swooped on the terrorist cell hideout in Wadi Noman.

ISIS executes 1 in Aleppo
[ARA News] ERBIL ــ The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) threw a young man off the top of a building in Manbij city in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo for being gay, accusing him of “sodomy”, local sources reported on Saturday.

Local activists confirmed that the man was arrested by the group’s Hisba police on charges of homosexuality and was barbarically thrown from the top of a building in central Manbij.

Speaking to ARA News in Manbij, media activist Nasser Taljbini said that ISIS extremists have sentenced the man to death by throwing him from the top of a building in the city [Manbij], after accusing him of sodomy.

“The man was thrown brutally by ISIS masked members from the top of the building in the city,” Taljbini reported, pointing out “the corpse of the victim was transferred to an unknown destination.”

“The barbaric execution took place in front of hundreds of people,” Taljbini told ARA News.

Before the execution, ISIS called on the residents in Manbij to gather near a building under construction on the road to Aleppo west of the city. An ISIS Sharia member read the verdict against the “unidentified” victim, according to eyewitnesses, who spoke to ARA News on condition of anonymity.

“Throwing gays this way will cleanse their sins” according to ISIS Sharia Court.

“The young man was taken by the masked militants to the top of the building and threw him blindfolded,” an eyewitness said.

Under the banner “Do not reach Allah’s boundaries”, the ISIS-linked Media Center in Aleppo released a new propaganda footage for the execution of the Syrian man, showing pictures of the execution’s stages.

Last October, the terror group had executed two Iraqi civilians in the northwestern Iraqi city of Mosul for being gay. The ISIS militants brutally threw the two young men off a building’s roof under the pretext they were a “gay couple”.

The ISIS-linked Sharia Court had issued a decision to execute every gay man by throwing him from the top of a building, according to eyewitnesses.

The extremist group has executed dozens of allegedly gay men in its areas of control in Syria and Iraq.

A month after he arrived in Singapore, he began recruiting followers among his countrymen working here, with the help of material linked to terror groups Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and al-Qaeda.

By March, he had set up a clandestine group called Islamic State in Bangladesh (ISB). The group had an organization structure with specific roles for its members: leader, deputy leader, and persons in charge of duties like finance, the Home Affairs Ministry said Wednesday.

Syrian regime forces open fire on Hama jail inmates
[AA.TR] Anadolu Agency has obtained video footage from local activists that purportedly shows Assad regime forces firing on prison inmates at Hama’s main prison facility.

In the video, regime forces are shown shooting and hurling gas bombs at inmates and setting fire to parts of the prison.

Inmates, who were able to record the events on mobile phones, have called on the Red Thingy and the international community to intervene on their behalf.

Chaos erupted at the prison earlier this week when inmates refused to hand over five political detainees that the regime was intending to execute.

In the ensuing riot, regime forces besieged the facility, using teargas against prisoners.

During the melee, inmates managed to capture a brigadier general and two other officers, along with other security personnel.

The two officers were later released following negotiations in which the prison authorities promised to free 200 political detainees.

Hama’s central prison facility, which is operated by Syria’s Assad regime, currently houses an estimated 1,000 political prisoners.

Last year, inmates of the same prison staged a similar riot, citing mistreatment by the prison authorities.

Security forces responded with teargas before eventually deescalating the situation.

Arabia
Long-serving Saudi oil minister replaced
[AA.TR] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s long-serving oil minister was removed from his post Saturday, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

Ali al-Naimi, 81, had been a leading opponent of lowering oil production in the face of falling prices.

He was replaced by Khalid Al-Falih, chairman of state oil company Saudi Aramco, the world's largest petroleum firm.

The removal of al-Naimi - who served as oil minister from 1995 - by royal decree came three weeks after an oil summit in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
where oil producing states agreed to freeze production levels to raise prices.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
the deal collapsed when Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, an increasingly influential figure in Saudi politics, insisted the country would not cut oil output unless regional rival Iran did the same.

Oil prices have dropped sharply since mid-2014 due to a glut in supply, severely harming the budgets of oil-dependent countries such as Saudi Arabia, where oil accounts for around 80 percent of state revenue.

According to the decree, al-Naimi will become an advisor to the royal family with the rank of minister.

Prince Salman recently announced a plan to wean the kingdom off its oil dependency. The proposal includes selling Aramco shares to generate revenue for a $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund.

The jirga that murdered Ambreen should be Pakistan's last
[DAWN] As if the reasons for which women are killed in Pakistain were not enough, helping a friend marry the man she loves has become the latest sin in the list of transgressions that seal a woman’s fate.

Killing a woman for marrying out of her free will, talking to a boy or just for dressing as she pleases will no longer satisfy the bloodlust of self-appointed judges. Even a woman who dares to help her friend escape her village will meet a cruel end.

The ambit of what triggers a community to kill one of its members is getting wider and ghastlier. And such communities become abusive in attempts to establish that their so-called reputations are not to be taken lightly. More often than not, the crimes these communities commit go unpunished because rule of law and the safeguards offered by a caring state are absent.

Arabia
Saudi prince: nukes an option if Iran welches on deal
Washington -- In a reflection of the change and churn in the Middle East, former high-level officials from Saudi Arabia and Israel -- nations that have no formal diplomatic ties -- spoke publicly about their shared sense of Iran as a threat, their differences on Palestinians and the role the United States plays in their chaotic region.
With so many foreign policy failures to choose from, I think this one is Champ's worst...
Prince Turki al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia's former intelligence chief, and retired Israeli Army Maj. Gen. Yaakov Amidror, a former adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke in Washington Thursday night at a discussion arranged by The Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
Former Saudi Intel Chief: Problem is 'clouded' U.S. policy

Their joint appearance doesn't mean the two countries will be normalizing relations anytime soon, Turki warned.

"We are both exes," he said, referring to their status as former officials and not current representatives of their governments.

Despite that -- and the fact that the Saudi kingdom has never formally acknowledged Israel's existence -- the two nations have been quietly cooperating for years, exchanging intelligence on shared threats and in particular on Iran.

The most obvious bond the two countries share is their strong security relationship with and dependence on the United States -- and the fact that both have had rocky patches with the Obama administration over the past few years. Both opposed the deal on Iran's nuclear program, while Saudi officials spoke about their anger that President Barack Obama didn't follow through on a commitment to punish Syria if it crossed the "red line" of chemical weapons use.

Turki said the "strategic relationship with the U.S. will remain, from the Saudi point of view," but suggested it needed rethinking.

"There needs to be a re-evaluation and recalibration of the relationship," he said.

Amidror said that while the "Palestinian issue" was a major difference between Israel and the United States, there is "no substitute for the United States of America in the Middle East."

Those "who think other countries can do what the United States used to do is a big mistake," he said. And he indicated that he understood the Obama administration's attempts to recalibrate its ties to the Middle East.

Both men made it clear that their countries will take steps if they see any erosion of the Iran deal they so forcefully opposed.

Turki said "all options" would be on the table if Iran moves toward a bomb, "including the acquisitions of nuclear weapons, to face whatever eventuality might come from Iran."

Officials from the kingdom, which is party to the nuclear nonproliferation treaty, have raised that possibility in the past. However, they have more strongly stressed the need for the Middle East to be a "weapons of mass destruction free zone," as Turki did at the event.

Amidror said he expected that Iran will move to build a bomb "toward the end of the agreement," which limits research, development and enrichment over 10 to 15 years, if it doesn't violate it first.

"In principle, the Iranians can go nuclear and from the Israeli point of view, this is a threat to existence," Amidror said. "We will not let this happen."

The two men, sitting side by side on a stage, generally impassive while the other spoke, sparred gently over the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Arab cooperation with Israel would improve, Turki said, if it could resolve its decadeslong disagreement with the Palestinians.

"Cooperation between Arab countries and Israel in meeting threats, from wherever they come, whether Iran, is better fortified if there is peace between the Arab nations and Israel," he said.

The Saudi prince returned to the issue repeatedly, criticizing Israel's presence in the West Bank and tying it to a wider Mideast peace.

"There has to be a lifting of the occupation," Turki said. "The Palestinians have to have their own country."

But Amidror said it was the Palestinians who were sabotaging the process. He argued it was a mistake for the Arab world to give the Palestinians the "key" to unlocking the relationship with Israel, since that effectively blocked progress.

Arab states, Amidror told Turki, should "cooperate with Israel instead of dictating" to it. He urged regional leaders to "think outside the box" and suggested the Arab world form an "umbrella of cooperation" on Palestinian issue to help move negotiations along.

Bangladesh
Pakistan expresses concern over Nizami verdict
[Dhaka Tribune] Pakistain has expressed deep concern and anguish after Bangladesh's top court upheld the death penalty for Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami
...During the liberation war of 1971, Nizami formed the Al-Badr Force and acted as its supreme commander. The Al-Badr militia took active part in rape, extortion, looting and killing of Bangladeshis who supported the liberation, including a pre-planned massacre on December 14, 1971, when the Al-Badr militia along with Pakistan Army rounded up hundreds of doctors, professors, writers, and other Bengali intellectuals, and executed them...
for war crimes.

"We have noted with deep concern and anguish the dismissal of the review application on the death sentence, by the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, for Mr Motiur Rahman Niazami the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
," Pakistain's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Nizami is the ameer of Jamaat which openly opposed Bangladesh's independence from Pakistain in 1971. He was involved in mass murders and rapes of Bangalis in Pabna and massacre of intellectuals in Dhaka.

Pakistain, which had previously condemned sentencing of Jamaat leaders for war crimes, dubbed the trials "controversial."

"There is a need for reconciliation in Bangladesh in accordance with the spirit of Tripartite Agreement of April 1974 which calls for a forward looking approach in matters relating to the events of 1971," the statement added.

Nizami was the chief of Jamaat’s then students' wing Islami Chhatra Sangha, members of which formed al-Badr force to collaborate with the Pak Army to commit barbaric atrocities. The tribunal verdict said Nizami had civil superior responsibility in the commission of the offences as chief of both Chhatra Sangha and al-Badr in 1971.

The review petition was the war criminal's last legal battle. Now, he will have the chance to seek presidential pardon. If he does not receive it or opts to not seek clemency, the government will carry out the death sentence.

Rangers vow to follow rules in Karachi operation
KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Friday expressed their resolve to continue the operation against criminals, terrorists and killers in Karachi while complying with all legal formalities and requirements for justice, said a statement issued here.

A meeting to review the progress of the ‘Karachi operation’ and discuss future planning of the paramilitary force actions was held at the Rangers headquarters. The director general of Sindh Rangers, Maj Gen Bilal Akbar, presided over the meeting.

“The meeting was attended by all sector and wing commanders,” said the Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, statement. “The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing operation. It was decided that the Rangers would continue chasing terrorists and targeted killers without any discrimination while meeting all legal formalities and requirement for justice.”

The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, meeting was first of its kind after the growing controversy and criticism over the death of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Aftab Ahmed in their custody.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the incident while the Sindh Rangers chief has also suspended an unspecified number of paramilitary soldiers and formed a probe body.

The situation took a serious turn when initial findings of a post-mortem examination of the deceased confirmed that between 35 and 40 per cent of Aftab Ahmed’s body surface was “congested due to multiple bruises”.

Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the Rangers, who were facing allegations of custodial killing, should not hold an inquiry into the incident on their own and he had contacted the Sindh government for a judicial probe into the custodial death.

8 Iranian troops die in fighting against Kurds
[ARA News] ERBIL ــ The Peshmerga of Iranian Kurdistan [a Kurdish rebel group active in Iran’s northwest] started on Wednesday an armed campaign against key positions for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in several villages in the vicinity of the mainly Kurdish city of Sardasht north-west of the country, informed sources reported.
Why? Do they not have enough existential fights on their hands already?
These are the Iranian Kurds, not the Iraqi or Syrian or Turkish or Azerbaijani Kurds. Completely different thing.
The Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Iran attacked headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the villages of Hamran, Myouni, and Sartaja [administratively linked to the township of Sardasht]. The Iranian forces received additional military reinforcements to the region in a bid to face the unexpected fierce offensive by the Kurdish rebel group.

Speaking to ARA News in Sardasht, Kurdish journalist Saman Sardashti said that the recent fighting between the Kurdish rebels and the Iranian forces left dozens of dead and wounded in the ranks of the latter.

The clashes were focused in the area of Ribad near the city of Sardasht [southwest of Lake Urmia] in the Urmia province, a mainly Kurdish area in north-western Iran.

The Kurdish journalist revealed that at least eight Iranian troops were killed and 60 more were wounded during the Peshmerga-led attack. “Three of the dead militants were Iranian Kurds who were fighting alongside Iranian government forces,” he told ARA News.

“Members of the Peshmerga forces had returned to their bases, without reports of casualties in their ranks despite Iranian use of various kinds of weapons, including tanks, guns, helicopters, armors,” according to Sardashti.

The commander of the military wing of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) in Iran, Hossein Yazdan Banna, had announced earlier that the Kurdish force will soon resume its military operations against the Iranian government forces, pointing out that “Iran is to face a wide armed uprising”.

“After a break of ten years, our armed cells in the Iranian Kurdistan, namely the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), began their military operations against Iranian forces,” Banna said in a statement two weeks ago.

Speaking to ARA News in Tehran, Kurdish journalist Behrouz Kermanshah said: “Resuming the fight against Iran has come late but it was inevitable; the situation in eastern Kurdistan [Iranian Kurdistan] has become unbearable, especially with the daily arbitrary executions against the Kurds.”

“Iranian authorities continue their campaign of arrests and harassment against our people in the eastern part of Kurdistan,” he said.

Kermanshah expressed his fear that “the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) may hinder the PAK-led operations against Iranian authorities due to the PKK’s good relations with Tehran which provides the group [PKK] with remarkable support.”

Kurdish organizations and political parties say that the Iranian authorities are cracking down on the Kurds in Iran and prevent them from practicing their legitimate national rituals and cultural rights.

Prime suspect in Parveen Rehman murder case arrested
[DAWN] KARACHI: The prime suspect in Parveen Rehman's murder, Raheem Swati, has been locked away
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
by Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
police, said a statement released Saturday.

Following the Supreme Court of Pakistain's directives, a special police team was formed under orders from DIG West Feroz Shah. Under the supervision of SSP West, SP Orangi was selected to lead the operation to nab Swati, added the statement.

Swati had eight cell phone SIM cards registered under his name, which he had used at different times, although all were non-operational, claim police.

The police party received an intelligence tip-off regarding Swati's presence in the Manghopir area of the metropolis.

A raid was conducted at the given location, and Swati was arrested. Police claim to have recovered a 9mm pistol and a hand grenade from his possession.

Swati has been booked under Section 353, 324 and 34 of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) and also under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (7-ATA).

Hunt for Parveen's murderers
Parveen Rehman, a media-shy social worker who devoted her life to the development of the impoverished neighbourhoods across the country, was bumped off near her office in Orangi Town on March 13, 2013. The very next day, police potted a Taliban operative named Qari Bilal in an encounter and claimed that he was the murderer, resulting in closure of the case.

The Supreme Court of Pakistain on April 15, 2014 ordered the authorities to conduct a fresh probe into the murder after a judicial inquiry revealed that coppers had manipulated the investigation.

One of the two prime suspects in her murder, Rahim Swati, was described by police in the Supreme Court last year as "a very shrewd character" who "keeps on changing his cell numbers as well as IMEIs [international mobile equipment identity]." His son, Imran, was already arrested in the case.

The other prime suspect in the case, Ahmed Khan alias Pappu Kashmiri was arrested from Mansehra
...a city and an eponymous district in eastern Khyber-Pakthunwa, nestled snug up against Pak Kashmir, with Kohistan and Diamir to the north and Abbottabad to the south...
in March 2015.

The police report last year said Rahim was associated with turbans and the Taliban and during the past insurgency, he along with his family moved to some unknown place, while his house was demolished by the security forces.

3 teens arrested after 15-year-old punches 60-year-old, knocking him unconscious in the road
[PIX11] DEER PARK, N.Y. -- Police have incarcerated
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
three teens in connection to two unprovoked punching attacks in Long Island.

On Wednesday at 12:14, a 15-year-old from North Babylon punched an 18-year-old without provocation, knocking him to the ground at Taco Bell at 1937 Deer Park Avenue, Suffolk County Police said.

Less than an hour later, the same 15-year-old was walking on the sidewalk of Deer Park Avenue. The teen approached a 60-year-old man from behind, punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground, unconscious, inches away from oncoming traffic, police said.

The teen fled in a car with Jean Jiminez, 16, and Adonis Byers, 16, both of Deer Park.

Witnesses stopped to help the victim and called 911. The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center by Deer Park Rescue to treat multiple facial fractures.

Jiminez and Byers, 16, were both arrested on Thursday and charged with reckless endangerment and assault. They were arraigned in Central Islip Friday. The 15-year-old, who is now 16, was arrested Friday and charged with reckless endangerment and assault. He was charged as a juvenile and will be arraigned on May 25.
Would I be a bad person if I suggested that the 15 year old should, just once, get smacked in the face good and hard so that he understands just what it is he's doing?

This Week in Books - May 8th, 2016
First, I have to give a hat tip to xbradtc.com for adding to today's This Week in Books. Not cribbing his work, but his recent comment certainly adds to this edition.

Those who have been following often hear me complain, "Gee, if someone would just make this book a movie...except nobody would believe it." Well, hold on to your red berets. Read the book first, as I would guess with this movie there will have to be some editing and whatnot to make it a watchable movie. If you read last week's review of Pegasus Bridge, I included a partial quote out of something like five pages describing The Ox and Bucks' mission which was shortened into a quick voiceover in The Longest Day, "Hold until relieved." I would guess, like The Great Raid, the more a reader knows about the events, the more the watcher will take from the movie. Knowing the airplane used to distract the guards in The Great Raid should have been a P-61 Black Widow is not emo snob talk on the way out of the theatre, it adds to the experience and lets a person credit the producers for using an actual airplane instead of Ben Affleck in a x-wing.

Continuing, I break my rule - watch the film before reading the book: (run time 33:29)

To me, the most fascinating part was the manufacturing facilities, then the design, then the assembly. It is all good. Consider all the dies, amazing. So, informed about the B-24's innards, let us talk about its guts:

The Wild Blue
Stephen Ambrose
Simon and Schuster, 2002

Author's Note: (Page 17)

I have been a friend and supporter of George McGovern's for nearly three decades. I knew something about his career in the Army Air Forces, which I always felt he could have used to more effect in his 1972 presidential campaign. Politics aside, I had long been an admirer of what he had done in his B-24 bomber. He seemed to me to be a good representative of his generation, a man who had risked all not for his own benefit but to help bring about victory.

Much like following a main character through a movie and getting to know all the characters associated with the main character, Mr. Ambrose's work covering the Army Air Force career of Mr. McGovern is really a rolling interview of Mr. McGovern and those with whom he associated, not a direct biography.

Mr. Ambrose begins with basic air training and the processes which one went through in order to become a pilot. After many evolutions to get to this point, here is a bit from Mr. McGovern's time in Liberal, Kansas: (Page 82-83)

McGovern would have one instructor through the program, and he was crucial. When he arrived in Liberal and got Eleanor settled in a room and himself in the barracks, a colonel told him that he would find his name in the operations room on the blackboard underneath the name of his instructor. Along with his classmates, he ran to the board. Each instructor had four students chalked below his name. McGovern's name was right at the top on his list. He saw that First Lieutenant Ray would be his instructor and wondered if he was related to Norman Ray, the man who had talked him into taking flying lessons back at Dakota Wesleyan

As McGovern was wondering if Ray was related to his college friend, the instructor came into the room, and it was Norman Ray himself. Ray had joined the AAF immediately after completing the course at Wesleyan and been in the service for a year and a half. When he completed his training he was so good a pilot that the AAF, instead of sending him overseas, had made him an instructor on the B-24 bomber. "Didn't surprise me," McGovern said, "because the guy just ate, slept, and breathed flying."

Mr. Ambrose outlines why pilot training was being rushed. Pilots, and crews, were dying at an alarming rate due to training accidents, such as instrument-only navigation, and at the war front, such as the terrible Raid on Ploesti. If you do not get a chance to read this book, this is a great passage: (Page 121-122)

On August 30 (1944), with the Red Army overrunning the country, Romania abruptly changed sides in the war. That development in turn led to a buoyant episode for the Fifteenth Air Force. There were over 1,000 AAF men who had bailed out over Romania and were being held there as POWs. Those in camps near Bucharest were in danger of being evacuated to Germany or having to spend a long time in Russian hands before they got home. One of the internees, Lt. Col. James A. Gunn III, took matters into his own hands. He climbed into the radio compartment of an ME 109 after painting it with the Stars and Stripes. He had persuaded Captain Cantacuzene, a prince of the royal family of Romania, who was the top Romanian ace against Allied aircraft, to be his pilot. Cantacuzene flew Gunn to Italy and managed to land safely. Gunn talked General Twining into sending a rescue mission. Twining had the Fifteenth hurriedly convert fifty-six of its B-17 bombers into transports and had Cantacuzene fly a P-51 (there was no suitable fuel for the ME 109) to the airport outside Bucharest to see if it was clear of Germans. It was and the B-17s started coming in. The POWs, happy beyond belief, crowded into the bombers, twenty of them in each plane, and flew back to Italy in relays. In all 1,274 of them got out over a three-day period. Deloused, fed, and treated as necessary in hospitals, they were soon on their way to the States.

Amazing. Also included in The Wild Blue is a chapter dedicated to The Tuskegee Airmen, and in my opinion a finer tribute than that movie. That is, by the time the reader gets to that chapter, the reader knows the names are not 2-dimensional paper dolls and flying was its own room in hell. Mr. Ambrose includes all that could and did go wrong, and bits are a bit gruesome but again, Mr. Ambrose is not trying to write a sick-o, but includes the details of what really did happen. So here is McGovern flying his Dakota Queen when flak hits the Number 3 engine and the engine catches fire: (Page 193-194)

On the flight deck, McGovern tried yet again to bring the prop under control. He pushed the button and this time it (to feather the prop and reduce the drag - ed.) worked. "Resume your stations," he ordered over the intercom. "We're going to try to bring her home."

He looked at his map, however, and decided they would not get home. The airplane "just couldn't go that far, it wouldn't stay in the air that long." The gas supply was low and the fuel was leaking. McGovern got on the intercom to his navigator, Sam Adams, to ask if Adams knew of any landing strips between where they were and Cerignola. "I'll call you right back," Adams replied. "The best bet is a little fighter strip on the isle of Vis out on the Adriatic," Adams told him, "but it's only got a 2,200-foot runway and we need 5,000 feet to land. Do you think you can bring it in on a 2,200-foot runway?"

Well, McGovern thought, that's better than our being up here with two engines out and one windmilling. "How far is it?" he asked Adams.

On such a heading, Adams replied, "we can make it in less than an hour."

At 263 pages plus reference section, and Ambrose's easy style, it is a good weekender or road trip read. I am too young to properly know of Mr. McGovern's politics, and really do not care as far as this book is concerned. To me, it is an account of what one of thousands of young men went through.

***Looks at Movies***
Last week I mentioned that there are some films out there which are not afraid to get outside of the TV dinners Hollywood turns out. I am going to put this in the 'They should make a movie about this' category, and they did. The idea of this movie going through American theatres is so laughably remote as a re-release of Airplane! or Blazing Saddles; people should be mad.

Day of the Siege, 2012
This a movie covering the events leading to and culminating in The Siege of Vienna. I know, no good marks anywhere. I thought the acting fine, the graphics well enough, and the dialogue fine. I will state that you must have a good idea of what went on. I would suggest Jan Sobieski by Miltiades Varvounis. I will review that book in detail at a later date.

The movie treats all sides fairly. Well, Leopold II is Leopold II, ever scorned for fleeing with his treasures instead of enduring the struggle.

114 minutes, dialogue in English, must have enough background to know that the horsemen with funny wings on them are bad A Mofos.

*Mr. Vavounis' book explains that as well as a visual scare, the wings would make a 'whistle' when at a full charge, further shaking the enemy.

Jamba Juice will move headquarters from Bay Area to Texas
[LATIMES] More than 25 years after the first Jamba Juice shop opened in San Luis Obispo, the owner of the smoothie company announced plans to move its headquarters from Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, to Texas within eight months.
Texas gets more Democrats. I'll bet they're thrilled.
California loses tax revenue. I'll bet they're equally thrilled.
Tax revenues and jobs. But that's why there's welfare, so the workers have nothing to complain about.
Jamba Inc. will close its Emeryville, Calif., office and establish a new corporate home in Frisco, Texas, about 30 miles north of Dallas. In a statement, Chief Executive David Pace said Jamba was looking for places that had "competitive operating costs," access to "skilled restaurant talent" and an "attractive cost of living," along with a central location for further expansion.

"The state of Texas meets all of these criteria and Frisco is a community committed to healthy living that aligns closely with our overall mission," Pace said.

The company's lease in Emeryville is set to expire at the end of the year.

The Grand Turk
PKK bomb-maker captured in Istanbul
An outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militant who was captured on May 3 at a bus station in Istanbul with a fake ID appears to be the militant who made the bomb used in the group’s deadly attack in the Silvan district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır late last year, police have said.

Police said the militant, identified as Y.A., was detained after he arrived at the Harem bus station in Istanbul. The suspect, who was carrying a fake ID with a name “Diyar Doğan” at the time of his capture, was reportedly wanted for 11 different counts and was the militant who made the bomb used in the Dec. 15, 2015, Silvan attack.

In the attack, which took place while an armored vehicle was passing on the Diyarbakır-Silvan motorway, police chief Ahmet Kabukçu, Mustafa Nohut, a special police force member, and official Nuri Yazaner were killed and two other officers were wounded.

The suspect was also allegedly preparing bomb set-ups in the Sur district of Diyarbakır and allegedly came to Istanbul from Diyarbakır to assist the preparations of a potential large-scale attack.

The Saudi-led delegation also denied the reports on the deployment of the US Marines troops in Yemen

Egypt Court Recommends Death for 6 Codefendants but Not Mursi
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] An Egyptian court recommended death sentences on Saturday for six codefendants of Mohammad Mursi but not for the ousted Islamist president in their trial on espionage charges.

The presiding judge in the trial asked the mufti -- the country's official interpreter of Islamic law -- to consider death sentences for the six codefendants, saying the court would convene again on June 18 after the mufti's response.

It will then pronounce its verdict and sentence for the remaining five defendants, including Mursi, on charges of having supplied Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
with classified documents.

Egyptian law requires the mufti to sign off on death sentences. His opinion is not binding but is usually respected by courts.

Qatar was a main backer of Mursi and his Moslem Brüderbund movement while he was in power between 2012 and July 2013, when the military overthrew and detained him.

He has since been sentenced to death, life in prison and 20 years in three separate trials.

Afghanistan
Over 200 Suspected Insurgents Arrested In Parwan
In less than a week 210 suspected insurgents have been arrested in Parwan province while on their way to northern Afghanistan, officials confirmed.

According to Parwan Governor Mohammad Asem, 16 of the arrested men have been found to have links with terrorist groups. In addition, 150 of the group claim to not know why they are traveling to the north.

Asem said that most of the arrested people are from southern and southeastern provinces of Afghanistan, and were on their way to Kunduz, Takhar and Faryab provinces.

"This thing happened last year as well. I myself heard that a large number of people went to northern parts of the country in convoys of vehicles and there were two, three to four people in every vehicle and when the vehicles returned there were only the drivers in them and no one else. It is not clear which part of northern Afghanistan those people went to," he added.

He said however a full investigation is being conducted into the situation.

Bahauddin Jailani, the chairman of Parwan provincial council, meanwhile said that if government failed to take action against the influx of suspected fighters in northern Afghanistan, a repeat of last year's Kunduz crisis could happen in other provinces.

"Definitely, these people wanted to join militants' ranks in northern parts of the country. I have clearly said that if they were not restrained, these suspected people, with the help of the circles who are trying to mount insecurity in Afghanistan, could become a threat for all the people of Afghanistan," he added.

It is said that most of the arrested people are youth.

"They are telling us they want to go to the north, but don't know who they are going to meet. Today (on Sunday) we also arrested ten people who wanted to go to Kunduz and Takhar provinces," said Ziaur Rahman Fayez Sayedkhili, the security chief of Parwan police headquarters.

Although there are a large number of check posts on the highway to northern Afghanistan, these people are believed to be trying to get to the battleground to join the Taliban militants.

During the fall of the Kunduz last year, it is believed the most of the militants had come from other provinces.
