The 50-Year Decline of the American Worker
Henry Ford had two great ideas. One was the creation of the first factory assembly line with a conveyor belt. It cut the time to produce a Model T from about a day and a half to an hour and a half. It created a massive productivity change.

But Ford had another idea that is less discussed. He bet the company on a bizarre notion: If he doubled workers' wages from $2.50 to $5 a day, he could reduce production problems, accidents and absenteeism. At the same time, worker turnover and training would be reduced. Productivity would increase.

The bet paid off. It made Henry Ford rich. It opened the door to careful labor force management and higher wages for many workers. It contributed to the creation of a middle-class America.
I think they call that capitalism.
I remembered this bit of history as I read Neal Gabler's "The Secret Shame of Middle Class Americans" in the May issue of The Atlantic. It's something everyone should read, particularly those in the top tier of corporate America.

The article explains the anger and discontent that Donald Trump has mobilized for himself, as himself, and that Bernie Sanders has mobilized for his part of the Democratic Party. After nearly half a century of slow but constant decline, a majority of Americans are angry. The root of that anger is the terms of trade for work.

Yes, you read that right ‐ nearly half a century of decline. It has taken that long to cross all collar colors. It started in the 1960s with the peak of power for the coal and auto unions. It spread further when the communications workers lost their power in the '70s. And it climaxed when Ronald Reagan broke the air traffic controllers union in 1981.

All those events marked the decline in the terms of trade for American workers. Along the way, pensions have disappeared, benefits have been whittled away, job security has vanished and wage gains have trailed inflation. According to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, labor's share of the business sector peaked in 1960. It began a steep decline in 2000.

At the same time, corporate executive salaries have soared and corporate profitability, by multiple measures, has reached record levels. Much but not all of the gain has been achieved by exporting American jobs.
Much reporting at several different income levels - percentile-wise. Bottom line:
Those higher up the wealth scale do progressively better. At the 99th percentile, 20 percent of wealth was lost between 2007 and 2013 but wealth increased 145 percent between 1983 and 2013.

No solution in sight

There is no sign this trend will reverse. Will the solution come from Washington? Probably not. In any case, no one can hold his breath that long.

We need a 21st-century Henry Ford. Shout if you see him.

#1  And it climaxed when Ronald Reagan broke the air traffic controllers union in 1981.

...I'd take some exception with that - PATCO broke itself, with a leadership bound and determined to hold US and international air travel hostage. Had they struck, Reagan would have been pilloried around the world (not that the world needed any more reasons, but I digress) and the pressure to give in would have been unbearable. PATCO could have changed it at anytime, but they got greedy and stupid, and that's no way to go through life.

Government
Progressives Failing Poor People
Portland is part of the fifth-whitest major metropolitan area in America. Almost 75 percent of the region is white, and it has the third-lowest percentage of blacks, at only 3.1 percent. (America as a whole is 13.2 percent black.) Portland proper is often portrayed as a boomtown, but the city's tiny (and shrinking) black population doesn't seem to think so. The city has lost more than 11.5 percent of its black residents in just four years. Metro Portland's black population share grew by 0.3 percentage points from 2000, but that trailed the nation's 0.5 percentage-point growth. This implies that some of Portland's blacks are being displaced from the transit- and amenity-rich city to the suburbs that many progressives insist are inferior.

These figures might not be important if they merely reflected a choice by blacks to move to more auspicious locations, but the evidence suggests that specific public policies have excluded and even driven out blacks. Primary among them are restrictive planning regulations that make it hard to expand the supply of housing. In a market with rising demand and static supply, prices go up.

As a rule, a household should spend no more than three times its annual income on a home. But in West Coast markets, housing-price levels far exceed that benchmark. According to the Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey, the median multiple, which is the median home price divided by the median household income, should average about 3.0. But the median multiple is 5.1 in Portland, 5.1 in Denver, 5.2 in Seattle, 8.1 in Los Angeles and San Diego, 9.4 in San Francisco, and 9.7 in San Jose. As the Demos/IASP report found, differences in home ownership rates between whites and blacks account for a large share of the racial wealth gap. Policies that put the price of home ownership out of reach for many black families exacerbate the problem.
Progressives - Improving the lives of the lesser peoples everywhere, but not in my backyard.
Some on the left recognize how development restrictions hurt lower- and middle-income people. Liberal commentator Matt Yglesias has called housing affordability "Blue America's greatest failing." Yglesias and others criticize zoning policies that mandate single-family homes, or approval processes, like that in San Francisco, that prohibit development.
Busting middle-class neighborhoods with government regulations; protecting neighborhoods with government regulations.
These commentators don't mention the role of environmental policy in creating high housing prices. Portland, for example, has drawn a so-called urban-growth boundary that severely restricts land development and drives up prices inside the approved perimeter. The development-stifling effects of the California Environmental Quality Act are notorious. California also imposes some of the nation's toughest energy regulations, putting a huge financial burden on lower-income (and disproportionately black) households. Nearly 1 million households in the Golden State spend 10 percent or more of their income on energy bills, according to a Manhattan Institute report.

In some cases, western cities; support for gentrification has come at the expense of long-standing black communities. In Portland, residents of the historically black Albina neighborhood complained about bike lanes (a progressive fetish) being built in their neighborhood. In Oakland, recent upscale arrivals got the government to cite Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, a fixture in the city for 65 years, for creating a public nuisance - because its gospel-choir practice was disturbing the newcomers.

When it comes to how state and local policies affect black residents, the track record of the most liberal cities in the United States is truly dismal. These results should be troubling to progressives touting blue-state planning, economic and energy policies as models for the nation. After all, if wealthy cities like San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle - where progressives have near-total political control - can't produce positive outcomes for working-class and middle-class blacks, why should we expect their approach to succeed anywhere else?
Try Venezuela.

#1  8.1 in San Diego seems about right
Posted by: Frank G || 05/22/2016 14:55 Comments || Top||

#2  Oh, boo hoo. Portland doesn't want to end up looking like Los Angeles? Shame on them. And San Francisco has no more open space left? How did that happen? So you take Los Angeles, or San Diego, where they've been screaming for more affordable housing and building as fast as they can for decades and the cost of housing just keeps sky rocketing. That's what happens when you have a great demand on top of a government policy like the Community Reinvestment Act. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac promoted all those exotic and sub prime mortgages to "help people". Only problem is when you make it easier for unqualified borrowers to get a home loan you drive the cost of homes up. IIRC, CRA was a liberal, progressive idea. Bottom line is: San Diego is expensive and it's already way too crowded. Try Detroit.

#3  Even Detroit is losing black folks -

The most distressed cities in this region are the usual suspects: Detroit, Cleveland, Flint and Youngstown. All have declining black populations, both in their urban cores and region-wide. They are losing black residents to migration.

Leaving a void filled with ... southwest Asians?

Seriously, I don't know. Are they going to Cali. or Texas or NY or back to the south?

CEO Abdullah confirms Mullah Mansoor killed in drone strike in Quetta
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
has confirmed the supreme leader of the Taliban group Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was killed in a drone strike in Quetta, the placid provincial capital of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province of Pakistain.

CEO Abdullah confirmed the death of Mullah Mansoor in an online statement, saying "Taliban leader Akhtar Mansoor was killed in a drone strike in Quetta, Pakistain at 4:30 pm yesterday."

Abdulllah further added that Mansoor’s car was attacked in Dahl Bandin area of Quetta.

The confirmation by CEO Abdullah followed shortly after the Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS), confirmed the Taliban supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was killed in an Arclight airstrike in Pakistain.

The US Department of Defense first confirmed on Saturday that the Taliban supreme leader was targeted in a drone strike.

"Today, the Department of Defense conducted an Arclight airstrike that targeted Taliban leader Mullah Mansur in a remote area of the Afghanistan-Pakistain border region," a statement by Department of Defense said.

The Afghan government also confirmed that the vehicle of Mullah Mansoor was targeted in an Arclight airstrike in the southwest of the town of Ahmad Wal.

However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
the Afghan government said an investigation is underway to confirm that death of Mansoor which would be announced as soon as they receive final information confirming his death.

Leaderships of terrorist groups based in Pakistan, MoD says
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan (MoD) said the leaderships of the terrorist groups are based in Pakistain, apparently gesturing towards the Taliban’s Quetta Council and the Haqqani terrorist network using the Pak soil to conduct operations in Afghanistan.

A front man for the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Dawlat Waziri, told news hounds that Taliban’s supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was killed in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province of Pakistain.

Waziri invited Taliban group to come to Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
and start activities as a political group instead of electing a new leader.

He warned that the new leader of the Taliban group would face the same fate as Mullah Mansoor and would be killed.

The remarks by Waziri come as the Afghan intelligence and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
confirmed the death of Mullah Akhtar Mansoor in an Arclight airstrike in Balochistan province.

The Taliban group however has rejected the reports and said Mullah Mansoor is health and alive.

This comes as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for allowing the anti-government armed bully boy groups of Afghanistan to use its soil and plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

Naked man jumps into a zoo's LION enclosure in desperate 'suicide bid' and survives
[The Sun] A NAKED man who jumped into the big cat enclosure at a Chilean zoo in a desperate 'suicide bid' survived - but only after the lions attacking him were shot dead.

Santiago authorities confirmed the two beasts were killed as they mauled the 20-year-old who had broken into their compound early on Saturday.

The man, who has not been named, was accidently hit with a tranquiliser as zookeepers frantically tried to put the lions to sleep. He taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was said to be in a "grave" condition.

Kerry says Pakistan, Afghan leaders were notified of drone strike
[GEO.TV] US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
said on Sunday Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour posed a "continuing imminent threat" to US personnel in Afghanistan and to Afghans, and was a threat to peace.

US officials in Washington said on Saturday US missile-firing drones had attacked Mansour and probably killed him in a strike in southwest Pakistain, near the Afghan border, authorised by US President Barack Obama
They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them...
"Yesterday, the United States conducted a precision air strike that targeted Taliban leader Mullah Mansour in a remote area of the Afghanistan-Pakistain border. Mansour posed a continuing, imminent threat" to US personnel and Afghans, Kerry told a news conference in the Myanmar capital.

"This action sends a clear message to the world that we will continue to stand with our Afghan partners as they work to build a more stable, united, secure and prosperous Afghanistan."

Kerry said the leaders of both Pakistain and Afghanistan were notified of the air strike but he declined to elaborate on the timing of the notifications, which he said included a telephone call from him to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
"Peace is what we want. Mansour was a threat to that effort and to bringing an end to the violence and suffering people of Afghanistan have endured for so many years now.

He was also directly opposed to the peace negotiation and to the reconciliation process," Kerry said.

Seeking 'clarification' of US strike on Afghan Taliban leader: foreign office
[GEO.TV] The Pak Foreign Office said it was "seeking clarification" about a US drone strike against Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, the foreign ministry front man said on Sunday, after US officials said Mansour was likely killed in an air strike.

"I have seen the reports. We are seeking clarification," Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said in a statement.

He added that Pakistain wanted the Afghan Taliban to return to the negotiating table to end the long war in Afghanistan.

"Military action is not a solution," he added.

Bodies recovered from burnt down car in Noshki
[GEO.TV] QUETTA: Two bodies were recovered on Sunday from a burnt down car in Noshki area of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province close to Pakistain's borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
Note that Noshki is a town and district in Balochistan, Pakistain. It lies southwest of Quetta, and is situated in a plain at the base of the Quetta plateau. Musta been a hell of an explosion to blow them all the way across the border like that.
The bodies were recovered hours after reports of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour being targeted in a US drone strike in the Pak-Afghan border region.

It was unclear if either of the bodies was that of the Taliban leader.

Sources said one of the two bodies was identified as that of a local driver named Mohammad Azam, whose cousin confirmed that he was bringing a passenger from taftan to Quetta.

The second body was burnt beyond recognition, but the deputy commissioner in Chaghai said a passport had been found from near the vehicle.

The passport belongs to a man named Wali Mohammad, a resident of Qila Abdullah in Balochistan, he said.

It was yet to be determined if the passport belonged to the second man riding in the car, which was completely destroyed by the flames.

Initial post-mortem of the bodies revealed that both men recieved injuries from an apparent kaboom. Hospital sources said the men appeared to have died after kaboom blew up, and that they had also suffered wounds from metal shrapnel hitting them.

Pak authorities are currently investigating the incident to ascertain the identities of both the bodies.

Odds for a UK 'In' vote in EU poll cut to shortest so far
Bookmaker William Hill has cut its odds of Britons voting to remain in the European Union in a June 23 referendum to 1/6, the shortest odds to date and indicating a probability of 85 percent.

"During the week just gone, the odds for 'remain' have halved from 1/3 to 1/6 as many political punters seem to have decided they know what the result will be," William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said on Saturday.

That's one of the things that made America "exceptional".

And what the progressives are working so hard to undo.

Europe
ISIS Had a Social Media Campaign, So We Tracked Them Down
[billingcat] On Saturday, numerous supporters of ISIS posted pictures on social media from major European cities, displaying messages of support for the group. This social media campaign was in support of an imminent speech from ISIS spokesperson Abu Mohammed al-Adnani. In these photographs, backgrounds of various European cities can be seen, with the intention of, as described by Sheera Frankel of BuzzFeed News World, “instill[ing] fear by showing that the group had supporters in major European cities.” As noted by J.M. Berger, this was the “first time in months that the ISIS social media team has come out in force to push a release,” and that the ISIS “fanboys” felt accomplished in getting their hashtag to tweet.

However, these photographs revealed the exact locations of the ISIS supporters in their photographs, in some cases even exposing their home addresses. Numerous Twitter users crowdsourced the geolocation of these photographs throughout the day on Saturday, eventually pinpointing the locations of several photographs shared by ISIS supporters.

One ISIS supporter tweeted a photograph of him/herself from Münster, Germany.

Media in agony as Trump makes it relive Clinton sex scandals
[Wash Examiner] he press is balking at the idea of revisiting Bill Clinton's sex scandals, and many in media are warning presumed GOP nominee Donald Trump and his supporters against even mentioning the issue.

Trump escalated things in a Fox News interview this week when he used the word "rape" in reference to a charge brought against the former president by a woman named Juanita Broaddrick.

Broaddrick maintains she was sexually assaulted by Clinton in 1978.

"In one case, it's about exposure," cable news host Sean Hannity said of the many charges brought against Clinton. "In another case, it's about groping and fondling and touching against a woman's will."

EgyptAir pilot told colleagues he was 'ready to die'; Brother calls him a martyr.'
[Right Scoop] Investigators are trying to unravel why the plane went down into the Mediterranean Sea. Is it terrorism? Is it a Muslim suicide pilot?

We don’t know for sure yet, but the Muslim pilot of EgyptAir flight 804, Mohamed Said Shakeer, is looking very suspicious!

The pilot’s own brother told El Watan News that Shakeer called him before the flight and asked him to pray for him. Not only that, but his brother is calling him a martyr for Islam.

Caps removed, still appears viable.

Steve White's posting from today appears to rule out suicide.
Moved to Opinion. This is speculation with translation from the Egyptian press and social media by Walid Shoebat, who knows whereof he speaks. Whether or not this was a suicide by airplane, the pilot's connections should be of interest.

Gen. Joseph Votel, top U.S. commander for the ME, makes secret visit to Syria
NORTHERN SYRIA (AP) -- The top U.S. commander for the Middle East secretly visited Syria on Saturday for a first-hand look at efforts to build cohesive alliances of Arab, Kurd and other local fighters to defeat the Islamic State.

Army Gen. Joseph Votel, who is head of U.S. Central Command, became the highest-ranking U.S. military officer known to have entered Syria since the U.S. began its campaign to counter the Islamic State in 2014.

Votel flew into northern Syria and spent nearly 11 hours in the country. He met with U.S. military advisers working with Syrian Arab fighters, and conferred with leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces, an umbrella group of Kurdish and Arab fighters supported by the U.S.

A small group of reporters accompanied Votel on a flight from Iraq under ground rules that, for security reasons, prohibited disclosing his visit until after he had left Syria.

Votel landed at a dusty outpost, surrounded by wheat fields, that serves as a U.S. camp for American military advisers who are training Syrian Arab troops in basic soldiering skills. Splitting off from the reporters who flew in with him, Votel then visited several other undisclosed locations in Syria before returning to the camp.

Aides said Votel’s flight into Syria was the first made in daylight by U.S. forces, who have about 200 advisers on the ground but no combat units. Military ground rules for the trip prohibited reporting the kind of aircraft Votel used, the exact location of where he landed and the names and images of the U.S. military advisers, who said they have been operating from the camp since January.

According to the eyewitnesses in the area, the suicide bomber rammed a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) into the convoy of the US forces.

Hundreds of youths sang in front of President Paul Biya. If it weren’t for the military, they sang, their country would have been seized by Boko Haram.

Cameroon has deployed more than 8,000 soldiers to the north to fight the Nigerian terrorist group.

In hospitals around Yaounde, people donated blood all week for maimed soldiers. Among them was university student Julienne Njock, 19. She said she could not go to the front but could make this modest contribution. The teenager said she was moved when she saw maimed soldiers, some who had lost legs to amputation.

Cameroon said it needs at least 400,000 pints of blood and that shortages have forced medical staff to stop work to give blood for urgent cases.

Sartaj Aziz says Pakistan has no control over Afghan Taliban
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Pakistain’s foreign affairs adviser Sartaj PrunefaceAziz
...Adviser to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, who believes in good jihadis and bad jihadis as a matter of national policy...
has said the country has no control over the Taliban group, a statement which he makes nearly three months after admitting Pakistain’s influence over the group.

"Vested interests have often tried to create a perception that Pakistain actually controls the Taliban," Aziz said.

He said such an impression breeds unrealistic expectations from Pakistain.

This comes as Aziz admitted earlier in March that Islamabad has influence on the Afghan Taliban leaders based Pakistain and that the country could use certain leverages to bring the Taliban leaders to negotiations table with the Afghan government.

Speaking at an event organized by the Council on Foreign Relations, Aziz said the leadership of the group is based in Pakistain along with their families who are using certain facilities, including health centers in the country.

Aziz further added that Islamabad can put pressure on the Taliban leadership to sit-in for peace talks but it can’t negotiate on behalf of the Afghan government.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, a little lightbulb figuratively appeared over Bossy's head...
Aziz in his speech at the fifth round of Pakistain-Afghanistan dialogue organized by Regional Peace Institute, said the Afghan Taliban have not yet responded positively to the efforts made by the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) to revive talks between them and the Afghan government.

He hoped that the QCG countries in line with their shared responsibility would continue efforts for such talks to bring peace and stability.

Nigeria: The defeat of deadly Boko Haram?
[Al Jazeera] Nigeria's information minister said on Tuesday that Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
was "largely defeated" - despite two days of grisly attacks blamed on the gang that killed dozens in the volatile northeast.

Lai Mohammed said the Nigerian government had greatly reduced Boko Haram's capacity to strike, adding it was on its last legs as a rebel force since launching an insurgency six years ago that has killed an estimated 20,000 people.

"Boko Haram has been largely defeated. They know they are on their way out," Mohammed told journalists in Lagos.

"They lack the capacity to launch horrendous attacks they used to do in the past. We have succeeded in dislodging them. Our problem now is how to resettle the internally displaced people."

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari set a self-imposed deadline to stamp out the group on December 31, and he said recently Boko Haram had been "technically" defeated.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
it is believed Boko Haram was responsible for a series of attacks last weekend on towns in the north of Africa's most populous nation, calling into question the government's claims.

, after one of the students was found near the group's stronghold.

The military was pressing ahead with operations in the Sambisa Forest area of the northeastern state of Borno, where the Islamists have camps, said governor Kashim Shettima.

"They (soldiers) are already moving into the forest aggressively," Shettima told news hounds at President Muhammadu Buhari's official residence in Abuja where he brought rescued student Amina Ali.

"They are expending a lot of resources and time in the Sambisa Forest. I am an eternal optimist. I believe that in the coming days and weeks more recoveries will be made."

The girls were kidnapped from the remote Borno town of Chibok on April 14, 2014, causing global outrage and bringing worldwide attention to the brutal conflict.

Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai said the discovery of Amina near the forest on Tuesday "raises our hope that others are still alive".

"By God's grace, the operation going on in Sambisa, in a matter of weeks we will have all the girls back safe and alive," he added.

US sanctions alleged IS bag man in Libya
Tunis, 20 May 2016:

Washington has imposed sanctions on a man it says is a key IS operative in Libya as part of what the US Treasury describes as its aggressive action against those who finance, support and arm the terrorists.

The 37 year-old Salmi Salama Salim Sulayman ‘Ammar is the only one of six terrorists just sanctioned by the US who operates out of Libya. Also known as “Abu Asra” and “Yusri” Ammar, who may be an Egyptian national, is said by the Americans to have pledged allegiance to ISIL in Syria in late 2014, when he based himself in Libya. He then become involved in providing financial and material support to its operations in the Sinai peninsular.

The US Treasury describes him as one of ISIL’s “critical facilitators” in North Africa, claiming that he helped move hundreds of thousands of dollars, weapons and ammunition to the Sinai. However, the Americans have given no details of what they believe to be Ammar’s role with IS in Libya.

The sanctions mean that any property interests that Ammar has within US jurisdiction are frozen and no US citizen is able to have any financial dealings with him.

Yemen FM: We will give talks 'last chance'
There doesn't seem any point.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Mikhlafi who is leading the government negotiating team announced Saturday that he received regional and international guarantees to comply with the six points mentioned by the government delegation in Kuwait consultations.

He added in a tweet that the delegation received the guarantees in order to give Kuwait consultations a ’last chance.’

The Yemeni government late on Tuesday suspended its participation in UN-sponsored peace talks in Kuwait and said it would only return if its opponents, the Houthis, committed to withdraw from cities they have seized since 2014 and hand over weapons.

The talks center on government demands for the Houthis to hand over their weapons and quit cities captured since 2014 and the formation of a new government that would include the Houthis.

The pullout comes after UN special envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said he was optimistic about achieving a peaceful settlement in the war-torn country.

The two delegations were on the verge of finalizing a deal to release half of the detainees and prisoners before the start of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan in early June.

Yasir Punjabi was wanted in several terrorist attacks on police installations like the CIA headquarters, police rest house and Special Branch buildings in Gujranwala. He was involved in attacking Ahmadis’ worship places in Lahore in 2010 in which more than 90 people were killed.

Yasir Punjabi and his associates were also involved in assassination of coppers in Uch Sharif, Muzaffargarh, D.G. Khan and Layyah, and in the liquidation of Brig Fazal Qadri. They were also blamed for attacking a religious gathering in Sargodha in September 2014.

The sources further contended that the suspects were interrogated by the CTD, MI and ISI to their satisfaction.

Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Sukhera claimed on Friday that all the heads of terrorist organizations in south Punjab had been eliminated.

He termed the killing of Yasir Punjabi and his associates an important development in the operation against terrorism.

Syria army commander 'poses next to dead bodies'
[Al Jazeera] Syrian social media users have circulated photos online of a well-known government army commander posing next to dead bodies in the eastern Syria's Deir Az Zor province.

Tasked with leading the Syrian government's military operations in Deir Az Zor, Issam Zahreddine was reportedly photographed with two hanged bodies behind, both of which ostensibly bear the marks of torture.

The identity of the two killed people remains unknown, sources told Al Jazeera. They both appeared to have been cut into several pieces before being hanged.

Zahreddin's son and other soldiers reportedly appear in similar pictures that have circulated on social media in recent days.

SITE: ISIS claims killing of Kushtia homeopath
[Dhaka Tribune] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group has grabbed credit for killing of a homeopathic doctor who was hacked to death in Kushtia on Friday, The Straitstimes reported on Saturday quoting AFP.

"Fighters from the Islamic State assassinated a doctor who called to Christianity in Kushtia, western Bangladesh," the ISIS-affiliated Amaq news agency said in a brief Arabic message, according to Site Intelligence Group.

Several unidentified miscreants hacked local homeopath Sanwar Hossain, 60, to death in Battal Shisir Math area in Kushtia town around 10am on Friday.

Saifuzzaman, assistant professor of Bangla department at Kushtia Islami University, was injured in the incident. He was flown by helicopter to Dhaka for emergency treatment.

The pair were both fans of a mystical musical tradition known as Baul, which is popular in Kushtia, with the doctor's brother-in-law saying Rahman used to arrange concerts at his home.

Friday's attack comes amid a wave of murders of liberals, secular activists and religious minorities by suspected Islamist bandidos holy warriors in Bangladesh.

A Buddhist monk was hacked to death last Saturday while an atheist student, two gay rights activists, a liberal professor, a Hindu tailor and a Sufi Muslim leader have also been murdered since last month.

ISIS and a Bangladeshi branch of Al-Qaeda have said that they carried out several of the killings.

But the secular government in Dhaka denies that the two bad boy groups are behind the attacks, saying they have no known presence in the country, and blames the killings on home-grown Death Eaters.

Iraq
Four killed, 90 injured in Baghdad Green Zone riots
[Al Ahram] At least four people were killed and 90 injured among anti-corruption protesters who stormed Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone on Friday, hospital sources said on Saturday.

Iraqi security forces used live and rubber bullets as well as tear gas to dislodge the protesters from the district that houses government buildings, parliament and embassies.

The toll, compiled from four hospitals where casualties were taken as well as Baghdad's central morgue, accounts for bullet wounds only, not cases of suffocation caused by tear gas.

The disturbance was the second breach of the Green Zone in less than a month.

Protesters included supporters of powerful Shi'ite Muslm holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
and people from other groups upset with the government's failure to approve anti-corruption reforms and improve security against bombings by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. murderous Moslems.

The government briefly imposed a curfew on Baghdad on Friday and authorities later said that order had returned after what they called rioting at the Green Zone.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, in a late-night speech, condemned the Green Zone breach and warned against chaos and strife: "The law must take its course with every transgressor."

Sadr expressed support for what he called a "peaceful spontaneous revolt" and condemned the government for "killing its children in cold blood".

China-Japan-Koreas
Obama is off to Asia to ‘rebalance’ ties
Is that anything like bringing along a big, red Reset button?
It's the Pacific apology tour. He'll apologize for Hiroshima, the Vietnam war, the Boxer Rebellion and Commodore Perry...
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] President Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
left Washington on Saturday for a weeklong visit to Vietnam and Japan, his 10th trip to Asia since taking office.

Air Force One, the US presidential jet, lifted off shortly after 1 p.m. local time for the long flight to Hanoi. After his jet makes two refueling stops along the way, Obama is due to touch down in the Vietnamese capital early Monday local time, or early Sunday afternoon in the US capital.

A White House statement said the president's visit to Vietnam and Japan is intended to demonstrate the US commitment to "rebalancing" relations with the nations of Asia and the Pacific region.

The 16,000-mile trip to Asia, is part of Obama’s effort to pay more attention to the region and boost economic and security cooperation.

He'll spend three days in Vietnam, with stops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, for meetings with leaders, a speech on US-Vietnam relations, visits to cultural treasures and sessions with civic leaders and entrepreneurs. From Vietnam, he heads to Japan for a summit of the Group of Seven industrialized nations and a historic visit to Hiroshima.

A sticking point during Obama's stay in Vietnam will be human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
. Five Republican senators sent the president a letter Friday labeling Vietnam "one of the most repressive regimes in the world" and urging Obama to press Vietnamese leaders to do more to respect freedom of religion and expression and other human rights. The letter was signed by Sens.

Before Obama left, Vietnam granted early release from prison to a Catholic priest who is one of its most prominent dissidents. The move is widely viewed as a goodwill gesture before the president arrives in Hanoi late Sunday night for an official visit.

Afghanistan
Taliban leader Mansour 'likely killed'
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United States has carried out a drone strike against Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mansour in southeast Afghanistan, the Pentagon says.
Do we have a severed head?
Rooters quoted a US official as saying that Mansour was "likely killed" along with another combatant. He added that multiple U.S. drones targeted the men as they rode in a vehicle.

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a statement "Today, the Department of Defense conducted an Arclight airstrike that targeted Taliban leader Mullah Mansour in a remote area of the Afghanistan-Pakistain border region."

Cook said that Mansour has been "actively involved with planning attacks against facilities in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
and across Afghanistan, presenting a threat to Afghan civilians and security forces, our personnel, and Coalition partners."

Cook added that "Mansour has been an obstacle to peace and reconciliation between the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban, prohibiting Taliban leaders from participating in peace talks with the Afghan government that could lead to an end to the conflict."

According to local reports, the Arclight airstrike was carried out in southwest of the town of Ahmad Wal in Zabul province and media outlets quoted an official as confirming that President Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
has authorized the strike.

Additional next-day text:
The Taliban have so far not commented on the American strike or confirmed Mansour's death. He had been appointed leader last July. But Afghanistan's main spy agency confirmed his death.

"Mansour was being closely monitored for a while... until he was targeted along with other fighters aboard a vehicle... in Balochistan," the National Directorate of Security said in a statement.

The drone attack came just days after US, Chinese, Pakistani and Afghan officials held a fresh round of talks in Islamabad aimed at restarting the stalled peace process between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

International-UN-NGOs
G7 countries pledge to clamp down on terrorist financing
[DAWN] The G7 on Saturday pledged to clamp down on financial support for terrorist networks, with a plan to step up intelligence-sharing, freeze assets and tighten reporting rules on international transfers.

The club of wealthy nations has been cooperating to block the financial pipelines that allow Lions of Islam to travel, plan and carry out attacks, but said that more must be done.

"Countering violent extremism and bringing perpetrators to justice remain top priorities for the whole international community," they said after two days of talks in northern Japan.

"The G7 commits to working together to strengthen the global fight against terrorist financing," said an action plan to be adopted by the group's leaders who meet in Japan next week.

French Finance Minister Michel Sapin, whose country suffered devastating attacks in January and November of 2015, said the Group of Seven was now in the "operational phase" of its efforts.

"We will introduce effective tools at our disposal in the war against terrorism financing," he told AFP. "It is absolutely essential. "Sapin said that good exchanges between intelligence agencies were vital, "especially to fight against large movements of money by, for example, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. in Syria or Iraq".

Another key tool is to counter the cover provided by "prepaid but anonymous phone cards, movements of cash that allow anonymous access to finances," he said.

"We must trace these. "The G7 action plan identified "targeted financial sanctions" as critical to hindering terrorist support networks.

It also emphasised the need to freeze terrorist assets, including those of individual Lion of Islams.

Among specific measures, the bloc committed to reducing the threshold for declaring cross-border cash transactions from $15,000, 15,000 euros and two million yen to $10,000, 10,000 euros and one million yen.

It also said it would provide "continued strong leadership" to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which sets international standards to combat money laundering and terrorism finance.

Europe
Smuggling Rife as Refugees Cross Closed Balkan Route
[AnNahar] Mohamad Jomaa breathlessly recounts his covert journey from Greece to Macedonia: a 10-day trek through the mountains, getting robbed by local "mafia" and handing over costly bribes to police.

While the so-called "Balkan route" is now officially closed to migrants, hundreds are still finding ways to cross it every day -- whether furtively by foot or in the hands of smuggling gangs.

"Maybe today or tomorrow I'm going to Serbia, walking again. I don't care (about) police or mafia or anything, I want to go to Germany," says Jomaa, 20, a law student from Syria.

He and his four travelling companions, other Syrian and Iraqi young men, are spending a couple of days recovering at the Tabanovce refugee centre in northern Macedonia before readying for their next leg north to Belgrade.

They tell of intense haggling and deals struck at the camp between refugees desperate to leave and the smugglers who visit at nightfall.

"It's a bazaar here," jokes floppy-haired Jomaa.

After countries along the Balkan route shut their borders to migrants back in March, around 1,500 people were stuck at Tabanovce. Now just a few hundred remain as those who are able have left.

Before the border lockdown, when thousands were passing through Macedonia each day, "we didn't know who is poor and who is rich," says Driton Maliqi from Legis, a Macedonian NGO working with refugees.

But the ones still here are clearly poor, "because people who have money, they manage to go," he says, adding that some get cash wired to a nearby town from their families.

- 'Smuggler channels' -
The camp's numbers are boosted by those using Tabanovce as a quick stop-off point on their way to Serbia and beyond.

They arrive from Greece, where thousands have been detained in overcrowded camps for weeks as they wait for asylum under a shaky EU-Turkey deal -- spurring some to just get up and leave.

"Even though the Balkan road is closed, we can say that every day new refugees are arriving, but everyone knows they are coming in smuggler channels," says Maliqi.

Gangs smuggling migrants to Europe raked in up to $6 billion in 2015 alone, according to a joint report released on Tuesday by Interpol and the EU's law enforcement agency Europol.

More than 90 percent of migrants use smugglers at some point on their journey -- paying an average of 3,000 to 6,000 euros -- and that percentage is expected to rise this year, the report says.

It warns of a likely increase in migrants being targeted for labour or sexual exploitation as a way to repay their debts.

'Moving to Canada': Trump fuels US relocation dreams
[Al Ahram] Donald Trump's inflammatory presidential campaign and the prospect of the brash-talking tycoon actually becoming commander-in-chief has left progressive Americans obsessing about one thing: moving to Canada.
Talking about it, anyway. Possibly a percentage in the single digits will actually bestir themselves, should Mr. Trump actually win. The rest will experience four years of Trump Derangement Syndrome, and share it with the rest of us.
Stars from Cher to Lena Dunham have declared their intention to head north if the former reality star, famous for insulting Muslims and Mexicans, and under the microscope for alleged sexism, reaches top office.

According to one recent Morning Consult/Vox poll, 28 percent of Americans would "likely" consider moving to another country if Trump wins in November. Google said the search "how can I move to Canada?" surged 350 percent on March 1 when Trump won seven Republican state elections.

Money makers on both sides of the border have turned the hype into a savvy marketing tool. "Leaving he country if TRUMP is elected PRESIDENT? Give me a call and LET'S GET YOUR HOME SOLD!!" advertised one US realtor.

A millennial entrepreneur in Texas set up dating site Maple Match promising to help Americans "find the ideal Canadian partner to save them from the unfathomable horror of a Trump presidency."

The site is the brainchild of 25-year-old Joe Goldman, who always wanted to set up a dating site but used the Trump bandwagon to drive publicity.

While actual introductions and dates are a way off, Goldman says that more than 30,000 people hungry for love have already signed up.

"The Donald Trump campaign for president has provided us with an opportunity to make something positive," he told AFP. "But ultimately Maple Match itself is not political. It's about bringing Americans and Canadians together."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Drug Lord "El Chapo" Guzman To Be Extradited Per US/Mexico Agreement

Mexico approved the extradition of drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the United States on Friday after receiving guarantees he would not face the death penalty, and the kinkgpin's lawyers vowed to block the move.

Juan Pablo Badillo, one of Guzman's lawyers, told Reuters he would file "many" legal challenges in the coming days, which could delay the drug lord's eventual extradition forever weeks.

Guzman, head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, was the world's most wanted drug kingpin until his capture in January, six months after he broke out of a high-security penitentiary in central Mexico through a mile-long tunnel.

Mexico's foreign ministry said he would face charges including drug trafficking, money laundering and murder in U.S. federal courts in California and Texas.

Asked whether he would file legal challenges on behalf of Guzman, Badillo said: "Of course. Five, 10, whatever is necessary."

Guzman's escape last year was a major embarrassment to President Enrique Pena Nieto, who entered office amid a bloody war between the government and drug cartels launched by his predecessor. Pena Nieto dialed back cooperation with the United States after taking office in 2013, but soon after Guzman's recapture in January he said he had taken steps to ensure the kingpin would be extradited as soon as possible.

Earlier this month, Guzman was moved from a jail in central Mexico to a prison in Ciudad Juarez on the U.S. border, seen as a step closer to extradition.

Mexican authorities say they tracked Guzman down after he sought to make a movie about his life and met with Mexican actress Kate del Castillo and Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn, who published an interview with the drug boss in Rolling Stone.

Curfew imposed in Green Zone

Baghdad- Iraqi authorities recently imposed a curfew in the capital city of Iraq, Baghdad, which will last until further notice. The check in time was announced on Friday after Sadrist movement protestors broke into Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi’s office in the Green zone, the most common given name for the International Zone of Baghdad.

The break and enter is considered the second within three weeks. The Sadrist Movement is a chiefly Shi’ite Iraqi national movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr. The movement has been incessantly demonstrating against the Iraqi authorities in the last month.

After the protestors arriving to the Green Zone, large numbers of them took camp inside the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Parliament building, despite security forces shooting out rounds of fire do disband the crowd.

“Hundreds of demonstrators stormed into Abadi’s office at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the building of the parliament,” sources said.

Media reported three demonstrators dead and 22 others injured. Reinforcement was soon sent to the area to inhibit the flow of protestors.

Thousands of protestors had gathered at the Liberation Square then headed for the Green Zone, waving over the national flag, and screaming out slogans urging the national army not to side with corruption.

The registered security breach at the Green Zone was set off after Sadrists, what followers of the Sadrist movement are referred to, broke into the Green Zone last April. Their protests were sparked by the failure to form a new cabinet.

As for Anbar, the largest governorate in Iraq, over 35 ISIS militants were reportedly killed in an operation run at the border area between Jordan and Iraq.

Anbar governorate encompasses much of the country’s western territory and shares borders with Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

Colonel Ahmed al-Dulaimi, speaking from inside the Anbar operation rooms, said that collaborative efforts of the Iraqi Army, police officers, tribal members and both the international coalition and Iraqi air campaigns, have successfully taken down 35 ISIS terrorists, and 5 armed vehicles have been destroyed.

The operation took place aiming to free the security station Bustan, which is located near the Iraq-Jordan border.

Al-Dulaimi added that security forces had spread across the premise, and are currently clearing the scene from land mines and explosives planted by the terrorist organization. He also added that the Trebil border crossing will be opened as soon as possible.

Trebil is a village in the Anbar Governorate of Iraq, on the Iraq-Jordan border.

Five Peacekeepers Killed in Mali Ambush
[AnNahar] The U.N. on Thursday said five Chadian peacekeepers had been killed and three others maimed during an ambush in northeastern Mali, raising concern over the rising body count of its mission in the country.

The attack, which took place on Wednesday, occurred as the soldiers were escorting a convoy in Aguelhok in the Kidal region. They hit a landmine and then came under sustained gunfire, according to a statement on the U.N. Mali mission's social media accounts.

"Five... peacekeepers were killed and three seriously maimed during an ambush," it said.

"Following the attack, three suspects were captured and will be transferred to the relevant authorities," said interim mission chief Koen Davidse, who described the ambush as "despicable".

Known by the acronym MINUSMA, the Mali mission is the most dangerous active deployment for U.N. peacekeepers and it has been hit by sharp internal tensions since its launch in July 2013.

Wednesday's attack was the worst since a February attack on the MINUSMA camp in Kidal by Malian Islamist group Ansar Dine in which seven Guineans were killed.

So far, 59 peacekeepers have been killed while in active service, while another four have died in friendly fire incidents, U.N. figures show.

U.N. Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon presented his condolences to the victims' families and demanded the attackers be swiftly brought to justice. He said attacking peacekeepers was a war crime. Ban has previously alluded to "persistent operational difficulties" faced by the force, and reiterated a call for the Malian government to step up security in the north of the country.

La Belle France's Barkhane force, which comprises 3,500 soldiers stationed across Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger, said it had deployed logistical support following the ambush.

Spokesman Colonel Gilles Jaron said the French army had sent two helicopters and soldiers to secure the area. "This allowed the helicopters to pick up the maimed Chadians and evacuate them to Gao immediately," Jaron said, referring to the largest city in northern Mali.

"This situation just shows how tense the situation in this area remains," Jaron added.

With temperatures now hitting 50 celsius and sandstorms whipping up impossible conditions for road travel, the international missions face formidable challenges, and the French are also relying on drones to monitor the area.

Mali's vast, desolate north continues to be beset by violence, having fallen under the control of Tuareg-led rebels and jihadist groups linked to Al-Qaeda in 2012.

A landmark peace agreement was reached last year between the Mali government and the rebels, but jihadist violence remains a threat and the Malian government has been unable to maintain security with domestic forces alone.

Tunisian Islamists Ennahda move to separate politics, religion
[Ynet] Tunisia's Islamist party Ennahda will separate its political and religious work, its chief said on Friday, moving away from its tradition of political Islam.

Ennahda was the first Islamist party to come to power in the wake of the 2011 Arab Spring revolutions and it took part in the first government coalition after the overthrow of Tunisia's autocratic leader Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.

It won the first post-uprising election by appealing to many Tunisians who saw its Islamist identity as an antidote to the years of corruption and repression under the Ben Ali government in one of the region's most secular nations.

Iraq
The Beatings Will Continue: Mosul Edition
25 executed in Mosul

MOSUL: In a barbaric act, the dreaded Daesh group executed 25 Iraqi prisoners in northern Iraq’s Mosul by lowering them in a vat filled with nitric acid.

Daesh had accused the victims of spying for the Iraqi security and government forces, said a report in the Daily Mail.

Witness accounts revealed that 25 prisoners were tied together with a rope and then thrown into a large basin containing nitric acid until all their organs and bones dissolved completely.

Nitric acid is considered to be a strong acid and oxidant. It has a catastrophic effect on human flesh. It causes the skin tissue to melt, often exposing the bones below the flesh and even dissolving the bones.

Recently, Daesh has revealed a new form of punishment for their prisoners — stabbing directly in the heart in order to kill them. The terrorists had stabbed an unidentified man right in his heart, before shooting him dead.

Last month, the group released a series of photographs of two spies being crucified and shot in the head.

The entire incident was captured on camera by the barbaric fighters and was broadcast on the terror group’s propaganda channel ‘Wilayat Al-Raqqah’ meaning ‘The province of Raqqah.’
Meanwhile, Daesh terrorists are gearing up for a campaign of bomb attacks on large crowds in France, host to next month’s Euro 2016 soccer championships, its spy chief has said.

Rare remarks by Patrick Calvar, the head of France’s DGSI internal intelligence agency, to the Parliament’s defence committee spelled out “a new form of attack ... characterized by placing explosive devices in places where there are large crowds and repeating this type of action to create a climate of maximum panic.

“Clearly, France is the most threatened and we know that Daesh is planning new attacks,” Calvar said.

3 executed for spying

[ARA News] ERBIL – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) publicly executed three civilians in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province on charges of spying for the Kurdish Peshmerga force, local activists and eyewitnesses reported on Saturday.

The three victims were arrested by ISIS militants on Friday evening while trying to escape the Safina village in the Qayyarah district in southern Mosul.

“The ISIS-linked Sharia Court in Mosul claimed that interrogations revealed the involvement of the three young men in leaking security information about the group to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces,” media activist Abdullah al-Malla told ARA News in Mosul.

“They were beheaded in front of hundreds of people in central Mosul,” the source reported.

Speaking to ARA News, head of Nineveh media centre Raafat al-Zarari confirmed the execution report, saying: “By such executions, ISIS is trying to send a message to the Peshmerga, Iraqi army and the US-led coalition that the group is still powerful and is able to uncover any attempts to leak security information about its activities to those forces.”

has released a new 22-minute Arabic-language documentary on purported Indian jihadists in its ranks, providing the first interviews with five runaway jihadists known to have joined the ranks of fighters in Iraq and Syria since 2014.

The video, released online on Friday, is the first propaganda the Islamic State has produced with content focused on India and South Asia.

Thane engineering student Fahad Tanvir Sheikh who travelled to Syria in 2014 along with three other men from the city, as first reported in The Indian Express, is the only individual conclusively identified in the video, in which he uses the pseudonym Abu Amr’ al-Hindi.

"We will return," Sheikh vows, "but with a sword in hand, to avenge the Babri Masjid, and the killings of Muslims in Kashmire, in Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
, and in Muzaffarnagar."

Sheikh also pays homage to his friend from Thane, Shahim Tanki, who is said to have been killed in a kaboom in Raqqa last year.

The third member of the group, Areeb Majid, is now being prosecuted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The video also features several still-to-be-identified members, suspected to be once of the Indian Mujahideen

Algerian Army Intensifies Operations to Thwart ISIS
Algeria- The Ministry of National Defense in Algeria announced on Friday that the national army had reportedly killed an extremist at the Bouïra area, a tribal region east of the capital city.

The extremist was killed by a military operation which had been launched a week ago, leaving three extremists dead. The army has stepped up its activities in Bouïra after the military authorities received information indicating ISIS sleeper cells being present in the area.

Special forces, partaking in the military campaign, were seen approaching thick forest zones believed to be the terrorists’ hideout. It was at the same location that a French hiker was abducted in September 2014.

The national army had reportedly killed, in 2014, ISIS prominent leader Abdelmalek Kore who was allegedly responsible for the kidnap.

Three girls have recently escaped from Bouïra to join ISIS in Libya. All three of them are believed to be wives of Algerian militants who were killed by the national army in the past.

On the other hand, the national army announced destroying three terrorist hideouts and neutralizing explosive mines in the Tizi Ouzou province, located 100 kilometers away from the capital.

Tizi Ouzou is known for containing al Qaeda strongholds in the Islamic Maghreb. Abdelmalek Droukdel leader of the Algerian Islamic militant group Al-Qaeda, who has been chased by military intelligence since 2005, is also assumed to be sited there.

The highly tribal area of Tizi Ouzou recently has been experiencing increased security measures aiming to foil any sleeper cells sought for recruitment. The terrorist rings have been gradually terminated over the last few years.

Security reports show that Libyan ISIS members have been transferring units into tribal zones, in hopes of rebooting what they call “Jihad” activities. Border regulation authorities note Libya as an untold threat, which led thousands of army soldiers to line up across borders in order to prevent terrorists from crossing over or traffic arms into Algeria.

Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel discussed terrorism crossing the borders shared by Algeria, Libya and Tunisia in his meeting with British diplomat Mark Lyall Grant.

When Messahel spoke to media, he mentioned that the two-days long meeting had delved into security details and has sought out solutions for posed threats. The state-of-affairs of the Sahel area- the biogeographic zone of transition in Africa between the Sahara Desert to the north and the Sudanian Savanna to the south- currently has the focus of ongoing deliberations with the British delegation.

Terrorism, organized crime, border control and extremist groups such as ISIS, al Qaeda and Boko Haram, said Messahel.

Terror Networks
What do we know about Baghdadi’s bodyguard?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Security officials in the Kurdistan region recently announced the death of Ali Aswad al-Zubai Abu Mujahid, the head of intelligence office in ISIS. More importantly, he was described as the one responsible for the safety of the group’s leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
According to intelligence information gathered so far, al-Aswad was targeted by an Arclight airstrike carried out by the international coalition near the village of Tel Azba in the Nineveh province of northern Iraq. Two other senior ISIS leaders were said to have been with him at the time of the attack.

Born in 1978 in Khan Dhari in Iraq, al-Aswad was known to be an bad boy affiliated to hard-line organizations that were affected by the return of Afghan Iraqis. He is said to have been close to al-Baghdadi since 2003 and was responsible for his movements and security.

Expert on terrorist groups, Hisham al-Hashimi, says terror leaders who returned from Afghanistan included Mohammed Hussein al-Jubouri who is currently the leader of Ansar al-Sunna, deceased Mohammed al-Falastini, who was the leader of Jund al-Aqsa in Syria, Abdel-Hamid Abu Azzam who runs al-Qaeda’s recruitment network in Europe and Mohammed Saleh, the ISIS secretary in Baghdad.

According to al-Hashimi, these were the leaders who inspired Ali al-Aswad al-Zubai, who was incarcerated in the Bucca prison from 2005 to 2008.

Notably, all the reports explaining the hierarchy of the organization do not put al-Aswad in the top ranks of the leadership. People who have been described as close to the ISIS leader al-Baghdadi include Alaa al-Afri, Abu Ali Anbari, Abu Omar al-Chichani, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, and Abu Sulaiman Nasser.

These reports also suggest that al-Aswad was Baghdadi’s intelligence agent and his personal guard.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Terror at 30,000 feet
Catherine Moreau was watching a movie on her iPad on a flight to Montreal when she felt what she thought was a wire brushing against her.
At least it wasn't snakes.
"I brushed [it] away and it started tickling me again. That's when I noticed the tarantula," Moreau told CBC News.
Does she have an island somewhere?
"I hit it to get it off me before it bit."
What's that climbing up my wall? Black and hairy very small. Where's he gone now I can't see. Hope that he's as scared as me. Boris the Spider.
Now Moreau is asking Air Transat for a partial refund over her encounter with the spider.

The tarantula that climbed her leg was one of two on a Montreal-bound Air Transat flight from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on April 18, the airline and the union representing its flight attendants have confirmed.
Didn't stay in their seats and fasten seatbelts.
Passengers screamed and stood on their seats after learning they shared the cabin with the eight-legged critters.

Julie Roberts, vice-president of Air Transat's flight attendant union, said flight attendants "did what they could to calm people down."

"They gave first aid to the person who said that a spider climbed [her] legs," she said. Flight attendants also asked passengers to put on their shoes and cover their ankles.

Moreau wants the four flight tickets for her family partially reimbursed by Air Transat. The incident left her scratched and her 11-year-old daughter suffering from shock, she said.

According to Moreau, after she brushed the spider off her leg, it hid under her daughter's luggage. Her husband came and grabbed it and asked for a bag from the cabin crew to hold the spider.

"It took a long time from when we screamed to get a bag to put it in," Moreau said.

That delay was only the beginning of her grievances with Air Transat.

Her daughter has been suffering from nightmares. In addition, Moreau was promised a report from Air Transat so she could identify the spider in case the scratches led to health issues. She never got the report.
Did the scratches lead to health issues?
She said she sent the airline a registered letter about her complaint, which they signed for a week ago, but still hasn't heard back.

She also claims she was stopped from taking a photograph of the spider that would have helped her identify the species.

While the tarantula that crawled up her leg remained in custody, the other spider continued to roam the plane before being recovered by a federal agent once the plane landed at Montreal's Trudeau Airport.
It's sad that today's life makes me think this way, but part of me wonders if Ms. Moreau brought the spiders onto the plane...

EgyptAir plane: fire in front lavatory was first sign
Substantially pared down from the Daily Mail UK.
Smoke alarms were sounding for almost three minutes on board EgyptAir Flight 804 before it plummeted into the sea, investigators have confirmed, leading experts to claim the crash was likely caused by a bomb or 'incendiary device'.

Experts have drawn various conclusions from leaked data about alerts sent out by the doomed jet in its final moments, with many pointing out that for now any information gleaned is 'pure conjecture'.

While the data indicates that something catastrophic did occur on board the plane - seeming to rule out theories that it was deliberately crashed into the sea by a pilot or hijacker - there is disagreement as to whether it points to a bomb or a fire on board. Egyptian investigators have said it is still 'too soon' to make a judgement on what happened based on the information available.

It comes as the first pictures of the mangled wreckage emerged from the crash site.

'It looks like the right front and side window were blown out, most probably from inside out,' an unnamed European airline pilot told the Telegraph, indicating that a bomb on board caused the crash. The pilot pointed out that fog could also have set off the alarms, filling the air due to a sudden loss of cabin pressure.

A screen grab of data leaked by air industry news site The Aviation Herald showed what appeared to be a break-down of the alerts sent out by the plane's Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), before it lost contact at 00.29GMT.

They added that an ‘internal explosion’ seemed to be the most likely explanation, based on the alerts concerning the windows in the cockpit.

Meanwhile aviation analyst David Soucie told CNN that the data indicated a fire on board caused the crash, rather than a bomb.

'If there's fire on board the aircraft, in this area which the ACARS indicates, then something was close to the cockpit,' Mr Soucie said.

'It could have been either something mechanical that had failed, a short circuit, or it could have been an incendiary device of some kind as well.'

ACARS does not provide a cause of the crash, but Mr Soucie said it was significant that the data was sent over a period of one to two minutes.

'Now if it it was a bomb, the characteristic bomb... would have ruptured the skin of the aircraft,' he said. 'This is not the indication you would have had, because a bomb that would do that would be instantaneous and these reports would not have gone over two minutes like they do.'

The analyst added that a fire in the front section of the plane may well have affected the communications equipment.

According to the leaked data, smoke alarms in the lavatory behind the cockpit first began sounding at 00.26GMT. Less than a minute later, smoke was also detected in the avionics.
So a slow-burning device could have been triggered in the front lavatory.
The final two alerts from the plane indicate faults with the FCU - the flight control unit used by the pilot to input instructions into the flight computer - and the SEC 3 - the computer that controls the plane's spoilers and elevator computers.

Agency spokesman Sebastien Barthe confirmed the sounding of the smoke alarms 'generally mean the start of a fire,' but insisted that everything is currently 'pure conjecture.'

Egyptian media have also reported that divers have found the black box close to the crash site. The black box has yet to be recovered by rescuers but could provide vital clues into what caused the plane to crash just as it entered Egyptian airspace on its journey to Cairo.

Somalia President planning to dissolve parliament
Federal Government of Somalia’s (FGS) President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is planning to dissolve parliament ahead of presidential and parliamentary election and selection processes later this year, Garowe Online reports.

The decision is said to be under pondering as western donors and members of International Community say they are disappointed that the 275-seat-chamber of national assembly failed to pass 2016 electoral transition. Mohamud is in clockwork talks with his Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker and regional presidents at Villa Somalia.

Presidency sources tell GO that a parliamentary session has once more been postponed on Saturday for concerns over the future of Somalia Election Blueprint should parliament decline to vote in favor.

197 MPs, a greater majority compared to those who attended recent sessions have trooped into parliament house, overshadowing intense political discussions in Mogadishu with possible relapse into politics of chaos.

Mohamud is seeking support from regional presidents for controversial scheme to include members representing Banadir region in the Upper House. Somali President will decree National Election Proposal (NEP) if parliament repeals it tomorrow, meaning lawmakers would be disbanded as soon as possible.

UN delegates called for swift endorsement of election modality jointly introduced by Somali political leaders on April 12.

Minority rights campaigner Mina Thabet detained on incitement charges
[Al Ahram] Prominent Egyptian rights campaigner Mina Thabet was remanded in jug for fifteen days on Saturday by prosecutors in Cairo, to be investigated on charges including seeking to overturn the regime and joining a terrorist group.

Thabet, the programme director for minorities and marginalised groups at the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, was taken from his home during a raid by plainclothes police in the early hours of Thursday morning, the NGO has said.

On Thursday a prosecutor ordered him detained for an initial four days, on charges of inciting unlicenced protests, calling for the overthrow of the regime, inciting attacks on cop shoppes, and joining a terrorist group that prevents state insituttions from doing their work, according to ECRF lawyer Doaa Mostafa, who was quoted in the local press.

International rights watchdog Amnesia Amnesty International condemned the arrest as a "flagrant attack against freedom of expression and association" and in a Thursday release described Thabet as "a pillar of Egypt’s human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
community" who "has tirelessly worked to defend the rights of minority groups, including Coptic Christians."

Thabet is the second employee of the ECRF to be tossed in the calaboose
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in recent weeks; on 25 April, Ahmed Abdallah, the director of the NGO's board, was arrested at his home. He has since been charged with inciting unlicenced protests, among other offences.

Seeking to kick jihadi threat, French warily eye martial arts clubs
[IsraelTimes] Officials see clubs for judo, kickboxing and other sports as fertile ground for terror recruiters, places for attackers to hone skills

Combat sports are booming around the world but in La Belle France they increasingly draw the attention of intelligence services hunting potential jihadists. Long concentrated in poor suburbs and with no real organization watching over their activities, critics say the mixed martial arts, judo, kickboxing and other clubs are ideal for fomenting radicalization and jihadist training. Ironically, many of the clubs get subsidies from French town halls.
Perhaps they should subsidize soccer clubs instead? Basketball? Competitive knitting?
They could subsidize wine tasting, sitting about in cafés, and fashion design...
Mederic Chapitaux, who has written a book, "Sport, The Fault In State Security," about the phenomenon, believes La Belle France should not be alone in worrying.

Balochistan minister's son kidnapped
QUETTA: The son of Balochistan’s local government minister, Sardar Mustafa Khan Tareen, was kidnapped by armed men from Pishin on Saturday.

“Unknown armed men kidnapped the son of Balochistan’s local government minister from the Cadet College area of Pishin,” said District Police Officer (DPO) Pishin Hayee Baloch.

The DPO added that the kidnappers abandoned his vehicle close to the college, soon after kidnapping him.

A search operation was launched soon after by security forces in the area, with several suspects detained in connection with the kidnapping.

DPO Pishin did not share details of the arrested suspects.

Chief Minister Balochistan Nawaz Sanaullah Zehri has taken notice of the incident and has ordered the provincial police to increase their efforts for the recovery of the minister’s son.

A tribal jirga in Pishin announced a shutter-down strike in protest against the kidnapping. The jirga was attended by political, tribal and religious leaders.

Home minister Sarfaraz Bugti also reached Pishin to review the progress related to recovery efforts ongoing for the minister’s son.

Tareen was elected as an MPA from Pishin district in 2013, and is affilitated with Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP).

Militants have conducted attacks against security forces and national installations in Balochistan, which has been plagued by an insurgency and growing sectarian killings for more than a decade.

2 traffic police officials shot dead in Karachi
KARACHI: Two traffic police officials were shot dead in a targeted attack by unidentified assailants in Ayesha Manzil area of the metropolis on Saturday, reported DawnNews.

"One official traffic police official died on the spot and the other official died while being transported to the hospital," said rescue sources.

Both officials were shot multiple times from close range.

"There were four traffic police officials deployed at the Ayesha Manzil traffic section, however, at the time of attack two officials had gone for prayers while the other two were performing their duty," said DIG West Feroze Shah.

Shah added that both police officials were shot in the neck and above, and one of the officials tried to return fire but was shot before he could retaliate.

Emergency and security services reached the spot of the attack and started their initial investigations.

Police officials recovered a spent 9mm casing from the crime scene. The assailants managed to escape the scene of the incident.

Qaim Ali Shah directs Sindh IG to arrest culprits

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the killing of two traffic constables and directed IG Sindh A.D Khwaja to arrest the culprits.

The chief minister said the attack on police, rangers or on any other government force is “unacceptable”.

The IG briefed the Sindh chief minister about the incident and vowed to arrest the culprits very soon.

Shah also asked the Sindh IG to take proper care of the family members of the assassinated traffic policemen.

Earlier in September, a traffic police constable was shot dead while two others sustained bullet wounds in an armed attack in Site-B area of the metropolis.

In August, two policemen helping traffic police in the busy Saddar area were gunned down by armed riders when they were asked to stop.

Police officials suspect that three militant groups have become ‘active’ in targeting policemen after a lull in such activities.

Islamic State carries out third attack on Christian district in Qamishlo
[ARA News] QAMISHLO – On Saturday evening three Islamic State (ISIS) attackers killed scores of civilians and injured a dozen more in an indiscriminate attack in the al-Wusta district of Syria’s northeastern city of Qamishli [Qamishlo]. This is the third attack the extremist group carries out against locals in the same district mainly populated by Christians.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it targeted Kurdish forces in Qamishli. “Martyrdom commando’s launched on attack on army positions in central Qamishli against Kurdish units,” the ISIS-linked Amaq agency said on Saturday.

The ISIS members started the attack by firing randomly on civilians with automatic weapons and throwing grenades before attempting to carry out suicide attacks in the Miami street near the Dominos and Miami restaurant of Wusta district.

Eyewitnesses in the restaurant who escaped the attack suggested an attacker shouted ‘Allah Akbar’ before exploding himself at the entrance of the restaurant.

Local sources confirmed the death of six civilians and the injury of a dozen others as a result of the terrorist attack on the Christian district in Qamishli.

Also on Saturday, at least five members of the Kurdish security forces of Asayish were killed after two car bomb attacks hit a security headquarter in the Alia town in Hasakah province, northeastern Syria, officials said.

“Two car bombs exploded near the Asayish centre in Alia town in Tel Temir countryside of Hasakah province on Saturday. Five Kurdish Asayish forces died due to the terror attack,” the Asayish leadership said in a statement.

“Our forces were killed while trying to prevent the explosive cars from entering the town. They died while trying to prevent civilian casualties,” Asayish officer Ali Abdo told ARA News in Alia town.

The Kurdish security officer accused militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) of being behind the attack.

“We have expelled ISIS terrorists from Tel Temir district and the surround areas. Now the group tries to infiltrate into the district and kill more innocent civilians, especially Christians and Kurds, but we stress that we’ll do our best in order to protect the people of this region against this barbaric group and its atrocities,” he told ARA News.
