1,037 Syrian Refugees Admitted in May: Two Christians, 1,035 Muslims
The number of Syrian refugees admitted into the United States jumped to 1,037 during May - an increase of 130 percent over the previous month - but the proportion of Christians among them remains miniscule: two Christians (0.19 percent) compared to 1,035 Muslims.

May's figure of 1,037 Syrian refugees brings the total number since the beginning of 2016 to 2,099 - compared to 2,192 for the whole of 2015, according to State Department Refugee Processing Center data.

Earlier years since the Syrian civil war began saw much smaller numbers arriving - 20 in 2011 (dated from mid-March); 41 in 2012; 45 in 2013; and 249 in 2014.

Of the 2,099 Syrian refugees admitted so far this year, six (0.28 percent) are Christians, 2,043 (97.3 percent) are Sunni Muslims. The remaining 50 are 17 (0.8 percent) Shi'a, 30 (1.4 percent) other Muslims and 10 (0.47 percent) Yazidis.

Similar proportions are seen in the number of Syrian refugees having arrived in the U.S. since the start of fiscal year 2016: 2,773 in total, comprising 12 (0.4 percent) Christians, 2,703 (97.4 percent) Sunnis, 17 (0.6 percent) Shi'a, 30 (1.1 percent) other Muslims and 10 (0.3 percent) Yazidis.

And since the conflict erupted, of a total of 4,646 Syrian refugees admitted, 60 (1.3 percent) are Christians; 4,422 (95.1 percent) are Sunni Muslims. The remaining 163 include Shi'a, other Muslims, Zoroastrians, Baha'i, Jehovah's Witnesses, Yazidi, and refugees identified as "other religion" or as having "no religion."

Syrians of all faith and ethnic backgrounds have been fleeing their homeland, with almost five million now registered by the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR as "persons of concern."

They have done so to escape the violence and deprivation generally, or to get away specifically from ISIS, other jihadists rebel groups, or the Assad regime - which is itself a minority regime that has committed atrocities, including alleged war crimes, against majority Sunnis and others.

Although Syrians of all stripes have been affected, the number of Christians among those admitted into the U.S. - 1.3 percent - remains significantly smaller than the proportion of Christians in the total population when the war began - an estimated 10 percent, according to the CIA World Factbook.

Last week, Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) said the very small proportion of Christians among Syrian refugees resettled in the U.S. "has got to change."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Ghost-hunters hears groans in a graveyard, shocked when it turns out to be a pron shoot
A tour group for ghost hotspots was visiting a graveyard when they stumbled upon a set for a pornographic film.

The group were examining gravestones on the south side of Sculcoates Lane in Hull last month, when they heard groans.

When they went to investigate, presumably searching for paranormal activity, they found a couple having sex on a patch of ivy, filmed by two men.
I guess instead of paranormal, you'll have to settle for abnormal.
All involved in the production were so preoccupied they did not realise the group had found them.

The tour guide, Mike Covell, told the Hull Daily Mail:
"Normally there's no reason to tell anyone about this kind of thing, but maybe I can turn it into free advertising."
"It was the couple who saw us first. They were going at it like knives among the ivy. She was a blonde.

We looked at her and she looked at us. Then she pushed the bloke off her. The guy ran after her desperately trying to protect his privates from the brambles.

We did not know where to look. Good job all 12 people on the tour were adults because sometimes kids come along.

One elderly man was so incensed, he was ready to chase after them with his walking stick but I persuaded him to calm down and eat his sandwiches."

The graveyard, which has graves from the 1840s to 1959, is now overgrown and was thought to be haunted by monks and children whose bones were moved during redevelopment of the site.

A spokesperson for Sculcoates Neighbourhood Association said:

"This is the first time I have heard of anything this. There are always people in society who will push the boundaries.
Heh. You don't get out much, do you?
The cemetery has a rich history. Philip Larkin used to ride his bike through it. So we all hope this is a one off."

a woman has been expelled for allegedly sexually assaulting a man
h/t Instapundit
It's finally happened -- a woman was accused of sexual assault by a man and ended up being expelled under the same terrible policies that have railroaded so many male students.

The woman, identified as "Rose" by Buzzfeed News, tells a story similar to that of so many young college men. While drinking at a party, she and a male student went to her room and performed oral sex on each other. The male student left briefly to get a condom before the two began intercourse.

House Democrats ask to review Benghazi report before it is released
[The Hill] House Democrats are asking for a chance to review the GOP's report on the Benghazi terrorist attacks before it is released to the public.

The five Democrats on the House Select Committee on Benghazi sent a letter to Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) proposing a "joint report" on Benghazi that starts with findings shared by lawmakers in both parties "followed by areas on which reasonable people may disagree."

Failing that, Democrats said they should be able to review a draft copy of the Republican-led committee's work, in order to add "corrections, additional context or other input before you release it publicly." In exchange, Democrats said they would let Republicans review their own opposing report for the same purpose.

"In our view, the worst approach would be for you to publicly release a partisan report drafted only by Republicans that has never been reviewed by nearly half of the select committee members," ranking member Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and the committee's four other Democrats wrote.

"Such a report would not have the benefit of robust vetting by all select committee members and, as a result, very likely would include critical errors and other deficiencies."

#6  So they can prepare the spin and get in front of the press cycle. Screw them. They have fought and complained the whole way. Let them put their misgivings in their rebuttal report. Then file charge of obstruction against them.

Yet again, another example of just how broken our congress is. An ambassador is brutally murdered and the investigation is a partisan event. All of them in congress needs to bow before our Statue of Liberty and beg forgiveness.

What music are British special forces playing at ISIS to freak them out?
[Mirror] Special forces soldiers have found a type of music that un-nerves Islamic State fighters.

British special forces troops are "freaking out" Islamic State fighters by blasting Bollywood music at them.

The psychological warfare strategy is aimed at discrediting the extremists who claim the music is "apostasy" or un-Islamic.

They came up with the idea after a Pakistani-born army intelligence officer with the British Army told troops Bollywood tunes would annoy ISIS.

Bollywood tunes are often referred to as Hindi film songs as they come from northern India and are also followed in neighboring Pakistan.

Ultra-conservative parts of predominantly Muslim Pakistan have banned it for being frivolous and un-religious.
...which they are, and all the more delightful because of it.
Dozens of special forces are in Libya training local forces in how to push out ISIS, but they are there in a non-combat role, except if attacked.

Sweden: ONLY 494 of 163,000 2015 Asylum Seekers Have Jobs
[Gateway Pundit] Of almost 163,000 people who applied for asylum in Sweden last year, less than 500 landed a job, according to a report by a Swedish public broadcaster.
The native Swedes are happy to support 162,500 settlers...
Using figures from Sweden’s employment agency ArbetsfĂśrmedlingen and migration authorities Migrationsverket, SVT reported on Tuesday that 494 asylum seekers who arrived in 2015 have managed to find a job to support themselves while waiting for their application to get processed.

A person who arrives in Sweden with valid identification documents and has applied for asylum is normally allowed to work despite not yet having a work or residence permit, if Migrationsverket grants them an exception.

Such an exception is called the ’at-und’ and usually gets processed automatically, reported SVT. However, only a third of asylum seekers aged 20-64 were given one in a year when Sweden received an unprecedented number of asylum claims.

"It was an incredible number of people applying for asylum in Sweden and so that we would be able to register all of them, we had to de-prioritize certain tasks, and that was the matter of jobs," Migrationsverket officer Lisa Bergstrand told SVT.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Former State Dept. chief of staff blames Clinton email bungle on Benghazi
[Wash Times] Cheryl Mills, the former chief of staff at the State Department, partly blamed the Benghazi terrorist attack for former Secretary Hillary Clinton failing to turn over her emails as she left office in 2013, saying there was "a lot going on" that distracted them from fulfilling their obligations under open records laws.
'Distracted' from doing her job, a fairly common Foggy Bottom malady.
Ms. Mills, in sworn testimony ordered by a federal judge taken last week and released Tuesday, said Mrs. Clinton and her team were occupied with too many other things to think about going through their official records and making sure they remained with the department -- a requirement of multiple federal laws and agency policies.

Among those were Mrs. Clinton’s upcoming departure from office and the September 2012 attack that cost the life of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

"The secretary was not only transitioning, there had been a -- we had lost our first ambassador in quite some time, and we were stepping through the sets of issues associated with that. And she, too, had fallen ill, and there -- and there had been a period of time where we were obviously navigating a whole set of issues in that space," Ms. Mills said. "So I don’t know that this was something that I focused on, and certainly I wish I had."
The shredders were breaking down and we were constantly running out of 'burn bags.'
Blaming the Benghazi attack is a striking explanation, given that it was the 2012 attack -- and the congressional probe into it -- that first exposed Mrs. Clinton’s use of a secret email account tied to a server kept at her home in New York.

Ms. Mills said she can’t even remember if she and Mrs. Clinton talked about how to secure and store her emails as they left office together.
Now suffers from chronic CRS. How convenient.

EU warns Israel continued Palestinians home demolitions will harm ties
The ties in question being the noose EU keeps trying to place around Israel's neck?
The European Union has warned Israel that its policy of demolishing illegal Palestinians homes -- including construction it has funded -- is harming ties between Israel and its 28-member states.

It issued it’s warning at a closed door meeting last week between EU officials in Israel and representatives from the office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories. Among those present were EU Ambassador to Israel Lars Faaborg Andersen and COGAT head Maj. Gen Yoav Mordechai.
I only speak for myself, but, "Hey scrotes, shouldn't you worry about what'll happen to you when Europeans rise because you inflicted millions of Palestinian equivalents on them?".

Outspoken conservative singer Steve Hofmeyr uninvited to Den Hague event
[IOL] Steve Hofmeyr may as well rename The Netherlands The NEVERlands, because his show there just got cancelled.

The outspoken musician was scheduled to speak at a restaurant called Studio Dudok in Den Haag. Hofmeyr’s talk appears to have been scheduled as part of a political tour through the region, during which he intended to lecture on the dangers facing Afrikaaners in Africa. The Agter Elke Man actor was to deliver a speech at the Flemish Parliament in Brussels on Monday, titled Warnings From Africa.

That he was denied the chance to do so in The Netherlands is thanks to the efforts of fellow South Africans living there. According to Johan de Villiers of the African-European Indaba - a community for Africans living in Europe - the Hofmeyr talk was cancelled after he appealed to Studio Dudok "not be associated with his racially provocative statements".

Weeks earlier, de Villiers had warned of Hofmeyr's impending visit.

"Hofmeyr is coming here to 'file motions', among other things, together with the most right-wing parties for governments here to call upon the South African government to address farm murders more seriously," he told a Dutch news channel. De Villiers added that he also wanted the South African government to address this issue, but not at the expense of other criminal activity.

On their Facebook page, Studio Dudok explained their decision to can the Hofmeyr talk.

"We as Dudok have always taken a stance against any kind of discrimination and racism. We like to be a place where everyone feels welcome as a guest or employee."

Hofmeyr replied in highly dramatic fashion, apologising to all farmers on his Facebook page, and portraying those who protested against his visit as traitors.

"The freedom and invitation to tell our story is not being stopped by the Dutch ‐ they were the ones who invited me ‐ but by South Africans in the Netherlands who know we are busy hiding something gruesome."

Hofmeyr also claimed it was a "cheap shot" to label him a racist and right wing.

Scientists find evidence of global warming on Mars
[Wash Times] Earth isn’t the only planet grappling with climate change, although this other orb doesn’t have much in the way of fossil fuel emissions or a 97 percent of scientific "consensus" on global warming.

Newly published evidence suggests Mars is experiencing global warming as it emerges from an ice age.

The red planet, which moved closer to the Earth on Monday than at any other time since 2005, has retreated from a glacial period that would have covered large areas in white before the thaw about 370,000 years ago, according to a study published Friday in the journal Science.

The research was conducted using an instrument on board the NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter that allowed an unprecedented examination of "the most recent Martian ice age recorded in the planet’s north polar ice cap," according to a NASA press release.

Research was led by planetary scientist Isaac B. Smith at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado.

"We found an accelerated accumulation rate of ice in the uppermost 100 to 300 meters of the polar cap," Mr. Smith said in a statement on the SRI website. "The volume and thickness of ice matches model predictions from the early 2000s. Radar observations of the ice cap provide a detailed history of ice accumulation and erosion associated with climate change."

Europe
'Dirty Jew!': Antisemitism Forces French Jews to Leave Suburbs of Paris
[PJ] During the Second World War, French Jews were persecuted like never before. They lived in Paris and its suburbs for centuries, and were always left alone. They truly felt French... or, to be more precise (anyone who knows anything about Paris knows that the inhabitants consider themselves different from the rest of the country), Parisian.

Hitler and his Nazi scum couldn't have cared less about any of that, however. They considered Jews to be subhuman and sent them to concentration camps where they were systematically slaughtered.

After the Americans, British and Canadians liberated France, Frenchmen discovered what had happened to their Jewish neighbors. They immediately made clear that they would never allow something like that to happen again. "Never again" became an international rallying cry.

Well, with "never" they apparently meant "until 2016":

Jews who have lived peacefully in the suburbs of Paris are now having to move to other parts of the country or head for Israel to escape anti-Semitism.
When Alain Benhamou walked into his apartment near Paris in July 2015 and saw the words "dirty Jew" scrawled on the wall, he knew it was time to leave.

It was his second such break-in in less than three months and the 71-year-old no longer felt welcome in Bondy, a Parisian suburb he had called home for more than 40 years.

"Until the years 2000-2005, the town was nice and quiet, with 250 to 300 Jewish families and synagogues full on the Sabbath," Benhamou says.

"Now, only about a hundred Jewish families remain."

Benhamou is one of many Parisian Jews who have decided to move elsewhere, in his case to Villemomble, where there is a bigger Jewish community. Like other persecuted minorities, French Jews now find peace and security in numbers. Separated from other Jews, they are easy victims of the new anti-Semites who have taken over large parts of France's big cities and especially its capital.

'Too many' refugees in Europe, sez Dalai Lama
[IOL] Berlin - The Dalai Lama said in an interview published on Thursday that Europe has accepted "too many" refugees, and that they should eventually return to help rebuild their home countries.

"When we look into the face of every single refugee, especially the children and women, we can feel their suffering," said the Tibetan spiritual leader, who has himself lived in exile for over half a century.

"A human being who is a bit more fortunate has the duty to help them. On the other hand, there are too many now," he said, according to the German translation of the interview in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

"Europe, for example Germany, cannot become an Arab country," he added with a laugh, the daily reported.
Obviously he's not visited the Netherlands or The Hague recently.
"Germany is Germany.

"There are so many that in practice it becomes difficult."

The Dalai Lama added that "from a moral point of view too, I think that the refugees should only be admitted temporarily".

"The goal should be that they return and help rebuild their countries."

Germany last year took in 1.1 million people fleeing war and misery in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries, but the flow was reduced sharply by the decision of Balkan countries to close their borders to people travelling through Turkey and into northern Europe.

The Dalai Lama also said in the interview, conducted in Dharamsala, seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile in northern India, that he hopes to one day return to Tibet.

"Maybe in a few years," said the 80-year-old.

"If an opportunity for my return arises, or at least for a short visit, that would be a source of great joy."

Thousands of Tibetans have fled their Himalayan homeland since China sent in troops in 1951, and many have settled in India.

IS Presses Assault on Rebel Territory in North Syria
[An Nahar] Fighting along Syria's northern border intensified Tuesday as the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group pressed an offensive against a key swathe of rebel territory where thousands of civilians remain trapped, a monitor said.

IS swept towards the opposition strongholds of Marea and nearby Azaz in Aleppo province on Friday, forcing thousands of civilians to flee.

Rebel groups in Azaz tried to launch a counter-offensive on Tuesday but failed, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

IS blocked the attack with a jacket wallah, killing six rebel fighters, the Britannia-based monitor said.

"The battles are intensifying," said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

The U.N. relief agency said thousands of civilians were still trapped in Marea and a nearby town after Kurdish authorities closed the main road towards the autonomous Kurdish canton of Afrin to the west.

"Due to the closure of the Marea-Afrin road, an estimated 7,000 civilians are effectively trapped in Marea and Sheikh Issa towns," the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on Monday.

Some 2,000 people had already managed to leave Marea and Sheikh Issa before the road was closed on Sunday, OCHA said.

Around 5,000 people in total have been displaced by fighting since Friday, and the situation remains "volatile and unpredictable," it said.

The U.N.'s humanitarian coordinator for Syria, Yacoub El Hillo, called on gangs to "ensure the unhindered movement and protection of civilians trying to reach safety."

Kurdish authorities on Sunday announced the closure of the two roads from Afrin to Marea and Azaz in response to rebel shelling of a majority-Kurdish district of the quiet provincial capital, Aleppo city.

The Observatory said rebels continued to shell the Sheikh Maqsud neighborhood on Tuesday.

Rebels have been shelling Sheikh Maqsud for months after an advance by Kurdish forces into rebel territory west of Marea, Abdel Rahman said.

Epix Removes Katie Couric Documentary From Its Website
[MEDIAITE] The cable network behind the Katie Couric-produced documentary Under the Gun has pulled the film from its website a day after Couric apologized and admitted it contained a misleading edit of gun proponents’ remarks.

Pro-gun blog BearingArms.com first noticed that attempting to watch the film now brings up a message saying "This movie is not currently playing on Epix."

In a statement to The Washington Examiner, the channel denied the Epix original documentary was taken down because of the controversy.
"It wasn't us, we didn't do it, and we'll never do it again."
"As of today, the doc moves out of the premium window ‐ off of EPIX ‐ and into a transactional window. This is part of the original agreement we struck when we acquired the doc coming out of the Sundance Film Festival," a spokeswoman said.

Afghanistan, Pakistan territory should not be used against each other: Sartaj
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak foreign affairs adviser Sartaj PrunefaceAziz
...Adviser to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, who believes in good jihadis and bad jihadis as a matter of national policy...
has said that Afghanistan and Pakistain should not allow the use of their territory against each other.

During a meeting with the Afghan Ambassador Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, Aziz expressed serious concerns over the US drone strikes in Pakistain, according to the local media reports.

The meeting between Aziz and Zakhilwal followed days after the Taliban supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor was killed in a US drone strike in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province of Pakistain.

The two sides reportedly discussed bilateral ties, the border situation the Afghan reconciliation process, and several matters of importance including the fate of Afghan grinding of the peace processor following the death of Mulla Mansour.

The remarks by Aziz to prevent the use of territory against each other comes as the Afghan officials have long been critizing Pakistain for allowing the Afghan Death Eater groups use its soil as a safe haven to plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

Both the Taliban group and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network leadership councils are believed to be based in Pakistain.

US warns summer’s Europe-bound Americans of terror risks
[IsraelTimes] The US State Department is warning Americans visiting Europe this summer about the potential for terrorist attacks.

Tuesday’s travel alert says major sporting events, tourist sites, restaurants and shopping centers are possible targets.

La Belle France is hosting soccer’s European Championship and cycling’s Tour de La Belle France, while under an extended state of emergency. Two-and-a-half million visitors are expected in Krakow, Poland, for the Catholic Church’s World Youth Day in late July.

The department is telling US citizens to be vigilant in public places or when using mass transportation. They also should be prepared for additional security screening and unexpected disruptions.

The warning expires August 31.
"Now we're covered if those dreadful tourists get caught up in something over there. Thank goodness it's not our job to warn about the 1,000 open terror cases the FBI is working here at home!"

Outrage Over Verdun ‘Art Performance’ Desecration
[BREITBART] An art performance that saw over three thousand youths trample the graves of the war dead at Verdun and "fight" with each other has been widely condemned.

To mark the 100 year anniversary of the World War One Battle of Verdun the ruling Socialist party, headed by French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
, organised a performance that has been condemned for being in poor taste and disrespectful.

Some 3,400 French and German teenagers ran across the graves of the war dead at the Verdun memorial where they pretended to play fight with each other to the sound of drumming. French politicians from the Front National to the Republicans expressed their outrage at the performance, Le Figaro reports.

The performance, choreographed by German film maker Volker Schlondorff, was meant to symbolise the battle of Verdun but many felt it made a mockery of the war dead. Leader of the Front National Marine Le Pen wrote on Twitter in the immediate aftermath of the performance: "at Verdun, the ’show ’ is jogging among the tombs. Indecent, really indecent".

Her comments were followed by those of her niece, rising star of the French right, Marion Maréchal-Le Pen who condemned the ruling Socialist Party in particular, tweeting: "desecrating the graves to the sound of drums to commemorate Verdun: the honour of our ancestors was violated" and then later :"I feel great contempt for the Socialist leaders who organised this event."

bad boy group on Tuesday urged Muslims to destroy their satellite TV sets to prevent hostile channels "destroying their beliefs and polluting their ethics".

The ultra-hardline Sunni group issued its call as military pressure increased against it with offensives targeting its strongholds in Raqqa, Syria, and in Falluja, west of Baghdad.

"The enemies of Islam are waging a media war on the Islamic State that is no less dangerous than the military campaign," the group said in a video on its official Telegram account.

It did not say whether it would try to enforce its appeal in the territory under its control in Syria and Iraq.

It singled out religious channels funded by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and also showed the logos of al-Jazeera and Orient TV, a channel close to the Syrian opposition, as well as the Egyptian religious channel al-Nas.

The video ended with a scene showing people stamping on satellite dishes to destroy them.

Kenya to close world's largest refugee camp 'by November'
[Al Ahram] Kenya is to send Somali refugees in the world's largest camp back to their war-torn country or third nations by November, the interior minister said Tuesday.

The sprawling Dadaab camp on the Kenya-Somalia border hosts some 350,000 refugees, the vast majority of whom fled Somalia's more than two-decade long conflict.

Kenya said earlier this month it would shut down the camp, and set up a team to explore how it could be achieved.

"I want to inform the world that the decision to close Dadaab camp is final," Interior Minister Joseph Ole Nkaissery said after receiving the team's report.

"We hope to close the camp latest by November this year."

Nkaissery said the report would be shared with the UN refugee agency, UNHCR.

"On our side, we will prepare security and ensure it is done in the most humane way," he added, noting the report was "very clear on the timelines" to ensure refugees left.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Drew Peterson found guilty of trying to have prosecutor killed
[Chicago Tribune] Drew Peterson was found guilty Tuesday of trying to hire a hit man to kill the prosecutor who put him behind bars for murder.
Behold! The personification of evil.
The jury deliberated for about an hour before finding Peterson guilty of solicitation of murder for hire and solicitation of murder. The charges carry a prison sentence of up to 60 years.

Peterson sat hunched over, his head leaning on his left hand with his elbow on the defense table as the verdict was read by the judge. Peterson showed no visible reaction to the verdict. As Peterson left the courtroom, he glanced at Cassandra Cales -- the sister of Peterson's missing wife, Stacy Peterson -- and murmured something unintelligible. Several jurors declined to comment afterward.

Peterson, 62, is already serving 38 years for the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow prosecuted the 2012 murder case against Peterson, who tried to arrange for a fellow inmate to hire a relative to kill the prosecutor.

The inmate, Antonio Smith, worked with authorities to record his conversations with Peterson in November 2014.

Smith told Peterson he had arranged for his uncle to kill Glasgow by Christmas 2014.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
UN: Syria Kurds block civilians fleeing ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Civilians fleeing an ISIS offensive in northwestern Syria have been prevented by Syrian Kurdish authorities from entering areas under their control in response to rebel shelling of a Kurdish-held area of Aleppo, the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
said.

The civilians have been fleeing fighting between Syrian rebels and ISIS that advanced into the opposition-held town of Marea at the weekend, a significant advance by the gunnies against Turkish-backed bully boys.

The United Nations has expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
about an estimated 8,000 Syrians trapped by fighting in northern Aleppo.

All the main parties to the Syrian war are fighting in the Aleppo area, and the Turkish-backed rebels who are battling ISIS north of the city have also been involved in hostilities with the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia, which controls wide areas of territory to the west of Marea.

A situation update from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said about 2,000 people had managed to evacuate Marea and nearby Sheikh Issa, which were encircled by ISIS on May 27.

"However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
an estimated 7,000 civilians still remain inside and unable to leave due to restrictions imposed by Kurdish authorities," it added, saying that was a Kurdish response to rebel shelling of Aleppo’s Kurdish-held Sheikh Maqsoud area.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, Buford bit the snake and Eloise began speaking in tongues...
opposition authorities in the rebel-held town of Azaz near the Turkish border have issued a directive to not let in any more people fleeing ISIS-held areas.

The court that issued the order cited fears of infiltration by covert ISIS gunnies posing as internally displaced people (IDPs), after 8,000 IDPs arrived in Azaz, OCHA said.

Taliban kill 17 passengers after kidnapping around 185 in Kunduz
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban bully boyz have killed at least 17 passengers after abducting nearly 200 in the early hours of today in northern Kunduz province.

According to the local government officials, the Talibs have killed at least 12 of the kidnapped passengers.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
a security official, Shir Aziz Kamawal, said the holy warriors have killed at least 17 of the passengers after they were kidnapped from Kunduz-Takhar highway.

The Taliban bully boyz kidnapped at least 185 passengers after establishing a check post on the highway around 2 am local time.

The security officials are saying that the Taliban bully boyz kidnapped the passengers from 4 buses, 3 vans and 3 cars and took them with themselves.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the majority of the passengers were released after they were interrogated by the Taliban bully boyz but at least 17 of them were killed.
Were they Hazeras? In Pakistan the Taliban are fond of killing Hazeras, who are Shiite and show signs of Mongol ancestry.
The officials also added at least 18 of the passengers are still kept by the Taliban bully boyz and have efforts are underway for their release.

MPs Slam War Strategy After 60 Troops Die In Helmand
MPs in the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) on Tuesday slammed the Afghan government for its war strategy on Helmand after Taliban fighters conducted a heavy offensive and inflicted a high casualty toll against embattled Afghan security forces.

Reports have surfaced that up to 60 Afghan security personnel have so far been killed in the past few days in fierce fighting in the province.

This has sparked outrage among Afghan lawmakers who believe that government's war strategy has failed in Helmand.

MPs also sharply criticized security forces and cabinet for not focusing on the security of Helmand.

It is said that some police force units have been under siege by the Taliban for several days.

Fierce fighting broke out in Helmand three days ago after the Taliban made a fresh offensive against the hard-pressed Afghan security forces in the region. Currently, security forces are battling the insurgents on multiple fronts in volatile districts of Nad-e-Ali, Gereshk, Marjah, Nahr-e-Saraj and Khanshin.

There are reports that up to 60 security personnel have been killed in the latest wave of fighting. It is also said that up to 10 check posts have collapsed to the Taliban.

Angered by government's poor war strategy in Helmand, meanwhile, a number of Helmand MPs have said that the bodies of fallen soldiers are still lying on the ground and that the Taliban hung some bodies in trees.

"Helmand is on the verge of collapse; 58 people were martyred during a single night; isn't it shameful? Isn't it a shame for the minister of defense, president, chief executive and minister of interior?" said Afghan senator Hashim Alokozai.

"An elderly man was killed alongside his family and soldiers and was then hung in a tree; is there anyone to consider this sacrifice, " MP Lalai Hamidzai said.

Helmand MPs have criticized the government and security institutions for not doing enough to improve the security situation in the volatile province.

There are reports that the commander of local police fought until he ran out of ammunition. He was then killed, along with his wife, seven children and some soldiers. But no aid reached them.

"We have undertaken comprehensive measures to retake control of several areas and fighting has started in some areas. We have taken necessary steps to recapture those areas which have collapsed," governor of Helmand Hayatollah Hayat said.

Helmand was once a key Taliban stronghold in the south and has been a major point of battle for insurgents. The Taliban recently overran large parts of Helmand, leaving government forces in district centers like Sangin and Marjah barely clinging on to a few official buildings.

Former NADRA official arrested in connection with Mullah Mansour ID: FIA
[DAWN] QUETTA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday placed in durance vile
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
former assistant director National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Ghulam Muhammad Bugti for suspected involvement in the issuance of identification papers to former Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Mansour.
Gee golly gosh shucks. You don't suppose Mullah Haibatullah has a secret identity in Pak, do you? Or Zawahiri?
Officials recovered a Pak identity card and passport under the alias Wali Muhammad from the site of the American drone strike which killed the Taliban chief earlier this month in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
. Mansour's ID card was renewed in 2012.

Ghulam Bugti, who retired in 2007, had played an important role in issuing an NIC to Mansour in 2002, FIA sources said.

Bugti has been shifted to FIA's regional office for interrogation. "The scope of investigation is being widened", an FIA officer who declined to be named told DawnNews.

Domicile issued in Killa Abdullah
Mullah Mansour was issued a domicile from the province’s Killa Abdullah district in 1999. He had portrayed himself as Muhammad Wali, a resident of Chaman belonging to the Kakar tribe.

FIA obtained the copy of the domicile and have launched an inquiry against the then Deputy Commissioner (DC) Killa Abdullah Hafiz Mohammad Tahir. The DC is like to be arrested, sources in FIA told DawnNews.

Following the incident, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar ordered a probe to find out how identification documents had been granted to the former Taliban chief.

NADRA has also launched an investigation into nearly 2.5 million families across the country in the aftermath of the drone strike.

Earlier this week, FIA arrested former assistant commissioner Qila Abdullah Rafiq Tareen for verifying Mullah Akhtar Mansour's passport, in addition to three NADRA officials in Qila Abdullah and Quetta for issuing Mansour's NIC.

Former deputy commissioner Qila Abdullah Hafiz Muhammad Tahir is also being interrogated by the FIA in relation to the case of Mansour's ID documents.

According to a statement by MoD, the first Arclight airstrike was carried out in Gian district of Paktia, leaving at least 8 turbans dead and 4 others maimed.

The statement further added that the second Arclight airstrike was carried out in Gomal district leaving at least 6 turbans dead and 2 others maimed.

According to MoD, at least 3 turbans were killed during a separate clearance operations by the Afghan cops in the vicinity of Ahmad Khel district.

The anti-government armed holy warrior groups including the Taliban bully boyz have not commented regarding the reports so far.

The Talibs and bully boyz belonging to the other holy warrior groups including the notorious Haqqani network bully boyz are active in a number of Paktia districts where they often carry out insurgency activities.

The Afghan cops have stepped air and ground raids against the holy warrior groups to suppress their activities amid rampant Taliban-led insurgency across the country.

Attempted North Korea missile launch fails: South Korea
[REUTERS] North Korea attempted to fire a missile from its east coast on Tuesday but the launch appears to have failed, South Korean officials said, in what would be the latest in a string of unsuccessful ballistic missile tests by the isolated country.

The launch attempt took place at around 5:20 a.m. Seoul time (4.20 p.m. ET), said the officials, who asked not to be identified. They did not elaborate.

Tension in Northeast Asia has been high since North Korea conducted its fourth nuclear test in January and followed that with a satellite launch and test launches of various missiles.

Japan put its military alert on Monday for a possible North Korean missile launch.

"North Korea shows no sign of abandoning the development of nuclear missiles and so we will continue to work closely with the U.S. and South Korea in response and maintain a close watch," Japanese Minister of Defence Gen Nakatani told a media briefing.

North Korea appeared to have attempted to launch an intermediate-range Musudan missile, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said.

North Korea attempted three test launches of the Musudan in April, all of which failed, U.S. and South Korean officials have said.

Russia Raids on Syria City Kill 23 Civilians
[An Nahar] Russian warplanes pounded an al-Qaeda-held city in northwestern Syria before dawn on Tuesday killing 23 civilians in the heaviest strikes in months, a monitoring group said.

Dozens of civilians were also maimed in the raids on Idlib, a thriving provincial capital held by al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra

Front and its allies since March last year, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Al-Nusra is not party to a Russian- and US-brokered ceasefire that went into force on February 27 between Moscow-backed government forces and Washington-backed non-jihadist rebels.

"The air strikes are the most intensive on Idlib since the beginning of the truce," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Even though Idlib is not covered by the truce, it had been relatively calm with only intermittent raids," he added.

The strikes hit near a hospital and a public garden.

#1  I don't believe Russians would be that stupid.

MR KIRBY (briefing 5.31): We’re still looking into what happened in Idlib. I don’t have – we don’t have a great sense of complete knowledge here about who was responsible. Obviously, the images coming out of Idlib are very troubling. Obviously, the killing of innocent civilians is a violation of the cessation of hostilities, period, and we’re going to continue to work closely inside the cessation of hostilities task force with the Russians to try to figure out what happened here, and then we’ll take it from there.

But I can assure you that we’re very focused on it. We’ve seen the images, same as you there, and we’re going to do what we can to get to the bottom of it.

Four Bangladeshis Plead Guilty in Singapore to Terrorist Financing
[AnNahar] Four Bangladeshi guest workers who pleaded guilty to raising finances for an alleged Islamist terrorist plot in their homeland were convicted by a Singapore court on Tuesday and could face up to 10 years in jail.

The men, aged 26 to 31, were brought to court in three armored vehicles and became the first to be prosecuted under a Singapore law specifically targeting terrorism financing.

They will be sentenced at a later date.

In court, the men were dressed in purple overalls with the word "detainee" emblazoned across their chests and backs, shackled at the hands and feet and closely watched by members of the elite Gurkha unit of the Singapore police.

Court documents said the men contributed, collected or possessed funds for the alleged plot ranging from Sg$60 ($44) to Sg$1,360.

For involvement in terrorist financing, the men face up to 10 years in jail, a maximum fine of Sg$500,000 ($362,000), or both.

Singapore, which depends heavily on Bangladeshis and other foreign workers in the construction sector, considers itself a potential target of murderous Moslems because of its strong military ties with the United States.

It was the second group of Bangladeshis rounded up in Singapore since 27 were jugged

State prosecutors say the second group's leader Rahman Mizanur, 31, had repeatedly tried to join the Islamic State

or Algeria. He then went to Singapore as a construction worker.

A fifth worker, Zzaman Daulat, 34, pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
, along with a sixth man, and both will now go to trial.

"I know I contributed $200 but I didn't know it'll be used for terrorism," Zzamat said through a court interpreter.

The five were among eight Bangladeshis held since April under Singapore's tough Internal Security Act.

Items seized from them included manuals on bomb-making and how to use a 0.50 calibre sniper rifle, along with a list of Bangladesh government and military officials allegedly targeted for attack, Singapore's home affairs ministry said.

The Singapore convictions come amid growing concern in Bangladesh over an increase in attacks on liberals and religious minorities in the Muslim-majority nation.

Tunisia Landmine Blast Kills 2 Women
[AnNahar] A landmine blast killed two women and maimed a third on Monday near Mount Sammama, Tunisia's defense ministry said, blaming "terrorist elements".

Ministry front man Belhassen Oueslati told AFP the two were killed while gathering herbs when the home-made device went kaboom! near the base of Mount Sammama in the Kasserine region, where a military operation is under way.

The third woman was seriously maimed and flown to hospital by military helicopter, he added.

The mine was probably laid by "terrorist elements," Oueslati added. Intense military operations against jihadists holed up in the mountains have been ongoing for several days.

Demining formed part of the military operation, Oueslati said.

On Sunday, media reported "bombardments" in the area, which is close to the border with Algeria.

A soldier was maimed earlier this month when a mine went kaboom! on Mount Sammama which is adjacent to Mount Chaambi.

The suspect was overheard saying at the scene of the attack, "Allah told me to do this, Allah told me to kill people," Toronto police chief Mark Saunders told news hounds the next day.

Bridge Collapse Survivor Linked to Islamic State in Syria
[WDAY] Mohammed Roble was weeks shy of his 11th birthday when the school bus he was riding plummeted about 30 feet as the bridge collapsed. He was injured, and a 2009 state court order says he was due to receive a lump sum of more than $65,000 on his 18th birthday. That was just weeks before federal prosecutors say he left the U.S.

Roble's name surfaced in federal court last week during the trial of three Minnesota men accused of conspiring to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group. The bridge collapse wasn't mentioned at trial, but The News Agency that Dare Not be Named made the connection using public records.

Based on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reporting, we found that Mohammed Roble listed in court documents from a 2009 personal injury lawsuit.

A Mohammed Robel was mentioned as being in Syria during testimony in the 15 days of the federal terror trial.

The FBI informant Abdirahaman Bashir testified on May 19 that Roble had a lot of money because of the accident and insurance settlement.

Then we went back through our notes to find this mention.

We found that an audio recording was played in court.

It was taken in April of 2015.

Two of the defendants allegedly mentioned how Roble was paying for everyone’s weddings and buying cars in Syria.

New Yemen Clashes Kill 38 Rebels, Loyalists
[An Nahar] Renewed festivities between pro-government forces and Iran-backed rebels killed at least 38 people in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
during the past 24 hours, loyalist military sources said on Tuesday.

The latest fighting comes despite an ongoing ceasefire and U.N.-brokered peace talks in Kuwait that began in April.

Battles raged in Bayhan, on the border between Shabwa province in the south and Marib in the east.

There was also fighting in Sarwah, an oil-rich area west of Marib, the sources said.

At least 23 rebels and 15 soldiers were killed in both areas, the same sources said.

Bayhan is the only part of Shabwa province still controlled by the Iran-backed rebels, who on Tuesday retook positions seized by loyalists during the past two days, the military sources said.

Fierce fighting in Bayhan on Sunday claimed the lives of 48 fighters, a senior military officer has said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie ducked another tomato...
media rights watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said that "sniper fire" from the Houthis killed Yemeni journalist Abdullah Azizan while he was covering the festivities in Bayhan on Sunday.

Azizan worked for the local marebpress.net news website.

6 Egyptian soldiers killed, 6 injured in North Sinai blasts
[AlAhram] Six soldiers were killed and 6 others were maimed when two improvised bombs (IEDs) targeted an army patrol in Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

According to hospital sources in North Sinai, the attack took place on Al-Arish ‐ Sheikh Zuweid Road.

The sources added that the blast also maimed 6 soldiers, who sustained injuries of bruises, fractures, and abrasions in the body.

No group has yet grabbed credit for the attack.

The attack comes only one day after the Egyptian army announced on Monday it has killed 16 turbans and disarmed 24 IEDs planted to target security patrols in Sinai.

Earlier in May, Egypt received an initial shipment of 762 mine resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles from the United States, which will be used in army operations in the peninsula.

The Egyptian army's latest announcements on the battle against turbans in central and North Sinai during military operations comes during the third phase of an operation entitled Martyr's Right, which was first launched in September 2015.

The Islamist insurgency in the Sinai peninsula spiked after the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi and has killed hundreds of security forces.

No school for Dutch Muslim group whose ex-chief wished a tsunami on Israel
[IsraelTimes] Citing Islamist radicalization, government withholds permission for the opening of a school in Amsterdam

Citing potential radicalization, the Dutch government prevented the opening of a Muslim school by a group whose former leader praised Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. bully boyz and wished for Allah to drown Israel in a tsunami.

Education Ministry Undersecretary Sander Dekker on Monday said that the government is withholding funding and permits for SIO -- a Dutch-language acronym for "Association of Islamic studies" -- because its board is working against giving pupils real knowledge. It was the first time that the government cited Islamist radicalization in withholding its permission for the opening of a Muslim school, the Het Parool daily reported.

"Affording education and understanding is, in our society, an important mission for schools. There is no room in this framework for a school board whose actions contradict this mission," Dekker said in a statement about the decision not to grant SIO, which already runs a school in The Hague, permission to open another school in Amsterdam.

According to Het Parool, Dekker’s statement and decision are connected to remarks made by Abdoe Khoulani, a former secretary of SIO, who in 2014 praised the Islamic State terrorist group, or ISIS, on Facebook, said it was no worse than Israel and also wished for the destruction of Israel in a divine flood.

In June of that year, Khoulani wrote on Facebook: "Long live ISIS! If Allah wills it, we will go to Baghdad to reckon with the scum there." He was reacting to the refusal of authorities to allow a pro-ISIS demonstration in The Hague. Khoulani later apologized and resigned as secretary of SIO following the backlash that his statement generated.

But a month later, Khoulani wrote on Facebook: "May the Zionist settlement be washed away by Allah’s tsunami today rather than tomorrow." He also wrote that he hopes David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, was "burning in hell."

Two months after the ISIS statement, SIO wrote the education ministry to say they do not share Khoulani’s view but the ministry had already initiated a probe for radicalization at SIO’s The Hague school, Het Parool reported. SIO refused to cooperate with the inspection, leading the ministry to say it cannot rule out radicalization by SIO. The government may revoke funding and permits for the Hague school, according to Het Parool.

SIO Chairman Soner Atasoy disputed this version of events. In a furious statement that is unusual for its harsh tone, he called Undersecretary Dekker "a pathological liar who can get lost," saying his school was ready to work with the ministry’s inspection team.

EU court adviser: Employers can ban Muslim headscarf

[IsraelTimes] A senior adviser to the European Court of Justice says a European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
business may legitimately prohibit an employee from wearing a Muslim headscarf on the job, provided the ban is based on a general company rule prohibiting visible political or religious symbols in the workplace, and not on prejudice against a particular religion.

Advocate General Juliane Kokott issued the opinion Tuesday after a Belgian court asked for clarification on what is prohibited by EU anti-discrimination laws.

In the Belgian case, Samira Achbita was fired as a receptionist by a security company after she insisted she should be allowed to work wearing an Islamic headscarf. She has lost her discrimination lawsuit in two Belgian courts and is now before the country’s Court of Cassation, which sought the EU court’s opinion.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Navy shoots Gaza fisherman who leaves ‘designated zone’
[IsraelTimes] Israel to reinstate shorter, 6-mile limit on distance Paleostinian boats can sail from the shore as fishing season ends

Israeli sailors shot a Paleostinian fisherman in the leg off the coast of the Gazoo Strip Tuesday, after his vessel and a second boat didn’t obey orders to halt, the military said.

The two boats had been sailing in the waters near central Gazoo, when they "deviated from a designated fishing zone" and "turned toward the south," the Israel Defense Forces said.
"Halloo Egypt! We're coming in for a pick up, as requested!"
"IDF troops called for the vessels to halt, firing warning shots into the air. Upon the suspects’ continued advance, forces fired toward one of the vessels," the army said.

One of the fisherman on board the ship was struck in the leg by a bullet, a military spokesperson said.

The Israeli sailors escorted the two fishing vessels to the nearby Ashdod port. The injured man was brought to an Israeli hospital for treatment, while the others were "taken in for questioning," the IDF spokesperson said.
"We are only simple, well-armed fishermen."
It was not immediately clear how far the fishing vessels were from the shore during the incident.

Israel maintains a naval blockade around the Gazoo Strip, which it says is aimed at keeping weapons and illegal building materials out of the hands of gunnies in the coastal enclave.

Until recently, fisherman in Gazoo were permitted to ply their trade up to six nautical miles from the shore, according to the Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).

Paleostinians, however, frequently complain the six-mile restriction is arbitrarily enforced and that vessels are regularly turned back well before they reach the legal limit.

In March, COGAT approved a temporary extension of the permitted distance in southern Gazoo, to nine miles, ahead of peak fishing season. COGAT estimated the decision could add NIS 400,000 ($106,000) a year to the Gazoo economy.
Which hopefully would shut up those screeching about those poor, starving Palestinians being picked on by mean Israel.
Around 4,000 fishermen work in Gazoo, more than half of whom live below the poverty line.
Is that before or after UN payments are distributed?
Earlier this week, Israel informed Gazoo residents that the previous six-mile restriction would be reinstated, a COGAT spokesperson said.

On May 16, the Shin Bet security service accused Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, of "taking advantage" of the three-mile extension, saying the terror organization had used fishermen to smuggle weapons and rocket-making materials into the Strip.
And out, to Ansar Bayt al Maqdis in the Sinai.
Hamas and other terror groups have created a large naval smuggling operation, bringing in weaponry and "materials used in the production of rockets, like fiberglass resin," the security service said.

Afghanistan
Adrift in their own land, Afghanistan's displaced see their population swell
[LATimes] A newly released Amnesty International report has found a “staggering” increase in the number of Afghans driven from their homes by the deepening unrest, political instability and economic stagnation in the country. The report, “My Children Will Die This Winter: Afghanistan’s Broken Promise to the Displaced,” concludes that the most neglected are not necessarily those who’ve made perilous trips seeking asylum in Europe, but those who’ve been uprooted and left to wander and seek shelter in their own country.

More than 1.2 million Afghans are now displaced – a twofold increase in three years. The report, made public late Monday, said that more than 118,000 have fled in the first four months of 2016 alone.

Though the 178,000 Afghans who have sought asylum in Europe over the last year and a half have received steady media attention, those who have sought refuge inside the country have gone largely unnoticed.

Nassim Majidi, director at Samuel Hall, a Kabul-based think tank, said the focus in Afghanistan should be on integrating the huge numbers of displaced people, rather than treating them as outsiders.
In other words, you want the Afghans to act like Americans. Hmm, that might be harder than you think...
“Those forced to flee their homes, by and large, lived in squalid conditions and were often housed in makeshift shelters with no protection from the hot summers and cold winters,” the report said of the nearly 1,000 people who are counted as newly displaced each day.
As opposed to most of the rest of the people who live in the countryside of Afghanistan, who are housed in ... squalid conditions with no protection from the hot summers and cold winters. Criminy, it's not as if the permanent residents of Afghanistan live in Mendocino. The displaced people may well live worse than they did before they were displaced. But you and I would be hard-pressed to notice the difference.
Those who live in makeshift camps that dot the nation’s urban centers have found themselves in a state of un-ending limbo.

Qand Agha, 32, has spent the last seven years in Kabul’s Chaman-e Babrak camp, which houses more than 700 other displaced families. The settlement -- defined by simple mud houses, open sewers and dirt roads -- stands in contrast to its glitzy neighbors.

Only a few hundred feet away lie symbols of Kabul’s wealth, brightly colored wedding halls -- complete with light-up replicas of the Eiffel Tower -- and a plastic surgery center offering $300 rhinoplasties.
Clearly the refugees would be better off if only they had rhinoplasties...
“We are the people who suffered through decades of bomb blasts and flying bullets, but now we are left here in this squalor with no hope for a future,” said Bismillah, another camp resident in his mid-40s.

The aid that once flowed to the city’s displaced populations has seemingly dried up in the last two years.

“Before [nonprofits] and businessmen would come with blankets, firewood and food assistance, but we haven’t seen anything in two years now,” said Qand Agha.
Ah-ha, the problem is identified! A lack of U.N. personnel! European apparatchiks! With white Toyota Land Cruisers! Seeking "domestic help"!
In the past, Qand Agha said, well-to-do Afghans would come by and hand out money or supplies. But not anymore.

“Now, even those people can’t find work to feed themselves, and those who have the money get on rickety boats to Europe.”

The lack of attention described by the Chaman-e Babrak residents comes despite the Afghan government’s endorsement of a new national policy in 2014, aimed at assisting the nation’s internally displaced people.
The Afghan government is full of ideas. It's the follow-through that's been a tad difficult...
Though that policy was envisioned as a comprehensive solution to the nation’s growing refugee problem, Amnesty said it has amounted to little more than a “broken promise” that has done little to address the needs of one of Afghanistan’s most vulnerable populations.
More broken promises from politicians? I'd best go lie down, I feel faint...
This lack of progress, said Amnesty, is the result of several intersecting issues that seemed to consume the nation in the last two years.

The plan was approved in the last days of the administration of former President Hamid Karzai. The 2014 presidential election that followed dragged on for more than 10 months and was plagued with accusations of widespread, government-assisted fraud.
Now you know where the aid money went...
The tensions within the national unity government grew worse when President Ashraf Ghani was forced to accept his election rival, Abdullah Abdullah, as his chief executive. And the economic downturn made matters worse.

For Qand Agha, the storm of negative developments left the nation’s displaced people to fend for themselves, often treated as second-class citizens.

“When our children go to school they are made fun of for being from the camps. Teachers and students mock them, saying: ‘You are dirty,’ ‘you don’t bathe,’ ‘you have no shoes.’”

Though his home in the eastern province of Laghman is only a two-hour drive
...in a white Toyota Land Cruiser...
from Kabul, Qand Agha said rising insecurity makes it impossible for his family, including four children, to return.

“Day or night, there is no relief from the violence. At night people hide in fear of airstrikes, during the day they are caught in the crossfire of the battles between the security forces and the Taliban.”

However, it’s not just the Taliban and foreign forces that pose a threat to the lives of Afghans.

In the eastern province of Nangarhar, thousands have been forced to flee their homes as a new group of fighters claiming to be allied with the Iraq and Syria-based Islamic State have made inroads. Displaced people in Nangarhar said even government officials who have gathered forces to take on these new fighters appear to have done little to help those living in tents and makeshift homes in Jalalabad -- the provincial capital -- and Kabul.

“People's expectations are for local integration. The political and development communities need to implement local integration options,” said Majidi.

The camps, Majidi said, have only further separated the displaced people from local populations.

The first portion glowed over how Gov. Hickenlooper got 60 oil and gas industry leaders together at some point to work on environmental issues. The second half twice showed large upper case letters saying "Colorado has the strictest laws (of this sort) in the country," while showing great stills and moving shots of snow covered Colorado mountains.

Iraq
The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition
[ARA News] ERBIL – Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) has executed three Iraqi civilians in the city of Tel Afar west of Mosul on charges of spying for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, local sources reported.

The three men were accused of communicating with the Peshmerga and leaking security information about ISIS positions in Tal Afar.

Mussa al-Liwezi, 31, Farah al-Jahishi, 23, and Haidar Yousef, 33, were executed in front of dozens of people in Tal Afar city, local activists and eyewitnesses told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

In the meantime, the pro-ISIS Jazira media centre released footages showing the three men dressed in orange while being shot dead by three masked ISIS jihadis.

“A Sharia official read a statement to the public saying the three victims were spies for the enemies of the Caliphate. More than 200 people have witnessed the execution,” media activist Abdullah al-Malla told ARA News.

ISIS Uses civilians for human shields

[Al Arabiya] ISIS forces are reported to be holding several hundred families as "human shields" in the Iraqi city of Fallujah while government forces close in, the United Nations refugee agency said on Tuesday, citing witness accounts.

Some 3,700 people have fled Fallujah, west of Baghdad, over the past week since the Iraqi army began its offensive on the city controlled by militant forces, it said.

"UNHCR has received reports of casualties among civilians in the city center of Fallujah due to heavy shelling, including 7 members of one family on the 28th of May (Saturday)," UNHCR spokesman William Spindler told a news briefing.

"There are also reports of several hundred families being used as human shields by ISIL in the center of Falluja."

The accounts come from displaced people who have spoken to UNHCR field staff, spokeswoman Ariane Rummery said.

"Most people able to get out come from the outskirts of Fallujah. For some time militants have been controlling movements, we know civilians have been prevented from fleeing. There are also reports from people who left in recent days that they are being required to move with ISIL within Fallujah," she told Reuters, using another word for the militant group.

ISIS militants fought back vigorously overnight and parried an onslaught by the Iraqi army on a southern district of Fallujah, officers said.

Iraqi authorities are holding some 500 men and boys under the age of 12 for "security screening" as they leave the city, a clearance process that can take up to seven days, Spindler said.

"But people are being released after this process and we understand that 27 men were released yesterday (Monday) after being screened," he said.

However, Al Arabiya News channel reported that the joint Special Operations Command in Iraq confirmed that the Federal Police and volunteers from tribes regained control from the ISIS-held area of Saqlawiyah northeast of Fallujah.

The Iraqi army stormed to the southern edge of Fallujah under US air support on Monday and captured a police station inside the city limits, which led to launch the assault to retake the ISIS stronghold.

With the continued fighting, security forces managed to evacuate 50 families in areas near the center of Fallujah. According to reports from the rescued families, a number of ISIS snipers on rooftops had prevented them from escaping.

A Reuters TV crew about 1.5 km from the city's edge said explosions and gunfire were ripping through Naimiya, a largely rural district of Fallujah on its southern outskirts.

An elite military unit, the Rapid Response Team, seized the district's police station at midday, state TV reported.

The unit advanced another mile northward, stopping about 500 meters (yards) from the al-Shuhada district, the southeastern part of city's main built-up area, army officers said.

Jerusalem city hall orders halt to illegal Waqf construction on Temple Mount
[IsraelTimes] Injunction issued after authorities determine project for extra restrooms at complex does not have proper permits

The Jerusalem Municipality on Tuesday ordered a halt to illegal construction taking place outside of the fence surrounding Jerusalem’s flashpoint Temple Mount holy site.

The administrative order was issued after authorities determined the construction of additional restrooms at the complex has begun without the proper permits, a municipality statement said.

According to reports, the project was initiated by the Muslim Waqf -- the Jordanian trust that administers the site -- to accommodate the tens of thousands of Muslim worshipers expected to visit the compound during the upcoming Ramadan holiday.

Army Radio said the municipality has pledged to install portable toilets in the Temple Mount area for the month-long holiday. The bathrooms will be erected in coordination with Jordanian authorities, according to the report.

Last week, a Channel 10 report said the Israel Antiquities Authority had filed a lawsuit against the Waqf for building the bathrooms in an archaeological site within the Temple Mount complex.

The Antonia Fortress, which is believed to date from at least 31 BCE, sits atop the Western Wall tunnels sparking fears that sewage from the restroom will seep into the structures below, the report said.

The suit also includes IAA opposition to a Waqf plan to break through one of the walls on the Temple Mount itself.

Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, the site of the first and second Jewish temples and home to Islam’s third-holiest shrine, has been at the heart of the months-long unrest and violence.

Clashes between Israeli security forces and Paleostinian rioters erupted last year at the compound amid fears that Israel was planning to change rules governing the site which allows Jews to visit the site but not pray there.

Israel has repeatedly denied such plans are in the works.

DOJ fights federal judge's order for lawyers to attend ethics training
[FOXNEWS] The Justice Department moved Tuesday to fight a federal judge’s order that its lawyers undergo mandatory ethics training, digging in after the DOJ was accused of misleading the courts over President B.O.'s immigration executive actions.

In filings Tuesday, the department said the order would "far exceed the bounds of appropriate remedies" and would cost the department millions.
How much would it cost to hold each of the lawyers in this kerfuffle in contempt? How much would it cost to have them disbarred?
U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen, of Texas, had issued the order earlier this month, after alleging DOJ attorneys misled him about the implementation of Obama’s executive orders on illegal immigrants colonists.

Attorneys had told Hanen that a key component ‐ an expansion of a 2012 program to protect illegal immigrants colonists from deportation if they were brought to the U.S. as children ‐ hadn’t been implemented. But officials later revealed they had given more than 108,000 people three-year reprieves from deportation under the expanded rules, as well as work permits.

Hanen blocked Obama's actions and the case is now before the Supreme Court.

Hanen’s scathing order filed on May 19 accused the DOJ of a "calculated plan of unethical conduct." He ordered that all DOJ lawyers attend a yearly ethics course. He also ordered the department to turn over the names of those who received the reprieves.

"Such conduct is certainly not worthy of any department whose name includes the word 'Justice,'" Hanen said.

The Department of Justice responded in the court filing Tuesday, saying that it "emphatically" disagrees with the judge’s ruling, claiming that none of its lawyers intended to deceive. The filing requests Hanen’s order be put on hold so federal lawyers can review.

#2  it may be that Judge Hanen's order was a bit too much and too little.

he ordered all DOJ attorneys in 26 states to take the training

really the attorneys at DOJ HQ were the actual liars here and ethics training is, IMO, too small a punishment for them -- they (the attorneys in DOJ HQ and their bosses) instead should be forbidden to represent the govt in any federal court --forever

#6  Concur with Lord Garth. The scope too large and the punishment clearly too little. Perhaps the Judge intentionally painted with too broad a brush in order to bring attention to the matter...with intent to later withdraw his order and bring contempt charges on the individual liars.

The semantics bother me in this case as well - "misled" means LIE. If you are an attorney and play the game and LIE in court...well, the sanctions have to be severe. Contempt charges, jail and permanent bar to practicing law. All attorney and SES' that signed off on this game playing should receive same.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russia demands that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
withdraw its troops from Iraq, the RIA news agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying on Tuesday.

"This (keeping troops in Iraq) is an absolutely unacceptable position," it cited Lavrov as saying. "In principle, I believe that what the Turks are doing deserves far greater public attention on the part of our Western partners."

A source from the Turkish military said on Tuesday that warplanes recently targeted a camp for Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels in northern Iraq, killing 14 of them.

The Turkish military has been carrying out regular air strikes against positions of the outlawed group in the mountainous regions of northern Iraq, where it has camps near the Turkish border, after the collapse of ceasefire last year.

Kurds call on UN to deliver relief supplies to Aleppo
And they'll get on it just as soon as they finish their creme brulee
[ARA News] ALEPPO – Kurdish organisations called on the United Nations agencies to deliver humanitarian aid to the Sheikh Maqsoud district in Aleppo, which has been for months under siege by Syrian Islamist rebels.

At least 150 civilians were killed and 1100 others were wounded in the Kurdish district of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo under bombardment by Islamist rebels, led by the Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front and the Islamic Movement of Aurar al-Sham.

“We are in urgent need for humanitarian aid, people are facing the danger of starvation. We suffer sharp shortage of basic supplies like food and medicines,” rights activist Ali al-Ahmed told ARA News in Aleppo.

“The United Nations must take action and save those civilians who have suffered the most under the barbaric military campaign by radical Islamists,” he said.

Al-Qaeda branch in Syria of Nusra Front, Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham and other Islamist factions have been constantly shelling the Kurdish district since February.

Sheikh Maqsoud has been besieged for months, while the Kurdish YPG forces have been trying to push Islamists back.

A spokesman for the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG)–that are in control of Sheikh Maqsoud–told ARA News that the bombardment on Sheikh Maqsoud has caused mass destruction of infrastructure, residential buildings and other facilities in the district.

Amnesty International has recently issued a report in regard with the developments in the Kurdish-populated district, saying: “Armed groups surrounding the Sheikh Maqsoud district of Aleppo city have repeatedly carried out indiscriminate attacks that have struck civilian homes, streets, markets and mosques, killing and injuring civilians and displaying a shameful disregard for human life.”

According to local sources, there are 35,000-40,000 civilians are still living in Sheikh Maqsoud, where people suffer from the absence of many services as a result of the blockade imposed by Islamist rebel groups on their district.

Speaking to ARA News, Luqman Ismail, one of the stranded citizens in Sheikh Maqsoud, said that electricity outage continues for nearly three years because of the barbaric bombardment led by Islamist rebels on the main network of power outside the district.

“These groups are apparently punishing the people of Sheikh Maqsoud for their support to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), who are engaged in fighting with Islamist rebels around the city of Aleppo,” he said.

Egypt to open border with Gaza ahead of Ramadan
[IsraelTimes] Egypt will reportedly open its borders with the Gazoo Strip for four days starting Wednesday, allowing Paleostinians to enter and leave the isolated coastal strip ahead of the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.
Prediction: Ansar Bayt al Maqdis will stage a major attack no later than a week from Thursday. No doubt it would have been even bigger had the Israeli navy not stopped the latest fishing boat smuggling attempt.
The Rafah Border Crossing between the Sinai Peninsula and the Gazoo Strip will be open in both directions, the Paleostinian Ma’an News site reported Tuesday, citing the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run interior ministry in Gazoo.

The opening of the crossing is seen as a humanitarian gesture by Egypt ahead of the Muslim’s holy fasting month of Ramadan. According to the report, the opening is aimed at serving humanitarian and emergencies cases.

The move would be the second opening in as many months after Egypt shuttered the border for 85 days.

Both Israel and Egypt maintain a partial blockade on Gazoo. Israel says it restricts entry of certain materials into the territory to keep Hamas and other terror groups from being able to build weapons and cross-border tunnels.

Egypt has kept its border with Gazoo mostly sealed since Hamas seized control of the Strip in 2007. The closure worsened after Egypt’s military ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, a Moslem Brüderbund member, in 2013. Hamas is an offshoot of the Brotherhood.

Egypt claims that Hamas in Gazoo is helping Sinai jihadists, both by treating casualties from the battles in Sinai against the Egyptian army and in arms. Hamas is also affiliated with the Moslem Brüderbund, an Islamist movement that has been outlawed in Egypt.

Along the Israel-Gazoo border, tensions have flared in recent weeks as troops working to uncover attack tunnels reaching into Israeli territory have come under mortar fire, drawing Israeli reprisal attacks.

...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Ihab Nafeaa submitted his resignation on Tuesday in protest to the outcome of the municipal elections in the northern city, the state-run National News Agency reported on Tuesday.

"Agreements and alliances were formed in the municipal elections in Tripoli which did not live up to the expectations of many in the city," said Nafeaa in a statement announcing his resignation.

"A leader can foresee from his position better than a normal person would, and he might be mistaken in his effort and has therefore to bear the responsibility of his decisions," he added.

He pointed to the outcome of the municipal elections in Tripoli, and said: "The results of the polls have shown that our choice was not a proper one. Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya did not live up to the expectations of the people of Tripoli. I therefore shoulder the responsibility in front of my family and supporters of the Jamaa and I submitted my resignation."

Nafeaa's resignation came a day after Tripoli MP Robert Fadel submitted his resignation from parliament, protesting the surprising results of Sunday's elections in the northern city in which no Christian candidates managed to win seats on the municipal council.

A list backed by resigned Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi achieved a stunning victory Sunday against a list backed by Hariri, ex-PM Najib Miqati, former ministers Faisal Karami and Mohammed al-Safadi, Jamaa Islamiya, al-Ahbash and the Arab Democratic Party.

Hardening US stance
[DAWN] ’INTERESTING’ times are upon Pak-US ties again. A US drone strike killed Mullah Mansour in Balochistan

; the proposed US F-16 sale to Pakistain formally expired. The B.O. regime failed to convince politicians on Capitol Hill to allow use of US public funds to complete the transaction and Pakistain refused to pay for them in toto; and the US Congress is moving to put further Haqqani network-related conditionalities on assistance to Pakistain.

Obvious commonality here: the US stance on Pakistain is hardening again. What’s up?

Girl tortured, set on fire for refusing marriage proposal
[DAWN] MURREE: A 19-year-old school teacher was tortured and set on fire after refusing a marriage proposal on Tuesday, reported DawnNews.

The victim's uncle, Nasir Abbassi, stated the family had gone to a social gathering and the victim was alone at home when the incident occurred.

"A group of five men forcibly entered the house, locked her in a room and beat her up," claimed Abbassi.

The suspects, after beating the victim, set her on fire and threw her in a ditch behind the victim's residence, added Abbassi.

The family, after being informed by a local boy, rushed home and took the girl out of the ditch and took her to the local hospital for treatment.

Treatment was denied at the local hospital, citing lack capability to deal with burn victims. The girl was then transferred to PIMS in Islamabad.

The family of the girl approached Murree police to register a case, but the case was not registered and no action taken, claimed the girl's uncle.

The girl has suffered burns over 85 per cent of her body, doctors told DawnNews. They added they are trying their best to save the girl's life, but her condition is serious.

Bangladesh
Six convicts sentenced to death in Bangladesh for bank heist
[DAWN] Six men were sentenced to death in Bangladesh on Tuesday for killing eight people during a bank robbery in Dhaka last year that police blamed on religious activists, the public prosecutor said.

Although no group grabbed credit for the robbery, police blame two outlawed groups, Ansarullah Bangla Team and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, which have been active in a recent surge of armed violence in Bangladesh.

Since early last year, almost 30 people have been killed in Lion of Islam attacks, some of which were claimed by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. and al Qaeda. The government denies either network has a presence in Bangladesh, blaming home-grown groups instead.

Public Prosecutor Khandaker Abdul Mannan said the defendants had confessed to being members of Ansarullah Bangla Team and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen during the trial.

"They committed a heinous crime. They killed innocent people," Mannan told news hounds outside the court after the sentencing.
