Russia Putting Up Short Range Radar That Can Detect The F-35 And Other Stealth Planes 310 Miles Away
In other totally unrelated news: Lockheed Martin CEO Says Price of F-35 jets down 57 percent.

Russia's powerful over-the-horizon Podsolnukh (Sunflower) radar is capable of detecting and tracking the F-35 stealth plane or any other fighter jet that was designed to avoid detection.

The Podsolnukh short-range over-the-horizon surface-wave radar is developed by Moscow-based OJSC NPK NIIDAR. The Russian Defense Ministry plans to deploy several of these systems in the Arctic, as well as on Russia's southern and western borders.

The radar is capable of detecting sea surface and air objects at a maximum distance of 500 kilometers (over 310 miles) at different altitudes in line of sight and over the horizon. The Podsolnukh "can simultaneously detect, track and classify up top 300 sea and 100 aerial targets in an automatic mode," the Global Security website detailed.

The Podsolnukh has more to offer. The system could be put online in ten days and needs a team of just three people to stay operational, the media outlet explained. It does not need much power, it is easy to operate and it does not have much equipment. The radar stations have to be placed 370 kilometers apart to receive complete coverage.

Sea- and shore-based OTHR systems are becoming increasingly popular in coastal nations, who want to protect their exclusive economic zones from piracy, smuggling and illegal fishing. They also have military application. The radars could are capable of issuing alerts in case of an invasion or subversive activity.

Three Podsolnukh stations are operational in Russia at the moment. They are located in the Sea of Okhotsk, the Sea of Japan and the Caspian Sea.

The Pentagon is confident in the F-35's ability to perform in combat. "Don't believe the hype," Joe DellaVedova, a spokesperson for the Joint Strike Fighter program office
By making this statement, it suggests that if it is true that this radar can see us coming, that it would indeed be a bad thing. Assuming we actually wanted to attack Russia.
The quality of the radar detection depends upon signal processing and pulse compression.

Traditional limitation of VHF and UHF-band radars is that their pulse width is long and they have a low pulse repetition frequency [PRF]--which means such systems are poor at accurately determining range. As Mike Pietrucha, a former Air Force an electronic warfare officer who flew on the McDonnell Douglas F-4G Wild Weasel and Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle once described to me, a pulse width of twenty microseconds yields a pulse that is roughly 19,600ft long--range resolution is half the length of that pulse. That means that range can't be determined accurately within 10,000 feet. Furthermore, two targets near one another can't be distinguished as separate contacts.

Signal processing partially solved the range resolution problem as early as in the 1970s. The key is a process called frequency modulation on pulse, which is used to compress a radar pulse. The advantage of using pulse compression is that with a twenty-microsecond pulse, the range resolution is reduced to about 180 feet or so.

#2  ...Well, keep in mind that the Serbs shot it down because the United States By-God Air Force kept sending the planes in on the same route at the same time every night, and they had help from people watching the airbase. Can overcome a lot of stealth that way.

#3  Old news with these types of radar. They use very long wavelengths and while they can detect things other radars can't, they aren't very precise and by the time you figure out it is a stealth aircraft it has bombed its target and is well on its way home.

Now if someone can figure out how to have a computer use the longer wavelength radar to quickly identify a stealth fighter and feed information to the other radar so it can precisely track it and shoot it down... then we would be onto something.

Posted by: DarthVader || 07/11/2016 19:29 Comments || Top||

#4  Assuming (a BIG IF) it can even detect a return signal from the F35, OTHR does not give accurate range information due to unpredictable wave travel paths in the ionosphere. Wavelengths are much too long for targeting and only useful to vector non-stealth aircraft quicker to their deaths.

In addition, as YUGE fixed targets, they would be the recipients of cruise or ballistic missiles within the first hour of a war.

Britain
Study: Some Muslim Parents Would Keep Quiet About Jihadi Children
Some Muslim parents would not speak out if their children went to Syria to fight with terrorists, according to a new study conducted in Birmingham.

Muslim parents told academics they feared police would arrest family members who traveled to Syria. The academics who conducted the study said the results indicated historical levels of mistrust between the police and Muslim communities.

Focus groups were conducted by Dr. Imran Awan and Dr. Surinder Guru with Muslim parents, to explore how they view West Midlands Police counter-terrorism strategies.

Dr. Awan, Associate Professor of Criminology at Birmingham City University, said: "Muslim community members are increasingly finding the partnership with the police service problematic.

"The parents we spoke to were worried about the lack of support for Muslim families and they feared that anyone who had gone to Syria would be arrested and have their citizenship removed if they spoke out."

Muslim mothers and fathers from different areas of Birmingham were split into different focus groups. All of the participants had children between the ages of 14 and 23, the Birmingham Mail reported.

Comments from parents taking part in the focus groups included: "I don't trust the police so I would not tell them."

Other parents feared informing the authorities: "If I told the police they would then arrest me and my children." Another comment said: "I would not report them to the police, because that's not what bad parents do."

Dr. Guru, Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Birmingham, lamented the distrust between West Midlands Police and Muslim families he found in his report.

"The central contradiction appears to be that parents are implicitly held to be responsible for the actions of their children by the police, yet the parents are adamant that the responsibility is not theirs and that they are relatively powerless," Dr. Guru said.

"In circumstances where the community lacks trust and confidence in the police, community policing is likely to be ineffective because it is viewed with suspicion."

Chief Officer lead for the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU), Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale, welcomed the report and sought to reassure Muslim communities.

"Local independent research is always useful and assists us in gaining an insight into how communities feel and how programmes of work are being received.

"WMCTU have carried out extensive engagement with women and young people over the last 12 months under the banner of the National Prevent Tragedies campaign.

"This engagement has focused on building personal resilience to those seeking to radicalise family members and to deter travel to Syria. We have received positive feedback from attendees at the events, but acknowledge there is always more that can be done to build trust.

"We have received several referrals over the past year, directly from concerned family members. In some cases the referral is too late and a loved one has already travelled, only then to lose their life in combat.

"Where we can intervene early we have been able to support both the family and their relatives through multi-agency programmes such as Channel, in very few cases these have led to criminal investigations," Assistant Chief Constable Beale said.

Obama plans major nuclear policy changes in his final months
The Obama administration is determined to use its final six months in office to take a series of executive actions to advance the nuclear agenda the president has advocated since his college days. It’s part of Obama’s late push to polish a foreign policy legacy that is plagued by challenges on several other fronts.
Great. A nuclear policy conceived by a bunch of pot-addled college kids and not further developed since then. What could possibly go wrong?
President Obama announced his drive to reduce the role of nuclear weapons and eventually rid the world of them in his first major foreign policy speech, in Prague in 2009. In his first years, he achieved some successes, such as the New START treaty with Russia, the Nuclear Security Summits and the controversial Iran deal. But progress waned in the past year as more pressing crises commanded the White House's attention. Now, the president is considering using the freedom afforded a departing administration to cross off several remaining items on his nuclear wish list.

In recent weeks, the national security Cabinet members known as the Principals Committee held two meetings to review options for executive actions on nuclear policy. Many of the options on the table are controversial, but by design none of them require formal congressional approval. No final decisions have been made, but Obama is expected to weigh in personally soon.

"As we enter the homestretch of the Obama presidency, it's worth remembering that he came into office with a personal commitment to pursuing diplomacy and arms control," deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes told the Arms Control Association on June 6. "I can promise you today that President Obama is continuing to review a number of ways he can advance the Prague agenda over the course of the next seven months. Put simply, our work is not finished on these issues."

Several U.S. officials briefed on the options told me they include declaring a "no first use" policy for the United States' nuclear arsenal, which would be a landmark change in the country's nuclear posture. Another option under consideration is seeking a U.N. Security Council resolution affirming a ban on the testing of nuclear weapons. This would be a way to enshrine the United States' pledge not to test without having to seek unlikely Senate ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

The administration is also considering offering Russia a five-year extension of the New START treaty's limits on deployed nuclear weapons, even though those limits don't expire until 2021. This way, Obama could ensure that the next administration doesn't let the treaty lapse. Some administration officials want to cancel or delay development of a new nuclear cruise missile, called the Long-Range Stand-Off weapon, because it is designed for a limited nuclear strike, a capability Obama doesn't believe the United States needs. Some officials want to take most deployed nukes off of "hair trigger" alert.

The administration also wants to cut back long-term plans for modernizing the nation's nuclear arsenal, which the Congressional Budget Office reports will cost about $350 billion over the next decade. Obama may establish a blue-ribbon panel of experts to examine the long-term budget for these efforts and find ways to scale it back.

Republican congressional leaders are already warning the administration not to use its final months to take actions they say would betray promises to Congress and weaken the United States' nuclear deterrent. On June 17, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) wrote to Obama to warn him not to unravel their deal on nuclear modernization, which they said persuaded Congress to ratify New START. They acknowledged that the current plan may be fiscally unsustainable but pledged to work with the administration to address the shortfalls.

Opponents in Congress also believe the administration is not taking into consideration how big changes in U.S. nuclear policy would affect allies that live under the U.S. nuclear umbrella, especially in Europe and Northeast Asia. But arms control advocates, Democratic lawmakers and former officials are pressing the administration to announce as many new policies as possible. For them, Obama has one last chance to make good on his nuclear promises.

"It's pretty clear the Prague agenda has stalled," said Joe Cirincione, president of the Ploughshares Fund, which supports groups advocating for nuclear nonproliferation. "There isn't anything that the president does that isn't criticized by his opponents, so he might as well do what he wants. He's relishing his last days in office."

By focusing on nuclear weapons, Obama sees an opportunity to cement a foreign policy legacy despite setbacks and incomplete efforts in several other areas. But by doing it unilaterally, without congressional buy-in, and in a hurried way, he risks launching policies that might not last much longer than his presidency.

#1  He is an idiot, I get that. However, our nuclear arsenal is outdated and ineffective. No longer do we need ICBMs at the rate and type we have. We still need tactical nukes and nuke mines, but the big ton weapon that ignites at 20,000 feet is too outdated and unnecessary. Smaller weapons that detonate in the upper ends stratosphere, EMP weapons not thermonuclear, are what we need. We can effectively render a population indefensible with a very few of these weapons. For example one 10 megaton weapon would render the entire Western Europe defenseless and literally send them into the stone ages without killing very many people.

Facebook Sued for $1 Billion for Alleged Use of Medium for Terror
Lawyers filed a $1 billion lawsuit against Facebook Inc., alleging it allowed the Palestinian militant Hamas group to use the platform to plot attacks that killed four Americans and wounded one in Israel, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

"Facebook has knowingly provided material support and resources to Hamas in the form of Facebook's online social network platform and communication services," making it liable for the violence against the five Americans, according to the lawsuit sent to Bloomberg by the office of the Israeli lawyer on the case, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner.

"Simply put, Hamas uses Facebook as a tool for engaging in terrorism," it said.
Not just Hamas.
Hamas is considered a terrorist organization by the U.S., European Union and Israel. The suit said the group used Facebook to share operational and tactical information with members and followers, posting notices of upcoming demonstrations, road closures, Israeli military actions and instructions to operatives to carry out the attacks.

Mushir al-Masri, a senior Hamas leader, said by phone that "suing Facebook clearly shows the American policy of fighting freedom of the press and expression" and is evidence of U.S. prejudice against the group and "its just cause."
That might be true if FB didn't suppress the opposing side of things.
Facebook in March took down a page promoting a new Palestinian uprising against Israel because it made "direct calls for violence," in violation of company polices. It declined to comment on the legal proceedings.
Whereas indicating where terrorists should strike should they happen to have free time in their busy schedules between the kids' soccer matches and tunneling competitions is an entirely different matter.
Gabriel Weimann, an expert on terrorism on the internet at Haifa University, said technology would be more effective than litigation in discouraging the use of social media for violent purposes. The focus should be on developing faster ways to detect problematic messages so they can be blocked immediately before they go viral, he said.

"Facebook isn't the only platform," he said. "There are plenty of others. What will you do? Sue them all?"
That could be arranged.
The suit was submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on July 10. Plaintiffs include the families of Yaakov Naftali Fraenkel, a 16-year-old abducted and murdered in June 2014 after hitching a ride in the West Bank, and 3-year-old Chaya Braun, whose stroller was struck intentionally by a Palestinian driver in October 2014 at a train station in Jerusalem.

In February 2015, a jury at the same court concluded that the Palestinian Authority and Palestine Liberation Organization aided in six attacks on Americans in Israel more than a decade ago, and ordered them to pay $218.5 million to the victims and their families. The damages were tripled under a U.S. anti-terrorism law.

The Palestinian bodies claimed they weren't responsible for the unapproved acts of low-level employees who participated in the attacks.

Intense video shows the moment a Russian helicopter is downed by ISIS in Syria
[Aviationist] On Jul. 9, a Russian Mi-35M helicopter was shot down by Daesh east of Palmyra the Russian MoD reported.

The gunship was flying a mission in support of the loyalist forces along with an Mi-24P Hind when it was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed into the ground killing the two crew members.

According to the latest reports, Daesh and rebels have grown their anti-aircraft capabilities by means of SAM (Surface to Air Missile) systems and MANPADS.

The Syrian regime has lost several aircraft due to anti-aircraft weaponry since the beginning of the uprising.

#1  I've looked at this vid over a dozen times. I'm calling ground fire, possibly RPG, but not MANPAD. While Soviet era MANPADS can engage at minimum altitudes of 30-50 meters, no vapor trail was visible. The downed aircraft was engaging ground targets with rockets at low altitude (possibly less that 1200 feet) when hit with whatever brought it down.

#2  The tail rotor lit up around 13s into the video. Could it have been a 50-cal technical or something? It seems an RPG could make that kind of flash. Could a 50-calibre?
Posted by: gorb || 07/11/2016 13:01 Comments || Top||

#3  I would immediately guess rapid disassembly of missile #3 with fuel charge exiting rear of launch tube quickly followed by impact ignition from striking the tail boom. Note missile ignition flares for #1-2 occur at front as missile exits pod, #3 appears at rear.

Somebody failed to pull the 'Remove before Flight' flagged pin.

Need input from Pan for certain.
Posted by: Skidmark || 07/11/2016 13:23 Comments || Top||

#4  B, I agree with you. If it was a manpad there would be a trail of smoke and parts going up after impact, I could find no evidence of that. An RPG would not have a smoke trail but a shot like that would be a one off shot at that aircrafts speed. My best guess is it took AAA fire and the gunner just barely hit the rear of the aircraft severing the tail.
Posted by: 49 Pan || 07/11/2016 13:28 Comments || Top||

#5  That's not rocket fire, no smoke from the front. I'm pretty sure all the flashes was AAA hammering him.

Very interesting theory. One would have to be quite brave to engage a Mi35 on a gun run. The prudent thing to do would be to wait until he's finished and makes his turn. Add to that the second aircraft kept right on rolling toward the action.

You may have something there Skid.
Posted by: Besoeker || 07/11/2016 14:12 Comments || Top||

#7  Looks like some wide open ground, poor concealment choice. Didn't see any tracers, not that there has to be but would be nice at a distance shot vs. moving helicopter.

My money is on Skid's square.
Posted by: swksvolFF || 07/11/2016 14:38 Comments || Top||

#8  I like skids analysis, unlike #1-2 the majority of flare #3 appears at the rear of the launch tube, then a very small flare immediately following at the front of the launch tube, then the catastrophic tail explosion. Who knows if it's coincidence or connected but the timings right for either.

#9  I have a question for those who know helicopters - other than coming down too fast with fuel and ammo, did the pilot make a good recovery?

Looked like he got it right side up and rotating.

#10  Why would ISIS be recording it if they weren't planning on attacking it?
Posted by: gorb || 07/11/2016 18:17 Comments || Top||

#11  I went back through gun footage on the MI24 and 36, not exactly sure which aircraft this is. If it was a hang fire, the rocket burn would have been 6 seconds or so making the rocket hang fire not it. It looks like 20mm hitting the aircraft to me and when I look at other footage of MI aircraft being shot down it kinda fits. These two aircraft were reportedly returning form a mission. Russians are notorious for same way in and out of a target, meaning they are bait on their way out. My dumbass 2 cents worth. Oh, and the recovery sucked, not too much he could do but try to keep it level on impact, he seemed to do that ok....

Wow, Karma! Pride of Lions Kills 5 Poachers in Sneak Attack
Despite what sensationalized wildlife specials on TV would have you believe, survival in the wild is not that much different than the way it is in civilized society. While there isn't an exact definition per se, most people in the U.S. would probably agree that "surviving successfully" is usually at least having enough food and water to live, protecting yourself adequately from nature and her destructive ways, and whenever possible, protecting your family and loved ones. Animals survive in the same way. They hunt for food when they need to eat, they build shelters to survive harsh winters and sweltering summers, and they will do anything to protect those they care about.

Once you truly accept this reality, the ideology of poaching and trophy hunting seems so ridiculous. Essentially, poachers believe that for some reason they are above animals and will always be able to outsmart them and their survival instincts. Well, as a group of poachers in Zimbabwe recently found out, this is not always the case.

Even though hunting is outlawed within the national parks of Zimbabwe, ten men were illegally hunting for elephants last month within the park's boundaries when they stumbled upon twenty adult Southwest African lions. The pride of lions were not exactly, you know, expecting human visitors, so they immediately attacked the intruders. The attack was so instantaneous that five of the ten men were killed, three severely injured, and two lightly injured. The animals were mostly unhurt. The men who survived the attack ran to a nearby village for medical help where they were promptly arrested. Ah, karma!
Lions 10, humans 0."
"The men were visibly traumatized by the attack," said Commissioner-General Chihuri,"and after seeing their injuries and the remains of their dead comrades, I can see why. These guys were tough criminals carrying ak-47s, but they were literally shred to pieces and devoured by the lions. I have never seen an animal attack reach this level of violence, and I have seen a lot!"

Chihuri's statement highlights the idiocy of poaching. Equipped with guns and plenty of ego, these men, and all others who poach, trek into nature with a feeling of invincibility unparalleled in nature. While, yes, humans have succeeded countless times at killing animals, there is no guarantee that they will succeed every time. Wild animals may not have had the same technological advancements as humans but they do have one thing that can never be taken from them -- an instinct to survive.

This pride of lions attacked the way they would attack anyone -- zebra, giraffe, rhino, human -- it's all the same to them. At the end of the day, it is simply someone trying to harm their family. The African lion is endangered due to rampant poaching and trophy hunting and may very well go extinct within our lifetime if something is not done. While this incident is tragic in that lives were lost, the fact is that had this gone "according to plan" lives would have still been lost, simply the other way around. What's really tragic is that this whole ordeal could have been avoided if these men had respected the Parks and Wildlife Act and kept out of park. Instead, they will wait to appear in court where they face sentences of up to 25 years in jail and fines of up to $100,000. We hope that the deaths of these men are not in vain and that they at least serve as a spark that encourages poachers to ask themselves: is this all really worth it?
It's not. But that never stopped them before.

[ABC] Police made dozens of arrests in Louisiana's capital city during weekend protests around the country in which people angry over police killings of young black men sought to block some major interstates.

Riot police in full gear stopped a group of protesters in Baton Rouge late Sunday in their attempt to walk onto Interstate 110 in Baton Rouge, thwarting a protest tactic that social justice activists have increasingly tried in several U.S. cities.

Tensions between black citizens and police have risen since last week's killings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, and Philando Castile in Minnesota by white officers, and a retaliatory attack on white police by a black sniper in Dallas that killed five officers and wounded others.

More than a thousand people left a Black Lives Matter rally in Memphis, Tennessee, and walked up a bridge over the Mississippi River on Sunday night, temporarily blocking all traffic on Interstate 40.

At a West Coast protest, hundreds of people poured into the streets of in Southern California late Sunday night, blocking traffic for several minutes on the 405 Freeway. Authorities told the Los Angeles Times there were no arrests and no reports of violence.

Elsewhere, hundreds blocked a segment of Interstate 94 in Minneapolis-St. Paul on Saturday. And hundreds also blocked motorists recently on part of Interstate 264 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Demonstrators have also tried but failed in recent days to block highways in Atlanta and Columbia, South Carolina.

Some government and law enforcement officials have been outspoken in seeking to discourage protesters from blocking traffic.

"While I appreciate the peaceful intent of this weekend's rallies, I'd ask that we not put our fellow citizens or law enforcement at risk -- which is exactly what attempting to block highways does," South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said in a statement.

In Louisiana, some 2,000 people rallied peacefully Sunday outside the Capitol building, State Police Maj. Doug Cain said, calling that initial protest "very organized and peaceful."

Then, by Sunday night, a few hundred people aimed for an on-ramp of Interstate 110 in Baton Rouge.

Ginsburg Jokes She Could Move To New Zealand If Trump Is Elected President
[Huffpoo] If Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wins the election, he might have to fill more than just Antonin Scalia's seat on the Supreme Court.

In an interview with The New York Times, Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg shared her concerns about a Trump presidency:

"I can't imagine what this place would be ― I can't imagine what the country would be ― with Donald Trump as our president. For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be ― I don't even want to contemplate that."

Then, she added that her late husband would have joked, "Now it's time for us to move to New Zealand."

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea to treat U.S. detainees under 'wartime law'
North Korea said on Monday it has told the United States it will sever the only channel of communication between them, at the United Nations in New York, after Washington blacklisted leader Kim Jong Un last week for human rights abuses.

All matters related to the United States, including the handling of American citizens detained by Pyongyang, will be conducted under its "wartime law," the North's official KCNA news agency said.

The move is the latest escalation of tension with the isolated country, which earlier on Monday threatened a "physical response" after the United States and South Korea said they would deploy the THAAD missile defense system in South Korea.

"As the United States will not accept our demand for the immediate withdrawal of the sanctions measure, we will be taking corresponding actions in steps," KCNA said.

"As the first step, we have notified that the New York contact channel that has been the only existing channel of contact will be completely severed," it said.

"The Republic will handle all matters arising between us and the United States from now on under our wartime laws, and the matters of Americans detained are no exception to this."

It was not clear how "wartime laws" would affect the handling of the two Americans detained. But North Korea has indicated in the past that wartime laws would mean that detainees will not be released on humanitarian grounds.

The North and the United States remain technically at war because the 1950-53 Korean War, in which Washington sided with the South, ended only with a truce.

The two Americans known to be detained in North Korea include Otto Warmbier, a University of Virginia student sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in March for trying to steal an item with a propaganda slogan, according to North Korean state media. The other, Korean-American Kim Dong Chul, is serving a 10 year sentence for espionage, state media said.

The New York University chapter of Palestinian group Students for Justice in Palestine has accused Israel of complicity in recent shootings of African-Americans by U.S. police.

The fundraising campaign, which sought to raise 400,000 ($105,000) within 30 days ended up netting 406,664 shekels in just 12 hours.

Cop Shot in Traffic Stop Ambush Near Ferguson
[Daily Beast] A police officer is in ’bad shape’ after being shot in the neck during a routine traffic stop.

An officer shot during a traffic stop in a town near St. Louis, Missouri was described as kind-hearted, outgoing, and a "centerpiece" of the police department by friends and colleagues.

Michael Flamion was shot in the neck during a traffic stop in Ballwin, about 20 miles from Ferguson, on Friday, shortly after a sniper killed five police officers and injured seven others in Dallas, Texas. Flamion is expected to survive.

"Make no mistake, we believe ... that [Flamion] was ambushed, period," St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said. "It is an unfortunate state of events."

BLM Minister of Defense advocates for separatist nation
[Breitbart] Babu Omowale, the so-called national minister of defense for the People's New Black Panther Party, says his group and allied organizations have their sights set on establishing "our own government in a nation within a nation."

Omowale was speaking in an interview set to air Sunday night on this reporter's talk radio program, "Aaron Klein Investigative Radio," broadcast on New York's AM 970 The Answer and News Talk 990 AM in Philadelphia.

Omowale used the interview to claim five states as belonging to the "Black Nation": North Dakota, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia.

The revolutionary stated: "We just need to start migrating back to those states and taking control of the economics in those states. If black people move in, most definitely white people will move out. So it's not a hard process for us to have our own country within a country."

Anyone watch The Last Ship? I really don't, but there was an episode where a sub attacked the ship, but it was a setup to get video of the ship doing military things so when the bad guys blew up the civilian ships in the harbor, the bad guys broadcast dramatic footage of the ship and edited it to appear they (good guys) were firing on the harbor.

I think that is what they are trying to do here. And they will escalate until they get their moment.

Y'all in these cities may want to quick check your EP kit, because if they (self redacted) and/or (self redacted) some food and water/make potable water might come in handy. They are already trying to disrupt transportation; may want to keep that in mind if your boogie route involves an Interstate.

Leaked Document Says 2,000 Men Allegedly Assaulted 1,200 German Women On New Year's Eve
At first, there was complete silence from officials. As rumors spread on social media, police had nothing to say about allegations of mass sexual assaults and other crimes carried out on New Year's Eve in the German city of Cologne.

It was only days later that officials reported that hundreds of women were victims of assault in Cologne, Hamburg and other German cities.

But numbers that are now emerging are likely to shock a country still coming to terms with what happened in Cologne more than half a year ago. According to a leaked police document, published by Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper and broadcasters NDR and WDR, the previous estimates have to be dramatically revised -- upward.

Authorities now think that on New Year's Eve, more than 1,200 women were sexually assaulted in various German cities, including more than 600 in Cologne and about 400 in Hamburg.

More than 2,000 men were allegedly involved, and 120 suspects -- many of them foreign nationals -- have been identified.

Only four have been convicted, but more trials are underway.

On Thursday, a court in Cologne sentenced two men in the New Year's Eve assaults. Hussein A., a 21-year-old Iraqi, and Hassan T., a 26-year-old Algerian, were handed suspended one-year sentences. Both arrived in Germany in the past two years, a court spokesman said. He declined to specify whether the two had sought asylum.

Officials have linked the sexual assaults to the influx of refugees. "There is a connection between the emergence of this phenomenon and the rapid migration in 2015," Holger Munch, president of the German Federal Crime Police Office, told Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
Gesundheit.
He also predicted that many of the New Year's Eve perpetrators will never be convicted. "We have to presume that many of those crimes will never be fully investigated." Germany has relatively low CCTV coverage, which makes it more difficult for investigators to identify suspects.

Although it is not expected that significantly more CCTV cameras will be installed in the foreseeable future, other measures have been taken. Germany's Parliament passed a stricter sexual-assault law last week that will make it easier for courts to sentence those who facilitate or are involved in assaults.
Maybe the solution is to love them more. Until you win.
Lawmakers were facing intense pressure to pass such a law, particularly in the wake of the Cologne assaults. Most of the perpetrators in that city stand accused of groping and facilitating sex assaults as part of a group -- accusations that were difficult to prosecute.

The stricter law is also supposed to make it easier for refugees to be deported if they are convicted in sex-assault cases -- an aspect of the new law that activists and advocates for refugees have harshly criticized.

Halina Wawzyniak, a lawmaker from the Left Party, told The Washington Post last week that immigration issues and sexual-assault cases should not be linked, as refugees could end up facing a "double punishment" by being deported. "The debate used to be about 'no means no' -- now all that is being talked about in social networks are foreigners again," she said.

Funeral in absentia held for Edhi
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: Hundreds of people offered a funeral in absentia for Abdul Sattar Edhi at various places in the garrison city on Saturday.
That's what I want, by gum. Y'all show up and send flowers and stuff, and I'll be in Omaha or Terre Haute, laughing my buttocks off.
The funeral at Liaquat Bagh was arranged by the Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee in which more than 300 people participated, along with Advocate Asad Abbasi and PPP’s Nasir Mir.

Mr Mir said Edhi was always there for everyone and that people respected him. He said the people of Rawalpindi will feel alone in times of trouble now that he is no more. Edhi left the message of love and of serving those in need, he said, adding that the best tribute to the late philanthropist would be to serve people and get involved in charity work.

Army claims capture of Sharksi
Benghazi and Tripoli, 10 July 2016:

Mustafa Sharksi, who led revolutionary forces in Misrata in 2011, was reported by the army to have been captured today when the Islamist militia he was leading to relieve trapped terrorists in Ganfouda was intercepted.

However the Benghazi Defence Brigade, of which Sharksi is the commander, produced an undated picture of him, saying he was still with his men. It added that far from being routed, as the army claimed, the brigade had overrun the army camp at the Al-Jalidiya checkpoint, 60 kilometres from Ajdabiya, capturing an ammunition depot, four tanks and various military vehicles.

The army’s version of the day’s events is that early this morning 30 vehicles were spotted 35 kilometres north of Ajdabiya heading toward Benghazi. Units hemming in Islamist forces in Ganfouda were ordered to hold their positions. Army spokesman Ahmed Mismari told the Libya Herald that the 132 Brigade from Ajdabiya was ordered after Sharksi’s force while a unit from Suluq was sent to intercept them. Air force planes then attacked the convoy, destroying at least four vehicles, though one report hasd it that all of them were hit.

When the army moved in, it said that it captured Sharksi who was taken to Khalifa Hafter’s HQ in Marj. There is also an unconfirmed report that Usma Jadhran, the hardline Islamist brother of Adjabiya-based Petroleum Facilities Guard commander Ibrahim Jadhran, died in today’s fighting.

The BDB has said that the air strikes caused no casualties. This afternoon it said that it was in control of the Sultan district and fighting was continuing as it pressed on toward Suluq and Al-Magroun.

If the BDB’s account is correct then they have made a daring and thus-far successful thrust which may yet relieve the pressure on the IS and Ansar Al-Sharia terrorists, along with their Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council allies who are trapped to the south of Benghazi.

However, if all the army claims are right, then it would seem that the BDB has suffered a significant setback.

Adjabiya hospital said this evening that it had received three bodies, all of whom were believed to be of BDB fighters all well as several injured, from both sides.

Gunmen in western Iran kill 2, injure lawmaker
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Unknown gunnies killed two people and injured a politician and a local governor in western Iran after opening fire on their car, an Iranian semi-official news agency reported.

The Tasnim agency reported Sunday that four gunnies blocked the car and opened fire. The driver and a local veterinary official were killed. Pro-reform politician Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh sustained minor injuries, and the local governor of the Dalahoo district and a fishery official were also injured.

The gunnies fled toward the Iraqi border, according to the Tasnim report. In recent weeks, Iranian forces and Kurdish separatists have clashed in western Iran. Iran said its forces have killed dozens of forces of Evil in the country’s western provinces near Iraq, which have a large Kurdish minority.

Spanish bullfighter gored to death on live TV
[USATODAY] MADRID - A bullfighter was fatally gored in Spain in an eastern town — the first professional matador to be killed in the ring in more than three decades.
"That's enterta-a-a-ainment!"
Victor Barrio, 29, was pronounced dead late Saturday by a surgeon at the Teruel bullring. Barrio was first gored in the thigh by the 1,166-pound (530-kilogram) bull’s left horn and his body was flipped over.

He was gored a second time in the chest and the blow penetrated a lung and his aorta as the matador was on the ground.

Medics were at his side almost immediately, but attempts to save his life were unsuccessful. The goring of Barrio was broadcast live on television and news of his death stirred widespread reaction ranging from the bullfighting community to well-known politicians.

“My condolences to the family and colleagues of Victor Barrio, the deceased bullfighter this evening in Teruel. Rest in Peace,” Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy tweeted.

US frees Yemeni prisoner from Guantanamo, sends him to Italy
[AlAhram] A Yemeni prisoner at Guantanamo Bay has been released after more than 14 years in jug and sent to Italia.

The Pentagon said Sunday that the release of Fayiz Ahmad Yahia Suleiman
...a Yemeni member of the original Al Qaeda. If you were to google his name, dear Reader, his Wikileaks file would pop up. But since that is probably still classified, I won't suggest it...
reduces the number of men held at the U.S. base in Cuba to 78. He is one of about two dozen low-level
...given it's taken this long to release him, the current definition of low is probably decidedly eccentric...
Guantanamo prisoners expected to be released in the coming weeks.

Military records show Suleiman was suspected of fighting with al-Qaeda against U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan. He was never charged.
He was a prisoner of war and a spy. Such people are not charged, they are held and interrogated.
He was cleared for release in 2010 but U.S. does not sent Yemeni prisoners to their homeland because of instability there and had to find another country to accept him for resettlement.

The U.S. transferred two Guantanamo detainees to Italia in November 2009.

The cub that roared: Bin Laden’s son threatens revenge against USA
[IsraelTimes] Al-Qaeda scion warns Americans of ’punishment’ coming for the ’sinful crime’ of killing his father in 2011

Al-Qaeda’s media arm has released an audio in which the purported son of the late al-Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
... who used to be alive but now he's not...
threatens Dire Revenge against the US for assassinating his father.

In the video released by As-Sahab Saturday, Hamza bin Laden
...the youngest of the formerly living Osama bin Laden's eighteen sons was reportedly groomed to replace him. He pops up periodically to speak threatening words like this...
tells Americans that they are accountable for the decisions of their leaders. He says al-Qaeda will continue waging jihad, or holy war, against the US in response to its "oppression" of Moslems.

"If you think that your sinful crime that you committed in Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
has passed without punishment, then you thought wrong," he says.
Perhaps the young gentleman has confused his verb tenses, and means the punishment is yet to come.
Bin Laden was killed in a May 2011 US raid at his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistain. His son’s whereabouts are not known. Analysts speculate that he may be preparing to take over leadership of al-Qaeda.

Iran to expand oil pipelines, storage capacity
Iran plans to expand the oil pipelines network and storage capacity significantly by March 2021, according an official document seen by Trend. The document, prepared by Oil Ministry, says that the length of current oil pipeline network stood at 9,793 km during the last fiscal year that ended on March 20, while the storage capacity reached 2.54 million barrels per day (mbpd).

According to the statistics, included in the document, Iran’s gasoline storage capacity will increase by 13 percent to 4.33 billion liters by 2021, while the figure for oil gas will increase by 31 percent to 5.39 billion liters.
That'll keep pressure on oil prices. Tough luck for the Russians, Saudis and Venezuelans...

Israel AG orders 'examination' into Netanyahu 'matter'
Israel's Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit said on Sunday he had ordered an "examination" into an unspecified affair involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after weeks of media speculation and rumours.

"After receiving information on matters pertaining, among others, to the prime minister," Mandelblit met police and justice officials, after which he decided "to order an examination into the matter," a justice ministry statement read.

"We stress that this is an examination and not a criminal investigation into the prime minister," it read.

The ministry provided no further details, but media said the suspicions involved a money transfer.

A spokesman for Netanyahu said that "as in all of the previous cases" of suspicions against the premier, "this will contain nothing too -- because there's nothing there".

Netanyahu last month acknowledged receiving money from French tycoon Arnaud Mimran, who was on Thursday sentenced to eight years in prison over a scam amounting to 283 million euros involving the trade of carbon emissions permits and the taxes on them.

The allegations against Netanyahu are the latest focused on his spending. In May, the Israeli state comptroller issued a critical report about Netanyahu's foreign trips, some with his wife and children, between 2003 and 2005 when he was finance minister.

The noise as Baloch entered the house woke up Bibi's father and brothers-in-law, prompting her to hide him in a large tin storage trunk in her room.

She then placed a padlock on the trunk.

Dallas police shooter accused of sexual harassment in Army
[USATODAY] Micah Xavier Johnson, who authorities say fatally shot five officers in a ruthless ambush in downtown Dallas, was sent back to the U.S. by the Army in 2014 while serving in Afghanistan after being accused of sexual harassment by a female soldier, according to his then military lawyer.

Lawyer Bradford Glendening told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named that Johnson was sent back with the recommendation that he be removed from the Army with an "other than honorable discharge."

Glendening, who represented Johnson at the time, told the AP Friday that the recommendation was "highly unusual" since counseling is usually ordered before more drastic steps are taken.

Glendening said Johnson, who served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve, was set to be removed from service in September 2014 because of the sexual harassment incident but instead received an honorable discharge in April 2015 for reasons the lawyer said were unclear.

Johnson served one tour Afghanistan beginning in late 2013, according to the Army. He was a private first class with a specialty in carpentry and masonry.

Father of Prophet’s Mosque suicide bomber disowns his son
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The father of 26-year-old Nayer Musallam Hammad Al-Nijeidi Al Bluwi has disowned his son.

"I feel great sorrow and sadness over the heinous crime committed by my son in Madinah near the Prophet’s Mosque. I hereby state that this criminal does not represent me nor does he represent our tribe.

"We all stand by the government and put our hands in its hands against all terrorist acts. My son Fahad has also disowned his brother," the father said in a statement to Okaz.

Nayer was working for the Border Guard three years ago and was dismissed from his post, his father said. He lived in Tabuk for some time and used to visit the family home every now and then.

He stayed in his family house during Shaban and Ramadan months and disappeared on 25th of Ramadan without saying anything.

He called later on the night of his disappearance and told his father that he was traveling to Makkah and did not give any more information.

The terrorist attack carried out by Nayer, who had a history of drug abuse, killed four coppers in the vicinity of the Prophet’s Mosque.

Private Abdulrahman Al-Juhani, one of the security officers who died in the attack, was the sole breadwinner of a family of nine members.

One day before the attack, he asked his family members to gather at home where he gave his mother a gold bracelet as a gift. He was active in giving charity and helping the poor.

He also bought a car for his mother before his death. He did everything he could to please his mother and make her happy.

Saudi security forces closing in on ISIS networks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Saudi security authorities are tightening the noose around ISIS snuffies by pursuing those involved in the recent terrorist blasts and uncovering the coordination between them after the coppers’s vigilance thwarted the destructive impact that the snuffies wanted to achieve.

Security Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said he does not rule out the existence of contacts between the perpetrators of the recent terrorist bombings in Jeddah, Qatif and Madinah, as the substance used in making the explosive vests is the same in the three blasts.

Furthermore, there is evidence on the existence of coordination between them, especially between the Qatif and Madinah incidents, as both attacks took place at Maghreb prayer time.

Maj. Al-Turki further said that there are suspicions that the 12 Paks, who it was announced were detained on Thursday, have connections with the Jeddah blast.

Al-Turki said one of the perpetrators of the Qatif blast, Abdulrahman Saleh Muhammad Al-Imir, were tossed into the calaboose twice earlier for taking part in riots demanding the release of detainees involved in terror cases.

On announcing the detention of 12 Paks, the number of those involved in terror crimes in Soddy Arabia

Imams of mosques in the majority of the region’s countries have dedicated their Friday sermons to denouncing terrorism and violating the sanctity of the Prophet’s Mosque.

Flynn slams Clinton, indicates support for abortion rights
[USATODAY] The latest name to surface in Donald Trump's vice presidential search criticized Democrat Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as The Liberatress of Libya and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Al Haig ...
on Sunday for what he called a lack of leadership in the wake of last week's shootings involving police and African Americans.

Retired Gen. Michael Flynn, speaking on ABC's This Week, also indicated he supports abortion rights and downplayed the significance of the same-sex marriage issue, saying the election should be about national security.

"It's about leadership, and it's about responsible leadership as well," Flynn told ABC. "The country is going in the wrong direction."

Flynn said Clinton's comments after this week's violence -- the shooting deaths of two African-American men by police and the killings of five coppers in Dallas -- were "totally irresponsible when she talked about white people being to blame. I mean, that is so irresponsible."

A Clinton supporter, Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, told ABC that Clinton also honored coppers and said all people should respect the difficult jobs they do. He said the Democratic presidential candidate has "been somebody who’s tried to heal the divisions of our country."

The retired general, who once worked in the B.O. regime, also criticized the FBI for declining to recommend prosecution of Clinton over her use of private email as secretary of state.

18 die as protests continue in India-held Kashmir after militant's death
[DAWN] Protesters and government forces in Indian-held Kashmire clashed for a second day Sunday as anger over the death of an influential murderous Moslem boiled over, with 18 people killed in some of the worst civilian unrest to hit the region since 2010.

Another 200 people have been maimed in the violence, many of them protesters who were hit when government forces fired tear gas canisters and live ammunition on Saturday.

Among the 18 dead was a police man who drowned when angry protesters pushed an armoured vehicle into a river in the southern district of Sangam on Sunday, a police officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Thousands of residents of the disputed region are defying a government-imposed curfew to take to the streets in protest at the killing on Friday of murderous Moslem leader Burhan Wani.

The state government, which has also cut off internet and mobile phone networks to try to stop the protests spreading, called for calm on Sunday.

"They [protesters] should not take their protests to a level where a man holding a gun is forced to open fire," said front man Nayeem Akhtar.

There were also reports of security forces attacking hospitals and ambulances treating the maimed.

Islamic Jihad fighter killed in Gaza tunnel collapse
[IsraelTimes] One person was killed as a tunnel being dug in the Gazoo Strip collapsed Sunday morning, according to Paleostinian reports.

Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,’s al Aqsa TV station confirmed one man had died when a tunnel collapsed in the northern Gazoo Strip. He was named as 28-year-old Ibrahim Hussein al-Masri.

The Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror group said on its website that Masri was a member of the al-Quds Brigades, the group’s armed wing.

The collapsed tunnel was the 13th reported incident of its kind since the beginning of the year. At least 17 people, most of them reportedly members of Hamas’s Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, have been killed in the collapses.

Syrian Forces Foil Raid on Castello, Kill 29 Militants
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Nearly 30 foreign-sponsored Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
murderous Moslems have been killed in an offensive they had unsuccessfully launched to reopen a key supply route into the Syrian northern city of Aleppo.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced on Sunday that murderous Moslems from the so-called Faylaq al-Sham and Nusra Front, the latter of which is the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, mounted an attack to recapture the strategic Castello Road on Thursday.

It added that Syrian army soldiers launched a counter-offensive, killing 29 Death Eaters and foiling their attack.

"The attack has ended and the road remains completely closed," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.

The Castello Road was effectively severed by Syrian forces Thursday when they seized a hilltop within firing range of the key supply route.

By Saturday, the army soldiers were within 500 meters (yards) of the road and firing on any vehicle attempting to use it.

The Observatory said at least one car had been targeted on the road early Sunday morning, adding it was unclear if it was carrying civilians or fighters.

The capture of the Castello Road came in the wake of recent advances by the Syrian army in the al-Mallah Farms area northwest of Aleppo.

The army had been attempting to seize Mallah for more than two years as it runs adjacent to the Castello Road, the last route murderous Moslems can use to access districts they control in the second Syrian city.

The capture of Mallah Farms and Castello Road enables Syrian forces to besiege myrmidon-held neighborhoods of Aleppo and puts them within the firing range of the army.

Police Group Criticizes Dayton’s Hasty Reaction to Shooting
[AMERICANEXPERIMENT.ORG] In Minnesota, there has been an outpouring of anger at Governor Mark Dayton, who within hours after the fatal shooting of Philando Castile by a St. Anthony police officer, alleged that the incident was due to "racism," even though he knew nothing about the officer, Jeronimo Yanez, and next to nothing about how the incident unfolded. Despite that wave of criticism, Dayton says that he "stands by" his premature, uninformed accusation against Yanez.

Now criticism of Dayton’s performance has gone national, as the executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations tells the Washington Post that Dayton’s remarks "exploited a horrible and tragic situation."
Well sure, he's a Democrat, and the 2016 election plan for the Democrats is to exploit racial tension to get black voters to the polls. He's just reading from the script.
"I think right now, the overriding emotion collectively is one of sadness, I think it’s one of anger and I think it’s one of resignation in the sense that I still have a job to do," Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations, told The Washington Post on Friday. "But there’s got to be a fear, a concern, that because of the job, because of the uniform I wear, I’m being targeted."

That concern is obviously well-founded, given the multiple attacks on coppers in recent days.

Johnson said [Governor Dayton] "exploited what was already a horrible and tragic situation."

"Whether race had something to do with it or not, I don’t know, because I can’t get into the officer’s head," Johnson told The Post. "And neither can the governor."

Mark Dayton has embarrassed Minnesota, by no means for the first time. The least he can do is apologize for his inexcusable rush to judgment and from here on, if he has nothing constructive to say, maintain a dignified silence.

Afghanistan
ISIS Loses Afghan Foothold but Attacks Persist
Afghan Lieutenant General Mohammad Waziri leading the country’s battle against ISIS recently noticed something odd about the terrorist group’s fighters; for some reason, they would not loot ammunition after raids against state forces.

Gen. Waziri, said that the militants’ disregard for the ‘spoils’ of battle is a clear sign that the militants are already well financed.

“They have a lot of money. Who’s giving it to them? How (are) they getting funds? I don’t know,” Waziri, the commander of the Afghan army’s 201st Selab Corps, told a small group of reporters on Sunday.

The financing, the persistence of ISIS attacks and the ease with which its forces are slipping back and forth across the Afghan-Pakistan border, are some of the reasons Waziri is not boasting too much about territorial inroads against the group this year.

Many of those advances have been the result of U.S. air strikes against the group launched since U.S. President Barack Obama allowed the U.S. military in January to strike militants linked to ISIS’ offshoot in Afghanistan, known as ISIS-Khorasan Province.

General John Nicholson, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, said the U.S. strikes had helped reduce the amount of territory where ISIS has a presence in Nangarhar province to just two or three districts from a maximum of about nine last year.

“Is it as large as it once was? No. Are we encouraged by the reduction? Absolutely. But we need to keep the pressure on,” he told reporters.

Nicholson’s statements were exceptionally cautious.

Militants linked to the Iraq- and Syria-based ISIS have never made as much progress in Afghanistan.

Afghan territory is believed to be mainly overrun by the group which is believed to mostly comprise disaffected members of other insurgent movements, including the Taliban, who have often battled ISIS for control of areas in Nangarhar.

Waziri acknowledged an ISIS presence in each of Kowt, Achin and Dih Bala districts.

Both Waziri and Nicholson, speaking separately, also warned about the group’s presence along the border with Pakistan. Waziri said ISIS militants had training centers and arms depots there and estimated the group had up to 2,000 fighters in the border area.

Afghanistan
3 kidz die in bombing attack in Kandahar
At least three children were killed in an explosion in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan, local officials said.

Provincial police spokesman Zia Durani said the incident took place earlier today on a main highway connecting Spin Boldak and Arghistan district.

He said a rickshaw vehicle carrying civilians struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), leaving at least three children dead.

Durani further added that six others including three women and three men also sustained injuries in the attack.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the other insurgent groups are frequently using Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces.

The IEDs are the main contributors to the casualties of the Afghan security forces but are also considered as a key factor in growing civilian casualties.

At least 11 civilians belonging to a same family were killed in a similar attack in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan late in the month of May.

At least 600 civilians were killed and 1,343 others were wounded in the first quarter of 2016, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said in its latest report.

UNAMA further added that consistent with 2015 trends, ground engagements caused the highest number of total civilian casualties, followed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs), complex and suicide attacks, as well as targeted killings.

According to UNAMA, actions by Anti-Government Elements caused at least 60 per cent of casualties while Pro-Government Forces caused at least 19 per cent.

Taliban Funds War From Drug Trade, Say Helmand Councilors
The least you can do is the act surprised, sheesh
The Taliban insurgents are making massive amounts of money through illicit drug trafficking and a range of other illicit dealings, says Mohammad Karim Atal, the head of Helmand provincial council.

The insurgent group was also involved in illegal mining, smuggling of precious stones, imposing illegal taxes on the people and by smuggling marble.

In addition, the Taliban collects illegal revenue from the Kajaki hydro-electrical dam in the southern province of Helmand, members of the provincial council said on Sunday, as the group's longtime insurgency shows no sign ending in that fragile region.

Earlier police officials in Helmand said the security forces have put strategies in place to cut off Taliban's illegal funding by curbing the group's activities in the volatile region.

On Sunday Atal said that the collection of money through illegal sources has been funding the war machine of the Taliban in the province.

He said that the amount collected by the Taliban through illicit sources is estimated at $50,000 daily.

According to Helmand provincial council, the Taliban also collects taxes from the telecom companies, including the government institutions in areas under the control of the Taliban.

"The Taliban collects taxes from multiple sources, however their main income source is drug smuggling and cultivation. The Taliban use the money to fund their war," said Bashir Ahmad Shakir member of Helmand provincial council.

Police officials in Helmand have also expressed major concerns about the issue and vowed to take firm steps to cut off the funding sources of the Taliban.

"We are also concerned about this practice. The Taliban, by collecting this money, fuel their war. We are trying to recapture those villages under the control of the Taliban," said Aqa Noor Kintoz, police chief of Helmand.

Egypt army, police foil planned attack on North Sinai
[AlAhram] The foiled attack is the latest in a series of security force operations against murderous Moslems in North Sinai

Egyptian security forces foiled Sunday an attack that was set to target a security checkpoint in North Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid city, the Egyptian military said.

In an official statement, army front man Brigadier General Mohammed Samir said that security forces "were able to thwart the attack after they monitored a gathering of murderous Moslems near the checkpoint based on intelligence information, killing them through strikes conducted by air forces and field artillery."

The statement did not include information about the number of murderous Moslems killed in the "pre-emptive strike."

The army front man also shared information regarding the army's major hits in the last couple of days, announcing the killing of 14 murderous Moslems in a shootout during combing and raid operations in the areas of Al-Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid.

He added that the killed murderous Moslems possessed three fire machine guns, 234 bullets,
...so less than four minutes on full automatic?
two grenades, and wireless devices.

The security forces were also able to arrest 12 suspects, two of whom were wanted, as well as dismantling an improvised bomb (IED) that was to be planted targeting moving forces.

According to the army, the latest announced hits against murderous Moslems come in continuation of the "Martyrs' Right" operation, a comprehensive joint military and police operation that started in September 2015.
We haven't heard that name in a while. Clearly a good thing it's still going on.

Assad: Western States Responsible for Terrorism, Extremism, Refugees Flow
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
blamed some Western leaders for the terrorism and refugee problems facing Europe.

During a meeting on Sunday with the visiting delegation of the European Parliament headed by Vice-President of the Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Javier Couso, the President discussed the situation in Syria, the terrorist war waged on it and the growing destructive impacts of the spread of terror to world regions.

Assad said that what is happening in Syria and the Arab region would greatly affect Europe given the geographical vicinity of the two regions and the cross-cultural communication.

He held the leaders of some Western states responsible for the problems of terrorism and extremism and the refugee flows currently facing Europe for having adopted policies that are against the interests of the peoples of these states.

The President slammed those Western leaders for providing the political cover and support to the terrorist organizations in Syria.

Striking a relevant note, President al-Assad said the European parliamentarians could play a significant role to correct the wrong policies of their governments that have caused terrorism to spread and led to worsening the living conditions of the Syrian people due to the economic blockade they imposed on them, forcing many Syrians to leave their country and seek refuge in other states.

For their part, the European delegation members said their visit to Syria and the suffering of the Syrian people they have seen firsthand would make them put effort to the effect of correcting the policies of the European governments and pressuring them into lifting the sanctions.

Houthis Spent $1 Billion on Recruitment in 2015
When all your money goes to marketing and none to operations, it's hard to make sufficient profit to pay the vig...
A source close to the Yemeni Prime Ministry uncovered Houthis’ wide economic violations in Yemen during 2015, particularly its spending of $1 billion on recruitment, in addition to looting the contributions of diplomatic missions, and the benefits of the Foreign Ministry employees, which are worth around $38.5 million.

The source also said Houthis had decided to remove many beneficiary payments usually offered to more than 10 million public workers, and therefore, currently leave workers with minimum wages that are barely sufficient to cover their personal spending.

The source added that the number of those enlisted in the defense and security missions has exceeded 100,000 recruiters, costing more than 260 billion Yemeni Rials yearly, while the allowances of army and security personnel were looted by militias.

These violations also include using fiscal money to spend more than billions of Yemeni Rials on celebrations and evening parties organized by Houthis and ousted President Abdullah Saleh’s militias, at a time when Yemenis suffer from dire economic conditions.

“While Yemenis live in extreme poverty, these militias use fiscal money and rob the relief and reconstruction funds of Saada, Abeen and Hadhramout, and the injuries of 2011,” the source said.

The source added that Houthis had robbed from the credits of the Defense Ministry the values of oil and fuel, which are worth around $35.9 million a month. Also, Houthis had placed their hands on the local state’s budget, worth around $131.9 million, in addition to robbing around 20 million Yemeni Rials from public revenues to finance militias in its war against the Yemeni people.

The source said that the credits and accounts of the Martyrs Institution, which was established by a government decision in 2013 in collaboration with the militias, were also stolen.

The source added: “Covering the bill of the war by exploiting fiscal money to fabricate militias and recruit innocent people and children to fight in a meaningless war, have no justifications but to serve conflicts that only take the Yemenis backward.”

He said the accounts of projects financed by the government through its investment programs have turned from 4% to zero and were all frozen. “Several ongoing projects were destroyed after being turned into military compounds used by militias,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Minister of state Yasser Araeini said that the government “had dealt with the so-called economic truce forced by the international community as a de facto.”

In a telephone interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Araeini said: “The government had not accepted the truce,” because fiscal money and the accounts of the government are currently at the Central Bank in Sana’a, which is controlled by the militias, and therefore there is no stockpiles in the hands of the legal authorities.

He said that militias had robbed fiscal money to support their war against Yemenis. “This is why the country was driven to a big monetary collapse,” Araeini said.

The Yemeni minister said that the government has worked and is still working on stopping militias from steeling the state’s money, however, because Houthis control the Central Bank in Sana’a, militias will continue to commit crimes against national economy.

Demanding order, Sisi turns to military to rebuild Egypt
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] During two years in office, Egypt’s general-turned-president Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi has sought to impose a military-style discipline to end years of turmoil and has turned to the armed forces to help rebuild the deeply damaged economy to a degree unseen in more than 50 years.

The military has taken the lead in carrying out a string of major projects, from building roads and overseeing housing construction to providing cheap food to the public. That has provided a needed bit of stimulus and helped keep Egyptians going in hard times.

But the flip side has been a heavy emphasis on secrecy, leaving observers unsure how Sisi plans to tackle an economy struggling under high inflation, unemployment and a tumbling currency.

Sisi has frequently sought to impose secrecy on politicians over issues that usually would be open for public discussion. In June, he said some of his planned projects cannot be announced, without explanation.

When his electricity minister said on live TV in May that the Aswan Dam was taken off the electricity grid temporarily, Sisi angrily cut him off, saying, "Let us not talk about these details." When his oil minister, again on live television, showed a map of a proposed oil pipeline during a power point presentation, Sisi ordered the slide removed.

Controversial decisions
One of his most controversial decisions, to surrender two Red Sea islands to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, was taken behind closed doors - intentionally, Sisi said, to prevent media attention.

The move sparked a rare burst of street protests and angry criticism. In a televised meeting with politicians and editors, Sisi defended the decision and demanded no one discuss the subject again.

He brusquely shut down one politician who attempted to speak to him, saying "Excuse me, I did not give anyone permission to speak."

"He wants to run the country like the military," said Michael W. Hanna, an Egypt expert with the New York-based Century foundation.

"In that world, it is a question of order and execution, it is not a place for discussion, transparency or politics. They don’t want politics."
Egypt has had presidents who hailed from the military for all but two of the past 64 years since army officers seized power in a 1952 coup.

Under longtime autocrat Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
, a former air force chief, the armed forces held its own economic empire, including factories, stores and companies.

But private businessmen took the lead in the economy and investment projects in general, gaining a powerful say in politics and Mubarak’s ruling party - often to the military leadership’s dismay.

Yemen’s government did not respond to a request for comment on the strike. Washington does not comment on drone strikes in Yemen. Photographs shared in Yemeni media showed a crowd of men looking at black smoke rising from the remains of a land cruiser.

[Ynet] Israeli Moslem accidentally shot at end of Ramadan dies.

The elderly man was reportedly sitting in his yard on Monday night when he felt something hit him. At first he paid it no mind, but eventually he decided to go to the hospital, following which a bullet was discovered to be lodged in the man’s body. He was found to have died on Saturday.

The police estimate that if the bullet was indeed the cause of death, it does not denote premeditated murder, but rather accidental death caused by a stray bullet shot in celebration of either the end of Ramadan or the beginning of Eid al-Fitr.

A Black Cop's Thoughts About Black Violence And BLM
I have come to realize something that is still hard for me to understand to this day. The following may be a shock to some coming from an African American, but the mere fact that it may be shocking to some is prima facie evidence of the sad state of affairs that we are in as Humans.

I used to be so torn inside growing up. Here I am, a young African-American born and raised in Brooklyn, NY wanting to be a cop. I watched and lived through the crime that took place in the hood. My own black people killing others over nothing. Crack heads and heroin addicts lined the lobby of my building as I shuffled around them to make my way to our 1 bedroom apartment with 6 of us living inside. I used to be woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of gun fire, only to look outside and see that it was 2 African Americans shooting at each other.

It never sat right with me. I wanted to help my community and stop watching the blood of African Americans spilled on the street at the hands of a fellow black man. I became a cop because black lives in my community, along with ALL lives, mattered to me, and wanted to help stop the bloodshed.

As time went by in my law enforcement career, I quickly began to realize something. I remember the countless times I stood 2 inches from a young black man, around my age, laying on his back, gasping for air as blood filled his lungs. I remember them bleeding profusely with the unforgettable smell of deoxygenated dark red blood in the air, as it leaked from the bullet holes in his body on to the hot sidewalk on a summer day. I remember the countless family members who attacked me, spit on me, cursed me out, as I put up crime scene tape to cordon off the crime scene, yelling and screaming out of pain and anger at the sight of their loved ones taking their last breath. I never took it personally, I knew they were hurting. I remember the countless times I had to order new uniforms, because the ones I had on, were bloody from the blood of another black victim...of black on black crime. I remember the countless times I got back in my patrol car, distraught after having watched another black male die in front me, having to start my preliminary report something like this:

Suspect- Black/ Male, Victim-Black /Male.

I remember the countless times I canvassed the area afterwards, and asked everyone "did you see who did it", and the popular response from the very same family members was always, "Fuck the Police, I aint no snitch, Im gonna take care of this myself. This happened every single time, every single homicide, black on black, and then my realization became clearer.

Five soldiers killed in PKK attack in Şemdinli
Five soldiers were killed in an attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Şemdinli district of the eastern province of Hakkari on July 10.

Militants detonated a bomb while a military vehicle was passing in the Aktütün region at around midday, Doğan News Agency reported. Four soldiers died at the scene, while another was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Reinforcements were sent to the scene and an operation was launched to apprehend the militants involved in the attack.

The attack in Hakkari came hours after a soldier and a village guard were killed in an attack by the PKK in the Erciş district of the eastern province of Van. Ten soldiers and five village guards were also injured in the attack, which was carried out with a bomb-laden car.

Iran Now Glorifies Its Fatalities in Syria
from NYTimes
For years, Iran covered up its military activities in Syria and Iraq, so the government could deny any official involvement on the ground.

No longer. Now every Iranian killed in action is named, his picture published, his valor lauded in elaborate tributes in the hard-line news media and on Instagram accounts dedicated to the fighters.

The Revolutionary Guards see publicizing the sacrifices of the fallen as a way to build domestic support for the current Syria policy and squelch any talk of compromise. The Instagram accounts have attracted tens of thousands of followers, most of them supporting the military effort.

"By being open about our role, we can prevent a diplomatic [non Alawite/Shiite Hegemony] solution in Syria," said Hamidreza Taraghi, a hard-line political analyst close to Iran's leaders. "First, we must defeat all terrorists in the battlefield. Only after that can we negotiate with them."

#1  Buried in the article:

One of the more prominent Instagram accounts is run by a reporter for Iranian state television, Hassan Shemshadi, who honors Iranian fighters and Afghans in the Iran-backed Fatemiyoun brigade... Since he started posting news of soldiers’ deaths in 2015, he has published a total of 346 mini-obituaries of Iranians and Iranian-backed Afghans in Syria and Iraq. That is a large majority of the 400 or so Iranian and Afghan soldiers thought to have died so far in the conflicts there.

Figger the number of casualties is double that.

Iraq
Daesh hard boyz set 5 oil wells south of Iraqi Mosul on fire
Daesh militants set several oil wells south of Mosul, the de-facto capital of the jihadist group in Iraq, on fire to slow down the advance of the government army, local media reported Sunday citing a source in the security services.

Militants set five oil wells close to Qayyarah refinery in Nineveh Governorate on fire and mined roads in the area, Shafaq News reported.

It comes a day after the Iraqi troops liberated the Qayyarah airbase some 60 miles south of Mosul from Daesh militants.

Iraqi forces are carrying out operations in Nineveh in preparation for an assault on Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city that has been under Daesh control since 2014.

Car bomb hits army outpost in Turkey
Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency says a vehicle laden with explosives has hit an army outpost in the southeastern province of Mardin, causing multiple injuries. Other Turkish media reported at least one dead soldier and up to 14 people wounded.

The private Dogan news agency says one soldier has been killed and five wounded in the attack Saturday at the Mardin outpost. According to the private broadcaster NTV, a soldier and a civilian were killed and 14 people were injured by the blast.

Turkey has been fighting Kurdish militants in its southeastern provinces after a cease-fire with the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, collapsed last July. The renewed conflict has claimed the lives of nearly 600 security personnel and more than 5,000 Kurdish militants, according to Anadolu. An unknown number of civilians have also been killed.

Fighting rocks South Sudan, many casualties
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] South Sudan's capital was rocked Sunday by heavy arms fire between forces loyal to the president and those of the vice president, causing widespread casualties and raising fears the country is returning to civil war.

The fighting began in the morning and continued until about 8pm local time, when a large thunderstorm seemed to put a damper on the violence, said UN mission spokeswoman Shantal Persaud. She confirmed that a UN armored personnel carrier was hit by a shell at a camp to protect civilians. UN peacekeepers in the vehicle were maimed, said witnesses.

"The condition is really very bad. We have a lot of casualties this side, I think around 50 to 60 besides those of yesterday," said Budbud Chol who oversees security at a clinic in the base. "We have civilian casualties. We have rocket-propelled grenades that have landed in the camp which has maimed eight people." Among the maimed are five children and two women while the rest were men, he said.

At least one person has died in the camp, he said, but he did not know about casualties outside where the fighting was heavy.

The opposition side blamed government forces for starting the fighting Sunday morning with an attack on a rebel base in the Jebel area of the capital. Three helicopter gunships bombed rebel camps, said William Gatjiath Deng, a front man for the rebel forces.

South Sudan’s army confirmed the Sunday festivities but it is not clear how the fighting started, said army front man Lul Ruai Koang, who is in the SPLA general headquarters at Bilpham.

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting Sunday to consider the fighting in South Sudan. UN Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon condemned the fighting.

"I am shocked and appalled by the heavy fighting that is currently taking place in Juba. I strongly urge President Kiir and First Vice-President Riek Machar to do everything within their power to de-escalate the hostilities immediately and to order their respective forces to disengage and withdraw to their bases," said Ban in a statement. "This senseless violence is unacceptable and has the potential of reversing the progress made so far in the grinding of the peace processor."

Ban confirmed that UN compounds and sites to protect civilians in Juba have been caught in the cross-fire.

About 10,000 Juba residents fled neighborhoods where there was fighting, said Jeremiah Young, policy adviser for World Vision in South Sudan.

"We have seen quite a few individuals packing up and leaving, trying to find shelter, what look like a lot of civilians taking off down the street, carrying their suitcases, their children," he said.

Other residents said they could not leave because of the fighting. "I’ve gotten calls that I should leave but there was so much gunfire nearby I decided to stay in," said one resident, who insisted on anonymity for her safety.

25 Saudi Mercenaries Killed, Dozens Wounded in Central Yemen
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] More than two dozen Death Eaters loyal to the former Yemeni government have been killed and scores of others injured during festivities with army troops and allied fighters in the western-central province of Amran.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said the festivities broke out during an army operation on Saturday to wrest control over the strategic Heed al-Zahab mountain in Farzah Nihm district of the province, Yemen’s September 26 news website reported.

The source added that Yemeni forces managed to seize the mountainous region following the intense fighting.

At least 25 Saudi mercenaries, including a turban commander identified as Abdumohammad Bukhaiti, were killed during the fierce skirmishes, and tens of others sustained injuries, according to the source.

Separately, Yemeni army forces and Houthi

Ansarullah fighters launched a ballistic missile at Shihat military camp in the northern province of al-Jawf on Sunday morning, leaving a large number of Saudi mercenaries dead and injured.

The development came only a few hours after an unspecified number of Saudi-backed Death Eaters died in a missile attack by Ansarullah fighters against Tadaween base in the central Yemeni province of Ma’rib.

Elsewhere in the southern coastal province of Aden, two bomb kabooms destroyed al-Mos’abin village, but no casualties were reported.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan condemns India's killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant commander
[DAWN] Pakistain on Sunday condemned what it termed the 'extra-judicial' killing of Hizbul Mujahideen bad boy commander Burhan Wani by government forces in India-held Kashmire (IHK) as the corpse count from festivities between Indian troops and protesters in the region rose to 15.

Wani, the Hizbul Mujahideen chief of operations, was killed in fighting on Friday after Indian troops, acting on a tip, cordoned a forested village in the southern Kashmire's Kokernag area, said Police Director-General K. Rajendra.

Two other members of Wani's group were also killed in the shootout.

"The extra-judicial killing of Kashmiri leader Burhan Wani and scores of other innocent Kashmiris is deplorable and condemnable," Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said.

The FO front man added that "such acts are a violation of the fundamental human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
of Kashmiris and can not deter the people of Jammu and Kashmire from their demand for the realisation of the right to self determination".

In his early 20s, Wani, had become the iconic face of militancy in Kashmire over the last five years. The son of a school headmaster, he regularly posted video messages online dressed in military fatigues and invited young men to join the movement against Indian rule.

Indian authorities imposed an indefinite curfew in most parts of Kashmire after Wani was killed, but massive protests continued despite attempts to suppress violence.

More than 100 civilians have so far been injured in festivities with Indian troops, who used live ammunition, pellet guns and tear gas to try and control the angry crowds, police said.

Nafees Zakaria also expressed Pakistain's concerns over the detention of Kashmiri leadership in IHK and called upon the Indian government to fulfil its human rights obligations as well as its commitments under United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Pakistain reiterates that the resolution of the Kashmire dispute is only possible through the realisation of the right to self-determination of the people of Kashmire, as per UNSC resolutions, through a fair and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices, the FO front man said.

France urges military action against al-Nusra Front
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
called Saturday for international action against an al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria, warning that the recent losses sustained by ISIS could embolden other hard boy groups.

"ISIS (the Arabic acronym for ISIS) is in retreat, that is beyond dispute," Hollande said after a meeting with the leaders of the United States, Germany, Britannia, Italia and Ukraine on the sidelines of a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
summit in Warsaw.

But, Hollande added, "We must also avoid a situation whereby as ISIS becomes weaker, other groups become stronger."

Hollande singled out al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front as particularly standing to benefit from the US-led military campaign against its arch-rival ISIS.

Faced with a barrage of Arclight airstrikes and ground offensives by local forces, ISIS has lost territory in both Syria and Iraq in recent months.

"We must coordinate among ourselves to continue actions against ISIS but also... take effective action against al-Nusra," Hollande said, directing his appeal at Russia and the US.

On Wednesday, US President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
agreed in a telephone call to "intensify" military coordination between their two countries in Syria.

Russia had in May proposed joint air strikes with the US against jihadist targets in Syria - a suggestion that was rebuffed by Washington.

The White House reported that the two leaders, in their call this week, "confirmed their commitment to defeating ISIS and the Al-Nusra Front."

The two groups are excluded from a broader truce brokered by Moscow and Washington in February.

Iran: Terrorists, Tools for Furtherance of Saudi Plans against Muslim Countries
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] An informed source at the Foreign Ministry said that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is using bandidos faceless myrmidons as a tool for developing its plans against Moslem nations in the region.

The source, who talked under the condition of anonymity, made the remarks while commenting on an anti-Iran gathering held on Saturday in Gay Paree, La Belle France, by a number of the rented and 'bankrupt terrorists' affiliated to the terrorist group of Mujahedeen Khalq Organization (MKO) and their Western and Saudi supporters to protest against Iran.

Referring to the presence of former Saudi security official Turki al-Faisal among the so-called protIran: Terrorists, Tools for Furtherance of Saudi Plans against Moslem Countries
estors in Gay Paree, the source said Faisal's presence in the gathering of 'bankrupt terrorists' has indicated, once more, Riyadh's 'political foolishness.'

In an indirect reference to Riyadh, the source added that Turki al-Faisal's presence has also indicated frustration of the 'father of Taliban and Al-Qaeda and the partner of Zionists' in dealing with Iran.

Tehran-Riyadh diplomatic relations have been soured following the Hajj tragedy on September 24, 2015 in Mina where over 8,000 pilgrims, including 461 Iranians, were killed in a stampede. Many believe that the incompetence and mismanagement of the Saudi officials caused the tragedy.

"Turki al-Faisal's presence among the MKO protestors in Gay Paree and his anti-Iran remarks showed that the Saudis have resorted to bandidos faceless myrmidons as they had already done so in Iraq, Syria and Yemen, to achieve their goals against Moslem nations in the region," the Foreign Ministry source told IRNA.

He described Saturday's anti-Iran rally as a 'street show' made by bandidos faceless myrmidons affiliated to MKO and its Saudi and Western supporters adding, the so-called anti-Iran protestors and their 'overt and covert supporters have come together to comfort each other.'

The MKO has carried out numerous terrorist attacks against Iranian civilians and government officials over the past three decades. Out of the nearly 17,000 Iranians killed in terrorist attacks since the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, about 12,000 have fallen victim to MKO’s acts of terror.

Washington and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
have removed the MKO from their list of terrorist organizations and the group currently enjoys freedom of movement and activity in the US and Europe, including regular meetings with American and European politicians.

South African police arrest four terrorist suspects
[SouthAfricaToday] South African police have incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
four people for suspected involvement in terror-related activities in the Johannesburg area, it was revealed on Sunday.

The arrests followed prolonged investigations by special anti-crime unit, the Hawks, and state security agencies, into possible terror related activities, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani said.

He did not identified the names of the suspects but said they are between 20 and 24-years-old.

Hangwani said the National Intervention Unit, the Bomb Squad and other law enforcement agencies aided in the arrests.

The four suspects were identified after they attempted to travel to Syria in 2015.

"Investigations showed they intended to join terrorist group ISIS," Hangwani told News24, a local news outlet.

The Hawks swooped on the suspects’ locations, seizing several items for analysis.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the enormous newt was trying to decide if Gloria was edible...
Hawks national head, Lieutenant General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, said the arrests were a "very big step forward in the fight against terrorism."

"But we cannot say that the problem has been solved. (These) terrorist organizations are recruiting in our country... law enforcement agencies will continue to work around the clock to prevent any form of recruitment on our soil," he was quoted as saying.

Ntlemeza said authorities would remain on high alert and diffuse any attempts to form any terrorist groups in the country.
The ANC simply deplores competition.
"Our people should also be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police," he said.

Last month, the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria said the U.S. government had received information that terrorist groups were planning to carry out near-term attacks against places where U.S. citizens congregate in South Africa, such as upscale shopping areas and malls in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

But the South African government downplayed the alert at that time, saying there is no need to panic.

The terror alert by the Americans was "sketchy, dubious and unsubstantiated," said Clayson Monyela, spokesperson of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

Bangladesh
JMB carried out Dhaka café and Sholakia attacks: IGP
The attacks at Gulshan cafe and Sholakia were carried out by militants of banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque said today.

After visiting the crime scene at Sholakia Eid prayer ground, IGP Shahidul told this to the reporters today, a correspondent from Kishoreganj reports. When asked about the involvement of Islamic State with the attacks, the IGP said IS claimed responsibilities of every attack wherever it took place. “We can't find any link as to why they do it".
At least they're blaming a terrorist group, which is more than US authorities can do...
Police were looking for the five Gulshan café attackers for a long time, the IGP said adding that the law enforcers had information about them. “They were JMB members,” IGP Shahidul said.

“We primarily found evidence of JMB’s link with the Sholakia attack,” the IGP said.
Except for the pictures of them standing in front of an ISIS flag and grinning like Islamic monkeys.
The injured person, who was detained in connection with Sholakia attack, admitted that they had contacted with the attackers of the Holey Artisan Bakery, the police chief added.

A case is likely to be filed later in the day in connection with the Sholakia attack that left four people dead on the Eid day (July 7), he informed. In the Sholakia attack, one attacker was killed and another was injured, he said.

Quoting the policemen who were during the attack, IGP Shahidul said, “Five to six men took part in the attack but several other persons might assist them. We are trying to detain them”.

The law enforcers did not have any information about the Sholakia attack, he replied when asked about any intelligence information. Police do not have any intelligence about the Sholakia attack but they were apprehending further attacks, the IGP added.

GULSHAN CAFÉ ATTACK

Gunmen killed 22 people including 17 foreigners and two policemen shortly after taking hostage a number of diners at the Spanish restaurants in Dhaka’s diplomatic zone on July 1. Six militants were also killed during the hostage crisis incident.

A day after the killing, Islamic State claimed responsibility of the attack in the Spanish restaurant, according to US-based SITE Intelligence Group.

SHOLAKIA EID CONGREGATION ATTACK

Four people, including two policemen, a woman and a suspected assailant, died in the attack near Sholakia Eidgah where hundreds of thousands had gathered for Eid congregation on Friday morning. The incident took place within a week of the Gulshan restaurant attack.

Coalition air strikes kill ISIS militants in Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Air strikes by US-led coalition warplanes and artillery fire from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
killed eight ISIS murderous Moslems in northern Syria, state-run Anadolu Agency cited the Turkish military as saying on Sunday.

Ten ISIS targets were hit in the strikes, which also destroyed one building used by the murderous Moslems as a base, the agency said.

It said Turkish army howitzers fired on the murderous Moslems as they were preparing to open fire on Turkey on Saturday from the areas of Baragitah, Tel Ahmar and Shabaniye in northern Syria.

Turkey and the coalition have carried out regular strikes against ISIS in the area in recent months after rocket attacks by the murderous Moslems on the Turkish border town of Kilis.

Kilis, just across the frontier from an ISIS-controlled region of Syria, has been hit by rockets more than 70 times this year. More than 20 people have been killed.

at least 29 Syrian rebels were killed in festivities with regime troops overnight during a failed bid to reopen the opposition’s key supply route into Aleppo city, a monitor said Sunday.

The fighters from the Faylaq al-Sham Islamist faction and al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra

Front were killed trying to reopen the Castello Road, which regime forces effectively severed on Thursday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

The road was the only remaining supply route into the opposition-held east of Aleppo city, which has been divided between government and rebel control since mid-2012.

Government forces effectively severed the route on Thursday when they seized a hilltop within firing range of the Castello Road.

The Observatory said there were deaths among government forces in the overnight fighting, but had no immediate toll.

"The attack has ended and the road remains completely closed," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.

Kurdish myrmidon kaboom on Turkish army outpost kills two
Kurdish murderous Moslems carried out a car kaboom on a military outpost in southeastern Turkey overnight, killing one soldier and a member of the state-sponsored village guard militia, security sources said on Sunday.

It was the second such attack within 12 hours in the mainly Kurdish region, showing no let-up in a conflict between the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) myrmidon group and the state which flared up a year ago when a two-year-old ceasefire collapsed.

Ten soldiers and five village guards were also maimed in the attack by PKK guerrillas which took place in the Ercis district of Van province at 00:20 am (2120 GMT), the sources said. The army launched an operation to catch the perpetrators.

Around midday on Saturday a kaboom on a similar military installation in the province of Mardin bordering Syria killed two soldiers and a civilian and maimed dozens.

More than 40,000 people have been killed in the conflict since the PKK, designated a terrorist group by Turkey and its Western allies, and began its insurgency in 1984. Just in the last year, thousands of myrmidons, security force members and civilians have died.

Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Saturday that senior PKK commander Fehman Huseyin had been killed in a kaboom on a car in which he was travelling in northeast Syria. The report has not been confirmed.

Huseyin, a Syrian Kurd also known by the code name Bahoz Erdal, was killed on Friday evening as he travelled to the northern Syrian city of Qamishli, Anadolu said, citing a front man of a Syrian rebel group it named as the Tel Khamis Brigades.

Africa North
Heavy fighting continues in central Sirte
[Libya Herald] Fighting in Sirte today between Bunyan Marsous (BM) forces and IS gunmen continued with the BM operations room reporting that it had launched fresh air strikes while ground fire hit an IS ammunitions store in the centre of town. Other reports, however, say that seven BM troops were wounded near the Ouagadougou Centre.

Fighting near the symbolically important centre has been fierce over the past couple of days, as BM forces close in on IS fighters holed up there.

BM says that it has killed large numbers of IS forces – mainly, it claims, Tunisians and Sudanese. IS, however, was reported to have fired Grad missiles at a number of locations during the day including the first, second and third residential districts and the university campus.

BM has said that it expects the Ouagadougou Centre will fall this week.

Islamic State ‘caliphate’ said to shrink a further 12% in 2016
[IsraelTimes] In 18 months, jihadist group has lost a quarter of its territory in Iraq and Syria, British think tank says

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group lost 12 percent of the territory it holds in Iraq and Syria in the first half of 2016, according to an analysis by British think tank IHS.

The analysis published Sunday says the jihadist group, which proclaimed its self-styled "caliphate" in the two countries in 2014, is continuing to lose ground after a string of setbacks last year.

"In 2015, the Islamic State’s caliphate shrunk by 12,800 square kilometers to 78,000 square kilometers (30,000 square miles), a net loss of 14 percent," IHS said.

"In the first six months of 2016, that territory shrunk again by 12 percent. As of July 4, 2016, the Islamic State controls roughly 68,300 square kilometers in Iraq and Syria."

In Syria, IS is under pressure from regime troops backed by Russian forces, an Arab-Kurdish alliance backed by a US-led coalition, and rebel forces.

In Iraq, coalition-backed security forces, working with pro-government militia groups, have dealt the jihadists a series of defeats.

IS forces are currently under siege in the Syrian town of Minbej, which lies on their main supply route between Syria and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
In March the jihadists were routed from the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra and in June from the Iraqi city of Fallujah.

In 2015, the group lost Tal Abyad, a key border post on the Syrian-Turkish border, as well as the Iraqi city of Ramadi.

In May the Pentagon said that IS had lost some 45 percent of the territory it held in Iraq and between 16 and 20 percent of its territory in Syria.

The IHS report did not include percentages by country.

IHS senior analyst Columb Strack said the losses were likely to mean IS would redouble its attempts at "mass casualty attacks".

"As the Islamic State’s caliphate shrinks and it becomes increasingly clear that its governance project is failing, the group is reprioritizing insurgency," he said.

"We unfortunately expect an increase in mass casualty attacks and sabotage of economic infrastructure, across Iraq and Syria, and further afield, including Europe."

IS has also seen its revenues drop, from around $80 million a month in mid-2015 to $56 million a month by March 2016, according to IHS.

"This figure has probably continued to decrease since March by at least another 35 percent," said Ludovico Carlino, another senior analyst at IHS.

"Combined with the military setbacks on the ground, this is having an impact on the internal cohesion of the group as indicated by a marked increase in defections and desertions since January," he added.

Facing territorial losses and pressure, IS on Wednesday issued a video describing the "organization of the caliphate" in which it claimed control of 35 "wilayat" or provinces, including 19 in Syria and Iraq.

#4  ISIS is in the process of going from a territorial entity to an idea entity.

It seems self contradictory because without territory it is not a State but then Al Q doesn't have a base and still calls itself 'the base'.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh bans Zakir Naik's Peace TV, tracks students after attacks
[DAWN] Bangladesh government has ordered Islamic television station Peace TV to stop broadcasting and has told schools to report any missing students.

The station is run by Indian doctor-turned-preacher Zakir Naik, the founder and president of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation, and its programmes are aired from Dubai.

A Bangladesh cabinet committee decided to ban Peace TV from the country, information minister Hasanul Haq Inu told journalists Sunday.

The measures come after several suspected hard boyz were reported to be fans of the television channel, while others were found to be from elite universities but had been missing for months.

earlier in the day called on every school, college and university to "create a list of absent students and publish it".

Bangladesh has been reeling from dozens of attacks, mainly targeting secular activists or religious minorities.

"We will be rigorous," the premier said. "We must uproot militancy and terrorism from Bangladesh." Three of the alleged jihadists who participated in an attack on a Dhaka cafe last week, in which 20 hostages were murdered, attended top schools and universities in the Bangladeshi capital.

Bangladesh
Bogra terrorists’ families want bodies back
[Dhaka Tribune] The families of Shafiqul Islam Ujjal and Khairul Islam Payel, the two young men from Bogra who carried out the Gulshan terrorist attack, are waiting to bury their sons.

"I ask forgiveness from everyone for my son’s actions. I struggled hard to put him through school. I never imagined in my dreams that he would become a terrorist," Ujjal’s mother Asia Begum told news hounds at her home in Dhunat’s Baniajan Chalishpara village yesterday.

"And I beg for my son’s dead body," she added.

Ujjal and Payel are among the five bandidos murderous Moslems identified by police as attackers who took part in the Holey Artisan Bakery attack on July 1, slaughtering 20 people and holding 13 others hostage for around 12 hours.

Ujjal’s neighbours described him as a religious, honest and talented boy and said they were shocked by his violent actions.

The family had no idea how he had turned into an hard boy. A family member said Ujjal was the youngest of local farmer Badiuzzaman’s three sons. He graduated from Gosaibari Degree College in 2011 and began working at a kindergarten school in Ashulia, Dhaka.

He used to send money to the family every month and used to preach religion whenever he came home.

Asia Begum said Ujjal left home six months ago to attend a Chilla (a religious gathering) and then did not contact them again. On the morning of July 4, she recognised him from photos being shown on the TV. In the afternoon police took her elder son and husband to Dhaka to identify the body.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, Gloria slowly backed away from the eight-foot bull frog. If the creature croaked she would surely be deafened...
police officials said DNA samples had been collected from Ujjal’s father Badiuzzaman, brother Asadul Islam and Payel’s parents Abul Hossain and Piyara Begum.

Abul and Piyara were picked up by detective police from their home in Brikushtia Dakkhinpara village on July 3.

Dhunat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman said both families returned to Bogra from Dhaka before Eid.

On July 6, Bogra police identified one of the bandidos murderous Moslems involved in the Gulshan attack as Khairul Islam Payel, 20, a listed terrorist the police had been looking for. One of his known associates, JMB member Abdul Momin, was locked away

in April with an AK-22 rifle, the same weapon used in the Gulshan attack.

Payel passed his Dakhil exams in 2014 from Bihigram DU Central Fazil Madrasa. Ujjal on the other hand graduated from a local degree college and was teaching at a school.

The Grand Turk
Turkish military strikes ISIS, PKK targets
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Turkish jets and artillery struck 10 ISIS targets as they were preparing to fire on The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, the country's General Staff said Sunday.

US-led coalition jets and Turkish howitzers hit ISIS rocket and mortar batteries stationed in north Syria's Dabik region late Saturday night. Eight bandidos forces of Evil were reportedly killed in the operation, the General Staff said.

ISIS has recently stepped up its attacks against Turkey, with a suicide kaboom late last month at Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport which killed dozens and injured hundreds.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, the fiddler suddenly struck a sour note. The dancing stopped abruptly. Everyone looked at Bob...
Turkish jets also struck seven Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, targets in Turkey's southeastern province of Hakkari.

Airstrikes regularly target PKK positions in Turkey and northern Iraq, while fighting and curfews continue in several southeastern towns.

On Sunday, a roadside kaboom in the Semdinli district of Hakkari killed five soldiers, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency, which blamed the attack on PKK rebels.
