Therapy dog becomes first in TN to accompany child sex abuse victim in trial
COOKEVILLE, TN (WSMV) - It takes a strong person to tackle life’s challenges head on, and sometimes even the strongest need help from a friend.

One hero is an unlikely friend to dozens of children faced with one of life’s most difficult situations.

In a small office on Highway 70 in Cookeville, a team of therapists have been working with child sex abuse victims for 13 years.

This is often the first place a child will come after the abuse is reported. The child will undergo a medical examination, a forensic interview and therapy.

"We’re asking children to talk about a sexual experience that’s way beyond their years," said Jennifer Wilkerson. "It’s very uncomfortable."

Wilkerson is the founder and executive director of the Upper Cumberland Child Advocacy Center.

"We do a lot to provide support for victims emotionally and physically, but we saw some kids just needed something a little extra," said Wilkerson.

She had heard of therapists using dogs to comfort victims and decided to apply for one. After a lengthy application and training process, she added the newest member to her team, Murch.

"Feeling like you have someone there for you, even if it is an animal, it makes it so much easier," said a victim, who we are not identifying.

The victim has been working with Murch for two years.

"Murch really has the ability to work with kids and provide comfort to them and help them find their words when they’re not able to find themselves," said Wilkerson.

"With my sessions, I get really scared and nervous and I have really bad anxiety, so just petting him, him being next to me, it comforts me and it calms me down," said a victim.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg yaps on, calls Trump a 'faker'
(CNN) Washington: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's well-known candor was on display in her chambers late Monday, when she declined to retreat from her earlier criticism of Donald Trump and even elaborated on it.
Yes, I got a whiff of it as well. I think it's desperation.
"He is a faker," she said of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, going point by point, as if presenting a legal brief. "He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego. ... How has he gotten away with not turning over his tax returns? The press seems to be very gentle with him on that."
"Consistency"...Ag! Someone jot that down for her Dayan Emet.
Ginsburg's comments came in a previously scheduled interview related to my research for a book on Chief Justice John Roberts. I took a detour to raise the reverberations from her criticism of Trump to The Associated Press and The New York Times in recent interviews. "I can't imagine what this place would be -- I can't imagine what the country would be -- with Donald Trump as our president," she had said in the Times interview published Monday.

Trump declines invite to NAACP convention
(CNN) Washington: Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will not be speaking at the NAACP Annual Convention in Ohio next week, the civil rights organization's president and CEO said Tuesday.

After days of speculation, NAACP's Cornell William Brooks told CNN that Trump had declined the group's invitation to address its members in Cincinnati at their conference, which is being held this weekend.

Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, is scheduled to speak, Brooks told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room."

"Mr. Trump has declined our invitation, so we will hear from Sec. Clinton," Brooks said. "Namely, the explanation given was that (the Republicans) are holding their convention at the same time. We are, of course, in Cincinnati, they are in Cleveland. We were hoping he would make the short trip from Cleveland to Cincinnati."

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump's decision to skip the event represents a change of course from previous Republican presidential candidates, with 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney addressing the 103rd NAACP annual convention in Texas.
Mr. Trump begins a trend which should be permanently sustained.
Brooks said he was disappointed by Trump's announcement, saying it was a missed opportunity for the real estate mogul to respond to recent problems between law enforcement and the African-American community.

Robber with AK-47 shot by Waffle House customer, DeSoto police say
[Dallas Morning News] DeSoto police are hoping the public can help them identify the suspect in an aggravated robbery at a Waffle House last week.

About 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the Waffle House in the 1500 block of North Beckley Avenue, where they found a man shot in the parking lot.

Customers told police that the man had come into the restaurant, armed with an AK-47, and robbed numerous people as well as the business.

One customer, who was legally carrying a concealed handgun, followed the robber into the parking lot because he was afraid for the safety of his wife, who was on her way to the Waffle House.

The customer called out to the robber, who turned and pointed the rifle at him, police said. The customer then shot the robber several times.

The robbery suspect was taken to a hospital, where he is on life support.

Plot to murder Baton Rouge police uncovered.
[Right Scoop] Baton Rouge police reportedly just foiled a Dallas-style plot to kill police officers in Baton Rouge, the Louisiana city where Alton Sterling was shot by police last week.

According to CBS News, three people, including one juvenile, were arrested in a plan to use stolen firearms from a Baton Rouge - area pawn shop to kill officers during protests -- which have been sweeping the city -- in response to the Sterling shooting. At least eight guns were stolen from Cash America pawn shop over the weekend. Federal agents raided a Baton Rouge home late Monday and recovered six of the stolen weapons. Two are reportedly still missing.

During a press conference Tuesday, officials said they were aware of a "credible" threat to officers, and it's one of the reasons police wore riot and protective gear during protests over the past few nights.

FBI to turn Clinton emails over to State Dept.
[Wash Times] The FBI said Tuesday it will turn over to the State Department thousands of work-related secret emails it recovered from Hillary Clinton's email server, which the former secretary failed to turn into the government when she left office.

In a letter, FBI General Counsel James A. Baker said now that they've closed their investigation, the emails will be shipped back to the State Department to be handled according to federal law. That means they could also be released under the Freedom of Information Act.

Yes, technically they could be released under FOIA, but Foggy Bottom is conducting it's own internal investigation, so there could be some....delays. Had they remained at the Bureau, where the investigation has been completed, well, yes of course. The original records belong in the Library of Congress or NARA (National Archives and Records Administration) as appropriate. My emphasis in the last para.

Police Walk Off Job After WNBA Players Wear Black Lives Matter T-Shirts at Game
[Gateway Pundit] Off duty police officers walked of the job on Saturday after the Minnesota Lynx WNBA players showed up wearing Black Lives Matter T-Shirts.

This came after five police officers were shot dead in Dallas on Thursday at a Black Lives Matter protest.

A police union official says four off-duty Minneapolis officers working a WNBA game walked off the job at the city’s Target Center arena Saturday after Minnesota Lynx players wore pregame warm-up jerseys supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

The shirts listed the names of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, both fatally shot by police officers last week. Castile was killed by a police officer in suburban St. Paul during a traffic stop. The shirt also showed the Dallas police shield above the phrase "Black Lives Matter."

Minneapolis Police Federation President Bob Kroll tells the Minneapolis Star-Tribune he commends the officers. He says they took their names off a list of officers to work future games.

[PJ] Cleveland Browns running back Isaiah Crowell apologized Monday for posting an Instagram illustration of a police officer having his throat slit by a hooded figure.
Crowell removed the image shortly after posting it.

The post's caption read: "They give police all types of weapons and they continually choose to kill us....#Weak"

UK scientists are trying to grow military drones in a lab with advanced chemistry and 3D printing
I was alarmed when I first read this, as it sounded like they were using quasi-genetic material, which would then be sent to be blown up and scattered across the countryside. A terrible idea to say the least. On reflection it sounds more akin to 3D printing.
More often than not, some of the most cutting edge technology comes not from Silicon Valley, but from military companies and various branches of the armed forces. With generous budgets at their disposal, it’s hardly a surprise that grandiose research projects involving items like stealth motorcycles and drones that can both fly and swim are often rooted in military research.

That said, the following research initiative is a bit outlandish even for military standards. Over the past few days, word emerged that two military-backed defense companies based out of Scotland and England are currently working on technology that appears to be a wacky, futuristic and intriguing marriage between advanced chemistry and 3D printing.

The two companies involved are BAE Systems and Cronin Group PLC, and according to Defense Tech, the joint effort is geared towards developing technology that can grow unmanned aircraft and "some of their complex electronic systems, conceivably from a molecular level upwards," all within a matter of weeks no less.

Does this sound crazy and exceptionally vague? Sure, but the research, no matter how ambitious and out-there it may be, is very real. The ability to quickly create uniquely capable miniaturized drones for mission-specific tasks would of course help military units undertake various missions when their current fleet of aircraft or drones are deemed either unsuitable for the task at hand or not at the ready.

And at the center of this research is a machine called Chemputer which, relying upon advanced chemical processes, would theoretically be able to grow armies of attack and surveillance drones.

Lee Cronin, founding scientific director at Cronin and also a professor at the University of Glasgow, said they have been developing means "to digitize synthetic and materials chemistry," with the aim of assembling complex machines -- inside a machine -- "from the bottom up, or with minimal human assistance."

The same technology also could be used to produce multi-functional parts for larger manned aircraft, he said, though BAE and Cronin appear to be promoting the futuristic alchemy as a means of producing small, customized and incredibly fast unmanned aerial vehicles.

"This is a very exciting time in the development of chemistry," Cronin said on BAE’s website. "We have been developing routes to digitize synthetic and materials chemistry and at some point in the future hope to assemble complex objects in a machine from the bottom up, or with minimal human assistance. Creating small aircraft would be very challenging but I’m confident that creative thinking and convergent digital technologies will eventually lead to the digital programming of complex chemical and material systems."

Iran, France to cooperate on nuclear fusion project

Iran and La Belle France have agreed to cooperate on the multi-national nuclear fusion project known as ITER, the front man of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said on Tuesday.

The announcement comes a year after Iran struck a nuclear deal with six world powers led by the United States to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions.

Behrouz Kamalvandi told Mehr and Fars news agencies that Iranian officials have "reached a general understanding with the French side for joint cooperation" on the project.

Mehr and Fars said that Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, visited the headquarters of ITER at the end of June.

Salehi was one of Iran’s key negotiators in the nuclear deal with Britannia, China, La Belle France, Germany, Russia and the United States on July 14 last year.

ITER, which means "the way" in Latin, is the acronym for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor which is being built in the south of La Belle France.

The unique project was launched in 1985 with dozens of countries collaborating with La Belle France "on the first fusion device to produce net energy" according to ITER’s website.

It said that other project members include China, the European Union

#6  Putin has very quietly rebuilt his ground forces over the last ten years. He moved the political officers out and placed war fighters loyal to him in power. His neglect of the Navy I had read as his desire to focus on the border states only. While I still hold his intentions are to regain control of the border states, his firing on the naval officers shows, to me anyway, that his next step is to rebuild his Navy so he can have a better global reach. While this seems to be a no brainer, if we have a few more years of the Obama crap-meaning Hillary, we will be outgunned both on land and at sea. Currently we do not have the ground forces required to fight the Russians, even if all our forces were sitting in Europe right now. In 5 years the Russian will be the dominant force on this planet.

Rebels launch major assault in Aleppo
[Emirates27] Rebel fighters launched a major assault on government-held districts of Syria's long-divided Aleppo on Monday, after the regime severed their only remaining supply route into the battleground city.

Once Syria's economic powerhouse, Aleppo has been ravaged by the war that began with anti-government protests in 2011 and which has since killed more than 280,000 people.

Rebels launched the offensive at dawn to reopen the Castello Road, their last lifeline into the northern city, an AFP correspondent said.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 19 regime forces were killed Monday when rebels blew up a tunnel in the Old City.

Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said: "The opposition has not advanced because of the heavy aerial bombardment the regime is carrying out on the areas where fighting is underway."

Air raids on the rebel-held parts of Aleppo killed 13 civilians Monday, the Observatory said, most of them in the Bab al-Maqam neighbourhood near the front line.

An AFP journalist saw rescue workers help a stocky, shirtless man out of the rubble in Bab al-Maqam, his face and thick beard caked in dust.

The unidentified man entered a field hospital and embraced the limp bodies of two young boys. "He was martyred. He's gone," he said crying over the body of one them.

Several rounds of UN-brokered talks to end the conflict have failed, but the UN's special envoy Staffan de Mistura said Monday that a "crucial moment" had been reached in efforts to secure a political settlement.

But despite the diplomatic flurry, fighting has intensified in Aleppo, divided between government forces in the west and rebels in the east since mid-2012.

About the kindest thing I've heard about the honorable James Comey was suggested by Bill Whittle and that was that Comey might be like a Viet POW who tries to signal clandestinely that he is being used for propaganda purposes by the enemy. He further suggested that Comey knew that the DOJ was never going to indict Hillary. Whittle said Comey knew the only way anything could be done about the email/security debacle was through Congress. Barack Hussein Obama told us months ago there was nothing to see in the Benghazi hearings or Hillary's email server investigation. The people in this country end up getting hosed.

US Capitol Briefly Locked Down, 2nd Time in Week
[ABCNEWS.GO] The U.S. Capitol and its office buildings were briefly locked down Tuesday, the second time in a week amid nervousness over recent shootings.

District of Columbia police spokeswoman Alice Kim said officers were alerted to a man with a gun near Fort McNair in Southwest Washington, about a mile and a half south of the Capitol, shortly after 4 p.m. Officers then stopped a person at the intersection of 1st and D Streets, Northwest, which is two blocks from the Capitol and outside the Labor Department, Kim said.

No shots were fired, she said.

The Capitol lockdown began at 4:20 p.m. and the all clear was given over a loudspeaker at 4:45 p.m. Police had sent an email to congressional staff advising them to close and lock doors and stay away from external doors and windows.

Both the House and Senate were in session, with House members voting. In the Senate, politicians were delivering speeches from the floor.

Zika vaccine clinical trials in 12 months
[AlAhram] An Austrian biotech company working with the Institut Pasteur said on Tuesday it planned to start clinical trials with an experimental Zika vaccine in the next 12 months, marking a further acceleration of research in the field.

Themis Bioscience has signed a license deal with the French research institute giving it extensive rights to the Zika vaccine candidate, which is based on established measles vaccine technology.

More than a dozen small biotech firms and other organizations are working on vaccines against mosquito-borne Zika, which has been linked to birth defects and neurological disorders, although most work is at a very early stage.

Erich Tauber, chief executive of Themis, believes his company's project will benefit from the proven track record behind the technology used to immunize against measles.

French drugmaker Sanofi, the only big drugmaker working on a Zika shot, last week struck a deal with the U.S. Army to speed up the development of another vaccine, which should be ready for testing on humans in October.

Global health officials are racing to better understand the Zika virus, which has caused a major outbreak that began in Brazil last year and has spread to many countries in the Americas.

The World Health Organization has said there is strong scientific consensus that Zika is a cause of the birth defect microcephaly, or small heads in babies, as well as Guillain-Barre syndrome, a neurological disorder.

Israel warns UN: Hezbollah has 120,000 missiles aimed at us
[JPOST] Hezbollah possesses 17 times the number of missiles it did 10 years ago when UN Security Council Resolution 1701 was adopted at the end of the Second Lebanon War, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon told the Council Tuesday.

Hezbollah now has “more missiles below ground in Lebanon than the European NATO allies have above ground,” Danon said as he presented recent IDF intelligence about the terrorist organization to the Security Council, including aerial photographs revealing Hezbollah positions and statistics about the organization’s weapons stockIsrael warns UN: Hezbollah has 120,000 missiles aimed at uspiles.

Hezbollah now possesses about 120,000 missiles, compared to 7,000 10 years ago, Danon said.

The Israeli mission to the UN told The Jerusalem Post the intelligence was classified and cleared by the IDF especially for use by Danon during the meeting.

Tuesday’s meeting – which discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the conditions in Lebanon a decade after Resolution 1701 – called for “the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon, so that there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese State.”

As he presented the new intelligence to the Council’s members, Danon said: “When the war ended, this Council pledged that Hezbollah would no longer be allowed to threaten Israel and hold the people of Lebanon hostage.

“I have the unfortunate task of informing this Council that 10 years later, the situation has gone from bad to worse. The government of Lebanon never stopped Hezbollah, and Hezbollah never stopped its military buildup,” he said.

32 ISIS Bad Guys join the Choir Invisible near Aleppo
[ARA News] ALEPPO – At least 32 militant fighters from the Islamic State (ISIS) were killed and dozens more wounded in renewed clashes with the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern countryside of Aleppo, military sources reported on Tuesday.

The Kurdish-led SDF troops clashed with ISIS militants in the Hazawna district and al-Sharia roundabout in Manbij city of northern Aleppo, where the SDF pushed ISIS back into the city centre.

“Daesh militants were trying to recapture the Hazawna district from our forces, but we were able to repel the attack after killing and wounding dozens of terrorists,” a spokesman for the SDF told ARA News, using another abbreviation for ISIS.

“After the group’s withdrawal from the clashes area, we have collected corpses of 32 militants, and dozens more were wounded,” the official said, adding that scores of the injured ISIS fighters were taken as hostages by the SDF.

The SDF spokesman in Manbij also told ARA News that since the start of the Manbij operation on 31 May, ISIS has used more than 150 car bombs in attacks on the US-backed SDF troops, beside planting dozens of landmines in the vicinity of the city in a bid to impede the SDF advance.

On Monday, the SDF troops clashed with ISIS fighters in the Sabaa Bahrat neighbourhood of Manbij city, north of Aleppo. ISIS has reportedly retreated from the neighbourhood after suffering heavy losses in manpower and equipment.

The ISIS security chief Safi Yahya Rajab was also killed in Monday’s clashes.

“Our forces advanced into the Hazawna neighbourhood of Manbij and attacked a major security centre for the terror group. Yahiya was among those killed in the Hazawna operation,” an SDF official told ARA News.

“After the clashes, we seized control of the Sabaa Bahrat and Hazawna districts, and we collected more than 25 dead bodies of ISIS militants, including that of Yahiya, who was known as the security chief of ISIS in Manbij,” the official said.

Pakistanis among 9 killed in Afghan Air Force raids in Nangarhar
At least 9 Taliban insurgents were killed during airstrikes conducted by the Afghan Air Force in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

According to the local officials, the airstrikes were carried out in Khogyani district targeting the militants in Pira Khel, Morgi, and Zhora areas.

The officials further added that five militants were also wounded during the airstrikes and various types of weapons, ammunition and explosives belonging to the Taliban insurgents were destroyed.

A number of the Pakistani militants were also among those killed, the officials said, adding that the local residents and security forces did not suffer any casualties.

According to the officials, the Afghan Air Force started targeting the militants from afternoon on Monday.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the insurgent groups are actively operating a number of the remote districts of Nangarhar province.

The Afghan forces have stepped up counter-terrorism operations against the militant groups amid deteriorating security situation in the country.

(IraqiNEws.com) Mosul- A security source in Mosul informed on Monday that a dozen families from Mosul, escaping the wrath of ISIS left their homes and arrived at those areas which are controlled by Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

Sharing details about the escape the source seeking anonymity said, “Families from areas in Mosul, which are still under ISIS control, continue to risk their lives and escape the grip of the terror outfit in search of better and safer places. And adding to this number, today around 50 families recently reached safer areas controlled by Kurdish Peshmerga forces as they risked their lives and fled Mosul from the areas that are still under ISIS control.”

“On their arrival, they went through the regular security checks and drills,” the source added.

It may be mentioned here that since the beginning of operations to liberate areas south of Mosul, people are continuously escaping the IS-ruled areas and are seeking refuge at areas under Peshmerga forces’ control.

ISIS executes 4 in Ninevah

(IraqiNews.com) Mosul- A source informed on Tuesday that four doctors in Nineveh were executed by ISIS members on early Monday morning.

“The doctors, who were executed by the ISIS, have apparently refused to go to the battlefront and treat injured ISIS members. The bodies were later handed over to the forensic department in Mosul,” the source added.

Dutch woman escapes from ISIS-held Mosul

[AlArabiya] A Dutch woman has surrendered to Kurdish Peshmerga fighters near the ISIS-held city of Mosul in northern Iraq, saying she had been trying to escape the “hell” she was living in “all the time.”

Laura Angela Hansen told Kurdistan 24 television that her father helped her escape with her two children - four-year-old Iman and Abdullah, one. She gave no details.

Born in 1995 in the Netherlands, she said her husband, who is Dutch of Palestinian origin, had told her he was taking her on a “vacation” when they entered ISIS-held areas in Syria. She lived for several months in Raqqa, de facto capital of the “Caliphate,” before they moved to Mosul.

“I didn’t want to come to Syria ... without me knowing. He pushed me,” she said.

MQM claims party leader abducted by Rangers
KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday accused the Sindh Rangers of “abducting” a senior party member from Gulburg area of the metropolis without “any provision of warrant”.

In a statement, MQM claimed that Izhar Uddin Ahmed Khan, 55, was reportedly arrested when he went visit Sindh lawmaker Abdul Haseeb.

“Izhar was abducted by Rangers’ personnel who then moved him in an unmarked vehicle,” said MQM leader Wasay Jalil.

The party statement said “we fear for the safety of Izhar Ahmed who was abducted Rangers’ personnel this afternoon. We are concerned because that no warrant was provided and his current whereabouts remain unknown.”

The MQM called upon the lawful authorities to ensure the safety of Izhar Khan.

The party lawmakers claimed that their calls to Rangers’ headquarters in Karachi to inquire about the whereabouts of Izhar Khan remained unanswered.

Izhar Khan is a member of Central Coordination Committee and is based in the party’s London head office.

He was visiting Karachi to see his extended family members and has been nominated for the post of District Mayor, Karachi West.

“Izhar Khan holds British nationality as well and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British High Commission in Islamabad have been informed about his disappearance,” the party said.

Turkey jails 7 more in Istanbul airport attack
ISTANBUL: A Turkish court has jailed seven suspects pending trial on terrorism charges over last month’s triple suicide bombing at Istanbul’s main airport, bringing the number in custody to 37, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The attack at Ataturk Airport killed 45 people and wounded hundreds, the deadliest in a series of bombings this year in Turkey.

The seven suspects were detained on charges of “membership of an armed terrorist group” and being accomplices to murder, Anadolu said. The private Dogan news agency said all seven were foreign nationals.

Media reports have said at least 11 of those detained were Russian.
Meanwhile, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has defended his plan to give Syrian refugees Turkish citizenship, arguing there was ample space in the country after a backlash against the suggestion, in comments published Monday.

Erdogan said on July 2 that Syrians could eventually be granted Turkish citizenship “if they want it,” in remarks which were met with anger from opposition politicians and social media users.

More than 2.7 million Syrian refugees now live in Turkey, where they have guest status, according to the Turkish government.

In his first comments on the issue since announcing the plan, the president said if Syrians had dual citizenship it did not mean they had to return to Syria once the conflict was over.

“Is it a must for dual citizens, for people with citizenship, to return to their countries of birth?” he told Turkish reporters on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Warsaw, quoted by the Hurriyet daily.
“When Turks went to Germany in 1963, no one asked whether they would or would not return to Turkey,” he said, referring to the Turkish so-called Gastarbeiter who helped Germany’s economic recovery after World War II.

He added: “There is no need to worry, this country has 79 million people living on 780,000 sq. km of land. “Germany is half our size and has 85 million people,” he added, lightly overstating the German population. “We are a country that can easily overcome (challenges).”

The president even suggested that empty homes built by the state housing agency could be used to house Syrians. “Most of these Syrians work illegally.

“What we’re saying is there needs to be a solution. Among these people, there are doctors, engineers, lawyers, health workers, teachers, all of these people can benefit our country: they can be given citizenship,” Erdogan added.

Security Situation in Baghlan Stalled, say Officials
Long battles and heavy casualties suffered by both the security forces and insurgents, have led to a situation where military operations in the province have stalled, say Baghlan officials.

"The Government has suffered heavy losses to its security personnel and equipment in the war in Baghlan. The enemy has also suffered high casualties in the battles. Now, we do not have the ability [to move forward] and to strengthen our outposts," said Noor Habib Gulbahari, Baghlan police chief.

He accepted that the security forces only control the highways and main roads in Baghlan.

"The Dand-e-Ghori and Dand-e-Shahabuddin areas in Baghlan are now under the control of the enemy and that situation will continue until we start our military operations to retake them. We have only control over main roads, and that's it," he added.

The situation has alarmed the residents of Baghlan.

"Our demand is that they [the security forces] should be fully operational. They should not let Baghlan to face the fate of Kunduz. The security forces should be well prepared," said Baghlan resident Daud.

Another resident of Bghlan, Samiullah, said the National Unity Government officials "are just thinking about their own benefits. There is no security in our province. We are concerned about this."

This comes after Baghlan residents expected a large-scale military operation in the province to eliminate terrorists and ensure its security. That crackdown is yet to materialize.

Offensive against Iranian Convoy Takes Down High-Ranking Officials, Kurdistan
[Asharq al-Aswat] Kurdistan Freedom Falcons’ military wing, standing in opposition of Iranian Kurdistan regime, recently announced that its fighters had led an offensive against a convoy including Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers and other regime officials. The convoy was reportedly heading towards Kermanshah and Elam ‐two cities bordering Iraq.

The offensive resulted in the death of two IRGC officers and the injury of four others among which was Hashmatullah Flaan Bisha, MP at the Iranian parliament.

One of the Falcons’ military commanders, in a phone interview with Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, said that the attack was followed a meeting convened at the Zafar base which falls under Quds Force directory in the Kermanshah district.

Quds Force is a subdivision operating under IRGC commandership, and is usually missioned beyond Iranian territory.

The meeting was attended by Hashmatullah Flaan Bisha along with a number of IRGC security and military officials assigned to recruit ISIS and other terror group newcomers and then transfer them to Iraq.

The commander revealed that the meeting lasted for two whole hours and during which it was decided to carry on training and arming ISIS prospects on Iranian land, and to deploy larger numbers to Iraq.

The commander further disclosed on the late Iranian MP, attachés and officials were headed to see off a group ISIS recruits ready for dispatch right after the meeting was concluded, which was the same time the offensive was launched.

The convoy was headed to the Ryzav area, which is located midway between Kermanshah and Elam.

It also weakens and tends to discredit the Sunni population of Iraq, some of which is under ISIS control and some of which is occupied in fighting against ISIS, and hence unable to oppose Irani influence in the country, as it might otherwise do.

Trial begins for Virginia, Washington women accused of fundraising for Al Qaeda affiliate

, Hinda Osman Dhirane began her trial with an unusual admission: she is an ardent Al-Shabaab supporter.

Dhirane's attorney, federal public defender Paula Deutsch, began her opening statement Monday reading parts of a poem Dhirane had written as an ode to Al-Shabaab fighters.

"We make no bones about the fact she was a supporter of Al-Shabaab," an Al Qaeda affiliate centered in Somalia that grabbed credit for the 2013 attack on the Westgate Mall in Kenya that killed 67 people, among other attacks, Deutsch said.

"But it's talk. It doesn't prove that she necessarily provided substantial assistance to Al-Shabaab."

Prosecutors, though, say Dhirane, 46, of Kent, Wash., and Muna Osman Jama, 36, of Reston, Va., did more than just talk about supporting Al-Shabaab.

The two were charged in 2014 with funneling small amounts of money -- less than $5,000 -- to Al-Shabaab fundraisers. Even small amounts of money in U.S. dollars can provide significant buying power in Somalia for weapons and the like, prosecutors said.

Prosecutor Danya Atiyeh said in her opening statement that the women sought to hide the payments in remittances that members of the Somali diaspora regularly send back to their homeland.

The remittances, she said, "make an ideal cover for disguising money," Atiyeh said. She quoted Jama from an online conversation in 2012; "If you work with the women and pretend that you are supporting your family, can the infidels and the animals who work with them find out what is in your heart?"

Notorious Taliban commander dead in Logar raid, 13 held

Explosion in Taliban commander’s house leaves 1 dead, 4 wounded

At least one person was killed and four others were wounded in an explosion in Farah province located in western part of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the incident took place in Bala Bolok district in Mullah Khaliq’s residence.

According to a statement by MoD, the militants were busy making an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when the explosives went off prematurely.

No further details were given regarding the incident and it is yet not clear if the Taliban commander was among those killed or wounded.

The Taliban insurgents frequently use Improvised Explosive Device as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces but in majority of such attacks the Afghan civilians are targeted.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan released its latest civilian casualties report in mid-April this year, stating at least 600 civilians were killed and 1,343 others were wounded in the first quarter of 2016.

According to the UN mission, it documented 1,943 civilian casualties (600 deaths and 1,343 injured) in the period between 1 January and 31 March 2016, adding that these figures mark an overall increase in civilian casualties of two per cent compared to the same period in 2015 with a 13 per cent decrease in deaths but an 11 per cent increase in injuries.

UNAMA further added that consistent with 2015 trends, ground engagements caused the highest number of total civilian casualties, followed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs), complex and suicide attacks, as well as targeted killings.

Two Egyptian policemen killed by roadside bomb in North Sinai: Interior ministry
[AlAhram] A roadside kaboom killed two Egyptian coppers on Tuesday in North Sinai, according to the interior ministry.

Two other police personnel and a conscript were maimed in the bombing that hit a passing police patrol in the scenic provincial capital of Al-Arish, the ministry added in a statement.

Last month, the army said its ground, air and naval forces had killed 22 bully boyz in parts of North Sinai as part of the ongoing counter-terrorism operation.

On Monday, a roadside kabooming in North Sinai also killed two coppers.

Cleveland: CWRU drastically cutting operations during convention
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Case Western Reserve University, under fire by students and faculty for housing police on campus during the Republican National Convention, has decided to hold no classes, summer camps or other activities on campus from July 18-21.

The action, announced late Monday, was taken to ease ongoing concerns over housing 1,700 police officers and 200 members of the Ohio National Guard during the four-day event.

Students wanted the university to require the officers to store their weapons off campus, for the officers to stay out of university-owned buildings that aren't their assigned residence halls, and for the university to provide alternative housing for students uncomfortable with the increased police presence.

CWRU posted an online notice last night "... our city soon will host the Republican National Convention, an event that is expected to draw dozens of protests‐and could see a significant degree of conflict."

One commenter to this news article urged the CWRU president to get rid of all law enforcement officers of whatever kind on campus, i.e."Let the students fend for themselves so they will get to see what their campus life will be like. Call the janitor when your mugged walking across campus at night. Call the cafeteria lady when your car is broken into. Call the hvac technician when you get robbed."

Iranian military boats veer dangerously close to US warship
Boats from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps maneuvered dangerously close to a U.S. military vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, part of a pattern that the top American general in the region—who was on the ship at the time—said risked grave miscalculation.

“What concerns me is our people don’t always have a lot of time to deal with those interactions,” said Gen. Joe Votel, head of U.S. Central Command, as he stood on the bridge of the amphibious ship later in the day. “It’s measured in minutes to really have the opportunity to make the right decision.”

The five Iranian boats included four small patrol craft and a larger boat called a Houdong fast-attack craft. At least one of the patrol boats was equipped with a .50 caliber machine gun and what is known as a multiple rail rocket launcher. They came within several hundred yards of the American ship.

The series of encounters on Monday took place as the New Orleans sailed in international waters through the strait. Gen. Votel, on a swing through the Middle East this week, voiced concern about how quickly such an encounter could turn lethal for the ship, which was carrying about 700 Marines.

The encounters might have been considered more dramatic if they weren’t so common. American Navy ships reported about 300 incidents with Iranian vessels during 2015, according to data provided by the Navy’s Fifth Fleet. Most of those “interactions,” as the Navy calls them, are considered safe or don’t rise to the level of harassment, according to Navy officials.

Navy officials essentially grade Iranian naval behavior on a curve. They said that the way the Iranians behave typically, even when they don’t actually harass American warships, is still not the way most professional navies behave at sea.

The IRGC’s routine actions in the region force American warships to have to determine just what their intent is, said one officer here.

“It’s very common for them to come up to within 300, 500 yards of us, and then they’ll turn, or parallel us and stop,” said Lt. Forrest Griggs, the New Orleans’s operations officer. “We try not to become accustomed to that because we don’t want to become complacent.”

Navy officials maintain they always navigate through the international waters of the strait—through which a third of all seaborne oil and other energy products are shipped—and Gen. Votel said the U.S. isn’t trying to provoke Iran with such operations.

Habibur Rehman, in his mid-thirties, did not appear to be the victim of a sectarian killing, the SP said, adding that the body had been shifted to Memon Hospital.

Oh my: Federal judge rules Virginia delegates aren’t bound by state law requiring them to vote for Trump
[HOTAIR] Virginia can’t require Republican National Convention delegates to back Donald Trump, a federal judge in Richmond said Monday, though he made no ruling on whether the party can itself bind its delegates.
Following that logic, there's no reason for a primary.
U.S. District Judge Robert Payne said the Virginia state law requiring delegates who oppose Mr. Trump to vote for him next week at the party’s convention creates “a severe burden” on First Amendment rights.

But Judge Payne explicitly avoided weighing in on whether Republican National Committee rules requiring convention delegates to follow the results of their states as dictated by state and national party rules. Judge Payne said he “lacks jurisdiction to adjudicate” the broader unbinding question.

Like Trump or not, if the GOP fails to select him it will mark the end of the GOP, and probably the republic as we know it. This is not sky is falling silliness. A tribunal ruled in a sweeping decision Tuesday that China has no legal basis for its vast claims in the South China Sea and had aggravated the seething regional dispute with its extensive construction of artificial islands that destroyed coral reefs and infringed on the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.

China immediately rejected the arbitration findings, and their impact remained unclear as there is no policing agency or mechanism to enforce them.

US signs first historical military agreement with Kurds to fight ISIS

[ARA News] ERBIL – In an unprecedented step, the US has signed an agreement with the Kurdish government in northern Iraq to give military and financial support to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

Before the arrival of ISIS in August 2014, the Kurdish Peshmerga troops were forced to rely on old military equipment, and were prevented from buying military equipment from outside Iraq.

Now, the Peshmerga forces are one of the main partners for the US-led coalition, and receive weapons and ammunition from several coalition members, including the United States.

On Tuesday, Iraqi Kurdistan’s President Masoud Barzani received a United States military delegation headed by Ms. Elissa Slotkin, the acting assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs.

This meeting was followed by a telephone conversation between President Barzani and Mr. Ashton Carter, the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

“President Barzani and Ms. Slotkin discussed the liberation of Mosul and the status of the preparations and readiness from the U.S., Iraqi and Kurdistan Region perspectives,” the Kurdistan Region Presidency said in a statement.

“President Barzani focused on the importance and urgency of the liberation of Mosul and used the opportunity to reiterated his position of the extreme importance of planning for post-liberation Mosul,” the statement added.

Reportedly, Slotkin suggested that the Peshmerga forces will play an essential role in the fight in Mosul in the future.

In March, two Kurdish Peshmerga brigades received full equipment from the United States Army for the first time, in order to prepare them for the battle of Mosul–main bastion for the Islamic State radical group in Iraq. The equipment included helmets, body armor vests, anti-chemical protection equipment, medical equipment and M16 rifles.

Moreover, in April, the United States provided $415 million to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces after their salaries were cut due to the economic crisis, and the refusal of Baghdad to pay salaries of the Peshmergas.

Kurdish officials see the agreement as recognition of the sacrifices of Peshmerga forces in the war on ISIS.

Speaking to ARA News, official spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Safeen Dizayee said: “It’s a recognition, appreciation and value of Peshmergas’ sacrifices, and a contribution to stability and defence of liberty, democracy and humanity.”

On Monday, John Kirby, the spokesperson for the US State Department said that the United States “recognize the service, the sacrifice, the courage, the bravery, the skill on the battlefield that the Peshmerga have demonstrated every single day.”

“And we’re mindful of the toll that this fight has taken up in the north and the significant role that the Kurdish Regional Government has played in terms of trying to deal with it as well. That’s why, when you see [US-led coalition envoy] Brett McGurk traveling to the region, he never fails to stop in Erbil and have discussions with KRG representatives,” he said.

“Due to the current financial crisis and troubled relations between KRG and the central Iraqi government it has become impossible for KRG to fund its war against ISIS,” Ceng Sagnic, a researcher with the Tel Aviv-based Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies told ARA News.

[CBSNEWS] Police say five people attending a candlelight vigil in for a man killed in west Baltimore were shot when a gunman opened fire on the crowd.

Detective Donny Moses said in a phone interview that about 25 people had gathered about 6:30 p.m. Monday at Fulton and North avenues, where 24-year-old Jermaine Schofield was shot and killed early Sunday.

The shooting comes after Schofield's mother, Doreen Scofield, asked for no retaliation in her son's death, according to the Baltimore Sun.

"It's not going to bring my son back," she said. "I just want to bury my son."

She told the Sun she had forgiven who ever killed her son.

"Just stop hurting people," she said.

SDF official: ISIS militants have only two options in Manbij: give up or die

[ARANews] AMUDE – Senior official of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Dr. Nasir Haji Mansour on Tuesday told ARA News that ISIS is fighting very hard in Manbij city “which is slowing down the operation” that started on 31 May. Moreover, ISIS has started to kill civilians that are trying to flee the city, he said.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on 31 May launched an operation to take the 98-km border pocket of Manbij from militants of the Islamic State (ISIS). So far, the battle has taken a very heavy toll on the SDF-forces.

“If the SDF capture Manbij, all of Aleppo’s countryside would be under threat, because it’s a strategic stronghold for ISIS,” SDF official Mansour told ARA News. “It’s a strategic battle and different from Tel Abyad and Shaddadi [where ISIS just withdrew],” he said.

“If the operation is successful, the connection between ISIS, Turkey and Aleppo’s countryside will be cut off,” he said.

Over the last few days, ISIS militants have been trying to break the SDF siege on the city from four sides, but failed. Nevertheless, SDF advances on the city itself go slow due to booby traps, IEDS and the use of civilians as human shields. “This became big obstacles, the SDF cannot use heavy weapons to save civilians, and the coalition has minimised its airstrikes over Manbij,” he said.

Moreover, ISIS is using tunnels and civilian houses as bases. “Sometimes they use a house, fight against us, then wear civilian clothes and go back to another house. The coalition cannot hit them because they think those are civilians,” the SDF official said in an interview with ARA News on Tuesday.

In the meantime, the US-led coalition said in a statement on Tuesday evening that its fighter jets launched 14 strikes on ISIS strongholds in Manbij, hitting nine separate ISIS tactical units and destroying 17 fighting positions for the group, besides bombing a logistics hub and an artillery piece.

Furthermore, the Syrian Democratic Forces spokesman said that ISIS killed at least 70 civilians when they were trying to flee. “One family tried to escape Manbij city, and they got captured and killed. Others were killed in their cars, when they tried to flee.”

The official refuted recent reports about the SDF snipers targeting civilians.

Although some people claim that the Arab population is against the Kurdish-led SDF, the situation in Manbij –where civilians are trying to reach SDF-lines even risking their lives– show that the civilians are not supporting ISIS.

“This is a proof that all civilians [in Manbij] are against ISIS. They protested against ISIS in Manbij, and they are trying to escape,” he said.

Unlike previous campaigns, this is the first time the SDF completely besieged a city. “ISIS terrorists were getting reinforcements and weapons, that’s why we completely surrounded the city,” he added.

However, the SDF official says ISIS has only one of two solutions in Manbij: “Either they will surrender and give up, or fight against us until they die,” he said. So far, it seems that ISIS has chosen for the last option.

The biggest problem (from my perspective) is this: that dashed line you see just south of Progressive Field is the Innerbelt, where I-90, I-71, and I-77 (AKA still the Willow Freeway on some maps) meet. Anything goes down and that's it - there's no other way through the city without going about five miles south to I-480, or around fifteen miles south to the Ohio Turnpike/I-80. And there's no real connection from the city to any of those - it would be streets all the way. It'll take hours to get around at best.

They SHOULD have had this out at the IX Center near Hopkins Airport. A lot harder to get to but a lot more defensible and it wouldn't close an appreciable chunk of the damn city for a week and a half.

Cleveland is a waterfront city, so there's some slope built into the street drainage infrastructure. Pretty hard to secure from below.

I vote for hijacked gas trucks dumped into the storm and sewer drains. I'll bet the eastside parking lots and cemetary drain into the same sewer as the Quicken Loan building roof downspouts.

Of course there's the adjacent rail yard...


and the nearby public airport.

NGO used US tax dollars in anti-Netanyahu election campaign
The Senate subcommittee on investigations published a report on Tuesday finding that OneVoice, an international non-profit organization once funded by the State Department, actively campaigned against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during Israel's 2015 national parliamentary elections.

The "infrastructure and resources" of that campaign was built, in part, by funding from their State Department grant, the report found.

OneVoice entered headlines in 2015 after absorbing Victory15, an Israeli group that was actively campaigning against the Netanyahu government. One year earlier, OneVoice had successfully secured $300,000 in a grant from the State Department.

"OneVoice used the campaign infrastructure and resources built, in part, with State Department grants funds to support V15. In service of V15, OneVoice deployed its social media platform, which more than doubled during the State Department grant period; used its database of voter contact information, including email addresses, which OVI expanded during the grant period; and enlisted its network of trained activists, many of whom were recruited or trained under the grant, to support and recruit for V15.

"This pivot to electoral politics was consistent with a strategic plan developed by OneVoice leadership and emailed to State Department officials during the grant period. The State Department diplomat who received the plan told the Subcommittee that he never reviewed it," the report stated.

The subcommittee found that OneVoice fully complied with the terms of its State Department grant, designing and executing "a grassroots and media campaign to promote public support for Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations for the Department, as it said it would."

In a statement, OneVoice defended itself by noting the Senate report found the group in full compliance with the terms of its grants.

"The subcommittee 'found no evidence that OneVoice spent grant funds to influence the 2015 Israeli elections,'" OneVoice noted, quoting from the report. "The subcommittee also praised OneVoice for its cooperation and for being 'forthright' with the State Department about its work."

"The State Department grant concluded before Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu issued his surprise call for early elections," they added. "OneVoice will continue its important work promoting peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians."

In 2015, State Department officials denied any knowledge of OneVoice's campaign against Netanyahu or any connection between that campaign and its grant funding.

"The subcommittee found no evidence that OneVoice spent grant funds to influence the 2015 Israeli elections," the report concludes. "Soon after the grant period ended, however, OneVoice used the campaign infrastructure and resources built, in part, with State Department grants funds to support V15."

The Senate report also says the State Department "failed to take any steps to guard against the risk that OneVoice could engage in political activities using State-funded grassroots campaign infrastructure after the grant period."

Notably, this investigation was signed off by members of both parties– unusual for this type of Senate report.

Subcommittee chairman Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and ranking member Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) drew different conclusions from the same findings, however: Portman said that the State Department "ignored warning signs" of OneVoice's political activism, while McCaskill highlighted the fact that the report found no wrongdoing on the part of the Obama administration.

Four Bangladeshis convicted in Singapore
[Dhaka Tribune] A Singapore court yesterday convicted four Bangladeshi workers for financing terrorism and sentenced them to jail terms varying between two and five years.

The four convicted Bangladeshi are Rahman Mizanur, 31; Miah Rubel, 26; Md Jabath Kysar Haje Norul Islam Sowdagar, 31; and Sohel Hawlader Ismail Hawlader, 29, the Straits Times reported.

Rahman was sentenced to 60 months in jail. Sohel was given 24 months while Miah and Jabath each got 30 months.

Earlier, they were charged with providing or collecting money to fund terrorist acts in Bangladesh.

Prosecutors said the men ‐ who pleaded guilty on May 31 ‐ had contributed part of their salary to buy food, arms and weapons like knives and pistols to launch attacks in Bangladesh. The amounts ranged from 60 Singapore dollars ($42) to 1,360 Singapore dollars ($1,000).

They were part of a group detained in April under the country's Internal Security Act, which allows for detention without trial in cases where public safety is threatened.

"He was the criminal mastermind. He was the one who started this whole outfit," the judge said.

Rahman was shackled as he arrived in court and looked down when the sentence was passed, surrounded by heavy police guard.

He had earlier addressed the court in English, putting forth a lengthy plea for mitigation. "I wanted to learn my religion. [My friends] showed me the wrong way, the wrong activities," Rahman said. "This is my very big mistake sir. I am very remorseful."

Media reports also said that two other men named Zzaman Daulat, 34, and Mamun Leakot Ali, 29, have denied the charges and are claiming retrial. Their trial dates have not been set.

Those other Bangladeshi men who were detained in April have not been charged and will be dealt with separately, officials have said.

(IraqiNews.com) Mardin- In a statement issued by People’s Defense Forces (HPG), an armed wing of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), it was mentioned that the organization has killed 40 Turkish soldiers in a raid on July 9 (Saturday) last.

The HPG press statement issued on Monday it was stated, “PKK guerrillas on Saturday, July 9, attacked a military station in Cewzat at Mardin- a southeastern Turkish province- and killed 40 Turkish soldiers.”

“The PKK soldiers, prior to engaging in a gun battle with the Turkish soldiers, also detonated a car bomb. Later, Turkish helicopters shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for medical attention,” added the statement.

It may be mentioned here that over a hundred soldiers- from both sides- have died since July 2015 after a two-year ceasefire ended between PKK and Turkey. The clashes have however left a number of civilians homeless.

DNC Staffer Seth Rich Shot Dead in the Back in DC, Just Hours After Calling For Dallas Unity
[HEATST] A young idealist who worked for the Democratic National Committee was murdered early Sunday as he walked home in the Bloomingdale neighborhood in affluent Northwest Washington D.C.

Seth Rich, 27, was shot multiple times including twice in the back. His mother Mary Rich told the local NBC station that her son was found with bruises on his face, knees and hands ‐ signs that he fought for his life.

"Worst nightmare," she told News4.

According to Mary Rich, Seth was talking on the phone with his girlfriend at the time of the attack and she heard noise on his end of the line. He told her not to worry about it.

"I’m not naive," Obama said. "I’ve spoken at too many memorials during the course of this presidency. I’ve hugged too many families that lost a loved one to senseless violence."

Obama said he has seen how inadequate words can be at spurring change, but said that if America "is to honor these five outstanding officers we lost," then the country must be honest about confronting its challenges going forward.

He rejected any suggestion that all police are biased or bigoted and pilloried people who, with their words, call for violence against officers. To me it was a stunning comparison between the two - Bush was resolute and compassionate to the family, Obama made an attempt to memorialize and then launched into a political pontification that demonstrated his smallness.

Mr. Bush spoke directly and truely to the family, their loss was not fair, we all do not share equally in their loss, this was a memorial for their fallen and their sacrifice. A sacrifice for the love of their brothers and sisters in blue, and the price they pay for their servant leadership.

Kops detain 9 Haqqani Acolytes in suspected attack on Qalat City
A group of 9 Haqqani network militants were arrested by the Afghan intelligence operatives before they manage to conduct attacks in Qalat city, the provincial capital of Zabul province.

The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), said the Afghan intelligence operatives confiscated at least 12 Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the detained militants.

NDS further added that the group was involved in a number of attacks in Qalat city that led to the killing of at least two people and wounding 5 others.

According to NDS, the group was looking to place the IEDs in the populated parts of Qalat city before they were arrested by the intelligence operatives.

This comes as a group of 3 Haqqani network militants were arrested before they manage to carry out attacks in Kabul city.

Haqqani network was formed in the late 1970s by Jalaluddin Haqqani. The group is allied with al-Qaida and the Afghan Taliban and cooperates with other terrorist organizations in the region.

The network is accused of staging numerous cross-border attacks from their base in North Waziristan, including the 19-hour siege at the US Embassy in Kabul in September 2011.

It is considered the most lethal insurgent group targeting the NATO-led coalition security forces and Afghan personnel in Afghanistan.

The US Department of State designated the HQN as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on September 7, 2012

Hostility toward Syrians grows after deadly fight in central Turkey
Tensions are running high in the Beyşehir district of the Central Anatolian province of Konya, where a young Turkish man and a Syrian man were recently killed in a street fight, as local residents, including the slain Turkish teen’s family, demand the Syrians living in the area leave.

Two people were killed and another three were wounded in a fight between Syrians and Turks which erupted over the kicking of a stray dog late on July 9 in Beyşehir. The fight was reportedly started after Mehmet Bayraktar, 18, saw four Syrians kicking a stray dog and warned them not to do so.

A number of local Beyşehir residents, including Bayraktar’s parents, have shown their anger since the deadly incident, voicing that they no longer wanted Syrians in their town.

The police have taken wide security measures since the incident, with riot control vehicles with water cannons, known as TOMAs, and some 400 police officers dispatched to the town as a precaution.

Meanwhile some of the 900 Syrians living in the town have already fled left after their homes were allegedly stoned following the deadly fight.

Mustafa Sevimli, whose shop was below an apartment that was stoned by an angry crowd, said Syrians had been welcomed in the town but now they were posing a threat.

“Now we are concerned. We do not want them to be here anymore. Syrians have come here as guests and we want them to act as guests. We will then show our hospitality. But if they do craziness, the people of Beyşehir won’t stand behind them. Until now, the people of Beyşehir embraced them with love,” said Sevimli.

Another shopkeeper in the same building, Ömer Duran, said the state had to find solutions to the problem.

“They have used our love for mean purposes. The state should give the necessary punishment, because if people get involved in this [situation], things would get out of hand. [The Syrian] people who live in this building have gathered on the top floor. The landlord also wants to take them out. Now, we, as the shopkeepers are being affected,” said Duran.

Meanwhile, the interrogation of some 15 people, including eight Syrians who were detained after the incident, was ongoing while the body of Syrian İbrahim El Ali, who was killed in the fight, was still in a morgue and it will be buried in a public cemetery if no one shows up to claim it.

Normally when something bad happens to an individual you feel some degree of pity for them. But then when that person is a Jerkass, when horrible things happen to them it is less sympathy and more satisfaction. They are not directly responsible for THIS particular misfortune, as that would be Laser-Guided Karma, but their behavior means something like this was going to happen eventually. This can range from the victim merely being a dick to being a far worse criminal than the person he or she is a victim to.

In other words, when a corpse-shaped or victim-shaped hole in the plot is filled with a character who is in some way sufficiently repugnant that the audience feeling bad about their death (or other victimization) is unlikely.

Al-Rashidiya district faced a gruesome scene during the morning hour rush when a pickup truck, filled with explosives, blew apart in the middle of the vegetable and fruit market, killing 12 and leaving 37 others injured.

Simultaneously, another bomb went off in a town of Mahmoudiya, killing three people and wounding ten others.

After the attack in Mahmoudiya, which is 20 miles south of Baghdad, a third bomb went off in Dora, where a commercial area was targeted. Around nine people were maimed there while two were killed in the Capital’s southern neighbourhood.

The attacks were launched a day after Interior Ministry front man, Brig. Gen. Saad Maan announced plans related to the major military parade over the weekend in which Iraqi forces were to be deployed across the streets. More than half of central Baghdad’s Green zone area faced heavy traffic due to almost 75 percent of the streets being closed to prepare for the parade.

The parade was said to celebrate the victories achieved by Iraqi Forces against the ISIS in numerous areas like Fallujah and Qayara airbase.

However,

Two militants die in Bajaur IED explosion
KHAR: Two suspected militants were killed on Monday when a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) they were planting on Dherakai-Pashat road in Salarazai tehsil of the Bajaur tribal region went off.

Officials of the Bajaur administration said two bodies mutilated beyond recognition were found at the scene of the incident.

They claimed that the deceased were involved in several cases of planting the IEDs on Dherakai-Pashat road to target security forces and pro-government tribal elders associated with peace committees.

The bomb, they said, went off, killing the suspects on the spot.

The political administration and security personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. However, there was no report of any arrest.

Student killed by trigger-happy policemen in plain clothes
KARACHI: A college student selling a mobile phone was killed while a suspected robber posing as a buyer was wounded late on Sunday night when trigger-happy policemen in plain clothes fired at them in the Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society, officials said on Monday.

The policemen, however, fled the area in a police mobile van shortly after the episode that drew the attention of the top officials who ordered an impartial probe into the incident and sought recommendations for legal action against the policemen.

The policemen involved in the shooting and the police mobile van remained untraceable, officials told Dawn.

According to the Ferozabad police, 21-year-old Abrar-ul-Hasan, a resident of Keamari, had advertised his mobile phone for sale on a website (OLX). He was later contacted by a man, Dil Nawaz, over phone and they agreed to meet in Saddar on Sunday night for the deal.

The police said Dil Nawaz posing as a buyer remained seated in his car near Lucky Star when Abrar approached him. He examined the mobile phone and kept it with him. As the seller demanded Rs15,000, the suspect drove the car in an attempt to flee. But the young man managed to get into the car. When they reached the SMCHS, the policemen travelling in a mobile van saw them fighting with each other inside the car. “The policemen might have assumed it as a kidnapping or robbery bid and opened fire on them,” said Gulshan-i-Iqbal superintendent of police Dr Fahad Ahmed, who is also holding the charge of Jamshed Town SP.

Both the seller and the imposter sustained gunshot wounds, the officer said. The police mobile van did not belong to the area police station, he added. It is not known that why the policemen involved in the incident disappeared afterwards. Some witnesses said the mobile van belonged to the Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) while others said it belonged to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of police, according to the police officer.

SP Ahmed said the wounded men were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Abrar was pronounced dead.

Initial probe indicated that the wounded man, Dil Nawaz, had allegedly been involved in cheating people. The number plate of the white Honda City car that he was travelling in was “fake”, he said.

The officer told Dawn that the police obtained CCTV footage from the area and it showed that “the mobile, which resembles the police mobile” was chasing the car from Lucky Star in Saddar.

The police spokesperson said that IG police A.D. Khowaja took notice of the media reports that the policemen in civilian dress and travelling in a mobile van gunned down the youth. The police chief directed the Karachi-East Zone DIG to carry out fair, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident and submit a detailed report to him with recommendations for legal action against the policemen.

Ferozabad SHO Kansan Dean, meanwhile, said they had invited the victim’s father to lodge an FIR so that formal investigation could be initiated to trace the culprits.

Four CTD policemen booked

On Monday night, the police said the SMCHS incident had been ‘resolved’ as it had been proved during the investigation that four personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department were involved in it, according to the CTD head, Raja Umer Khattab.

He said he held an inquiry into the incident during which three policemen surrendered before him and narrated the event while the fourth one, who had actually fired the shots, was taken into custody from his home.

The held policemen were identified as Saeed, Rashid, Nadeem and Kaleem — all constables.

Taliban attack repulsed in Farah, 10 killed, 7 wounded
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A Taliban attack was repulsed by the Afghan cops in Farah province located in western part of the country, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Tuesday.

According to a statement by MoI, a group of Taliban snuffies launched coordinated attack on a police check post in the village of Karez located in the center of Farah.

The statement further added that the attack was launched on Monday evening but the Afghan forces efficiently responded to the Taliban fire.

At least 10 Taliban snuffies were killed and 7 others were maimed after the attack was repulsed, MoI said.

MoI also added that a vehicle, a cycle of violence and some weapons and ammunitio belonging to the Taliban militnts were also confiscated.

The Afghan National Police (ANP) forces did not suffer any casualties during the shootout, MoI added.

The anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups including the Taliban snuffies have not commented regarding the incident so far.

Farah is located in the west of Afghanistan which is a relatively peaceful province but the anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups are active in a number of its remote districts.

Clapper Denies Request to Block Clinton From Classified Intel Briefings
[ABC] Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan's request to block Hillary Clinton from receiving classified intelligence briefings was denied by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Monday.

In a letter to Ryan, Clapper wrote that he did "not intend to withhold briefings from any officially nominated, eligible candidate."

A spokeswoman for Ryan, AshLee Strong, said in a statement that "We obviously disagree with the decision and want to know what precautions will be taken and what assurances the director can give that Secretary Clinton won't mishandle classified information. She has proven herself untrustworthy."

The news came one week after FBI director James Comey announced that the FBI recommended no charges be filed against Clinton in her handling of classified email while she was Secretary of State.

Ryan excoriated Clapper, saying the decision "defies explanation," as well as Clinton, who he said "misled the American people when she was confronted with her criminal actions."

#4  The request was posturing to underline the issue for the voters -- this is the kind of thing that causes the thoughtful to question, and the questioners to crawl over broken glass to vote. No one would have been more surprised than Congressman Ryan had it been acted on.
