Don't panic! When a country's military deposes an Islamic nutjob that's a good thing. I bet Obama will be crying in his corn flakes but it's a good sign that the Turkish military has had enough of Erdogan.

'Ladies and Gentlemen...due to..recent events and tragedies, I as Commander in Chief have ordered all available assets to assist our allies in the Middle East, and destroy the radical factions which are causing global instability.
Within two minutes of receiving a distress call, a uniformed Marine quick reaction force was en route to President Erdogon's private home. Let me be clear - I recognize President Erdogon as the legitimate government of Turkey. The first elements of our military will be in Istanbul immediately. All military equipment and personelle will be considered hostile.
In addition, I call for President al-Sisi of Egypt to immediately resign, and the rightly elected President Morsi be reinstated immediately.'

However which way it goes -- and knowing that the Turkish military are the supporters of a secular and western-oriented civic government -- I can only think that the Black Lives Matter a**holes must be weeping into their Cheerios going into this weekend. The Nice massacre stole their news thunder - and now a Turkish coup is doing a victory dance over the wreckage - if there ever was a serious effort towards a Day of Rage. (Which might have been debatable, anyway.)
So - should we set up a betting pool over which country will offer Erdogan sanctuary? Any suggestions and bets?

Various tweets suggest that 1) the coup is being led by mid or junior officers and 2) it is failing, as state TV apparently is back in the hands of police.

Fatal mistake: They didn't get hold of Erdogan. And that's why the senior officers won't go along with the coup.
This will fail, and Erdogan will turn into a real dictator now.

TFG gets it wrong, of course, as he has to: 2:55 a.m.
The White House says President Barrack Obama has talked on the phone with Secretary of State John Kerry to discuss the events in Turkey.
It says the two agreed that all parties in Turkey should support the democratically-elected government of Turkey, show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed.
It added that Kerry underscored that the State Department will continue to focus on the safety and security of U.S. citizens in Turkey.
Kerry says the U.S. views with gravest concern events unfolding in Turkey and officials are monitoring "a very fluid situation."
Kerry says he spoke this evening to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and emphasized the United States' absolute support for Turkey's democratically-elected, civilian government and democratic institutions.

The Turkish military has started a coup to depose the nation's government according to prime minister Binali Yildirim.
Istanbul's Bosphorus Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge were both closed on Friday, local television channels reported, without giving a reason.

Bridge closures -- trying to keep the more fundamentalists from the eastern suburbs from coming into the city?
And I'm worried that Iran, Russia, and ISIS will try to get some advantage out of this, and plunge the country into a multi-sided civil war.
Oh, and watch the JEF screw this up. He'll do something like demand Erdogan be put back into power, regardless of what evidence the Turkish military turns up against him.

Hillary could select Erdogan as her running mate. He has experience in ruining a country so he would be a perfect choice for her agenda.
Governor Chris Christie, of New Jersey, angrily refused to pick up Donald Trump's dry cleaning during a tense encounter between the two men on Friday, campaign sources confirm.
The ugly scene unfolded at the billionaire's offices in midtown Manhattan, shortly after Trump revealed that his Vice-Presidential pick would be Governor Mike Pence of Indiana.
According to Trump aides, Christie stomped into the presumptive Republican nominee's office and hurled a dry-cleaning ticket onto his desk, telling Trump, "You can pick up your own damn dry cleaning."
The New Jersey governor then stormed out, and has not been seen by Trump or his staffers since.
Trump's press secretary, Hope Hicks, warned the media against making too much of the apparent rift between the billionaire and Christie. "In the long hours of a campaign, emotions can sometimes get a little raw," she said. "We are confident that Governor Christie will pick up Mr. Trump's dry cleaning going forward."
Reached later by reporters, Governor Christie issued a brief statement: "Get away from me. Just get away from me, you bastards." ;-)

[DoD Buzz] FARNBOROUGH, England -- Under the hood of the much-anticipated CH-53K King Stallion helicopter is a slew of smart systems that will help maintainers keep it flying faster and safer, the Navy’s program executive officer for air, anti-submarine warfare, assault and special mission programs said this week.
Speaking at the Farnborough International Airshow on Tuesday, Rear Adm. Dean Peters said the King Stallion, built by the Lockheed Martin Corp.-owned Sikorsky and set to hit the Marine Corps fleet in 2019, would come with native health usage and monitoring systems and enhanced logistics tracking capability that would allow the aircraft to tell the crew when a part was failing or needed maintenance well ahead of a crisis point.
This advanced tech, he said, would allow maintainers to request parts further in advance.
"It’s similar to the technology that’s used in commercial department stores, so we understand when components are failing or about to fail and we have the part ready and we don’t have to rob that from another aircraft and create more maintenance," Peters said.
The aircraft will also come equipped with a high-durability gearbox that are expected to keep the aircraft out of maintenance for longer periods, a key concern now as the Marine Corps grapples with a fleet of heavy-lift helicopters that is largely unfit to fly.
These are just a few ways of many that the King Stallion is expected to save the Marines’ aging CH-53 Echo Super Stallion fleet.
[Mil.com] WASHINGTON -- The story of Green Beret Gary Michael Rose's heroism is an epic of classified warfare and a stinging media scandal, but it might soon end with a Medal of Honor.
In 1970, Rose was the lone medic for a company of Special Forces soldiers and indigenous Vietnamese fighters during a risky, four-day assault deep into Laos. The badly injured Rose helped bring all the soldiers back alive and received the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second highest military honor, during a ceremony at the time in Vietnam.
"He is not a gung-ho person, he is very thoughtful, but he was a hell of a medic and I trusted him with my life," said Keith Plancich, 66, who was a Special Forces squad leader on the mission.
But Rose and the other men were wrongly accused of taking part in war crimes in 1998 after the mission, called Operation Tailwind, was declassified and unearthed for the first time by CNN and its partner Time magazine.
Stunning claims that Rose and the Green Berets were sent to Laos to kill American defectors and that the military used sarin gas during the mission were fully discredited. CNN and Time retracted the story, which was co-written and presented by famed journalist Peter Arnett, but it cast a shadow over the mission that still remains.
The highest recognition of heroism is close for Rose and the Green Berets. The soft-spoken former medic might be the next Vietnam veteran to receive the Medal of Honor, after President Barack Obama presents the medal to retired Army pilot Lt. Col. Charles Kettles on Monday.

Thanks, spineless Trunks.
The White House predicted Friday that the federal government's budget deficit for current fiscal year will hit $600 billion, an increase of $162 billion over last year's and a final sour note on President Obama's watch.
While the figure was expected, the increase represents a reversal from previous years, in which budget deficits had steadily declined from the massive $1.4 trillion annual deficit early in Mr. Obama's first term during the recession.
In March, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projected a $534 billion deficit in fiscal 2016, which ends on Sept. 30.
Shaun Donovan, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, said the new projection is actually $16 billion lower than the $616 billion deficit estimated by the administration in February. He said deficits are expected to remain below 3 percent of gross domestic product through the next decade.
"Even as the administration made critical investments to support economic growth, it also succeeded in putting the nation on a sound fiscal path," Mr. Donovan said. "Since 2009, federal deficits have fallen by nearly three-quarters as a share of the economy -- the most rapid sustained reduction since just after World War II."
Under Mr. Obama, the total national debt has climbed to $19.3 trillion; it was about $10.6 trillion when he took office in January 2009. And now we can't even afford to keep our military in good repair. All by design, of course.
Mr. Donovan credited the $821 billion recovery act of 2009, the Affordable Care Act and other measures for American businesses adding 14.8 million new jobs since February 2010 and lowering the unemployment rate by more than half.
And "we" (meaning perfumed liberals) get the vapors over waterboarding. I'd take waterboarding for myself, my family or anyone I cared about over these quick but effective acts of torture.
A French government committee has heard testimony, suppressed by the French government at the time and not released to the media, that the killers in the Bataclan tortured their victims on the second floor of the club.
Police witnesses in Parliament said they vomited when they saw the disfigured bodies.
Wahhabist killers apparently gouged out eyes, castrated victims, and shoved their testicles in their mouths. They may also have disemboweled some poor souls. Women were stabbed in the genitals ‐ and all the torture was, victims told police, filmed for Daesh or Islamic State propaganda. For that reason, medics did not release the bodies of torture victims to the families, investigators said.
But prosecutors claimed these reports of torture were "a rumor" on the grounds that sharp knives were not found at the scene. They also claimed that maybe shrapnel had caused the injuries.
Q. For the information of the Commission of Inquiry....can you tell us how you learned that there had been acts of barbarism within the Bataclan: beheadings, evisceration, eyes gouged out ...?
Investigator: After the assault, we were with colleagues at the passage Saint-Pierre Amelot when I saw weeping from one of our colleagues who came outside to vomit. He told us what he had seen.
Q. Acts of torture happened on the second floor?
Further on the investigator described how this was kept from relatives:
A. Bodies have not been presented to families because there were beheaded people there, the murdered people, people who have been disembowelled . There are women who had their genitals stabbed.
Q. All this would have been videotaped for Daesh !
A. I believe so. Survivors have said so.
Elsewhere the investigator says women were sexually tortured, stabbed in the genitals, and their eyes were plucked out. People were decapitated.
The committee chief pressed the investigator on whether victims were decapitated or mutilated. He stated that the authorities had given out conflicting information that said victims were merely shot or blown up. The President of the Committee replied with this damning statement about one victim's father discovering the gruesome truth in the morgue:
Mr. President Georges Fenech Indeed, the Committee is troubled by this information which has appeared nowhere [in the media]. Thus, the father of one of the victims sent me a copy of a letter he sent to the investigating judge, which I quote in summary: "On the causes of the death of my son A., at the forensic institute in Paris, I was told, and what a shock it was for me at that moment, they had cut off his testicles, had put them in his mouth, and he was disemboweled. When I saw him behind glass, lying on a table, a white shroud covering it up to the neck, a psychologist was with me. He said: This is "the only presentable part, your son's left profile." I found that he had no right eye. I made the remark; I was informed that they had punctured his eye and sliced down the right side of his face, where there was a very large hematoma that we could all see. "
This particular witness could corroborate the statements that we heard from one of the BAC officials, that one of his investigators vomited immediately on leaving the Bataclan after finding a decapitation and evisceration. Are you aware of such facts?
The prosecutor replied lamely that no sharp knife had been found at the scene that could have been used for torture. Perhaps shrapnel had caused the mutilation, he said. The head of the committee asked if an explosion would have placed testicles in a victim's mouth:
Prosecutor: I specify, for the sake of clarity: some of the bodies found at the Bataclan were extremely mutilated by the explosions and weapons, to the point that it was sometimes difficult to reconstruct the dismembered bodies. In other words, injuries described this father may also have been caused by automatic weapons, by explosions or projections of nails and bolts that have resulted.
Q. Would those have put a man's balls in in his own mouth?
Prosecutor: I do not have that information. I'll bet you don't. I'll look to where the shadows fall for my information.
The news follows reports that German police sat on the huge number of sexual assaults committed by Islamist migrants in Cologne, which a secret report estimated at thousands, not hundreds. Heat Street will continue to report.

This has to be given more attention. While such things are hard to contemplate without anger, the barbarism of these jihadi animals needs to be known. WE HAVE TO BREAK THROUGH THE POLITICALLY CORRECT COMPLACENCY. Hillary open admitted 1 million more Muslim immigrants during her first term, a number impossible to properly vet and record check to weed out the most obvious candidates for violence and sharia. Literally, we are importing the seeds for this kind of trauma to an already fracturing society. This is insanity, to bring it here instead of fighting it there.
The following data is maintained by the website: TheReligionofPeace. It is titled "What Makes Islam so Different?" TROP states: "TROP is a non-partisan, fact-based site which examines the ideological threat that Islam poses to human dignity and freedom."
During this time period [2016] and worldwide, there were 1268 Islamic attacks in 50 countries, in which 11664 people were killed and 14087 injured. Despite many leaders in the West leading from behind and trying as hard as they might to deny the threat, there is a worldwide terror war being waged by the Islamacis.
This article and the French motivations could certainly be challenged, the end result, probably not. Always helpful to know what clueless elites are thinking...

Yes, certainly tendentious, but it captures the historical reluctance of the French to completely let go of their colonial holdings. Their reluctance and continued military footprint could be debated at length.
The downside of a removal of the military presence can be found currently in Iraq.

The author of this piece seems to believe that people are mainly motivated by looking at the past and seeking revenge for perceived wrongdoing. There is no truth to this notion.
People, most of whom have little knowledge of the past, are concerned about the future, and direct their activities at seeking future goals.
These goals generally involve increasing one's power influence or wealth, or getting absolution for one's sins. Unfortunately there are many moslems who consider killing unbelievers to be the best way to do the last of these.
[AP] LAHORE, Pakistan - The United States has put a $10 million bounty on his head, labeling him a terrorist. He is one of the most wanted men in India. Yet, Hafiz Saeed walks free in his home country of Pakistan, denouncing Washington and New Delhi in public speeches.
Now the man identified by the U.S. as a founding member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group is weighing in on the flare-up of violence in Kashmir, the mountainous region divided between Pakistani and Indian control, where dozens have died in clashes with protesters after Indian security forces killed a top rebel leader.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Saeed accused the U.S. of giving India a free hand to crush the anti-India protests in its Himalayan territory, warning that will only lead to an escalation of violence.
"America is supporting this oppression by India by saying it is an internal matter," the 66-year-old Saeed said in the interview, which took place Wednesday at his two-story home behind a steel barrier separating it from the narrow streets of the eastern city of Lahore.
"This has given India encouragement, and because of this, the killings and violence" will continue, he said.
Washington has said it will not intervene. But U.S. State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau, speaking to reporters Thursday, disagreed with the suggestion by Saeed and others that the U.S. is aloof and therefore partly responsible for the crackdown. She said the U.S. has had discussions with both India and Pakistan about the violence in Kashmir.
"We are very concerned about the deaths of the protesters," Trudeau said. "That’s of grave concern to us. We continue to be in touch with the government of India. We’ve been in discussions with the government of Pakistan as well."
Saeed said he will lead nationwide demonstrations in Pakistan to force its government to sever ties with the U.S. if it cannot convince Washington to intervene in the decades-old Kashmir dispute. The two countries, which also possess nuclear weapons, have fought three wars, two of them over Kashmir.
[Breitbart] An Islamic Mosque, funded and owned by a hardline, "fundamentalist" Saudi Arabian cleric, opened in the Nice just two weeks before the Southern French city was struck by a deadly terror attack.
Town Mayor Christian Estrosi had fought a bitter legal battle with the French state in an attempt to stop it opening, claiming the owner, Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Saleh bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh (pictured left) "advocates Sharia law and destroyed all the churches on the Arabian Peninsula."
"Our intelligence agencies are worried about this place of worship," the mayor said, before warned about "unregulated foreign funding," according to French news site RTL.
Mr. Estrosi, mayor since 2008, argued that the project, which was initiated under his predecessor in 2002, was unauthorised. He took central government representative Prefect Adolphe Colrat to court but did not succeed.
Mr. Colrat accused Mr. Estrosi, who is a member of France's centre-right The Republicans Party, of "feeding populism" and scapegoating the entire Muslim community to gain votes, AFP reported.

[FreeBeacon] Immigration and Customs Enforcement has released nearly 90,000 illegal immigrants since 2013 who had committed more than 200,000 crimes,
...ambitious little sods. And of course, the 200,000 are the known crimes -- the unknown crimes could be a great deal more...
according to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah) reported during a hearing Thursday that nearly a million illegal aliens who have received final deportation orders remain in the United States.
"We have people that come here legally to this country, we have people that come here illegally to this country," Chaffetz said during his opening statement. "But there's a population here that may have overstayed a visa, they may have come here on a tourist visa or a student visa. But they were supposed to go home and they didn't and they're here illegally."
"Nevertheless, there is a large population of people that are in this country illegally," he said. "Unfortunately, there is also a criminal element to this population."
Chaffetz said 86,288 illegal aliens who have been convicted of a crime have been released by the federal government since 2013. Those illegal immigrants had committed a total of 231,074 crimes.
"That's a lot of criminal activity that can be totally and wholly avoided," Chaffetz said.
Convicted sex offenders, kidnappers, and murderers were released last year, and a total of 953,507 aliens who have received deportation orders remain in the United States.
"In the last year alone, ICE, Immigration Customs Enforcement, released‐keep in mind these people committed crimes or were convicted of these crimes, they're in our possession and we release them out into the public‐19,723 criminal aliens, who among them had 64,197 convictions, including 934 sex offenses, 804 robberies, 216 kidnappings, and 196 homicide-related convictions," Chaffetz said.

German police conducted, for the first time ever, a series of raids across the country Wednesday targeting people who posted “hate speech” on Facebook.
No, not targeted at the ISIS...
Some 25 German police departments raided 60 homes in 14 counties in a move to combat what is seen as a growing problem with hate speech permeating the country, The Verge reported Wednesday. Germany’s federal police agency, Bundeskriminalamt (BKA), said they found the “glorification of Nazism and the exchange of xenophobic, anti-Semitic or other right-wing extremism,” on social media, according to a Wednesday press release.
Hate speech has been growing in Germany over the last 18 months, according to the newspaper Deutsche Wells, based on data from a study undertaken by the German anti-racism group, Antonio Amadeu Stiftung (AAS).
“The monitoring report reveals that the agitation is intensifying in the social media,” Anetta Kahane, AAS chairwoman said in a statement.
The rise in hate speech is thought to be directly linked to the massive wave of colonists refugees entering the country. German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, said she welcomed the refugees in 2015. “I’m happy that Germany has become a country that many people abroad associate with hope,” Merkel said at a press conference in Berlin.
The BKA also made the connection, corroborating the link of refugees migrating to Germany and a rise in hate speech. “The action carried out today shows that the authorities are acting firmly against hate on the internet,” Holger Münch, head of the BKA, said in a statement. “Which has grown considerably in the wake of the refugee situation.”
More than 1 million colonists refugees have flooded into Germany in 2015. But with that spike in refugees, crime has also spiked. A leaked police report picked up by Spiegel in 2015 and re-published by The Daily Mail, revealed that of the 1.1 million colonists refugees, more than 200,000 crimes were committed by the migrants. A spike of 79 percent from 2014, according to another Daily Mail article published in February.
What’s more, a Pew Research poll released Monday found that 6 out of 10 Germans are concerned that the colonists refugees will bring an elevated terror risk to the country. The Pew report goes on to say that “the colonist refugee crisis and the threat of terrorism are very much related to one another in the minds of many Europeans.”
But don't say anything about it or you might be arrested...
German newspaper, Neue Osnabruücker Zeitung, reported in May that 40 refugees are currently under investigation over ties to terror organizations.
All these arrests will do is drive the thoughts and speech underground. It's as if the German elites prefer to be more East German than West...

[IBT] Thousands of African migrants are currently stranded in Costa Rica after they were denied entry into neighbouring Nicaragua, which they have been using as a crossing point in order to reach the United States. According to the Costa Rican Red Cross, most of these people from Africa, Asia and Haiti.
It has been reported that many of them paid smugglers to reach Central America. However, when they arrived at the border gates, they were denied entry and were left with nowhere to go.
"We are just hoping that they might open the border because no one is leaving here to go backwards because there is nowhere to go back. You [have to] understand, more people are coming every day, we are receiving [up] to about 50 to 100 people every day. Right now, we are about 3,000 of us and more are still coming, so if they don't open the border we will stay here forever," Banchue Bhotoos from Congo explained to Reuters.

The regime will do little to rescue these poor people. Their numbers are yet small and there is little hope that they could be registered to vote before the election.
[The Week] If the CIA had a crystal ball, then they would probably not be routinely blindsided by world events. Lacking such a device, the agency has endured notable analytical failures. During the early 1990s, sudden collapses of Somalia, Zaire, Rwanda, and the Soviet Union seemingly appeared without warning.
Strategic surprises have always been a problem for intelligence agencies. The material impossibility of having eyes everywhere requires making judgments without seeing a complete picture, let alone the future. Assessing the likeliness of future rare political events has had dubious reliability.
Thus, in 1994, the CIA's Directorate of Intelligence commissioned the Political Instability Task Force (PITF), formerly known as the State Failure Task Force, a clairvoyant-esque squad of social-scientist brainiacs charged with churning global political data into global instability forecasts.
The creation of the PITF began at end of the Cold War. The PITF's mission is straightforward -- make intelligence analysis as holistic as possible, and locate where the next crisis might be, and why.
"The collapse of the Soviet Union completely caught the government off guard. Their models didn't capture that at all. [Their models] didn't even accept it," Monty Marshall, a senior consultant for the PITF and director of the Center for Systemic Peace told War Is Boring.
"The intelligence community was looking for alternative explanations," he added. "The old way of thinking, wasn't catching the new dynamics, trends, that don't fit into the way they understand things."

Who could have predicted the fall of the Muammar Gaddafi regime would result in the proliferation of his vast armories and weapons stockpiles throughout the ME ?

[Verge] Drones flying over a war zone are nothing new, and as they've proliferated, there have been more efforts to make them harder to see from the ground. Don't neglect the short video, which contains Prioria Products Mavrik field demo, 360 degree gimble cam, cool sound track, and F-150.
Case in point? A drone that was recently downed in Mogadishu, Somalia looks less like a drone and more like a large bird.
Local reports associate this drone, which came down on May 1st, with Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA). It's unclear exactly how it was downed, or if similar drones have been used in the country before.
What’s most interesting about this particular drone are its wings: in addition to looking like a bird, the wings will flap, although it looks like it’s actually powered by two sets of propellers. A quick glance at it flying overhead likely won’t attract a lot of attention, which is exactly what you’d want for a surveillance robot.
The US Army Special Operations Command has used a similar drone that can be fired out of a canon or deployed by hand. Like this drone discovered in Somalia, it has wings that can flap, making it appear like a regular bird flying overhead.
As Atlas Obscura points out, there have been concerted efforts for companies to mimic bird behavior in drones both for appearance and for the obvious reason: physics. Birds, after all, are the experts at flying, and learning just how they fly is a good step in adapting their mechanical counterparts to accomplish the same tasks.

I used to have an organic drone. Very tricky to use and had to use a mind meld GUI. Cheap to to operate tho. Fierce and Scary, but not overly affectionate. I could go for another one, except... Cats. Actually kept "the bird" in a Fort Lauderdale studio apt, corner of Oakland Park and 441, Lauderdale Lakes (ha) to be more accurate.
[Hot Air] The FBI did demand a separate non-disclosure agreement from agents assigned to the Hillary Clinton e-mail probe, Fox News - Catherine Herridge reported this morning. Agents had to agree not to discuss the case outside of the investigation, and were told that polygraph tests could well be involved to make sure the cone of silence remained in effect. The Senate Judiciary Committee got word two weeks ago of the unusual arrangements, including an apparent bar on speaking to members of Congress -- which chair Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) complained was a violation of whistleblower protections:
The FBI has confirmed to a senior Republican senator that agents were sworn to secrecy -- and subject to lie detector tests -- in the Hillary Clinton email probe, an extensive measure one former agent said could have a "chilling effect."
A July 1 letter sent by a senior deputy to FBI Director James Comey to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, detailed the restrictions on agents. The letter, reviewed by Fox News, confirmed agents signed a "Case Briefing Acknowledgement" which says the disclosure of information is "strictly prohibited" without prior approval, and those who sign are subject to lie detector tests.
"The purpose of this form is to maintain an official record of persons knowledgeable of a highly sensitive Federal Bureau of Investigation counterintelligence investigation," the agreement attached to the Grassley letter reads, "....I (FBI agent) also understand that, due to the nature and sensitivity of this investigation, compliance with these restrictions may be subject to verification by polygraph examination."
The measures show the extent to which the bureau has gone to keep additional details of the politically sensitive case from going public. While Comey has provided some information on why the FBI did not opt to pursue charges, Attorney General Loretta Lynch repeatedly ducked questions on specifics of the case at a House hearing Tuesday.

I saw a video or read an article the other day that said if the rocks were turned over with the Clinton Foundation that the government would fall. Maybe hyperbole but maybe not.
[Hot Air] Why is an easy question to answer. Why now is a little more difficult. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both launched efforts to get Congress to revive the "public option" for ObamaCare, claiming that a lack of competition makes it increasingly difficult for consumers to find health insurance. The Hill reports that not all Democrats have much enthusiasm for this argument, however: Everyone to the 'public option' small boats. Women and children first please.
The idea of adding a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers is making a comeback in the Democratic Party, with President Obama endorsing the idea Monday, two days after presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton emphasized a public option as part of an effort to win over Bernie Sanders and his supporters after a contentious primary.
But among more centrist members of the Senate, where the "public option" was stopped in 2009, there is little enthusiasm for the idea.
So who has cold feet? Some of the usual suspects, such as Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Manchin, two Senators from conservative states. But The Hill’s Peter Sullivan also reports that swing-state Senators Joe Donnelly (IN), Bill Nelson (FL), and Mark Warner (VA) aren’t terribly keen on answering questions about it.

[Wash Times] One of the Republican Party’s most-prominent figures blamed the Nice terror attack on gutless Western elites and called for the deportation of every Muslim in the U.S. who supports shariah law.
In an interview Thursday night on Fox News’ Channel’s "Hannity" show, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called for the monitoring of mosques and said America’s ruling class is too afraid to do this.
"This is the fault of Western elites who lack the guts to do what is right, to do what is necessary," he said. "We better rethink the rules, or we’re going to lose the war."
"You have to monitor the mosques," Mr. Gingrich said. "Where do you think the primary source of recruitment is? We should ... test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in shariah, they should be deported."

The Qur'an is the principal source of Islamic law so anyone professing the Muslim faith would be subject to deportation. Or do have I got it wrong ?

Just use a polygraph: "Do you believe that Sharia takes precedence over USA constitution? Answer yes or no." If the true answer is "yes", "Here are your one way tickets.".
As a matter of fact, how about an analogous ("Do you believe that USA constitution is a supreme law of the land?") polygraph test for all your elected officials?
#7
Problem is the reverse question. Do you believe the Ten Commandments.over-rides mortal law? Or in another confessional Do you believe in the two great commandments? If not, why not, here are your tickets.

BEIRUT: At least 11 civilians, including three children, were killed in air strikes on a rebel-held town in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province on Wednesday, a monitor said.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said it was unclear if the strikes on the town of Ariha in Idlib province were carried out by Syrian government or Russian war planes.
The town is controlled by the Army of Conquest, a rebel alliance of militant groups including Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front that holds almost all of Idlib province.
Video uploaded by activists purportedly showed the aftermath of the strikes, with residents and Civil Defense workers picking though debris looking for survivors.
Idlib has regularly been targeted by both Syrian government airstrikes and raids carried out by its Russian ally.
A longtime backer of the government in Damascus, Moscow stepped up its support for Bashar Assad on September 30, when it began an air campaign aimed at bolstering regime positions.
Elsewhere in the country, the Observatory said at least eight people were killed on Wednesday in the town of Rastan in central Homs province.
Five of them died in air strikes on the town’s market place, which also wounded dozens of people. Another three were killed in shelling earlier Wednesday.
Militants continued yesterday and today to target strategic as well as residential locations in Benghazi.
A women and two children were injured last night when a rocket exploded next to the ear, nose and throat clinic by the Arab Medical University in Buhdeima district. Reports also suggest a local man was also among the injured. It is not known if the target was the clinic or the nearby Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC), to which the injured were taken.
Several rockets have been fired at the BMC over the last weeks.
The ENT clinic was part of Hawari hospital but relocated to a villa next to the university when the hospital had to close.
Meanwhile, in a rocket attack in Sidi Younis district, in the north east of the city, nine people were injured: six Libyans and three Egyptians. The area is home to a significant number of Egyptian workers, both legal and illegal.
Today, for the third day in a row, a grad missile landed outside Benina Airport. The airport or, more likely, the adjoining airbase, is believed to have been the target.
[DAWN] GUJRAT: Police have finally locked away Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw! the Christian man who allegedly committed blasphemy at Majeedabad, Sara-e-Alamgir.
Three members of the suspect’s family, who were in the protective custody, were freed and may be handed over to federal minister Kamran Michael.
Acting District Police Officer Kamran Mumtaz confirmed the arrest of Nadeem Masih who was sent to Gujrat jail on judicial remand.
Sources told Dawn the suspect, who was booked on blasphemy charges under sections 295 C and 298 A on the report of Yasir Bashir, had been arrested in Lahore after local police made efforts to trace him in Jhelum, Gujranwala and Lahore.
Police had also recovered the mobile phone which Nadeem used for messaging and the initial inquiry revealed that he downloaded a blasphemous message from a Facebook page which was being operated from India. Gujrat SP Investigation Kamran Mumtaz (who is currently serving as the acting DPO) is formally investigating the case.
Police said they had set free the two women and the child and they were handed over to some elected representatives of the area.
Federal minister Kamran Michael on Wednesday again approached the local authorities to seek the custody of the family.

[RUDAW.NET] Dozens of families began returning to their homes in the southern countryside of Manbij. Forces of the Manbij Military Council have cleared the area of landmines, making it safe for families to return home.
The Manbij Military Council is an umbrella organization of local forces, largely consisting of Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) of the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF). It is overseeing the liberation of Manbij from the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... The citizens confirmed that the situation is safe again and life has returned to normal.
Remnants of war kill large numbers of civilians every year. The Islamic State routinely plants landmines and rigs improvised explosives devices to booby-trap civilian areas when they leave a region. Forces are working to clear Manbij of these explosives and make it safe for locals to return home.

[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: Corps commanders deliberated on Wednesday steps for preventing hard boyz from carrying out cross-border attacks in Afghanistan and strengthening border controls.
The discussion on international concerns about murderous Moslems using Pak soil for attacks in Afghanistan and management of the long mostly non-existent border with Afghanistan to prevent unauthorised cross-border movement took place at the Corps Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters, presided over by Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif ..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all.... The army chief directed his commanders and intelligence agencies to act against those using Pak soil for attacks in Afghanistan.
Although the military insists that it is already taking action against hard boyz of all "hues and colours", the categorical direction from the top has come amid mounting international pressure over concerns that Taliban and other Afghan terrorist groups still operated from the region cleared during the recently concluded kinetic operations in North Wazoo.

[Rasmussen Reports] Just days before the Republican National Convention is expected to formally nominate him for president, Donald Trump has taken his largest lead yet over Hillary Clinton.
The latest Rasmussen Reports weekly White House Watch survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds Trump with 44% support to Clinton’s 37%. Thirteen percent (13%) favor some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
This is the third week in a row that Trump has held the lead, although last week he was ahead by a statistically insignificant 42% to 40%. This week’s findings represent Trump’s highest level of support in surveys since last October and show Clinton continuing to lose ground.
Hillary Clinton said she views the battle against terrorism as a “war” against “radical jihadist” groups, in the aftermath of a Bastille Day attack in Nice, France.
In her first interview in the past eight years on Fox News’s O’Reilly Factor program, Clinton also called for an intelligence surge between the U.S. and its closest allies and “strong, tough diplomacy.”
“We've got to do more to understand that this is a war against these terrorist groups, the radical jihadist groups,” Clinton told O’Reilly.

[DAWN] Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Thursday said the people of Pakistain are appalled at the views expressed by certain American law makers in the US Congress regarding Pakistain.
The poor darlings.
"This seems to have become an unfortunate pattern of blaming Pakistain for the mistakes made by US policy makers on Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Moslem world, which the recent Chilcot inquiry revealed," Rabbani said in a statement.
Rabbani was responding to a US congressional panel which has demanded cutting off all US assistance to Pakistain to persuade Islamabad to act against the Afghan Taliban groups allegedly using its territory to launch operations into Afghanistan.
The Senate chairman alleged that such sentiments also demonstrate a marked lack of respect and recognition of the tremendous contribution made by the Pak people and the armed forces in its fight against terrorism.
"Given this context, it is not surprising that the people of Pakistain are now forced to ask the question whether they are dealing with friends or foes in the American congress," Rabbani said.
He said that such statements from some of the US politicians are "a case of the pot calling kettle black, given their deplorable track record of double standards on areas such as human rights" ...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state... "Their conspicuous silence on the killings of unarmed civilians in Kashmire, the treatment being meted out to African-American in their own country and the effort to impose India on the NSG in violation of all norms of nuclear non-proliferation reflect this," the chairman senate remarked.
Rabbani hoped that saner elements in US Congress will respond to such statements.

[ARA News] DAMASCUS – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Thursday executed a Syrian military pilot in the city of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, activists reported.
A warplane for the Syrian army, that took off from Hama airport on Thursday morning, has reportedly crashed near Mount Tharda in Deir ez-Zor province. Activists told ARA News that the crash was caused by a technical failure in the warplane and that the pilot survived the incident.
“However, the Syrian pilot Mahmoud Jubair was captured by ISIS fighters after landing with his parachute in Deir ez-Zor,” local media activist Qassif al-Ibrahim told ARA News on the phone.
Pilot Jubair, originally from Musiyaf town in Hama province, was publicly executed and crucified by ISIS militants in the Kinamat square in Deir ez-Zor city.
The pro-ISIS Amaq news agency released footages showing remnants of the crashed warplane and the execution of the pilot, saying he was responsible for bombing civilians in Deir ez-Zor and other parts of Syria.
[AlAhram] The Islamic State (IS) group claimed its fighters shot down a Syrian regime warplane near the eastern city of Deir Ezzor and killed its pilot, in statements on militant websites.
The extremist group said the MiG fighter jet was downed over the south of Deir Ezzor city after it had carried out several raids on villages in the area.
The pilot died when the plane crashed, it said.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that IS fighters shot down the regime plane as it flew over an area adjacent to a military airport.
IS group controls large parts of Deir Ezzor city and most of oil-rich Deir Ezzor province, but has so far failed to overrun the airbase.
The Observatory -- which relies on a network of sources inside Syria for its information -- says it determines what planes carried out raids according to their type, location, flight patterns and the munitions involved.
It said the plane downed on Thursday was the fourth shot down by IS group fighters since April.
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The chairman of the House Science Committee issued subpoenas Wednesday to two Democratic attorneys general over their pursuit of climate change dissenters after the prosecutors had refused to respond to the panel’s previous requests for information.
Chairman Lamar Smith, Texas Republican, announced that subpoenas have been sent to New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, as well as eight environmental groups, related to their "coordinated efforts to deprive companies, nonprofit organizations, scientists and scholars of their First Amendment rights."
"The attorneys general have appointed themselves to decide what is valid and what is invalid regarding climate change," Mr. Smith said at a presser with other committee Republicans. "The attorneys general are pursuing a political agenda at the expense of scientists’ right to free speech."
He was referring to a Democrat-led coalition of 17 attorneys general working with environmental groups to pursue fossil fuel companies, starting with ExxonMobil, as well as academics and free market think tanks, for possible fraud for challenging the catastrophic climate change narrative.
Those on the receiving end of the subpoenas disputed the committee’s jurisdiction over the state prosecutorial investigations. Both New York and Massachusetts have issued subpoenas as part of their probes.

Those 'rights' were just the product of a bunch of now dead old white men. It's a living constitution (its only convenient to those in power to say what ever they want it to say to keep the rubes in line). Next you're going to tell us that the 14th Amendment extolling 'equal before the law' means we can discriminate against the majority because of the color of their skin.

[RUDAW.NET] Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Light of the Alawites... has claimed that his regime could retake all of Syria in a "few months" if foreign countries halted their support of the murderous Moslems and rebels fighting it.
"If you [anti-Assad forces] don’t have that support [from outside powers], it [retaking all of Syria] won’t take more than a few months," he told NBC in an interview on Wednesday.
"The Syrian Army has made a lot of advances recently," he said. "It won’t take more than a few months."
Assad went on to accuse Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates... , Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... of supporting "terrorist" groups in his country.
He praised the Russians for their decisive intervention in the Syrian conflict late last year saying their support of Syria’s army "has tipped the scales against the terrorists."
"It was a crucial factor," he added.
Assad claimed the US is not being serious when it comes to destroying ISIS in Syria.

[AlArabiya] President Francois Hollande has announced that France will redeploy the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier this fall to step up the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and suggested an increase in ground troops for training and support to take back Mosul, in northern Iraq.
Hollande, speaking Wednesday ahead of the Bastille Day military parade Thursday, said “we must strike and destroy those who aggressed us here” in two sets of attacks last year.
Hollande said the November attacks in Paris claimed by ISIS “were decided” in Raqqa, Syria and Mosul in northern Iraq, the two strongholds of ISIS militants.
Those attacks killed 130 and 17 more died in two January attacks. With the carrier battle group in place, France can up its striking power in the US-led coalition carrying out strikes on ISIS.
Turkey will send another ship to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza before the Feast of Sacrifice holiday that will occur in September, a senior government official has vowed.
“Our prime minister has instructed the deputy prime minister responsible for [the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority] AFAD. We will prepare another ship before the Feast of Sacrifice to deliver food, medicine, diapers and hygienic equipment. Gaza has none of these things,” Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak told reporters on July 14.
Turkey shipped more than 10 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza before the Eid al-Fitr holiday, immediately after it signed a deal with Israel that allows the Turkish government to have access to the enclave. The deal ended a six-year old rift between the two sides over the Mavi Marmara incident in which Israeli commandos killed 10 Turkish nationals on board of a Gaza-bound vessel.
The aid Turkey plans to send will be enough for around three months, Kaynak said, stressing that Gaza particularly needs infrastructure and construction materials.
Turkey’s first delivery included 120,000 pieces of children’s clothing, 50,000 shoes, toys, drugs and food, Kaynak said, while praising the speed of the Israeli state in unloading the cargo for delivery to the people of Gaza.
Meanwhile, the deputy prime minister also said Turkey plans to fully complete the construction of a hospital and housing project for 320 homes in Gaza by the end of this year. He added that work on building an industrial zone in the Erez region of Gaza has been also kicked off by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).

[Ynet] The three teenagers who set fire to cars and spray painted hate speech in the town of Yaffa outside of Nazareth have had their ages and hometowns released by the court. They are all aged between 15 and 16, and they are from Karmiel, Elon Moreh, and Balfouria.
The arson occurred on June 10 in a commercial vehicles compound. Two vehicles were lit on fire. Three other vehicles had the words "price tag" and "Dire Revenge' spray painted on them.
Police arrived at the scene and collected evidence, including security camera footage. The footage showed the three teenagers trespassing onto the property and setting fire to the vehicles.
Shin Bet security forces interrogated the teenagers who admitted that they had been planning to torch Arab vehicles out of Dire Revenge for Paleostinian attacks on Jews. After the Sarona Market attacks, they decided to carry out their plan.
The Shin Bet investigation also revealed links between the teenagers and the Hilltop Youth movement.
Decyphering the attack and arresting the suspects is another step towards thwarting the activities of Jewish terror cells who have been carrying out attacks over the past two years," a Shin Bet statement said.
"The Shin Bet stresses that the enforcement measures which have been carried out over the past several months have led to a significant drop in the scope of violent attacks and terror against Paleostinians and Israeli-Arabs."
[IsraelTimes] Two men from the north of Israel have been charged with supporting the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... , with each of them separately making plans to join the jihadist group in Syria.
One man, Abed al Fatah, 24, from Nazareth, visited pro-jihadi websites, expressing support for the group online.
Earlier this year, according to a charge sheet, Fatah made contact with a former Islamic State fighter and made plans to join the group in Syria after he got married.
The second man, Ashraf Arbaye, 35, from nearby Shfaram, also made contact this year with a jjhadi known to help people sneak into Islamic State territory, according to the Shin Bet, which captured the two.
Arbaye is also accused of illegal arms possession, including selling guns.
The prosecution has asked a judge at an arraignment hearing to order the two kept in jail until the end of legal proceedings, Channel 2 reports.

I wonder why nobody from J street, etc. tried to join ISIS?
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man approached officers with a knife and was shot by police Thursday morning in the East Jerusalem refugee camp of Shuafat, police said.
Police and Border Police officers came to the refugee camp to arrest a suspect.
During the arrest, residents of Shuafat attempted to hinder the arrest, and at one point the Paleostinian approached the officers holding a knife and was shot, police said.
No copperswere maimed in the incident.
The Paleostinian man, identified by local media as Yihya Hijazi, was lightly injured and taken to a Jerusalem hospital after being treated by Magen David Adom medics, a police spokeswoman told The Times of Israel.
Police said they completed the arrest of the suspect and exited the refugee camp.
A Fatah party front man later told the Paleostinian Ma’an news agency that the man who was shot was trying to take a knife away from the suspect who was placed in durance vile Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! On Wednesday, Border Police officers operating in the Paleostinian town of al-Ram north of Jerusalem opened fire on a vehicle that officers said was accelerating toward them, killing one Paleostinian passenger, Anwar al Salaimeh, 22. A second person in the car was maimed. A third was unhurt, and was arrested by police and taken for questioning.
One of the border coppers opened fire, according to the army, after he "felt in danger."
An IDF statement said the incident was being investigated.
[IsraelTimes] White House front man Josh Earnest has indirectly compared new British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to Israeli envoy Ron Dermer when asked if the US administration would be able to work with someone who has been vocally critical of Obama.
"I got questions of this variety when Prime Minister Netanyahu had announced that Ambassador Dermer would be the Israeli envoy to the United States. What I said in that situation is what I’ll say here," Earnest says.
He then goes on to highlight the fact that the US and UK’s special relationship "transcends any single personality."
"The decision we will make is to seek to deepen and strengthen our special relationship with the UK, regardless of who serves in a position as prominent as foreign minister," he says.
Johnson, an eccentric former London mayor, known for his gaffes and buffoonery, was chosen Wednesday by Theresa May as the top diplomat to lead the country out of the EU. Among other outspoken remarks, he has refered to Obama as the part-Kenyan President [with an] ancestral dislike of the British Empire," and compared Hillary Clinton ... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another George C. Marshall ... to "a sadistic nurse in a mental hospital."
Dermer too has been known to be critical of Obama and the White House, though while using less salty language.
Earnest also said Obama had called to congratulate new British Prime Minister Theresa May.
"The president certainly looks forward to working with Prime Minister May in the six months he has remaining in office," Earnest said.
[DAWN] LAHORE: A group of lawyers on Wednesday acted as a shield for their client, former principal of a government college, facing embezzlement charges and did not allow personnel of police and Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to arrest him after a judge of the Lahore High Court dismissed his bail petition.
Zahid Butt, former principal of Government Science College, Wahdat Road, had filed a petition seeking bail in case of financial embezzlement in college’s accounts.
Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza heard the arguments of the suspect’s counsel and dismissed the petition.
Personnel of police and ACE already present in the court followed the suspect and tried to arrest him. However, a lie repeated often enough remains a lie... lawyers surrounded suspect Zahid Butt and did not let the personnel catch him claiming that such arrests could not be made on the court premises.
The lawyers also scuffled with the personnel and managed escape for their client.

These are the 'drip-drip-drip' leaks that are going to dog Hilarity the entire campaign.
According to The New York Post, FBI agents who worked on the Hillary Clinton ... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another James Baker ... email investigation are privately upset with the decision not to charge her and are quietly alleging that Attorney General Loretta Lynch must have struck a deal with her husband Bill Clinton ...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is... during their private meeting.
The Post cites anonymous sources in the FBI who claim that agents investigating Clinton were subject to higher-than-usual scrutiny. Agents had to sign "Case Briefing Acknowledgment" forms, non-disclosure agreements keeping them from speaking to anyone about the case unless called to testify. As a result, agents cannot go public with their opinions of the case, whether they agree with the final result or not.
Some of those agents privately tell the Post that they are "disappointed" with FBI director James Comey’s decision not to recommend charges. Some were even more vocal: "FBI agents believe there was an inside deal put in place after the Loretta Lynch/Bill Clinton tarmac meeting," said one source.
The Post of course offers no evidence that Lynch and Clinton actually struck any deal, but the fact that Comey’s subordinates would even allege as much is striking. Meanwhile, ...back at the cheese factory, there was only one thought in the mouse's mind: I can do this! I can do this! Then the trap sprung... a source in the Justice Department told the Post that many in the Department are "furious" at Comey, and that he "managed to piss off right and left."

Take a moment and consider "where" the meeting took place.
If you were saavy to all the ways collection technology could surreptitiously record a conversation or epic collusion, what safer place than a surprise encounter on a swept plane in a closed hangar secured by two separate security details from different agencies.

Georgia officials plan to carry out an execution Thursday that would set a modern record in the state — and, if the lethal injection happens, would be the country’s first in more than two months.
Authorities plan to execute John Wayne Conner, who was convicted of murder more than three decades ago, by lethal injection on Thursday night. The Supreme Court denied his requests for a stay in an order issued about 90 minutes after his lethal injection was originally scheduled to begin.
Conner’s execution would end a nationwide pause in executions that has lasted for nine weeks as the dwindling number of states still looking to put inmates to death have struggled to obtain lethal drugs and faced uncertainty stemming from court rulings and problems with earlier executions. Conner, if put to death, would be the 15th person executed in 2016.
Conner had appealed to the Supreme Court, arguing that he was sentenced to death at “a time when Georgia systemically failed to provide competent counsel at trial and on appeal.” His attorneys wrote in their court filings that he is “an undisputedly cognitively impaired man,” and said the idea of executing him more than three decades after his sentencing would be unconstitutional.
State officials responded in a filing saying that lower courts have “thoroughly reviewed his case and reliably found no constitutional violations” leading to Conner’s conviction or death sentence and urged the court to reject the request to stay his execution.
On Thursday night, the Supreme Court denied Conner’s request for a stay. The only recorded dissent came from Justice Stephen G. Breyer, who pointed to the long gap between Conner’s sentencing and scheduled execution and said he would have accepted the case “to consider this constitutional question.”
What constitutional question? That the defense team nearly succeeded in running out the clock?
Breyer, who has previously raised the issue of long waits before executions before, wrote in his brief dissent that he would have heard the case “for reasons I have previously expressed.”
Earlier on Thursday, the Georgia Supreme Court denied a stay request for Conner, 60, in a 5-to-2 decision.
According to the court, Conner was sentenced for killing J.T. White in 1982 after a fight sparked when White told Conner he wanted to have sex with Conner’s girlfriend. Conner then beat White, left him in a ditch and returned later to ensure that White was killed, the court said. A medical examiner later said that White drowned in his own blood and that portions of his jaw were broken apart when a blunt object hit his face, the Georgia Supreme Court added.
State records show that in the years before Conner was convicted of killing White, he had been in and out of prison, serving four different stints behind bars between 1974 and 1981.
A day before the court’s ruling, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles — the only entity in the state that can commute a death sentence or convert it to life in prison — denied Conner’s clemency request.
Conner’s execution was scheduled for 7 p.m. at a Georgia state prison in Jackson, about 50 miles southeast of Atlanta.
This lethal injection, if carried out, would be the sixth in Georgia this year, matching Texas for the most in the country during that time. That would also mark the most executions for Georgia in a single year since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976, according to the Death Penalty Information Center — a record that would be set with more than five months still left on the calendar. At least we lead the country in something.

Georgia crime of passion. 20 years no parole. Death seems excessive.
Liveblog of events and reports as they were released, with videos, from the Telegraph.
July 14th at 7:15 pm ET:
At least 73 people were killed and about 100 injured on Thursday night when a lorry drove into a crowd of Bastille Day revellers in an apparent terrorist attack in Nice, David Chazan reports.
A gunman reportedly got out of the lorry and fired into the crowd on the seafront Promenade des Anglais, an area popular with tourists in the Riviera resort, leaving dead and injured people lying in the street.
He was shot dead by police but there were reports that an accomplice had fled and that guns and grenades were found in the lorry.
The local Prefecture described the slaughter as a “terrorist attack” but an interior ministry spokesman, Pierre-Henry Brandet, said it was too early to be certain of the killers’ motives.
July 14th at 9:35 p.m. ET:
77 people reported killed
Counter-terrorist investigators leading the probe
Driver 'was 31-year-old man from Nice of Tunisian origin'
July 14th at 11:00 p.m. ET:
Death toll now at least 80; 20-plus are critically injured
Several of the dead are young children
Driver screamed "Allah Akbar" at crowd as he exited truck
Luxury Negresco Hotel turned into makeshift hospital ward
July 14th at 11:30 p.m. ET:
Vehicle speeds for 2km through busy crowd
July 15th at 8:30 am ET:
Driver was Tunisian-born Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31-year-old delivery driver
Described as "weird loner" who "became depressed" when his wife left him
French passport holder, lived in Nice
Known to the police for violence and using weapons, many arrests in past

FBI director Comey will refer to the driver as just extremely careless.
The words "Islamic Road Rage" will henceforth NOT be allowed by government officials.
Word is the truck was acquired legally.
But trucks no larger than 2 tons will be allowed on the road during major crowd events.
Oh, and white French folk are to blame per Hillary.

CBS radio said a few minutes ago, the driver had a hard life, recent divorce, fell asleep in his truck, got fired. Failed to mention the Allen Snackbar part.

[DAWN] LAHORE/OKARA: Police claimed on Wednesday to have killed six murderous Moslems of Al Qaeda in an encounter and seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including a rocket launcher.
Okara District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Faisal Rana claimed that personnel of police and intelligence agencies raided the farmhouse of Naeem Jhakhar in village 28/2R, Kulyana Estate, on Faisalabad ...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. [DAWN] LIKE most legislatures in the democratic world, committee hearings are mostly turgid, wonkish affairs that attract virtually no public interest.
But when known Pakistain-bashers gathered in the US Congress for a joint subcommittee hearing provocatively titled ’Pakistain: Friend or Foe in the Fight against Terrorism?’ there was certainly going to be a spectacle.
Yet, what transpired during the hour-long hearing was extraordinary even by the already low standards that could be expected from a cast of characters that usually chides, berates and threatens Pakistain.
Not only were there epithets casually uttered and incendiary allegations tossed around like irrefutable fact, the range of punitive measures discussed bordered on the pathological.
One of the so-called expert witnesses called to testify on Pakistain suggested a travel ban to the US for Pak citizens, including students.
Earlier in the session, a congressman made a number of wild accusations about militancy in Sindh. By the time a notorious Pakistain-bashing congressman spewed hate about Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... and the Pak state, the reasonable observer could have been forgiven for wondering if a collective madness had overcome the room.
To be sure, there are continuing and important questions to be asked of the Pak state’s anti-militancy policy.
The army leadership has in the last week explicitly indicated that it will act against those using Pak soil for attacks inside Afghanistan, but that extraordinary commitment remains to be tested.
Yet, no sober, realistic or honest appraisal of what has transpired in Afghanistan over the past decade and a half can possibly lay the bulk of the blame for that country’s continuing instability and insecurity at Pakistain’s doorstep.
Indeed, when asked about his and the US government’s support for Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai ... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use... as the post-Taliban leader of Afghanistan, former ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad offered a weak defence, citing the need for a Pakhtun leader in Afghanistan.
But few American officials would deny that the Karzai era proved to be hugely damaging for Afghanistan itself -- the opportunity to build institutions and a somewhat viable state was lost to the preferences and choices of Mr Karzai who put self-interest first.
Moreover, no rational outside observer would suggest that the US has ever had a viable or realistic strategy in Afghanistan. No one should forget Gen Stanley McChrystal’s infamous "We’ve got a government in a box, ready to roll in" boast.
The arguments over Afghanistan, what went wrong and who is to blame can be endless because they are mostly rooted in political and strategic preferences of those arguing.
What is undeniable, however, is that wild and vicious comments from the US Congress have the potential to stoke anti-Americanism here in Pakistain and make it significantly more difficult for reasonable voices on both sides to engage in healthy debate.
Democratic norms prevent calling for a ban on political speech, but perhaps sensible voices in the US can speak out with clarity on Pakistain right now.

Citizens and customs officials managed to prevent a terror attack at Turkey’s Gürbulak customs gate to Iran, after noticing a cable under the ground that turned out to be part of a bomb mechanism tied to one ton of explosives.
Customs and Trade Minister Bülent Tüfekçi said on July 14 that the border gate in the eastern province of Ağrı was reopened after the mechanism was dismantled.
Acting upon a notice by citizens, gendarmerie units in the province first closed the gate in both directions and inspected the area, finding a mechanism tied to two hidden propane cylinders.

Not clear. One ton bomb (presumably some kind of high explosive with a LOT of stuff in it), or a ton of propane cylinders? Both?
Seems like a lot of work to bury that sort of thing while the customs guy is taking a leak.
And the citizens noticed first?
Maybe this is a gate where, if somebody wants to cross and declare his booze or whatever, they call somebody to show up sometime this week.
Not getting this.

[Ynet] Two soldiers have been arrested in Ivory Coast accused of failing to denounce suspected members of an al Qaeda cell that killed 19 people in a March attack on a beach resort town, military officials said on Thursday.
The raid on Grand Bassam, 40 km (25 miles) from the commercial capital, Abidjan, by al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), the jihadist group's North African affiliate, was the furthest yet from its traditional desert base.
Authorities in Ivory Coast and neighbouring Mali have arrested a number of suspects since the attack.

"The Russian air force has increased the intensity of its strikes against targets of the armed units of international terrorist organizations near the city of Palmyra," the ministry said in a statement Thursday on its Facebook page.
"Since July 12, Russian air force planes have conducted more than 50 strikes against Islamic State personnel and material in this area."
Six Tupolev bombers flew out of an airbase in Russia on Thursday morning and conducted strikes east of Palmyra, near the cities of Arak and Sukhna, as well as in the Homs region, the statement said.
The ministry said the strikes had destroyed "a command centre, a field camp for IS fighters, two oil processing plants and a large quantity of the enemy's personnel and military hardware."
IS fighters were forced out of Palmyra by Syrian regime forces in March with Russian backing, but Arak and Sukhna remain out of the government's control.
Arak, located 35 kilometres (21 miles) east of Palmyra, is a small town that has strategic importance because of a nearby oil field, while Sukhna, 70 km northeast of Palmyra, is an IS bastion.

Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead... in Moscow on Thursday in Washington's latest bid to revive the stalled Syrian grinding of the peace processor.
Kerry's visit to Russia -- his second this year -- comes as bloodshed continues in defiance of a series of failed ceasefires.
Russia and the US appear increasingly at odds over the way forward amid heightened diplomatic tensions.

It wasn't a "stampede" where people trample each other. It was a "crowd crush" where the volume of people exceeds the available space. People get their chests compressed and die of asphyxiation.
The 2015 tragedy was caused by a Saudi Royal who drove through the procession route, blocking a road and causing the crowd to pile up and crush. GPS won't help one bit with this.
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] An official in ARG Presidential Palace has said there are no plans to revive peace talks with the Taliban group as efforts to bring the group have not yielded any positive result.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani ...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. .. ’s spokeman Haroon Chakhansuri has told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that a four-nation group comprising Afghanistan, Pakistain, China and the United States has no plans to meet again after previous rounds of meetings produced no results.
Chakhansuri further added "there is no set time" for another meeting of the group.
The Afghan government was expecting to participate in direct peace talks with the Taliban group earlier in March this year after the Quadrlateral Coordinatin Group started talks to revive the Afghan peace talks.
Afghanistan, Pakistain, China and US officials met for five times in Islamabad and Kabul ...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either.... and called on Taliban group to participate in direct peace talks.
However, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone... the Taliban group rejected the offer and opted to continue insurgency in the country by announcing its annual spring offensive in April this year.
The group staged numerous deadly attacks across the country including a major attack on VIP protection unit in Kabul which left at least 64 people dead and over 300 others maimed.
The attack by the Taliban group forced the Afghan government to start a military crackdown against the groups pursuing violence and urged Pakistain to take actions against the same groups in its soil.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A US politician has said Pakistain is using terrorism as a tool for its strategic needs as a handful of US politicians sought additional measures against Pakistain insisting that the country has failed to take action against terrorist groups.
Keating is a ranking member of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Non-Proliferation and Trade.
He said Pakistain used terrorism as a tool for its strategic needs and there was no reason to believe that it would change its policies.
Two of the top al-Qaeda leaders have been killed in Pakistain, Keating said, adding that the arms supply to Pakistain would be used against India.
The subcommittee held a hearing on the Pakistain-US relations and had invited former diplomats and experts.
In his testimony, the former top American diplomat, Zalmay Khalilzad,
...the Afghan-born American academic who served President George W. Bush as ambassador to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the UN...
said "Pakistain now is a state sponsor of terrorism. There is no question that it supports the Haqqani Network, which we regard as a terrorist network."
"It is also clear that it provides sanctuary and support to the Taliban," he said while asking the administration to change its policy towards Pakistain."We also need to suspend all military and non-education assistance," he said in his testimony during the hearing titled ’Pakistain: Friend or Foe in the Fight Against Terrorism?’
"Patience is growing very thin," Congressman Matt Salmon, Chairman of the Asia and Pacific Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee said.
Congressman Brad Sherman, ranking member of the subcommittee, said "Those who suggest giving aid to Pakistain need to give justification for using the tax payers’ money."
This comes as the Afghan officials have long been raising concerns regarding the presence of the Taliban group and Haqqani network leadership councils in Pakistain.
They are saying that the two groups are having leadership councils based in both Quetta and Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Someone once said once you open the gates of Hell, you don't get to choose which demons emerge...
[ARA News] QAMISHLI – CIA-director John O. Brennan said that the Syrian Kurds are an effective partner in the fight against ISIS, but that nevertheless the US continues to see Turkey as a partner, and the PKK as a terrorist organization.
The CIA-chief Brennan on Wednesday spoke at a conference organized by the Brookings Institute about the current challenges for the CIA, and called Turkey a partner against ISIS in despite of disagreements.
“(…) [Turkey] they have some very legitimate concerns about terrorism that has been perpetrated against Turkish citizens by the PKK [Kurdistan Workers Party] which is a terrorist organization,” the CIA chief said.
“And I think as you are eluding to the Syrian Kurds in the northern part of Syria straddle that border and have been in fact a partner in some of the coalition efforts to try to uproot and destroy ISIL [ISIS] in that area,” he concluded.
“The Turks are very close partners of ours on a number of fronts. As we know that Turkey has been the ingress and egress point for so many members of ISIL, foreign fighters and others that have joined,” the CIA chief said, about the thousands of foreign fighters that crossed the Turkish borders into Syria since 2011, posing huge security risks to Europe.
The complexities of the Syrian crisis have posed a huge challenge for the US intelligence agency. “I must say in my experience working in Middle Eastern issues Syria is the most complex, complicated issue I’ve ever had to deal with. Because there are so many internal players, so many external players, so many goals and objectives that are frequently in tension with one another,” he said about the Syrian war.
Nevertheless, Brennan said that despite of disagreements with Turkey over the US policy that is heavily reliant on the Syrian Kurds, as one of the most effective fighters against the extremist ISIS group, the CIA will continue to work with Turkey.
“We are very open and honest with the Turks when we have disagreements and we think that they should be doing more. They certainly have expressed their disagreements with us and disapproval of some of the initiatives that we the U.S. government have embarked on but this is what close partners and allies do which is to have that open dialogue,” he stated.
Moreover, the CIA chief said there are a lot of debates and even controversy about the government ruled by the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“But we do have regular interaction with the Turks. Now there are somethings that are going on inside the Turkish political system that are subject to a lot of debate and even controversy, but I’ll just leave it that we do work closely with the Turks,” he concluded.

Instead, the Champ delivers to Congress a State of the Union address once a year which is little more than platitudes and lies while giving our congress critters no opportunity to question it.
Muh good fren and colleague from Rio Linda is mistaken in his assertions. It is well known his Momma (a grand and notable woman I admire greatly) would not let him out of the house without his special instructions.
Chair! Chair!
I do ask the first minister what instructions is he referring to?
The right honorable member from Metcalf must know that our esteemed colleague from Rio Linda requires requires instruction on the best way to pour piss from a boot. His gracious mother prints them on his boot heels, sadly this does not always suffice.
[LATIMES] The veteran FBI agent and a local sheriff’s deputy took no chances when they got a credible tip about a potential terrorist.
In a joint operation, they ran his name through a maze of federal criminal and terrorism databases and scrutinized his telephone records for suspicious contacts.
Without a warrant, they couldn’t read his emails or listen to his calls. But they watched him from unmarked vehicles to track his daily routine and to see whom he met.
They deployed two confidential informants more than a dozen times to secretly record his conversations. They interviewed him twice and convinced him to provide a written statement -- in which he admitted he previously had lied to agents.
In the end, after a counter-terrorism investigation that stretched from May 2013 to March 2014, the agent and his supervisor concluded that Omar Mateen was not a threat and closed the case.

Authorities in the province of Diyarbakir imposed the lockdown as security forces searched for members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the hills and woods near the town of Silvan, the provincial governor said in a statement.
The government says thousands of murderous Moslems and about 500 soldiers and coppers have been killed since the ceasefire broke down last year. Human rights groups say about 400 civilians have also been killed.
People will not be allowed to enter or leave the area near Silvan during the curfew, the governor's statement said.
"It is important for citizens to follow the ban for the security of their lives and property," it said.

[AnNahar] Paleostinian factions and the residents of the Ein el-Hellhole Paleostinian refugee camp have reportedly received warnings from Lebanese sides that some gunnies are seeking to enable jihadist groups to seize control of the camp, which is the largest in Leb.
"There are terrorist preparations to overrun some areas in the Ein el-Hellhole camp and the pro-Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. "Should the situation deteriorate and explode, it will lead to severe repercussions for the camp's residents, who will be the first casualty of the plots of these groups," the sources warned, calling on Paleostinians to "protect the camp and expel the malicious terrorist elements from it."
The sources also called for "avoiding another Nahr al-Bared experience," referring to the devastating 2007 conflict between the Lebanese army and the Death EaterFatah al-Islam A Syrian-incubated al-Qaeda work-alike that they think can be turned off if no longer needed to keep the Lebanon pot stirred. group, which razed the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp to the ground.
"The factions and the residents must prevent these groups from achieving the objective of turning the camp into an emirate for them and a launching pad for creating conflict between the camp and its neighbors," the sources added.
The sources, however, reassured that "the army is thoroughly monitoring what is happening in the Ein el-Hellhole camp and is still counting on the rational parties to defuse the unrest plots and eliminate its reasons through a series of measures."
"The army will not allow terrorism to find a safe haven in the camp or in any area in Leb," the sources stressed.
"It is totally unacceptable to turn the Ein el-Hellhole camp into a hub for terrorism that might spread to blow up entire Leb and any attempt will be confronted with all due force and resolve," they added.
