Could Trump have been right? Propaganda film suggests Iran DID videotape cash-drop plane and photograph shipment of cash during January prisoner swap
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] February documentary that aired on Iranian state-run TV shows nighttime flight, pallet of cash matching prisoner-swap scenario reported this week

  • Donald Trump claimed three times this week that he had seen similar footage and that Iran had filmed the cash transfer to embarrass America

  • He walked back that claim Friday morning, saying he had only seen archival footage of a different plane delivering hostages safely to Geneva

  • He may have been right without knowing it: Propaganda broadcast shows the images and boasts the deal was great for Iran but terrible for the U.S.

#1  It was a ransom and it was in cash.

Further why was it in Euros and Swiss Francs...to make it hard to trace and harder to use to identify recipients.

Aha, so the empty suit in the White House is now funding Hezbollah and Al Quds?

If it were $USD we could track it pretty easily but I don't think we could record the serial number on all of these bills in such a short period of time.

And why are we just finding out about this? It happened in January?? The news makes it sound like it was last week...convenient way of keeping the bad news out of the way until after the DNC.

Air Algerie flight declares mid-air emergency on journey from Algiers to Marseille 'then disappears from radar'
Breaking story: post comments and updates in this post please. We'll follow today.
A passenger jet has declared a mid-air emergency and seemingly disappeared from radar, according to reports.

The Boeing 736 took off from Algiers this afternoon on a flight to Marseille but let out an emergency call shortly after take-off. Flight radar showed the plane turn around and head back towards the point where it took-off but before arriving, the jet disappeared from radar.
Update at 1135 CT: returned to Algiers and landed safely. Apparent "technical difficulties".

U.S. Pilot’s Remains Found in Iraq After 18 Years
Navy officials announced early Sunday that Marines in the western Iraqi province of Anbar had found remains that have been positively identified as those of an American fighter pilot shot down in the opening hours of the first Persian Gulf war in 1991.

The Navy pilot, Capt. Michael Scott Speicher, was the only American missing in action from that war. Efforts to determine what happened to him after his F/A-18 Hornet was shot down by an Iraqi warplane on Jan. 17, 1991, had continued despite false rumors and scant information.

Conflicting reports from Iraq had, over the years, fueled speculation that the pilot, promoted to captain from lieutenant commander in the years he was missing, might have been taken into captivity either after parachuting from his jet or after a crash landing. But the evidence in Iraq suggests he did not survive and was buried by Bedouins shortly after he was shot down.

An official statement released early Sunday said that Marines in western Iraq had received information from local residents last month about the crash of an American jet and the burial of the pilot.

“One of these Iraqi citizens stated that they were present when Captain Speicher was found dead at the crash site by Bedouins and his remains buried,” the statement said. “The Iraqi citizens led U.S. Marines to the site.”

A search of the area last week recovered remains that included bones and skeletal fragments, which were flown to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware for scientific examination. Positive identification was made by visual and radiographical comparisons of Captain Speicher’s dental records with the jawbone recovered at the site.

“Our Navy will never give up looking for a shipmate, regardless of how long or how difficult that search may be,” said Adm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations, in a statement. “We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Captain Speicher and his family for the sacrifice they have made for our nation and the example of strength they have set for all of us.”

Although the dental records confirmed the identity of the dead pilot, further DNA tests will be conducted to compare the remains with samples previously provided by family members, the statement said.

Cindy Laquidara, a spokeswoman for the Speicher family, told The Associated Press that relatives had learned on Saturday of the discovery. “The family’s proud of the way the Defense Department continued on with our request” to not abandon the search, she said. “We will be bringing him home.”

Ms. Laquidara said the family would say more after being briefed by Pentagon officials, but did not know when that would be.

After the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the collapse of Saddam Hussein’s government, a joint team from the Central Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency sifted through recovered documents, interrogated prisoners of war and searched possible crash sites to try to determine Captain Speicher’s fate.

Defense Department officials had been skeptical about reports that Captain Speicher was alive. Some of those reports were haunting, including one story that his initials or name had been found scratched into the wall of a cell in an Iraqi prison.

A crash site had been identified as early as 1993, when a group of Qataris that had been on a hunting trip in remote west-central Iraq handed over some materials they found that later were identified as coming from his jet.

In December 1995, the United States, working through the International Committee of the Red Cross, was able to send a team to the crash site to investigate. They found no ejection seat and no signs of a body or bones.

#1  Bedouins just want to be left alone.

If you're polite, they'll invite you into their tent, serve you tea and cakes, and protect you to the death while in their residence.

If they find a body, they'll say prayers, bury it, and then move on.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Suspects arrested for possession of a human head
The Durban Central South African Police placed in durance vile
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
two suspects aged 24 and 20 yesterday. The suspects were found in possession of a human head. Apparently, the suspects attempted to sell the head to traditional healers.

The truth is that in South African, selling of human body parts is nothing new. It is a barbaric behavior, based on traditional history. The traditional healers use the body parts to concoct up medicine and sell to ignorant, gullible people. Ignorant people who believe that medicine made by traditional healers have astronomical powers that will heal, create wealth and stamina. There is nothing civilized about this, and people need to understand that there is no power in "muti." The foolish people are throwing away the little bit of money they have, expecting a miracle.

It is inhumane for humans to cut off body parts from another person just for the purpose of selling to traditional leaders. People do this for money or drugs, and it is criminal that in a democratic country, people are still living like primitive savages.

French cement company in Syria buys oil from ISIS – Documents
A French cement company based in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo province is buying fuel and oil from the Islamic State, documents obtained by Zaman al-Wasl showed.

The data, emails and documents revealed that Lafarge Cement Syria has been buying fuel from ISIS, besides negligence of safety procedures for the 2500 workers in the factory, as well as using dangerous chemical can be used for making explosives and fuel for rockets, added to discrimination in paying ransoms of millions of pounds to free Alawite abducted workers, ignoring other abductees.

Frederic Jolibois, CEO at Lafarge Cement Syria, refused to comment on the summary letter sent by Zaman Al Wasl, "our company does not reply to rumors and guessing" confirming that Lafarge was keen to protect workers and safty was their priority, therefore they had evacuated to plant situated in Jalibeh town, 160 km away from Aleppo, in September 2014.

Zaman Al Wasl opens an investigation about Lafarge Cement Syria company and publishes it in parts, in this part concentrating on the relationship between the company and the Islamic State and the mediators between both of them. Lafarge is a French industrial company specialising in three major products: cement, construction aggregates, and concrete.

On July 10, 2015, Lafarge merged with Holcim, a Swiss cement company. On July 15, the new company was officially launched around the globe under the name of Lafarge-Holcim, creating a new leader in the Building Materials sector. It has 2500 factory around the world in 90 countries worth a profit of $32 billion a year, the number of worker reaches to 115 thousand workers.

Lafarge Cement Syria was established in Jalbiyeh town, between Ras Alain and Ayn al-Arab « Kobani », 160 km away from Aleppo, production started in 2010 at volume between 2.5 and 3 million tonnes.

Lengthy Article.

Clinton's Former Employer, LaFarge, Faces Allegations of Funding ISIS
[Oberver] LaFarge CEO Frederic Jolibois may have negotiated with ISIS in order to continue doing business in Syria.

One of the most troubling revelations exposed by Wikileaks has been completely ignored by mainstream media. On August 1, Wikileaks shared an article on Twitter from a French publication which outlined the connections between LaFarge, a French company linked to funding ISIS in Syria, and Hillary Clinton.

"Apart from being a regular donor to the Clinton Foundation, Clinton herself was a director of Lafarge in the early 1990s, and did legal work for the firm in the 1980s," The Canary reported on July 29.

In June 2016, one of France’s most well-known publications, Le Monde, released an investigative report accusing LaFarge of making payments to ISIS. The connection was first made in February 2016, when a Syrian opposition publication revealed emails and documents it obtained from LaFarge, implicating CEO Frederic Jolibois negotiated with ISIS in order for the company to continue doing business in Syria.

Between 1990 and 1992, Clinton served on Lafarge’s Board of Directors. "Shortly before Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992, Lafarge was fined $1.8 million by the Environmental Protection Agency for pollution violations at its Alabama plant. A year later, the Clinton administration reduced that fine to less than $600,000," reported The Washington Post in 2007. While Clinton served on the board for Lafarge, the company was embroiled in controversy over its use of hazardous waste to fuel its U.S. cement plants.

Wikileaks also recently tweeted a link to an email between Clinton and her aide, Cheryl Mills, outlining a brag sheet of how deeply involved Clinton was with the regime change in Libya while she served as secretary of state. The political vacuum that intervention caused in Libya was cited by President Obama as the biggest mistake of his presidency, in which the country has become a haven for ISIS and other terrorist organizations to thrive.

Despite criticism, Hillary Clinton has attempted to distort her role in Libya into endearing foreign policy experience and has downplayed the disaster in Libya. "You know, the United States was in Korea--and still is--for many years. We are still in Germany. We are still in Japan. We have a presence in a lot of places in the world that started out as a result of conflict," she said during a CNN presidential town hall in February 2016, dismissing the notion that Libya was an immense failure on her part.

Wikileaks’ Julian Assange has been a vocal opponent of Clinton’s foreign policies. "I have had years of experience in dealing with Hillary Clinton and have read thousands of her cables. Hillary lacks judgement and will push the United States into endless, stupid wars which spread terrorism," he wrote in a statement posted on Wikileaks in February 2016. "Her personality combined with her poor policy decisions have directly contributed to the rise of ISIS."

Assange recently claimed Wikileaks will release emails implicating Clinton in arming jihadists (ISIS) to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Hafez al-Assad, before the Benghazi controversy.

Since the Democratic convention has ended, mainstream media has reverted its attention almost exclusively to Donald Trump. Three additional, prominent DNC staffers formally resigned in the wake of the DNC email scandal, yet the content of the DNC emails--and those released by Guccifer 2.0, further corroborating the DNC’s collusion with the Clinton campaign--are receiving only a fraction of the attention warranted.

The recent DNC resignations may be in anticipation of more releases from Wikileaks, likely to incite further controversy over the DNC’s role in securing the Democratic presidential nomination for Hillary Clinton. During the Democratic convention, it was reported that both the Clinton campaign and other Democratic Party organizations were hacked. The Clinton campaign and the DNC have largely blamed Russia for the hacks in an attempt to distract from the content of the leaks.

The worst is yet to come for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party.

Additional, same topic.

Per Clinton Foundation website, LaFarge is a donor. (page 6 of 12)

Stop that December 1 influx.

Government
USAF Goes Around Congress to Drive a Stake in the A-10
Article in the Blaster blog by Chuck Spinney, colleague of the late great John Boyd. 8th article in a series.
The intervention of Congress temporarily has thwarted the AF game plan by directing the Pentagon's Director of Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) to conduct a realistic fly-off and shoot-off between the A-10 and the F-35. The sensible goal of this approach is to use the scientific method to determine empirically which plane is more effective in supporting ground troops in combat. Currently that test is scheduled for 2018. That the Air Force was forced by Congress to conduct such a common-sense test is a telling message in itself.

But there is more. An A-10/F-35 fly-off in 2018, while well intentioned and entirely appropriate, is also a charade. The F-35 will not be cleared by 2018 to carry and fire the weapons appropriate for the Close Air Support mission, including its necessary command and control avionics. Even if one makes the patently absurd assumption that there are no more delays in the problem-plagued F-35 program, the OT&E report evaluating the F-35's capability to carry and fire these weapons in anything approaching a realistic CAS scenario will not be available until 2021. How can the F-35 pass a fly-off/shoot-off comparative CAS test against the A-10 before we know what, if any, CAS capabilities are possessed by the F-35? To ask such a question is to answer it, so don't expect any meaningful fly-off/shoot-off to be conducted in 2018.

Nevertheless, this mismatch between the F-35's availability and capability, has not deterred the AF from its goal of trashing the A-10 ‐ literally.

Notwithstanding, the speed bump imposed by Congress, as my good friend James Stevenson explains below, the AF is making the retirement of the A-10 in favor of the F-35 inevitable by quietly destroying those A-10s now in long term storage. There are currently 291 A-10s in active service, with another 99 A-10s in storage in the Arizona desert (including 50 recently modernized A-10Cs with gobs of flight time left on them). But the Air Force is sending these stored aircraft (including A-10Cs) to the breakers. In so doing, the AF is deliberately reducing its ability to maintain the existing active A-10 force structure over the long term.

In short, the quiet AF strategy of destroying perfectly good A-10s guarantees the F-35 will replace the A-10, thereby rendering Congress's direction for a fly-off/shoot-off irrelevant. This makes a mockery of the powers assigned to the Congress in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution ‐ a document every member of the AF has sworn unconditionally to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic.

#1  Of course the ideal solution of just transfering the 'Hog to the Army and Marines is something not to be even discussed. Hell give them the AC-1390's too. Along with the Air Scouts funding.

#2  Areed. We should initiate pilotless aircraft (no more POWs) for the Air Farce and turn over the A-10 to the Army and Marines if they can use them. Barring that, I would not scrap the planes as surely they could be sold or donated to some foreign service (e.g., Chad, Nigeria, Kenya) that could use them.

#3  There's a book out (Red Platoon) by Clint Romesha, MOH and one of the defenders of COP Keating in 2009, describing in some detail what a happy event the arrival of Apaches and A-10's over the battlefield was. (Apparently, watching a couple of hundred bad guys finding out what a 30mm Gatling gun can do tends to improve morale.) Whatever the brass says, I don't think your Army and Marine infantry would be real happy about standing down the A-10's.
Posted by: Matt || 08/06/2016 11:49 Comments || Top||

#4  The F35 will never provide the ground support the A10 provides. This is their game. They will do the fly off. They will show people that don't understand ground support that it will work. Congress will swallow and it will be done. The F16 was sold to congress as a ground support aircraft, the F14 was sold as a ground support aircraft, the F15 was sold as a ground support aircraft. Then after they bought them they had them modified to carry a different payload. The weapons necessary for ground support had their install mods removed. When you call them out on it they say it can do that mission but we don't have any in that configuration and it will take months to modify them. Its a bullshit game and our soldiers are the pawn. They should disband all ground support aircraft from the Air Farce. Give it to the Army and Marines.

#5  If they want a meaningful 'fly-off' (they don't, of course) it needs to run for multiple sorties of the same aircraft - maybe 10? - over a one week time. Doesn't matter if the F-35 is better (unlikely) on one pass if it can't show up again for a week. And the test has to include being shot at and still being able to go around again.

#6  These are the same guys who back in the sixties didn't think a fighter should have a gun and that missiles at 100 miles, via the AARAM missile was how dogfighting would be done in the future.

These idiots in R&D seem to think they can do close air support from 20,000 with smart airplanes and smarter bombs. They are essentially raccoons distracted by the latest shiny object.

As for close air support mods, sell them to the Israelis and wait a year and they will have all the close air support mods you want. Funny, I don't think our Air Farce has the stomach for close air support.

SO why don't we just transfer the A-10 to the Marines I am sure they would LOVE to get rid of those decrepit old Harriers and early model Hornets.

The aviator folks at Pendleton that I talked to about 10 years ago would've loved to have the A-10. Unfortunately the USMCA today doesn't have the resources to keep their existing birds flying or pilots properly trained. Probably by design.

Hopefully that changes soon.

Africa Subsaharan
New Boko Haram leader is son of founder
[UPI] The man named by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
as Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
's new leader is the son of the latter group's founder, Mohammed Yusuf.

Abu Musab al-Barnawi was declared "governor" of the Nigerian organization in an Islamic State magazine. He is the son of Yusuf, who founded Boko Haram in 2002 and was killed by police in 2009, CNN reported Friday, citing an unidentified source.

Following a leadership split in the sect last month, which saw the rise of Boko Haram front man Abu Barnawi at the expense of longtime acknowledged leader Abubakar Shekau, Barnawi spoke in an interview of a change in direction. Christians, and not Moslems, will be Boko Haram's target, he said.

He told the magazine the plan is now to "blow up every church that we are able to reach" instead of sectarian violence against other Moslems.

"[Westerners] strongly seek to Christianize the society ... they exploit the condition of those who are displaced under the raging war, providing them with food and shelter and then Christianizing their children," Barnawi said in an interview translated by SITE Intelligence Group.

He added Boko Haram would strike back by "booby-trapping and blowing up every church that we are able to reach and kill all those who we find from the citizens of the cross."

Barnawi has maintained a low profile within Boko Haram, a contrast to the fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
and hot-tempered Shekau, BBC News reported.

Shekau still maintains some power, with loyal soldiers and crucially, control of schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria's Chibok forest in 2014. The kidnapping of the girls brought global condemnation and attention to Boko Haram, and the abductees are seen as a powerful bargaining chip, CNN said.

Baltimore County Police: Officer Fired Shot That Wounded 5-Year-Old
[BALTIMORE.CBSLOCAL] Investigators now believe an officer fired the shot that maimed a 5-year-old boy during a deadly standoff between his mother and police at a Randallstown apartment complex on Monday, authorities said.

There is a continuing investigation into the shooting, which followed a 7-hour standoff at an apartment complex on Sulky Court, that killed 23-year-old Korryn Gaines and injured her son.

"There were times that we thought this would come to a peaceful resolution," Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson said at a Tuesday news conference. "There were other times she was highly agitated. The entire time throughout the afternoon, she would repeatedly point the gun at her personnel."

Arabia
Soddys evacuate Jizan in advance of Yemeni troops
Saudi Arabia has launched a forced evacuation of locals in its Jizan region, as Yemeni forces advance deeper into the Saudi territory in response to Riyadh's war on their country.

Yemen’s Khabar news agency website reported the development on Friday with pictures of departing locals as well as a video showing Saudi military personnel arguing with locals who resisted the order to leave their homes. Saudi evacuates Jizan

The report said villages and towns affected by the order are closest to the common border with Yemen.

The Saudi military has threatened to strip locals of their citizenship and invalidate their identification and travel documents if they refuse to leave. Saudi forces have also deployed to residential areas in the region in anticipation of a major escalation.

Some activists say the Saudi regime has already cut the locals’ access to food resources and water reservoirs and limited their freedom of movement.

Yemen’s army and Houthi Ansarullah fighters have been retaliating for Saudi attacks on their country.

ESPN Loses 4 Million Subscribers In Past Year
I've heard worse news this year
In the past five years ESPN has lost 11,346,000 subscribers according to Nielsen data.

If you combine that with ESPN2 and ESPNU subscriber losses this means that ESPN has lost over a billion dollars in cable and satellite revenue just in the past five years, an average of $200 million each year. That total of a billion dollars hits ESPN in the pocketbook not just on a yearly basis, but for every year going forward.

It's gone forever.

That's not just bad, this is downright cataclysmic.

And it's getting worse.

In the past year ESPN lost 4.159 million subscribers, that's another $350 million in lost revenue across the ESPN family of networks.

ESPN presently has 88,781,000 subscribers, down from 101,000,000 subscribers five years ago. Given that the rate of lost subscribers appears to be accelerating, if we're conservative and just project ESPN loses 3 million subscribers a year for the next five years, then the worldwide leader in sports will have just 73 million subscribers in 2021.

At that point in time ESPN would be roughly break even with the amount of money its paying for sports rights and the amount of money ESPN brings in via subscriber revenue.

So where are all these subscribers going? A good theory posited by SportsTVRatings is that the loss is happening three ways, 1. death, 2. cord nevers and 3. cord cutters. Let me unpack those three: first, older people are dying off and they're more likely to subscribe to cable than younger people, second, many younger people don't subscribe to cable at all, hence they're cord nevers and third, many of you are also cutting the cord to save money. Combine all three of these factors and all are working against the cable and satellite bundle.

So let's talk about the ESPN business model.

I've written a ton about this, but on its most basic level every channel has a cost in your cable bill. You don't realize it because your cable bill isn't broken down by individual channel cost, but ESPN is by far the most expensive channel on all our cable bills. (ESPN is the most expensive channel costing $6.60 a month. The second most expensive? TNT, which costs just $1.65 a month). Every single cable and satellite subscriber pays around $80 a year for ESPN. With 88.7 million subscribers, that means ESPN pockets around $7 billion a year just in cable and satellite subscription fees.

So what makes sports on cable TV a bubble? The fact that ESPN uses the money it receives from cable and satellite subscribers to buy sports rights. And the vast majority of those cable and satellite subscribers never watch ESPN. Your Aunt Gladys, who hasn't watched a sporting event in a decade, pays the same amount for ESPN as you do.

What does ESPN do with that money from you and Aunt Gladys and its other 88 million subscribers? It buys sports rights.

Presently ESPN is on the hook for the following yearly rights payments: $1.9 billion a year to the NFL for Monday Night Football, $1.47 billion to the NBA, $700 million to Major League Baseball, $608 million for the College Football Playoff, $225 million to the ACC, $190 million to the Big Ten, $120 million -- and potentially growing -- to the Big 12, $125 million a year to the PAC 12, and hundreds of millions more to the SEC.
This weekend, the NFL opening exhibition game, the Hall of Fame Game will be on cable only. The travails ESPN is having in losing screwing its customers factors into this decision, without a doubt.

I've always liked intelligent analysis shows and the weird sports but it changed into a channel of all big sports all the time. Then they tried to shove the WNBA down our throats, then the racial grievance mongers like Stephen A and the NBA.

Pretty much down to one show now, Mike & Mike in the Morning and even that is becoming SJW polluted.

Also, the Speak for Yourself with Whitlock - Whitlock the Hack was who spearheaded the Javon Belcher murder + suicide as Gun Lobby/NRA conspiracy culture, not what really happened: ill raised boy apex athlete who had a child out of wedlock, baby momma's momma raising the two, he went out routinely to do a bunch of drugs (which ones we do not know because the toxicology report was buried) and drink a bunch of liquor the night before the game and hooked up with one of his mistresses, was pulled over by police on the way home, released because superstar, shot and killed baby's momma, then suicided himself at the stadium.

Much easier to blame someone else then answer all of those questions, then Bob 'puffy face' Costas, the smartest man in the announcers booth, blamed white culture.

Whitlock was a KC Star = Disney = ESPN blue chip until bought out by Fox.

Kenyan army base raided by Shaboobs near Fino
Heavily armed terrorists militants from Al Shabaab have launched deadly attack on Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) base near Fino town in Mandera County, northeast of Kenya.

The raid triggered heavy clashes between KDF forces and Al Shabaab terrorists militants that started late on Wednesday afternoon and has continued till Thursday morning, according to local residents. Kenyan warplanes were involved in the battle, sources said.

The clashes caused the death of armed terrorists militants and KDF troops but it could not be independently verified how many soldiers and fighters were killed.

Both sides have exchanged heavy and slight weapons during the fighting.

Meanwhile, tens of local residents were reported to have started fleeing from Fino town to another village, in a bid to survive from their lives in the clashes.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Ahead of elections, Fatah brags of killing 11,000 Israelis
[IsraelTimes] Despite PA efforts to suppress the group, October’s municipal vote could boost Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, in West Bank

In a Facebook post Tuesday, the Paleostinian Fatah group listed a number of its achievements. At the top: the killing of 11,000 Israelis.

The post was carried by Fatah’s official page. It was translated by the watchdog group Paleostinian Media Watch.

In its boast, Fatah also notes other achievements, such as losing 170,000 "deaders," being the first to carry out attacks in the First Intifada, which began in 1987, as well as in the second that launched in the fall of 2000. It also takes credit for leading the Paleostinian campaign against Israel in the UN.

Fatah, led by Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
, is widely seen as the more moderate of the two main Paleostinian factions. Hamas, the Islamist terror group which rules Gazoo, is Fatah’s main competitor.

The current Fatah post is likely linked to the upcoming Paleostinian municipal elections, set for October 8, in which Fatah and Hamas are expected to contest seats in most Paleostinian municipalities. In many places in the West Bank, Hamas members will be running without openly identifying with the movement, which has been suppressed by PA forces in areas under its control.

Much of the Fatah Facebook page is currently devoted to criticizing Hamas.

According to PMW, this wasn’t the first time Fatah made such a boast. A similar message appeared on Fatah’s Facebook page in 2014.

If Hamas wins significant gains in the municipal election, it could signal its successful attainment of a firm foothold in the territory. Last week, analysts suggested that Hamas likely agreed to the municipal elections out of the belief that the aging and unpopular Abbas would be a weak opponent.

Fatah has tried to prevent Hamas gains by putting pressure on the group ahead of the vote. On Monday, a senior Hamas member decried the Paleostinian Authority’s ongoing arrests of its members in the West Bank, according to Israel Radio. He said the persecution of Hamas members showed that Abbas’s government was not conducting fair and democratic elections.

Terror Networks
The Beatings Will Continue: Afghan and Iraqi Edtion

ISIS executes 2

ZAKHO – The radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) on Friday executed two Afghan men in the eastern Nangarhar province, after accusing them of fighting alongside pro-government forces in Afghanistan.

ISIS beheaded the two men and released images showing the brutal execution, threatening everyone who backs the Afghan government against its self-declared Caliphate to face a similar punishment once captured by the group.

This comes just two weeks after the Afghan authorities announced the death of prominent ISIS jihadi leader Saad al-Imarati in an operation by the government forces in the Nangarhar province.

Al-Imarati was one of the founders of ISIS branch in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and had led several ISIS attacks against pro-government troops and the Taliban.

ISIS kills fleeing civilians in Kirkuk

KIRKUK: The Daesh group has killed several residents attempting to flee Hawijah, officers and local officials said Friday, as Iraqi forces prepared for an operation against the extremist-held area.

Hundreds of civilians have over the past few days managed to flee the area, which lies west of the Kurdish-controlled city of Kirkuk and about 220 km north of Baghdad.

Hawijah and its surroundings are one of the last major areas east of the Tigris still controlled by IS and possibly the next target of the forces battling the extremists in Iraq.

“Our forces received 600 people yesterday and offered them assistance,” a brigadier general with the Kurdish peshmerga forces told AFP.

“We heard from them that Daesh is holding hundreds of families hostage and has executed young men for escaping from the land of jihad (holy war) to the land of the infidels,” he said.

A police colonel also said that several people had been shot dead by Daesh fighters as they attempted to flee the area recently.

A local tribal leader urged Iraqi forces to step up operations aimed at retaking Hawijah and rescue trapped civilians. “We are facing the risk of a massacre and the government has to move quickly,” Sheikh Anwar Al-Assi told AFP.

After retaking much of the vast western province of Anbar in recent months, including the Daesh bastion of Fallujah in June, Iraqi forces are training their sights on remaining extremist strongholds in the north.

The ultimate target is Mosul, the country’s second city and the de facto Iraqi capital of the terror organization’s self-proclaimed caliphate.

Kurdish and federal forces have held positions around Hawijah for months, imposing a loose siege on the city but stopping short of launching a fully-fledged assault to retake it.

Assi estimated the number of people still living under Daesh rule in the Hawijah area at 100,000.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Danes open their fight with airstrikes
DAMASCUS – Denmark announced Friday that its airforces have for the first time launched airstrikes in Syria, bombing strongholds of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Raqqa province. Defense Command Denmark said the F-16 raid happened “in the past week” but did not give further details.

Raqqa is the de facto capital of the ISIS self-declared Caliphate.

The Danish supreme military command said their fighter jets also participated in operations over Iraqi provinces targeting ISIS tactical units, weapons stocks and fighters.

The Scandinavian country joined the international coalition fighting ISIS in October 2014. According to reports, Danish warplanes have previously participated in airstrikes on ISIS forces in Iraq, but not Syria. Denmark’s present contribution to the anti-ISIS effort includes seven F-16 fighter jets, among others, with a mandate to bomb in Syria.

Thursday after allegedly giving methamphetamine to an undercover police officer in exchange for sex.

Silverthorne, who has been mayor of Fairfax since 2012, was announced as a member of "Mayors for Hillary" back in February of this year.

The city of Fairfax is located in Fairfax County, a suburb of Washington, D.C., and one of the richest counties in the country. The 50-year-old mayor was arrested at a hotel in nearby Tysons Corner.

According to Fairfax County police, they encountered Silverthorne after learning of an individual who was distributing meth through a website used to arrange male-on-male sexual encounters.

An undercover detective created a profile on the site and was contacted by Silverthorne, who said he could provide meth in exchange for sex. They arranged to meet at a hotel, where Silverthorne was arrested for felony distribution of methamphetamine.

Silverthorne is also reportedly a substitute teacher in the Fairfax County Public School system.

Trump endorses Ryan Friday
[CNN] Donald Trump is expected to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan
...U.S. Representative for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, serving since 1999. He is a member of the Republican Party. He proposed an alternative to President Obama's 2011 budget and made himself the target of both Democrat and Republican verbal pies...
on Friday, moving to mend an intra-party rift that has put the Republican presidential nominee at odds with its highest-ranking elected official.

Trump's endorsement of Ryan would come at an 8 p.m. ET rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, two sources said.

The move comes just days ahead of Ryan's Tuesday primary matchup with challenger Paul Nehlen, who has played up Trump's refusal to back the speaker -- as well as Ryan's tepid support for Trump.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Produces Fake N.Korean Defectors
China is rolling out fake North Korean defectors who then apply for asylum overseas and reap medical and other benefits from foreign governments. The ruse is another feather in the cap of China's burgeoning industry in fakes and knockoffs that covers everything from electronics to toxic frozen peas.

A source on Tuesday said there are a couple of private academies in Beijing's Wangjing district, which is home to a large ethnic Korean population, that help Chinese citizens fake documents to pose as North Korean defectors.

The main clients are ethnic Koreans from northeastern China who can speak the language. The academies teach them about North Korea and help them fabricate stories of their escape. If they succeed in gaining asylum overseas they can rake in hundreds of euros in monthly support from European governments and be eligible for other perks like medical insurance.

European governments used to be quite accommodating to people claiming to be North Korean defectors but screenings have become more stringent.

The source said the fake defectors are introduced to brokers who fabricate identity documents showing that they worked in coal mines or factories in North Korean prison camps. They are also coached on what questions are commonly asked by European officials.

But as these fake defectors are granted asylum in Europe, real defectors who are unable to produce identity documents are sometimes deported.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, 1,100 North Korean defectors lived in 13 countries as of 2015. Another 230 were waiting for the results of their asylum application.

The U.K. had the most with 622, followed by France with 146, Canada with 126, Germany with 104, Belgium with 66 and the Netherlands with 59. Twenty-two had settled in the U.S.

A government source here said some Chinese citizens posing as North Korean defectors even come to South Korea. "The international community must try to filter out fake defectors so that real ones do not face unfair treatment," a spokesman for a human rights group said.

Baltic Dry Index remains at 636, No change
Today, Friday, August 05 2016, the Baltic Dry Index showed no change, remaining at 636 points.

Baltic Dry Index is compiled by the London-based Baltic Exchange and covers prices for transported cargo such as coal, grain and iron ore. The index is based on a daily survey of agents all over the world. Baltic Dry hit a temporary peak on May 20, 2008, when the index hit 11,793. The lowest level ever reached was on Wednesday the 10th of February 2016, when the index dropped to 290 points.

Dry bulk shipping charter rates to rise on unexpected demand growth

Increasing trade and contracting supply will support a recovery in charter rates on major dry bulk shipping routes, with the prospect of China importing more coal and iron ore to combat pollution and poor quality, according to the latest edition of the Dry Bulk Forecaster, published by global shipping consultancy Drewry.

Macroeconomic policy decisions by the Chinese authorities have had an impact on the overall dry bulk market, increasing vessel demand on key routes resulting in a steady recovery in charter rates.

China’s efforts to revive its economy have helped the iron ore trade to revive and are expected to further boost tonne-mile demand, as Drewry envisages more of the commodity coming out of Brazil.

On the investent side, tighter financing options and restrained new ordering have helped the dry bulk market to keep supply in check so far. A high number of slippages and cancellations will impede any substantial growth in deliveries over the next few years.

Demolition of ever-younger vessels is expected to result in a slowdown in fleet growth this year. And a similar rate of demolition and delivery in the next year will help deflate oversupply further. Demand growth, which seemed to be an unlikely prospect throughout last year and the early part of 2016, has been helping the dry bulk market come off the bottom.

Coalition bombs ISIS command centre in Nineveh
DUHOK – US-led coalition on Thursday launched a new wave of airstrikes on ISIS positions in northern Iraq and bombed a main command centre for the group in Nineveh province.

Local activists reported that a command centre for the Islamic State (ISIS) in western Mosul of Nineveh province was hit by an airstrike conducted by the western coalition’s air forces.

“The targeted headquarters included a major weapons’ store and a security centre for the Islamic State. The facility turned into rubble after the airstrike, which led to the destruction of a large deal of ammunitions and weapons,” head of Nineveh media centre Raafat al-Zarari told ARA News.

Scores of ISIS security members were reportedly inside the facility when the coalition bombed the area.

“The number of militants killed in the strike was not immediately clear, but there were a number of explosives’ experts and security guards inside the building. They were all killed,” media activist Abdullah al-Malla said, speaking to ARA News from Mosul.

Al-Malla cited ISIS officials saying that the strike was “a heavy blow to the Caliphate forces”, as they lost a large deal of their weapons arsenal in the operation.

Syrian regulars repel rebel attack in Aleppo
ALEPPO – Syrian rebel fighters on Friday launched one of the fiercest offensives on Syrian regime’s army positions in the northern city of Aleppo, using mortar shells and explosives. However, army officials reported that their forces were able to repel the attack and kill “hundreds of insurgents”.

Rebels of the Syrian opposition initiated the offensive by carrying out two car bomb attacks on regime checkpoints at the entrance of the artillery base in Aleppo, and then launched dozens of mortar shells targeting Syrian army headquarters inside the base.

“Rebels of the Aleppo Conquest [a coalition of Syrian armed opposition factions] stormed a large part of the artillery base in Aleppo city on Friday,” rebel spokesman Mustafa Sulaiman told ARA News. “Then fierce clashes broke out between our fighters and the regime troops, causing casualties on both sides.”

The spokesman added that the Aleppo Conquest fighters have eventually withdrawn from the base after destroying several vehicles and heavy weapons for the regime’s forces.

On the other hand, the Syrian army said in a statement that it was able to repel the attack and kill hundreds of insurgents.

“The Syrian Arab Army foiled the attack on the Aleppo artillery base and two major barracks, and killed hundreds of insurgents and destroyed much of their equipment and tanks,” it said in a statement, describing Friday’s attack as “the biggest assault” by rebels against regime-held areas in a year.

Thai police arrest suspect in foiled bombing
[The Nation] Thai security officers have arrested the man who allegedly made a car bomb that was safely defused in a gas station in Yala province on Wednesday night. Abdullateh Riang reportedly confessed to constructing the bomb and also led the officers to another two bombs that he had prepared for future attacks. His arrest followed a 3 a.m. ranger-police operation in Narathiwat's Rusoh district.

The arrest was for an incident on Wednesday when two men wearing facemasks and abayas, which are usually worn by women, drove a truck into a gas station in Raman at on Wednesday evening. The two men asked for a full tank of gas but then ran out of the station and fled on a motorcycle, causing staff to call police about their suspicion of a car bomb. A bomb squad found and defused a makeshift bomb in the truck's back seat.

A security source said authorities believed that militant leader Masukareunor Yakumor of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil insurgent group was behind the bomb attempt. Masukareunor is a weapons and explosives expert linked to several violent incidents, including an attack on a Narathiwat military outpost in January 2011. The attack resulted in the deaths of four soldiers and militants made off with 60 weapons.

Kashmir Korpse Kount
Indian forces have killed two pro-independence protesters and injured more than 100 others in the Indian-controlled Kashmir, Press TV reported.

On Friday, New Delhi extended a curfew in several parts of the disputed Himalayan region for the 28th day in an attempt to prevent more pro-independence protests. Protesters, however, defied the curfew and staged demonstrations where government forces fired bullets, tear gas canisters and pellets from shotguns to disperse them.

"Forces fired to disperse large crowds at two places in Budgam district in which two persons died," said a senior police officer, whose name was not mentioned in the report. "Over 100 protesters (and) some policemen were injured in the day-long clashes."

Large parts of the Indian-controlled Kashmir have been under a 24-hour curfew in recent weeks.

On July 8, Indian troops killed a pro-independence leader in Kashmir. Several deadly protests have been held in the region ever since. Over 50 people have been killed and nearly 4,000 injured in the protests so far.

New federal indictment accuses ex-Sheriff Lee Baca of obstructing justice, lying to authorities
[LATIMES] A federal grand jury on Friday indicted former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca on charges of obstructing justice and lying to federal Sherlocks concerning operations at the troubled county jail system.

The charges come days after Baca withdrew an earlier guilty plea to a charge of lying during an FBI investigation into the county’s jails, opting instead to take his chances at a high-stakes trial.

Under the new indictment, Baca faces one count of conspiracy to obstruct a federal grand jury investigation, one count of obstruction of justice and one count of making false statements. If convicted on all counts, he could face 20 years in prison.

In deciding to walk away from the agreement he struck with federal prosecutors on Monday, Baca opened the door to the government bringing a broader and more serious case against him.

Michael Zweiback, one of Baca’s attorneys, said Monday he expected prosecutors to level the more serious charges, which mirror those brought against Baca’s former second-in-command, Paul Tanaka, who was convicted earlier this year of obstruction of justice in the same FBI investigation.

Baca’s decision came after U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson said last month that he would reject the plea deal, which had limited the former sheriff’s prison time to a maximum of six months. Anderson had sentenced Tanaka to five years in prison.

After withdrawing his plea, Baca told a horde of news hounds on the steps of the downtown courthouse that he had done so because of "untruthful statements" made by the judge and prosecutors about his involvement in a scheme by sheriff’s officials to thwart the FBI’s jail probe.

He did not specify what was untruthful. Instead, reading from a prepared statement, Baca referenced his recent diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease and said the inevitable progression of the illness had injected an element of urgency into the case.

"I need to set the record straight about me and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on the misleading aspects of the federal investigation while I am capable of doing so," said Baca, who retired in 2014.

9 ISIS Bad Guys have a Very Bad Day against Kurds
HASAKAH – Clashes renewed on Friday between the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the northern countryside of Aleppo province.

At least nine ISIS militants were killed and a dozen more were wounded in clashes with the Kurdish-led SDF fighters in Manbij city near the Turkish border.

“As the battle for Manbij border pocket continues, our forces were engaged in renewed clashes with Daesh [ISIS] terrorists in the city centre of Manbij,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News.

“After sporadic clashes, ISIS evacuated a neighbourhood downtown that was used by the group as a base to launch attacks on our forces in Manbij,” he said.

“We have collected corpses of nine Daesh militants,” the Kurdish official said. “Also, we’ve captured 12 injured Daesh militants. they’re now in our custody.”

Backed by a US-led coalition’s air cover, the Syrian Democratic Forces recaptured nearly 80% of Manbij border pocket from ISIS in an operation launched on 31 May, according to the SDF leadership.

Mother Of 7 Doused In Gasoline, Set On Fire In Broad Daylight
[LOSANGELES.CBSLOCAL] The hunt is on for a man accused of dousing a mother of seven in gasoline before setting her on fire in South Los Angeles.

Tabitha Morton remains at death's door at a hospital with extensive burns following the attack, which unfolded June 12th in an alley in the 500 block of E. Vernon Avenue.

"This occurred in broad daylight in front of witnesses and she was critically injured while he simply walked away," said Capt. Daniel Curry of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Investigators say Morton got into a fight with the suspect before he went to a nearby convenience story to buy the gasoline.

"You never know what somebody is capable of. Look what he’s done," she said.

Morton’s family posted photographs of the 47-year-old, who is on life support.

Workers at an El Pollo Loco location said she worked for what little money she had, often coming there to clean.

"She always had this smile on her face, you know? Speaking to everybody, you know," said one man.

Investigators say it’s unclear how Morton knew the suspect, who they described as a dangerous, cold-blooded criminal. He was caught on camera grinning moments before the attack.

"To methodically just douse her with gasoline and light her on fire, that’s as shocking as you can get," Curry said.

Investigators say they want to put a name with the suspect’s face and are asking anyone with information to give them a call.

Arabia
Aden Officials Expose Terror Ring
Aden-Southern Aden’s Security Director Brigadier General Shalal Shaya revealed that Yemeni security taskforces have identified all members of the sleeper terror cell which have staged a series of assassinations.

The terrorists had taken down a UAE officer working for the Emirati Red Crescent, senior southern Yemeni officials, traffic police and religious men.

Aden police spokesperson Abd Al-Rahman Al-Naqib said the identities were disclosed at a meeting held among security officials.

Naqib added that the security forces have been holding extensive meetings to target terrorism across all eight Yemeni governorates. Members involved in terror acts are being tracked down, in an effort to restore legitimacy and the rule of law in Yemen.

Spokesperson Naqib lauded the efforts of countries partaking in the Arab Coalition led for Yemen, namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Naqib extoled the relentless exertions by the two, especially in backing Aden’s police force in dark times. He stated that the support received played a major role in restoring security in the governorate.

Moreover, security officers suspect that there is a nexus between the assassins and Houthis along with forces allied to Saleh, who were driven out of Aden by the Arab coalition fighting to restore the legitimate Yemeni government.

Special security forces officers have been deployed throughout the city. The group was formed after the liberation of Aden from Iran-backed Houthi occupation in July last year.

The city of Aden, the temporary base of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi’s government, has seen a series of drive-by shootings and terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of many government officials and popular resistance fighters.

The recently discovered terror ring had admitted to staging the horrendous March attack against a retirement home in Aden.

Gunmen, on March 4, had stormed a retirement home in the southern Yemeni port city of Aden, killing 16 people, including four Indian nuns, Yemeni security officials and witnesses said.

The killing spree began with two gunmen who first surrounded the home for the elderly in Aden while four others entered the building, the witnesses and officials said.

Illegal weapons making their way into Kenya through Garissa
I had no idea Operation Fast and Furious had extended this far...
As the Kenyan government plans to have a massive repatriation of Somali refugees from the Dadaab camps, reports have emerged of illegal weapons making their way into the country through illegal porous routes in Garissa County. This has heightened suspicion that some of the youth at the camps are facilitating the business of weapons influx.
Ah, youts these days...
According to North Eastern regional security Director Ambassador Mohammed Saleh, the government has done much to curb the illegal trade but the efforts are being hampered by a large number of refugee youths involved in the business.

Saleh pointed out that Hagadera as the most notorious region where the business is seemingly thriving with youths transacting in hushed tones. However, the director says a team of intelligence officers are on the ground collecting crucial information that will help the security agencies in fighting the vice that is apparently a threat to national security.

12 LNA die in Derna fighting
Two separate offensives by the Derna mujahideen against units linked to the Libyan National Army (LNA) have left at least 12 members of the latter dead, according to Abdul Karim Abdulkarim Sabra, now the welfare spokesman for the Omar Mukhtar Operations Room.
Will we have to start bombing these guys too?
Eight LNA fighters from 276 Brigade and a volunteer unit were killed and another 19 wounded when the mujahideen launched a surprise attack against them south west of Derna very early this morning, he said. The bodies of another four who were initially listed among eight missing in the fight were later found by the Red Crescent. They had been summarily shot, he claimed.

The other fighting took place some 15 kilometres west of Derna, on the coast road towards Ras Hilal along which there is supposed to be a ceasefire. According to Sabra, the mujahideen launched an attack at Wadi Al-Naga on two LNA-linked units based in Ras Hillal and Kirisah. In response, he said, the LNA had sent 40 armed vehicles to the place and were now in control of it.

Responding to the fighting south west of Derna, the LNA also launched fresh airstrikes against suspected mujahideen positions, with the Omar Mukhtar Operation Room declaring that the bombardment would be intensified.

For their part, the mujahideen are reported claiming that rather than an offensive on their part south of Derna, they repelled one by the LNA.

No figures for mujahideen casualties have been announced.

Gunmen Kill 13 in Market in India’s Northeast
Attackers wearing military uniforms shot dead at least 13 people and wounded 15 on Friday in a busy market in a restive area of northeast India. The attack was blamed by the authorities on a regional separatist group.

The gunmen fired indiscriminately and threw hand grenades at the crowded weekly market in Kokrajhar, a town 220 km by road west of the state’s commercial capital Guwahati, eyewitnesses said.
Kokrajhar lies in the state of Assam.

One assailant was killed and security forces were in pursuit of three or four others hiding in a nearby forest, Assam police chief Mukesh Sahay told reporters.

Sahay said police had recovered an AK-47 rifle and explosives from the dead gunman, as well as a three-wheeler van the assailants had arrived in.

He blamed the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) group, a militant outfit fighting for a separate homeland for the indigenous Bodo tribespeople.

A senior home ministry official in New Delhi said preliminary reports indicated the attack, one of the deadliest in recent years in a region with a history of sectarian and separatist bloodshed, was carried out by the group.

“Police have launched a hunt to trace insurgents hiding near the incident spot. It is a militant attack and we will be sending a team from Delhi to investigate further,” the official said.

Assam, a remote and underdeveloped state, has suffered from years of ethnic and tribal insurgencies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won power in a state election in May for the first time after pledging to increase spending in the state.

“This attack is intended to destabilize peace in Assam,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state’s finance and health minister and a member of the BJP. There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Violence in Assam and the wider northeast has fallen as more militant groups have called ceasefires, although attacks by one community against another are not uncommon.

Militants fighting for a Bodo homeland killed at least 70 people, most of them tea-plantation workers from other parts of India, in a series of attacks in Assam in late 2014.

Thousands of people also fled the area after the series of coordinated attacks by the armed rebels.

ISIS captures up to 3,000 people fleeing violence in Iraq
[CNN] ISIS hard boyz have captured up to 3,000 people displaced from their homes trying to flee conflict zones in northern Iraq, the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
said Friday, reportedly killing 12 of them.

The UN refugee agency said it had received reports that ISIS rounded up the thousands of internally displaced people Thursday from villages as they tried to escape to the city of Kirkuk.

"Reportedly, 12 of the IDPs have been killed in captivity," the agency said in its daily Iraq update, using an acronym for internally displaced persons.

The Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights said Thursday that an estimated 100 to 120 ISIS hard boyz had captured around 1,900 civilians. It said the hard boyz were using the captives as human shields in fighting against Iraqi forces.

The move is the latest by ISIS hard boyz to retain a grip on swaths of the country as Iraqi forces, backed by US-led Arclight airstrikes, try to recapture djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, ISIS' most significant stronghold outside Syria.

The operation to liberate Mosul has been months in the making and involves coordination between Iraq's military, Kurdish forces and the US-led Arclight airstrikes.

There are more than 4 million internally displaced persons in Iraq, according to data from the UN refugee agency, which said the fall of Ramadi in May 2015 "resulted in significant levels of new displacement, mostly in Anbar Governorate." Iraq subsequently recaptured Ramadi from ISIS.

UN Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon said Wednesday that ISIS had committed "heinous crimes" that may constitute war crimes and genocide.

Indonesian police arrest six suspects allegedly planning Singapore attack
[AlAhram] Six Indonesians were tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
on Batam island on Friday for planning an attack on Singapore, an Indonesian police front man said.

"What we understand so far is that they were planning to attack vital objects, busy areas including police offices," police front man Agus Rianto told news hounds.

"We also obtained information that these suspects with one ISIS terrorist in Syria now planned to attack Singapore via Batam," he said, referring to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. bully boy group.

The six were suspected to have links to Bahrun Naim, an Indonesian fighting for Islamic State in Syria. Naim is believed to be one of the criminal masterminds of an attack in January in central Jakarta, in which eight people were killed including the four attackers.

Batam is just to the south of Singapore.
An Nahar adds:
Police named the alleged ringleader as 31-year-old Gigih Rahmat Dewa. Police suspect Dewa, 31, received and distributed funds sent by Naim. Naim has been linked to several recent terror plots in Indonesia, including a suicide kaboom on a cop shoppe in the city of Solo last month that left one police officer injured.

Dewa is also accused of previously harbouring two members of China's ethnic Uighur minority, some of whom have travelled to Indonesia to join bully boy groups, and of helping gunnies on their journeys to Syria.

Analysts said it was unclear whether the Death Eaters had the ability to carry out such a plan, which would involve firing a rocket over a distance of about 20 kilometres (12 miles).

Indonesia has long struggled with Islamic militancy and has suffered a string of attacks in the past 15 years, including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed more than 200 people. A crackdown had weakened the most dangerous networks but IS has proved a potent new rallying cry for the country's radicals, and hundreds of Indonesians have headed to the Middle East to join the jihadists.

group, a court official told Agence La Belle France Presse Thursday.

The official said a "schoolboy from the northern Sugd region operating under the pseudonym Hidoyatullo" had attracted a 1,000-strong following on the Russian social network, Odnoklassniki.

The official did not name the schoolboy, citing his status as a minor, but confirmed the length of the sentence, which was handed down on Wednesday.

In December, a Tajik court sentenced seven people, three of whom were minors, to terms between seven and 27 years in jail for raising the Islamic State group's flag in the south of the country.

The government has said up to 1,000 nationals, including the former chief of the interior ministry's special forces unit, have left the country to join the jihadist group fighting in Iraq and Syria.

The secular Central Asian country has witnessed a heavy state crackdown on Islam recently, with widespread reports of forced beard shavings and bans on the sale of Islamic clothing in specific cities.

Social media users in the Central Asian state moreover complain of regularly losing access to Russian social networks, as well as Facebook and YouTube. The government has denied authorising the blocks but consistently highlights social media's purported role in spreading murderous Moslem ideas.

America, welcome to the war.
[Politico] Russia doesn't want to just bring down Hillary Clinton but rather the United States itself.

TALLINN -- The revelation that Russia’s intelligence services hacked the computer systems of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in what appears an attempt to weaken her in the U.S. election against Donald Trump may seem like the stuff of conspiracy.

But the truth is far more alarming. Russia’s activities aren’t part of a conspiracy. They are elements of an openly stated doctrine -- a resurrection of Soviet style political warfare, in which intelligence agencies seek to amplify divisions among their enemies, weakening the Western front by sowing discord and dissent whenever the opportunity presents itself.

The political warfare of the Cold War is back -- in updated form, with meaner, more modern tools, including a vast state media empire in Western languages, hackers, spies, agents, useful idiots, compatriot groups, and hordes of internet trolls. The target of the hacks wasn’t just Clinton. Nor is Moscow much interested in supporting Trump (willing useful idiot though he may be). What the Russians have in their sights is nothing less than the democratic fabric of American society and the integrity of the system of Western liberal values.

Russia is effectively using our democracies and our systems of rule of law against us. The method works like a computer virus. They insert a lie, a false accusation, a fabrication, an illegally-obtained private conversation -- some form of kompromat -- into our media, competing for ratings and ad revenue, and then they let us tear ourselves apart.

The hacking of Clinton’s computer systems (and the earlier leak of Democratic National Committee emails) is by no means unique. It is the latest -- and most public -- in a long line of subversive operations against democratic governments and U.S. allies, including aspiring NATO members and former Russian satellites.

Egypt's former mufti Ali Gomaa survives assassination attempt in Cairo
[AlAhram] Former grand mufti was shot at at a mosque in 6 October but escaped unharmed.

Egypt's former leading Moslem holy man, Ali Gomaa, has escaped unharmed from an apparent liquidation attempt in Cairo, he told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
on Friday afternoon.

Gomaa told the television channel that four men had shot at him while he was approaching a mosque in 6 October city on the outskirts of Cairo on Friday afternoon, where he was scheduled to lead Friday prayers. The four gunnies were hiding in a garden and opened fire on the holy man while he was about to enter the mosque.

"I took shelter behind the mosque's wall," he said.

The interior ministry said in a statement that the force guarding the Moslem holy man exchanged fire with the assailants, who subsequently expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

Gomaa said later on Friday that the attack came in response to the army's killing on Thursday of the chief of the Egyptian affiliate of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis.

Gomaa served as the country's grand mufti, the authority responsible for giving Islamic edicts, for almost a decade until 2013. Gomaa is known for his controversial Islamic edicts, which he has continued to issue after leaving office through a TV show, on air several times a week, during which he answers religious questions.

He has said that obeying President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is part of obediance to the Prophet Muhammed. Gomaa, an outspoken critic of the Islamist opposition, has also suggested that the now-banned Moslem Brüderbund group are non-Moslems and said the country's police and army should carry arms against them.

Afghanistan
Obama Vows Aggressive Action Against IS In Afghanistan
Obammer lame ducks at a presser.
"We dids" count. "We're gonnas" don't.
U.S president Barack Obama Thursday vowed to continue targeting Daesh outfits in Afghanistan. This comes as the group remains an emerging threat to Afghanistan and international security.

Referring to his recent decision of keeping the current level of U.S troops in Afghanistan, U.S leader said one of the reasons for keeping forces in the country was to eliminate Daesh militants.

"In Afghanistan one of the reasons that I decided partly to maintain our current force level so that we can keep eliminating ISIS (Daesh) presence there and we delivered another blow last month when we took out a top ISIL (Daesh) leader in Afghanistan Omar Khalifa," said Obama.

Washington has also made repeated calls to Pakistan to fight terrorists without differentiating between them – including that of the Haqqani terror network.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Ministry of Defense (MoD) has hailed Washington for withholding a $300 million USD military assistance package to Pakistan. In addition it called on the international community to mount more pressure on Islamabad in order to get it to change its approach towards fighting terrorism.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon announced that it would withhold $300 million in military assistance to Pakistan.

Analysts believe that the decision is apparently a huge blow to US-Pakistan ties and a sign of anger against Islamabad for not undertaking necessary actions against the militant groups – such as the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani Network that continue to fuel violence in Afghan cities.

Obama said that despite the fact Daesh is facing major setbacks in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan and that it has lost major swaths of territory in these countries, the group still remains a serious threat to international security as it wants to destabilize the world.
Washington believes that among Daesh fighters battling the Afghan and U.S forces in Afghanistan many are Pakistani militants.

In addition, the U.S department of state has raised concerns over the existence of terrorist hideouts inside Pakistan.

"Pakistan has taken and is taking steps to counter terrorist violence and certainly focusing on those groups that threaten Pakistanis and Pakistani stability, they have the military shut down some of these safe havens, they have restored government control in parts of Pakistan that were used by terrorists as safe havens for years and these are important steps that contribute rather to security interest in the region and they have to come at a cost of Pakistani lives lost," US department of state spokesman said.

This comes after Afghan officials have repeatedly blasted Pakistan over what they call double standards in their war against terrorism, a claim that Pakistan has repeatedly denied.

"Majority of terrorists are equipped and funded inside the Pakistani soil and conduct operations in our country. World countries must mount intense pressure on Pakistan and impose sanctions on it," said Dawlat Waziri, spokesman to ministry of defense.

According to the defense ministry, the Afghan security forces are battling those militants who are equipped and funded by Pakistan as Pakistan continues to harbor their families and relatives.

The Grand Turk
Turkey's purge continues: Saturday Aug. 6th
Turkey Ruling Party Orders Clean-Up after Coup Attempt
In which the Party starts to eat its own.
[AnNahar] Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has ordered the party to be "cleaned" of supporters of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's arch foe U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, state media reported on Friday.

In a circular signed by the party's deputy leader Hayati Yazici, he ordered an "urgent clean-up in the party organisation" to eliminate those linked with the Fethullah Terrorist Organisation -- a name Ankara gives for the movement blamed for the July 15 failed putsch, Anadolu news agency reported.

The party decree also said the operation should take place "without giving any room for trouble or gossip within the party."

Twelve out of 14 journalist suspects from the Zaman daily were remanded in custody, Anadolu reported on Friday, less than a week after six others were arrested.

Turkey: Dollar bills seen as evidence of coup-plotter links

[Ynet] After raiding a home and business owned by someone suspected of loyalties to a banned Muslim cleric, police listed the incriminating evidence they found: two shotguns, a pistol, ammunition, a fake identity card -- and three $1 bills.

The serial numbers, they noted, all began with the letter F.

In one of the odder twists in Turkey's failed July 15 coup and the subsequent crackdown, authorities are citing U.S. banknotes -- and $1 bills in particular -- as evidence that people are followers of Fethullah Gulen, a U.S.-based Muslim cleric whom Turkey accuses of orchestrating the coup.

Former Istanbul governor arrested over failed coup attempt

[Hurriyet] Legal sources said Mutlu and nine other suspects, including governors, a deputy governor and three district governors, were arrested for being members of the Gülen movement.

Mutlu, who served four years as Istanbul governor until 2014 – a period which included a police crackdown on the Gezi protests under his watch – when he was reassigned to Ankara to become an Interior Ministry civil servant, denied having ties to FETÖ during his interrogation. He was suspended from his position on July 17.

Hungary weighs Turkish request to shut 'coup-linked institutions'

[AlAhram] Hungary is considering a request from Turkey to shut local institutions Ankara suspects of having links to what it calls the terrorist group behind last month's thwarted coup attempt, the foreign ministry said on Friday.

Gulen's "Hizmet" (Service) movement runs some 2,000 educational establishments in about 160 countries, teaching a secular curriculum in English. Ankara suspects these schools and other Gulen-linked businesses help fund the movement. Kazakhstan announced earlier on Friday it would expel any Turkish teachers there found to have links with Gulen. Somalia has closed two Gulen schools and a hospital and Turkish pressure to shut down Gulen-affiliated institutions has been reported from countries as diverse as Germany, Kenya and Indonesia.

Hungary's foreign ministry said Turkey had requested the closure of "some institutions and organisations operating in Hungary which it says are linked with and provide intellectual and financial support to the terrorist organisation potentially associated with the coup attempt".

"Hungarian authorities will take measures against the institutions in question only if any connection between the institutions and terrorism is proved unequivocally," it said.

Turkish Intel agencies can be coordinated under same roof: Erdoğan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said all of Turkey’s intelligence agencies could be coordinated under the same roof, as he commented on the National Intelligence Agency’s (MİT) actions on the night of the July 15 failed coup attempt, believed to be masterminded by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

“All the intelligence agencies, the MİT, the police and the gendarmerie, can be coordinated under the same roof. There is a process to bring the police and the gendarmerie under the control of the Interior Ministry. Thus, we can coordinate intelligence under the same roof,” Erdoğan told state-run TRT television late on Aug. 4, adding that the aforementioned plan had already been presented to him.
Which roof?
HIS roof!

No US planning, support, knowledge in coup attempt in Turkey: Ambassador
It's sad that we have to say this, but we should say this.
U.S. Ambassador to Turkey John Bass has strongly refuted recent media reports and accusations that his country was involved in or had any advance knowledge of the July 15 failed coup attempt in Turkey, while also elaborating on how he personally and his staff in Ankara experienced the night of the attempt.

“I continue to be deeply disturbed and offended by the accusations without a shred of fact in so much of the commentary in this country that the United States government was involved in this illegal coup attempt or must have known about this illegal coup attempt, and I just want to say again, as I’ve said before and as we’ve said from Washington, the United States government did not plan, direct, support or have any advance knowledge of any of the illegal activities that occurred the night of July 15 and into July 16 , Full stop,” Bass told a group of journalist in Istanbul on Aug. 4.

“Frankly, if we would have had knowledge we would have told the Turkish government about it immediately, just as we bring to the attention of this government information about threats that it or its citizens face from terrorist organizations operating in Turkey,” the envoy said.

Turkey, Kazakhstan discuss closure of Gulen’s schools

Turkey and Kazakhstan discussed the issue of closure of Gulen’s schools in Kazakhstan, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a joint press conference in Ankara with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, TRT Haber reported Aug. 5.

Erdogan said that currently there are 33 educational institutions of Fethullah Gulen in Kazakhstan. He added that the ministries of education of the two countries will take important steps to address this issue.

International-UN-NGOs
Governments Reject U.N. Plan to Resettle Refugees
[AnNahar] U.N. member states have rejected a U.N. proposal to resettle 10 percent of the world's refugees annually as part of a new global effort to tackle the worst refugee crisis since World War II.

A document adopted late Tuesday failed to include the resettlement proposal from U.N. Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon that would have been the centerpiece of a U.N. summit on refugees in New York on September 19.

Human rights groups voiced disappointment, dismissing the document as a meaningless political declaration and warning that the September gathering of world leaders was shaping up as a missed opportunity.

Ban's adviser on the summit, Karen AbuZayd, said, however, that she was "very pleased by the agreement" and was looking forward to negotiations on a new global compact for migrants colonists to begin next year.

Under Ban's proposal, world leaders were to agree on a new "global compact on responsibility-sharing" to address the refugee crisis and launch talks on a second agreement on migration.

The final document makes no mention of the responsibility-sharing deal and proposes talks on migration beginning early next year, with a view to adopting that accord in 2018.

Ban put forward his proposals in May to address the crisis from some 65 million people fleeing wars and poverty, the largest displacement crisis since the Second World War.

Following weeks of negotiations, the proposed resettlement goal of 10 percent of world refugees was deleted from the document and replaced by a general pledge to take in more refugees.

"We intend to expand the number and range of legal pathways available for refugees to be admitted to, or resettled in, third countries," the document said.

With expectations for the U.N. summit now low, attention shifted to a separate gathering at the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
on September 20 that will be hosted by President Barack Obama
My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it...
At that summit, the United States will ask countries to come forward and announce the number of refugees they are willing to take in along with any other support they can offer.

Eight countries host more than half of the world's refugees: The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Pakistain, Leb, Iran, Æthiopia, Jordan, Kenya and Uganda.

U.N. member-states endorsed Ban's proposal for a global campaign against xenophobia.

"Demonizing refugees or migrants colonists offends profoundly against the values of dignity and equality for every human being to which we have committed ourselves," said the document.

[DeutscheWelle] The city of Lille, in northern France, cancelled its Grande Braderie de Lille scheduled for early September. The city's mayor said the nature of the market made it impossible to ensure people's safety.

'Jihadist' Headed Italy Trafficking Gang

[AnNahar] Italian authorities said Friday they had broken up a people trafficking gang based near Naples headed by a Tunisian national they suspect of jihadist links. The alleged gang leader's suspected backing for radical Islamism was uncovered during an investigation into the group's provision of false job contracts from local textile factories to enable illegal immigrants from North Africa to obtain work permits, a statement from the ROS police special operations unit said.

Arrest warrants have been issued for eight suspects. They included the Tunisian, who was said to have become radicalised in the last year and to have praised the recent terror attacks on Paris on social media.

Recent weeks have seen a string of suspected Islamists expelled from the country on the order of Interior Minister Angelino Alfano. Most of the orders, which are not subject to appeal within Italy, have been issued on the basis of the suspects having expressed support for radical Islamist ideas rather than any evidence of them actively planning to act on them.

Amsterdam Boosts Security for Gay Pride Canal Parade

[AnNahar] Special forces will be deployed in Amsterdam on Saturday when hundreds of thousands are expected to flock to the annual Gay Pride parade along its famous canals, police said.

The colorful climax of two weeks of celebrations in the Dutch capital comes amid heightened security in The Netherlands, and follows a series of attacks in European cities in recent months. Some 80 decorated boats are expected to float along Amsterdam's historic and picturesque canals watched by packed crowds from the banks.

This year the city is also hosting the EuroPride event and authorities warned there "will be substantially more police present than last year" during the regular annual Gay Pride celebrations.

No specific threat has been made against the city or the gay pride celebrations, authorities said, adding the first 10 days marked by over 300 events had gone well.

Hillary Clinton's post-convention bounce runs into a familiar wall: Emails
[LATIMES] Friday could have marked the end of what has been arguably the best week of Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as The Heroine of Tuzla and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Timothy Pickering ...
’s campaign.

Coming off a successful Democratic convention, combined with some of the most pronounced Republican infighting to date, Clinton took a commanding lead over GOP rival Donald Trump, both in national and many swing state polls.

But instead of capitalizing on the momentum, she tripped up again on her political Achilles’ heel -- emails -- before an audience she has kept at arm’s length over the last 16 months -- journalists.

Speaking at a gathering of black and Latino news hounds and editors in Washington, Clinton struggled to reconcile her previous public statements about the handling of sensitive information over a private email server with the critical assessment offered by the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Over the course of nearly four and a half minutes, Clinton first feinted toward acknowledging a recent misstatement, saying she offered a "short-circuited" response in a Fox News interview last weekend by suggesting FBI Director James B. Comey had concluded that her public statements about her use of a private email server while secretary of State were truthful. Comey had only said there was no evidence that she had lied to the FBI during its investigation into the matter.

Clinton attributed the confusion to miscommunication, explaining that she had intended to say that her statements in public were no different than those she had made to the FBI.

"What we have here is pretty much what I have been saying throughout this whole year. And that is, that I never sent or received anything that was marked classified," she said again Friday.

But critics say that statement does not square with reality the FBI findings.

It has been quiet on the mass murder front of late. I guess the excitement of having two of the arguably worst candidates possible running for president in the history of the Republic might be the cause of the quiet. A realization has occurred among American domestic enemies that maybe things really are screwed up, perhaps?

Or American domestic enemies are just reloading.

With the California rush to violate its residents' Gawd given rights now turned into law, a move is on to make the three western coastal states a "wall", for what purpose would be anyone's guess. But consider: all three states have universal background checks for firearms transfers in some form in place, and all three have pot laws that allow voters to ignore the violations of personal civil liberties, except for the right to get bombed out of your skull.

You'll notice in the linked article a drive to ban "high powered rifles", which is a leftist euphemism for anything that fires a rifle slug.

Some people are no fun when it comes to rifles. Rigging a raffle so that you win violates the law, coming under communications laws in most states. If the church used a device of any kind connected to the internet or to the phone lines for the raffle, it is a violation of federal law.

It's probably going to be okay for the pastor making this particular point. It's not like the government obeys laws anyway, is it?

#7  71st anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6th. The bombing of Nagasaki occurred three days later. On August 15the, Japan surrendered. The bombing saved many allied lives and prevented the need for the invasion of Japan. Despite the criticisms of the bombings still today, it is estimated that the bombings saved millions of lives.

Perimeter around Pusan continues to solidify. Intense fighting at the Naktong Bulge.
Situation very much in doubt, but improving.
Ghastly heat, lack of water causing as many casualties as combat.
Finally getting 3.5" rockets in numbers.
DA Battle Casualties 13-31 July: 1265 KIA, 2345 WIA, 971 MIA, 173 captured.

I have had the opportunity to fire a M1 Carbine - interesting rifle.

#10  It was a while back, but remembering as I go through a book about The Korean it was an effn war Police Action.

Smooth, recoil like an AR15, happy with the accuracy of something I had never shot. However, had feeding issues like Rosie Odonnel...dunno if it was the firearm, ammo, magazine, or just how that platform normally is.

#11  My dad said that his had feed issues sometimes swksvolFF, usually during an 'inopportune moment'.

He said it depended on how the metal ammo clips were filled. If you loaded it incorrectly or there was some crud in the clip, the cartridge wouldn't always 'advance'.

A few beach landings, a winter in the Alps and a sloppy summer in eastern France probably didn't help either.
