It should be noted that in all six of these incidents, four Russian aircraft were shot down by elements friendly to the Russian military, including their own troops. It also should be noted that the tiny Georgia air force, after an initial bombing raid in South Ossetia at the beginning of the war was not a factor in the fighting.

And for all the guffaws, finger waving, finger pointing, and haw haws that will follow in the comments, this information was put together by a Russian blogger using publicly available sources.

Home Front: Culture Wars
VDH: Imagine There's No Border - A world without boundaries is a fantasy.
[City Journal] Borders are in the news as never before. After millions of young, Muslim, and mostly male refugees flooded into the European Union last year from the war-torn Middle East, a popular revolt arose against the so-called Schengen Area agreements, which give free rights of movement within Europe. The concurrent suspension of most E.U. external controls on immigration and asylum rendered the open-borders pact suddenly unworkable.

The European masses are not racists, but they now apparently wish to accept Middle Eastern immigrants only to the degree that these newcomers arrive legally and promise to become European in values and outlook--protocols that the E.U. essentially discarded decades ago as intolerant. Europeans are relearning that the continent’s external borders mark off very different approaches to culture and society from what prevails in North Africa or the Middle East.

A similar crisis plays out in the United States, where President Barack Obama has renounced his former opposition to open borders and executive-order amnesties. Since 2012, the U.S. has basically ceased policing its southern border. The populist pushback against the opening of the border with Mexico gave rise to the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump--predicated on the candidate’s promise to build an impenetrable border wall--much as the flood of migrants into Germany fueled opposition to Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Driving the growing populist outrage in Europe and North America is the ongoing elite push for a borderless world. Among elites, borderlessness has taken its place among the politically correct positions of our age--and, as with other such ideas, it has shaped the language we use.

The descriptive term "illegal alien" has given way to the nebulous "unlawful immigrant." This, in turn, has given way to "undocumented immigrant," "immigrant," or the entirely neutral "migrant"--a noun that obscures whether the individual in question is entering or leaving. Such linguistic gymnastics are unfortunately necessary. Since an enforceable southern border no longer exists, there can be no immigration law to break in the first place.

#1  They will always be illegal aliens. Changing the words does not change the facts, only the perception. That perception change is designed to lie and mislead. Progressives do that all the time.

Afghanistan
Gunmen wearing Afghan military uniforms abduct American, Australian in Kabul
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Five gunmen wearing Afghan military uniforms have abducted an American and an Australian in the Afghan capital, Kabul, a security official said Monday.

The two foreigners were taken from their SUV while driving on Sunday night on a main road near the American University of Afghanistan, according to Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry. They are believed to be employees of the university and were traveling between the university and their residence, he said.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Sediqqi also added that initial reports show that up to five armed men stopped the foreigners’ vehicle and carried out the kidnapping. The two abducted are both men, he said. He did not reveal any more details except to say that an investigation is underway.

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul issued a brief statement confirming the kidnapping of an American citizen but gave no further details "due to privacy concerns."

India-Pakistan
Suicide bomber kills at least 50 at Pakistan hospital
[Reuters] A suicide bomber in Pakistan killed at least 50 people and wounded dozens more in an attack on mourners gathered at a hospital in Quetta, according to officials in the violence-plagued southwestern province of Baluchistan.

The bomber struck as more than 100 mourners, mostly lawyers and journalists, crowded into the emergency department to accompany the body of a prominent lawyer, who had been shot and killed in the city earlier in the day, Faridullah, a journalist who was among the wounded, told Reuters.

Sarfaraz Bugti, the provincial home minister, said at least 50 people were killed, and more than that number were wounded, as the casualty toll spiked from initial estimates.

"There are many wounded, so the death toll could rise," said Rehmat Saleh Baloch, the provincial health minister.

Television footage showed scenes of chaos, with panicked people fleeing through debris as smoke filled the hospital corridors.

The motive behind the attack was unclear and no group had yet claimed responsibility, but several lawyers have been targeted during a recent spate of killings in Quetta.

The latest victim, Bilal Anwar Kasi, was shot and killed while on his way to the city's main court complex, senior police official Nadeem Shah told Reuters. He was the president of Baluchistan Bar Association.

The subsequent suicide attack appeared to target his mourners, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, a spokesman for the Baluchistan government, said.

"It seems it was a pre-planned attack," he said.

#7  Delta outage: Ground stop lifted, CVG flights resumed

CINCINNATI -- Delta flights to and from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport have resumed after delays and cancelations affected Delta flights worldwide, Delta Air Lines officials said.

At 8:45 a.m. Monday, Delta said the airline's "ground stop has been lifted and limited departures are resuming" but "cancelations and delays continue." At 9:18 a.m., CVG tweeted that Delta flights have resumed normal operation. However, lines are still long and delays and cancelations can still be expected.

The cancelations are due a power outage in Atlanta that caused computer malfunctions for the company across the globe. Delta officials said in a statement that the outage began at around 2:30 a.m.

Delta customers traveling today through Friday are eligible for a waiver for rescheduled flights. Read more here.

I guess the general public doesn't need to know exactly how the power outage occurred. Good find, SteveS.

IS Group hits US-backed Syrian rebel base near Iraq border
[AlAhram] Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Group (IS) jacket wallahs on Sunday attacked a military base for US-backed fighters near the Syrian-Iraqi border, leaving several dead before blowing themselves up, rebel sources and the gunnies said on Sunday.

They said the dawn attack on the heavily defended military camp near the Syrian al Tanf border crossing with Iraq involved at least one explosive-laden vehicle that rammed the gate of the base which was set up by the fledgling, Pentagon-trained New Syria Army.

Another rebel said the gunnies were not able to storm the heavily fortified camp where large sand barriers have been erected to prevent such incursions and attacks in an area where the gunnies operate with hit and run attacks.

"It's a well defended camp and they tried to storm it but the suicide vehicle was targeted and hit," said Said Seif al Qalamoni, a rebel familiar with operating in the same area. He added that there were at least one dead and several maimed.

Qalamoni said jets from the US-led coalition against Islamic State Group shortly after struck at several vehicles believed to be driven by the gunnies in the sparsely populated desert area.

Amaq, a news agency affiliated to the Islamic State Group, said two suicide bombers had attacked the camp and detonated an car bomb before storming the compound and detonating their boom jackets.

The New Syria Army was formed around 18 months ago using Death Eaters driven from eastern Syria at the height of the Islamic State Group's rapid expansion in 2014.

Diplomats and rebel sources say US Special Forces are training hundreds of fighters from the group in camps in Jordan.

The Tanf crossing, which was captured from Islamic State Group gunnies last year, is a 240 km (150 miles) drive from Syria's ancient city of Palmyra, also known as Tadmur.

Scores of Islamic State Group gunnies moved south into southern Syria and the Tanf area after they were driven out of Palmyra in central Syria this year.

The holy warriors, who control a swathe of territory spreading from Iraq into central Syria, still control the al-Bukamal Syria-Iraq border crossing near Deir al Zour.

The New Syria Army, with the backing of Western special forces and US-led air strikes, launched an attack last June from the Tanf base on al-Bukamal northeast of Tanf.

But the operation, which aimed to capture the town and cut supply lines for the group between Syria and Iraq, failed after rebels were encircled on the approaches of the town after the gunnies mounted a counter-attack.

The New Syria Army's base in Tanf has been hit twice previously by Russian air strikes, even after the US military used emergency channels to ask Moscow to stop after the first strike, US officials say

Student who was cleared as getaway driver in Charlie Hebdo attacks arrested as 'tries to join ISIS in Syria'
[DailyMail] o Hamyd Mourad thought to have been getaway driver during massacre

o Classmates provided him with alibi and said he was in school at the time

o Was cleared of being the ’third man’ in the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack

o Last week Mourad was intercepted in Turkey trying to join ISIS in Syria

A student who was cleared of being the ’third man’ in the Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
terrorist attack in La Belle France has now been tossed in the clink
Please don't kill me!
for allegedly trying to join Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Hamyd Mourad, 20, was originally thought to have been the getaway driver when two Al-Qaeda operatives massacred 12 people around the Gay Paree offices of the satirical magazine in January 2015.

There was a huge campaign aimed at releasing Hamyd, who was then a teenager, with classmates eventually providing an alibi then led to him being released without charge.

But now ‐ in what appears to be another huge failure by La Belle France’s security agencies ‐ Mourad was intercepted in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on July 28th as he tried to join the Isis caliphate in Syria.

Mourad, who remained on a terrorist watch list in La Belle France, was deported to Bulgaria, where he remains in a detention centre awaiting his return to La Belle France.

Gay Paree intelligence sources told the Journal du Dimanche newspaper that material found in Mourad’s backpack, including a phone and laptop computer, made him a clear 'candidate for jihad’. It added that anti-terrorism prosecutors in Gay Paree had ’opened a judicial investigation in order to issue a European arrest warrant for him.’

The Charleville-Mezieres prosecutor confirmed that Mourad had just finished the first year of a science and technology course at university, had been ’reported missing’ by his family on July 25th.

Mourad was the brother-in-law of Cherif Kouachi, who carried out the murders at Charlie Hebdo with his brother Said Kouachi. The pair used AK47s to assassinate writers and cartoonists whom they accused of insulting the Prophet Mohammed, before they themselves were later bumped off by police commandos.

In the hours after the attack, Hamyd’s name was released as a prime suspect and a manhunt was launched. Hamyd handed himself into a cop shoppe in his home town of Charleville-Mezieres, some 160 miles from Gay Paree, and was held and interrogated for more than two days.

After being released without charge, Hamyd said: ’I was stunned, completely overwhelmed by the events.

’I'm in shock, people said horrible and false things about me on social media even though I am a normal student who lives quietly with his parents.’

UN says attack kills 1 peacekeeper, injures 4 in north Mali
[AlAhram] The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
mission in Mali says at least one peacekeeper has been killed and four others maimed in an attack in the country's north.

The mission said a U.N. vehicle hit an improvised bomb early Sunday in the Kidal region about 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Aguelhok killing the peacekeeper and injuring four others. A second attack, near the U.N. mission camp in Kidal, left no casualties but damaged equipment.

The U.N. condemned the attacks. No group has taken responsibility, but both bare the landmarks of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. Though pushed from strongholds in 2013, the al-Qaeda-linked group continues to stage attacks.

Government
Kaine Defends Iran Payment: We ‘Paid a Portion of the Claim and We Got Hostages Home'
[Breitbart] Sunday on on NBC’s "Meet the Press," while commenting on the $400 million dollar payment to Iran by the White House at the same time American hostages were released, Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) bragged the U.S. government had "bargained it down to a fraction and paid a portion of the claim" and added "we got hostages home."

Kaine said, "Chuck, here is the only thing new about this. This arrangement, the settlement of a claim with Iran, the payment of a portion of that settlement, hostages coming home, thank God. This was brief to Congress and the American public months ago. The only thing new this week, the only thing new is Donald Trump’s claiming to have seen a non-existent video of cash being given to the Iranians."

He continued,"I understand why Donald Trump is trying to make something out of it but look, you have two important issues. The first one is there was a legitimate claim against the United States. The United States bargained it down to a fraction. We’re making claims in international tribunals and we are having claims made against us all the time. We bargained it down to a fraction and paid a portion of the claim, and we got hostages home. Both of those things are appropriate. I understand why Trump is trying to make something out of it, but there’s just no there there."

When asked if it looked like a ransom, Kaine said, "No, absolutely not. We don’t pay for hostages. We don’t negotiate for hostages, absolutely not. We’re a nation of laws and if there is a claim we think we owe something on, we try to bargain the best way we can."

#13  I understand it's pretty well known that the US government facilitates private ransom payments. And I wouldn't be surprised if a good portion of the money comes from the government. But this sure makes it formal that the US government from now on will be involved. I wouldn't be surprised if both sides knew from the beginning that it would be this way. I can't imagine what Obean could have done to make things worse than he has for every facet of this interaction. And I have a feeling this interaction still has some loose ends that need tying up . . . .

#14  I thought they were some students suspected of criminal activities. Hikers. Or was that some other 'hostage crisis'?

The hikers were a while back, Bobby. They were eventually returned, as I recall. The ones that were traded as part of President Obama's clever negotiation were mostly dual citizens who

1. had gone there to visit relatives,
2. were journalists sent for their language skillz, or
3. went there to do good works, eg. Christian ministers.

The CIA contractor is still there, I believe, and a new set of hostages has been picked up from the categories above.

Hawija refugees say city deserted ahead of looming offensive
[RUDAW.NET] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) stronghold of Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
is virtually a desolate city as thousands of residents have fled the town over the past week fearing an imminent offensive by US-led coalition forces to drive out holy warriors, according to refugees from the area.

At least 2000 local people from Hawija and surrounding towns of Riyadh and Rashad left their areas in the past week and sought refuge in Kirkuk where patrolling Peshmerga units received them after routine inspections.

"It's a daily thing now with people coming in various numbers," said Colonel Safar Besari of the 11th Peshmerga Brigade in Kirkuk.

"When they arrive the intelligence office questions them and after inspections they will be assisted to other locations in Kirkuk," he said.

With just over 400,000 inhabitants, predominantly Sunni Arabs, Hawija district has been at the center of insurgency since 2004.

When the Iraqi army withdrew from the area in June 2014, tribal fighters affiliated with ISIS took charge of the city.

Iraqi forces have pushed back the murderous Moslems in several areas near Hawija which is regarded a strategic city at the crossroads between Kirkuk and Nineveh provinces.

Hawija's northern borders are within the reach of Peshmerga fire power and the Iraqi army's southern offensive has nearly paralysed ISIS movements outside the city.

"We left our homes at 11 pm and took a huge risk," said Hamdan Khalaf a resident from Hawija who fled the city together with several other families on Friday night. "We arrived here at around 5 in the morning, the next day, it was a difficult trip for the children especially," Khalaf told Rudaw.

Why were hospitals better in Pakistan during the colonial times?
[DAWN] Blah blah blah article that concludes the Pak govt lacks vision.

Someday somebody might look into "the roots of colonialism." Each tale is different, and some colonies were worse than others, but a common thread was natives who were unwilling to abide by civilized norms in relations with Europeans. North Africa was the home of pirates from about the time it was colonized by Moslems. India was the home of warring dynasties who were as rapacious with each other as the English, Portuguese, or French were. Spanish oppression of their colonies was pretty horrible, but the people they displaced used to rip the hearts out of people. Subsaharan Africa was pretty uniformly awful.

Why were hospitals better in Pakistain in colonial times? Because the condescending colonialists assumed the "white man's burden" and took care of their charges, not perfectly but better than the current crop of ruling babus.

North Korean diplomat expelled, asked to leave by Monday
[Dhaka Tribune] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked North Korean Mission’s First Secretary Han Son Ik to leave the country by Monday, a diplomatic source told Dhaka Tribune.

Customs officials seized a large batch of tobacco and electronic products, worth Tk3.5 crore, from the Kamalapur Inland Container Depot (ICD) last month. The North Korean diplomat purportedly brought the items without due process.

The National Board of Revenue wrote to Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque to take action against the diplomat for importing goods illegally.

In March last year, Bangladesh expelled another North Korean diplomat after he was caught smuggling $1.4 million worth of gold. Customs officials found Son Young Nam, then first secretary of the embassy, trying to smuggle 27kg of gold into Bangladesh.

German anti-terror police storm restaurant after blood-soaked man barricades himself inside... only to find him asleep in the basement
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] German anti-terror police stormed a restaurant after a blood-soaked man barricaded himself inside - only to find him asleep in the basement.

Specially trained officers were called to the 'Dubrovnik' restaurant in the western German city of Saarbruecken amid reports an armed man was inside. But after entering the building, they found him asleep and unarmed before making an arrest.

Wiesbaden police also said the 43-year-old man, who was not identified, was a relative of the restaurant owner. He had initially entered the place, screamed at security staff and sent them outside.

Police said he was probably a nut suffering from psychological problems.
Drunk is another possibility. Such things have been known to happen.

Locals Hit The Hardest Over Helmand-Kandahar Road Closure
The closure of Helmand-Kandahar Highway for the past four days - due to the presence of Taliban in parts of Helmand province – has created numerous challenges for battle-weary residents.

A number of motorists said that sometimes they come under attack by the Taliban when they try to use the road.

"We wanted to travel to Grishk district [in Helmand] when Taliban stopped our car and told us to go back. They opened fire on our vehicle," said Samiullah, a driver.

Meanwhile, stranded bus passengers said they have waited in vain for days for the highway to be reopened.

"I am waiting for the reopening of the road for the past two days. I want to meet my family in Kandahar but the road is closed," said Ahmad Shah, a passenger.

"I urge government to reopen the highway and address our problems," said Gul Padshah, another resident of Helmand.

Helmand Governor Hayatullah Hayat said they will address the problem as soon as possible.

"There is no specific problem on the way from Helmand to Kandahar, but Taliban has destroyed a bridge which has closed the highway to traffic. We are trying to address the problem in the near future," he added.

This comes after months of clashes between the Taliban and security forces. According to recent reports, the clashes have spread to the outskirts of Lashkargah city, the capital city of the province.

Olympic security chief attacked after opening ceremony before knife-wielding robber shot dead by police
[MIRROR.CO.UK] The Rio 2016 Olympic games have been rocked by more trouble after it emerged the Olympic security chief had been attacked after he left the opening ceremony.

The Olympics security chief was attacked as he left the Games opening ceremony by a knife-wielding robber who was rubbed out by a cop. Felipe Seixas was walking to his car near the Maracanã Stadium early on Saturday when he was set upon by four men brandishing knives.

A policeman with him shot one of the assailants dead and the others fled.
Unlike here in the U.S., in Brazil there will be hardly anyone who cares...
Authorities have attempted to hush up details of the shooting, which is a monumental embarrassment to crime-plagued Rio 2016 bosses.

The security chief himself became a mugging target after committing 10,000 security forces to protect the extravaganza.

Woman ‘burnt to death’ by brother-in-law over ‘property’
[DAWN] LAHORE: A pregnant woman was torched to death allegedly by her brother-in-law over a family dispute in Shadbagh on Saturday.

Police claimed Sidra, 23, belonging to Shakargarh tehsil in Narowal district, was married to her cousin Waqas Ali of Bhagatpura, Shadbagh, two years ago.

On Saturday afternoon, Sidra was sleeping and the other family members were away when her husband’s elder brother, Waris Ali, came with a container of petrol. He went to the room where Sidra was sleeping, sprinkled petrol there, set it on fire and fled after locking it from outside.
"Heh heh! No one will ever know!"
Police said his sister’s six-year-old daughter, who was playing in the street, raised hue and cry after seeing fire in the house. Neighbours tried to extinguish the fire and also alerted police and Rescue 1122.

Firefighters reached the spot and put off the blaze in 30 minutes and recovered the woman’s body. Police shifted the body to morgue for an appointment with Dr. Quincy.

Shadbagh police registered a murder case against Waris and his other family members on the complaint of victim’s father Liaquat Ali.

Station House Officer Mudassirullah Khan said they were alerted by neighbours about a fire but it was revealed that a woman had been torched to death by her brother-in-law over a property dispute. He said raids were being conducted to arrest the suspect.

City Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations Muhammad Naveed told Dawn Sidra was burnt to death by her brother-in-law over a property dispute. She was previously engaged to Waris, but when he went abroad his family married her off to his younger brother.

He said Waris worked in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. and learnt about the marriage only when he returned. The suspect had developed a grudge against his brother and his former fiancée over the marriage as well as a property dispute and according to locals they often quarrelled over the issue.

Iraq
Iraqis flee Mosul campaign for packed and underequipped camp
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Camps for displaced civilians in Iraq’s north are overflowing as Iraqi forces push toward ISIS-held city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, forcing thousands to flee.

Just southeast of Mosul, the Dibaga camp for Iraqis displaced from Nineveh province ISIS steadily expanding. In the camp’s center, crowds of angry young men swarm administrative offices demanding proper shelter or permission to leave the camp entirely. In one section separated from the rest of the camp, families call through chain link fences in search of loved ones partitioned by a lengthy interrogation process.

As many as 3,000 people have arrived here in just the last week, according to the camp’s administration. The more than 28,000 people living here are sheltering in a patchwork of tents, prefab containers, makeshift shelters and municipal buildings, or just sleeping out in the open.

As the first stages of the operation to retake Mosul from ISIS progresses, up to a million more people are expected to be forced from their homes by violence, according to the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
and the International Committee of the Red Thingy. But local officials and aid groups are already struggling to cope with the current, much smaller-scale influx.

Poor planning and limited resources during the operation to push ISIS out of Fallujah this summer left tens of thousands of civilians stuck in the Anbar Province desert with no shelter and little food and water. As Iraq’s military slowly pushes up toward Mosul from the recently secured Qayyarah airbase west of the Tigris River, Iraqi commanders say they are trying to mitigate the humanitarian fallout by encouraging some families not to flee.

"The situation for the displaced inside the camps is terrible," said Iraqi army Col. Faris Bashir al-Dulaimy of the Nineveh operations command in Makhmour. "Our forces are having more people staying inside their houses as we advance," he said explaining that there isn’t sufficient infrastructure to accommodate repeated large influxes of people in need of aid.

Previous operations against the ISIS group entirely emptied cities and villages of civilians in an effort to remove them from harm’s way. But encouraging people to stay could expose civilians to is counter attacks that commonly follow the "liberation" of territory from the krazed killer group.

Abdullah Ahmed and his young family walked through the desert for two days to reach safety after fleeing the village of Qayyarah that was previously under ISIS control. Their youngest son almost died during the journey. Ibrahim, seven months old, fainted from dehydration and had to be revived by an Iraqi military medic.

Once at Dibaga camp, the family was only able to find flattened cardboard boxes to sleep on in an open courtyard beside the camp’s administrative offices.

"No matter the conditions we are happy to be here," Ahmed said. He described his family’s last days in their hometown as terrifying. As Iraqi forces closed in on Qayyarah, he said, ISIS fighters began carrying out mass executions in public view.

"If you went there right now you would still see the bodies filling all the main traffic circles," Ahmed said.

But others at the camp balked at the harsh conditions and strict screening process imposed by Iraq’s Kurdistan region that requires most men to be interrogated for a week or more and their identity cards to be seized in an effort to control individual movement. A group of young men yelled at armed guards and aid workers through a gate to one of the camp’s administrative buildings.

"This is like a slow death," one man yelled. Behind him the crowd kicked up clouds of fine dust into the oppressive midday heat.

"When we were liberated from ISIS we thought we would get our freedom, but now we’re just in prison," said Haytham Fatwi, 20 years old, referring to ISIS by its Arabic acronym.

Dressed in sweat pants, plastic sandals and a neon-bright T-shirt, Fatwi, like hundreds of other men and boys, says he’s been forced to sleep on the floor of a modest mosque in the center of the camp.

"If we knew it would be like this, we would have never fled," Fatwi said.

Offensive for Sirte enters terminal phase
There are reported to have been four further US airstrikes on IS positions in Sirte today though the Bunyan Marsous media office has not confirmed the raids. The attacks once again apparently targeted sniper positions.

Sources close to the operation were denying that any BM fighters had been killed or injured in the attacks.

The key point being made in Misrata and Tripoli has been that the drive the destroy IS terrorists trapped inside Sirte was entering its final stage.

“The countdown to the final stage of the military operations against Daesh has begun,” a BM statement said today, adding “The operation’s leaders held intensive meetings to prepare for the final and decisive battles to eradicate the Daesh [IS] gang from the city of Sirte”

There has been speculation that the US airstrikes have so far been aimed at knocking out enemy positions away from the main terrorist redoubt in the Ouagadougou Centre. Once IS fighter have been driven back to the centre itself, is being assumed that it will be subjected to devastating attacks.

The US intervention, widely reported to be assisted in targeting by UK special forces on the ground with BM fighters, comes at a time when the dead and injured among the predominantly Misratan militiamen has reached disturbing levels. On 31 July Misrata Hospital said that 340 men had been killed and 1,600 wounded in the assault. However other medical sources have said that the number of dead and injured is in fact higher but they gave no precise figure.

Afghanistan
Qahraman Warns Against Underestimating Helmand Conflict
Abdul Jabbar Qahraman, former head of the military operation for Helmand, on Sunday warned the Afghan government and security institutions against underestimating the ongoing insurgency in the volatile province.

Looking skeptical about government's counter-insurgency policy, Qahraman blasted government over what he called a lack of commitment to end the Helmand turmoil and restore peace.

New reports from the warfront in Helmand illustrates that currently up to five districts in the area are under the complete control of the Taliban. This comes as the group's efforts to extend their operations continues to threaten a further seven districts.

"To be true, the enemy has increased its operations and they launched some coordinated attacks on some districts in Helmand; the enemy had a demonic plan to take control of the majority of districts in Helmand," a defense ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.

Currently insurgents control Musa Qala, Nawzad, Disho, Baghran and Nawmesh districts.

Government controls only two districts - Garmsir and Khanashin - while insurgents have also tightened their grip on seven other districts including Khanashin, Kajaki, Sangeen, Nad Ali, Washir, Greshk and Marjah.

"If the government - despite having a large number of forces and alongside the presence of foreign forces - cannot curb the war, this indicates government's weakness," said Qahraman.

The number of Afghan security forces currently deployed and serving in Helmand is estimated to be between 35,000 and 40,000 soldiers; however there are rumors that a number of these soldiers are 'ghost soldiers'.

"Opponents and the Taliban exist there, they have a well-equipped force," said Abdul Rahman Sarjang, former police chief of Helmand.

Syrian warbirds hit rebel positions in Idlib
[ARA News] ALEPPO – The Syrian regime’s airforce on Sunday bombed a hospital in the northwestern Idlib province, causing casualties among civilians, activists reported.

At least 12 people were killed, including four children, and more than a dozen were injured when a Syrian airstrike hit a hospital in the rebel-held Meles town in the countryside of Idlib province.

“The strike caused a huge damage in the building,” local media activist Salah al-Hallo told ARA News in Idlib. “Local rescue teams are still searching for victims stranded under the rubble.”

In the meantime, humanitarian groups called on the Assad regime to halt airstrikes on hospitals and other medical facilities.

“Targeting medical centres means purposively killing civilians. Hospitals are meant to provide medical treatment for people, especially those being injured during the ongoing fighting in the area,” Dr M. Munzir told ARA News.

“Most of the hospitals in Idlib are destroyed due to the war, and we’re forced to install makeshift hospitals in order to rescue as many patients as possible, this amid a sharp shortage of medical supplies,” he said.

According to the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), July was the worst month for attacks on healthcare centers since the beginning of Syria’s five-year-old war.

“There were 43 attacks on healthcare facilities in Syria in July – more than one attack every day,” the SAMS said in a statement said.

Briefing news hounds on Thursday, a senior Israeli security official said Halabi, who has run the group’s Gazoo operations since 2010, had been under surveillance.

The Israeli official said Halabi confessed to siphoning off some $7.2 million a year, about 60 percent of World Vision’s Gazoo funding, to pay Hamas fighters, buy arms, pay for other activities and build fortifications.

"Mohammad El Halabi denies all these accusations. He denied it all," Jerusalem-based lawyer Mohammad Mahmoud, who was assigned to represent El Halabi by the charity group, told Rooters by phone on Sunday.

Mahmoud said he met his client during a court session last week, and these were his first comments made publicly.

World Vision had already said it was "shocked" by Israel’s allegations, and while it had no reason to believe them to be true, it would review the evidence. Hamas has denied any connection to Halabi.

ISIS claims responsibility for machete attack in Belgium
[Ynet] ISIS has taken to Twitter to claim responsibility, as is their custom, for the Charleroi attack; assailant has been identified as 33-year-old Algerian living in Belgium since 2012.

ISIS grabbed credit on Sunday for an attack by a machete-wielding man in Charleroi, Belgium, that left two female coppers seriously injured, the group's Amaq news agency said on Twitter.

Shortly before the claim, Belgian prosecutors had identified the assailant as a 33-year-old Algerian, K.B., who had lived in Belgium since 2012, saying that he may have been inspired by terrorism.

The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office said Sunday, "Since there are indications that the attack may have been inspired by a terrorist motive, the federal prosecutor's office decided to take over the investigation from the district prosecutor's office of Charleroi."

The attacker, who shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) during the assault on Saturday, was shot by police and died of his injuries. He was carrying a rucksack, but no explosives or other weapons were found.

"There are indications that the attack may have been inspired by a terrorist motive," the prosecutors said in a statement. "He is known to police for criminal acts, not for terrorism."

Prosecutors searched two houses in Charleroi after the attack but did not provide details.

a man with a machete in the eastern city of Liège, broadcaster VRT reported. It said Liège police had cordoned off an area before detaining the man. It said he was of Turkish origin, did not use the machete and was not previously known to the police.

Belgium is increasing security at cop shoppes after Saturday's attack in Charleroi, Prime Minister Charles Michel told a presser on Sunday. He added that the prosecutors were investigating a possible case of "attempted terrorist murder."

Sharif offers treatment for those hurt in held Kashmir
[DAWN] As military forces continue a relentless campaign of oppression in India-held Kashmire, Pakistain expressed its desire to help the victims of state-aggression in the restive valley.

In a statement on Saturday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
called upon the international community to call on India to allow Pakistain to arrange for the medical treatment of Kashmiris who had been injured or maimed during the ongoing violence in the region.

PM Sharif said Pakistain wants to provide medical treatment to the injured, particularly those who had been hit by the deadly pellet guns being used by security forces in the area.
Are deadly pellet guns anything like a whiff of grapeshot?
The prime minister said Pakistain wanted to get the best possible medical facilities available anywhere in the world for the Kashmiri people, on an immediate basis.

The statement comes just days after a war of words erupted between the Indian home minister and his Pak counterpart over Kashmire, prompting the Indian minister to leave a Saarc summit in Islamabad halfway through.

"The magnitude of the humanitarian crisis in India-held Kashmire has compelled us to immediately pool our material and human resources for the victims’ [treatment]," the prime minister was quoted as saying.

"Even more gruesome is that healthcare providers in India-held Kashmire have not been allowed to treat victims properly. Indian security forces have also been targeting hospitals and ambulances providing healthcare to the peaceful and defenceless protesters," he noted.

‘Detained militants refuse to give info’

"When we ask them anything, these myrmidons, mostly youths, simply reply ’kill me, I will go to heaven,’" Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said yesterday.
Here's a simple test of the validity of their belief: cut a nose, two ears, a lip (top or bottom) and an arm or two off. See at which point 36 virgins appear to take them into their tender care.
Shahidul stressed the need for motivation of the youths through true explanation of the Qur’an and the Hadiths by Islamic scholars and imams so that they can realise their mistakes.

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
turban group in the Middle East face "almost certain" death as coalition forces in the area begin to take control of key battlegrounds, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull warned on Saturday.

Turnbull said Australians who were thinking of joining the IS in Iraq and Syria should strongly reconsider as any IS "myth of invincibility" would soon be destroyed, Xinhua news agency reported.

"The IS has not yet been defeated in Syria and Iraq but it is being rolled back. We have not just halted IS's momentum, it has been turned back," Turnbull said.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation has said that up to 110 Australians are fighting in the Middle East, while 40 have died since the conflict began in 2014.

Turnbull said information given to him indicates that the IS has lost "half of its territory" in Iraq since initiating fighting.

"In June, IS suffered its highest net territorial losses in over a year, including key ground near the Turkish border and the last city it controlled in Iraq's Anbar and Fallujah."

While Australian soldiers are not engaging in combat against the IS forces, Australian Defence Force personnel are training local soldiers and police near IS-held areas, while the nation's air force in conjunction with the US is conducting missions over the Middle East.

a man from Harchin village here who has been nominated in the suicide case of a second-year girl. The girl studying in a private college ended her life by eating poisonous substance on Friday morning.

Chitral police front man Inspector Buzurgud Din told Dawn the accused had allegedly attacked the girl a year ago while she was coming to college after which a case had been registered against him.

The villagers said the case was being heard in the court but the girl ended her life apparently due to frustration over delay in dispensation of justice to her.

They said she was an orphan as her father had died many years ago while she was a child and had no support to defend her in the court.

The accused was peon at government high school, Harchin, when he attacked the girl last year, after which he was transferred to district education office, Chitral.

Pakistan, Iran agree to cooperate against IS
[DAWN] Pakistain and Iran agreed on Saturday to forge close counterterrorism cooperation to deal with the bully boy Islamic State

(IS) group and other security threats.

This was agreed at the ninth round of bilateral political consultations held in Tehran. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry led the Pak delegation, whereas the Iranian side was headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific, Ebrahim Rahimpour.

This was the second senior-level engagement between the two countries in a fortnight. National Security Adviser retired Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua visited Iran for a meeting with his counterpart in the last week of July, during which both sides emphasised the importance of addressing security issues, particularly problems with border security.

"It was agreed that close cooperation was needed in countering extremism and terrorism, especially the threat" posed by organizations such as the IS, a statement issued by the Foreign Office after the political consultations said.

Both sides also discussed cooperation in trade and economy and agreed to enhance it.

"Regional situation as well as opportunities offered by enhanced connectivity for transit trade was also discussed," it said.

American Authorities Fear Terror Networks Already in US
Long piece at Voice of America. Just a few paragraphs here:
After years of undercover work, the U.S. is starting to pull back the veil on what appear to be loose-knit, perhaps deeply rooted networks of would-be terrorists who support each other even as many prepare to act alone.

Heightening the concern, these complex webs of connections and support seem to span several years and often cut across the ideological lines that delineate one terror group from another.

“Increasingly, the FBI’s had a lot of these,” according to a law enforcement official familiar with one of the more recent cases. “I think it is going on nationally.”

The official also said it was clear that “a lot of this predated ISIL,” using an acronym for the Islamic State terror group.

#5  I heard about some 'jihadi weapons training camps' here in the states somewhere around 2006, so ~10 years ago. Supposedly training with RPGs, mortars, explosives and the like at some remote areas of the country.

I'm not in a national security service, so I haven't been monitoring them. Our industry group is concerned about 'infrastructure destabilization', so some of our folks do keep up on the readings.

Apparently no one in national/state authority cares too much, though. Maybe 'giving them space' or something.

Clinton Chooses Black Lives Matter Over Law Enforcement Support

After almost a year of meeting with Black Lives Matter representatives, Clinton failed to garner the support of the movement’s co-founder Alicia Garza, but she managed to receive the endorsement of mothers championed by the Black Lives Matter movement.

Garza recently slammed Clinton, saying the former secretary of state only "uses black people for votes" and "photo ops," but doesn’t "do anything for black communities" after getting elected.

Nevertheless the Clinton-Kaine campaign touts the support she received during the Democratic National Convention from mothers of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Grand Turk
Turkey probes link of Zaman daily's ad to foiled coup
[AA.TR] A former advertising executive of Zaman daily was remanded in jug Saturday as part of a probe into a controversial commercial allegedly hinting at an impending coup bid some nine months before the July 15 events played out.

Zaman daily is affiliated with the U.S.-based preacher, Fetullah Gulen, who is accused by the Turkish government of being the criminal mastermind of the defeated coup.

Two people, including the ex-advertising executive, Yakup Simsek, and owner of the advertisement agency that made the commercial, identified as T.M.S., were detained and presented before a court in Istanbul, according to a judicial source.

While the court remanded Simsek in jug, the agency owner was released under judicial control, the source said.

The source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media, said: "The advertisement in question was made on the orders of Zaman Editor-in-Chief Ekrem Dumanli...it was a message to the organization’s army wing."

The court also previously issued an arrest warrant for the runaway, Dumanli, who is also accused of "attempting by force to abolish the constitutional order of the Republic of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, replace it with another order or block its de facto implementation."

The controversial commercial, which is available on YouTube, begins with sirens wailing across an aerial shot of a city that then abruptly cuts to a giggling baby in the end.

On July 27, Istanbul prosecutors ordered the detention of 47 former Zaman staff. Following the court order, 21 suspects were held; 18 have been remanded in jug since then.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea accuses US of seeking ‘pre-emptive nuclear strike’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] North Korea has accused Washington of planning a pre-emptive nuclear strike, after the US announced it would deploy its B-1 bomber in the Pacific for the first time in a decade.

The strategic aircraft were to be deployed on Saturday on the US island of Guam, the US military said last month, describing the operation as a routine rotation with the B-52 bomber.

Tensions have been running high since North Korea carried out its fourth nuclear test in January, followed by a barrage of missile launches that this month reached Japanese waters directly for the first time.

Pyongyang accused Washington of "becoming all the more pronounced in their moves to topple down the DPRK by mobilizing all nuclear war hardware," using North Korea’s official title.

"The enemies are bluffing that they can mount a pre-emptive nuclear strike on the DPRK by letting fly B-1B over the Korean peninsula within two-three hours in contingency," said an English-language statement on state media.

"Such moves for bolstering nuclear force exposes again that the US imperialists are making a pre-emptive nuclear strike on the DPRK a fait accompli."

North Korea has threatened "physical action" over the planned deployment of a sophisticated US anti-missile system in South Korea, known as THAAD.

Tensions on the divided Korean peninsula are also building ahead of an annual South Korea-US military exercise later this month.

On July 29, the US Air Force said it would upgrade its hardware on Guam, a US territory in the western Pacific, by sending the B-1 for the first time since April 2006.

"The B-1 will provide US Pacific Command and its regional allies and partners with a credible, strategic power projection platform," it said in a statement.

Pyongyang has repeatedly warned it may carry out pre-emptive nuclear strikes against the South and US targets, domestic and abroad. Ultimately, the North wants to be able to strike on the continental US.

Huge Blast heard in Mogadishu
A huge explosion was heard tonight in the downtown of Mogadishu’s busiest street known as Makka Al Mukarama road, which links the airport to the palace.

Initial reports suggest that a bomb concealed under a luxury car’s seat exploded on the street on Sunday evening, with other reports say it was a hand grenade. The details of the casualty figures is yet sketchy, as local police officers sealed off the area around the blast site, and launched manhunt to trace the culprits.

No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb attack in Mogadishu, but the Al shabaab militants have in the past carried out similar attack in the city.

Sen. Tom Cotton: Clinton discussed executed Iranian scientist on email
[Washington Examiner] Hillary Clinton recklessly discussed, in emails hosted on her private server, an Iranian nuclear scientist who was executed by Iran for treason, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said Sunday.

"I'm not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton's private server, there were conversations among her senior advisors about this gentleman," he said on "Face the Nation." Cotton was speaking about Shahram Amiri, who gave information to the U.S. about Iran's nuclear program.

The senator said this lapse proves she is not capable of keeping the country safe.

"That goes to show just how reckless and careless her decision was to put that kind of highly classified information on a private server. And I think her judgment is not suited to keep this country safe," he said.
One would think Mr. Trump would mention this very fact in the first debate. He'd make the point, one way or another, that the email hack of Ms. Clinton's ill-advised and illegal server led to this man's death. Let the poodle press in charge of the debate try to shut that down.

Britain
Muslim Brotherhood members in Egypt can qualify for asylum in Britain: UK Home Office
One step forward, one step back...
[AlAhram] Home Office guidance stipulates high-profile or politically active Brotherhood members and supporters, including journalists, might be at risk of persecution and thus qualify for asylum

New guidance issued by the UK’s Home Office in August states that Moslem Brüderbund members can qualify for political asylum in the United Kingdom if they are considered to be under threat of "persecution" in Egypt.

The 22-page document, entitled "Country Information and Guidance Egypt: Moslem Brüderbund," read that asylum can be applied for over "a fear of persecution or serious harm by the state because of the person’s actual or perceived involvement with the Moslem Brüderbund."

The guidance states that high-profile or politically active Brotherhood members in Egypt "may be able to show that they are at risk of persecution, including of being held in detention, where they may be at risk of ill-treatment, trial also without due process and disproportionate punishment."

The document added that "high-profile supporters" or those deemed "MB supporters," including journalists, may also be similarly at risk of "persecution," stating that in such cases a grant of asylum would be appropriate.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
the Home Office said that low-key, inactive members who are not "generally targeted" and would be unable to show "a real risk or persecution" may not be granted asylum, concluding that each case will be reviewed on an individual basis.

In December 2013, Egypt's interim authorities designated the Brotherhood a terrorist organization and froze the assets of many of its members and all affiliated NGOs.

A court in 2014 banned all activities by the group, from which ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi hails, and ordered the confiscation of the group's assets via a state committee.

Assets of hundreds of Brotherhood members have since been confiscated by the state-led committee and alleged members have been prosecuted in mass trials over violence and terrorism-related charges.

The new UK Home Office guidance comes less than one year after a British government review concluded that membership or ties to the Brotherhood should be considered a possible indicator of extremism, but that the group should not be banned on UK soil.

Britannia’s then-Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
said at the time that Britannia would continue to refuse visas to members and associates of the group who have expressed "extremist" views, as well as intensify scrutiny of the activities Moslem Brüderbund members, associates and affiliates.

Egypt welcomed the British 2015 report at the time, saying that it was clear that the international community should support Egypt in confronting terrorism and Death Eater ideology.

Police find pistol in 13-year-old E. Jerusalem boy’s bedroom
All in a day's work for the IDF...
[IsraelTimes] Officers investigating how East Jerusalem teen got the gun; IDF troops uncover weapons cache in West Bank raid

Police officers tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
a 13-year-old boy from East Jerusalem after discovering a pistol hidden in his room, at an institution for teens from underprivileged families, a police spokesperson said on Sunday. The arrest, which occurred last week, was part of a larger police effort to "locate and seize illegal weaponry," the spokesperson said.

On Sunday, a Jerusalem court extended the boy’s remand, keeping him in jail as officers continue their investigation. The police would not reveal what specific information led them to the teenager’s room in the institution, where along with the pistol, they found two magazines and a carrying case.

Meanwhile in Hebron, the army on Saturday night uncovered a weapons cache containing a 9mm pistol, a Negev light machine gun, ammunition and a "Carlo"-style submachine gun, based on the design of the Swedish Carl Gustav firearm. The soldiers also discovered a counterfeit Israeli identification card, the army said.

In overnight raids, Israeli security forces arrested four Paleostinians for allegedly throwing rocks and taking part in violent protests. In addition, soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces’ Judea Brigade picked up a fifth Paleostinian who "planned to throw a Molotov cocktail at the highway" near Bayt Awwa, west of Hebron, the army said.

Police disarm pipe bomb near Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem

[IsraelTimes] A police sapper disarmed a pipe bomb that had been left in the parking lot of the Rachel’s Tomb holy site in northern Bethlehem on Sunday. The explosive device was discovered by officers outside the religious site, prompting them to seal off the area and call in a bomb disposal unit, police said. After inspecting the device, the sapper “neutralized” it, a police spokesperson said. No injuries or damage were caused by the pipe bomb, the spokesperson added.

Police have opened an investigation to determine who placed the bomb in the parking lot.

Rachel’s Tomb is believed to be the burial place of the matriarch Rachel. It is holy to Jews, Christians, Muslims and members of other world religions. In October, the IDF installed a series of concrete barriers around the tomb, effectively separating it from the rest of Bethlehem.

White House releases secret drone ‘playbook’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The US government has released a once-secret policy document once dubbed "the playbook" that shows how officials select drone targets in areas outside war zones and the key role the president has in the process.

The 18-page Presidential Policy Guidance (PPG), published Saturday by the American Civil Liberties Union, provides more details than the government had previously revealed on how drone strikes are approved.

"Actions, including lethal action against designated terrorist targets, shall be as discriminating and precise as reasonably possible," the PPG states.

President Barack Obama
It’s very rare that I come to an event where I’m like the fifth- or sixth-most interesting person....
typically must personally sign off on plans to strike terror suspects who are located outside war zones in which America is officially fighting. Such zones include Pakistain, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

Strikes in combat theaters such as Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan are controlled by the military.

Each case for action is subjected to legal review before it goes to the National Security Council and then the president.

The policy document says that "absent extraordinary circumstances," a drone strike on a high-value target will only be taken if there is "near certainty" no civilians will be killed, and says the United States should respect another nation's illusory sovereignty in weighing drone strikes.

The partially redacted document was released as a result of a lawsuit brought by the ACLU, which has long sparred with the government over America's secretive drone program.

#1  Full text (choppy, converted from .pdf) here

I liked this part - sort of like getting nominated for Class President.

2.A Nomination Process

Any department or agency participating in the Deputies Committee review in Section 2.D may identify an individual for consideration, but only an operating agency or DOJ (“nominating agencies·· for purposes of Section 2 of this PPG) may formally request that a suspect be considered for capture or custody by U.S. personnel. Additionally, a department or agency that has captured a suspect, or that plans to capture or otherwise take custody of a suspect, shall, whenever practicable, propose a long-term disposition for such individual. Prior to requesting that an individual be considered for capture or custody by the United States, the nominating agency must confirm with its General Counsel that the operation can be conducted lawfully, but it is not necessary to have resolved the long-term disposition plan prior to proposing a capture operation.

I suppose that's before you seek agreement to whack 'em. It looks like the original .pdf was Top Secret, before it was redacted.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Jets pound rebels after breaking Aleppo siege
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian snuffies who broke the siege of rebel-held eastern Aleppo on Saturday in a significant territorial gain came under intense air attack from pro-government forces on Sunday trying to repel the advance which also cut government-held Aleppo’s main supply route.

Rebels have taken most of a large government military complex southwest of Aleppo city in a major offensive begun on Friday to break a month-long siege and are now attacking further into government held territory.

The surprise advance in Ramousah allowed fighters from murderous Moslem areas in western Syria to break through a strip of government-controlled territory on Saturday and connect with fighters in the encircled sector of eastern Aleppo.

But fierce fighting and continuous Russian and Syrian air strikes in and around the Ramousah area mean no safe passage for besieged east Aleppo residents has been established, activists and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Fighters from a coalition of Islamist rebel groups called "Jaish al Fateh" announced the start of a new phase to liberate the whole of Aleppo, saying it pledged to increased the numbers of fighters for the battle it said will only end by hoisting their flag on the ancient Aleppo citadel in government hands.

Jets believed to be Russian intensified their bombing of rebel-held Aleppo countryside and also hit opposition held Idlib city in north western Syria, rebels said.

They released video footage that showed huge flames of fire it said was caused by white phosphorus bombs dropped on the city.

Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
wants to take full control of Aleppo, pre-war Syria’s most populous city, which has been divided between rebel and government-held areas.

Assad’s government forces are supported in Syria by Russian air power, Iranian militias and fighters from Leb’s Hezbollah group who have sent reinforcements to shore up the army.

Rebel gains this weekend could change the balance of power in Aleppo, after Assad said a siege by government and allied forces on rebel-held east Aleppo in early July was a prelude to re-taking the city. The loss of Aleppo would be a crushing blow for rebels.

"We have now seized full control of the Ramousah area... We are in our trenches but there are insane air strikes of unprecedented ferociousness. The regime is using cluster and vacuum bombs," said Abu al Hasanien, a senior commander in Fateh Halab, the coalition of moderate rebel groups inside the city.

Pro-Syrian government news channels have mostly played down the rebel gains and say Syrian army efforts have caused rebels to withdraw from some recently-gained areas.

But Lebanese pro-Syrian government news channel al Mayadeen said late on Saturday the Syrian army had "withdrawn from a number of positions southwest of Aleppo and repositioned itself in new defensive lines".

The Syrian military was not immediately available for comment.
"I can say no more!"
As the snuffies took over parts of the government’s Ramousah military complex, which contains a number of military colleges, they broadcast images of the weaponry and ammunition they were taking possession of.

Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, formerly the al Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front, posted pictures of rows of armoured vehicles, munitions, howitzers, rockets and trucks.

The rebel front line is now pushing northwest into western held Aleppo on the edges of the Hamdaniya neighbourhood and a housing estate called the 3,000 project, rebels and the Observatory said.

North of Hamdaniya in the direction of the rebels’ push is another large government military complex, the Assad military engineering academy.

The opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) congratulated rebels on making "spectacular gains (which send) a clear message to the Assad regime, Iran and Russia that they will not be able to defeat the Syrian people or dictate the terms of a settlement."

Afghanistan
ANA Soldiers Plead for Food, Weapons in Taliban Heartland
As fierce fighting continues in the volatile southern province of Helmand, reports have emerged that dozens of security force members have been killed while fighting the Taliban.

In a video posted to social media, soldiers tell how little food and water they have.

In the video, the soldier who speaks says they are on the frontline of the battle without adequate weapons and that the little food they get daily, shown on the video, is meant to feed four men.

He blasted commanders and high-ranking military leaders for not addressing their concerns.

"We cannot sleep during the day nor during the night; they do not supply us with enough weapons and soldiers survive only on eating bread. We are battling on the frontline, but others (commanders) enjoy life in air conditioned rooms," said the unnamed solder.

This comes at a critical juncture amid an escalating war in Helmand.

Reports indicate that up to 70 ANSF soldiers have been killed in the past few weeks in battles with the Taliban.

The hard-pressed ANSF soldiers have pleaded for more food and weapons less than a week after the Taliban released a video purportedly showing at least 20 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers who had surrendered to the Taliban in Helmand.

As speculation over the poor leadership of the war in Helmand and other provinces gathers fresh momentum, a number of military experts and members of parliament have said corruption and embezzlement of money in security institutions is the main challenge within the ANSF.

"Issues like these are linked to the actions of some commanders who continue to engage in corruption and sometimes even they are allegedly connected to armed opponents," said senator Mohammad Asif Sediqi.

"How long will these problems continue, this will demoralize the forces, the issue needs to be tackled seriously," military analyst Ainuddin Baig said.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in reference to the video footage said that it will take action and provide the necessary assistance to the troops.

"The honorable minister and myself have seen the video; the minister has issued guidelines to address the issue soon and find out what has really happened," defense ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.

"I saw the footage on Facebook and I was saddened and shocked to see it," Kabul university student Zabi said.

"They must at least provide the soldiers with necessary weapons and food," another resident Ahmad said.

Security officials have said that insurgents from fourteen provinces have flocked to Helmand in an attempt to take the province so as to move the Quetta Shura from Pakistan to Helmand.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran’s new propaganda: Claiming to expel al-Qaeda officials
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran is attempting to spread news that it is sending some al-Qaeda officials to other countries with the aim of improving how it is perceived in the international media.

Al-Qaeda's ties to Iran have been proven in four instances. The first was last March, when a New York District Court ordered Iran to pay more than $10.5 billion in damages to families of people killed in the 9/11 attacks and to a group of insurers. The second is an Iranian foreign ministry's statement admitting that al-Qaeda officials had passed through Iran. The third is late al-Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now beyond all cares and woe...
's documents which prove Iran's absolute support and official cover up for al-Qaeda. The fourth is developments related to arresting the group's officials, such as al-Qaeda front man Sulaiman Abu Ghaith who was detained while holding an Iranian passport.

Iran has had many aims behind harboring al-Qaeda officials such as exploiting the group to perform operations against neighboring countries, such as Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and other Gulf states, raising negotiation ceilings with Western countries, mainly the United States, and protecting itself from the group’s attacks. Al-Qaeda has not targeted any Iranian site inside or outside Iran. The biggest proof of these aims is Iran's negotiations with the West regarding Saif al-Adel
...holed up in Iran from 2002 until 2010, when he made bail and moved back to the Pak-Afghan border...
and extradition of Abu Hafs al-Mauritani to Mauritania.

Iran's recent act of expelling al-Qaeda officials to other countries only aims to cloud the attention of observers of the situation, as al-Qaeda will not give up on Iran and vice versa. However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
Iran's desire to steer clear of rigorous media coverage have expedited Iran’s own media propaganda, so much so that it is sending al-Qaeda officials to other countries in the East and West.

It is Iran that is nurturing al-Qaeda. This is as clear as day.

Bangladesh
Hasnat-Tahmid photos deepen confusion
[Dhaka Tribune] New photos of the Gulshan attack showing Tahmid Hasib Khan holding a pistol and an apparently calm Hasnat Reza Karim having a conversation with an armed terrorist on the roof of Holey Artisan Bakery have deepened confusion about the role of the two "hostages" in the July 1 terror assault

The pictures show attacker Rohan Imtiaz, an AK-22 rifle dangling from his neck, talking to Hasnat and Tahmid. Rohan was killed during rescue operation Thunderbolt that took place early on the morning of July 2.

The Dhaka Tribune could not independently verify the source of the images that have been widely circulated in the media.

That the body language of the two "hostages" does not display the fear one would expect in such a situation has been described by some as problematic.
Oh dear. And we've been told by that editorializing prat that the word problematic is declasse. (I would put in all the proper French accents, but they upset the current iteration of Ramtburg's word processor.) Someone should inform Bangladesh.
Moreover, Rohan Imtiaz does not appear as menacing with the pair as witnesses have described him. Witnesses have said Rohan summarily executed a foreign victim brought out of hiding, besides participating in the carnage at the restaurant, before ordering the staff to prepare a meal.

By themselves, the photos present no hard evidence that links Hasnat or Tahmid directly to the attackers.

Police initially said Hasnat and Tahmid were among the 34 hostages who survived the terror attack on the upmarket eatery in the heart of Dhaka’s diplomatic zone. The attackers released them moments before commandos broke into the restaurant to end the 11-hour siege.

Quoting witnesses, the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
on July 8 reported that Tahmid had been forced by the attackers to carry a gun.

It reported: "At one point, the attackers directed Mr [Tahmid Hasib] Khan to carry a gun and go with them to the roof of the restaurant, the hostages said. They said Mr Khan resisted, and to persuade him to hold the weapon the attackers fired it to show him its magazine was empty. Mr Khan broke down in tears at their insistence he take the gun, one of the hostages said, but reluctantly complied."

Another report by Guernica magazine, which also quoted a hostage, on August 5 said the gunnies forced Tahmid to hold an unloaded gun during the night and took him upstairs with Hasnat.

"The purpose appears to have been to use [Tahmid] Khan as a human shield in case the police tried to shoot the attackers,"

it stated.

On Wednesday, police said they had locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
Hasnat and Tahmid for their "dubious roles" during the horrific attack.

The families of the two men have repeatedly claimed that Tahmid and Hasnat had not returned home since their detention after the rescue on July 2.

Hasnat, a former North South University teacher, is a UK citizen while Tahmid, a Canadian residence permit holder, studies at the University of Toronto.

A Dhaka court on August 4 placed the two on an eight-day interrogation by Sherlocks.

Arabia
Yemini Army begins offensive in Nihm
Aden – Yemeni National Army Forces, backed by the coalition air forces, began a wide-ranged military operation in Nihm district.

The operation called “Liberation is our Pledge” comes as a response to the insurgents’ violations. A Yemeni military source told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the operation has a series of set targets that the forces will aim to execute all.

According to field sources, the artillery of the national army targeted heavily insurgency sites in al-Mabda’a village of Nihm district, west of Sana’a.

National army forces, backed by the popular resistance, also liberated al-Manara mountain that overlooks al-Madid area in Nihm district, one of the largest dirsticts in Sana’a.

The forces are advancing towards the strategic area and according to army sources, Milh village in Nihm was also liberated. Militants fled the area after the heavy clashes leaving behind their weapons and equipment.

Yemeni armed forces media added that al-Houl village was also liberated and a number of militants escaped towards Dabboua were also targeted. In addition, Bani Bareq was liberated; a front which was described as the “center of the battle”.

Other sources mentioned that the national army began advancing towards al-Medraj and Masoura after militias escaped the area towards their reinforcements corridor in Dabboua.

Coalition forces also performed a series of raids on Houthis’ sites in al-Maktaa area and Mehla Dam.

The operation began after the Yemeni armed forces asked the civilians to stay away from sites and locations of insurgents and militias. The forces also warned citizens of allowing militants to use their houses as sites saying that they will be targeted and any act of aggression will be destroyed no matter its source.

More from Al Arabiya:

A spokesman said on Saturday that the Saudi-led Arab Coalition will revive its Operation Restoring Hope after Yemeni peace talks in Kuwait ended in the same day without any real results.

While the operation began on April 21, 2015 and it is still active, “Operation Restoring Hope will be revived again,” Saudi Brig. Gen. Ahmed Al-Asiri, spokesman of the Arab Coalition, told Al Arabiya’s sister channel Al Hadath.

The operation was launched to bolster political and peace efforts but without ruling out the use of force. The operation followed the military Operation Decisive Storm.

Asiri, who is also an advisor to the Saudi defense minister, said Iran-backed Houthi militias considered the ending of Yemeni peace talks in Kuwait as an “opportunity” to expand their operations.

He said after suspending the talks between the two warring Yemeni sides, the Houthis started launching operations on the Saudi borders.

The brigadier general said a fire exchange following an aggression by the Houthis led to the killing of a Saudi soldier on the border, reiterating that the kingdom won’t tolerate such violations.

He added "We have already emphasized that Operation Restore Hope has three fundamental dimensions: military and political, as well as relief and humanitarian. The operation has been suspended to give a chance to the momentum of the talks… and to show full support to the United Nations and its envoy through the truce that has been requested from time to time. This was respected by the coalition and the Yemeni government in the hope of the success of the negotiations"

Asiri said "The point that should be clear to the audience is that the Houthi militias failed in dealing positively with all opportunities that were presented to them by the legitimate government via the UN Envoy. And the militia is now trying to achieve some military gains on the ground. They found themselves in an impasse. the impasse of not achieving any political success or military ones. Therefore the coalition is committed to the support of the legitimate government and its national army in its efforts to restore its control over the majority of regions currently held by the Houthi militias."

He added "At the same time our armed forces and national guards continue their duties in protecting the border of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is the future that we are working on. The operations of Restoring Hope will be active again."

On Saturday, UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed announced the end of Yemen peace talks in Kuwait, but said negotiation between the two Yemeni warring sides will resume in a month.

The envoy rejected that the talks in Kuwait have failed, and criticized any “unilateral” steps taken by any of the two sides.

But he did not make any further mention of how the Houthis and forces loyal to Saleh on Saturday appointed a council set up to govern Yemen, in a new blow to the UN-mediated peace talks.

The militia alliance announced the creation of the council on July 28, a move denounced by Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

Ould Cheikh Ahmed said previously it would damage the talks and represented a “grave breach” of UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan: ‘We need to build a state starting from scratch’
[RUDAW.NET] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
announced his plans and actions to clean The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
of all Gulenists
... the Turkish version of the Boogie Man, who set fire to the Turkish Reichsstag...
and their influence, adding that if the people decide to change the country’s political system to a presidential one, he is willing to do so.

"The government will take the necessary steps to completely clean up the army of the Gulen terrorist group that attempted to carry out the coup. We want to build an army that protects its people not kills them, and we will take necessary procedures to clean the army properly," said Erdogan in an interview with Al Jazeera on Saturday.

He announced that the process of cleaning up the army will be completed by August 31.

And in addition to removing all Gulen elements from the army, they will be eradicated from the education system as well.

"We need to build a state starting from scratch. We have to do vertical and horizontal cleaning in the meantime. And we will change the curriculum and teachers at the military schools in the interest of Turkey, and the schools and colleges will be open for all Turks," the president said.

"We won’t allow any putschists in state institutions and we will not tolerate them," Erdogan added. "There is no difference between terrorism and a coup."

He hailed the unity and strength of the nation in the wake of the attempted coup, declaring that at a rally on Sunday afternoon, "[W]e will be one country, one nation, one flag and one state."

The rally on Sunday brings together leaders of three of the four main political parties. The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party has been excluded from the rally and meetings of the party leaders in which they have discussed constitutional reform.

Erdogan described the failed coup attempt as an earthquake and affirmed that his current job is to prevent any aftershocks. He commended the Turkish people who confronted the putschists on the streets, saying "The Turkish people are more powerful than a weapon and no one can conquer them."

He pointed out that Gulen’s ambitions go beyond Turkey’s borders, saying they want to expand their influence to countries in Africa but warned they should be treated as a terrorist group.

The Daily Mail has photos from the Sunday rally, reporting more than one million attended in Istanbul. The Turkish Anadolu news agency claimed as many as five million were there.

The attacks on businesses and busimess owners and employees just aren't as much announced, lord garth. But Gulen-linked private schools were closed, and all the teachers lost their licences. Gulen-linked newspapers were confiscated, Gulen-linked businesses have been raided and people arrested -- accused of smuggling and organized crime, according to a report a few days ago -- and over $17.5 million seized. And on Thursday President Erdogan promised to cut off the revenues of Gulen-linked businesses because, he said, that is where the Gulenists are strongest.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran executes nuclear scientist reputed to have spied for U.S.
[POLITICO] The Iranian government has executed a nuclear scientist who was believed to have cooperated with U.S. intelligence but who returned to Iran after claiming he had been kidnapped and tortured by the CIA.
Apparently the Iranians didn't believe him...
The tale of Shahram Amiri was one of the stranger sagas to emerge from Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another John C. Calhoun ...
's tenure as secretary of state, testing her diplomatic skills in highly sensitive circumstances. His death comes just over a year after Iran and the U.S. struck a deal aimed at reining in Iran's nuclear program, an agreement Clinton was instrumental in launching.

State-controlled Iranian media on Sunday confirmed Amiri's execution, quoting an Iranian judiciary front man as saying that Amiri "provided the enemy with vital information of the country." His family told the BBC his body had rope marks, indicating he had been hanged, apparently in the past week.

Amiri went missing in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
in May or June 2009 while on religious pilgrimage to Mecca. In the following months, Iranian officials accused the U.S. of abducting him. The State Department claimed for months that it "had no information" on Amiri.

The Iranian resurfaced publicly on June 7, 2010, in a pair of Internet videos. In one, he claimed he'd been kidnapped by the CIA during his pilgrimage and was being held in Tucson, Arizona, where he had been subject to torture and psychological pressure. In the other, he claimed he was in the U.S. to further his education and was free and safe.

Amiri appeared in a third video, posted June 29, 2010, in which he said he'd escaped U.S. custody and had reached Virginia. Two weeks later, Amiri walked into the Pak Embassy in Washington, D.C., which houses an Iranian interests section, and said he wanted to return to Iran.

Clinton confirmed at that point, during a news conference, that Amiri had been present in the U.S., saying he arrived "of his own free will and he is free to go. These are decisions that are his alone to make."

When he did land in his native country on July 15, 2010, he was given a hero’s welcome, and Iranian officials cast him as a double agent, claiming he had infiltrated U.S. intelligence and that Iran had the upper hand in an intelligence war. But soon after returning home, Amiri was taken into custody, presumably imprisoned because of his dalliance with the U.S.

The CIA and the State Department declined to comment for this story, and the White House said it had no immediate comment. But the U.S. was clearly embarrassed over the drama as it played out six years ago, not to mention unhappy about the public window it offered into the high-stakes spy battles between Washington and Tehran over the latter's nuclear program.

#2  Apparently he was serving a prison term until one of her emails referred to him as "our friend". The Iranians then hanged him.

Police officials on Saturday said the suspect was wanted by the capital police in connection with four cases registered with the Aabpara, Ramna and Loi Bher police. Besides, he was also wanted by the police of different districts in Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi and Jhang.

The police said the suspect was allegedly involved in about 40 to 50 kidnapping cases.

When contacted, the investigation office of the case, Assistant Sub-Inspector Murtaza, told Dawn that the man was arrested during a raid in Jauhar Town, Lahore. The suspect was wanted by the Ramna police in connection with the kidnapping of a boy in April this year.

The police brought the suspect to the capital city and obtained his two-day physical remand, he added.

A police officer on the condition of anonymity told Dawn that in April the suspect allegedly kidnapped a boy from G-10 but three hours later the boy was found at the G-10 Markaz.

Trump mocks Clinton over ‘short-circuit’ comment
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump slammed Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Richelieu ...
as mentally unstable at a Saturday campaign rally, seizing on her admission that she "short-circuited" in comments about her private email use at the State Department.

"The people of this country don’t want somebody who’s going to short circuit up here," Trump told supporters in New Hampshire.

"She’s a dangerous liar," the real estate mogul said of the Democratic former secretary of state. "She is a totally unhinged person. She's unbalanced."

Trump’s supporters chanted "Lock her up!" during the event in the town of Windham, which was broadcast online.

On Friday, Clinton acknowledged she "may have short-circuited" when she tried to clarify statements about her use of a private email server.

The Democrat had told Fox News Sunday that FBI director James Comey said her "answers were truthful" about whether she sent or received classified material via private email.

That comment was branded false by Washington-based fact-checkers.

Trump, 70, has embraced her phrasing as a line of attack. On Saturday ahead of his rally in New Hampshire, he posted a campaign ad on his Facebook page that refers to Clinton as "Robot Hillary" -- and shows sparks flying out of her mouth.

"Is Robot Hillary melting down?" the ad asks.

Trump is trying to boost his campaign after a week of missteps that saw his poll numbers drop and the 68-year-old Clinton, a former senator and first lady, seize the momentum.

He reversed course and endorsed House Speaker Paul Ryan
...U.S. Representative for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, serving since 1999. He is a member of the Republican Party. He proposed an alternative to President Obama's 2011 budget and made himself the target of both Democrat and Republican verbal pies...
for re-election on Friday, pledging to work with Republican Party leaders.

Trump also said he would support veteran Republican Senator John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
, with whom he has sparred in the past.

"We need unity. We have to win this election," Trump told a rally in Ryan’s state of Wisconsin.

#1  The GOP establishment put a leash on Trump. About time someone brought him to reality that he is blowing this election with his lashing out at his own party, and that loser of a fight with the Khans.

#9  God Forbid that this would actually become a republic with individual rights being most important, instead of a "democracy" where the rights are subject to the whims of government and whoever can scrape up the biggest mob to control it.

At least now Trump is back on the right message, going after the proper target, Hillary. Too little too late? I do not know. The past week he has been pretty self destructive.

Bangladesh
Five financiers behind terror attacks identified
[Dhaka Tribune] Investigating officers dealing with the Gulshan and Sholakia terror attacks have primarily identified five businesspersons for financing a new JMB group in carrying out operations and are now trying to arrest them.

They have also kept under watch some people inside the country and abroad who had funded some krazed killer groups earlier.

The forces of Evil are also collecting money themselves by conducting robbery and mugging, the law enforcers say.

"The forces of Evil have created a network of financiers inside the country. They are also receiving funds from some expatriate Bangladeshis through hundi [an illegal channel]," a highly-placed source in a law enforcement agency told the Dhaka Tribune.

The official confirmed that they had got identities of the five businesspersons, but refused to disclose the names as they are now scrutinising the evidence.

Monirul Islam, chief of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday that they had got some crucial information and evidence regarding the Holey Artisan Bakery attack, and the specific role of some persons behind it.

Around six months back, detectives came to know about a krazed killer receiving around Tk38 lakh from one of his relatives staying abroad through hundi. The krazed killer who was later tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
by the police claimed that he had been asked to give it to another person.

In investigation, it was later found that the sender was a krazed killer financier, and for this, the law enforcers have kept the family members under surveillance.

An official working with krazed killer financing for a long period said that the local forces of Evil get huge sum of money from abroad, but it does not reach the attackers or the field-level members. Those members are taught to lead a life with low financial support and asked to spend money for buying arms.

Abdul Mannan, additional deputy commissioner of the CTTC unit, said that interrogating Rakibul Hasan alias Rigan, the lone survivor in Kallyanpur raid, they had learnt that the group’s "Big Brother" used to visit the flat to give them money for buying daily commodities and supply the arms and explosives.

DB police arrested RMG owners Rahat and Azmir from Mymensingh’s Trishal in 2014. Rahat had a factory at Kallyanpur and Azmir at Satarkul of Badda in Dhaka. Moreover, Rapid Action Battalion arrested a businessman named Enamul last year from Tongi for funding a Chittagong-based krazed killer group.

Although, these krazed killer financiers are now in jail, the Sherlocks have kept an eye on their associates and relatives.

The suspected criminal mastermind behind the Gulshan and Sholakia attacks, Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, used to stay in Canada and might have developed a network of financiers abroad before coming to Bangladesh in 2013.

Sanowar Hossain, additional deputy commissioner of the CTTC unit, said that banned krazed killer outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) had been trying to raise funds by themselves for the last two years by conducting criminal activities including robbery and mugging.

"We have found that the new JMB faction has collected funds by conducting robbery at a bank in Ashulia area, and snatching away Tk65 lakh in Narayanganj and Tk37 lakh in Gaibandha. They were also involved in several snatching incidents in Chittagong," Sanowar added.

Kuwait man held for funding Indian Islamic State sympathisers
[Iraq Sun] A 32-year-old man who allegedly funded Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) sympathisers in India has been placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in Kuwait, based on a tip off by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), an officer said on Saturday.

An NIA officer told IANS that Abdullah Hadi Abdul Rahman Al-Enezi was arrested by Kuwait authorities for sending $1,000 to alleged IS recruit Areeb Majeed and his three associates while they were staying in Iraq in May 2014.

Majeed, a resident of Panvel in Maharashtra, left Mumbai along with four friends on May 24, 2014. He returned in November that year and has been in jug since. He is being prosecuted for several offences.

Majeed, a civil engineer by training, was the first Indian graduate from terror group IS' training school as a fidayeen or jacket wallah.

The arrested IS sympathiser had informed Sherlocks that while he and three other IS sympathisers were in Iraq in early 2014, they had asked their IS handler for some money to go to Syria, following which Al-Enezi sent $ 1,000 to them from Kuwait.

"The NIA had earlier sent a mutual legal assistance request to Kuwait in the Areeb Majeed case in respect of transfer of $1,000 by Kuwaiti national Al-Enezi to him," the NIA officer said.

The officer said that Kuwait authorities have now arrested Al-Enezi, who has revealed that he had sent the $1,000 to Majeed through Western Union which was later used by him and his three associates to facilitate their travel to Syria.

Al-Enezi informed Kuwaiti authorities that he has been involved in financing of terrorism after his return from Pakistain in 2013, the officer said. He also supported terrorist organizations.

Sources said that an NIA team is likely to travel to Kuwait to question Al-Enezi.
